- 1:01Speaker 6: If there's anything more important than my ego on this ship,
- 1:03Speaker 6: I want to cut and shut right now.
- 1:14Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:16Speaker 7: I'm Phillip.
- 1:17Speaker 8: I'm David.
- 1:18Speaker 4: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:21Speaker 4: El Polo Studios.
- 1:23Speaker 8: Courtesy of Phillip. So thank you for having us. You're
- 1:25Speaker 8: very welcome.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Back for another, I was going to say installment in
- 1:31Speaker 4: the Super Series. That's one of my questions I'm going
- 1:33Speaker 4: to go later. Does this count as superheroes? It's very sci-fi.
- 1:39Speaker 4: It's definitely comic.
- 1:40Speaker 8: It's canon to the whole Marvel universe.
- 1:42Speaker 9: It's Marvel. If you look up their lineup, they do
- 1:44Speaker 9: put Guardians. It does have that chapter. The first one
- 1:48Speaker 9: was what? Before Civil War?
- 1:52Speaker 4: It just feels so different. But at the same time,
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm like, well, hell, Superman's a superhero, and he's nothing
- 1:56Speaker 4: but a weird alien dude. So, like, I guess it
- 1:59Speaker 4: all falls into whatever you want to call it. It's
- 2:02Speaker 4: just geek stuff.
- 2:03Speaker 8: It's definitely, I don't know.
- 2:05Speaker 9: I mean, I'm, like, jumping the gun already, but the
- 2:07Speaker 9: first one definitely felt like it had things in the
- 2:10Speaker 9: bigger plot. Like, you know, Thanos is straight.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Up in it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Like, in it.
- 2:13Speaker 8: So, like, the first one, it made sense. Well, the
- 2:15Speaker 8: whole thing is about an Infinity Stone.
- 2:17Speaker 6: Right, right.
- 2:18Speaker 4: The entire plot is an Infinity Stone, so.
- 2:21Speaker 8: This one wasn't quite as that interconnected.
- 2:24Speaker 4: But i guess get back to i was gonna give
- 2:27Speaker 4: us a chance sometimes we ease our way into the
- 2:29Speaker 4: main marvel topic with side marvel do you want to
- 2:32Speaker 4: start bitching about iron fist.
- 2:35Speaker 9: If we talk about our i don't want to be
- 2:37Speaker 9: the troll like i'm just i'm tired of being the
- 2:39Speaker 9: guy that always like i'm not a purist but this
- 2:44Speaker 9: one almost made me appear. So I was like, man,
- 2:45Speaker 9: like nothing, nothing was on the mark with the comic.
- 2:49Speaker 9: And then, and it didn't land. Sometimes they make changes
- 2:51Speaker 9: and it lands.
- 2:51Speaker 8: I'm like, I get that.
- 2:52Speaker 9: Like Hawkeye would be the biggest one. I didn't give
- 2:54Speaker 9: an F about Hawkeye before, before the last 10 years.
- 2:57Speaker 9: And now I'm like, wow, okay. That's a take on Hawkeye.
- 2:59Speaker 9: I dig, um, man, not, not some that aren't nothing
- 3:04Speaker 9: about this. Aren't the, the casting didn't land for me
- 3:07Speaker 9: to action.
- 3:08Speaker 8: Didn't land for me.
- 3:09Speaker 9: The story made no sense to me because like, I,
- 3:14Speaker 9: I felt like, one, it was unrealistic to me in
- 3:15Speaker 9: a sense that, like, if a man that cannot be
- 3:19Speaker 9: identified was to show up somewhere, you'd be damn sure
- 3:23Speaker 9: someone's going to identify you. Like, if you went to
- 3:25Speaker 9: the police department, it's like.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I don't know who I am.
- 3:27Speaker 9: And they take your fingerprints and stuff, and they go,
- 3:29Speaker 9: wait a minute, we don't know who you are.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Tough luck, buddy.
- 3:31Speaker 9: They're not going to put you on the street. So
- 3:33Speaker 9: it was so weird that he had to work so hard.
- 3:36Speaker 9: gd hard to get people to just go oh you
- 3:40Speaker 9: are danny like and then it blew me away at
- 3:42Speaker 9: the moment they go okay you're danny here's your company
- 3:45Speaker 9: he wants nothing to do with the company and i
- 3:47Speaker 9: was like why are you back.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Then you weirdo this is my and i will have
- 3:54Speaker 4: it be said i am at about four episodes And
- 3:58Speaker 4: I just sort of went, I feel like I kind
- 4:01Speaker 4: of want to get back to be a dorky completist.
- 4:03Speaker 4: But at the same time, I'm just like, and this
- 4:05Speaker 4: was my issue. And I brought this up in general
- 4:08Speaker 4: on a recent episode. But very specifically, I mean it
- 4:11Speaker 4: for this one. And kind of the last one, I'm like,
- 4:15Speaker 4: Some things work really well in series form when you
- 4:17Speaker 4: have this 12 to 16 episode span of time. And
- 4:21Speaker 4: sometimes you don't have enough story and you feel them
- 4:23Speaker 4: just dragging their feet to pad it out.
- 4:26Speaker 8: Trust me, you should get through to 13 episodes then.
- 4:29Speaker 8: I think this one was 13.
- 4:29Speaker 4: I was like, why do we have to get bigger
- 4:32Speaker 4: and bigger and bigger when you have less and less
- 4:34Speaker 4: and less to say? I like those first three. And
- 4:37Speaker 4: then I really loved what was going on in Luke Cage.
- 4:40Speaker 4: But even that, the last half of it, I was
- 4:43Speaker 4: just like... Guys, really? I mean, it's like two episodes
- 4:46Speaker 4: of him being shot dragging around on the street. It
- 4:48Speaker 4: just drug on and on and on. And then we
- 4:50Speaker 4: brought in a new bad villain.
- 4:52Speaker 8: And I'm just like, we had.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It was so tight and well put together in that
- 4:55Speaker 4: first half. And then it's kind of like, oh, shit,
- 4:58Speaker 4: we got like seven more episodes to go.
- 4:59Speaker 8: What do we do now?
- 5:00Speaker 4: Like, they just.
- 5:02Speaker 8: It should be a tight 10. I do think it's
- 5:03Speaker 8: really weird.
- 5:04Speaker 9: They keep kind of pushing that more and more. And
- 5:06Speaker 9: it's like, if you don't have the story to tell,
- 5:08Speaker 9: please don't feel the need to fluff.
- 5:09Speaker 8: Like, I don't know.
- 5:10Speaker 9: I thought 13 was an unlucky number. Why do you
- 5:12Speaker 9: guys keep making all these season ones with 13 episodes?
- 5:15Speaker 4: And that's my issue with Iron Fist was like, I
- 5:19Speaker 4: was only three or four episodes in there. And I
- 5:21Speaker 4: was like, okay, we've done the same things like three
- 5:24Speaker 4: times now. We've gone through the same scenes of him
- 5:27Speaker 4: Dealing with.
- 5:28Speaker 8: The brother and sister. And like, you're not him.
- 5:30Speaker 4: He's dead.
- 5:30Speaker 8: I am too, him.
- 5:31Speaker 4: And like, 20 minutes later, we go through the same thing.
- 5:34Speaker 8: And like, have him thrown out. Have him arrested.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Try to kill him.
- 5:37Speaker 8: Like, whatever they did. It felt like regurgitated scripts.
- 5:39Speaker 9: I was just like, and how many business conferences did
- 5:42Speaker 9: we need to see? Because again, he doesn't give an
- 5:44Speaker 9: F about the company after he gets it. That's what
- 5:47Speaker 9: was so strange to me is when they.
- 5:48Speaker 8: Offered him like four. 40 million i was like you're.
- 5:51Speaker 9: Good yeah take it i mean you don't care about
- 5:53Speaker 9: the business you didn't turn around and drop a bunch
- 5:56Speaker 9: of money the next day like what what why couldn't
- 5:58Speaker 9: you just streamline your priorities and go i'm the weapon
- 6:01Speaker 9: i need to focus on i come so close to
- 6:04Speaker 9: saying the foot clans so many times i need to
- 6:06Speaker 9: focus on the hand whatever and i'm just like same
- 6:09Speaker 9: idea basically i was just so because like i said
- 6:12Speaker 9: for me it was so frustrating that it just seems
- 6:15Speaker 9: so another world that that he couldn't be identified and
- 6:19Speaker 9: no one seemed to care. And it was okay for
- 6:21Speaker 9: this dude to like have no identity and no one
- 6:23Speaker 9: think that's weird. Like I said, if someone existed today
- 6:26Speaker 9: with no identity, the government's going to find out who
- 6:29Speaker 9: you are and they're not going to let you walk
- 6:31Speaker 9: the street until they do. So it was just weird
- 6:32Speaker 9: to me that he couldn't just go to the police
- 6:34Speaker 9: and be like, I.
- 6:35Speaker 8: Am this person.
- 6:37Speaker 4: And that's it.
- 6:37Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 9: They would figure it out, or they would damn well
- 6:40Speaker 9: figure it out before they let you go. It wouldn't
- 6:43Speaker 9: have taken three episodes of trespassing and breaking into the
- 6:47Speaker 9: building of your old friends who apparently hate your guts.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Well, the guy's a dick anyway.
- 6:53Speaker 8: I mean, it was just bizarre.
- 6:56Speaker 9: And if you've read the comic, I found it harder
- 6:59Speaker 9: as someone who'd read the comic because there were so
- 7:01Speaker 9: many changes, but this time.
- 7:02Speaker 8: I didn't understand why.
- 7:04Speaker 9: This time I really didn't understand why. It was just,
- 7:08Speaker 9: I couldn't grasp it. And as it went on, it
- 7:10Speaker 9: felt like the show itself, it felt like, didn't know
- 7:12Speaker 9: what to do.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 8: You didn't finish it, trust me. Again.
- 7:15Speaker 4: There's kind of three more plots. I may eventually, but
- 7:17Speaker 4: I just don't care. And that was my takeaway. It
- 7:21Speaker 4: was just like, I feel like I should be engaged
- 7:23Speaker 4: with this story.
- 7:24Speaker 3: An ending.
- 7:25Speaker 9: The ending, like, I'm not going to spoil things, but
- 7:27Speaker 9: very unsatisfied. But not only, like, the last shot, but
- 7:30Speaker 9: the whole last episode. I was like, this is how you...
- 7:33Speaker 9: Quoteys wrapped this up. This is how we go forward
- 7:36Speaker 9: into Defenders?
- 7:36Speaker 8: That's what I was going to say. I was like,
- 7:38Speaker 8: what are your feelings going.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Because I saw the trailer already, and I'm like... I
- 7:41Speaker 4: like that he seems to be downplayed. Because in my head,
- 7:43Speaker 4: I was like, Danny kind of needs to be the
- 7:45Speaker 4: Robin in this pack.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah, basically.
- 7:47Speaker 8: Like, as in Batman Robin. Because you.
- 7:49Speaker 9: For me, again, for me, you didn't land at all
- 7:52Speaker 9: on your season. So I feel like he needs to
- 7:53Speaker 9: be the one looking at these guys like, how do
- 7:55Speaker 9: you do this?
- 7:56Speaker 8: Like, what's going on?
- 7:56Speaker 9: Because he was, it was so badly juxtaposed to me
- 8:01Speaker 9: to have him be so incredibly naive. But then you
- 8:05Speaker 9: would have these moments where he would like slow down
- 8:09Speaker 9: and get into like an Asian pose and drop some like,
- 8:12Speaker 9: some wisdom on somebody in like two, three sentences, like
- 8:16Speaker 9: it was supposed to be profound. And I'm like, you
- 8:18Speaker 9: look like the biggest jackass in the world right now. Like,
- 8:22Speaker 9: please stop having your splinter moments in the middle of
- 8:26Speaker 9: being like Wiccan at Bernie's. Like you were, I could
- 8:30Speaker 9: not wrap my head around him. I was like, I
- 8:32Speaker 9: don't understand why. I didn't, I didn't want him to
- 8:36Speaker 9: be Asian. I was one of those people that needed
- 8:37Speaker 9: him to not be the rich white kid.
- 8:40Speaker 8: But there was just so.
- 8:41Speaker 9: Many points where I was just like, Why did you
- 8:43Speaker 9: cast him, though? He looks nothing like him. Like, any
- 8:46Speaker 9: iteration I've seen of Danny, I've never seen him scrub. Well,
- 8:49Speaker 9: that was my other thing. So you show him as
- 8:51Speaker 9: a kid with long, wavy hair, but then the grown-up
- 8:54Speaker 9: him has, like, tight, curly hair and this bearded frown.
- 8:57Speaker 9: It's like, you don't even look like that kid, though.
- 9:00Speaker 9: I thought maybe there'd be something about him as an actor.
- 9:03Speaker 9: But he, like, man, they did a fantastic four. They
- 9:06Speaker 9: were like throwing each other under the bus before the
- 9:08Speaker 9: movie dropped. And he was just like, I had 45
- 9:11Speaker 9: seconds to practice these fights before every scene. And I
- 9:14Speaker 9: was like, that sucks, man. But that's still your face
- 9:18Speaker 9: doing it. So I still got to put on you, man.
- 9:20Speaker 9: You did not sell it at all. I did not
- 9:23Speaker 9: feel martial arts from you. And then, man, I'm going to,
- 9:27Speaker 9: I need to stop. I'm going to break because I
- 9:28Speaker 9: can keep going.
- 9:29Speaker 4: He was gonna break up especially comparing it to like
- 9:32Speaker 4: daredevil i mean that i don't know that that guy's
- 9:35Speaker 4: trained in martial arts but those scenes are badass like
- 9:38Speaker 4: when when you go to your you know him kicking
- 9:41Speaker 4: people's ass and like a room full of people's ass
- 9:43Speaker 4: like you buy it like it works so yeah it's
- 9:46Speaker 4: weird well that and that was gonna be one of
- 9:48Speaker 4: my main questions to you because i again i i
- 9:52Speaker 4: don't think I paid any attention to that comic.
- 9:54Speaker 8: Like, I knew of it by name.
- 9:56Speaker 9: I knew because of Luke. Like I said, he's kind
- 9:57Speaker 9: of a Robin to me. Like, you like Luke, and
- 9:59Speaker 9: then you like... Danny because.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Because he hangs out with Luke you know so yeah
- 10:03Speaker 4: that's my thing how I mean is he in the
- 10:05Speaker 4: original comic is he supposed to be Asian.
- 10:08Speaker 8: No, no, he is a white kid.
- 10:09Speaker 4: To me, that's the whole plot, is that he's not Asian.
- 10:11Speaker 9: The only reason I brought that up is there was,
- 10:12Speaker 9: you know, well, with the Ghost in the Shell stuff.
- 10:14Speaker 9: And then with this kicking into gear, there were people
- 10:16Speaker 9: that were like, let's make him Asian, please. Just because
- 10:19Speaker 9: they thought his origin was weird. Like, come on, why
- 10:21Speaker 9: does some rich white kid go to Asia? And he
- 10:24Speaker 9: comes back the strongest, quote, he's Asian martial arts fighter
- 10:27Speaker 9: of all time.
- 10:27Speaker 4: That's what always happens in every story. I don't have
- 10:31Speaker 4: a problem with his appearance. It's just....
- 10:34Speaker 9: You just have to be convincing that you can fight. And, like,
- 10:37Speaker 9: he literally loses almost every fight he's in.
- 10:41Speaker 8: Like, I'm not joking.
- 10:42Speaker 9: Like, even there's a point where there's a big fight
- 10:44Speaker 9: in the middle. Like, you're going to have this fight.
- 10:46Speaker 8: And it's like, it happens. And you're like, wow, you're...
- 10:50Speaker 8: You're a defender? You're not very impressive.
- 10:53Speaker 9: There was so many times where I was like, he's
- 10:55Speaker 9: not bringing it home. He's not doing the hero thing,
- 10:58Speaker 9: so I don't understand why I'm supposed to consider him
- 11:00Speaker 9: a hero.
- 11:01Speaker 4: That's a fine line, because then you almost get the other,
- 11:03Speaker 4: like with Luke Cage, I'm like... he's damn near indestructible.
- 11:07Speaker 4: So then it gets into Superman of like, well, then
- 11:09Speaker 4: why am I watching? Like if he can beat everyone,
- 11:11Speaker 4: then what's the point? Like there's no challenge for it.
- 11:13Speaker 4: So they found good ways in the last several series
- 11:17Speaker 4: to find weaknesses in him and find a way to
- 11:19Speaker 4: make him super vulnerable.
- 11:20Speaker 9: I think that would be smart going forward is the
- 11:22Speaker 9: idea that government agencies at least, you know, are taking
- 11:26Speaker 9: their own precautions against superheroes and they are creating ammunition
- 11:29Speaker 9: that will work on these guys. Like that'll create a
- 11:31Speaker 9: good dynamic. for later if they want to utilize that.
- 11:33Speaker 9: I think it'd be smart. Give a way for indestructible
- 11:36Speaker 9: people to get hurt. Yeah, it is the Superman thing
- 11:39Speaker 9: where you go, it's just a matter of time.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yeah, why do I care?
- 11:42Speaker 4: So at least, because even Daredevil, he has extra.
- 11:46Speaker 8: He got mixed up. He's definitely not indestructible. He got
- 11:49Speaker 8: messed up all the time.
- 11:50Speaker 4: But yeah, he always seems, and again, he seems very human,
- 11:54Speaker 4: because by that second season, I'm just like, this guy's
- 11:57Speaker 4: kind of a dick. Like, really, like, he's pretty likable
- 12:01Speaker 4: in that first one. By then, he keeps screwing over
- 12:03Speaker 4: his friends. Like, he kind of does in the first one,
- 12:05Speaker 4: but it's for a reason. He's kind of doing that
- 12:07Speaker 4: Bruce Wayne thing now. Yeah, so it's one of those, like,
- 12:10Speaker 4: at least he's definitely human. Like, you feel like he
- 12:13Speaker 4: is a guy trying to figure shit out. He just
- 12:15Speaker 4: also happens to have powers, but like, And Jessica is
- 12:18Speaker 4: certainly flawed. So it's like, as we get in, it's
- 12:20Speaker 4: like the rest of these.
- 12:21Speaker 8: Guys are pretty cool. So coming in on this.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Fourth one, it's, it's, it's a weird move to make.
- 12:26Speaker 4: So I, I, again, because I want to watch the
- 12:29Speaker 4: next season and I want to see, have all my connections,
- 12:32Speaker 4: I'll probably finish it.
- 12:33Speaker 8: So that was my thing. I was like, I have
- 12:35Speaker 8: to get through it.
- 12:35Speaker 9: Cause it, this leads to defenders and I know I'm
- 12:38Speaker 9: watching defenders obviously.
- 12:39Speaker 8: So I was like, let's get this in.
- 12:40Speaker 9: I can honestly say though that like, I'm glad I
- 12:44Speaker 9: watched the season because there were other things in it that,
- 12:47Speaker 9: were so good. It kind of got me excited. Like the,
- 12:51Speaker 9: I forget her name, but the little Asian woman that
- 12:53Speaker 9: runs the hand.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 8: She kills it. Wait till, no, you should finish it.
- 12:57Speaker 9: Cause second half, second half, that girl gets her worm
- 13:00Speaker 9: tongue on and she is doing some bad-ass mind manipulation. She,
- 13:05Speaker 9: that little woman is killing it. Like, and she was
- 13:08Speaker 9: great in Daredevil season. Don't get me wrong, but this
- 13:11Speaker 9: is the one that shows you like, she's way smarter
- 13:13Speaker 9: than she lets on. She, she, She dropped some things
- 13:17Speaker 9: that would kind of blow your mind a little. Like, plot-wise,
- 13:19Speaker 9: you're like, oh, my God. So, I mean, there are
- 13:21Speaker 9: reasons to finish it, but it's that kind of thing where, like,
- 13:25Speaker 9: I watched it and it just made me more anxious
- 13:27Speaker 9: for Defenders than it was being excited for what I
- 13:30Speaker 9: was actually watching, if that makes sense, which is.
- 13:33Speaker 8: Kind of weird.
- 13:33Speaker 4: She was interesting anyway because, especially in those first one
- 13:37Speaker 4: or two there, like, she came out of, like, this
- 13:39Speaker 4: whole group of bad guys and And that would have
- 13:42Speaker 4: never been the way you expected it to go.
- 13:43Speaker 8: You're like, this guy, he's going to be the main
- 13:45Speaker 8: bad guy. He's pretty badass.
- 13:46Speaker 4: And he was.
- 13:47Speaker 8: And then, like, nope, nope, nope.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Like, you keep going through going, oh, I guess that... Oh, damn,
- 13:51Speaker 4: where'd she come from? I highly recommend.
- 13:53Speaker 8: Like, all of a sudden, she's awesome.
- 13:54Speaker 11: Like, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 8: You finish it then.
- 13:55Speaker 9: Because, like, the scenes in particular I'm talking about did
- 13:58Speaker 9: happen in the later half. She is going to have
- 14:01Speaker 9: a lot of talking parts later. And it was really,
- 14:06Speaker 9: I thought, really well done.
- 14:07Speaker 8: It was like the.
- 14:09Speaker 9: That's what was weird to me about watching Iron Fist
- 14:11Speaker 9: is that I never liked Iron Fist. I liked the
- 14:13Speaker 9: supporting cast to varying degrees, but I really at no
- 14:16Speaker 9: point did like him. Even when the season was over,
- 14:19Speaker 9: I was still like, I don't feel like you grew.
- 14:21Speaker 9: Because the kid in the beginning, I'm like, all right,
- 14:23Speaker 9: maybe he's supposed to be dumb, dopey, surfer boy thing,
- 14:25Speaker 9: and we're going to get there. But I mean, not
- 14:29Speaker 9: to be an ass, I don't feel like this is
- 14:30Speaker 9: a spoiler, but we didn't get the costume.
- 14:33Speaker 8: You know what I mean?
- 14:33Speaker 9: There was no point did he tie something yellow on
- 14:36Speaker 9: his head. At no point did he... I mean, I
- 14:39Speaker 9: don't want the green and yellow. But, I mean, they
- 14:41Speaker 9: didn't even tease in outfit of any kind. He's just
- 14:44Speaker 9: a dude in a business suit with a tattoo underneath.
- 14:47Speaker 8: And I'm like, this is so... not landing anywhere for me.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I mean, the joke for like Luke Cage, when he
- 14:54Speaker 4: put the metal thing, I'm like, yanks it off.
- 14:58Speaker 8: I'm like, Oh, I'm cool with the hoodie, the yellow shirt.
- 15:01Speaker 9: Like that stands out enough is equities as an outfit.
- 15:04Speaker 9: But in this, I mean, there's literally none at no point.
- 15:06Speaker 9: Does he have like, I need to fight. I'm putting
- 15:08Speaker 9: this on. If he's wearing a three piece suit, he's
- 15:11Speaker 9: fighting in a three piece suit. If he's got sweats
- 15:13Speaker 9: and a t-shirt, he's.
- 15:13Speaker 8: Fighting in that.
- 15:14Speaker 9: And I was like, I mean, I mean, not even
- 15:18Speaker 9: like a gi from home, something, you know, something that
- 15:21Speaker 9: would have been like, this is me as the.
- 15:22Speaker 8: Living weapon, but it never happened.
- 15:25Speaker 9: No, it just felt like, in a weird way, it
- 15:28Speaker 9: felt like Ken Masters from Street Fighter. Like, it was like,
- 15:31Speaker 9: why does this white California boy, like, do you invite
- 15:33Speaker 9: all these greatest fighters all over the world?
- 15:35Speaker 4: He doesn't love Street Fighter.
- 15:36Speaker 8: Iron Fist, then, I guess.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Well, that was I mean, that's not to jump on
- 15:39Speaker 4: that bandwagon because I didn't know. Like, again, I sort
- 15:42Speaker 4: of tuned out and then I got sidetracked doing other
- 15:44Speaker 4: stuff for the show. And like, I really hadn't paid
- 15:46Speaker 4: much attention to anyone else's response. And then before I
- 15:49Speaker 4: came here, I was trying to remember some of the
- 15:51Speaker 4: specifics and I looked it up and it was just like.
- 15:53Speaker 4: google page of page of people bitching that was just
- 15:57Speaker 4: like and just like actual write-ups like actual legit reviewers
- 16:00Speaker 4: going this is the worst thing they've done right like
- 16:03Speaker 4: wow i didn't i i wasn't trying to start that
- 16:05Speaker 4: i just went if we want to talk about it
- 16:07Speaker 4: as a marvel intro kind of thing we can so
- 16:11Speaker 4: yeah that that's not what i intended and yet what's
- 16:13Speaker 4: where we fell as well so or at least you
- 16:16Speaker 4: wonder if it was a budget thing like Or tiny. Like,
- 16:19Speaker 4: did they really have to cram it in?
- 16:21Speaker 8: Because everything... Like, it's domino.
- 16:23Speaker 4: So it's like, we already had Luke Cage. We have
- 16:26Speaker 4: Defenders coming out. We gotta get this thing knocked out. So, like,
- 16:29Speaker 4: did they devote not near as much time to the screenwriting?
- 16:32Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 16:34Speaker 9: I think it makes me wonder if it's budget. Because
- 16:36Speaker 9: it seems like the quality on the other three seasons...
- 16:40Speaker 9: And I don't mean quality just like what you see,
- 16:42Speaker 9: like how it's filmed.
- 16:43Speaker 8: But, like, the heart.
- 16:44Speaker 4: The tension.
- 16:45Speaker 8: The story. Like, the actual, like, the script.
- 16:48Speaker 9: In the story itself, before it felt like these characters
- 16:51Speaker 9: were being protected, or at least being invested in. They
- 16:54Speaker 9: were being grown to be something. There was an end vision.
- 16:57Speaker 9: I guess that would be the point, that there was
- 16:59Speaker 9: an end vision. This season, or this Iron Fist, felt
- 17:02Speaker 9: like they didn't know who he was. So I sure
- 17:05Speaker 9: as hell never did. Because if you finish all 13,
- 17:07Speaker 9: there is like three plots in this thing. He doesn't
- 17:11Speaker 9: really wrap any of them up, and he doesn't even become...
- 17:16Speaker 9: like an outfitted guy about it. And like I said,
- 17:18Speaker 9: the last episode was very bizarre.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Cause I was like.
- 17:22Speaker 9: That, that, that's how we end. Like, that's how we
- 17:24Speaker 9: lead into defenders with that. It was so, I was
- 17:27Speaker 9: just scratching my head throughout the whole season. Like every
- 17:30Speaker 9: episode would be like, what, what, where's this, where's this going?
- 17:33Speaker 4: Like what? And just how many times I liked other
- 17:36Speaker 4: people on the screen morning, the people he fought, I
- 17:38Speaker 4: usually liked more.
- 17:40Speaker 9: Cause I was like, there's a drunk dude, a drunken
- 17:43Speaker 9: style dude later.
- 17:44Speaker 8: That's awesome.
- 17:46Speaker 9: And the whole time you're watching, I don't know the
- 17:47Speaker 9: actor's name, Danny Rand's character fight him. I'm like, why
- 17:52Speaker 9: wasn't that dude Iron Fist? Like, there's so many times
- 17:55Speaker 9: I'm watching other people.
- 17:56Speaker 8: I'm like, they look. Can we veer off and start
- 17:57Speaker 8: watching this guy instead?
- 17:58Speaker 9: I would totally watch something about that drunk dude. Like,
- 18:01Speaker 9: the drunken style guy towards later episodes has a great, great,
- 18:05Speaker 9: great fight. And I was just like, he has to
- 18:10Speaker 9: at least be able to perform a certain level. of
- 18:13Speaker 9: martial arts for him to be believable. If not, it's
- 18:16Speaker 9: just going to feel like you know, any stunt guy
- 18:20Speaker 9: from average CSI TV show. And that's kind of what happened.
- 18:23Speaker 9: There was that, there's an infamous take. I don't know
- 18:26Speaker 9: if it was in the first three, but there's an
- 18:27Speaker 9: infamous take where he has a fight in the basement
- 18:30Speaker 9: and there is like 52 cuts in 30 seconds. People
- 18:34Speaker 9: were like, you can YouTube, like the number of tickers
- 18:36Speaker 9: in the bottom going up.
- 18:38Speaker 8: It's not a good fight.
- 18:39Speaker 9: I mean, they're like pushing over bookshelves and having this fight,
- 18:42Speaker 9: but it's literally 50 something clips. And it was funny
- 18:45Speaker 9: to me because when the episode.
- 18:46Speaker 8: Was happening, I was kind of thinking, I was like,
- 18:47Speaker 8: what is going on?
- 18:48Speaker 9: It was flickering so much. I was like, this is
- 18:51Speaker 9: a lot of drama for a fight in a basement.
- 18:53Speaker 9: And so when I saw it on YouTube later, I
- 18:54Speaker 9: was like, I can't imagine having a camera and saying
- 18:58Speaker 9: cut 51 times.
- 19:01Speaker 8: Before finally going, okay, I think we got it now.
- 19:03Speaker 8: I think we got it now.
- 19:04Speaker 4: It's not a feat for the impressive stunts. It's for
- 19:06Speaker 4: the editor after the fact that made that scene even
- 19:09Speaker 4: kind of come together.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It's jarring.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It's very, very jarring.
- 19:12Speaker 9: You watch that fight again and you're like, that was
- 19:15Speaker 9: so much work for half a minute and it was
- 19:19Speaker 9: so unorganized. It just made me wonder, are they really unorganized?
- 19:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 19:24Speaker 9: It just didn't feel like it had the same... The
- 19:27Speaker 9: same integrity behind it. And I feel like it all
- 19:29Speaker 9: showed through. And, like, when people were, like, throwing each
- 19:32Speaker 9: other on the bus before that Friday hit, I was like,
- 19:35Speaker 9: this probably doesn't bode well when everyone's already like, well,
- 19:39Speaker 9: I didn't get enough training. Well, I didn't get enough this.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Like, oh. Well, and I think that becomes the downfall
- 19:45Speaker 4: of anything that once you're that series heavy that, like–
- 19:50Speaker 4: when you don't bother to wrap anything up, when you
- 19:52Speaker 4: don't bother to finish a story arc or a character
- 19:54Speaker 4: arc or anything, when you're just like, eh, we'll do
- 19:57Speaker 4: that later. I think you start to get, because even
- 19:59Speaker 4: when there's just movie series, I'm just like, when you
- 20:03Speaker 4: get to those middle ones, you're like, eh, it's just
- 20:04Speaker 4: got to bridge them. So I'm like, why the hell
- 20:07Speaker 4: do I need this?
- 20:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Why do I need to watch The Two Towers? It
- 20:10Speaker 4: just drags out all the shit from the first one
- 20:12Speaker 4: to the last one. So it's like, how long? And
- 20:14Speaker 4: once again, how long can we drag our feet wandering
- 20:16Speaker 4: around for three hours? So it's the same thing with
- 20:19Speaker 4: these things now. Because they know there's so much coming
- 20:22Speaker 4: up that they're just like, eh, we don't have.
- 20:24Speaker 8: To make this a good tight story.
- 20:26Speaker 4: We can finish that later.
- 20:28Speaker 8: And I think that becomes problematic.
- 20:32Speaker 10: So I don't know.
- 20:33Speaker 12: I agree.
- 20:34Speaker 4: So... before again just just a quick thing i'm assuming
- 20:39Speaker 4: we all got the uh thor trailer yes do you
- 20:42Speaker 4: want to address that before we get going my my
- 20:44Speaker 4: first statement is how did we get this far into
- 20:47Speaker 4: thor this far into the marvel world and everything having
- 20:52Speaker 4: to do with thor and asgard and all of that
- 20:54Speaker 4: and we haven't played the immigrant song yet right i
- 20:58Speaker 4: was like oh my god this is perfect i was
- 21:00Speaker 4: like how did we not already play this song.
- 21:04Speaker 7: They are notorious about being tight-fisted on their licensing for
- 21:10Speaker 7: their music. So they're in the middle of their big
- 21:12Speaker 7: legal battle right now, so they probably needed some extra
- 21:15Speaker 7: cash over the whole.
- 21:17Speaker 4: This is the Zeppelin Boys?
- 21:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:20Speaker 8: Oh, that's right, right. Is that still going on, the
- 21:22Speaker 8: Stairway to Heaven lawsuit?
- 21:24Speaker 7: Well, it was settled, and now I don't know if
- 21:26Speaker 7: it's being appealed or what, but it's It's an ongoing thing.
- 21:30Speaker 8: And it's probably going to go on for.
- 21:31Speaker 7: At least another three or four years.
- 21:32Speaker 9: The last minute, it's been a long time since I
- 21:34Speaker 9: heard about it. The last I heard was like some
- 21:37Speaker 9: judge said, yeah, that's definitely that melody. But now they
- 21:40Speaker 9: had to prove that Jimmy Page or Plant heard it.
- 21:43Speaker 9: And so now they're trying to find ways to place
- 21:45Speaker 9: him in areas where that song could have possibly ever
- 21:49Speaker 9: been played because they needed to prove now that they
- 21:51Speaker 9: heard it. But that was even, even that was a couple, man,
- 21:54Speaker 9: I can't believe it's still going on.
- 21:55Speaker 7: The argument was that they, whatever the band, and that's
- 21:58Speaker 7: the other thing too, that Led Zeppelin, everyone remembers that band,
- 22:03Speaker 7: whatever the name of the band, I can't.
- 22:04Speaker 8: Even remember the name of the band. I've heard that,
- 22:06Speaker 8: but yeah, I don't remember. But I've heard the song,
- 22:08Speaker 8: it does sound like that.
- 22:10Speaker 7: It's very similar.
- 22:10Speaker 8: At least the slow part.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Does the fast also get close to it?
- 22:15Speaker 7: I don't even think I made it all the way
- 22:16Speaker 7: through the song.
- 22:16Speaker 4: The acoustic stuff's pretty damn close though, yeah, so. But again,
- 22:21Speaker 4: that's a perfect tie-in. That is one of, again, I've
- 22:24Speaker 4: gotten less and less impressed with Zeppelin as a whole. Again,
- 22:28Speaker 4: it was one of those when you're like 12, this
- 22:29Speaker 4: is the best band ever. Now I'm just like, eh, whatever,
- 22:32Speaker 4: we're fine. But that's still one of their more solid songs.
- 22:36Speaker 4: So it works perfectly with that trailer.
- 22:39Speaker 9: It seems to be a common trend in trailers to
- 22:41Speaker 9: take old songs and play them slow or to chop
- 22:44Speaker 9: them up.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I mean, that's been a thing, I feel like, even
- 22:47Speaker 4: the last 20 years.
- 22:48Speaker 8: But I feel like now it's really come.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Because now, like, almost every trailer is.
- 22:52Speaker 8: It's like the mold.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Taking an old song that we already know, and usually
- 22:57Speaker 4: a fast song, and then slowing it down and doing, like.
- 22:59Speaker 8: Or White Stripes. It seems like White Stripes. It's like
- 23:02Speaker 8: a third of them.
- 23:02Speaker 7: There was another trailer, which I can't remember what the
- 23:05Speaker 7: movie was or what song it was.
- 23:07Speaker 8: Probably something Zack Snyder.
- 23:10Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 23:10Speaker 4: He does that, too.
- 23:10Speaker 7: But it was the same trailer when I saw Guardians.
- 23:15Speaker 4: They took another slow... Maybe it was Wonder Woman.
- 23:17Speaker 7: They took another old song and slowed it way down.
- 23:20Speaker 9: Does Wonder Woman do... No, the Valerian one does the Beatles.
- 23:25Speaker 9: The City of Valeria, whatever. I got that trailer, too.
- 23:27Speaker 4: That's what was funny, is that all the trailers before
- 23:30Speaker 4: this movie were doing that mold.
- 23:32Speaker 9: Thor did, Wonder Woman did, Valeria did.
- 23:34Speaker 8: I can't remember the others.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Whatever that infection movie was that just came out a
- 23:39Speaker 4: month or two ago that looked great.
- 23:41Speaker 8: I don't even remember what the hell the name was.
- 23:43Speaker 8: Because it's one of those.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Just visually, it was like, well, I'm going to have
- 23:45Speaker 4: to see it, but I didn't run out to the theater.
- 23:47Speaker 4: But it was that same thing. I saw the trailer
- 23:49Speaker 4: and I'm like, that song's awesome.
- 23:50Speaker 8: Already, but it fit that trend.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Everything is like, let's take this song. Again, I think
- 23:56Speaker 4: it's because we... It's like a weird knee-jerk reaction thing
- 23:59Speaker 4: where I know that already.
- 24:01Speaker 8: I don't have to decide if I like it or not.
- 24:02Speaker 9: Which is why we have remakes and stuff, too.
- 24:05Speaker 4: We want brand recognition, even though it's a totally different
- 24:07Speaker 4: version of it. I did read.
- 24:11Speaker 9: This might not be related. It was clickbaity kind of stuff.
- 24:14Speaker 9: But I did read some article that insinuated that, contrary
- 24:17Speaker 9: to popular belief, millennials love older music. They were rating
- 24:23Speaker 9: iTunes and cell phones, their devices, and they found that
- 24:26Speaker 9: most of the music was actually older stuff.
- 24:28Speaker 4: It's kind of true. I mean, only because I, due
- 24:31Speaker 4: to the job I have done, there's a ton of
- 24:35Speaker 4: people that work there that are like high school kids.
- 24:37Speaker 4: And it's one of those, like we had like a,
- 24:39Speaker 4: you know, CD player and all these old CDs that
- 24:41Speaker 4: sat there and like their lineup, I'd come in from
- 24:44Speaker 4: the weekend when all they worked.
- 24:45Speaker 8: And I'm just like, really? You kids are listening to
- 24:48Speaker 8: Simon and Garfunkel?
- 24:49Speaker 4: I'm like, what the hell? Like it was all old.
- 24:52Speaker 9: Like almost like folk music is like really making this big,
- 24:56Speaker 9: it's like the Decembrists and that kind of stuff is
- 24:58Speaker 9: really kind of like, you know, broken all these kids
- 25:01Speaker 9: into like folk music. And it's, A lot more mainstream
- 25:03Speaker 9: than you might think.
- 25:04Speaker 7: Oddly enough, I think a lot of this goes back
- 25:07Speaker 7: to the rock band games.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:10Speaker 7: Because I remember when those came out, I was working
- 25:13Speaker 7: with kids who were 20, 21 and They knew all
- 25:17Speaker 7: these songs from the 60s and 70s, and I was like, how.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Do you guys know this? Oh, it's on Rock Band.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Guitar Hero. The whole Guitar Hero Beatles thing. Now every
- 25:27Speaker 4: kid knows every damn Beatles song forever, and I'm just like, okay,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I guess that's going to keep happening. I don't know.
- 25:33Speaker 9: I kind of wonder, again, not trying to jump gun
- 25:36Speaker 9: kind of stuff, but I kind of wonder if, pun intended.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I wonder if Guardians 3 will be 90s based.
- 25:46Speaker 8: With him getting the Zoom.
- 25:47Speaker 4: He got the little Z.
- 25:49Speaker 8: I should have made a Zoom joke recently.
- 25:50Speaker 9: It'll be him reacting to Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears.
- 25:55Speaker 9: It'll be new to him too.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Did we jump a little ahead? It seemed like, yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 4: it's a little.
- 25:59Speaker 8: It seemed like it'd been a couple years.
- 26:01Speaker 4: It's a little ahead.
- 26:02Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 26:02Speaker 9: Something about it just kind of made me wonder. Maybe
- 26:06Speaker 9: what it really is, I just hope they don't do
- 26:08Speaker 9: this a third time. I like, I appreciated the music,
- 26:12Speaker 9: but I don't know if I could do it for
- 26:13Speaker 9: a third movie. I don't know if I need 70s,
- 26:16Speaker 9: 80s rock for a third movie to permeate so strongly again. Well,
- 26:19Speaker 9: it seems like a third one they'd.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Be beating you over the head with.
- 26:21Speaker 9: Yeah, that's why I hope, like, make it new for everybody. Like,
- 26:24Speaker 9: even Star-Lord's character would be like, what is this? Like,
- 26:27Speaker 9: as he's listening to random 90s music.
- 26:29Speaker 8: And, I mean, it's 2017. Like, we can start acknowledging.
- 26:32Speaker 9: That 90s is going to be retro any second now.
- 26:35Speaker 9: Any second now.
- 26:35Speaker 8: It's going to happen. That's the thing.
- 26:37Speaker 4: On the oldies station here in town the other day,
- 26:40Speaker 4: it was on, and I was like, wait.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Nirvana?
- 26:43Speaker 2: Nirvana.
- 26:44Speaker 8: No, I mean, that too. No, it was B-52s. Oh,
- 26:49Speaker 8: it was Love Shack.
- 26:50Speaker 4: It was Love Shack. And I was just like, all right, wait,
- 26:53Speaker 4: what channel is this on? Holy shit, I guess it is.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Good Lord.
- 26:57Speaker 9: If it was their entire legacy, I get it. But
- 26:59Speaker 9: like that song was at least.
- 27:00Speaker 4: But Leon, Love Shack was the big poppy radio hit.
- 27:02Speaker 8: Right, I get it. Damn, I guess so.
- 27:07Speaker 4: That just, yeah, some of these things come hard. I'm
- 27:09Speaker 4: just like, no, no, no.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Well, the big I loved in the 90s tour is Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Coming to the State Fair this year.
- 27:16Speaker 2: God help us.
- 27:17Speaker 8: So anyway, Thor.
- 27:21Speaker 7: I appreciated the trailer, especially with the titles that they used,
- 27:25Speaker 7: which reminded me of the old CBS special.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah, like the spinning, brightly colored.
- 27:33Speaker 8: Tonight on Thor. Well, even like the Ragnarok. The word,
- 27:36Speaker 8: the actual word.
- 27:37Speaker 9: I don't know. Maybe they want to kind of rub
- 27:41Speaker 9: some Guardians on it. You know, because the Thor movies
- 27:44Speaker 9: don't do as well, but it seemed like it was
- 27:46Speaker 9: kind of burrowing that 80s vibe too, and it's, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 9: visual kind of.
- 27:51Speaker 5: That was.
- 27:51Speaker 4: My thing that I brought up as soon as I
- 27:54Speaker 4: saw it online, and then again when I saw it here,
- 27:56Speaker 4: I'm like, I....
- 27:58Speaker 8: Again, I think I was on a recent episode.
- 28:00Speaker 4: I said, I don't... They're my least favorite of the
- 28:02Speaker 4: Marvel movies anyway, because I just don't... I don't care
- 28:05Speaker 4: about Asgard. So the fact that almost everything... seems like
- 28:08Speaker 4: it's done different this time maybe purposefully to just be
- 28:12Speaker 4: like okay so much so that like okay they're taking
- 28:15Speaker 4: him somewhere else so we don't have to deal with
- 28:17Speaker 4: the normal asgar bullshit like uh we've got we've got
- 28:21Speaker 4: everything else kind of changed like even the signature haircut's
- 28:26Speaker 4: gone like right the like the the hammer's gone it
- 28:30Speaker 4: seems like from that the the fact that we're now
- 28:33Speaker 4: like taking everyone's favorite tie-in character to put in and
- 28:36Speaker 4: jamming him right in the middle of it like what
- 28:38Speaker 4: does everybody love?
- 28:38Speaker 8: Everybody loves Hulk.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Fuck it.
- 28:40Speaker 8: Throw it in Thor.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Who cares? So again, I think it has so many
- 28:44Speaker 4: elements that I like from other things and that are
- 28:47Speaker 4: different from the other Thor movies that it's kind of
- 28:49Speaker 4: the first one I'm like excited. Yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 8: I'm going to go see that.
- 28:52Speaker 7: It looked like a fun movie.
- 28:54Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Which I, I didn't see either of the other two
- 28:57Speaker 4: in the theater and I never really thought like, these
- 28:59Speaker 4: are fun. I'm just like, yeah, it's all right.
- 29:01Speaker 8: Like I didn't hate them.
- 29:02Speaker 4: I still like, Hemsworth like I think he's great at
- 29:05Speaker 4: doing that role I'd like him so much better when
- 29:07Speaker 4: he's in conjunction with the Avengers like yeah he just
- 29:10Speaker 4: works better to me when he's with that team versus just.
- 29:14Speaker 8: He's just too different it's just boring the other way.
- 29:17Speaker 9: I mean I'm not saying it couldn't have been done
- 29:19Speaker 9: but it's just it's too different I've been re-watching like
- 29:21Speaker 9: all the the Marvel movies just getting geared up for
- 29:23Speaker 9: the summer and so I just re-watched both Thor movies
- 29:25Speaker 9: recently it struck me First off, it struck me how
- 29:29Speaker 9: CGI it was. Because even at the time, I guess
- 29:31Speaker 9: at the time that was cutting edge CGI. So I
- 29:33Speaker 9: was like, oh, this looks great. But I guess now
- 29:34Speaker 9: it's dated.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Which one? Like the first one? The first one more so.
- 29:38Speaker 9: Because I didn't realize it was weird. watching it again.
- 29:40Speaker 9: I guess I was so just enamored that there was
- 29:43Speaker 9: a Thor movie that I wasn't as critical. And I
- 29:46Speaker 9: look now and I would say, I don't want to
- 29:48Speaker 9: make a percentage, a lot of the first Thor movie
- 29:50Speaker 9: in particular is landscape shots. And that didn't land until
- 29:55Speaker 9: I watched it again. I was like, there is a
- 29:56Speaker 9: lot of like, incredible view let's pan by it slowly
- 30:01Speaker 9: maybe there's walking humanoids somewhere in the bottom but it
- 30:05Speaker 9: it didn't hit me the first one watch it how
- 30:07Speaker 9: much of it was just these shots um not that
- 30:10Speaker 9: there you know there wasn't a story there and stuff
- 30:11Speaker 9: but i did watch it again i was just like
- 30:13Speaker 9: man you guys really didn't put as much time in
- 30:15Speaker 9: the story it was more about making it look really
- 30:17Speaker 9: incredible and i think guardians is kind of hitting that
- 30:20Speaker 9: mark better of having a story and still being entertaining
- 30:23Speaker 9: and I don't know, I just wish it wasn't so
- 30:26Speaker 9: Looney Tunes. It feels like space is this mad, silly,
- 30:28Speaker 9: crazy place to go, and now that Thor's kind of
- 30:32Speaker 9: running around in space, it's going to be a mad,
- 30:33Speaker 9: silly place for him, too.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I mean, we're kind of jumping ahead, because that's definitely
- 30:37Speaker 4: the vibe we get in our movie today. But, I
- 30:39Speaker 4: don't know, I think, again, I think it, maybe it's
- 30:43Speaker 4: taking it too far, because I feel like space was
- 30:45Speaker 4: a boring place to be before. So, like, I do like,
- 30:49Speaker 4: or just, like, didn't, like, the middle one, like, didn't,
- 30:53Speaker 4: I didn't care. Like, it was a bunch of battles
- 30:55Speaker 4: that I probably should have been invested in, but I'm
- 30:57Speaker 4: just like, I don't care about any of this. Like,
- 31:00Speaker 4: it was just a whole lot of CG fighting, and
- 31:02Speaker 4: then we were done. I'm like, ah, once again, I
- 31:04Speaker 4: guess we're gonna go move on. So, this one at
- 31:07Speaker 4: least seems like it is gonna be fun, but yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 4: maybe they're taking it too.
- 31:11Speaker 8: It just seems.
- 31:13Speaker 4: It almost seems like, again, because we're taking it into
- 31:16Speaker 4: gladiator territory, so it really does seem more like, if
- 31:19Speaker 4: you're going Looney Tunes, it's almost like Laugh-Olympics level of like,
- 31:22Speaker 4: come on, let's battle it out with our favorite guys.
- 31:25Speaker 4: It is a little, if we're going Looney Tunes, that's
- 31:28Speaker 4: a little more of the cartoon. It's Hanna-Barbera more than
- 31:31Speaker 4: Looney Tunes.
- 31:44Speaker 10: Look at me. I am old.
- 32:13Speaker 14: But I'm happy.
- 32:17Speaker 13: I was once like you are now And I know
- 32:22Speaker 13: that it's not easy To be calm When you found
- 32:28Speaker 13: something going on But take your.
- 32:33Speaker 15: Time, think a lot Why think of everything you've got
- 32:39Speaker 15: For you will still be here tomorrow But your dreams
- 32:45Speaker 15: may not.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It's intermission time. Time for refreshment. You're invited to visit
- 33:01Speaker 2: the refreshment stand, where you'll be greeted with fast, friendly service.
- 33:06Speaker 2: You'll find hot dogs, juicy hamburgers, and mouth-watering, delicious pizza.
- 33:12Speaker 2: There are refreshing hot and cold beverages, ice-cold cola, and
- 33:16Speaker 2: orange drink. Goes great with an order of crispy French fries.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Then there's a wide selection of your favorite candies and
- 33:24Speaker 2: other delicious snacks. And there's always a fresh batch of
- 33:27Speaker 2: hot buttered popcorn to go with the rest of the show.
- 33:31Speaker 2: So visit the refreshment stand now and add to your
- 33:34Speaker 2: enjoyment of the movie.
- 33:38Speaker 3: While the students tune in on The Generation Gap... There's
- 33:42Speaker 3: an electro-charged meeting of the minds. A high-speed computer accidentally
- 33:49Speaker 3: drains its brain into a not-so-bright campus clown. who becomes
- 33:54Speaker 3: a socket-shocked human computer. Now the tennis shoes are on
- 33:58Speaker 3: the computer and the laughs are on the establishment as
- 34:01Speaker 3: they try to cash in on his super brain. I
- 34:04Speaker 3: think I found a spot for you in my organization.
- 34:07Speaker 3: And that's when the computer wearing tennis shoes gives everyone
- 34:10Speaker 3: a hilarious run for their money and cops out on
- 34:13Speaker 3: the syndicate over network television.
- 34:18Speaker 11: What are we going to do?
- 34:19Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on?
- 34:21Speaker 11: Hey, get me out of here!
- 34:22Speaker 15: Dexter, are you all right?
- 34:24Speaker 3: This high-speed computer game is programmed for fun, geared for action,
- 34:29Speaker 3: and set to beat the establishment.
- 34:31Speaker 10: The computer wore tennis shoes and a smile upon his face.
- 34:45Speaker 8: So, you guys know we're broke, right?
- 34:47Speaker 2: We're always broke.
- 34:50Speaker 11: I know, and yet we're trying to put this show together.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Now how the hell can we keep the show rolling
- 35:17Speaker 4: if we're broke and we can't do this? Sell special
- 35:19Speaker 4: fiddle fowl.
- 35:22Speaker 10: Oh.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Or instead... Murder people? Are you just taking random money
- 35:28Speaker 4: out of their pockets?
- 35:29Speaker 10: Well, yeah.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Hopefully it
- 35:32Speaker 4: won't come to that. Especially if they're peeping.
- 35:34Speaker 8: Some people will get on board with this.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Get on board with what?
- 35:39Speaker 4: The new Movie Meltdown Patreon page. And what is this?
- 35:42Speaker 4: If you go there, you can sponsor the show itself.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Basically, you just join the club.
- 35:48Speaker 4: You join the Meltdown Club. You become a Melkateer. Do
- 35:50Speaker 4: you get a special decoder ring? We already sent those out,
- 35:53Speaker 4: but those people, nobody cares.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I didn't get a decoder ring.
- 35:56Speaker 4: You're not part of the club.
- 35:57Speaker 8: I'm never part of the club.
- 36:00Speaker 4: You're part of the secret circle, though.
- 36:01Speaker 5: It's okay.
- 36:03Speaker 4: But if you become a Melkateer, you can get special
- 36:06Speaker 4: episodes that only come to you. I think you should
- 36:09Speaker 4: do it right now.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Right now?
- 36:11Speaker 4: I'm just saying. It's maybe a couple of bucks. There's
- 36:14Speaker 4: other levels you can kick in and get fancier. Maybe
- 36:16Speaker 4: a couple bucks. You don't know. Fancier stuff. But really,
- 36:19Speaker 4: just a couple of bucks will keep things rolling. What
- 36:22Speaker 4: will get me a pony? That's a really high level.
- 36:27Speaker 4: I'll have to figure out exactly what. That's platinum membership
- 36:30Speaker 4: right there. It might be above platinum. We'll have to see.
- 36:33Speaker 5: What is above platinum?
- 36:36Speaker 4: Titanium.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Titanium.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Really?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Yeah. Maybe that's a step below.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 36:41Speaker 5: We'll have to see.
- 36:42Speaker 12: Aluminium level.
- 36:43Speaker 4: That's way below. Not if you say it fancy.
- 36:47Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 5: Unobtainium.
- 36:50Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Good luck with that. But for the rest of you,
- 36:54Speaker 4: go kick in a couple bucks. Keep the show rolling.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Go to patreon.com slash movie meltdown. And if you don't
- 37:01Speaker 4: know how to type all that in, go to the
- 37:02Speaker 4: movie meltdown.com page. And the link's right there. And you
- 37:05Speaker 4: can save this show. And help me get a pony.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Damn them, man. Save the meltdown.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Get Misty a pony.
- 37:13Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Priorities. Hi, I'm Leah Thompson.
- 37:38Speaker 10: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 37:40Speaker 5: My God.
- 37:42Speaker 4: This relationship, it defies all the laws of nature.
- 37:44Speaker 5: No, it doesn't.
- 37:46Speaker 13: This is not what you think.
- 37:48Speaker 3: We're just very good friends.
- 37:53Speaker 5: Get more out of life. Go out to a movie.
- 37:58Speaker 10: Out of town. Out of town. Out of the night.
- 38:04Speaker 10: Out of town.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Hope you're ready.
- 38:09Speaker 4: It'll be here any minute.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Is that a rifle?
- 38:13Speaker 4: You don't know what a rifle looks like?
- 38:16Speaker 8: It's just swords were your thing and guns were mine.
- 38:19Speaker 5: But I guess we're both doing guns now.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I just didn't know that.
- 38:23Speaker 14: Well, that's intense.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I see it within you. Fear. Jealousy.
- 38:40Speaker 12: Betrayal.
- 38:42Speaker 4: It is our duty to cleanse the universe of this weakness.
- 38:47Speaker 7: You know, they told me you people were conceited douchebags.
- 38:50Speaker 4: But that isn't true at all.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Dude.
- 38:53Speaker 15: I'm using my wrong eye.
- 39:09Speaker 4: So we're saving the galaxy again?
- 39:11Speaker 3: Yep.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Awesome!
- 39:14Speaker 2: We're really going to be.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Able to jack up our prices for two-time galaxy savers.
- 39:18Speaker 10: Yes!
- 39:48Speaker 2: Sometimes the thing you're searching for your whole life is
- 39:51Speaker 2: right there by your side all along.
- 39:53Speaker 5: You're right.
- 39:56Speaker 4: All you do is yell at each other. You are
- 39:58Speaker 4: not friends.
- 40:01Speaker 5: No, we're family.
- 40:16Speaker 3: After all these years, I've found you.
- 40:19Speaker 5: And who the hell are you?
- 40:21Speaker 4: I'm your dad, Peter. There's a port.
- 40:27Speaker 10: On a western bay and it serves.
- 40:45Speaker 14: A hundred ships a day, lonely sailors pass the time
- 40:50Speaker 14: away and talk about their homes. And there's a girl
- 40:57Speaker 14: in this harbor town and she works laying whiskey down.
- 41:02Speaker 14: They say brandy, fetch another round. She serves them whiskey
- 41:08Speaker 14: and wine. So, this week, we left the house. This
- 41:13Speaker 14: week's Out of the Town feature is Guardians of the
- 41:18Speaker 14: Galaxy Vol. 2.
- 41:39Speaker 4: The year is obviously 2017. The director, James Gunn, and
- 41:43Speaker 4: the plot, according to IMDb, set to the backdrop of
- 41:47Speaker 4: awesome mixtape number two, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,
- 41:52Speaker 4: continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of
- 41:55Speaker 4: Peter Quill's true parentage.
- 41:57Speaker 12: That's fine.
- 42:00Speaker 4: I mean, it's accurate, but that's just all of that
- 42:02Speaker 4: is oddly.
- 42:02Speaker 9: It might be a little too accurate, starting off with
- 42:04Speaker 9: the mixtape. Yeah, I was like, working... I thought it
- 42:07Speaker 9: was weird to hear the same songs multiple times. Or
- 42:10Speaker 9: maybe they just sounded alike, and I don't know the
- 42:12Speaker 9: music enough.
- 42:13Speaker 4: One was a callback, but it worked for me.
- 42:16Speaker 9: Was the one that they broke down the lyrics when
- 42:18Speaker 9: they were talking about his mom, was that the song
- 42:20Speaker 9: being repeated?
- 42:21Speaker 8: Because it seemed like there was one in.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Particular that played a couple times.
- 42:24Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:26Speaker 4: But, I mean, to me, that is one, if we
- 42:28Speaker 4: want to jump right to it, like, that is something
- 42:30Speaker 4: that I don't think I realized, and now I kind
- 42:32Speaker 4: of want to go back and watch, because I love
- 42:35Speaker 4: the early James Gunn stuff, and it's like, I don't
- 42:37Speaker 4: remember being near that.
- 42:38Speaker 8: Heavy on the music.
- 42:40Speaker 4: But, I mean, on these two movies, like, it's obvious
- 42:42Speaker 4: he's one of those directors.
- 42:44Speaker 8: I mean, that's one of those that people... He's going
- 42:46Speaker 8: to scare Zack Snyder.
- 42:46Speaker 9: Zack Snyder over his movie video history, or his music
- 42:50Speaker 9: video history, is.
- 42:50Speaker 8: Going to be like, you need to stop.
- 42:52Speaker 9: making all these music choreographed shots over here.
- 42:54Speaker 4: That's different though to me he's like trying to direct
- 42:56Speaker 4: like a music video director but you get the guys
- 42:59Speaker 4: like scorsese is a film director but he loves his
- 43:02Speaker 4: soundtrack so he will meticulously choose what song and specific
- 43:07Speaker 4: reasons why he wants that song and like all of
- 43:09Speaker 4: them you get to like um oliver stone well no
- 43:13Speaker 4: yeah he kind of is like that about his music
- 43:15Speaker 4: too Wes Anderson is definitely another one of those that
- 43:19Speaker 4: just immerses himself in, I want these weird songs for
- 43:22Speaker 4: this weird reason, and I'm going to put them in
- 43:23Speaker 4: because I like them, and I don't care how much
- 43:25Speaker 4: it costs me to license them. So we're getting more
- 43:27Speaker 4: and more guys that are like, that's part of their
- 43:29Speaker 4: auteur thing, is that they are really lean heavy on
- 43:32Speaker 4: the soundtrack. And I didn't know James Gunn was one
- 43:35Speaker 4: of those guys. And I thought maybe that was just
- 43:37Speaker 4: the gimmick sort of for that first one. But looking
- 43:40Speaker 4: at this, I'm like, no, it's not just... him like
- 43:43Speaker 4: throwing it in because I want to have a hit
- 43:45Speaker 4: soundtrack for the summer, which I mean, they worked last
- 43:47Speaker 4: time they sold a ton of those soundtracks, but the fact.
- 43:50Speaker 7: That, have you heard what Doritos is doing with the
- 43:53Speaker 7: soundtrack for this movie? Gosh, no, they have a limited edition,
- 43:58Speaker 7: which I believe is only available on Amazon, unfortunately, but
- 44:01Speaker 7: it has a working, uh, tape player on the bag,
- 44:05Speaker 7: which comes with a cassette copy of the soundtrack to
- 44:09Speaker 7: the movie.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Doritos, if you'd like to sponsor, get that.
- 44:14Speaker 9: I don't know, like USBs or something that are shaped
- 44:16Speaker 9: like cassette tapes. Some kind of digital version of what
- 44:19Speaker 9: would look like a cassette tape.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Online, there is one that's like officially sponsored through this movie.
- 44:23Speaker 4: And it's like, it looks exactly like an old school Walkman.
- 44:27Speaker 4: You can make that thing be like just gigs and
- 44:30Speaker 4: gigs and gigs.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Huge.
- 44:32Speaker 4: You can hold an entire hard drive, a huge hard
- 44:36Speaker 4: drive worth of stuff. So yeah, but I saw one,
- 44:38Speaker 4: and the only real difference is it's a digital recorder
- 44:43Speaker 4: that you can put yourself on, but at the same time,
- 44:45Speaker 4: it also has like a recording option.
- 44:46Speaker 12: Interesting.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Which I'm like, that's odd. Why bother with that part
- 44:51Speaker 4: of it?
- 44:51Speaker 8: But anyway, so yeah, there is already a weird Walkman
- 44:54Speaker 8: on there.
- 44:54Speaker 9: I wonder if it's in his hands anymore, though, because
- 44:56Speaker 9: like you said, the first soundtrack literally was like number
- 45:00Speaker 9: one for a couple weeks when the movie came out.
- 45:02Speaker 9: So maybe they were like, There will be a soundtrack
- 45:05Speaker 9: in part two, and you will push it.
- 45:07Speaker 4: That's probably just working in his favor, though, because I
- 45:09Speaker 4: feel like the fact that he's working the songs into
- 45:13Speaker 4: the story, the fact that our character is quoting lines from,
- 45:17Speaker 4: I'm like, he wrote that into the story.
- 45:18Speaker 9: He wants this music to be hard. It's not anonymous
- 45:21Speaker 9: background music. Yeah, it is actually being played in the
- 45:24Speaker 9: movie to the character.
- 45:25Speaker 4: Character carries around this tape full of these songs so
- 45:29Speaker 4: it i mean it is part of his character and
- 45:31Speaker 4: the fact that what the songs represent become part of
- 45:34Speaker 4: the story and are his character like i i think
- 45:37Speaker 4: that's kind of interesting and again i'm like now i
- 45:40Speaker 4: want to go back and see is is gun always
- 45:43Speaker 4: doing that like has that been something he's been really
- 45:45Speaker 4: immersed in or is this just part of him growing
- 45:47Speaker 4: as a director because i also think he's turned.
- 45:50Speaker 8: Into a maze.
- 45:51Speaker 4: I mean, he always was like, super is phenomenal. Like
- 45:54Speaker 4: to watch just as a weird, unconventional movie. Slither is
- 45:58Speaker 4: amazing as a weird, unconventional horror movie. So the fact
- 46:01Speaker 4: that he's moved into conventional territory, but I still think
- 46:05Speaker 4: they look really great and they're planned out and directed
- 46:08Speaker 4: pretty impressive for somebody who's like probably under the thumb
- 46:12Speaker 4: of a giant studio system.
- 46:14Speaker 8: He still kind of has some flair.
- 46:16Speaker 7: Well, even if you go back to his early stuff,
- 46:18Speaker 7: just like his writing credits.
- 46:20Speaker 4: For what it was, it worked really well. which like Tromeo.
- 46:24Speaker 4: I was going to say Tromeo and Juliet or Scooby-Doo.
- 46:28Speaker 4: As much as I hate to admit it.
- 46:29Speaker 7: Um, when I went to see, uh, Scooby-Doo and I
- 46:34Speaker 7: learned that he was the writer or writer, I was like, well, okay,
- 46:37Speaker 7: maybe this won't be so bad.
- 46:38Speaker 4: And it really wasn't that bad.
- 46:39Speaker 8: I mean, even as it stands, it's not bad.
- 46:41Speaker 4: It's ridiculous. But even then, like I found out recently,
- 46:44Speaker 4: like that's the studio rewrite version that made it to
- 46:47Speaker 4: the screen. Oh, His original one was not all the
- 46:50Speaker 4: stupid kiddie jokes. Like it was a pretty solid story
- 46:54Speaker 4: that just worked in all the stuff we wanted from that.
- 46:57Speaker 8: Like the Agatha Christie murder mystery.
- 47:01Speaker 4: And it was a little more on the, like the
- 47:03Speaker 4: fact that, yeah, obviously we've got the girl, like the,
- 47:05Speaker 4: the weird sexual tension going on with the whole group.
- 47:08Speaker 4: And like, I think it leaned more into the adult
- 47:10Speaker 4: of like, no, these are teenagers. And like, this is
- 47:12Speaker 4: the story. It's not, it wasn't kiddie fight and the
- 47:15Speaker 4: CG goofball fest that it became. Which is still pretty
- 47:18Speaker 4: enjoyable in its own dumb way. It could have been worse. Oh, yeah. Well, again,
- 47:23Speaker 4: look at some of the other stuff this movie is
- 47:25Speaker 4: knocking out with a big dumb CG character in the
- 47:27Speaker 4: middle of it. It could be way worse, and I
- 47:29Speaker 4: give a lot of that credit to James Gunn. It's
- 47:31Speaker 4: as fun and watchable as it is. Did it feel
- 47:35Speaker 4: a bit heavy-handed, though?
- 47:36Speaker 9: Because I thought it was... I'm not complaining. The music
- 47:39Speaker 9: was fine, but I did find myself getting pulled out
- 47:43Speaker 9: of the movie when we had to find a reason
- 47:45Speaker 9: to cut the music on. You know, like when they
- 47:47Speaker 9: were in the pirate ship at some point, someone was like, hey,
- 47:49Speaker 9: has anyone got any Peter's music? Like at some point
- 47:52Speaker 9: someone told someone to go and turn on Peter's music
- 47:55Speaker 9: for like, I think when they broke out of the ship.
- 47:57Speaker 9: And I was just like, I mean, do we have
- 48:00Speaker 9: to write it into the script so literally that like, okay,
- 48:02Speaker 9: and now we turn on the music. Like, I was
- 48:04Speaker 9: just like, can it just be the music? It felt
- 48:06Speaker 9: weird that it was so in the movie at so
- 48:08Speaker 9: many points, like people sharing the headphones or putting them
- 48:12Speaker 9: on or.
- 48:13Speaker 8: But again, that kind of ties into the story by
- 48:16Speaker 8: the end.
- 48:16Speaker 4: I actually really liked that moment at the end there,
- 48:19Speaker 4: so to jump ahead. But to go back, that is
- 48:24Speaker 4: probably the most heavy-handed moment of the music. Again, when
- 48:28Speaker 4: we get to the dancing scene, I felt like that
- 48:30Speaker 4: was pretty normal and kind of worked well. as the
- 48:34Speaker 4: dynamic for those two. I actually like that moment. It's
- 48:37Speaker 4: one of the few times I'm like, there is kind
- 48:39Speaker 4: of something there. In the beginning, it felt like this
- 48:42Speaker 4: is what we want to happen, and we're shoving them
- 48:44Speaker 4: together where they like. There was some chemistry throughout this
- 48:46Speaker 4: entire movie that I'm like, no, okay, they do care
- 48:49Speaker 4: about each other. I do want them to be together
- 48:51Speaker 4: because now it fits, not just because the screenplay says so.
- 48:54Speaker 7: But I like how they were self-aware about that and
- 48:57Speaker 7: brought up the whole Sam and Diane.
- 48:59Speaker 8: Actually, you mentioned.
- 49:00Speaker 7: Cheers, which is always the big example in any, you know,
- 49:05Speaker 7: that's where everyone compares everything to.
- 49:07Speaker 8: I always go to Moonlighting.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Because they're the example of what happens when you screw
- 49:10Speaker 4: it up.
- 49:11Speaker 6: Right.
- 49:11Speaker 4: They're like, no, no.
- 49:12Speaker 9: That's when it ended, right? When they got together. Because
- 49:14Speaker 9: they got together.
- 49:15Speaker 8: It's like tension, tension, tension.
- 49:16Speaker 4: But within the span of like a season and a half.
- 49:19Speaker 8: And then it was like, okay.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Let's do this oh like this doesn't work at all
- 49:23Speaker 4: now like so yeah that's the example for the other
- 49:26Speaker 4: end of the spectrum when you're like no no no
- 49:28Speaker 4: there's a reason the tension needs to be there if
- 49:30Speaker 4: you go too far with it you ruin everything so
- 49:33Speaker 4: it's like you gotta again it's balance you gotta find
- 49:35Speaker 4: how to work that shit so.
- 49:37Speaker 9: I'm you mentioned the dance scene And again, I don't
- 49:41Speaker 9: want to sound like a troll.
- 49:42Speaker 4: I like the movie.
- 49:43Speaker 9: I like the other movie. I like all this stuff.
- 49:45Speaker 9: So I don't want to sound like a troll when
- 49:46Speaker 9: I just point these kind of things out. I did
- 49:48Speaker 9: find that I was getting a bit of that Star
- 49:50Speaker 9: Wars vibe in the sense that, what was it Lucas
- 49:53Speaker 9: calls it, like the visual poetry or whatever, where things
- 49:56Speaker 9: are similar even though they're different movies. This felt like
- 49:59Speaker 9: it hit all the beats from the first movie. There
- 50:01Speaker 9: was like a breakout. There was them having an emotional
- 50:04Speaker 9: moment with dancing. I mean, it felt like there was
- 50:07Speaker 9: these moments where I was like, we're doing this again right.
- 50:10Speaker 4: You're talking ring theory and that's only for lucas hardcore
- 50:14Speaker 4: geeks um i don't know see i you didn't get
- 50:18Speaker 4: that no because i felt like i was and again
- 50:21Speaker 4: i've just seen it the one time this week and
- 50:23Speaker 4: then but i did go back and re-watch the first
- 50:25Speaker 4: one this weekend as well and i'm like i liked
- 50:29Speaker 4: it i think because it sort of broke out of
- 50:31Speaker 4: the mold of Because all of these, not even just
- 50:35Speaker 4: the Marvel movies, but definitely all the Marvel movies fall
- 50:37Speaker 4: into this and all superhero movies. And most sci-fi, like,
- 50:41Speaker 4: everything falls into, we gotta have the big villain. And then, like,
- 50:44Speaker 4: it almost gets sidetracked with how many other sub-villains can
- 50:48Speaker 4: we get. And that was almost the thing last time
- 50:49Speaker 4: with the other, like, we had so many sub-villains in
- 50:53Speaker 4: that last one. Because we know, okay, we're not gonna
- 50:54Speaker 4: get to the big bad. Because we know he's three
- 50:56Speaker 4: movies out. So it's like, we've gotta focus on this
- 50:59Speaker 4: other guy, but nobody really knows who this guy is. Like,
- 51:02Speaker 4: at least for audiences, maybe comic people were a little
- 51:05Speaker 4: more invested in him. But I was like, I think he.
- 51:08Speaker 9: Was just meant to embody the Kree. Just the Kree
- 51:10Speaker 9: in general. I think he was meant to, like, for the...
- 51:13Speaker 9: At the point, I think that was the first. I
- 51:15Speaker 9: know they have some Kree on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but
- 51:17Speaker 9: I don't watch. But I think Guardians was the first
- 51:19Speaker 9: time Main Street Bonnie and Saw Kree. So I think
- 51:22Speaker 9: he was supposed to just kind of get through it at, like,
- 51:25Speaker 9: when you think of Kree, for the most part, think
- 51:27Speaker 9: of really angry dudes that don't want you to exist.
- 51:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 51:31Speaker 9: Like, they just, they're kind of like space Nazis. They
- 51:33Speaker 9: just want control of everything.
- 51:34Speaker 8: We focused so.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Much on him, and then we had Nebula running around,
- 51:37Speaker 4: who was a full-on villain at that point. She's so
- 51:39Speaker 4: important to the bigger story. It's that kind of thing where, like,
- 51:42Speaker 4: if you haven't read the comic, Nebula has to be around.
- 51:45Speaker 4: She was almost so sidelined on that first movie because
- 51:48Speaker 4: we already had a bad guy and another bigger bad guy. And, like,
- 51:50Speaker 4: I felt like I wanted to.
- 51:52Speaker 8: Know more about her in that first movie.
- 51:53Speaker 4: And this time we get to it, I'm like, okay,
- 51:55Speaker 4: well now, because we've gotten rid of the secondary bad guy...
- 51:58Speaker 4: We can focus more on her as she becomes not
- 52:01Speaker 4: really a bad guy anyway, but I.
- 52:04Speaker 8: Liked it because it was a little more focused away.
- 52:06Speaker 4: From the villains, away from the Infinity Stone story and
- 52:10Speaker 4: all that stuff that we had the first time around.
- 52:12Speaker 4: It takes a big turn that's just like, No, we're
- 52:14Speaker 4: going to follow this dad storyline and that's.
- 52:16Speaker 8: Going to be it. It was slice of life.
- 52:18Speaker 5: And then everything.
- 52:18Speaker 8: It's the complete opposite.
- 52:19Speaker 9: There was almost little plot and it was just slice
- 52:21Speaker 9: of life.
- 52:22Speaker 4: Which.
- 52:22Speaker 8: This is what happened with the Guardians this week.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Yeah. I really like... I responded to that because then
- 52:27Speaker 4: it became... It's so free. Everything is about... You knew
- 52:30Speaker 4: it was going to end, but you didn't know ahead
- 52:32Speaker 4: what the end was going to be because it's so
- 52:34Speaker 4: wide open.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:35Speaker 4: And because it's not specifically... Again, it's not falling into the.
- 52:40Speaker 8: Situation of, okay, and we have.
- 52:42Speaker 4: To be here by the end of this, like you
- 52:44Speaker 4: get with Netflix that we were bitching about earlier.
- 52:47Speaker 8: We have to get to Defenders, so whatever.
- 52:48Speaker 4: We gotta do this. Third Star Wars. Yeah, this is
- 52:50Speaker 4: one of those... Third.
- 52:51Speaker 9: Prequel where the last ten minutes was connecting a bunch
- 52:53Speaker 9: of dots.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Doing Star Wars, I was thinking it's almost like the
- 52:57Speaker 4: Guardians movies themselves are almost the Rogue One.
- 53:00Speaker 8: It's almost the outline. It's not an episode number. Didn't
- 53:02Speaker 8: this one feel Empire?
- 53:03Speaker 4: It ties to... Well, I mean, it ties to the
- 53:05Speaker 4: universe hardcore, but.
- 53:07Speaker 8: It does not have to abide.
- 53:09Speaker 4: By any of the bullshit going on in the main series.
- 53:11Speaker 4: It can do its own side stories. It can kill
- 53:14Speaker 4: people as long as it doesn't tie too much to
- 53:16Speaker 4: this one. So it like it really felt free compared
- 53:19Speaker 4: to the Marvel arc that we've been dealing with where
- 53:22Speaker 4: every one of those, you know. every thor has to
- 53:25Speaker 4: lead to this every captain america has to tie directly
- 53:28Speaker 4: into what's going to happen in the next avengers so
- 53:29Speaker 4: it's like they felt so streamlined into this is our
- 53:32Speaker 4: story we got to force all this stuff in where
- 53:34Speaker 4: this one feels like we're just telling a crazy story
- 53:36Speaker 4: and it happens to be in the same universe i.
- 53:38Speaker 9: Think there was a conscious choice made though because my
- 53:40Speaker 9: understanding now now that the movie's out and everyone has
- 53:43Speaker 9: this plot and all the spoilers and yeah and all
- 53:46Speaker 9: this stuff.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Which by the way spoiler alert we yeah i'm sure
- 53:49Speaker 4: we're gonna wreck this i'm sure we'll run that um
- 53:52Speaker 4: i'm wondering.
- 53:52Speaker 9: If it's a conscious thing because now you know like
- 53:55Speaker 9: i said people that if you've read the comic you
- 53:57Speaker 9: have an idea of what what cast of people were
- 54:00Speaker 9: around for the big conflict with thanos and i it
- 54:05Speaker 9: sounds like they're changing that up yeah that's because adam
- 54:08Speaker 9: adam again you know the stingers at the end we
- 54:11Speaker 9: finally get an official name drop of adam warlock yeah
- 54:15Speaker 9: and in the comic he's He's the main guy against Thanos,
- 54:19Speaker 9: not the Avengers.
- 54:20Speaker 4: And it sounds like.
- 54:20Speaker 8: I mean, that's the kind of swerve. And it sounds like.
- 54:22Speaker 4: He's not even going to be in the Infinity War.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 4: He's not.
- 54:25Speaker 8: Unless they're trying to hide it.
- 54:27Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 54:28Speaker 8: They're saying he's not in Infinity War.
- 54:30Speaker 4: But I think that's.
- 54:31Speaker 8: Coming from James Gunn, too.
- 54:32Speaker 4: Unless he's just really screwing with people.
- 54:34Speaker 9: Which is why I say, I think they're completely trying
- 54:38Speaker 9: to break Guardians away from it.
- 54:40Speaker 4: It's always still.
- 54:41Speaker 9: some people are going to be there, but I don't
- 54:43Speaker 9: think it's going to be as interwoven as the first
- 54:45Speaker 9: one made you feel, because the first one, you go
- 54:47Speaker 9: back and you watch that first Guardians, and it's the
- 54:49Speaker 9: one that's just like, this is the guy, this is
- 54:52Speaker 9: the items... This is the big bad.
- 54:55Speaker 4: And the fact that they were referring to it as
- 54:57Speaker 4: the Infinity Stone the whole time, where before they're just like,
- 55:00Speaker 4: I don't know, there's this jewel, and they don't know
- 55:01Speaker 4: what they're doing. They're bumbling around. This is like, no, guys,
- 55:04Speaker 4: here it is. It's going to go in the glove.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Let's go get it.
- 55:07Speaker 7: But even at that, though, I still feel like the
- 55:08Speaker 7: first one was enough of a movie on its own
- 55:12Speaker 7: that somebody who wasn't really... I'm not really familiar with
- 55:16Speaker 7: a lot of what's going on in the Marvel movie
- 55:17Speaker 7: universe right now. I'm the first to admit that. I'm
- 55:20Speaker 7: so behind on all this stuff. But I didn't feel
- 55:23Speaker 7: like I was missing anything.
- 55:25Speaker 8: It works on its own. It is its own. And again,
- 55:28Speaker 8: I like that.
- 55:29Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying with those ones that are just like, eh,
- 55:31Speaker 4: we'll fill in the rest later. Both of them, but
- 55:34Speaker 4: specifically that first one is so perfectly structured to be
- 55:38Speaker 4: its own standalone movie, not even connected to the rest
- 55:41Speaker 4: of the Guardian series that are obviously going on now,
- 55:44Speaker 4: but it just by itself is a great separate movie.
- 55:47Speaker 7: It kind of makes me wonder why they can't do
- 55:49Speaker 7: that with all the other movies. They should be able to,
- 55:53Speaker 7: but I feel like you could still drop in enough
- 55:56Speaker 7: so that when it's all said and done with, you
- 55:57Speaker 7: can say, okay, I see where this all fits together now.
- 56:00Speaker 4: And they kind of started that way. I feel like
- 56:02Speaker 4: it became that crutch as we go on. Like that
- 56:06Speaker 4: first Captain America movie is a standalone. Yes, it leads
- 56:09Speaker 4: you right into the next thing, but. by itself, the story.
- 56:13Speaker 8: Stands alone so much so.
- 56:14Speaker 4: That it's decades ahead.
- 56:15Speaker 8: Remember when the Stingers were the connection?
- 56:16Speaker 9: You know, back in the day, the Stinger was the connection.
- 56:18Speaker 9: It was like, oh my God, Nick Fury was at
- 56:19Speaker 9: the end.
- 56:19Speaker 4: That was the only thing where you get to, like,
- 56:22Speaker 4: Winter Soldier and Civil War, like, it's just, and the
- 56:25Speaker 4: next day, and chapter, you know, it just, it really
- 56:28Speaker 4: is just a serial at that point.
- 56:29Speaker 9: It's episodic, but you're going to the theater to see
- 56:31Speaker 9: the episodes.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is just serials.
- 56:33Speaker 9: The mentality doesn't seem to be a movie mentality. It
- 56:37Speaker 9: is becoming so much, I mean, 10 years in, it's
- 56:40Speaker 9: so dependent now on its contextual... brother pieces that it's like, I.
- 56:45Speaker 4: But again, like these, I feel like are so outlying,
- 56:49Speaker 4: like even as connected as that first one was like,
- 56:52Speaker 4: it works on its own. And this one is still
- 56:54Speaker 4: so separate from that first one that like, I don't know.
- 56:58Speaker 8: I really like, I really enjoyed it.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Like I was, I was kind of going in going,
- 57:02Speaker 4: this could really, you know, be a letdown. And I
- 57:05Speaker 4: was just thrilled that it was its own thing. And
- 57:08Speaker 4: it was like, so different. And yet, all of the
- 57:12Speaker 4: stuff still worked. And because it's so not plot driven
- 57:16Speaker 4: by villains in the bigger picture, it also became such
- 57:19Speaker 4: a character study that that became it for everybody. And
- 57:23Speaker 4: it all just came, became about relationships and everything was
- 57:26Speaker 4: just like, well, you watch all of them sort of
- 57:29Speaker 4: like reexamining themselves and be like, okay, we know Peter,
- 57:32Speaker 4: you know, one has his father issues and wants to
- 57:34Speaker 4: figure that out. But you see all the rest of
- 57:37Speaker 4: them as we get to.
- 57:38Speaker 8: Like, the role that Yondu now.
- 57:41Speaker 4: Has is like as much of a dick as he
- 57:43Speaker 4: was in that first one. And you assumed he was, again,
- 57:46Speaker 4: he was sort of another sub villain in that first
- 57:48Speaker 4: one where now it's like.
- 57:50Speaker 9: No, but they finally dropped that he was a good guy.
- 57:53Speaker 8: Yeah, he's not a villain at all.
- 57:54Speaker 9: He's actually, comic-wise, he's one of the original Guardians of
- 57:57Speaker 9: the Galaxy. Star-Lord is like a further incarnation of the team.
- 58:00Speaker 9: The original Guardians had Yondu.
- 58:03Speaker 8: So that was cool.
- 58:04Speaker 9: And Sylvester Stallone and all those cats, that was the
- 58:07Speaker 9: original clique.
- 58:07Speaker 8: The original lineup, yeah.
- 58:08Speaker 9: Forget their names, with the red salamander dude, the Asian
- 58:12Speaker 9: chicken green, the big dude, Ving Rhames, Charlie 23. Those guys,
- 58:17Speaker 9: that was the original Guardians of the Galaxy. And that
- 58:20Speaker 9: was Yondu like getting his, his comeuppance, you know, and
- 58:24Speaker 9: his death. And I mean, that was all, it was
- 58:26Speaker 9: so weird. I found myself in a theater, literally going
- 58:29Speaker 9: from like laughing to crying. Like I can openly say that,
- 58:32Speaker 9: like it was so kind of silly in life for
- 58:34Speaker 9: like the first three quarters that I did have moments
- 58:37Speaker 9: where I.
- 58:38Speaker 8: Was like, is this too light?
- 58:39Speaker 9: Where I was like, is this so kind of like,
- 58:42Speaker 9: almost like watching like a Looney Tunes card. Is this
- 58:44Speaker 9: so light that you almost don't care what's going on?
- 58:46Speaker 9: But then as the end was happening, it's like, no,
- 58:47Speaker 9: I care what's going on. Like it was landing. I
- 58:50Speaker 9: didn't realize it was landing. But even though I was
- 58:53Speaker 9: light and laughing by the end, I was really bummed
- 58:56Speaker 9: out by a lot of stuff that happened in that
- 58:58Speaker 9: last third.
- 58:59Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I've realized more and more what a
- 59:02Speaker 4: sap I've been. Like I always have been, but like
- 59:05Speaker 4: it gets worse the older I get. And I'm like,
- 59:07Speaker 4: the big, like, again, the change, tie in there that
- 59:11Speaker 4: that song like comes back in and that i feel
- 59:13Speaker 4: like was purposefully like we planted it and then it
- 59:16Speaker 4: comes back for the big emotional part at the end
- 59:19Speaker 4: and i'm like oh shit like it really is like.
- 59:22Speaker 8: Are we talking about the Stevie Nicks song at the
- 59:24Speaker 8: very end?
- 59:24Speaker 4: Yeah, when he's just like, you killed my mother.
- 59:27Speaker 8: When everything kind of hits.
- 59:28Speaker 4: That was like Civil War all over, though.
- 59:30Speaker 8: When Stark freaked out, seen the video. I felt like
- 59:32Speaker 8: that was a direct shout out.
- 59:33Speaker 4: It was like a heavy moment that I'm like, I
- 59:35Speaker 4: didn't expect this from.
- 59:36Speaker 8: Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 59:37Speaker 9: Him to shoot right away. Because I thought it was
- 59:39Speaker 9: going to be like, he was going to have this
- 59:40Speaker 9: weird inner struggle.
- 59:41Speaker 8: And Mom was number one.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Mom was first.
- 59:44Speaker 8: He was gunning right out. I thought that was very cool.
- 59:48Speaker 8: That was hardcore. I love that.
- 59:50Speaker 7: I figured there'd be this big, emotional back and forth
- 59:54Speaker 7: for 20 minutes.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Do I kill him?
- 59:56Speaker 7: No, don't kill him. He's gonna destroy the universe.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Blah, blah, blah.
- 59:58Speaker 4: But I came down to it.
- 59:59Speaker 14: Nope.
- 59:59Speaker 7: You took my mom away from me.
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: He's still the gunslinger. He's still like, nope, fuck you.
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: It felt like Civil War again.
- 1:00:05Speaker 9: It was that moment when Tony was like, you killed
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: my mom and then fighting commenced.
- 1:00:08Speaker 8: It was like that.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: It was like, It.
- 1:00:10Speaker 9: Made me, again, kind of look over all the Marvel
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: movies and be like, man, they love their moms and
- 1:00:15Speaker 9: they hate their dads.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: They hate their dads.
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: I mean, Thanos is a terrible dad.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: I mean, the big bad is a bad dad. It's
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: weird that they're owned by Disney because Disney's the other way.
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: Man, they hate moms.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: They hate moms. They will kill off a mom any
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: time they get a chance. And usually both parents, but
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: if there's one surviving when it's always dad and the
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: daughter loves dad and like... So yeah, it's funny that
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Disney now owns them because they're going the opposite direction
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: in the Marvel world, but... yeah i again i feel
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: like it's so heavily like and i thought like i
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: wonder as i'm sitting there i'm like i wonder if
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: this is gonna like rub comic book geeks the wrong
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: way because it it i think it works so well
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: and it's so relationshipy that i'm like i'm kind of
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: eating it up because it's oh yeah it's well written
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: character development like i'm like we're watching like these two
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: sisters that have spent the entirety of their life like
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: being angry at each other and be like you know,
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: this is the whole reason.
- 1:01:08Speaker 8: Like, all I wanted you to be was my sister.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: Right, like, even that hug.
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: That stuff is so good.
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: As awkward as that hug was, I did feel like
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: Mai's quite a little, like, yeah, that's... They worked it out.
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: But then, like, I mean, all of it works so well.
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: Like, the.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: I mean, the fact that Yondu and... peter kind of
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: thing but the rocket and yondu that yeah that's a
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: great relation that again i did not want to again
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: it was when it was really when they when they
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: had that weird awkward bye yeah i was a little
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: broken up i was like this fucking sucks and rocket
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: like real because again like in the beginning of the
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: movie i'm like is rocket just trying to be a
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: dick like again he was like he was kind of
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: a little bit abrasive in the first movie to like
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: he's really going out of his way.
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: To be a jerk this time around. It felt like
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: it was on purpose in this one. He was trying
- 1:01:50Speaker 9: to sabotage him.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Maybe it is. You realize the reason that everybody thinks
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Yondu is.
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: A jackass is because he tries to be a jackass.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: It is him watching like, oh, I kind of don't
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: want to go my whole life, and only when I
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: get to the end of my life do people realize I.
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: Was actually a decent person.
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: Kind of reminded me of how I felt reading Lord
- 1:02:11Speaker 9: of the Rings. I felt like, right or wrong. And
- 1:02:14Speaker 9: my impression was that Frodo's whole reason for keeping Gollum
- 1:02:17Speaker 9: alive so long is because he had to believe that
- 1:02:19Speaker 9: he could be saved after doing all this.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: And I kind of got the impression where Rocket and
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: Yondu were like, he sees him kind of going off
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: to die like this. I think Rocket It was kind
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: of like, shit, this is going to be me. I'm
- 1:02:30Speaker 9: going to be this asshole my whole life that's going
- 1:02:32Speaker 9: to have to do something crazy as I die just
- 1:02:35Speaker 9: to get any... So again, when he's watching the funeral
- 1:02:38Speaker 9: and he's crying, those scenes didn't have to be in there,
- 1:02:40Speaker 9: especially with how light the movie was.
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: And it totally landed for me.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: Again, his line when they're trying to leave and he's like,
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: I've already lost one friend today.
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I can't lose another one.
- 1:02:51Speaker 8: It was like, oh my God.
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: And then the speech Drax gives about how it's okay
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: to be ugly because then you know.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: if someone really loves you. And it's like, Jesus Christ.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: Like you did not expect all characters Drax to like,
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: all of a sudden, like in his own messed up way.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Like he, it doesn't like, even he's sort of unaware
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: of how attached he's becoming to this other character. And
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: then by end, you're like, Oh, he, they both kind
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: of need the other one to be there and are
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: figuring out shit because they're dealing with this new relationship.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: And I'm just like, That's kind of, again, to be
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: in a goofy comic book movie that's in the middle
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: of this huge universe of Marvel goings on, like the
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: fact that those moments are still so solid and still
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: work so well on just basic character development for people
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: that are all dyed crazy colors. I think in.
- 1:03:44Speaker 9: The comic, he's actually purple. If I remember right, he's
- 1:03:46Speaker 9: green or purple.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe purple just because that's a little closer. I
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: feel like it's not that.
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: Well, the thing is, they're all Titans.
- 1:03:54Speaker 9: They don't talk about it much, but in the comic,
- 1:03:56Speaker 9: they're Gamora, Drax, Thanos.
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: There's like three or four other.
- 1:04:02Speaker 9: All of them, they're Titans. They're all godlike, which is
- 1:04:04Speaker 9: why the only point I'm bringing up is that's why
- 1:04:07Speaker 9: Drax can be smacked between trees by a ship and live.
- 1:04:10Speaker 9: He is actually a lot more godlike than they let on.
- 1:04:13Speaker 9: Where am I going with this? Oh, but Drax in
- 1:04:15Speaker 9: the comic, is Elmer Fudd.
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: He's not likeable at all.
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: He's dumb to the end power. So the fact that
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: they found a way to do it in a way
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: where he's not a throwaway is genius. Cause in the comic,
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: Drax is nobody. I mean, he's literally, you're just like
- 1:04:29Speaker 9: this idiot again. Like he's not anyone that you care
- 1:04:32Speaker 9: about his dialogue in that way. And James Gunn did
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: it somehow. Like, like I said with Hawkeye earlier, like Drax,
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: one of those people in a comic, I don't care.
- 1:04:39Speaker 9: In the movies, totally entertaining.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: And I actually care about him on screen.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: And yeah, as it went on, like, again, re-watching that
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: first one, too, like, the fact that he does dumb things,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: he goes and gets drunk and calls them in, and like,
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: you're like, ah, what an idiot. But then by the end,
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: when you see him, like, sort of come to terms with, okay,
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: I've lost my family, but now I have these people,
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: and caring about them is equally as important.
- 1:05:02Speaker 8: Doing the gentle giant thing.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like.
- 1:05:04Speaker 8: The way he held her up as he was dying.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: Stuff like that. It was kind of little, but he's
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: getting stuff again. The way he held up Mantis. He's
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: got character that you shouldn't... I was just like, holy shit.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: Because there's points where you're like, this guy's kind of
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: an asshole.
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: It's kind of like Jane from Firefly. This guy's kind
- 1:05:19Speaker 9: of an asshole and he's going to traitor us at
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: any point.
- 1:05:21Speaker 8: They're all kind of assholes. But then he has those
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: moments where you're like, no, he cares. Like, is.
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: dumb quoteys or whatever you want to call it, he
- 1:05:28Speaker 9: does actually have a heart and he does actually care
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: about everybody.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: I feel like he was dumb in the first movie
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: and more, I guess, almost childlike.
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: Naive in this one.
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: And I think it was a good move on their part.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: And I don't know how much of that translates from
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: the comic, but I think that's a very impressive, hopefully
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: a conscious move on James Gunn's part, but very... impressive
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: that he's taken like what is a a group of
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: people that are by themselves pretty unlikable and like because
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: even even quill is like he's he's He's a jackass. Like,
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: he screws around with any girl he meets. Like, everything
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: in the beginning.
- 1:06:06Speaker 8: He's the 90s action hero.
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: He really is.
- 1:06:08Speaker 8: Like, he should be. He thinks he can hook up
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: with any girl and he's going to get the shit done.
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: He's just kind of cocky and cocksure.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: He's a little old school James Bond. Like, he really
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: is that, like, 60s era. I'm so fucking cool. I
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: can hook up with any girl. Like, he has that
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: cocky attitude that you're like, you shouldn't like that guy.
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: Because you met his dad, right? So now we have
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: his dad. It does make sense.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: But at the same time, I'm like, even him, like,
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: he's our, you know, center to this. And, like, the
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: fact that it also helps that we have an actor
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: that's so damn likable.
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: So, I mean, I think if you cast that wrong,
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: he could just be a dick.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: But, like, the fact that it's written so well, the
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: characters are, all the actors are amazing. So I think
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: they've all built this thing that, like, Rocket, by himself,
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: is a jerk. And, like, the only reason, like, we
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: start to like him is because he starts to see,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: you know, that same thing. Like, they all find this, like,
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: the fact that we're a team and kind of a
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: family and we're all misfits and we all come together
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: and we're better because of it. Like, you know, all
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: of them have their weird issues that make them unlikable.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: So the fact that gun writes it so that they're likable,
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: the performances make it so that as quirky as they are,
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: they come together and you really do care about these characters.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: It's pretty damn impressive. Like I, I, again, I'm continually
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: amazed by the fact that all of this landed is
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: as solidly as it does.
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: This is weird.
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: We've got a sovereign fleet approaching from the rear.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: Why would they do that?
- 1:07:33Speaker 14: Probably because Rocket stole some of their batteries.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Dude!
- 1:07:37Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: He didn't steal some of those.
- 1:07:39Speaker 8: I don't know why they're after us. What a mystery
- 1:07:40Speaker 8: this is.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: What were you thinking? Dude, they were really easy to steal.
- 1:07:46Speaker 11: That's your defense?
- 1:07:47Speaker 10: Come on.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: You saw how that high priestess talked down to us.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: Now I'm teaching her a lesson.
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: I didn't realize your.
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: Motivation was altruism.
- 1:07:56Speaker 11: It's really a shame the Sovereign have mistaken your intentions
- 1:07:58Speaker 11: and are trying to kill us.
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: Exactly. I was being sarcastic.
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: Oh, no, you're supposed to use a sarcastic voice. Now
- 1:08:05Speaker 8: I look foolish.
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: Can we put the bickering on hold until after we
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: survive this massive space battle?
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: More incoming.
- 1:08:11Speaker 10: Good.
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: I'm going to kill some guys.
- 1:08:14Speaker 9: There's times where I feel like James Gunn is trying
- 1:08:17Speaker 9: to almost create his own thing. Like, in a sense,
- 1:08:20Speaker 9: like I said, I mentioned earlier, like, I got an
- 1:08:22Speaker 9: Empire Strikes Back vibe. Like, I feel like, in James
- 1:08:25Speaker 9: Gunn's head, he wants this to be so big and
- 1:08:27Speaker 9: awesome that even after Infinity War, like, Guardians just kind
- 1:08:31Speaker 9: of breaks off over here and keeps going in its
- 1:08:33Speaker 9: own bubble.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: I'm fine with that.
- 1:08:35Speaker 9: Because they're so fun. Like I said, they make it
- 1:08:37Speaker 9: look like space is a party. Anywhere you go in space,
- 1:08:40Speaker 9: it's party time, and it's bright, and it's colorful, and
- 1:08:41Speaker 9: it's silly.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: And it's always interesting, and yeah, there's all kinds of
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: crazy characters. I wasn't a big fan of the Sovereign, though.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: I thought In the beginning, it made sense. The whole
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: mission stuff.
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: But when they showed up on a snow planet and
- 1:08:51Speaker 9: they had the the girls like doing the blue carpet,
- 1:08:54Speaker 9: it was a, it was funny, but I was like, okay,
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: you kind of demean what they are. Cause they're, especially
- 1:08:59Speaker 9: if they're supposed to be, I'm assuming the movie's version
- 1:09:02Speaker 9: of the enclave, the enclave was like super smart scientists
- 1:09:05Speaker 9: that created Adam Warlock. He's supposed to be in essence,
- 1:09:08Speaker 9: like a man-made God. This is like perfection. And so
- 1:09:13Speaker 9: like if a race of people that are supposed to
- 1:09:14Speaker 9: be perfecting themselves, act like idiots, like every scene, it's like,
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: You guys are like, The best of the best. You've
- 1:09:23Speaker 9: perfected your DNA or whatever it is over the generations.
- 1:09:26Speaker 9: This is the smart kids? You guys come off real dopey.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: But again, there may be some truth to it. You
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: always look at these weird, super futuristic societies where we've
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: gotten rid of war and all these hunger and all
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: these problems. You get to the weird, I always go
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: back to Logan's Run, but the Logan's Run world where
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: you're just like, yeah, but look at you guys. You
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: guys need to go out and pet some cats and
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: get dirty and like you know it's like they always
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: seem so disconnected and kind of taking things in the
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: wrong way it's like yes you're super smart and you
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: have no problems but you're not human anymore but you're
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: yeah you've lost the essence of what you need to
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: be a human so yeah I think it's part of
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: that like and again I don't know how planned out
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: that was but I think that's again for me that's
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: how it landed that was like Yes, they're very silly
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: as it goes on.
- 1:10:18Speaker 8: In the comic, she is the female version of him. Yeah,
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: she's her.
- 1:10:22Speaker 9: In the comic, they do capital letters like they're gods.
- 1:10:25Speaker 9: She's the first one, and then they create him, so
- 1:10:28Speaker 9: it's weird that she's creating him. But it was almost
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: like he was the upgrade. They're like, all right, let's
- 1:10:31Speaker 9: try this again. And Adam Warlock's the one that... I mean,
- 1:10:34Speaker 9: it's a very Adam and Eve thing.
- 1:10:35Speaker 8: I was going to say.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: Adam Warlock is the one that... It could make this
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: in the long run work better, I guess, if we're
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: going to take it a different direction anyway, that we
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: don't get so Adam and Eve, but we get a
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: little more... Frankenstein's monster kind of thing. I created this thing.
- 1:10:49Speaker 8: They acted like they were going to put him in
- 1:10:51Speaker 8: this movie at first. I think that was part of it.
- 1:10:53Speaker 8: And then they were like, we got too many people
- 1:10:55Speaker 8: as it is. I think he had it written, actually.
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: Really? When I was looking through today, I think he... Well,
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: with the cocoon in the first one, that's what was
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: going to be. Now they're saying you've kind of undone it. Yeah,
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: he was just like, I was just kind of joking
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: around with that. And then he went, oh, but I
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: actually want to put him in, so... The way I
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: was going through before, like, right before we started, I
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: was reading through some of the stuff, and it's like,
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I think he had actually written a story that had
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: him as a main character, and it was the same
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: thing I was saying about villains in the last one.
- 1:11:20Speaker 8: He was like, it's just too many characters.
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: Like, we've already added in his dad, and we've added in.
- 1:11:26Speaker 9: Not that he isn't a comic either, but I thought
- 1:11:27Speaker 9: they would be like, well, let's make Adam Warlock his dad,
- 1:11:30Speaker 9: and we'll go that route.
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: The other way that I heard this theory today is
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: that- That he hooked.
- 1:11:34Speaker 8: Up with the sovereign chick?
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: Have you heard that? In that we missed that little
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: scene in the middle where after them kind of flirting
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: a little bit, they actually did an old school experiment,
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: and that's where we're going to get Adam is because-
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: It'll be a weird- Quill's sort of a demigod anyway.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: He is a celestial. That's how you can upgrade from
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: their perfection is to add this godlike.
- 1:11:52Speaker 9: The fact that he's not in Infinity War, that's what
- 1:11:53Speaker 9: kind of throws it all out the window for me.
- 1:11:55Speaker 8: That's what's weird.
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: Why even bring.
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: In Adam Warlock at all if you're not concerned with
- 1:12:02Speaker 9: connecting with Thanos?
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Especially if he's trying to break out and do his
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: own thing. Why do this one thing that's very tied
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: to Infinity Wars?
- 1:12:09Speaker 9: It's very strange to me.
- 1:12:10Speaker 8: I mean, it's fine.
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: That means.
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: Things will be different. You know, I mean, I've, I've
- 1:12:17Speaker 8: read a comic. I know where to come.
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: I know, I knew it wasn't going to do the
- 1:12:20Speaker 9: exact same thing as the comic.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:21Speaker 8: You know, you just, you just can't good really.
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: I mean, but I was really surprised that Adam was
- 1:12:27Speaker 9: discarded so easily. Cause like I said, I mean, this was,
- 1:12:30Speaker 9: I mean, if you can imagine this as like a
- 1:12:31Speaker 9: Batman and Joker super fight, imagine if like we decided
- 1:12:35Speaker 9: not to have Batman in it. Like Adam Warlock is
- 1:12:38Speaker 9: literally in the comic, the guy that's going around collecting people. Like, no,
- 1:12:41Speaker 9: we need to fight Thanos right now. And so it's,
- 1:12:45Speaker 9: it's just strange. I mean, I guess that's going to
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: be an Avengers. I guess Nick Fury.
- 1:12:48Speaker 8: I don't know. Like maybe Stan Lee, maybe as a watcher.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Seriously.
- 1:12:52Speaker 9: As awesome as that is, as awesome as I love
- 1:12:56Speaker 9: that that happened.
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: It's so awesome.
- 1:12:58Speaker 9: But maybe, who knows? Maybe the watchers do go, Hey, Avengers,
- 1:13:02Speaker 9: you need to be over here like right now.
- 1:13:04Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: I mean, it does leave a big weird, because I
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: thought we were more direct in where we were going
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: to go with this Infinity, but again, maybe they're taking
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: it their own weird movie direction, which again, they probably should.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: I feel like if you're already this different.
- 1:13:18Speaker 9: They did reduce it from two movies to one, so
- 1:13:19Speaker 9: they've obviously chopped it, because it was going to be.
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: Two Infinity movies.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: Is it back to one now?
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: My understanding is that phase four is now like Secret Wars,
- 1:13:29Speaker 9: is that they dropped the title and it's like, The
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: next Marvel, after Infinity Wars, the next one's like Avengers
- 1:13:34Speaker 9: colon Secret Wars or something. So that sounds like Thanos
- 1:13:38Speaker 9: is going to get wrapped up in one movie. Which,
- 1:13:41Speaker 9: when you've spent a decade and a half building them,
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: should be okay.
- 1:13:44Speaker 8: Well, that was the thing.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: I'm like, what is the first half going to end? Again,
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: I feel like dragging your feet. If we're not going
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: to get to the big finale, what's going to be
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: the last half of that first movie? I would not.
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: Be surprised if it's an hour and a half action movie.
- 1:13:59Speaker 8: I'm not kidding.
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: They admitted that that fight in Civil War was practice.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 8: They said that airport fight... Again, I feel like that's
- 1:14:06Speaker 8: the weakest part.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: That was practice. That's the one part I'm not impressed
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: with in Civil War. Oh, man.
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: I mean, it's fun.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: I love the ridiculous two-page fold-out that's going on, but
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: it has no weight to it. It's the most show-off-y, like,
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: this is what you guys came for, but I'm like, nobody...
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: They're all pulling their punches. Other than Black Panther, nobody's
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: really fighting, so it's like, it's all kind of just filler.
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: It's just them putting on this big song and dance number,
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: but I'm like... In the end, nothing gets accomplished, really.
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: It was just going on for the sake of going
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: on to bring in some new characters to do this
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: big thing. But by the end, the real fight is
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: in the end. And the real fight has weight. And
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: the real fight is fucking heavy. And I'm like, I
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: like that end fight because it has stakes and it's real.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: That airport fight is just all show. It's just song
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: and dance. It's the weak point of that movie because
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: I think the other two halves of that are a
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: great movie. It's just kind of like a shrug in
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: the middle of it. Here's what you guys think you wanted,
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: but there's not really much to it.
- 1:15:05Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: I feel like there's potential that all that could be great,
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: but they're all pulling their punches so much that it's
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: kind of like, who cares? I don't know. That was
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: my takeaway from it.
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: Yeah, we're on different sides of the line on that one.
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: I think Civil War is the greatest Marvel movie that
- 1:15:21Speaker 9: they've made. I think Captain America's trilogy could be the
- 1:15:25Speaker 9: greatest superhero trilogy ever. Of all time, including Batman movies.
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: I love those three Captain America movies.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: Winter Soldier is amazing. I feel like Winter Soldier is
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: just solid.
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: They are all the same movie. They are so interconnected.
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: Information scenes, they are so interconnected. They are so completely
- 1:15:42Speaker 9: thought out. They don't need any other movie to exist.
- 1:15:45Speaker 9: Those three movies are fantastic. Not that I don't like
- 1:15:48Speaker 9: most of the other Marvel movies too, but Those are.
- 1:15:52Speaker 8: My go-tos, though.
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: The early Iron Mans are actually really interesting because there's
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: so much character development in Stark. I almost feel like
- 1:15:58Speaker 9: with Stark, they had him develop too quick.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: Because I go back and I watch the second one.
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: Man, the second one where he has his drunk phase
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: and his breakdown and all that. And I was like,
- 1:16:09Speaker 9: maybe they did that too quick. Because it's almost like
- 1:16:11Speaker 9: he was too mature by Civil War already. Because it's interesting, again,
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: watching him again, not to deviate. But he has a
- 1:16:17Speaker 9: scene in his second movie where he's telling the government,
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: fuck you, you can't have my suits.
- 1:16:23Speaker 8: I'm Iron Man.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: Yeah. Eat a dick.
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: And then you have Civil War where he's like, we
- 1:16:27Speaker 9: need to give them everything. We need to sign up.
- 1:16:29Speaker 9: And I'm like, holy shit, he grew so much in
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: his movies.
- 1:16:32Speaker 8: All of the sides they fall on on Civil War,
- 1:16:34Speaker 8: you're like, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: They all make sense. Which side are you on? It
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: makes no sense.
- 1:16:38Speaker 8: But again, it's interesting.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: That's the dynamic in that first half that I like
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: so much is... that they all have reasons like it's
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: not just randomness you're just like oh well all right
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: you've got a point like there is a reason to
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: do this and you do kind of fall on that
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: what what do we do thing so we spun off
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: into a different movie i know but that happens in
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: marvel so um i again to to get back to
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: this one and one of the things i was more
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: impressed with than I'm always amazed at anybody who can
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: put together something different and kind of impressive in a
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: credit sequence. Oh man, all the old school cards.
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: Old school trading cards and them dancing.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Yeah, the whole centering on this giant battle and instead
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: it's like, let's go see what Groot's doing.
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: The fact that it's going on in the background.
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: Oh, you're talking about the opening. Oh man, when he
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: was asking for the tape, when he was asking for
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: the tape and it just stayed there with Groot and
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: you just hear it.
- 1:17:35Speaker 9: Going on out there giant nebula and he calls him
- 1:17:39Speaker 9: out on it i mean it was it's and they
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: keep getting knocked into frame and he's busy dancing around
- 1:17:45Speaker 9: yeah to juxtapose because it's so silly it's so light
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: and then the sad stuff would happen and it would
- 1:17:50Speaker 9: have equally as much weight like it would it would
- 1:17:53Speaker 9: still again i think i didn't expect it like i
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: had a weird conscious thought halfway in where i was
- 1:17:57Speaker 9: like if this movie tries to be emo at all
- 1:18:02Speaker 9: in the end i'm it's not going to happen.
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: I'm laughing too much. I'm enjoying this too much. And
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: it still did. I was like, okay, I take it
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: all back.
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: Like, and as much as like, if any other movie
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: tried to work in something is, I mean, let's all
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: face it.
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: They even say it in the movie, baby Groot. So
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: fucking cute.
- 1:18:19Speaker 10: Oh yeah.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: And I'm like, even to the point, yeah, we can't
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: kill him. He's too adorable. But the fact that like
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: later in the movie, when they're like, tormenting him in
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: the cage you're like oh my yeah i hate these
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: guys like you immediately just like that clip in the
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: trailer made so much more sense when he threw that
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: dude over the rail then for me having seen the
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: trailer i was happy at a time like he's gonna
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: fuck you up later i was just like that so
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: that i at least because we haven't talked much about
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: groots i'm like it is funny that like because we
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: took the muscle out of the first movie like right
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: so now it's just like before you could always just
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: like whatever you needed done, Groot could kind of do it.
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: Like, so this one was like, we don't have that now.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: Instead, he's kind of always comic relief, but like, damned
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: if it doesn't always work.
- 1:19:00Speaker 9: Like if you, he's a kid, he's a kid in
- 1:19:03Speaker 9: the family. Like literally every character nurtured him at some point.
- 1:19:06Speaker 9: Every character took him on a shoulder and, Even Drax,
- 1:19:09Speaker 9: every character took him and babied him. Like he was
- 1:19:12Speaker 9: the baby in a family.
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: Again, like if you tried to cram something that cutesy
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: in some other series that I liked, I would be
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: so annoyed. And yet it, It worked.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: It landed.
- 1:19:21Speaker 8: And, like, again, I guess points to God. It was heavy-handed,
- 1:19:23Speaker 8: but I didn't mind it.
- 1:19:25Speaker 7: Even the scene where, again, big spoiler alert, but where
- 1:19:28Speaker 7: Quill goes into his bedroom where he's, like.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: Teenage Groot. That's actually kind of funny.
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: And he's smarting off to him.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Sarcastic iron Groot.
- 1:19:40Speaker 8: I heard the word is that, like, in the third movie,
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: he's going to be monstrous.
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: He's going to be bigger and fatter than the first. Yeah, like,
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: his other form is actually, like, the old shriveled-down Groot.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: kind of old man kind of thing that now he's
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: young again so you can see the big strong group
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: and that he'll be like, I don't want to say Hulk,
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: but he's supposed to be Bigger than he was in
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: the first movie. Again, having just rewatched that first one,
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: I forgot how many times he just messes people up. Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: And you can't really injure him short of completely destroy him.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: But the rest of the time, he's just damn near
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: indestructible in a fight. So it's like, yeah, he's an
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: amazing character the way he gets worked in that first one.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: So then to have to totally change the dynamic coming
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: into the second one and still have it work but
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: be so radically different like that's that's kind of amazing
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: and and that is one of my like again like
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: points to him like storytelling like that little mirrored image
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: at the end of him handing that's why i like
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: them sharing the headphones it's like the flashback of quill
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: and his mom sharing the headphones to the baby group
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: version of that i'm just like that's enough and again
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: it's it's all about family everything comes back to them
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: being a family so it's like that it's just kind
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: of good basic story it feels like it's doing its
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: own trilogy it is and i feel like depending on
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: word they were on and bring it home in the
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: third one i feel like again james gunn is doing
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: his own thing on his own he's he's connecting the
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: dots he has.
- 1:21:04Speaker 9: To for the other guys but it really feels like
- 1:21:07Speaker 9: he wants this to go on oh yeah after phase
- 1:21:10Speaker 9: three four and five number one i think he still
- 1:21:13Speaker 9: wants guardians going.
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: On no problem with that number two it's like once
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: again points to him for almost every other, cause they
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: bring in all these other, you know, sometimes recognizable directors
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: from other mediums and other like genres. And then they're like, okay,
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: here you go. Here's your Marvel movie. And then they
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: sort of tie their hands and they don't get to
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: do much of their own thing. This is not near
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: as weird as the old James Gunn, but I still
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: feel like he seems to have more control than anybody
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: short of the our character getting kicked out of Ant-Man
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: because he still wanted too much control.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: So like, aside from that, like, I think he's found
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: that balance in between where he is doing his own
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: thing and, but it's just, he's making, and it probably
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: helps that he made them a ton of money the
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: first time.
- 1:22:00Speaker 8: I was going to say, it's probably.
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: But I mean, the other movies all made a ton
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: of money too. So I'm like the fact he's found
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: some weird way to be, I guess because the story
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: itself is a little outlying that he's like, I'm going
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: to do this. And you know, I'm going to kind of,
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: you know, keep, keep pushing this forward for you guys too,
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: but I'm going to spin it my own way along
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: the way. So I like, that's kind of impressive because
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: there's some pretty heavy names that got brought in as
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: directors in the rest of them. And again, I go
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: back to it being almost more of a Star Wars
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: scenario of like, once you're an episode number, you don't
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: stray too far.
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: You've got to stick with this.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: But these new, we're entering that same phase in Star
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: Wars of like, okay, now we've got outlined stories that
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: kind of are in the same universe, but don't have
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: to tell this one big story. And that's kind of
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: where they're falling in The Guardian. So I'm wondering now,
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: do we get other... New spinoffs that exist in that
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: universe that don't have to tie to the big story
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: that kind of get to do their own thing.
- 1:22:57Speaker 9: I would like to see, and this is a geek dreaming.
- 1:23:03Speaker 9: I would like to see someone make that deal for
- 1:23:07Speaker 9: Fantastic Four that they made with Spider-Man. Don't do an origin.
- 1:23:12Speaker 9: Just bring them in in a Guardians movie.
- 1:23:13Speaker 8: How will we ever know?
- 1:23:14Speaker 9: Just have them run into them in a Guardians movie
- 1:23:17Speaker 9: and go with it, and then you can have Doom.
- 1:23:20Speaker 9: Because Doom needs to, at some point in one of
- 1:23:23Speaker 9: these phases, Doom has to be the big bad. And
- 1:23:26Speaker 9: we have to get the Fantastic Four back.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: It's fallen on its face several times now. So you
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: think whatever licensing issues.
- 1:23:34Speaker 9: I think technically Thing is, I think right now in
- 1:23:36Speaker 9: the comic, Thing is in the Guardians. I want to
- 1:23:39Speaker 9: say that Venom, Thing, Gamora. Peter, I think the fifth
- 1:23:46Speaker 9: one is done. No, because I think Rocket and Groot
- 1:23:48Speaker 9: are off doing their own thing. So I think the
- 1:23:50Speaker 9: team right now, anyway, point being, Thing is actually in it.
- 1:23:53Speaker 9: It would make complete sense to use the Guardians as
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: a way to bring in the Fantastic Four if you
- 1:23:59Speaker 9: can get that contract that you.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: Got with Spider-Man.
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: Did you guys get the new Spider-Man trailer too? I
- 1:24:04Speaker 9: got like a new longer one I hadn't seen before.
- 1:24:06Speaker 8: Yeah, the homecoming.
- 1:24:07Speaker 9: Yeah, like it was new to me. It was like
- 1:24:10Speaker 9: it has some stuff I hadn't seen in the previous trailer.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: I saw the new, not even a title on the
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: new poster of him just kind of hanging out, listening
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: to his headphones.
- 1:24:22Speaker 8: Just walking or whatever. Yeah, I was like, that's, again,
- 1:24:25Speaker 8: a little.
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: Artsier than I expected from these big studios. Because it
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: doesn't even say the title of their movie, which is
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: usually marketing 101 for them. Shove it down their throat.
- 1:24:34Speaker 7: Speaking of shoving it down their throat, I never thought
- 1:24:36Speaker 7: I'd hear myself say this, but I'm getting tired of Spider-Man.
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: I mean, I, I'm down at least one. Like I
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: still was disconnected from that last run.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: Like I, I watched the first one because we did
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: an episode on it and I had to, I didn't
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: even watch the second one and I didn't like the
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: first one. So it's like, I still was disconnected that
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: I feel like it's been so long since Spider-Man two,
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: which was the, again, I, I think I saw the
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: third one on like cable one day, like TBS or
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: something like that. a weird chopped up version of it.
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: And I was still like, Oh my God, what the hell?
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: Like as much bad things as I'd heard about, I'm like, no, no,
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: they're right. There's a whole lot of bullshit going on.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: Like Rami, his hands were off the wheel at that point.
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: So not really his fault, but yeah. So it's like,
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: it's been so long since Spider-Man two that like, I
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: kind of would love to see it come back and
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: be good again. Like, and that little tease in civil
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: war again, he's in the scene that I have issues with,
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: but I'm like, those moments are great. Like if he
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: can do that for a full movie, like, And work
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: in Tony Stark, which obviously is pretty heavily going to
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: be worked in. I think that'll be... It should be great.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: I have faith in.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: It, at least.
- 1:25:46Speaker 8: Tony part.
- 1:25:47Speaker 9: I get the impression from the trailer, you probably saw
- 1:25:49Speaker 9: all the Tony stuff. I think he'll get the suit
- 1:25:51Speaker 9: in the very beginning. I think he'll fuck up in
- 1:25:53Speaker 9: the very beginning. I think he'll take it, and then
- 1:25:54Speaker 9: I think the movie.
- 1:25:55Speaker 8: Will be him.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: I mean, in a way, it probably should be.
- 1:25:58Speaker 8: They shouldn't shove it in too much. And that's the thing.
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: I thought, did you look at that poster? Because that's
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: the thing. I was standing there for a minute waiting
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: in line to get in to this movie. And I
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: was just like, oh, yeah, it doesn't even say. But
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: it's obviously Spider-Man in his suits. I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: that skyline. The main focus of it in the background
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: is the Avengers building. The Tony Stark building with the
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: A on it is the main center of that poster.
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: They show it pretty prominently in the trailer.
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: So I'm like, are they just teasing that that's where
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: we're going to go with him? Or is it really
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: that Tony Stark's going to be in this movie a lot?
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: I'm not 100% sure.
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: He's going to be in Infinity War, so I know
- 1:26:35Speaker 9: he'll be connected enough.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: He's definitely coming in later, but I just wonder if
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: they're starting early with like, we got Tony on, he's
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: not going to do any solo movies, so let's cram
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: him into these as much as we can. He wants to.
- 1:26:45Speaker 8: That's what I think is ironic. I thought he wanted
- 1:26:47Speaker 8: to get out of the solo.
- 1:26:48Speaker 9: I heard he took it back. I heard he was like,
- 1:26:50Speaker 9: three movies and I'm done. And then everything just kept
- 1:26:53Speaker 9: continuing to blow up. And I heard now that he's like, well,
- 1:26:55Speaker 9: I mean.
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: I could do a fourth movie. I mean, I have
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: no problems with- You don't have to twist my arm. Yeah,
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: I think- But I think they're like, what would we
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: do with you now? Your character in general, like, you
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: fucked up Mandarin. You could have did Mandarin. I still
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: like it.
- 1:27:09Speaker 9: That's my grumpiest part about three. That's what, honestly, that's
- 1:27:12Speaker 9: what ruined the movie.
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: I just think that's- When he came out of the
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: bathroom- As the actor, I deflated so much in the
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: theater that I was just like, oh my God. But again,
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: that's a comic book geek thing versus just watching the movie.
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: Can you imagine if it was the Joker?
- 1:27:26Speaker 9: Again, not to keep going back to Batman, but if
- 1:27:28Speaker 9: the Joker was this badass the first third and then
- 1:27:31Speaker 9: he comes out pooping and hooking up, doing coke with
- 1:27:35Speaker 9: his hookers, and you're like, what?
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: But, I mean, that's the only other time I'll say
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: that was the gutsiest move I've seen anybody make in
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Marvel up until that point.
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: Like, the fact that that's... They swerved so many geeks.
- 1:27:47Speaker 8: We thought.
- 1:27:47Speaker 9: Because that is, honestly, that's Iron Man's Joker. That's his
- 1:27:51Speaker 9: classic villain, his Mandarin.
- 1:27:52Speaker 14: Which, I mean.
- 1:27:53Speaker 8: So, to completely swerve it.
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: And you'd even built it up because you talked about
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: the Ten Rings in the previous movies. Yeah. So, it
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: wasn't like you didn't act like it was leading to it.
- 1:28:01Speaker 8: And the fact that they didn't blow that.
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: Like, they built up that trailer as... mandarin's coming to
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: destroy you tony stark scenes right and i was just
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: like mansion blowing up on the class i mean that
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: i again i'm still kind of amazed with three because
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: i think it once again, the villain stuff that's going
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: on with, with what's his face at the end is
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: so not impressive, but the Tony Stark angle and like
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: all the other stuff and the Mandarin fake out is
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: so impressive.
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: Him with the kid was weird. I think that's what
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: I liked him again.
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: I think it's just a good.
- 1:28:33Speaker 8: Dynamic time with the kid.
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: That i was like not in the suit yeah yeah
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: it's a different take on there it's it's once again
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: it's one.
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: Of the so much money for that last part because
- 1:28:42Speaker 9: you have like 40 suits flying around fighting each other they.
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: Had to save up like we gotta use it all
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: at the end there but again that's one of the
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: few times they handed it to another weird outline director
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: and we're just like here we're gonna let you do
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: i'm still amazed that they let him like That they
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: even gave him a movie and that they let him
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: do all the stuff that he does that's so unconventional.
- 1:29:01Speaker 9: There's so many things in that third movie that seem
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: like he goes counter.
- 1:29:04Speaker 8: To the bigger story.
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: In a way, I love.
- 1:29:06Speaker 9: Him having the arc reactor taken out of his chest,
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: which didn't even get explained, I don't believe. Because in
- 1:29:11Speaker 9: Civil War, he's just there.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: He's just stunning.
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: And it's like, I thought you took that out of
- 1:29:15Speaker 9: your chest in the last movie. Like, I didn't understand
- 1:29:17Speaker 9: because I was like, is Iron Man dead?
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: Like, did.
- 1:29:20Speaker 9: That's what confused me at the end of that movie, though. Legit,
- 1:29:22Speaker 9: I was like, if he doesn't have an arc reactor, he.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: Can't power the suit.
- 1:29:26Speaker 9: So I assumed that him and Pepper splitting up was
- 1:29:30Speaker 9: him putting the arc reactor back in. I felt like
- 1:29:33Speaker 9: there was something unspoken I was supposed to get in
- 1:29:35Speaker 9: Civil War that I didn't. Skipped over that little part there.
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: I was like, why are you still Iron Man? Is
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: Pepper being gone? Like, was that what it was? Like,
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: you made the choice to be Iron Man, and she's like,
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: I'm done with you.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: And, like, I want, that's one of those, I'm like,
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: I've always wondered, is that part of the grand story
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: that they actually wanted to tell, or could they just
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: not get Gwyneth back? Was she just like, ugh, three
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: and I'm out, I'm done. So, because the fact that not, like,
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: I guess I'm not surprised they didn't get Portman to
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: come back for any of the Avengers stuff, but.
- 1:30:03Speaker 8: Gwyneth didn't even come back in for that second Avengers.
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: So I'm just like, was she just done with that? Like,
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: I do kind of wonder if that was just more
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: of a real world issue that they took care of
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: in the story. But again, it adds to Tony's weird
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: complexity and his sabotaging himself along the way. Like he's
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: always had that tendency, even when he's made his turn,
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: he still continues to kind of screw himself over most times. So, like,
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: it adds to that.
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: It kind of works with that.
- 1:30:30Speaker 9: He's his own worst enemy at all times. He's his
- 1:30:32Speaker 9: own worst enemy.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: And, like, the one thing that sort of grounded him
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: and made him work was the Pepper thing. So once
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: that's gone, now it gives him license to go back
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: off and do a bunch of weird stuff.
- 1:30:43Speaker 9: I feel like, again, I feel like we're deviant, but
- 1:30:46Speaker 9: I feel like, you know, for Civil War, that's why
- 1:30:48Speaker 9: I kind of was okay. When the comics were happening,
- 1:30:51Speaker 9: I hated Iron Man. Like, that story arc made me
- 1:30:54Speaker 9: hate Iron Man. And I'd liked him before him. It
- 1:30:56Speaker 9: was like just where they're going to make him like
- 1:30:58Speaker 9: this government, the comic.
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:31:00Speaker 9: Where he was just a government lapdog. I was just like, man,
- 1:31:02Speaker 9: I just, I can't get behind you at all. In
- 1:31:03Speaker 9: the movie, I found myself still feeling like he was
- 1:31:06Speaker 9: a bad guy, but understanding the mom part definitely brought
- 1:31:09Speaker 9: it home. I was like, I didn't even feel like
- 1:31:11Speaker 9: it was a bad guy. The other shit doesn't even
- 1:31:13Speaker 9: matter right now. That's just personal.
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: I didn't even feel like it was a bad guy.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: It was one of those, like, it worked because I
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: was on both their sides. I'm like, I don't know
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: where to fall. I think his movies lead to that chaos.
- 1:31:23Speaker 9: If you watch his movies, the second movie, he's the
- 1:31:25Speaker 9: raging alcoholic getting control. This third one is like his PTSD. Like,
- 1:31:29Speaker 9: after Avengers, he's fucked up. And Civil War, now Pepper's left.
- 1:31:33Speaker 9: So I get that it, for me, allowed me as
- 1:31:36Speaker 9: a geek to still like him.
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: Because I was like.
- 1:31:38Speaker 8: you're in a really bad place in your life right now.
- 1:31:40Speaker 9: You're not making good logical decisions. Everything stable in your
- 1:31:44Speaker 9: life is unstable. So I get it that you're reacting
- 1:31:47Speaker 9: emotionally to this. It allowed me to go, I don't
- 1:31:50Speaker 9: hate the Iron Man in the movie verse as much
- 1:31:53Speaker 9: as I did Iron Man in the comic verse.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: Which again, I like that it does its own thing.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: I want it to be. be its own separate version,
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: not just a bad transfer from print. I just wanted
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: to stay close.
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: I don't need it exact. It's never going to happen.
- 1:32:08Speaker 9: I've read too many books and watched too many movies
- 1:32:09Speaker 9: and books to ever, ever, ever think you're going to
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: get exact. And even in weird times when it is exact,
- 1:32:14Speaker 9: like Watchmen, it still doesn't work sometimes.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: Again, I think there are improvements that can be made.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: That change to the end of Watchmen is smart. It
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: makes sense.
- 1:32:24Speaker 8: It makes the story work better.
- 1:32:26Speaker 9: Watchmen, the tone is what bugged me more in changing
- 1:32:28Speaker 9: the ending. Because they're anti-heroes and they were directed as heroes.
- 1:32:33Speaker 8: You completely missed the point.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Yeah, he directed it as though these are the biggest
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: cool superheroes ever. He bought into their bullshit. Yeah. you're
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: supposed to be watching this and like it's, it's breaking
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: down superhero stuff. And he just shot it like it.
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: Was the coolest superhero movie ever.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: So once again, he missed the point.
- 1:32:52Speaker 9: They are talking about a TV series now too. And
- 1:32:54Speaker 9: I'm like, just quit it. You guys don't get it.
- 1:32:56Speaker 9: You guys don't understand anti-hero. You just don't get it.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Let it go.
- 1:33:00Speaker 9: But maybe if you get Alan Moore, I'm sure he
- 1:33:02Speaker 9: could give you an anti-hero, but you probably wouldn't like
- 1:33:04Speaker 9: what he'd give you. So how about all the musicians
- 1:33:08Speaker 9: in this movie? Jimmy Aaron was one of the Ravagers.
- 1:33:11Speaker 9: Rob Zombie was a Ravager.
- 1:33:13Speaker 8: I think, wasn't he there last? His voice was in
- 1:33:16Speaker 8: the last. I don't think I even noticed that until
- 1:33:17Speaker 8: it got listed. Miley Cyrus was the voice of the
- 1:33:19Speaker 8: robot head? She's the robot in the end there.
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:33:23Speaker 9: And I heard apparently James Gunn took to her and
- 1:33:25Speaker 9: wants her to be in the next movie.
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: So we might get a little Dakota.
- 1:33:30Speaker 9: Was she a big deal in the 90s? That would
- 1:33:32Speaker 9: make sense with the 90s thing.
- 1:33:33Speaker 8: No, she really hadn't. Was she a Disney kid in
- 1:33:37Speaker 8: the 90s, though? No, but that was 2000s. She's too young.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: Yeah, she was not even that long ago, really, because, again,
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: she's still a kid, so that wouldn't fit the 90s thing, actually.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: Now, if you brought Billy Ray in, that's what we need.
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: Bring in the Cyrus, which I think he wants to
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: change his name to. That was a joke over the
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: weekend of him changing it to Cyrus.
- 1:34:03Speaker 8: Just Cyrus? That's what I heard. Or be Cyrus.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: Is it Billy Cyrus or just Cyrus?
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: Cyrus.
- 1:34:11Speaker 8: I'm making that part up, I think.
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: I don't know. I barely secondhand heard a version of
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: this and went, why is he talking to anyone? You're
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: Billy Ray Cyrus. Just stop. The greatest accomplishment you had
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: was spawning children that are making way more money than
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: you ever did.
- 1:34:30Speaker 12: Oh, Lord.
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: So, fatherhood.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: That's what we're coming back to.
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: You remember when that was the big deal? It wasn't, oh,
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: it's Miley Cyrus. It's Billy Ray's daughter.
- 1:34:42Speaker 8: This is Billy Ray's kid.
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: Oh, by the way, she has a music career and
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: a TV show. But yeah, it came back around. On
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: the fatherhood tie-in, we really haven't discussed Kurt Russell at all.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: What is your take on Kurt? I mean, it's perfect casting, really.
- 1:34:57Speaker 10: It was.
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: You need somebody like that to be able to pull
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: this off.
- 1:35:01Speaker 10: I was.
- 1:35:04Speaker 7: Ecstatic when I saw him in the beginning of the movie,
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: but I couldn't figure out why later, if he's this
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: celestial being, why he aged at all if he's been
- 1:35:14Speaker 7: around for millions of years.
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: If he just makes his body as is, why make
- 1:35:17Speaker 8: the gray?
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: Because he looks cool with that gray being. And he does.
- 1:35:20Speaker 10: He does.
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: There's no doubt about it.
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: I think I was easily as impressed as almost anything
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: I've seen is how seamlessly they worked in young Kurt
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: Russell there.
- 1:35:32Speaker 8: I kept looking at.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: It, waiting to see bad CG cracks. And I was
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: just like, damn, this looks good. It's as close as
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: the young Robert Downey Jr.
- 1:35:42Speaker 8: That was amazing.
- 1:35:43Speaker 7: How do we know he doesn't just look like that?
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: And they made him look older.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: That's why Goldie sticks around. I felt like it was
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: a little awkward.
- 1:35:54Speaker 9: I thought him singing in the car was a little weird.
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: It felt a little, I don't know, just weird to me.
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: Well, I mean, at that point, we're not even sure
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: what's going on. So I don't think I was even like,
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: I'm just like, okay, I'm assuming this is where we're going,
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: but like, I don't know. He still seemed awkward, which
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: I guess works in the big picture. Like the, the,
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: whoever the, the mom actress is, is actually pretty damn convincing.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: Like I liked her and like, it is one of those,
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: like you can see why she becomes this important figure
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: and like why she means so much to Peter. So
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: I like, they do in this really short span of
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: time tie it to why she's important to both Peter
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: and him so much so that like he's bedded women
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: all over the universe and like this is the one
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: that like for some reason he still like had feelings
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: for all these years later so Like, she better be
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: pretty damn impressive.
- 1:36:46Speaker 8: So, I don't know.
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: I feel like she works.
- 1:36:47Speaker 8: He's so AI, though. He felt like a robot AI.
- 1:36:50Speaker 8: He didn't feel human.
- 1:36:50Speaker 9: It was like, even with him saying all these emotional things,
- 1:36:53Speaker 9: it came down to, but.
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: We had to cut her loose. So, like, shouldn't he?
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: I don't know. Shouldn't he come off really awkward, assuming
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: he just showed up on the planet?
- 1:37:02Speaker 9: If they get into him in the comics, Celestials get
- 1:37:04Speaker 9: really weird. Because you find that everything has an embodiment.
- 1:37:08Speaker 8: Like, time. You can talk to time. There will be
- 1:37:11Speaker 8: this weird... amalgamation of clocks.
- 1:37:13Speaker 9: And stuff and it'll be it'll represent so you get
- 1:37:15Speaker 9: these weird things in the comics with celestials or like
- 1:37:18Speaker 9: the essences of things so it's like i don't even
- 1:37:22Speaker 9: know where i was going with that but just he's
- 1:37:23Speaker 9: weird godlike and he formed himself in this way but
- 1:37:27Speaker 9: he's not like he said i think he's not mortal
- 1:37:29Speaker 9: he's not human he doesn't understand us in the same
- 1:37:32Speaker 9: ways and he always just felt it just came to
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: me more like a computer trying to act like a
- 1:37:36Speaker 9: human and Even when he was trying to connect, like,
- 1:37:39Speaker 9: I loved her, she was so great, but, you know,
- 1:37:41Speaker 9: I had to kill her. And the fact that he
- 1:37:42Speaker 9: could be so cold getting to that point, it was like,
- 1:37:45Speaker 9: you don't have empathy. You don't have empathy.
- 1:37:48Speaker 13: Which.
- 1:37:48Speaker 9: You're talking about someone you loved. Again, it's part of...
- 1:37:50Speaker 9: And you're just so easy, like, so.
- 1:37:51Speaker 8: I had to put a tumor in her head.
- 1:37:53Speaker 9: It's like, that's not.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: But if you were God, wouldn't you... I mean, again,
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: if you're that removed and above everything... Couldn't he just
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: recreate her? Couldn't he recreate her? You would think so.
- 1:38:03Speaker 8: Why couldn't he make a version of her?
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: Just bring her with him and, yeah, just.
- 1:38:07Speaker 9: I mean, there was so many other things other than
- 1:38:08Speaker 9: kill him. Like I said, I'm not breaking it down like, oh,
- 1:38:10Speaker 9: that was, you know.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: Well, I mean, it's.
- 1:38:12Speaker 9: It breaks the plot. But it was just him. He
- 1:38:14Speaker 9: felt to me kind of like watching 2000. I felt
- 1:38:17Speaker 9: like he was having an argument with a super smart computer.
- 1:38:19Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:38:20Speaker 9: That didn't quite understand emotion, even though it thought it did.
- 1:38:23Speaker 8: To me, that part.
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: And it's just, I guess, part of the overall storytelling
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: in general, because I've had that with so many. wrap
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: ups in any movie that we create these huge characters
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: that are more or less gods and are super all powerful.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: And then at the end, we destroy them anyway. I'm like, well,
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: why build it up like they're super all powerful gods
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: in quotes that then we find a relative. I mean,
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: it's a lot of trouble for our characters, but our
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: characters are pretty much mortal. So the fact that this
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: band of misfits can just put together a plan and
- 1:38:55Speaker 4: take out what is essentially a god like. i don't
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: know i feel like that's always a so many movies
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: of all types of sci-fi and comic book and everything
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: like we build up these huge things that are supposed
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: to be all powerful and then we still find a
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: way to dispose of them relatively easily so i don't
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: know in two hours it's yeah i think it's just
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: a weird but again i'm like i don't know how
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: you tell that story otherwise like he has to be
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: a somewhat immortal to make peter you know it was
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: just a strange choice.
- 1:39:23Speaker 9: In general you didn't have to do ego the living
- 1:39:25Speaker 9: planet at all yeah because even in a comment that's
- 1:39:27Speaker 9: not his actual dad we still haven't even done his
- 1:39:29Speaker 9: actual dad chosen not to but it was that's what
- 1:39:32Speaker 9: just struck me as i guess more of you know
- 1:39:35Speaker 9: what was it about ego that stood out so much
- 1:39:38Speaker 9: to james gunn that he felt not only the need
- 1:39:40Speaker 9: to put him in a movie but to make him
- 1:39:41Speaker 9: his dad to find a way to plot you know
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: actually made him his dad too it was like There's
- 1:39:45Speaker 9: a lot of weird.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:39:48Speaker 8: He's like, what can I do?
- 1:39:50Speaker 9: I thought it was cool seeing Sylvester Stallone in this way.
- 1:39:52Speaker 9: That's what's so.
- 1:39:54Speaker 9: There's something about these movies that almost... make it like
- 1:39:58Speaker 9: okay to have a fresh start like you could grab
- 1:40:01Speaker 9: anybody out there put them in some some goofy space
- 1:40:04Speaker 9: gear and i'll probably dig them in.
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: Guardian that was my again the jump to the the
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: stallone thing i'm like so by the end when he's
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: got this team together and he's like let's go steal
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: some shit like i was like well i mean not
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: even that i'm like you have two squads at a
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: guardian i was like you have the original and you
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: have the new one can we just get side movies
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: with this group of crazy.
- 1:40:22Speaker 9: Characters playing a little asian like yeah and being.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: Raped you have i'm like you've got the cast like
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: this well why would you not.
- 1:40:30Speaker 7: Showed up early in the movie i was like all
- 1:40:32Speaker 7: right now you got a movie and then you never
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: see him again and i know that they're just introducing
- 1:40:38Speaker 7: that character for the third film but i still feel
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: like it's when they do stuff like that it's kind
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: of disappointing kind of a waste you know.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Well i mean i i just like that was my
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: thing i was like they set up that little teaser
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: at the end there i was like can we just
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: break off and have a whole movie with these guys?
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: I kind of wanted to like, it's such a weird
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: band of characters. I'm like, I want a whole movie
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: of that. And I don't want it.
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: To have to be tied to all the rest of this. Like,
- 1:41:03Speaker 8: so I don't know.
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: I'm sure they'll just make it specifically to tie into
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: something in three.
- 1:41:08Speaker 8: Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:41:09Speaker 9: When I, when I'm saying, I think James Gunn's trying
- 1:41:11Speaker 9: to do his own thing. I think I'm not saying
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: it's something he's like outright told the corporate people, but
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: I think in his head, he's like, if, we make
- 1:41:19Speaker 9: this good enough and we put enough interesting people in here.
- 1:41:22Speaker 9: they might consciously just break it off and be like, look,
- 1:41:25Speaker 9: Guardians over here, we can do all these space movies
- 1:41:28Speaker 9: with all the stuff from space, and they don't have
- 1:41:31Speaker 9: to connect to phase four and five at all.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: I think just because of the response he got from
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: that first one, because I, and we may have brought
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: this up at the time, but I mean, they kept
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: saying it, and specifically about kids, with little kids, they
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: were like, this is their Star Wars.
- 1:41:46Speaker 10: Right, yeah.
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: And I was like, and at the time, I was like,
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: oh God, that was hard to take, but at the
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: same time, I'm like, well, Yeah, and then I was like,
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: if it becomes a running thing, it can be.
- 1:41:57Speaker 8: It really is so much.
- 1:41:58Speaker 9: Where does this trilogy go? It makes me wonder, what's
- 1:42:01Speaker 9: the third movie going to be? If the third movie
- 1:42:03Speaker 9: lands really well, I mean, what's to say? It doesn't
- 1:42:06Speaker 9: stand on its own.
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: But also because, like you were saying earlier, with the
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: fact that this space version, I mean, we get a
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: little of it in the rest of the Marvel stuff,
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: but this Guardians space universe is so... its own that
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: I really do feel like it could exist. Like it
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: creates his own place that all these crazy things take
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: place in. And I feel like it could detach and
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: be its own thing.
- 1:42:29Speaker 8: And we could have a.
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: Series down the line and spin off theories that are
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: just based out of this timeline and this story arc,
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: more or less.
- 1:42:38Speaker 8: Well, and Dr.
- 1:42:39Speaker 10: Strange.
- 1:42:39Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:42:39Speaker 9: I mean, just, you know, again, the comics get really
- 1:42:43Speaker 9: weird when you get into mystical stuff and they get
- 1:42:44Speaker 9: really weird when you get out into the high space stuff,
- 1:42:47Speaker 9: put it all together. Like, after whatever happens when infinity
- 1:42:51Speaker 9: war used Dr. Strange as another narrator, another MacGuffin to
- 1:42:55Speaker 9: go out into space and do stuff, which.
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: That is the tie into this one. Cause that original,
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: that guy in the lineup was alone. There becomes the
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: new time Lord or whatever he is in the takes
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: over for Dr. Strange afterwards. Yeah.
- 1:43:08Speaker 8: The red dude.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:09Speaker 9: He's like after, after strange goes away, that sound is
- 1:43:14Speaker 9: the one that gets, gets the cloak and he becomes
- 1:43:17Speaker 9: the new takes over.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: So, I mean, that's, Again, they've got their tie-in there
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: if they want to do that kind of stuff.
- 1:43:22Speaker 8: Well, and they already kind of did it, too.
- 1:43:23Speaker 9: That creature in the beginning, they said, was from another dimension.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:27Speaker 9: So you are still doing... And when the dude that
- 1:43:30Speaker 9: we just talked about, like, did his little wave or whatever,
- 1:43:32Speaker 9: he did the magical seal thing with the hands on it. So,
- 1:43:35Speaker 9: I mean, you know, you're already... Like I said, they're
- 1:43:37Speaker 9: already kind of interconnecting some stuff that could easily just
- 1:43:40Speaker 9: break off. And like, obviously you can drop in.
- 1:43:43Speaker 8: I mean, that's what comics do all the time. If Dr.
- 1:43:45Speaker 9: Strange shows up at Stark Tower, it's not like everyone's like,
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: get the fuck out of here. You know, I mean,
- 1:43:49Speaker 9: it's okay if the stuff peppers in down the line,
- 1:43:52Speaker 9: but just don't make it so integral. After, I think
- 1:43:55Speaker 9: even the corporate people, I think in their heads, they're like,
- 1:43:58Speaker 9: fuck this phase shit, man. Like there's no reason why
- 1:44:02Speaker 9: we had to go four phases deep with this story.
- 1:44:05Speaker 9: I think after this, you won't see decade long Thanos arcs.
- 1:44:09Speaker 9: It'll be like, let's keep this a bit more tight
- 1:44:11Speaker 9: knit and not have to dedicate 10 to 15 for
- 1:44:14Speaker 9: each story arc. Even if it's going to be, maybe
- 1:44:17Speaker 9: if they get X-Men, they would do that. Make some
- 1:44:19Speaker 9: big art from some from X-Men. But right now with
- 1:44:21Speaker 9: Avengers and stuff, I would have much rather seen to
- 1:44:24Speaker 9: go back to our earlier discussions. Like, maybe if you
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: would have took your time, but Ultron and made it
- 1:44:29Speaker 9: two movies or something, it could have really landed and
- 1:44:31Speaker 9: been really good instead of just a stepping stone in
- 1:44:34Speaker 9: your Thanos project. So you're, you're going to lose too
- 1:44:37Speaker 9: many villains as fodder for Thanos.
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: It is all about pacing. Like that's, that's what I
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: keep coming back to with all these. It's like, you
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: can't take something that's a bigger story and then cram
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: it into one movie or take something that's a relatively
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: small story and stretch it out into 15 episodes. Like,
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: You can't make a 15-hour movie that needs to be
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: an hour and a half. It's all about figuring out
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: the right pacing for what story you're trying to tell.
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: And they are making these calls along the way that
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: some of them work, but there are ways that it
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: could have gone.
- 1:45:09Speaker 9: It's much more entertaining this way. For me, I find
- 1:45:14Speaker 9: the movies much more entertaining than Infinity War comics. Or
- 1:45:17Speaker 9: Infinity Gauntlet. There's a lot of Infinity stuff. Infinity Gauntlet.
- 1:45:20Speaker 9: Because in a comic, it's literally just It's just Thanos
- 1:45:23Speaker 9: going around collecting rocks.
- 1:45:25Speaker 8: Like, legit.
- 1:45:26Speaker 9: It's not like he barely has to fight for any
- 1:45:28Speaker 9: of them. And then it's like, well, once he has it,
- 1:45:31Speaker 9: then it's like everyone comes to him. That would be
- 1:45:34Speaker 9: a terrible movie. Like, having Thanos going around collecting stones
- 1:45:38Speaker 9: and then everyone showing up to fight him at the
- 1:45:40Speaker 9: end and be like, what? So, I mean, this is
- 1:45:42Speaker 9: a much better way. You're dropping the stones and all
- 1:45:46Speaker 9: these other people's storylines, you know, hinting at this big
- 1:45:48Speaker 9: overarching villain, you know, that's coming. It's like, much more
- 1:45:52Speaker 9: entertaining this.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: Way I think so much of this also again I
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: just didn't want to we've not touched on a lot
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: of the cast but I'm like just our regulars like
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: I'm so impressed with how good all of them are
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: with these characters and how impressively they like hone in
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: on who the character themselves is but still give impressive
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: performances and behind tons of makeup through tons of CG
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: tinting and God knows what other stuff.
- 1:46:22Speaker 8: They've done to themselves.
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: Contacts.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: And I'm just, yeah, I'm just like the fact that,
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: that Zaldana still like delivers, like she's so good. Like
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: the Dave Bautista or whatever his name is. Like he's
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: so good. Like for somebody I didn't know that much
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: about beforehand, cause I hadn't watched him in his other life.
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: And I'm just like, he's a pretty damn good actor. Like,
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: Not that you're not acting in that job, but, like,
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: it's a different type of performance that he's now doing.
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: And I'm like, he's really got it. Like, you know,
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: I kind of knew Peter was going to be, you know,
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: you're getting somebody that's charismatic.
- 1:46:55Speaker 7: The fact that I don't automatically think Bradley Cooper... every
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: time Rocket speaks.
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:47:00Speaker 8: I don't even think about it most of the time.
- 1:47:03Speaker 7: Because a lot of those roles, like the Hellboy, every
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: time what's-his-name spoke, you're like, oh, it's Niles from Frasier.
- 1:47:11Speaker 7: I don't get that.
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: Only in the first one.
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: Then our beloved Doug took over.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: Or even, is it Karen Gillian? Who's the one?
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: Nebula?
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: Yeah, Nebula.
- 1:47:26Speaker 9: I think she could tone it down a little. Just
- 1:47:29Speaker 9: because she always has that real intense... Maybe that's just
- 1:47:32Speaker 9: supposed to be how she talks. She always seems really
- 1:47:35Speaker 9: intense when she speaks.
- 1:47:37Speaker 8: I feel like that.
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: I don't know. Again, I get so much more out
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: of her this movie that I'm like, she's just so
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: messed up. It's been so abused the entirety.
- 1:47:48Speaker 12: Of her life.
- 1:47:49Speaker 8: I thought it was a good drop on Thanos. Because again,
- 1:47:51Speaker 8: to not mention him at all.
- 1:47:53Speaker 9: And again, I don't even know who this would, if
- 1:47:56Speaker 9: you haven't watched the movies, it wouldn't even like matter.
- 1:47:57Speaker 9: But it's like, even with everything you have on Thanos,
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: you still don't really know why he's bad.
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:48:03Speaker 8: I mean, you kind of get that he's a jerk.
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? But it's like, they haven't
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: done anything that makes him any worse than anything else
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: we've seen. So to hear that like he ripped off
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: her arm and her eye, it's like, finally, we're getting
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: some hints at why he is such an asshole. And
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: these kids that are supposed to be sisters that have
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: been raped. raised together with all these other- They're.
- 1:48:21Speaker 8: Supposed to fight each other to death.
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: And just made them fight each other. And like, if
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: you lose, I'm going to beat the hell out of
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: you and make you better and then try to get
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: you to kill her. And like, it just, it's so
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: weird and twisted that like, again, it makes him- seem
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: like the villain that i guess he's supposed to be
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: which we didn't really have.
- 1:48:39Speaker 7: Before that 30 seconds where she's explaining yeah you know
- 1:48:44Speaker 7: my whole life i was supposed to fight you and
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: every time i lost this happened i mean that summed
- 1:48:49Speaker 7: up so much about that character that you know in
- 1:48:54Speaker 7: a lot of movies they take the whole movie to
- 1:48:56Speaker 7: explain why oh this is why i hate my sister.
- 1:48:58Speaker 9: Or whatever yeah i would have liked a little flashback
- 1:49:00Speaker 9: there Like, while she's talking, just some shot of, like,
- 1:49:03Speaker 9: maybe them fighting as kids and maybe, like, him, like,
- 1:49:07Speaker 9: looming over Nick. Something to kind of, like, just to
- 1:49:09Speaker 9: visually connect, like, Thanos people. Like, she said Thanos. Thanos
- 1:49:13Speaker 9: is her dad. Thanos is the one that did this
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: to her. Remember that guy.
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: Well, and that's, again, like, points to her because that's
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: the thing. This time looking so much at, like, how
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: much stuff she's in. Like, she is never not completely
- 1:49:27Speaker 4: head to toe. Either actually in latex or CG or whatever.
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: There is not a moment that she's not behind some
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: sort of effect trying to convey this stuff.
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: Is she still shaving her head?
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: Because I know she shaved her head for the first movie.
- 1:49:41Speaker 9: Does she shave her head every movie?
- 1:49:42Speaker 8: She's got a lot of screen time on this.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: So I'm like, I would guess she'd had to. But again, just.
- 1:49:47Speaker 8: Points to her because.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: this is a hell of a performance and like so
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: much physically that she's had to put into this that like.
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: I think she will have no problem finding something to
- 1:49:56Speaker 9: do after these guardians movies. I think that she might
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: get a little bit of that.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: Kind of the best thing is like to break out of,
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: cause it's rare that anybody comes out of like something
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: that's that identifiable in a weird sci-fi fantasy world to
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: break out and do something else. Like it's rare that anybody,
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: especially the doctor who world, like, right. When else do
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: any of them do anything that's outside of that?
- 1:50:18Speaker 9: It would be weird if she can meet Mr. Purple,
- 1:50:21Speaker 9: but I guess that can't.
- 1:50:22Speaker 8: Really happen now. But I mean, I feel like.
- 1:50:24Speaker 9: They both turned into bad guys in this world, didn't they?
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: Once she's done with this, I feel like she's going
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: to have no problem. I loved Oculus.
- 1:50:31Speaker 9: I was going to say Scarlett Johansson. I think she's
- 1:50:33Speaker 9: going to be the female action somebody.
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: She's going to have no problem.
- 1:50:36Speaker 9: She's drop dead gorgeous too, so you have no problem
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: using her in anything.
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: Hiding that completely in this movie. You could be working
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: that as... As this is what I'm going to be
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: to be a big movie star. I'm going to be
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: super sexy. And I'm like, no, your head shaved. You're
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: a weird color. You've got a fake eye. Like, you know,
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: everything is like against her and like she still delivers.
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: So it's like it's it's impressive that all of these
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: actors are like fighting their way through what should be
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: killing this like character development. And yet it all comes
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: through in this movie. I mean, even Rocket, for God's sakes,
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: like I'm buying like, again, that second half, like back
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: to him not being Bradley Cooper. I'm like, there's some
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: key like voice acting moments that like could go wrong.
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: And like, you're buying the voice acting and the CG
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: looks good enough now that like, you're not just laughing
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: at the fact that this is a raccoon, but like,
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: I don't know. It's, it's impressive on so many levels
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: that I'm, yeah, I'm just kind of impressed with james
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: gunn and everything he's done in this.
- 1:51:38Speaker 9: Thing yeah production wise it's i mean i'm at the
- 1:51:41Speaker 9: point you know i don't even feel like i have
- 1:51:45Speaker 9: to say this stuff like oh it looks great sounds
- 1:51:48Speaker 9: great and all this stuff like it's just movies today
- 1:51:50Speaker 9: just everything is gonna look good i'm tired of feeling
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: like you have to say it because like most part
- 1:51:55Speaker 9: for the most part everything looks good nowadays a lot
- 1:51:57Speaker 9: of Did you not like Guardians?
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: Well, no, I'm just saying Guardians is like the exception.
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: I feel like everything going on, but I mean, I
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: feel like there's a lot of other projects.
- 1:52:06Speaker 9: And the world of Transformers every other year and Turtles
- 1:52:08Speaker 9: every other year and all these big CGI things that
- 1:52:11Speaker 9: everyone acts like are great. It's like saying something looks
- 1:52:14Speaker 9: good anymore doesn't really.
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 1:52:17Speaker 8: Guardians looked incredible.
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: That's my counter-argument, because I did, the trailer I got
- 1:52:22Speaker 4: beforehand was the new Transformers, and I'm like, it still
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: just looks like crap. I still don't care about those characters.
- 1:52:30Speaker 8: Again, the polar opposite.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: I don't care about those characters, but I also don't
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: think the Transformers look good.
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: I think the design is bad, but on top of that,
- 1:52:39Speaker 8: I don't think.
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: They move in a way that registers as a real thing.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: It still feels like a big fake CG thing, versus...
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: Rocket running around with Groot in that first movie, I'm like,
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: I buy every moment of this. As ridiculous as they
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: are as characters, they feel real. Where none of that
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: shit that goes on in Michael Bay movies ever feels
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: like it's really happening in any world, even the one
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: on the screen. That's the thing about Groot and Rocket.
- 1:53:05Speaker 7: The characters are so well fleshed out.
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:53:08Speaker 7: Not just the way they look, but the way their
- 1:53:10Speaker 7: dialogue's written, the way they behaved. you, you lose, well, yeah,
- 1:53:16Speaker 7: but you, you stop thinking, oh, it's a raccoon in
- 1:53:19Speaker 7: a tree.
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:53:20Speaker 7: Or at least I did anyway. And, and I'm going
- 1:53:22Speaker 7: to be honest, that's what sold me on the first guardians. Oh,
- 1:53:25Speaker 7: talking raccoon movie.
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: I'll go see that. You know?
- 1:53:28Speaker 7: And, and then I watched it and like, I get,
- 1:53:32Speaker 7: I get lost in that, in those characters.
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: And yeah, I think that again, that's the takeaway of
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: all of this. Like as much as the other stuff
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: is good, like, That's what I responded to so much
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: in this movie in particular is just character development and
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: the fact that they bothered to break away from other
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: stories to just do this, as you said, slice of
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: life story.
- 1:53:52Speaker 8: I was so shocked when I got halfway in, I realized.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: This is it.
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: And they even broke up the team.
- 1:53:58Speaker 8: It's going to be.
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: The fact that they have the team separates.
- 1:54:01Speaker 9: That's what went back to where I said it felt
- 1:54:03Speaker 9: so much like he was trying to do Star Wars.
- 1:54:04Speaker 9: It felt like Empire. It felt like you had the
- 1:54:06Speaker 9: big battle in the beginning... Everyone went out. Luke had
- 1:54:09Speaker 9: to go do his thing. Peter had to go do
- 1:54:11Speaker 9: his thing. You went over here. We had to come
- 1:54:14Speaker 9: back together. We have to save. Again, daddy issues, finding
- 1:54:18Speaker 9: out you're my dad. It felt like there was so
- 1:54:20Speaker 9: much Empire stuff. Someone died. There was a dark, melancholy ending.
- 1:54:24Speaker 9: It just feels so Empire. Empire is pretty amazingly put together.
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: I can't fault him for that.
- 1:54:32Speaker 9: The only sequel that gets its props is being, I
- 1:54:35Speaker 9: don't want to say better than original, but at least
- 1:54:37Speaker 9: being worthy.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Empire and Godfather, that's pretty much all. Yeah, that's all
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: you got. So, is there anything we've forgotten? I feel
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: like I've hit most of my moments. I mean, the
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: only time I felt it went so comic book crazy
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: was is them bouncing through space and we get the
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: faces getting... That was so silly ridiculous.
- 1:55:03Speaker 9: I laughed out loud. That was one of my few
- 1:55:05Speaker 9: where I like out loud. It's at least funny though.
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: I get the feeling that they were like, okay, there's
- 1:55:10Speaker 7: going to be a real tendency to, if we push
- 1:55:13Speaker 7: this too far, it's going to be silly.
- 1:55:14Speaker 8: So let's just do that.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: Let's just tweak it a little and be like, it's.
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: Set in, that's it.
- 1:55:19Speaker 9: There was stupid Easter egg stuff. One of the roles
- 1:55:23Speaker 9: they went through was the world that they were in,
- 1:55:26Speaker 9: in Thor part two, in the beginning of Thor, the
- 1:55:28Speaker 9: second Thor, maybe they're fighting, in some world, and he
- 1:55:30Speaker 9: fights a big rock thing, one of those blips, was
- 1:55:33Speaker 9: that world, they're all.
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: Like weird, because then the, The planet that they land
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: on where the Ravagers come and find them is like
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: a planet that Hulk was on in one of the comics.
- 1:55:44Speaker 8: Again, none of the planets are new names. They took
- 1:55:47Speaker 8: planets from the Marvel Universe.
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: They were all canon.
- 1:55:50Speaker 8: So yeah, at some point, they all get.
- 1:55:52Speaker 6: Tied in somehow.
- 1:55:52Speaker 8: It was the only one I noticed. I noticed that Thor.
- 1:55:53Speaker 9: And again, if I hadn't just watched that Thor movie
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: again recently, but I was like, whoa, that was the
- 1:55:57Speaker 9: Thor planet that they just cut through. I still, man,
- 1:56:01Speaker 9: I still really love that Stan Lee being with the Watchers.
- 1:56:05Speaker 9: I think that's so... That's been theory for so long.
- 1:56:09Speaker 9: I wonder who James Gunn had to, like, threaten to
- 1:56:12Speaker 9: kill to make it canon.
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: Because it's been a theory forever. Well, they still won't
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: admit to it, though.
- 1:56:16Speaker 9: So the fact that he was like, I'm doing a
- 1:56:18Speaker 9: scene where Stan Lee is talking to Watchers, damn it.
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: And about his other character from the other movie. About
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: his Civil War movie, except when he was a FedEx agent.
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: It's obvious he is the same guy, more or less.
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: I mean, we've all kind of had weird theories about that.
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: But yeah, so now it's not just a guy who
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: happens to look like him in all these stories. He
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: might just be.
- 1:56:36Speaker 7: Well, not only that, he looked like he was boring
- 1:56:38Speaker 7: the watchers.
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: Well, they all did.
- 1:56:39Speaker 8: Yeah, because they left him walking away at the end.
- 1:56:41Speaker 8: And with no ride. They're like, tough luck, old dude.
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: See you later. Oh, man. But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:56:49Speaker 9: I do also think that this movie was so light
- 1:56:52Speaker 9: and so happy. Like I said, the ending came down,
- 1:56:55Speaker 9: but generally speaking, this played much more like a comedy
- 1:56:59Speaker 9: than I would say a drama.
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: I feel like the first one was pretty light, which
- 1:57:04Speaker 4: is weird because it had all the villain stuff, but
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: I felt this one didn't feel quite as light to me. Interesting.
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: Maybe that was just my take on it.
- 1:57:11Speaker 9: I feel like the first one had enough plot and
- 1:57:13Speaker 9: stuff that I still kind of felt dots connecting.
- 1:57:15Speaker 8: There's definitely a lot more dots connecting than the first one.
- 1:57:16Speaker 9: This just felt like we were just on a vacation
- 1:57:18Speaker 9: and some shit happened. But I was going to say,
- 1:57:21Speaker 9: I think it might have been by design because I
- 1:57:24Speaker 9: feel like, again, if... If you're going to wrap up
- 1:57:28Speaker 9: Thanos correctly, it needs to start getting dark. I think
- 1:57:32Speaker 9: in this next Thor movie, I think the reason Thor
- 1:57:35Speaker 9: is not on Asgard, I think Asgard is going to
- 1:57:37Speaker 9: get destroyed. I think the girl, I forget her name.
- 1:57:39Speaker 9: I think when she shows up, I think Asgard is
- 1:57:43Speaker 9: going to get popped. I think this Thor movie will
- 1:57:45Speaker 9: lead directly into the shit. I think Asgard is going
- 1:57:49Speaker 9: to get fucked up. I think he's going to run
- 1:57:50Speaker 9: into Hulk. I think they're going to come back and
- 1:57:53Speaker 9: they're going to be like.
- 1:57:55Speaker 8: Heimdall, the man Heimdall.
- 1:57:58Speaker 9: Idris Elba, like he, the theory is that he's the
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: last stone. That's how he uses the bridge, like whatever
- 1:58:06Speaker 9: one's left, space or whatever one is left, that's why
- 1:58:09Speaker 9: his eyes are whatever.
- 1:58:10Speaker 8: That he actually the.
- 1:58:12Speaker 9: Stone is either in his helmet or in his sword
- 1:58:14Speaker 9: and so when they get that last stone we have
- 1:58:17Speaker 9: a gauntlet like gauntlet's complete so I feel like maybe
- 1:58:21Speaker 9: it's like alright let's have one big last happy hurrah
- 1:58:24Speaker 9: before shit gets real I don't think they're gonna be
- 1:58:28Speaker 9: morbid or dark at all but If it's like the comic,
- 1:58:31Speaker 9: a lot of people die.
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: A lot of people die. Well, that's what I was
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: trying to decide how many steps we have. So we've
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: got Ragnarok, but does Spider-Man count? Because it's now part
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: of the arc. It's got Tony Stark.
- 1:58:41Speaker 9: I think since it's being shoehorned, I think they're just
- 1:58:44Speaker 9: going to give Spider-Man a call.
- 1:58:46Speaker 8: But I don't think his story.
- 1:58:47Speaker 9: Is going to be integral.
- 1:58:49Speaker 8: The word, like I said, like. This next Thor movie
- 1:58:52Speaker 8: is the last.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: Those are the only two we've got this year, right?
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: Of the Marvel official ones.
- 1:58:56Speaker 8: Is Black Panther this year or next year?
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: I think it's next year.
- 1:58:59Speaker 9: Defenders is August, but that won't connect either. Yeah, I
- 1:59:02Speaker 9: guess it is for this year.
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: I mean, we've got.
- 1:59:04Speaker 8: Guardians and Thor, so we've got to.
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: And again, Spider-Man, but that's not officially.
- 1:59:10Speaker 9: So yeah, like I said, Thor has to lead right
- 1:59:12Speaker 9: into Infinity then.
- 1:59:13Speaker 8: So this should be... Yeah. You know, maybe.
- 1:59:17Speaker 9: They were like, James, have a lot of fun because
- 1:59:20Speaker 9: it's going.
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: To get real serious. Which is weird because that trailer
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: makes that Thor look way lighter and more fun.
- 1:59:26Speaker 8: So I'm like, it's interesting. It looks more like Guardians
- 1:59:27Speaker 8: of the Galaxy.
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: Maybe they're trying to just feed off that.
- 1:59:30Speaker 8: Like I said, once you go to space. Civil War
- 1:59:31Speaker 8: is too heavy. Let's go have fun in space. Everybody
- 1:59:33Speaker 8: chills the fuck out.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: That's it. So let's all go to space and have fun, guys.
- 1:59:39Speaker 9: I would like to see James Gunn direct a Star
- 1:59:41Speaker 9: Wars movie.
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:59:43Speaker 7: Definitely.
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: Whether it be nine or just one of the many sub-stories,
- 1:59:48Speaker 4: I would love to see Jonathan.
- 1:59:49Speaker 8: Once again, like this, sub-story, spinoff.
- 1:59:52Speaker 9: Some completely unrelated.
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:59:54Speaker 9: Don't give me a Boba Fett that just completely unrelated,
- 1:59:58Speaker 9: but in the world.
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: I mean, they're all in space. Can we start having
- 2:00:01Speaker 4: those overlap? I mean, Disney owns them all now.
- 2:00:04Speaker 7: I'd like to see a spinoff movie from the guys
- 2:00:07Speaker 7: in the last spinoff movie.
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: See, I said that before. I was like, other than, spoiler,
- 2:00:12Speaker 4: how it ends. Especially those two guys. The blind guy
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: and the dude with the gun. Can they just go
- 2:00:19Speaker 4: off and have an adventure? Because I'd watch a whole
- 2:00:21Speaker 4: movie with those two guys.
- 2:00:22Speaker 7: I would watch a whole series of movies.
- 2:00:23Speaker 8: And bring the robot with them.
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: Because halfway through that movie, I'm like, man, these guys
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: kick ass. Oh, they're gonna die.
- 2:00:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:00:30Speaker 4: And it's gonna be horrible. Because, I mean, our main
- 2:00:32Speaker 4: two are kind of, like, not all that interesting, really.
- 2:00:34Speaker 4: They're just there to drive the plot. But our other
- 2:00:36Speaker 4: side characters are all amazing. So I'm like, just follow
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: these other guys around for a side story that I
- 2:00:42Speaker 4: don't know how in any timeline they could have had it.
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: It doesn't matter, because you can tell in the.
- 2:00:48Speaker 7: Whatever events led up to that movie, those guys have
- 2:00:51Speaker 7: seen some shit.
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: So I guess we could follow them individually, but we
- 2:00:55Speaker 4: wouldn't have that team.
- 2:00:57Speaker 8: I mean, we wouldn't want the crazy pilot. You know,
- 2:01:00Speaker 8: that was just.
- 2:01:00Speaker 4: It's just those three, man. They will find somebody. So, let's, yeah.
- 2:01:06Speaker 9: I like the way Donnie Yen's Force character, like, created
- 2:01:10Speaker 9: a whole new theory on the Stormtroopers. Have you heard of, like,
- 2:01:13Speaker 9: because of his scene where he's walking, like, saying to Force, man,
- 2:01:17Speaker 9: you're not getting hit.
- 2:01:18Speaker 8: I've seen it now.
- 2:01:19Speaker 9: The theory with Stormtroopers is that, not that they're bad
- 2:01:22Speaker 9: at shooting, but that They suck against fighting the Force
- 2:01:27Speaker 9: so much that if you're Force-sensitive, they can't hit you.
- 2:01:30Speaker 9: Which is the actual reason why Luke and Leia could
- 2:01:33Speaker 9: never get hit. And Han was just lucky because he
- 2:01:35Speaker 9: was with them.
- 2:01:35Speaker 4: Well, there's a theory too that Han.
- 2:01:37Speaker 9: His buddy goes for the switch right after Donnie Yen's
- 2:01:40Speaker 9: character dies. He gets up and does something, gets hit immediately.
- 2:01:43Speaker 9: And Donnie Yen did the slow.
- 2:01:45Speaker 8: Just geek stuff.
- 2:01:46Speaker 9: So now the theory is that Stormtroopers aren't actually that terrible...
- 2:01:50Speaker 9: They just, they can't fight the force. They suck at
- 2:01:53Speaker 9: fighting the force. And it's like, if you have any
- 2:01:55Speaker 9: force sensitivity, it's almost like you have a bubble. They
- 2:01:57Speaker 9: can't fucking hit you.
- 2:01:58Speaker 7: Well, there's a theory, too, that Han is force sensitive.
- 2:02:00Speaker 7: He just never was aware.
- 2:02:02Speaker 4: It wouldn't make sense.
- 2:02:03Speaker 8: That dude showed up at just the right time.
- 2:02:05Speaker 7: Showed up at just the right time. He's all go
- 2:02:07Speaker 7: to bed feeling, you know, all the time. You know,
- 2:02:10Speaker 7: made his way through a lot of stuff that... would
- 2:02:14Speaker 7: have killed anybody else.
- 2:02:15Speaker 4: I think at one point they had said even droids
- 2:02:18Speaker 4: can be force sensitive, which seems really weird to me.
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: Really?
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: But R2 seems like he should be. Because to me,
- 2:02:26Speaker 4: that's what the Donnie Yen scene is sort of mirroring
- 2:02:29Speaker 4: the fact that that first episode four, when 3PO and
- 2:02:33Speaker 4: R2 just go through an entire hallway full of lasers
- 2:02:37Speaker 4: and don't get hit.
- 2:02:38Speaker 8: And to me, that's just kind of fun in the
- 2:02:39Speaker 8: first one. I think in my head as a kid,
- 2:02:40Speaker 8: I was like, what are robots? You wouldn't bother. Yeah,
- 2:02:42Speaker 8: nobody's trying to shoot them. They're not combat robots. You
- 2:02:45Speaker 8: wouldn't shoot them.
- 2:02:46Speaker 4: They're just, it's like the toaster. You don't worry about that.
- 2:02:48Speaker 8: You're trying to kill that guy over there.
- 2:02:50Speaker 4: So yeah, to me, I thought that was kind of
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: a little tie into that, that it's sort of that
- 2:02:55Speaker 4: same thing. But once again, if you want to have
- 2:02:56Speaker 4: that theory... To me, if there's a robot that's going
- 2:02:59Speaker 4: to have some crazy force powers, it's R2. Because who
- 2:03:02Speaker 4: lives the entire span? Well, there's a grievous, grievous, but definitely.
- 2:03:05Speaker 4: I mean, they showed he had human hearts. He is
- 2:03:08Speaker 4: a living creature at one point. He's just been turned
- 2:03:10Speaker 4: into a weird cyborg. Yeah, because he's like.
- 2:03:12Speaker 9: A weird lizard thing. Maybe that was just meant to
- 2:03:15Speaker 9: open a door for Darth Vader himself.
- 2:03:17Speaker 8: I think so.
- 2:03:17Speaker 7: I think it was meant to show you that people
- 2:03:20Speaker 7: besides Vader have gone through this sort of process.
- 2:03:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I wasn't even sure that he was officially free.
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: force sensitive at all i feel like it was one
- 2:03:29Speaker 4: of those he just picked up.
- 2:03:30Speaker 9: Oh no yeah no yeah i was just making a
- 2:03:32Speaker 9: point at him.
- 2:03:32Speaker 4: Being alive at all yeah using jedi powers for his
- 2:03:36Speaker 4: own because even in the zone i think i think
- 2:03:39Speaker 4: i think the horse of both i think was a
- 2:03:42Speaker 4: clone i don't think it was the same guy there
- 2:03:45Speaker 4: was some big bad evil jedi dude in the timothy's
- 2:03:48Speaker 4: on books but i i think he was a clone
- 2:03:50Speaker 4: he wasn't a robot but i think even clones could
- 2:03:52Speaker 4: i think if you cloned someone force sensitive they would
- 2:03:55Speaker 4: still be force sensitive so i want to say they
- 2:03:57Speaker 4: cloned a jedi in those books but take luke you
- 2:04:02Speaker 4: heard that i don't remember if that was in the
- 2:04:04Speaker 4: comics where the hand they found the luke hand and
- 2:04:09Speaker 4: then they took it and cloned another luke.
- 2:04:11Speaker 9: Oh right right yeah yeah yeah i heard that theory
- 2:04:13Speaker 9: is still kind of possible for this that there could
- 2:04:16Speaker 9: be two luke yeah Because those early trailers made a
- 2:04:20Speaker 9: point to show the original saber and the robot hand.
- 2:04:23Speaker 8: Yeah, the lightsaber is back.
- 2:04:24Speaker 4: So why exactly is the lightsaber back now without some
- 2:04:29Speaker 4: sort of weird tie-in?
- 2:04:29Speaker 8: So someone found that hand.
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:04:31Speaker 8: Interesting.
- 2:04:33Speaker 7: Well, she did say it was an interesting story.
- 2:04:35Speaker 4: I hope we get a side movie on that.
- 2:04:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:04:39Speaker 4: Directed by James Gunn. All right, so anything else to
- 2:04:43Speaker 4: pass along this week? gone on our usual marvel super
- 2:04:47Speaker 4: special so all right so we'll be back for another
- 2:04:52Speaker 4: one we got wonder woman we forgot to do logan
- 2:04:55Speaker 4: so we can do logan on blu-ray or whatever so
- 2:04:58Speaker 4: i can sit on logan yeah we can definitely come
- 2:05:01Speaker 4: back on logan so.
- 2:05:01Speaker 9: It's a very respectful way for him to end that
- 2:05:04Speaker 9: character i will say that much with some mediocre movies
- 2:05:07Speaker 9: in the middle i thought that was a solid solid
- 2:05:10Speaker 9: movie for him to leave that character.
- 2:05:11Speaker 4: On a good amount to discuss so yeah i'm up
- 2:05:13Speaker 4: for coming back for that one and Wonder Woman, and
- 2:05:16Speaker 4: God knows what else we'll try to work in there.
- 2:05:18Speaker 4: The trailer looks good. I know that's not always.
- 2:05:22Speaker 8: Every Zack Snyder trailer is my thing.
- 2:05:24Speaker 9: I'm just like, I don't trust it anymore.
- 2:05:25Speaker 8: Technically, he's not directing them.
- 2:05:27Speaker 4: So it's okay.
- 2:05:28Speaker 8: Please, please, please get this one right.
- 2:05:31Speaker 9: I know Jeff Johns is around now. Please get that
- 2:05:34Speaker 9: guy in order.
- 2:05:36Speaker 4: Alright, so we'll be back with one of those. Somewhere
- 2:05:39Speaker 4: down the line. More superheroes. Or space adventures.
- 2:05:42Speaker 5: Whichever.
- 2:05:44Speaker 4: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time.
- 2:05:45Speaker 4: Same geek for you.
- 2:05:46Speaker 12: Thanks for listening.
- 2:06:16Speaker 11: And if you don't love me now You will never

- 2:06:32Speaker 11: me now You will never love me again I can

- 2:07:09Speaker 10: The light.
- 2:07:14Speaker 11: And if you don't love me now You will never
- 2:07:18Speaker 11: love me again I can still hear.
- 2:07:20Speaker 4: You saying You would never break.
- 2:07:25Speaker 11: The chain And if you don't love me now You
- 2:07:29Speaker 11: will never love me again I can still hear you
- 2:07:35Speaker 11: saying You would never break the chain.
- 2:08:38Speaker 10: All right.
- 2:09:18Speaker 9: I had buyer's remorse in the theater. I was like,
- 2:09:21Speaker 9: I just gave this thing $ 10. And I'm like, my
- 2:09:23Speaker 9: girlfriend's here. I gave this thing $ 20.
- 2:09:25Speaker 4: Like, I'm in the movie. What the hell?
- 2:09:27Speaker 9: They're going to make another.
- 2:09:28Speaker 8: I'm giving it money.
