Latest / Best of the NFL Podcast Network / The Season with Peter Schrager: Emptying the Combine Notebook with Mike Garafolo
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, This is
- 0:23Speaker 1: Peter Schrager, the host of the Season with Peter Schrager.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I have fresh off the Combine.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I wanted to wait this week to record our podcast
- 0:31Speaker 1: till after the franchise tag deadline has arrived. It is
- 0:35Speaker 1: a parent approximately four to five pm Eastern as I'm
- 0:38Speaker 1: recording this, and we've got our franchise tags, so we're
- 0:42Speaker 1: good to talk openly without having a foot in our
- 0:44Speaker 1: mouth when we start talking about some of these contracts.
- 0:47Speaker 2: My guest joining shortly is gonna be Mike Garafalo.
- 0:49Speaker 1: My longtime colleague at Fox and now my longtime colleague
- 0:53Speaker 1: at NFL Network, and my favorite people in the biz.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We were both at Combine together. Lots of laughs, also
- 0:58Speaker 1: lots of conversations. We're gonna recap all of that real quick.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Some notes as I empty the notebook from Combine. Number one,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley becomes the highest paid running back in football today.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The Eagles are smart, they take care of their guys.
- 1:13Speaker 1: They do it so you're not in a bind in
- 1:15Speaker 1: a year down the road, you've got a bitter player
- 1:18Speaker 1: and an agent that wants to take you to the woodshed.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Saquon earned every last dollar.
- 1:21Speaker 1: As that, we know, the Eagles are going to have
- 1:24Speaker 1: to say farewell to several top talent. I would imagine
- 1:27Speaker 1: guys like Milton Williams and Josh Sweat, and we saw
- 1:31Speaker 1: them cut Darius Lay and James Bradbury. I'm curious if
- 1:34Speaker 1: they can bring back Zach Bond. All those guys are
- 1:37Speaker 1: in limbo. Let's take care of our own and let's
- 1:41Speaker 1: remain with the core.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Saquon gets what he wants.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He had a beautiful post thinking the Eagles organization, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: there's a Heylo effect to this if you're if you're
- 1:50Speaker 1: an NFL player, you see that and you're like, oh wow,
- 1:52Speaker 1: they took care of him. They sign him to a
- 1:54Speaker 1: blow market deal, even though it was very it was
- 1:59Speaker 1: very attractive combined to compared to what the Giants were offering,
- 2:01Speaker 1: but they signed him to a blow market deal. He
- 2:03Speaker 1: might have taken less money than what was offered by
- 2:05Speaker 1: the by the I believe the Texans are the other
- 2:08Speaker 1: team that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We're in the on Saquon.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Either way, you take care of him now. So he
- 2:13Speaker 1: gets his contract extension, He's not going anywhere. And as
- 2:17Speaker 1: certain players will be leaving the room, Saquon isn't going anywhere.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Respect it.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I also respect the optics right before a free agency
- 2:24Speaker 1: when players are going to be leaving and Eagles fans
- 2:26Speaker 1: might be freaking out, don't worry.
- 2:28Speaker 2: We did what we had to do. We brought Saquon back.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I would think Lane Johnson might get a similar situation
- 2:34Speaker 1: in the next couple of days. Keep an eye on
- 2:35Speaker 1: that one lane cornerstone piece entering a part of his
- 2:40Speaker 1: contract wherever negotiations does seem to matter and seems to
- 2:43Speaker 1: make a lot of sense there, so keep an eye
- 2:46Speaker 1: on those. That's one note number two. The quarterback carousel
- 2:53Speaker 1: really interesting conversations throughout my time in Indianapolis, and I
- 2:59Speaker 1: think there are more teams that need a quarterback than
- 3:02Speaker 1: there are quarterbacks available, which means in the NFL Draft
- 3:08Speaker 1: you might see these guys go a little earlier than
- 3:10Speaker 1: you might think they belong on a big board that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: in a vacuum, meaning cam Ward could go one, Shador
- 3:17Speaker 1: Sanders could go two, and they may have no right
- 3:20Speaker 1: going that way if you're just looking at pure overall board,
- 3:23Speaker 1: who the best players in this draft. I don't think
- 3:25Speaker 1: anyone would tell you they're one and two. But based
- 3:27Speaker 1: on quarterbacks going where they're going, and based on the
- 3:31Speaker 1: teams at the top of the draft and the free
- 3:33Speaker 1: agents available, that might be how this shakes out. Let's
- 3:37Speaker 1: just do a quick game of mix and match before
- 3:41Speaker 1: we even get to free agency, which starts really in
- 3:43Speaker 1: Earnest on Monday. All Right, Sam Darnold doesn't get the
- 3:46Speaker 1: franchise tag, right, I still think he goes back to Minnesota.
- 3:49Speaker 2: That's my big swing here.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I think they offer him two years, let's say seventy million,
- 3:55Speaker 1: thirty five million apiece. He makes great money. It's way
- 3:59Speaker 1: bigger than what he was making. And it's with those
- 4:01Speaker 1: two wide receivers. It's with O'Connell, and for the next
- 4:04Speaker 1: year he competes with JJ McCarthy. Then you go into
- 4:06Speaker 1: another year of Okay, is McCarthy truly the guy?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Is he ready to go? Or is it one of
- 4:12Speaker 2: these guys's trade bait.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't think coming off the injury McCarthy had, coming
- 4:16Speaker 1: back to setback he had at one point, I don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: think I'm sold on JJ McCarthy.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Just taking this team.
- 4:22Speaker 1: As far as Sam Donald, I think there's still more
- 4:24Speaker 1: to chew on that contract, and there's still more chew
- 4:27Speaker 1: on that Donald bone. Now here's the fact of the
- 4:29Speaker 1: matter is, if Sam Donald doesn't play two of the
- 4:32Speaker 1: worst games of his NFL career in his final two
- 4:34Speaker 1: games as a Minnesota Viking last year, there is a
- 4:36Speaker 1: line a mile wide and a mile long lining up
- 4:40Speaker 1: for his services. But he revealed enough works in those
- 4:43Speaker 1: two games where I don't think the market is there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I don't think anyone's offered him fifty million. I don't
- 4:46Speaker 1: think anyone's offered him forty five million. So you take
- 4:50Speaker 1: the money in hand. If Minnesota can make it work,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you go back to Minnesota, you compete with JJ McCarthy
- 4:55Speaker 1: for that starting job, you beat out JJ McCarthy, you
- 4:58Speaker 1: have another sensational season, and then you hit free agency again,
- 5:02Speaker 1: or you get traded and you get a new contract
- 5:04Speaker 1: out of that deal. So that's Donald. Then there's a
- 5:07Speaker 1: giant gap between what's next. That's why Aaron Rodgers is
- 5:10Speaker 1: getting talked about for the Raiders and Giants, like where
- 5:12Speaker 1: else are you going to go? Justin Fields is probably
- 5:14Speaker 1: the next name that's got a market. I think Steelers
- 5:18Speaker 1: and Jets are both going to be very interested in
- 5:20Speaker 1: Justin Fields. I mean, he didn't beat out Russell Wilson
- 5:24Speaker 1: this year. Is that the most viable I don't know.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But he's young, great kid, smart as hell, has n't
- 5:30Speaker 1: complained one bit his entire career, whether he was in
- 5:32Speaker 1: Chicago or Pittsburgh and got benched last year. Justin Field
- 5:35Speaker 1: is going to be an NFL starter next year. Now
- 5:37Speaker 1: is it Pittsburgh or the Jets. We'll see what happens there.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Now you're ticking off teams and you still have a giant,
- 5:43Speaker 1: gaping hole at quarterback for Minnesota, for Cleveland, for the Giants,
- 5:50Speaker 1: for the Jets, for the Raiders.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So you fill him out, You fill him out how
- 5:55Speaker 2: you want to fill him out. And is Russell Wilson
- 5:57Speaker 2: going to a team maybe? Is Kirk Cousins going to
- 5:59Speaker 2: a team?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Maybe?
- 6:00Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, there are still
- 6:02Speaker 1: too many teams that need a quarterback and not enough
- 6:05Speaker 1: quarterback talent that's available and free agency or via trade
- 6:08Speaker 1: that I think when it's all said and done, and
- 6:10Speaker 1: I don't know who the teams are going to be,
- 6:11Speaker 1: who trade up or maneuver or whatever, but I think
- 6:14Speaker 1: it's a really good chance that it goes cam Ward
- 6:17Speaker 1: one Shador Sanders too, and don't be shocked if Jackson
- 6:20Speaker 1: Dart or Tyler Shuck or one of these other guys
- 6:23Speaker 1: quinn Ewers shoots up the board a little bit and
- 6:25Speaker 1: it's at the end of the first round or middle
- 6:27Speaker 1: of the first round too. Plenty of more stuff I
- 6:30Speaker 1: want to bring in our guests, though. Mike Garifolo is
- 6:32Speaker 1: on the ground with me in Indianapolis. We're gonna get
- 6:34Speaker 1: Mike in here now. We're gonna shoot it around a
- 6:36Speaker 1: little bit, and then I'm gonna wrap up the pod
- 6:38Speaker 1: with some more gossip and rumors I got while I was.
- 6:40Speaker 4: An Indian.
- 6:51Speaker 2: With no further ado.
- 6:52Speaker 1: It's my favorite person in our business, a true real
- 6:55Speaker 1: friend and someone I worked with at Fox for many
- 6:57Speaker 1: years and then of course now at NFL Network. In
- 7:00Speaker 1: an alternate world, we have the number one podcast in
- 7:02Speaker 1: the universe and we're just crushing it together.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Mike Garrafolo, Hello.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Parallel universe. Is that what it is? Yeah?
- 7:09Speaker 1: Ta alternate like, and there's still plenty of time for
- 7:12Speaker 1: us to eventually just just run this universe. Eventually, it
- 7:15Speaker 1: could be it's like, I feel like we're thumbling, Louise
- 7:17Speaker 1: just in the car.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Just let's just hold hands and go.
- 7:20Speaker 3: All right.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So the Rappaport Schultz.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Thing, I'm not going to get into Jordan Schultzen who
- 7:24Speaker 1: he is or Ian Rappaport and what he's all about.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But they have their conflict, but to go behind behind
- 7:29Speaker 1: the scenes as PFT commenter and Mike Florio write up
- 7:33Speaker 1: these odes and these explanations, how I found out was
- 7:38Speaker 1: a text chain of separate NFL people that you're included
- 7:41Speaker 1: on and just hilarity insuing with jokes and memes.
- 7:45Speaker 2: You were there that day, What do you want to share?
- 7:48Speaker 3: So I'll cop to the picture that was my picture
- 7:50Speaker 3: that I took. Now, I didn't leak the picture. Okay.
- 7:53Speaker 3: If I did leak the.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Picture, TMZ would have had it and I would have
- 7:55Speaker 4: had ten grand in my pocket, which is probably what
- 7:57Speaker 4: I should have done.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Did TMC run the picture of Schultz hulking over.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Rappaport, I don't know, but they wrote a story on it,
- 8:05Speaker 4: so you know, if they wrote a story on it,
- 8:06Speaker 4: they think it's news.
- 8:07Speaker 3: And if they think it's news, they would have loved
- 8:09Speaker 3: the visual. So way to go. Dummy could have made
- 8:12Speaker 3: you know on this one.
- 8:15Speaker 4: But here's here's how I, like, I can cop to
- 8:18Speaker 4: this and tell you that I took it, but I
- 8:19Speaker 4: didn't leak it because I was actually sending that picture
- 8:22Speaker 4: live right.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I was like, Hey, look.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Who's having a chat and it's like giggling, like these
- 8:27Speaker 1: two are finally because we know that behind the scenes
- 8:29Speaker 1: there has been enough little like pissing match on Twitter.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, there's there's there's always that. I'll link and
- 8:35Speaker 4: get into the details of that. But it quickly I
- 8:39Speaker 4: realized it was not as cordial as I thought it was.
- 8:42Speaker 4: But by that point I had already sent the picture
- 8:43Speaker 4: out to like five people, which one of them actually
- 8:46Speaker 4: brought it back on a group chain.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was like who leaked the picture? And I was like,
- 8:49Speaker 3: why is that guy here?
- 8:50Speaker 4: I didn't send it to him, And the other person
- 8:51Speaker 4: was like, oh, so now there's a whole different you
- 8:55Speaker 4: knowin that it may have tested the photo off of Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 4: it's like it's like Doc Brown explaining the alternate nineteen
- 9:01Speaker 4: eighty five and back to the future, where it just.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Breaks off this way. I stopped taking pictures once.
- 9:06Speaker 4: I realized it was a It was more adversarial than
- 9:10Speaker 4: I thought. And uh, you know, at some point you
- 9:14Speaker 4: want to let your friend, he's an adult, handle his business.
- 9:16Speaker 4: But I was nearby. Should intervention be needed? And that
- 9:19Speaker 4: should some protection be needed? So they finished their conversation
- 9:24Speaker 4: and internet lore. Next, Oh here comes uh Brian McCarthy,
- 9:31Speaker 4: NFL PR guy introducing.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Me to UH is Justin? Was his name Justin? He's
- 9:36Speaker 3: with NFL Security. I said over there, all right, I'm
- 9:38Speaker 3: real quick.
- 9:39Speaker 2: That happened to disclose the loop on it because the
- 9:43Speaker 2: story has passed.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny because you know, we love we love
- 9:47Speaker 1: this media on media, like when I see as as
- 9:51Speaker 1: annoying when you're in the middle of it, and we've
- 9:53Speaker 1: been in the middle of it with other reporters, like
- 9:55Speaker 1: you hate it and it's everything, but like from Afar,
- 9:57Speaker 1: when it doesn't involve you, it's kind of funny. It's
- 10:00Speaker 1: just ridiculous. The fact that it happened in front of
- 10:02Speaker 1: a Starbucks. And I said this on Bill Simmons podcast today,
- 10:06Speaker 1: J W.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Marriott. Starbucks to me is the hell spot. It's like
- 10:10Speaker 2: it's like Sodom and Gomorrah.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It is like the it is like first and first,
- 10:14Speaker 1: like on Seinfeld or like really it's like times square,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it is. And for that to go down there, there
- 10:19Speaker 1: is probably one hundred people in the vicinity when that happened.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Oh there was a lot. Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I don't know how many solid or knew exactly who
- 10:26Speaker 4: was having a conversation.
- 10:28Speaker 3: There were enough, I mean when he So we came
- 10:31Speaker 3: out of a meeting.
- 10:32Speaker 4: It was the nfl OPS meeting and Ian had just
- 10:34Speaker 4: planted himself there for an hour because that's the crossroads
- 10:38Speaker 4: of everything. You get to see as many people and
- 10:39Speaker 4: you get to check a bunch of boxes.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And I think Sean Payton sits there from Monday to Sunday,
- 10:44Speaker 1: just sits there at a table. If you want to
- 10:45Speaker 1: talk to Sean Payton, just just yeah, that's it. He's
- 10:47Speaker 1: always just permanently sat there.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yep, there you go. Okay, I didn't know that.
- 10:52Speaker 4: So we come out of the meeting and Ian's still
- 10:54Speaker 4: there and he was talking to somebody that I had.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I said, well, let me, I had the fire off.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Here's what came out of the nfl OPS meeting. The
- 11:01Speaker 4: overtime changes, the uh virtual the chin blinding, Yeah, exactly.
- 11:07Speaker 3: A chain game inside the fire. So let me just
- 11:09Speaker 3: sit here and do that and then I'll you know.
- 11:11Speaker 4: So I'm waiting for Ian to finish this conversation and
- 11:13Speaker 4: firing this stuff off, and I look up and here
- 11:15Speaker 4: comes Jordan, and I said, okay, Jordan's going for who
- 11:18Speaker 4: Ian was talking to. And I said, but I don't
- 11:20Speaker 4: know if he sees I in there. No, he saw
- 11:22Speaker 4: he went right for He went right for him. And
- 11:24Speaker 4: then whoever they were talking to peeled off and it
- 11:26Speaker 4: was just the two of them and everybody's kind of around.
- 11:28Speaker 4: And it didn't hit me until ten minutes later that
- 11:31Speaker 4: it happened in front of a Starbucks.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I actually looked at the picture and I was like,
- 11:34Speaker 3: this happened in front of us with the little and
- 11:38Speaker 3: I said, I gotta win a I better win a
- 11:40Speaker 3: Pulitzer for this picture. I probably won't.
- 11:42Speaker 2: But the logos, I know that giant. What is that logo?
- 11:46Speaker 2: It's a mermaid? Like what is the Starbucks logo? Logo?
- 11:49Speaker 2: It's a one? Yeah, what is it?
- 11:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:51Speaker 4: There's I I've definitely looked it up and I've checked
- 11:54Speaker 4: it before, and it just escaped my memory and was
- 11:57Speaker 4: replaced by the uh, I don't know, the the the
- 12:00Speaker 4: millions per year for each.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Position of the franchise tag.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Probably yeah, yeah, that's in your break series. What what
- 12:06Speaker 1: is the Starbucks Hold on? Let me get this here, siri?
- 12:10Speaker 3: What do you say Starbucks? Oh, hey Siri, yeah, hold on,
- 12:14Speaker 3: this is good.
- 12:15Speaker 2: This is good radio. I'm sure a lot of people
- 12:16Speaker 2: are taint the wizing here I again, help me one.
- 12:19Speaker 3: It's like, hey, Siri, what is the Starbucks logo?
- 12:22Speaker 4: This is like Francesa when he counts, Sally goes in
- 12:25Speaker 4: a one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, nine nine.
- 12:30Speaker 2: All right, what do you got Starbucks logo?
- 12:33Speaker 1: Oh, it's evolved it Wait now, it takes me to
- 12:35Speaker 1: like a Starbucks like pr site.
- 12:37Speaker 2: This may not be worth it. Digi Insights.
- 12:39Speaker 1: The Starbucks logo, the famous Siren, which of course from
- 12:43Speaker 1: Greek mythology, is a female who sings and lures you
- 12:46Speaker 1: in Itit's seeductively at the center of the Starbucks cup,
- 12:50Speaker 1: defines the brand. Today, the Starbucks logo is synonymous with
- 12:53Speaker 1: more than tasty coffee. It's about the entire experience of
- 12:55Speaker 1: getting one and drinking one. When someone walks by with
- 12:58Speaker 1: that logo on a Starbucks cup, there are associations made
- 13:01Speaker 1: around people's backgrounds and lifestyles. There's something mysterious and yet
- 13:05Speaker 1: simple in the sirens face. She lures millions of coffee
- 13:08Speaker 1: lovers into Starbucks.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Wow. Yeah, Wow.
- 13:12Speaker 1: The allure of caffeine is that siren is singing.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Discus could not resist the siren song.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Now, traditional traditional.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Seattle natives and longstanding Seattle residents and natives tell me
- 13:28Speaker 4: that they don't drink Starbucks.
- 13:29Speaker 1: No, Well, the same apparently moved the SuperSonics to Oklahoma City,
- 13:34Speaker 1: so I don't think they've built about that. They had
- 13:37Speaker 1: Kevin Durant for a hot minute, then before we know it,
- 13:40Speaker 1: that's that time.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So that was the rappaport.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And then I told Ian, I'm like, dude, there's a
- 13:46Speaker 1: lot of ways you could play this, And I think
- 13:47Speaker 1: Ian kind of played it right where he was like
- 13:49Speaker 1: tongue in cheek fun about it, but also wasn't looking
- 13:51Speaker 1: to have it. And then like the rest of like
- 13:53Speaker 1: McAfee and eyes and they were just hammering it, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: then it got kind of played out, and I was like,
- 13:56Speaker 1: all right, the story's over. But there was a window
- 13:58Speaker 1: in time where Ian could have leveraged that into a
- 14:01Speaker 1: dunkin Donuts play. He could have leveraged that into a
- 14:04Speaker 1: coffee bean play. He could have done a lot of things,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and I think he might have missed the boat, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: it's probably better off long term. You don't want to
- 14:10Speaker 1: capitalize on being in an altercation or verbally accosted at
- 14:13Speaker 1: the combine. Right.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Well, the next day he was.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Talking about duncan on on the Maxazine show, and.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Look what I'm getting, ironically.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Giving it away for free. I was like, that's unlike Ian.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Why would he do that? Right?
- 14:29Speaker 2: I think there was a play.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Maybe he was laying the groundwork. You know, you give
- 14:32Speaker 4: him a little bit and you hope for a lot
- 14:33Speaker 4: more in return. That would be amazing if he gets
- 14:36Speaker 4: on that deal and unveils it, let's say at the draft.
- 14:38Speaker 3: There's time to get that done before that. It would
- 14:40Speaker 3: be amazing, a huge all right.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So I started off this thing in an monologue just
- 14:46Speaker 1: talking about how I think there's a lot of teams
- 14:48Speaker 1: that need quarterbacks and there might not be enough quarterbacks available,
- 14:51Speaker 1: which means come the draft as much as we want to,
- 14:54Speaker 1: you know, talk about Shador slipping out of the first
- 14:56Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, like you know, what happens,
- 14:57Speaker 1: They all get bumped up and we'll see where we
- 14:59Speaker 1: land out as we head to free agency. I'm going
- 15:02Speaker 1: to throw out a couple of names for you and
- 15:04Speaker 1: just give me your armchair quarter slash insider read on
- 15:09Speaker 1: how these situations could go down and really some fun
- 15:12Speaker 1: stuff about like we'll just banner back and forth on
- 15:14Speaker 1: like how the situation could play out. So the first name,
- 15:16Speaker 1: first name is Donald, and I think going back to
- 15:19Speaker 1: the Vikings on a small lure, not a huge ever,
- 15:23Speaker 1: like makes sense for both sides. But is there a
- 15:26Speaker 1: stalking horse that might blow Donald away? Or is there
- 15:28Speaker 1: a chance where Donald actually does get that fifty million
- 15:30Speaker 1: dollar contract somewhere?
- 15:32Speaker 4: I know that the Vikings not tag. They were asking
- 15:35Speaker 4: questions back at the Senior Ball. Was like, hey, the
- 15:37Speaker 4: Vikings are asking you know, what do you hearing about
- 15:39Speaker 4: Donald out there? They wanted to know if there was
- 15:41Speaker 4: a team that was gonna.
- 15:42Speaker 3: And they never really truly wouldn't know. It would be
- 15:44Speaker 3: more of a leap of faith.
- 15:45Speaker 4: But yeah, in their mind the number at forty to
- 15:48Speaker 4: tag him was too high and he wasn't going to
- 15:50Speaker 4: get there. And I think they're right. I mean, if
- 15:52Speaker 4: Stafford had gone elsewhere and maybe that opens up the Rams,
- 15:56Speaker 4: maybe that's a little bit different. But the fact that
- 15:57Speaker 4: Stafford stayed put, now you're seeing some of these other
- 15:59Speaker 4: guys potentially stay put and don't.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I don't know that Vegas is that.
- 16:04Speaker 4: High on on Sam Donald, which would be the other
- 16:06Speaker 4: place that he could potentially go to. Then going back
- 16:09Speaker 4: to New York if he goes to the Giants, I
- 16:10Speaker 4: mean obviously not the Jets. I mean, my my fever
- 16:12Speaker 4: dream was he would go to the Jets.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Would just be awesome. I would just love to just
- 16:15Speaker 3: see it. But there's no way he was he was
- 16:17Speaker 3: gonna go back.
- 16:18Speaker 4: And then in the end, the Vikings understand that Darnold
- 16:22Speaker 4: knows what the best situation is for him. It's the
- 16:24Speaker 4: one that every other quarterback wants right now, Addison Jefferson
- 16:29Speaker 4: and Kevin O'Connell calling the shots like that.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So the question is, you know, how big of a
- 16:33Speaker 3: cut do you take?
- 16:34Speaker 4: And I think we all in our minds were thinking, well,
- 16:36Speaker 4: he's going to be in the forties.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I don't know that he's gonna get there.
- 16:38Speaker 2: No, certainly, yeah, right like thirty to forty.
- 16:43Speaker 4: So now you're to the point where it's like, all right, look,
- 16:45Speaker 4: we understand and you understand that we want to be here.
- 16:49Speaker 3: How do we make this fair?
- 16:50Speaker 4: Right?
- 16:50Speaker 3: I mean I go back. There was a couple of
- 16:52Speaker 3: years ago.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Nick Foles, after the Super Bowl with the Eagles, signed
- 16:54Speaker 4: with the Jaguars for twenty two, which is a big
- 16:57Speaker 4: number at the time. The time, it was huge, and
- 16:59Speaker 4: they were really sort of bidding against themselves, right, there
- 17:01Speaker 4: was nobody else out there.
- 17:02Speaker 3: But it's like, you can't sign a quarterback for at.
- 17:05Speaker 4: The time, I don't know, fifteen and then say oh,
- 17:07Speaker 4: here's our new franchise quarterback.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he had to make it respectable. Right, there's a
- 17:11Speaker 3: great analogy.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I remember that whole situation.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It was like we had to pay him that because
- 17:15Speaker 1: we wanted to show our faith in him and our
- 17:17Speaker 1: confidence in him. And it was more almost like pr
- 17:19Speaker 1: as well, you know.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and you want him to be happy about it,
- 17:22Speaker 4: and you want him to feel good about the new
- 17:25Speaker 4: start that he's in.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Now, Donald would be an extension.
- 17:27Speaker 4: So look, he proved himself in a way last year,
- 17:30Speaker 4: and now it's time for the double proof, right, Like,
- 17:32Speaker 4: now it's time to prove that what happened at the.
- 17:34Speaker 3: End was an aberration.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Right now, I can't play consistently through the end of
- 17:38Speaker 4: the season and maybe even raise my game at the
- 17:41Speaker 4: right period at the right time, and then hope for
- 17:42Speaker 4: better options.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Next year, because there's not there's not a lot of
- 17:45Speaker 3: great options happening now. The Giants, Jets.
- 17:48Speaker 2: We'll get through it.
- 17:48Speaker 1: But like here's my yeah, all right, So those two
- 17:51Speaker 1: games in a matter of eight days. I could argue
- 17:54Speaker 1: it costs Sam Darnald more money than any player in
- 17:56Speaker 1: the history of the NFL.
- 17:59Speaker 3: What was it before, you're my it was fifty before
- 18:02Speaker 3: that and wound.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I thought, you know, you have Tennessee, you got Pittsburgh,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and then it's like these teams are like, eh, I
- 18:09Speaker 1: don't know, you know, Like, I'm sure there were teams,
- 18:12Speaker 1: and I don't think there's a market right now besides
- 18:15Speaker 1: and soda. But if it guess to a certain point
- 18:17Speaker 1: numbers wise, maybe it perks up.
- 18:18Speaker 2: But like this is my other question, do you.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I can't help but think that this is a at
- 18:25Speaker 1: least a window into they're not as high and over
- 18:28Speaker 1: the moon over JJ McCarthy as everyone has been saying
- 18:30Speaker 1: all season.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there's an element of that.
- 18:33Speaker 4: I also believe that maybe he played at least for
- 18:35Speaker 4: a period of time last year above their expectations.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Donald, that is right, and so.
- 18:41Speaker 4: You want to sort of run that back because if
- 18:43Speaker 4: McCarthy doesn't beat him out, Right, if you bring him
- 18:46Speaker 4: back and he doesn't beat him out, and if you're
- 18:47Speaker 4: paying him thirty million, it's gonna be tough.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Like the tie is going to go to Sun Donald
- 18:50Speaker 3: in that situation.
- 18:51Speaker 4: But if McCarthy doesn't beat him out, you want to
- 18:54Speaker 4: make sure you have the best possible solution at the
- 18:55Speaker 4: quarterback position. So it's a delicate balance, right, Like you're
- 18:58Speaker 4: still sort of committed to McCarthy, and I know that
- 19:01Speaker 4: Quacy Adolpha Mensa really was looking forward to let's get
- 19:05Speaker 4: a good quarterback on a rook deal, which allows us
- 19:07Speaker 4: the flexibility to spend elsewhere. Well, that sort of went
- 19:10Speaker 4: out the window when he didn't play his rookie year
- 19:12Speaker 4: because now let's say he plays next year for this
- 19:15Speaker 4: upcoming season and he plays the year after day, you're
- 19:17Speaker 4: only getting two years at that point because he didn't
- 19:19Speaker 4: won an extension at that point, So that window sort
- 19:22Speaker 4: of got muddled a little bit.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I also think you bring in Donald for whatever thirty
- 19:27Speaker 1: thirty five. Let's say that you have JJ on the
- 19:30Speaker 1: rookie deal. If they both play well, or they both
- 19:33Speaker 1: are doing well in camp, you could still trade either
- 19:35Speaker 1: one of them, Yeah, into one of these quarterback media teams.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And Donald's contract is not so prohibitive where it would
- 19:41Speaker 1: be like that's a crippling contract for a.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Team to take on.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Coincidentally, Donald could wind up being Sam Bradford who was
- 19:46Speaker 4: traded to Minnesota when Teddy Bridgewater.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Labor Day. That was it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Philly had Wentz, Philly had who else? It was Wentz.
- 19:57Speaker 4: I know exactly who else because I know why because
- 20:02Speaker 4: they went from Wentz jumped over Chase Daniel, who had
- 20:05Speaker 4: gotten a really good deal.
- 20:06Speaker 3: I had a million is the.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Backup, and you're it's like, wait a minute, you had
- 20:09Speaker 4: Bradford for because they signed I think they signed Daniel
- 20:12Speaker 4: first and then Bradford. I forget how it was, but
- 20:14Speaker 4: it was like there's like forty seven million dollars invested
- 20:17Speaker 4: in your.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Quarterback, which was a ton at that time.
- 20:20Speaker 4: And then so they jumped Daniel and I remember reporting
- 20:23Speaker 4: that day that that Daniel was was pissed, right, yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 4: and Chase I got a call from his agent or whatever,
- 20:28Speaker 4: and Chase was pissed off, and I talked.
- 20:29Speaker 3: To me a lot. Do you remember was it Jeff Nally? Maybe?
- 20:34Speaker 2: And so guys.
- 20:36Speaker 3: So next time I'm down in the locker room, I said, hey, Chase,
- 20:38Speaker 3: can we talk? And we go outside the locker and
- 20:39Speaker 3: we talk. He's like, yeah, but you made it seem
- 20:41Speaker 3: like you know, I said, were you pissed?
- 20:43Speaker 4: He goes, yeah, it was pissed, like, you know, I
- 20:44Speaker 4: want to start, I want to be the guy.
- 20:46Speaker 3: And you know, I was like, well, that's all I said.
- 20:48Speaker 4: He goes, yeah, but like, you made it seem like
- 20:51Speaker 4: I wasn't going to be supportive of Carson.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I said, I didn't say that. All I said was
- 20:54Speaker 3: you were disappointed. You want to be the starter. You know,
- 20:56Speaker 3: you're a competitive guy. You should be pissed. And we
- 20:58Speaker 3: had it. We had a great conversation. And he's now
- 21:01Speaker 3: in the media and he's doing a nice job.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so fine, all right, So that's Vikings.
- 21:05Speaker 3: All right.
- 21:06Speaker 1: The listeners on this podcast are often Jets and Giants fans.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Let's start with Giants.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Because there's been a lot of suboarding, a lot of.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Stuff that's inaccurate that's been out there.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I think you and I are both fairly plugged in
- 21:19Speaker 1: with that market and fairly plugged in with that team.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I think there was a lot of truth to they were,
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know, on the Stafford talk, there were parameters to
- 21:27Speaker 1: trades being talked about with the Rams, and then once
- 21:30Speaker 1: once Thursday hit and you know, the Rams kind of
- 21:34Speaker 1: you know, ghosted everybody and they were like, all right,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Friday morning, it's going to be Stafford talking with McVeigh.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It was a done deal. And they already had been pivoting,
- 21:42Speaker 1: so they weren't left at the altar. They were just
- 21:44Speaker 1: engaging and everything. What leaves them now is the third pick,
- 21:47Speaker 1: which means they can't just sit there and get cam
- 21:51Speaker 1: Ward and talk of Rogers, which from what I gather,
- 21:55Speaker 1: isn't out of pocket and is also a very real
- 21:58Speaker 1: possibility considering what the number might be and the thought
- 22:02Speaker 1: that he wasn't so bad last year. Teammates like him,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and he and Dable kind of with a chip on
- 22:07Speaker 1: both of their shoulders.
- 22:07Speaker 2: This year, let's team up and let's let's do this
- 22:09Speaker 2: thing together.
- 22:10Speaker 3: He's one of the best options out there.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I mean, I know he was in a great season
- 22:13Speaker 4: with the chance, but look around, it's not a great,
- 22:16Speaker 4: and it's not gonna cost you a ton of money.
- 22:19Speaker 4: He's gonna have to make a decision at this point
- 22:21Speaker 4: because we talked about, you know, him being a possibility
- 22:25Speaker 4: with the Rams, and you know, as somebody mentioned to me,
- 22:27Speaker 4: he wants to go to San Francisco. I'm like, well,
- 22:29Speaker 4: but San Francisco's paying party. That's never gonna happen. And
- 22:32Speaker 4: then somebody else said, well, you know, I know he
- 22:34Speaker 4: wants to go to Minnesota potentially if they're interested in him,
- 22:37Speaker 4: and it's like, well, it's.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Just they've got other options there.
- 22:41Speaker 4: And then it's like, well, at some point do I
- 22:44Speaker 4: want to continue playing, And if I do, it might
- 22:47Speaker 4: have to be with the Giants. He has said he's
- 22:49Speaker 4: willing to mentor a young guy. He did that with
- 22:51Speaker 4: Zach Wilsoner tried to do that with Zach did so
- 22:53Speaker 4: he is open to doing that. It's not like he's
- 22:55Speaker 4: some kind of selfish guy who's not going to help out.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I don't know if he has any relationship with cam Ward,
- 23:00Speaker 4: what he thinks of him or anything of that stuff.
- 23:02Speaker 4: He's just gonna have to get to a point where
- 23:03Speaker 4: he goes, you know what, am I willing to go
- 23:04Speaker 4: back into the New York market. Am I willing to
- 23:06Speaker 4: play with a team that you know, are we picking
- 23:09Speaker 4: the Giants to win the Super Bowl? Peter Schrager, who's
- 23:11Speaker 4: done a great job of picking the Super Bowl winner?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Probably Also I also picked Rogers to.
- 23:15Speaker 2: The m v P and win the AC.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I was I was optimistic that he was gonna bounce better.
- 23:22Speaker 4: He was banged up also early in the foot. Yeah,
- 23:26Speaker 4: so you know, I know, I know. It's it's an
- 23:29Speaker 4: option there. I got to see if if Aaron's willing
- 23:32Speaker 4: to make. That's the part I can't really put in
- 23:34Speaker 4: the place right now, is if he's willing to go
- 23:36Speaker 4: there and to play. And even if you do, you
- 23:40Speaker 4: got to do something in this draft. I mean, you
- 23:41Speaker 4: need your quarterback of the future. It sucks that you
- 23:44Speaker 4: lost to the Colts, right, it sucks. It can't looks
- 23:48Speaker 4: like win that game. Excuse me, it was a loss
- 23:50Speaker 4: in the draft order, but it's a win. You can't
- 23:52Speaker 4: win that game. You just can't win that game.
- 23:53Speaker 2: The Lak Neighbors is going to the Hall of Fame
- 23:55Speaker 2: after that game.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I mean, and I would say, because John Maer always
- 23:58Speaker 4: wants to win, he's anti tanking, but I would say
- 24:01Speaker 4: if John Mara had told Brian Dable and Joe Shane
- 24:03Speaker 4: before that game that you guys are going to be
- 24:05Speaker 4: safe no matter what, maybe a different outcomeing.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, all right, so Rogers and then maybe
- 24:13Speaker 1: schaudor at three if he's there, or you trade back
- 24:17Speaker 1: and you get Jackson Dart or you yeah, or you
- 24:20Speaker 1: wait for Tyler Shuck in the second round. Trinee wers,
- 24:23Speaker 1: like I think they have to draft a quarterback, and
- 24:27Speaker 1: if they can't get cam Ward, the pool is awfully
- 24:30Speaker 1: shallow this year in the draft class.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I wonder then if they what they do at at three.
- 24:34Speaker 4: They have talked about how they've had good meetings and
- 24:37Speaker 4: good interactions with Shadora Sanders coming out of the combine
- 24:42Speaker 4: a lot of rumblings that he's no longer a top
- 24:44Speaker 4: ten guy in the minds of evaluators and teams around
- 24:47Speaker 4: the league. It only takes one team though, that does
- 24:50Speaker 4: so I hate I hate to kind of like say,
- 24:52Speaker 4: because if nine out of ten teams are telling you
- 24:54Speaker 4: now forget it and going in the top ten, it
- 24:56Speaker 4: was kind of like Jalen Carter with that sort we
- 25:00Speaker 4: are not taking this guy in the top ten. Well,
- 25:02Speaker 4: the Eagles were the team that said we are taking
- 25:04Speaker 4: them in the top ten.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I did tell you there were teams I told he's
- 25:06Speaker 1: not on their board, and then they drafted him and
- 25:08Speaker 1: the Eagles got them. And now everyone's like, well they
- 25:11Speaker 1: really they should have taken the Carter. Well, trust me,
- 25:13Speaker 1: the stuff coming out of Georgia was not good.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's hard to paint this stuff with broad
- 25:18Speaker 4: strokes here, but I just feel like, you know, at three,
- 25:22Speaker 4: if they if they're at three and it goes cam
- 25:24Speaker 4: Ward one, whether it's a Tennessee or somebody else, and
- 25:26Speaker 4: then it's Abdul Carter and you're sitting there and you
- 25:29Speaker 4: got Travis Hunter in front of you, who could be
- 25:30Speaker 4: an impact player on two sides of the ball. It's
- 25:33Speaker 4: hard to pass him up for a guy at that
- 25:35Speaker 4: point that you know a lot of folks are thinking
- 25:38Speaker 4: maybe he's not he's not worthy of that three pick.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I know that there's supporters in that building for Jackson
- 25:42Speaker 4: Dart in well positioned place yea with that team.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So and there's a history though there's a lineage as
- 25:48Speaker 2: an on this quarterback.
- 25:49Speaker 1: They had that with with Eli and like Jackson Dart
- 25:52Speaker 1: was the number one high school recruit in the country,
- 25:54Speaker 1: went to the USC Treasures of all this, he's won
- 25:56Speaker 1: ten games the last two years.
- 25:57Speaker 2: It's not like he's some stiff or a bust like.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Jackson Dart can play.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that there's members of that coaching staff
- 26:03Speaker 4: that feel like he'd be a good.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Fit for what they want to do offensively. So uh
- 26:07Speaker 3: so we'll see.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And then you know, if you add the if you
- 26:09Speaker 4: add the veteran piece, which they're going to at some point,
- 26:11Speaker 4: if you add the veteran piece, gives you a little
- 26:13Speaker 4: bit of comfortability that at least, well, maybe we can
- 26:16Speaker 4: win with this guy this year, because they've got to win.
- 26:17Speaker 3: They've got to win.
- 26:18Speaker 4: I mean when when when they retain both of these guys.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I said, I know what happens next. John Marrack comes
- 26:24Speaker 4: out and basically says that the way that I phrased it,
- 26:28Speaker 4: and people were calling me, Yeah, there's there's no playoff mandate. Okay, Manda,
- 26:35Speaker 4: but at the end of the last couple of weeks
- 26:38Speaker 4: of this upcoming season, we better be talking more about
- 26:41Speaker 4: playoff positioning than we are about draft positioning for the Giants,
- 26:44Speaker 4: because if that's the case we know what's going to happen.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Am I crazy that I look at their roster and
- 26:47Speaker 1: I don't think they're that far off though.
- 26:49Speaker 3: There's talent, right, there is talent.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Like I sound like, I sound like a loon, but
- 26:53Speaker 1: I look at their front seven and I'm like, all right,
- 26:55Speaker 1: between Lawrence and Burns and Thibodeaux, and then you get
- 26:59Speaker 1: their offensive line if Andrew Thomas is healthy, and then
- 27:02Speaker 1: you got Tracy and Neighbors, and like, there's talent.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It's there, just they don't quarterback.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Neighbors and Tracy were the first rookie tandem since
- 27:11Speaker 4: two thousand and six.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I want to say it.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Was Marquez Coulston. Maybe it was even earlier that I
- 27:15Speaker 4: think it was two thousand and six. Reggie, Yes, right,
- 27:18Speaker 4: it was six. Reggie Busch and Marcus Coulson the first.
- 27:21Speaker 4: They go for one thousand total yards each, and I
- 27:25Speaker 4: think if Tracy had gotten a thousand yards rushing, they
- 27:28Speaker 4: would have been the first duo would ever do that.
- 27:30Speaker 4: So they've got they've got guys that can play. They'll
- 27:32Speaker 4: add some pieces in free agency. The question is how
- 27:36Speaker 4: much depth is there. Because they they had their their
- 27:39Speaker 4: rookie class last year that had four or five guys
- 27:41Speaker 4: up playing a bunch. It's like, look at all these
- 27:43Speaker 4: and it's like, well, did they play so much because good?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Did they play so much because you got nothing else
- 27:50Speaker 3: you needed to play?
- 27:51Speaker 1: These guys like newb Been played well, Phillips played well,
- 27:53Speaker 1: like they were happy with those guys.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Johnson the tight end, Leo Johnson.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So I don't know, I always I mean, maybe I'm
- 28:00Speaker 1: biased because I like him as a guy and I've
- 28:02Speaker 1: known them for years, but like, you know, I saw
- 28:05Speaker 1: someone posted like when Saquon got the new deal, like
- 28:08Speaker 1: Joe Shane has to be rolling in his gray.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Like Joe Shane has to be you know, you just
- 28:12Speaker 2: kicking the punching the air.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I'm like, Saquon wasn't having the season he had in
- 28:17Speaker 1: Philly as a New York Giant, And I don't think
- 28:19Speaker 1: if they had to do it over again, the Giants
- 28:20Speaker 1: would still have Saquon on the roster.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Like I don't.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I don't think you have to keep on pounding the
- 28:24Speaker 1: Giants over letting Saquon walk I was best for both sides.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Well, the question you got to ask is going back
- 28:31Speaker 4: a year ago, the Daniel Jones here right, would they
- 28:33Speaker 4: would they have tagged or would they have extended Saquon
- 28:37Speaker 4: and tagged Daniel. Yes, And even even at the point
- 28:41Speaker 4: where they tagged Saquon in March and then had a
- 28:45Speaker 4: chance to do a deal in July and they weren't
- 28:47Speaker 4: far apart, they were close, Like at that point, would
- 28:50Speaker 4: you do that moment differently? Because after that then that
- 28:53Speaker 4: was it. Once they got into that last season like
- 28:54Speaker 4: it was never going to.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Happen, he was never coming back.
- 28:56Speaker 2: It was done.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Okay, Brown's real quick schefter comes out and says, the
- 29:01Speaker 1: one thing I know is the Browns are drafting a quarterback,
- 29:03Speaker 1: but it might not be that clean. I know that
- 29:05Speaker 1: that's Adam just taking a shot in February. It doesn't
- 29:07Speaker 1: really mean he's putting his name on it for March
- 29:10Speaker 1: and April, but it did perk everyone's eyes up. I
- 29:13Speaker 1: don't think Deshan Watson's the quarterback moving forward. I know
- 29:16Speaker 1: Flacco's no longer there and he's been gone two years,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and like, I don't think they're going to roll out
- 29:21Speaker 1: the UCLA kid who I forget his name, who played
- 29:24Speaker 1: a bunch of snaps this season. So they do need
- 29:25Speaker 1: a quarterback, but like there's very little chatter about what.
- 29:28Speaker 2: The Browns are doing at two.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Everyone just assumes they're going to have a quarterback, but
- 29:33Speaker 1: who's that quarterback going to be?
- 29:34Speaker 3: Well, they're doing a good job because I've talked to
- 29:37Speaker 3: at least two three.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Agents in the last day who have all said like there,
- 29:45Speaker 4: guys were, yeah, like we got a shot at the Browns
- 29:49Speaker 4: and I'm like, okay, So I don't think it's all
- 29:53Speaker 4: three of you. So they're doing a good job of
- 29:54Speaker 4: getting and that's just the Veneran guys, not the rookies, right,
- 29:57Speaker 4: which is good because they all sounded excited about it.
- 30:00Speaker 4: So if you're Andrew Berry, you got to feel good
- 30:02Speaker 4: about the fact that multiple guys feel good about you
- 30:04Speaker 4: being there, and maybe that'll help Miles Garrett feel better.
- 30:07Speaker 4: If it's Kirk Cousins here, I'll we'll get I know
- 30:10Speaker 4: we're jumping around, We'll go right to Cousins here.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I don't think Cousins happens anytime, nothing quickly.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I think that's through the draft, okay, because Cousins last
- 30:19Speaker 4: year went and signed with the team and then that
- 30:21Speaker 4: team drafted somebody.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So unless it's like.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Pittsburg where's Pittsburghs pick that's late in the first round,
- 30:28Speaker 4: twentieth twentieth maybe maybe Pittsburgh, But even then you're risking
- 30:31Speaker 4: the chance that they could potentially take somebody there. So
- 30:34Speaker 4: Kirk Cousins learned his lesson last year. I think he's
- 30:36Speaker 4: gonna play hardball. He's got that no trade clause. Atlanta's
- 30:40Speaker 4: saying they're going to sit on him, So they'll sit
- 30:41Speaker 4: on him for a while and then through the draft then.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I think he's gonna make his decision.
- 30:44Speaker 4: I think at that point you'll see what's gonna happen
- 30:47Speaker 4: with Cousins.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Someone told me if they were to cut Kirk Cousins,
- 30:50Speaker 1: which they won't, he would have had one year for
- 30:53Speaker 1: ninety million on the Atlanta Falcons.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Well there's offset, like he could get paid going forward
- 30:59Speaker 4: and they could offset, you know. So look, he's got
- 31:02Speaker 4: he's got leverage in this case. He knows what the
- 31:04Speaker 4: deal says, he knows what the situation that that Atlanta's in. Anyway,
- 31:07Speaker 4: I mentioned him for the Browns because if Cleveland wants
- 31:09Speaker 4: to do that, they could potentially see what happens through
- 31:12Speaker 4: the draft and then circle back on Cousins.
- 31:14Speaker 3: There's not enough.
- 31:15Speaker 4: You mentioned that there's not enough quarterbacks out all these
- 31:17Speaker 4: seats capably. So I think if your cousins, you're comfortable
- 31:21Speaker 4: waiting because at that point, now you've got a team that,
- 31:23Speaker 4: oh we have three free agency trades, the draft, we.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Really didn't get what we needed. We want to explore
- 31:28Speaker 3: this option at this point, all.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Right, we're gonna rap quickly, but I want to give
- 31:32Speaker 2: you a couple more teams.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Jets, I have no idea. I mean I've heard justin Fields, yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 1: but I think Steelers are good.
- 31:37Speaker 2: I think has his choice.
- 31:39Speaker 1: He's going to stick in Pittsburgh over going to the
- 31:41Speaker 1: Jets and another rebuilding thing.
- 31:42Speaker 2: But who knows, we'll see.
- 31:43Speaker 3: I mean, money talks.
- 31:44Speaker 1: But if it's not justin Fields. They can't go back
- 31:46Speaker 1: to Rogers, they can't go back to Darnold. They're too
- 31:49Speaker 1: far back in the draft to get cam Ward. They
- 31:52Speaker 1: have all these star players at different positions, but they
- 31:54Speaker 1: have a giant, gaping hole at quarterback. Could they really
- 31:57Speaker 1: roll out Tyrod Taylor as their quarterback next year?
- 31:59Speaker 3: I mean, you keep saying these names. At what point
- 32:01Speaker 3: do you get to the level of Tyrod Taylor?
- 32:03Speaker 2: You go, okay, well, and.
- 32:07Speaker 3: There are other options.
- 32:07Speaker 4: I mean, you could draft the guy late, maybe he
- 32:09Speaker 4: develops a while you're setting yourself up potentially to draft
- 32:13Speaker 4: the guy next year as well.
- 32:15Speaker 3: So there are other options. I mean, have we mentioned
- 32:17Speaker 3: Daniel Jones yet?
- 32:18Speaker 4: No name?
- 32:20Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and then a name that they're not great options.
- 32:23Speaker 1: They're not a name that I keep getting told by
- 32:27Speaker 1: teams that are like, well, you can always go to
- 32:29Speaker 1: that next year. You're gonna laugh. But Jared Stidham's name
- 32:32Speaker 1: keeps on coming up. Stidy like, well, you know, if
- 32:34Speaker 1: you miss out on all of them, Stidham can at
- 32:36Speaker 1: least hold the fort. And you're like, geez, are we
- 32:37Speaker 1: really talking about I mean, I guess, like, but that's
- 32:39Speaker 1: where we're at.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think Daniel Jones.
- 32:43Speaker 4: I've heard his name connected to the Indianapolis Cults a bunch,
- 32:46Speaker 4: which would make sense for him, right, that's that's a
- 32:48Speaker 4: spot for him, although they do from what I heard,
- 32:51Speaker 4: Indy does want a guy potentially that could help Anthony
- 32:55Speaker 4: Richards and you know, Daniel Jones, I gotta go in
- 32:58Speaker 4: there and say, let me help this guy.
- 32:59Speaker 3: No, they are going to go into makes the company
- 33:01Speaker 3: guy out.
- 33:01Speaker 4: So Indy's got to walk that fine line of we
- 33:04Speaker 4: got to get somebody here who's gonna help. But we
- 33:07Speaker 4: also if he's not the guy, if we eventually this
- 33:09Speaker 4: year go you know what, we're out on Anthony Richardson.
- 33:11Speaker 4: We need somebody that can win because again, just like
- 33:14Speaker 4: the Giants, they're in a position where they have.
- 33:16Speaker 3: To win to make it come on their jobs.
- 33:18Speaker 2: In twenty six, I saw Chris Ballor doing media again
- 33:20Speaker 2: this week. I'm like, this guy just keeps out, you.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Know, and it's like, you gotta hit on one of
- 33:23Speaker 1: these quarterbacks after all these years, all right, gat Raiders,
- 33:27Speaker 1: so many cooks in the kitchen from Afar.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I look at this thing and it's.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Like, you've got you've got Brady now involved, you got
- 33:33Speaker 1: Chip who's got an opinion. You've got spytech who's going
- 33:35Speaker 1: to try to be If you got Pete an opinion.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Of course, Pete has history with both Russell Wilson and
- 33:41Speaker 1: Gino Smith. If they want to do a trade, there
- 33:43Speaker 1: you've got. I mean, Brady's got his thoughts on these quarters,
- 33:46Speaker 1: like what do the Raiders do? And they've got the
- 33:47Speaker 1: sixth overall pick again just out of the cam Ward
- 33:50Speaker 1: window where you could just sit and wait and take on.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Yeah, they made their push for Stafford. I thought for
- 33:56Speaker 4: a hot minute that they had a real shot to
- 33:59Speaker 4: make it happen, and I think that that was an
- 34:01Speaker 4: incredible disappointment when that didn't happen for them.
- 34:05Speaker 3: You mentioned that's funny Gino Smith.
- 34:08Speaker 4: At some point, Seattle's got to decide, like do we
- 34:11Speaker 4: want to extend this guy?
- 34:13Speaker 2: They keep kicking the can on this guy. He's been
- 34:14Speaker 2: there five years.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Is one year deal, one year deal, one year deal,
- 34:17Speaker 1: one year deal.
- 34:19Speaker 4: If you're going to trade him, his value is not
- 34:20Speaker 4: higher than it is right now. It's never gonna he's
- 34:23Speaker 4: getting older, and so you know, I know that there's
- 34:27Speaker 4: interest from Pete Carroll on that, but he's got to
- 34:29Speaker 4: convince John Spytech, who's in charge as the general manager.
- 34:32Speaker 4: So keep an eye on that one. That could be
- 34:34Speaker 4: an interesting one. They've got a bunch of irons in
- 34:36Speaker 4: the fire there. I think it's more Russ wants to
- 34:39Speaker 4: get to Vegas than Vegas wants Russ to get there,
- 34:43Speaker 4: right which even last year when Russ visited the Giants
- 34:47Speaker 4: that was initiated by by Russell Wilson.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I believe he flew himself there. From what I was
- 34:52Speaker 1: told is that is whatever that's But then we're laughing.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Russ could be a quarterback for the New York Giants
- 34:59Speaker 1: week one this season, you know the way it's working
- 35:01Speaker 1: like carousel, all right? And then my last one, it's
- 35:04Speaker 1: like I mentioned and I mentioned, we mentioned Daniel Jones,
- 35:08Speaker 1: but like then you've got like the Carson Wentz, the
- 35:11Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo's like, is there a wild card in this
- 35:14Speaker 1: thing that like the Taylor Heinekes, Like one of these
- 35:17Speaker 1: guys is gonna get more money than you expected.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And it's gonna be like the Donald.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Like people forget Donald signed a one year, ten million
- 35:24Speaker 1: dollar contract with the Vikings, and a lot people are
- 35:25Speaker 1: on the league rolling their eyes, being like ten million
- 35:27Speaker 1: dollars for Donald, and.
- 35:28Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, one of these guys is gonna get
- 35:30Speaker 2: a deal. Like is there a name that we're not
- 35:32Speaker 2: thinking about in the quarterback room.
- 35:33Speaker 4: I'll mention once Kansas City once Wentz back apparently had
- 35:36Speaker 4: a really good year and Andy Reid told him, we'd
- 35:40Speaker 4: love to have you back, similar deal or whatever, but
- 35:43Speaker 4: you deserve a shot to go be a starter. Again,
- 35:46Speaker 4: it's not an une question starter it's not a franchise guy,
- 35:48Speaker 4: but it's one of these situations like you're talking about.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And if anybody calls Andy Reid, I mean, maybe it's.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Not somebody in the division. If it's the Raiders who
- 35:57Speaker 4: we're talking about. If anybody calls Andy Reid, he'll tell
- 35:59Speaker 4: them that, and he will. You know, Andy's pretty good
- 36:01Speaker 4: about helping his players, you know, get better opportunities if
- 36:05Speaker 4: the better opportunity ends up being elsewhere. So yeah, keep
- 36:08Speaker 4: an eye on Onz.
- 36:10Speaker 3: It wouldn't surprise me.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Jimmy Garoppolo, I think I think the Rams would like
- 36:13Speaker 4: to have him back. Yeah, a similar situation to Wentz,
- 36:15Speaker 4: like they'd like to have him back. Okay, but let's
- 36:17Speaker 4: go see what what else is out there, because there's
- 36:20Speaker 4: just not enough good capable quarterbacks that are gonna fill
- 36:23Speaker 4: all these starting jobs potentially a these bridge jobs. So yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 4: keep an eye on the two of those guys. If
- 36:27Speaker 4: one of them starting week one wouldn't surprise.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Me, all right, And then ending this thing, cam Ward
- 36:32Speaker 1: got great reviews all kind of Shador. It seems like
- 36:34Speaker 1: it's kind of split and polarized. Is there a nugget
- 36:37Speaker 1: you have on Shador that's worth sharing to this audience,
- 36:40Speaker 1: because every fan base is going to try to talk
- 36:42Speaker 1: themselves into Shador even though he's getting trashed by a
- 36:45Speaker 1: lot of people in the media right now.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, but I when I talk to Jet fans, I
- 36:49Speaker 4: mean not one hundred percent, but I hear one you know, Yeah, yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 4: I hear I hear a lot of them go at
- 36:54Speaker 4: that point, take a shot right at that point seven? Yeah, sure, yeah,
- 36:59Speaker 4: like if they're if they're saying, well, if we're the Giants,
- 37:01Speaker 4: we're up at three and we need a quarterback and
- 37:03Speaker 4: we're desperate, like we can't do that. But it's a
- 37:05Speaker 4: new regime, and if he last that long, we're good
- 37:07Speaker 4: with taking a shout on him.
- 37:08Speaker 3: At that point, we'll see.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't have enough of that feel.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I know that there's you know, the whole interview thing.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Oh he came in and he acted. What did you expect? Like,
- 37:19Speaker 3: you know what he's about, And I don't think he's
- 37:21Speaker 3: a bad dude. No, he said in an interview.
- 37:24Speaker 4: With Jane Slater at the Shrine Bowl our Jane Slater,
- 37:26Speaker 4: our friend Jane Slater. He's like, you know what people
- 37:29Speaker 4: don't know about me is I'm I'm a pretty humble guy.
- 37:32Speaker 4: And he had this huge chain on diamonds everywhere, and
- 37:35Speaker 4: he goes, I'm a.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Pretty humble guy, as it flashed in the lights.
- 37:39Speaker 4: I do you know, I do think that there is
- 37:41Speaker 4: a level of humility to him. You know, he's he's
- 37:45Speaker 4: been around his dad and and and the family, and
- 37:48Speaker 4: we know how Dion things and and and and Dion's
- 37:51Speaker 4: thing is not just you know, acting that way. To
- 37:54Speaker 4: act that way, It's about empowerment. It's always been about empowerment.
- 37:57Speaker 2: He's always been that way, and and and I respect it.
- 37:59Speaker 1: And I also would say this, say what you want
- 38:01Speaker 1: about Shador and like whether he came off as arrogant
- 38:04Speaker 1: or cocky or cockture, like you kind of need that
- 38:06Speaker 1: as a quarterback. And also, he got the absolute crap
- 38:09Speaker 1: kicked out of him for two years at Colorado, and
- 38:12Speaker 1: that guy just got up and kept playing football.
- 38:14Speaker 2: And I think that goes a lot further.
- 38:16Speaker 1: It's not like he's been a diva quarterback with all
- 38:18Speaker 1: pros at every position. Yes, Travis Hunter was there, but
- 38:22Speaker 1: was playing behind a different offensive line than the one
- 38:24Speaker 1: that Quinn Ewers and Will Howard have been playing behind.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Yeah, and some might say, though, that some of those
- 38:29Speaker 4: shots were unnecessary. He should have got the ball quicker,
- 38:31Speaker 4: which is going to be a part of his development
- 38:34Speaker 4: in the NFL.
- 38:34Speaker 3: We saw from Caleb. Caleb tried to escape through the
- 38:37Speaker 3: back of the pocket.
- 38:38Speaker 4: It's a lot harder to do ye in the NFC
- 38:40Speaker 4: North than it is in the PAC twelve.
- 38:43Speaker 3: So I'll say this.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I know it was the combine.
- 38:45Speaker 1: So everyone's watching and Dion's the dad, but like, yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 1: you know Rich Eisen's talking about oh and Chadure in this,
- 38:51Speaker 1: and like who's your favorite, who's in Stacy Dale's there
- 38:54Speaker 1: with him, and who's your favorite?
- 38:56Speaker 2: You know, who's Deon's favorite? Kid? Ranco and Dion's tweeting
- 38:59Speaker 2: right at the show, and like that stuff's real.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Dion is he is up, He's a he's got a
- 39:05Speaker 1: big voice, he's universally respected and whether or not it's
- 39:09Speaker 1: insecurity or whatever. But like some teams might just look
- 39:12Speaker 1: at all that and say, I'm trying to provide for
- 39:14Speaker 1: my family. I'm a GM, I'm a coach.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I don't want that.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really as negative as that sounds, and that
- 39:21Speaker 1: sucks for the kid. But like that, there might be
- 39:23Speaker 1: those who are scared of taken on not only you know,
- 39:27Speaker 1: a player that we're not sure is going to be
- 39:29Speaker 1: an All pro whatever, a quarterback, but also all that
- 39:32Speaker 1: comes with it, whether that should be positive or negative.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Plus a head coach who goes, if we draft this guy,
- 39:37Speaker 4: is Dean going to be looking over my shoulder as
- 39:39Speaker 4: you know, Well, I'm gonna take because he already said
- 39:40Speaker 4: like if your coaches in the NFL, I forget the
- 39:42Speaker 4: exact quote, but I'm going to coach post on kids.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Multiple, Well, a whole lot to Peter.
- 39:50Speaker 1: You're on the Insiders Show seven pm Eastern day.
- 39:53Speaker 2: You do awesome work. I really love you.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And also free agency next week is going to be
- 39:57Speaker 1: probably world of wall for you.
- 39:59Speaker 2: What's the schedule.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we're Monday to when we start on Sunday. We've
- 40:02Speaker 3: got free agency frenzy Monday. I believe all day Tuesday,
- 40:05Speaker 3: all day you're joining actual You better be joining us
- 40:07Speaker 3: for this coverage we need.
- 40:08Speaker 2: They don't. They don't ask me.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I'm asking you, Peter. I'm gonna massage.
- 40:12Speaker 2: What can I offer?
- 40:14Speaker 1: I'll offer you a couple a couple of nuggets here
- 40:16Speaker 1: and there that I get.
- 40:17Speaker 2: But you guys got it pretty good, you Tom.
- 40:19Speaker 3: And you got more than you let on, Peter. We
- 40:21Speaker 3: all know that. We all know that.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Here's my here's my question though.
- 40:24Speaker 1: The Sunday show is just to Sun to set the
- 40:28Speaker 1: table and then Monday they can actually legally tamper. But
- 40:33Speaker 1: we usually know come that legally, like that's when we
- 40:36Speaker 1: start firing off. The sources indicate they have intentions to sign.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, you can reach a verbal agreement. They changed that.
- 40:41Speaker 4: The NFL kind of sort of did this and said, well,
- 40:44Speaker 4: we're tampering.
- 40:44Speaker 3: So we're going to open up a legal window where
- 40:46Speaker 3: you can talk.
- 40:47Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, during that period they
- 40:49Speaker 4: were having negotiations and finalizing deals. So the NFL said, well,
- 40:52Speaker 4: we're just going to make that the point at which
- 40:54Speaker 4: you can talk and finalized deals.
- 40:56Speaker 5: So what time is that? That's twelve eastern Monday, So
- 40:59Speaker 5: so Wednesday moved up to Monday. It's yeah, I think
- 41:01Speaker 5: it's twelve eastern on Monday. So basically now it's like, well,
- 41:04Speaker 5: they tamper ahead of the tampering window, so it's like
- 41:07Speaker 5: it just all it did was move it up a
- 41:09Speaker 5: couple of days.
- 41:10Speaker 4: But I remember our coverage the first year when they
- 41:13Speaker 4: did this, they were stunned by the number of deals.
- 41:16Speaker 4: We weren't wall to wall. And then the next year
- 41:19Speaker 4: it was like, well we got to be you know,
- 41:20Speaker 4: on for twelve hours.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Well, i'll tell you what it was.
- 41:23Speaker 1: It was we didn't know how it's going to go
- 41:24Speaker 1: down because I was a part of it. Monday and Tuesday,
- 41:26Speaker 1: every deal is down, and then Wednesday, every deal is
- 41:28Speaker 1: already done.
- 41:29Speaker 2: And it was like, welcome to Fridge.
- 41:30Speaker 1: And.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so we adjusted our coverage here, So give.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Me your favorite free agent, like a guy that you know,
- 41:38Speaker 1: you got this whole list of Fridge. I'm gonna give
- 41:40Speaker 1: you my guy who I think is one of my
- 41:41Speaker 1: favorite players in the NFL that I don't know what
- 41:43Speaker 1: his market is, but I can't wait to see how
- 41:44Speaker 1: it works out.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Who's yours?
- 41:45Speaker 3: Are we going under the radar? Are we got either one?
- 41:48Speaker 4: You could say whoever you want, Like, like, Milton Williams
- 41:51Speaker 4: is fascinating to me, and I think he's gonna make
- 41:53Speaker 4: a ton of money as a defensive tackle.
- 41:56Speaker 1: My favorite player on the Chiefs for multiple I think
- 41:58Speaker 1: Nick Bolton being a free agent is fascinating.
- 42:00Speaker 2: You're watching that guy he's a scud missile. I think
- 42:02Speaker 2: he's great, and.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I don't know, linebackers don't make the money that they
- 42:05Speaker 1: used to make. But like, I just some curiously where
- 42:08Speaker 1: he ends up because so many times these chiefs guys
- 42:11Speaker 1: and it'd rather be Wally Gay or Lagarious need to
- 42:13Speaker 1: end up on these crap teams and they just go
- 42:15Speaker 1: vanish into the night. And it's like, well they got
- 42:17Speaker 1: the money, and like we're happy for him, but like,
- 42:19Speaker 1: where does Nick Bolton go? Because that guy I only
- 42:21Speaker 1: I only picture him playing in huge games.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I mean, it's not it's not a sexy club.
- 42:29Speaker 4: The draft and free agency is kind of bl Yeah,
- 42:32Speaker 4: I'm here, but no, we're gonna we're gonna do it
- 42:35Speaker 4: like Nick Westbrook. Akine is an interesting one right here
- 42:39Speaker 4: touchdowns last year?
- 42:40Speaker 3: Like is that guy gonna hit big?
- 42:42Speaker 4: And uh, who's I'll give you my sleeper free agent?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Who's who's the Who's the guy?
- 42:48Speaker 4: Uh that I was being told is going to actually
- 42:52Speaker 4: surprise people in the edge.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Let's you up over under on this?
- 42:57Speaker 3: You want to do it over under?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Well, because I'm like money wise, Yeah, okay, Well I
- 43:01Speaker 1: don't know because the new salary cap, it's talk going
- 43:03Speaker 1: to be bunched up. I'll never forget. I I forget
- 43:07Speaker 1: what year was it. There was a guy and it
- 43:09Speaker 1: was like we all were just like what, like what, Oh?
- 43:12Speaker 3: It was the Wide It was.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Sammy Watkins making what he got from the Chiefs that
- 43:17Speaker 1: year is probably twenty seventeen, and it came out of
- 43:20Speaker 1: nowhere and Sammy Watkins got this massive deal from the Chiefs.
- 43:23Speaker 2: So we were like, yeah, I guess that's it.
- 43:25Speaker 6: So so the one guy that I was somebody mentioned
- 43:28Speaker 6: this to me, Doe o' dangbo from the Colts, that
- 43:33Speaker 6: this guy's gonna make a ton of money.
- 43:35Speaker 2: And this is not this is not his agent telling
- 43:37Speaker 2: you this.
- 43:37Speaker 3: No, No, that's what you know.
- 43:40Speaker 4: When it's the agent, it's like, all right, you take
- 43:42Speaker 4: it with you take it with a grain of salt.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Here.
- 43:44Speaker 3: But I don't even know if a dio Doe, Let's okay,
- 43:48Speaker 3: Dao dang bo.
- 43:49Speaker 4: If that dude makes a ton of money, I will
- 43:51Speaker 4: tip my cap to the person that told me that.
- 43:52Speaker 4: But Patrick Jones from the Vikings is the guy that
- 43:55Speaker 4: I heard that.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Patrick Jones, not Daniel Patrick.
- 43:58Speaker 4: Patrick Jones from the Vikings, not Daniel Jones. Yeah, who
- 44:02Speaker 4: makes more money? Patrick or Daniel Jones? Still finish?
- 44:07Speaker 2: Put a pull up?
- 44:08Speaker 1: Who makes more a free agency Daniel Jones or Patrick Jones.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Daniel Jones or Patrick Jones or Patrick Jones from the
- 44:13Speaker 4: Vikings from what I heard is gonna have a lot
- 44:15Speaker 4: of interest. Is a guy that can show they can
- 44:16Speaker 4: do a bunch of different things, and that.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Guy could surprise people. So there you go. There's my
- 44:20Speaker 3: there's my free agent.
- 44:21Speaker 1: All right, everybody tune into NFL Network and when Patrick
- 44:25Speaker 1: Jones gets drafted, tweet me and Mike it's at Mike
- 44:28Speaker 1: Garafalo on Twitter.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Yeah you know, I love it, Thanks for joining.
- 44:32Speaker 3: You got it the off season with Peter Schrager.
- 44:36Speaker 7: Appreciate you, dude. All right, So that's Mike Garatfollo.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I bring on Aaron wan Kaufman, my co host, who's
- 44:50Speaker 1: about to be on vacation for a couple of weeks
- 44:52Speaker 1: before we get to all the free agency frenzy and
- 44:54Speaker 1: all that. Your reaction, give me one thought on on
- 44:57Speaker 1: either a A Jordan Schultz, who is an NFL insider
- 45:01Speaker 1: altercation with Ian Rappaport in front of a Starbucks.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Jordan's dad is the former CEO Starbucks.
- 45:07Speaker 1: You can't write the script any better or any of
- 45:09Speaker 1: the quarterback stuff we heard. I know you've got a
- 45:14Speaker 1: view of this stuff that's different than us who live
- 45:16Speaker 1: and breathe it and are in all these conversations. You
- 45:18Speaker 1: kind of look at it as voice of the fan,
- 45:20Speaker 1: but also an educated fan.
- 45:22Speaker 2: What are your thoughts?
- 45:23Speaker 8: I'll I'll give you two. First, on the Schultz Rappaport thing.
- 45:27Speaker 8: I loved your take that rap Port should have seen
- 45:30Speaker 8: if he could have gotten a you know, go go
- 45:32Speaker 8: to Caribou Coffee, get it, get an endorsement or something there.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not an ambulance chaser, but pardon me.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Thought take a punch and this thing is totally different.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Like Instigator, This is a different story if you take
- 45:44Speaker 1: a nice little sucker punch to the face and it's
- 45:46Speaker 1: on camera.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I mean, come on.
- 45:48Speaker 8: I also wonder how many other times I don't know
- 45:52Speaker 8: anything about Jordan Schultz, how many other people has he
- 45:54Speaker 8: tried to intimidate at a Starbucks.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I honestly think Jordan's a nice pacifist Like this was
- 46:01Speaker 1: very specific, and the backstory is Jordan had a report
- 46:04Speaker 1: on Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady and Ian's tweet about
- 46:07Speaker 1: that report was so dismissive that even I said who
- 46:11Speaker 1: he called it like an erroneous internet rumor and clarified it.
- 46:14Speaker 1: And then this was like, Hey, you're gonna talk smack,
- 46:16Speaker 1: let's let's talk in person.
- 46:17Speaker 8: And this is the Stafford is visiting Brady's house in Montana.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Let me break let me break this down for us
- 46:23Speaker 1: because I don't live in this one percent world, but
- 46:25Speaker 1: a lot of these football players do. Here's the deal.
- 46:28Speaker 1: There's something called the Yellowstone Club. It's a Melman property,
- 46:31Speaker 1: It's Discovery Land, It's this whole thing, and this is
- 46:33Speaker 1: where it is. Justin Bieber has one of these places,
- 46:37Speaker 1: you know, I mean, Gretzky is one of these places.
- 46:39Speaker 2: When you're uber uber, uber, uber wealthy, you can.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Pay for a home and with the home comes all
- 46:44Speaker 1: the amenities you could imagine.
- 46:45Speaker 2: It's basically, you live on one of the nicest golf
- 46:47Speaker 2: courses in the world. You have a.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Comfort station, you have amazing kids activities like These properties
- 46:53Speaker 1: are insane and they're all inclusive, and you buy one
- 46:56Speaker 1: of the homes for a crazy amount of money and
- 46:58Speaker 1: you just have a place to go where there's no
- 47:00Speaker 1: paparazzi allowed, and there's something. So Tom Brady has one
- 47:03Speaker 1: in Montana at the Yellowstone Club. Guess who else does
- 47:06Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford. So they both were there at the same
- 47:09Speaker 1: time and they talked, and that happens. You can have
- 47:12Speaker 1: a conversation. Jordan's tweet positioned it as Brady, the owner
- 47:16Speaker 1: of the Raiders, hosted Stafford and they had not, and
- 47:19Speaker 1: then Ian was just basically like, that's wrong, that you
- 47:21Speaker 1: don't get it, and then Jordan didn't like how that
- 47:23Speaker 1: was positioned. You add in the fact that he's the
- 47:25Speaker 1: son of the Starbucks CEO, you add him the fact
- 47:27Speaker 1: that he's got this Fox Sports label. I'm not sure
- 47:29Speaker 1: his role at Fox Sports or what that means part time,
- 47:32Speaker 1: full time, but you add in that and that Brady's
- 47:35Speaker 1: the number one highest paid person at Fox Sports, and
- 47:38Speaker 1: there's all these different sorts of like, well, wait, I'm confused,
- 47:41Speaker 1: is he Fox?
- 47:43Speaker 2: Is he gat this from Brady?
- 47:44Speaker 1: So that was that, But yes, Caribou Coffee could be
- 47:48Speaker 1: a really nice deal for Ian Rappaport if he wants
- 47:50Speaker 1: to go down that road.
- 47:51Speaker 8: And then on the quarterbacks, I was not expecting that
- 47:54Speaker 8: much discussing On, Carson wentz of all people, right, the
- 47:58Speaker 8: idea that he could get another starting gig, that's that's amazing.
- 48:01Speaker 8: To think of his transition we run. Yeah, to think
- 48:04Speaker 8: of how he kind of lost in Philadelphia, I mean,
- 48:08Speaker 8: that's not offensive. Everyone knows he lost the name Jalen Hurts.
- 48:11Speaker 8: And to think that he could possibly get another gig
- 48:14Speaker 8: that one surprised me. I was not expecting that name.
- 48:17Speaker 8: I feel like, you know, heard the Jimmy g talk already,
- 48:20Speaker 8: and also excited to see what the Colts do. I'm
- 48:23Speaker 8: not not like a Colts fan or anything, but the
- 48:25Speaker 8: mystique of Anthony Richardson continues to live, and so it
- 48:29Speaker 8: would be great to see him really do well and
- 48:33Speaker 8: get a quarterback that can kind of take him under
- 48:36Speaker 8: their wing and help him get to what we all.
- 48:40Speaker 8: I remember that his draft night and how exciting it
- 48:44Speaker 8: was he got drafted, and I was with someone who
- 48:46Speaker 8: was a Colts fan, and I was like, you must
- 48:48Speaker 8: be thrilled right now, and he.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Went forth overall bro Yeah, and then but once you
- 48:53Speaker 1: tap out of a game, I know it sounds so
- 48:55Speaker 1: superficial and so manly, and like people see that. I
- 48:58Speaker 1: don't think he's made the developments that necessarily and he's
- 49:00Speaker 1: been injured a bunch, you know, he's got the shoulder
- 49:02Speaker 1: injury and all this stuff.
- 49:03Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 49:03Speaker 1: So it's just like just they brought in Flaco to
- 49:06Speaker 1: compete with them, and they went back and forth and
- 49:08Speaker 1: then we'll see if But if I'm Daniel Jones, then
- 49:10Speaker 1: I know they already is a guy there.
- 49:11Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm signing with the Colts.
- 49:13Speaker 1: If I'm Daniel Jones, I think the Browns is more attractive,
- 49:16Speaker 1: or if there's another team that's willing to let me
- 49:18Speaker 1: compete for the starting job and I think I can
- 49:21Speaker 1: win it, like that might be better off. So the
- 49:22Speaker 1: Colts were the early team that was mentioned, but I
- 49:24Speaker 1: don't think. Look, I don't know what the market is
- 49:27Speaker 1: for Daniel Jones, but if there's another team, I think
- 49:30Speaker 1: he'd be willing to talk to them too.
- 49:32Speaker 2: The teams that interested me.
- 49:33Speaker 1: The most Jets and Raiders, because they don't have a
- 49:35Speaker 1: draft pick that's high enough to just like just say, okay,
- 49:38Speaker 1: we'll just take one of the top two. They might
- 49:40Speaker 1: both be gone, and they're so tortured at that position,
- 49:44Speaker 1: and they've got new brass coming in so like, I
- 49:47Speaker 1: don't know, I do like what I suggested, and we'll
- 49:49Speaker 1: see if it could happen that like Chip Kelly, Tom
- 49:53Speaker 1: Brady and Pete Carroll go to Seattle and they're like
- 49:56Speaker 1: Gino Smith to the Raiders and let's compete.
- 49:58Speaker 2: I don't know, we'll see.
- 50:00Speaker 8: That's another one that I really I really like that
- 50:03Speaker 8: Geno discussion.
- 50:04Speaker 1: But he's under contract, he's got a free so it's like, yeah,
- 50:09Speaker 1: Rogers to the Giants. I still think it's very possible.
- 50:12Speaker 1: I know people have put all this damp water on it.
- 50:14Speaker 1: They're like, you know, he can't. I could see it.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I could see Rogers to the Giants, and I could
- 50:19Speaker 1: see that happening in both sides being like, let's f
- 50:21Speaker 1: the world, let's go do this and let's prove people wrong.
- 50:25Speaker 8: Yeah, it'd be interesting to see him in that stadium.
- 50:28Speaker 8: Oh wait, we just got a season that we just
- 50:30Speaker 8: got that. Yes, it could could be fun. I mean,
- 50:33Speaker 8: as much as I hate to admit it, he wasn't
- 50:35Speaker 8: horrible last year. He wasn't He played some good games
- 50:38Speaker 8: at the end, especially with DeVante Adams. I don't know
- 50:40Speaker 8: if Adams is gonna go back to stay on the
- 50:44Speaker 8: East coast or if he wants to go to the
- 50:46Speaker 8: West coast. But it could be interesting with him on
- 50:49Speaker 8: the Raiders, I mean sorry, with him on the Giants.
- 50:51Speaker 8: I was just thinking. I texted one of my friends
- 50:53Speaker 8: is a huge Giants fan a couple of days ago
- 50:56Speaker 8: about the possibility of Rogers going to the Giants, and
- 50:59Speaker 8: he was very upset.
- 51:01Speaker 1: He just I think all the Giants fans are down
- 51:03Speaker 1: on this, Like, there's not one Giants fan who wants
- 51:05Speaker 1: the Jets. Like the Jets, it's got rid of Rogers.
- 51:07Speaker 1: No Giants fan wants the Jets leftovers and like what
- 51:10Speaker 1: they dismissed. But it's a different deal. It's a different deal,
- 51:14Speaker 1: all right, Aaron, enjoy some time off. I'll probably be
- 51:17Speaker 1: back on next week with some free agency stuff once
- 51:19Speaker 1: that starts flying off. But the season with Peter Schrager
- 51:22Speaker 1: continues to roll on. And hey guys, we're back. It's
- 51:26Speaker 1: the off season. It's when we're at our best. Combine awesome.
- 51:29Speaker 1: No fights for me. I just hung in the pocket
- 51:32Speaker 1: and do what I do and just trying to get
- 51:33Speaker 1: through unscathed.
- 51:35Speaker 9: Thanks for listening to everybody.
- 51:55Speaker 1: The season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
