- 0:03Speaker 1: then we'll get into it.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Awesome, great, all.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Right, we're right.
- 0:12Speaker 4: Welcome back to PV and Franny Last Time.
- 0:14Speaker 5: Wait, hold on, they divided this into two podcast episodes.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Looks that way.
- 0:20Speaker 5: Why it's a thirty minute television pilot.
- 0:23Speaker 6: Capitalism, Franny Studio time doesn't pay for itself?
- 0:26Speaker 5: Fine, but why are we doing a recap?
- 0:28Speaker 7: All that really happened in the first episode is that
- 0:30Speaker 7: you and I met and decided to start a band together. Also,
- 0:34Speaker 7: you told me someone from the school orchestra left you
- 0:36Speaker 7: a hate note in your locker, but you're not sure
- 0:38Speaker 7: who who who? Also, you told me, in no uncertain
- 0:42Speaker 7: terms that you don't date bandmates, which is fine because
- 0:45Speaker 7: I definitely don't have a crush on you. That's threatening
- 0:47Speaker 7: to blow up into a foe on obsession.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Good to know, say, weren't you about to blame me
- 0:53Speaker 4: a song?
- 0:54Speaker 6: I was?
- 0:55Speaker 2: So let's get back to it BacT too. Interior V's
- 1:00Speaker 2: bedroom day. Franny's tuning his guitar.
- 1:04Speaker 5: It's always the best ring. It's like it hates me. Okay,
- 1:09Speaker 5: here we go.
- 1:10Speaker 1: He takes a deep breath and plays.
- 1:18Speaker 5: A second.
- 1:23Speaker 6: I thought, get.
- 1:31Speaker 8: Why does the moon look so big and other times
- 1:35Speaker 8: look so small? Why is it up there at all?
- 1:42Speaker 8: And how come this sun gets so hot and the
- 1:45Speaker 8: other times it is not like nighttime? Winter and fall?
- 1:51Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:56Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Anything anything, anything.
- 2:13Speaker 8: Except that I like you. Why do those weird colored
- 2:25Speaker 8: lights way up around the whole dance through the nice
- 2:29Speaker 8: guy sometimes?
- 2:33Speaker 2: And does that.
- 2:34Speaker 8: Magic curst world somehow explain how a girl can show
- 2:39Speaker 8: a sparkle and child. I don't know. I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 2:58Speaker 9: Anything anything, anything.
- 3:09Speaker 8: Except that I like you? Can the love feels so
- 3:35Speaker 8: big and make you feel oh so small? Why do
- 3:39Speaker 8: I bother?
- 3:41Speaker 1: A beat?
- 3:47Speaker 2: While Frannie waits for PV's reaction, PV smiles, Then Frannie smiles.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Then that was depressing.
- 3:57Speaker 2: PV and Franny looked to the doorway, standing there as
- 3:59Speaker 2: JOEA eighteen, one of Pev's infinite sisters, get out of
- 4:03Speaker 2: my room, Joanna, Fine, but Franny, you should consider a
- 4:07Speaker 2: diminished three chord instead of the minor four.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's less trite, Joanna leaves.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Who was that? And how did you know my name?
- 4:16Speaker 4: That's Joanna she's one of my sisters.
- 4:19Speaker 5: She doesn't look like you, and she.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Has awful taste in music. Maybe she's adopted or I am.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Now let's take a look at this.
- 4:26Speaker 1: PV takes out a photograph.
- 4:28Speaker 5: What is it?
- 4:29Speaker 6: The Overton Orchestra. We need to figure out who wrote
- 4:32Speaker 6: my hate note?
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh okay, inset a picture of the Overton Orchestra.
- 4:37Speaker 6: The handwriting definitely belongs to a boy, so we can
- 4:40Speaker 6: eliminate all the girls.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Two pass in the photo are xed out.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Not super helpful. What else do you know?
- 4:46Speaker 6: Well, the text of the note wasn't particularly brassy, and
- 4:50Speaker 6: everyone of string players struggle to express themselves in words.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Brass and strings are xed out, leaving only the percussionists,
- 4:57Speaker 2: timpani and triangle.
- 4:59Speaker 7: That leaves the tympane and the triangle. The tympanist is
- 5:02Speaker 7: Max Angler. He's good, real good.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Interior music room day, the band is playing. Max Angler
- 5:09Speaker 2: is reading a biography of Buddy Rich With his left hand.
- 5:12Speaker 2: He hits the timpany in time with the music, then
- 5:14Speaker 2: turns a page. Interior Pev's bedroom, continuous with before.
- 5:19Speaker 7: The triangleist is Ryazukibe, immaculate timing, but his dynamics can
- 5:24Speaker 7: be questionable.
- 5:25Speaker 4: We'll interview both of them tomorrow.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Okay, why is this so important to you anyway?
- 5:31Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 5:32Speaker 6: I just hate the thought that someone hates me. Wouldn't
- 5:35Speaker 6: that bother you?
- 5:36Speaker 8: No?
- 5:36Speaker 5: I assume most people hate me.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I probably do somehow. At some point, Joanna has re
- 5:43Speaker 1: entered the room.
- 5:44Speaker 6: Get out of here, Joanna, remember Franny three.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Cord?
- 5:53Speaker 2: She holds up three fingers and uses him to make
- 5:55Speaker 2: one of those I'm watching you gestures, then leaves.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Sorry, though she's probably right about the chord.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Interior Overton High Hallway, just outside the music room, the
- 6:06Speaker 2: members of the orchestra have begun to file in for practice.
- 6:09Speaker 2: PV and Franny wait outside until they spot Max.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Oh hey Max.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Max notices Franny and approaches.
- 6:16Speaker 5: What's up? Do you hate PV? Who's PV?
- 6:21Speaker 1: PV raises her hand.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Do I know you?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Wait?
- 6:24Speaker 5: Didn't you go into our practice last week and say
- 6:26Speaker 5: we all suck? I did? Yeah? I guess I do.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Short of hate her, Oh so you wrote the note?
- 6:34Speaker 5: What note?
- 6:35Speaker 1: PV holds up a folded note.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Nah, the only notes I write look like this.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He holds up his sheet music and points to a
- 6:42Speaker 2: musical note, then heads off.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I guess that means it's Russo, the.
- 6:46Speaker 5: Trianglest unless our methodology is flawed.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Well, we're about to find out which one's Russo.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Franny points him out.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I'll handle it this time.
- 6:56Speaker 1: She goes off to.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Talk to russoh Franni watches they talk for a few moments.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Then Pev comes back.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Was it him?
- 7:02Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 7:03Speaker 6: What do you say that it was him? Then he
- 7:05Speaker 6: asked me out on a date? Then I said, yes,
- 7:08Speaker 6: what a date? Like a movie or dinner?
- 7:11Speaker 8: I know what.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Let me see that note.
- 7:13Speaker 2: TV hands over the note. Frannie unfolds an inset. The
- 7:17Speaker 2: note is written in a small and serious hand, PV.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I think you are extremely beautiful.
- 7:23Speaker 5: This isn't a hate note, it's a love note.
- 7:25Speaker 6: I guess I read it more ironically, you know, like
- 7:29Speaker 6: I think you're extremely beautiful.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Why would you read it that way?
- 7:33Speaker 4: Anyway, mystery solved, Thanks for your help, Franny.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Franny looks on helplessly interior Franny's house. Evening, Franny sits
- 7:41Speaker 2: on the couch staring at the TV, which isn't on.
- 7:44Speaker 2: His mother enters. Marion Blevins is a loving but strident
- 7:47Speaker 2: woman who believes the world can be shaped by those
- 7:49Speaker 2: with the fortitude to bother trying.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I love this show.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Hey mom, something's wrong. What's wrong? I like a girl,
- 7:58Speaker 5: that's the problem.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yes, no, Marian sits down on the Cougary.
- 8:03Speaker 5: She says, we can't date since we're in a band together.
- 8:07Speaker 3: She's right, you should never date a neighbor or a
- 8:09Speaker 3: coworker or a yoga instructor.
- 8:13Speaker 5: But I really want to date her because she's amazing.
- 8:16Speaker 4: So don't be in a band with her.
- 8:18Speaker 5: But I really want to be in a band with
- 8:19Speaker 5: her because she's amazing. Oh that's tough. She sounds amazing
- 8:25Speaker 5: though she is.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Marian puts an arm around Franny. I just wish why
- 8:31Speaker 2: Harrian gestures.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Towards the TV, which still isn't on.
- 8:34Speaker 5: This is the best part.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Franny smiles. Interior Overton High Gymnasium. A dodgeball game is
- 8:41Speaker 2: on Franny's with aj. They dodgeballs as they talk.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And now PV and Russo are going out on a date.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Franny, that sucks.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Ajpeg's a kid, hard in the stomach.
- 8:53Speaker 3: You're an embarrassment to this court. Walk off, bitch. The
- 8:57Speaker 3: worst part is that he's my fault. I agree to
- 9:00Speaker 3: be in a band with her. I should one in everything.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Why can't you be in a band and date at
- 9:04Speaker 3: the same time? If we would and Mac did it,
- 9:07Speaker 3: That's what I said, AJ, being someone else.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I bet your.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Mama felt that. I bet her mama felt that. I
- 9:14Speaker 3: just shook your whole family tree son. Anyway, there's no
- 9:20Speaker 3: arguing with her. She's dating Ruso. Now I have to
- 9:23Speaker 3: accept it.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Unless AJ spots someone about to throw a ball at him.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I dare you. I'm begging you to throw.
- 9:29Speaker 1: That ball to throw her chickens out.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 9:32Speaker 1: He turns back to Franny.
- 9:34Speaker 3: If PEV won't date a band mate, you just need
- 9:36Speaker 3: to convince Riuso to join your band.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Of course, AJ, you're a genius.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I know.
- 9:43Speaker 1: AJ hits Franny with a ball ow.
- 9:46Speaker 5: We're on the same team.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And interior Overton High lunch room.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Later, PV is at the front of the lunch line,
- 9:55Speaker 2: paying for lunch, a butterfinger, two packages of Reese's Peanut buttercups,
- 9:59Speaker 2: and a red.
- 10:00Speaker 5: New State Law says, I have to tell you to
- 10:02Speaker 5: eat a salad. Okay, eat a salad.
- 10:11Speaker 6: That's my.
- 10:15Speaker 2: TV leaves the line and runs into Franny. Oh hey,
- 10:19Speaker 2: Franny notices PV's lunch.
- 10:21Speaker 5: You know, sugar is really bad for you.
- 10:23Speaker 7: I've got a book about it, but you don't have
- 10:25Speaker 7: to read it, you know, I'll probably just burn it anyway.
- 10:28Speaker 7: I had an idea, what's that? What if we added
- 10:33Speaker 7: Rusou to the band.
- 10:36Speaker 6: You said his triangle playing was dynamically uneven.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Yeah, we can work on that.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 10:41Speaker 6: We could use a percussionist. And now I know it
- 10:44Speaker 6: doesn't hate me.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Fine.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Suddenly, Aaron Coltrera edited her at large of the Overton
- 10:50Speaker 2: Free Press up hears behind PV and Franny, You guys
- 10:53Speaker 2: are in a band.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Just could make for a great trend piece.
- 10:56Speaker 4: What's the trend?
- 10:58Speaker 5: Bands are popping up everywhere? Look?
- 11:00Speaker 2: Aaron points toward a table of nerds playing a board
- 11:03Speaker 2: and dice game.
- 11:04Speaker 1: One of the nerds rolls the dice.
- 11:06Speaker 2: They make a cool clattering sound that everyone picks up on.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He rolls them again. Another nerd shuffles a stack of
- 11:12Speaker 2: cards and rhythm. Someone else taps metal figurines together. The
- 11:16Speaker 2: improvisation concludes with a collective distant explosion noise made by.
- 11:20Speaker 1: All the nerds at once lake It beat you. We're
- 11:24Speaker 1: back on, Aaron.
- 11:26Speaker 2: See, so do you plan to enter the Gentle Mediation
- 11:29Speaker 2: of the Bands next week?
- 11:31Speaker 5: What's that?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Aaron points to a poster on the lunch room wall.
- 11:35Speaker 2: The title reads, Gentle Mediation of the Bands. Many will enter,
- 11:39Speaker 2: only everyone will receive a participation trophy.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Principal Kenney thinks Battle of the Band sounds too violent.
- 11:46Speaker 5: So are you guys in? Of course, and we're going
- 11:49Speaker 5: to win?
- 11:51Speaker 4: Aaron, would you excuse us for a moment, all of
- 11:54Speaker 4: this was off the record.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Franny Drag's PV away accidentally knocking into the Bulldog mascot
- 11:59Speaker 2: on the way out of the lunch room.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Can I sorry, that's my fault, right wrong? It's clearly
- 12:05Speaker 5: peev dregs for anyway.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, okay, yeah, I'm done.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Uh.
- 12:16Speaker 2: PV drags Frannie away, accidentally knocking into the Bulldog mascot
- 12:20Speaker 2: on the way out of the lunch room.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Can I at least so you as an anonymous source? Well, anonymous? Anonymous?
- 12:27Speaker 5: Anonymous as an anonymous source? Okay, got? Can I at
- 12:32Speaker 5: least site you as an anonymous source?
- 12:35Speaker 3: No democracy dies in darkness interior Overton High.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Moments later, PV drags Franny to the hallway outside the
- 12:42Speaker 2: lunch room.
- 12:43Speaker 6: What's wrong, We've only had one rehearsal, Franny. We shouldn't
- 12:47Speaker 6: be entering competitions or doing interviews.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Why not just talk to Russeoh okay, we need to.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Get our lineup in place before we start thinking about
- 12:56Speaker 6: winning prizes.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Okay.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Peev walks off.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Franny looks over at the trash can and sees a
- 13:03Speaker 2: kid hidden inside.
- 13:05Speaker 5: I'm playing hide and seek. I've been in here since yesterday.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Nobody's found me impressive.
- 13:13Speaker 8: Yeah, it isn't as satisfying as I'd expected.
- 13:17Speaker 2: They both consider this interior Overton High practice room afternoon,
- 13:22Speaker 2: a very small practice room with soundproof walls and a
- 13:25Speaker 2: grand piano. Russo, who is very serious, sits with his
- 13:28Speaker 2: eyes closed, listening to him mastering the triangle tape.
- 13:32Speaker 10: Franni enters, you must treat the triangle, be caring for independent,
- 13:42Speaker 10: never let her sense your fear.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Hello.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Russo switches off the tape deck.
- 13:48Speaker 5: Franny, how are you my friend?
- 13:51Speaker 7: Sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to let you know
- 13:53Speaker 7: you've been invited to join my band.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Our band me and Peev. Heeve wants me to join
- 13:59Speaker 5: her band.
- 14:00Speaker 7: Yes, we both do our band. So RUSAL's aren't thursdays.
- 14:03Speaker 7: I'll text you the address.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Russeau suddenly hugs Franni.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Thank you, my friend, my brother, my band mate. I'm
- 14:11Speaker 5: going to treat Peev just like my triangle. Okay.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Franny leaves.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Russeau joyfully taps the triangle interior PV's bedroom. The following Thursday,
- 14:21Speaker 2: Franni enters, PV is at her recording station.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Hey, PV, where's Russo? He isn't here yet, he's out
- 14:28Speaker 5: of the band. What why I ran into him yesterday
- 14:32Speaker 5: at school?
- 14:33Speaker 2: Yes exterior Overton High Hallway flashback, PV, wearing a face mask,
- 14:37Speaker 2: is spray painting the inside of her locker black.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Russeau approaches PV.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I just wanted to tell you how excited I am
- 14:44Speaker 5: to be in the band.
- 14:45Speaker 4: More excited too.
- 14:46Speaker 1: They shake hands.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Also, I thought we could perhaps plan our date now.
- 14:51Speaker 1: PV takes off the mask.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Didn't Franny tell you? I don't date my bandmates. It's
- 14:56Speaker 4: a rule I have.
- 14:57Speaker 5: But what about Fleetwood Mac exception? That proves the rule. Okay,
- 15:02Speaker 5: then I don't want to be in the band.
- 15:04Speaker 4: It was good having you.
- 15:05Speaker 5: They shake hands, so we can still go out on Friday.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Looking forward, carrer PV's bedroom, continuous with before Franny's Franny
- 15:16Speaker 2: is so, Franny is shells what's Franni? Franny is shell
- 15:21Speaker 2: shocked at his plans failure.
- 15:23Speaker 4: But but I it's fine.
- 15:26Speaker 6: I heard him play the triangle and you were right,
- 15:28Speaker 6: dynamics all over the place. Besides, I think we're better
- 15:32Speaker 6: as a duo.
- 15:33Speaker 5: We are, aren't we?
- 15:34Speaker 6: And you know what this right here, this relationship between bandmates,
- 15:39Speaker 6: that's the most intimate relationship there is way deeper than
- 15:43Speaker 6: some stupid boyfriend.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Totally wait, rutho's your boyfriend now?
- 15:49Speaker 6: Anyway, I guess we should start rehearsing that gentle mediation
- 15:53Speaker 6: of the bands isn't going to win itself.
- 15:55Speaker 5: I thought you didn't want to enter.
- 15:56Speaker 4: I know it's a long shot, but I believe in us.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Sure it won't be easy. There will be setbacks.
- 16:03Speaker 6: It might even take the whole season, the whole what
- 16:06Speaker 6: all a full semester, But it'll be worth it when
- 16:08Speaker 6: we hoist that first place participation trophy over our heads,
- 16:12Speaker 6: knowing that we accomplish something nobody thought we could smash.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Cut two interior auditorium night.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Liu Chin, a small Chinese girl wearing an Accordion receives
- 16:22Speaker 2: an extremely large trophy from Principal Kenney forties.
- 16:26Speaker 1: The audience applauds wildly, and our.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Winner is Liu Chin for that stirring rendition of Gorka hermosis.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Fragileu raises the massive trophy overhead. PEV and Franny watch
- 16:39Speaker 2: from the audience. They each hold a very small participation trophy.
- 16:43Speaker 6: On the other hand, early success can have its own drawbacks.
- 16:47Speaker 1: The weight of the trophy causes Leo to fall over backward.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Students rush to help her.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I think that's very true.
- 16:54Speaker 4: You want to go write a song?
- 16:56Speaker 1: I do. They walk out of the auditorium.
- 16:59Speaker 2: On the way, they throw their participation trophies in the trash.
- 17:02Speaker 2: We stay on the trophies for a beat. Then a large,
- 17:05Speaker 2: fuzzy mit reaches into the trash and pulls one of
- 17:07Speaker 2: the trophies back out. Pulling back, we see it's the
- 17:11Speaker 2: Bulldog mascot. He scans the plaque on the front of
- 17:14Speaker 2: the trophy. It reads congratulations PV and Franny. It is
- 17:19Speaker 2: better to have participated and lost than never to have
- 17:22Speaker 2: participated at all. The Bulldog looks up watching his PV
- 17:26Speaker 2: and Franny leave the auditorium together.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Who's in there anyway, what's he thinking?
- 17:32Speaker 2: We don't know, and maybe we never will know, because
- 17:34Speaker 2: that's the end of this unproduced television pilot
- 17:38Speaker 10: The end, and then we'll do it.
