- 1:03Speaker 2: what wasn't too expect it's a podcast. Come twenty five.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Whistles wine, everybody, thank you, blow the whistle. We got
- 1:13Speaker 1: a really cool episode because we have the world's strongest man, wait,
- 1:17Speaker 1: strongest man on Earth. You know, world and Earth are
- 1:20Speaker 1: very similar. But he is his literal title, his strongest
- 1:24Speaker 1: man on Earth, and he won that in twenty twenty five.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And I'm just gonna go to him because we talk
- 1:29Speaker 1: about a lot of this, but it is Evan t
- 1:33Speaker 1: Rex Singleton and he is a unit. If I don't
- 1:37Speaker 1: mind saying so myself, he'll tell you his size, but
- 1:40Speaker 1: he's six six he's a monster. All right. Here we go.
- 1:43Speaker 1: We're talking now with the strongest man on Earth, Evan Singleton.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Evan Singleton is here. I call him Evan Strongman. But
- 1:51Speaker 1: we should say how we met? Can I say? I? Well, first, Hippa,
- 1:54Speaker 1: although I'm not a doctor, can I say how we met?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah? Please? Okay.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So I had ankle surgery and I go to physical
- 2:01Speaker 1: therapy and Evan was in physical therapy. But there was
- 2:05Speaker 1: a difference in us. Just sitting there, I could tell
- 2:08Speaker 1: just physically at us that there was difference. And you know,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you're just there and Evan looks like a friendly guy
- 2:15Speaker 1: or he looks like he killed you. One of the two.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I bet on friendly because he was. He was talking
- 2:22Speaker 1: to Daniel, the same physical therapist, and I was like,
- 2:26Speaker 1: hey man, what do you It almost felt like prison
- 2:28Speaker 1: in there, honestly, because you always want to know what
- 2:30Speaker 1: people do.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And yeah, I've.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Met like major League baseball players, I've met goalies. I
- 2:36Speaker 1: met someone who won the ND five hundred twice on
- 2:39Speaker 1: the same table that I met you.
- 2:41Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And now I'm always curious about people. And I'm like,
- 2:44Speaker 1: hey man, what's your name? And he's like, I'm Evan,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and I'm like and he's like, you know, getting worked
- 2:49Speaker 1: on in Daniel, who's our physical therapist, is like.
- 2:53Speaker 3: EV's like going to brag on himself.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So Daniel goes, you know, Evan is like world strongest man,
- 3:00Speaker 1: like that track looking at him, just looking at him.
- 3:03Speaker 3: He's huge man.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So so that's how we met. We were in physical
- 3:06Speaker 1: therapy together. I was getting my ankle worked on. What
- 3:10Speaker 1: were you injured?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yes, I I have recently had had surgery repairing my
- 3:16Speaker 3: pectoral tendon to my shoulder. Did you tear that? Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 3: the tenon came completely off the bone.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Was that in the middle of an at Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 3: It was at competition, and there was a competition that
- 3:29Speaker 3: was going on in Malta, and it was a competition
- 3:33Speaker 3: put on by Eddie Hall that we're looking to get
- 3:35Speaker 3: onto Netflix or Amazon, fingers crossed for that. But there
- 3:38Speaker 3: was a portion of the competition that was suma wrestling,
- 3:41Speaker 3: and when I engaged with somebody, yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 1: That's got to get on something.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah, the fact that you were suing. Do you know
- 3:49Speaker 4: how to sumo?
- 3:49Speaker 3: I don't know how to sumo, but I have a
- 3:51Speaker 3: lot of experience. I don't I don't know how to
- 3:53Speaker 3: sumo wrestle, but I do have a lot of experience
- 3:55Speaker 3: with combat sports. So wow, how's it? How is it?
- 3:58Speaker 1: By the way, how's the injury?
- 3:59Speaker 3: Oh it's I'm back to one. I'm back to full training.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I'm in my prep for World's Strongest Man. It's going
- 4:04Speaker 3: to be in the middle of April, and I'm feeling really,
- 4:06Speaker 3: really strong.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So to backup half a step, are you currently the
- 4:11Speaker 1: World's strongest Man?
- 4:13Speaker 3: I am currently the strongest man on Earth? So different titles, Yes,
- 4:18Speaker 3: they are different titles. So World's Strongest Man is the
- 4:20Speaker 3: one that you would see reruns on with like ESPN,
- 4:24Speaker 3: Strongest Man on Earth is a competition that was that
- 4:28Speaker 3: was they're taking they're taking a break this year and
- 4:31Speaker 3: they're bringing it back next year. To my understanding, strongest
- 4:35Speaker 3: Man on Earth is essentially the world's strongest man. But
- 4:38Speaker 3: the weights are the heaviest in the entire world.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So what are the things you do in competition in
- 4:43Speaker 1: World's Strongest Man?
- 4:45Speaker 3: So world's Strongest Man is a very I would say
- 4:48Speaker 3: it's a relatively solid mixture of strength and conditioning and speed.
- 4:53Speaker 3: So you need to have muscular endurance, you need to
- 4:55Speaker 3: have the strength, you need to have everything. There's a
- 4:57Speaker 3: lot of events where we're doing multiple repetition. You're doing
- 5:00Speaker 3: stuff for speed. I need to pick up three three
- 5:04Speaker 3: hundred pounds sandbags. I need to pick them up, run
- 5:07Speaker 3: fifty feet with them, put them on a table, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: then run back and grab the next one, and then
- 5:11Speaker 3: grab the next one, and then the fastest time who
- 5:13Speaker 3: can get all three on the table wins. Stuff like that.
- 5:15Speaker 3: How big the sandbag about three hundred to three hundred
- 5:17Speaker 3: and thirty pounds give or take, give her take.
- 5:20Speaker 4: We wouldn't be able to move one of the like nothing.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So then it to do that to train that? Does
- 5:24Speaker 1: that mean you own one three hundred pounds sand bag
- 5:26Speaker 1: that you would train with? Oh?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a I have a four hundred pound
- 5:29Speaker 3: sandbag that I can shoulder and do all of that
- 5:32Speaker 3: fun stuff with. I have at the I train over
- 5:34Speaker 3: at a gym five and I have everything that I
- 5:39Speaker 3: need to train there. I have got a big wooden
- 5:40Speaker 3: log that says t Rex on it. I have Atlas
- 5:44Speaker 3: stones that I can put on platforms and stuff. Does
- 5:47Speaker 3: that means I have there's a giant like imagine a
- 5:50Speaker 3: dodgeball made out of concrete that's twenty two inches wide.
- 5:54Speaker 3: That's that's about what I have, and that weighs anywhere
- 5:57Speaker 3: from two hundred and fifty two. My heaviest one is
- 6:00Speaker 3: worse sixty five.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And what's to go?
- 6:05Speaker 3: So at the stones essentially would be there'd be five
- 6:07Speaker 3: stones lined up in front of a platform, and you
- 6:10Speaker 3: need to pick every stone up and load it onto
- 6:12Speaker 3: the platform. And once you load the last stone onto
- 6:15Speaker 3: the platform, you take your hands off. That's when time stops.
- 6:17Speaker 3: The fast time wins.
- 6:19Speaker 1: In my world, I'd be cup stacking. I'd cup stack
- 6:21Speaker 1: and lift my hands.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of it's kind of like cupstacking, just heavy.
- 6:25Speaker 4: With heavy rocks.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah, just with heavy rocks, just with heavy rocks. This
- 6:30Speaker 3: is crazy.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So do you ever do like stuff like that just
- 6:34Speaker 4: for like, do build a house like and just put.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Is it training when you build a house?
- 6:39Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, Like like I understand in a gym
- 6:41Speaker 4: and all that training, but like I feel like you
- 6:43Speaker 4: could do that with like a stone house and well.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of a lot of daily activities for
- 6:48Speaker 3: the most part, are a lot easier because I'm so strong.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Like how big are you?
- 6:52Speaker 3: I am six foot six and three hundred and sixty pounds.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And what is the perfect weight for you at competition?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I would say it's between three sixty and three because
- 7:00Speaker 3: if I go over three seventy, I start to slow
- 7:02Speaker 3: down and that's kind of cost me time on the
- 7:05Speaker 3: moving events. What's your natural weight? You think if I
- 7:08Speaker 3: stopped force feeding? Because I force feed every single day.
- 7:11Speaker 3: If I stopped force feeding, I'd probably be somewhere around
- 7:14Speaker 3: three fifteen. What does that mean?
- 7:15Speaker 4: Force feed?
- 7:16Speaker 3: In order to do the heavy exercises and just the
- 7:19Speaker 3: exertion that I go through training every single day, I
- 7:22Speaker 3: need to eat a lot of calories I eat about
- 7:24Speaker 3: eight to nine thousand calories every day.
- 7:25Speaker 4: So even if you're not hungry, you just like, I've
- 7:27Speaker 4: got to keep eating.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I have to get the protein and the carbs in
- 7:30Speaker 3: force it. What what's that schedule? Then it's gotta be regimented.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's My first meal is six am and
- 7:36Speaker 3: that's five eggs, half a pound of bacon, and then
- 7:42Speaker 3: cherry danish and then a protein drink.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That seems to me to eating.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Would it be fun?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Then?
- 7:48Speaker 3: No? No, eating is terrible. I hate it. I don't
- 7:50Speaker 3: enjoy anything about eating at all.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Man.
- 7:53Speaker 3: That takes a joy away, it really does.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And it's expensive. Oh gotcha, right right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That's a great that's a great point.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, grocery bills every week. It's probably somewhere in
- 8:03Speaker 3: the five hundreds. Oh for you, Just no, it's just
- 8:08Speaker 3: for me. It doesn't even count my wife.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's wild. Okay, So where did this start? What
- 8:15Speaker 1: kind of athlete were you as a child?
- 8:17Speaker 3: So growing up, I grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and
- 8:20Speaker 3: it's big farm area, so that's pretty much all you
- 8:24Speaker 3: have to do is either be on a farm or
- 8:25Speaker 3: go out and play sports. So I played sports I
- 8:28Speaker 3: did everything at least once, and I really liked amateur wrestling,
- 8:31Speaker 3: so I decided to pursue amateur wrestling and I ended
- 8:35Speaker 3: up being nationally ranked my senior year, so I was
- 8:38Speaker 3: very happy about that.
- 8:39Speaker 1: What sides were you wrestling at?
- 8:40Speaker 3: I was heavyweight, so I wrestled at two forty five
- 8:43Speaker 3: and I was like six six three sixty four. Were
- 8:45Speaker 3: you dominant? Kind of? Yeah, that's awes well. I was
- 8:49Speaker 3: dominant because, and I attribute this to my wrestling coach,
- 8:53Speaker 3: and his style of coaching is when that whistle blows,
- 8:55Speaker 3: you just attack you. You you pushed the pace of
- 8:58Speaker 3: the match, and you are constantly moving forward. You'd never
- 9:02Speaker 3: give up an inch. So I brought that mentality into
- 9:04Speaker 3: my wrestling. So as soon as the whistle blew, I
- 9:07Speaker 3: tried to rip your head off.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Question, if you are that size, isn't that mentality a
- 9:12Speaker 1: little easier?
- 9:14Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Because I say it, I'll be a little more scared
- 9:16Speaker 1: by someone with that mentality if they were six four
- 9:18Speaker 1: two thirty. Then if I wrestling Eddie and that was his.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Mentality, a little diverent, I'd be like real quick.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And so, did you like wrestling or were you good
- 9:27Speaker 1: at wrestling both.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I loved wrestling, and wrestling still has a very very
- 9:33Speaker 3: very very important spot in my heart. It's the reason
- 9:36Speaker 3: why I have the mentality that I do as an athlete.
- 9:38Speaker 3: It's the reason why I have the determination and the
- 9:41Speaker 3: aggression that I do now when I train for strong
- 9:43Speaker 3: Man and all of that. I love wrestling. I love
- 9:46Speaker 3: everything about wrestling. And there's one sport that I would
- 9:48Speaker 3: wish I could go back and keep doing. It would
- 9:50Speaker 3: be wrestling.
- 9:51Speaker 1: So after high school, did you continue wrestling?
- 9:53Speaker 2: No?
- 9:53Speaker 3: After high school I got signed to the WWE, where
- 9:55Speaker 3: I became a professional wrestler.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I didn't know this. Yes, out of high school.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Out of high school, I had it when I was eighteen.
- 10:02Speaker 1: How did they approach you? How do they know about you?
- 10:04Speaker 3: Just from so? I was a big fan of pro
- 10:06Speaker 3: wrestling all my childhood. Me too, So I loved pro
- 10:10Speaker 3: wrestling and Kane. Oh that's a good one. Kane.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He was also a giant and he can move. Yep,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and that's that. That's an odd mix. Somebody that big
- 10:19Speaker 1: that could also was agile yep. Oh cool, okay, go ahead.
- 10:23Speaker 3: So after I graduated high school, I knew I wanted
- 10:26Speaker 3: to pursue professional wrestling, and my dad gave me like
- 10:31Speaker 3: a year before It's like, okay, i'll let you. You
- 10:33Speaker 3: can pursue this for a year and I'll help you
- 10:36Speaker 3: out when I can where I can. But if it's
- 10:39Speaker 3: not within a year, you got to tick up, like
- 10:41Speaker 3: you got to go to college and get further education.
- 10:43Speaker 3: And I had I for wrestling. I had rides to
- 10:45Speaker 3: Penn State. I had rides to Rutgers University, like full
- 10:48Speaker 3: rides and everything like that to be the wrestler, but
- 10:51Speaker 3: I turned them down because I wanted to pursue professional wrestling.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Did you go to Florida and train?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Uh?
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where I was school developmental. Yeah, I was
- 10:57Speaker 3: actually there when they try they transformed it from FDW
- 11:01Speaker 3: Florida Championship Wrestling to NXT, which is what it is now.
- 11:04Speaker 3: So I was in Florida. It's their like developmental program.
- 11:08Speaker 3: It's called NXT. It's where they'll bring people in to
- 11:11Speaker 3: try out. They'll bring them in who have no like
- 11:13Speaker 3: wrestling experience, and they'll kind of mold them into an
- 11:16Speaker 3: active wrestler and then that's when they'll start getting opportunities
- 11:19Speaker 3: to perform on shows. And then they can work their
- 11:22Speaker 3: way up into uh like Raw SmackDown, the main main shows.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So how was your experience there doing that?
- 11:29Speaker 3: It was mixed. It was mixed. I was very young,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and looking back at it, I didn't have a lot
- 11:33Speaker 3: of life experience to prepare me for everything that kind
- 11:36Speaker 3: of happened. A lot of stuff came at me at once,
- 11:38Speaker 3: and I wasn't really prepared mentally or emotionally for it,
- 11:42Speaker 3: and then unfortunately I ended up getting hurt. I got
- 11:45Speaker 3: a brain hemorrhage during a wrestling match, and.
- 11:48Speaker 1: In the middle of the match. Yeah, so I would
- 11:50Speaker 1: have thought you were like wrestling and had been like,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I got him now, Yeah, he's doing the brain kill.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Watch out with the brain kill.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Oh wow, I'm sorry that happened to you. You remember it?
- 12:03Speaker 3: No, I remember wrestling in the match up until the
- 12:07Speaker 3: point where I got slammed. What I got choke slammed
- 12:09Speaker 3: and I landed on the back of my head instead
- 12:11Speaker 3: on my back, so my head bounced against Matt rattled,
- 12:15Speaker 3: my brain broke, the inside of the left hemisphere of
- 12:18Speaker 3: my brain open, and I was bleeding in my skull
- 12:20Speaker 3: almost die. Yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 1: What do they tell you about that?
- 12:24Speaker 4: Uh?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Well, after about six months of no wrestling, no contact,
- 12:29Speaker 3: no physical strain at all. My neurologist essentially told me, like,
- 12:33Speaker 3: if you take another hit like that, it's going to
- 12:34Speaker 3: kill you, Like it'll reopen and then you'll bleed into
- 12:37Speaker 3: your skull until the pressure will condense your brain and
- 12:39Speaker 3: you'll die. How long were you in the hospital. I
- 12:42Speaker 3: was only in the hospital for Well. It's funny because
- 12:45Speaker 3: the on site medic actually sent me home and just
- 12:49Speaker 3: told me he thought it was a concussion. So he
- 12:51Speaker 3: sent me home and told me not to fall asleep
- 12:53Speaker 3: right away. So that was awesome. Keeping in mind, all
- 12:56Speaker 3: of this is just bringing it. All of this was
- 12:59Speaker 3: told to me by my roommate and other people that
- 13:02Speaker 3: I was interacting with. I still don't remember like two
- 13:06Speaker 3: to three months, Like from the moment of injury up
- 13:09Speaker 3: until two to three months, I have no recollection of
- 13:11Speaker 3: that at all. What's the first thing you remember after that? Then? Oh, gosh,
- 13:19Speaker 3: I would say probably going in to the training facility
- 13:24Speaker 3: and talking to the on site medic and talking about
- 13:26Speaker 3: my symptoms and everything that I had, because I had
- 13:28Speaker 3: a lot of symptoms going on at the time. I'm
- 13:31Speaker 3: really thankful that I don't have these issues anymore. For
- 13:34Speaker 3: the most part, I still have some stuff that I
- 13:36Speaker 3: deal with. But I had uncontrollable muscle tremors, like for
- 13:41Speaker 3: like maybe a fraction of a second, I would like
- 13:43Speaker 3: my body would tense up, like it was almost like
- 13:46Speaker 3: I was getting tasered for half.
- 13:47Speaker 1: A second and you didn't know when they were coming.
- 13:49Speaker 3: No, it was completely random. It would just happen randomly.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I couldn't drive.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Have they diagnosed that now?
- 13:55Speaker 3: No?
- 13:56Speaker 1: Does it still happen at all?
- 13:57Speaker 2: No?
- 13:58Speaker 1: Really?
- 13:58Speaker 3: Yeah, thankfully, that's that's like one of the few symptoms
- 14:02Speaker 3: that actually went away. My short term memory is still terrible.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I still obviously.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Anything my wife tells her.
- 14:13Speaker 3: That's just part of it.
- 14:15Speaker 1: How old were you? How long ago is this?
- 14:18Speaker 3: This was I'm thirty three now and it happened when
- 14:21Speaker 3: I was nineteen, So thirteen fourteen, thirteen fourteen? Did I did?
- 14:29Speaker 3: I did end up moving back home for a little while. Yeah.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And then are you lost as to well this was
- 14:34Speaker 1: my plan?
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean for the longest time, that was my dream.
- 14:37Speaker 3: That's what I wanted to do with my entire life,
- 14:39Speaker 3: was headline WrestleMania and b WW Champion and all that
- 14:43Speaker 3: and it's just gone.
- 14:45Speaker 1: So one last damn wrestling question. No, what was your name?
- 14:48Speaker 3: Adam Mercer? You could have done better? Yeah, yeah, is
- 14:51Speaker 3: this something you came up with? Yeah, we'll see how
- 14:53Speaker 3: it works with ww How it works with WWE is
- 14:57Speaker 3: when you first get to developmental, you come up with
- 14:59Speaker 3: a list of like fifteen to twenty names, and then
- 15:01Speaker 3: you send that up the ranks, and then they send
- 15:04Speaker 3: you that same list back with like three names that
- 15:07Speaker 3: they approve of, and then you pick from those three,
- 15:09Speaker 3: which one's your name?
- 15:10Speaker 4: And that was your first one, Adam Mercer, that was
- 15:12Speaker 4: the first one that just came back.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Why that name? I actually stole that from a video
- 15:16Speaker 3: game that I used to play. There was a video
- 15:18Speaker 3: game character from the game prototype. The main character's name
- 15:22Speaker 3: was Alex Mercer, and I just thought that that sounded cool.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So I'd like to protract my statement saying you could
- 15:27Speaker 1: have done better because you're bigger than I am. So
- 15:29Speaker 1: I would just like to say, hey, maybe if we
- 15:32Speaker 1: did it again, we'd picked ups on a more timidating.
- 15:34Speaker 1: You're pretty timating a gay.
- 15:35Speaker 3: So you go home.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I'm assuming you're like a bit lost, Like what what
- 15:39Speaker 1: do you start?
- 15:40Speaker 2: Like?
- 15:40Speaker 1: What do you think is next at that time of
- 15:41Speaker 1: your life?
- 15:42Speaker 3: Honestly, Like I wasn't even clear to exercise in the
- 15:45Speaker 3: gym or anything like that. So I got really unhealthy
- 15:47Speaker 3: and really out of shape. Like I started downing like
- 15:49Speaker 3: two leaders of Mountain dew every day in a whole
- 15:52Speaker 3: pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and like, I just
- 15:55Speaker 3: had no motivation. Diet was nonexistent, size was non existent.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Everything was just awful. It felt like I was in purgatory.
- 16:04Speaker 3: And then I finally got the green light from my
- 16:07Speaker 3: neurologist to start exercising again. So I looked at myself
- 16:10Speaker 3: in the mirror. I'm like almost three I'm almost four
- 16:13Speaker 3: hundred pounds of just chewed bubble gum. And I hated
- 16:16Speaker 3: what I looked like in the mirror. So I was like,
- 16:20Speaker 3: I want to like what I see in the mirror again.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna what's what's the most like esthetically pleasing thing
- 16:25Speaker 3: that comes to mind? Bodybuilding? You're shredded, you have giant muscles,
- 16:30Speaker 3: you you look awesome. So I'm going to pursue that.
- 16:34Speaker 3: So I ended up pursuing that, and I ended up
- 16:35Speaker 3: dropping like one hundred and forty one hundred and fifty
- 16:39Speaker 3: pounds and jumping on a professional bodybuilding stage in New York.
- 16:44Speaker 1: So you were a professional bodybuilder as well.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Once I did one show, so that no, that counts.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Did you win it?
- 16:51Speaker 3: I did not. I got top three, though, so that
- 16:53Speaker 3: was cool.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I would say, if you murder one person, you're a murderer.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So if you did, if you did, if you did
- 17:00Speaker 1: fair enough one professional bodybuilding competition, you're a professional bodybuilder
- 17:04Speaker 1: at least were you had a career?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Is that?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Did you enjoy that or no?
- 17:08Speaker 3: I liked having a six pack and being shredded and
- 17:10Speaker 3: all that. That was awesome. I've never been that lean
- 17:13Speaker 3: before in my life, so that was cool to experience.
- 17:15Speaker 3: But it was absolutely miserable and I hated it.
- 17:17Speaker 1: No which part of it?
- 17:18Speaker 3: Diet? I'm a fat kid at heart. So when all
- 17:22Speaker 3: I have to eat is boiled chicken, broccoli and white
- 17:24Speaker 3: rice six times a day, that's not it. And then
- 17:28Speaker 3: I have to do two hours of cardio, that's terrible.
- 17:30Speaker 4: It's not living.
- 17:30Speaker 3: That's not living.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I feel like you take two terrible eating lanes though.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It's what it's like. You're only eating, like, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: a piece of chicken and a plant, a leaf, or
- 17:38Speaker 1: you're eating eighteen pounds of bacon in the morning.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but at least eating eighteen pounds of bacon in
- 17:44Speaker 3: the morning, at least I get to have like dessert
- 17:45Speaker 3: and candy. And that's true.
- 17:46Speaker 1: When you said Danish, I was like, yes, yeah, cherry Danish.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Terry Danish, like all the other stuff sounds too much terry.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Danish as you get from Costco when they're fresh off. Wow,
- 17:56Speaker 3: they're so good. They're so good.
- 17:59Speaker 4: The hemorrhage I don't understand, because I would think that
- 18:02Speaker 4: if you had a brain bleed and now you're just
- 18:06Speaker 4: carrying hair, heavy, heavy things, putting a lot of strength,
- 18:11Speaker 4: like is does the doctor like, hey, you can't keep
- 18:13Speaker 4: doing that.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I was advised this wasn't recently though, Like when it
- 18:18Speaker 3: was around the time that I started exercising again and
- 18:20Speaker 3: starting started trying to get back in shape, they were
- 18:22Speaker 3: pretty out of it, like take this slow and slowly
- 18:25Speaker 3: introduce your body back to it. Yeah. The doctors were
- 18:29Speaker 3: kind of, I don't want to say baffled, but like
- 18:32Speaker 3: they they weren't necessarily prepared for me to be like, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 3: I've been going to the gym like five times a
- 18:36Speaker 3: week and the strain is not bothering me at all.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I think that that answer kind of like made them
- 18:43Speaker 3: scratch their head a little bit. But to this day,
- 18:45Speaker 3: like like, obviously I do the whole pass out thing
- 18:48Speaker 3: every once in a while, but that just what do
- 18:53Speaker 3: you mean? In heavy lifting with like powerlifting, strong man
- 18:57Speaker 3: and all of that, sometimes the pressure builds too much
- 19:00Speaker 3: in your head when you're lifting and guys pass out.
- 19:04Speaker 4: What That's what I'm talking abouts.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Not a super super frequent thing, but it does happen.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I mean you can type in onto YouTube. I won't,
- 19:12Speaker 3: but I'm a powerlifter passes out and they'll they'll pick
- 19:14Speaker 3: up a heavy deadlift and then they'll drop it and
- 19:17Speaker 3: then just the blood rush to their head and it
- 19:19Speaker 3: will make them pass out and then just fall over.
- 19:21Speaker 3: But then they get back up on the deal.
- 19:23Speaker 1: That's normal in that culture.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Yes, it has nothing to do with past hemorrhage.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Has you ever going to do it? Do you ever
- 19:29Speaker 3: see the Anatoley videos? Yes?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Comment I watch those twenty at a time. And for
- 19:37Speaker 1: those that don't know he does this bit and I don't,
- 19:40Speaker 1: I didn't know one other than the bit at first
- 19:42Speaker 1: where he's dressed like a janitor, and he's like, oh,
- 19:44Speaker 1: the he looks heavy and these guys are massive and
- 19:47Speaker 1: they're they're doing all this deadlift and he's like, I
- 19:50Speaker 1: need to move it because I need to sweep under this,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and they're like, man, we're Nimila doing deadlift. He's like it,
- 19:54Speaker 1: don't just take one second and then he lifts it
- 19:56Speaker 1: up himself like walks heavy. Yes, it's so funny to me.
- 20:00Speaker 1: You ever met that guy?
- 20:02Speaker 3: I have never met that guy, but he gets tagged
- 20:03Speaker 3: in my videos all the time. He's never like, done
- 20:06Speaker 3: that trick to you though, where you like, I remember
- 20:09Speaker 3: once at Strongest Man on Earth. Actually, last year I
- 20:11Speaker 3: deadlifted eleven hundred and thirty four pounds. How does a
- 20:14Speaker 3: bar even hold that? That's a different question. But anyway,
- 20:17Speaker 3: they were covered in like Hummer tires and stuff, so
- 20:19Speaker 3: it was really cool looking. But I posted that online
- 20:23Speaker 3: and then like half the comments are yeah, but I
- 20:26Speaker 3: totally or whatever his name is, like he just call
- 20:29Speaker 3: him in and he'll make that look super effortless, and
- 20:31Speaker 3: it's just like, guys, come on, I was proud of
- 20:34Speaker 3: this lifting. Now you're making it into a joke. What
- 20:39Speaker 3: was a weight again? On eleven hundred and thirty four pounds.
- 20:41Speaker 1: What's what's your pr for deadlift?
- 20:44Speaker 3: On a straight bar, It's one thousand and ten pounds,
- 20:47Speaker 3: and then on a trap bar it's eleven thirty four.

- 22:18Speaker 1: I have a trap bar. I like the trap bar.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That makes sense, it'd be a little more. Why is
- 22:23Speaker 1: DAK The base is.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's it's a couple of things. The neutral grip, like
- 22:28Speaker 3: you have a trap bar, like you, we're the same.
- 22:31Speaker 1: We're saying, yeah, go ahead, tell them because I know obviously,
- 22:33Speaker 1: but tell them so.
- 22:34Speaker 3: With the trap bar, it's a neutral grip, and that
- 22:37Speaker 3: just aligns with your body's natural anatomy a little bit better.
- 22:39Speaker 3: It's easier to like, essentially like press it. It's why
- 22:42Speaker 3: people with a strong leg press and a squat are
- 22:44Speaker 3: typically better at trap bar than regular deadlift.
- 22:46Speaker 1: When I regular deadlift, I prefer I don't know what
- 22:51Speaker 1: mixed grip.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Okay, that's that's one up, one down like money.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Is that allowed? Yeah, you're allowed to do that.
- 22:57Speaker 3: It's not recommended because in strong Man we're to use
- 23:00Speaker 3: straps to strap onto the bar. And if your one
- 23:05Speaker 3: arm is underhand grip and you strap in like that
- 23:10Speaker 3: and you have an excess amount of weight when you're deadlifting,
- 23:12Speaker 3: that could put your bicep in serious wrists.
- 23:14Speaker 1: That's why, Oh you have scar, you have like things
- 23:16Speaker 1: in your arms, Yeah, I have.
- 23:18Speaker 3: That's from when I tore my distal ten in at
- 23:21Speaker 3: World's Strongest Man trying to clean and press a two
- 23:24Speaker 3: hundred and thirty pounds dumbbell, a single dumbell. Yeah. So
- 23:28Speaker 3: I clean it with both arms from the ground. Yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 3: and I take one away and then I press with
- 23:32Speaker 3: one arm.
- 23:34Speaker 4: What did that feel when it's snapped?
- 23:35Speaker 2: Like?
- 23:35Speaker 3: What are you bell crow tearing? Like pulling belcrow apart?
- 23:39Speaker 4: Do you hear that?
- 23:39Speaker 3: Yeah? So it sounds like a pop.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I feel like it's just a Tuesday for you and
- 23:44Speaker 1: things are ripping like you're lifting such such heavy weights
- 23:47Speaker 1: all the time.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I'm just used to it another Thursday noon.
- 23:51Speaker 1: It's my Thursday at noon.
- 23:54Speaker 4: It's I guess to fill out.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I mean, I've torn my biceps three times, I've torn
- 23:59Speaker 3: my peck ten in and I've shattered both my feet.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I've thrown my back out, i had nerve damage in
- 24:05Speaker 3: my neck. I've done a whole bunch of stuff to myself.
- 24:07Speaker 1: When did you start knowing the strongest man on Earth
- 24:10Speaker 1: was a.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Thing like strong man in general?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah, twenty five. It was after my bodybuilding show. I
- 24:18Speaker 3: wanted to age twenty five.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Yeah, going to say, cause last year, man, you've come
- 24:22Speaker 1: a long way. If it's just this last year, I.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Wish, I wish. But I've known about straw Man for
- 24:29Speaker 3: a little while now, about eight eight nine years now,
- 24:32Speaker 3: and I started competing at twenty five, and before that
- 24:35Speaker 3: I didn't even know what straw Man was.
- 24:37Speaker 1: How was your first experience in competition?
- 24:39Speaker 3: I won, and it qualified me for the pro show.
- 24:43Speaker 3: So it's not a system that we use anymore. But
- 24:48Speaker 3: when I started competing, they did something called platinum plus shows,
- 24:51Speaker 3: and a platinum plus show is like an amateur show.
- 24:53Speaker 3: And the winner of the Open Heavyweight, which is what
- 24:56Speaker 3: I competed in. If you won that, you would get
- 24:59Speaker 3: an invite to a show so you can go compete
- 25:01Speaker 3: with the pro guys. And I competed in a Platinum
- 25:04Speaker 3: Plus show my first show. I want it and I
- 25:06Speaker 3: want to go compete with the pros. That was the
- 25:08Speaker 3: World's Strongest Man qualifying tour.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Did you know Platin Plus was also a strip club
- 25:11Speaker 1: in Memphis?
- 25:12Speaker 3: I did not know that.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, because in college some of my friends would drive
- 25:15Speaker 1: over and they'd be like, I met the stripper. She's
- 25:17Speaker 1: in love with me, and I'd be like like, no,
- 25:19Speaker 1: she's not. They're like no, no, We drove through and
- 25:21Speaker 1: they go to Plantem Plus like once a month from
- 25:23Speaker 1: in the middle of Arkansas. I don't think that's open anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 1: So when you when you win that and when you
- 25:34Speaker 1: walk in the very first time you're performing, do you
- 25:36Speaker 1: look around and go I think I can compete or
- 25:38Speaker 1: it is visually? Does that not really always matter? What's
- 25:43Speaker 1: the side what someone looks like?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Oh no, what somebody looks like is completely irrelevant. We've
- 25:47Speaker 3: got guys that are morbidly obese. We've got guys that
- 25:50Speaker 3: are really small and under three hundred pounds. We've got
- 25:53Speaker 3: everywhere in between. I compete with guys that are six nine, but.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They can Some guys that you don't think and go
- 25:58Speaker 1: can go yeah like they maybe smaller, or they maybe
- 26:01Speaker 1: but they.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Still absolutely or the opposite, somebody that looks like, oh man,
- 26:04Speaker 4: they're so strong.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I run into that a couple of times. There's guys
- 26:06Speaker 3: bigger than me that I beat on a regular basis.
- 26:09Speaker 1: So you when, for the sake of my knowledge, the
- 26:12Speaker 1: prelam to get into a pro it's that insulting. No, okay, no,
- 26:17Speaker 1: you go into the pro event. How did you do there?
- 26:19Speaker 3: I ended up coming in like eighth place.
- 26:21Speaker 1: How many people are there?
- 26:23Speaker 3: Twelve?
- 26:23Speaker 1: And do you feel like that's a victory since that's
- 26:25Speaker 1: your first ever professional show?
- 26:27Speaker 2: No?
- 26:27Speaker 1: Oh, y oh, you were disappointed with it. I was
- 26:29Speaker 1: disappointed with that because my strength was there.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I know that I could have done better because my
- 26:33Speaker 3: strength was there to win the show. But it was
- 26:35Speaker 3: my second competition ever. I made a lot of rookie mistakes,
- 26:38Speaker 3: like what's a mistake that you make? Then my hand
- 26:41Speaker 3: placement on stuff like like a frame carry like a
- 26:44Speaker 3: big wooden frame with handles on the inside of it.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Instead of staggering my grip a little bit to keep
- 26:49Speaker 3: the thing leveled, I didn't do that, and I just
- 26:51Speaker 3: picked it straight up like normal, and then it would
- 26:53Speaker 3: the frame would like tip forward, scrape across ground, slow
- 26:56Speaker 3: me down, make it harder to move. Did you ever
- 26:57Speaker 3: do that thing where you take the ball and you
- 26:58Speaker 3: thought over the top of that thing?
- 27:00Speaker 4: You ever see that?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Uh?
- 27:03Speaker 3: I do a variation of that.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Like I just remember watching that show that you were
- 27:07Speaker 1: talking about. Used to come on ESPN. They would take
- 27:09Speaker 1: they'd be in the sand, they would take something a heavy,
- 27:11Speaker 1: heavy medicine, maybe a medicine ball.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Oh, you might be thinking of a kettlebelly.
- 27:15Speaker 1: It's a kettlebell.
- 27:16Speaker 3: We've done kettlebells, kegs and sandbags.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Oh I've seen the kegs.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and then we throw them over. Do you do
- 27:22Speaker 3: that thing? Yep? How do you train for that?
- 27:24Speaker 1: I have?
- 27:26Speaker 3: So what I have is at my gym as a yoke.
- 27:29Speaker 3: That's when I get underneath it, I stand up and
- 27:31Speaker 3: then I run with it. That has giant pillars on it.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I put PVC pipes in the pillars and then I
- 27:36Speaker 3: connect a rubber band at like twelve to fifteen feet
- 27:39Speaker 3: and that gives me the height that I need and
- 27:40Speaker 3: then I just have the sandbags that I just practice with.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Do you hate training? It feels miserable. I love training.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You love going to work.
- 27:48Speaker 3: That man that is.
- 27:50Speaker 4: That's why he does it. Have you pulled the eighteen wheeler?
- 27:54Speaker 3: Yeah? I pulled a seven forty seven? Actually, are you airplane? Okay?
- 27:59Speaker 1: I was thinking like that.
- 28:03Speaker 3: It's a massive, a big commercial airplane. How'd that happen?
- 28:07Speaker 3: Where was that? That was actually in Florida. I had
- 28:09Speaker 3: a good time doing that. And one of my buddies
- 28:11Speaker 3: worked on an air on an air base like a
- 28:14Speaker 3: like a private runway essentially, and he was like, I know,
- 28:18Speaker 3: you do the strong man thing. You want to get
- 28:19Speaker 3: a couple of guys together.
- 28:20Speaker 1: An It wasn't a competition, No, this was just let's
- 28:22Speaker 1: just go pull seven. That's crazy.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Well, are you familiar with monster trucks at all?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:28Speaker 3: So in World Strongest Man twenty nineteen, they tethered Monster
- 28:32Speaker 3: jam and Gravedigger together and then I pulled them both
- 28:35Speaker 3: at the same time.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Wow, that's why Digger was the grave Digger when I
- 28:41Speaker 1: was a kid. Grave Digger yeah, because I had Bigfoot
- 28:43Speaker 1: and Grave Digger too, like two toy trucks. So now
- 28:48Speaker 1: do you ever just like want to show people how
- 28:50Speaker 1: strong you are and be like, yeah I can. Oh,
- 28:51Speaker 1: like of a car, like a small car and it's
- 28:54Speaker 1: parallel parts and it's like it needs to be moved.
- 28:56Speaker 4: I love it.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Could you just lift it out?
- 28:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah? Oh yeah?
- 28:59Speaker 4: Or like you go to the parking lot and like
- 29:01Speaker 4: there's somebody double parked there in the line, Ah, we
- 29:03Speaker 4: can move back far.
- 29:04Speaker 3: I've been waiting for the opportunity. I've been waiting for
- 29:07Speaker 3: the opportunity. I really really just once in my life
- 29:10Speaker 3: want to see a smart car double park so I
- 29:12Speaker 3: can literally just flip it into one space.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Please call us, Please call us when you do that.
- 29:16Speaker 1: That's a TikTok video for sure. So you won the
- 29:22Speaker 1: Last Strongest Man on Earth? Yes? Going into that, did
- 29:25Speaker 1: you feel like like you were a favorite to win it?
- 29:27Speaker 3: I did? I really did. The events were very good
- 29:30Speaker 3: for me. I was going into it super confident, mentally healthy,
- 29:34Speaker 3: physically healthy, and like all of my training leading up
- 29:37Speaker 3: to it was just going great. I went into it
- 29:40Speaker 3: very confident.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Do you ever lift more than you do? You ever
- 29:44Speaker 1: said prs at these events because your adrenalines.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Also. Oh yeah, absolutely so when I'm when I'm performing,
- 29:49Speaker 3: I usually perform anywhere between. There's usually a crowd of
- 29:54Speaker 3: anywhere between four to eight thousand people, depending on where
- 29:59Speaker 3: it is at the event. Yeah, at the event. Yeah so,
- 30:02Speaker 3: and I'm like WWE and just my personality, I'm a showman.
- 30:06Speaker 3: I like to put on a good show. So when
- 30:08Speaker 3: I get the crowd like behind me and they start
- 30:09Speaker 3: cheering for me and everything like that, that's that's like
- 30:12Speaker 3: adrenaline that I can't recreate. Like that's that fuels me
- 30:16Speaker 3: to go much harder and faster than I ever could
- 30:19Speaker 3: in training.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Have you ever been surprised, as you said, a personal
- 30:23Speaker 1: record because you're like, holy crap.
- 30:24Speaker 3: I just did it. I've never done it before. Oh yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Do you show it on your face or are you just
- 30:27Speaker 1: like yeah, Oh.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I usually am pretty I'm usually pretty animated when I
- 30:32Speaker 3: had a really heavy lift, especially when I know it's
- 30:34Speaker 3: good points for the competition.
- 30:36Speaker 1: What do the other competitors know you as uh annoying?
- 30:41Speaker 3: Why guys? Oh no, I'm just joking. I'm straw Man
- 30:45Speaker 3: has had straw Man has had a very very consistent
- 30:49Speaker 3: flow of athletes where it's walk onto the platform, lift wave,
- 30:55Speaker 3: walk off like and when I'm doing it, I have
- 30:59Speaker 3: smelling salts, my ammonia salts that I smell. I'll give like,
- 31:02Speaker 3: I'll I'll head butt like a squat racker something like that.
- 31:07Speaker 3: I'll have my coach.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Get you had brain injury, remember that, Just making sure
- 31:12Speaker 1: I'm fully aware of it.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Sometimes I'm fully aware that the doctors watching right, I'm
- 31:17Speaker 3: fully aware that it's it's terrible for me and I
- 31:20Speaker 3: should stop doing it, but I'm not going to because
- 31:21Speaker 3: it works.
- 31:23Speaker 4: But how hard do you head butt? Like just oh yeah, yeah, no,
- 31:29Speaker 4: is it cartilage?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we quit that.
- 31:33Speaker 3: You know, maybe I'll stop doing it when it stops working. Okay,
- 31:37Speaker 3: fair enough, Hey, man, just let them do No. I
- 31:40Speaker 3: know I'm not telling them again.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I got messed up earlier being like, man, we could
- 31:43Speaker 1: do better with a name.
- 31:44Speaker 3: No no, no, no, no, you're doing him.
- 31:47Speaker 1: So when you win last year, was that the first
- 31:49Speaker 1: year that you actually finished first?
- 31:50Speaker 3: Yes, that was my first world title win. How awesome
- 31:53Speaker 3: is that?
- 31:53Speaker 2: Oh?
- 31:54Speaker 3: It was like seven eight years in the making, Like
- 31:57Speaker 3: because at World's Strongest Man, I've had a history of
- 32:00Speaker 3: like something bad happening that's costing me the title, tearing
- 32:04Speaker 3: a bicep or a PEC ten and or like getting
- 32:08Speaker 3: sick before the show even starts, like just over and
- 32:11Speaker 3: over and over again, just these random acts of just
- 32:14Speaker 3: bullshit that it's essentially taken away my ability to perform
- 32:18Speaker 3: and to be able to go out and win a
- 32:20Speaker 3: world level title. Like like there was a part where
- 32:22Speaker 3: I just broke down and cried in the hotel room
- 32:24Speaker 3: after you won, after I won, Yeah, I took the
- 32:26Speaker 3: trophy back to the hotel room, showered, and I was
- 32:28Speaker 3: just like, finally did it. Because you always get to
- 32:33Speaker 3: be that now. Yeah, I'm I am the strongest man
- 32:35Speaker 3: on Earth until the day I die. And I love that.
- 32:39Speaker 3: See That's why I like chasing titles over world records,
- 32:43Speaker 3: because everybody's always like, oh, the world record deadlift, this
- 32:45Speaker 3: a world record deadlift that. It's just like, yeah, but
- 32:48Speaker 3: eventually someone's gonna come along and beat your record. You're
- 32:50Speaker 3: not the deadlift world record holder anymore. But if I
- 32:53Speaker 3: win World Strongest Man, I'm world strongest Man.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Forever, and I'm dancing Win Stars Champion forever.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Kyle, look at you too.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I mean, there'll be other dnswers that wins, but for
- 33:03Speaker 1: that season, I won. But I'll always be that.
- 33:05Speaker 4: What's the point though of And I'm not arguing with you,
- 33:09Speaker 4: but what's the point.
- 33:10Speaker 1: We're all scared?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Now?
- 33:13Speaker 3: Hey, what question you wanted to ask you?
- 33:16Speaker 4: What's the point of being the strongest dude and not telling?
- 33:20Speaker 1: Like you saw Bobby in this Yeah, he can tell me.
- 33:23Speaker 1: He would never tell me. He wouldn't have told me
- 33:25Speaker 1: tell him.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I'm just like like I I I deal with a
- 33:29Speaker 3: lot of personalities on a regular basis because of what
- 33:32Speaker 3: I do for a quote unquote real job, and then
- 33:37Speaker 3: like my history doing strong Man and just Jim culture
- 33:40Speaker 3: in general, I run into a lot of people who
- 33:42Speaker 3: just are arrogant, who just undeserved entitlement and think that
- 33:46Speaker 3: there's somebody when they're not. And it's just I try
- 33:49Speaker 3: not to be I try not to be over over
- 33:53Speaker 3: sharing with with my accomplishments because I don't want to
- 33:55Speaker 3: come off like that, you know what I mean?
- 33:57Speaker 4: But you are that though, you know what I mean.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I looked at him and I thought I was a golfer.
- 34:02Speaker 1: This guy looks like he plays on the tour on
- 34:03Speaker 1: the PGA tour. Yeah, no, that he wouldn't have told me.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I mean he had Daniel Lot told me. I would
- 34:08Speaker 1: have never known. And I was so interested. I messaged
- 34:10Speaker 1: I literally as soon as you left, I've followed him
- 34:13Speaker 1: and I was like, dude, you got to come up
- 34:14Speaker 1: because I just have so many questions about it. So cool.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Then the holiday's hitting and so for me, this has
- 34:18Speaker 1: been like a thrill to just get to know your
- 34:21Speaker 1: story and like your world's strongest man. What I worry about.
- 34:25Speaker 1: What I wonder about is you tore your peg, but
- 34:27Speaker 1: now you've got to compete in a month. Have you
- 34:30Speaker 1: been able to train at the level that you usually
- 34:33Speaker 1: train because you've been injured?
- 34:34Speaker 3: I have. Yeah. See, It's it's funny because I've been
- 34:38Speaker 3: injured a lot in my career, but the strong man
- 34:40Speaker 3: community has kind of gifted me with the nickname Wolverine
- 34:44Speaker 3: because I just have a history of just bouncing back
- 34:46Speaker 3: from injury so fast and healing, and I like to
- 34:51Speaker 3: take credit for that because I go above and beyond
- 34:54Speaker 3: when it comes to my recovery, because I hate sitting
- 34:56Speaker 3: on the sideline and I don't like not doing what
- 34:59Speaker 3: I do, So like when guys will do their rehab
- 35:04Speaker 3: like twice a week. They'll go see Daniel twice a week,
- 35:06Speaker 3: and then the rest of the week they're just kind
- 35:08Speaker 3: of relaxing and letting their body recover. Like I'm hitting,
- 35:10Speaker 3: I'm doing rehab stuff at home or at the gym,
- 35:13Speaker 3: and at the rehab center three times a day.
- 35:16Speaker 1: I why I wanted to hire you to train me. Would
- 35:19Speaker 1: you let somebody pay you to train?
- 35:20Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so they want to impress you, because that's
- 35:23Speaker 1: what I would. I ended up having a brain imager
- 35:25Speaker 1: doing min press. Trust me, I promise you I watched this.
- 35:31Speaker 3: You'll train people. Yeah, but for strong man or for
- 35:33Speaker 3: like No, No, I do general fitness as well. I
- 35:36Speaker 3: have one guy who I actually trained before I came
- 35:38Speaker 3: in here. Nice kid, never been in the gym a
- 35:42Speaker 3: day in his life, so I've just been getting giving
- 35:44Speaker 3: in the basics and building his strength and he's put
- 35:46Speaker 3: on like fifteen pounds of muscle.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Do you get impatient with people like that though, just
- 35:50Speaker 4: because you've been doing your whole life and they haven't.
- 35:52Speaker 3: No, No, I understand the level that I'm at doesn't
- 35:58Speaker 3: give me any right to treat anybody any differently. Like
- 36:01Speaker 3: we're all people we're all on our journey, whether it's fitness,
- 36:04Speaker 3: whether it's business, whether it's anything. We're all at different levels,
- 36:07Speaker 3: but we're all. We're all people.
- 36:09Speaker 1: What do you What do I get wrong? General public
- 36:13Speaker 1: get wrong about when we work out, because like I'll
- 36:16Speaker 1: be like, should I be maxing on bach press zero percent? No, Corey, Yeah, yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 1: of course I don't do that.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Well. The thing, the thing that I see with a
- 36:26Speaker 3: lot of guys, this is mostly guys, and I hear
- 36:30Speaker 3: I see it so much. It's it's they constantly push
- 36:36Speaker 3: their body to the absolute max with certain lifts, deadlift,
- 36:39Speaker 3: bench press, anything like that on a regular basis. And
- 36:42Speaker 3: that's not how you build strength. If you're testing your
- 36:44Speaker 3: your one rep max every week, your one rep max
- 36:47Speaker 3: is going to stay the same every single week. So
- 36:50Speaker 3: how do I How do I get stronger? You need volume,
- 36:53Speaker 3: so lighter, lighter, but more Yes, So, like let's say
- 36:57Speaker 3: instead of going for a one rep max on bench press,
- 37:00Speaker 3: the next couple of weeks, I have you doing four
- 37:02Speaker 3: sets of ten to fifteen, and then I'll have you
- 37:05Speaker 3: do one week, I would have you do a sets
- 37:08Speaker 3: of eight, but the weight's a little bit heavier, and
- 37:10Speaker 3: then we would just progressively up and up and up,
- 37:13Speaker 3: and I would have you do that rotation for maybe
- 37:16Speaker 3: eight to ten weeks and then we can retest your
- 37:19Speaker 3: one rep max again.

- 38:28Speaker 3: What is.
- 38:30Speaker 1: A left that people do that probably is so old
- 38:32Speaker 1: school they probably shouldn't do it anymore.
- 38:35Speaker 3: I this is just I'm probably gonna get heat for this,
- 38:37Speaker 3: But I I never understood calf raises. I think calfraises
- 38:41Speaker 3: are pointless. Same get you can get big calves in
- 38:45Speaker 3: other ways. I can't. I've tried to do it.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I've done everything we've talked about this calf raises until
- 38:49Speaker 1: the sun comes home. Those things still look like freaking toothpicks.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Like what could I do? Then? Do you squat?
- 38:54Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 38:55Speaker 3: How have you? Uh? Pretty give me a percentage of
- 38:58Speaker 3: like one hundred percent being maximum effort?
- 39:01Speaker 1: Oh, I mean I could probably just tell you. Wait,
- 39:03Speaker 1: so I weigh about one seventy If I'm going to
- 39:06Speaker 1: do like a set of four, okay, two sixty five
- 39:10Speaker 1: or so, it's not bad. Yeah, I mean for a
- 39:13Speaker 1: thinnish guy, I'm pretty strong.
- 39:16Speaker 3: That's not about at all.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Say yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure, day all right,
- 39:20Speaker 1: for sure, dey, all right, but my caps again smaller.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Actually I don't even have cats anymore. It goes try
- 39:25Speaker 1: angle to knee, so like my so, but do you
- 39:28Speaker 1: say squats are a big part of that.
- 39:30Speaker 3: That's one part of it, because you're you're working your
- 39:33Speaker 3: cats when you're doing any kind of full body movement
- 39:35Speaker 3: like squat, deadlift, stuff like that. So I would recommend
- 39:37Speaker 3: just doing volume with other exercises, including that targeting the
- 39:42Speaker 3: calves with seated or standing calf raises. Just I don't know,
- 39:45Speaker 3: never did anything for me, and like plianame metrics stuff,
- 39:48Speaker 3: I like biometric stuff. Do you do them?
- 39:50Speaker 1: I do? I do.
- 39:51Speaker 3: My coach has me doing jump the jumps where I'll
- 39:55Speaker 3: literally just maximum max max distance jump three times in
- 39:59Speaker 3: a row without resetting. So just jump jump jump. I
- 40:03Speaker 3: do box jumps. I do all kinds of shit, all
- 40:05Speaker 3: kinds of ship like that.
- 40:06Speaker 1: What do you do anything physical as far as exercise
- 40:11Speaker 1: that's not lifting.
- 40:12Speaker 3: I do jiu jitsu? Oh my god, can you imagine
- 40:15Speaker 3: on the ground with him?
- 40:16Speaker 4: Yeah, your first day in class?
- 40:17Speaker 3: All right, guy, Yeah, I do jiu jitsu and I
- 40:25Speaker 3: shoot guns jiu jitsu.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Man, that's tough.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Have you done m m A, because you you were
- 40:32Speaker 4: talking about combat sports like.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu. I've done a little bit of kickboxing,
- 40:36Speaker 3: but nothing notable, just honestly just kind of a fitness class.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Kind of Have you seen the slapping competition?
- 40:43Speaker 3: Fun fact about that. Don't do it. You had a
- 40:45Speaker 3: brain hemorrhage. Ude, No, I'm not. I'm not doing that
- 40:49Speaker 3: as an athlete. Hell no, I'm never doing that. But
- 40:53Speaker 3: I actually got invited, Me and another guy from World
- 40:56Speaker 3: Strongest Man got invited to be the uh the guest
- 40:59Speaker 3: catchers for when guys get slapped and they go unconscious,
- 41:02Speaker 3: there's guys there to catch them just really hit the ground.
- 41:04Speaker 3: That's me and another guy from World Strongest Man were
- 41:07Speaker 3: invited to be special guest catchers for their first super
- 41:10Speaker 3: heavyweight out, So we.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Need strong guys.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Did you know they had guest just touchers at all.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Oh yeah, because they fall backwards and they get caught.
- 41:17Speaker 4: It's to stop them from I don't know they had
- 41:19Speaker 4: guest ones.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I thought I catch like that was a legitimate like
- 41:21Speaker 1: a job. Do people see you and go what are you?
- 41:27Speaker 3: Because you're something.
- 41:31Speaker 1: If it's like if you were to see a six
- 41:32Speaker 1: ten guy who looks kind of athletic, you would go,
- 41:35Speaker 1: what are you a volleyball player? Basketball player?
- 41:38Speaker 2: Oh?
- 41:38Speaker 3: I get that a lot. In America, I get football
- 41:40Speaker 3: player a lot, and then and then over in Europe,
- 41:43Speaker 3: I usually am recognized. Oh so in Europe, strong man's
- 41:48Speaker 3: a lot more popular in Europe than it is here.
- 41:51Speaker 3: That's like in Sync in the early days, what do
- 41:53Speaker 3: you mean? Yeah?
- 41:53Speaker 1: In Sync went the year they got big in Europe first,
- 41:55Speaker 1: really Yeah, in Sync and Battery Boys both I did
- 41:58Speaker 1: not know Sync. Yeah, you're you're in sinking about your voice?
- 42:01Speaker 4: Yeah, and.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Me too, and they were. They were massive, and they
- 42:08Speaker 1: came to America and they really weren't yet. They were
- 42:10Speaker 1: kind of known, but they blew up over there first.
- 42:11Speaker 1: They're basically Evan O. You feel good though, now? Yeah?
- 42:16Speaker 3: I feel much better now. Man, that's so cool.
- 42:20Speaker 1: It's like if I saw i'd just been like, I
- 42:23Speaker 1: would be intimidated to ask what you are, but I
- 42:26Speaker 1: would know you were something because you're You're too physically
- 42:29Speaker 1: dominating to not be even It's just like a muscular
- 42:33Speaker 1: guy You're just not that, like there's something elite about
- 42:36Speaker 1: what you're doing. Even I saw you, I knew you
- 42:39Speaker 1: were doing something, but I was like, I wonder what
- 42:40Speaker 1: that guy even is. Like sometimes I think they're like
- 42:43Speaker 1: lizard people aliens. I thought possibly, possibly he was that.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And you still have fun doing it?
- 42:49Speaker 3: Oh, I have a blast doing it. I love what
- 42:51Speaker 3: I do, to be honest. I love competing. I love
- 42:54Speaker 3: pushing myself to the absolute limit physically and mentally. I
- 42:59Speaker 3: love doing the per simal training thing where I'm helping people.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I love doing my security jobs because I like to
- 43:03Speaker 3: keep people safe.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Like I love you security I do.
- 43:09Speaker 3: I'm an armed security guarden, an exact executive protection. You
- 43:14Speaker 3: don't need arm you don't need.
- 43:15Speaker 4: No, you don't need. You don't.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Off well. I like to well, I'm I'm okay with
- 43:22Speaker 3: using guns because if somebody's gonna run away, I'll chase
- 43:24Speaker 3: you for ten seconds and be like, all right, Na,
- 43:26Speaker 3: you're tired. Oh I'm joking. I'm joking. I am joking.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I am joking. That was a job.
- 43:35Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Imagine him bodyguarding.
- 43:38Speaker 4: I would feel so good, I feel so safe, like
- 43:40Speaker 4: i'd probably cause trouble yeah, just.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Because I would.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I wouldn't go and do bad stuff just because I
- 43:47Speaker 1: have him, and I'm not somebody who wants to do
- 43:49Speaker 1: bad stuff.
- 43:50Speaker 3: You are not the first person to tell me that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't say who else told you that? Because thereby
- 43:54Speaker 1: telling the truth. Yeah, so if do you do you
- 43:58Speaker 1: do virtual training at all?
- 44:00Speaker 3: Yeah? I do online stuff.
- 44:01Speaker 1: So if people because this is a big podcast, but
- 44:04Speaker 1: if people somewhere were listening and they were like, man,
- 44:06Speaker 1: I'd love to like virtually hit up evenue like train
- 44:09Speaker 1: and like, how do they get a hold of you?
- 44:10Speaker 3: Instagram? Actually it's most most popular and.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Easy way to get a hold of me is that
- 44:15Speaker 1: like Evan Strongman. What is it?
- 44:17Speaker 3: It's Evan Underscore t Rex Underscore strong Man.
- 44:20Speaker 4: It's a long one.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Well, okay, why t Rex because that's actually I got
- 44:25Speaker 3: the nickname from my tattoos. Good are those t rex?
- 44:29Speaker 4: Oh?
- 44:29Speaker 3: Yeah, look at that. I have t Rex call in
- 44:31Speaker 3: my hands.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I uh, why did you do that?
- 44:33Speaker 3: I'm a big fan of dinosaurs and Jurassic Park is
- 44:36Speaker 3: my favorite movie. T Rex has always been my favorite
- 44:39Speaker 3: dinosaur and still I keep up with paleontological discoveries and
- 44:43Speaker 3: updates and all of that in the scientific community. It's
- 44:46Speaker 3: just a hobby of mine. And t Rex was always
- 44:49Speaker 3: my favorite dinosaur and I always wanted to start getting tattoos,
- 44:52Speaker 3: but I didn't know what to get. I came up
- 44:54Speaker 3: with this idea when I was like fifteen sixteen, And
- 44:56Speaker 3: you know how when you come up with an idea
- 44:58Speaker 3: for a tattoo, be like, Oh, this looks cool, and
- 45:00Speaker 3: then like a month later, you're like, Ah, that's stupid.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I'll think of something else. This stayed consistent like up
- 45:06Speaker 3: until I was like twenty four to twenty five, and
- 45:08Speaker 3: I ended up getting this two months before my first
- 45:10Speaker 3: draw Man competition. I just pulled the trigger. I said,
- 45:13Speaker 3: screw it, why not? So I went out and got it.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Two months later, I competed in my first competition, and
- 45:18Speaker 3: halfway through, when I started dominating everybody, people started calling
- 45:21Speaker 3: me t Rex, and then I just kind of ran
- 45:22Speaker 3: with it.
- 45:23Speaker 1: You got a good nickname, that's cool. My name was
- 45:25Speaker 1: t Bone because they said ID a boner in seventh grade.
- 45:28Speaker 1: T Rex is true. No, it's a true story story.
- 45:30Speaker 1: T Rex is so much better off a nickname? Did
- 45:32Speaker 1: you given to you? T Bone?
- 45:34Speaker 3: That one sucks. That's a good porn star name I was.
- 45:37Speaker 3: I was in I was twelve, and there was nothing
- 45:38Speaker 3: porn star about it.
- 45:39Speaker 4: It was like something I wanted to highlight.
- 45:42Speaker 1: It was not highlight.
- 45:43Speaker 4: It was in the gym right well, I was wrestling.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Gets some worse.
- 45:49Speaker 1: No, no, yeah, no, it's all.
- 45:51Speaker 3: It's like peak as bad as it could get t bone.
- 45:55Speaker 3: It came out.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I still say it was not a boner, but it
- 45:59Speaker 1: did come out of my short. My shorts ripped, it
- 46:01Speaker 1: came out. The legend is what it is. They wanted
- 46:04Speaker 1: to call me t Rex, but and I was like,
- 46:06Speaker 1: soon there'll be a real t Rex and his name
- 46:09Speaker 1: is Evan Singleton.
- 46:11Speaker 3: I'm rooting for you, man, it's awesome.
- 46:13Speaker 1: That's super cool. When you speak, I'm assuming you speak.
- 46:17Speaker 1: I'm just assuming, PIZZI, I have you speaking stuff?
- 46:19Speaker 3: Do they whenever the opportunity comes up, Well they should
- 46:22Speaker 3: because you have a great story.
- 46:23Speaker 1: They should.
- 46:24Speaker 3: I like to share my story if my short. I
- 46:26Speaker 3: like to think that all of the hell that I've
- 46:28Speaker 3: been through in my life is worth it if I
- 46:29Speaker 3: can help one person. Oh yeah, you got to get it.
- 46:31Speaker 1: You got to speak to some folks like do speaking
- 46:33Speaker 1: towards and stuff you have a really great story. I
- 46:36Speaker 1: got nothing else because that's all. That's what I wanted
- 46:38Speaker 1: to talk about, was all that you just said. I'm
- 46:39Speaker 1: rooting for you. Edie got one, I.
- 46:40Speaker 4: Got one more questions. So I would think that being
- 46:43Speaker 4: strong and being able to lift whatever you want, you
- 46:48Speaker 4: probably feel like you can do anything. What's one thing
- 46:50Speaker 4: that you're just like, Man, I just can't do it?
- 46:52Speaker 4: Like I'm so bad at it.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Baking. I am terrible at baking. I've tried numerous times.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Are you good at cooking?
- 46:58Speaker 3: Though? I am good at cooking. I used to work
- 47:00Speaker 3: in an Italian steak restaurant and I was the head.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I wasn't the head chef, but I was the head
- 47:06Speaker 4: steak chef. So what's so tricky about bacon for you?
- 47:09Speaker 3: I don't know. I can't figure it out.
- 47:11Speaker 4: You burn everything.
- 47:11Speaker 3: I burn everything, all of my fucking shit falls. I'm
- 47:14Speaker 3: not using a beast or I use too much. I
- 47:16Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know. I just can't figure it out.
- 47:19Speaker 3: I can cook a five out of five steak like
- 47:22Speaker 3: I'll make up I'll make a steak dinner that will
- 47:24Speaker 3: knock you off your ass. But I can't figure out
- 47:27Speaker 3: if you want me to make cupcakes. You got to
- 47:29Speaker 3: you gotta recruit somebody else we'll do.
