- 0:11Hi, I'm Jay Fallon, thanks for listening to The Slippery Slope.
- 0:13So this story is it's been here for a few days now.
- 0:17I just wanted to to comment on it.
- 0:21There's a few things that really surprised me in in some ways and
- 0:26other parts of the story I think, well, what did we all
- 0:28expect? It surprises me the the way
- 0:31people are reacting and they seem so surprised in what the
- 0:36Church of England has done. Yet if you look at where the
- 0:40Church of England has been going for quite a while, you would
- 0:43think, well, OK, it's not that surprising.
- 0:46I think they possibly stopped being a church long before they
- 0:51made this announcement. So the the story what what I'm
- 0:55talking about is how the Church of England has decided that they
- 0:59are going to take church the word church out of out of their
- 1:04title. So I'll just read of you a bit
- 1:07of this headline here. It came through on MSN.
- 1:11Like I said, this story has been here for a little while, but
- 1:14it's interesting. So Church of England dropping
- 1:16were church to be more modern because it obviously, well, as
- 1:21we all know if you're a Christian, yeah, it makes a lot
- 1:24of sense to try and be more modern and not just follow the
- 1:27word of God. That's yeah, that's always
- 1:29helpful. I'm being facetious.
- 1:31So the Church of England is increasingly dropping the word
- 1:34church in favour of relevant and modern sounding descriptions
- 1:39such as community. A new study suggests now when
- 1:44these these places, they want to become more relevant, they
- 1:49they're just on a slippery slope.
- 1:51Becoming more relevant just signals that they are
- 1:56disregarding the word of God and placing more emphasis on modern
- 2:03culture, on culture. And if you're going to disregard
- 2:07the word of God, you're not really a church anyway.
- 2:12You're everything that you're based on, your beliefs.
- 2:16It makes you different from the rest of the world because you're
- 2:21following the teachings that are in the Bible.
- 2:24You're following the word of God.
- 2:26This is what the word of God has said.
- 2:29This is what you're following. This is what you're obeying.
- 2:31This is why you're obeying it. You're not just out there trying
- 2:36to be more modern, more relevant.
- 2:39If you're a Christian, you believe that you have the truth.
- 2:44The Bible leads us to the truth. Like Jesus is saying that, you
- 2:48know, narrow. Narrow is the way.
- 2:51Narrow is the way. OK, not, not broad, not broad.
- 2:56It's narrow. The word of God is very narrow
- 3:01in the, in the way it's describes it.
- 3:03It's not trying to be relevant. The word of God is just trying.
- 3:09It's not trying. It's not the way to say it.
- 3:11It's it's showing you truth. Like Jesus said, I am the way he
- 3:19is the way the truth. I am the way the truth.
- 3:27He is the truth. And yet, so why are we so
- 3:30surprised when we see the Church of England or whatever they want
- 3:34to be called now, when they see them trying to be more modern,
- 3:37more relevant? I think it's because they're not
- 3:40actually a church. They stopped being a church a
- 3:42long time ago. So the Anglican Church always
- 3:45get mixed up with this because the Church of England is the
- 3:47Anglican Church apparently. So appears to be increasingly
- 3:51avoiding the word church when discussing the creation of new
- 3:55worshipping communities and congregations, a report has
- 3:59found. So the Centre for Church
- 4:01Planting, Theology and Research looked at the language used by
- 4:0511 diocese to describe new churches.
- 4:08The creation of a new church group is traditionally referred
- 4:12to referred to as a church plant.
- 4:15But the report found that while 900 new churches had been
- 4:18started by the diocese in the last last decade, none had used
- 4:23the phrase church plant as the primary way to describe the
- 4:28project. The The report's author,
- 4:31Reverend Dr Will Bolger, Vicar of Saint Nicholas in Dharam,
- 4:37found that six of the 11 diocese used the language of worship in
- 4:41their main descriptor of new church projects to use.
- 4:45Two use congregation and seven used community.
- 4:51Dr Gauls Gauls Fraser, the speaker of Saint Anne's Q, told
- 4:58The Telegraph that he this apparent reluctance to use the
- 5:01word church reflects a misplaced desire to be relevant and modern
- 5:07sounding. But like I said, can't we really
- 5:11be, should we really be surprised by the way we're
- 5:14going? So I've checked out a few
- 5:16different things with with with the way the Anglican or the
- 5:22Church of England has been going.
- 5:25So this report here which comes out, it says Synod signals
- 5:31support for Anglican way forward on same sex relationships.
- 5:35This came here just in July 2024.
- 5:38The Church of England's General Synod, which is like the
- 5:41Church's Parliament has given agreement and principle to
- 5:45taking forward outline proposals for the wider use of prayers
- 5:51asking for God's blessing with same sex couples in church
- 5:57services asking for God's blessing.
- 6:01OK, so the word of God, God has specifically said specifically
- 6:08said that you shouldn't that that men should not lie with
- 6:12men, women should not lie with women.
- 6:16OK, Specifically said it and yet they want to ask for God's
- 6:20blessing. Hey, we know that you said this,
- 6:22God, but we want to disregard what the word of God said.
- 6:27We want to disregard teachings in the Bible.
- 6:29We want to disregard specific, specific teaching because we
- 6:34want to do what we want to do, regardless of what you want.
- 6:39I'll, I'll just bring the article up so you can see what
- 6:41I'm talking about. So the Synod, so the Church of
- 6:43England says that here. OK.
- 6:44So Synod members supported a motion signalling approval for a
- 6:49broad package of proposals designed to help hold the Church
- 6:54together amid deep disagreements over questions of sexuality.
- 7:00A selection of readings and prayers of Thanksgiving,
- 7:03dedication and asking for God's blessing for same sex couples,
- 7:07known as prayers of love and faith, are already in use in
- 7:11parts as part of regular services in some churches, such
- 7:16as a Sunday, Eucharist or even song.
- 7:20The package of proposals include possible arrangements for the
- 7:24use of the praise of love and faith in special or stand alone
- 7:28services alongside delegated Episcopal ministry and work to
- 7:32provide a timetable towards a decision on clergy.
- 7:36Clergy in same sex civil marriages.
- 7:42But The thing is, you've got to ask, do any of these people,
- 7:47does the Church of England, does the clergy does this this church
- 7:52parliament, do they do they actually look at the Bible and
- 7:55say, well, what does the Bible say?
- 7:56What's the word of God actually say about any of this?
- 8:02So for one, here Paul is teaching and he's talking in in
- 8:07first Timothy, chapter 4. And it's it's titled the great
- 8:11apostasy. And he says now the spirit is
- 8:14expressly says that in latter times in latter times.
- 8:19So when he says latter times, when they use the phrase latter
- 8:21times, talking about in the times towards the very end
- 8:25before the 2nd coming of Christ, in the very latter late times.
- 8:29OK, some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving
- 8:36spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy,
- 8:42having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, bidding
- 8:47to marry and commanding to abstain from food, foods other
- 8:51virgins say meat, which God created to be received, to be
- 8:55received with Thanksgiving by those who believe and know the
- 8:58truth. It's funny, whenever I heard
- 8:59that verse when I was younger, I always thought, you know, I had
- 9:03in my mind, I I imagined like more along the lines of weird
- 9:09occults or or just other really weird religions that really had
- 9:13nothing to do with the word of God.
- 9:16And yet we're seeing places which was supposedly were
- 9:21founded on the word of God on the Bible.
- 9:24And they're the ones who who were departed from the faith,
- 9:29giving heed to deceiving spirits.
- 9:31So again in in Timothy, this is in second Timothy chapter 4 Paul
- 9:36says I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus
- 9:39Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his
- 9:43appearing and his Kingdom. Preach the word be ready in
- 9:48season and out of season convince, rebuke, exhort with
- 9:51all long suffering and teaching. But the time will come when they
- 9:56will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own
- 10:03desires because they have itching ears.
- 10:07They will heap up for themselves teachers.
- 10:09Isn't this what we're seeing right now?
- 10:11They have itching ears. They, you can see what's
- 10:15happening in the Church of England.
- 10:17They're saying, well, this is the way modern society is now.
- 10:20We all have to accept the LGBT rainbow ABC community.
- 10:24So therefore we have to move, we'll move along in the times,
- 10:28you know, and we don't want to be just following the word of
- 10:31God because the word of God says, hey, this is sin.
- 10:35You know, sex outside of marriage is sin.
- 10:37That's adultery. You know, sleeping men, sleeping
- 10:40with men, homosexuality, women sleeping with women, That's
- 10:44wrong. And you know, we don't want to
- 10:48follow the word of God. We want to make up our own
- 10:50doctrine because we don't want to offend people.
- 10:53We we just want to be someone who, you know what they say,
- 10:57well, this is just love is love. And we want to show love.
- 11:00And all they talk about is, oh, Jesus is just love.
- 11:03He's just accepting, but they're not following the word of God.
- 11:09So, and that's what I'm saying the Church of England, OK,
- 11:11they've got this, they've going down this path where they're
- 11:14taking up Church of their title seem to be.
- 11:19Should we really be that surprised when they they're
- 11:22trying to well, you can be in the clergy and have a be in a
- 11:27same sex relationship and they want to be able to pray for
- 11:30people and, you know, have a working out how they can pray
- 11:34and how they can have acceptance because maybe God's changed his
- 11:39mind. Apparently.
- 11:40I'll go to another verse now talking about the word church.
- 11:45It's the church didn't make up the word church.
- 11:50The church isn't the one who said, well, we're going to call
- 11:53ourselves the church. It was, you know, all we're we,
- 11:57we've decided what we're going to do in Matthew.
- 12:01OK, well Jesus is talking to Peter and Jesus asking his
- 12:06disciples, you know, who do you say I am?
- 12:08And so the disciples say, oh, sorry, he said, who do men, who
- 12:11do men say that I, the Son of Man AM?
- 12:15So they said these disciples have said to him, some say John
- 12:18the Baptist, some say Elijah and others Jeremiah or one of the
- 12:23prophets. So he says to them, but who do
- 12:25you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said,
- 12:29you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
- 12:33Jesus answered and said to him, blessed are you Simon Bajona,
- 12:37for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my
- 12:41father who was in heaven, and I say to you that you are Peter
- 12:45and on this rock I will build my church.
- 12:50I think that was actually the first time that the word church
- 12:55is used. So it's Jesus who says on this
- 13:01rock, I will build my church. When he says that he's not
- 13:03talking yet. I, I don't think he's, he's not
- 13:05talking saying, oh, Peter, because Peter means rock, I'll
- 13:08build my church on you. He's building it because Peter
- 13:12had this revelation saying you are the Christ, the son of the
- 13:16living God. That is the revelation.
- 13:19He is the Christ. He is the living God.
- 13:22So on the church they're going to build, they're going to build
- 13:26the church on Christ. They've had that revelation.
- 13:30Jesus was the Christ is the Christ, the Son of the living
- 13:34God. And on Jesus, he's going to
- 13:37build a church. Jesus is the one that says that
- 13:40calls it the church. And he says, and the gates of
- 13:43Hades, the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
- 13:48And I'll give you the kingdoms, the Kingdom.
- 13:50Yeah. And I'll give you the keys of
- 13:52the Kingdom of heaven. And what's and whatever you bind
- 13:56on earth will be bound in heaven.
- 13:57And whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
- 14:02So you look, it's it's disappointing.
- 14:06It is sad that that they're steering away from using the
- 14:10word church in their title. I would say it's even more
- 14:15disappointing that you know that they're embracing the LGBT
- 14:21community instead of teaching what sin is, instead of teaching
- 14:26the word of God. I would say that if the Church
- 14:30of England, Anglican Church, if they wanted to, if they really
- 14:36cared about their fellow humans, if they really cared about
- 14:40humanity, if they really wanted to see souls saved, they would
- 14:45preach the word of God. They would preach the hard truth
- 14:52that is the word of God. They would preach that Jesus is
- 14:56the way, the truth and the life and no one will come to the
- 15:01Father, but through through him and that and they will teach
- 15:07that. You know, when when Jesus said
- 15:09to the woman who would be in court in adultery, in the very
- 15:12act, and then all her accusers go away.
- 15:15And then Jesus stands up and says, Hey, where's your
- 15:17accusers? And they and she says, oh, Yep,
- 15:19they're all gone. And what's Jesus end?
- 15:21End with the very last thing he says to her, go your way, go and
- 15:26sin no more. If the if the Church of England
- 15:31really cared about the people, they would preach, go and sin no
- 15:37more. They would be teaching what
- 15:40actual sin is, and they would not be trying to.
- 15:47They would not be trying to just be relevant to modern culture.
- 15:52So while it's disappointing that they may take church out of the
- 15:57title of Church of England, I don't think it's surprising
- 16:02we're seeing more and more churches going down this line.
- 16:04There they're rejecting the word of God to try and be more and
- 16:09more relevant. And yet the word of God, as we
- 16:12can see here in in first Timothy chapter 4, when he's saying,
- 16:17giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.
- 16:20It's even more relevant than it's ever been.
- 16:24And the scary thing about what they're doing is like what it
- 16:26says in first Peter chapter 4 in in verse 17, he writes for the
- 16:31time has come for judgement to begin at the House of God.
- 16:37And if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those
- 16:42who do not obey the gospel of God?
- 16:45Now if the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the
- 16:49ungodly and the sin appear? Judgement will begin in the
- 16:57House of God. Judgement will begin in the
- 16:59House of God. Is this what?
- 17:01Is this what is currently happening, being played out in
- 17:07the United Kingdom, in the Church of England?
- 17:10They for too long have been embracing ideology that is not,
- 17:19not based on biblical principles, not based on sound
- 17:24Bible teaching. And they're being judged.
- 17:28They are being judged. the United Kingdom is being judged.
- 17:32That's what I wonder and look, it's not that Australia is, is
- 17:39any better off or is any better, to be honest, in, in, in the way
- 17:44our churches run at the moment either.
- 17:46Some of their churches. This to me, I believe this is
- 17:54even more relevant given those scriptures and and even more
- 17:57scriptures, given those scriptures that are spoken about
- 17:59in Matthew and Timothy, first Timothy, second Timothy, first
- 18:03Peter. This just shows how relevant the
- 18:05Bible is today when it's teaching, when it's showing
- 18:08where mankind will be in the latter times.
- 18:15Anyway, that's just my opinion. It is sad what's happened, what
- 18:19these decisions that the Church of England made have made, but I
- 18:22don't think it's surprising and I think we're going to see more
- 18:25and more of this thing, this kind of behaviour being played
- 18:30out in the so called church. That's my opinion.
- 18:34I'm Jay Fallon. Thank you for listening to The
- 18:37Slippery Slope. They.
