- 2:47Speaker 3: Brad mclhenny, Brian, good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 2:50Speaker 6: Hi day, good morning.
- 2:52Speaker 7: Thank you for being here.
- 2:54Speaker 3: So I guess it was at what time last night
- 2:57Speaker 3: did we get the word down that Andy Smith was
- 3:00Speaker 3: going to be the new Senate President.
- 3:03Speaker 6: The puff of smoke, the white smoke from the State
- 3:07Speaker 6: Capitol dome. So time ran away from me, but I
- 3:10Speaker 6: think it was after seven, but before eight, And of
- 3:14Speaker 6: course the time for the caucus that was leading into
- 3:18Speaker 6: the vote was three PM, so it was a long period.
- 3:22Speaker 6: But what was going on behind closed doors was each
- 3:26Speaker 6: of the three candidates to be Senate President, Randy Smith,
- 3:30Speaker 6: who eventually won. Randy is Senator. Smith is a two
- 3:36Speaker 6: term Senator from now from Preston County. He had represented
- 3:40Speaker 6: the Tucker County area either way, that is a vast
- 3:43Speaker 6: and mountainous district, has been interview chairman. He was up
- 3:48Speaker 6: against two guys who had been in the leadership, Tom
- 3:52Speaker 6: Takubo who has been the majority leader, pomonologist resident of
- 3:57Speaker 6: the Canal Valley, and then Eric who runs a series
- 4:02Speaker 6: of businesses including physical therapy centers, had been uh the
- 4:08Speaker 6: high profile finance chairman. So Randy Smith, you know, dark
- 4:13Speaker 6: horse against two members of the current leadership, and it
- 4:18Speaker 6: was Smith who came out on top.
- 4:20Speaker 8: It.
- 4:21Speaker 6: You know, we were watching and waiting, myself and several
- 4:25Speaker 6: other reporters, a media nicely of Westbrook. Here watch Steven
- 4:29Speaker 6: Allen Adams of the Algen Newspapers, a couple others, and
- 4:35Speaker 6: I mean, senators are humans, they should take bathroom breaks.
- 4:38Speaker 6: So awkwardly we would run out in the hall and
- 4:40Speaker 6: be like, hey, anything going on, and they'd be like
- 4:44Speaker 6: having a little relief, you know, until the door. There
- 4:50Speaker 6: was a long, a long applause a little after seven.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I sure hope that applause wasn't coming while someone was
- 4:56Speaker 3: in the restroom.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Brand that was That was not a bathroom matter. That
- 5:01Speaker 6: was a Senate Chamber matter, not the other chamber, the
- 5:06Speaker 6: Senate Chamber and along. So we gathered up our stuff
- 5:11Speaker 6: and hustled out, and it was very informal. I had
- 5:15Speaker 6: thought maybe it went on so long, but I had
- 5:17Speaker 6: thought maybe the entire caucus would come out on the
- 5:21Speaker 6: chamber steps and address the few of us who were there.
- 5:26Speaker 6: That wasn't the case. We just sort of meekly wandered
- 5:30Speaker 6: into the chamber and said, is it okay if we
- 5:32Speaker 6: come in here? You know, we began hearing one senator
- 5:37Speaker 6: told me conversationally as he was walking walking out, he said,
- 5:42Speaker 6: Randy Smith, another senator was on his phone, and we
- 5:47Speaker 6: overheard him say Randy Smith. So we found out in
- 5:50Speaker 6: a very informal fashion and then went into the chamber,
- 5:54Speaker 6: and you know, Senator Smith was glad to talk to us,
- 5:59Speaker 6: very welcoming, but it was not not as ceremonial or
- 6:05Speaker 6: as formal as I thought it might be to sort of,
- 6:09Speaker 6: you know, here's our guy. The explanation I got for
- 6:14Speaker 6: that was that everybody was, you know, frankly tired. They had,
- 6:18Speaker 6: I think gone without dinner, and you know they have
- 6:22Speaker 6: meetings again today, They're they're doing interim meetings right back
- 6:25Speaker 6: of business. So Randy Smith did talk to the media
- 6:30Speaker 6: for maybe twenty minutes or so. I mean, he was
- 6:33Speaker 6: tired and kind of I think overwhelmed in a way,
- 6:38Speaker 6: just you know, kind of he was confident, yet also
- 6:43Speaker 6: you know, he was reflecting and over the course of
- 6:47Speaker 6: his life kind of surprised to be in that spot
- 6:50Speaker 6: and it was hitting him. So he was he was
- 6:54Speaker 6: generous with his time, but also was kind of feeling
- 6:58Speaker 6: his way through what to say and how to say
- 7:01Speaker 6: it in his own emotions. So it was I mean,
- 7:05Speaker 6: it was really quite a scene.
- 7:07Speaker 3: And then and I will say programming, note that Randy
- 7:09Speaker 3: Smith is going to be on talkline coming up at
- 7:13Speaker 3: ten o six this morning. A couple of things. I
- 7:15Speaker 3: talked to a couple of state senators kind of off
- 7:17Speaker 3: the record this morning. I leave their names out, Brad,
- 7:19Speaker 3: but one of them said that what the media that
- 7:22Speaker 3: would be us should be focusing on here is the
- 7:25Speaker 3: story that is Randy Smith, you know, as you said,
- 7:29Speaker 3: representing that to very mouthonous places where it snows in August,
- 7:33Speaker 3: Preston and in Tucker Counties and a coal miner who
- 7:36Speaker 3: was able to rise to this level. That's one part
- 7:39Speaker 3: of it. But I also talked to another state senator
- 7:43Speaker 3: off the record who said that no matter whom got
- 7:46Speaker 3: the presidency, whether it was Tokubo tar or as it
- 7:49Speaker 3: was in the end, Brad Randy Smith, they're going to
- 7:52Speaker 3: have their hands full because there's quite a division there
- 7:55Speaker 3: from what I understand.
- 7:56Speaker 7: What's your take?
- 7:59Speaker 6: Well, you know, so I have a written story at
- 8:02Speaker 6: West Virginia metronews dot com and it's been up since
- 8:05Speaker 6: eight forty seven pm, and it does focus on, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 6: Randy Smith, admittedly unlikely route from coal minor to West
- 8:15Speaker 6: Virginia Senate president. So it's good to get advice. Twelve
- 8:19Speaker 6: hours after the fact about what that focus could be.
- 8:23Speaker 6: The other thing I would say, though, is, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 6: I really had thought that maybe the entire caucus it
- 8:30Speaker 6: was a three way race. But the players in the race, Smith,
- 8:36Speaker 6: to Google and Tar have publicly been complementary of each
- 8:39Speaker 6: other before and after, and I thought maybe that the
- 8:44Speaker 6: entire caucus would come out on the chamber stairs as
- 8:49Speaker 6: a single unit and address us and just say, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 6: we're behind Senator Smith. Our success depends on his. That
- 8:58Speaker 6: didn't happen, And the explanation I was event was that
- 9:03Speaker 6: that people were just tired. People just you know, went
- 9:05Speaker 6: home and they'd had it. You know, today is a
- 9:08Speaker 6: new day. It's the light of day, and we'll see.
- 9:12Speaker 6: I think it was very competitive. Senator Smith himself did
- 9:16Speaker 6: not express any ill feeling toward the other competitors for
- 9:21Speaker 6: that race. He remained complimentary of both to Kubo and Tar,
- 9:27Speaker 6: and he I thought he would have an idea who
- 9:30Speaker 6: he wants on his leadership team. I thought he would
- 9:33Speaker 6: be ready to, you know, give us at least a
- 9:35Speaker 6: few names, but he was not. His entire pitch has
- 9:38Speaker 6: been I don't want to be top down. I want
- 9:42Speaker 6: to involve everybody. If it's the will of Caucus, I
- 9:45Speaker 6: want to do it, he said, I haven't promised anybody anything,
- 9:50Speaker 6: and that was still what he was telling us as
- 9:53Speaker 6: of yesterday. He said he has to assemble his leadership and.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Some love it may very well change because we don't
- 10:00Speaker 3: know what incoming Governor Morrissey. I mean, there's rumors out
- 10:04Speaker 3: there that that Patrick Morrissey, who's a governor elect to
- 10:07Speaker 3: West Virginia, may be plucking some of the I mean,
- 10:09Speaker 3: may possibly be plucking some of these senators to possibly
- 10:13Speaker 3: be part of his cabinet, and that could change things entirely.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Well, there may be you know, there may be some
- 10:21Speaker 6: people on the back row, which is not the advantageous
- 10:24Speaker 6: place to be coming out of this because they were
- 10:26Speaker 6: on other teams in the Senate. But you're right, there
- 10:31Speaker 6: are going to be other changes that will change, I
- 10:34Speaker 6: think significantly, even the thirty two member supermajority. We know
- 10:40Speaker 6: that that Charlie Trump, the longtime Judiciary chairman, has been
- 10:44Speaker 6: elected to the state Supreme Court. So sometime in the
- 10:47Speaker 6: next few weeks he's going to resign and take that
- 10:51Speaker 6: that Supreme Court role. Mark Hunt, another member of the
- 10:54Speaker 6: Republican caucus has been elected auditor, so he'll be leaving.
- 10:58Speaker 6: That's two. There are suggestions that both the incoming Morrissey
- 11:04Speaker 6: administration and maybe the incoming Trump administration may pluck some people.
- 11:10Speaker 6: So out of a thirty two member caucus, if you're
- 11:13Speaker 6: talking five or so who may be leaving, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 6: that's that's a significant number, and it could change the
- 11:21Speaker 6: very complexion of what the caucus is.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Like talking to Brad mclhaney the day voland show and
- 11:26Speaker 3: five Vadieline brought to you apart by fresh Air Filters
- 11:28Speaker 3: of Tay's Valley Fresh Air as you're trusted filter expert

- 11:36Speaker 3: Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air.
- 11:39Speaker 7: All right.
- 11:39Speaker 3: So exactly before we let you go, what exactly happened
- 11:43Speaker 3: with the special session that never became a special session?
- 11:48Speaker 6: Oh man? Well, you know, my impression was that it
- 11:50Speaker 6: was iffy to begin with. It was more like putting
- 11:54Speaker 6: up feelers and seeing if it could be done. And
- 11:58Speaker 6: I think when it you know, again, to catch momentum
- 12:01Speaker 6: as a public conversational topic. You know, legislators are from
- 12:07Speaker 6: all over the state, including the Easter pen Handle, and
- 12:09Speaker 6: then an email went out to them saying, there is
- 12:12Speaker 6: a possibility that we may be going into special session.
- 12:15Speaker 6: What would have been this past Saturday evening. And that's fair.
- 12:18Speaker 6: They got a plan, they got to be in town.
- 12:20Speaker 6: But the timing of it was that, Okay, let me
- 12:26Speaker 6: let me back back a little bit. I'm not quite
- 12:28Speaker 6: sure why it was urgent. It was an economic development matter,
- 12:34Speaker 6: and it could be that there was a limited window
- 12:36Speaker 6: of time. Also, the Justice administration is within a few
- 12:41Speaker 6: weeks of attend so to the degree that they have involvement,
- 12:45Speaker 6: they're they're packing up and leaving. And then but there
- 12:51Speaker 6: are new legislators, I mean they just got some are leaving,
- 12:57Speaker 6: whether they lost or whether they plan to leave to
- 12:59Speaker 6: begin with, others are taking their place. To pass a
- 13:03Speaker 6: law is a serious matter, and this was going to
- 13:06Speaker 6: require some change to some law. So the question was
- 13:10Speaker 6: which legislators, the old or the new, would be responsible
- 13:14Speaker 6: for that. The state constitution says that as of December first,
- 13:17Speaker 6: should be the new ones. So if there was some
- 13:21Speaker 6: urgent matter that needed to be taken care of in
- 13:23Speaker 6: the law, it just fell apart because it was unclear
- 13:28Speaker 6: what legislators would make That decision didn't seem like it
- 13:33Speaker 6: was going to hold up legally for the old legislature.
- 13:36Speaker 6: To speak for the new legislature. I will say another
- 13:41Speaker 6: guest coming up on talk line just to plug it.
- 13:43Speaker 6: My understanding is that Brian Abraham, the current chief of staff,
- 13:47Speaker 6: is going to be the guest at eleven six on
- 13:50Speaker 6: talk line and can further explain. But Abraham sent on
- 13:54Speaker 6: a message, a public message on Friday evening just saying
- 13:57Speaker 6: that there was a significant opportunity the administration wanted to
- 14:02Speaker 6: go ahead and grab that opportunity. But my reading into
- 14:07Speaker 6: it was that there remains a chance to pursue this
- 14:11Speaker 6: with the next legislative session.
- 14:12Speaker 3: All right, thirty seconds, Your interims do continue today. There
- 14:15Speaker 3: are some committee meetings today, right.
- 14:18Speaker 6: There are some committee meetings today. There's a meeting of
- 14:21Speaker 6: the committee that oversees PIA, and I think there will
- 14:25Speaker 6: be some discussion of that hot topic on the insurance
- 14:28Speaker 6: for public employees, but mostly they're looking at border risk
- 14:32Speaker 6: and insurance management. Just real quickly, the scuttle butt in
- 14:35Speaker 6: the background last night. It is the state's most gosipic place.
- 14:41Speaker 6: There is a new Delegate Joseph Desto from the Eastern
- 14:44Speaker 6: pain Annal from gerard'stown, who is whose future of service
- 14:49Speaker 6: is in doubt. There was a long and I think
- 14:52Speaker 6: heated caucus of Republicans last night talking about whether DeSoto
- 14:59Speaker 6: appropriately and and honestly represented to voters his biography. My
- 15:04Speaker 6: understanding is that most of the Republican caucus highly doubts
- 15:09Speaker 6: that level of honesty, and there is a push for
- 15:14Speaker 6: mister de Soto to not serve as Delegate Soto. So
- 15:18Speaker 6: that's the developing story. I have heard about this from
- 15:22Speaker 6: multiple sources. Believe the basis of it to be true,
- 15:26Speaker 6: but I don't quite know where it stands or where
- 15:29Speaker 6: it's headed.
- 15:30Speaker 7: All Right, the interesting stuff, Brad, I appreciate it.
- 15:33Speaker 9: Man.
- 15:33Speaker 7: We'll talk again soon.

- 15:49Speaker 3: A couple of texts here says the reason day that
- 15:51Speaker 3: the proceedings were so informal was because the vote was
- 15:54Speaker 3: so close. The caucus is clearly divided, says a Texter.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Says there are rumors of another push for Senate presidency
- 16:03Speaker 3: after those senators leave to go after or go to
- 16:06Speaker 3: the other administration before the session, says a Texter.
- 16:11Speaker 7: Let me see here.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Texter said Disota will likely be expelled from the House
- 16:14Speaker 3: in January.
- 16:16Speaker 7: We'll have to keep a close eye on that.

- 19:24Speaker 3: former Mountaineer defensive coordinator, current DC at North Carolina State
- 19:28Speaker 3: and Boone County native Tony Gibson. The Herd accepts a
- 19:31Speaker 3: bull bed in the Independence Bowl to take on Army
- 19:34Speaker 3: December twenty eighth in Shreveport. And also, something along the
- 19:38Speaker 3: way happened to the soccer program too. A guy who
- 19:41Speaker 3: kind of covers a lot of this stuff is Rusty Webb,
- 19:43Speaker 3: our old friend of the show.
- 19:44Speaker 7: How are you, Rusty?
- 19:45Speaker 4: It's a great day to be in the Herd, right,
- 19:48Speaker 4: I mean.
- 19:48Speaker 7: What a day? I mean?
- 19:50Speaker 3: You know everybody knew that Huff was leaving. I mean
- 19:52Speaker 3: that was and everybody knew where he was going. But
- 19:55Speaker 3: the announcement, you know, comes down. That was the first
- 19:57Speaker 3: part of the news yesterday was that Huff you know,
- 20:00Speaker 3: signed the deal. He is going to go to Southern Mississippi.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Uh A lateral move, A move down.
- 20:06Speaker 7: What do you think?
- 20:07Speaker 4: Uh, lateral? I mean you know it's the same conference.
- 20:10Speaker 7: Uh, but Southern Miss is I mean.
- 20:13Speaker 11: Team yeah, the historically they've been good. Yes, Uh, they
- 20:18Speaker 11: pay a little better. Uh, at least in the last
- 20:21Speaker 11: few years they paid a little better for their head coach.
- 20:23Speaker 11: So uh yeah, I'm gonna I'm still gonna call it
- 20:27Speaker 11: a lateral move. Southern Miss has been you know, I
- 20:30Speaker 11: saw the other days said before Boise State was Boise State,
- 20:34Speaker 11: Southern miss was Boise State. And I wanted to say, well,
- 20:36Speaker 11: before they were they Marshall was, you know Boise State.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Right, So people went to Southern missis right far with
- 20:46Speaker 3: the Southern Miss Yeah, yeah, exactly, it's like they've been
- 20:48Speaker 3: the most famous alum all right. So, and I don't
- 20:50Speaker 3: want to forget and mentioning in all this, I forgot
- 20:52Speaker 3: to mention, Oh, the the butt whipping that they put
- 20:55Speaker 3: on Louisiana Saturday night to win the Sun Belt Championship
- 20:58Speaker 3: and what turned out to be hubs last game.
- 21:00Speaker 11: Yeah, Marshall's a it's a great school, very you know,
- 21:03Speaker 11: progressive president very Uh, you know you got to take
- 21:06Speaker 11: a look, man, it's things are great, things are happening.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Was it?
- 21:10Speaker 4: Great things are happening?
- 21:11Speaker 3: And in Huntington, right, it's just and and now so
- 21:15Speaker 3: those announcements and then we understand that Tony Gibson uh
- 21:20Speaker 3: is going to be, you know, a long time Mountaineer
- 21:22Speaker 3: defensive coordinator, but most recently the defensive coordinator at North
- 21:25Speaker 3: Carolina State is coming home and much like you a
- 21:29Speaker 3: Boot County game man from the man from Van, Yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 3: the Van Bulldogs.
- 21:34Speaker 7: Think about that move.
- 21:35Speaker 11: He graduated I guess ten years after I did, because
- 21:38Speaker 11: he's ten years younger than me. No, it's a fantastic pick.
- 21:41Speaker 11: I mean, you know, as far as I'm concerned, Uh,
- 21:46Speaker 11: Christian Spears is batting a thousand. I mean, he hit
- 21:49Speaker 11: his his picks since he's been the athletic director have
- 21:53Speaker 11: just been spot on.
- 21:55Speaker 4: I think he's.
- 21:56Speaker 11: Done a great job, an absolutely great job in picking
- 21:59Speaker 11: coaches and.
- 22:00Speaker 3: And think about this for a moment, when you talk
- 22:01Speaker 3: about the coaches of Marshall, not only with Gibson coming in,
- 22:05Speaker 3: not only are both West Virginia guys, but they're both
- 22:09Speaker 3: southern West Virginia guys. Corny Corney Jackson from Oakill Cocuruse,
- 22:12Speaker 3: he was a herd standout player, and now Gibson from
- 22:14Speaker 3: from downtown Van, West Virginia. I wasn't sure what he
- 22:17Speaker 3: was from the from downtown downtown of the suburbs of Van,
- 22:21Speaker 3: but but.
- 22:22Speaker 4: I think that, I mean, that is the that's a suburb.
- 22:27Speaker 7: That is a great pick though, I mean, it really
- 22:28Speaker 7: is to get Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 11: Well, remember the last time Marshall University picked a fifty
- 22:32Speaker 11: three old, fifty three year old defensive coordinator, Bob PRUITTT,
- 22:37Speaker 11: things turned out pretty well, pretty well. Yeah, so I'm
- 22:40Speaker 11: excited for they call it Gibby, it's like his nickname.
- 22:43Speaker 11: I'm excited. Uh, I'm going to go to the press
- 22:46Speaker 11: conference Thursday, Thursday. They haven't announced it yet, Okay, So I.
- 22:52Speaker 7: Was thinking I read somewhere stars and maybe not maybe not.
- 22:55Speaker 11: Yeah I did too, but yeah, I'm not going to
- 22:57Speaker 11: announce it. That's that's that's there, that's their do you.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Okay, all right, what about this Marshall ball game against Army, I.
- 23:05Speaker 11: Tell you, in any other circumstances, and here's the thing,
- 23:09Speaker 11: we get to play. Marshall is playing the number one
- 23:12Speaker 11: AAC team. West Virginia's playing the number two aa AC team.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Right to our.
- 23:19Speaker 11: Memis yes, okay, I mean when has that happened? I mean,
- 23:23Speaker 11: come on. The problem is is that we're not going
- 23:28Speaker 11: to have our players. I mean, they're in a lot
- 23:30Speaker 11: of them in the transfer portal.
- 23:31Speaker 3: But Marshall's already announced that he is. I don't know
- 23:36Speaker 3: what a status with the ball game is, but he's
- 23:37Speaker 3: under the transfer portal.
- 23:38Speaker 11: Well, that's my that's my understanding is it doesn't mean
- 23:41Speaker 11: you're disqualified from playing if you announce. So just because
- 23:45Speaker 11: you announce you're in the portal doesn't mean you're not
- 23:47Speaker 11: going to play. An interim coach is going to coach
- 23:50Speaker 11: the game. But man, what an opportunity. And the last
- 23:55Speaker 11: time again, let's go back in history. Nineteen ninety seven,
- 23:58Speaker 11: the last time the Herd played at West Point, Randy
- 24:01Speaker 11: Moss did the famous jump over the player. I was there,
- 24:05Speaker 11: I saw it. But you know, Army's been really good
- 24:10Speaker 11: this year. Army is really good and a lot of
- 24:12Speaker 11: people thought that Armies should be in the national playoff pictures.
- 24:16Speaker 11: So you couldn't ask for a better really a better
- 24:19Speaker 11: matchup outside of a P four team than Army. Army
- 24:23Speaker 11: Is or Boise State. I guess Army is probably the
- 24:27Speaker 11: best of the best of the what they call the
- 24:29Speaker 11: G five. So it's a great opportunity. I just don't
- 24:32Speaker 11: know who we're going to be fielding on that day.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Well and the world and I've talked about this, so
- 24:36Speaker 3: Jim Workman on from Walie Whimpy's last week we talked
- 24:38Speaker 3: about this. The world of college athletics has changed so
- 24:42Speaker 3: much with the transfer portal and with n I L.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I mean, and the guys that that you saw for
- 24:47Speaker 3: Mark or WV you fill in school here are not
- 24:50Speaker 3: the guys that you're going to see next year. And
- 24:52Speaker 3: it's so hard for a coach to come in because
- 24:56Speaker 3: you see, you know, you see a freshman that comes
- 24:59Speaker 3: in back in the back in the old days, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 3: during our time, you see a freshman that comes in,
- 25:03Speaker 3: you say, oh man, this guy is going to be good.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Well red shirt him or he'll play a little bit
- 25:07Speaker 3: or whatever. Man, by the time he becomes a sophomore,
- 25:09Speaker 3: he's going to be fantastic. Well guess what, by the
- 25:11Speaker 3: time he's a sophomore, he's gone.
- 25:13Speaker 11: You know, the fans were so cheated these days because
- 25:16Speaker 11: we really don't get to see players develop really unless
- 25:19Speaker 11: we want to follow them from team to team to team. Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 11: and and it actually it goes back to show you,
- 25:26Speaker 11: I think, what a great job Coachuff did. I mean
- 25:28Speaker 11: he did.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you just I mean, you get what you get.
- 25:31Speaker 11: It's like, it's not like it's not like last year's
- 25:35Speaker 11: like you said, you show up, You're like, Okay, who's here.
- 25:38Speaker 3: It's not just about the x's and o's anymore because
- 25:41Speaker 3: coaches now have to serve as almost hr people because
- 25:46Speaker 3: they they're dealing with a different class, you know, different
- 25:48Speaker 3: kids that come in every year. Plus when you factor
- 25:51Speaker 3: in nil you know, and uh, and they've got to
- 25:53Speaker 3: be out there more than ever, shaking the hands and
- 25:56Speaker 3: high fiving the donors because that's and you see that
- 26:00Speaker 3: going on in Morgantown right now.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I mean there's a lot of big, big time players,
- 26:05Speaker 3: and by players, I don't mean actual on the field players,
- 26:07Speaker 3: I mean behind the scenes that want rich Rod to
- 26:10Speaker 3: come there, and some pretty big money's being thrown out
- 26:13Speaker 3: there to try to get him to come back home.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I don't know what's going to happen there.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I think I think it'd be a brilliant move, but brilliant.
- 26:19Speaker 3: But it's it's not the same. It's not Axis and Oeno.
- 26:22Speaker 3: So what about Marshall Soccer?
- 26:25Speaker 11: I mean, come on, come on, I mean what did
- 26:29Speaker 11: we give Did we give coach Grassey a life extension?
- 26:32Speaker 11: Because if we didn't, we should have. I was actually
- 26:35Speaker 11: supposed to play with Alison tennis this morning, but I
- 26:38Speaker 11: figured they got insulate last night we couldn't play. But
- 26:42Speaker 11: so they're going down to Carry North Carroy going down
- 26:44Speaker 11: to Carry on Friday and then spend the weekend there.
- 26:47Speaker 11: If if we win, if we beat Ohire State, which
- 26:49Speaker 11: I think has been number one pretty much all or
- 26:52Speaker 11: at the top all year, which doesn't scare me a bit.
- 26:56Speaker 11: Or I'm sure coach Grassey, then Monday they would be
- 27:00Speaker 11: the finals Monday evening. Uh And we were at the
- 27:03Speaker 11: last one, Rob and I drove down for that one,
- 27:05Speaker 11: drove back that night.
- 27:06Speaker 3: It was crazy, What a what a what a game,
- 27:09Speaker 3: What a Sunday it was for marsh University. We're talking
- 27:11Speaker 3: to Rusty Web the Dave Island Show in five eighty
- 27:13Speaker 3: live Bright to you canmpart by your hometown baseball team,
- 27:15Speaker 3: The Charles, The Dirty Birds, Birds and Selango Law continue
- 27:18Speaker 3: with Slang the Law Light the Nights throughout the holiday season.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Follow the Dirty Birds on Facebook for details and get
- 27:23Speaker 3: your chicks ahead of time at Dblightthnight dot com. Rust You,
- 27:26Speaker 3: I want to pick your brain on a couple of
- 27:27Speaker 3: other things non related to Marshall University. In Sports number one,
- 27:31Speaker 3: there was a new Senate president, Randy Smith. There was
- 27:34Speaker 3: a three way battle between Eric Tarr, Tom Tacubo and
- 27:38Speaker 3: Randy Smith. In the end it looks like right now
- 27:40Speaker 3: because some things you know, could change between now and then,
- 27:43Speaker 3: but Randy Smith is going to be the new Senate president.
- 27:46Speaker 3: No drama on the House side, as Handshaw you know
- 27:48Speaker 3: ran on the post your thoughts on the on the
- 27:50Speaker 3: on the three way run and is there a major
- 27:53Speaker 3: divide as a textas said earlier with the with the
- 27:55Speaker 3: Republican Caucus on the Senate side, I don't.
- 27:58Speaker 11: I think they're going to rally and Randy Smith, I
- 28:01Speaker 11: think he is a perfect choice to carry the water
- 28:04Speaker 11: for Governor Morrissey, and I think Speaker Hanshaw is good.
- 28:11Speaker 11: They're good conservatives. They're both smart. And what I particularly
- 28:16Speaker 11: like most about Randy Smith is he's a coal miner.
- 28:19Speaker 11: And I love it when the working people get the
- 28:21Speaker 11: leadership positions because we need some common sense in leadership positions.
- 28:26Speaker 11: So I'm ecstatic about the pick.
- 28:29Speaker 4: I was hoping that. I was hoping it would be
- 28:32Speaker 4: Randy Smith. To tell you the truth, I was hoping
- 28:35Speaker 4: it would be Randy Smith.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody earlier today that was mentioning
- 28:40Speaker 3: the rise in the world of politics from people that
- 28:42Speaker 3: aren't quote unquote politicians. And you know, you could throw
- 28:46Speaker 3: Trump in there, and you could throw there. Even before Trump,
- 28:48Speaker 3: there were.
- 28:48Speaker 7: People that the people seem to be justice.
- 28:53Speaker 3: People seem to be clamoring for that for people that
- 28:57Speaker 3: are early, and we seen it in senate races, the
- 28:59Speaker 3: US Senate races across the country. People that are a
- 29:00Speaker 3: little bit look at Fatterman. You know somebody that's just
- 29:03Speaker 3: a little bit different. That guy's a lot different, but
- 29:05Speaker 3: they seem to be looking toward that. Before we let
- 29:07Speaker 3: you go, I want to with the world of West
- 29:10Speaker 3: Virginian politics lost an icon yesterday. I think it was
- 29:15Speaker 3: with the passion of Daryl McGraw. Your thoughts on Derrel MacGrath.
- 29:18Speaker 11: Very honorable person, uh, very uh, very good legal mind,
- 29:23Speaker 11: very practical.
- 29:25Speaker 4: Uh, good stock from Wyoming County.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Uh.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I know the whole family.
- 29:31Speaker 11: Uh, they're they're good southern West Virginia people who who
- 29:36Speaker 11: who have always fought for uh and will continue to
- 29:40Speaker 11: fight for the working man and women. And UH, I
- 29:44Speaker 11: have nothing nothing bad to say about Daryl McGraw.
- 29:47Speaker 4: He was an honorable man.
- 29:49Speaker 11: He he served a short time when I, of course
- 29:53Speaker 11: I've been following politics all my life, but I just
- 29:56Speaker 11: graduated from law school.
- 29:57Speaker 4: When he left the Supreme Court.
- 30:00Speaker 11: And then of course his brother Warren was on there
- 30:02Speaker 11: for many many years, and then he went to become
- 30:05Speaker 11: Attorney General, and then of course our governor now Patrick
- 30:08Speaker 11: Morrissey defeated him to become a three term attorney general.
- 30:12Speaker 4: But no, he was always cordial.
- 30:15Speaker 11: It's always nice when you were a young lawyer or
- 30:18Speaker 11: a young person and you run into one of these
- 30:21Speaker 11: you know, icons, and they know your name.
- 30:24Speaker 4: It's always nice.
- 30:25Speaker 11: And he knew my name, and his wife, Jeria nice people.
- 30:30Speaker 11: She of course she was in the I think she
- 30:31Speaker 11: was a she was a superintendent of schools for a Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 7: Yeah, Rusty, It's always a pleasure to have you on
- 30:38Speaker 7: the show.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Well, thanks for thanks for letting me on. Yeah, let's
- 30:42Speaker 4: go go ahead, go hurd.
- 30:43Speaker 7: What a day of news.
- 30:44Speaker 3: You and I were texting back and forth yesterday. What
- 30:46Speaker 3: a day for the Herd yesterday. It's like, this is
- 30:49Speaker 3: the top Oh, okay, this is the top Star.
- 30:50Speaker 7: No, this is the top store.
- 30:52Speaker 3: And now they get ready to go play a ball
- 30:53Speaker 3: game and possibly before that play some championship level soccer.
- 30:58Speaker 3: You're doing it right down there, Rusty. I appreciate you
- 31:00Speaker 3: being here in the heart of West Virginia. There is
- 31:02Speaker 3: just a profound force that goes beyond the realm of sports,
- 31:04Speaker 3: transcending limitations and fostering and sense of belonging. Special Olympics
- 31:08Speaker 3: are remarkable, remarkable. I don't know what word I just said.
- 31:10Speaker 3: A remarkable initiative, showcased in the latest episode of West

- 34:50Speaker 3: West Virginia is definitely clamoring for working class politicians. Oh wait,
- 34:54Speaker 3: West Virginia voted for Trump, an alleged billionaire who's appointing
- 34:57Speaker 3: billionaires to his cabinet positions, who are task with fixing
- 35:00Speaker 3: the system made by duh billionaires. It's a Texter text
- 35:04Speaker 3: says Dave Trump might not be a politician, but hung
- 35:07Speaker 3: around them and bought enough influence just as bad, maybe worse.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Let's bring in State Democratic Party chair delic It Mike Pushkin,
- 35:13Speaker 3: Good morning, Good morning.
- 35:15Speaker 7: It is good to see you.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Haven't seen you in a while.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Your public has been clamoring for you to be on
- 35:19Speaker 3: this show. I've got text just about every day. Where
- 35:22Speaker 3: is Mike Pushkin?
- 35:23Speaker 4: Are you kidding? Not surprising?
- 35:25Speaker 3: I think there's a little sarcasm in the text that
- 35:27Speaker 3: I get. I don't know who it's from, but you.
- 35:29Speaker 9: Know, I think there are people that do. There are
- 35:31Speaker 9: a few people out there that do like me, and
- 35:33Speaker 9: then a couple of people I like may be interested
- 35:36Speaker 9: in what I have to say on here, and people
- 35:38Speaker 9: like to hear opposing viewpoints, and I think it's it's good.
- 35:41Speaker 9: I think it's good for your show. Daved have opposing
- 35:43Speaker 9: viewpoints on here. So I'm willing to come in, you know,
- 35:46Speaker 9: if my schedule allows me to be here anytime.
- 35:49Speaker 7: So in or I'm speaking to schedules.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Interms are going on before we talk about the Senate presidency.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Oh I actually no, I'm back up here.
- 35:55Speaker 3: I want to talk about Daryl mcroth, Attorney General, former
- 35:59Speaker 3: Attorney general, multi term Attorney General, Daryl McGrath.
- 36:01Speaker 7: General and Supreme Court.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Supreme Court justice passed away of eighty eight I think
- 36:06Speaker 3: it was. I think he was eighty eight years old
- 36:07Speaker 3: the weekend of a heart attack. Talk about Daryl McGrath.
- 36:10Speaker 9: Daryl McGraw was just such a nice guy and a
- 36:13Speaker 9: true champion of the people. And I remember him more
- 36:17Speaker 9: of courses as Attorney General, and in that role of
- 36:20Speaker 9: Attorney general, uh, he really stood up for the people
- 36:23Speaker 9: of West Virginia. He had a very strong consumer protection division,
- 36:29Speaker 9: and you know, they went after the bad guys and
- 36:31Speaker 9: they stood up for the little guys. And that's what
- 36:33Speaker 9: that's what the role of the Attorney general is supposed
- 36:35Speaker 9: to be. Go after the back people that are ripping
- 36:38Speaker 9: off seniors. I remember the this was it the Suarez case.
- 36:42Speaker 9: There was this guy Suarez, I think he was from
- 36:44Speaker 9: Ohio and he would advertise, you know, in the in
- 36:47Speaker 9: the news of the Sunday newspaper, and he really targeted seniors.
- 36:50Speaker 9: He ripped off seniors, and Attorney General McGraw went after
- 36:55Speaker 9: him and won. And that guy, you know, continued to
- 37:00Speaker 9: come after people like Daryl McGraw and and because they
- 37:03Speaker 9: had a vested interest in it, and you know, the
- 37:06Speaker 9: you know, Attorney General, McGraw definitely took up for people,
- 37:09Speaker 9: and he was in it for the right reasons and
- 37:12Speaker 9: on a personal level, just a really really genuine nice guy.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I've heard that I did not know him, but of
- 37:18Speaker 3: course I knew the name obviously, But I have heard
- 37:21Speaker 3: from people that were on his side and not on
- 37:24Speaker 3: his side, that nobody really said anything bad about him
- 37:27Speaker 3: as a person. They may have disagreed with him on
- 37:29Speaker 3: certain things, but as a person, most people seem to
- 37:32Speaker 3: like him. And when the history books are written about
- 37:34Speaker 3: the most iconic quest Virginia political figures, I mean, you're
- 37:37Speaker 3: gonna put Bird in there, You're gonna put arch More
- 37:39Speaker 3: in there, and some of these people, the McGraw brothers
- 37:42Speaker 3: are going to be definitely deserve a spot. I mean, remember,
- 37:45Speaker 3: he went after big tobacco and he won these kids,
- 37:48Speaker 3: and he really was groundbreaking the way he led this
- 37:51Speaker 3: like multi state suit which is now more common these
- 37:56Speaker 3: days against big tobacco. He won it, and that's really
- 37:58Speaker 3: what has started. That was the seed money for a
- 38:01Speaker 3: rainy day fund, and it's helped this state a lot,
- 38:04Speaker 3: helped the state a lot. So my sympathies go out
- 38:08Speaker 3: to his family in Juria and as the rest and
- 38:11Speaker 3: his kids and they're all just really really great people.
- 38:14Speaker 3: And he's I mean, West Virginia lost lost their best
- 38:17Speaker 3: friend to.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Dave Alan Chilling.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Five Aniline brought to you a part by Morgan to Morgan,
- 38:20Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. All right, interims are going on.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Where are you right now? On interim?
- 38:25Speaker 4: So I'm right here with you today.
- 38:26Speaker 7: I know that. But I mean, as far as your
- 38:28Speaker 7: your duties, what if.
- 38:29Speaker 9: You have meetings that I'd leave. The Joint Committee on
- 38:33Speaker 9: Education meets later today. The Joint Committee on Health on
- 38:36Speaker 9: which I serve, will be a meeting later today. Tomorrow morning,
- 38:40Speaker 9: the Legislative Oversight Committee on Education will meet. Those are
- 38:44Speaker 9: the committees that I'm that I'm meeting on. I'm looking
- 38:47Speaker 9: over the agendas and I'm ready to go up there
- 38:50Speaker 9: and listen to the presentations and ask some questions.
- 38:52Speaker 7: So yeah, mainly, I think the big news.
- 38:54Speaker 9: Obviously is from the organizational caucuses that occurred yesterday, mainly
- 38:59Speaker 9: in the cent It. I think that's where where you
- 39:01Speaker 9: got your big news from with the Randy Smith and
- 39:04Speaker 9: Randy Smith, what do you think about that? I know
- 39:05Speaker 9: you're on the other side. But what do you think
- 39:07Speaker 9: about that? Well, I think that Randy Smith is a
- 39:11Speaker 9: really nice guy also, and I had had the privilege
- 39:15Speaker 9: of serving in the in the House with he. He
- 39:17Speaker 9: was in the House of Delegates before he was in
- 39:19Speaker 9: the Senate. I was my first two years in the House,
- 39:22Speaker 9: I served with Randy Smith, and even though we disagree
- 39:24Speaker 9: on a whole lot of issues, on most issues, actually
- 39:27Speaker 9: I found him to be a very nice person. So
- 39:29Speaker 9: I congratuate my congratulations to Senate President Lieutenant Governor Randy Smith.
- 39:35Speaker 9: And he's gonna it's it's going to be interesting. I
- 39:38Speaker 9: think this is what like the new like populist wing
- 39:43Speaker 9: of the Republican Party is going to have their they
- 39:46Speaker 9: have Yeah, the numbers over there in the Senate, we'll
- 39:51Speaker 9: see you and that that we'll see. It's gonna be
- 39:53Speaker 9: very interesting.
- 39:53Speaker 7: We'll see how they all get along.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Because I was talking, as I mentioned earlier, I was
- 39:57Speaker 3: talking to a state senator earlier who who said he's
- 40:01Speaker 3: whoever the president was is really going to have their
- 40:04Speaker 3: hands full.
- 40:05Speaker 7: Because it's interesting.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Because I talked to a lot of people in the House,
- 40:08Speaker 3: in the Senate, and I was talking to one House
- 40:10Speaker 3: member last week who said, Wow, those people in the
- 40:13Speaker 3: Senate are something else, and then the Senate in the
- 40:15Speaker 3: Senate says, those people in the House are crazy, and
- 40:17Speaker 3: they're talking about Republicans because there's not enough Democrats really, so.
- 40:21Speaker 9: We tend to be the same ones. They're just not
- 40:24Speaker 9: nearly enough of us. And there's a reason for that.
- 40:26Speaker 9: I've talked about this before, and jerry mandering. One of
- 40:30Speaker 9: the byproducts of jerry mandering is extremism. When you cut
- 40:36Speaker 9: the maps to really favor one party over another, then
- 40:41Speaker 9: the elections are in May and not in the fall,
- 40:44Speaker 9: and then so usually the most extreme can win that
- 40:47Speaker 9: primary and doesn't have as much of a contest in
- 40:50Speaker 9: the fall, and you get you wind up getting extremists
- 40:53Speaker 9: on both side, because in certain states where they've jerry
- 40:56Speaker 9: mandered it the other way, you get extremists on the
- 40:58Speaker 9: other side. Here in West Virginia, we get a lot
- 41:00Speaker 9: far far right folks who are who are winning more
- 41:02Speaker 9: and more elections. And you know, we'll we'll see how
- 41:06Speaker 9: the business community likes it. I'm not sure they will.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Here we're talking with state Democratic Party chair and Delegate
- 41:12Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin, and lots happened since you've been on, of course,
- 41:15Speaker 3: the elections of Donald Trump, Jim Justice, Patrick Morrissey. Text
- 41:19Speaker 3: here says ask Mike Pushkin why the Democrats suffered an
- 41:22Speaker 3: overwhelming defeat in the general election. Would love to hear
- 41:25Speaker 3: his expert opinion. Well, obviously it wasn't a West Virginia problem.
- 41:30Speaker 3: It happened across the country, and it's I think it's
- 41:33Speaker 3: what I was just talking about. Somehow the Republicans have
- 41:35Speaker 3: done a better job of tapping into populism and have
- 41:39Speaker 3: made themselves now to appear to be the you know,
- 41:42Speaker 3: the party of the little guy. I don't believe that's true.
- 41:45Speaker 3: I think that that's what the perception is. It's it's
- 41:48Speaker 3: not necessarily true if you look at who really benefits
- 41:51Speaker 3: from their policies. You know, tax cuts for the wealthy
- 41:55Speaker 3: and tax cuts for corporations, that doesn't necessarily benefit.
- 41:58Speaker 4: The little guy.
- 41:59Speaker 9: Doing away with any kind of regulations on certain types
- 42:03Speaker 9: of industries and making uh water and air less safe
- 42:08Speaker 9: to drink and breed, that doesn't necessarily help the little guy.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Uh.
- 42:12Speaker 9: Stacking the court with with judges that are going to
- 42:15Speaker 9: come down on the side of big business all the time,
- 42:17Speaker 9: that doesn't necessarily help help the little guy. But they've
- 42:20Speaker 9: done a good job of selling themselves as as this
- 42:22Speaker 9: new populist party. When I look back, we were talking
- 42:27Speaker 9: about Daryl McGrath. That was a real populace, Darryl McGrath.
- 42:29Speaker 9: He was really in it for everybody, for the people
- 42:33Speaker 9: that put him there. So we've got to look at
- 42:35Speaker 9: the way that we're presenting ourselves when where we present ourselves.
- 42:38Speaker 9: That's another thing too. Most people aren't reading newspapers anymore. Uh,
- 42:44Speaker 9: They're not a lot of people aren't even listening to
- 42:46Speaker 9: talk shows unfortunately, Dave. They're getting their their information from
- 42:49Speaker 9: you know, from X or Twitter, whatever you want to
- 42:51Speaker 9: call it, or face.
- 42:52Speaker 3: And they're getting information that most the most podcasts, most
- 42:56Speaker 3: of the lines with their view.
- 42:57Speaker 7: It's good, that's a dangerous.
- 42:58Speaker 9: But most of this universe here that has podcasts and
- 43:02Speaker 9: on I mean X obviously is owned by Trump's biggest supporter,
- 43:07Speaker 9: who's spent like a half a billion dollars on the
- 43:09Speaker 9: election at elon Musk and on these podcasts, and the
- 43:13Speaker 9: Republicans are going on these podcasts, and you know, I'm
- 43:17Speaker 9: willing to go on on any of these shows too,
- 43:19Speaker 9: but I'm just you know, there's chair here in little
- 43:21Speaker 9: West Virginia. But we need Democrats to go into these
- 43:24Speaker 9: spaces as well.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Tex says, Ask Pushkin if he's going to do the
- 43:27Speaker 3: right thing and resign as head of the Democratic Party.
- 43:29Speaker 3: With their dismal performance in the election.
- 43:31Speaker 7: As I said, this was not a West Virginia problem.
- 43:34Speaker 4: This happened. It's not even I mean, it's happened across
- 43:36Speaker 4: the world. When you have.
- 43:40Speaker 9: Inflation that tends to bounce back against the party in power.
- 43:44Speaker 9: So well, I would have I think we could have
- 43:46Speaker 9: done better here we had When on the top of
- 43:49Speaker 9: the ticket is getting less than thirty percent, it's very
- 43:52Speaker 9: hard to pick up those seats down ballot. So we're
- 43:55Speaker 9: going to continue to work and earn the vote and
- 43:57Speaker 9: the trust of the people.
- 44:00Speaker 7: What is it that you think that?
- 44:01Speaker 3: And I guess I know the answer to this, but
- 44:03Speaker 3: I just kind of want to hear you talk about.
- 44:05Speaker 7: A little bit.
- 44:06Speaker 3: You know, Glenn Elliott, the mayor of Wheeling, longtime mayor Wheeling,
- 44:11Speaker 3: was a good candidate. I mean he was and you
- 44:13Speaker 3: may not agree with all of his opinions, but I
- 44:14Speaker 3: think most people would think he was a good candidate. Certainly,
- 44:17Speaker 3: Steve Williams former delegate, multi term mayor of Charleston was
- 44:21Speaker 3: a good candidate. They never got any traction whatsoever. Is
- 44:26Speaker 3: it just because of West Virginia being the party of Trump?
- 44:31Speaker 7: Now? Is that why that?
- 44:32Speaker 3: No one? I mean they never got out of the
- 44:35Speaker 3: starting gate. And I mean that with all due respect.
- 44:38Speaker 9: When when you have the seventy thirty split, actually it
- 44:42Speaker 9: was even worse than seventy thirty split at the top
- 44:45Speaker 9: of the ticket. That means mathematically, you're gonna have to
- 44:47Speaker 9: have a whole lot of people split tickets, a whole
- 44:50Speaker 9: lot of people show up who are voting for Donald
- 44:52Speaker 9: Trump to go down ballot and vote for the person
- 44:55Speaker 9: rather than the party. It's just there weren't enough of
- 44:57Speaker 9: those people. You would have to have a tremendous some
- 45:00Speaker 9: amount of split ticket voters in order for us to
- 45:04Speaker 9: do better. And to me, that was really the tough
- 45:06Speaker 9: part of this election is I know how great our
- 45:09Speaker 9: candidates were from the top of the ticket on down.
- 45:12Speaker 4: You know, from you mentioned Mayor.
- 45:14Speaker 9: Elliott, Mayor Williams and Teresa Tortseeva and all of our
- 45:17Speaker 9: legislative candidates up and down the ticket. We had great
- 45:20Speaker 9: candidates and a lot of them came up short, and
- 45:23Speaker 9: it had more to do with party politics and it
- 45:26Speaker 9: had to do with individual merit.
- 45:28Speaker 4: So that was tough.
- 45:29Speaker 9: But I think that, you know, they believe it'll be
- 45:33Speaker 9: a different landscape by the time we get to the midterms.

- 48:31Speaker 3: Text says ask Mike, if money is the biggest issue
- 48:34Speaker 3: for voters, then why don't the Democrats.
- 48:35Speaker 7: Just promise money to the voters. I I don't.
- 48:40Speaker 9: It's always about the economy, and I think, what even
- 48:43Speaker 9: it's it's really hard to explain why inflation happens when
- 48:46Speaker 9: when you when there's an old thing in politics, when
- 48:48Speaker 9: you're explaining you're you're losing. I think that was the
- 48:50Speaker 9: biggest issue. Of course, that's the biggest issue. That's the
- 48:52Speaker 9: most universal issue, people buying groceries. And uh, now I
- 48:57Speaker 9: can tell you that, you know, a lot of it
- 48:59Speaker 9: had to do with the most of it had to
- 49:00Speaker 9: do it the fact that we had this pandemic. Some
- 49:02Speaker 9: say that the pandemic was made worse by administration that
- 49:05Speaker 9: chose to ignore it. And then the followed the Biden
- 49:09Speaker 9: administration had to pump a lot of money into the
- 49:11Speaker 9: economy to keep us from going off an economic cliff.
- 49:13Speaker 9: They did the right thing, but that also leads to inflation. Now,
- 49:17Speaker 9: see how long that took me to explain it. By
- 49:19Speaker 9: the time you're doing that you're losing a lot of
- 49:21Speaker 9: voters who just say, you know what, things were cheaper.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Texas Pushkin is kind of correct about jerrymandering. His party
- 49:26Speaker 3: did it for eighty years. What's good for the goose
- 49:29Speaker 3: is good for the gender. It had to be a
- 49:30Speaker 3: service who. Actually, they didn't do it to protect Democrats.
- 49:33Speaker 9: Obviously they did it out of really ridiculous reasons, for
- 49:36Speaker 9: personal reasons. We look at the jerrymandering that happened in
- 49:41Speaker 9: twenty eleven. It wasn't done to protect Democrats. Obviously, it
- 49:45Speaker 9: was done to protect incumbency.
- 49:47Speaker 7: Tex says Bet.

- 50:31Speaker 9: Aren't watching cable news anymore. Like, Okay, this was a
- 50:34Speaker 9: very to me, a very interesting poll that came out
- 50:36Speaker 9: here in West Virginia. Now, if you listen to Metro News,
- 50:39Speaker 9: which isn't exactly liberal media in my opinion, or if
- 50:42Speaker 9: you listened to it you read any paper in the
- 50:44Speaker 9: state listening talk show, they were talking about Jim Justice's
- 50:47Speaker 9: legal problems, his financial problems all through the election. And
- 50:50Speaker 9: then a poll came out and I can't remember who
- 50:52Speaker 9: did the poll. The poll came out and showed that
- 50:54Speaker 9: nobody knew about it. People were not paying attention to
- 50:57Speaker 9: Most people didn't know about Jim justices many problems, which
- 51:01Speaker 9: tells me people either they're not they're not reading the news,
- 51:04Speaker 9: they're not listening.
- 51:04Speaker 7: To I don't know how you could not know.
- 51:06Speaker 3: I mean really, but I'm.
- 51:10Speaker 7: Not making this up. Wells didn't know.
- 51:12Speaker 9: People aren't either, They're not getting their information from where
- 51:15Speaker 9: they're getting their information from different sources or just not
- 51:17Speaker 9: interested in that information.
- 51:18Speaker 3: All right, tex says Mike West. Virginia voters are sick
- 51:21Speaker 3: and tired of Democrat left wing liberalism. That's the reason
- 51:23Speaker 3: Republicans dominated.
- 51:25Speaker 9: Well, I think that they've done a good job of
- 51:27Speaker 9: selling themselves as a party that's looking out for people's
- 51:30Speaker 9: best interests. But you think it's in the best interest
- 51:32Speaker 9: of people to uh raise premiums on our on our
- 51:36Speaker 9: teachers and our police officers and our public employees. Because
- 51:39Speaker 9: that's what they're gonna do, and they're gonna, they're gonna
- 51:41Speaker 9: the whole point is to privatize it and throw these
- 51:43Speaker 9: folks who have been working for in the public sector
- 51:46Speaker 9: through the wolves. You think that's in people's best interests. No,
- 51:48Speaker 9: but that's not what they run on. Nobody runs on, Hey,
- 51:51Speaker 9: I'm going to raise your insurance premiums. I'm going to
- 51:53Speaker 9: privatize your health care benefits. They don't run on that.
- 51:57Speaker 9: They run on social issues and do a good job. Again,
- 52:00Speaker 9: people upset at each other, all right, kudos to them.
- 52:03Speaker 9: We're gonna keep at it and we're gonna and we're
- 52:05Speaker 9: and we're gonna do the best we cand to give
- 52:08Speaker 9: people the government they deserve.
- 52:09Speaker 7: All right, get back over to the Capitol, any Joe
- 52:11Speaker 7: over there today, Man, you got to get to work.
