Transcript
- 0:00Speaker: Happy Monday.
- 0:01Speaker: I came across a quote I can't stop thinking about.
- 0:06Speaker: It's super simple, only five words.
- 0:09Speaker: Be where your feet are.
- 0:11Speaker: Honestly, I kind of marvel at this one because it's so short and it says so much.
- 0:18Speaker: Be where your feet are.
- 0:19Speaker: And it kind of cracks me up at the same time.
- 0:22Speaker: But also, if I'm honest, I'm rarely where my feet are, especially on a Monday morning.
- 0:30Speaker: My mind is already somewhere else, usually in the future.
- 0:34Speaker: Even this morning, I was thinking about a project that I have no idea when I'm going to make time for, paperwork that I keep avoiding, a medical appointment that's coming up for someone I love, and all the worry that my brain somehow labels as preparation.
- 0:51Speaker: It's as if thinking about these things more is somehow going to make me more ready or make it easier when really it just pulls me out of the moment I'm actually living.
- 1:04Speaker: So my mind was everywhere except here.
- 1:09Speaker: And I also love this expression because I can actually visualize it.
- 1:15Speaker: Where are my feet?
- 1:17Speaker: And where's the rest of me right now?
- 1:20Speaker: Meaning, where is my mind living?
- 1:22Speaker: Because this moment right here, it's the only place we actually have any real power.
- 1:28Speaker: Now, it doesn't mean we never think about the future and it doesn't mean that we don't plan.
- 1:34Speaker: Planning can be super useful.
- 1:37Speaker: But for me, most of that future thinking really isn't constructive planning, it's anxiety in disguise.
- 1:45Speaker: So this weekend, I tried something different.
- 1:48Speaker: I tried being where my feet were.
- 1:51Speaker: I had a very long to- do list and my body was tired, like really tired.
- 1:58Speaker: And the idea of resting with that list sitting there felt, I don't know, incredibly irresponsible, I would say.
- 2:07Speaker: But I decided to just be present with what was actually true.
- 2:13Speaker: And what was true was that I needed rest.
- 2:17Speaker: And so that's what I did.
- 2:19Speaker: I stayed there for a few hours, and by there I mean on my sofa, just resting.
- 2:26Speaker: And I trusted that what needed to get done would get done.
- 2:31Speaker: Now, I'm not gonna tell you that I suddenly got everything done after that.
- 2:36Speaker: That would be a lie and, well, you know how I feel about lies, so.
- 2:41Speaker: Um, however, I can say something shifted.
- 2:46Speaker: The anxiety I was feeling before, it definitely decreased and that noise in my head got quieter.
- 2:55Speaker: And I was actually able to take care of a few things that were critical for me to get done that day and do it without that constant pressure running in the background.
- 3:08Speaker: So I don't know what this looks like for you today, but maybe just for today, you can treat this as an experiment.
- 3:18Speaker: Come back to where your feet are.
- 3:21Speaker: Focus on what's actually in front of you and trust that taking care of this moment creates space for the next one.
- 3:30Speaker: That's my wish for you today.
- 3:33Speaker: Cheers.
