- 0:19Speaker 1: It is time for your secret.
- 0:20Speaker 2: What's up? Well, I made this really tough decision.
- 0:26Speaker 3: All right, so here's the deal. I.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I anonymously reported my mother to the city.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Um, to the city. What do you mean?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Why?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, nobody else in my family is as involved like
- 0:40Speaker 2: in my mom's life as I am. And my mom
- 0:42Speaker 2: is a full on total hoarder. I mean, I'm not,
- 0:46Speaker 2: she's not, not like somebody who's got like a lot
- 0:48Speaker 2: of stuff, but, uh, I'm talking like, I don't know,
- 0:52Speaker 2: hoarders TV show level hoarder.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Really? It's, it's, it's terrible.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Uh, like her house it's not even like walkable anymore
- 1:01Speaker 2: she has like little pathways and there's just piles of
- 1:04Speaker 2: stuff in the way to get anywhere she needs to
- 1:07Speaker 2: get from the kitchen or the bathroom and there are
- 1:10Speaker 2: rooms you can't even enter and that's all she does
- 1:13Speaker 2: she goes to like garage sales all the time and
- 1:16Speaker 2: now uh you know facebook marketplace it's it's like 10
- 1:20Speaker 2: times worse because she doesn't have to even leave the
- 1:22Speaker 2: house to find more stuff and oh she's she's got
- 1:25Speaker 2: she's got canned goods and and like food like actual
- 1:29Speaker 2: food that expired like years ago and she just she
- 1:32Speaker 2: won't you know she won't throw it away there's rodents
- 1:36Speaker 2: yes i've seen rodents and there's there's cats she's got
- 1:39Speaker 2: like multiple cats living.
- 1:41Speaker 1: In there she's got rodents and cats living inside her house.
- 1:45Speaker 2: But i've seen rodents in there there's definitely cats that
- 1:48Speaker 2: are not hers and They're not hers?
- 1:50Speaker 1: They're just random cats in the house?
- 1:52Speaker 2: I mean, she's had cats. I think maybe two of
- 1:54Speaker 2: them are hers, but when you go there, you don't
- 1:56Speaker 2: know what cats are going to be there that day.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I mean, you would not believe how the house smells.
- 2:04Speaker 2: It's like beyond and she's, you know, she's used to it.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It kind of went nuts when my dad passed away
- 2:15Speaker 2: and then he was the one that kind of kept
- 2:17Speaker 2: her in check and And after he passed away, she
- 2:20Speaker 2: just kind of went nuts.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I always wonder. Yeah, I always wonder what people because
- 2:25Speaker 1: I mean, I'm kind of oddly fascinated by hoarders because
- 2:28Speaker 1: you wonder what's going on in their mind, how they
- 2:29Speaker 1: can live that way and just shut it off and
- 2:31Speaker 1: think it's OK.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And why?
- 2:33Speaker 3: And why can't use all that stuff?
- 2:35Speaker 1: You can never use all that stuff. So usually I
- 2:37Speaker 1: feel like it's I'm no psychologist, but I feel like
- 2:39Speaker 1: it's triggered by something. But who knows in this case?
- 2:41Speaker 3: So.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You've tried to help out, but you're very involved in
- 2:44Speaker 1: her life and you've tried to figure it out.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We've offered to clean it. We've offered to pay people
- 2:49Speaker 2: to clean it. We, you know, we beg her, we
- 2:51Speaker 2: fight her. You know, I tried to reach out to
- 2:54Speaker 2: the TV show hoarders and that didn't really work out,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but she just won't, she won't, she won't do anything.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So I, I, I don't know. I didn't know what
- 3:02Speaker 2: to do and I thought this would solve it. And
- 3:04Speaker 2: I called, I called the city and I didn't, I
- 3:07Speaker 2: didn't give him my name. I just, I just said
- 3:09Speaker 2: that I, there was a house that I knew of
- 3:11Speaker 2: that was a serious health and safety issue. And I
- 3:14Speaker 2: told him about all the food and the rodents and stuff.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And so they came and now they gave her an ultimatum,
- 3:23Speaker 2: an ultimatum that the, the house has got to be
- 3:26Speaker 2: cleaned up or there's a possibility that it could be condemned,
- 3:30Speaker 2: which I thought, I guess I was what I wanted,
- 3:34Speaker 2: but my mom is, it's just gone way wrong. She's
- 3:38Speaker 2: devastated and she's, she's calling me all the time. Just furious.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Somebody reported me and he'll need to mind their own business.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And I, and I'm, it's me. I'm listening to her
- 3:48Speaker 2: knowing it's me.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Now, what about your, your friend, the rest of the family?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Do they know that you're the one who did it?
- 3:53Speaker 2: They do not know.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Nobody knows.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Nobody. I, you know, so I, I forced my mother's hand,
- 4:00Speaker 2: which I thought was a good thing, but now I
- 4:01Speaker 2: put my, her house at risk and I don't know
- 4:05Speaker 2: what to do. I mean, I, She's older and the
- 4:09Speaker 2: house is a fire hazard and it's unhealthy. What if
- 4:14Speaker 2: she falls in there one day? I mean, nobody's going
- 4:17Speaker 2: to be able to... get to her finder she was
- 4:20Speaker 2: i don't know so that's why i did.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It and well sometimes you got to do hard things
- 4:25Speaker 1: to to show people you love them yeah but.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Now can't you guys go in and help like you
- 4:30Speaker 3: offered before maybe that's what you do yeah i i
- 4:33Speaker 3: guess we i mean we've kind of forced her but
- 4:36Speaker 3: she i don't know if she's gonna have a breakdown
- 4:38Speaker 3: or i i mean she's just it's just really tearing
- 4:41Speaker 3: my mom up.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Well, this might be the opportunity you needed to go. OK, see, mom,
- 4:45Speaker 1: now we now we have to help. It's not just
- 4:47Speaker 1: us who are concerned about it. I mean, and I've
- 4:49Speaker 1: watched that show before and that's what sometimes it takes
- 4:52Speaker 1: for them to turn it around. And there are cases
- 4:54Speaker 1: where they have. Yeah. You ever best interest at hand.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And I just the whole thing's fascinating to me. I
- 4:59Speaker 1: really hope that she gets the help she needs. And.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I hope you guys figure this out. I don't think
- 5:03Speaker 1: you could beat yourself up by doing that because I
- 5:05Speaker 1: think that she needs a wake up call. And it's
- 5:08Speaker 1: almost like an intervention, really.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess. All right.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I'll keep I'll keep the.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Faith and keep the faith.
- 5:15Speaker 3: There's nothing selfish about it for you.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean, I think I was on the path of
- 5:19Speaker 1: being a hoarder, too.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So I get it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I think I was close.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I just started throwing stuff away. But if I would
- 5:24Speaker 1: have been 80 or a little bit older, you know, older,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I think I would be there. I'd be sleeping on
- 5:28Speaker 1: a pile of stuff I didn't want to throw away.
- 5:30Speaker 3: No, I won't let you because I always come over
- 5:31Speaker 3: and get your stuff.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 1: But I'll probably outlive you. So I'm worried about it. Well, sir,
- 5:40Speaker 1: thank you so much. And listen, have a good day.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And we appreciate you confessing and keep us up to
- 5:46Speaker 1: date on what's going on.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Appreciate you guys.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm do its best, even if it's hard.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah. You know.
