Latest / Lisa & Russell / The Shaw Report - It's All Put Ed Sheeran And His Promoters In A Difficult Position
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: The Sure Report.
- 0:06Speaker 2: When someone big is on tour, as you know, they
- 0:09Speaker 2: often have a couple of opening acts. You know, when
- 0:11Speaker 2: we saw Ed Sheeran earlier this year, he had Vance Joy,
- 0:14Speaker 2: he had someone before Vance Joy. And now Ed Sheeran's
- 0:18Speaker 2: first opening act on the current tour. Aaron Rowe has
- 0:22Speaker 2: announced he is dropping out of the tour as well
- 0:25Speaker 2: to stand in solidarity with Macklemore, who was pulled from
- 0:28Speaker 2: the tour because of his comments on stage supporting Palestine.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Aaron took to social media writing, I have made the
- 0:35Speaker 2: decision to withdraw as a support act on Ed Sheeran's tour.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I don't take the decision lightly. Ed has changed my life.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I could never thank him enough for this. However, as
- 0:46Speaker 2: Irish people, he's Irish, we know all too well about genocide,
- 0:50Speaker 2: forced famine and violent occupation. I cannot stand by and
- 0:53Speaker 2: allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence others. Now,
- 0:57Speaker 2: by billionaires, By billionaires, he means the stadium owners threatening
- 1:02Speaker 2: to cancel Ed's shows if he didn't drop Macklemore. It's
- 1:05Speaker 2: all put Ed Sheeran and his promoters in a very
- 1:08Speaker 2: difficult position, which is why I suppose it all comes
- 1:11Speaker 2: down to a question of time and place for people
- 1:14Speaker 2: to express their thoughts on these things. It's a tough
- 1:17Speaker 2: one because I'm all for free speech, but I'm an adult.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm not at these shows with my kids, and so,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, And also, just quietly, I love Macklemore.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Do you?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yes, I do. I do.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I couldn't name a song.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I can name a chant. I'll make you a mix.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I can name a chant that he does, but not...
- 1:37Speaker 2: I'll make you a mix tape.
- 1:38Speaker 1: No, don't.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Don't.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 1:43Speaker 2: You know what else I love?
- 1:44Speaker 1: What do you love?
- 1:45Speaker 2: I love a good documentary. And in my humble opinion,
- 1:48Speaker 2: the greatest documentary of all time is the 7 Up series.
- 1:53Speaker 2: the longest-running documentary project in television history following the lives
- 1:57Speaker 2: of 14 British children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, every seven
- 2:02Speaker 2: years checking in with them since 1964. There's Nicholas.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And Tony, Andrew and Bruce, John, Susie, Jackie and her friend.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Give me a child until he is seven and I
- 2:19Speaker 1: will give you the man.
- 2:22Speaker 2: An old Jesuit saying, I believe, that one.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Doesn't that sound 1964? That's very 64. Very 64. Well,
- 2:29Speaker 2: the very final instalment is now just around the corner.
- 2:33Speaker 2: The two-part 70 Up will premiere on SBS on October 7,
- 2:39Speaker 2: and we are being warned to brace ourselves for some
- 2:42Speaker 2: pretty emotional moments. One of our favourites dies just days
- 2:46Speaker 2: after filming their final interview. I'm not saying who. I
- 2:49Speaker 2: already made the mistake of reading too much. Of course,
- 2:52Speaker 2: 7 Up was made by director Michael Apted. He revisited
- 2:55Speaker 2: the group every seven years, and it's been utterly fascinating.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Michael died in 2021, though, at which point documentary maker
- 3:03Speaker 2: Asif Kapadia came on board to produce this one final chapter.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Don't call me that night on October 7. I won't
- 3:09Speaker 2: be answering the phone. 70 Up. What a nice number
- 3:13Speaker 2: to round it. That's the number to end it on.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It makes sense. Some exciting concert news for us this morning.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Madness are coming back to Perth. They're all abroad for
- 3:23Speaker 2: the Madness Hip Parade Tour. They'll be at the Frio
- 3:25Speaker 2: Foreshore on Saturday, February 27. Tickets are at handsometours.com. Pre-sales
- 3:30Speaker 2: next Wednesday and general tickets go on sale at 9am
- 3:34Speaker 2: next Thursday. Who's the support?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Not Macklemore, I hope.
- 3:38Speaker 2: He's looking for a gig. And while we're on the
- 3:41Speaker 2: subject of shows being lined up for Perth, another announcement
- 3:45Speaker 2: this morning. Grammy award-winning producer. Oh, I'm going to have
- 3:49Speaker 2: to explain this one to Russell as well. Grammy award-winning
- 3:52Speaker 2: producer DJ Calvin Harris. Calvin Harris. Doesn't he make underwear? No,
- 3:56Speaker 2: that's Calvin Klein.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh, damn.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Calvin Harris is touring Down Under for the very first
- 4:02Speaker 2: time and he's kicking things off at Langley Park. The
- 4:06Speaker 2: show is on February 18. It's a Thursday. Pre-sale for
- 4:11Speaker 2: tickets start midday next Wednesday through Live Nation. This might
- 4:16Speaker 2: surprise you. I've heard of him. Calvin Harris is awesome. Madness.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Ice House. Radiohead, of course, and for those wondering, I
- 4:23Speaker 2: got my tickets. There was this sigh of relief through
- 4:28Speaker 2: the entire building yesterday when Lisa went, I got tickets!
- 4:32Speaker 2: And everyone, oh, thank God for that. I was waiting
- 4:34Speaker 2: in a queue that had 27,649 people ahead of me.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It was fun.
