- 0:03Speaker 1: Right opposite us, we've got a very familiar face, accompanied
- 0:06Speaker 1: by someone else that we want to know more about.
- 0:08Speaker 1: But first, I think we need to give her the
- 0:10Speaker 1: welcome that she deserves. We're gonna start with the uh
- 0:12Speaker 1: lady on the extreme right. If you're watching us on
- 0:15Speaker 1: TikTok live right now. Only our ex-producer, when she left,
- 0:20Speaker 1: she gone on to do university studies. She has graduated.
- 0:23Speaker 1: They grow up so fast. Please welcome back producer.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you for the flowers, everybody.
- 0:33Speaker 1: The virtual virtual flowers. It's flowers. No, I mean if
- 0:39Speaker 1: you followed like all of 987's videos back then when
- 0:42Speaker 1: you were producing for us, like she made some appearances
- 0:45Speaker 1: in our videos too, like, and I think most notably
- 0:47Speaker 1: it was the one where we did the bungee, but yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the reverse bungee together and the swing, the giant swing.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Basically my entire job is to just make your lives
- 0:57Speaker 1: as crazy as possible.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And I won't forget where you dressed up in a
- 1:01Speaker 1: pigeon outfit trying to scare me. That was another story.
- 1:06Speaker 1: She hit me in a box. OK, I let the
- 1:08Speaker 1: intern do that to me. OK, so, only because you
- 1:11Speaker 1: have the experience and you are media savvy. Who is
- 1:14Speaker 1: this very nice handsome young man next to you? What
- 1:16Speaker 1: is your purpose being here today? Yes, so today we're
- 1:19Speaker 1: actually here because we actually built a social platform on
- 1:23Speaker 1: an app. So basically,
- 1:24Speaker 1: An app to kind of connect communities together. So we
- 1:28Speaker 1: made that together. This is Shi Jin and he is
- 1:30Speaker 1: the developer and I'm basically the other side of it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I call a marketing person as the face of the
- 1:35Speaker 1: app's be honest. I think that's a that's a stretch. Wait,
- 1:39Speaker 1: so she does more of the talking, is it? Usually
- 1:45Speaker 1: all the videos. Well,
- 1:45Speaker 2: exactly. I'm never in the videos. I'm never in the
- 1:48Speaker 2: videos because
- 1:48Speaker 1: you're, you're.
- 1:50Speaker 1: The brains behind it in some way, like as in
- 1:52Speaker 1: developing wise, right? OK. So, so tell us how you
- 1:55Speaker 1: both came together to do this and why choose to
- 1:58Speaker 1: do something like Tangled, which is to connect people together. Yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 2: so, um, essentially my inspiration came from when I was
- 2:07Speaker 2: in Finland. So over there, the badminton culture is very
- 2:10Speaker 2: active and then from there I got super interested. I
- 2:13Speaker 2: did a recreational competition.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And then afterwards when I came to Singapore, I was like, oh,
- 2:17Speaker 2: I want to find some people to play badminton with,
- 2:20Speaker 2: but all my friends either played like super competitive or
- 2:23Speaker 2: they just played like they didn't just play for fun,
- 2:25Speaker 2: and it was so difficult to actually find people. Yes, yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and then later on I went to Taiwan for internship
- 2:32Speaker 2: and that's where I found people.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Uh, to play badminton with, and it's like just like
- 2:36Speaker 2: pure luck, just like colleagues like spreading the word. So
- 2:39Speaker 2: I was like wow, actually like it would be so
- 2:41Speaker 2: great if like you're able to kind of find people
- 2:43Speaker 2: to do the same interests and that led to Tango
- 2:46Speaker 2: because I think after everyone goes to work, it's so
- 2:48Speaker 2: difficult to find people of the same interests and same
- 2:50Speaker 2: vibes
- 2:51Speaker 1: just to be clear, it's not just min
- 2:57Speaker 1: Across it's anything,
- 3:01Speaker 2: anything. Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So basically I go on one of the things I
- 3:04Speaker 1: do for marketing is that I actually like test and
- 3:07Speaker 1: see what kind of things really appear on the app
- 3:09Speaker 1: and see who are the people floating ideas on what
- 3:11Speaker 1: they want to do. So like one of the most
- 3:13Speaker 1: like viral videos I did was that somebody literally was like, hey,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I wanna invite strangers to my wedding.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Literally like somebody was like, I want to invite just
- 3:23Speaker 1: like people to come to my wedding. I just want
- 3:25Speaker 1: to spread the love. If anyone wants to come, just
- 3:28Speaker 1: like join the group. And I was like, why not, right?
- 3:32Speaker 1: She went, she went and
- 3:34Speaker 1: it was so nice. Like, I took pictures with her in-laws.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Like I really did a whole shebang. It was so
- 3:41Speaker 1: fun and yeah, I think it was a really good
- 3:44Speaker 1: way to kind of find people like and you realize
- 3:47Speaker 1: that Singaporeans are really not that introverted or unfriendly as
- 3:51Speaker 1: you would perceive us to be. Yeah, no, I completely agree.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I agree. I think that people just form that opinion
- 3:59Speaker 1: because for Asians, who are generally more reserved than like
- 4:02Speaker 1: overseas and both of you have experienced like your internship
- 4:05Speaker 1: and like your school life.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Outside of Singapore as well, so you know that, yeah. So, OK,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask a like very curious question. So given
- 4:13Speaker 1: the plethora of dating apps available and now some of
- 4:17Speaker 1: these dating apps even have like your Bumble besties or something, right,
- 4:23Speaker 1: like your interest or whatsoever, even clubs as well. So
- 4:26Speaker 1: how would Tangle differentiate from all these things that we
- 4:28Speaker 1: have already and what's like the key point for people
- 4:31Speaker 1: who want to use your app to make friends?
- 4:33Speaker 1: What's the key selling point? Yes, Chloe, Chloe, I see
- 4:37Speaker 1: Chloe's eyes like, OK, you can basically, I think the
- 4:45Speaker 1: key differentiator is the fact that we like advocate for
- 4:48Speaker 1: smaller groups. So most of these group sizes are only
- 4:50Speaker 1: 5 and below. So the idea is to really like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I know that people sometimes get really scared, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 1: like run clubs can be really big sometimes. They feel
- 4:58Speaker 1: scared to even scared. Yeah, me too.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I didn't and I went on a run, a run
- 5:04Speaker 1: thing on this app before, right? And I was so stressed,
- 5:06Speaker 1: so I really like put it out there when I
- 5:08Speaker 1: was floating my idea. I said, hey, I'm really bad
- 5:10Speaker 1: at running. Then somebody replied to me saying, I'm bad
- 5:13Speaker 1: at running too, let's go together. You know, so it's
- 5:16Speaker 1: like there's that kind of like, OK, there's this like
- 5:18Speaker 1: little bit more intimate conversations that you can have. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and you don't feel as scared because you know that
- 5:24Speaker 1: somebody is gonna accompany you for real, and you're not
- 5:26Speaker 1: just going into the unknown and like hoping that you'll
- 5:29Speaker 1: find somebody. I think that's really the key.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Differentiator here. And it's not, I, I get the sense
- 5:34Speaker 1: that it's not like, oh, I'm looking to join this
- 5:37Speaker 1: so that I can date someone. It's really like to
- 5:39Speaker 1: get to know people and to connect and to get
- 5:41Speaker 1: friends because I think now it's even harder than ever
- 5:44Speaker 1: to make friends. It is, right? Would you say like
- 5:48Speaker 1: back then because I think for us when we were
- 5:50Speaker 1: in school and for you when you were in school,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you also went through like the whole COVID times at
- 5:54Speaker 1: some point. Like was that one of the reasons or
- 5:57Speaker 1: key differentiators.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That we realized that I mean we were all we
- 6:02Speaker 2: were both doing like part-time internships throughout our school time
- 6:05Speaker 2: and then when you do the part-time internships, it's like
- 6:07Speaker 2: you only go back to school for like 2 days
- 6:09Speaker 2: out of 5 the week and then honestly I look
- 6:12Speaker 2: forward to those like 2 days because it's a time
- 6:14Speaker 2: where I get to socialize yeah so like the cost
- 6:17Speaker 2: of it is like once you leave school, it's so
- 6:19Speaker 2: difficult to actually find the people and like it's everyone's
- 6:23Speaker 2: schedule or clash and everything is so difficult to actually
- 6:24Speaker 2: organize these meetups, especially in your club society and like
- 6:28Speaker 2: all your.
- 6:28Speaker 2: School.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Like everyone has, you know, everyone's adulting and you have
- 6:32Speaker 1: your own things to do. OK, we're gonna take a
- 6:33Speaker 1: short break. When we come back, we're gonna talk about
- 6:35Speaker 1: what your plans are for the future of Tangled, and
- 6:38Speaker 1: we're going to get more into it. Still joined here
- 6:40Speaker 1: in the studio by Chloe and Jun, who have come
- 6:42Speaker 1: on air to talk about an app to make new
- 6:45Speaker 1: friends and build communities. So if you're going for BTS alone,
- 6:48Speaker 1: maybe use the Tangled app, form a group and go together,
- 6:51Speaker 1: make friends. Actually, I think the BTS army very united.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They're quite united. They might have their own app.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And we got Chloe and Su Chin here. So we're
- 7:00Speaker 1: gonna carry on the convo about Tangled. Basically, TLDR is
- 7:04Speaker 1: an app to make friends or similar interests, and all
- 7:07Speaker 1: do it together. It's not like a dating app or whatsoever,
- 7:10Speaker 1: so don't, don't get it wrong. It's quite different. It's
- 7:13Speaker 1: more for communities, there is a question coming in on
- 7:16Speaker 1: TikTok Live that I thought, hey, we could take it
- 7:18Speaker 1: live on air as well from Anonymous. Do you all
- 7:20Speaker 1: come across any weird activities on there? Are there any restrictions? Basically,
- 7:24Speaker 1: how do you keep the app safe?
- 7:26Speaker 1: I think this is a great question because it's something
- 7:28Speaker 1: that I'm very concerned with, you know, especially as a girl.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I think that's something we keep at the top of
- 7:32Speaker 1: our minds, especially when we're making this. So I think
- 7:35Speaker 1: the reason why this app even spot in the first
- 7:37Speaker 1: place is because we saw a lot on Reddit, that
- 7:40Speaker 1: there were actually a lot of people asking to, hey,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I want to like do this together, anyone to do
- 7:44Speaker 1: this together. We realized that there really was a need
- 7:46Speaker 1: in that sense that people wanted to do it, but
- 7:48Speaker 1: then I looked at it and I was like, there's
- 7:50Speaker 1: no way Reddit is a safe place to do this, right? Right?
- 7:53Speaker 1: There's no way.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Exactly, I mean, like, in that sense, I think that's
- 7:59Speaker 1: why that spurred us to create the platform where there
- 8:01Speaker 1: is a moderation on how you can, #1, you have
- 8:04Speaker 1: to make a profile, 2, before you do anything, you
- 8:07Speaker 1: can always, you must knock to join a group. Then
- 8:10Speaker 1: the host will access whether you are suitable to join,
- 8:13Speaker 1: for example, so you can check profiles, all of that.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So I think that gives you a layer of security
- 8:18Speaker 1: because there is autonomy in that sense.
- 8:21Speaker 1: But you haven't come across a situation where someone put
- 8:23Speaker 1: like a fake name or fake profile picture or how
- 8:27Speaker 1: does that work? Like you have to connect with the
- 8:29Speaker 1: SingPass or something in the future. I don't
- 8:31Speaker 1: know.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I, as the tech person, so I, I like this report,
- 8:38Speaker 2: the reports being made on the app, so we have
- 8:40Speaker 2: a reporting system and then essentially we found out.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Someone with like two accounts by the same like IP
- 8:47Speaker 2: address and then essentially she was apparently trying to get
- 8:52Speaker 2: men to pay for her outings out she's actually like
- 8:57Speaker 2: banned from other like apps I think if you guys
- 8:58Speaker 2: are familiar with Reddit as well like she's banned from
- 9:03Speaker 2: the other groups. So when I heard it I was
- 9:05Speaker 2: like
- 9:05Speaker 1: oh
- 9:05Speaker 1: wow so what he did was he banned.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Immediately. So the thing is that it's a very close
- 9:10Speaker 1: reporting system, right? We're not like somewhere else, we're here.
- 9:13Speaker 1: So if we see a report, we're going to be like, yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 1: we're gonna be banned. Yeah. Yeah. So one more question
- 9:19Speaker 1: coming through here is that, is it only available on
- 9:22Speaker 1: Apple now that since we're on the tech side of things, OK,
- 9:25Speaker 1: on the tech side of things we got to ask
- 9:27Speaker 1: this because I think people are interested. Yeah. Perfect segue
- 9:30Speaker 1: because we're finally on Android.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Relief announcement.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Android. We are now finally both on Apple and Android.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I have so many questions on this every single day.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So yes, we are now on Android. Please go and
- 9:44Speaker 1: find it. It's on our website. Nice. Uh, can I ask,
- 9:47Speaker 1: where do you find the time to balance an app
- 9:50Speaker 1: and university studies at the same time graduated. I mean
- 9:53Speaker 1: they did they founded this like during year 2, year
- 9:55Speaker 1: 3 of uni. No, like last year,
- 9:57Speaker 2: September, I think mainly just very little.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It's
- 10:01Speaker 1: OK. You're fine. You can do this right now.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But, uh, other than that, I mean, it's really just
- 10:07Speaker 2: optimizing like workflow. So I mean for me like I
- 10:11Speaker 2: made it such that I can code on my phone.
- 10:13Speaker 2: So while traveling to work and then coming back, I will,
- 10:16Speaker 2: I will work on
- 10:16Speaker 1: its max man honestly all I can say is a
- 10:21Speaker 1: lot of effort into this and also like on my
- 10:24Speaker 1: side like for me it's a bit more spontaneous, right,
- 10:28Speaker 1: because I have to keep filming. So that's like social
- 10:31Speaker 1: energy that's different and I have high social.
- 10:38Speaker 1: When you extrovert in a Singaporean dictionary, you get Chloe.
- 10:40Speaker 1: There you go. I'm gonna slip one more in here.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Someone says, I need rave buddies for EDC. Can I
- 10:46Speaker 1: use this app? Yes, use it for that. I've seen that.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That's the thing, because when I went for Tomorrowland recently,
- 10:52Speaker 1: some Singaporeans actually hit me up on like IGDM or
- 10:55Speaker 1: something to say.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Hey, do you want to like gather at this place
- 10:57Speaker 1: to take a Singapore photo, blah blah blah. So that
- 11:00Speaker 1: could be another, you know, angle for you, festivals, music festivals.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I saw somebody ask for Summer Sonic on the app. Yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 1: that's so cool. Oh my gosh. OK, before we let
- 11:10Speaker 1: you guys go, what is your vision, vision
- 11:16Speaker 2: for the future of Tangled?
- 11:17Speaker 2: I think we have kind of grew like many more
- 11:19Speaker 2: features eventually. At first it was just small groups and gatherings, right,
- 11:22Speaker 2: to make sure that the kind of large group size
- 11:24Speaker 2: doesn't intimidate people, but I think now it's becoming a
- 11:27Speaker 2: thing where we want to focus on just making it
- 11:29Speaker 2: A really nice social hub for the first professionals and
- 11:32Speaker 2: maybe eventually like even the people who are more seasoned professionals. Yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 2: so that's the main, main kind of goal.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I think in the sense it's like trying to have
- 11:41Speaker 1: that way to facilitate um in an organic way where
- 11:46Speaker 1: it's like it's not, it doesn't take too much time,
- 11:47Speaker 1: it doesn't take too much effort, it doesn't take like,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, having to rent out spaces all the time because,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know,
- 11:52Speaker 1: Space is always a concern in Singapore. I think just
- 11:55Speaker 1: having that avenue to connect and really like interactions
- 11:58Speaker 1: fly.
- 12:04Speaker 1: While you do that, while you do that, how do
- 12:06Speaker 1: you earn money in the future? Like, do you, are
- 12:10Speaker 1: you planning to grow that finance side of things? Right
- 12:12Speaker 1: now it's a dream, but please hit us up.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, OK. Hit us up, we are figuring that out, yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: investors call us, but right now we are really like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's just us in a dream. We're just like putting
- 12:26Speaker 1: our effort into it because we see the importance for
- 12:29Speaker 1: people and how they've benefited so much.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And when people tell us that, hey, this app has
- 12:33Speaker 1: really like helped me out, like I really found somebody that,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you know, I went to a concert with because of
- 12:38Speaker 1: this app, it makes me feel really
- 12:40Speaker 1: good.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I select curds, we know they've made it.
- 12:48Speaker 1: They got, they got some of that dollar.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So excited to see how this app grows along with
- 12:52Speaker 1: you in different phases of life as well. So all
- 12:54Speaker 1: the best to Tango and get it. It's available on
- 12:57Speaker 1: Android now and it's always been available on Apple. Hey,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you can download. We're so excited for you. Thanks for
- 13:03Speaker 1: coming by to chat with us and thank you for
- 13:05Speaker 1: coming back, Chloe. I'm back.
