- 1:46Speaker 3: all right, Well anyway I figured, well in Germany I
- 1:49Speaker 3: would wear something German.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Is that okay? All right?
- 1:53Speaker 3: All right, So we have a lot to cover, top,
- 1:57Speaker 3: We have a lot to cover today. Obviously we know
- 2:00Speaker 3: why we're here. The Patriots are going to be playing
- 2:02Speaker 3: the Colts this Sunday over at the stadium where I
- 2:05Speaker 3: track plays, and you know, we couldn't be more excited
- 2:09Speaker 3: to be here and to be representing the New England Patriots.
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's it's just a great thing. But we're gonna get
- 2:15Speaker 3: into it. I don't know how many people here have
- 2:18Speaker 3: watched them? How many people here? Okay? So we do
- 2:37Speaker 3: this show during the season every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
- 2:41Speaker 3: at noontime in you know, East coast, so it's at
- 2:46Speaker 3: six pm in Germany. Uh And then in the off
- 2:50Speaker 3: season we do it every Tuesday and Thursday. And we
- 2:52Speaker 3: talked all about the Patriots for two hours and you
- 2:55Speaker 3: can call in, you can email us. So now that
- 2:58Speaker 3: you know about it, I would expect everybody here to
- 3:02Speaker 3: be watching this show. And if you don't catch it
- 3:05Speaker 3: live every week, you can listen to it on demand
- 3:08Speaker 3: on Patriots dot Com and on YouTube. So we're excited
- 3:12Speaker 3: to introduce a lot of you to the show for
- 3:14Speaker 3: the first time. So guys, let's get into it. We
- 3:16Speaker 3: we We've got a lot to talk about, a lot
- 3:19Speaker 3: to cover in the next two hours. First of all,
- 3:23Speaker 3: let's talk about the state of the team, because we've
- 3:25Speaker 3: got some guys that you know, are didn't play last
- 3:29Speaker 3: game for whatever reason, and and there's a lot of
- 3:32Speaker 3: reports back home in the Boston area about things aren't
- 3:36Speaker 3: aren't aren't that good with the team?
- 3:38Speaker 6: Dah Yeah, I mean it's it's not. It's not a
- 3:42Speaker 6: great situation. Obviously with the defensive backs you're talking about
- 3:45Speaker 6: Freddie with j C. Jackson and Jack Jones, and it
- 3:48Speaker 6: looks like, according to a lot of the reports, that
- 3:50Speaker 6: jay Z Jackson will not be making the trip here
- 3:53Speaker 6: to Germany for the game. And you know, evidently there
- 3:57Speaker 6: was some discipline related things that we don't know all
- 4:00Speaker 6: the details of, but that contributed to those guys not
- 4:04Speaker 6: playing as much against Washington, and you know, it's a
- 4:07Speaker 6: quick turn around. They got to get here, We got
- 4:09Speaker 6: to get ready for the Colts on Sunday, and I
- 4:11Speaker 6: think Bill Belichick decided it was in the best interest
- 4:13Speaker 6: of the team not to have him join in. And
- 4:16Speaker 6: it's yeah, it's not not an ideal situation.
- 4:19Speaker 3: It's tough because you know, the defense has taken some hits.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Well that's a big part. But Fred is you know,
- 4:24Speaker 5: we talked about the drama of it all, but they
- 4:25Speaker 5: ultimate they're gonna have to come here and figure out
- 4:27Speaker 5: how to defend against you know, Carter Mitschew and this
- 4:29Speaker 5: Colts offense that you know has some pieces. I mean,
- 4:32Speaker 5: Michael Pittman's a good receiver, Jonathan Taylor good good running
- 4:35Speaker 5: back that you know we saw a couple of years
- 4:36Speaker 5: ago that did a lot of damage to the Patriots defense.
- 4:39Speaker 5: So I think the Colts have some pieces. You know,
- 4:41Speaker 5: is Jack Jones the guy that's gonna have to step up?
- 4:43Speaker 5: I mean he had some problems last week as well,
- 4:45Speaker 5: didn't start the game, So you might be looking at
- 4:47Speaker 5: Sean Waite again coming out as maybe the starter.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I think you're just looking for reasons
- 4:53Speaker 7: or players that might be showing signs of their head
- 4:56Speaker 7: is not all the way in it. And I think
- 4:58Speaker 7: when you watch the tape of those guys, there are
- 5:01Speaker 7: moments when you're like, are they doing the right things?
- 5:04Speaker 8: Like you're just you know, kind of a little confused.
- 5:06Speaker 7: But what's going on is specifically I think with Jack
- 5:08Speaker 7: Jones on the touchdown of Jalen Wattle at the end
- 5:10Speaker 7: of the game against Miami, he's right in the middle
- 5:13Speaker 7: of a big coverage bus that basically gave them a
- 5:16Speaker 7: chance to ice the game. So I think that we
- 5:19Speaker 7: look at those guys, it just would be nice if
- 5:22Speaker 7: the Patriots could maybe rely on reliable players, you know,
- 5:26Speaker 7: more reliable players. And I think that those two guys,
- 5:29Speaker 7: you know, JC was brought back and Jack Jones was
- 5:32Speaker 7: you know, drafted to help upgrade the secondary. But if
- 5:36Speaker 7: they can't be relied upon weeke in and week out,
- 5:39Speaker 7: that that's a big problem.
- 5:40Speaker 5: I just say real too. I mean, just to bring
- 5:41Speaker 5: Sean Wade back up. I mean, this guy who's been
- 5:43Speaker 5: here for a few years kind of waiting for his chance.
- 5:45Speaker 5: You know, you're kind of buried on the depth chart.
- 5:47Speaker 5: And now this might be it for him. So it's
- 5:49Speaker 5: an opportunity that he needs to take advantage of. Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 5: and I thought it.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Was interesting, you know, so he started the last game
- 5:54Speaker 6: against Washington, but then once Jackson and Jones got involved
- 5:58Speaker 6: later in the first quarter into the second, we didn't
- 6:01Speaker 6: see any more of it.
- 6:02Speaker 5: I agree with Mike.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I think it's time we sort of see some different players.
- 6:05Speaker 6: And I like the way I know you kind of
- 6:07Speaker 6: stumbled it but rely on some reliable players let me. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 6: And I think right now there's some questions and I
- 6:14Speaker 6: think that's what Bill Belichick and his coaching staff are
- 6:16Speaker 6: trying to fight through and figure out, Freddie is where
- 6:19Speaker 6: do we go?
- 6:20Speaker 5: Who? What do we have that we can rely on?
- 6:22Speaker 6: And you know, this is I think an opportunity to
- 6:25Speaker 6: kind of find out, you know, outside of the box
- 6:28Speaker 6: kind of trip that they're not. You know, you don't
- 6:30Speaker 6: take international trips every season. You know, if if you're
- 6:33Speaker 6: not with us, then and then you're not part of it.
- 6:35Speaker 3: So let's talk about who they might depend on against
- 6:37Speaker 3: this particular team, the Colts. Any Colts fans in the house,
- 6:42Speaker 3: no good, because if you said I was gonna tell
- 6:45Speaker 3: you to leave. Wow, that's else. Honestly, honestly, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 3: you look at the Colts and you thought going into
- 6:51Speaker 3: this year they had a new rookie quarterback and you
- 6:54Speaker 3: know they probably weren't going to do that well with him.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Uh and he hasn't played every game, but their backup,
- 7:00Speaker 3: Gardner Minshew, has played well. The Colts score points. Yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 3: this is not a team that is going to roll over.
- 7:09Speaker 3: What do the Patriots need to do against this team? Particularly?
- 7:12Speaker 3: We'll stick on the defense, you know, because that's what
- 7:14Speaker 3: we're talking about, you know, to take this game against
- 7:17Speaker 3: the Colts.
- 7:17Speaker 5: I mean, I think just to highlight the last two games,
- 7:20Speaker 5: and I'm sure you know I have at time in two,
- 7:21Speaker 5: but the big plays, the big players have really been
- 7:23Speaker 5: hurting this defense right now. And I think that's you know,
- 7:26Speaker 5: you saw last week. We spent so much time this
- 7:27Speaker 5: season talking about, hey, how do they get a good start,
- 7:29Speaker 5: how did they get a lead, how do they not
- 7:31Speaker 5: win not lose the turnover battle? And you know we've
- 7:33Speaker 5: seen those things, you know, a lot recently, but it
- 7:36Speaker 5: didn't make a difference last week. And I think, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 5: the big plays, the rise of the big plays has
- 7:40Speaker 5: really been a problem now where he was worried about
- 7:42Speaker 5: the big plays with Gardner Minshew, maybe not. So I
- 7:45Speaker 5: definitely got a point to Jonathan Taylor too, because I
- 7:47Speaker 5: think if he gets running, it's gonna be a lot.
- 7:49Speaker 5: That's at the top of my list.
- 7:50Speaker 6: I think, you know, in Zach Moss, we don't really
- 7:52Speaker 6: talk about, but he's up there among the league leaders
- 7:54Speaker 6: and in rushing right now. He's you know, and I
- 7:56Speaker 6: know Taylor's back now, but Moss is making it difficult
- 8:00Speaker 6: for the Colts to just sort of turn it all
- 8:01Speaker 6: back over to him. So I think it starts with
- 8:04Speaker 6: stopping the run. Fred, we're looking for positives, we're looking
- 8:06Speaker 6: for things that you can rely on. The Patriots run
- 8:08Speaker 6: defense is one of the real bright spots I think
- 8:11Speaker 6: of the team. They've been pretty stout most of the
- 8:13Speaker 6: season against the run. I think they're second in the
- 8:15Speaker 6: league and yards allowed per carry. So I think that
- 8:20Speaker 6: that's one factor I think going into the game that
- 8:22Speaker 6: probably lines up in New England's favor is their ability
- 8:24Speaker 6: to stop the run because that's the way the Colts
- 8:26Speaker 6: want to start. That's what they're going to make their
- 8:28Speaker 6: big place off of, YEP is running the ball and
- 8:30Speaker 6: then taking their shots with with Pittman in Pierce Downfield.
- 8:33Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean this is the Colts are running the
- 8:35Speaker 7: Eagles offense. Like yep, say Shane Steichen, I always stumble
- 8:40Speaker 7: on that name for some reason. Shine, he is running
- 8:44Speaker 7: with the same offense that he ran with Jalen Hurts
- 8:46Speaker 7: last year in Philly. So there's a lot of to
- 8:49Speaker 7: test the defense schematically.
- 8:50Speaker 8: There's a lot of RPOs.
- 8:51Speaker 7: There's a lot of run pass options that include quarterback
- 8:55Speaker 7: runs like and they do it with Gardner Mitchew.
- 8:57Speaker 8: Just like they were doing it with Anthony Richardson.
- 8:59Speaker 7: He had a seven ten yard touchdown run against the
- 9:01Speaker 7: Browns a couple of weeks ago, so he'll run a
- 9:04Speaker 7: little bit. And those plays just have a lot of
- 9:06Speaker 7: different elements to them that test the defense mentally. So
- 9:10Speaker 7: if you're the Patriots defense, this is a like always
- 9:14Speaker 7: but this is a classic like do.
- 9:15Speaker 8: Your job like you have this and I have that
- 9:18Speaker 8: type of game.
- 9:19Speaker 7: And that's been what's been kind of their issue that
- 9:21Speaker 7: I would say the last couple of weeks. I mean,
- 9:23Speaker 7: you expect Miami to move the ball against everybody and
- 9:26Speaker 7: score some points, but you know Eleven's explosive plays that
- 9:29Speaker 7: Mike was talking about twenty plus yard games, eleven of
- 9:32Speaker 7: them the last two weeks. A lot of those are
- 9:34Speaker 7: not just getting beat man on man. A lot of
- 9:37Speaker 7: it is because there's coverage busts or guys not in
- 9:39Speaker 7: the right places and things like that, and that's this
- 9:42Speaker 7: Cold's offense will already test you that way. So if
- 9:45Speaker 7: you're not you know, on your assignments, then it's gonna
- 9:48Speaker 7: be it's gonna be a long day.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah. So on the other side of the wall, the
- 9:51Speaker 3: Patriots over the last few games, really more than that,
- 9:54Speaker 3: have had trouble putting points on the board. They've been
- 9:56Speaker 3: stuck at seventeen and they've got to turn that around.
- 9:59Speaker 3: So how this week they've got they've got to they've
- 10:02Speaker 3: got to get at least into the twenties, I think
- 10:04Speaker 3: to win this game.
- 10:05Speaker 6: So stop me if you heard it, Freddy, twenty five okay,
- 10:08Speaker 6: and you get over twenty five, and then that probably
- 10:11Speaker 6: would be enough to win. Because I agree the way
- 10:13Speaker 6: these guys are talking about the Colts. You know, they're
- 10:15Speaker 6: four and five, they're not a great team, but they're.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Still sort of alive.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Yeah, they're alive, even even though they lost their rookie
- 10:22Speaker 6: quarterback Gardner Minshew has been okay, you know, when he's
- 10:25Speaker 6: been able to protect the ball and they've generally been
- 10:28Speaker 6: able to score some points. It's not a great offense.
- 10:31Speaker 6: It's not overly explosive. Like Evan brought up Miami. You
- 10:34Speaker 6: expect to give up chunk plays against Miami. That shouldn't
- 10:38Speaker 6: be the case here. So the Patriots offense has to
- 10:40Speaker 6: do its part to keep up. Yeah, and I think
- 10:42Speaker 6: that starts up front. I think it's been a little
- 10:44Speaker 6: bit better the last couple of weeks.
- 10:46Speaker 5: We'll see, if you know.
- 10:47Speaker 6: The Trent Brown situation is another one that bears watching.
- 10:49Speaker 6: He didn't play the last game and didn't practice on Wednesday.
- 10:54Speaker 5: He was in the locker room this morning.
- 10:56Speaker 6: My spies tell me, I don't know if you guys
- 10:58Speaker 6: have have moles in the locker room. Yes, Mike told me,
- 11:01Speaker 6: and I trust I trust Mike.
- 11:03Speaker 8: So he told everybody on Twitter.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, but he told me, you know, he told me first, well, Eric,
- 11:09Speaker 5: don't be jealous.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Did you get your practice report?
- 11:12Speaker 8: So this hold on.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I mean, Evan, he doesn't did you get your practice
- 11:18Speaker 3: report yet?
- 11:19Speaker 8: I know, and this has been tough for me the
- 11:20Speaker 8: last couple.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Of days, okay, because we were going to play the song.
- 11:23Speaker 7: I know, but I know who was there and who wasn't.
- 11:26Speaker 7: So if you want to play the song.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Let's go faith, why don't you play it?
- 11:34Speaker 9: But I'm in Germany, I'm not a practice fresh plane
- 11:45Speaker 9: here he is?
- 11:46Speaker 8: Are you going to ask me the mood to on.
- 11:49Speaker 3: A normal show? Usually Evan will have to step out
- 11:52Speaker 3: to go to practice and he'll give us the report
- 11:54Speaker 3: on who was there and who wasn't there. But I
- 11:57Speaker 3: also always like to know what was the mood? What
- 12:00Speaker 3: were the guys? Were they smiling, were they dancing? Were
- 12:03Speaker 3: they just And he'll he'll give me the mood as well.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So that's why we play that song. But Evan tell
- 12:07Speaker 3: us about who was who wasn't, who wasn't in at practice.
- 12:10Speaker 7: Well, just for the record, the mood is one hundred
- 12:12Speaker 7: percent determined by the weather. Like if it's cold, the
- 12:15Speaker 7: mood stinks. If it's hot, then we're all happy. I
- 12:18Speaker 7: practice today though, no Trent Brown again and no J. C.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Jackson.
- 12:22Speaker 3: So j C.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Jackson hasn't practiced either day. Neither has Trent Brown. We'll
- 12:26Speaker 7: get the injury report here shortly, which comes in at
- 12:29Speaker 7: like ten o'clock now Germany time, which definitely threw me off.
- 12:33Speaker 7: But yeah, the Trent Brown Jac Jackson not practicing, I
- 12:36Speaker 7: would assume that that means that Connor McDermott is probably
- 12:39Speaker 7: in line to start again at left tackle.
- 12:41Speaker 8: Like you did last week.
- 12:42Speaker 7: And all the reports indicating that JC is not going
- 12:45Speaker 7: to come here to Germany, well he hasn't been in
- 12:48Speaker 7: practice last couple of days, so it looks like that's
- 12:50Speaker 7: that's going.
- 12:51Speaker 5: To be accurate.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so that's there's your practice report. Getting
- 12:56Speaker 3: back now to this offense and putting points on the
- 12:59Speaker 3: board the offensive line. Trent Brown, is this a case
- 13:03Speaker 3: of maybe we'll see you on Sunday. He's just getting
- 13:05Speaker 3: that veteran rest because he's been hurt.
- 13:07Speaker 5: That's what we thought last week. You know, I thought
- 13:09Speaker 5: for sure he was going to play last week, but
- 13:11Speaker 5: I don't know. It doesn't look it doesn't look good.
- 13:12Speaker 5: And I think if Trent is dealing with an injury too,
- 13:15Speaker 5: to stick him on a plane for seven hours and
- 13:17Speaker 5: you know, it might be a little much for him.
- 13:19Speaker 5: But I thought Connor mac timert did all right last week,
- 13:21Speaker 5: so you know, I mean they've had to really beat
- 13:23Speaker 5: the bushes to try to find tackle depth. Unfortunately, a
- 13:26Speaker 5: lot of the guys that they brought in, Riley Reef,
- 13:29Speaker 5: Calvin Anderson, you know, have really been battling injuries all year.
- 13:32Speaker 5: So it's they've been scrambling all season long at the
- 13:34Speaker 5: tackle position. But you know, it feels like it's starting
- 13:36Speaker 5: to come together a little bit. I just i'd highlight,
- 13:38Speaker 5: you know, to get back to the Colts defense, to
- 13:39Speaker 5: Forrest Buckner big presence in the middle of the Colts
- 13:43Speaker 5: defensive line, and you know, I think you've seen some
- 13:45Speaker 5: struggles there from col Strange in the middle and those
- 13:47Speaker 5: you know rookies playing in the middle as well, so
- 13:49Speaker 5: that could be a real challenge up getting you know,
- 13:51Speaker 5: pressure right out on Mac Jones's lap as soon as
- 13:53Speaker 5: he drops back.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 6: I do think back to that game last year when
- 13:56Speaker 6: they played the Colts in Foxborough. I thought Buckner really
- 13:59Speaker 6: controlled the game from the inside. I thought he gave
- 14:01Speaker 6: Andrews in Strange some trouble. It's not an over explosive
- 14:06Speaker 6: pass rush though on the edges. You know, we'll go
- 14:08Speaker 6: back and I agree you guys mentioned I thought the
- 14:11Speaker 6: offensive line wasn't perfect, but I think the last couple
- 14:14Speaker 6: of weeks.
- 14:15Speaker 5: It's trending in the right direction.
- 14:16Speaker 6: They're giving him a little bit more time, and mac
- 14:19Speaker 6: Jones has not necessarily been under siege for the whole game.
- 14:23Speaker 6: It hasn't been perfect. I don't think the Colts have
- 14:25Speaker 6: those kinds of you know, this is not the days
- 14:27Speaker 6: of Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney on the edges.
- 14:29Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:30Speaker 6: It's quitty pay, you know. And I think Buckner is
- 14:34Speaker 6: the guy to really focus on upfront. That's the best
- 14:36Speaker 6: guy that they have, and probably on the whole defense,
- 14:38Speaker 6: but certainly in the front seven.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Let's mention Kenny Moore too, had two pick sixes last week,
- 14:41Speaker 5: a former Patriot was briefly in New England as an
- 14:44Speaker 5: undrafted rookie.
- 14:45Speaker 8: I think back in twenties, Stone and Stone throw the
- 14:47Speaker 8: ball right to him like Bryce.
- 14:49Speaker 5: That idea gonna end up in six ye.
- 14:51Speaker 7: I mean one of them was like on a screen
- 14:53Speaker 7: pass that he just Bryce Young just threw it five
- 14:55Speaker 7: yards over the guy's head and Kenny Moore just caught
- 14:57Speaker 7: it and ran it back. But Buckner is a good one,
- 15:00Speaker 7: I think because it's a nice little litmus test for
- 15:02Speaker 7: Cole Strange.
- 15:03Speaker 5: And City.
- 15:03Speaker 7: So but mainly for me Cole Strange, like col Strange
- 15:07Speaker 7: got benched in this game last year because of DeForest Buckner,
- 15:10Speaker 7: So can he show that he's kind of made that
- 15:13Speaker 7: next step.
- 15:15Speaker 8: I think we'll find that out a little bit in
- 15:16Speaker 8: this game.
- 15:17Speaker 7: And this is a Seattle three Gus Bradley cover three
- 15:21Speaker 7: zone defense.
- 15:21Speaker 8: They played more.
- 15:22Speaker 7: Zone defense than any league, any team in the league,
- 15:24Speaker 7: so there should be open receivers.
- 15:26Speaker 5: I think that's good for Matt Jones.
- 15:28Speaker 6: I think he's had more success against those kinds of
- 15:30Speaker 6: defenses than he has the man man stuff.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm kind of forgot about that game last year.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I put that out of my memory.
- 15:37Speaker 8: It was really one of the worst defensive games I've
- 15:39Speaker 8: ever seen.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Yeah, both ways. Yeah, I don't know if you remember,
- 15:43Speaker 5: but you know, back when they were playing Seattle in
- 15:45Speaker 5: the Super Bowl, I remember Tom Brady and yeah, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 5: talking about schematically how to defeat that kind of cover three.
- 15:50Speaker 5: I think was a lot of like crossers and really
- 15:52Speaker 5: trying to check them vertically. Yeah.
- 15:55Speaker 7: I don't know how how x's and nosy we want
- 15:58Speaker 7: to get, but you just did that for two. But
- 16:01Speaker 7: the two things that I think you look at first
- 16:03Speaker 7: of all, you know they played this defense. Seattle and
- 16:06Speaker 7: Atlanta both ran this defense in the Super Bowl against
- 16:09Speaker 7: the Patriots. James White and Shane Vereen both had huge
- 16:12Speaker 7: games in the passing game in both those games. So
- 16:15Speaker 7: you can get the running backs matched up against linebackers
- 16:18Speaker 7: in space in this defense. And that's where Ramandre Stevenson
- 16:21Speaker 7: I think is going to be a big factor in
- 16:23Speaker 7: this game.
- 16:23Speaker 8: I thought he ran routes better last week.
- 16:26Speaker 7: I really should have had a huge play on that
- 16:28Speaker 7: wheel route if Mac puts it on him too. So
- 16:30Speaker 7: I think statistically he could have had a huge day
- 16:32Speaker 7: in the passing game if all had gone well for him.
- 16:35Speaker 7: And maybe this is one of those matchups where he
- 16:38Speaker 7: does catch a lot of passes coming out of the
- 16:40Speaker 7: backfield working against you know, Shaq Leonard or those linebackers.
- 16:45Speaker 7: So I look at that crossing routes are always you know,
- 16:47Speaker 7: good against single high defenses, but they play a lot
- 16:50Speaker 7: of Mabel coverage. So this is where we're getting into,
- 16:52Speaker 7: like like the real nerdy stuff, but Mabel coverage. You know,
- 16:57Speaker 7: you have like the X receiver is going to be
- 16:59Speaker 7: locked into man man with the corner and then it's
- 17:01Speaker 7: it's basically like the NFL's version of like a box
- 17:04Speaker 7: and one defense, right where like you got this guy
- 17:07Speaker 7: and then we're gonna play zone everywhere else. And so
- 17:09Speaker 7: those coverages are built to stop the crossing routes because
- 17:13Speaker 7: they know that's what teams are going to try.
- 17:14Speaker 8: To do against them.
- 17:15Speaker 7: So that's how Kenny Moore got Bryce Young. So Bryce,
- 17:18Speaker 7: you didn't recognize that it was man to man on
- 17:21Speaker 7: the backside and thought he could just check it down
- 17:24Speaker 7: to the back and just flip it over to the
- 17:26Speaker 7: back and check it down.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Okay, So let me ask, does anyone know what the
- 17:30Speaker 3: hell he's talking about?
- 17:32Speaker 8: Okay, all right, we've got one.
- 17:35Speaker 3: We got some xs and those people, all right, a
- 17:40Speaker 3: BRONC guy.
- 17:40Speaker 8: Yeah, we should we should have brought the whiteboard.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So tomorrow we'll be giving our predictions, and we're going
- 17:50Speaker 3: to be doing this show from Gibson Club. So we'll
- 17:54Speaker 3: give our predictions tomorrow as to what we think is
- 17:56Speaker 3: gonna happen with the Patriots. But there's a lot of
- 17:59Speaker 3: other things to talk with this team. And one of
- 18:01Speaker 3: the great things about working for the Patriots is the
- 18:05Speaker 3: Craft family has always we've been doing this show by
- 18:08Speaker 3: the way, since two thousand, so we've been doing this
- 18:11Speaker 3: show for twenty three years.
- 18:12Speaker 5: It's not the world's original podcast.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the word and it's the longest running podcast
- 18:18Speaker 3: in the world, in the world, not just in sports.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Check Wikipedia if you don't believe us. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 3: So one of the great things about working for the
- 18:25Speaker 3: Patriots is the Crafts demand that we be honest, that
- 18:30Speaker 3: we we say what we feel. And you know, as
- 18:34Speaker 3: long as it's fair and it's about football and the team,
- 18:38Speaker 3: it's okay. So when you listen or watch our show,
- 18:43Speaker 3: you're always going to hear what we really feel. This
- 18:45Speaker 3: isn't pr spin. So you know, one of the things
- 18:48Speaker 3: that people have been talking about, you know, back home,
- 18:52Speaker 3: is the future of you know, the team and Bill
- 18:56Speaker 3: Belichick and Mac Jones and we talk about that. You know,
- 19:00Speaker 3: we all have our own opinions about what we think
- 19:03Speaker 3: should happen. But this week there's been a lot of
- 19:06Speaker 3: rumors about Bill Belichick about teams, you know, inquiring it
- 19:11Speaker 3: to him. I don't know if any of them are true,
- 19:13Speaker 3: but it's interesting. In two games ago, there was a
- 19:17Speaker 3: report that came out before the game about the contract
- 19:21Speaker 3: of Bill Belichick, about that he before the season signed
- 19:25Speaker 3: a new contract multi year. I think it was librative
- 19:31Speaker 3: multi year contract. Nobody really knows what that means. Nobody
- 19:35Speaker 3: knows if that means two years or more. Nobody knows
- 19:38Speaker 3: what lucrative means. But for some reason, somebody put that
- 19:43Speaker 3: news out there for some reason. And again we say
- 19:48Speaker 3: what we think. We don't have answers, So the opinions
- 19:51Speaker 3: that we give up here are our own opinions. They're
- 19:55Speaker 3: not anyone else's from the team. So I just want
- 19:57Speaker 3: to make sure people know that. But it's my opinion
- 20:00Speaker 3: that the team put that info out there just in
- 20:04Speaker 3: case another team was interested in Bill Belichick, they would
- 20:07Speaker 3: know if you contact him, that's tampering because he is
- 20:11Speaker 3: under contract, and if you really are interested, you're gonna
- 20:15Speaker 3: have to go through the Crafts and no one else
- 20:18Speaker 3: because he's under contract. That's just my opinion. But you know,
- 20:24Speaker 3: you guys can agree or disagree.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I really couldn't agree or disagree.
- 20:28Speaker 6: I don't have the information that you know that these
- 20:31Speaker 6: reports come from. And I think it's interesting this week
- 20:34Speaker 6: you mentioned that you know, Bill has sort of been
- 20:37Speaker 6: a little bit more on the hot seat. I think
- 20:38Speaker 6: the Boston Globe has gone so far as to say,
- 20:41Speaker 6: this is a huge game for Bill. You know, if
- 20:43Speaker 6: it doesn't go well, then who knows what's gonna happen.
- 20:45Speaker 6: I don't necessarily fall into that category. I don't see
- 20:49Speaker 6: really any scenario that Bill Belichick is not the coach
- 20:52Speaker 6: at the end of the season.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Now.
- 20:53Speaker 6: I don't know what's going to happen next year, moving forward.
- 20:56Speaker 6: I think that's more where you know, the uncertainty comes from.
- 20:59Speaker 6: But I don't see it ending, you know, mid season.
- 21:01Speaker 6: I don't really.
- 21:02Speaker 5: See what's to be gained by that. I don't either.
- 21:04Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's it's just it's a complicated situation
- 21:06Speaker 5: because of not only the past, but he's, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 5: seventy two years old, so you know, another team has
- 21:10Speaker 5: to realize it's gonna take them a little it's gonna
- 21:13Speaker 5: take them a little while to get the program up
- 21:15Speaker 5: to speed, to get his players in. It's it's not
- 21:17Speaker 5: like he's gonna just waltz in and say I got
- 21:19Speaker 5: all the guys I need, this is the team I want,
- 21:20Speaker 5: and we're going to war. I mean, we know what
- 21:22Speaker 5: kind of changes they made. Paul, you were here and Fred,
- 21:24Speaker 5: you know, in two thousand when he got here, and
- 21:26Speaker 5: that you know, they didn't even have enough players to
- 21:28Speaker 5: feel fifty three guys on the team. So it's it's
- 21:31Speaker 5: a complicated situation. I mean, I agree with Paul. I
- 21:34Speaker 5: think this coach has been here, he deserves He's going
- 21:36Speaker 5: to be here through the rest of this season. But
- 21:38Speaker 5: it is interesting just going into the bye week off
- 21:40Speaker 5: of this game, because if it isn't Bill, what changes
- 21:42Speaker 5: do you make if they were to be two and
- 21:44Speaker 5: eight at that point.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Yes, So what's really sort of interested me, Freddie when
- 21:48Speaker 6: listening to all of the stuff, is you know, listening
- 21:52Speaker 6: to to fans and people that are really passionate about
- 21:54Speaker 6: the team. It used to be like ninety nine percent
- 21:58Speaker 6: or more just all on Belichick's side, and now I
- 22:02Speaker 6: feel like it's been really interesting to see that line
- 22:05Speaker 6: switch a little bit, and people are, you know, getting impatient.
- 22:09Speaker 6: They're upset with the fact that it's been four years
- 22:12Speaker 6: now post Tom Brady with a team doesn't seem to
- 22:15Speaker 6: be back on track, and I think a lot of
- 22:17Speaker 6: people are looking at Bill Belichick and I'm really I'm
- 22:20Speaker 6: not surprised by it because obviously the results are what
- 22:22Speaker 6: they are, but it has been eye opening to see
- 22:26Speaker 6: how quickly that evolved.
- 22:27Speaker 5: And you would think a guy who won.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Six Super Bowls obviously that's the reason why he's here, right,
- 22:31Speaker 6: I mean, his track record puts him in line to
- 22:34Speaker 6: be the best coach that's ever done it. So it's
- 22:37Speaker 6: I think it's not an easy situation for the Crafts
- 22:39Speaker 6: and for us and for the team trying to figure
- 22:42Speaker 6: out exactly how to go when this season's over. But
- 22:45Speaker 6: at two and seven, you know you got half a
- 22:47Speaker 6: season left to sort of right the ship a little
- 22:49Speaker 6: bit and at least get things going back in the
- 22:52Speaker 6: right direction.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I just feel like mid season it just there
- 22:56Speaker 7: has to be some sort of respect level for what
- 22:59Speaker 7: he's accomplished here and agreed and like Tom Brady Fread's the.
- 23:03Speaker 5: One he'll He'll be the one to give him a respect.
- 23:06Speaker 7: And I've been you know, people that listen to the show,
- 23:09Speaker 7: you know regularly know that, like I have a lot
- 23:12Speaker 7: of issues with Bill a coach right now and build
- 23:14Speaker 7: a GM. But when you look at it at the
- 23:16Speaker 7: end of the season, you know, it didn't end with
- 23:19Speaker 7: Brady the way I think anybody really would have wanted
- 23:22Speaker 7: it to end, and it took a couple of years
- 23:24Speaker 7: for that relationship to get to the point where it
- 23:26Speaker 7: is now where he's coming week one and they have
- 23:29Speaker 7: the event in June.
- 23:30Speaker 8: And things like that.
- 23:31Speaker 7: You don't want that same sort of ill will with
- 23:34Speaker 7: Bill Belichick, Like this is somebody that we want to
- 23:37Speaker 7: be a part of the Patriots organization, of the Patriots history.
- 23:41Speaker 7: We want Bill to come back for retirement ceremonies and
- 23:44Speaker 7: for Patriots Hall of Fame inductions and obviously Pro Football
- 23:48Speaker 7: Hall of Fame inductions and all that kind of stuff.
- 23:51Speaker 7: And if you that's embarrassing to get fired mid season.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Like that is a huge you can't do that to him, No,
- 23:57Speaker 3: And I.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Think he's earned it, Like I think he's earned the
- 23:59Speaker 7: right to at least end it amicably in the right way,
- 24:03Speaker 7: and like it. I also think he's earned not getting
- 24:05Speaker 7: fired on Black Monday, like if they like, I don't
- 24:08Speaker 7: think you fire him week eighteen, the day after the
- 24:10Speaker 7: season ends, and like all these other coaches, unfortunately, you're
- 24:13Speaker 7: all going to get canned. You know, we'll wake up
- 24:15Speaker 7: Monday morning and six coaches will have been fired.
- 24:18Speaker 8: Like I think that you that you have to handle
- 24:20Speaker 8: this situation differently yeah, and those types of things.
- 24:23Speaker 3: You know that said, Let's say things don't get better
- 24:26Speaker 3: this season and the Patriots end up only winning the
- 24:29Speaker 3: two games that they have or three maybe, and you know,
- 24:32Speaker 3: they've got this really high draft pick and they have
- 24:35Speaker 3: the opportunity to pick one of the best quarterbacks of
- 24:37Speaker 3: the draft. And we'll get into mac Jones in a
- 24:40Speaker 3: little bit, but you know, it's my opinion that if
- 24:44Speaker 3: you're drafting for the Patriots and the quarterback that you
- 24:47Speaker 3: really love becomes available, you got to get them. It's
- 24:50Speaker 3: really hard to get great quarterbacks in this league, so
- 24:53Speaker 3: you have to pick that quarterback. And if you do,
- 24:57Speaker 3: don't you want to coach a head coach to be
- 25:01Speaker 3: with that quarterback for the long term. You know, you
- 25:04Speaker 3: want the coach and the quarterback to go into the
- 25:07Speaker 3: future together. And even if you love Bill Belichick, like Mike,
- 25:11Speaker 3: he's seventy two, how much longer is he going to
- 25:14Speaker 3: be here? You're hoping that the quarterback that you choose,
- 25:17Speaker 3: if he's a top quarterback, is going to be here
- 25:19Speaker 3: for ten years, ten plus years. So it's it's a
- 25:24Speaker 3: little bit of a catch twenty two. Not to steal
- 25:26Speaker 3: your show's name, you know, but what do you do
- 25:30Speaker 3: if you have the opportunity to get that young quarterback.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Do you want a young coach, you know, one of
- 25:36Speaker 3: those new offensive minded coaches that are doing so well
- 25:39Speaker 3: around the league. Do you want him to come in
- 25:41Speaker 3: at the same time so that they can grow together.
- 25:44Speaker 3: It's it's a real complicated it's a real issue. It's
- 25:47Speaker 3: a real issue.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 7: And to that point too, do you trust Bill based
- 25:52Speaker 7: off of what he did with Mac Jones to build
- 25:55Speaker 7: around Drake may or build around Caleb Williams or you know?
- 25:59Speaker 7: And I think that's where I think most people's biggest
- 26:01Speaker 7: issues back home with Belichick is actually more the GM
- 26:05Speaker 7: side of things and the talent on the roster, especially
- 26:07Speaker 7: on the offensive side of the ball. If you draft
- 26:10Speaker 7: another quarterback and you give them the same you know,
- 26:14Speaker 7: supporting cast that Mac has gotten, why would we think
- 26:17Speaker 7: that that it's gonna go significantly differently. Like, obviously, maybe
- 26:21Speaker 7: that quarterback's better than Mac and he makes it look
- 26:24Speaker 7: a little bit better. But if it's three offensive coordinators
- 26:27Speaker 7: in three years and really no number one receiver and
- 26:31Speaker 7: the offensive lines in shambles, is that rookie is what's.
- 26:35Speaker 8: He gonna do?
- 26:35Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:36Speaker 7: You know, he's gonna look at it the same way
- 26:38Speaker 7: that Mac does. So I think that that's a big
- 26:40Speaker 7: thing for me too, is like philosophically, is Bill going
- 26:43Speaker 7: to pay T Higgins twenty five million dollars next year
- 26:46Speaker 7: so that Drake May has somebody to throw to? Or
- 26:49Speaker 7: is he gonna look at it the same way and
- 26:50Speaker 7: sign Nelson Akalaur and Kendrick Bourne.
- 26:52Speaker 6: You know, I love how Evan just work maps it
- 26:54Speaker 6: all out like hypothetically, like you know, is Drake May
- 26:57Speaker 6: gonna be able to throw the ball to T Higgins
- 26:59Speaker 6: and then they're gonna.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Paul because Drake May is gonna throw the ball to
- 27:02Speaker 7: T Higgins all right, and then Pop Douglas is going
- 27:04Speaker 7: to be the number two in the slot and we're
- 27:06Speaker 7: going back to the Super Bowl.
- 27:08Speaker 8: I'm here for that, like I'm here. I'm here for
- 27:11Speaker 8: that part.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Okay, thank you? All right?
- 27:14Speaker 8: I just fixed it. Boom bight drop.
- 27:16Speaker 5: So who's coaching that exactly?
- 27:19Speaker 8: That's exactly the problem.
- 27:20Speaker 7: And I also look at Bill O'Brien and and know that,
- 27:23Speaker 7: you know, he's an ambitious guy, and we've already heard
- 27:26Speaker 7: some rumors connecting him to some college jobs already.
- 27:29Speaker 5: This season.
- 27:30Speaker 8: So if he it's the same, it's the same carouself.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Like if he goes and and he leaves after one
- 27:36Speaker 7: year with the rookie quarterback, that's like Josh McDaniels did
- 27:38Speaker 7: in twenty twenty two. You're right back to where you
- 27:41Speaker 7: were in year two with Mac, where you have another
- 27:43Speaker 7: coordinator and you know it's just the same thing.
- 27:46Speaker 8: So you have to get out of that cycle somehow.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, So we mentioned Mac Jones during the course of
- 27:52Speaker 3: this latest discussion, and now he's in his third year,
- 27:56Speaker 3: and last year was a disaster because they had a
- 28:00Speaker 3: defensive coordinator who had never been an offensive coordinator, as
- 28:03Speaker 3: also his head coach his quarterbacks coach, and it didn't
- 28:08Speaker 3: work out. Actually, i'm sorry, Joe Judge was his quarterback
- 28:10Speaker 3: who was a special teams coach. So they had two
- 28:12Speaker 3: coaches in places who had never done what they were
- 28:15Speaker 3: being asked to do last year, and they were doing
- 28:17Speaker 3: it with a young quarterback and it didn't work out.
- 28:20Speaker 3: So everybody was hoping that this third year, you bring
- 28:24Speaker 3: in Bill O'Brien, who that's all he's done really is
- 28:27Speaker 3: either been a head coach or an offensive coordinator, and
- 28:30Speaker 3: things were going to get a lot better, and they
- 28:32Speaker 3: really haven't, you know, you all know, and a lot
- 28:38Speaker 3: of talk back home is, okay, where does the blame fall?
- 28:42Speaker 3: Is it just Mac? Or is it the fact that
- 28:45Speaker 3: the offensive line hasn't played well, that he doesn't have
- 28:48Speaker 3: a top flight receiver. He's now going on his third coordinator.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You know, it's a tough position for Mac, for sure,
- 28:56Speaker 3: but you have to admit, you know, there's been problem well, And.
- 29:00Speaker 6: That's why a lot of these things, I think are
- 29:02Speaker 6: complicated because there's so many different ways of looking at it,
- 29:05Speaker 6: you know, And I think there's a lot of people
- 29:07Speaker 6: that have fiercely loyal to Bill Belichick for all the
- 29:10Speaker 6: games that he's won. So some of those people look
- 29:12Speaker 6: at Mac Jones and say he's not good enough. And
- 29:14Speaker 6: then there's people that look at some of the things
- 29:16Speaker 6: that Bill has done with Mac, like Evan pointed out,
- 29:18Speaker 6: and they wondered, well, well, Mac needs more support, And
- 29:20Speaker 6: then they look at the offensive line. They had an opportunity,
- 29:23Speaker 6: they had a whole let tackle and they didn't take one.
- 29:26Speaker 6: And now you spent the better part of the first
- 29:29Speaker 6: nine games giving up a lot of quarterback pressure. It's like,
- 29:32Speaker 6: and Mac doesn't have a chance. And so every time,
- 29:35Speaker 6: no matter who you talk to, someone has a different
- 29:37Speaker 6: opinion as to what the biggest problem is, which is
- 29:40Speaker 6: how you get to two and seven because it's never
- 29:42Speaker 6: that simple.
- 29:43Speaker 5: There are a lot of things that are lacking. It's
- 29:44Speaker 5: like a chicken or the egg theory, and that's what
- 29:46Speaker 5: we've kind of been doing. Of course, we're here before
- 29:48Speaker 5: the bye week trying to get to the bottom of
- 29:50Speaker 5: all their problems and figure out who the coach is
- 29:51Speaker 5: going to be and who they're going to draft. But
- 29:53Speaker 5: you know, specific to Mac, I mean, it's just like
- 29:55Speaker 5: you said, Fred, I thought when Bill O'Brien came in,
- 29:57Speaker 5: and even when we met Bill O'Brien for the first
- 30:00Speaker 5: time this spring and he came in and had a
- 30:01Speaker 5: media availability and it was like, wow, it feels like
- 30:03Speaker 5: there's like an adult in the building, Like there's a
- 30:05Speaker 5: guy who knows offense and knows what he wants. And
- 30:08Speaker 5: that moment you were excited and felt like, all right,
- 30:10Speaker 5: he can really turn things around. And I think we've
- 30:12Speaker 5: gotten to this point in the season where it feels
- 30:15Speaker 5: like Mac is really struggling to stay in sync with
- 30:18Speaker 5: the offense, and you know, it's it's certainly he doesn't
- 30:21Speaker 5: have a lot around him, but I don't think he's
- 30:22Speaker 5: you know, as we said, we talked a little bit
- 30:24Speaker 5: about c J. Stroud here and what he was able
- 30:26Speaker 5: to do last week, and it's you know, a one
- 30:27Speaker 5: off kind of example, and it's hard to compare that
- 30:30Speaker 5: one guy had a great game and you know, pulled
- 30:32Speaker 5: out an upset. But it's hard as a Patriots fan
- 30:34Speaker 5: to see what he did and said, well, he's not
- 30:36Speaker 5: really working with all that much. How is he able
- 30:38Speaker 5: to do that? So I don't know if we're going
- 30:40Speaker 5: to get the answer this year, but it's it's it's
- 30:41Speaker 5: around and around we go. Yeah.
- 30:43Speaker 7: I mean Mac has to take some of the blame
- 30:46Speaker 7: or some of the fall for it, because especially the
- 30:48Speaker 7: last couple of weeks since they've moved on WHENU to
- 30:51Speaker 7: right tackle, the line, play has been okay, has it been?
- 30:55Speaker 7: They're not you know, the nineteen nineties Cowboys, but like
- 30:57Speaker 7: they're they're protecting the quarterback and he's not under siege
- 31:01Speaker 7: all the time, and there's plays to be made on
- 31:03Speaker 7: the tape where there's open receivers and he's just not
- 31:06Speaker 7: seeing them, or the timing of the play is off
- 31:08Speaker 7: or sometimes like against the Commanders, he's just flat out
- 31:11Speaker 7: missing the throws. You know, Taekwon Thornton on fourth down
- 31:14Speaker 7: is open, he just misses the throw. Ormandre on the
- 31:16Speaker 7: wheel route open and he you know, underthrows him.
- 31:19Speaker 8: So those players are there to be made.
- 31:21Speaker 7: I think, you know, some of the things that have
- 31:23Speaker 7: been talked about back home about you know, his postgame
- 31:26Speaker 7: press conference and how he was saying he kind of
- 31:29Speaker 7: agreed with a question that said that he doesn't exactly
- 31:31Speaker 7: have an all star cast around him. When I look
- 31:35Speaker 7: at that more, if you know, some people are trying
- 31:37Speaker 7: to make that out to be this shot, which it
- 31:39Speaker 7: might have been. But I also look at it him
- 31:41Speaker 7: like I think he believes that which is infecting his play,
- 31:44Speaker 7: Like if he just handled what he could handle and
- 31:47Speaker 7: controlled what he could control. I think the biggest thing
- 31:49Speaker 7: like watching him play, he's really sped up, like his
- 31:52Speaker 7: decision making and stuff like that, and.
- 31:54Speaker 8: He looks frantic when he's playing.
- 31:56Speaker 7: If I was Bill O'Brien, I would just be like
- 31:58Speaker 7: just just calm down, like just settle down, like take
- 32:01Speaker 7: a breath, you know, collect yourself.
- 32:04Speaker 8: Play slower, you know, play.
- 32:05Speaker 7: Within the confines of the scheme and like, don't think
- 32:09Speaker 7: about all these other variables of you know there's pressure here,
- 32:12Speaker 7: and you know my feet are here, and the receiver
- 32:15Speaker 7: is you know, not exactly as open as I thought
- 32:17Speaker 7: he would be or whatever. Just run the plays that
- 32:19Speaker 7: are being called and control your own process, and I
- 32:23Speaker 7: think there would be better results because I do think
- 32:25Speaker 7: there are opportunities for him to make some plays.
- 32:27Speaker 6: And I think it's been interesting listening to Bill O'Brien
- 32:29Speaker 6: a little bit. He talked on Tuesday, and there I
- 32:34Speaker 6: mean not openly critical, but some references to plays that
- 32:37Speaker 6: Evan's talking about that are being missed. And I know
- 32:40Speaker 6: everybody you know went in with the assumption that Bill
- 32:44Speaker 6: O'Brien would fix everything, and I think now people are wondering, well,
- 32:47Speaker 6: what's Bill O'Brien doing, Like why does the offense look
- 32:50Speaker 6: just as bad as it did last year? And I
- 32:51Speaker 6: think some of these comments that you're hearing are like, no,
- 32:54Speaker 6: we just we need to everybody, we all need to
- 32:58Speaker 6: do better. There are opportunities to make and we're missing them.
- 33:01Speaker 6: I thought it was that reference to the Taekwon Dorton
- 33:04Speaker 6: play that you're talking about on Full of Down that
- 33:06Speaker 6: Billy oh made the other day was eye opening to me.
- 33:08Speaker 6: And then you know, you start hearing some of the
- 33:10Speaker 6: other shows with our buddy Burt Breer, you know, talking
- 33:13Speaker 6: about people in the building mentioning some of these opportunities missed.
- 33:17Speaker 5: That's the question I keep coming back to Paul's just
- 33:19Speaker 5: what would happen if Mack hits the opportunities that are
- 33:21Speaker 5: there for him? Like what does that look like? And
- 33:23Speaker 5: you know, I still am kind of waiting for that
- 33:24Speaker 5: game because you know, there's plenty of videos going around
- 33:27Speaker 5: of the last couple of games, and you know, like
- 33:29Speaker 5: you guys mentioned some of those shots that were there,
- 33:31Speaker 5: but you know, Kenny hit those and all of a sudden,
- 33:33Speaker 5: you know, maybe he starts to get some confidence, He
- 33:35Speaker 5: slows down a little bit, his footwork gets back on track,
- 33:38Speaker 5: and you know, maybe then there is something there. They
- 33:40Speaker 5: start to win a few games and then we're not
- 33:42Speaker 5: really talking about, Hey, let's get Drake May and Kal,
- 33:44Speaker 5: but we can build.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Around that you talk about like you know, Evan said,
- 33:47Speaker 6: you know, he looks sped up, and I think of
- 33:49Speaker 6: that wheel route to Stevenson where I thought the pocket
- 33:52Speaker 6: was decent. Yeah, and he still kind of faded away
- 33:54Speaker 6: from the throw and threw off his back foot.
- 33:56Speaker 5: The ball floated a little bit.
- 33:58Speaker 6: That's the play of the Washington line back or sort
- 34:00Speaker 6: of the last second got his hand up and knocked
- 34:02Speaker 6: the ball. But if the pass is sort of to
- 34:05Speaker 6: the outside, over the top of the shoulder, I don't
- 34:07Speaker 6: think the linebacker can do anything about touchdown, you know.
- 34:10Speaker 6: And I do think and you mentioned, you know, all
- 34:12Speaker 6: the running back stuff against the Colts specifically, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 6: against the Seattle you know, cover three, And I do
- 34:19Speaker 6: think that Stevenson has been a bigger part of the
- 34:21Speaker 6: passing game the last couple of games, and they're making
- 34:25Speaker 6: an effort for that. You know, we didn't even going
- 34:27Speaker 6: back to the Buffalo game where he made the big
- 34:29Speaker 6: play with the screen at the end of the game.
- 34:31Speaker 6: So I'd look for Stevenson on Sunday, maybe more as
- 34:34Speaker 6: a receiver.
- 34:34Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, he made some really good ransom, really
- 34:36Speaker 7: good routes. I think that you know, Jermaine Davis, the
- 34:39Speaker 7: linebacker for the Commanders, it's kind of like more like
- 34:41Speaker 7: a Jawan Bentley, you run, an enforcer type, and they
- 34:44Speaker 7: kind of targeted him a little bit in the passing
- 34:46Speaker 7: game and Ramandre Stevenson was open a lot in that game,
- 34:49Speaker 7: and they did make some plays, you know, third down
- 34:51Speaker 7: plays things like that, other than the wheel route. But
- 34:53Speaker 7: the wheel route is just one of those things that
- 34:56Speaker 7: there is a little bit of pressure that's coming up
- 34:58Speaker 7: through the middle, and as an NFL quarterback, like you
- 35:00Speaker 7: just got to stand in there and step into the
- 35:03Speaker 7: throw and take the hit.
- 35:04Speaker 6: Like that's that's what first player too at the end
- 35:07Speaker 6: of the game, right, just like a little skinny post
- 35:09Speaker 6: Amos too, Yeah, you know him kind of like just
- 35:12Speaker 6: jamming out of the back Like.
- 35:13Speaker 7: That's just that's that's what an NFL pocket is, Like.
- 35:17Speaker 7: It's not it's not always gonna just be this like
- 35:19Speaker 7: perfectly clean pocket. Sometimes it's gonna be a little muddy.
- 35:22Speaker 7: There's gonna be some people around you, and you have
- 35:24Speaker 7: to be able to just calmly stand.
- 35:26Speaker 8: In there and make throws.
- 35:28Speaker 7: And I think sometimes we see with Mac that that
- 35:31Speaker 7: he doesn't do that as often as he should.
- 35:33Speaker 3: So our team, our team has a lot of work
- 35:36Speaker 3: to do. But the one thing that we can all
- 35:40Speaker 3: I don't know, feel good about is that the Crafts
- 35:43Speaker 3: want to win more than we do. So they know
- 35:47Speaker 3: and They're not gonna sit still. They're gonna do whatever
- 35:50Speaker 3: they think they need to do to get the Patriots
- 35:53Speaker 3: back to the winning ways that we've been used to.
- 35:56Speaker 3: So that's one thing that we can all hang our
- 35:58Speaker 3: hat on, is that the Crafts want to win more
- 36:01Speaker 3: than we do. Another thing we do on this show
- 36:03Speaker 3: is we take emails and we take calls. People around
- 36:07Speaker 3: the world can call us at eight five to five
- 36:08Speaker 3: PATS five hundred. That's our phone number. So phone lines
- 36:13Speaker 3: are open if people want to call. If you want
- 36:14Speaker 3: to email the show, it's web radio at pages dot com.
- 36:18Speaker 3: We've got emails coming in now. One is from Chad
- 36:22Speaker 3: in Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia. He says, can we acknowledge the
- 36:25Speaker 3: cajones on the media member who asked Bill if his
- 36:28Speaker 3: job was in jeopardy You couldn't pay me to ask that.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I'd be afraid he'd make me run laps question. What
- 36:36Speaker 3: could Bill do, if anything, to save his job at
- 36:39Speaker 3: this point if it's in danger.
- 36:41Speaker 5: Win, I mean win games. They got to, I mean
- 36:43Speaker 5: produce points and win games. I think that's the direct.
- 36:45Speaker 6: The second part of that, I think is get get
- 36:48Speaker 6: mac Jones more comfortable.
- 36:50Speaker 5: Score thirty points against the Colts, and you know you're
- 36:52Speaker 5: going to all of a sudden, you know, fred I
- 36:54Speaker 5: just they put Mike Rabel into the Hall of Fame
- 36:55Speaker 5: a couple weeks ago, and you saw I think the
- 36:58Speaker 5: bill that we all wish we saw more of, which
- 37:00Speaker 5: was the talkative, funny storytelling Bill, and you know, it
- 37:03Speaker 5: was just for me a little bit of a reminder
- 37:04Speaker 5: of you know what a person who's seen so much,
- 37:07Speaker 5: who knows so much about the game. But I think
- 37:09Speaker 5: it's a simple answer, and that's score points, win games.
- 37:12Speaker 5: And you know, starting this week, it'd be great come
- 37:14Speaker 5: here to Frankfurt, reset a little bit, got a great
- 37:17Speaker 5: international fan base that's coming out to support the team,
- 37:19Speaker 5: some renewed energy, and then you go home and all right,
- 37:22Speaker 5: maybe we found something there in Frankfurt, you know. And look,
- 37:24Speaker 5: it might be too far gone at this point. They're
- 37:25Speaker 5: two and seven. I'm not, you know, saying they're going
- 37:27Speaker 5: to make the playoffs. And I know there are plenty
- 37:29Speaker 5: fans out there that want to lose every game and
- 37:31Speaker 5: get that number one overall pick and get that quarterback.
- 37:33Speaker 5: But I still think that there's some positivity could be had, you.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Know, in my opinion, you know, winning is the obvious answer,
- 37:40Speaker 3: but the other thing is to keep the locker room together.
- 37:44Speaker 3: You know, we talked about the Jack Jones thing in J. C. Jackson,
- 37:48Speaker 3: and we don't know what happened, but there was some
- 37:51Speaker 3: disciplinary stuff going on. And that's the type of thing
- 37:54Speaker 3: that happens to teams that aren't doing well. Yep, guys start,
- 37:59Speaker 3: you know, getting off the program and they start doing
- 38:01Speaker 3: their own thing and they stop listening. And you know,
- 38:05Speaker 3: back in the day, I'm not saying that that didn't
- 38:07Speaker 3: happen when the Patriots are winning Super Bowls, but you
- 38:10Speaker 3: had locker room leaders that would, as Evan said, they
- 38:14Speaker 3: police themselves. You know, Bill Belichick didn't have to go
- 38:17Speaker 3: into the locker room on Wednesday and rip everyone a
- 38:20Speaker 3: new one because he had his players that would do
- 38:24Speaker 3: that for him.
- 38:24Speaker 5: That guy Teddy Bruski right behind you on that monitor
- 38:27Speaker 5: just popped up in an old Patriots will Rodney Harrison
- 38:32Speaker 5: go down the line?
- 38:33Speaker 6: Got it?
- 38:35Speaker 3: These guys, And so you wonder, you know, we know
- 38:38Speaker 3: that Matthew Slater is a leader, but he's a special
- 38:42Speaker 3: teams guy. He doesn't even really practice with the team.
- 38:44Speaker 3: He does his own thing. So no disrespect. You don't
- 38:47Speaker 3: disrespect to Matthew Slater, But how are those guys that
- 38:50Speaker 3: is going to grab a teammate by the grill and
- 38:53Speaker 3: tell them, hey, let's get it together. And you know,
- 38:57Speaker 3: that's one of the things that I think Bill needs
- 38:59Speaker 3: to do right now is make sure that that locker
- 39:01Speaker 3: room finishes strong down the stretch.
- 39:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, Freddy, And that is why when Mike
- 39:06Speaker 6: said the second part of that, like getting the offense.
- 39:09Speaker 6: But if his job isn't and we don't know, we
- 39:12Speaker 6: just don't. But if his job is in fact sort
- 39:14Speaker 6: of in jeopardy, then that's but the way to do
- 39:17Speaker 6: it show that you you still have firm control of
- 39:19Speaker 6: the locker room and show that everybody is still willing
- 39:21Speaker 6: to follow you and put, you know, put to you.
- 39:24Speaker 6: You know, we all looked at the Buffalo game a
- 39:26Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago, and that was so refreshing because
- 39:29Speaker 6: it was a change to the narrative. It was pretty
- 39:33Speaker 6: productive offense for sixty minutes. It was a last second drive,
- 39:36Speaker 6: you know, come from behind things we hadn't really seen
- 39:39Speaker 6: a lot of since you know who left and and
- 39:41Speaker 6: all of.
- 39:42Speaker 8: A sudden, there was there was there was some hope.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Well, I don't want to upset Deuce.
- 39:46Speaker 3: So Mike doesn't like Tom.
- 39:48Speaker 5: Mike doesn't. I'm only kidding.
- 39:49Speaker 6: It's it's sort of a stick at this point, Mike,
- 39:52Speaker 6: Mike got bored and you know I went to the
- 39:55Speaker 6: AFC Championships. Yeah, just embrace the heel the heel turn
- 40:00Speaker 6: like it. So I do think that's how that's how
- 40:03Speaker 6: it goes. Freddy, what you said, keep control of the
- 40:05Speaker 6: locker room and maybe we have a different conversation when
- 40:08Speaker 6: it's old.
- 40:08Speaker 7: Yeah, that was Dakota Randall from Nesson. By the way,
- 40:11Speaker 7: that that asks Bill that question, And you wouldn't be
- 40:14Speaker 7: paying me anymore if I asked that question. So I
- 40:16Speaker 7: might ask it in my head, but I wouldn't ask
- 40:19Speaker 7: it out.
- 40:19Speaker 5: Well, maybe we can split whatever he's making.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Mike and Charlotte North Carolina right said. I don't believe
- 40:25Speaker 3: that Bill all of a sudden forgot how to coach.
- 40:27Speaker 3: I believe the bigger issue is on the GM side
- 40:30Speaker 3: and not acquiring the correct players either through the draft
- 40:33Speaker 3: of free agency. I think the craft's easiest way to
- 40:36Speaker 3: move on is to tell Bill we're hiring a GM
- 40:39Speaker 3: and they want Bill to focus on coaching. If Bill
- 40:42Speaker 3: doesn't want to give up the GM role and leaves
- 40:44Speaker 3: the team, then the Crafts can start over with a
- 40:46Speaker 3: new GM and coaching staff without firing Bill. They will
- 40:50Speaker 3: be able to publicly say that they made an effort
- 40:52Speaker 3: to retain him.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, just to highlight the draft. That's kind
- 40:56Speaker 5: of my thing, and that's you know, I just they
- 40:57Speaker 5: haven't got the return on investment in their recent picks.
- 41:00Speaker 5: And I think it's a big reason why they don't
- 41:02Speaker 5: have the talent to kind of compete with those upper
- 41:04Speaker 5: echelon teams right now. Is you know, you just you
- 41:06Speaker 5: haven't hit on enough of those first round draft picks
- 41:09Speaker 5: that they've needed to. And you know, recent years you've
- 41:12Speaker 5: had Mac, You've had you know, you had some promise,
- 41:14Speaker 5: but just not enough of those A plus elite kind
- 41:17Speaker 5: of guys that that can really change the tenor of
- 41:19Speaker 5: a game at any second, any given play can all
- 41:21Speaker 5: of a sudden go for ninety yards and you're in
- 41:23Speaker 5: the end zone.
- 41:23Speaker 3: All right, We're gonna give this a try. We have
- 41:25Speaker 3: people calling the show as well. On the we call
- 41:28Speaker 3: it the Ace Ticket hut Line. Yeah, we've got Harvey
- 41:33Speaker 3: from Columbus, Ohio let's see Harvey, can you hear us?
- 41:38Speaker 10: Yes?
- 41:40Speaker 3: All right, what do you got Yes, let's get.
- 41:53Speaker 11: Let's get.
- 42:00Speaker 10: In the game position put him only on the field
- 42:02Speaker 10: only has nothing to do with going on at all.
- 42:06Speaker 10: Okay him, Let's get somebody else in there for the
- 42:12Speaker 10: money moves and bring them big time in there.
- 42:15Speaker 3: All right, thanks Harvey. I was having trouble hearing him.
- 42:19Speaker 7: Okay, So he's coming at Miles Bryan. Okay, There's two
- 42:25Speaker 7: things about Miles Bryant. It's obvious that they could have
- 42:28Speaker 7: a better player than Miles Bryant in that in such
- 42:31Speaker 7: a full time regular role.
- 42:34Speaker 8: But we just talked about two guys in J. C.
- 42:37Speaker 7: Jackson and Jack Jones that reportedly got bench for disciplinary reasons.
- 42:43Speaker 8: Off the field, you.
- 42:44Speaker 7: Want to say anything you can about Miles Brian gives
- 42:47Speaker 7: an f like Miles Bryan's there every single day.
- 42:49Speaker 8: Miles Brian, it works hard.
- 42:51Speaker 7: Miles Bryant plays hard, he answers questions to the media,
- 42:55Speaker 7: he doesn't run out of the locker room after the
- 42:57Speaker 7: game when he plays poorly and the refuses to talk.
- 42:59Speaker 7: So you can say, what do you want about his
- 43:01Speaker 7: talent level? And the fact that maybe they do need
- 43:03Speaker 7: to upgrade that spot from that point of view. But
- 43:05Speaker 7: you can't have guys that are just you know, skipping
- 43:08Speaker 7: out on things and not making curfew and things like
- 43:11Speaker 7: that and then come after Miles Bryant Like that's just
- 43:13Speaker 7: an unfair target in my opinion.
- 43:15Speaker 5: It's tough too with how shorthanded they've been, and I
- 43:16Speaker 5: think he's been kind of thrust into some positions is
- 43:18Speaker 5: not maybe his ideal you know, fit. But I have
- 43:21Speaker 5: to say, like I totally rubber stamp everything Evan said.
- 43:24Speaker 5: I just I think Miles Bryan is a tough player.
- 43:26Speaker 5: I think he's a little bit underrated. I just if
- 43:27Speaker 5: they were able to use him with you know, if
- 43:29Speaker 5: you still had Christian Gonzalez and Jonathan Jones is healthy
- 43:32Speaker 5: and you know, I think Miles Bryan is a piece.
- 43:34Speaker 5: You know, maybe you don't want to be relying on
- 43:36Speaker 5: him as one of your top one or two corners,
- 43:38Speaker 5: but but I he's just one of those guys on
- 43:39Speaker 5: the team right now that's become one of the targets.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Uh, let's see h Alex is in Raleigh, North Carolina. Uh,
- 43:48Speaker 3: and he says, you all got some good lighting there.
- 43:51Speaker 3: This is a great opening and great show so far.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Fred looking good in the kit. See some people like it.
- 43:56Speaker 5: I told you you had, you had your kid on it.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Question is this game where Barmore needs to make a
- 44:02Speaker 3: great impact. He's been doing well putting pressure on the
- 44:04Speaker 3: line and QB. But can he do more?
- 44:07Speaker 5: How you can do more? Played? Well, that's my guy
- 44:10Speaker 5: that's coming back on in Paul. You love him too,
- 44:13Speaker 5: I mean I have a crush on him. The Patriots
- 44:14Speaker 5: traded up to get him in twenty twenty one. I mean,
- 44:17Speaker 5: just you know, I think we all saw the potential
- 44:19Speaker 5: in him as a disruptive pass rush guy. We talked
- 44:21Speaker 5: a little bit about DeForest Buckner. Maybe not as big
- 44:23Speaker 5: as him, but we always want to have Tom Brady.
- 44:25Speaker 5: That's how you got Tom Brady right pressure up the middle, quick,
- 44:28Speaker 5: right in his lap. And I think that Barmore is
- 44:30Speaker 5: just such a useful piece. The problem has been that
- 44:33Speaker 5: they ask a lot of defensive linemen in New England.
- 44:35Speaker 5: They want them to two gap, they want them to
- 44:36Speaker 5: be able to play the run. And I think there's
- 44:38Speaker 5: been some inconsistencies, you know, in his game. So but
- 44:42Speaker 5: the last few games have been great.
- 44:43Speaker 7: Yeah, for the last month, Christian Barmore ranks second in
- 44:46Speaker 7: the league and pressures amongst defensive tackles. He's been one
- 44:49Speaker 7: of the best d tackles in the NFL for about
- 44:52Speaker 7: a month now.
- 44:53Speaker 8: He is playing out of his mind.
- 44:54Speaker 7: He had eight quarterback pressures in the game last week
- 44:56Speaker 7: against Washington.
- 44:57Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, we had Vince Wilfork was here earlier,
- 45:00Speaker 6: and they're not the same player.
- 45:03Speaker 5: I mean, obviously Vince was much bigger, you know, in
- 45:06Speaker 5: terms of just yeah, bigger.
- 45:09Speaker 6: But I think athletically that's the kind of player that
- 45:12Speaker 6: Barmore is. He's a little bit of a you know,
- 45:14Speaker 6: more athletic interior defense in lineman, and you're starting to
- 45:17Speaker 6: see some of that that show up on eight pressures
- 45:21Speaker 6: he had. I didn't realize that number. He's been really
- 45:23Speaker 6: really good now for the last several games.
- 45:25Speaker 8: Yeah, and he's also been really good against the run.
- 45:27Speaker 7: Like it's not just been the pass rush because we
- 45:29Speaker 7: know we've obviously always known. I feel like that he
- 45:31Speaker 7: can rush the passer. His rookie year, I think he
- 45:33Speaker 7: had like sixty quarterback pressures and one of the better
- 45:36Speaker 7: rookie seasons for an interior rusher. But now that he's
- 45:39Speaker 7: adding the pass the rush defense to it as well.
- 45:42Speaker 7: Now he's a three down player, Like you're talking about
- 45:44Speaker 7: a guy that can be a sixty seventy.
- 45:46Speaker 8: Five you know, sixty to sixty five percent guy.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Yeah. So you know, people talk about, you know, who
- 45:50Speaker 3: were the Patriots going to build around for the future.
- 45:53Speaker 3: I think Christian Barmour is one of those guys that
- 45:55Speaker 3: they should. Yes, I think Keon White, a guy that
- 45:58Speaker 3: they drafted this year, has shown prompt Obviously, Christian Gonzales
- 46:02Speaker 3: their first round pick this year, he got hurt and
- 46:04Speaker 3: he's not playing anymore this season, but he showed that
- 46:07Speaker 3: he can really stick with some of the best receivers
- 46:09Speaker 3: in the game. So that's promising as well. So there's
- 46:13Speaker 3: some defensive pieces that they have. Maybe they re signed
- 46:16Speaker 3: Dugger who's going to be a free agent at.
- 46:19Speaker 8: The end of the season, need to re sign.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Yeah, So there's some pieces on defense that they can
- 46:24Speaker 3: build around. So you know, the future is not all
- 46:27Speaker 3: you know, crazy.
- 46:28Speaker 5: And Pop Douglas too, rookie Debarrow and Douglas. I mean,
- 46:30Speaker 5: he's you know, had his best game, most productive game
- 46:32Speaker 5: last week, and I mean I think we all look
- 46:34Speaker 5: at Pop Douglas and say, like this is a Patriots receiver.
- 46:36Speaker 5: This is a little quick, jitterbuck guy that can get
- 46:38Speaker 5: open off the line. And you know it would seem
- 46:41Speaker 5: on paper that that's what Mac needs, you know, a
- 46:42Speaker 5: guy that he trusts, love to see matches continuing to
- 46:45Speaker 5: go to him in big spots. But there are some
- 46:47Speaker 5: bones here with this team, no matter what kind of
- 46:49Speaker 5: happens in this offseason, there are there are some guys
- 46:51Speaker 5: in gons Gonzales was outstanding. What do we see him?
- 46:54Speaker 11: Like?
- 46:54Speaker 5: Nine quarters? I don't know exactly what the number was,
- 46:56Speaker 5: but not enough and he really promising for a second season. Hope.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Okay, where's our DJ because I was gonna take a
- 47:03Speaker 3: break and pump up the music, but he's not here,
- 47:05Speaker 3: so I'll have to wait till he gets back.
- 47:06Speaker 5: Do you want me to sing? You can do it?
- 47:08Speaker 3: Yea some karaoke?
- 47:10Speaker 5: Well you know, hey, Paul, real quick. I just you know,
- 47:13Speaker 5: there was someone here and a Drew Bledsoe Jersey and
- 47:14Speaker 5: God bless that person. I think they might have left
- 47:16Speaker 5: with Paul's favorite player of all time. I thought Drew
- 47:18Speaker 5: made the trip for you, Paul, just to come and
- 47:20Speaker 5: support you. But I'm not sure where that fan went.
- 47:23Speaker 3: All right, Russell and Arkansas rights in, would you dial
- 47:27Speaker 3: up the pressure on this Colts offense and maybe rattle minshew? Also,
- 47:31Speaker 3: can we get paul A diet Miller and Fred a
- 47:34Speaker 3: different shirt?
- 47:36Speaker 8: And they really don't like your shirt?
- 47:37Speaker 5: They don't like it? No, no, no, they've been blitzing
- 47:40Speaker 5: a lot.
- 47:40Speaker 3: But I thought Byron Munich was a good team. Are
- 47:42Speaker 3: they not good? They're good?
- 47:45Speaker 5: Right, you're gonna ignite rivalries right within this very room.
- 47:48Speaker 3: They win it every year, right, yeah, so they're good.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Yeah, all right. You know, I'm trying to like what
- 47:53Speaker 5: I'd love to have someone explain, like, are you wearing
- 47:55Speaker 5: like a Jets jersey's bar? Are we and Jets Land? Like?
- 47:59Speaker 11: Like? What?
- 48:00Speaker 3: No, we're an eye track Land, right, Frankfurt eye Track right? Yeah, okay,
- 48:05Speaker 3: but they haven't given me a shirt, so I'm wearing
- 48:08Speaker 3: Bryn Munich shirt. Yeah all right. So as far as
- 48:15Speaker 3: dialing up the pressure, I mean, would you go all
- 48:17Speaker 3: out or would you?
- 48:18Speaker 6: You know, they've blitzed a ton yeah this season, almost
- 48:21Speaker 6: every game. They're they're very high in the blitz usage.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Yep, you know it's funny. Sorry, it hasn't been overully
- 48:27Speaker 5: effective lately any and even just looking at some of
- 48:30Speaker 5: the numbers on you know, next gen stats, it's like
- 48:32Speaker 5: it wasn't even like a correlation between Judon going down
- 48:35Speaker 5: and they just like we got to start blitzing. Like
- 48:37Speaker 5: they were kind of blitzing a lot even when they
- 48:39Speaker 5: had Jute on. So it's a little bit of a
- 48:40Speaker 5: I feel like a shift in aggressiveness from this defense.
- 48:43Speaker 5: You know, it's historically, especially when Matt Patricia was here,
- 48:46Speaker 5: it was a you know, sit back, wait, wait for
- 48:48Speaker 5: you to kind of make the mistakes and take away
- 48:50Speaker 5: the big plays. But they've been trying to get after quarterbacks.
- 48:52Speaker 5: And I mean it worked against Josh Allen. That was
- 48:54Speaker 5: the game where hey, they got a bunch of pressure
- 48:56Speaker 5: on him. They got right on, right in on him
- 48:59Speaker 5: one way or another. You got to get pressure and
- 49:01Speaker 5: try to force Gardner Minshew into mistakes.
- 49:03Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that the blitzing the last couple of
- 49:05Speaker 7: weeks hasn't worked because they haven't been able to tie
- 49:08Speaker 7: it together with the coverage. So they blitzed Gardner Minshew
- 49:12Speaker 7: for example, on that crazy cross body throw that he
- 49:15Speaker 7: made to Byron Pringle.
- 49:17Speaker 8: They blitzed, but they busted the coverage.
- 49:19Speaker 5: On the back end, Washington, GA.
- 49:20Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, and uh, I say Gardner Minshew, Yeah, Sam
- 49:24Speaker 7: Hollell made and they busted the coverage. So if you
- 49:28Speaker 7: don't tie it together, then it's not you know, if
- 49:30Speaker 7: you don't have pressure like on the Miles Bryant touchdout,
- 49:33Speaker 7: then I'm sure what the collar called in attacked poor
- 49:36Speaker 7: Miles when on that touchdown they didn't get any pressure.
- 49:40Speaker 8: They blitzed, but they didn't get it. No one got home.
- 49:42Speaker 7: And if you blitz and nobody gets home, well then
- 49:44Speaker 7: you're in trouble. Right, That's that's a recipe for disasters.
- 49:47Speaker 7: So they're gonna blitz, it's gonna have to be more
- 49:49Speaker 7: tied together from the back end and the front end
- 49:51Speaker 7: because you can't cover zero blitz and send in the
- 49:55Speaker 7: house and then not get home.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Like that's just asking for trouble.
- 50:00Speaker 3: All right, Let's see Boston Cream rights in. He wants
- 50:06Speaker 3: to know how big the schnitzel is.
- 50:10Speaker 5: I had some yesterday? Yeah, that was pretty pretty big. Okay,
- 50:14Speaker 5: we had we had some uh some worst Yeah, what
- 50:21Speaker 5: else did we do? And then me and Paul kind
- 50:23Speaker 5: of checking out, went to five guys. You guys went
- 50:24Speaker 5: to five guys, which is just hilarious. You give us up.
- 50:28Speaker 5: I know, I feel bad being in another country and
- 50:30Speaker 5: you want to try the food and everything. But I
- 50:31Speaker 5: was like, all right, I just need a little taste
- 50:33Speaker 5: of home. Let's pump me.
- 50:34Speaker 7: For I really want like a good brat, you know,
- 50:37Speaker 7: before we go home. So maybe these guys can help
- 50:39Speaker 7: me with some recommendations of where we should go.
- 50:42Speaker 3: Okay, there we go. Let's see Chris from Colorado rights
- 50:45Speaker 3: in as far as as fair and balanced arbiters of
- 50:49Speaker 3: our football sanity, have you guys made up your mind
- 50:52Speaker 3: as to what needs to happen next season? I'm looking
- 50:55Speaker 3: for your personal opinion. Is it a new coach, new quarterback,
- 50:58Speaker 3: full reboot? My guess would that Paul needs to see more.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Evan has a spreadsheet on which players should be drafted
- 51:04Speaker 3: and acquired. Micha will move his hatred for Tom Brady
- 51:08Speaker 3: and move it to Bill, and Fred will whistle through
- 51:10Speaker 3: the graveyard. Love everything you guys do. Thanks for putting
- 51:14Speaker 3: in the time, effort and jet lag to keep us entertained.
- 51:18Speaker 3: So that's nice.
- 51:19Speaker 5: I mean, yes, definitely, I have no doubt.
- 51:23Speaker 6: But if I'm being completely honest, I'd like to sort
- 51:25Speaker 6: of lean toward the reboot. I'd like to just try
- 51:28Speaker 6: to turn the page and start over.
- 51:31Speaker 5: I mean, it takes a lot of courage to say
- 51:33Speaker 5: that I'm the same. I mean, really, look, I just
- 51:36Speaker 5: think for me, I'm kind of sick of watching the
- 51:38Speaker 5: same games over and over for the last couple of years,
- 51:40Speaker 5: and that's been you know, they just can't seem to
- 51:42Speaker 5: break this rut where you know, even last year and
- 51:45Speaker 5: I don't know what the stats are, but we talk about, yeah,
- 51:47Speaker 5: they've won some games, but it's always against backup quarterbacks,
- 51:49Speaker 5: like you know won this week the win from Buffalo. Yeah,
- 51:52Speaker 5: the win from Buffalo that you know, that stood out
- 51:54Speaker 5: for a couple of weeks ago, and I think we
- 51:55Speaker 5: all felt really positive because, like you said, Paul, it
- 51:58Speaker 5: flipped the script. But you know, even if you want
- 51:59Speaker 5: to throw in that twenty twenty season with Cam Newton,
- 52:02Speaker 5: which I think we all kind of allow, is, look,
- 52:04Speaker 5: it was the COVID year. There were no fans, it
- 52:06Speaker 5: was Cam on coming in town. That's not true, but
- 52:12Speaker 5: you know, I just that's what's just getting repetitive is
- 52:15Speaker 5: watching the same kind of game on fold where they're up,
- 52:17Speaker 5: they're down seventeen three at halftime, and you know, and
- 52:19Speaker 5: then they you know, make a couple of scores in
- 52:21Speaker 5: the third quarter and they lose twenty four to thirteen.
- 52:23Speaker 5: But you know, it's and I don't know how you
- 52:25Speaker 5: can break that cycle. I've gotten to the point where.
- 52:29Speaker 6: I can't have them both back. Yeah, you know, if
- 52:33Speaker 6: Max stays, then I think Bill has to go. Now,
- 52:35Speaker 6: if you want to say I'm going to err on
- 52:37Speaker 6: the side of letting Bill go out on his terms
- 52:39Speaker 6: because of all he's done, I'd support that. I mean,
- 52:42Speaker 6: I think there's a good argument to be made.
- 52:45Speaker 5: Why are you pulling the plug on the greatest coaches
- 52:47Speaker 5: ever done it?
- 52:48Speaker 6: So if that happens, I think you have to change
- 52:51Speaker 6: the quarterback because I don't think those two guys work together.
- 52:55Speaker 6: And I haven't seen any evidence of that the last
- 52:57Speaker 6: two years. You know, as a rookie, there was some
- 53:00Speaker 6: i'mis there with Josh McDaniels running the show and again,
- 53:03Speaker 6: like Mike said, beating up on some banged up backup
- 53:06Speaker 6: quarterback led teams. And since then we haven't seen any progress.
- 53:09Speaker 6: I don't like the way it looks, for lack of
- 53:12Speaker 6: a better term, the way you know, Bill doesn't often
- 53:15Speaker 6: call mac Jones, the quarterback and my star, you know,
- 53:18Speaker 6: my starter when he's asked about it. So I don't
- 53:20Speaker 6: think it's a great relationship from afar, and I feel
- 53:24Speaker 6: like if you're going to move forward with one of them,
- 53:26Speaker 6: the other one has to go.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:28Speaker 7: I just look at it from like a big picture
- 53:29Speaker 7: standpoint too, of like this organizationally, they need to decide
- 53:34Speaker 7: that scoring points in offense is the most important thing
- 53:38Speaker 7: for this team, and that means changing the quarterback. That
- 53:41Speaker 7: that means changing the quarterback, that means changing the head
- 53:43Speaker 7: coach too.
- 53:44Speaker 5: The then so be it.
- 53:45Speaker 8: But until they go out.
- 53:47Speaker 7: And they start really throwing some real resources at the
- 53:50Speaker 7: offensive side of the ball, you know, pay guy's top
- 53:53Speaker 7: of the market money, first round picks on skill, talent
- 53:56Speaker 7: or tackles or whatever.
- 53:58Speaker 8: You know, it's all go well and good.
- 53:59Speaker 7: That Bill had his defense draft last year, but they
- 54:02Speaker 7: had a pretty good defense in twenty twenty two, and
- 54:04Speaker 7: he goes out and uses his top three draft picks
- 54:07Speaker 7: on defense, and then in free agency he paid everybody
- 54:10Speaker 7: on defense to come back and play, you know for
- 54:13Speaker 7: them this year, and the offense got what you know, juju,
- 54:18Speaker 7: you know, Mikeasicki and thankfully, thankfully they found Pop Douglas
- 54:23Speaker 7: in the sixth round and they got one little thing
- 54:25Speaker 7: out of it. But really, you look at last offseason
- 54:28Speaker 7: for the offensive side of the ball, and it was
- 54:29Speaker 7: a complete disaster.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Honestly, let's go to the phones. A sticket hutline will
- 54:34Speaker 3: go to Ernie in Tennessee. What's up, Ernie?
- 54:39Speaker 12: Yeah, I listened to you guys. Bill. I'm in agreement
- 54:44Speaker 12: with not firing him during the season. I think the
- 54:50Speaker 12: national media has him, you know, out if they don't
- 54:54Speaker 12: win the game. But I don't see that. I just
- 54:56Speaker 12: think he just it was kind of hard on the media,
- 55:01Speaker 12: and they're just trying to get back at them.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Okay, so you're not you're not for firing them during
- 55:08Speaker 3: the season, but what do you want to do after
- 55:10Speaker 3: the season.
- 55:12Speaker 12: I think the call is right, just you know, give
- 55:14Speaker 12: them an option, you know, coach or and hire a
- 55:18Speaker 12: GM and and go that way.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Thanks, Ernie, appreciate the call.
- 55:23Speaker 5: I figure it's not going to happen.
- 55:25Speaker 8: I don't I don't like, do you. How do you
- 55:27Speaker 8: guys feel about that?
- 55:29Speaker 5: That setup? I big it's dysfunctional.
- 55:31Speaker 7: I also just feel we have to look at the
- 55:34Speaker 7: product on the field at some point and say, are
- 55:37Speaker 7: they even being coached well at this point? Like that
- 55:39Speaker 7: the game against the Commanders. They didn't lose that game
- 55:42Speaker 7: because they didn't have enough talent to win the game.
- 55:44Speaker 7: They lost that game because special teams had four penalties
- 55:47Speaker 7: in the last three drives of the game.
- 55:49Speaker 8: The defense is giving up six plays of.
- 55:51Speaker 7: Twenty plus yards because they're busting coverages all over the place,
- 55:54Speaker 7: like they those are the Bills two areas, special teams
- 55:57Speaker 7: and defense, and they're not even buttoned up in those areas.
- 56:00Speaker 8: So I just don't even.
- 56:01Speaker 7: Know if that's enough is to just take away GM,
- 56:04Speaker 7: do you. I think everybody just thinks, like, oh, let's
- 56:06Speaker 7: get a GM in here, that that drafts all this
- 56:08Speaker 7: amazing talent, Like it's that easy and it's just going
- 56:10Speaker 7: to fix all these problems.
- 56:12Speaker 5: It's never gonna fly. It's never gonna fly with Bill,
- 56:14Speaker 5: you know.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Yep, Mike, Mike uh Dominique is in New York. What's up, Dominique?
- 56:22Speaker 13: Hey, how y'all doing all right? Good? Hope you're enjoying Germany.
- 56:26Speaker 13: Thanks for all that you do. It's kind of going
- 56:29Speaker 13: back to the point with with Bill belichicking New you
- 56:32Speaker 13: know position or what it looks like after the seed
- 56:33Speaker 13: and I'm not kind of quite agree. I don't know
- 56:36Speaker 13: how that looks. I mean, him at a GM, I
- 56:38Speaker 13: don't know if we really want that. Looking at the
- 56:40Speaker 13: picks that he's made, the signs that he you know,
- 56:42Speaker 13: had influence over, I don't know if that works when coaching.
- 56:45Speaker 13: You know, are you really going to have someone that's
- 56:47Speaker 13: going to come in uh in quotas support him? And
- 56:50Speaker 13: what do you allow that to happen? So it's kind
- 56:52Speaker 13: of a no man plan what Bill's going to be
- 56:55Speaker 13: at this point. You know, the season is what it did,
- 56:57Speaker 13: aren't but you don't you know, can be not really
- 57:00Speaker 13: going to make much.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Of a different.
- 57:01Speaker 13: I think we've seen what we've seen and we can
- 57:04Speaker 13: just hope for a high draft pick. But I would add,
- 57:08Speaker 13: you know, putting yourself in the shoes as a GM
- 57:10Speaker 13: and assuming that you know you aren't getting Capables or
- 57:16Speaker 13: Drake May, who would you start your franchise with next year?
- 57:19Speaker 13: What coaching change would you make? And who would you
- 57:21Speaker 13: actually maybe you know, assuming buildings identify as a coach
- 57:24Speaker 13: and I'll take that off one.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Okay, thanks Domini. So head coaching names who are we
- 57:31Speaker 3: talking about.
- 57:33Speaker 5: Mao.
- 57:35Speaker 3: He's in the house. But but that goes counter to
- 57:37Speaker 3: what you're saying with the offense.
- 57:39Speaker 5: I don't want that. Yeah, I.
- 57:42Speaker 8: Liked Mayo a lot for two reasons.
- 57:44Speaker 7: One, I think defensively, they still have a really good
- 57:47Speaker 7: system and that keeps that side of the ball in
- 57:50Speaker 7: place where you have a defense that has been successful,
- 57:54Speaker 7: and can you can keep that together, keep building with
- 57:57Speaker 7: what they've done on that side of the ball, because
- 57:59Speaker 7: I and maybe you know, I think Paul and I
- 58:01Speaker 7: might disagree with that on this a little bit, but
- 58:03Speaker 7: I don't think the defense has.
- 58:04Speaker 8: Been the problem, like, oh no, for for three years.
- 58:07Speaker 7: Are they as good as maybe they could be or
- 58:10Speaker 7: you know whatever, Maybe not. But I liked Odd Mayol
- 58:13Speaker 7: a lot. I think that, you know, some of the
- 58:14Speaker 7: things that you hear talk about Mayo. Two is that
- 58:17Speaker 7: he is pretty into some of like the new way
- 58:22Speaker 7: of thinking about building a football team and you know,
- 58:25Speaker 7: analytically and things like that. And although he wouldn't be
- 58:28Speaker 7: the offensive coach necessarily to tie it all together, ideally,
- 58:33Speaker 7: I think you would have somebody that would prioritize offense
- 58:37Speaker 7: and see the importance of offense in today's game because
- 58:41Speaker 7: I think he sees it a little bit differently in
- 58:42Speaker 7: that respect, and Bill.
- 58:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean you could sell me on it if
- 58:45Speaker 6: you can give him a strong young mind offensively, you know,
- 58:49Speaker 6: a strong offensive coordinator to come in and sort of
- 58:53Speaker 6: change the way they do it. Because I get back
- 58:54Speaker 6: to what Mike and Evan were talking about earlier in
- 58:57Speaker 6: the show about they need to find the importance of
- 59:00Speaker 6: scoring points and prioritizing scoring to get I think to
- 59:05Speaker 6: where the league is nowadays, and I think that you know,
- 59:09Speaker 6: most games are won. You know, the good teams are
- 59:11Speaker 6: gonna win by getting up up with the thirty points.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And you know, you look at the.
- 59:15Speaker 6: Super Bowl between two really good teams and really balanced teams,
- 59:20Speaker 6: but it becomes a shootout because that's what the talents
- 59:25Speaker 6: is gonna lend itself to. Once you get into those spots,
- 59:27Speaker 6: and the talent's gonna win out and you if you
- 59:29Speaker 6: can't win that way, you're gonna be held short.
- 59:32Speaker 5: So I worry.
- 59:33Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know exactly, I don't have the name,
- 59:35Speaker 6: I don't have a rolodex of all. You just describe
- 59:39Speaker 6: Ben Jonson. Well, Ben Johnson's the guy I want. But
- 59:41Speaker 6: I understand that it might not be available. He might
- 59:43Speaker 6: not just you know, you can't just wave a magic
- 59:45Speaker 6: wand and get whatever. The guy Ben Johnson's the guy
- 59:47Speaker 6: that I've had my eye on, yeap.
- 59:49Speaker 5: A little bit.
- 59:50Speaker 6: You know, I could be sold on Eric b Enemy,
- 59:52Speaker 6: you know, like, I don't think that's a tremendously talented
- 59:56Speaker 6: roster that Washington has, and they found a way to
- 59:59Speaker 6: be pretty competitive offensively every week first year, you know,
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: running the show there with that group of players, I could.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Be That's what I want, is an offensive guy. Okay,
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: I'm going to try to talk here in Mike. Yeah,
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: I don't think I don't think.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Of the shof Mark and elm. Street said he's heading
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: to major dental surgery, but he's not going to take
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: his headphones off. Oh he says. He says he's fifty five.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Bill's the best I've ever seen, but he's seventy two
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: and tired of the non football stuff and it's starting
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: to show.
- 1:00:34Speaker 11: So.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: And he gives one example of Myers, Jacoby Myers getting
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: rid of Jacoby Myers.
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I understand what he's talking about. He
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: felt like, I think he's ascribing that whole theory that
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: Jacoby Myers was one of those guys that sort of
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: spoke out against the coaches last year in defensive Mac.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: I thought what Jacoby Myers did that night was what
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: a leader does and what a good teammate does. I
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: don't like the way that whole quarterback situation against Chicago unfolded,
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: with Mac Jones clearly not one hundred percent healthy, not
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: playing well, get taken out of the game, the crowds reacting,
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: the crowd's rooting for Zappi, and I think Jacoby Myers
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: felt like that was not fair to Mac Jones, and
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: he said so, And a lot of people believe that
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: that's the main reason why Jacoby Myers is now with
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: the Raiders.
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: And if that's.
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: True, Again, we have a lot of speculation on some
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: of these things, but if that's true, I would agree
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: that's the kind of stuff that maybe used to work
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: twenty years ago, but it's a little harder when you
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: don't have a quarterback that's going to make it all
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: all right.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: We're going to take a break, good time for everybody
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: to hydrate. When we come back for Yeah, we'll have
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: more calls, more emails. Maybe we'll even take some questions
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: from the crowd right here on Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:04:02Speaker 8: Yeah, Paul, I'm so excited about that.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: That's what I want to do.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: You guys, You guys wouldn't get it on each other's.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: That wouldn't happen.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: And especially.
- 1:04:14Speaker 16: Imagine if we were together all the time. I told you,
- 1:04:16Speaker 16: I told you to take a right turn. No, I
- 1:04:18Speaker 16: know where I'm going. Let me alone.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: I know where I'm going to do. I don't stop
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: and ask for directions. I don't need directions.
- 1:04:22Speaker 14: And then Eric would be in the back like ironing
- 1:04:24Speaker 14: his his shirt to making sure, they're perfectly folded increased.
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: That's the show. That's the Eric's like we had an agreement.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Number two's are being done at McDonald's.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Not in the r V.
- 1:04:36Speaker 16: Oh there's McDonald's pull over like they always like McDonald's.
- 1:04:42Speaker 16: My god, we're in Tennessee and they know Fred here
- 1:04:44Speaker 16: at this McDonald's. Friend, you don't need to go to
- 1:04:46Speaker 16: McDonald's and go to the bathroom. We have one on
- 1:04:48Speaker 16: the r V.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:04:57Speaker 11: No are you one?
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: Do you hear Memara?
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: Don Okay, We're ready to go. Now, all right, welcome
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: back to Patriots on Filter and eight five to five.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: PATS five hundred is the A Sticket hotline. Web radio
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: at Patriots dot com is the email address, and we're welcome.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Welcoming Tamara Brown to the set right now. Tamoraw is
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: a part of our show back home. Tamara is, uh,
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: explain what you do with the Patriots.
- 1:05:25Speaker 11: I do a lot. I can't hear myself, but hopefully
- 1:05:27Speaker 11: you guys can hear me.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: We can hear.
- 1:05:29Speaker 8: I'm a reporter, a.
- 1:05:30Speaker 11: Content producer, help with social media. I do a little
- 1:05:34Speaker 11: bit of everything. Others is this whatever my team needs.
- 1:05:36Speaker 11: I'm happy to help with, but I've done a lot
- 1:05:39Speaker 11: writing everything. Yeah, okay, Wow, put me on the spot.
- 1:05:48Speaker 11: So I think, first of all, I agree with not
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: firing Bill Belichick mid season. I think that with his
- 1:05:54Speaker 11: resume speaks for itself, he's done great things for this program,
- 1:05:57Speaker 11: and I think that when it comes to what to
- 1:06:00Speaker 11: do with him for next year, I agree that there
- 1:06:02Speaker 11: needs to be a clean slate freshead coach, A new
- 1:06:04Speaker 11: quarterback would be great, and getting him some weapons. I
- 1:06:07Speaker 11: think that that's the best way to move forward. I
- 1:06:08Speaker 11: think whether it's Mac Jones going to a new program
- 1:06:12Speaker 11: or not, I don't think that he has room here
- 1:06:14Speaker 11: on this team. I think he's too broken honestly right now.
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: I think he deserves a fresh start, like Trey Lance.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: Okay, and while you've been here in Germany, what have
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: you been doing? I see, if you don't already, you
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: need to follow all the Patriots social media accounts Instagram, x, Facebook, TikTok.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: And I know you've been all over I know you've
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: been all over it over the last couple of days.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: What have you been doing?
- 1:06:39Speaker 11: So, Fred, You're actually gonna laugh? So listening to that
- 1:06:42Speaker 11: intro coming in from break where they're talking about McDonald's.
- 1:06:45Speaker 11: Alex and I and Matisse went to McDonald's because we're like,
- 1:06:48Speaker 11: we have to see what McDonald's is like in Germany.
- 1:06:51Speaker 11: And as we're coming out, Jason mccordy, former Patriot, he
- 1:06:55Speaker 11: sees us and he's like, are you kidding me? You
- 1:06:56Speaker 11: guys went to McDonald's during Germany.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: I don't blame him.
- 1:06:59Speaker 11: But the menu it was different. There were curly fries
- 1:07:01Speaker 11: at McDonald's. Can you believe it? Okay, curly fries. They
- 1:07:04Speaker 11: had a whole different menu. So we went to McDonald's.
- 1:07:07Speaker 11: We have been around town. We went to It starts
- 1:07:11Speaker 11: with an R. Can you pronounce it?
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: No? No, I can't.
- 1:07:14Speaker 11: I don't know, like Yanni pronounced it multiple times. But
- 1:07:17Speaker 11: it was the rombra I think. Am I saying it right?
- 1:07:20Speaker 11: I can't remember. But it was a beautiful square. We
- 1:07:21Speaker 11: got a lot of great pictures. We shot Patriots all
- 1:07:23Speaker 11: access there. It's been great going around town, the galleria,
- 1:07:26Speaker 11: all the shopping. We went around there as well. So
- 1:07:29Speaker 11: we've been getting our rounds, getting our steps in.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Okay, five times.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: Menu was exactly the same.
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: For what it's worth, Did.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: It taste the same, Yeah, pretty much all right again
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: eight five five pats five hundred. It's the Ace takeing
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: a hotline. Tomorrow's gonna stick with us here, so if
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: you have any particular questions for her, because she's just
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: joining us. Now let's get back to the phones. We'll
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: go to Patty in Agawam.
- 1:07:57Speaker 17: Guten Morgen myne Dutchen Bruder and schwesterns on prost.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Are you Russian or German? I don't know.
- 1:08:08Speaker 17: I was German.
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: Anyway.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: No one, by the way, Patty hit, no one's here
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: is laughing, not one person.
- 1:08:17Speaker 17: I was just born into my German brothers and sisters.
- 1:08:20Speaker 17: And hello to you guys and cheers. My question for
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: you guys for the panel today is, with uh this
- 1:08:29Speaker 17: depleted wide receiver course, can we make plays in the
- 1:08:32Speaker 17: passing game against defense.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Against the Okay, thanks for the call.
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: I think it's a I mean, a good question because
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: I talked Aboutkenny Moore earlier and I mentioned Pop Douglas too,
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: So those are two guys that you know very well
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: growing going up against each other. So you know it
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: might come down to I hate to say it, but
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: Juju Smith Schuster, you know you gave this guy a
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: three year deal, You've got injuries, it's time to step up.
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: You know, this team really badly needs to win. Show
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: us why they they went out and got him in,
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: you know, especially coming off that fourth down play. Uh,
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: you know where he had to drop. I guess we
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: can call it a drop. It's just it's it hasn't
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: been good enough with Juju. He's been a frustrating player
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: this year and I think you know you went out
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: and side him. Let's let's see why. DeVante Parker, I know,
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: has been at practice. He's still doing with concussion issues.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: So they've got a lot of questions and we obviously
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: go Bourne is out.
- 1:09:16Speaker 11: I'm gonna go with Pop Douglas. I think his workload
- 1:09:18Speaker 11: has increased over the weeks, whether it be through injuries
- 1:09:20Speaker 11: or whether it being he's redeemed himself. I think from
- 1:09:23Speaker 11: that from that fumble earlier on in the season. I
- 1:09:25Speaker 11: think he's a big playmaker. He's super dynamic, and I
- 1:09:28Speaker 11: think that the Colts are going to be looking for
- 1:09:29Speaker 11: this Patriots offense to be predictable. I think he is
- 1:09:32Speaker 11: that one person that you can't always predict what's gonna
- 1:09:34Speaker 11: happen because he has those moves that and he's able
- 1:09:36Speaker 11: to get open and and get a few more yards
- 1:09:38Speaker 11: in the place. So I'm thinking it's gonna be a
- 1:09:40Speaker 11: big one for him.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: We got to get more out of Micah SICKI. Yes,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: I mean, I know he had the catch, you know
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: that won that one game. But we've got to get
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: more out of him.
- 1:09:49Speaker 11: You know, So what about or what about Pharaoh Brown?
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Every time he makes with Pharaol Brown, I feel anything
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: that we get out of him is a bonus. So
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: I have no complaints with Pharrell Brown, but I think
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Mike is SICKI and you know, Hunter Henry's been okay,
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: but you know, the tight end position in general, I
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: think we need to get a little bit more production
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: out of the tight ends.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: Well that was you know, one of the plays that
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: was highlighted, you know, on the internet this week was
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Mikeah SICKI wide open up the seam so absolutely, And
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: I mentioned Juju and him. I mean, these are two
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: big pieces that you brought in. I think we were
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: all kind of just expecting though Bill O'Brien was the
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: key piece, you know, that that was the one that
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: was going to take all this, all these ingredients and
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: put it together and make a nice meal. But you
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: know it's that's I agree. I mean Bill called him.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: You know, he's basically like our third or fourth wide
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: receiver right now, so he's got to be more productive.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: Jalen Riger he's been playing a bunch. He hasn't been
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: producted either, So I don't really care who it is.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: They just got to find a way to both.
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: The I like Tamara's idea of Douglas because of the
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: defense they're playing, you know, with the you know, the
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: crossing routes and you know, we talked about Stevenson before
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: the break. I like those kinds of options underneath getting
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: the zone defense's crossing. See if you can get some
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: some mismatches, some natural rub routes. Might We don't like
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: to call him picks, Mike, you're the on me. We
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: don't like to call them picks. We call them rub routes,
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: rub route.
- 1:11:03Speaker 11: And I think Paul has brought this up, I think
- 1:11:05Speaker 11: every single week, and it was his key to the
- 1:11:07Speaker 11: game multiple weeks. Run the dang ball.
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: I never right though.
- 1:11:11Speaker 11: If the Patriots can get back to their bread and
- 1:11:12Speaker 11: butter of running the football, I think that could open
- 1:11:14Speaker 11: up a lot of things for the wide receivers and
- 1:11:16Speaker 11: Titans as well. Well.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: They had that one run last week. We need one one,
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: I know, I know, but sixty four yard run. That
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: was nice to see.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: Well, and they's also been breaking some tackles too, which
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: I think is just a sign of the old Remandre.
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: You know, last year the offense was in similar disarray,
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: but he was able to get you yards. He'd get
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: hit in the backfield, he'd spin out of it, you know,
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: somehow he'd get you four or five yards. Those players
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: haven't really been there this year, but I think the
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: last couple of weeks they have been. They started. You know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: you're starting to see remondre get a little loose shake,
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: shake some tackles and hopefully and the big run last week.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: I'd love to see more of them.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: Can we see? This is how captivating we are right here?
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Number ten in the last row.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: Yeah, twelve, I was probably a twelve.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: I was told different, No math.
- 1:12:00Speaker 11: Maybe it's just jet lag, you know, Patriots fans coming
- 1:12:02Speaker 11: over taking the red out.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: I feel the pain. But during the break I was
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: coming in, a fans stopped me and he said, Matt
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: Jones can do this. We just got to get him
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: some help. We've got to get him, you know, an
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: old line that can block, and we've got to get
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: him one or two wide receivers. And he was pointing out,
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: you know, Josh Allen when he guts Stefon Diggs and Burrow,
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: you know with his receivers and Tua with his receivers.
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: You know, these guys have like two receivers that they
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: can go to. And he feels that Mac doesn't even
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: really have one. And he thinks that given the pieces,
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: MATC could turn this thing around.
- 1:12:38Speaker 11: But I feel like my one thing with that is
- 1:12:39Speaker 11: I feel like a lot of offensive lines around the
- 1:12:42Speaker 11: league are pretty bad. I mean, if you look at
- 1:12:43Speaker 11: Joe Burrow, he made it all the way to a
- 1:12:44Speaker 11: Super Bowl with a bad offensive line. So I think
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: it's more of the tools in the tool belt. Like
- 1:12:48Speaker 11: I think when you look at Joe Burrow and Josh Allen,
- 1:12:50Speaker 11: they have the ability to have a big arm, and
- 1:12:52Speaker 11: also they have the legs as well, yeah, the athleticism.
- 1:12:55Speaker 11: So I think that it's a little bit of both
- 1:12:57Speaker 11: his tools and the tool belt his weapons. There's a
- 1:13:00Speaker 11: lot of things to point the finger at. I'm not
- 1:13:01Speaker 11: really sure how much it would change with his weapons.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: Yeah, like I said, just make the plays that are there,
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: you know, like that's a starting point. Like, let's not
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: come out of a game with you know, twenty seven
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: different amateur film breakdowns of look at this guy, look
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: at this guy, you know, get get the right right
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: but no.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Tomorrow you mentioned you said the word broken, you know,
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: like at you know, is it beyond repair? And sometimes
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: you know, we've seen it with other quarterbacks in the
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: history of the NFL that they just get off to
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: the wrong foot in their career and they're on a
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: bad team and they get beat up, you know, and
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: they just never recover. Yeah, they never you know, achieve
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: the potential that people thought they had coming out of
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: college because of the start that they had. Now you
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: could also argue, well, they probably weren't going to be
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: that good anyway. But I think you're in that camp.
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: Well, it's it's tough to Yeah, it's tough to make
- 1:13:50Speaker 6: that determination, but you're right.
- 1:13:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I just don't know any other quarterbacks that have
- 1:13:54Speaker 11: been dealt the hand that he had in terms of
- 1:13:56Speaker 11: like the defensive coordinator being as an offensive coordinator, you know, right, well,
- 1:14:00Speaker 11: having multiple coordinators.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: Kind of unprecedented.
- 1:14:02Speaker 11: Yeah, and then just you know, being on a team
- 1:14:05Speaker 11: that's in the middle of a rebuilding stage already with
- 1:14:07Speaker 11: a lack of pieces all around him. So I think
- 1:14:09Speaker 11: that just the hand he was dealt was tough. But
- 1:14:11Speaker 11: I'm looking forward to seeing if maybe he can overcome it.
- 1:14:13Speaker 11: Obvious it's been a couple of years now, but we'll see.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just like a philosophical question of you know,
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: how do you get a quarterback back on track? You know,
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: and I think, you know, Mac, we can talk about
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: Max rookie year and you know what it was, what
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: it wasn't, But I think that he was at least
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: in rhythm with the offense and he knew what he
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: was doing, and you know, how do you get him
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: back to that point? Because a lot of these plays
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: you're watching over the last few weeks, it doesn't look
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: like a quarterback who's you know, in rhythm with the offense.
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: And you know, I don't know, you guys have been
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: watching a lot more football than I have. You know,
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: a long term who are those quarterbacks? Does it require
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: having to go to a different team and you know,
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: be reset with a new offense and kind of just
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: a clean slate because I felt like he was kind
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: of getting that this year.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: I do think, you know, all of those things are
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: case by case basis, and you could make arguments.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: And you look at a guy like Gino Smith.
- 1:14:57Speaker 6: H who you know, never really sort of pan out
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: with the Jets and you know, bounced around a little bit.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Then he goes to Seattle, he's the backup quarterback for
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: a while, and then Russell Wilson leazy gets a chance
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: and he was competent, he played, he played reasonably well,
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: led the team to the playoffs, and you know, it
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: looks like, you know, there was some talent there all along.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: You know, could that happen with mac Jones?
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: Sure?
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: I mean, how do you know unless you know it
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: all unfolds and he gets that opportunity. But I kind
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: of looked at it and I think all of the
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: excuses for mac Jones are valid.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: You know, the offensive line hasn't played.
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: Great, they haven't been able to run the ball, they
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: haven't had the you know, the star playmakers and receivers,
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: and I think all of that can be true, and
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: Mac Jones hasn't played well, not handled all of those
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: things well. And for me, it's it's a lot less.
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: I know a lot of people fixate on the skill set,
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: and I do too. I'm not saying that I don't,
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: but like the arm strength and all that is relevant.
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: But to me, the bigger thing is I want to
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: see him.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: Sort of take the offense as his own and become
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: a leader and sort of embrace the coaching that he's
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: getting instead of sort of worrying about what he's not getting. Yeah,
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: I feel like there hasn't been enough, you know.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: And I hate to say it, Like right now, I
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: just don't see the signs that if he had those
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: things he could do something with them, you know, right,
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: he'd be better.
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: But I don't know if he'd be the guy that
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: you would.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: But if that was the case, you'd be seeing signs
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: of it now, like oh wow, he's really making you know,
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: we call it uh chicken salad out of chicken shit, right,
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Like I can do that.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: I mean Europe we're a little bit looser with regulation.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: You know, like he would be doing things that would say, okay,
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: he's doing things without that, man, if we just gave
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: him that. But I'm not seeing those signs, and that's
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: that's what it's frustrating me when it comes to math Fred.
- 1:16:49Speaker 11: What was different about the Bills game. I feel like
- 1:16:51Speaker 11: we saw a different map.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Just that last drive. I mean, I think it was
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: you know, it's a quick question. It's a handful of plays,
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: and you know, I don't think it was like, can
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: I be really honest, they got forty yards on the screen. Yeah,
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: that's what Paul does the show like that.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: But to be fair, okay, so that got them, you know,
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: to like the thirty yard line. They still had to
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: get it in the To.
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: Me, the hard part was done because now that all
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: the pressure is off, you're in field goal range and
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: now you're you're just gonna squeeze it down there. They
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: got a couple of penalty threw a good ball to Hunter.
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Henry Listen, I've said this many times. I think he's
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: good enough to his skill set is good enough to
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: win games. I don't know if you can win it
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: all with him, but he's he should be better than this.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: He's not a two and seven quarterback in terms of
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: his skills. It should be better than that. But I
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: also look at the Bills game, and we were all
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: in agreement.
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: He was great.
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: I thought he played great in the fourth quarter the
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: two drives, not just the one two touchdown drives. But
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: at this point after three years, that to me is
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: a one off.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: Yeah, that was the exception, not the rule.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: And you know the other thing that kind of just
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: threw everybody kind of for a loop this year was
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: you looked at the season, said, okay, the floor. We
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: have a thing we call the floor in the ceiling.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: The floor is the worst you can be, and the
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: ceiling is as good as you can be. And we said,
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: you know, probably the floor is seven or eight losses,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: you know, because you got the greatest coach in history,
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: and he'll keep you from going below that below that floor.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: And here we are at two and seven.
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: And still in play.
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: Fraid well, yeah it is, I have to admit. But
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: that's something that surprised us. We figured that just having
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Bill Belichick would would win us some games, and right
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: now that's not even happening. So Ian from the UK
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: rights in at web rady wet Patriots dot com and
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: he says, why does Bill want to beat Shula's win record?
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Apart from he might have a grudge against him, would
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: you rather have six rings in nine overall and not
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: get those total wins, or beat Shula and have the
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: total wins and only two rings. Bill will be remembered
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: for the rings, not the wins. I agree with that.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: I mean, well, I.
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: Think it wasn't It wasn't that Teddy Bruski's passionate speech on.
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: ESPN a few weeks ago.
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: Like I, no one really doubts that he's a great coach,
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: and that you know, a lot of people think he's
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: far better than Don Shula Evil Wars was so I
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: would agree with that sentiment. But obviously, if you have
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: a chance and you're that close to win more games
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: as a coach than anybody else ever did, I can
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: understand why that means a lot to him.
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: So close, you come so far, you can see why
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: he wants to finish it. But I also think that
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: it's just something that's kind of hung over this whole
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: argument about what to do with Bill, and you know,
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: but the record, the record would hope that factor right,
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: like you shouldn't. It shouldn't factor in. You know, it's
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: it's great for Bill, how much does it really mean
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: for the fans? I don't know.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: All right, you guys want to ask some questions. Anybody
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: have questions. One person nodding.
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: All right, everybody else nodding off.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: Should we open it up to people asking questions? Do
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: you want to do that? Okay?
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: Number ten?
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: What's your questions? I think it's twelve, Okay, all right.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: I'm just saying we have a question in the front row.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: When is he going to play? Okay?
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: So that's it this weekend. Maybe, but maybe not. I
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: don't know. It's a good question. I mean, it's a
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: marriage I've in. But yeah, it's a great question.
- 1:20:22Speaker 6: So when we do the show regularly, Fred said it
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: at the beginning of the show, and we do it
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: regularly a lot of times, we talk pretty open and
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: we just kind of throw stuff around and not necessarily
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: stuff that we know, but we kind of look at
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: the reports this week about J. C. Jackson and Jack
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: Jones not getting back to the hotel in time before
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: the Washington game, and I go back to last Friday
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: when Bill Belichick told us in his press conference that
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: that was the best week of practice that Kaishawn Booty had.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: Two days later, he's inactive. A couple of guys were late.
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: Might not anybody know that Kayshan Booty was too. I
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: don't know, it just didn't make any sense that they
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: were so high on his week of practice. They was
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: short at wide receiver without Kendrick Bourne in Devonte Parker.
- 1:21:06Speaker 6: All signs seemed to point toward Booty's gonna play this week,
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: and then he didn't. So I don't know if it
- 1:21:11Speaker 6: was just because they felt like the roster needed more
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: help somewhere else, or if it was something else.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, not every people can change, but
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: coming out of college, Booty had some red flags, right,
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, you know that's why he was drafted solo.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: You didn't want to let anybody get by you.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: I mean, he was one of the top recruits that
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: he was one of the top recruits in the country
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: coming out of high school, and people thought that he was,
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: you know, maybe second round talent. I think some.
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: People a year after he had that game against I
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: think it was all miss as a freshman, I think
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: people thought he might be a first round pick.
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: Right, So his off field behavior made him available later
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: in the draft, and that could be something that's rearing
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: its head. Now, let's let's hope not Let's hope he
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: understands that he could have a very good future in
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: the NFL and gets it to get But I go
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: back to what I said when we started. Who are
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: the people in the locker room policing these guys? Who
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: are you know, who's taking Keisha on Booty by the
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: helmet and saying, hey, dude, you know, smart en up,
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: you know, get with the program. You could be a
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: great player in this league, but you gotta do it
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: the right way. I don't know, I don't know the
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: answer to that, but somebody's got to step up, right.
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I would say two. Like, you know,
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: we watch all a training camp, so we brought live
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: broadcaster and training camp. We're up on the side of
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: the stadium. We get the L twenty two view. Evan
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: loves it. Can't get enough of the side of the
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: stadium view.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: He's watching it right now on his phone.
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: Booty didn't do a lot this summer. You know, he
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: had a good third game in the preseason and he
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: had that touchdown run and it was was wow. Great.
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: But for all of us who watched every single one
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: of those training camp practices and all the joint practices too,
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: he's okay, you know, So it's like and like, look,
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: I get it. Worth the point now where it's like,
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: here's a rookie that hasn't played since Week one, get
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: him in there, let's see what we got. I think
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: we can all agree on that, but it's just, you know,
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: what is the expectation level of what this player acts?
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: And by comparison, we did see to Mario Douglas every
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: day in training camp. He was making plays every single day,
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: and now he has a little bit of a role.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: And you know, I agree with Mike. There were spots
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: here and there where you'd see Booty make a catch
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: or you know the preseason game that you're talking about
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: good slant catch and run after the catch. There's talent there, obviously,
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: but we didn't see it as consistently with him as.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: We did with Douglas.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: And you know, I think that's shown up and one
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: thing we can all agree on. You know, back home,
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: there's a narrative that he's not playing because he didn't
- 1:23:38Speaker 6: get his foot inbounds on that last fourth down play
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: in the opener against That's not why you know, Bill
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: Belichick doesn't have a guy in his doghouse because he
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: couldn't get two feet inbounds on one particular play in
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: his first game of his career. So now maybe there's more,
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: there's more involved than just that.
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: But don't don't don't take shots.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: Okay, all right, any any other question question, but third
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: row and.
- 1:24:18Speaker 10: The team, the people, so.
- 1:24:29Speaker 18: So many like, yeah, brain drain, yep, yeah, that's a
- 1:24:42Speaker 18: good point.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: And Mike mentioned it. We call it brain drain. You know,
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: the guys that the good coaches, they get good and
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: then the other teams take them and give them promotions
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: and they you know, let's let's go down the list.
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: They they lost Dante, Ernie Adams retired. He was than
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: a coach, but he was an advisor.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: Nick Casario left, he was a GM. He wasn't really
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: the GM for the Pages, but he went to become
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: a GM with another Daniels Josh McDaniels left, who was
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: you know, So that's that's a valid question, like how
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: how much can you lose and still keep up the
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: quality of the people around you?
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I tell you mentioned the offensive line too. I
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: mean the last four years, I think they've had four
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: different combinations. I mean, you know, this year you bring
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: in Adrian Clem to hopefully settle things down. But I mean,
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: since Dante has left. It's been kind of a rotating
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: you know, whatever you wanna call it, circle of you know,
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: just coaches coming in, different techniques, different styles. And last
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: year with Maddy p trying to do the offensive line
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: and the offensive coordinating, which again to go back to
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: training camp. When we're watching it, he's like coordinating offense
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: and he's got to run to the offensive line and
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: he's coming back. You know, you could just tell from
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: that like it, look, this doesn't look like it's gonna work,
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: you know, early on from our perspective.
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: So we could talk about all those big names, but
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: then there are guys like Matt Patricia that he's talking about.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: Brian Flores was sort of the de facto defensive coordinator
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: and that they had a lot of success with and
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: you know, he left to take a job. So over
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: the last five to seven years, they've lost a lot
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: of coaches off the staff. And you brought up bringing
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: up the offensive line, you know, Carmen Brasil, Like, it's
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: not just Dante Scarneki who's been gone a while now,
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: but it's even the guys that replaced the guys are
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: now going. So there have been a lot of guys
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: leaving but.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: Here's the thing. In you know, one of Bill's qualities
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: is that he's very loyal to people, and he expects
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: the loyalty back. But I think that quality hurts him
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: when it comes to hiring coaches. He only wants to
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: hire coaches that either he has experienced with or he
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: the person that is recommending them is someone that is
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: kind of in his circle of trust, and I think
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: sometimes that limits the pool of coaches that he has
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: to choose from. Yeah, you know, I think that's kind
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: of hurt him over the years.
- 1:27:02Speaker 11: I like that, Fred, because I was just going to say,
- 1:27:04Speaker 11: I feel like the NFL has just changed so much,
- 1:27:07Speaker 11: especially with the style of the quarterback play now. And
- 1:27:09Speaker 11: I know Bill's a big defensive guy, I feel like
- 1:27:11Speaker 11: the quarterback has changed. I feel like their guys are
- 1:27:13Speaker 11: so much faster and there's a lot of dual threat
- 1:27:16Speaker 11: quarterbacks out there now. And I feel like when you
- 1:27:18Speaker 11: have the league changing so much, you do need to
- 1:27:20Speaker 11: bring in some fresh minds. I mean, look at Mike McDaniel.
- 1:27:22Speaker 11: I feel like what he's done with Miami. Like, I know,
- 1:27:25Speaker 11: people make jokes all the time, he looks like, you know,
- 1:27:27Speaker 11: a science teacher or an analyst or something. It's true,
- 1:27:29Speaker 11: there are just so many different types of coaches out there,
- 1:27:32Speaker 11: and why would you not want to bring in one
- 1:27:34Speaker 11: of those unique, you know, pieces that could really change
- 1:27:37Speaker 11: your program for the better?
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: Absolutely, Ryan and Missouri, right, San, He says, question I
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: have is why is Bill's coaching tree so unsuccessful when
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: it comes to head coaching. I know they're good offensive
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: coordinators and defensive coordinators, but why have they not blossomed
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: into head coaches?
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: Yeah, that's I mean a great question. Yeah, that's a
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: great question. I mean, you know, Bill O'Brien did have
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: some success, you know with the Texans, and you know,
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: Rome for now had success. I mean it's you know,
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: it's not totally barren, but a lot of the new guys.
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: I mean, look, Josh McDaniels, we just saw what happened
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: with him. It's you know, I just I mean, Paul,
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: you've got a pretty good take on this, one of
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: you know, is this really a bad reflection on Bill?
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: You know, necessarily that everyone wants to make it out well,
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: he must not be as good as a coach, because no,
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: none of his coaches went on I.
- 1:28:20Speaker 6: Don't I go the other way, and I say, maybe
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: Bill's a better coach than all those other guys because
- 1:28:24Speaker 6: they obviously weren't great without him, so they were able
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: to do it.
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: I know it's a very simplistic way of looking at it,
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: but you do wonder how much of it gets back
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: to Tom Brady and you know, and those.
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: Guys got him.
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: But you know, those guys got jobs, you know, Josh
- 1:28:40Speaker 6: McDaniels and and then the one guy who had some
- 1:28:43Speaker 6: success is Bill O'Brien. And he's the one guy out
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: of all those guys that really wasn't like born and
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: nurtured in the New England system. He was already, you know,
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: an established offensive coordinator at the high college level when
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: he came to the NFL with Bill, So I don't
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: think he was sort of, you know, fostered under that
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: he wasn't a creation of Brady.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: Yep. Let's see. This is Sean and he writes in
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: from Maine. He says, I have never lost faith in Bill.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: I've lost faith in Mac. I knew he was not
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: the guy halfway through last season. I wanted to cut
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: Baiton and draft a quarterback this last draft. We should
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: keep drafting quarterbacks until we get a winner on the
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: topic of an offensive genius, coaches and weapon and Evan
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: you could just shake your head yes or no. Does
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: Evan think of Sean Payton as one of those coaches?
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: If so, how come the Broncos are not better with
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: a supposed weapon like Jerry Judy to help us. Dude,
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: So you think that Sean Payton is one of those
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: offensive minded coaches.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: Don't talk, just not think so.
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: Evan thinks Russell Wilson has washed. I would sort of
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: agree with him on that. I think Russell Wilson is
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: a show of his former self. But I also wonder
- 1:29:57Speaker 6: just how much, you know, we were really close to
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: the situation in New England. How much was Sean Payton
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: all about Drew Brees in that environment, that controlled environment
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: in the Dome?
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: Totally different in Denver, right, Yeah, they That's.
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: The thing about That's why I love American football so much.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: To me, it's the ultimate team sport. You can get
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: into the Hall of Fame in American football and not
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: even have any stats. Those are offensive linemen. They get
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: in just because they block. There's no other sport like
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: that where you have eleven guys all doing something completely different.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: For the most part, and if one guy screws up,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: it can screw up the whole play. And it's it's
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: kind of the same thing that we're talking about when
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: it comes to you know, why were the Patriots great?
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Of course Tom Brady was the main reason. We all
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: know that now, but I don't think he would have
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: been as great without Bill Belichick. And he wouldn't have
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: been as great without Rob Gronkowski and Teddy Bruski and
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: let's just start naming these these players. That's why football
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: is great. But you have to have that that combination
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: of coach quarterback is so key in the NFL. You
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: talk about any of the great teams and they seem
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: to have that really good coach and really good quarterback.
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just the length of time too. I mean,
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: I think that's what's you know, unique about really having
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: almost two separate dynasties of three Super Bowls, And you know,
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: we talk about it all the time. Again, the draft
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: is kind of my thing, but you know, just what
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: would happen if Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman didn't come
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: out of those years the Chandler Jones I Chandler did.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: It's Chandler.
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: I had Chandler air in Jeremy I can't pronounce his name,
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: Dante Hi Tower. You know, they found those star players,
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: and I think that's when you talk about how we
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: got to this point, is that as Gronk and Edelman
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: started to fade out in the late twenty tens, they
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: didn't really hit those picks in the draft. And you
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: didn't you know, Nikhil Harry did not become the player
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: that they needed him to become. Sony Michelle did you know,
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: although it was a key part of a Super Bowl run,
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: did not become you know, a first down worthy running
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: back who could do it all and really threatened defenses
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: in a number of ways. And you know, I just again,
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: just my philosophy is that so much of this is
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: just tied to those draft pick misses.
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: Okay, let's see Joe in Leamington SPA UK. Okay, let's go.
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: He says, uh.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: Just to start, he says, the Byron shirt is getting
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: hate because Barron has won the last eleven league titles
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: by buying the best players from the other Bundesliga of teams.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: So they all dislike Baron a fair bid. That's true,
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: That's not true. Yes, no, okay, speaking from the Patriots,
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: rooting for the Yankees, speaking for the Patriots. We could
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: use a little bit of buying the best players these days, right,
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: That's not a bad idea anyway. In my opinion, Bill
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: is not going to be the head coach next season.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Too many things count against him, talent, management, buy in, drafting.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: But firing him midseason would be disrespectful for all the
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: time and success during his tenure. I think we all,
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: I really agree, we agree with that. If that disrespect
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: extends to firing him on Black Monday, then how about
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: this for an idea, announced before the last game against
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: the Jets that an agreement has been reached the Jets
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: will be bills last game in charge. Then you can
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: have the whole build up in ceremony around the game,
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: in a full game, hopefully a win, to celebrate the
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: greatest coach of walteron.
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: No way, no way, no way, because of this, like
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: I'll say, like, look, this has been like kind of
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: a tough season. You know, look there two and seven,
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: there was nothing like Bill Belichick during Jets week. Like
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: Jets week, he is laser focused. He wants to win
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: that anything else in the entire universe. So like, no
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: matter how the rest of the season goes, like, tune
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: into that game because especially if the Jets are trying
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: to make it into the playoffs, like I promise you,
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: the Patriots could be two and two and fifteen or
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: fourteen at that point, he everything he has will go
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: into that game and he will not let them do
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: a whole pumping circumstance ceremony for him as he's getting
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: ready to play.
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: Like the idea that.
- 1:33:51Speaker 11: That game might be wild simply for the fact that
- 1:33:53Speaker 11: Aaron Rodgers is allegedly coming back.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: That would be something because its people don't know. The
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: Patriots have eaten the Jets fifteen straight times sixteen sixteen now,
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: so if they beat them this year, they break the
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: record for most consecutive wins against one team.
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: Right, my goodness, Yet.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: That's wild, I think so checked.
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: I'm not sure there was the way we could look
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: at anyone.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: At least it might be the existing record that you know,
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: like ongoing it's a lot or something, but anyway, it's
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: it's seventeen straight wins against the team is huge, and
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: you don't want to break that string. So you have
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: to beat the Jets. You know, but like you said, tomorrow,
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: if Aaron Rodgers is playing, it's gonna be It's gonna
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: be wild.
- 1:34:36Speaker 11: It's gonna be wild because I think that the Jets
- 1:34:38Speaker 11: defense is so good and the only thing that they've
- 1:34:40Speaker 11: been missing is a serviceable quarterback. I'm sorry if there
- 1:34:43Speaker 11: are any Zach Wilson fans in here, but he's not
- 1:34:45Speaker 11: it and never has been it. They're just they're just
- 1:34:50Speaker 11: not good.
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers Jersey here early?
- 1:34:53Speaker 11: Are you kidding?
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: Oh yeah, there was narrow packers.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Any other questions questions we had questions in the back. Yeah,
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: we can hear you say.
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: The offensive line has been a major issue. The last
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: two game, it's been a little better.
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: So do you do you think there can be an
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: improvement in the type of plays that are called?
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: Okay, so he's talking about the offensive line has been
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: a problem all year, but it's been a little bit
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: better the last couple of weeks, and you know, there
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: are things that they can do to make that even
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: better in terms of play calling.
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: Ye, right, So how do you feel about that? I
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: mean yes and no, I mean obviously throwing, you know,
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: trying to chuck the ball downfield, and you know, make
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: let Mac hold up on you know, big seven step drops.
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: It's it's probably not a great key, uh, you know,
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: ideally to have just short passing game. And I think
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: we've been you know, kind of hammering that for most
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: of the season talking about that. That's the way you
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: make up for an offensive. I also think run the ball,
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: run the ball.
- 1:36:08Speaker 11: Run.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: But but you know, you talk about are these the
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: right plays, and you look at the scoreboard and you
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: look at the status you say, well, no, they're not
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: they're not working. But if you watch the game, there
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: are plays that are there to be had. And Bill
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: even said it or at least alluded to it in
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: his press conference, like there were there were opportunities there
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: and whether they were drop balls or misspasses or miss
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: blocks or whatever. The it's not the play, it's the execution.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: I think the play calling is fine. I think they're
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: just not executing. And every time it's something different. It's
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: a penalty, it's a misthrow, it's a guy running a
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: wrong route. You know, you can only get down to
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: the basics so much. You know, the Patriots have been
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: easy to defend for too long. We've got to do
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: something to break that, and so I I don't look
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: at the play calling and Bill O'Brien as the problem.
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: I really don't. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: anyone agree.
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: No, I mean, it's never gonna be perfect, and there's
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: always going to be plays that you can nitpick. But
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: but yeah, I would agree largely that it's not about
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: the plays that they're calling.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: It's about the execution.
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: Yeah, and the talents of the guys that are trying
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: to execute.
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: Let's go to the phones and we'll go to Todd
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: in North Carolina. Hate Todd of guys, I'm in.
- 1:37:27Speaker 17: The car, but it's I've got a really interesting thing
- 1:37:30Speaker 17: going on from listening to your discussion. You guys are
- 1:37:32Speaker 17: talking about, you know, who's the guy in the locker
- 1:37:34Speaker 17: rooms that the leaders that keep everything going.
- 1:37:37Speaker 10: You know, who's who's the man that's.
- 1:37:39Speaker 14: Going to take that, who's in Bill's here to help
- 1:37:42Speaker 14: him get through things.
- 1:37:43Speaker 17: Who is on the cookies?
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: Okay, So thanks Todd. He's kind of reiterating what I
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: said before, wondering who are those people?
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's it's you know, it's Matthew Slater
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: and David Andrews. It's it's the guys from the old guard,
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: you know. And I think when you look at Kyle
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: Dugger being a free agent, it's it's who are the
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: new guys. Who are the young guys that are going
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: to pick up the mantle and take it. You lost
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: Devin mccorty last year, you know, just one of the
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: all time great Patriots, great leaders.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: I think we're seeing some of the growing pains the
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: last couple of weeks with all the big plays that
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: they've been giving up without Devin mccordy there on the
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: back end. So I think that's part of this, like
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: coming off season, is setting that trajectory out. You know,
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: Matthew Slater a good chance he might retire at the
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: end of this year. He's been doing it forever, you know,
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: David Andrews certainly closer to the end. So they have
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: to find those guys. They have to find that next
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: wave of you know, players who are going to do
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: it their own way. And you know, I think in
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: a way, Slater, mccordy, those guys are in a tough position.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: They were the ones charged with carrying the towrds post
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: Tom Brady. As we know now maybe a near impossible
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: task to you know, continue that kind of level of discipline.
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: And you know, Brady himself was the standard bearer. He
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: was the one who's you know, first one in, last
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: guy to leave all that stuff. So it's just it's
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: it's it's hard right now. And you hope that the
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: team this offseason is going to say, you know, hey,
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: Kyle Duggar, you have some warts. You know, he's not
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: a perfect player, but you know, this is a guy
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: that we want to invest in and really show the
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: rest of the team. This is a guy that you
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: know is going to be around for a while that
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: you should listen to.
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: I mean, we're getting to the point in the on
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: the Patriots team where the only person who has had
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: Super Bowl successes Bill you know, Matthew Slater this could
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: be his last season, and those guys are.
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: Leaving, and so Andrews, you know, but not many.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: It is not many. And they're all seemed to be
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: on the defensive side of the ball, you know, except
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: for Andrews, and you know he's getting up there too.
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: So you know, who are the voices and what credibility
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: do they have? And when you have a young team,
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: then you need a strong coaching staff. Remember when Bill
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: first came here, one of the first things he did
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: in two thousand is he hired Romeo Crenell and Charlie
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: Weiss and and guys that you know had been around
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: the block a little bit and he brought them into
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: the team. And you know, because he knew that, you know,
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: he had a team full of guys who hadn't won.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: And we get back to the brain drain. That's that's
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: an issue. That's an issue. Who are the coaches?
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: So you just talk too, Fred about just you know
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: this offseason, like no tight ends under contract, no tackles
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: under contract. You know you have basically vermondra Stevenson is
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: you're only running back. There's an opportunity I think, you know,
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: regardless of what happens coaching changes, quarterback changes, whatever happens
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: next year, they have the opportunity to And we've met
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: cap space too, got they got some money to spend. Theoretically,
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: they have an opportunity to change things dynamically this offseason.
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: Okay, let's go to Harry in Connecticut. What's up, Harry?
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: If you.
- 1:40:42Speaker 17: Hey, guys man, Yeah, uh, first time call. I just
- 1:40:47Speaker 17: want to thank you guys, for all the work that
- 1:40:49Speaker 17: you do. I just wanted to ask what your guys'
- 1:40:52Speaker 17: top ten Patriots running back of all time lost?
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: Ten? Yeah you got to go down ten. Oh, I
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: don't know, Thanks, Harry.
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: My one is Curtis Martin.
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Curtis Martin was Yeah, he was great too soon. Yeah.
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: Uh he's still with us, Mike.
- 1:41:10Speaker 11: Not.
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: I mean, he's off the Patriots. To me, it's a
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: good question because really it's been a position that it's
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: just had an interesting role with him. I mean, you know,
- 1:41:18Speaker 5: is is it wrong to say Kevin Falk, you know,
- 1:41:20Speaker 5: like a guy who's at all, you know, reliable in
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: big sites in the top ten? You know, it wasn't
- 1:41:24Speaker 5: uh what was you know, it wasn't one of those
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: you know, three two thousand yard run rushing news or
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: anything like that.
- 1:41:28Speaker 11: But Dylan, I like this question a lot because I
- 1:41:31Speaker 11: feel like a lot of people have been saying that
- 1:41:33Speaker 11: the Patriots offense has not been finding success because they're
- 1:41:36Speaker 11: missing that third down back. And I feel like, you know,
- 1:41:39Speaker 11: this year, everyone's like, oh, we need James Why we
- 1:41:41Speaker 11: need James White? And I'm like, is it just the
- 1:41:44Speaker 11: third down back that could really change the true tuctory
- 1:41:46Speaker 11: of this offense.
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: Well, James White's probably in the in the conversation just
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: for that twenty eight three game alone, right.
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: Right, I mean super Bowl Championship.
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: What about what about Tony Collins old school?
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: Yeah, Sam Cunningham if you want to, you know, back
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: in the day, would be on my list.
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: Chris Matt Smith. We got.
- 1:42:08Speaker 6: Horace Ivory, Sam Vam cunning here.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: How did I dismiss him? I just brought him up.
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: I was not dismissive.
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I would.
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: Those those are the guys that I would lean to,
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: and and the third down backs to me are a
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: little different.
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: They are backs, so they all count.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: And I would certainly have Shane Vereen, James White, Kevin.
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: Fall great great Patriots, all three. Tony Collins was a
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: great Patriots too. There was nothing quite like Curtis Martin
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: though those first I mean, that was you know, I
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: mean some of the people might be newer Patriots fans,
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: but that was that was a heartbreaking situation. You felt
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: like you had an all star running back, an absolute stud,
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: and and Bill Parcells came in and stole them from you,
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: as it said, and then and then played you twice
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: a year with him.
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: After three years of a Hall of Fame, he was
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: going to the Hall of Fame, and that's where he
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: wound up.
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: And you got him for the first three years.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: And yeah, with the Jets, a guy who I really
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: liked but his career was kind of short lived. With
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: the Patriots was John Stevens. I thought he had potential.
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: Stevens was a good player.
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: He's the guy that hit the jet right forty nine
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: and Jeff Jeff Fuller, Jeff Fuller and Jeff Fuller got
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: paralyzed from John Stevens running the ball into him. And
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: I don't think John Stevens. Yeah, I don't think he
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: was ever the same after that. He didn't run as hard.
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: That's football, you know, that's that stuff happened.
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: Marion Butts was Baron but is one of the worst
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: all time.
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: Yeah, let's do the worst ones. Yeah, those are easier.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Marion Butts was three right to the cloud of dust.
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, those colors.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Yeah. It's it's funny like American football running backs used
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: to get drafted like first or second in the draft.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: You were a great running back in college, you would
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: go high. And the position has changed lately, like over
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: the last twenty years, I'd say, yeah, fifteen twenty years
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: where running backs aren't as valued as wide receivers. Uh,
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: and you know the life of a running back on
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: a team. They rarely get that second contract. It's not
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: as valuable a position as it used to be.
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: Even just look at John Robinson right now. You know
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: who's just I mean, first couple of weeks just looks
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: so good and you know, having trouble now really getting carries,
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: and it's a it's a fickle position, and I mean
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: it's it's it's tough to pick one of those guys.
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: And even with the Sony Michelle thing, you know, you
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: invest in then it's not a long shelf life.
- 1:44:32Speaker 11: I feel like right now, it's like the only one
- 1:44:34Speaker 11: I really seeing getting like the bank for his buck
- 1:44:36Speaker 11: is like Christian McCaffrey. But it's again, it's like how
- 1:44:38Speaker 11: long till he gets injured?
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: All right, any other questions before We're going to wrap
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: up the show in a few minutes, So if you
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: have any question back there, yep, yeah, yeah, it's a
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: good question.
- 1:45:07Speaker 5: The questions about picking up the Jones.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: Yeah, if Mac Jones plays better and you know, do
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: you pick up that fifth year option and yes, yeah
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: would be my answer. Yeah, yeah, but it's very affordable
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: and that's why my answer would be yes. But the
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: real question is do you pick up the fifth year
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: option and still yeah, pick a quarterback if one becomes
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: available always.
- 1:45:29Speaker 11: I mean I would still pick one simply because they
- 1:45:31Speaker 11: don't seem to be not fond of Bailey's Appy, but
- 1:45:34Speaker 11: they were okay with losing it. They cut him obviously
- 1:45:36Speaker 11: over the summer and they were able to sign him
- 1:45:38Speaker 11: back to the practice squad. But it seems like they
- 1:45:40Speaker 11: could be in the running for a backup quarterback if
- 1:45:42Speaker 11: they were in place to get one.
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: And then somehow like Will Greer has just been the
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: practice squad guy, but somehow, like you give Will Greer
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: a shot. You know, people are speculating of that, but
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: I just think, you know, to Paul's point, the fifth
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: year option is pretty affordable, and it's just good business
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: to always take a quarterback, you know, and especially right
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: now because coming into the season, you felt like you've
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: Bailly z Appy, who is a potentially good backup quarterback.
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: I mean, coming into this year, I don't know anybody
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: really was that down on him. And you know then
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: they cut him. It was like, oh my gosh, what
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: is going on? They cut bailly' zappy? How could that happen?
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: And since then it's it's been really hard for him.
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: They had the week where he was out for Malie Cunningham.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: So all the signs are pointing to they're not thrilled
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: with their quarterback situation right now. I think Mac is
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: in some ways, probably in the second half, you're playing
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: for that fifth year option. But he has to play better.
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: To me, I know that's what you said in your
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: in your question, he would have to play a lot
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: better than he has.
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: Yeah, any other questions, last question anyone doesn't even have
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: to be about football right over.
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: Here, Freddie right in the middle. Where will the Patriots
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: to ever be as good as they were? Fred?
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: No, no, and and but that's not saying that they
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: won't be good again, but to see to do what
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: they did again, I think I don't think it's possible,
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: you know, to be for twenty years, to go to
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: ten super Bowl you know, or nine whatever it was.
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: That's that's humble, Like that's averaging a super Bowl every
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: other year that has never been done before in a
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: twenty year span, and it's just you know, I can't
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: see it being repeated, you know, by the same team.
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: So no, they won't be ever as good as they were,
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: but they still can get back up there and be
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: as good as some of the best teams today, you know.
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: And that's where, you know, my final final thought on
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: Bill Belichick is keeping that team together for twenty years
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: through the success is one of his biggest accomplishments because
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: you say, oh, you know, it's easy when you're winning. No,
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: it isn't. Because when you start winning, guys want more,
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: people start feeling entitled, coaches start leaving, as we've seen.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: So to be able to keep that team together and
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: consistently winning over twenty years, I think might be as
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: big an accomplishment, you know, doing that as it is
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: actually coaching on the field. So yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: It's it's unfortunate to say, but it's just I think
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: we all realize now you have a little bit of
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: a different perspective on the sustained success and how hard
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: it is to you know, just consistently compete at a
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: high level and to get to the AFC Championship like
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: every year. I mean, you know, even with just some
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: of the crappy teams that they faced on their way
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: to some of those later AFC championships. It's like, you
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: know what, what you wouldn't give right now to just
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: be one of those crappy teams that gets beat on
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: the way to the super Bowl.
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I have no doubt that he can get back
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: to the super Bowl and have that. But you know,
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: winning six and twenty years or whatever it was five. Yeah,
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: I'm with Fred, that's probably probably asking too much.
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Baron Munich can do it because they
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: buy all the players and the other team, but the Patriots.
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: Do it way to land that plane, Fred, Right, all right,
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: well listen, hold on what we have one more thing
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: to do?
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: Oh? What is that?
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: So we do picks every right, every week, we do
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: picks usually on Thursdays, but we're going to do a
- 1:48:50Speaker 6: show again tomorrow night, So we will pick the Thursday
- 1:48:53Speaker 6: night game, which I think starts at like two thirty am.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it kind of hurt.
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: And it's a real humdinger.
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: Gotta hurry one of the one of the games.
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: This is not necessarily indicative of American football, but tonight
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: it's Carolina at Chicago. And what's the point The Bears
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: are favored by three.
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: Carolina at Chicago Bears a favorite by three.
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: Someone recording this.
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: By the way, our picks leader is sitting sitting over here, Alex.
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: She's beating everybody by I think six games. So he's
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: also the only one who takes it with any degree
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: of seriousness.
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: So Alex would never come down for the show. Then
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: she started winning the picks contest, and then she started
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: showing up right, Okay, all right, she's got to take the.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: Leader.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: It's you can just talk to it. Yeah, there you go.
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, why don't you start us off? Since
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: you're okay? So Chicago was favored by three in Chicago,
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: she does, she ponders it. So we normally picked the
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: winner and the winner by the spread.
- 1:50:03Speaker 11: When's the last time Carolina won a game?
- 1:50:06Speaker 6: Two weeks ago they beat Houston and the great C. J.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: Stroud.
- 1:50:12Speaker 11: Okay, I'll take the Bears.
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: Okay, the Leader has spoken.
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: Paul has to mark them down because he keeps the book.
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: That's why I usually win, right, put me down for
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: the Bears to Paul. Two bad teams.
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: But right, all right, Paul, Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: going to take Chicago as well.
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: But this is really bad football, is it tight?
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: What's a guy's name, Tyson Beagent Bigeon. Yeah, I've taken
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: Tyson bagents and I'm not really feeling great about that.
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: That's why I'm chasing.
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: Dad's an arm wrestler. So I will take the Bears
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: and I will lay the points.
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm I want to take the Panthers, but I can't.
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: So I will take the Bears to win, but I'll
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: take those three points and I'll hedge my bet.
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: So Fred hold on Evan from from the Peanut Gallery.
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: All right, Okay, that's why Evans in the last place.
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: Okay, so those at home Evans pitching a Bryce Young
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: coming out party.
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: All right, well, listen, I want to thank everyone for
