- 1:23Speaker 2: you took a thirty minute walk?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Thirty minute walking? Anything okay.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Would have been on would have been a highly There's
- 1:35Speaker 2: no way it would happen. No, No, I'm not walking
- 1:37Speaker 2: thirty minutes.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Well, well, you.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Have dogs, so you should be and you've got great
- 1:46Speaker 2: places around you to walk. I'm not walk to where
- 1:50Speaker 2: Where am I? Where am I gonna walk? You got
- 1:52Speaker 2: all kinds of different spots. You can walk the district
- 1:55Speaker 2: and I'm not walking to Hoghland Village. Wow, I have
- 1:57Speaker 2: a walk that's a none of the track, that's not
- 2:00Speaker 2: that far. You're busting even busting a sweat immediately. That's
- 2:05Speaker 2: good for you. Well, I mean yeah, but not from
- 2:07Speaker 2: We'll go eat?
- 2:07Speaker 3: What else am I going on?
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean your buddy textas yesterday on the Dancing Rabbit
- 2:11Speaker 2: golf text line, and he said, I'm going to I'm
- 2:14Speaker 2: going to mow twenty seven yards today. And you can't
- 2:19Speaker 2: walk to Holland Village to get a gelato. How soft
- 2:23Speaker 2: you're It's like you go to uh the school at Seaside.
- 2:30Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:30Speaker 2: My friends and I for years would laugh about you know,
- 2:35Speaker 2: obviously you would want to, I mean I think you
- 2:37Speaker 2: would want to go, but we also laughed about how
- 2:41Speaker 2: soft some of the kids probably are kidding me. You
- 2:43Speaker 2: won't walk to You live right by the Rogueman's store
- 2:48Speaker 2: and Highland Village and all that, and you wouldn't walk there.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I mean no, First off, have you seen the people
- 2:54Speaker 2: drive on Ridgewood? Well that's a good so I wouldn't
- 2:57Speaker 2: take it there. Well, you're not on ridge. Would long
- 3:01Speaker 2: where you are? You don't need to be. They can
- 3:04Speaker 2: flying through their lock too. Plus you can cut through
- 3:07Speaker 2: the back and end up on the frontage road and
- 3:10Speaker 2: you're right by there. Yeah, I mean that's an easy
- 3:14Speaker 2: cut through. Talk about like two miles, I mean, well,
- 3:17Speaker 2: I know it's probably not even two. It's not two miles.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It can't be two miles now, Yeah, But why am
- 3:23Speaker 2: I gonna bust that sweat to go eat? Like I'm
- 3:26Speaker 2: trying to go eat and enjoy myself. I'm not trying
- 3:28Speaker 2: to get in there and recoop and then eat. I
- 3:31Speaker 2: need to get there, eat, recoop. Okay, nobody recoops like
- 3:36Speaker 2: you do. Maybe you're maybe you're the Guinness Book of
- 3:39Speaker 2: World Record of recooping recooper.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it. Okay, Yeah, you gotta recoop, Okay,
- 3:45Speaker 3: all right.
- 3:46Speaker 2: The Dancing Rabbit Golf text line is six oh one
- 3:49Speaker 2: eight eight five three seven seven six. Show is brought
- 3:52Speaker 2: to you by the Rabbis at Kessler Prime and the Renaissance.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Nick is on the Dancing Rabbit golf text line. He says,
- 3:59Speaker 2: my buddy wall from the dock to Highway fifty one
- 4:03Speaker 2: to avoid a roadblock.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Once.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's to me, that's smart. Yeah, that's yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 2: that's different.
- 4:09Speaker 3: That's that's smart.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I mean, Tony Romo has been put
- 4:14Speaker 2: on lead from CBS on you know, however, they're good.
- 4:20Speaker 3: This thing's going to go down.
- 4:23Speaker 2: On whether or not he did, on whether not this
- 4:25Speaker 2: DUI is going to go through or not going to
- 4:27Speaker 2: go through. So Nick your buddy, and he's got seventy
- 4:31Speaker 2: two million dollars left on his contract.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And it looks like they want.
- 4:34Speaker 2: To promote JJ Watt in with Jim Nance, which is
- 4:40Speaker 2: interesting because Nance and Romo are tied and have done
- 4:44Speaker 2: a great job about the last eight seasons on the air.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But also I was listening to a podcast and this
- 4:54Speaker 2: is weird, and I was listening to an attorney say, yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to be able to get
- 4:59Speaker 2: out of all of it. That maybe there's a negotiated
- 5:02Speaker 2: down maybe half of it, thirty six million type deal
- 5:07Speaker 2: something like that, but we'll we'll kind of see what
- 5:11Speaker 2: what that?
- 5:12Speaker 3: What?
- 5:12Speaker 2: That looks like CBS has been bought. So it's a
- 5:14Speaker 2: different group that signed Romo to that huge eighteen million
- 5:19Speaker 2: dollars a year contract compared to today. Anyway, the point is,
- 5:23Speaker 2: we need you to walk, Toland. I mean I want
- 5:25Speaker 2: you to be careful, yeah, but you need to start walking.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I mean I want plenty Oh yeah, I got a
- 5:31Speaker 2: lot going on.
- 5:32Speaker 3: You feel like you do get in your steps.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I mean I get my steps in, but it's not
- 5:35Speaker 2: you know, by walking like with intention to walk walk.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, my steps are there. I'm just not
- 5:43Speaker 3: like going on it.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I bet you averaged three thousand steps a day I wish, okay.
- 5:48Speaker 3: At one point, at one point it was probably like
- 5:51Speaker 3: fifteen hundred.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Jimmy Lee just Texas and said I walked two hundred
- 5:54Speaker 2: and seven two hundred and ninety seven miles in the
- 5:57Speaker 2: month of May to win a bet in a steak dinner.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Oh okay, I beat the other guy about thirty three miles.
- 6:03Speaker 3: That damnailible. First off, I got to know more about this. Yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 3: how did this bet?
- 6:09Speaker 4: All right?
- 6:09Speaker 2: So, speaking of the straight funk teas of the week,
- 6:14Speaker 2: All right, and we want you all to celebrate college
- 6:17Speaker 2: football or the NFL at some point at the Goldenman Casino,
- 6:20Speaker 2: Vegas style sportsbook because it is fun full bar and
- 6:25Speaker 2: they've got a grill restaurant in there where you get wings.
- 6:28Speaker 2: In case he is and sold, all right, Jimmy Lee,
- 6:30Speaker 2: tell me more. I have to know more on this bet. So,
- 6:36Speaker 2: I mean, if he's at two ninety seven and ninety
- 6:39Speaker 2: seven over thirty days, God, it's almost ten miles a day. Okay,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I think there's thirty one days in May, but still
- 6:47Speaker 2: we're we're right at ten miles. That's that is, that's hoping. No,
- 6:51Speaker 2: that's that's doing an unbelievable job. You're you're that's with intention.
- 6:57Speaker 2: That's first of all, wanting to win like Drew Brees, right,
- 7:00Speaker 2: I mean there was a bet he wanted to win it?
- 7:04Speaker 3: And was there any money? How did this transpire?
- 7:07Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 7:08Speaker 3: I mean how does this go? Was this over beverages?
- 7:11Speaker 2: Was this back patio Thursday Friday night? Barking between two guys?
- 7:16Speaker 5: Right?
- 7:17Speaker 3: You know, did y'all bet on a game? What?
- 7:19Speaker 2: What's I mean? Are y'all out of shape and y'all
- 7:22Speaker 2: wanted to get in shape? Which I think is great?
- 7:25Speaker 2: Or maybe you're both that wasn't the case. What's going on?
- 7:28Speaker 2: And what do you do for a living?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Jimmy Lee.
- 7:32Speaker 2: We need all these answers on the text line, baby,
- 7:34Speaker 2: because ten miles a day for thirty almost you got
- 7:37Speaker 2: to dedicate time to that, no question. I mean that's
- 7:40Speaker 2: that's three. I mean you're gonna be tied up three
- 7:42Speaker 2: four hours a day doing that. Well, I don't know.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'd have to run the numbers. I walk a lot too,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I actually walk a lot, not like you, right, but
- 7:49Speaker 2: I need to walk more. Now we did walk, we walked,
- 7:54Speaker 2: we had we had a couple of nice walks in Louisville.
- 7:57Speaker 3: How fast you walking a mile? I don't know. I
- 8:00Speaker 3: mean I can, I can bug you if I need to.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Right, but like a good brisk wall, because its probably
- 8:06Speaker 2: like thirteen to fifteen, I.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Don't I don't know what what what is a a
- 8:11Speaker 3: A good running miles? Eight? Seven? Okay? Are really going six?
- 8:19Speaker 3: You can keeping me? I can do it, surely, I
- 8:21Speaker 3: can do it easily in twelve minutes? Right? Oh? Walking one? Yeah?
- 8:24Speaker 3: I mean my sleep yeah?
- 8:25Speaker 2: But yeah, but you I mean you probably do that
- 8:26Speaker 2: after the show true going down that little loo. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 2: I mean they're Yeah, I think you burn a mile
- 8:32Speaker 2: doing that. Okay, because if you do it that three
- 8:34Speaker 2: four times, you're done. Okay, yeah, twelve minutes. Probably you
- 8:37Speaker 2: can get my steps in the day. You can go
- 8:39Speaker 2: you can go sub ten. If you wanted it, you
- 8:42Speaker 2: go under tend omle.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I feel good about it.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I got I also feel good about this Peter Malar
- 8:48Speaker 2: pullover that I'm wearing doing like that with the uh
- 8:52Speaker 2: out of bounds mic logo and the whiskey sixty one
- 8:55Speaker 2: on the sleeve. That's brought to you by the Rogue
- 8:58Speaker 2: Men's Store. They have all the old miss and Mississippi
- 9:03Speaker 2: State gear Peter Millar gear per game day at the
- 9:08Speaker 2: Rogue Men's Store. And they've got all the different logos,
- 9:12Speaker 2: you know, the old miss the sip, the powder blue,
- 9:14Speaker 2: the red, the Mississippi State. They got the Walking Bully,
- 9:16Speaker 2: they got the state script, they got the interlocking MSU,
- 9:21Speaker 2: they've got Old Miss written now, they've got I mean
- 9:23Speaker 2: it's they've got everything, blue, red, maroon, white, gray, all
- 9:28Speaker 2: of it. The Rogue Men's Store has the old miss
- 9:31Speaker 2: and Mississippi State gear that you're looking for that you
- 9:34Speaker 2: would actually wear outside of game day. Oh, man, we
- 10:33Speaker 2: are the out of bounds show ESPN one oh five nine.
- 10:37Speaker 3: The Zone.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It's brought to you by Ford Plumbing and Air. All right,
- 10:43Speaker 2: so if you need a plumber or hvac, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 2: air conditioning's pretty awesome.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I don't know about y'all, but AC rocks.
- 10:51Speaker 2: For example, when I was standing in the OMNI last
- 10:53Speaker 2: weekend at Louisville, I had that thing on.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Sixty four degrees.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I mean, Ford Plumbing and Air. They're the go to
- 11:02Speaker 2: for anything that you need plumbing because I really appreciate
- 11:06Speaker 2: indoor plumbing and I really like air conditioning. And that
- 11:10Speaker 2: is brought to you by Ford Plumbing and Air right
- 11:12Speaker 2: here in Ridgeland, and they service the whole metro area.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Ford Plumbing and Air locally owned in Ridgeland, Ford Ford
- 11:21Speaker 2: Ford Plumbing and Air one O five to nine The
- 11:24Speaker 2: Zone EESPN one O five nine The Zone.
- 11:28Speaker 3: ESPN. Let's go with Lane, Let's switch gears. Lane Kiffen.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Was very talky talkie as he got to meet with
- 11:37Speaker 2: the media as they start camp down in LSU. I
- 11:40Speaker 2: don't know if you know this, but LSU will play
- 11:42Speaker 2: at Old Miss September nineteenth and then Mississippi State will
- 11:46Speaker 2: play down in Baton Rouge a few weeks later. So
- 11:51Speaker 2: both Old Miss and Mississippi State get Lane.
- 11:55Speaker 3: In his first year at LSU.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Ole Miss gets him at home, Mississippi State draws a
- 12:01Speaker 2: I'm well, I'm sure be a fun road game. This
- 12:05Speaker 2: is Lane Kiffen talking about winning.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Guys were out there, really good spirits, really good energy.
- 12:12Speaker 6: We have long ways to go of understand how to
- 12:15Speaker 6: push through really intense periods and situations, which I'm sure
- 12:20Speaker 6: we probably say the first day. They feel that way
- 12:23Speaker 6: in different programs. So we have a lot of really
- 12:26Speaker 6: good pieces. We got a chance to be really good.
- 12:30Speaker 6: But everybody wants to know how many wins is that?
- 12:32Speaker 6: How are those things? That's that's all outcome, and there's
- 12:35Speaker 6: so many variables in that. We've got a lot of
- 12:37Speaker 6: work to do with these pieces. Get them to play
- 12:39Speaker 6: together well, get them to play as a team together.
- 12:42Speaker 6: And then you've heard me talk before it there's always
- 12:44Speaker 6: outside circumstances and things that happen in games and injuries
- 12:48Speaker 6: that have a lot to do with you know, your
- 12:50Speaker 6: season's win win lost total. So we've got to control
- 12:54Speaker 6: what we can control, which is working really hard and
- 12:56Speaker 6: getting the players used to to playing together. Guys were
- 13:01Speaker 6: out there.
- 13:02Speaker 2: That was Lane Kiffin And here's what jumped out at
- 13:04Speaker 2: me there when when he said, we have a chance
- 13:08Speaker 2: to be really good.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Okay, he's right. They do have talent, no doubt about that.
- 13:12Speaker 2: They had it walking in and then Lane and then
- 13:14Speaker 2: did an incredible job in three weeks on the ground
- 13:18Speaker 2: in Baton Rouge.
- 13:19Speaker 3: They were ready.
- 13:21Speaker 2: But the quote here is, you know, everybody wants to
- 13:24Speaker 2: know how many wins that is, and he goes, that's
- 13:27Speaker 2: all outcome and there's too many variables to know, and
- 13:31Speaker 2: he's right.
- 13:33Speaker 3: So do they have talent? Yes? Is Sam Levitt healthy? Yes?
- 13:39Speaker 2: And he talked about him. In fact, let's let's go
- 13:43Speaker 2: with Lane on building team chemistry. Give me one second though.
- 13:47Speaker 2: This is ESPN one oh five nine. The Zone brought
- 13:49Speaker 2: to you by Fleetway Market and the Market Cafe and Glugstat,
- 13:53Speaker 2: but also the new Fleetway Market in Clinton. They're all
- 13:57Speaker 2: over the state of Mississippi, well over twenty Fleetway markets.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Great place to fuel up, locally own, clean bathrooms, great
- 14:06Speaker 2: selection of cold beer. Also the Fleetway Market in the
- 14:09Speaker 2: Market Cafe in Gluckstat you can go by there and
- 14:14Speaker 2: grab breakfast sandwiches, breakfast biscuits, and they also have lunch
- 14:20Speaker 2: which you can grab and go or the cafe has
- 14:23Speaker 2: plenty of seating. Fleetway Market and the Market Cafe in
- 14:28Speaker 2: Gluckstat do we have Lane? This is Lane on building
- 14:30Speaker 2: team chemistry in this new nil era.
- 14:33Speaker 4: You guys seem to have some type of magic potion
- 14:36Speaker 4: when it comes to building the chemistry. Is that the
- 14:39Speaker 4: on the field stuff as well as the off the
- 14:41Speaker 4: field stuff that you think is how y'all are able
- 14:44Speaker 4: to get this team to buy in.
- 14:49Speaker 6: I think we've just done it for a long time now.
- 14:51Speaker 6: I think as a coach, when you've done it, happened
- 14:55Speaker 6: to be talking to Pete Carroll for a long time
- 14:56Speaker 6: last night about something and you're just going back over things.
- 15:00Speaker 6: How little you knew. I equate it to parenting the
- 15:04Speaker 6: first time you're a parent. You know, verse I've had
- 15:07Speaker 6: six kids. Now it's my six job. You probably do
- 15:09Speaker 6: a better job and made some mistakes. And so I
- 15:13Speaker 6: just think we have so much figured out now about
- 15:15Speaker 6: how we do things with that that it's easier for
- 15:17Speaker 6: us to bring people from all over and bring them
- 15:20Speaker 6: into the systems. But I also think you know our
- 15:24Speaker 6: strength coach last night and a meeting he said, man,
- 15:26Speaker 6: you know, coach, we have very very few problems on
- 15:28Speaker 6: our team, and very few attitude problems and guys not
- 15:33Speaker 6: buying in or being late or any of that stuff.
- 15:36Speaker 6: And I said, you know, you tell me that every
- 15:39Speaker 6: year for about three years now in a row. And
- 15:43Speaker 6: I believe that's because it's what starts to choose you.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I so again, he's very zen, philosophical West Coast. Okay,
- 15:54Speaker 2: he's been like that. You can say what you want
- 15:58Speaker 2: about his personal life. He's good like he's he's locked
- 16:02Speaker 2: in on all the stuff. I know he screwed up
- 16:04Speaker 2: earlier in his career. Well, it was a combination of
- 16:07Speaker 2: things at the Raiders, but Tennessee didn't look that good,
- 16:10Speaker 2: Southern cal didn't mess up fired him. But I'm sure
- 16:13Speaker 2: he wasn't as locked in. Oh yeah, I know he
- 16:15Speaker 2: wasn't as locked in as he is today and everything
- 16:18Speaker 2: he had to go through at Bama and in Florida, Atlantic.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And Ole Miss.
- 16:21Speaker 2: But his strength and conditioning coach is Nick Savage, who
- 16:25Speaker 2: guess what was.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Dan mullen strengthening.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I know you shouldn't be surprised that Dan was was
- 16:32Speaker 2: making big time hires, you didn't know what you had,
- 16:35Speaker 2: did you? In Starbull yet? Nick Savage was Dan Mullen's
- 16:40Speaker 2: strength and conditioning coach a long time ago. Do we
- 16:41Speaker 2: have summer all? This is summer all? Throws Billy Napier
- 16:45Speaker 2: right under the bus talking about their weight room.
- 16:50Speaker 7: The first time I walked in there, I was like, Okay,
- 16:52Speaker 7: I didn't love some of the layout. Maybe I'm not
- 16:56Speaker 7: trying to take shots, but I don't you know, there's
- 16:57Speaker 7: a big patch of turf in the way room. We
- 17:00Speaker 7: got one hundred and twenty yards of turf right outside.
- 17:02Speaker 7: I don't need turf in a weight room. We need
- 17:04Speaker 7: weights in a weight room. So like you know that?
- 17:06Speaker 7: That to me, I was already like, I don't need
- 17:09Speaker 7: a little patch of turf. It's like some some guys
- 17:12Speaker 7: are not gonna naming names, but you got like a
- 17:14Speaker 7: little patch of hair. What's that doing? Just cut it
- 17:17Speaker 7: and so just don't try to hang on to it.
- 17:20Speaker 7: And so the the the idea of turf and a
- 17:23Speaker 7: weight room made no sense. We have a full turf
- 17:25Speaker 7: practice filled outside or inside and the indoor and then
- 17:28Speaker 7: we got two grassmens right there. So I do think
- 17:31Speaker 7: the function out of the weight room created an environment
- 17:34Speaker 7: where our guys understand that's important. You know, how how
- 17:38Speaker 7: you invest your your time and your money, tell me
- 17:41Speaker 7: what's important to you. Well, we when our administration allowed
- 17:44Speaker 7: us to do that in the weight room, it's in
- 17:45Speaker 7: a real clear message everybody in the building like Hay
- 17:47Speaker 7: being really strong and tough and this weight room matters.
- 17:50Speaker 7: And so our players followed that lead, and the coaches
- 17:53Speaker 7: have done a good job and it's it's made a
- 17:57Speaker 7: huge change within our within our team.
- 17:59Speaker 3: All Right.
- 18:01Speaker 2: His quote, I don't need a patch of turf, No,
- 18:06Speaker 2: let me say it, I don't need a patch of turf.
- 18:08Speaker 2: That was very coach. I mean I love that. That
- 18:11Speaker 2: was very military general, which is where all of the
- 18:15Speaker 2: coaching came from. World War two, World War One, right, y'all.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I had to read about history in generals and so
- 18:21Speaker 2: on and.
- 18:24Speaker 3: A war.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Excuse me, military in generals, and uh, I love. I mean,
- 18:29Speaker 2: John Sumrall is going to be a good quote. He
- 18:33Speaker 2: may end up being the second best quote in the
- 18:35Speaker 2: league behind Lane. What oh, why you said that? I mean,
- 18:41Speaker 2: how many people are really quote? All right, so you
- 18:43Speaker 2: got you got Ken Kirby summer Ale and then Pete
- 18:49Speaker 2: Goldinge's wound up.
- 18:52Speaker 3: He's very talky talking.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Uh, took that shot at old miss about basket weaving
- 19:01Speaker 2: and then died down because I don't think that's really
- 19:03Speaker 2: his mo o.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I don't think he wants to do that.
- 19:07Speaker 2: But anyway, so I would go Kiffen Summer all Kirby
- 19:15Speaker 2: Golding as far as talkie talkie and and and really
- 19:20Speaker 2: really fun compelling audio that can go either way. Yes,
- 19:25Speaker 2: with maybe an astroisk beside Golding's name, because he could propel,
- 19:29Speaker 2: he could go up. Uh, possibly if he gets hot
- 19:33Speaker 2: and bothered. Yeah, they love his curse. Yeah, I mean,
- 19:41Speaker 2: Pete cuss is like a sailor. But then again, so
- 19:43Speaker 2: do I. We're Live in the Bank plus Studio SEC
- 19:46Speaker 2: Insider Hit Next He's will go into the Pro Football

- 20:43Speaker 2: We welcome in Mike Detilier WWL Radio TV New Orleans.
- 20:47Speaker 2: He covered Sean and Drew from the jump every single day,
- 20:51Speaker 2: every single week through the magical time that gave us
- 20:56Speaker 2: unbelievable right experiences that we're talking about. We've been playing
- 21:00Speaker 2: the audio from Drew Brees this morning talking about it
- 21:04Speaker 2: came down to Miami and New Orleans and if Miami
- 21:08Speaker 2: takes him and the doctors don't say no, then Saban
- 21:12Speaker 2: doesn't go to Alabama and then what does the college
- 21:14Speaker 2: football and the SEC look like? That we all love,
- 21:17Speaker 2: So we bring in Mike D on the Farm Bureau
- 21:19Speaker 2: Insurance guest line.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Mike D.
- 21:24Speaker 2: We've we've had many segments with you on Drew, but
- 21:27Speaker 2: we can't do enough. What was it like right when
- 21:31Speaker 2: Drew got to know this young, young, young Drew Brees
- 21:35Speaker 2: that's trying to rehab his shoulder and boyish good looks.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know if naive is the right word
- 21:43Speaker 2: because he's already been in the NFL and proven, But
- 21:45Speaker 2: what was it like to cover him that first year?
- 21:49Speaker 3: Mike D.
- 21:51Speaker 5: It was a lot of different features through it, you know,
- 21:57Speaker 5: having watched him, just how successful we worth it for
- 22:00Speaker 5: due and then he goes to San Diego and you
- 22:05Speaker 5: know he hit some high notes there, but you eventually
- 22:09Speaker 5: once they picked Philip Rivers in round one, that he
- 22:14Speaker 5: wasn't going to stay there, that something was going to happen.
- 22:18Speaker 5: And he came in here with a chip on his
- 22:21Speaker 5: shoulder again, he had been through surgery that had not
- 22:27Speaker 5: been done before at that time doctor James Andrews had
- 22:34Speaker 5: done surgery, but not on the quarterback position and coming
- 22:39Speaker 5: back from that. And so from a Demeter standpoint, he's
- 22:45Speaker 5: always been a super focused guy. He's always been the
- 22:49Speaker 5: type of individual that's going to give you everything. He's
- 22:52Speaker 5: got to get back to playing. But there was a
- 22:57Speaker 5: lot of uncertainty about Drew Brees because there was no
- 23:03Speaker 5: textbook about this is how so and sol came back
- 23:07Speaker 5: from that injury that had not happened before. And so
- 23:13Speaker 5: while there was excitement because the team that drafted Reggie
- 23:18Speaker 5: Bush Sean had a lot of excitement around him, Drew
- 23:24Speaker 5: had a lot of excitement around him, there was also uncertainty.
- 23:28Speaker 5: And I remember Zach Street telling me the story that
- 23:34Speaker 5: you know, listen, he said, I'm just trying to make
- 23:37Speaker 5: the team at this point, I'm a late round pick.
- 23:40Speaker 5: I'm trying to make the team. But in watching him
- 23:43Speaker 5: through the first few times he was like, man, you know,
- 23:47Speaker 5: he never threw football more than twenty yards in training camp.
- 23:53Speaker 5: You think about that, never threw a football more than
- 23:56Speaker 5: twenty yards. And Zach was like, okay, yes, maybe it'll
- 24:01Speaker 5: come around. And I think it was the third preseason game.
- 24:05Speaker 5: They called the play and you know, then you will
- 24:09Speaker 5: be a longer pass and Drew hid it and Zach was, Okay,
- 24:13Speaker 5: that's why we got him. That's that's why we got him.
- 24:17Speaker 5: So it was a process with it. But I'll be
- 24:20Speaker 5: honest with you. His demeanor on how he changed things
- 24:24Speaker 5: and how he reacted to everyone and everybody never really changed. Wow,
- 24:32Speaker 5: the Drew Brees that came in and O six to
- 24:35Speaker 5: the Drew Brees when he was tired, he was the
- 24:37Speaker 5: same guy. Okay, so a little bit Richard. He sort
- 24:51Speaker 5: of has a bit of a dry sense of humor
- 24:53Speaker 5: about it. And so you get accustomed to, you know,
- 24:57Speaker 5: his personality and just how he reacts to certain things,
- 25:02Speaker 5: and you know, he's the guys he's all business. Now,
- 25:07Speaker 5: I'm gonna be honest, he is all business. And he'll
- 25:12Speaker 5: you know, he'll have a little good time, you know,
- 25:15Speaker 5: and that sort of thing. But man, he's all about
- 25:19Speaker 5: doing what's best to get himself better as a player.
- 25:23Speaker 5: And I never thought he'd be a coach because I thought,
- 25:27Speaker 5: you know, those type individuals sometimes they don't understand what
- 25:32Speaker 5: other people go through to struggle, and and he did
- 25:37Speaker 5: have his struggles, but it's hard for a guy.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I'm jealous.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he's he's coming on it at five. Third's
- 26:23Speaker 5: glad to have him on, and he's, uh, he's been
- 26:26Speaker 5: working out, you know, in California with Saints quarterbacks and receivers.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Oh wow, all right, Mike Detillier will have Drew Brees
- 26:37Speaker 2: on w w L Radio, New Orleans, Mike d Afternoon Drive.
- 26:42Speaker 2: And that's cool. We've interviewed some cool people. But the
- 26:46Speaker 2: fact that Mike's interviewed Drew Brees one hundred times or whatever,
- 26:50Speaker 2: I'm jealous. Okay, So with Drew year one, they got
- 26:55Speaker 2: the NFC Championship game. When did you know, Mike d
- 26:59Speaker 2: that the theme was when were you sitting up there
- 27:02Speaker 2: in the press box or on WWL where you said,
- 27:06Speaker 2: holy smokes, this team could do something really special. In
- 27:09Speaker 2: year one of Drew and shown.
- 27:12Speaker 5: The first couple of games that was like, okay, there's
- 27:16Speaker 5: some momentum on this team really didn't know how good
- 27:20Speaker 5: they were. They had twenty nine new players on a
- 27:23Speaker 5: fifty three man roster. The thick of that, you know,
- 27:29Speaker 5: it was a new coaching staff. We didn't know a
- 27:33Speaker 5: lot about Sean Payton and his coaching staff. Good thoughts
- 27:53Speaker 5: early on that they could run the ball because you know,
- 27:57Speaker 5: with that combination in the backfield, as was Marcus Colston,
- 28:09Speaker 5: who was a seventh round pick and what he was
- 28:13Speaker 5: able to do in year one. Their offensive line played
- 28:17Speaker 5: really well. The defense it was kind of a thrown
- 28:23Speaker 5: together unit and Gary Gary Gibbs did a really good
- 28:28Speaker 5: job of coordinating, and they got a running game and
- 29:06Speaker 5: you saying, hey, you know they might be pretty dull
- 29:09Speaker 5: going good here, and sure enough to think that that
- 29:12Speaker 5: team that had won three games the year before, you know,
- 29:17Speaker 5: goes to the NFC championship game. I always told this
- 29:22Speaker 5: to coach Peyton. It was the greatest coaching job he
- 29:25Speaker 5: ever did in New Orleans. It was the very best
- 29:29Speaker 5: when you have that many and you play players on
- 29:32Speaker 5: a team and piecing that all together. I used this
- 29:38Speaker 5: term two days ago when somebody asked me to describe it,
- 29:41Speaker 5: I said, it was the first NFL nil team get
- 29:46Speaker 5: to get deep into the playoffs, because you think about
- 29:50Speaker 5: twenty nine or fifty three when you guys that that's
- 29:55Speaker 5: a chunk. And boy, it worked and man, and they
- 30:00Speaker 5: started to believe in themselves and started to believe in Drew.
- 30:05Speaker 5: And you had a really dynamic backfield with Druce McAllister
- 30:10Speaker 5: in his prime along with Reggie Bush.
- 30:14Speaker 2: What Mike Ntilier has been covering the Saints for forty years,
- 30:17Speaker 2: He joins us on the Out of Bounds Show. Drew
- 30:19Speaker 2: brees first ballot Hall of Famer. Y'all all know he
- 30:22Speaker 2: brought the Lombardi Trophy to New Orleans, Super Bowl, Sean
- 30:26Speaker 2: Drew and so many others. And as Drew said in
- 30:29Speaker 2: the audio that we dropped earlier, he realized that he
- 30:33Speaker 2: was going to be a part of the resurrection of
- 30:35Speaker 2: one of America's greatest cities. And the rest is history.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Football drove it, Culinary drove it, Mike lived it, and
- 30:43Speaker 2: people rallied and it was just it was increasing. They
- 30:46Speaker 2: went to the NFC Championship game in year one, Mike,
- 30:49Speaker 2: what was that first home playoff game? Like, I think
- 30:53Speaker 2: I guess the Eagles in the Supernome.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Yeah, man, it was a crazy atmosphere. We were doing
- 30:59Speaker 5: pre game outside Okay at that time, and man, the
- 31:05Speaker 5: fans were some revved up about it. And the Eagles
- 31:09Speaker 5: came in here with a with a bad to the
- 31:11Speaker 5: bone defense. They were really good and that game, the
- 31:15Speaker 5: one thing I remember was Deuce. I mean he sort
- 31:19Speaker 5: of put that team on his back late and he
- 31:22Speaker 5: carried him through running the football. He was fantastic in
- 31:27Speaker 5: that game. But the atmosphere was electric. H no matter
- 31:34Speaker 5: because I parked, somebody actually drove me to the game.
- 31:40Speaker 5: So we actually parked about a block and a half
- 31:44Speaker 5: away from the dome and I had to walk, uh,
- 31:48Speaker 5: you know to where we did three k man, you
- 31:51Speaker 5: got stopped like every two steps stop, two steps stopped.
- 31:56Speaker 5: People were all excited. They were some thrilled that the
- 32:01Speaker 5: Saints were, you know, in the playoffs. Had an opportunity.
- 32:07Speaker 5: The day before, the NBC Nightly News did a segment
- 32:14Speaker 5: on the Saints and I got interviewed for it, and
- 32:18Speaker 5: I'm like, man, NBC Nightly News doing a story on
- 32:22Speaker 5: the Saints, and it went to show that, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 5: I think the win, the winning ways that the Saints
- 32:32Speaker 5: got for many people who suffered devastating losses in Katrina.
- 32:38Speaker 5: It was sort of the look beyond. You know, hey,
- 32:43Speaker 5: look we difficult times, and it gave them some relief.
- 32:49Speaker 5: And I think every player that talked to you back
- 32:52Speaker 5: then said the same thing that they knew they were
- 32:55Speaker 5: playing for something bigger than just a football game. You
- 33:00Speaker 5: were playing for a community that had really been devastated
- 33:04Speaker 5: in many ways, and they wanted to give everything they
- 33:09Speaker 5: had to them to give to make them happy for
- 33:11Speaker 5: a little while. And then you know, you have to
- 33:14Speaker 5: go home and try to rebuild everything. So it was.
- 33:18Speaker 5: It was a crazy time. And you know, I live
- 33:23Speaker 5: sixty miles south and to west of New Orleans. The
- 33:29Speaker 5: community I live in, we didn't really have a much
- 33:34Speaker 5: damage done for Katrina at all. It goes to show
- 33:37Speaker 5: what you know with a hurricane, how you know you're
- 33:40Speaker 5: just living a little bit away in how it doesn't
- 33:43Speaker 5: affect you. Now. Ida was a different story. We got through.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I got a direct hit from Ida. But Katrina, we
- 33:50Speaker 5: didn't get that here on the Bayo at all. Are
- 33:55Speaker 5: very little of it. And yet the New Orleans and
- 33:57Speaker 5: medical community really really caught it. And when the levees broke, uh,
- 34:02Speaker 5: that was unbelievable. Devastation. No matter where you passed. You know,
- 34:07Speaker 5: there were furniture in people's you know, stuff inside their
- 34:12Speaker 5: home that were outside. You know, it damaged. You didn't
- 34:16Speaker 5: have it anymore, you lost it. So many people lost
- 34:20Speaker 5: everything with it, and I think the players felt that that.
- 34:23Speaker 5: You know, hey, listen, we planned for something a lot
- 34:26Speaker 5: bigger than a football game.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Mike Dettillier WWL Radio on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest Line.
- 34:35Speaker 2: He's sharing stories of the resurrection of one of America's
- 34:41Speaker 2: greatest cities, New Orleans, post Katrina, and what Drew Brees
- 34:45Speaker 2: and Sean Payton, among many many others did for the city.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Drew's going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on
- 34:52Speaker 2: August eighth, and who that nation will be partying on
- 34:56Speaker 2: that Saturday. Mike, if you could ten point one thing
- 35:01Speaker 2: that this is hard to do because he did so
- 35:02Speaker 2: many things. Well, but you've been around NFL people for
- 35:08Speaker 2: forty years.
- 35:08Speaker 3: If you could.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Pinpoint one thing that made Drew Brees the quarterback that
- 35:15Speaker 2: he is, what.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Was it his passion for the game. I mean, I've
- 35:23Speaker 5: been around a lot of athletes, but very few of
- 35:27Speaker 5: them had his passion for what he did. I mean,
- 35:32Speaker 5: he put everything he had in. He was super competitive.
- 35:38Speaker 5: This was after a practice one time they had a
- 35:40Speaker 5: little dunk tank and so everybody would sit on that
- 35:48Speaker 5: little stool the way to get dunked, and Drew and
- 35:51Speaker 5: some of the other quarterbacks came over and man Drew
- 35:54Speaker 5: was competitive with that. He missed it the first time completely,
- 36:01Speaker 5: you know, he missed that big section that hit. But
- 36:06Speaker 5: that was the last time he missed it. He missed
- 36:08Speaker 5: it once. Everything else if you were sitting on there,
- 36:11Speaker 5: you got dunked because he was so upset that he
- 36:17Speaker 5: had missed it the first time, and after that, if
- 36:23Speaker 5: you were sitting up there, you were getting with He
- 36:27Speaker 5: was not gonna he was not gonna miss it, and
- 36:30Speaker 5: so he you know that that was him. He was
- 36:33Speaker 5: super passionate about it and he was listen. I think
- 36:39Speaker 5: the one thing that gets overlooked is how talented an
- 36:42Speaker 5: athlete he is. Right he he was. He's a tremendous athlete.
- 36:47Speaker 5: Plays pickleball today, plays left handed because he can't really
- 36:51Speaker 5: lift his right his right arm up anymore. So he
- 36:55Speaker 5: learned how to play golf and pickleball and over his
- 36:58Speaker 5: left hand, which is just amazing. But it goes to show. Uh,
- 37:03Speaker 5: you know how Drew Brees is as a competitor, and
- 37:08Speaker 5: there's nothing. You know, if you challenge him, you you
- 37:13Speaker 5: in for quite a battle. You might beat him, but
- 37:16Speaker 5: you in for quite a battle to do it. And
- 37:19Speaker 5: that and I think he takes that now into being
- 37:23Speaker 5: a businessman that you know, he's competitive out there and
- 37:27Speaker 5: and he you know, he's involved in so many things
- 37:30Speaker 5: locally here and also out in California. But I would
- 37:35Speaker 5: say his passion for the game is the one thing
- 37:38Speaker 5: that drives him because you know what, all his life
- 37:40Speaker 5: people told him you're not big enough. That's right, and
- 37:44Speaker 5: it sticks in his head. It's a great tennis player.
- 37:47Speaker 5: He's a really good golfer. He taught you know, he
- 37:51Speaker 5: talked to us last year about this for quite some time.
- 37:55Speaker 5: We did a show at Manning's Children's Hospital and Archie
- 38:02Speaker 5: recalled him giving Drew an award as the best quarterback
- 38:07Speaker 5: in the state of Texas, and Drew started to go
- 38:11Speaker 5: off on the fact he grew up a Texas Aggie fan.
- 38:15Speaker 5: He wanted to play for Texas A and M. They
- 38:18Speaker 5: never offered him. Same thing at the University of Texas
- 38:23Speaker 5: never offered him and I think you if you listened,
- 38:29Speaker 5: you can almost hear that I'm gonna show you. I'm
- 38:33Speaker 5: going to show you just how good I am. And
- 38:36Speaker 5: he did go to purdueit and he says, now it
- 38:39Speaker 5: was you know, it's the best thing to happen. I
- 38:41Speaker 5: tell her day Bear all the time. Okay. He was
- 38:43Speaker 5: a one year quarterback in high school and he wanted
- 38:47Speaker 5: to go to LSU. His dad was a HU LSUE fan,
- 38:50Speaker 5: and he wanted to go to LSU to play. LSU
- 38:53Speaker 5: never offered him. He was the last scholarship given to
- 38:56Speaker 5: Northwestern State in Louisiana. He went there and he got
- 39:00Speaker 5: mentored by Joe Ferguson, former Arkansas play in the NFL
- 39:04Speaker 5: for years with Bufflo. That would have never happened had
- 39:08Speaker 5: he went to LSU. And sometimes God put you in
- 39:12Speaker 5: the right place, right time, and for Drew, he was
- 39:15Speaker 5: right place, right time to go to Purdue. They threw
- 39:18Speaker 5: the football tremendous amount and it honed his craft as
- 39:24Speaker 5: a as a passer. And you know then the other
- 39:28Speaker 5: things that happened with the shoulder injury, and you know
- 39:32Speaker 5: that they had to make the decision. Uh, And he
- 39:35Speaker 5: knew politically when you look at it that when you
- 39:38Speaker 5: picked Philip Urpos as high as they did, and you
- 39:42Speaker 5: know you weren't gonna stay, you were going to have
- 39:45Speaker 5: to go somewhere else. And the fact that Miami's doctors,
- 39:50Speaker 5: Randy Mullers told us the story numerous times. He was there.
- 39:53Speaker 5: He was the GM for Nick Saban. Randy's a consultant
- 39:58Speaker 5: now with the Saints, but wasn't far or GM there
- 40:01Speaker 5: with the Saints, and he talked about, you know, doctor Stolem,
- 40:06Speaker 5: we can't guarantee anything, and so they made the decision
- 40:11Speaker 5: to sort of move on, and that that that changed
- 40:16Speaker 5: the course of two teams dramatically, the Dolphins and then
- 40:22Speaker 5: certainly changed the team with the Saints. And then what
- 40:25Speaker 5: he did for University of Alabama, what what happened there
- 40:31Speaker 5: sort of change the outlook all the way across the board,
- 40:35Speaker 5: so you know, kind of the one domino hit the
- 40:38Speaker 5: next domino to get you out. But you know, Drew again,
- 40:43Speaker 5: his impact on this team. He's there. There probably were
- 40:48Speaker 5: players that were you know, from a talent standpoint, as
- 40:51Speaker 5: talented is Drew, but the impact he had for this community,
- 40:56Speaker 5: this team, Uh, I'm not gonna live long enough to
- 41:00Speaker 5: see another one like him.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Me neither.
- 41:23Speaker 2: In Norland, Saints History and Louisiana. And that's counting a
- 41:26Speaker 2: bunch of unbelievable players in both the Saints and LSU.
- 41:30Speaker 2: But he's He's the number one dude, and man, there's
- 41:34Speaker 2: gonna be a lot of tears in a good way.
- 41:38Speaker 2: On August eighth, as people watch Sean Payton introduce him
- 41:43Speaker 2: and Drew talk about his journey to.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's okay. Everybody's journey is different. In the NFL
- 41:52Speaker 5: that there, you know, there's so many great stories. But
- 41:56Speaker 5: you know, people say, you know, what's the one thing
- 41:59Speaker 5: you take away from Ruined? What he did for the city,
- 42:01Speaker 5: in the community and for the who that nations all great,
- 42:06Speaker 5: But if you really want to see what type of
- 42:08Speaker 5: impact he is, walk with him for a little while
- 42:12Speaker 5: somewhere and you and you feel like a cheap watch.
- 42:45Speaker 5: H m hm hm.
- 42:57Speaker 3: M all right, we love Mike Nttillier.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Brought to you by the Fried Oyster po' boy at
- 43:04Speaker 2: Martin's and Livingston
