Latest / gasp! the pod / taylor swift canceling herself feat. sidney bg

- 0:00I started noticing the trend where it's like every time we
- 0:03clowned really hard for rap. What did she do?
- 0:06She played maroon. That's what all of you guys get.
- 0:09Talk about gamers all you want to, but you, you guys can come
- 0:12for me the moment you get rap TV.
- 0:14It was like the one thing that Swifty is wanted and so now
- 0:21people don't clown for anything Taylor Swift anymore.
- 0:23They only just clown for Tavis. You're not a Gaylor.
- 0:26What do you clown for now? You only clown for a wedding.
- 0:29Like do you guys care about any new music she puts out or is it
- 0:34just a wedding? Hello guys, welcome back to GAS
- 0:48the Pod, the podcast for the gays, the girls, the gay girls,
- 0:51and welcome back one of my favorite guests of all time.
- 0:54We had to have him on again, Sydney Baker Green, and thank
- 0:57you so much for coming on again. Wait, what?
- 1:01How's that too? Like Travis Kelsey, I'm like.
- 1:04What is the situation today? First of all, I have a janky set
- 1:07up and Sydney has the most professional setup of all time.
- 1:10I am in a hotel motel room in Los Angeles and that's why this
- 1:16looks bad. But that's the nature of an
- 1:19indie podcast. You guys, obviously me and
- 1:22Sydney dab offline as well. We decided to do another online
- 1:25conversation because we have some things to say.
- 1:28Sydney has some things to say. It's going to be another Gaylor
- 1:31State of the union pretty much. We need to check in and
- 1:33especially with the fact that Eris tour final show, Taylor
- 1:38Swift documentary end of an era docu series will be released in
- 1:44by the time this is this episode comes out, it'll come out in the
- 1:47next week. So this is perfect timing for us
- 1:49to get our theories and and also talk everything performance
- 1:53Artler and Gaylor, etcetera. So Sydney, how are you?
- 1:56In in the gaylor world or just in general?
- 1:58You know however, however you want to take the question.
- 2:01Honestly, in the Gaylor world, I'm like kicking my feet up and
- 2:05laughing. I I, I listen to the life of a
- 2:08showgirl and I just start busting out laughing.
- 2:11This album itself, I think it's funny.
- 2:13We can get into more of that later.
- 2:14But yeah, that like I have been doing pretty good.
- 2:17I cannot complain. It's winter, a lot of creative
- 2:20stuff going on. Lock And do you feel like you
- 2:22are one of the most refreshing voices in the Gaylord scene and
- 2:27even just like pop culture Taylor Swift?
- 2:29Because whenever I feel myself straying from or like doubting
- 2:34and have those like seeds of doubt and like letting like
- 2:37mainstream Swifties maybe like get into my brain a little bit
- 2:41too much, I will get like a FaceTime call or like a voice
- 2:44memo from you. And it's just like a maniacal
- 2:45laugh. And I'm like, thank God, just
- 2:49like. Like this stuff is just it's
- 2:53just comical. And then, Oh my God, what's
- 2:55their names? The the two people who are like
- 2:58the living definition of just because you have a platform
- 3:01doesn't mean you need a microphone.
- 3:03The Swift watch Taylor watch, Taylor watch Taylor watch.
- 3:06Yes, even they were getting so close to the point where they're
- 3:09like, you know, it seems almost like, you know, I think the
- 3:13wedding dress is going to be Ralph Lauren.
- 3:15Like it's almost like they have a partnership.
- 3:17No, no, no, no, there's no way that they like there's just a
- 3:22really like close business friendship type situation.
- 3:27But she's not she's not partnered with Ralph Lauren as
- 3:31they like talk about literally the perfect photo op with the
- 3:35Ralph Lauren bag. And then I was laughing because
- 3:37I think that post found the wrong side of TikTok because
- 3:41there was it did, it was so funny.
- 3:44Like people were like, every time she's in there, she's
- 3:47clocked in. She's like, and I'm like, oh.
- 3:49Yeah, when I checked the comments of that, I was like,
- 3:51maybe this this TikTok like slipped through the cracks for
- 3:55them or maybe they just don't have as many listeners as they
- 3:58think. Because I was like, why is this
- 4:00a Gaylord video right now? Like people.
- 4:03I mean, it is so funny when you are trying to defend someone for
- 4:09being the most perfect version of how you think they are.
- 4:13In your mind, you're going to become someone that looks stupid
- 4:17because you are watching someone so obviously brand themselves
- 4:23and you. Who's not on Taylor's bankroll,
- 4:26by the way, are just like out here being like, no, they had to
- 4:30go to Ralph Lauren because like, it's a good place to go in the
- 4:33winter. Like what are you talk?
- 4:35Why are you doing this? Are you tree pain?
- 4:38Why are you doing this? That last time I remember, her
- 4:41favorite place to go in the winter is that restaurant
- 4:44underneath Karlie Kloss's apartment.
- 4:45But, And that's why I really, really love this album.
- 4:50And I feel like, like we were talking, we were talking about
- 4:53earlier, how I feel like everybody has collectively lost
- 4:56the plot for a minute, whether your performance aren't there.
- 5:00And I mean, some people are coming back to center.
- 5:01There's some people I need to talk to, but some people are
- 5:04coming back and and getting a grip.
- 5:06And then like mainstream had lost the plot for a minute.
- 5:08But it's just a prime example of how when you try to have your
- 5:13projections on to somebody, it makes you look stupid.
- 5:16Wish list is the funniest song to me.
- 5:19Wish list is my new Roman Empire because on face at face value,
- 5:25well, at first of all, at face value, it's the weakest love
- 5:27song of the world because she says, I just want you have a
- 5:32it's got the whole block looking like you.
- 5:34So doesn't even try to rhyme you with anything else.
- 5:37Says we want the world to leave us the F alone if they do.
- 5:41And then she's like, wow, That's like, first of all, wow.
- 5:48When I was watching, when I was like listening to this album
- 5:51live for the first time, that's why I lost it.
- 5:54Like it just became so obvious that this is like literally
- 5:59either she got a lobotomy or this is so clearly satire
- 6:02because we're all acting like we don't have memories.
- 6:06I'm so sick of people being like, guys, It's just such a
- 6:09simplistic love song because all she wants is him.
- 6:14I'm like, have you guys ever listened to Taylor Swift before?
- 6:18Ever heard Reputation? And I'm just like, this girl can
- 6:21really write a love song when she wants to, right?
- 6:24And it just makes me laugh, though, because, again, just
- 6:26going back to wishlist for a second.
- 6:28First of all, she's never told the world to leave them alone.
- 6:30She refused to give them an American football reference.
- 6:33Why Real Madrid caught a stray, I don't know, but.
- 6:38What was up with that? Anyways, like Oh my God, this is
- 6:41just like such a sweet song. The fact that she released it on
- 6:44Travis's birth and I'm like are y'all missing how every single S
- 6:50including the S in kids is a dollar sign?
- 6:54Right it literally and Elizabeth Taylor she contradicts that's
- 6:58all the statements that she's saying in wish list.
- 7:00She's like I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust.
- 7:03Just kidding, just kidding. No, truly I but I just want to
- 7:06take a real Hitler because I've never met them in real life and
- 7:10take them and shake them and be like please tell me how that
- 7:13makes sense because it's directly contradicting the
- 7:16other. Which one is she lying about?
- 7:19Just Kidding is also my Roman Empire.
- 7:22And it's funny because in that song she's like Elizabeth
- 7:24Taylor. Do you think it's forever?
- 7:26The answer is chemically no. It was indeed not forever.
- 7:31It was very like, what was it, a marriage a year for like 7 years
- 7:34or something like that? Or like like clockwork.
- 7:38And the fact that they're seeing like Laura Dern come back and
- 7:41say no, yeah, she's Easter egging me.
- 7:43I'm just so happy to be a part of this.
- 7:44The fact that you see Queen Pat coming out here being like the
- 7:47Bejeweled music video is the teaser to the Showgirl era,
- 7:50which again, Gayla is a performance artless if you're
- 7:53losing your crap clock in. Or the fact that she said when
- 7:56she's when I said I didn't want marriage, she never said she
- 7:59didn't believe in marriage. She said no to Joe leaving him
- 8:03Crespo on the landing or whoever she was writing about.
- 8:06And she said no to the 1950s shit they want from me.
- 8:10She never said that she didn't want to be married.
- 8:14I'm sorry, I'm going on a soap. Opera No, no, this is what this
- 8:16is for. Literally, this album is truly
- 8:22the manifestation of the lies and of the performance of her
- 8:27life. And I really think either you're
- 8:30paying attention or you're not. And again, like for people that
- 8:33don't care to pay attention to like celebrities in there and
- 8:38all of this, like that's not your thing.
- 8:40But don't act like you do pay attention and then excuse
- 8:44everything because like it is so in your face.
- 8:48And I don't know how people I don't see, I mean, she has done
- 8:52multiple interviews. She's saying that like this
- 8:56album, she goes in and out of character in the album.
- 9:00She's in the character of a showgirl.
- 9:02It it doesn't make any sense if you think that this this album
- 9:06is about her real life and then she's saying that she is a
- 9:11showgirl. Like true, truly, it doesn't
- 9:14make any sense. So I totally agree.
- 9:16Like this is the most performance artler we could have
- 9:18gotten. And anyone that is a performance
- 9:21artler, don't lose your yeah, don't lose your craft.
- 9:25Because if anything, this is like the manifestation of it.
- 9:28It's like the double Downing on everything.
- 9:31And even though that's kind of like disheartening, if you like,
- 9:34think that this is the real her, the whole point is that this,
- 9:37this isn't the real her. We, I want to get, I want to say
- 9:40something before, sure, before we actually have to have the
- 9:44State of the Union. You aren't.
- 9:45You're so correct. And this is the look behind
- 9:48like, you know what my life was like on the Eras Tour.
- 9:51And in the ending trap, she says you don't want to know the life
- 9:55of a showgirl and you're never, ever gonna play it in their face
- 9:59pain hidden by the lipstick and lace sequins are forever.
- 10:03How is she happy again? Everyone's like, where's the
- 10:06heiress tour song? Where's the song talking about
- 10:09the heiress tour and performing? You know what I mean?
- 10:12Because everyone's like, oh, I'm missing that aspect.
- 10:15The entire album is that Taylor Swift has done this amazing
- 10:20thing that truly, if you don't look past and it honestly goes
- 10:23beyond Gaylor a certain lens, you're going to miss it is that
- 10:27she puts in a lot of different songs about many different
- 10:30things and uses a romantic like Muse as the way to communicate
- 10:36that message. Because she knows it's kind of
- 10:38like Sara Bareilles's love love song that she has to give them a
- 10:42love song. She needs to give people the
- 10:43love song she wants to write about other things in her life.
- 10:46She did that with the greatest, the smallest man, whoever lived.
- 10:50Everyone was like, that's Maddie Healey.
- 10:53That's Maddie Healey. And it's the one time where I'm
- 10:55going to be like, no, actually, that is about Scooter Braun.
- 10:58Do you are you guys listening? This album is about her public
- 11:03life. It's not about Travis.
- 11:05It's like if you think about things for more than one second
- 11:07and take away the romantic muse, it just makes a lot more sense.
- 11:12Like this whole album is talking about her performing and being a
- 11:14showgirl and like giving the people what they want and like
- 11:18going in and out of character. Giving them what they want is so
- 11:21important too because when I heard the lyrics to these this
- 11:24album, I'm like oh this is a Hitler.
- 11:27All in my comment section every single comment that I've gotten
- 11:31from a Hitler is a lyric it is out sometimes word for word have
- 11:36a couple kids settle down I. Truly think.
- 11:40I truly think she went through comments and like copy and
- 11:44paste. Yeah, because.
- 11:47When last time we came on the podcast, we talked about this
- 11:49too, how disgusting Hitler's can be.
- 11:51And I say Hitler's because I do think the majority of like
- 11:54Swifties are like kind of normal and like maybe just aren't so
- 11:59insane. Like the reason why I think
- 12:02there's so much of A Hitler Gaylor feud is because Hitler's
- 12:07get into my business. I don't even care what you
- 12:10think, just leave me the fuck alone and let me have my own
- 12:14theories. Like leaving the fuck alone But
- 12:16they say the grossest fucking shit about her getting Dick
- 12:20down. And I think Taylor saw these
- 12:22comments, copy and pasted them and put them in wood because she
- 12:27literally wrote an album with the lyrics that people had
- 12:31already written in comments and that's why it took 2 seconds to
- 12:34make this album. Exactly, and that's why it feels
- 12:37like it took 2 seconds to make this album.
- 12:39Right. And that's why the lyrics aren't
- 12:41good, because they're not her her lyrics.
- 12:44Yeah. And I guess we can kind of start
- 12:46transitioning into how it's like, you know, gaylors who have
- 12:49lost the plot and performance artlers who have lost the plot
- 12:52and are starting to fall for like who are who are holding 2
- 12:56conflicting thoughts of I think this is a performance, but I
- 13:00also think this is Taylor because it's going against what
- 13:04I'm comfortable with. And This is why I'm friends with
- 13:07you, because it's so important to be reminded because I
- 13:10sometimes lose the plot. And then it's like, if Taylor,
- 13:14because she is, is living all of her life in order to be liked,
- 13:21to have a certain vision of herself, why would she stop that
- 13:25now? Like a lot of people are Like,
- 13:26would she really lie about all these things she's been dimming
- 13:30in her whole career? Why would this be a line that
- 13:33she wouldn't cross? I like 6 songs on the album.
- 13:36There's yeah. Listen to Oh, I listen to though
- 13:40I listen to The Fate of Ophelia. I listen to Father Figure.
- 13:44I listen to Actually Romantic. I listen to Cancelled is my
- 13:48girl. I've actually grown to like
- 13:51cancelled. Cancelled is my girl, cancelled
- 13:53is for Gaylors, and cancelled is probably also about Blake Lively
- 13:56even though I can't stand her. It's not about Brittany Mahomes
- 14:00and I don't know why people think it's about Brittany
- 14:02Mahomes. If you're a gayler or
- 14:03performance artler who thought that that was like a MAGA song,
- 14:06Baby Brittany Mahomes was never cancelled.
- 14:08She just wasn't liked. There is like my whiskey sour
- 14:12and poison thorny flowers toned, deaf and hot.
- 14:15Let's effing off her. Blake Lively, when she did the
- 14:18promo for It Ends With Us was dressed in all floorings.
- 14:22Yeah, it makes. Her whiskey brand to also
- 14:25promote this movie, which caused like a lot of backlash because
- 14:29alcohol and domestic violence don't mix well together, but
- 14:31like it makes the most sense to be about her.
- 14:33And then the last song is the life of showgirl.
- 14:36Now I do like I liked opalite in the beginning, but I think
- 14:41mainstream druin that song because they were trying to make
- 14:43the song about Kayla Nicole. And if you know, like you
- 14:46probably saw my tik toks where I was going in on everybody who
- 14:50was like, you know, have something to say about Kayla
- 14:53Nicole, because to me, it was just so disingenuous to sit here
- 14:56and act like you care about racism, that you care about
- 14:59ableism and that you care about homophobia when there's a large
- 15:02percentage of your fandoms swifties who do this thing to do
- 15:05these things to gaylors and the people of color on the Internet
- 15:08all the time. You cannot sit here and tell me
- 15:10you care about racism. When you guys came after CJ
- 15:12Gardner's restaurant? When you posted monkeys and T
- 15:15air tweeds Instagram comments like y'all can spare me with
- 15:18that for? Real.
- 15:20It is like they're so easy to set up because all I had to do
- 15:23was mention gaylors and all the homophobic ones came into the
- 15:25comments section and proved the point.
- 15:26Which then allowed me to start tagging the Sarahs and Hannahs
- 15:29who want to be like oh you're just excusing this because
- 15:32you're black. Which, excuse you, I just don't
- 15:34want to hear from the group of people who act like they care
- 15:36about homophobia and gave Jason Kelsey the epsilor pass like not
- 15:40even a year ago. And and that's the thing really,
- 15:45because it never is consistent because there are people that
- 15:49were like, I'm going to stay out of the Keela Nicole
- 15:51conversation. And then they saw her tweets and
- 15:54they were like, knew it. I knew it.
- 15:56I knew I had a reason to. I knew I had a reason to.
- 15:58And Travis, they have seen those since day one and they were like
- 16:05giving excuses left and fucking right.
- 16:07And it's just so inconsistent and it pisses me off.
- 16:10And if you're going to be inconsistent, maybe side with
- 16:13the non white man because. Kayla Nicole had heat for
- 16:16everybody. And I'm like, I like, I've read
- 16:20her tweets and I started laughing.
- 16:23I'm like, Dang, she really? That's not right.
- 16:26No, like, that's a little homophobic, Kayla.
- 16:28That's but I like the song OPA Light in the beginning, but I
- 16:33don't know, I kind of replaced that with Tony Braxton's.
- 16:36He wasn't man enough for me just because of the the the
- 16:41conversation around it, which we can talk about a little bit
- 16:43more, but I don't believe that song is about Kayla Nicole.
- 16:46And if that was thrown in there to make people think it was
- 16:48about Kayla Nicole, I think Kayla Nicole is on the payroll.
- 16:51I really do. Makes perfect sense.
- 16:54And if you people think that was about Kayla Nicole, I just have
- 16:58a question. Why?
- 16:59How come when you hear Onyx night or anything darkness or
- 17:02bad bitch and savage, you automatically think about a
- 17:04black woman? Maybe there's some things to
- 17:06unpack there. The Kayla Napole stuff, a lot of
- 17:11this like truly I just like watching being like like you
- 17:15were saying about her being on Taylor's payroll.
- 17:17You have to be delusional if you think there was not even bare
- 17:25minimum a conversation with Taylor and Kayla.
- 17:30The amount of PR that goes into Taylor pretty much talking with
- 17:35anyone. Why do we only hear people
- 17:37singing praises at Taylor? I think that she is a very nice
- 17:40person, probably alive. And I think that, like, you
- 17:44know, she is like lovely to me, but like, you're not hearing so
- 17:48many celebrities get leaks from everyone.
- 17:51Even if there was a stylist that she had 20 years ago that maybe
- 17:56thought that Taylor was annoying for at one point in time would
- 18:00have gone to any magazine at this point and would have been
- 18:03like, Taylor ordered a Subway sandwich and Bowen, she was a
- 18:06bitch. And she would get paid so much
- 18:08money for that story. The reason why we're not hearing
- 18:10random leaks, even if they're irrelevant, even if they're
- 18:13lies, is because she has her shit on lock.
- 18:17He is one of the only celebrities that we don't hear
- 18:19this stuff from. We hear from Ariana Grande, we
- 18:21hear it from Britney Spears. We hear from all of these like
- 18:24pop Queens of random little people just coming out of the
- 18:28woodwork and giving us details about that person's life.
- 18:31She ever said on lock. If you think that there has not
- 18:35been a conversation between Taylor's PR team and Kayla
- 18:39Nicole, whether it's in a positive way or whether it's
- 18:43shut the fuck up and we're going to sue your ass and like
- 18:47whatever it has been. If you think that Taylor decided
- 18:51to write this little lyric and just hope that Kayla didn't
- 18:54freak out about it, that didn't happen.
- 18:56Like this isn't like you starting to date someone and
- 19:00then their ex with high school Instagram posting about it.
- 19:03Like we, we take our own lives and we think that that's what's
- 19:06happening with them and it's just not.
- 19:09And it's like people like really didn't clock tea because two
- 19:12weeks before Kayla Nicole posted the outfit in homage to Toni
- 19:16Braxton, somebody commented and said you should dress up as Toni
- 19:19Braxton for Halloween as if that's not a setup.
- 19:22And when you think about it, it's like Swifties just really
- 19:24look dumb on the opposite end because Taylor has you fighting
- 19:28this battle and you are getting dog walked by the rest of the
- 19:30public. The rest of the public is like
- 19:33Swifty's versus everyone else, and they're out here fighting
- 19:35for their lives because the rest of the public is on Kayla
- 19:39Nicole's side. I really think what's so
- 19:41interesting about the whole Swifty conversation, it's just
- 19:44really emblematic of like the type of people you, the type of
- 19:47person you can be right now in the world.
- 19:50You can be someone that is defending someone you don't know
- 19:54over any other person. And even someone who has told
- 19:58you I don't need to be defended. Taylor has said.
- 20:02I don't need to be defended. I don't need you to be like
- 20:04protecting me. Like, I can do good.
- 20:06I don't worry about stuff on the Internet.
- 20:08You can spend your time so worried about her and like other
- 20:14people, or you can be a normal person and like, I just don't
- 20:18know how you're going to go out here thinking that like Kayla,
- 20:21Nicole. He's somehow this evil person
- 20:25for dressing up on Halloween and like being funny.
- 20:29Truly grow up. Truly grow up.
- 20:32It's a billionaire. Look at the power dynamic.
- 20:33Are you, are you kidding me? Because all of these situations
- 20:36that have come up, like Taylor Swift said, like our job as an
- 20:39entertainer to be a mirror, like you need to look into the mirror
- 20:41with how you feel. Like all of these things are
- 20:44like coming back up as is this you to the fandom.
- 20:47Like what's the fandom is getting back Is literally the
- 20:50biggest this you? There is something interesting
- 20:53that's going on surrounding this album and Taylor writing an
- 20:57album that is a complete departure over what she's done
- 21:00before, and it has only sparked these big conversations that she
- 21:04wants to spark, right? There's been a huge switch in
- 21:09the fandom, and not only in the fandom, but how she's perceived
- 21:11in the world. She has this reputation period,
- 21:14as we know, where she is struggling with her reputation.
- 21:18But since then, there is still like a victimhood placed on her
- 21:23that I don't necessarily think that she places on.
- 21:26Herself, she's not in a vacuum with this specifically, and I
- 21:30think it speaks a lot more to pop culture in general.
- 21:33Why are Beyoncé fans the same way?
- 21:36Why are Nicki Minaj fans the same way?
- 21:39I think part of it as to why Swifty's you know, if I had to
- 21:44give some benefit of the doubt to all of these fandoms, the one
- 21:47thing that I think all of them have in common is that at one
- 21:51point it was kind of cringy to like said artist.
- 21:57Now they're so famous and you have so many numbers, you get to
- 21:59be the bully back. And I think that's honestly
- 22:01what's happened with Swifties is that they take these
- 22:03opportunities, opportunities to flex and be bullies.
- 22:07All the comments are the same. They need to learn not to mess
- 22:09with Swifties. This is what happens when you
- 22:11mess with Swifties. We're going to cancel you.
- 22:14Like same things with Kayla, Nicole.
- 22:15If that's not bully culture, then what is?
- 22:18And so I think what's happened is that there's this, you know,
- 22:22I don't think it's really Taylor's fault if she came out
- 22:25in a press interview and said, I don't like the way that my fans
- 22:29treat certain people. Her fans are probably to tell
- 22:30her to STFU the same way that Beyoncé tried it and her fans
- 22:34told her to STFU, right? The only way you can really stop
- 22:38this, you know, her people hurt people.
- 22:41Her people bleed their herds onto other people.
- 22:44Unhealed people bleed their hurts onto other people.
- 22:46The only way you could probably really kill this beast is to
- 22:48destroy the reputation. It is this dynamic of like a,
- 22:53yeah, bullied kid in high school becoming a senior and doing the
- 22:56same thing, or like hazing culture.
- 22:59You've got haze as a freshman when you become the popular frat
- 23:04kid. Stockholm Syndrome.
- 23:05Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah.
- 23:06Are you just going to decide, no, we like equality now?
- 23:10No, you're going to haze them right back.
- 23:11Like there is this feeling of we have this righteousness on our
- 23:17side because we were with Taylor during the time that the world
- 23:22hated her. And so therefore.
- 23:25Any which they were, they were, they were part of the world that
- 23:28hated her. But.
- 23:29And no one talks about that because who?
- 23:32Who were all the millions of people that were added onto the
- 23:34fandom? Like, they didn't come out of
- 23:36nowhere. Yeah, it's this, like, we were
- 23:38the victims. Therefore we get to now decide
- 23:41who the victims are. The only way to destroy and to
- 23:44change this dynamic, which is a super toxic dynamic where, like,
- 23:48Taylor has lost her own kind of control over her fandom a little
- 23:53bit. So like, what can you do?
- 23:55You give them 1950s shit, Want you to be like Dick down all the
- 23:59time. You just deliver that and you
- 24:02push it and push it and push it until like it doesn't make sense
- 24:06anymore and it crumbles. And I think that's kind of like
- 24:09her point where she's tired of it.
- 24:11I think Taylor Swift is also super disappointed that she has
- 24:14created a culture of I'm teaching you guys to look at
- 24:18Easter eggs and they can see every single Easter egg except
- 24:21for the one that makes her authentically her.
- 24:23Whether you want to look at the Lover album, they completely
- 24:25miss the plot. They miss the biggest Easter
- 24:27egg. And like I said, wish list where
- 24:29all the dollar signs are like, like those things are like bold
- 24:33in your face. And that's why I think back a
- 24:35lot of the times to that song You're Losing Me, which is how
- 24:38long can we be a sad song till we were too far gone to bring
- 24:40back to life that entire bridge right there.
- 24:43I feel like it's to the fandom. I think when she said, remember
- 24:46looking at this room, we loved it because of the light.
- 24:48And then I think back to the opening of the Heirs tour where
- 24:51she's talking about let's go on these memories one last time.
- 24:54The errors are fading into Gray, but how the errors tour starts
- 24:57with her in all of these. Rooms, a lot of these songs that
- 24:59we think are romantic or like the poems that she releases that
- 25:02we think are like all about love.
- 25:04I think are about her fans. I think there's like a morning
- 25:06there of like, look at what I created a little bit.
- 25:10And she probably feels such a disconnect from how people kind
- 25:15of think she is. And that's a concept.
- 25:18She toys around, she toys a lot around with, she toys around a
- 25:24lot with. And and that whole concept
- 25:28really comes down to what Gaylors and performance art lers
- 25:30have been talking about, which is like these multiple tailors.
- 25:33And and I don't know how you can really like not see that because
- 25:39it's kind of a concept that makes sense in for entertainment
- 25:42in general, version of you, for the public, a version of
- 25:45yourself, like a version of and it's just heightened and
- 25:49extreme. We we see that with tons of
- 25:52different, you know, entertainers.
- 25:55We saw it with Ke$ha. How Ke$ha?
- 25:57Right. Persona and how she's actually
- 26:00like this girl who doesn't need auto tune.
- 26:03This woman who doesn't need auto tune and has layers and if I was
- 26:08in Taylor's shoes, I would always kind of be like torn
- 26:11because I'm so thankful for the fact that you've made me rich
- 26:15period. I want to be here if it wasn't
- 26:18for you. But at the same time, it's like
- 26:21you really don't understand me. And how hard must it be for the
- 26:25the group of people who claims to love you the most?
- 26:27Not really get you point where she's able to use love to
- 26:32describe relationships with her fans mastermind.
- 26:36It's straight up that that ability where it sounds like a
- 26:40love song where it's plotting and I'm going to get this person
- 26:42that I want, but then also like it's like, no, it's about how
- 26:45I'm going to lay the groundwork and watch all of this happen and
- 26:48now you're going to be mine or Long live the way that she uses
- 26:53like this love song. I'm like, you know, fighting
- 26:55these battles and like, you know, this imagery of Dragons as
- 26:59the time on a tour, which is crazy to think about.
- 27:01Like it's speak now girl, it's just but like and so she she
- 27:07does have a way with creating imagery and metaphors.
- 27:10What I do, what I do want to go back to that you, you wanted me
- 27:13to, is the lyrics of the album and like what people think are
- 27:19good versus bad, Like are they intentionally bad lyrics?
- 27:24And also like I feel like this is the time before we get into
- 27:26like the docu series and like prediction.
- 27:29It's like this is the time for the State of the Union.
- 27:31If you are one of the gamers of performance ardors who's like I
- 27:34do not like this album because the lyrics are just not there.
- 27:38It's like that. That's the whole point.
- 27:40The lyrics aren't supposed to be good because we're right.
- 27:44That's the whole the lyrics aren't good because we are
- 27:48right, which is part of the reason why, like when I say game
- 27:51is a performance artless, we're losing the plot with a lot of
- 27:54the discourse that I have seen. Haley I was kind of like
- 27:57enjoying my last like bits of summer was with Melinda and
- 28:01James. We listened to the album all the
- 28:03way through. I was drinking vodka and
- 28:05Gatorade just laughing the entire time.
- 28:08And like at the end I'm like, oh, OK, cool.
- 28:10Like exactly. But we thought not you Google
- 28:13then. So then like I realized the
- 28:15mainstream softy group chat that I was in was dead the next
- 28:18morning. I'm like, y'all hated it.
- 28:19That's funny. And gaylors are like
- 28:21collectively losing it like and I'm like, OK, she's a what?
- 28:25She's a trap wife. Then the next weekend the
- 28:28weekend starts and all of a sudden she's racist and
- 28:31mainstream is losing the plot and so she's then Masons and
- 28:34MAGA and a Tran wife. I come back from when the
- 28:37weekend is open and then she a Nazi and I'm like what time?
- 28:42Nazi gate really was like I was like OK hold up.
- 28:46I was never thinking she is MAGA, she is Trump or pro Trump.
- 28:52I was thinking I'm high, I don't like this album.
- 28:58Then I was thinking MAGA likes this album.
- 29:02And then I took some time and I was like, I like the concept you
- 29:08have. It's a different type of album
- 29:10and it's not for consuming in a way that you're like, oh, this
- 29:13is poetry. And in the best music she's ever
- 29:16written, we Taylor Swift is way bigger than that.
- 29:20She sees herself way bigger than that.
- 29:22She has this interview where she's like, I'm focused on
- 29:25legacy here, people. And it's like, right, get with
- 29:28the program, guys. This is pretty much so high
- 29:31school worth and an entire album.
- 29:34We are beyond enjoying songs now like we are in a commentary of
- 29:42entertainment right now. And if you think about how we
- 29:46really understood the antihero music video, again, gaylors and
- 29:49performance artlers lock in. We saw the tortured poets
- 29:53department Taylor. We saw the real Taylor and the
- 29:56Taylor that was teaching this Taylor right.
- 29:59The showgirl Taylor was what we call the evil Taylor, Which
- 30:02again, we shouldn't be surprised if this is performance art.
- 30:06But what did evil Taylor have to do to survive?
- 30:09She literally molded herself into everything to make the fans
- 30:13like her. She became the most palatable
- 30:15version of herself. So why would be surprised if
- 30:19that Taylor is getting personified right and she's
- 30:22bringing this character to life? That's what this album is.
- 30:26We got the Taylor. I feel like we got the real
- 30:28Taylor at Midnight's to be honest.
- 30:30That sounds like that girl. We got the TTPD version.
- 30:33I was a functioning alcoholic till nobody noticed my new
- 30:36aesthetic and then proceeded to watch her get drunk at all of
- 30:39these word shows and say nothing.
- 30:40And I'm not saying that the girl had alcohol in her drinks, but
- 30:44like the fact that her fans aren't like hey Taylor girl, you
- 30:47good you. OK, why are you always drinking
- 30:50in these public occasions? You are with your boyfriend.
- 30:53I exactly Showgirl Taylor. My light just died.
- 30:57Look. At China, shine some light like
- 31:00laughing you like Does this help?
- 31:03I'm dead. Because I would be like, yeah,
- 31:04that works, whatever, it's just going to die and that's OK.
- 31:07She is turning into the type of person that she presented in
- 31:13anti hearing music video literally like the person that
- 31:16we see the one who's like drinking and and taking shots.
- 31:21I mean that is so clearly showing like this is the girl
- 31:25that is the evil 1. And what does an evil person do?
- 31:29She doesn't talk about politics. She makes people think that she
- 31:34he's kind of a trad wife. And at the end of the day, I do
- 31:38think that Taylor is doing that intentionally.
- 31:40You can debate if that's moral all you want, but like, I do
- 31:45think this is part of her plan. And maybe she, honestly, when
- 31:50she set this out four years ago, I don't think she was
- 31:54necessarily thinking like, oh, is Trump going to win in 2024,
- 31:58you know? You know, the other part about
- 32:00it is, you know, if you believe this is performance art and you
- 32:03have a hard time with her not saying anything politically or
- 32:07if you think this is a a big and she's about to pull the rug
- 32:12underneath everybody's feet with this PR relationship.
- 32:16It. I don't know how people are so
- 32:17hard pressed to realize that that doesn't then force people
- 32:20to listen. And honestly, though, if you if
- 32:23you really want to think about the message, right, that Taylor
- 32:26Swift would be sending with this whole era of performance art, if
- 32:30you think that she is doing performance art, it's how easy
- 32:34the media can take control of a narrative and paint a picture
- 32:38for you to consume. And that's what you were forced
- 32:41to believe because she's done the exact opposite of what the
- 32:44all the article said. But yet they're still forced to
- 32:46consume this. So she has all of these people
- 32:49invested, pulls the rug out and then explains, yeah, actually
- 32:52this was performance art. All of it was fake.
- 32:54And there was a point that I was trying to prove.
- 32:56Here's a little bit more of the real me.
- 32:58Now you're forced to Listen, I understand a lot of people have
- 33:03the perception that the NFL is MAGA.
- 33:06And I think we got to clarify a couple of things.
- 33:08Majority of those players are black, one of the few people who
- 33:14actually kneeled once they find Colin Kaepernick and continue to
- 33:19so do we not? Do we forget how they teed him
- 33:22up with Pfizer? It's like, you know, remember
- 33:24the reputation prologue of if there wasn't a picture of it,
- 33:27then it didn't happen. If you really think this is
- 33:29performance art, that there's a point where it's like it's
- 33:31designed to get you to question things.
- 33:33And maybe we have to caution ourselves to not fall for
- 33:36optics. Yeah, and I do think as much as
- 33:40you were right that Rep, the whole reputation is not going to
- 33:43be released. She did say she would release
- 33:46the vault. Tracks.
- 33:47No, we get in those vault tracks.
- 33:48I think canceled was a vault track because just what you said
- 33:51right there. It's easy to love you when
- 33:53you're popular. The optics click, everyone
- 33:56prospers, but one single drop, you're off the roster, tone deaf
- 34:01and hot. Let's fucking offer.
- 34:03I'm sorry, but Titan University. She's absolutely foreshadowing.
- 34:08I think of reputation times 2, except this time it's like on
- 34:12purpose and last time it wasn't. What if the first time it was on
- 34:15purpose? Love.
- 34:17Everyone loves a redemption story.
- 34:20Yes. And think about the like the
- 34:22whole Caleb Nicole of it all and thinking people are on the
- 34:24payroll. You know, everybody got their
- 34:28fan base where they wanted of the Kardashians got the people
- 34:31who love them. Kanye got the people who like
- 34:34they you weren't going to really go outside of your groups
- 34:37anyway. And so everybody just kind of
- 34:39got their fan base is riled up because you were going to hate
- 34:42each other anyway. I think she is mastered the
- 34:47ability to weave around a narrative, yes, and figure out
- 34:52what works for her. And a lot of that is in order to
- 34:55stay relevant as a female artist, and a lot of it is
- 34:57really genius. You dug my dug me out of the
- 35:00grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia, who was
- 35:05Taylor Swift digging up out of the grave in the beginning, the
- 35:08old she was burying the old Taylor.
- 35:10I I think it's an interesting thought because reputation, one
- 35:13of the main reasons why Taylor profited, not profited, but
- 35:17personally it was beneficial for her to be cancelled is because
- 35:20she went off the grid for a whole year and got to be with
- 35:22the person that she loved for a whole fucking year.
- 35:25And I do think it's interesting that before the whole Kanye
- 35:28situation happened, kiss gate happened.
- 35:30How are we going to find a way to be together if we're
- 35:32constantly going to have cameras in her face?
- 35:35You need to go off the grid for a year.
- 35:37And then we have a similar like the tie between Carly and Kanye.
- 35:42Those two dramas happening at the same time is interesting.
- 35:45And then we also have The Masters and Lover coming out
- 35:51right around the same time. Politics and gender roles and
- 35:53you're not sure and I don't know.
- 35:55Yeah, no, I think it's really, I think it's interesting and I
- 35:58just like the fact that now we're not getting Reputation and
- 36:01now she's getting cancelled. And so maybe she wrote a crappy
- 36:04album and didn't expect it. Then why is there a song about
- 36:07cancellation? Why is there a whole poem being
- 36:10like, they're gonna tear me apart if you're at the peak of
- 36:15your happiness? But like, yeah, she's like, I
- 36:18wanted to make this album for a really, really long time, which
- 36:21kind of this bit like I've wanted to like burn this down
- 36:25for a while. I just think I'm kind of ready
- 36:27for it. And like you said, foreshadowing
- 36:29A cancellation. I think it comes back to I'm
- 36:31going to be get you back where it's I can feel it coming,
- 36:35humming in the way you move, push the reset button or
- 36:37becoming something new. Eras fading into Gray.
- 36:39Whatever it is that she need wants to accomplish, the eras
- 36:43have to fade into Gray. I've been wanting to make this
- 36:45album for a very long time, yes. I don't know about your
- 36:48definition of a very long time, but I would say that that's
- 36:52longer than two years. Oh yeah.
- 36:54I would say that's longer than a year and a half, which when she
- 36:57wrote this album, she'd been with Travis for maybe a little
- 37:01over a year. When she said that she wrote
- 37:04this album, she said summer of 2024 they started dating.
- 37:07Summer of 2023, there have been together for one year.
- 37:10When she's writing these songs, when she's saying she's writing
- 37:14these songs, so she's saying, I've been wanting to make this
- 37:17album for a very long time. The entire album, Swifties are
- 37:20saying he's about Travis. They're saying every single song
- 37:23is about Travis. So what the fuck are you?
- 37:27That's another lie. If you think she's writing the
- 37:30song about the album about Travis, then one of them isn't
- 37:34true. Should we talk about I?
- 37:37Think the docu series is what we should talk.
- 37:39About yeah, it might be her perhaps final chapter or maybe
- 37:43cementing chapter and she says it like the final era or like.
- 37:47No, she says. The only thing left is to close
- 37:49the book to. Close the fucking book of the
- 37:53era, you guys. The eras are done.
- 37:56It goes back to the manuscript. Yeah.
- 38:00The years passed like scenes in a show, the professor said to
- 38:04write what, you know, looking backwards is the only way to
- 38:07move forward. Then the actors were hitting
- 38:09their marks, The actors, the heiress tour, dancers like
- 38:12Travis Kelsey was on the Errors tour.
- 38:14And I feel like, again, he's an actor, right?
- 38:17And so when she says the only thing that's left is to close
- 38:20the book, it's like the only thing that's left is the
- 38:22manuscript. One last souvenir trip to your
- 38:24shores, right? I feel like the Eris tour was
- 38:27really that last souvenir, and then it was probably gonna go
- 38:31all downhill from there. I don't know if there's a fear,
- 38:33but this is my hope. I would like it to show how all
- 38:37of these things have been choreographed.
- 38:39I think it would be funny if that phone call where it's like
- 38:42you're really good at what you do and I'm really good at what I
- 38:44do. Like we I would laugh if that
- 38:46phone call was like from 2020. Dude, or if this phone call was
- 38:51like, yeah, like you're performing on stage, we both
- 38:54perform or some there's going to be something in there.
- 38:57Like, like if you think this, that she is performance art
- 39:01learning, of course Travis is going to be in it because if he
- 39:04wasn't in it, I would be like, are they real?
- 39:07I think that fans are going into it with this expert.
- 39:10It's like the same beat and switch.
- 39:11I'm seeing you and there's some Travis content getting you all
- 39:13excited for the Tavis. And then it's going to be like,
- 39:16wait a minute, this is not what I expected.
- 39:18Wait a minute this year. And I think that's maybe what
- 39:22like, like I said, I just expect there to be more about like
- 39:27pulling back the curtain. And she's talked about that.
- 39:30And I think that the pulling back the curtain is a series of
- 39:33events that happened. You pull back the curtain, and
- 39:36who is it? The wizard.
- 39:38He's been choreographing this entire thing.
- 39:42You pull back the curtain and it's not a love story.
- 39:44You pull back the curtain and it's Taylor Swift, the
- 39:45mastermind. Because she starts off, you
- 39:48know, people think that talk about phenomenons as if
- 39:50everything just falls into place.
- 39:52And I think she's going to show how like, no, everything did not
- 39:54just fall into place. Everything was perfectly planned
- 39:57like. We are going to get footage of
- 39:59something involving the French. Ship bracelet.
- 40:02And I think that's kind of like, I think it's going to blow up
- 40:04the timeline in some way. I guess that's my thinking.
- 40:06I don't know how, but it's going to blow up the timeline.
- 40:08It's probably going to blow up the Maddie Healey timeline a
- 40:10little bit too. Yeah, I think it's probably
- 40:12going to blow up the Joe time. I think it's just going to cause
- 40:15a whole bunch of like people except for Gaylors to be like.
- 40:19Yeah, I think it's just going to show more inconsistencies and,
- 40:23like, contradictions, like she's been saying also with the
- 40:26recording of the like, Showgirl, she very plainly and clearly did
- 40:31not record this album in the summer of 2024, period, like.
- 40:34I also wondered if our theories about the surprise songs and
- 40:38like, her doing like, really, really gay stuff is like, you
- 40:41know, going to be in there. I just, yeah.
- 40:44Footage of the friends of. Dorothea One.
- 40:48I just think, I just think there's going to be so many
- 40:50little things. What if we're featured?
- 40:53What if like, you know, I've had this thing where I'm like, if I
- 40:57hear my laugh? Yes, there's going to be a
- 41:02montage of hate from the Internet and it's going to be
- 41:06our faces, you know, in the beginning of the reputation
- 41:12Stadium to her when like she has the montage at the news segments
- 41:15like Nikki Glazers in it and they're like, she's just a
- 41:17bitch. It's going to be like us.
- 41:20Girl, if I hear that I'm shutting the TV off.
- 41:23I'm trying to cut the cameras. This also like, makes me wonder
- 41:27because I'm still a big believer that the ghosting of the Prince
- 41:30happens. I'm a big believer.
- 41:33I also think it's funny she wasn't there for the
- 41:35Thanksgiving Day game. Mental gymnastics, it should be
- 41:38the word should be the phrase of the year, I think because the
- 41:41mental gymnastics to explain she's not at the game because
- 41:44she doesn't go to away games. But it is Thanksgiving.
- 41:49And by the way, you're telling me she can't go to away games
- 41:52because of security, whatever the fuck.
- 41:54Meanwhile, she's out getting dinner, she's out on the street,
- 41:58she's out at new places in new cities.
- 42:00She's never been to all this. See, she had the whole fucking
- 42:04black thing covering her in the stadium, but she wouldn't do
- 42:08that. She wouldn't do that for this
- 42:10other game. This.
- 42:11Is how swifties be doing mental gymnastics.
- 42:15No for real, all these little like articles popping up
- 42:18recently being like Taylor and Travis are fighting Taylor and
- 42:22Travis the wedding like plans are like Taylor Inc.
- 42:27Like I said, I'm a big fan of the ghosting of the Prince
- 42:30happening. I think it would be funny if it
- 42:32happened before the docu series came out because then Swifties
- 42:35are going to have to watch it, which would be the funniest
- 42:40thing in the world. I know the ghosting of the
- 42:43Prince is going to happen and here's why I've been told to
- 42:45enjoy the show by the pumpkin post, whether you believe in
- 42:48those or not. But just like if anybody
- 42:50mainstream is watching this, we already had Laura Dern confirm
- 42:53she's been egging. We see the ring, we see the how
- 42:56she's mocking a marriage proposal.
- 42:57Y'all like we see how all of these things are like curated
- 43:01for swifties, like those engagement photos.
- 43:03Taylor Swift has so much more money.
- 43:05So and we also see like queen Pat saying like, you know, hey,
- 43:08this was the teaser for showgirl.
- 43:09What happens? She goes to Prince.
- 43:11I just don't know if it happens before, which I don't think it's
- 43:15going to happen before the docu series.
- 43:16I don't know if it's just going to be like, hey, actually this
- 43:18wasn't real. And the the Eras Tour movie feel
- 43:21like it comes before TS 13 because I feel like there is
- 43:26going to be like some closure right to them.
- 43:31She is, and you know her story and the queerness behind it.
- 43:36Because like I said, you can't be a performance Artler without
- 43:38being a Gaylord. Because if you're, what's the
- 43:41point of the performance? Then there would be a level of
- 43:44performance, but you would never do this much relationship
- 43:48focused performance art. He is so much more performance
- 43:52art focused and he's so perfectly cast in this role
- 43:56because Joe was just indie enough to be like, oh, maybe
- 44:01they are together, Travis. The whole thing just is so
- 44:06comically Hallmark movie that it's so perfect for the movie
- 44:12she is writing for us. I agree.
- 44:14Yeah, we were talking for at least two hours.
- 44:17It's crazy how fast it goes by though.
- 44:19I'm very interested to see what's going to happen with this
- 44:22Talk You series. I totally agree that we're going
- 44:25to get some major timeline shifts here and I wonder like
- 44:29how much is going to actually shake the Swifty base?
- 44:33Any final thoughts from you? And the fact that she's doing it
- 44:36over the course of, like it's not all being released at once,
- 44:39right? Is it like over the course of?
- 44:40Yeah, I think they're getting released on different days.
- 44:43So it's like it gives time for discourse to happen and then
- 44:46more things to happen, which I think is.
- 44:50We'll love it. Thank you so much for coming on
- 44:52Sydney. Do you want to plug your
- 44:53socials? It is at Sydney Baker green
- 44:56SIDNEYBAKERGREEN That's it for YouTube.
- 45:01Y'all probably already know me on TikTok which is Google me.
- 45:05Following the TikTok guys like it is God like.
- 45:09So refreshing to see your face. Did you see my albums back
- 45:12there? Yeah, I love it.
- 45:14Well, that's it for episode you guys.
- 45:16I realized I didn't do any updates from the beginning of
- 45:19the episode. However, go to my Patreon and
- 45:21Spotify for some bonus episodes. I have on different Gaylord
- 45:26interpretations of some songs and I have a promotion going on
- 45:30in my link tree for Talkspace. Think that's about.
- 45:34If you ever start to hate the life of a showgirl, just
- 45:37remember that Taylor Swift wrote a song called Honey, supposedly
- 45:41about Travis Kelsey and it's all the time women were mean to her
- 45:45when they called her Honey. Dude right, that's it.
- 45:50Bye. See you guys.
