- 0:00Hey, everybody, and welcome to the Yukon Football Coaches Show. Jim Mora
- 0:04with US Mike Crispino. Here, Husky's coming off an experience, let's put
- 0:09it that way. At Tennessee. I've never been around that many people except
- 0:13at Michigan one hundred and one nine fifteen. All the pageantry and they get
- 0:19up for it. I got to say, coach, tell me about the
- 0:22experience for your players, because it's something different. You don't do that every
- 0:26day, at least not in the in the independent world the Yukon lives in
- 0:30right now, Well, you don't do it every day. And as disappointing
- 0:34as the game was, it was a good experience for our men. I
- 0:39don't know if they know, they'll tell you that right now, but you
- 0:44know, going and playing in the SEC or an SEC team at their place
- 0:48is fun. I've been able to do it, you know, as a
- 0:50player, as a coach, and it's just always a little bit of a
- 0:52different experience, you know. I've always believed that football is different down South
- 0:57and all. I always will believe that because it, in my opinion,
- 1:00it's true, and people got a taste of it. You know, it's
- 1:04just different down there, Mike. It's different, and it's different in it
- 1:08a lovely, lovely way. Yeah. You know, one of the things
- 1:11I found interesting is I hadn't seen this. I only knew this because I
- 1:15talked to some folks from Tennessee. They got all those people coming to that
- 1:19ballpark, that stadium. And I asked one of the guys, I said,
- 1:23where does everyone park? I don't see any parking lots. And he
- 1:26goes, well, there's really no parking on the campus and you know,
- 1:30to really put cars in. And I'm like, well, where do they
- 1:32go? And he said they just park everywhere, like a mile and a
- 1:36half and two miles away and walk to the game. I've never heard that,
- 1:38and I was pretty damn impressive, I got to say, so I
- 1:42had. I asked the same question of the security guy outside of the locker
- 1:47room. I said, where does everyone park? And he said, they
- 1:49just park wherever and they just walk in and listen. It's an amazing environment.
- 1:56Those people are one hundred percent committed to their school that they went to.
- 2:00It was homecoming. You saw families, you know, kids dressed out
- 2:05in the orange. You saw grandpas, and I mean you saw everything and
- 2:08everyone was one hundred percent in on their school and their team, and it
- 2:13was really fun to see that. You know, that's kind of what I'm
- 2:16used to. I mean, I played at University of Washington, you know,
- 2:20Uh, that's how we were played at UC at coach at U c
- 2:23l A. That's how we were you know, it didn't matter if we
- 2:25were having a good year a bad year. Man, you were a faithful
- 2:28and if you were faithful, you showed up. And uh, like I
- 2:30said, it's it's even more amplified in the South and those people they live
- 2:37and they die. And it was great. I mean, it was great.
- 2:40It was It was great to see. It wasn't great to lose.
- 2:44It was great to see. It's it's what to me, football is all
- 2:46about, you know. I mean, I'm kind of used to that environment
- 2:49in the NFL. You know, every every week the stadium's full and you
- 2:52know, people are they're they're fighting with you and they're booing you when you
- 2:55when you suck. And they shouldn't have that right because they paid the tick
- 2:59paid the money for the tickets. But but they're there, and then,
- 3:01uh, our players needed to feel that it was it was it was you
- 3:05know what it's like. God, I don't know how to answer you it
- 3:07because it was great, but it sucked at the same time. So I
- 3:12think you're talking about US Giants fans when you say they're booing us in the
- 3:15in the stadium, So let you know what, listen, fans boom,
- 3:17right. And I don't necessarily like it in college football because well, in
- 3:23the old days, you could say they weren't getting paid to play. Now
- 3:24they are, so maybe they're professionals in a sense. But uh, I
- 3:28always felt like in college when you bow a kid and if it's fair and
- 3:32you know, boo, the coach bo the guys that are getting paid in
- 3:35the pros boom, you know. I mean, it's it's kind of part
- 3:38of sport, right, So you can't take the personal. I think it's
- 3:42always a sign of passion. I'd rather have people there booing us than you
- 3:45know, people not there. But it was, it was it was everything
- 3:50that I kind of told these guys that would be from the pageantry on the
- 3:53sideline to the energy in the stadium, to the men that we were facing
- 3:59and their side and their strength and their speed and the numbers that they had.
- 4:02And uh, I mean numbers in terms of the number of people.
- 4:05But it was it was a it was a crappy day overall right, you
- 4:11know, all that being said, was still a crappy day. So I
- 4:14got I got completely mixed emotions. Yeah, I really don't have a mixed
- 4:17emotions. It was a crappy day. Yeah, yeah, I was gonna
- 4:20say, you're a bottom line guy. You gotta enjoy what you're doing.
- 4:24I'm just trying to Hey, look, I'm trying to be a glasses half
- 4:27full guy here with you on this, on this on this show. What
- 4:30the truth? It was a crappy day, all right, all right,
- 4:32thanks for being honest. All the thing before we get to the x's and
- 4:36O was which is strange to me in that environment. And Yukon has got
- 4:41a great marching band, okay, but Tennessee's marching band might even be a
- 4:45little better. And Coach, they were playing all the way up till the
- 4:48ball was being snapped in the stadium. I don't know if you you realize
- 4:53that I saw I heard it. Yeah, A strange as that. I
- 4:55don't think I hear that very often. And wherever we play, that was
- 4:59very weird me. Yeah enough not to me. I'm used to that.
- 5:02You know. Well, first of all, I'm not used to bands in
- 5:04the NFL. One of the things I said I love most about college football
- 5:09was the band. And here in the band, yeah, because you don't
- 5:13get that in pro football. And that just adds to it, and that
- 5:16the cheer squads and the Kings and all that and uh, but everywhere I've
- 5:23always been the band they play, man, they play up to the snap
- 5:26because you're allowed to, and they wanted the opponent. And when the band
- 5:30wasn't playing, they had the DJ thumping that music the snap, right,
- 5:34I mean it was it was noticeable to me, and and uh, that's
- 5:39how it should be, you know. And uh, you know, our
- 5:42band missed the game this year, which was unfortunate. But you know that
- 5:45that's the environment that you want an opponent to have to face. You want
- 5:51it to be suffocating, you want it to be confusing, you want it
- 5:55to be loud. You want the band playing up to the last second.
- 5:58You want the the the PA and out or the official come on and say,
- 6:01hey, you guys got to stop playing your music five seconds sooner,
- 6:04you know, because now you know you're getting in your opponent's head. Oh
- 6:09man, I'll tell you what. That was an experience, as you say,
- 6:13a crappy one. It sucked, but you have to go through it.
- 6:15I mean, if I'm a player, we're gonna go to break here.
- 6:17But if I'm a player, I get through that. I try to
- 6:20block it out. I feel better about myself. I get through to sixty
- 6:24minutes, I go, it didn't really bother me. And actually, one
- 6:27of your guys, Valentin Sen, later on, he's gonna tell us the
- 6:30same thing. I don't know. We just block it out. We get
- 6:32in a zone and we don't worry about it. So anyway, Jim More
- 6:36with us ukon Football Coaches show continues in a moment on lear Field
