- 0:17Speaker 1: All right, so this week's movie threat is a continuation
- 0:22Speaker 1: because the last time, well, it's two ago technically, but
- 0:26Speaker 1: one of the last ones I saw in the real
- 0:28Speaker 1: world was very sort of kid-oriented, and you guys were like,
- 0:31Speaker 1: you didn't buy that? What the hell's wrong with you?
- 0:33Speaker 1: So then yesterday, actually, I ran into this movie, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: I was like, first of all, I wasn't going to.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Then I saw the cast line up, and I'm like,
- 0:44Speaker 1: damn it, all right. Mostly for you guys. I got
- 0:48Speaker 1: Dear Dracula.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Oh.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Now looking at it, I'm like, this animation is going
- 0:52Speaker 1: to be terrible. So I almost didn't blow the very
- 0:55Speaker 1: minimal investment. Look at the, skip the second one, but
- 0:59Speaker 1: read off the cast list there for voice actors.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Let's see. We've got Ray Liotta.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Ariel Winter.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Done.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Emilio Estevez, Matthew Lillard.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Oh, Matthew Lillard.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Okay, just for the voice actors, I'm going to have
- 1:16Speaker 1: to watch this thing.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Well, now, okay, no, this little bit of propaganda at
- 1:21Speaker 3: the bottom of the front cover here has me intrigued.
- 1:26Speaker 3: What would happen if you wrote Dracula instead of Santa?
- 1:29Speaker 1: See, that was the first thing that got me. I
- 1:32Speaker 1: was like, all right, I like this premise. I might
- 1:35Speaker 1: want to watch this dumb kid's movie. And then I
- 1:37Speaker 1: saw the cast line up there and I was just like,
- 1:38Speaker 1: all right, fine. We're going to at least discuss it
- 1:43Speaker 1: on this and then we'll see if somebody wants to
- 1:46Speaker 1: put it on the list.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Oh, it sounds adorable.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I bet my nieces would like this. They like mildly
- 1:53Speaker 2: spooky things.
- 1:55Speaker 3: How did that just with that cast just fly under
- 1:57Speaker 3: the radar.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Well, again, cause I'm guessing the animation's probably really bad.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So I'm sure this had no other investment. It was like,
- 2:05Speaker 1: they just somehow suckered Ray Liotta into it. And I
- 2:09Speaker 1: don't know, Emilio woke up that day and wanted to
- 2:11Speaker 1: leave the house, I guess. He doesn't do a whole
- 2:13Speaker 1: lot now. He wants to direct and that's it. So
- 2:16Speaker 1: how they suckered him into doing voiceover. He's like, I
- 2:18Speaker 1: don't have to be on camera. I got a lot
- 2:20Speaker 1: of mighty duck stuff to make and I don't have
- 2:22Speaker 1: time for you. But Matthew Lillard, you know, he, He'll
- 2:26Speaker 1: just show up.
- 2:27Speaker 4: He's super cool.
- 2:28Speaker 1: That's what he does.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I think he's one of those guys where he's in
- 2:34Speaker 3: that stage where he makes movies that he thinks his
- 2:37Speaker 3: kids would like.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Probably. And I'm all for that.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I love him.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Again, that one time I saw him, he was just
- 2:45Speaker 1: He was okay with the normal people, but he connected
- 2:48Speaker 1: with those kids.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I can see that.
- 2:49Speaker 1: That one, like he was at his table. I think
- 2:52Speaker 1: I've told this before, but he was at his table signing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: He was in the middle of talking to somebody and
- 2:56Speaker 1: stopped and went, hold on. There's a kid walking by
- 2:59Speaker 1: dressed as Shaggy. He came out from behind his table
- 3:03Speaker 1: and stopped him and knelt down and talked to him
- 3:05Speaker 1: for like five minutes while the other person's still just
- 3:08Speaker 1: standing there. I was like, normally I'd be upset if
- 3:10Speaker 1: I were them, but dude, you just went because you
- 3:12Speaker 1: saw a Shaggy kid and you wanted to go talk
- 3:14Speaker 1: to him. I was like, that's so adorable.
- 3:16Speaker 4: That really is.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he was just so into it with the kids. Like,
- 3:21Speaker 1: he really liked the kids, loved him as Shaggy and
- 3:23Speaker 1: Scooby-Doo stuff.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Well, that's why I was going to ask if the
- 3:25Speaker 3: kid was at least familiar that Matthew Lillard had played
- 3:28Speaker 3: shaggy i would assume he was just like i'm not
- 3:31Speaker 3: supposed to talk to stranger danger get away he's like
- 3:36Speaker 3: all right you've seen scream then good for you.
- 3:41Speaker 1: But yeah so that that was a nice tie-in so
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's like just that cast alone i was like all
- 3:47Speaker 1: right or at least i'm going to have it now
- 3:49Speaker 1: whether or not we work it into an episode is
- 3:52Speaker 1: up to you Have you watched it? Oh, no. I
- 3:55Speaker 1: just got it yesterday. So it's just going to go
- 3:57Speaker 1: on the pile and sit there for all eternity. Like
- 4:00Speaker 1: all of these movies I keep buying that I don't
- 4:02Speaker 1: really have time to watch. But if we do watch
- 4:06Speaker 1: a movie, we then usually talk about it and say
- 4:09Speaker 1: amazing things like this.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And it is about a group of high school students,
- 4:17Speaker 3: none of whom is played by an actor who is
- 4:20Speaker 3: remotely under the age of 25.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So like every high school thing ever that was shot
- 4:27Speaker 1: i did that like i literally had to go read
- 4:31Speaker 1: up on it afterwards i was like but you how
- 4:34Speaker 1: did you because it's been 10 years like she's playing
- 4:38Speaker 1: the same little kid character movies are.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Supposed to distract you.
- 4:42Speaker 1: From reading this one forced me to i was just
- 4:46Speaker 1: like man But don't worry, that'll come back around and
- 4:50Speaker 1: pay off.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Oh, no way.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, in other words, we have an interesting subplot that's dark.
- 4:56Speaker 1: That could be a thing, but it's never explained at all.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You know, at one point, that sort of makes sense
- 5:05Speaker 3: because you're like.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And then there's something... That has kind of attached itself
- 5:12Speaker 2: to him in the house.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Something.
- 5:14Speaker 4: So scary. There's no tigers. There's goats.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Goats.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But literally by the end, Pierce and I both were
- 5:22Speaker 2: on separate corners of the couch with our knees like
- 5:25Speaker 2: tucked up. like covering our eyes by the last scene
- 5:29Speaker 2: and so neither of us saw the end of it
- 5:32Speaker 2: but we were too afraid to rewind it like a
- 5:34Speaker 2: minute and watch it so i had to look up
- 5:37Speaker 2: the plot summary on wikipedia to see what actually happened.
- 5:41Speaker 3: What was this calling in the.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I couldn't i couldn't it's.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Too scary you think it's like the ring and it's
- 5:48Speaker 1: gonna steal your soul if you see it.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I was like i'm not gonna be able to sleep.
- 5:52Speaker 1: On an old-timey viagra.
- 5:55Speaker 2: We were not it kind of felt like it like
- 5:58Speaker 2: it felt like you shouldn't be watching this.
- 6:03Speaker 1: What goes on like where's the convention part of this
- 6:07Speaker 1: i see the hotel part i see people and they're
- 6:10Speaker 1: supposed to go sign autographs but other than that like
- 6:12Speaker 1: all i see are fireworks and a rave so i'm
- 6:14Speaker 1: like what is going on in this convention I also
- 6:19Speaker 1: feel like you're overwhelmed at this convention because you're not
- 6:22Speaker 1: a 12-year-old child who gets to run free in a hotel.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Because the whole place.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Is just swarming with children.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It's like a pack of wild dogs made up by
- 6:31Speaker 3: nine-year-old little girls.
- 6:32Speaker 1: There's like the one kid that comes up for a
- 6:35Speaker 1: selfie has their mom with her. But other than that...
- 6:38Speaker 1: I don't think we ever see a parent. They're all
- 6:40Speaker 1: just running loose. I'm like, what is this convention?
- 6:43Speaker 2: And it's like a multi-day thing. So it's like, who
- 6:46Speaker 2: made your hotel room reservation?
- 6:47Speaker 1: The kids are just staying by themselves in a room somewhere.
- 6:50Speaker 1: It's like slumber party. No, wait, that's her again. And
- 6:55Speaker 1: this is a real sequel slash now prequel. Yeah, I
- 7:00Speaker 1: was so confused. And I still a little bit am.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I do question that they might have used some sort
- 7:06Speaker 1: of witchcraft.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Was it supposed to be funny?
- 7:11Speaker 3: I don't know. It says a lot.
- 7:15Speaker 1: When you can't tell if it's supposed to be a comedy,
- 7:17Speaker 1: it says maybe the most about a movie.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I mean, there were funny moments because there's.
- 7:24Speaker 4: But ultimately, that doesn't even like.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Factor in?
- 7:28Speaker 2: Matter at all.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And that's where I will continue to complain.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Like, I'm just like, why?
- 7:36Speaker 3: And the.
- 7:36Speaker 2: The heavy handedness of the phone. I'm like, we get it.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But they all do that. Our last movie did the
- 7:45Speaker 1: exact same thing.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I thought that was bad with the one scene at
- 7:48Speaker 2: the end. This was like every goddamn scene. They're like,
- 7:51Speaker 2: phones are bad. I'm like, I get it, Grandpa.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Good God. But like, let's move on.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And there's even a shot near the end of the
- 8:01Speaker 3: movie where you see a flash of him standing behind Bobby.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Almost like he's controlling Bobby, but some body or thing
- 8:09Speaker 3: had to kill him. And he's already talking to Bobby.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And then there's blood coming out of the computer.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Of the everything.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Which makes no sense.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Because in the 80s, there was an actual crime scene.
- 8:27Speaker 2: There was actual evidence of the people who got killed.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It wasn't like the room just went back to normal
- 8:32Speaker 2: and they like went off into some ether.
- 8:34Speaker 4: So then why would they?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Wait, you're saying the things that I wrote over here
- 8:38Speaker 1: in the script have to match up with the things
- 8:40Speaker 1: over here in the script? I don't think so.
- 8:45Speaker 3: A lot of the movies I've seen on there, it
- 8:46Speaker 3: seems like every 10 or 15 minutes or so, which
- 8:49Speaker 3: isn't terrible. There'll be an ad. This one, the ads
- 8:53Speaker 3: were few and far between, and I was praying.
- 8:56Speaker 2: For ads to come up.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Even advertisers didn't want to touch this movie.
- 9:00Speaker 4: They were like, we don't want to be associated with this.
- 9:03Speaker 1: You don't need to know how to plot. It's not
- 9:06Speaker 1: bad CG either. It's mostly practical stuff, which is phenomenal.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's mostly just planning things out and knowing how to
- 9:17Speaker 1: do things. I was just like, that makes this even
- 9:20Speaker 1: more impressive. I was like, this is Such a fun
- 9:23Speaker 1: movie anyway, but now I'm just like overwhelmed by how
- 9:28Speaker 1: amazing you guys are for making this happen.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Why wouldn't you just go stay at the Doubletree?
- 9:35Speaker 1: He even recommended it.
- 9:37Speaker 4: I know.
- 9:38Speaker 2: And everybody is acting so weird and scared of your
- 9:41Speaker 2: room and you're just like, this is fine.
- 9:43Speaker 4: And then poor Warren. Wants to help.
- 9:47Speaker 3: See, if I ever check into a hotel and that
- 9:50Speaker 3: experience happens where they're like, well, we have this other
- 9:52Speaker 3: room and the other guys are like.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I don't know anything about anything but i know horror
- 10:00Speaker 3: movies so is there a ghost and is it a
- 10:02Speaker 3: little boy.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Ghost plus she said she doesn't unpack her clothes like
- 10:09Speaker 2: at the beginning she was like i'm not gonna hang
- 10:11Speaker 2: anything up in here so like well then stay out
- 10:13Speaker 2: of the closet.
- 10:14Speaker 3: I mean, that is a pretty big closet, so if
- 10:16Speaker 3: you don't put your stuff in there, you could still
- 10:18Speaker 3: go in there and make make-believe, which is what I
- 10:21Speaker 3: would do.
- 10:23Speaker 1: While we're in the closet, who left me this bunny balloon,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and why are there eight pairs of shoes on the floor?
- 10:29Speaker 3: Actually, I'd be like, thank you for the bunny balloon.
- 10:32Speaker 4: That's too fast.
- 10:33Speaker 3: That wouldn't even scare me.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'd just be like, that's cool. I like bunny balloons, sure.
- 10:39Speaker 3: The maid comes in, and the first thing you see
- 10:41Speaker 3: her do is stripped the bed of the linens, which
- 10:45Speaker 3: 30 seconds they showed us that the linens were already
- 10:47Speaker 3: stripped off the bed and somebody had placed a chair
- 10:50Speaker 3: on top of it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Well, that's the least of your worries.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Start going around and decluttering first. Let's put everything back,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and then we worry about the sheets. Why would you
- 11:00Speaker 2: do that first?
- 11:01Speaker 3: That room, I mean, yeah, it was a mess, but
- 11:04Speaker 3: it was more of a like, well, this just needs
- 11:05Speaker 3: to go in this drawer, and we put this back
- 11:07Speaker 3: on that shelf.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Did you see the chair was on the mattress? I mean,
- 11:11Speaker 1: that room was shot. We got to go to a
- 11:13Speaker 1: whole nother hotel now.
- 11:14Speaker 4: The lampshades are upside down. Yeah, I mean, because they're evil.
- 11:16Speaker 1: They bothered to screw them back on upside down. That's evil.
- 11:21Speaker 3: I think I'm doing those two things next time I
- 11:23Speaker 3: stay in a hotel.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And be like, it was ghosts? I mean, I can't
- 11:28Speaker 1: do that.
- 11:30Speaker 4: 1980s computer ghosts.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It's not me. I'm not a ghost. Ghosts.
- 11:37Speaker 3: But what a strange way to fit into the plot of, oh,
- 11:41Speaker 3: here's how I need to let my girlfriend know that
- 11:43Speaker 3: there's ghosts. I'm going to ask her if it's okay
- 11:48Speaker 3: if I film us having sex. She's going to say no,
- 11:52Speaker 3: which is a fair response. Even if she'd said, yes,
- 11:56Speaker 3: that's okay too, I guess. But she clearly says, I
- 11:59Speaker 3: don't want to do this. He does it anyway. And
- 12:03Speaker 3: he's watching the footage alone and crying about it.
- 12:07Speaker 1: That's how that goes, right? That's how you use it afterwards.
- 12:11Speaker 3: How long after the act is finished? finished that he's
- 12:15Speaker 3: sitting there watching the video of them just sleeping. Which
- 12:19Speaker 3: is a whole other sort of creepy.
- 12:21Speaker 4: That's true.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It's got so many bits and pieces of like, that
- 12:26Speaker 1: could have been a story, but you got busy doing like,
- 12:30Speaker 1: is it a 8-bit demon that follows you through years
- 12:33Speaker 1: and years of technology? Is it ghosts? Is it a
- 12:36Speaker 1: murdered kid in a hotel room? Is it a closet
- 12:38Speaker 1: that eats children? Give me something. There's a lot of
- 12:42Speaker 1: options here. Take any of those. But no, it's just
- 12:45Speaker 1: pieces of all that and nothing is ever followed through
- 12:48Speaker 1: on and no focus whatsoever.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I think of all those ideas you just listed out.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Closet that eats children.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I'm telling you.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I like the idea of sitting around talking about movies
- 13:00Speaker 3: that none of us have seen. What could this be?
- 13:04Speaker 1: I mean, that's what the threats are for. This is
- 13:06Speaker 1: a threat. We could be made to watch something terrible,
- 13:09Speaker 1: but this time I feel like we'd all be okay
- 13:12Speaker 1: if we got to sit down and watch some Dear Dracula.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I feel like it, yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 1: We could be wrong. Again, some of those kids' stuff
- 13:20Speaker 1: are pretty bad, but I'm hoping with the voice talent alone,
- 13:24Speaker 1: this is going to be, you know, a few rungs
- 13:26Speaker 1: up on the ladder, so... Maybe.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Maybe it'll end up on the list.
- 13:29Speaker 1: You guys join the Meltdown Horror Club and let us
- 13:33Speaker 1: know if that's what you want us to watch.
