2:25
Speaker 2: looking forward to this conversation. Aaron Wood is joining me
2:27
Speaker 2: to talk a little bit about the twenty six annual
2:29
Speaker 2: I was a year off, so a quarter century plus
2:32
Speaker 2: a year, the twenty six annual rib Fest, which is
2:35
Speaker 2: coming up in Marmett this weekend. Eric, Good morning. How
2:38
Speaker 2: you doing this morning?
2:38
Speaker 3: Good?
2:39
Speaker 4: How are you doing?
2:39
Speaker 2: I'm doing very well. Thanks for coming in. Really appreciate
2:41
Speaker 2: you taking some time.
2:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited to be here and talk about Ridfest.
2:44
Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, this is twenty six years that we've been
2:47
Speaker 2: doing Ribfest and this is going to take place it's
2:50
Speaker 2: going to be at the Ben Morris Football Stadium in Marmett.
2:52
Speaker 2: That's coming up. Starts on Thursday this year, right, it's
2:55
Speaker 2: going to go Thursday through Sunday.
2:56
Speaker 4: That's correct.
2:57
Speaker 2: And just a reminder, I don't want to forget this.
2:59
Speaker 2: Mom's on Sunday you get for free.
3:00
Speaker 4: Absolutely forget the moms on month on Sunday.
3:03
Speaker 2: That's right. So Moms on Sunday you get in for free.
3:05
Speaker 2: So let's let's talk about the big picture a little
3:07
Speaker 2: bit as far as RedFest goes. What is Ridfest?
3:10
Speaker 1: What?
3:11
Speaker 2: What's the what's the reason people keep coming out twenty
3:12
Speaker 2: six years later?
3:14
Speaker 4: Well, Ridfest is mainly about the ribs. We bring in
3:18
Speaker 4: vendors from across the United States who cook up some
3:21
Speaker 4: world class ribs, chicken and sausage that is the absolute
3:26
Speaker 4: tastiest ribs you will have ever in your life.
3:30
Speaker 2: And so and these are and these aren't just like uh,
3:33
Speaker 2: of course we have a great local barbecue places and
3:36
Speaker 2: stuff like that. Does people travel to come here some
3:38
Speaker 2: of the food trucks that are coming in and things
3:39
Speaker 2: like that. You have several different ones that want to
3:42
Speaker 2: be out there. So how does that work? As far
3:43
Speaker 2: as getting your barbecue. When you get there, you come
3:46
Speaker 2: there's a there's a relatively small admission to get in,
3:48
Speaker 2: and then walk me through a little bit how that works.
3:50
Speaker 4: Well, you got it a couple of different options this year.
3:52
Speaker 4: You know, some of our rit vendors come from Texas.
3:55
Speaker 4: We got cowboys from Texas. They're very well known. We've
3:57
Speaker 4: got a great river coming in from North Carolina, Carolina
4:00
Speaker 4: rib king. We got a great new river coming in
4:03
Speaker 4: from Ohio hometown ribs. So once you get in, you
4:08
Speaker 4: can either choose a certain rib vendor to get a
4:11
Speaker 4: full full slab of ribs from a certain rib vendor,
4:16
Speaker 4: or they have sampling platters that you can get from
4:19
Speaker 4: each rib and kind of get a tasting of each
4:21
Speaker 4: different style. And then we also have the VP Experience
4:25
Speaker 4: this year, which is kind of new for seventy five dollars.
4:28
Speaker 4: It includes your entry fee and a T shirt VIP
4:30
Speaker 4: t shirt, and then you get access to the VIP
4:33
Speaker 4: tent and you get unlimited sodas and beer at the
4:36
Speaker 4: VIP tent, and then you have a server that brings
4:38
Speaker 4: you a sampling platter from each river. Then you know
4:42
Speaker 4: the server will bringing your ballot and you'll get to
4:43
Speaker 4: taste the ribs and taste the sauces and kind of decide, Okay,
4:47
Speaker 4: this is the best ribs. You get to vote for them,
4:48
Speaker 4: this is the best sauce. I'm going to vote for them,
4:50
Speaker 4: and then the server will file your ballad away for you.
4:53
Speaker 4: So it's a nice experience where you kind of get
4:55
Speaker 4: to relax, have someone bring you the different ribs, unlimited soda,
4:59
Speaker 4: unlimited beer, you know, and enjoy the experience.
5:02
Speaker 2: And this is the best of the best when it
5:03
Speaker 2: comes to community events and the marriage of food and
5:07
Speaker 2: community and people and stuff like that, because there's so
5:09
Speaker 2: much stuff going on. Of course, like you said, it's
5:11
Speaker 2: about the ribs. I mean, the foods want to be there.
5:12
Speaker 2: It's going to be fantastic. You have folks from all
5:14
Speaker 2: over the country that are coming in. But that's not
5:16
Speaker 2: to say there's no other things to talk about. You
5:17
Speaker 2: have live music every day, live music every night. We
5:21
Speaker 2: are super excited about the lineup that we have this year.
5:23
Speaker 2: We got the local favorite hair Supply playing on Thursday nights,
5:26
Speaker 2: kick things off on Friday night. You know, fan favorite
5:31
Speaker 2: local boy, Josh Pantry. He's going to be playing on
5:33
Speaker 2: Friday night, and then Saturday, got a great lineup. We
5:36
Speaker 2: got Analog Boy and a Mastile playing on Saturday night, so,
5:39
Speaker 2: you know, great lineup of local talent, and I think
5:43
Speaker 2: it's going to be great. It's the best thing about
5:45
Speaker 2: this time of year as far as I'm concerned. I
5:47
Speaker 2: love the local festivals. I love the food that comes
5:49
Speaker 2: in and just these all these, all of the immense
5:52
Speaker 2: talent that we have from our local artists and stuff
5:53
Speaker 2: coming out and doing some concerts and stuff as well.
5:55
Speaker 2: How can you get better than food and music, right,
5:57
Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't get much better than ribs and music,
6:00
Speaker 2: that's for sure. Let's talk a little bit about the
6:02
Speaker 2: price of it. What we can do for the kiddies
6:04
Speaker 2: and things like that too.
6:05
Speaker 4: Great. So the entry this year is eight dollars at
6:08
Speaker 4: the gate for adults and three dollars for kids twelve
6:09
Speaker 4: a hundred something new this year, we are excited to
6:13
Speaker 4: announce that Poka Valley Bank has sponsored our Kids Zone.
6:17
Speaker 4: So once you get in, normally in the past you've
6:20
Speaker 4: had to pay a little bit extra for the kids
6:21
Speaker 4: to bounce on the inflatables or right on the rides,
6:24
Speaker 4: and this year all that is going to be free.
6:26
Speaker 4: So again thank you Poka Valley Bank for sponsoring the
6:30
Speaker 4: kids zone. Once you get in, all that's free. Of course,
6:32
Speaker 4: we have the petting zoo which is also free for
6:35
Speaker 4: the kids. So it truly is a family event. You know,
6:39
Speaker 4: there are not a lot of events that go on
6:41
Speaker 4: in Charleston that are family oriented events where the whole
6:45
Speaker 4: family can come and there's something for everyone. And that's
6:48
Speaker 4: what I think is so special about Rivfest is it's
6:51
Speaker 4: for the family. And you know, on moms on Sunday
6:54
Speaker 4: for Mother's Day, you know, you don't want to cook,
6:56
Speaker 4: you don't want to be waited on, So come on
6:59
Speaker 4: down to Riffest, get in than free. You know, we're
7:01
Speaker 4: going to cater to the moms on Sunday at Ridfest.
7:03
Speaker 2: I'm gonna double check here real quick, but the last
7:05
Speaker 2: time that I checked yesterday, the weather for this look
7:08
Speaker 2: for this weekend looked extraordinarily good. It looked like we're
7:10
Speaker 2: going to have some rain in the middle of the
7:12
Speaker 2: week here and then by the time the weekend gets around,
7:14
Speaker 2: it's going to draw up and we should be in
7:16
Speaker 2: pretty good shape for this thing. It looks like it's
7:17
Speaker 2: gonna be very nice.
7:18
Speaker 4: It's going to be great you know, I am super
7:20
Speaker 4: excited about the weather for the weekend. It's going to
7:23
Speaker 4: be in the upper sixties on Thursday and Friday. It's
7:25
Speaker 4: going to reach seventy on Saturday and Sunday.
7:27
Speaker 2: So oh yeah, look at this.
7:28
Speaker 4: Don't need to wear a lot of deterant for the weekend.
7:31
Speaker 3: You know, you're not.
7:31
Speaker 4: Gonna be sweat that much, but you know, maybe just
7:33
Speaker 4: put a little bit on. But it's gonna be great,
7:35
Speaker 4: you know, sunny, seventy. Couldn't ask for better weather. Yeah,
7:39
Speaker 4: that's absolutely right.
7:39
Speaker 2: So it looks like it's going to be an absolutely
7:41
Speaker 2: fantastic weekend for everything coming up. For Ridfest that's going
7:45
Speaker 2: to come up this weekend again, that's at the Ben
7:47
Speaker 2: Morris Football Stadium in Marmette, West Virginia. It's going to
7:49
Speaker 2: be uh, let's see Thursday and Friday. Is it two
7:52
Speaker 2: sessions on Thursday and Friday? How does that work out?
7:55
Speaker 4: So in Thursday and Friday, we'll open from lunch to
7:57
Speaker 4: eleven to two, then we give the vendors a little
7:59
Speaker 4: bit of a break before dinner starts from from from
8:02
Speaker 4: two to four were shut down and then at four
8:05
Speaker 4: o'clock we reopened for dinner. And you know some people
8:08
Speaker 4: are asking what was rip Fest early this year, Well
8:12
Speaker 4: it is uh and here's why. You know, last year
8:15
Speaker 4: we we did Ridfest in September and Marmett and UH
8:18
Speaker 4: Marmette put a substantial amount of investment in the electric
8:21
Speaker 4: at Benmore's Field so they can hold more events for
8:24
Speaker 4: their community. You know, it was a great investment for
8:25
Speaker 4: the for the town and the mayor mayor made a
8:27
Speaker 4: great choice in making that investment. And there's been more
8:30
Speaker 4: events that been more since then. But you know, Rifest
8:34
Speaker 4: will be back in Charleston this this September. But you know,
8:37
Speaker 4: the Rivers had an open date that they could come
8:39
Speaker 4: back to West Virginia and do another Rifest and that
8:42
Speaker 4: date was Mother's Day weekend, and we thought, you know,
8:45
Speaker 4: the town of Marmettz made this big investment. You know,
8:47
Speaker 4: the people of eastern Kennal County showed up in big
8:51
Speaker 4: time for rip Test in September. So you know, we decided,
8:54
Speaker 4: let's do something nice for the community eastern Connal County
8:56
Speaker 4: nice and and and value the investment that the city
9:00
Speaker 4: of Marmet's made in there there been more football field
9:04
Speaker 4: and have a Ribfest here in May. So that's why
9:06
Speaker 4: it's a little early this year. There will be one
9:09
Speaker 4: in September in Charleston and we're excited to announce the
9:12
Speaker 4: new location there. But Marmett is going to be early
9:16
Speaker 4: this year May seven through the tenth at Ben Morsefield.
9:19
Speaker 2: That's fantastic. So that's going to start on Thursday, Thursday
9:21
Speaker 2: and Friday. It's a split session. Eleven am to two
9:23
Speaker 2: pm is going to be your lunch. Four to ten
9:24
Speaker 2: is going to be your dinner. Saturday and Sunday open
9:26
Speaker 2: all day Saturday eleven to ten, Sunday twelve until eight.
9:29
Speaker 2: So mothers again on Mothersday, you get in, get in
9:32
Speaker 2: for free, go get you some food, listen to some music,
9:35
Speaker 2: be out in the nice air with your family. It
9:38
Speaker 2: doesn't get much better than that.
9:39
Speaker 4: It doesn't, it really doesn't. It's a family oriented event
9:42
Speaker 4: and that's what we strive to become.
9:44
Speaker 2: It's eight dollars for admission. Kids are going to be
9:47
Speaker 2: three dollars, and there's T shirts to get for ten. Yeah,
9:49
Speaker 2: t shirts for ten and ten bucks for a T shirt.
9:51
Speaker 2: So that is all good stuff that's going to be
9:53
Speaker 2: at Ribfest this weekend, starting on Thursday in Marmeth you
9:56
Speaker 2: can go to Wvribfest dot com for more information Wvridfest

14:39
Speaker 2: Dave Allen out for one more day. He will be
14:40
Speaker 2: back tomorrow. He'll be back this afternoon as a matter
14:42
Speaker 2: of fact, at twelve oh six on Metro News Midday
14:44
Speaker 2: with Amanda Baron, and then Dave has the con for
14:47
Speaker 2: his show until for the foreseeable future until he needs
14:50
Speaker 2: time off again vacations or whatnot. But his treatment schedule
14:53
Speaker 2: is over and so Dave will be back when his
14:55
Speaker 2: regular schedule here on five ADWHS on five Edy Live.
14:59
Speaker 2: Appreciate you tuning in this morning to the show. Appreciate
15:01
Speaker 2: Aaron Wood who was just in to talk about RedFest
15:03
Speaker 2: coming up in Marmett. But now we have some election
15:05
Speaker 2: business that we need to take care of and running
15:08
Speaker 2: for re election. An incumbent candidate for the Westervigia State
15:12
Speaker 2: Supreme Court of Appeals is just the Honorable Justice Gerald Titus,
15:16
Speaker 2: who joins us on the radio. Now, Justice Titus, good morning.
15:19
Speaker 2: How you doing this morning.
15:21
Speaker 12: I'm doing well, Coop, thanks very much. I'm rolling down
15:24
Speaker 12: the road in a car with no AC, low tire pressure,
15:28
Speaker 12: the need of an oil change, and a broken clock.
15:30
Speaker 12: But we're doing it.
15:31
Speaker 2: Hey man. That works out, okay. Sounds like most of
15:34
Speaker 2: the cars that I've that I owned up into a
15:35
Speaker 2: certain point in my life. That's okay, and that's right.
15:39
Speaker 12: Well, yeah, I did it to this car. It's earning
15:41
Speaker 12: nice when we started.
15:43
Speaker 2: Well, where you're on the road and you're trying to
15:44
Speaker 2: go out and do your business and meet people in
15:46
Speaker 2: different things like that. You gotta do what you got
15:48
Speaker 2: to do, right, I think that's right.
15:50
Speaker 12: When you hold state wide office, you've got to get
15:52
Speaker 12: out and meet people in every corner of the state.
15:54
Speaker 12: I mean, you do you know, you do work, you
15:57
Speaker 12: know for the entire state. So that's right.
15:59
Speaker 2: We've met Justice Titus, of course briefly before. Tom Payton
16:02
Speaker 2: had him on the program and introduced him to us,
16:04
Speaker 2: but we wanted to talk to him as a candidate
16:07
Speaker 2: running for re election to the Supreme Court of Appeals
16:10
Speaker 2: in West Virginia and Justice sits just for a moment.
16:13
Speaker 2: Can you give us a little bit about your background,
16:16
Speaker 2: how long you've been serving on the bench, and beat
16:18
Speaker 2: a brief background of yourself before you got to the court.
16:22
Speaker 12: Sure, I'd be happy to do that. I grew up
16:24
Speaker 12: and was raised in Spencer, West Virginia, small town of course,
16:28
Speaker 12: in Rhode County. I practiced law in Charleston for twenty
16:31
Speaker 12: two years in a variety of settings. Small firm, big firm,
16:34
Speaker 12: represented individuals, represented business, did civil work, did criminal work,
16:39
Speaker 12: including as a federal prosecutor in the Violent Crimes Division.
16:43
Speaker 12: I was appointed to the West Virginia Supreme Court in
16:47
Speaker 12: November of last year, sworn into December, started voting about
16:51
Speaker 12: five or ten minutes after I was sworn in, and
16:53
Speaker 12: have been serving for all of this January term. That
16:59
Speaker 12: course runs through today. We're in the process of writing
17:03
Speaker 12: opinions now that are the product of cases we've heard
17:06
Speaker 12: throughout the term.
17:08
Speaker 2: And that's of course as a bit busy schedule running
17:11
Speaker 2: for reelection. Of course, what is it that you would
17:15
Speaker 2: like to appeal to voters for on why to send
17:17
Speaker 2: you back to the bench. What principles and priorities are
17:20
Speaker 2: you upholding there?
17:22
Speaker 12: Well, I think if you think about West Virginia, we're
17:26
Speaker 12: always running uphill. It's just the way it is. It
17:30
Speaker 12: makes us stronger. But if we're ever going to get
17:32
Speaker 12: to the top of that hill, we've all got to
17:34
Speaker 12: do our part. I was approaching fifty years old. I
17:37
Speaker 12: looked at myself in the mirror and I said, what
17:39
Speaker 12: is my part? What can I do? I cannot do everything,
17:43
Speaker 12: but we can all do something. What can I do?
17:45
Speaker 12: I've got this twenty two years, a very legal experience.
17:48
Speaker 12: I've got the right temperament to serve on the bench.
17:51
Speaker 12: I'm a consensus building type person. Being on the Supreme
17:55
Speaker 12: Court is a deliberative process. You have to be able
17:57
Speaker 12: to work with other people and your fellow justices to
18:00
Speaker 12: get to the bottom of what the law is. And
18:02
Speaker 12: so I had an opportunity to step up and serve.
18:05
Speaker 12: And I think I would like people to know that
18:08
Speaker 12: I do have a heart to serve and a desire
18:11
Speaker 12: to serve. I don't just want to be a Supreme
18:13
Speaker 12: Court justice. I've already I'm already doing that. I want
18:17
Speaker 12: to continue to serve and make a contribution with the
18:20
Speaker 12: time I have left. Now. I know I'm kind of
18:24
Speaker 12: giving you a run on sentence there, but but I'll
18:26
Speaker 12: tell you I think it needs it needs to be
18:28
Speaker 12: said that I really wish I didn't have my job.
18:32
Speaker 12: I wish Tim Armstead, Justice Tim Armstead was still doing
18:36
Speaker 12: his job that the voters elected him to do. I
18:38
Speaker 12: wish he was still with his family. You know, I
18:41
Speaker 12: have I think about that every day. And so while
18:43
Speaker 12: I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve, I do think
18:47
Speaker 12: it's important that we continue to acknowledge his legacy on
18:49
Speaker 12: the court. And you know, it's something I keep in
18:53
Speaker 12: mind every day. But you know, I have to be
18:55
Speaker 12: my own person and be judicially independent and vote, you know,
18:58
Speaker 12: vote the way that I see the law as being.
19:01
Speaker 11: You know.
19:01
Speaker 2: One of the things that I've that I've been doing
19:03
Speaker 2: the show with Harvey and Tom Payton over the course
19:06
Speaker 2: of time and talking and talking to folks, the one
19:09
Speaker 2: thing that that I've learned about myself, and I think
19:12
Speaker 2: about that listening to the audience a lot as well.
19:14
Speaker 2: I think it might be important to explain why the
19:17
Speaker 2: seat on the court is important, what it means, and
19:19
Speaker 2: what it means to the residents of West Virginia, because
19:21
Speaker 2: I think a lot of times we look at the
19:22
Speaker 2: court and we think of the Supreme Court of Appeals
19:24
Speaker 2: and that's over there, but that's really something that it
19:27
Speaker 2: affects everyday West Virginia's as well.
19:30
Speaker 12: I completely agree, and it's been one of the challenges
19:33
Speaker 12: out on the campaign trail. I thought I was going
19:35
Speaker 12: to be talking about myself, which is sort of it's
19:37
Speaker 12: sort of uncomfortable for me to always be talking about
19:40
Speaker 12: myself as a candidate. You kind of get tired of yourself.
19:43
Speaker 12: But I realized there's a threshold question that's more interesting,
19:46
Speaker 12: which is why should you care who is on the
19:49
Speaker 12: West Virginia Supreme Court because, like you said, it is
19:52
Speaker 12: sort of off over there, but it does affect our
19:56
Speaker 12: state's health dramatically for our separation of how to function
20:00
Speaker 12: as intended. For government and our state to function as intended,
20:06
Speaker 12: you need all three branches of government strong. The Supreme
20:09
Speaker 12: Court represents finality. The decisions that we make become law
20:14
Speaker 12: of the land. People set their expectations by it, whether
20:17
Speaker 12: that's individuals living their lives, whether that's businesses you know
20:22
Speaker 12: locally who may want to invest or other places who
20:24
Speaker 12: may want to invest. People need clarity, predictability, and stability
20:28
Speaker 12: so they can set their their expectations and lives by it.
20:31
Speaker 12: And if you don't have that, then it's a structural
20:35
Speaker 12: weakness in our form of government. And our government does
20:38
Speaker 12: not thrive and our state does not thrive. And so yeah,
20:42
Speaker 12: while it's sort of under the radar, and if everything
20:44
Speaker 12: goes the way it should, that's how it remains. It's
20:48
Speaker 12: you know, it's a very important job. It needs to
20:50
Speaker 12: be done right and you need to have the right
20:52
Speaker 12: person doing the job.
20:53
Speaker 2: Joining us this morning is Justice ERYLD. Titus from the
20:56
Speaker 2: State Supreme Court of Appeals, running for re election after
20:58
Speaker 2: being appointed to finish out the term of Justice Tim Armstead,
21:03
Speaker 2: as Justice Titus just mentioned, and we get to the
21:06
Speaker 2: point of the program here, Justice Titus, where I want
21:08
Speaker 2: you to take a couple of a minute or so
21:10
Speaker 2: a minute or two and give us kind of your
21:12
Speaker 2: elevator pitch, tell us ultimately what we need to know
21:15
Speaker 2: about you, why the voters should come out to you,
21:17
Speaker 2: and why this election is an important folk should turn
21:19
Speaker 2: out to vote for this.
21:22
Speaker 12: Well, thank you very much, Coop. I am an experience
21:26
Speaker 12: with law year. I have twenty two years of legal experience.
21:28
Speaker 12: I am the only sitting Supreme Court justice in my race,
21:32
Speaker 12: the only person holding that office currently, So I have
21:36
Speaker 12: the legal experience, I have the judicial experience, and I
21:39
Speaker 12: have the right motivation. I'm a married father of three.
21:43
Speaker 12: My kids are everything to me. I want them to
21:45
Speaker 12: be able to come back to West Virginia, make the
21:47
Speaker 12: life that they want to live, not scrap and clall
21:50
Speaker 12: so that they can live here, so that they can
21:52
Speaker 12: be here and do what they want to do. And
21:54
Speaker 12: I want that for everybody's children, and I want it
21:56
Speaker 12: for their grandchildren too. That's why I'm doing what I'm doing.
22:00
Speaker 12: I would just advise and ask the voters to keep calm,
22:04
Speaker 12: keep Titus. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Please
22:08
Speaker 12: get out and vote. It's your constitutional right. People have
22:11
Speaker 12: fought and died for people in our country to be
22:14
Speaker 12: able to vote, and I hope you'll please get out
22:16
Speaker 12: and vote, and you'll please vote Gerald Titus to stay
22:19
Speaker 12: on the West Virginia Supreme Court.
22:20
Speaker 2: Fantastic And where can people find out more information about you?
22:24
Speaker 12: You can go to my Facebook Titus well, my committee's

22:34
Speaker 12: Today, same Coop. Thanks and have a great day you two.
22:37
Speaker 2: Safe travels. Justice appreciate that that joining us when the
22:40
Speaker 2: air there was the Honorable Justice Gerald Titus. He joining
22:44
Speaker 2: us from the road as he's on the campaign trail
22:46
Speaker 2: being trying to be re elected to the state Supreme
22:48
Speaker 2: Court of Appeals in West Virginia. A great conversation with him.

23:12
Speaker 2: John and I have been doing that show for a
23:13
Speaker 2: long time, but I asked John to come in today.
23:15
Speaker 2: Number one. I owed him a show, but number two,
23:17
Speaker 2: and we're in the middle all the data that is
23:19
Speaker 2: coming in for economic anxiety. This says it's a real
23:22
Speaker 2: sentiment that's in the country. And I've actually had people
23:24
Speaker 2: that's reached out to me after doing John show talking
23:27
Speaker 2: about I'll get into it when we get there, but
23:29
Speaker 2: asking if how we're presenting things, if they're accurate, and
23:33
Speaker 2: things like that. And I thought it was an interesting
23:34
Speaker 2: question because people are a little bit anxious. But what
23:36
Speaker 2: John talks about works out in the long run, and
23:39
Speaker 2: I think that we're going to talk about that a
23:41
Speaker 2: little bit more when we come back. You're welcome to

27:50
Speaker 2: Oh man, I think about husband's pzza way too much
27:52
Speaker 2: to be honest with you.
27:53
Speaker 3: Have you had the Buffalo chicken? That's that's my favorite
27:55
Speaker 3: on the pizza.
27:56
Speaker 2: Yes, I have. In fact, my favorite thing to get there.
27:58
Speaker 2: If I do read their sponsors, I guess I can
28:00
Speaker 2: do that. My favorite thing to get there is is
28:03
Speaker 2: the the the pizza bowl. So it's it's like it's
28:08
Speaker 2: like a foil bowl that has all your pizza toppings
28:10
Speaker 2: without the crust in it. So it's sort of like
28:12
Speaker 2: Zogna in a way, but it's just all pizza toppings.
28:14
Speaker 2: But I get all the chickens in that and including
28:17
Speaker 2: the buffalo chicken, and man, it is so good.
28:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't tried that.
28:20
Speaker 2: It's really good. It's like a protein punch. I'm a
28:23
Speaker 2: big fan of it. John Burdad is here with us

Speaker 2: four five fifty eight fifty eight. Threes are four three, four,
28:32
Speaker 2: five fifty eight fifty eight you can text us questions
28:33
Speaker 2: as well on the tourny the Taylor tax line that's
28:36
Speaker 2: threes are four nine, three five five is zero zero eight.
28:38
Speaker 2: And what I thought I would do is bring John in.
28:39
Speaker 2: I actually have had a couple comments over the last
28:42
Speaker 2: month or so with folks that listen to the program. Honestly,
28:44
Speaker 2: I think just radio listening folks more so than anything else.
28:47
Speaker 2: But they just had questions. John and I talk a
28:49
Speaker 2: lot on our Monday show. John, we talked a lot
28:51
Speaker 2: about turning down the noise a little bit. You know
28:54
Speaker 2: that the headlines are noisy. There's a lot going on news.
28:58
Speaker 2: And I'm gonna actually take w CHS and Metro News
29:02
Speaker 2: out of this because I don't think that we're much
29:04
Speaker 2: into the to the uh engagement clickbait headline stuff. We
29:08
Speaker 2: try to keep things pretty much facts only and not
29:11
Speaker 2: sensationalized stuff too much. But that's not the norm. The
29:13
Speaker 2: norm is sensationalized things as much as possible to get
29:16
Speaker 2: as many clicks as possible. Look at all the quote
29:18
Speaker 2: unquote local news places that will publish a story without location.
29:22
Speaker 2: You click through and it ends up being in another
29:24
Speaker 2: part of the country. You know they're not doing that
29:25
Speaker 2: because they really want you to know about that. They
29:27
Speaker 2: want it because they want you to click, and they
29:28
Speaker 2: get ad revenue based off that, you know, I mean,
29:31
Speaker 2: and and so everything is based to sensationalize just a
29:34
Speaker 2: little bit. And so headlines are always top news. And
29:38
Speaker 2: the thing is is we can tell folks, look, don't
29:40
Speaker 2: pay attention to the headlines, but there are sometimes some
29:43
Speaker 2: truth behind things. And I was, and I was looking
29:45
Speaker 2: at some different things, just big picture type of things.
29:48
Speaker 2: So the US debt number one, I think our are
29:53
Speaker 2: debt has exceeded GDP for the first time ever or
29:56
Speaker 2: for the first time in several decades or something like that. Yeah,
29:59
Speaker 2: so it's the first time in a long time. So
30:01
Speaker 2: people think, but what does it actually mean? Right, So
30:03
Speaker 2: people will hear that, and so they get anxious, Right,
30:04
Speaker 2: what does it mean? But there's also things like a
30:06
Speaker 2: credit card debt. We're at almost one point three trillion
30:09
Speaker 2: as of a fourth quarter of twenty twenty five. That's
30:11
Speaker 2: the highest balance recorded since the New York Fed began
30:14
Speaker 2: tracking in nineteen ninety nine. Card balances have since crossed
30:18
Speaker 2: over the one point three trillion mark. In early twenty
30:20
Speaker 2: twenty six, a sixty six percent increase in just five
30:23
Speaker 2: year years from the pandemic low of card balances. The
30:26
Speaker 2: average APR and cards interest rates are twenty two point
30:28
Speaker 2: three percent. That's roughly three times the cost of a mortgage,
30:31
Speaker 2: of course, and forty percent of American credit card holders
30:34
Speaker 2: currently carry a balance month to month, up from thirty
30:37
Speaker 2: nine percent in December of twenty twenty nine. There's also
30:40
Speaker 2: the thirty day credit delinquency rate is actually lower than
30:44
Speaker 2: what it has been, but it's coming off of the
30:46
Speaker 2: all time high, so we're still pretty delinquent on our
30:48
Speaker 2: credit card debts. Nearly two and three credit card debt
30:51
Speaker 2: or say they've delayed or avoided financial decisions because of
30:53
Speaker 2: their balances, including saving for emergencies, and fifty five percent
30:56
Speaker 2: of credit card debt now is this to cover survival
30:59
Speaker 2: spending including groceries, rent, and health care? More things that
31:02
Speaker 2: we can move on to in just a moment. But
31:04
Speaker 2: these things are in the headlines constantly, you know, we
31:06
Speaker 2: hear about these things they come across on the headlines.
31:08
Speaker 2: We know too that there's a large percentage of people
31:10
Speaker 2: that never actually read the articles. They just see the
31:12
Speaker 2: headline and they're like, oh, so that's what's going on
31:14
Speaker 2: without actually knowing what's going on.
31:17
Speaker 3: And I think to the political divide, it's also amping
31:21
Speaker 3: up some of the anxieties, you know, because people are
31:25
Speaker 3: hardline one way or the other and react to that
31:29
Speaker 3: headlines differently as sometimes proof for or against their political positions.
31:35
Speaker 3: I think that is part of the anxiety as well.
31:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, that people that actively participate and this happens regardless
31:42
Speaker 2: of administration, regardless of political party or anything else. But
31:44
Speaker 2: people actively participate in cognitive dissonance with the data that's
31:48
Speaker 2: presented in front of them because of their political beliefs,
31:51
Speaker 2: and so that can cause anxiety on its own because
31:53
Speaker 2: those things don't match up sometimes.
31:55
Speaker 3: Right And you know, politics is like a pendulum that
31:57
Speaker 3: swings back and forth, and you know, if you're planning
32:01
Speaker 3: for retirement that goes out you know, maybe twenty years
32:04
Speaker 3: from now, or if you're in retirement and you might
32:07
Speaker 3: have twenty years to go in retirement. You know, think
32:09
Speaker 3: about how many elections, administrative changes, all of that goes on,
32:14
Speaker 3: and it's always gone on, and so, you know, we're
32:17
Speaker 3: living in the moment and we put a lot of
32:20
Speaker 3: weight on what's happening right now. But if you look
32:22
Speaker 3: at history and try to put it in perspective. Most
32:25
Speaker 3: of the things that we talk about today, we will
32:29
Speaker 3: forget about a month from now, six months from now,
32:33
Speaker 3: a year from now, ten years from now, and what
32:37
Speaker 3: remains is the progress that we make. You know, if
32:42
Speaker 3: you think back at history, I always point to my
32:46
Speaker 3: great grandmother that was born in the eighteen nineties. I
32:48
Speaker 3: mean when she was born, they rode horses, the airplane
32:51
Speaker 3: hadn't been invented, and she lived in the to the
32:54
Speaker 3: nineteen eighties. You know, there were bad things that happened,
32:58
Speaker 3: World War one and two and the Spanish Flu and
33:01
Speaker 3: the Great Depression and the Cold War and all of
33:04
Speaker 3: those things went on, but look at the progress that
33:06
Speaker 3: was made. And when you're an investor, when when you
33:11
Speaker 3: are participating in the in the the market, you know
33:15
Speaker 3: that's what you're investing in. You're investing in that human
33:19
Speaker 3: progress that happens over time. And it doesn't happen in
33:21
Speaker 3: a straight line, and bad news stories can come up,
33:25
Speaker 3: but I think it's good to try to always keep
33:27
Speaker 3: some kind of balanced perspective on what's actually happening. And
33:31
Speaker 3: if you talk to most people, most people would say, yes,
33:35
Speaker 3: change and progress happening even more rapidly than it has
33:39
Speaker 3: in the past, and so you know it, certainly the
33:44
Speaker 3: news can consume us, but we still have to take
33:48
Speaker 3: our actions, our individual actions, because regardless of what the
33:52
Speaker 3: news is, that someday you're going to want to retire,
33:56
Speaker 3: you're going to need to have fund set aside somewhere,
33:59
Speaker 3: And no one can predict day to day what happens
34:02
Speaker 3: to the market, but history shows it's a pretty good
34:07
Speaker 3: bat that somewhere along the way, you know we're going
34:11
Speaker 3: to make progress, and progress is generally comes with profitability.
34:17
Speaker 2: Trying to talk down the anxiety a little bit, and
34:19
Speaker 2: I think that does a great job at it because
34:20
Speaker 2: we've seen I mean, we've seen nine to eleven, We've
34:22
Speaker 2: seen Pearl Harper, We've seen all kinds of things in
34:24
Speaker 2: this country, specifically, we've seen COVID. I mean, we've seen
34:26
Speaker 2: all kinds of things. That was a major disruption, and
34:29
Speaker 2: the market always comes through that. And the thing that
34:31
Speaker 2: I think to the point that you motive made a
34:33
Speaker 2: moment ago with the political divide, people are now sort
34:38
Speaker 2: of relating their morality with a political position, which isn't
34:42
Speaker 2: necessarily don't necessarily square up all the time, politics and
34:46
Speaker 2: morals aren't necessarily the same thing, and so what you're
34:48
Speaker 2: getting sometimes is when there is a there is some
34:51
Speaker 2: sort of data that goes against a political position, suddenly
34:55
Speaker 2: they defend it like it's a moral position. And so
34:58
Speaker 2: you could look at data like, for example, when we
35:01
Speaker 2: talk about the market in war, it's like, oh, you're
35:03
Speaker 2: going to crash the economy now because there's a war. Well,
35:05
Speaker 2: the truth of the matter is there are companies that
35:07
Speaker 2: make money during conflict and don't moralize it. The fact
35:11
Speaker 2: is it's there.
35:12
Speaker 3: Well, and the reality is right now, for the last
35:15
Speaker 3: six quarters, corporate earnings are up double digits, exactly, for
35:20
Speaker 3: six quarters in a row. If you look at the
35:23
Speaker 3: for the last twenty years, if you look at the
35:25
Speaker 3: price of stocks, the market versus corporate earnings, they go
35:31
Speaker 3: up almost lockstep together. You know, the market's up, you know,
35:35
Speaker 3: five hundred percent because earnings are up five hundred percent.
35:38
Speaker 2: And see there might be somebody there now it's like, well,
35:40
Speaker 2: that's exactly the problem. Five hundred percent increase it, Okay, whatever, whatever, Okay,
35:44
Speaker 2: I understand that you have a political reason for that,
35:46
Speaker 2: but we're talking about retiring and trying to make yourself
35:49
Speaker 2: solvent into retirement, take advantage of the market as it exists.
35:53
Speaker 2: And this is how it exists. There's companies that know
35:56
Speaker 2: how to pivot during whatever's happening, whether it be conflict,
35:59
Speaker 2: whether it be peace times, whether it's tige interest rates
36:01
Speaker 2: where there's low interest rates, whatever it is, there's people
36:03
Speaker 2: that know how to take advantage of that. And that's
36:05
Speaker 2: what we participate in.
36:06
Speaker 3: And companies operate not a lot different than you and
36:10
Speaker 3: I operate in our families. I mean, if we're facing something,
36:13
Speaker 3: we don't throw our hands up and quit. You know,
36:16
Speaker 3: we try to figure out how do I deal with
36:18
Speaker 3: this problem? And that's that's why, you know, look at COVID.
36:22
Speaker 3: Covid is a great recent example. I mean, the economy
36:26
Speaker 3: basically seemed like it was going to shut down and
36:28
Speaker 3: nothing was going to happen. But what happened. Innovation happened.
36:31
Speaker 3: People started doing things online and zoom meetings and all
36:35
Speaker 3: these things that allowed them to continue to operate and
36:40
Speaker 3: do business in the best way they knew how. They
36:42
Speaker 3: didn't just quit.
36:43
Speaker 2: This is such a small thing when it comes to
36:46
Speaker 2: like your day to day necessarily, but think about a
36:49
Speaker 2: couple of years ago pre COVID, how many places could
36:52
Speaker 2: you actually go and pick up food from? And you know,
36:55
Speaker 2: I don't mean the delivery, because that was starting to
36:57
Speaker 2: be a little bit you know, Ober delivers and stuff
36:59
Speaker 2: like that was starting to get a little bit more prevalent.
37:01
Speaker 2: Although we certainly sped up the prevalency of those services,
37:04
Speaker 2: but as far as like actually ordering pickup from somewhere,
37:07
Speaker 2: that wasn't something that every single restaurant did. Now basically
37:11
Speaker 2: every single restaurant has some sort of a pet.
37:12
Speaker 3: Used to be pizza and Chinese food right now now
37:15
Speaker 3: anything you can.
37:16
Speaker 2: And now the reason they do that there is expectation
37:17
Speaker 2: to it, but also it's profitable.
37:19
Speaker 3: It's profitable, and people are willing to pay for it.
37:21
Speaker 3: You see. That's that's the thing about the economy. You know,
37:24
Speaker 3: nobody is forcing you to spend your money somewhere. You're
37:27
Speaker 3: choosing to spend your money at whatever service that you
37:30
Speaker 3: think is a benefit to you or a value to you,
37:33
Speaker 3: and it's a fair exchange. And you say, well, I
37:36
Speaker 3: don't I don't like the fact that, you know, people
37:39
Speaker 3: shop online and the stores have gone away. Well, people
37:42
Speaker 3: voted for that, basically with their dollars and that change
37:46
Speaker 3: also can create anxiety. But that changes collectively what we
37:51
Speaker 3: have decided as a society with our dollars. And you know,
37:58
Speaker 3: if you create goods and services so that people desire,
38:01
Speaker 3: it attracts the money and things change around that.
38:06
Speaker 2: I have a question here about housing, so I want
38:08
Speaker 2: to get to my housing bit for just a bit
38:09
Speaker 2: before I ask the question. From the text line. You
38:11
Speaker 2: can send in your questions as well. Three zero four
38:13
Speaker 2: nine three five fives year zero eight. That's the tenty
38:14
Speaker 2: the Taylor text line three zero four nine three five
38:16
Speaker 2: fives zero zero eight. Give us a call. Three zero
38:18
Speaker 2: four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. So, as
38:20
Speaker 2: far as housing goes, the thirty year fixed mortgage rate
38:22
Speaker 2: is currently around six point three percent, driven higher by
38:24
Speaker 2: inflation concerns and so forth. The national medium rent stands
38:28
Speaker 2: at about thirteen hundred and seventy dollars as of April
38:30
Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. That's twenty percent higher than it was
38:32
Speaker 2: at the start of twenty twenty one, despite a little
38:35
Speaker 2: bit of softening. As far as rent goes, foreclosures filing
38:37
Speaker 2: hit one hundred and eighteen thousand, eight hundred properties and
38:41
Speaker 2: quarter one of twenty twenty six. That's a twenty six
38:43
Speaker 2: percent increase compared to the same period of the year
38:46
Speaker 2: over with foreclosure startups at twenty percent completed. Bankrupt repossessions
38:50
Speaker 2: are up forty five percent year over year. West Virginia
38:53
Speaker 2: is always a trailing indicator on these things, So that's
38:55
Speaker 2: one of the reasons I wanted to bring it up
38:56
Speaker 2: because I saw this in like for the two thousand
38:58
Speaker 2: and eight thing and stuff like that. We see this
39:01
Speaker 2: a little bit later than than than than nationally, but
39:03
Speaker 2: this is probably an indicator of things that have come
39:05
Speaker 2: marking the housing market's tough out there. The housing market's tough.
39:09
Speaker 2: That doesn't really affect what you do as far as
39:11
Speaker 2: building wealth and trying to go into retirement, but it
39:13
Speaker 2: might make you have to determine what you're going to
39:17
Speaker 2: do with your house. Are you buy, are you selling
39:19
Speaker 2: where you're looking to buy, or remodeling if you're looking
39:21
Speaker 2: to do something where you're remodeling, And we have actually
39:23
Speaker 2: a question about that from the eight one, six, four,
39:25
Speaker 2: seven four. We have needed to make some home repairs
39:28
Speaker 2: for a while, with the biggest being replacing a portion
39:31
Speaker 2: of our kitchen floor. What's the best option to finance
39:33
Speaker 2: in this economy, the best option is cash, right.
39:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, save, save it up and and you know, pay
39:40
Speaker 3: for it as you go. It would be the best
39:42
Speaker 3: option because interest rates, you know, you're you're putting money
39:47
Speaker 3: in somebody else's pocket for the convenience of having what
39:49
Speaker 3: you want.
39:50
Speaker 2: Now. Now, there might be somebody out there that's like,
39:52
Speaker 2: this is like a four thousand dollars fix for me
39:54
Speaker 2: to do. What do you mean I should just say
39:56
Speaker 2: for it? Well, there's ways you should you should do that, right,
39:58
Speaker 2: Let's talk a little bit about that little bit, how
39:59
Speaker 2: to control you're spending and how to redirect that into
40:06
Speaker 2: projects or things that you need to pay right.
40:08
Speaker 3: Well, first of all, and just in general basic financial planning,
40:11
Speaker 3: you should have an emergency fund, So if something goes
40:14
Speaker 3: wrong in your house, you should have money set aside
40:16
Speaker 3: to deal with that. Rule of thumb is three to
40:19
Speaker 3: six months worth of living expenses. So let's say your
40:23
Speaker 3: household budget's three thousand dollars a month. You know you
40:26
Speaker 3: would need nine to eighteen thousand dollars in an emergency fund.
40:31
Speaker 3: Were if you were budgeting correctly, if something goes wrong
40:35
Speaker 3: and unexpectedly, you can deal with it. Without taking on debt. Well,
40:41
Speaker 3: if it's a remodel project, that's not an emergency, that's
40:47
Speaker 3: something that you want to do. It doesn't have to
40:51
Speaker 3: be done today. It might be able to be done
40:53
Speaker 3: in ninety days or one hundred and twenty days. If
40:56
Speaker 3: you plan for it, you know you can save a
40:59
Speaker 3: few hundred dollars a month, and before you know it,
41:01
Speaker 3: you know you're able to pay for it. And it
41:04
Speaker 3: costs you, in that example, four thousand dollars instead of
41:08
Speaker 3: four thousand dollars plus interest month after month after month
41:11
Speaker 3: that if you don't pay it off, you know quickly
41:16
Speaker 3: you may pay two or three times the actual cost
41:20
Speaker 3: of the project if you hold onto that debt and
41:22
Speaker 3: just payment onum payments.
41:23
Speaker 2: I'm not an expert on this anymore, although I used
41:25
Speaker 2: to do mortgages at one point in time. But as
41:27
Speaker 2: far as cheap is finance, there is no cheap financing option.
41:31
Speaker 2: I mean you want to refinance your house for it,
41:33
Speaker 2: I mean that's expensive. Even on top of the interest rate,
41:35
Speaker 2: you have the closing fees and everything that goes on
41:37
Speaker 2: top of it. You only get a he lock. I
41:39
Speaker 2: mean those are index to the market. You don't know
41:41
Speaker 2: what's going to happen to your rate there? And plus
41:43
Speaker 2: it's more the interest is more than zero, you know,
41:46
Speaker 2: I mean, I mean all of those are. If it
41:48
Speaker 2: was an emergency, maybe you would look into something like
41:51
Speaker 2: if you're if you had a roof falling in or
41:53
Speaker 2: something like that, you have to do what you have
41:54
Speaker 2: to do. But if something is is elective in that regard,
41:58
Speaker 2: we I've talked about this before in our show. The
42:00
Speaker 2: old layaway program that Kmart had was awesome, right, you know.
42:03
Speaker 3: And to give it built you a discipline in and
42:05
Speaker 3: that sort of thing. So you thinking about things that way.
42:08
Speaker 3: Also thinking about your home, and I think this is
42:11
Speaker 3: a mistake in financial planning that happens a lot. You know,
42:15
Speaker 3: your home, while it is an asset, it's not the
42:19
Speaker 3: same thing as an investment. You know, if you buy
42:23
Speaker 3: too much of a home, then you're taking on more
42:26
Speaker 3: taxes and more insurance and more maintenance and all the
42:29
Speaker 3: things that go with having and maintaining that home. That
42:34
Speaker 3: can restrict you from making other investments that could be
42:39
Speaker 3: growing for you because you have to. If you're living
42:43
Speaker 3: in your home, you're actually a consumer of that home,
42:47
Speaker 3: not an investor in that home. If you buy an
42:50
Speaker 3: apartment building and rent it out, now you're an investor,
42:53
Speaker 3: right because you're not consuming it by living in it yourself.
42:56
Speaker 3: You're generating cash flow from it. And so I think
43:00
Speaker 3: I think this idea, and it's very prevalent, is that, Hey,
43:04
Speaker 3: your home is your biggest investment. Actually, your home is
43:07
Speaker 3: your biggest consumption. And and you know it. It kind
43:13
Speaker 3: of lies on that balance sheet. Yes, it's an asset,
43:16
Speaker 3: but it's not the same thing as having a productive
43:18
Speaker 3: investment somewhere that pays you that you don't have to
43:22
Speaker 3: maintain to get the value. And at some point you say, well,
43:27
Speaker 3: I'm going to sell that house. Well, you sell the house,
43:29
Speaker 3: and yes, maybe it's appreciated over the last fifteen or
43:33
Speaker 3: twenty years. You still have to live somewhere, you know,
43:36
Speaker 3: So what do you do. Well to realize any difference,
43:38
Speaker 3: you either have to change locations to a cheaper place
43:42
Speaker 3: or you have to downsize your house. Well, that's that's
43:46
Speaker 3: not a very good investment. If you have to do
43:50
Speaker 3: that to cash out, you have to downsize your lifestyle.
43:54
Speaker 3: Productive investments over time allow you to increase your lifestyle.
43:58
Speaker 3: So you know, I'm not saying a home is a
44:01
Speaker 3: bad thing to purchase. I think it's a wonderful thing
44:05
Speaker 3: to purchase. But the value of buying a house is
44:09
Speaker 3: that you've somewhat locked in your shelter cost. It's shielded
44:16
Speaker 3: it against inflation because now you've got a locked in
44:21
Speaker 3: payment where if you're renting, rent goes up over time
44:25
Speaker 3: with inflation, So you've essentially locked in a set price.
44:29
Speaker 3: But you have to be careful not to extend yourself
44:31
Speaker 3: to where it now restricts you and prevents you from
44:34
Speaker 3: doing other productive investments.
44:36
Speaker 2: And maybe if you have either maybe if you're a
44:39
Speaker 2: younger person who's feeling pressure from your families, why don't
44:41
Speaker 2: you own a home yet? Or maybe you are you
44:44
Speaker 2: have a child and you've been getting after them for
44:46
Speaker 2: buying a home. The age of home ownership, first time
44:49
Speaker 2: home ownership has increased dramatically just in the last couple
44:52
Speaker 2: of decades, So it is actually not abnormal for your
44:54
Speaker 2: child to be in their mid twenties or even early
44:57
Speaker 2: thirties and not to yet bout the home. I think
44:59
Speaker 2: median ages thirty one now or something. It really went
45:02
Speaker 2: up quite quite old, so that's not abnormal anymore.
45:06
Speaker 3: Well, people are also more mobile than they used to
45:09
Speaker 3: be as far as moving and changing careers and things
45:13
Speaker 3: of that nature. So you know, if you buy a home,
45:17
Speaker 3: just like anything else, you're taking more of a risk
45:20
Speaker 3: if you're only going to be there a couple of years.
45:21
Speaker 3: What's the value of that home going to be. If
45:24
Speaker 3: you buy a home and you've budgeted in and you're
45:26
Speaker 3: planning to be there for the next twenty years, well
45:28
Speaker 3: there's a good chance, with inflation over time that it
45:33
Speaker 3: really doesn't matter. Next year what happens to the value
45:35
Speaker 3: of that home because real estate market falls ten percent, Well,
45:41
Speaker 3: big deal, you're not selling that. You're not exposed to
45:44
Speaker 3: that loss unless you sell. Well, young people move more,
45:48
Speaker 3: they're less settled, their careers change, they're finding the place
45:52
Speaker 3: that they want to be, and it's not always the
45:56
Speaker 3: best thing to jump in and buy a home until
45:58
Speaker 3: you know that, Hey, I'm going to be a while.
46:01
Speaker 2: I think that's great advice, And things change generation the generation,
46:04
Speaker 2: and sometimes that advice, even the old wives advice or
46:08
Speaker 2: whatever it is, sometimes it kind of runs its course.
46:10
Speaker 2: Let's do this. Let's go ahead and take a break.

47:23
Speaker 10: They're lying about Tom Tacubo. Out of state special interest
47:26
Speaker 10: groups are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on attech
47:29
Speaker 10: ads because they want their hand picked candidate in office,
47:33
Speaker 10: one who answers to them instead of you. Here's the
47:37
Speaker 10: truth about State Senator Tom Tacubo's actual record. He voted
47:41
Speaker 10: to keep boys out of girls' sports, he voted to
47:44
Speaker 10: ban transgender surgeries on miners, he voted to keep boys
47:48
Speaker 10: out of girls' bathrooms, and he voted for every bill
47:51
Speaker 10: to ban puberty blockers, not once, every single time. As
47:56
Speaker 10: the father of two daughters and a son, doctor Tom
47:59
Speaker 10: Takou has never waivered on protecting West Virginia children, and
48:03
Speaker 10: his voting record proves it. These outside groups don't live here,
48:07
Speaker 10: they don't pay taxes here, and they don't care about
48:10
Speaker 10: your family. Don't let their money rewrite the truth. Vote

48:26
Speaker 17: We've done a number of projects with Jarrett Construction. Minding
48:28
Speaker 17: people that really care about what they do and care
48:30
Speaker 17: about what we do is pretty unique in Jarrett Construction.
48:34
Speaker 1: They care.
48:35
Speaker 17: They're really really good people. Good people do the right thing,
48:38
Speaker 17: and they're very skilled. They have all the qualities that
48:40
Speaker 17: make up just a perfect construction partner, and they just
48:43
Speaker 17: still us a phenomenal building.
48:44
Speaker 9: That all time, right on budget.
48:48
Speaker 10: Call on chair, It's construction.
49:10
Speaker 2: Just four minutes to the top of the hour. Were
49:11
Speaker 2: wrapping up my conversation today with John Bredet from Fourth
49:13
Speaker 2: Avenue Financial. Just thought I would deal a little bit
49:15
Speaker 2: with economic anxiety. John and I do a show every
49:18
Speaker 2: Monday when retire RTE Radio, which is his show that
49:20
Speaker 2: he does. John Bredet's been doing retirement planning from Fourth
49:23
Speaker 2: Avenue Financial. But I get some response on that show,
49:25
Speaker 2: not necessarily folks that are questioning about the show particularly,
49:31
Speaker 2: but folks are like, aren't you a little too optimistic
49:33
Speaker 2: about how the market works? And the answer is no,
49:35
Speaker 2: because we're not talking specifically. This has been a huge
49:39
Speaker 2: issue that's happened, especially over the last decade or so,
49:41
Speaker 2: that we put the market and the economy in the
49:44
Speaker 2: same silo, and that's not necessarily the case.
49:47
Speaker 3: No, there are lots of factors to that, and most
49:49
Speaker 3: of those things that we can't control, you know, focus
49:52
Speaker 3: on the things that you can control. You can control
49:55
Speaker 3: if you live below your means, you can control the
49:58
Speaker 3: type of earnings you have of depending on you know,
50:02
Speaker 3: the training and the hustle that you put into it.
50:07
Speaker 3: You can control that you're saving and investing and building
50:11
Speaker 3: an emergency fund first and then going into productive investments.
50:16
Speaker 3: Those need to happen whether the news story is good
50:20
Speaker 3: or bad. And history shows that, yes, the market occasionally
50:24
Speaker 3: will get upset. You're not going to like the market
50:27
Speaker 3: maybe one out of every four years, but you're going
50:30
Speaker 3: to love it the other three and you have to
50:32
Speaker 3: have that perspective and believe in the process that you know,
50:38
Speaker 3: humans have a history of being fairly clever, of trying
50:41
Speaker 3: to innovate and make things easier. And every time there's
50:46
Speaker 3: one of those innovations, you know, you profit from that.
50:51
Speaker 3: If you're participating in the market. You know, you don't
50:54
Speaker 3: have to invent the iPhone, but you can sure benefit
50:57
Speaker 3: from it by owning part of the company. And you know,
51:01
Speaker 3: state of verse five, look at where you are in
51:05
Speaker 3: your stage of life, so you can build your allocation
51:07
Speaker 3: correctly and you control all of those things. Totally control
51:12
Speaker 3: all of those things. So focus on that and less
51:15
Speaker 3: on the news. And if the market's down, here go outside.
51:19
Speaker 3: Maybe it's a sunny day anyway, so you know, life's
51:21
Speaker 3: pretty good.
51:22
Speaker 2: That's great advice from Johnbredad. I always enjoy our conversations
51:25
Speaker 2: that we have on Monday, and I thought I would
51:26
Speaker 2: bring some of that in today. So it is doable
51:29
Speaker 2: for you. I know that you might feel a little anxious,
51:30
Speaker 2: but it is doable for you. Give John a call
