- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: about it but didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: have the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Welcome, astrology friends.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Welcome back.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps I'm actually just welcoming myself back.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's been a couple of weeks since I last recorded, and I've missed it.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: This is a weekly podcast, and that's generally how I like it and the way I want it to be.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: That being said,
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: sometimes life happens,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: and I've had a lot of life happening lately,
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: both personally and professionally.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Good things, fortunately, but that life has required a lot of my time, focus, and energy.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So rather than give you a half-hearted or rushed attempt at an episode last week, I made the decision to
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: honor the space that I was in and be fully present for the big, big things I had going on.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And in fact,
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: this is something that I am working on and have been working on for a while now,
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: full presence.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I've been working on that,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: well,
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: always,
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: but in earnest since about 2021 when we were all going through the pandemic and I
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: was also going through my own health challenges.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I've been trying since then to be more fully immersed whenever possible in whatever
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: or wherever I am in the moment.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That sounds a lot easier than it is.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Sounds like a simple concept, but our culture doesn't always support that.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Our culture wants us to multitask and spread our energy into a million different things at all costs.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And it sets us up to have lives where that becomes a necessity or even a survival mechanism.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: But really,
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: presence,
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: full and singular presence without apology,
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: allows us to have richer and more fulfilling human experiences than is possible
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: when we spread ourselves too thin because we've fallen into the trappings of
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: productivity culture.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So I leaned into that as best I could last week.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: In any case, we're here now and I'm going to address another user question.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I love, by the way, that some of you have been sending me questions.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: It's really valuable to me to hear about how this journey is going for you all,
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: to hear about which things still seem confusing or which things you've been
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: pondering or all the little nuances you've been trying to put your finger on.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I think that's great, and I want to address as many of those things as I can.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: They may not all be covered here or covered in an entire episode,
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: and some of them may simply be written responses to your comments or your emails,
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: but I really do like getting to dive more deeply into your questions.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So one person had said recently that they were struggling to understand what the
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: differences were between the 8th house and the 12th house because it seems like
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: both houses shared a lot of similar things,
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: like spirituality and intuition or mysteries and hidden things or endings.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Both houses can be challenging in that particular way, right?
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: So...
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I think this question is fantastic because it's a very common one to have.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: It really can feel tricky with these two.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: They can feel similar.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about that today and go through these two houses and discuss some of
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: the similarities and the differences so that hopefully by the end,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: anyone who is confused about these two houses can find some further clarity.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Both the 8th and the 12th houses are very mystical and associated with these ideas
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: that are less tangible and more ethereal.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: These are the houses where many of the more shadowy, unseen aspects of life live.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Both houses are often associated with spirituality, for example.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Spirituality isn't a tangible thing.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: It's not clear-cut or concrete.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: It's not always easy to define.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Both of these houses are associated with either what's beneath the surface,
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: like with the 8th house,
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: or with things that are hidden,
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: like with the 12th house.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Under the surface and hidden can seem like the same thing, right?
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Like they're secrets.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: But they're also kind of different.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: These are small nuances we're talking about.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Both houses can be related to our intuition,
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: to psychic abilities,
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: and both houses can be associated with endings or even death.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: The eighth house literally being referred to as the house of
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: sex,
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: death,
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: and taxes,
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: and the 12th being the house of completion or the completion of cycles,
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: which sometimes can mean death.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: So it's no wonder that a lot of people have trouble discerning the difference between the two.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: They do share some similarities, at least on the surface.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: But there are some notable differences, and these differences are, again, really nuanced.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I find that these differences,
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: at least for me,
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: can be felt,
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: quote unquote,
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: felt emotionally and spiritually more than they can be intellectualized.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Lots of things with spirituality are like that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: They're not always as easy to intellectualize.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to try to intellectualize this here as best I can to help people
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: expand their understanding of these two distinct parts of your chart.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I think the best place to start would be to recap what each of these houses means
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: and which parts of life they represent.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Now, I also covered all of the houses back in, I think it was episode three.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So if you're fuzzy on the meanings of any of the 12 houses,
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I would encourage you to go back and re-listen to that episode.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: But I will recap these two houses here and add a few more details.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: The eighth house.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: The eighth house gets called a number of different things and it has a number of different names.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: And that's because it does,
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: like many of the houses,
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: govern a lot of different but kind of overlapping parts of our lives.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Like I feel like each house is kind of a Venn diagram, right?
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Where you have all the different circles of different subjects,
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: different topics,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: but they all kind of overlap.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: I just a second ago called it the house of sex, death, and taxes.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: You'll hear that a lot.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: It also gets called the house of death and rebirth.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Occasionally,
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: that could mean physical death,
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: but most often what we're talking about is a metaphorical death.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: In other words, a transformation.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: It's often called the house of transformation.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: That's a really, really big one.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: This is the theme I think of the most when I consider the eighth house.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Our resilience is built in the eighth house and in the events that come along with the eighth house.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: It can be the house where trauma or wounding of some kind is represented,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: but the healing of those wounds also happens in the eighth house,
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: and that's a transformation.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: It gets called the house of intimacy.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Intimacy forces us to dig down deeper, and that transforms us.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: It gets called the house of shared resources or the house of other people's money.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Chani Nicholas,
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: a well-known astrologer who I very much respect,
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: I think sometimes calls the eighth house the house of collaborations,
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: or at least I don't know if she officially calls it that,
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: but I've heard her refer to collaborations or collaborative efforts a lot when this
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: house comes up.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: It's all of these things.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: All of these names and different ideas are correct.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: If you think about what comes right before the eighth house,
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: which of course is the seventh house,
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: that seventh house is about partnership and getting along or not with other people one-on-one.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: But what happens when you're in partnership with another person,
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: any sort of partnership,
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: for an extended amount of time at all?
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Eighth house issues come up.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Intimacy develops.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: You have to get more vulnerable with that person at some point, or there is no partnership anymore.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: You have to allow yourself and all of the less rosy, less pleasant parts of yourself to be seen.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: And you, in turn, have to see the less rosy parts of the other person.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: That's difficult and scary,
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: but it leads to intimacy and intimacy transforms the relationship and it transforms
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: the people in the relationship.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: There's that word again, transformation.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: It transforms the relationship from one thing to a different and new thing, hopefully something better.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: And if it's a romantic partnership we're talking about, then there may be sex involved.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And this eighth house version of sex is not the just for fun,
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: lighthearted,
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: dating sex of the fifth house,
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: but the much more intimate soul sharing type that comes from feeling really bonded
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: to another person.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: The bonding is really important here.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: That's another type of transformation and another form of collaboration.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: The eighth house is also about the resources that we share with other people.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: It's the money and the goods that flow back and forth between you and other people, all types of people.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: You're
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: partner or spouse and their money is included in this, certainly.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Your family's money, like an inheritance or a trust fund or things like that.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Like, are you a trust fund baby?
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And if so, you might have some stuff going on in your eighth house.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: It's prizes that you win, the lottery, monetary awards that you receive.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: It's also loans that you take out, credit that you use.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: This is also about the money that you owe to other people and not just the money
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: that you receive from others.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: That's why taxes are here.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: But it is also the money that you make through your dealings with other people,
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: sometimes like in business.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: The stock market is a great example of an eighth house thing, right?
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Lots of people who work in finance have strong eighth house placements in their
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: natal chart because they're working with other people's money.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: The economy and the way it creates this web of resources through all kinds of
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: different people and different entities and throughout society itself,
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: these are all collaborative ideas and they all have the ability to transform us and
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: others and the way we live our lives.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Another thing that is ruled by the eighth house that is really significant is
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: psychology or the human psyche and what it is that makes us tick.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Remember, the eighth house is naturally ruled by the sign of Scorpio and the planet Pluto.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: So a lot of those planets
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: brooding,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: shrewd,
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: piercingly astute and observant qualities that are inherent in Scorpio and Pluto
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: show up here in the eighth house.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: So psychology definitely is here.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: The eighth house and Scorpio and Pluto are all very good at psychology and figuring
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: out the human psyche and why people do what they do.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that includes our darker emotions and experiences because those can play
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: a role in the way we think or act too.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And sometimes those things are part of what's making us tick, in certain situations at least.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: With Scorpio and Pluto involved, there can be lessons too around control and power.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Power and control are forms of collaboration, even if they're not the rosiest ones.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: And the eighth house can also be about our psychic abilities and some of the more
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: spiritual parts of life because that's part of our psyche too.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And our spiritual identities are also what is beneath the surface of our physical form.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: At our very core, we are actually all spiritual beings.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: That's what's at the heart of us.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: So that shows up here as well.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Spirituality is also very healing and very transformative.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: There are few things, in fact, more transformative than spirituality.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: And there's that idea of transformation again.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Transformation is really the key word to consider, I think.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: people who have the eighth house emphasized in their natal chart or people who have
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: a lot of Scorpio or a very prominent Pluto are likely to experience a greater than
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: average number of transformations throughout their lives.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: This is a set of lessons that they're actively taking on.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: they may get to reinvent themselves multiple times throughout their lifetime.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: That's not always an easy thing to do, but it tends to be very profound and rewarding.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: They lean into the idea of metamorphosis or possibly circumstances may thrusted upon them at times.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: And these are incredibly resilient people.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Eighth house people can make it through tough situations like almost no one else
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: can because they have almost regenerative powers.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: So there's very much a phoenix quality with the eighth house placements and a
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: marked ability to rise from the ashes whenever they need to.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: It is very, very cool, in fact, how resilient the eighth house is.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: of course,
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: there is a spiritual quality to this idea of rising from the ashes and to the idea
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: of a phoenix.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: But notice here,
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: if you can,
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: all of the things I've just described and how they have less to do with a higher
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: connection to God energy or divine energy than they do to digging down deep within
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: yourself to find what you need.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: or working with others, other people, to get the support that you need.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: There's that too.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: In other words, this house is very much directed towards humans.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: In the eighth house, you're going within.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: You're going within the human psyche.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: You're going within your intuition.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: And you're going within your connections to others.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: In the 12th house,
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: though,
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: you're looking outward and you're reaching for something higher than yourself.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: The 12th house is about connecting to a higher consciousness.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: So this is the house that's naturally ruled by the sign of Pisces and the planet Neptune.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: So imagine those qualities that you think of when you consider Pisces and Neptune
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: and the parts of your life that they might show up in.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: rather than the inward-looking Scorpio-Pluto combo of the 8th house.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Now we're talking about outward-looking Pisces-Neptune energy.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: That's a quick tip, by the way.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: When you get confused about the difference between the 8th and the 12th houses,
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: you can try thinking about the difference between Scorpio energy and Pisces energy.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: It's not a perfect comparison, but it's a similar exercise.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: So the 12th house is the house where you connect with something bigger and greater
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: than yourself and your human existence.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: It's not that our spiritual selves don't get acknowledged in the 8th house too.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: But that spiritual consciousness of the 8th house is directed internally toward the
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: psyche rather than externally to source energy.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: The eighth house is figuring out who you really are and what's really going on
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: underneath the surface and doing the transformational work.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And that can lead to a greater, deeper sense of spirituality.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: And you might try to figure out with the eighth house how spirituality works,
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: like say,
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: how astrology works and what the inner mechanisms of it are.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: But the 12th house takes who you are and everything you've learned and connects it
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: all to something higher.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: The 12th house projects that spiritual awareness you now have in a more outward
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: direction toward universal consciousness.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: So the 12th house,
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: in a sense,
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: is like a space that functions as a link between our human reality and what your
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: quote-unquote real life is and whatever lies beyond that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: That's why 12th house things have such an otherworldly quality to them.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: fantasies, imagination, worlds of fiction.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Those things all live here.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Escapism, escaping from your daily reality or escaping from the real world.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Any activity or endeavor that involves that is very much about the 12th house.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Mysticism, there's that Pisces-Neptune energy.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: compassion or spiritual service toward the greater good can also live here.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: The 12th house can be a place of service and compassion.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: People with strong 12th house placements,
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: often have a desire to participate in global healing,
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: or they really want to make the world better and ensure that there's less suffering
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: in the world and things like that.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: But there's more than that, of course.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: In order to have these spiritual experiences or any kind of enlightenment,
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: we need to first have space and time to reflect.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: We need to reflect on who we are.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: and what we've been doing in our work with the other 11 houses and reflect on what we'd like to do next.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So there's some solitude involved in this process because,
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: when we're busy being with other people or doing all kinds of things out in the world,
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: we're not reflecting.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: We
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: solitude or alone time is a 12th house thing,
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: as are all the other things that are related to your aloneness,
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: like your secrets,
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: your dreams,
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: or even being asleep.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: I also really want to point out that these two houses,
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: and I think this is a really good point,
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: and I want to
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: go to the spot next.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: The 8th and the 12th houses,
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: they're both water houses and they form a trine with the 8th house,
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: of course,
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: coming first if you're going,
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: counterclockwise around the wheel.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: And you can do this with any set of houses, by the way.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: You can look at the houses that form trines with each other.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: or sextiles or squares or whatever.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And this will help you sort of start to see the natural progression of things in
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: your life and how,
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: lessons develop and how the houses get along with one another.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: In the case of this trine,
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: this eighth house,
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: twelfth house trine,
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: it's two parts of a grand trine or a triangle between the fourth,
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: eighth,
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: and twelfth houses.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: all of which are considered water houses.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Even if they're not ruled by water signs in your individual chart,
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: they are still considered water houses.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: And I've heard of this particular trine being called the intuition trine.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: I can't remember where I heard that,
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: but the idea behind this is that any three houses that form a grand trine with one another,
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: so that would be the first,
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: fifth,
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: and ninth houses,
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: the second,
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: sixth,
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: and tenth houses,
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: the third,
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: seventh,
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: and eleventh houses,
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: and the fourth,
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: eighth,
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: and twelfth houses.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: And the houses that form trines with each other
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: all serve to build upon one another over time and progress the lesson.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: So just as an example,
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: using this watery intuition trine,
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: one might have some challenges in early life that were centered around their home
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: and family or their roots,
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: right?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: That's the fourth house.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: And that could all operate underneath the surface
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: for a long time and finally show up later in life as wounding that then gets
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: triggered in the eighth house,
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: probably through an eighth house transit.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: That's typically how things get triggered is through transits.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: And some circumstance or event,
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: would come up in life during this transit so that this old fourth house wound or
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: occurrence can be examined and dissected and healed,
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: maybe through therapy or maybe through working with a healer of some kind,
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: or even just through a whole lot of intensive inner work.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: This is the transformation component.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: And then later than that,
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: down the road from there,
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: you finally can find closure around that particular set of challenges from the
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: eighth house by focusing on 12th house themes and practices like finding a higher
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: power or developing spiritual practices of some sort,
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: getting in touch with divine energy.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: If you're progressing along the astrology wheel in the healthiest way,
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: this house,
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: this 12th house,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: could be where you find a deeper meaning within your experiences,
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: even if they were painful.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: It could be that this is where you find compassion,
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: either for yourself or for the other people that were involved in that wounding
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: with you.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: You might also feel compassion for others out in the world who may share a similar experience.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: This is a place of silence and reflection and contemplation.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: You can review all you've been through here and integrate it.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: reach outward then to source energy and find your kind of zen enlightenment experience.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: So it's a continuation of the fourth, eighth house processes.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: And then the 12th house completes it.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: It completes that triangle.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: So in fact, the 12th house completes all the houses really, because it's the final house.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: So this completion and integration are the goal and the objective in this cycle,
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: the cycle of the 12 houses,
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: if you're progressing through the cycle again in the healthiest possible way.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: this can get tricky because there are people who sometimes don't progress through
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: the cycle in the healthiest possible way.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: And if you don't do the self-examination and the psychological and relationship and
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: healing work of the eighth house,
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: then things can get dicey for people when they're working with the 12th.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Traditional astrology used to call the 12th house the house of self-undoing, and that's for a reason.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: If you have ignored or refused to do that eighth housework,
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: or you've been unable to do it for some reason,
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: and you're still carrying the wounds,
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: or there are things that are still buried and unexamined and you're not aware of them,
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: and they're still operating underneath the surface,
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: then the 12th house can become a place where these buried things cause problems.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Problems like escapism,
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: problems like addiction,
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: which is just a form of escapism,
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: and any other sort of self-sabotaging behaviors.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: That's where the idea comes from, I think.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: But the good news is it really doesn't have to be this way, not at all.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Ideally,
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: the 12th house is going to simply be a place of quiet reflection and a place where
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: you will be able to find self-compassion,
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: compassion for others,
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: and where you can let go of things that no longer serve you so that you can prepare
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: for the next cycle when things move back into the first house and you begin a new
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: chapter in your life.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: I hope that makes sense.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: Feel free to reach out to me with additional questions if you're still confused about these two houses.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: There are a lot of nuances here that aren't always that easy to grasp.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: There is a book on this topic if you really want to delve into it.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: It's called Phoenixes and Angels by Carmen Turner Schott, and it's just about the 8th and 12th houses.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: I actually haven't read this book, so I can't speak to what's in it.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: I,
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: in fact,
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: don't really know,
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: but I am aware of the book,
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: and I've been wanting to check it out myself for a while now,
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: and it seems like it would be a really helpful resource for anyone who's interested
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: in this topic and wants to take a deeper dive.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: And I love this book's title, Phoenixes and Angels.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I think that's a beautiful encapsulation of the 8th and 12th houses, respectively.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: All right, that wraps up today's episode.
