- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:09That's not a knife. This is a knife.
- 0:14His favorite scary movie. The podcast where we talk about
- 0:17the good, about the ugly and the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:20Family's favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:23movie rightfully has his fan base.
- 0:24Even if we don't always get it. My name's Travis.
- 0:27My name's Jesse and we're going to the Outback this week,
- 0:30everybody. We are talking about Wolf Creek.
- 0:33If you couldn't tell from my flawless Australian impression.
- 0:38For those of you that were disappointed and thought for a
- 0:41moment that we actually had John Jarrett on this episode, well,
- 0:45I've got a surprise for you. It's Jesse.
- 0:47It's me. He's not going to be here.
- 0:48Yeah, it it pains me. I wish we could have him here,
- 0:51but. I do also need to apologize
- 0:53because I'm not wearing my Jeff Jarrett muscle tank.
- 0:56Damn either like I promise you, you dropped you didn't have to
- 0:59ruin that bit of magic for them. I'm.
- 1:01So sorry. But you know it, yeah.
- 1:04Whatever. Where later today, just to honor
- 1:06him. OK, you have to.
- 1:09Wait, which Jared? Yes, both of us.
- 1:13I watched a match yesterday of wrestling that had Jeff or yeah,
- 1:17Jeff Jarrett yesterday. So, you know, like, whatever.
- 1:19Yeah. OK.
- 1:20All right, So, yeah, we're talking about Wolf Creek.
- 1:23But before we get into the episode of all of that, do we
- 1:27have any announcements? We do.
- 1:29We did our QB or nod to be last weekend.
- 1:31We covered actually our only Valentine's theme kind of movie
- 1:36of the month. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:39We took the opportunity to do a Valentine's Day movie for A to
- 1:42Be or Not to Be. We talked about X-ray, also
- 1:44known as Hospital Massacre. Also known as.
- 1:47I forget what the other one was. They're like 5 different names,
- 1:49but those are the two most notable names.
- 1:50Yeah, yeah, that was a lot of fun.
- 1:53We had to go time with it. Go listen.
- 1:56Yeah, yeah, it was a good time. Let's get into it.
- 1:58Then All right, let's get into it, OK?
- 2:01So Wolf Creek released January. Oh yeah, I didn't actually have
- 2:07an actual day. It was.
- 2:08It premiered. It premiered sometime in January
- 2:112005 at the Sundance Film Festival.
- 2:14Wide release on Christmas Day of 2005.
- 2:17OK, OK. We watched it on our DVD, but if
- 2:21you would like to watch it in February of 2026, you can stream
- 2:24it on Tubi, Hoopla, Fandango at Home, Plex, or Fossum.
- 2:28If you prefer for whatever reason that you would like to
- 2:31rent from some of these options that have free offerings on that
- 2:34very platform itself, you can rent it from Fandango.
- 2:38You can rent it on Prime Apple TV and YouTube.
- 2:41Also OK. Written and directed by Greg
- 2:43McQueen, music by Francois Titaez, special effects makeup
- 2:47by Conley. Makeup effects team starring
- 2:50John Jerry as Nick Taylor, Cassandra McGrath as Liz,
- 2:55casting Morrissey as Christy and Nathan Phillips as Ben.
- 3:00OK Jesse. Time for a favorite game on the
- 3:02show. Budget or?
- 3:04Budget. This is the part where I must
- 3:09reveal that I was actually in the room cleaning when I heard
- 3:14you watching this part of the BTS.
- 3:18Again, Jesse, you're ruining the magic.
- 3:20I'm sorry, I'm just pulling down that curtain.
- 3:24It's not even a peek behind. There's no more curtain.
- 3:26No, I heard them say that they purposely were trying to do
- 3:30under like a smaller budget. Yeah.
- 3:32So they did reportedly around 1.4 million.
- 3:37This is going into the fun facts a little bit, but sorry, the the
- 3:40goal ultimately was that they wanted to do a $5,000,000 movie
- 3:46with a $1 million budget. OK.
- 3:48So this is where we're at with the, IT had an opening box
- 3:52office of 2.8 million worldwide gross 30 million.
- 3:55Damn. I didn't realize it did that
- 3:57well. I didn't either.
- 3:59IMDb 6.2 OK I am happy that it has a good score.
- 4:04All right so I have 3 movies that came out in 2005 with a
- 4:09theme. OK, the theme I have here is
- 4:13Tourism is Deadly. Is Hostile one of the movies?
- 4:17This is the very first one I had here.
- 4:19Did you also walk in on me when I wrote Hostile Jesse?
- 4:22No, OK, well, maybe I don't know.
- 4:24I wasn't looking at your iPad. OK good.
- 4:26Well Hostile. Released September 17th, 2005.
- 4:304.8 million budget 82,000,000 gross 5.9 on IMDb.
- 4:37I remember I went to the theatres with my dad for that
- 4:39one and I was so embarrassed that I was watching nudity with
- 4:44my dad that I tipped my cap down and I just pretended like I
- 4:48wasn't staring at the stuff going on there.
- 4:52OK movie #2 House of Wax. I also had a feeling House of
- 4:56Wax is going to be on it. Oh, you did?
- 4:57Did. You.
- 4:58Yeah, it's the JPADS of it all. Yeah, OK, well, House of Wax.
- 5:02Oh my God, he isn't that. Yeah.
- 5:04OK. House of Wax released May 6th,
- 5:072005, $40 million budget. Yeah, I don't remember it being
- 5:10that big, but it was pretty big, $70 million gross, 5.5 IMDb.
- 5:15OK. And the final movie, The
- 5:18Descent. I didn't.
- 5:20I didn't know where you're going to say that one.
- 5:22I didn't think so. I had to make sure that that was
- 5:24one where they actually did travel.
- 5:25They are from I think the like Europe, UK.
- 5:31Whatever. Yeah, and they they traveled to
- 5:35the Appalachian Mountains to do their little deep dive cave in
- 5:39spelunking. They were actually going on
- 5:42uncharted caves. Yeah.
- 5:44So we talked about all three of these movies.
- 5:46Juno. Juno.
- 5:47No, Juno was Juno cave. Juno Cave.
- 5:50OK, I see what you're doing. Yeah, I remember.
- 5:52She's like, what? Are we going to name this?
- 5:54Like we should name it after, like one of us, right?
- 5:55Like Juno. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:58OK. Yeah.
- 5:58So that came out July 6th, 2005. God, what is this?
- 6:02Oh, right. That's a pound.
- 6:04I wrote a pound because they had £3.5 million for their budget.
- 6:08Well, that British. British, but the worldwide gross
- 6:11is in dollars, $57 million. That is that.
- 6:15Happened on one of the ones I looked up last week too.
- 6:17It was Hellraiser. OK.
- 6:20Yeah, I remember. So IMDb 7.2.
- 6:25All right, Yeah, all right. That was a banger.
- 6:27That was a great movie. Yeah.
- 6:29And we have talked about all three of these.
- 6:30Mm Hmm. Yep.
- 6:31So I have two tag lines. First one, the thrill is in the
- 6:35hunt. Thrill of the hunt.
- 6:39The thrill of the hunt is in the hunt.
- 6:41The. Smell of the shunt.
- 6:43The thrill is in the shunt. I bet Mick would be into that,
- 6:47but he is not society enough for.
- 6:49That yeah, he, he's not in that class.
- 6:51He's he's the opposite, the polar opposite of that class,
- 6:54which is also weird in its own distinct way.
- 6:57Yeah. And the final tagline, How can
- 7:00you be found when no one knows you're missing?
- 7:03That's true because they were planning a super long trip
- 7:06across the Outback anyway. Yep.
- 7:10All right, so it's time for fun facts.
- 7:13So yes, this movie is based off of true events.
- 7:16We have some incidents of people going missing in the Outback
- 7:20that inspired it. There were two cases in
- 7:22particular, one of serial killer Ivan Melo, which happened in 99,
- 7:28and there was also Bradley Murdoch in 2001.
- 7:30I don't think Bradley Murdoch was a killer.
- 7:32Maybe he was. He may have been a victim.
- 7:33I didn't do much research myself in that, but the idea for the
- 7:37movie was originally conceived in 1997, and the Queen had
- 7:41originally written as just a straightforward slasher, but by
- 7:45the time he finished it, he didn't really like it.
- 7:48So he saw the incident of Ivan Mollott and he got inspired to
- 7:54do a retooling of the script. And this time he wanted to
- 7:59basically take an evil character that is distinctly Aussie and
- 8:06put them out in the wilderness and have people stuck with him
- 8:09and just basically make it a movie of like 3 people stuck
- 8:12with the most evil Aussie that you could imagine.
- 8:16Yeah. So he went in with that in mind
- 8:18and he did it. The figures that inspired Mick
- 8:22Taylor's character where he he tried to go for like very
- 8:26distinct Australian personalities.
- 8:28So one of them, Steve Irwin, which I think that is the more
- 8:33jovial side of Mctaylor that we see where he's kind of friendly
- 8:35with the people. The other Ivan Moab.
- 8:39OK, sorry, I was. Yeah, I was pulling something up
- 8:42because, you know, we've talked about true crime on this podcast
- 8:46quite a bit, and there's a lot of like, podcasts and shows and
- 8:51stuff that are a little bit predatory about it.
- 8:56But Case File is one of those that's very consistently like,
- 8:59works be respectful. And they've done a few episodes
- 9:02of cases that claim to be loosely inspiring to Wolf Creek.
- 9:07So I was just going to plug those if anybody was curious
- 9:12about it. So the episode one O 9, Bill
- 9:15Anglo and then Peter Falconeo. So those are the the episodes
- 9:22that talk about it. OK.
- 9:23Interesting. Yeah, I think that there were
- 9:24there were multiple cases that really inspire this.
- 9:27It wasn't just those two in particular.
- 9:29I think that's where he got most of his inspiration from, but it
- 9:32was all of them in general that kind of did.
- 9:34Yeah. So there's there's, there's a
- 9:36lot going on. And if you want to know more
- 9:37about those actual cases and what happened and how you know
- 9:41the killers were found or not found, because I have a lot on
- 9:44case file too, go check those out.
- 9:47It's a great podcast if you want to listen to true crime in a
- 9:50like that's respectful of the victims.
- 9:53You're welcome. Case file, You need your help.
- 9:55Clearly you need us to plug you. Clearly, Yeah.
- 10:01O Jarrah was actually cast within 10 minutes of his first
- 10:04meeting with the director. Like the guy wanted somebody
- 10:06that would erfectly encapsulate the set of character.
- 10:08And he knew within 10 minutes of having coffee with this guy that
- 10:11he was the guy, which was really cool.
- 10:14And John Jarrett went like fucking method with it.
- 10:17He actually went and spent weeks isolated out in the Outback to
- 10:22try and, like, get ahold of what this role would be like, how to
- 10:26be this type of guy. So Kessie got her role after one
- 10:29of the other actors that was supposed to be in there dropped
- 10:31off, and Morrissey actually was scheduled to do her own a broad
- 10:35backpacking trip when she was given the role for this right
- 10:37here. So it was kind of a coincidence
- 10:39that it happened that way. The goal was to make the film
- 10:41like a $5,000,000 film with a $1 million budget.
- 10:43They did it with a HD Cam is what it was.
- 10:46It was basically like a little camcorder that shot in HD, which
- 10:49was revolutionary ish technology of the time, but it was almost
- 10:53entirely shot handheld, which was kind of interesting.
- 10:56Yeah, also a really cool thing. So in the movie, they make it to
- 11:00Wolf Creek and they're like commenting about how it's like a
- 11:04rainy day and it's very strange. And, you know, they didn't
- 11:06really think that, like, you know, it was out of the norm for
- 11:10them. That was actually a realistic
- 11:13thing that happened to them. So they went and they filmed at
- 11:16that location. That is a location that had not
- 11:18seen rain in six years, but it suddenly started raining the day
- 11:22that they showed up for filming and it rained for days straight.
- 11:25So they had to work it into the film.
- 11:27So that is why they have that moment in the movie.
- 11:29Wow. Yeah.
- 11:30Which is kind of crazy. Also Mix Camp that he has set up
- 11:35in the movie. That's an actual murder site.
- 11:39Icky. Yeah, like somebody actually was
- 11:42killed there and that upset the locals because they thought that
- 11:44they were making a movie based off of that incident alone right
- 11:47there. I don't know if they went into
- 11:49that knowing that that was an actual murder site, but yeah,
- 11:52like that is actually where somebody was killed.
- 11:56Oh, I don't like that. It is a little bit upsetting.
- 11:59Is the Wolf Creek Crater a real thing?
- 12:02It is a real thing, yes, and is. It actually called that, yeah.
- 12:05OK, Yeah, it is a real thing. The shot, the helicopter shot
- 12:09that we have of the crater that was the actual Wolf Creek crater
- 12:13where they filmed it at was not. They just went to like that
- 12:17random ledge out in the Outback and filmed there.
- 12:20OK. Yeah.
- 12:22So yeah, that's it for the fun facts I have.
- 12:24So let's do our good, bad, ugly, and I'm sure Jesse, kick it off.
- 12:27What do you like about this? Oh man, this is just scary
- 12:30scenario to find yourself in. Like the thought of traveling
- 12:34through the Outback alone is already really scary because it
- 12:36is just thousands of miles of nothing.
- 12:41That's the thing that like, I've never had to do a trip like
- 12:43that. Like I think the most I've ever
- 12:45had to do anything like that is like driving from my home in
- 12:48Harlan to your home in Hopkinsville, that I think it's
- 12:51Bluegrass Pkwy or something like that, or it was one of the roads
- 12:55that we took to get to each other.
- 12:57It was just a bunch. It's just a long stretch of
- 12:59nothing. The BGP does have a long stretch
- 13:02where you you have to know to pee before you hit that long
- 13:05stretch. Yeah, and I guess if you need
- 13:07it. And I've never, like, taken a
- 13:10like, I know that there are like long stretches of that, like in
- 13:12Texas and stuff like that, where it's just in desert.
- 13:14And yeah, the idea of that is just terrifying, being stranded
- 13:17out there by yourself. And like them having the gas
- 13:19tank so soon, they're saying like, what happens if you run
- 13:21out of gas and then filling up that extra gas tank?
- 13:23I was like, OK, that makes sense.
- 13:25And then, like, what do you do in this situation where your car
- 13:27just stops working? And I know that it's implied
- 13:31that Mick fucked with their car while they're hiking, and that's
- 13:34fine, but it's also weird that their watches would stop, too.
- 13:37So that was just kind of a funny coincidence that happened at the
- 13:41same time. So yeah, just being in a
- 13:43situation where you're just insanely vulnerable and you're
- 13:45like, kind of straddling the line of like, I'm really broke.
- 13:49We don't know who this guy is. We need to get back to where
- 13:51we're going. We're stranded.
- 13:52What do we do? Do we just hope this guy isn't a
- 13:55murderer? Like it, it feels very
- 13:57realistic. And the the way things just like
- 14:03turn so quickly. It goes from just like, you
- 14:05know, an indie Rd. tripping movie to oh, we we're fighting
- 14:11for survival. And the way it keeps shifting
- 14:14focus between the characters that you never really have, like
- 14:17a main character. And I also feel like that moment
- 14:23at the like at Christie's death when he shoots her, it kind of
- 14:28gives me the same feeling as in like terror fire where he's just
- 14:31like done fucking with her and pulls out a gun.
- 14:35Yeah, yeah. So I like there's just a lot of
- 14:38moments where it's just like Grizzly and I think it's really
- 14:44effective in that way. OK.
- 14:46I agree with a lot of that right there.
- 14:48Yeah. Like one of the things that I
- 14:50thought was really cool about this movie is if you went into
- 14:53this movie entirely blind, there is a chance that in the 1st 40
- 14:58minutes, you think that you might be watching a UFO movie.
- 15:01Yeah. Which I thought was really cool
- 15:03because, like, I had forgotten about that being a part of it
- 15:06until we rewatched it. Like, I think October is when we
- 15:09last watched it. But like, it really does a good
- 15:11job. Like, it is that type of movie.
- 15:14Like, they are experiencing some weird shit that you're going to
- 15:17wear. Me dear Landed suddenly way
- 15:19their shit stops working. You know, I guess all the
- 15:22makings of that type of movie and then suddenly Mick Taylor
- 15:26shows up. Yeah, and that is such a fucking
- 15:31good character. Like he is written and performed
- 15:34so well. It was really weird when I was
- 15:37like walking through the room and he would have his like
- 15:40little moments on the behind the scenes and I'm like, I know that
- 15:43that's him, but he sounds. Yeah, he just does such a good
- 15:50job of he knows how to like turn it.
- 15:55Like he has those moments where he is being very friendly and
- 15:58just joking around and paling with him.
- 16:00And then he also, it's, it's crazy because it's a very
- 16:04distinct difference because he's also like that when he is
- 16:08fucking with them. But it's much more menacing the
- 16:11way he does it. And I don't know how to describe
- 16:13that, but that takes some fucking talent to be able to do
- 16:16that. It's.
- 16:16Almost more menacing because he doesn't seem to change when he
- 16:19is doing it. So you've got, like, these women
- 16:22just bloody and screaming. And he is like, yeah, almost
- 16:26more gleeful in the moment than he is when they're all, like,
- 16:29chilling and laughing by the fire.
- 16:30It's like it's true self. You can actually be him.
- 16:33Yeah. And it's just so fucking well
- 16:36done. The cat and mouse that goes on
- 16:38in this is really well done. I just like how it, yeah, like
- 16:43the the shift of it once they wake up and they are like all
- 16:47tied up. It's just like, holy shit.
- 16:50It's it kind of catches you off guard.
- 16:52And it is so aggressive that it is just incredibly effective.
- 16:59It's just really well done. I, I like this movie so much and
- 17:03I like how they build up the relationship of everybody
- 17:05beforehand. Like, we get to know these guys
- 17:07for a while and they like have a very believable dynamic between
- 17:12each other and it makes just seeing what all they go through
- 17:15that much more painful. Yeah.
- 17:18Yeah, and I just, they, they did a great job of this movie.
- 17:22My bad. I'm going to disagree with you a
- 17:24little bit because I feel like the Ben and Liz romance was a
- 17:27little bit forced. OK.
- 17:30I didn't feel that chemistry between them.
- 17:32I think the closest I got was after they kissed their cute
- 17:34like little like they both looked flustered and happy.
- 17:37I think that was the most chemistry I felt between them.
- 17:39But the way like they came in like sent something between you
- 17:42guys and it seemed like there was more something between
- 17:45Christy and Ben. So.
- 17:48So let me go over something here.
- 17:50Originally we watched the uncut version, OK, which does have
- 17:54some differences. OK, So that moment with Christy
- 17:57and Ben where they wake up next to each other in the bed after
- 18:01that night of partying, that was a cut scene originally.
- 18:04OK. That they removed because it
- 18:06caused confusion of like the romantic dynamic between
- 18:10everybody here. I feel that.
- 18:13Yeah, which I don't think anything happened at that
- 18:15moment. I just think that they got drunk
- 18:17and they both fell asleep in the bed together.
- 18:18I think the only thing that's a little bit confusing about it is
- 18:20Chrissy's little smile when she gets up.
- 18:24Yeah, a little bit, yeah, I mean.
- 18:25Just a little sheepish, a little happy.
- 18:27Yeah. So they they got rid of that.
- 18:29The other cutscene, by the way, just to go ahead and get ahead
- 18:31of that is when she finds the revolver and she goes or the
- 18:38Magnum I guess, and like she goes down and finds all those
- 18:41dead bodies. They cut that whole thing where
- 18:43she like goes down there and finds all those dead bodies
- 18:47because apparently it was too much so.
- 18:50All right, that helps set up the sequel a lot better, though.
- 18:53It does, because otherwise the sequel is like, whoa, what the
- 18:55fuck? How?
- 18:56How has he been? Where was he hiding this?
- 18:59I mean, I've always thought, you know, it's the Outback, like,
- 19:02you know, just leave it out there.
- 19:03Nobody will find it. Like where people you don't know
- 19:06where to look for this shit. OK.
- 19:08But sorry, go ahead, go ahead. Oh, that was that was really my
- 19:11biggest thing. It's just that like it felt, I
- 19:15mean, yeah, it just felt a little bit forced.
- 19:19OK, the only bad I have for this is it loses a tad bit of steam
- 19:24in the second-half whenever it's like they they do all the things
- 19:30too fast whenever Liz wakes up. Like, we could have hung there
- 19:35at the camp for a little bit longer and like, have them have
- 19:38his moment with all three of them.
- 19:40But she gets escaped and gets Christie out of there so soon
- 19:44that the movie is like, whoa, we got time left, what are we going
- 19:47to do? Yeah, it does kind of feel like
- 19:50that. Yeah, like so Ben.
- 19:51They leave Ben like untouched until the end.
- 19:55Like we don't even see his show we we just see like glimpses of
- 19:58him waking up occasionally. I do think it's very realistic
- 20:02that like, both Liz and Ben had those moments when they're just
- 20:05like, ready to, they don't see the others around and they're
- 20:10like, I just got to assume that they're gone and I got to save
- 20:12myself. And if I can come back, I will.
- 20:14Like, they both had those moments.
- 20:15The only reason Liz turned back was because she heard Chrissy
- 20:17scream. Yeah.
- 20:19So I thought that was that was a realistic way for them to
- 20:21approach it. But I have other thoughts on
- 20:23that that I'll talk about in a second.
- 20:24OK, yeah, I agree with that. But like, yeah, it just, there's
- 20:27a little bit of meandering after that.
- 20:30Like it was just, you know, like he's looking for them and then
- 20:33he finds them and then he shoots them.
- 20:35And, you know, like, it could have been a little bit tighter,
- 20:38OK, in that area. Very ugly.
- 20:41Ugly honestly finding out that they shot at a murder site, even
- 20:45if it was unintentional, the fact that it was like at a
- 20:47murder site and like they're loosely based on actual real
- 20:50murders. No, I know that's probably
- 20:51crazy. It gives me the ick.
- 20:53I can't believe they did that. Yeah, my ugly was that scene
- 20:57with Christy with he's torturing her and she's tied to the post.
- 21:01Like, one of the things I was reading is during that scene,
- 21:06the actor that played Christie was so believable with her
- 21:10screaming that the women on set, like, were like, crying.
- 21:14Like, they're like, make it stop.
- 21:16Yeah. And I can understand that
- 21:18because what he is like doing with her is so fucked up.
- 21:21It is. It's upsetting.
- 21:23Yeah, it's a really, really upsetting scene.
- 21:25But you know, like that, unfortunately, that's just like
- 21:28one of these movies where we're following that kind of guy.
- 21:31So, you know, I hate to see it, but it plays well with the movie
- 21:35that we're doing here. Like, we know that he's kept
- 21:39people alive for months. And Christy, that's even one of
- 21:42those things she cries about at one point.
- 21:43Like, she's like, that's what's going to happen to us.
- 21:45We don't know what happened with Liz at the end.
- 21:48Yeah, she was still alive the last time we saw her, but she
- 21:50couldn't do anything to save herself.
- 21:52The only thing that I could take away from that is she doesn't
- 21:55feel any pain, but she still has to deal with it all mentally.
- 22:00Unfortunately, yeah. It it's so fucked up.
- 22:04Alright, like that it just it makes me feel a little empty and
- 22:08then in the movie it's. Dark.
- 22:09This movie gets really, really dark.
- 22:11Yeah. OK.
- 22:12Absurd. OK, so we already kind of talked
- 22:15about this. So Liz manages to get herself
- 22:18free. She wakes up.
- 22:19She wakes up in the morning. It takes her most of the day to
- 22:22be able to cut through the the zip ties with the glass.
- 22:26And I get that. Like, she was bloody by the end
- 22:28of it. She had her moment where she was
- 22:29like panicking, couldn't figure out what's happening.
- 22:31That's fine. I'll accept all of that.
- 22:33She's going to leave. She finds Ben's shoes.
- 22:35She's going to leave. And then she hears Christy
- 22:37screaming. So she's like, OK, well, I'm
- 22:38going to go save Christy. And then, you know, she asked
- 22:41Christy, have we seen Bendy? Nowhere.
- 22:42He has no. OK, cool.
- 22:43We need to prioritize just getting out.
- 22:46That's all fine. And then they're out driving,
- 22:49being followed, all of that all night.
- 22:52And then Christy goes back and it's the morning again.
- 22:54Or Liz goes back and then it's the morning again and Christy
- 22:58sees there's no Liz. So she's like, well, I'm just
- 22:59going to start walking slash running.
- 23:02And then that whole chase scene with her and Mick.
- 23:06And then it's night time again and it seems as though maybe Ben
- 23:10has just now woken up. Yeah, days.
- 23:13It it feels like, it feels like it doesn't follow.
- 23:18It's yeah, like I think that that's what we are meant to
- 23:22believe, that like he was out for days.
- 23:25But you know, I guess possibly it could have been any of those
- 23:28days that he like did that. Yeah, but he didn't hear like
- 23:31the screaming from Liz and Christy.
- 23:33I feel like he would have heard some of that at some point, but
- 23:36it seems like he got out after all of that other stuff went
- 23:39down. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:42So that's just that. It felt very much like, OK,
- 23:46we're just going to write Ben off is dead.
- 23:47We're ending on this bleak thing where, you know, make his shot,
- 23:51Christy. And then no, Ben's actually
- 23:53still alive and he's gotten a really long nap.
- 23:56Yeah, and he's the sole survivor.
- 23:57Yeah, yeah, I get that. It's like, I don't know, was Ben
- 24:05drinking more rainwater than the others?
- 24:07Like did he get more drugged? Was the aliens.
- 24:10This wasn't an Alien movie after all.
- 24:12Okay. My absurd.
- 24:14He was just like abducted in that 48 hours.
- 24:17I mean he was crucified dude. Like they thought he was Christ,
- 24:23like this Aussie bloke I have from my absurd just how he is
- 24:27able to find these people out in the Outback so easily when they
- 24:31get away. Like they could go any
- 24:33direction, but he knows exactly where to find them hours later.
- 24:37Like, like the next day later. You know what I mean?
- 24:41Yeah. Like, you don't know.
- 24:42There's no way you can know the Outback like the back of your
- 24:44hand like that. You know, it's just a that's
- 24:48just too, too open of a space for anybody to be able to like
- 24:52track down like. That it's very much a game of
- 24:54chance. Yeah, and he's so like he just
- 24:57gets them every. Time yeah, he just keeps
- 24:59falling. I wish I'd seen some of his
- 25:00failures. So I mean like even if you go
- 25:02into the the TV series which we watched the first season of it.
- 25:05That's good. I liked.
- 25:06It but it was like very similar. It was like every single person
- 25:09he came across ends up dead. Yeah, so.
- 25:12He always wins. But then again, he does say, you
- 25:15know, like, you never know where I'm gonna pop up.
- 25:18Yeah. All right.
- 25:21So we were. Do we write it?
- 25:23Yeah. OK.
- 25:25Do you want me to go first? No, it's OK.
- 25:27I'll go first. I love this movie.
- 25:29Man, this movie is so effective. I'm gonna give it a nine.
- 25:33I'm gonna give it a 7. All right, so we have a string
- 25:36average of 8. Cool, cool.
- 25:39All right, let's get into it. So we found out based on actual
- 25:44events, every year 30,000 people are reported missing in the
- 25:47Outback. 90% are found within months months.
- 25:53I said a month. A month?
- 25:54OK, I wrote. Months.
- 25:56All right. A month.
- 25:57Still, that's a lot. Yeah, others never found.
- 25:59Ever. We cut to Broome W Australia
- 26:031999. We see Ben.
- 26:06He and I love the captions in this movie on our DVD because we
- 26:10do not get these characters goddamn names until 20 to 30
- 26:13minutes in. Yeah, I.
- 26:15And the captions just keep saying man, woman one woman 2
- 26:19and then eventually it's like Ben woman one woman 2, then Ben
- 26:22Christie woman like. They they always refer to Ben as
- 26:26Mel, like me out the gate. I called, I called the spade the
- 26:32spade. He's a bloke.
- 26:33He said yeah, he has a bloke. I was like, a bloke buys a
- 26:36beater, he's like right out the gate Which?
- 26:38And the guy's being a creep and Ben is not having it.
- 26:42What's he being a creep about though?
- 26:44He's just like, don't do anything that I wouldn't.
- 26:46Do because he said oh sheilas are always so much easier when
- 26:49you're Rd. tripping. Oh, I didn't get you.
- 26:52Yeah. Oh, OK.
- 26:53Yeah. That's like, and that's kind of
- 26:55Ben's whole thing, which is why, like I think the ending is
- 26:58really interesting because like all of these men are being
- 27:01absolute creeps and like he doesn't condone it, but also
- 27:04like he doesn't end up doing anything.
- 27:06And the two women he's travelling with and murdered by
- 27:10this creep. And he he.
- 27:11Doesn't do anything. Yeah, he's napping the whole
- 27:14time. He's really good.
- 27:16I just end like fuck you and then peace and.
- 27:19And then we see Christy and Liz are working on postcards to
- 27:23their family. They they don't end up dropping
- 27:25them off, which I feel like is weird.
- 27:27Yeah, it seems like they would have dropped them off before
- 27:29they went on their trip cuz they've got a three-week trip
- 27:32planned, just the three of them. Christy's trying to encourage
- 27:36Liz to go for it. She was like, I think Ben likes
- 27:38you. And she goes, we need to figure
- 27:39this out. We need to figure out if the
- 27:40girlfriend in Sydney's real, cuz like, I can't spend 3 weeks of
- 27:45like, reading into his every move.
- 27:47Yeah. And then we see Ben takes the
- 27:49cartoon mechanic. Because if you buy a car for
- 27:521500 cash, you want to make sure it's working well.
- 27:55I have heard that this is like a legit strategy, like if you are
- 27:58like travelling to another country and you just want like a
- 28:02rental vehicle, like it's better to just buy a beater than to
- 28:05rent a vehicle for weeks because you save money overall.
- 28:09Yeah. And I'll let you do your
- 28:12impression of this mechanic and Ben to get working together.
- 28:18OK, so let's get some back story because Jesse and I attended a
- 28:22wrestling event over the summer and there was this one wrestler
- 28:26who has probably my all time favorite gimmick of Annie
- 28:29wrestler where all he does is go Yep, Yep, it's so fucking
- 28:36infectious. So like as soon as you hear it,
- 28:39you just got to go. Yep, you got it.
- 28:41When you hear a Yip, you got to give a Yip and and.
- 28:44Ben learns this and you see him very quickly learn to embrace
- 28:48the he. He goes through the same
- 28:50emotions I went through that day.
- 28:51So like he's got the mechanic there and the mechanic is like
- 28:55doing something. So like every time like Ben,
- 28:57like I think he like gives a gas or something.
- 29:00Like the guy's checking something and his word to go
- 29:04against Yep. So basically they're just like
- 29:06going Yep, Yep, back to each other.
- 29:08It's just like Ben starts to smile and he starts to enjoy it.
- 29:12And I don't know. I fucking loved it.
- 29:14That was. So far.
- 29:16Set the wrestling show? Yep.
- 29:18Yep, man. So Liz and Christy have gotten
- 29:24food, he's got the car and they're going to leave the next
- 29:29day, so they need to get a good night's sleep in bed by 9:30.
- 29:32But instead, all of their friends that they've been with
- 29:35for the past two weeks in Broome throw them a going away party
- 29:38and they're drunk and in the pool.
- 29:40Liz falls asleep on the beach. Dude, I'm going to say I think
- 29:44Ben, when he jumped into the water like the pool with the
- 29:48boogie board, he almost fucking like slapped the side of his
- 29:52head on the cement. Did you see that?
- 29:55I didn't see it, but boogie boards and pool is not a good
- 29:59combination when you're sober and Ben was incredibly far from
- 30:02sober. It's also, it was a tiny pool.
- 30:04It was really narrow. Like he gets in there and he
- 30:07just like goes sideways and he's like an inch away from busting
- 30:10his head open on the side of that.
- 30:11Like, I could not believe, man. Anyways, yeah, they, they, they
- 30:16party hard. Yeah.
- 30:17Like it's just like a whole montage for them partying and
- 30:20then wake up next morning hungover.
- 30:23Ben is in bed with. Christy But they're like
- 30:27opposite ends, like heads to feet, pants off.
- 30:31So we don't know what happened. I think that they just like they
- 30:36got, they got drunk and they're like, I don't want to sleep in
- 30:39my jeans. I'm going to take my pants off.
- 30:41We're cool about this, right? Yeah.
- 30:43I mean, if you're going to be on a three-week road trip with
- 30:46somebody, like at some point, you got to be comfortable with
- 30:49them taking their pants off. Yeah, well, I mean you don't
- 30:51have to always do it in the same.
- 30:52Room. No, you do.
- 30:54That's the rules of Rd. trips. Travis, I'm sorry to tell you
- 30:56you don't know because you've only ever Rd. tripped with me
- 30:59and we're allowed to take our pants off with each other.
- 31:02That's fair. That's fair.
- 31:04So yeah, she like has this whole awkward thing in the morning
- 31:06where she's just kind of getting ready and seems to be somewhat
- 31:10smiling about it. Yeah, but.
- 31:12Also, Liz has woken up on the beach next to other dudes and
- 31:18she takes off her top and goes into the water and just like,
- 31:21you know, kind of gives herself a little bath.
- 31:24I don't think she wants to leave Broom.
- 31:26I don't think she does either. But also here kind of like, I
- 31:28guess like she did her own little scandalous thing where
- 31:31you had a little bit of nudity around other people, you know,
- 31:34so, you know, whatever tit for tat people don't really take
- 31:38getting naked around each other. That's seriously over there.
- 31:43Not that big of a. Don't you'll laugh at that joke
- 31:44when you're editing. Tit for tat?
- 31:46Nope. What'd?
- 31:46You say I said tit for tit. Tit for tit, yeah.
- 31:51So they go to like they start their road trip.
- 31:54Like we have a whole montage of them, you know, do unbelievable
- 31:57road trip type things. It's a good time arguing about
- 32:00who's going to drive. Different people are sleeping in
- 32:02the back seats. It's fun.
- 32:05And we see that, like at night, they're either staying at cheap
- 32:08hotels or they're camping. Yeah.
- 32:10So they are camping at this caravan park and.
- 32:15Star gazing. I dude, star gazing out in like
- 32:18the in nowhere. That's one of my favorite parts
- 32:21about going back like to Harlem is you don't have white
- 32:25pollutions. You can just see all of the
- 32:27stars down there. It's fucking amazing.
- 32:29Yeah, I love just being able to see how many stars there really
- 32:35are. It's.
- 32:37Yeah, if you don't know, if you live in a populated area that
- 32:39has a lot of lights, you don't really get a true idea of how
- 32:43many, just like the stars, because the white pollution you
- 32:45can't see. The movie, it almost looks fake.
- 32:48There's so many stars. Yeah, but it's real.
- 32:50It's really cool and this gets been talking about UFOs.
- 32:56Reluctantly they have to pull it out because they started making
- 32:58fun of him. But no no no, go on.
- 32:59What are you talking about? But Ben legitimately believes in
- 33:02UFOs. Yeah.
- 33:03Like, I could just see in another world he's having this
- 33:08conversation with people. Like, OK, Ben's being Ben again.
- 33:10Yeah. It feels real.
- 33:13And like, he's telling various stories, like, you know, the
- 33:14same like urban legend that you get from anybody who believes in
- 33:20UFOs. Just like out in the middle of
- 33:22nowhere, somebody gets picked up and abducted.
- 33:24Yep, Bada Bing bada boom. And so the next day, they're
- 33:27driving to Emu Creek. They stop at like a gas station
- 33:35slash diner. Ben's using his camcorder and
- 33:38he's like, you know, take in video footage.
- 33:41He's trying to do like a. Shatner Yeah.
- 33:43It's like no signs of intelligent life.
- 33:46And then he gets Graham to introduce himself on camera.
- 33:50Graham comes across here for a second as a creep, but Graham's
- 33:53a real 1. I think, yeah, I think he's just
- 33:55like. Awkward.
- 33:57Yeah, he's like he works with those assholes like cuz he knows
- 34:00all of them by name. Like he's like Baz.
- 34:01Leave him alone like he. He was so fucking real in the
- 34:04moment there. He's like, ah, Baz, don't be a
- 34:06dickhead. Yeah, He's like, thank you.
- 34:09And. I like seeing that little guy go
- 34:10against that big guy. I was like, you know what,
- 34:12Graham? He's the Barton.
- 34:13He's the Yeah, he runs the place moving.
- 34:15You to a better list? Yeah, but yeah, the men insider
- 34:19being way too fucking bold with the things they're saying.
- 34:22Yeah, he calls because Liz and Chrissy go in there to get some
- 34:26shit and Ben follows. And then they call Ben over and
- 34:29they're like, hey, Ben, they know Ben, they don't.
- 34:33They're like, we just wanted to ask if you thought it was OK if,
- 34:37you know, we kind of take a go at your ladies over there.
- 34:39And he just kind of stares at them and doesn't say anything.
- 34:43And then. I appreciate that Liz and Chris
- 34:45are like, no, like it's they're being creeps.
- 34:48You don't need to get in a fight with them.
- 34:49I like this because that is a reality.
- 34:55Like, you know, I said it's a common theme of been like not
- 34:58doing anything. And I'm not saying I'm not
- 35:00saying that as a judgement call. I'm just saying like, that's
- 35:04like kind of the running theme throughout the movie.
- 35:06And that's a thing that, like, I know everybody at some point
- 35:11generally tends to experience harassment of some sort, but it
- 35:14disproportionately effects women.
- 35:16And for the most part, as a woman, you're facing this stuff
- 35:19in public, and the most thing you want to do is just get out
- 35:22of there alive and unhurt. And fighting back is not the way
- 35:25to do that most of the time. Yeah, I mean, that's true for
- 35:28like other people too. Like, I mean the same thing like
- 35:30if like got into a fight and he's got numbers against him and
- 35:37these guys are unhinged, you know, like they could take it
- 35:39far and like he could end up like life altering.
- 35:42Yeah, and like I think he's got the.
- 35:44Swallow your pride and just, you know, like walk away.
- 35:48Exactly that's what I think it is like he had that prideful
- 35:50moment where he was like, I should have said something to
- 35:52them and was in Chris here, but like no, you fucking shouldn't.
- 35:54Like do you know how many times we've experienced this type of
- 35:57shit? You did the right thing, he.
- 35:58He does say something to him and he's like, fuck off then.
- 36:01And then the guy's like, what'd you say?
- 36:02He's like I said, you got a awfully pretty smile, which I
- 36:06thought that that was a pretty good one.
- 36:08That kind of shuts him up and everybody laughs at him.
- 36:10Yeah, but then yeah, it's like a show Tai Chi.
- 36:15So they are worried about like, the fact that it seems like it's
- 36:19going to rain and Ben's like, yeah, it's a rainy season, I
- 36:21guess. Apparently, no.
- 36:22Apparently that was a Yeah, they they had to work this thing in
- 36:25there. They see a sign for Wolf Creek
- 36:28crater. There's a walking trail that
- 36:30takes about 3 hours. I saw no trail but.
- 36:34Yeah, I didn't see a trail. Either.
- 36:36But yeah, no camping, no fire and all that.
- 36:39So yeah, they they make the trip, they go up there, they
- 36:42have a little picnic, then we have a moment where Liz steps
- 36:47away for herself. I don't know what she's doing,
- 36:49but. Looking at the crater.
- 36:51Ben follows and they have a moment together and they kiss.
- 36:53Yeah, I do think they're a little bit cute after.
- 36:56It's the way they're both like, excited, but shy and lame.
- 36:59Oh, I just did that. Yeah.
- 37:01So now they're heading back down to the vehicle.
- 37:05And the Christy and Ben both realize that their watches have
- 37:09stopped. And then they get in the car and
- 37:10he's like, make sure you warm it up before we start going.
- 37:12And it's this is dead dead. This is not even like about
- 37:16like, oh, did you leave the lights on?
- 37:18Cuz your car will usually still make a.
- 37:21Yeah, you're not even gonna. Kind of a sound, yeah.
- 37:24It's just like a nothing, no sound.
- 37:26Yeah, something that's completely disconnected that's
- 37:28annoying cuz like he he yupped, he yupped so much for this car
- 37:33and he's like I like it was working perfectly and he's like,
- 37:36it's probably the battery terminals.
- 37:40Yeah, he. Doesn't fucking know this.
- 37:41Is another relatable moment. He's like, pop the hood and then
- 37:44him and Chrissy go out there and Chrissy's like, so you don't
- 37:48know what you're doing, do you? He's like, don't tell me this.
- 37:52And then Chrissy gets back in the car and she's like, you
- 37:55heard all that, didn't you? Yeah, yeah.
- 37:58So like they're like, fuck it. Like we got to camp here.
- 38:01We don't really have any other options.
- 38:02Yeah, it's getting dark out. It's going to be cold.
- 38:04We're just going to have to sleep in the car and they're
- 38:09talking a little bit. Ben is theorizing about UFOs
- 38:12again, which honestly, I if I didn't know how this movie went,
- 38:17like, I feel like, yeah, their watches are soft.
- 38:19Their car is dead. This.
- 38:21If you went into this movie 100% blind, you would think you're
- 38:23about to watch a UFO movie. You know what would fit
- 38:25perfectly in that crater? Our stereotypical idea of a
- 38:29saucer shaped UFO. Yeah, you're right.
- 38:32Yeah, perfectly. It's a possibility.
- 38:35So instead we see, oh, I pull up from behind and they go out and
- 38:40they see it is Nick Taylor. He offers to take a look, and he
- 38:46says, yeah, your coil's rooted. I don't know.
- 38:48I don't know what these things mean.
- 38:50If some man pulled up and said that, I'd be like, sure, yeah, I
- 38:54like, he's like, I can tell you I've got the parts to fix it,
- 38:57but we had to go back the way I'm from.
- 39:00And Liz and Christy are both like, you can ask him to toast
- 39:04to town. And I get that.
- 39:06I honestly agree with that sentiment.
- 39:08Like, let's see what we can do. And he goes, well, I'm going
- 39:12South. Town's north.
- 39:13Yeah. I can't.
- 39:14I can't take you that way. I kind of like how you guys are
- 39:17like, yeah, you see the problem here?
- 39:19I'm going. You want to go north?
- 39:21I'm going South. Yeah.
- 39:23So those opposite directions, yeah.
- 39:25And Ben's like, OK, here's the thing though.
- 39:30How much do you need for a new coil?
- 39:32He's like, I'm not gonna charge ya.
- 39:35Sorry. I'm I'm gonna try not to do that
- 39:37accent too much, but it sometimes it just slips.
- 39:39Out it's that's just how you feel it.
- 39:41Yeah, yeah. And yeah, like thoroughly.
- 39:43They don't have to pay. So like, I guess we can go with
- 39:45them. And I will say, like there are
- 39:47some parts in this movie where I'm like, we're getting just a
- 39:50lot of extra shots. I like them of these, how long
- 39:53these shots are lingering as they're towing because you feel
- 39:58how long this toe is. Yeah, yeah, 'cause like he was
- 40:01like, it's not going to be a long drive, but they're going
- 40:03for hours. Yeah, like at one point, like
- 40:05Ben's, like it can't be that much longer now.
- 40:08And either Christy or Luz is like, that's what you said an
- 40:10hour ago. It's Christy, which is why I
- 40:12never believed that they had any romantic thing because they're
- 40:14going back and forth the entire time.
- 40:16He even calls her a bitch like back at like the car thing
- 40:18because she's giving him shit about knowing not knowing what
- 40:21to do with the car. You know, yeah.
- 40:22I mean, like, what, what can you do in this situation?
- 40:24You either camp or you like, let this guy tell you, like you're
- 40:27kind of at the mercy of, unfortunately, this situation
- 40:30here. And then they're there, they're
- 40:33in like this abandoned town. He's like, there's lots of
- 40:36abandoned places like this in the Outback, like, and you can
- 40:38find all kinds of interesting stuff.
- 40:40You know, there's like a whole workshop here.
- 40:41That's how I'm gonna be able to fix your car.
- 40:43And they're sitting around the fire and they're drinking.
- 40:46And Ben is bad with the social cues, like cuz Nick is talking
- 40:52about how it used to be a shooter.
- 40:54You know, it's like he'd shoot predatory animals and they would
- 40:56get, you know, near whatever it was that he was working with.
- 41:01Was it the mines? Maybe?
- 41:02Yeah, I think so. You know, and he's like, yeah,
- 41:04but then they switched to different methods, so don't need
- 41:08me anymore. And Ben's like, but you have all
- 41:10this freedom. It's so great.
- 41:13It would be like one of those kids in Texas Chainsaw here in
- 41:17the Hitchhiker. Talk about not having a job at
- 41:21the the. The Slaughterhouse.
- 41:23Slaughterhouse anymore being like but yeah, look what you get
- 41:25to do. You get to just like walk around
- 41:28hot ass Texas like. Bins are blowing.
- 41:30Such great freedom. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:32And he's also like, yeah, I mean, you get to go around and
- 41:35be like the stereotypical guy and be like, that's not a knife.
- 41:38Yes, it's a knife. Yeah.
- 41:40And I, I love the look that makes shoots him and just, he
- 41:44just kind of like does that thing where he sits back and
- 41:46just kind of like gives him that judgmental look and he just like
- 41:48keeps it on him for a long time to where everybody gets
- 41:51uncomfortable. Yeah.
- 41:52And then he says, well, I, I do everybody a favor anyway,
- 41:55shooting those Kangaroos, they're a pest, just like
- 41:58Taurus. Everybody laughs a little bit
- 42:01too hard. Yeah, So Mick goes to work on
- 42:03their car and Liz, like, tells bankers he's like, y'all need to
- 42:07be nicer. He's doing a favor for us.
- 42:11You just made him mad. Also, we don't know this guy.
- 42:14Yeah. And she goes and tries to talk
- 42:16to him. She's like, it'd be good to be
- 42:17able to leave soon. He goes.
- 42:18Yeah. You all right as you do when
- 42:21you're working on. Vehicles, yes, that's the only
- 42:23way you can't work on a vehicle. Yeah, they are laying down near
- 42:29the fire and it seems like they're all super sleepy, which
- 42:33has been a long day. It's kind of believable.
- 42:36But like the way Liz is, because she's always been the very
- 42:38uptight 1, making sure everything is packed right.
- 42:40Like she's she's making sure they're not going to die in the
- 42:42Outback. That's her role.
- 42:44And that their cooler is really close to the fire.
- 42:47It's like between Ben and the fire.
- 42:49And she's like, hey, Ben, move the esky away from the fire.
- 42:52And then she just seems to kind of drift off, which is weird for
- 42:55her from what we've seen. So I think there's like those
- 42:57nice little moments that you feel something's off.
- 42:59Yeah, something's yeah wrong there.
- 43:01And we know for sure the next morning when she wakes up in the
- 43:04shed and she's tied. Yeah, Yep.
- 43:07And she like, we go through this really fast, but she's like
- 43:11there a whole day and she finds a glass Shard and she just like
- 43:14cuts herself loose and freeze herself.
- 43:17Yes. And she manages to get out and
- 43:22she looks around. She goes to their car, the
- 43:25entire engine's pulled apart. And she's like, well, I can't
- 43:28put that back together. I like that he still did the
- 43:31work of pulling it apart. It was both good like as a cover
- 43:34for him, but also made sure that if you know she was able to cut
- 43:37out of her zip ties that they don't have a way on.
- 43:40Well, he's got several working cars here.
- 43:41I, I the way I took it is he like, this is how he makes his
- 43:45money. He like sells the parts.
- 43:47Yeah, yeah, I could see that. So she's kind of rummaging
- 43:51around and she's about to leave, but then she suddenly hears a
- 43:53scream. And it's Christy, Yeah.
- 43:56So she goes and investigates, and she starts peeking in
- 43:58through the window. Yeah, it's like a garage type
- 44:01setup and Christy is tied to a post in there and Mick is like
- 44:05shooting at her. She's bloody and she doesn't
- 44:08have pants on and I don't want to think about what's been
- 44:09happening happening for the whole day.
- 44:11Yeah, yeah. Because it's not good.
- 44:13He's torturing her. And so she decides that she's
- 44:17going to make a distraction. So she.
- 44:19Yeah, yeah. So she goes and she gets the
- 44:23gasoline and she put pours it all over the car and she lights
- 44:29it on fire and causes a big explosion.
- 44:31And Mick comes out and he's just like, of course Mick, like he's
- 44:35like beating. On fire.
- 44:36Yeah, he was like, I was dumb. She goes to get Chrissy out, but
- 44:42Mick comes back before she can get her, like, completely
- 44:44united. And he starts being really
- 44:47vulgar and scary and saying like, oh, I love you wiggling
- 44:52towards which this is where we think Liz gonna be our bad ass
- 44:55final girl. She's got the gun.
- 44:57She's like, let her go. And she he's like, you're not
- 45:01gonna do anything Like that gun doesn't work.
- 45:03It's not even loaded. And so Chrissy shoots his ear.
- 45:07Was that what it was? I thought he like nicked his
- 45:09neck. It hit something I it.
- 45:12Was kind of a dark shot, yeah. And.
- 45:13If he was hit in the ear, we wouldn't know.
- 45:15Ears notoriously recover almost instantly from being shot.
- 45:20Yeah, so there's no way to know. He might have been shot in the
- 45:23ear. They heal quickly.
- 45:25That's true. That's true.
- 45:27Either way, it's a good shot and it's enough for him to collapse.
- 45:30Yep, and she, she can't get it to shoot again.
- 45:34And like Christy and I both go hit him.
- 45:37Yeah. And so she but she does a few
- 45:39weak sauce hits. It's weak and but she also.
- 45:41Like she hasn't eaten anything today or.
- 45:44Any water, adrenaline, adrenaline will get you through
- 45:46this one. And also, yes, in the head, like
- 45:50you with the butt of a gun, you can cave ahead and yes, like I'm
- 45:53sorry, but this is where we're at right now.
- 45:56I'm caving in a head. Yes, you know.
- 45:58He drugged us and definitely tortured Christy and was going
- 46:03to torture Liz next, probably. So yeah, they get out, they get
- 46:07into his truck, but there's no keys.
- 46:12So she's got to go back. She's got to get the keys.
- 46:14She gets them from him. But he wakes up as she's getting
- 46:17out into the car and he's got the gun and he's shooting at
- 46:20them and Liz Rams into the garage.
- 46:25Slash, Mick and I love the smoke.
- 46:28She's like, hold on. And they slam in there and then
- 46:31they drive off. And as they drive off, because
- 46:33there's no other lights around, the headlights from the other
- 46:37vehicle he has make it very clear that he's following.
- 46:40So Liz, again, her bad ass final girl misdirect a moment 'cause
- 46:46she's like, all right, we're gonna stop at this Cliff and
- 46:48we're gonna just push the truck over.
- 46:49So that way he sees it going over the edge and he thinks
- 46:51we're gonna be in it. And he pulls up and they have to
- 46:55like, also hide over the edge because there's nowhere else for
- 46:57them to hide in this area. And so he's looking around and
- 47:01then he decides he's going to go check the truck to make sure
- 47:03they're not in there. And Liz and Christy get out and
- 47:06they're trying to walk. He's just like, we have to get
- 47:08another vehicle. We can't walk all this way.
- 47:09He'll find us way too easily. We've got to go try and take one
- 47:13of these vehicles. Christy's not doing so good.
- 47:16And remember, she is bloody and has been tortured all day and
- 47:20like psychologically and physically she is not in a good
- 47:23place to go. Like steal a car from her would
- 47:26be murderer. So Liz is like, I'm going to do
- 47:29it myself, OK? I'll be faster without you.
- 47:31Give me 5 minutes, bitch. It's going to take you more than
- 47:345 minutes to walk there. Yeah.
- 47:36Well, she, she knows that she's gone.
- 47:39Yeah, she's she's basically like she's going to run off at this
- 47:42point. So yeah, she makes it back
- 47:44there. She finds this little area like
- 47:47that. He has a has a bunch of
- 47:49clippings of his victims that he's had.
- 47:52Wait, yeah, there's news of missing people.
- 47:54We see like passport photos, IDs, we see pictures of his
- 47:58weaponry. We see actual weapons on this
- 48:01table. Yeah, and one of them is a
- 48:03magnum, which she takes and she finds the bullets for and loads.
- 48:07And she looks for Ben a little bit.
- 48:08She's just, you know, she's like, Chrissy was still alive,
- 48:10maybe been still alive. And she climbs down into this
- 48:13mine shaft and this is where Mick has been storing his body.
- 48:17Yeah, and she was as her magnum in there too, her revolver.
- 48:20I don't know. It's a gun.
- 48:23Yeah, I just wrote Gun. I wasn't getting that.
- 48:27I'm thinking detail. It's a magnum.
- 48:28It's a Magnum either way. I've never heard you talk about
- 48:31guns before, and the fact that you're so confident this is a
- 48:34magnum is. Video games.
- 48:36OK, never mind. Yeah, that actually.
- 48:39Explains it. Magnum's one of my favorite
- 48:41handgun. Always.
- 48:42I always choose the Magnum. All right.
- 48:45So yeah, she freaks out when she sees all the bodies and runs
- 48:48back up. Yeah.
- 48:49And then? She makes into this garage
- 48:52basically where he's stored a bunch of other vehicles.
- 48:54Yeah. And like one of the things that
- 48:57we we didn't even see was belongings from other people
- 49:03he's murdered. One of them is like a camcorder.
- 49:05And we see a family and like they're having fun and we see
- 49:09similar situations like their car isn't working.
- 49:11They get a tow from him and it's taking a million years.
- 49:14And we see like him saying the same thing about like the
- 49:16rainwater like. Dude, the dark thing about that
- 49:18is they had a child there too. I know.
- 49:21Yeah, Like that. That was dark.
- 49:23A lot of the unsaid things in this movie are what's scary,
- 49:26yeah. And then she also finds Ben's
- 49:29camcorder and she plays the footage that he recorded and you
- 49:32see at the gas station when he was recording that Mick's truck
- 49:36was there at the gas station, too.
- 49:37Yep. So he was watching them the
- 49:39entire time. She's trying out different cars.
- 49:43She gets one to start and she is about to leave.
- 49:47Mick's in the back seat and he's got probably the same knife that
- 49:52Susan used to cut a Valentine's Day cake in X-ray.
- 49:56See. Nick, what are you doing?
- 49:57This is a cake cutting knife. You shouldn't be using this as
- 49:59sad people. It goes all the way through the
- 50:03seat and then all the way through Liz and she falls out of
- 50:07the car and she's trying to get away.
- 50:09And basically he's like, listen, you're not going to get away.
- 50:15I didn't get some information from you about Christy.
- 50:19And she's got like a little pocket knife she's trying to
- 50:21hold up to defend herself. And then he says that's not a
- 50:23knife. This is a.
- 50:25Knife and he swats at her, cuts off three of her fingers and
- 50:31truthfully most of the 4th it just is attached by a little
- 50:34skin which is excellent. Like attention to detail on the
- 50:38effects people like that they have that other like it hit it
- 50:42but didn't go all the way through.
- 50:44It's it's really good. And then he says he's gonna make
- 50:48a head on the stick. Yeah, you're like, what the fuck
- 50:51is that? Like her head on a Pike?
- 50:53No, he's going to take the knife and sever her spinal cord and
- 50:58now she's a head on the stick. That little as she realizes
- 51:02what's happening and this would be bad for anybody.
- 51:04But we've also seen Liz is a very outdoorsy person.
- 51:07Yeah, like it just feels like an act, like it's, it's terrible to
- 51:11do this to anybody. Don't get.
- 51:13It's so fucked. But like, that's a huge part of
- 51:15her identity and her hobbies and whatnot is that she's a very
- 51:18athletic, outdoorsy person. It's sad.
- 51:21He takes it pretty far there. So she's paralyzed and yeah, we
- 51:25don't know what happens with her.
- 51:27Yeah, and it's we've only seen the sequel once.
- 51:30I don't remember if we ever get any kind of like AI don't think
- 51:33resolution. There they might touch on it.
- 51:36So he's like, all right, now about Christie.
- 51:39So we now cut to Christie, who has continued to wander through
- 51:42the Outback and she's managed to find a Rd.
- 51:45Yeah, she, she's like, is alternating between running and
- 51:47walking and she gets to a road and this old man, he's just
- 51:51planning to go fishing, maybe. He looks like a fisherman movie.
- 51:55I don't know where he's fishing at, but that's that's the vibe
- 51:57he's giving. Flat fishing.
- 52:00I don't even know what fly fishing is to be honest.
- 52:03Really real, I thought that you use the flies as bait in fly
- 52:06fishing. I don't know what fly fishing
- 52:08is. Can I can we do a quick Google?
- 52:10Can we all learn together? See, I always think of that
- 52:12episode of King of the Hill where Hank Fly fishes with God.
- 52:17Why can I think of his name? Fawns.
- 52:21Henry Winkler. OK, yeah, Reddit.
- 52:24Explain what? Explain like I'm 5.
- 52:28Cool. Oh my God.
- 52:32Oh my God. OK, yeah, it's the lures.
- 52:34They're called flies. Is the short version of this.
- 52:37This person broke it down a lot more and there's a lot of
- 52:40fishing that's. Not how you talk.
- 52:41To a vocabulary in here that I'm not ready about.
- 52:44Yeah, it it's it's a type of fishing, but it's you use the
- 52:48fly as bait in the fly might not always be a family.
- 52:52So there you go. I'm not.
- 52:56That didn't resolve anything for me.
- 52:58It's OK. We don't need to resolve it
- 53:00here. Yeah, it's OK.
- 53:01Because you know what happens? This guy notices that his drink
- 53:04is shot. I was like, what the fuck is
- 53:06that? That.
- 53:06Was such a good shot because he sets his like coffee on the roof
- 53:09of his car. Relatable move.
- 53:11We've all done that at some point.
- 53:12Do that everyday. Yeah, he's trying to get a
- 53:14blanket for Christy. This little old man is We think
- 53:16he's going to save Christy's life.
- 53:18And then he comes back up from his trunk and he's like, oh,
- 53:21what the fuck, my fairness is bleeding.
- 53:24And then his head explodes. Yeah, like.
- 53:27And they did such a good shot, too, because we see the flash
- 53:29from the rifle and yeah, and Christy's like, OK.
- 53:35She so she's like, she sees that he's driving to over to her now,
- 53:41so she goes out and gets the keys from the guy, gets the car
- 53:44to start and starts driving herself.
- 53:47Mick has just been waiting. He's been daring her to go.
- 53:50And unfortunately her car is fucking slow.
- 53:53Yeah, and his car is fast. But she ends up running him off
- 53:56the road. Yeah.
- 53:57Like he's just run off the road. It's not like a big wreck or
- 54:00anything. Yeah.
- 54:00He doesn't flip. He just, yeah.
- 54:01Yeah, so he takes his gun shoes out when it retires does cause a
- 54:05wreck. Yeah, she flips.
- 54:07Yes. And she tries to get like, she
- 54:10crawls out of the car and then he shoots her and that's it.
- 54:15Like he takes her body, takes the fisherman's body, puts him
- 54:18in the trunk, prints the car. Yep.
- 54:21So now over to Ben. That's right, he's still around.
- 54:24He's just. Not wakes up still alive.
- 54:25Ben is very well rested. Ben has been crucified.
- 54:28Yeah, yeah, he's actually. Yeah, it's been 2, maybe 3 days.
- 54:35Oh, my God, Yeah, He's risen. Ben has risen.
- 54:40Wow. You know, maybe he becomes a
- 54:42prophet after this. Maybe.
- 54:44I think he does. He does get unfairly jailed.
- 54:47He does. Yeah.
- 54:49My God, it's been Jesus the second coming.
- 54:57Wow. We just cracked this code.
- 55:00That's the alien zoo tag. And they were like, you're
- 55:02crying. Shit y'all, we got Jesus.
- 55:06Sorry, that's like our one rule whenever we abduct humans, like
- 55:09we're not allowed to abduct Jesus.
- 55:11We don't want our overlord to know this happens.
- 55:14So we're just, we'll just put you right back where you, right.
- 55:15Swear to God, man, we didn't think he'd be back so soon.
- 55:18Swear to God. Yeah, I didn't think of that.
- 55:21God. Yeah, so.
- 55:24So he, he frees himself. He's in there with a bunch of
- 55:27dogs, but it's OK. They're all caged up.
- 55:29And he, he leaves. He was in a cave off to the side
- 55:32the entire time at this site. Yeah.
- 55:34And he just snoops the fuck out of there.
- 55:36Yeah. And he makes it and he collapses
- 55:39on the side of a road and a car pulls up and you think it's
- 55:42going to be a MIG, but it's. It's AVW Microbus.
- 55:45Yep, it's because it's two German toys.
- 55:46Two Germans? Yep.
- 55:47And they're very, very helpful. Yeah, I don't speak German, but
- 55:51the general just says Oh my God, what the fuck happened to this
- 55:54man? Let's get him to a hospital.
- 55:56Yeah, that's the tone. It's the least scary that I
- 55:58think German has ever sounded in a movie.
- 56:00Well, they're up next to Mick anywhere here, so it's pretty
- 56:03easy to do that. So we see he's getting medical
- 56:07attention and then we see a shot of him going to trial.
- 56:11Yeah, it it's like he ended up being cleared.
- 56:14So this is where we get those like end of movie, like text,
- 56:19yeah and basically saying Christy and Liz were never
- 56:21found. The investigation was like
- 56:23thrown off because it all. Sounded cops were incompetent.
- 56:27Yeah, they. They fucked it up.
- 56:28Exactly where they went cuz they were lost and they got a tow and
- 56:33eventually he gets cleared. He was in custody for four
- 56:35months beforehand but he got cleared of all charges.
- 56:37Yeah. And that's that.
- 56:40And then we just see Mick walking into the sunsets.
- 56:43Yep, and like I said, we've only seen the sequel one time, but it
- 56:49ratchets it up to like. I remember loving the sequel, I
- 56:52thought it was really good. We need to watch that again
- 56:54soon. Yeah, it just, it goes balls to
- 56:56the wall and then the same with the show like.
- 56:59Yeah, there's the third one too. I mean, they're doing good work
- 57:03with them. They're upset, upsetting and
- 57:06icky, but like they're effective as horror movies and that I
- 57:09think same thing I. Think 2 gets a little bit more
- 57:11zany, like, I mean, it's still harsh, but I think it's a little
- 57:14bit more like ratcheted up, like we're getting a little
- 57:17unrealistic with this shit now. Yeah, we go back to that mine
- 57:19shaft. That mine shaft is an important
- 57:21piece of YEAH of Part 2. It's some good olasploitation
- 57:25right here, really is what we got.
- 57:28Yeah. All right, so that's it.
- 57:30So you changing your rating. I'll bump it up to 7.5.
- 57:36OK, I'll keep mine at 9:00. What would you change?
- 57:39Hold on, I can't do this math. Yes, no, yes, 8.25 yeah, cuz
- 57:45you're yeah. I guess I'd probably like do a
- 57:51little bit more with the beginning cuz it it feels like,
- 57:55hey, we want you to enjoy these characters so we're just gonna
- 57:58show you them having fun and getting along.
- 58:01And I think that's good. But I also do feel like it kind
- 58:03of is a little bit too much of it.
- 58:07Too much of it. Yeah, OK, like it just like you
- 58:11said, cuz once things start happening, everything happens so
- 58:13fast it almost feels like two different movies.
- 58:16Yeah, it does. Yeah, a little bit.
- 58:18Yeah. OK, I get that.
- 58:20What would be your dream sequel? Well, I can't even remember
- 58:25everything that happened in the sequel, so let's figure this
- 58:27out. What, what, what we would like.
- 58:32It's really hard because I kind of want like what we got from
- 58:35the show where the character like that he's targeting is just
- 58:38keeps getting away and is able to get their own shots in.
- 58:41Like I want to see him get some of his.
- 58:44Yeah, yeah. Like have like an actual, like
- 58:48equal where like he's going against somebody, but this is
- 58:51somebody that like, OK, what if, what if somebody is going out
- 58:58there and they're doing like a survivalist thing?
- 59:02Oh. That could be fun.
- 59:03Like it's somebody that's like actually very prepared to handle
- 59:06themself. What if it's another serial
- 59:09killer? Oh.
- 59:10That'd be interesting. That could be really fun.
- 59:13Yeah, killer versus killer. Yes.
- 59:17What was that guy from the Graham?
- 59:21No, not Graham, the guy that Graham called a Dick head.
- 59:24Oh. Baz, I think, yeah.
- 59:27Nah, not him, Got Graham? No Graham's.
- 59:31Graham's too real. Yeah.
- 59:32Now it's just a random dude. There's just some other dude out
- 59:35there that's like a killer. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:37Yeah, just somebody that's capable, you know, like they're
- 59:39both out there trying to like look for opportunities and they
- 59:41find each other and they think they got the other one and they
- 59:44keep trying to string each other along.
- 59:46Then there you pull a stereo contos and Louise.
- 59:50Oh, you think they gang up? Yeah, I think that's how the
- 59:52movie. Ends I think that they're
- 59:54territorial even though it's a big place like this is where I
- 59:57get my kill ones. I'm not saying that like it's a
- 1:00:00happy team. I'm saying it's like Hobbs and
- 1:00:02Shaw, like where I won't kill you for now.
- 1:00:05OK. Speaking of what would don't try
- 1:00:10to do? Well, Dom would fix his car and
- 1:00:13get out of there. That's true.
- 1:00:14Dom would have never been in this situation in the 1st place
- 1:00:16because first of all, three weeks to drive somewhere, no.
- 1:00:20How many quarter miles is that? Several.
- 1:00:26Either way, he would know how to fix the car and he would have
- 1:00:30gotten out of there on his own. Yeah, and he would have
- 1:00:32immediately known somebody had tinkered with it.
- 1:00:34Yeah. There's no way.
- 1:00:36Yeah. Yep.
- 1:00:42OK, Talia. Yeah, she was dreaming hard at
- 1:00:47the start of this movie. Well, Talia is from the Outback.
- 1:00:50She is. She was found in an Outback.
- 1:00:52She doesn't realize that it's the steakhouse and not the
- 1:00:54Australian Outback, but it's OK. And she's also a Talia kangaroo
- 1:00:58and she did not really appreciate the whole thing of
- 1:01:00him murdering Kangaroos. Yeah, she's like, I could be
- 1:01:03mistaken for a kangaroo. I could also be a mistaken for a
- 1:01:05dingo. He also talked about Pitbull
- 1:01:08getting its head cut off. Which is sad.
- 1:01:09Yeah. She didn't like that.
- 1:01:10Yeah. It's just, I think all of this
- 1:01:12like it made Talia nostalgic for her homeland.
- 1:01:16Yeah, all of this stuff about death of like her, kind of
- 1:01:20people like this. Is yeah.
- 1:01:22She's upset, though. Like, you know, she was like,
- 1:01:25oh, finally a movie I can relate to.
- 1:01:27And this is really terrible and really scary.
- 1:01:28So I think Talia, because it's so terrible and scary, she would
- 1:01:32give it a nine. OK.
- 1:01:34Yeah, I think it's effective for her.
- 1:01:37I mean, are we going to say it? Who's Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:01:41Yeah, it's got to be Mick. Yeah, come on.
- 1:01:43Like Mick is The Ultimate Warrior in this movie.
- 1:01:46Come on. Mick has no qualms of hurting
- 1:01:48people to get what he wants and Zoe, despite me having stomach
- 1:01:52issues that she can't lay on my stomach for the past eight
- 1:01:56months, every single day tries to lay on my stomach and I say
- 1:02:01Zoe, you can't do that. And she goes no.
- 1:02:05Yep, and she wins. So.
- 1:02:08Is this a hoot or a holler for Cordelia?
- 1:02:11This is her first time seeing this.
- 1:02:12Movie and she stayed locked in the entire time.
- 1:02:15Yeah, I think she didn't think that people were capable of
- 1:02:19being like that. So this was earth shattering for
- 1:02:21her. She lost time for innocence that
- 1:02:23day. And if we're making her a Wharf,
- 1:02:29and maybe that was like, hey, this is a hoot.
- 1:02:31This is crazy. I didn't realize life could be
- 1:02:33this bad all. Right, so it's a hoot from
- 1:02:36Gordy. Yeah.
- 1:02:38Now I'm gonna ask, who did you relate to?
- 1:02:43Ben yeah, I'm just getting caught up in the whole year.
- 1:02:50I'm pretty, you know, retentive about organization.
- 1:02:53And I also would have that same. Oh my God, you cannot talk to
- 1:02:56your stranger like this. Yeah.
- 1:02:57Moment that Liz has. Yeah.
- 1:02:59I don't know if I would be as cool under pressure in escaping.
- 1:03:03Maybe, I don't know, you've never been in this type of
- 1:03:05scenario. I hope you never have to be.
- 1:03:06Yeah, I like, I truly, I fully recognize there have been
- 1:03:09situations where my adrenaline has kicked in and I did not
- 1:03:13react the way I expected myself to react.
- 1:03:15So I I can't say what would happen in this exact moment.
- 1:03:19Well, I think this is a good time for us to ask people what
- 1:03:23they think. OK, so let's go on over to our
- 1:03:26listener reviews. We've got a couple here.
- 1:03:28So right off the bat, we have Michael E Howard.
- 1:03:32Michael says after having seen Wolf Creek multiple times, I
- 1:03:35have to give kudos to John Jarrett and John McQueen for
- 1:03:38creating such a hateful character.
- 1:03:39There's no redeeming qualities to make.
- 1:03:41That is part of what makes this Wolf Creek good.
- 1:03:44Much like Wrong Turn with all the whooping and hollering.
- 1:03:46It's hooting and hollering. Michael.
- 1:03:49It is sick to think of what the previous victims went through.
- 1:03:52I'd give this movie 7 outs in. OK, yeah.
- 1:03:56I mean, that's like a we were kind of talking about that.
- 1:03:58Yeah. About the like the previous
- 1:04:00victims, like that camcorder footage of that family that
- 1:04:03experiences like it's and then you see the the body on the wall
- 1:04:07of his other person that he had torturing for months.
- 1:04:11It's just yeah, like it's super, super fucking unnerving
- 1:04:14character and he is terrifying. All right, And we have one from
- 1:04:19Ward Zombie here who says I have not seen this in years.
- 1:04:24Pretty good down to earth slasher, good kills and pretty
- 1:04:27crazy villain. The Outback also makes for a
- 1:04:29great setting. I give it a six out then.
- 1:04:31OK, yeah, I agree with that. Now, back to isolation is a big
- 1:04:34part of what makes this movie work.
- 1:04:36And I mean, the villain, it's honestly what makes this movie
- 1:04:39for me entirely. Like Mick Taylor is so fucking
- 1:04:43crazy, over the top. He's so vile.
- 1:04:46I don't know, like, it's just like, and it's kind of haunting,
- 1:04:50man. Like, yeah, I it really is.
- 1:04:52It's just just so fucking good. OK, so thank you guys for those
- 1:04:56reviews there. Now it's time for the IMDb
- 1:04:59review. So I knew that we both enjoyed
- 1:05:02this one so I've pulled us a little bad review here.
- 1:05:05And this is December 6th 2005 before it had its internationals
- 1:05:12or it's all release. So Three out 10 seriously lacks
- 1:05:15originality. Despite what some may think,
- 1:05:192005 has actually been a rather decent year for horror movies.
- 1:05:22We've had The Devil's Rejects, The Skeleton Key, Emily Rose,
- 1:05:25The Descent, and The Land of the Dead to name a few good
- 1:05:28releases, and I was hoping that Wolf Creek would be able to
- 1:05:31further cement the year as one of the best for horror so far
- 1:05:34this decade. Unfortunately, that did not turn
- 1:05:37out to be the case. The film adheres to the revival
- 1:05:40of 70s style horror that we've had recently, which is nice, but
- 1:05:44aside from that and a few nice core scenes, this really is a
- 1:05:47lacking movie. The plot is far too simple and
- 1:05:50takes a very long time to really get going.
- 1:05:52In fact, the first half hour reminded me a lot of that 1999
- 1:05:55movie where nothing happens at all, the Australian Outback.
- 1:05:59Which 1990 movie? There could be a lot of movies,
- 1:06:02Yeah. The Australian odd back, with
- 1:06:04its vast landscapes and beautiful sunsets, provides an
- 1:06:07ideal location for a story like this.
- 1:06:09Director Greg McQueen does a good job of capturing the
- 1:06:11surroundings, and this complements the thick Australian
- 1:06:14accents in general lunacy seen throughout.
- 1:06:17The fact that the film is based on a true story helps make it
- 1:06:20more shocking, but this is countered by the fact that
- 1:06:22everything in this movie has been seen before, recently even,
- 1:06:26and has been done a lot better than this.
- 1:06:28The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre had better and more
- 1:06:31repulsive scenes of gore, while Rob Zombies 2 flicks did the
- 1:06:34torture and lunacy in a way that is far more frightening and
- 1:06:37entertaining than it is here. The main gimmick that the film
- 1:06:40tries to build on is the one of people going missing in
- 1:06:44Australia and never being seen again.
- 1:06:46This is almost frightening as the land is so vast and easy to
- 1:06:50get lost in, but the way that it's handled isn't original or
- 1:06:53even that shocking. And this ensures that despite
- 1:06:55its best intentions of having something behind the immediate
- 1:06:59goings on, it's not frightening because it's been seen too many
- 1:07:02times before. This isn't an entirely bad film,
- 1:07:05it entertains after the opening half hour and the gore is nice,
- 1:07:08but it's hardly a good example of a modern horror film.
- 1:07:13I thought that was a really well thought out review right there.
- 1:07:15It is a really well thought out review.
- 1:07:16I, I, I'm like there are some, this is one of those movies that
- 1:07:20like, I appreciate more of the details when we're watching for
- 1:07:22the show and we're taking notes because like when it's just on,
- 1:07:27I find it so easy to get distracted.
- 1:07:28You can check out. Part Yeah.
- 1:07:30Yeah, you can check out pretty easily during that.
- 1:07:32It just, yeah, it's just one of those.
- 1:07:34I'm just like so, but I I. I don't like I.
- 1:07:40I don't think everything has to be better or worse than other
- 1:07:43movies. They can just be different and
- 1:07:44bring their own. Yeah, Rob Zombie did their own
- 1:07:48take on gleeful murder, but it's different.
- 1:07:52The difference between Rob Zombie's Sake versus this one,
- 1:07:57The Devil's Rejects and House of the 1000 Corpses is the
- 1:08:01cartoonish side of it. Yeah.
- 1:08:03This is the more like this is a person that could potentially be
- 1:08:07out there. And the way that it's played is
- 1:08:08a little bit more grounded. Yeah.
- 1:08:10And I think it's a different take on that type of unhinged
- 1:08:13character. Like different types of people,
- 1:08:16they love to torture and kill people, but very different in
- 1:08:19how it's executed. And I don't feel very similar at
- 1:08:24all. Like I don't, there's not a lot
- 1:08:26of things that I would compare these two with other than like
- 1:08:29they have people that like to kill.
- 1:08:31Yeah, basically, I think mostly what I would compare it to,
- 1:08:34honestly, in a lot of ways is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and
- 1:08:38even then is different. Yeah, because it's like, I mean,
- 1:08:42that's also kind of cartoonish. I just think it's like, I don't
- 1:08:47know cuz I hate when I get into a place in my head where I feel
- 1:08:50like I need to compare these movies.
- 1:08:51Like which one do I like better? Cuz I can like them in different
- 1:08:54ways. Yeah.
- 1:08:56And I don't know, I think watching movies becomes more fun
- 1:09:00if you let yourself just enjoy it.
- 1:09:03Yeah, I agree. Yeah, like I don't care if it's
- 1:09:07not the most original movie. Like, we're like decades, like
- 1:09:11over a century of doing Movies Now.
- 1:09:13You can only do so many things that haven't ever been done
- 1:09:17before. You know what?
- 1:09:17I mean at its core there's like 7 actual stories in the world,
- 1:09:21it's just how you go about telling them.
- 1:09:23Yeah, I thought that they did a good job with this one.
- 1:09:26But you know, if it's not, if it's too similar to other shit
- 1:09:29for you, then what I was like, that's how you that's how you
- 1:09:32feel and you are entitled to that.
- 1:09:35All right, so that's it for Wolf Creek.
- 1:09:38Next week we're doing our patron, our patron voted
- 1:09:41episode, and we're covering Silver Bullet.
- 1:09:44Yeah, we. Have just fallen in love with
- 1:09:46this movie since we since we were invited to watch it with
- 1:09:50one of our friends and we did a battle of the busey as our votes
- 1:09:54for this month and silver bullet one.

- 1:10:15Actually, I think I'm gonna change my stance on this.
- 1:10:17I was a person at one point that did not really think that I
- 1:10:20cared for werewolf movies. But I am learning that I think I
- 1:10:23might actually like werewolf movies.
- 1:10:25Honestly the same I it's just finding the good werewolf
- 1:10:30movies. Yeah, which we've done a pretty
- 1:10:32good job of doing so far. And this one's a good one.
- 1:10:35Yeah. So give it a shot.
- 1:10:36I guess that's that. We want to go ahead and think
