- 0:00Ow! That stinger, zinger comment,
- 0:04that cutting remark, that flaming
- 0:09arrow, those hurtful words.
- 0:12Sometimes we struggle when unkind,
- 0:17hurtful words come at us, and we struggle with forgiving the
- 0:21person who said those things. But we need to remember that
- 0:25we are not fighting against people made of flesh and
- 0:29blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities
- 0:32of the unseen world, against mighty powers of
- 0:36darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in
- 0:40heavenly places. How do
- 0:43we deflect these fiery darts, these hurtful
- 0:47words, these cutting remarks? We need to put
- 0:50on the full armor of God. Listen in today as we unpack
- 0:54this. Welcome to the Daily
- 0:57Audio Torah.
- 1:02Welcome to the Daily Audio Torah. Today is September 28th.
- 1:07Now let's continue our journey reading through the entire Bible in
- 1:11one year. This week we are reading from the New Living Translation
- 1:15for the Old Testament and for the New Testament.
- 1:21Deuteronomy 31:11-20.
- 1:26You must read this book of instruction to all the people of Israel when they
- 1:30assemble before the Lord your God at the place he chooses.
- 1:34Call them all together— men, women, children,
- 1:39and the foreigners living in your towns— so they may hear this
- 1:42book of instruction and learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully
- 1:46obey all the terms of these instructions.
- 1:50Do this so that your children who have not known these instructions will
- 1:54hear them and will learn to fear the Lord your God.
- 1:58Do this as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan
- 2:01to occupy. Then the Lord said to Moses,
- 2:04the time has come for you to die. Call Joshua and
- 2:08present yourselves at the Tabernacle so that I may commission him there.
- 2:14So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the Tabernacle,
- 2:19and the Lord appeared to them in a pillar of cloud that stood at the
- 2:22entrance to the sacred tent. The Lord
- 2:26said to Moses, you are about to die and join your ancestors. After you have
- 2:30gone, these people will begin to worship foreign gods
- 2:33and the gods of the land where they are going. They will abandon me
- 2:37and break my covenant that I have made with them.
- 2:41Then my anger will blaze forth against them.
- 2:44I will abandon them, hiding my face from them, and they will be devoured.
- 2:48Terrible trouble will come down on them, and on that day they will say,
- 2:53these disasters have come down on us because God is
- 2:57no longer among us. At that time I will
- 3:01hide my face from them on account of all the evil they commit by worshiping
- 3:06other gods. So write
- 3:09down the words of this song and teach it to the people of Israel.
- 3:13Help them learn it so it may serve as a witness for me
- 3:16against them. For I will bring them into the land
- 3:19I swore to give their ancestors, a land flowing
- 3:23with milk and honey. There they will become
- 3:26prosperous, eat all the food they want, and become fat.
- 3:31But They will begin to worship other gods. They will
- 3:34despise Me and break My covenant.
- 3:43Isaiah 54:1-57:14.
- 3:48Sing, O barren woman! Break forth into
- 3:52loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem!
- 3:56Even though you never gave birth to a child,
- 4:00For the woman who could bear no children now has
- 4:04more than all the other women, says the Lord.
- 4:07Enlarge your house, build an addition, spread out your
- 4:11home, for you will soon be bursting at the seams.
- 4:15Your descendants will take over other nations and live in their cities.
- 4:19Fear not, you will no longer live in shame.
- 4:23The shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood will be
- 4:27remembered no more. For your Creator will be your husband; the
- 4:32Lord Almighty is his name. He is your Redeemer,
- 4:36the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth.
- 4:40For the Lord has called you back from your grief, as though you were
- 4:43a young wife abandoned by her husband, says the,
- 4:47the Lord. For a brief moment I abandoned
- 4:51you, but with great compassion I will take
- 4:55you back. In a moment of anger, I turned My face away
- 4:59for a little while, but with everlasting love I
- 5:03will have compassion on you, says the Lord your Redeemer.
- 5:09Just as I swore in the time of Noah that I would never again
- 5:12let a flood cover the earth and destroy its life,
- 5:17so I now swear that I will never again pour out My anger
- 5:20on you.
- 5:24For the mountains may depart and the hills disappear,
- 5:29but even then I will remain loyal to you.
- 5:32My covenant of blessing will never be broken, says the Lord,
- 5:36who has mercy on you. O storm-battered
- 5:41city, troubled and desolate, I will rebuild you on
- 5:45a foundation of sapphires, and make the walls of your houses from
- 5:49precious jewels. I will make your towers
- 5:52of sparkling rubies and your gates and walls
- 5:56of shining gems. I will teach all your
- 6:00citizens and their prosperity will be great.
- 6:03You will live under a government that is just and fair.
- 6:08Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace.
- 6:13Terror will not come near you.
- 6:17If any nation comes to fight you,
- 6:21it will not be because I sent them to punish you.
- 6:24Your enemies will always be defeated because I am
- 6:28on your side. I have
- 6:32created the blacksmith who fans the coals beneath the forge
- 6:36and makes the weapons of destruction.
- 6:42And I have created the armies that destroy. But in that coming
- 6:45day, no weapon turned against you will succeed. And everyone
- 6:49who tells lies in court will be brought to justice.
- 6:54These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord. Their vindication
- 6:59will come from Me. I, the Lord, have spoken.
- 7:07Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink,
- 7:10even if you have no money. Come, take your choice
- 7:14of wine or milk. It's all free.
- 7:18Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength?
- 7:21Why pay for food that does, does you no good?
- 7:25Listen, and I will tell you where to get food that
- 7:29is good for the soul. Come to Me with your ears wide
- 7:33open. Listen, for the life of your soul is
- 7:36at stake. I am ready to make an everlasting
- 7:40covenant with you. I will give you all the mercies
- 7:44and unfailing love that I promised to David. He displayed
- 7:48My power by being My witness and a leader among the nations.
- 7:53You also will command the nations, and they will come running to
- 7:56obey. Because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of
- 8:00Israel, have made you glorious.
- 8:06Seek the Lord while you can find Him. Call on Him
- 8:09now while He is near. Let the people turn
- 8:12from their wicked deeds. Let them banish from
- 8:16their minds the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn
- 8:20to the Lord that He may have mercy on them.
- 8:24Yes, turn to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
- 8:29My thoughts are completely different from yours, says the Lord,
- 8:33and My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
- 8:37For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are
- 8:41My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
- 8:45The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to
- 8:48water the earth. They cause the grain to grow,
- 8:51producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
- 8:56It is the same with My Word. I send it out,
- 8:59and it always produces fruit.
- 9:02It will accomplish all I want it to do,
- 9:06and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will
- 9:10live in joy and peace. The mountains and
- 9:14hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap
- 9:17their hands. Where once there were thorns,
- 9:21cypress trees will grow. Where briars grew,
- 9:25myrtles will sprout up. This miracle will bring great honor to the Lord's
- 9:29name. It will be an everlasting sign of His power and
- 9:33love. Be just and fair to all,
- 9:37says the Lord. Do what is right and good, for I
- 9:40am coming soon to rescue you. Blessed are those who
- 9:45are careful to do this. Blessed are those who honor My Sabbath days
- 9:48of rest by refusing to work. And blessed
- 9:52are those who keep themselves from doing wrong.
- 9:56And My blessings are for Gentiles too when they commit themselves
- 10:00to the Lord. Do not let them think that I consider them second-class
- 10:04citizens.
- 10:10And My blessings are also for the eunuchs.
- 10:14They are as much Mine as anyone else. For I say
- 10:18this to the eunuchs who keep My Sabbath days holy, who choose to do
- 10:21what pleases Me and commit their lives to Me: I will
- 10:25give them, in My house, within My walls, a memorial
- 10:29and a name far greater than the honor they would have received by
- 10:33having sons and daughters. For the name I give them is
- 10:36an everlasting one; it will never disappear.
- 10:41I will also bless the Gentiles who commit themselves to the Lord
- 10:45and serve Him and love His name, who worship Him and do not
- 10:49desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who have accepted His
- 10:52covenant. I will bring them also to My holy mountain
- 10:56of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in My house
- 11:01of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices,
- 11:05because my Temple will be called a house of prayer
- 11:09for all nations. For the Sovereign
- 11:13Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says,
- 11:16I will bring others too, besides my people
- 11:20Israel. Come,
- 11:24wild animals of the field, come,
- 11:27Wild animals of the forest, come and devour my people!
- 11:31For the leaders of my people, the Lord's watchmen, his shepherds,
- 11:36are blind to every danger. They are like silent
- 11:40watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love
- 11:43to lie around sleeping and dreaming, and they are as greedy
- 11:47as dogs, never satisfied. They are stupid shepherds,
- 11:51all following their own path. All of them intent
- 11:55on personal gain. Come, they say,
- 11:58we will get some wine and have a party. Let's all get drunk.
- 12:03Let this go on and on, and tomorrow will be even better.
- 12:07The righteous pass away, the godly often die before their time,
- 12:12and no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand
- 12:16that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
- 12:20For the godly who die will rest in peace.
- 12:23But you— come here, you witches' children, you offspring
- 12:28of adulterers and prostitutes! Whom do you mock,
- 12:31making faces and sticking out your tongues?
- 12:35You children of sinners and liars! You worship your idols with great
- 12:41passion beneath every green tree. You slaughter
- 12:45your children as human sacrifices down in the valleys under overhanging
- 12:49rocks. Your gods are the smooth stones in the
- 12:53valleys. You worship them with drink offerings and grain offerings.
- 12:57They, not I, are your inheritance.
- 13:00Does all this make Me happy? You have committed adultery
- 13:05on the mountaintops by worshiping idols there, and so you have
- 13:09been unfaithful to Me. Behind closed doors
- 13:12you have set up your idols and worshiped them instead of Me.
- 13:16This is adultery, for you are loving these idols instead
- 13:20of loving Me. You have climbed right into bed with these detestable
- 13:25idols. You have given olive oil and
- 13:29perfume to Molech as your gift. You have traveled far,
- 13:32even into the world of the dead, to find new gods to love.
- 13:36You grew weary in your search, but you never gave up.
- 13:41You strengthened yourself and went on, Why were you more
- 13:44afraid of them than of me? How is it that you don't even remember me
- 13:49or think about me? Is it because I have not corrected you that
- 13:53you have no fear of me? So I will now expose your so-called
- 13:57good deeds that you consider so righteous. None of
- 14:01them will benefit or save you. Let's see if your idols can do
- 14:04anything for you when you cry to them for help.
- 14:08They are so helpless that a breath of wind can knock them down.
- 14:12But whoever trusts in me will possess the land and inherit
- 14:16my holy mountain. I will say,
- 14:20rebuild the road, clear away the rocks and stones so my
- 14:23people can return from captivity.
- 14:30Ephesians 6:1-24.
- 14:38Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the
- 14:41right thing to do. Honor your father and mother.
- 14:45This is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise.
- 14:49And this is the promise: if you honor your
- 14:53father and mother, you will live a long life full of blessing.
- 14:57And now a word to your fathers. Don't make
- 15:01your children angry by the way you treat them. Rather,
- 15:04bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved
- 15:08by the Lord. Slaves, obey your earthly masters
- 15:12with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as
- 15:15you would serve Christ. Work hard, but not just
- 15:20to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of
- 15:23Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.
- 15:27Work with enthusiasm as though you were working for the Lord
- 15:30rather than for people. Remember that the Lord
- 15:33will reward each one of us for the good we do,
- 15:37whether we are slaves or free. And in the same way,
- 15:41you masters must treat your slaves right. Don't threaten
- 15:44them. Remember, you both have the same Master
- 15:48in heaven, and he has no favorites. A final word.
- 15:52Be strong with the Lord's mighty power. Put on all
- 15:56of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against
- 16:00all strategies and tricks of the devil. For we
- 16:04are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil
- 16:08rulers and authorities of the unseen world,
- 16:11against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world,
- 16:15and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
- 16:19Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in
- 16:23the time of evil, so that after the battle you will
- 16:27still be standing firm. Stand your ground,
- 16:31putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the
- 16:34body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes,
- 16:38put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you
- 16:42will be fully prepared. In every battle,
- 16:45you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows
- 16:49aimed at you by Satan.
- 16:53Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of
- 16:57the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray at all times
- 17:01and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 17:04Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for
- 17:08all Christians everywhere. And pray for me too.
- 17:12Ask God to give me the right words as I boldly explain
- 17:16God's secret plan, that the Good News is
- 17:19for the Gentiles too. I am in chains now for preaching
- 17:24this message as God's ambassador, but pray that I
- 17:28will keep on speaking boldly for Him as I should.
- 17:33Tychicus, a much-loved brother and faithful helper
- 17:36in the Lord's work, will tell you all about how I
- 17:40am getting along. I am sending him to you for just this purpose.
- 17:44He will let you know how, how we are, and he will encourage
- 17:48you. May God give you peace, dear brothers and sisters,
- 17:53and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord
- 17:57Jesus Christ. May God's grace be upon all who love
- 18:01our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
- 18:09Psalm 70:1-5.
- 18:13Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me!
- 18:17May those who tried to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame!
- 18:21May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace!
- 18:26Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said,
- 18:29aha! We've got Him now. But may all who
- 18:33search for You be filled with joy and gladness. May those
- 18:37who love Your salvation repeatedly shout,
- 18:40God is great! But I am poor and needy. Please hurry
- 18:44to my aid, O God. You are my Helper and
- 18:48my Savior. O Lord, do not delay.
- 18:54Proverbs 24:8.
- 18:57A person who plans evil will get a reputation
- 19:01as a troublemaker. I want to speak to
- 19:05you today from Isaiah chapter 55, and then
- 19:09we're going to look at Ephesians chapter 6.
- 19:13And I want to begin with chapter 55, starting with verse
- 19:1610. The rain and the snow come down from
- 19:20the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth.
- 19:27They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and
- 19:31bread for the hungry. It is the same with my
- 19:35word. I send it out and it
- 19:38always produces fruit. It will accomplish
- 19:42all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send
- 19:46it. You will live in joy and peace.
- 19:53So this is such a beautiful thought that
- 19:58God is the one who sends His Word forth out
- 20:02into the atmosphere, into the earth, and He
- 20:06always accomplishes what He wishes to accomplish with
- 20:11the, the Word of God. Remember, Jesus was
- 20:15the Word made flesh. He was
- 20:18the Word before He was ever born,
- 20:22and then the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
- 20:26So when we consume the Word of God, when we take it
- 20:30in into our ears, through our ears, and into our heart,
- 20:33we're basically communing with and dialoguing
- 20:37with Jesus Christ Himself. And God
- 20:41makes a promise here that when we hear the Word,
- 20:45God is going to accomplish something, and it will
- 20:49produce results. It will produce a crop, a harvest.
- 20:53It will produce fruit. The Word of God
- 20:56does that. And so I know that there are many
- 21:00competing things that pull and tug at our time and
- 21:04our attention. There are so many different podcasts out
- 21:08there and so many different programs on TV and many things
- 21:13that we must do in a day with tasks— grocery
- 21:16shopping, paying the bills, working,
- 21:20taking care of our families. But when you spend time
- 21:24with Jesus, when you take time to hear and
- 21:28listen to the Word of God, It is
- 21:32going to produce great fruit in your life.
- 21:37It is time well spent. Your heart
- 21:42is like the soil that receives the seed,
- 21:45and the Word of God is the seed. Make sure that
- 21:49the soil of your heart has been plowed and
- 21:53is open and receptive to receive the seed.
- 21:59Now the other place I want to go to is in Ephesians chapter 6,
- 22:04and Paul
- 22:08gives a final word. And starting in verse 10, a final
- 22:12word: Be strong with the Lord's mighty power.
- 22:16Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able
- 22:20to stand firm against all the strategies and
- 22:23tricks of
- 22:27the devil. For we are not fighting against people
- 22:32who are made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers
- 22:35and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers
- 22:39of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits
- 22:43in the heavenly places. So this
- 22:47is an important principle, and we can know it and then we can forget
- 22:51it, and we have to be reminded of it.
- 22:53Especially when we are in the heat of battle.
- 22:57So when you're not in the heat of battle, this is the time to really
- 23:00sink this truth deep into your heart and your spirit.
- 23:05So the next time you find yourself in any kind of
- 23:08a conflict where someone is verbally assaulting
- 23:11or attacking you, yelling at you, hurling threats
- 23:15and insults at you, you need to remember it's
- 23:19not the person. Who is your enemy.
- 23:22There is an evil spirit who is acting
- 23:26through that person. It is Satan himself
- 23:30who is wanting to attack you through that person, and the
- 23:34evil spirit is your enemy, not the person.
- 23:40That is such an important distinction to make when we
- 23:44have someone who cancels us,
- 23:48or openly is hostile toward us or is
- 23:52name-calling or puts us down or whatever
- 23:56it might be, we need to remember it is not the person,
- 24:00that there is an evil spirit operating and working through that
- 24:03person. It goes on to say,
- 24:07verse 13, use every piece of God's armor to resist the
- 24:11enemy in the time of evil. So that after the
- 24:14battle you will still be standing firm.
- 24:17Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth,
- 24:22the breastplate or body armor of God's righteousness.
- 24:27Put on the shoes of the gospel of peace so
- 24:31that you will be fully prepared. In every battle,
- 24:34you will need faith as your shield to stop
- 24:38the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.
- 24:45Put on salvation as your helmet and wear the
- 24:49sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
- 24:53Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of
- 24:57the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be
- 25:00persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
- 25:06So again, it's another reminder, and, and we know it And
- 25:10then we forget it. We just easily forget it, that when
- 25:14a fiery dart, when words come at us that are
- 25:18hurtful, that are stingers, that are zingers that hurt us,
- 25:22we get offended sometimes with that person who said those things.
- 25:27But we need to remember the fiery darts aimed at us
- 25:30came from Satan, and that
- 25:34person was perhaps an unknowing vessel
- 25:38that he used to get to you or to me.
- 25:43And so we need to put up our shield of faith
- 25:47that quenches, deflects those
- 25:50fiery darts. A really great example
- 25:55of someone who was really good at this that we can
- 25:58all relate to perhaps is Charlie Kirk,
- 26:02who was recently assassinated. And he would go
- 26:06on college campuses and put up a tent that says, ask me any question.
- 26:11Ask me, inviting them to come and talk to him,
- 26:14inviting them to have a dialogue, a discussion, a conversation.
- 26:18He would give people that, who were diametrically opposed
- 26:22to him, a microphone and allow
- 26:26them to speak and to ask questions. And he was always
- 26:30respectful, He listened. He was
- 26:34courteous. He was kind. He would listen
- 26:38to their questions or their comments, and then he would respond.
- 26:41And he never retaliated if they were rude
- 26:45to him, if they attacked him verbally or assaulted him verbally.
- 26:49He never retaliated. He simply listened,
- 26:54and then he would respond. He would have an answer.
- 26:58And again, if the person wasn't going to hear or receive
- 27:02what he had to say, he would usually conclude the conversation with,
- 27:06hey, I hear you. God bless you, and may
- 27:10you come to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He did
- 27:15not allow fiery darts coming from him,
- 27:19coming at him from the enemy to ruffle his
- 27:22feathers. He had his shield of faith up,
- 27:28and he always responded with kindness, with courtesy,
- 27:32and with respect to those who were
- 27:36diametrically opposed to him.
- 27:42Recently, his wife, Erica Kirk,
- 27:45on national TV shared her words at
- 27:49his memorial service,
- 27:52and the Spirit of God was truly upon
- 27:56her as she shared in tears to
- 28:01the killer of Charlie Kirk. She said,
- 28:05I forgive you.
- 28:10So when you want to look at an example of how to
- 28:13wear the spiritual armor, how to operate
- 28:17wearing the spiritual armor when you're around in a hostile
- 28:21environment, around people who are
- 28:25very much opposed to the things of God and to the Word
- 28:29of God, watch some of the Charlie Kirk
- 28:32video clips and see how he operated when
- 28:36he was in that kind of an environment. He's a great example.
- 28:41Of how to do that, how to keep your
- 28:45shield of faith up to quench those fiery darts. And remember,
- 28:49it's not coming from the person. It's coming from a
- 28:53demonic entity that is operating in and through that person,
- 28:57trying to get a rise up out of you. So when
- 29:01you remember that, and you remember to put on that
- 29:05spiritual armor and to wear it and to operate with it.
- 29:11It will serve you greatly. And remembering to pray at
- 29:16all times and on every occasion in the power of
- 29:20the Holy Spirit. Have a blessed day, and we'll see you
- 29:24tomorrow. Shalom.
