- 0:04Speaker 1: Third hour show fifty six nineteen of The Morning Show
- 0:10Speaker 1: with Preston Scott. If you'd have told me when I
- 0:12Speaker 1: started this program twenty four years ago and some change
- 0:17Speaker 1: the things that would be occupying the news headlines today,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I would have slapped you in the mouth and called
- 0:25Speaker 1: you a liar. There's just you cannot make it up.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And so I am privileged to try to find guests
- 0:38Speaker 1: that are able to help make sense as best as
- 0:42Speaker 1: we can of the things that are happening. And perhaps
- 0:48Speaker 1: no one stands taller on that mountain than this gentleman.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Justin Haskins is the Vice president Policy with the Hartland
- 0:57Speaker 1: Institute and a prolific writer author. You'll find his books
- 1:01Speaker 1: on Amazon and all the different booksellers that are out there.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Justin how are you, I'm doing so well? How are you?
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm hanging in there, but justin I'm hanging
- 1:14Speaker 1: in there. I am so I told I told our
- 1:17Speaker 1: audience earlier in the show that the only way I
- 1:22Speaker 1: navigate through what I do is my faith in Christ.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Because God's on the throne, he knows the end before
- 1:31Speaker 1: the beginning, and it's going to come to a point
- 1:34Speaker 1: where it's going to make sense in the grand scheme
- 1:37Speaker 1: of things in God's economy. But I'm having trouble making
- 1:40Speaker 1: sense of everything from Graham Platner to the Save Act
- 1:44Speaker 1: to where we are today. How do you filter through everything?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oh, you know, it's a lot of coffee, a little
- 1:56Speaker 2: bit of alcohol, a lot of praying. Honestly, I go.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I went into this when Republicans won the last election,
- 2:14Speaker 2: Trump won the presidency. I went into this believing that
- 2:19Speaker 2: they would let me down. So this is pretty much
- 2:24Speaker 2: what I was expecting. Yeah, I mean, I think I
- 2:30Speaker 2: think Donald Trump has done a lot of good stuff
- 2:32Speaker 2: through executive action and and things like that. But I
- 2:36Speaker 2: think for the most part, our way the Republican Party
- 2:40Speaker 2: is right now, and the way Congress is set up
- 2:44Speaker 2: and the rules of the Senate and everything else, we
- 2:47Speaker 2: are just not going to get good legislation passed. It
- 2:51Speaker 2: just is not going to happen. And without that occurring,
- 2:55Speaker 2: we really can't fix the structural problems that exist. We
- 2:59Speaker 2: can we can put band aids on bullet holes. That's
- 3:02Speaker 2: all we can do. And it is incredibly frustrating and
- 3:08Speaker 2: very disappointing. And this but this is this is where
- 3:11Speaker 2: we are and the Democrat party likes to stand on
- 3:17Speaker 2: its you know, soapbox and tell tell the Republicans how
- 3:20Speaker 2: horrible they are for you know, having less than perfect
- 3:26Speaker 2: candidates in office, and then they go and they pick
- 3:29Speaker 2: up like a Nazi, you know, and it's like, that's
- 3:34Speaker 2: of course that's the case, because Democrats are not a
- 3:37Speaker 2: viable option for a lot of people either. And so
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's just it's just politicians right now. Is the entire
- 3:45Speaker 2: political system in Washington is so broken, and that's why
- 3:49Speaker 2: people elected Trump in the first place. But we keep
- 3:53Speaker 2: running into this same cycle over and over and over again,
- 3:56Speaker 2: where we elect politicians who say that they're going to
- 3:58Speaker 2: do something different and they don't do something different, and
- 4:01Speaker 2: then and then a section of the vote of the
- 4:04Speaker 2: populace switches parties, votes for the other party. They come
- 4:07Speaker 2: into power because they say they're going to do something different,
- 4:09Speaker 2: they don't, and we bounce back and forth between these
- 4:11Speaker 2: two parties and nothing changes. It's incredibly frustrating.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Justin we just talked about the the failure of the
- 4:22Speaker 1: parties Republicans, I would say that it's enough of them
- 4:27Speaker 1: without conviction and uh, just being the elected people that
- 4:33Speaker 1: we've grown to accustomed to having in Congress, and with Democrats,
- 4:38Speaker 1: they're just woefully misguided in their philosophy and have no
- 4:43Speaker 1: anchor point whatsoever. And all the while this is going on,
- 4:48Speaker 1: the socialist communist Islamis faction of this country is gaining strength.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yep, that's that's an accurate assessment. It's not good. I
- 4:59Speaker 2: would I would say that we have huge, massive problems
- 5:05Speaker 2: coming in this country, not just because of the socialist
- 5:10Speaker 2: factions that are growing, which I think is a huge crisis,
- 5:15Speaker 2: but something I've been working on for many years now,
- 5:18Speaker 2: because huge sections of the young American populists eighteen to
- 5:25Speaker 2: you know, say, thirty nine year olds, believe in socialist policies.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Many of them say they openly support socialism and want
- 5:32Speaker 2: to see socialist candidates become president. Depending on the poll
- 5:35Speaker 2: you're looking at, you know, it could be as high
- 5:37Speaker 2: as forty to fifty percent want that. But if you
- 5:41Speaker 2: ask about specific crazy policies like do you want to
- 5:45Speaker 2: nationalize whole industries and do you want to take away
- 5:48Speaker 2: vast amounts of wealth of other people's money, not even
- 5:53Speaker 2: just the super rich, but just people who have me,
- 5:57Speaker 2: they say yes, they want these policies too, they want
- 6:01Speaker 2: to blow up the Constitution, they want to blow up
- 6:03Speaker 2: the Supreme Court, not literally, but they want to start
- 6:06Speaker 2: all over huge portions. Again, we're talking, depending on the question,
- 6:11Speaker 2: anywhere between thirty to fifty percent of young people want that.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And on top of all of that, we have this
- 6:18Speaker 2: looming problem of artificial intelligence causing lots of economic disruption
- 6:25Speaker 2: in the future, especially for young people. It's already i think,
- 6:27Speaker 2: starting to happen, and that's going to make socialism even
- 6:30Speaker 2: more attractive, which is why people like Bernie Sanders are
- 6:34Speaker 2: working so hard on that issue, because they know that.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So these are huge problems, not to mention all of
- 6:41Speaker 2: the stuff that's going on overseas. There's tons of things
- 6:44Speaker 2: we could talk about there with China and Russia and
- 6:47Speaker 2: so on and so forth. And for the most part,
- 6:50Speaker 2: we can't even get our politicians in America to pass
- 6:55Speaker 2: common sense, basic laws that make sure that the people
- 6:59Speaker 2: who are filling now ballots are really the people who
- 7:03Speaker 2: we think they are, so we don't just send massive
- 7:05Speaker 2: amounts of ballots in the mail to people's houses. We
- 7:07Speaker 2: can't even get them to do that, And that's really
- 7:12Speaker 2: the issue here. We just don't have good enough politicians
- 7:17Speaker 2: when it comes down to it.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Why I haven't found it yet? Why have Tom Tillis,
- 7:24Speaker 1: Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitch McConnell coming in opposition
- 7:27Speaker 1: of the Save Act?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I don't know how anybody is opposed to
- 7:35Speaker 2: the Save Act other than you want voter fraud, and
- 7:40Speaker 2: in those truly, I know that sounds extreme or whatever,
- 7:44Speaker 2: but I really believe that that's the case. In their
- 7:47Speaker 2: particular situation, it doesn't benefit them. I think their thing
- 7:52Speaker 2: is a little bit different for each of them. But
- 7:54Speaker 2: I think in Murkowski and Collins's case, for example, they're
- 7:59Speaker 2: in states where it benefits them to be a quote
- 8:03Speaker 2: unquote moderate, middle of the road, you know, not partisan person.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But that's not that's not middle of the road or moderate.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Eighty three percent plus of this country think it's what
- 8:13Speaker 1: we should do, even Democrats and Blacks and Latinos yep.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Every I know, I know, and I and I don't
- 8:21Speaker 2: understand that at all. I don't understand it. I mean,
- 8:26Speaker 2: in Susan Collins's case, I think it's because you know,
- 8:28Speaker 2: she's in a Democrat leaning state, and democrats in that
- 8:31Speaker 2: state think it's a conspiracy theory that voter fraud happens.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So maybe that's part of it. In Alaska, I don't.
- 8:39Speaker 3: I can't.
- 8:39Speaker 2: They have lots of mail in balloting in Alaska and
- 8:41Speaker 2: they have for a long time because of how rural
- 8:43Speaker 2: it is. Sure, so maybe that's the reason there. But
- 8:46Speaker 2: ultimately there's no reason why we can't have some version
- 8:50Speaker 2: of the SAYAC and they're just totally unwilling to go
- 8:56Speaker 2: along with any good, really great piece of legislation. It's
- 8:59Speaker 2: not just this, but to say that, to me is
- 9:02Speaker 2: the most important one, because if you can't trust the elections,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and what's the point.
- 9:07Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna go ahead and do it. What
- 9:09Speaker 1: if Justin haskins with me from the Heartland Institute, where
- 9:13Speaker 1: he's vice president of policy and the website, by the way,
- 9:16Speaker 1: where you can go with your kids, Like I'm not kidding,
- 9:19Speaker 1: your kids, your middle schoolers, your high schoolers, stoppingsocialism dot com,
- 9:25Speaker 1: mom's dads, it's up to you. Justin with us. I'd
- 9:30Speaker 1: asked you in the break prepare us for what you
- 9:34Speaker 1: believe will happen if Democrats take back control of the
- 9:38Speaker 1: House and the Senate in the midterms.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I think what everybody needs to understand is that
- 9:48Speaker 2: we are on the precipice here of a very dark
- 9:52Speaker 2: period in Orish history.
- 9:54Speaker 3: It's things don't go well in the next four to
- 10:00Speaker 3: let's say, twelve years, you know, three four to ten years,
- 10:05Speaker 3: somewhere in that range.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's going to be very difficult for America to turn
- 10:10Speaker 2: things around. And of course people have been saying that
- 10:14Speaker 2: for a very long time, and I know that this
- 10:16Speaker 2: is the most important election of their lifetime. I'm not
- 10:18Speaker 2: saying this election coming up is the most important, but
- 10:22Speaker 2: it is incredibly important. And the reason for this is
- 10:26Speaker 2: because of the things that we talked about in the
- 10:28Speaker 2: last couple of segments. Here we have the rise of socialism,
- 10:32Speaker 2: our children and the generations who are not even children anymore.
- 10:37Speaker 2: People who are in their twenties and early thirties are
- 10:40Speaker 2: infatuated with socialist ideas. They believe that the things that
- 10:47Speaker 2: we all think America make America great are actually horrible.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Many of them are ashamed of their country, don't actually
- 10:55Speaker 2: love America. Some of them openly say in polls, huge
- 10:59Speaker 2: segments of them, I don't have the data in front
- 11:01Speaker 2: of me, but huge segments of them say they would
- 11:03Speaker 2: put the United Nations in charge of America if they
- 11:07Speaker 2: had the chance. Oh my god. And you have artificial
- 11:10Speaker 2: intelligence rising up now. That's going to do a lot
- 11:13Speaker 2: of job displacement in this country. And automation and things
- 11:18Speaker 2: like that. People are going to need new jobs. There's
- 11:20Speaker 2: going to be a lot of unhappy, miserable, angry people
- 11:24Speaker 2: on top of all of the problems we already have
- 11:27Speaker 2: and all the issues going on overseas. And you have
- 11:30Speaker 2: to have good policy. We have to have it or
- 11:34Speaker 2: else this country is going to continue to slide down
- 11:37Speaker 2: the path toward towards socialism and communism. That's where we're
- 11:41Speaker 2: going to go. And the Democrats are completely fine with that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: They want the disruption, they want the chaos because it
- 11:51Speaker 2: benefits them politically. And that's why Bernie Sanders and people
- 11:56Speaker 2: like that are out there saying the things that they do.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Why AOC is the darling of the media on the left.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Not all Democrats obviously are like this, but the party itself,
- 12:06Speaker 2: a lot of the people who are now powerful in it,
- 12:08Speaker 2: they've thrown out all the moderates. It's a socialist party.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The stakes could not possibly be higher at this point.
- 12:16Speaker 1: If you were advising Joe Gruder's chairman of the RNC,
- 12:23Speaker 1: who I know of him because of his time here
- 12:26Speaker 1: in Florida. What would you be telling him they'd need
- 12:28Speaker 1: to be doing right now.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Well, I would say it's too late. Well, the biggest
- 12:37Speaker 2: problem that they have in the party is you can
- 12:40Speaker 2: make promises that help you win elections, but if you
- 12:42Speaker 2: don't follow through on them, which someone you know, the
- 12:45Speaker 2: RNC leadership can't necessarily control, then it doesn't matter. And
- 12:49Speaker 2: that's the issue. The reason that Republicans won in a
- 12:53Speaker 2: landslide in the last election is because primarily of the
- 12:56Speaker 2: economy and things not being good for people in terms
- 13:01Speaker 2: of the ability to buy a home, the skyrocketing personal debt,
- 13:06Speaker 2: skyrocketing student loan debt, all of these, the inflation crisis,
- 13:11Speaker 2: supply chain issues that were going on, the chaos that
- 13:14Speaker 2: was overseas, the craziness going on in kids' schools. It
- 13:18Speaker 2: was a lot of basic foundational issues in some of
- 13:23Speaker 2: the most important things. And then really the Republicans in
- 13:27Speaker 2: Washington have not focused on those issues, some of them,
- 13:32Speaker 2: and we don't have solutions to most of those problems,
- 13:35Speaker 2: and things just continue to get a little bit worse
- 13:38Speaker 2: for people, regular working people. Wealthier people are doing okay,
- 13:43Speaker 2: but regular working people are struggling. And if you don't
- 13:47Speaker 2: follow through on those promises, you're going to be in
- 13:49Speaker 2: huge trouble. And so what I would tell them is
- 13:52Speaker 2: to focus on those things. But at this point, I
- 13:56Speaker 2: don't know how much credibility they have in this election cycle.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It's people who believed things were going to be different
- 14:02Speaker 2: this time and now here they are getting the same
- 14:05Speaker 2: thing that they've always get, which is a whole lot
- 14:08Speaker 2: of nothing from people in Washington, d c. Other than
- 14:12Speaker 2: the President who is trying through executive action. But there
- 14:15Speaker 2: are limits to what you can do to improve the
- 14:18Speaker 2: economy using executive orders.
