Transcript
- 0:00Hello, there. It's time for most things
- 0:02Kenobi. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:17episode of most things can o be a podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi
- 0:21and all things Star Wars. I'm your host Leanne and I'm
- 0:24your host Lauren. And this week, we haven't done
- 0:29many of these. Have we book reviews know.
- 0:33We've done a few short stories. Yeah, it's so far, right?
- 0:37So this is our first book review, like an actual, it's
- 0:41because we like it, right? It's yeah, I'm a picky star.
- 0:45Wars book reader honestly between Lauren and I bet you we
- 0:49could name like three books out of the Star Wars books list that
- 0:52we actually like yeah. And this is one of them.
- 0:56They were we are reviewing Rebel Rising by Beth Revis or Reavis.
- 1:02I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
- 1:04Yeah, I see it either where. I mean, I should have knowledge,
- 1:07he's Beth. Yeah, you did a fabulous job but
- 1:10sorry really. Did you really did?
- 1:12This is a good one. And in fact, our friend and
- 1:16Patron Kevin was the one that suggested we read it and he was
- 1:20not wrong. Yes, yeah, it was good.
- 1:24It was and it was not, I think it's kind of like a young adult
- 1:27book, isn't it? Allegedly, but what does that
- 1:31even mean anymore? I've read, I've read so many
- 1:34series that were dubbed. Young adult that were fantastic.
- 1:38Beautiful character building World building, some scandalous.
- 1:44- in them, and they were labeled young adults, just like Clone
- 1:47Wars skid shell. Right.
- 1:49Right. Exactly.
- 1:51Well, it because it was young adult, it was like larger print
- 1:54on the page and I could read it way faster because I love
- 1:58reading but I don't have a lot of time for reading.
- 2:01What we love gin. Yes, I love gin and I got
- 2:05through it way faster than some of the other books.
- 2:08So yeah, I didn't get to like page 50 and say nope with this
- 2:12one which is awesome. What happens?
- 2:14With Star Wars books like yeah can you and I are very similar.
- 2:19We are. And I think a big part of it is
- 2:22tone like getting the characters voice.
- 2:25Yes, it is really important to me and I think to you also and
- 2:29not every writer is really good at capturing.
- 2:33Like Luke is always terrible like these misrepresented in my
- 2:38opinion, A lot of the times. So I'm really picky about
- 2:43Stories about Luke. Did, I misrepresent him in my
- 2:47story that I wrote about know, you did it, it takes knowing a
- 2:52character. I think, pretty well to give
- 2:54them a voice, right? So I think so, yeah.
- 2:56And you can to me like how I kind of do it as I just absorb a
- 3:02lot of material. Yeah.
- 3:05And then, my brain kind of naturally starts to think that
- 3:08happened to me even watching Better Call Saul.
- 3:11I started thinking In so Goodman's voice for a few days
- 3:15because we're binging it so much.
- 3:17I was like I need to take a break.
- 3:19My parents loved that show. By the way, it's a very good
- 3:22show. I will say I'm kind of bummed.
- 3:24The Bob Odenkirk beat Diego Luna for the Critics Choice Award,
- 3:29although he is an excellent actor.
- 3:32I felt like Diego deserve something.
- 3:35He'll get it maybe season 2. Yeah, to be honored in a Sci-Fi
- 3:41show of any kind is like, I remember when Lord of the Rings
- 3:44won best movie for Return of the King.
- 3:47That was like, a big moment because like fantasy just
- 3:50doesn't get the accolades that a lot of stuff does and you have
- 3:55to bring a human factor to it otherwise it's just fluff,
- 3:58right? Yeah, well I mean, speaking of
- 4:01human factor there's plenty of this in here and What I really
- 4:05like is that there's not a lot of dialogue.
- 4:07It's a lot of ginseng, thoughts, Jin's interpretation Jin's fears
- 4:12which we know she has a lot of. She doesn't talk a lot anyway.
- 4:16Mmm. Like you know when she does,
- 4:20it's very grandiose and you know, Rogue one button You can
- 4:26tell, she's kind of she's stews. She Broods.
- 4:33Hmm, and I mean, it comes from what will you end up learning in
- 4:38this book? Like what happened after saw
- 4:40gerrera, picks her up out of that safety tunnel, or bunker or
- 4:44whatever her parents made for her, right?
- 4:47That's where this picks up. Yeah, it's this book is actually
- 4:51quite sad. It is, it is, especially after I
- 4:57read it after watching and or and kind of like while I was
- 5:01watching Hang it and to see their parallel backstories is
- 5:06pretty bleak, honestly. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:09I mean, it's awful, but it's it kind of makes me think like it's
- 5:15no surprise. They sacrifice themselves, you
- 5:17know what I mean? Like right, they tried so hard
- 5:21over and over and over to do good and then like that was
- 5:25their crowning moment, like all of this sadness led to something
- 5:29really incredible? Yeah, Animo.
- 5:32Until like redeem, some Gin did some pretty terrible shit and
- 5:38this book that's, I don't know. It was an interesting portrayal
- 5:44because it's basically watching a person Scratch Out survival
- 5:49the whole time the whole time, which is very common in real
- 5:53life. So many people Follow this
- 5:59unfortunate path. When I mean, she interpreted,
- 6:03well, it was interesting because she wavered between feeling like
- 6:07there was some hope that she'd find her dad eventually that he
- 6:11didn't mean to leave her and then she wavered back to, he
- 6:15abandoned me. He really is like, for the
- 6:18Empire and he can't be trusted. And I think that's interesting.
- 6:22When you look at it, from the point of view of Rogue one where
- 6:25she was. So, Like she was so relieved to
- 6:28see her father she wanted to get to her father.
- 6:31I think everyone holds on to that hope that their parent
- 6:34didn't abandon them. Yeah.
- 6:37And I think you see that more in the film than is portrayed in
- 6:40the books and she's let's talk about this a little bit because
- 6:46I was kind of like, why did they come to this conclusion?
- 6:49Honestly, because they're on lamu.
- 6:53They're in hiding Jin knows. They're in hiding.
- 6:57And saw knows that they're in hiding.
- 7:01And the reason they would call him is because quranic found
- 7:05them. That's exactly what happened.
- 7:09So why does he tell Jin that? Your father has chosen the
- 7:13Empire over you my thought was to disconnect her from him.
- 7:19Yeah. Like there's no hope stop hoping
- 7:22you're ever going to see him disconnect from that because
- 7:24you're not going to survive because she had to be in hiding.
- 7:26She Could not say who she was? She was just some girl saw his
- 7:30girl. So I was a little girl, right?
- 7:33You know, everyone in like the bandits is his band of of
- 7:38people, I don't even know what to call them his ne'er-do-wells.
- 7:41Yeah, like his green Ruffians. Yeah, it didn't ask questions,
- 7:46but they wondered who she was and obviously, it was very
- 7:50obvious. That's all loved her in his own
- 7:53way, right? That was weeks, it's so much
- 7:56more sad. I know it's very deeply sad and
- 8:01I really liked how we get a look at saw in a way we never have
- 8:05before because we see him. I guess we're introduced to
- 8:08maybe on onderon and Clone Wars. I think that's the first time.
- 8:12Yeah. And yeah.
- 8:13And it's sisters alive. So keep that in mind.
- 8:15Yeah. And what like it's literally his
- 8:20action that creates her death which is just fucking
- 8:25devastating. It is so depressing.
- 8:27Thing to watch all the episodes of the under on Ark, and that's
- 8:30how it ends. You're just like, what?
- 8:32The fuck? Clone Wars terrible kids show.
- 8:36Yeah, exactly. God, it's awful.
- 8:39You're like, oh, they win. Oh, they don't win.
- 8:42But it brings this weird dynamic between him and gin where it's
- 8:48like, you know, he cares about her and he loves her and he
- 8:51calls her his daughter and he's proud of her.
- 8:54But then he has this coldness also where Doesn't have.
- 8:59He doesn't know how to care for a child.
- 9:00So like he just gives her nutritive milk and that's it for
- 9:04food and like basically teaches her, how to survive and protect
- 9:09herself. But he has this way of
- 9:13withholding his approval as like, a way, a means of
- 9:18controlling her behavior which is maybe not even a conscious
- 9:22choice. I know because he's he's clearly
- 9:25battling his own demons of his Stir this entire book?
- 9:28Yeah, he's He knows that he loves Jin.
- 9:34He wants her to survive, he wants her to make it because his
- 9:38sister didn't, and he's trying to make up for that.
- 9:41I think that's my interpretation, but he also
- 9:44knows that getting too close and loving someone too much leads to
- 9:47hurt because it did for. Yeah, it's vulnerability for
- 9:51sure that he is really uncomfortable with, which if you
- 9:55think about, Diego. What's his name and or cassia?
- 10:01Yeah, he had a loving openly loving set of parents
- 10:04stepparents, right. Mmm.
- 10:07And he distanced himself it, I mean he loved his mother but
- 10:10like There was a weird. Like he had it was almost like
- 10:17he's trying to keep himself from it.
- 10:20Because he knows that you had also it all of this leads to
- 10:23pain because as a child he got separated from his sister and it
- 10:28creates a deep divide and the same thing for Jin.
- 10:32She could separate it from her parents and though she was taken
- 10:36by someone who quote loved her, it might have been hard to ever
- 10:41feel like you're fully fully accepted because even the simple
- 10:47thing of having the kyber crystal necklace.
- 10:50Yes. So I was like, you have to cover
- 10:52that shit up. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:54All the time because people are looking at it right and it
- 10:58explains why she has the scarf and Rogue one that she wears but
- 11:01like I just think of what that does to a child, you know, from
- 11:07a very early age, trying to get approval, from somebody who is
- 11:11kind of cold in a little bit scary, you're not even quite
- 11:14sure. They even liked you at first and
- 11:16then they tell you to, like, cover up part of yourself
- 11:18because other people won't like it.
- 11:21It's just this child, just needs a hug really, though, like, oh,
- 11:27she got that. You got one at the very end.
- 11:31Oh God one. As the only one, who hugs her
- 11:35while they die. I can't.
- 11:39They both like he needs one too. It's just the saddest parallel
- 11:44ever. Do you believe that the force
- 11:47brought them together? I do.
- 11:52I mean, Tony Gilroy brother together.
- 11:55Well, yeah, I mean literally, but I don't know, like, I'm, I'm
- 12:00I'm working on a fix right now that like I skirt around the
- 12:04edge of the force with it because they kind of both of
- 12:07them. Don't really believe it that
- 12:10much right. Which is interesting because in
- 12:14my opinion I think the force works like that.
- 12:18It does draw like Souls together, it's a like-minded but
- 12:24similar. Souls together.
- 12:26These two lost hurting abandoned people in one way or another
- 12:32find each other, but a lot of people don't believe that the
- 12:35force works like that. You could say, that's, you know,
- 12:38a topic of like faith and all this stuff that we won't touch
- 12:41upon but it is very similar. Yeah.
- 12:44But it's the two people who didn't believe in it.
- 12:47That war kyber crystal. Necklace has both of them,
- 12:50right? I've had them come together.
- 12:52Like, I love that. I do too.
- 12:55I think it's it's something that I think both the characters also
- 12:59kind of like, they know that Jedi existed and yeah, the
- 13:05Khyber has power and Jin knows that powered the Jedi's
- 13:09lightsaber and every now and then she reaches out and touches
- 13:12it and holds it in the book, in the movie, in the movie.
- 13:16Yeah. Multiple times.
- 13:17And they even say it. In the book, at least I think in
- 13:22the Rogue one book she doesn't know if it has spiritual power
- 13:27but she's willing to like accept it if it does, if it's going to
- 13:31help what they're trying to do. So yeah, I don't know.
- 13:35I think that's a really interesting question honestly
- 13:37because yes I would like to think that since they're such
- 13:41desperate disparate character. Yeah.
- 13:45That they spend their entire lives.
- 13:50Surviving. You know.
- 13:52Yeah. Living.
- 13:54But like no just in survival mode constantly.
- 13:58And but we do see in this book she lives a little when she gets
- 14:03with the family, the mom and the and the sun.
- 14:06Yeah, it was the name of the planet.
- 14:08They were on. I thought it was a cool planet
- 14:09the way it sounded goal, I think something like that, it's okay,
- 14:12because it sounded to me like Prince Edward Island like long,
- 14:17sweeping grasses and plateaus. And not necessarily like lothal
- 14:22but I don't know. I had this beautiful idea of
- 14:28like Eastern Canada, fareeza Canada, like with cowboy town in
- 14:33the middle. Kind of yeah.
- 14:35That's Prairie Canada, but right, because I was thinking
- 14:39more Maritime. Well, I mean they said, I had
- 14:42this small town with a Cantina in the middle and every sickly
- 14:45everybody knew each other and yeah, it, yeah.
- 14:50Yeah it definitely made me think of Frontier living.
- 14:54Yeah some kind or another. Yeah that was that was that
- 14:58whole thing, is she lived a little bit?
- 14:59She got to experience a little bit of living versus survive
- 15:03still so on survival mode because I don't think Jin knows
- 15:05any other mode. But she did get to experience
- 15:09like some of the pleasures of like being free for one.
- 15:13Yeah. And I think that's what's so
- 15:15fucking sad is. So it's the word down.
- 15:18She finally let her guard down. Little bit and it ends so badly
- 15:22and you just know it. Will they never kind of release
- 15:26you from that overhanging Doom the whole time she's there but
- 15:31ah, I had hope reading it that it didn't do and it but yeah,
- 15:37who's the fool us. So ours is pain.
- 15:41Come on now. Lee Anne, you know better
- 15:44there's a cluster here down the an well I just wanted so
- 15:49desperately for Jinda, not be disappointed.
- 15:52Yeah, we literally see throughout this book.
- 15:55Why is she so guarded in Rogue one?
- 15:57And she has every right to be because this book doesn't just
- 16:02plot out her life at, like, in the years that we don't see
- 16:06prior to Rogue one. It plots out her time in the, in
- 16:10the prison. Yes.
- 16:13Oh yeah. Which is absolutely Bleek,
- 16:19Bleek. The bleakest thing I've ever
- 16:22read. It was well done her.
- 16:24Roommates made me very sad. Yeah.
- 16:31And then you think now that you watch and or and then you talk
- 16:34about this book, the day and day out of his prison sentence if
- 16:39you will and their survival and his roommates or his Corridor
- 16:46mates. Yes cells.
- 16:48They weren't Bridges or levels or something.
- 16:50Yeah, right. It's just awful.
- 16:53What the empire did to break the spirit of so many is just Awful.
- 16:59Yeah, it's really crazy. And God, there were so many
- 17:05moments and like, it kept escalating with her in the
- 17:09prison. Like every time they would do a
- 17:11little chapter in the middle of whatever was going on where they
- 17:14kind of bring you back to. Whoa.
- 17:15Bonnie. Because the intersperse will
- 17:17Bonnie throughout the whole book.
- 17:20If you read the top where it starts, it describes her charges
- 17:26almost every time there's a new section of what.
- 17:28Bonnie, she has a new charge. Yeah.
- 17:31And it's because either she does something or she gets caught up
- 17:36in the middle of something that she had really nothing to do
- 17:39with. I mean bright and like one time
- 17:42she picked up a piece of metal or piece of glass something.
- 17:45Yes. And they charged her with having
- 17:47a weapon. It's yes.
- 17:48Like she was going to It as a weapon for sure.
- 17:51Just like fuck. I just picked it up.
- 17:53Like I didn't even do anything. I think the hardest part of all
- 17:58of those chapters for me was her like, furry, her long-haired
- 18:04made mad fuck. That was the most depressing
- 18:07part of this book that and when like saw never came back for
- 18:10her, he really did leave her. Yes.
- 18:12Do we ever get, why was it out of necessity?
- 18:16Or did he just leave her there? Do we not know.
- 18:19I was going to ask you. opinion on that because that sequence in
- 18:22the book, they get betrayed by one of the characters and You
- 18:27start to realize. Oh, this is that moment where
- 18:30she's like the last time I saw you you give me a knife at a
- 18:32little Blaster and told me to wait in a bunker because yeah,
- 18:36that wasn't obvious to me until all of a sudden.
- 18:39I was just like, wait, this is that moment?
- 18:41What the fuck? Yeah.
- 18:43And like, saw is bleeding to death, he's also fighting the
- 18:49guy who betrayed them. Yes.
- 18:52And that he just tells Jin to get the fuck out of here,
- 18:54basically. Yeah.
- 18:56Well the place is Blows and she makes it out, right because of
- 19:00his instruction and he says, I will come back for you and he
- 19:03never does. And it's like Jin has to make a
- 19:05choice. Do I stay here and wait, or is
- 19:08it just someone else that abandons me?
- 19:10So maybe he did. He was like horribly injured and
- 19:14I wondered do some of his like injuries and see in Rogue one
- 19:18come from this moment. Okay?
- 19:19Because like I think so yeah it was a lot of breathing
- 19:23injury-related like all over his face.
- 19:27All fucked up and yeah, it was just a bad situation.
- 19:30So Oh God, I don't know. I don't know.
- 19:34She had to get out of there though because she was starving.
- 19:36Right? She was and in there were like
- 19:39the planet was becoming chaos. It was pretty horrible us.
- 19:44And like, so she also is wondering, if saw is dead but
- 19:50that she finds out later he's not and he just literally is
- 19:53never coming looking for her. Yeah.
- 19:56Yeah. She knows some what he sent
- 19:59someone to find her to leave she died on us.
- 20:02Yeah, he still cares. Right?
- 20:05Question, mark in his weird way because that's the other thing
- 20:10too with saw, is he has this moral, he's like lives in the
- 20:14gray zone, right, where he has a moral code but it's really
- 20:20fucking weird. It's very loose and it changed.
- 20:24Yes, it changes. He's like, yeah, because she
- 20:27finds out like, damn, this is what our mission is what the
- 20:30fuck's saw. Right.
- 20:33And he's like, you know, for the greater good, whatever it takes,
- 20:35we do what we have to do And it's like, yes and no, maybe no.
- 20:41Yes, it keeps you guessing which I really like because it
- 20:45challenges the readers stance also, right.
- 20:50And you see, you see that play into and or two when he was much
- 20:55too have meeting with Lutheran where they're talking about Aunt
- 20:58or Krieger. Oh my God, I love it.
- 21:00Yes. Yes.
- 21:01Saw goes on that rant about Kriegers.
- 21:04A separatist and met a pays a deal, Republican and there.
- 21:08You're just an alliance sector as human cultures.
- 21:10I fucking love that line because then he's like, I am the only
- 21:14one with Clarity of purpose and lose and just laughs at him.
- 21:18Yes. Yes.
- 21:20So that okay, so luthan has been to the Keystone, which is saw in
- 21:30a sense. The Keystone that is, you know,
- 21:33brings it all all full circle in Rogue one with gin and cassia,
- 21:37right? And Lutheran is like in the
- 21:39middle of this and we see that finally and and or but you think
- 21:43about it like when did lose and come find saw was it before or
- 21:49after gin because we never saw Jin, I'm assuming hate but do
- 21:52you still not like fully fucked up?
- 21:55It's all right. Isn't physically.
- 21:58Well then there's the whole interspersing in the book Rebel
- 22:01Rising with idrisa. I'm not sure if I'm saying her
- 22:04name, right? But yeah.
- 22:05Oh yes, her. Yes.
- 22:07It's The kind of imply that she's with the quote real Rebel
- 22:12Alliance. Yeah.
- 22:14But it's like in the timeline, where does this fall into place
- 22:20with what's going on in and or, and like, what luthan is
- 22:22building? I'm really, I would like to
- 22:25like, look into that in more detail because there's so many
- 22:29just like what saw says, there's so many different factions.
- 22:34Yes, kind of all working towards the same.
- 22:37Well, not even just just fighting the Empire right.
- 22:39And right, right? He will work with some of them
- 22:44but not all of them. And if the money's right, he'll
- 22:47do it. You know, even changed his mind
- 22:49about Anto Krieger in. Yeah.
- 22:53Yeah. In and or he changed his mind,
- 22:56too late. Too late.
- 22:58I just was sitting here thinking, has anyone laughed and
- 23:03saw his face and lived? Besides luthan.
- 23:06I don't, they That's boss mode shit.
- 23:12That whole scene was so tense, and I loved it because like, you
- 23:15said, I think Lutheran's the only one who could get away with
- 23:18it, right. I want to know why though, I
- 23:22think, cause he really calls about his shit, because that's
- 23:24when he says, I have it written down here because I love it so
- 23:27much. Anika is a seductive concept, a
- 23:30bit of a luxury, I'd argue to a man who is hiding and cold caves
- 23:34and begging for spare parts and saws.
- 23:37Like fuck you, but you're right, you're you're fucking right, but
- 23:41fuck you. Hey, if you come with facts
- 23:48story, you know what I mean? If you come to correct size, not
- 23:52gonna hate on that know, he kind of respects.
- 23:55Directness honest. Yeah, Yeah, I love that.
- 23:59I love that. Those two are entangled in some
- 24:01way. I'm glad they put that in and or
- 24:03me too. And I just a lot going on.
- 24:05There's a lot of politics in these Rebel factions.
- 24:08Hmm. Yeah.
- 24:09And part of why saw hates Krieger is because he was a
- 24:13separatist and the separatists are.
- 24:14Why his sister? Yes.
- 24:16And yeah, I mean there's some there's some cold grudges that
- 24:22are carried over. I'll tell you what the Clone
- 24:25Wars was a big big thing for a lot of people.
- 24:28Yeah, ended up in the on this side of the Empire like them,
- 24:31taking over, right? I mean, even what's his name
- 24:38Jin's? Father, yeah, Galen right he
- 24:42works with the Empire to begin with because he thought it was
- 24:46better than the war they were all experiencing and they were
- 24:50going to fund his research. So you know, maybe it won't be
- 24:54so bad and poor Cassie and unknowingly built parts to form
- 25:01the Death. Star that Fucking bad Jin's.
- 25:06Father developed, there's an adult entertainment.
- 25:11Don't even know how entangled they are web.
- 25:14We weave in the Galaxy, it's okay.
- 25:18Fucking albertine. I blame palps, this motherfucker
- 25:23brought so much pain to everybody fuck you palps.
- 25:27He did he ruined a lot of lives as he did and pong Krell gets a
- 25:31break in this episode because it's fuck palp.
- 25:33In this one bug Croquettes a break.
- 25:36I love it. Just this episode.
- 25:40Maybe some others been. So okay, let's talk about Jin's
- 25:45like talent for making a clearance codes.
- 25:49How fucking cool is that? So fucking cool.
- 25:52She's and she also becomes becomes a counterfeit.
- 25:57ER, also. Yeah.
- 25:58Yeah, she's really good at these skills.
- 26:01It's pretty fucking cool. I just Loved that.
- 26:04I loved it so much and she was saying that she was like
- 26:06bartering or haggling with an emperor and Empire person who
- 26:11was like gambling too much. I love that.
- 26:13That's so like pedestrian for a nail Empire has just because it
- 26:17shows that like, okay, they're a big corporate entity government
- 26:22entity, that's terrifying but they're only as strong as the
- 26:26morons who work with them. Right?
- 26:27Right. And if there's people like this
- 26:31who are kind of bored in their post and Really give a shit
- 26:34what's going on. I thought that was a really
- 26:36interesting take. It's very different than what we
- 26:38normally see with Imperial characters.
- 26:43Yeah. Yes I love a good gambling
- 26:45problem. Amongst Imperial seat holders
- 26:51shows some realness in the Galaxy.
- 26:53Some seediness. You know because dude, no good
- 26:56can come from gambling debts, none.
- 26:58Nope but no good comes from negotiating with the Empire also
- 27:04notes, never the sequence of events that happens in the
- 27:08second half of this book is fucking nuts, right?
- 27:11So, she goes to the Five Points station immediately gets pulled
- 27:15into the Empire by Commander Solange, which I think is how
- 27:19you say that name. Go for instantly gets broke by
- 27:24Alejandro R. So for counterfeiting, his money
- 27:28gets put on a slave ship liberates.
- 27:31The slave ship gets Back in by the Empire by Admiral, Rock win,
- 27:38or whatever. The fuck that person's name is
- 27:40and then gets placed by her. This m, this Admiral into the
- 27:44partisan crew that she then betrays like it is.
- 27:49Yes. Yeah.
- 27:50So fucking depressing and she can't get a goddamn break.
- 27:53No, she can't. But we see how she knows how to
- 27:58fight so well, because Assad basically throughout this book
- 28:01how she can finagle. Eagle her way in and out of
- 28:04things. You know, why?
- 28:07She's so defensive all the time. In Rogue one, I'm talking like,
- 28:10we see the origins of it, and God damn it.
- 28:13I don't blame her one bit for being a cold hard bitch at the
- 28:16beginning of Rogue one, or at least throughout a lot of Rogue
- 28:19one. Distrusting of people, you know,
- 28:24just not believing in. It just stay.
- 28:25As far as far away from it. As you can, you know, any kind
- 28:29of like, I'm for, or against. She wants to stay neutral in the
- 28:32middle. With as little involvement as
- 28:35possible because look she went one way.
- 28:37Got caught went the opposite way got caught like each time, it
- 28:40was punishment for her and she lost people and was betrayed by
- 28:44people. I mean it's she really dislikes
- 28:47the rebels in this book especially right because they
- 28:51came in right but like she did say What's the difference?
- 28:55They what was their name Hatter and oh God I don't remember
- 29:00actually I I think is his mother's name.
- 29:03It was the family that you kind of lived with and she actually,
- 29:06I think had a relationship with the boy.
- 29:08They kind of come to. I started to fall in love a
- 29:10little bit. Well.
- 29:11Well, well well, well, how she kind of thought that casting
- 29:15looked like him with that jet black hair?
- 29:18Yeah. Oh my God, it was vaguely.
- 29:21Vaguely hinted at and I was like oh anyway sorry.
- 29:25Yeah no you're good. I think that when they get
- 29:29killed she thinks the rebels kill them and that's why.
- 29:33Hates the Empire, she hates the rebels.
- 29:35And that's why it's such a big fucking deal when Cassie and
- 29:39says, welcome home. Yeah.
- 29:42Because it's not him saying, welcome home to the Rebel
- 29:45Alliance because they're going rogue against the Rebel
- 29:48Alliance. It's welcome home to loyalty,
- 29:51like someone's going to stand by her side, all the way to the
- 29:54end. If that's what it takes.
- 29:56Yeah. And she has never had that never
- 30:01and that, huh? That hurts.
- 30:03So bad. I know they were so perfect and
- 30:09deserved so much more her and Chasm.
- 30:11So mine own. God damn it.
- 30:16Well fuck, man. There's a bummer.
- 30:21I got them both. So dear things as pain.
- 30:23I know, I feel so strongly more. So with them than maybe other
- 30:29characters, even that they deserve so much fucking better
- 30:32than they got. Well, how often do we hear this?
- 30:35And Star Wars that same sentence, they deserve so much
- 30:38better than they got. That could go for just about 80%
- 30:41of the characters. I know, I just think that when
- 30:45you look at Luke, he at least had people who loved him, raise
- 30:48him, and he had a shelter childhood, and you think about
- 30:50Obi-Wan who had his life until it fell apart.
- 30:54Jinnah, Cassie, and had no joy or safety ever.
- 30:58Their entire flying moments, fleeting moments.
- 31:02Yeah, And as soon as they get settled, they just rip it away,
- 31:07you know, but that is some people's lot life.
- 31:10I mean, that is, you know, you just can't catch a break.
- 31:14Yeah, remember to be very blessed.
- 31:18Remember to stay thankful for what you've been blessed with.
- 31:21Because kassian and Jinn are examples of just They didn't
- 31:30have a chance from the start and in their passing gave everyone
- 31:36else a chance that they never got.
- 31:38I mean it's yeah it's a beautiful story, a heartbreaking
- 31:42one. But one that's very common.
- 31:44I mean we see it in the great literature of our time the
- 31:48sacrifice of one or two or many makes it possible for so many
- 31:55more to live a better life. It's lengthens I burned my life
- 31:59for the sunrise. Sighs.
- 32:00I'll Never See. I have it hanging directly in
- 32:02front of me. On my pegboard, what do you
- 32:05sacrifice? And it's this whole thing.
- 32:07And I've been looking at it, this whole fucking time.
- 32:10Because I never want to forget what he said ever and what he
- 32:13meant behind it. It's so brilliant.
- 32:16And so poignant and represents more characters than just
- 32:20himself honestly. So, that's why we wanted to talk
- 32:24about this book now post and or obviously post Rogue one but
- 32:29like, I wanted better for both of them.
- 32:35All of them, all of them. Oh my God.
- 32:38They deserved it serves that much better.
- 32:40How many times did I say it too? Many times?
- 32:43Say it one more time. Fuck.
- 32:44It said gin and Cassian deserved so much better.
- 32:48There you go. And of episode rubber Rising
- 32:5210/10 for me. Yeah, Sam and I loved it.
- 33:01The question this week for our audience and listeners is if
- 33:04you've read Rebel Rising, how many stars?
- 33:07Would you give it 10 out of 10, 10 being the best, one out of
- 33:11ten, being threw it in the garbage?
- 33:13I don't know. Yeah, let us know what your
- 33:16rating of the book Rebel Rising by Beth Revis.
- 33:22Next week we are going to focus on the very beautiful, very
- 33:27talented. Matt Lanter.
- 33:29Yes, and I will ask the question in hopes that he gives me an
- 33:33answer. What the fuck?
- 33:34Anakin Whispers to the zai Jian Queen, just throwing it out
- 33:38there. I tagged him on Instagram but he
- 33:40didn't look at it. I know you did.
- 33:44So maybe a whole episode about how great he is and how great
- 33:47his talents are Beyond Star Wars will.
- 33:50An answer. Yes.
- 33:51He's a very, very good on Screen Actor as well.
- 33:54So I have a show that I watched a binged and I can't wait to
