- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to another weekend edition
- 0:08Speaker 1: of Dad's Bedtime Stories, where I take some of my
- 0:11Speaker 1: past stories and kind of put them together into a
- 0:14Speaker 1: super story. Tonight, I bring you something very special to
- 0:18Speaker 1: my heart, a series of stories I wrote to make
- 0:22Speaker 1: fun of my dad a little bit. He was having
- 0:25Speaker 1: knee surgery, so I wrote a story called Grandpa Robonese. Then,
- 0:32Speaker 1: because someone suggested it, I wrote a sequel called Grandpa
- 0:36Speaker 1: Robonese and the Geriatric Justice Squad. I think a lot
- 0:40Speaker 1: of people have forgotten about them by now, but I
- 0:43Speaker 1: just want them to live on forever, because yeah, my
- 0:46Speaker 1: dad has robonees. That's why. Anyways, I hope you enjoy
- 0:51Speaker 1: these two full stories, and I hope they're so good
- 0:55Speaker 1: they put you to sleep. Everyone, I have a great one.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Now it's time to close your eyes, get as comfy
- 1:03Speaker 1: as you can in that bed, and imagine yourself doing
- 1:08Speaker 1: what the kid or kids in the story do. Now,
- 1:14Speaker 1: this story takes place somewhere very familiar to me, a
- 1:20Speaker 1: small town in the middle of Ontario, in the country
- 1:25Speaker 1: of Canada. You see two kids, Charlotte, who was seven
- 1:31Speaker 1: years old and Oliver, who was eight years old, had
- 1:36Speaker 1: a pretty awesome time growing up in a pretty awesome
- 1:40Speaker 1: small town. They really enjoyed visiting their grandparents' house whenever
- 1:45Speaker 1: they could, and that's exactly what they did the day
- 1:50Speaker 1: in question. They got dropped over to play with their grandparents,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and while their grandmother was moving around the house doing
- 2:00Speaker 1: grandmother like things, something was different about Grandpa. Yeah. Grandpa
- 2:08Speaker 1: was the kind of guy, like many grandpas, who could
- 2:12Speaker 1: fix just about anything. He could often be found plugging
- 2:17Speaker 1: away in his pretty well equipped workshop, and sometimes when
- 2:22Speaker 1: the kids came over, he liked to bring them out
- 2:25Speaker 1: there and work on little projects. But today Grandpa was
- 2:31Speaker 1: just laying down on the couch with a bag of
- 2:35Speaker 1: peas on one of his knees. What's wrong, Grandpa, Oliver asked.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh, well, I got my knee replaced. You see, it's
- 2:49Speaker 2: my second knee replacement, and I can't move around as
- 2:55Speaker 2: much as I could for a little while.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Grandpa's you mean you can't play with us, Oliver responded.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Ollie, no, I don't believe will be able
- 3:11Speaker 2: to play today. You and Charlotte will have to entertain yourselves.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And that's exactly what the two of them did. They
- 3:24Speaker 1: played with all of the toys that their grandparents still
- 3:27Speaker 1: had from when their parents were growing up, but the
- 3:32Speaker 1: visit just wasn't the same. That night, their father, Martin,
- 3:37Speaker 1: picked them up and brought them home. It was getting
- 3:40Speaker 1: pretty late, so he sent them directly to get ready
- 3:44Speaker 1: for bed. The two of them brushed their teeth, got
- 3:48Speaker 1: into their pajamas, and then they both went to their
- 3:53Speaker 1: bedrooms and started climbing into bed. Well, Martin was outside
- 4:00Speaker 1: in the hall he heard a voice coming from Charlotte's room.
- 4:05Speaker 1: He walked up to the door, peeked inside, and there
- 4:11Speaker 1: he heard Charlotte, with her hands clasped together, making a
- 4:17Speaker 1: wish to well, God or the universe or whatever, please
- 4:24Speaker 1: make Grandpa better soon. I want to play with him.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Thank you. Charlotte then pulled the covers up over top
- 4:35Speaker 1: of herself and went to sleep. Now Martin, having heard
- 4:42Speaker 1: this very sweet wish from one of his six favorite
- 4:46Speaker 1: people about one of his other six favorite people, well,
- 4:52Speaker 1: he couldn't resist getting a little bit emotional, and that's
- 4:58Speaker 1: when an idea came into his mind. Now, for those
- 5:02Speaker 1: of you who've been listening to my stories for a
- 5:05Speaker 1: while you would know that we Martin's are kind of
- 5:10Speaker 1: stewards of the story verse. We take the role of
- 5:15Speaker 1: making sure all sorts of things stay in their very
- 5:19Speaker 1: own universes and don't wander off into other ones. Well,
- 5:25Speaker 1: the Martin in this story was no different, and as
- 5:30Speaker 1: a result of being such a good steward of the
- 5:34Speaker 1: story verse, he had a couple friends who he thought
- 5:38Speaker 1: he might be able to call on. Here, Martin quickly
- 5:43Speaker 1: snuck outside where no one else could hear him. He
- 5:47Speaker 1: took out his phone and he made a phone call. Hey,
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's uh, it's me Martin, Yeah, from Earth three sixty five.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That's right. Well, the thing is, I could really use
- 6:03Speaker 1: a favor. Do you think you can meet me here
- 6:06Speaker 1: in a few minutes, he said to whoever. The person
- 6:10Speaker 1: on the other side of the phone was all right,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'll see you soon. Then Martin hung up the phone
- 6:19Speaker 1: and then just stood in the driveway looking up at
- 6:22Speaker 1: the dark night sky. Soon he saw a very bright
- 6:29Speaker 1: looking star. The star got brighter and brighter until it
- 6:36Speaker 1: eventually became obvious that it wasn't a star at all.
- 6:41Speaker 1: At first, it looked a little like an airplane, but
- 6:44Speaker 1: not an airplane. Exactly, But as it got closer it
- 6:50Speaker 1: became obvious that it was a spaceship, a spaceship that
- 6:56Speaker 1: some of you may have heard of before. The spaceship
- 7:03Speaker 1: Spaceship landed in the front yard and the back doors
- 7:08Speaker 1: opened up. Standing there, staring right back at Martin was
- 7:15Speaker 1: another very familiar character, a little black fire dragonling that
- 7:22Speaker 1: you may know as Magnus from the Cards of Power Universe.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Of course, well, I heard you needed some help, Magnus said,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I sure did, buddy, Martin replied, as he climbed aboard
- 7:38Speaker 1: the spaceship. Now, the spaceship was a pretty amazing place.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It looked much larger on the inside than the outside
- 7:48Speaker 1: for some reason, and it had anything anyone could ever need.
- 7:54Speaker 1: A living room, a kitchen, a play area, a library,
- 8:00Speaker 1: rary bedrooms, and some other mysterious rooms off to the side,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and of course a control center at the front. And
- 8:09Speaker 1: at the very center of that control center was a
- 8:13Speaker 1: picture of a little digital face. Welcome. The face said,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I'm spaceship. What can we do to assist you? Well,
- 8:27Speaker 1: that's just the thing. My father recently had a knee
- 8:32Speaker 1: replacement surgery, it's a second one, actually, and the kids
- 8:36Speaker 1: were kind of sad that he couldn't play with them
- 8:39Speaker 1: and help them fix stuff, you know, that sort of thing.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I was thinking we could use the two of you, well,
- 8:46Speaker 1: Spaceship your amazing technology, and Magnus some of the magic
- 8:52Speaker 1: cards I asked you to bring, and maybe we could
- 8:56Speaker 1: surprise my father by, you know, making him better than
- 9:01Speaker 1: he ever has been before. Spaceship and Magnus looked at
- 9:07Speaker 1: each other for a second, and then back at Martin,
- 9:11Speaker 1: wherein Magnus responded, yes, I agree, we are indeed in.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Spaceship confirmed, and with that the doors of the ship
- 9:26Speaker 1: closed and Spaceship flew up off into the air to
- 9:32Speaker 1: a little house not too far away, a house Martin
- 9:37Speaker 1: had been to pretty recently, his parents' house. Should I
- 9:43Speaker 1: send a group of robots to carefully extract your father
- 9:48Speaker 1: from the house, Spaceship asked, Uh, Yeah, that would be cool.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Martin responded. A door on the side of the spaceship
- 9:59Speaker 1: suddenly open, and a team of little robots floated right
- 10:03Speaker 1: out of it, carrying what looked to be a stretcher
- 10:08Speaker 1: of some kind. The back door to the ship opened up,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and the robots flew out and down towards the house. Luckily,
- 10:19Speaker 1: it was already past the time that Grandma was asleep,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and Grandpa, like usual, could be found sleeping on the couch,
- 10:30Speaker 1: not his final sleep of the night, of course, but
- 10:34Speaker 1: the second sleep he normally took after dinner and not
- 10:38Speaker 1: too long before he'd actually go to bed.
- 10:40Speaker 2: For the whole night.
- 10:42Speaker 1: The robots silently floated into the room, zapped Grandpa with
- 10:48Speaker 1: a special sleep ray, and then carefully lifted him on
- 10:53Speaker 1: to the stretcher. Just as silently, they floated up off
- 10:59Speaker 1: the ground, out the door, and back up towards the Spaceship.
- 11:05Speaker 1: As they re entered, another door on the side of
- 11:09Speaker 1: the ship opened up. Martin and Magnus followed the robots
- 11:14Speaker 1: with the little stretcher. Inside the room was some sort
- 11:18Speaker 1: of medical bay, very high tech looking, with a few
- 11:23Speaker 1: beds laying about and a whole bunch of very advanced
- 11:27Speaker 1: medical technology. The robots carefully transferred Grandpa on to another bed,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and then Spaceship's voice appeared on a screen near by.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I have developed a very advanced knee schematic. This should
- 11:47Speaker 1: allow him not only to be back on his feet immediately,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but also to do things that would have never been
- 11:57Speaker 1: possible without these very advanced knees. Huh sounds cool, Martin responded,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and with that the robots that carried Grandpa in got
- 12:11Speaker 1: immediately to work. They moved incredibly quickly and used tools
- 12:17Speaker 1: that well that most people on Earth would never even
- 12:22Speaker 1: hear about. Before long, they were completely finished. Instead of
- 12:28Speaker 1: two normal looking Grandpa knees, Grandpa now had two very
- 12:34Speaker 1: extraordinary looking robot knees. Now it's my turn, Magnus said.
- 12:44Speaker 1: He asked me to bring a card over, and I
- 12:48Speaker 1: thought this one would be kind of perfect. This is
- 12:52Speaker 1: a legendary fixed card. The holder of this card is
- 12:58Speaker 1: capable of fixing all most anything at well superhuman speed.
- 13:06Speaker 1: When you told me about your father, I kind of
- 13:10Speaker 1: thought this would be perfect. That is perfect, Martin responded.
- 13:17Speaker 1: The little fire dragonling flew over towards the bed where
- 13:22Speaker 1: Grandpa was sitting. From inside his chest somehow, he pulled
- 13:29Speaker 1: out a bright blue card that looked like it was
- 13:33Speaker 1: made of pure energy, and then he placed the card
- 13:39Speaker 1: directly on Grandpa's chest. Grandpa's chest began to glow, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: so did the card. Then almost instantly, the card was
- 13:53Speaker 1: sucked right into Grandpa's chest. With all the work done,
- 13:59Speaker 1: the robots picked Grandpa up again and returned him to
- 14:04Speaker 1: the couch where he was sleeping. Martin, Magnus, and Spaceship
- 14:10Speaker 1: went back to Martin's house. The next morning, Grandpa woke
- 14:16Speaker 1: up off of the couch where he somehow slept the
- 14:20Speaker 1: whole night. His back hurt just a little bit from
- 14:24Speaker 1: staying in one place for so long, but something felt
- 14:29Speaker 1: really different about his knees. It was as if, well
- 14:34Speaker 1: it was as if they were the knees of a teenager.
- 14:39Speaker 1: They felt amazing. He looked down and pulled up the
- 14:44Speaker 1: legs of his pants, only to reveal rob knees. How
- 14:52Speaker 1: did he get rob knees? In surprise, Grandpa stood up
- 14:58Speaker 1: off the couch, something he wasn't really supposed to do
- 15:03Speaker 1: right now, and it became apparent that well, that his
- 15:10Speaker 1: knees felt better than ever. He felt strong and powerful,
- 15:15Speaker 1: like he could run one hundred kilometers an hour, which
- 15:19Speaker 1: is about sixty miles if you're listening from the States.
- 15:24Speaker 1: In fact, Grandpa decided to test that theory out. He
- 15:29Speaker 1: ran to the front door, swung it open with gusto,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and ran outside. He started by jogging down the road,
- 15:40Speaker 1: and it felt almost effortless, so he picked up the
- 15:44Speaker 1: pace bit by bit by bit, and he found that
- 15:49Speaker 1: he could run faster and faster and faster, faster than
- 15:54Speaker 1: he could ever run before, faster even then well your average.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Before he knew it, he'd run no less than ten kilometers.
- 16:07Speaker 1: This is amazing, he responded. And not only could he run,
- 16:15Speaker 1: but he felt like he could jump too, and he
- 16:19Speaker 1: tried doing just that. Grandpa bent his knees, crouched down
- 16:25Speaker 1: towards the ground, and leapt up with as much power
- 16:29Speaker 1: as he possibly could. Instead of jumping just a little
- 16:34Speaker 1: bit off the ground as he was used to, he
- 16:38Speaker 1: flew way up in the air, high above all of
- 16:42Speaker 1: the trees. And then he realized when you go up,
- 16:47Speaker 1: well you kind of have to go down as well.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Grandpa began to fall faster and faster and faster. He
- 16:58Speaker 1: thought about bracing him self from the landing, realizing that
- 17:02Speaker 1: there was nothing he could do to stop it. But
- 17:06Speaker 1: that's when he realized he was stopped, stopped in mid air.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He looked down at his knees, and to his surprise,
- 17:18Speaker 1: his knees sprung little tiny jets, jets that allowed him
- 17:24Speaker 1: to float up off the ground directly from his knees.
- 17:29Speaker 1: A very strange sight. Indeed, not knowing what else to do,
- 17:35Speaker 1: Grandpa kind of panicked for a second and showed it
- 17:38Speaker 1: as loud as he possibly could. Once he was done
- 17:43Speaker 1: with freaking out, though, he got back to figuring out
- 17:47Speaker 1: how to control these new jet knees or whatever they were.
- 17:53Speaker 1: He thought about going down towards the ground, and he
- 17:56Speaker 1: found that as soon as he thought about it, his
- 18:00Speaker 1: knees obeyed. He imagined once again himself going down towards
- 18:06Speaker 1: the ground and his knees just kind of let him
- 18:10Speaker 1: do what he asked to do. Then he imagined himself
- 18:14Speaker 1: flying up off the ground and his knees did the
- 18:18Speaker 1: same thing. Grandpa flew quickly back towards his house and
- 18:24Speaker 1: landed in his driveway. He had to tell the grandkids
- 18:29Speaker 1: about this one. Grandpa quickly opened up the garage and
- 18:34Speaker 1: pulled out his keys, but when he saw his car,
- 18:39Speaker 1: something seemed wrong with it. He could just sense that
- 18:44Speaker 1: there was some sort of small issue with the back
- 18:48Speaker 1: left tire. He pulled it out of the garage, grabbed
- 18:53Speaker 1: his tools, and quickly got to work fixing the tire.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But after he fixed the tire, well, he kind of
- 19:01Speaker 1: felt like fixing everything and in an absolute flurry of activity,
- 19:09Speaker 1: he started doing things he didn't even know he could do,
- 19:13Speaker 1: pulling off wheels, rewiring the car, basically kind of maguy
- 19:20Speaker 1: for ring together jets, and all sorts of other fancy devices.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Before long, Grandpa had transformed his very normal looking car
- 19:34Speaker 1: into a very extraordinary looking car. That's better, Grandpa said,
- 19:42Speaker 1: looking at his handiwork. He climbed in the car seat,
- 19:46Speaker 1: started the car up, and then pressed a very special
- 19:51Speaker 1: button he'd just installed. In an instant, the car lifted
- 19:56Speaker 1: up off the ground, the wheels shifted under it, orienting
- 20:01Speaker 1: themselves more like little helicopters or jets, and the car
- 20:08Speaker 1: took off into the air. This is amazing, Grandpa said,
- 20:14Speaker 1: as he slammed his foot down on the gas. Now
- 20:18Speaker 1: Grandpa didn't question too much exactly why he could suddenly
- 20:22Speaker 1: turn ordinary cars into extraordinary flying cars, but he could
- 20:29Speaker 1: certainly tell that something was different. He considered for a
- 20:33Speaker 1: while that the whole thing might actually be a dream,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but when he pinched himself and well felt the normal
- 20:42Speaker 1: pain of pinching himself, he realized that it must be real.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Grandpa flew the car over to his son's house. He
- 20:53Speaker 1: carefully and slowly lowered it down into the driveway. The
- 20:58Speaker 1: door to the house opened up up and out of
- 21:00Speaker 1: it ran Martin, Oliver, and Charlotte, all staring at the
- 21:06Speaker 1: flying car in awe. Uh Grandpa, is that you, they said,
- 21:15Speaker 1: as the door to the car opened up, and sure
- 21:18Speaker 1: enough Grandpa stepped out. It's me, kids, but I woke
- 21:26Speaker 1: up with some kind of a special surprise. Look at this,
- 21:32Speaker 1: Grandpa said, as he pulled up the legs of his pants,
- 21:37Speaker 1: displaying his new robot knees to both of the grandchildren. WHOA,
- 21:44Speaker 1: that's amazing, Oliver responded, seeing the robotic knees, and not
- 21:51Speaker 1: just that, but I seem to now have some sort
- 21:55Speaker 1: of super human ability to fix things, and he've turned
- 22:00Speaker 1: them into other things. Really, Charlotte responded, my bike needs
- 22:08Speaker 1: to be fixed. Charlotte ran towards the shed and grabbed
- 22:14Speaker 1: her little red bike. She ran it back over and
- 22:18Speaker 1: placed it in front of Grandpa.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Can you fix it?
- 22:22Speaker 1: She asked. I can fix anything, Grandpa said. He picked
- 22:30Speaker 1: the bike up in his hands and examined it very carefully.
- 22:35Speaker 1: In fact, I think I can make it better than ever.
- 22:41Speaker 1: One second, Grandpa walked to the back of his car,
- 22:46Speaker 1: with the bike. He grabbed his tool box and in
- 22:50Speaker 1: an instant he began fixing the bike, making sure every
- 22:55Speaker 1: single part of it was perfectly in tune. But as
- 22:59Speaker 1: he did, it just didn't seem like enough. He had
- 23:02Speaker 1: to make the bike better, more advanced, and once again
- 23:08Speaker 1: Grandpa started doing things that he barely understood himself. Before long,
- 23:15Speaker 1: he was done and the bike was no longer any
- 23:20Speaker 1: ordinary bike. He passed it back to Charlotte and she
- 23:25Speaker 1: looked at it in awe and now looked like some
- 23:29Speaker 1: sort of high tech motorcycle or something like that. She
- 23:35Speaker 1: climbed a board and began to press down on the pedals,
- 23:40Speaker 1: but this time, with each pedal forward, the bike moved
- 23:45Speaker 1: at amazing speeds. Charlotte started to zoom around the yard
- 23:50Speaker 1: without any effort at all. Ah, I want to cool
- 23:54Speaker 1: bike like that, Oliver said, disappointed that his sister had
- 24:00Speaker 1: something that he didn't have.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Oh, I think I can help you too, Sun, get
- 24:07Speaker 2: your bike.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Oliver ran to do just that and enthusiastically brought it
- 24:13Speaker 1: back to his grandpa, who, once again, in a flurry
- 24:17Speaker 1: of activity, using knowledge he didn't even know, he had
- 24:22Speaker 1: turned it into some sort of superpowered electric bike. Now,
- 24:29Speaker 1: shall we all go for a ride, Grandpa suggested. The
- 24:35Speaker 1: children put on their helmets and carefully clipped them into place.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Then together they began to pedal their bikes and headed
- 24:44Speaker 1: down the road. They found that they could move faster
- 24:48Speaker 1: than ever before on these things. We have to tell Grandpa,
- 24:53Speaker 1: this is amazing, Oliver said to Charlotte.
- 24:57Speaker 2: You don't have.
- 24:59Speaker 1: To tell him anything. Grandpa responded, I'm right here with you. Man,
- 25:06Speaker 1: to their amazement, he was. Grandpa was just running along
- 25:11Speaker 1: the road easily keeping pace with the two children. His
- 25:16Speaker 1: rowbon knees were something pretty powerful. Oh and I forgot
- 25:22Speaker 1: to mention, I added something a little bit special to
- 25:26Speaker 1: your bikes. See that red button there, Well, press it,
- 25:32Speaker 1: Grandpa said. Oliver and Charlotte came to a stop with
- 25:36Speaker 1: their bikes, and then they did as Grandpa said, pressing
- 25:41Speaker 1: the new red button. Their bikes immediately shot up into
- 25:46Speaker 1: the air, floating a few feet above the ground. Their
- 25:51Speaker 1: tires shifted angles, facing down towards the ground like little
- 25:56Speaker 1: tiny propellers, and then they began to spin around. You
- 26:03Speaker 1: made us flying bikes, Oliver said, in uh, well, in
- 26:11Speaker 1: complete shock and excitement. And with that, Oliver and Charlotte
- 26:18Speaker 1: took off into the air, flying high above the little
- 26:23Speaker 1: small town, above all the trees and forests and lakes nearby,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and Grandpa, using his special rocket powered knees or whatever
- 26:36Speaker 1: they were, followed behind them. The three of them spent
- 26:41Speaker 1: the rest of the afternoon like that, flying from place
- 26:45Speaker 1: to place and getting the hang of their new and
- 26:48Speaker 1: improved bikes. But before long the sun started to set
- 26:54Speaker 1: and Grandpa decided it was time to return home. He
- 26:59Speaker 1: led the children and back over top of the huge
- 27:03Speaker 1: forests and lakes back to their little house just outside
- 27:09Speaker 1: the small town where they lived. The two of them
- 27:13Speaker 1: carefully landed their hover bikes or whatever they were, and
- 27:19Speaker 1: walked them over towards the shed where they stored them
- 27:22Speaker 1: for future use. Thanks, Grandpa, they both said. Men Together,
- 27:29Speaker 1: they ran over and gave Grandpa one of the best
- 27:32Speaker 1: hugs you've ever seen. No problem, Grandpa responded, with my
- 27:40Speaker 1: new found knees and my new found fixing ability, I
- 27:46Speaker 1: should be able to do just about anything. Good night, kids.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Grandpa climbed back inside his flying car. The car began
- 27:59Speaker 1: to hover and then blasted off into the air to
- 28:04Speaker 1: who knows where. Oliver and Charlotte on the other hand, well,
- 28:10Speaker 1: they were pretty tired. The two of them once again
- 28:15Speaker 1: brushed their teeth, put on their pajamas, and climbed into
- 28:20Speaker 1: their beds. They closed their eyes and they just began
- 28:28Speaker 1: to focus on their breath, noticing as it rose and fell,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and with each breath they sank a little bit deeper
- 28:42Speaker 1: into their mattress, and their mind wandered off a little
- 28:48Speaker 1: bit further towards sleep. Good night everyone. It had been
- 28:57Speaker 1: a while since Grandpa Rodees or Dawn as his friends
- 29:02Speaker 1: tended to call him, had received his first major upgrade.
- 29:08Speaker 1: With the help of a friendly spaceship and a strange
- 29:13Speaker 1: magical dragon from another universe, Grandpa Robes got one of
- 29:19Speaker 1: the greatest robotic knee replacements the world had ever seen,
- 29:25Speaker 1: allowing him to run faster than he ever could, jump
- 29:29Speaker 1: higher than he ever imagined, and even fly. On top
- 29:35Speaker 1: of that, a magical card gifted to him by Magnus
- 29:40Speaker 1: the Dragon granted him the ability to fix almost anything
- 29:46Speaker 1: and in vent t almost anything he could think of.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Since then, Grandpa had worked on many projects, upgrading his
- 29:57Speaker 1: flying car into a flying true uck, then generally having
- 30:02Speaker 1: a good time. These days, Grandpa Robones could keep up
- 30:08Speaker 1: with pretty much anyone. The only issue was that most
- 30:12Speaker 1: of his friends could no longer keep up with him,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and that's where our story comes into play. Today, Grandpa
- 30:21Speaker 1: Robonese decided to fly over to his friend Ken's house
- 30:26Speaker 1: inside his newly equipped flying truck. Of course, when he
- 30:32Speaker 1: landed in front of Ken's driveway, he walked up to
- 30:35Speaker 1: the door and knocked a few times, but no one
- 30:41Speaker 1: came to answer. He listened carefully and thought he heard
- 30:46Speaker 1: a faint, distant yell from inside, someone calling for help.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Without hesitation, Grandpa Robonese stepped back and kicked the door
- 31:00Speaker 1: with all of his might, all of his robotic might.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Thanks to his robotic leg strength, the door flew straight
- 31:10Speaker 1: off the hinges and slammed into the wall on the
- 31:13Speaker 1: other side, something he would obviously have to fix later.
- 31:18Speaker 1: As soon as he got inside, he could hear Ken
- 31:22Speaker 1: calling more clearly. The pain in Ken's voice made Grandpa
- 31:27Speaker 1: Robonese panic just a little as he rushed to find
- 31:31Speaker 1: his friend sprawled out on the floor. Ken had fallen
- 31:35Speaker 1: and he couldn't get up. Grandpa quickly called for an
- 31:40Speaker 1: ambulance and help arrived before too long. However, what Grandpa
- 31:46Speaker 1: Robonees didn't realize was that in his panic, he'd accidentally
- 31:52Speaker 1: triggered a signal built into his robotic knee replacement, one
- 31:57Speaker 1: that called a very special space for help, one that
- 32:02Speaker 1: I'm sure many of you have heard of before. After
- 32:06Speaker 1: making sure Ken got to the hospital safely, and after
- 32:11Speaker 1: talking to the doctors who were pretty sure Ken was
- 32:14Speaker 1: gonna need a hip replacement, Grandpa Rowbones left the hospital
- 32:19Speaker 1: and sat down on a bench in the park to think. Suddenly,
- 32:24Speaker 1: he heard a strange sound, like something breaking through the
- 32:29Speaker 1: atmosphere above him, and just as suddenly he found a
- 32:34Speaker 1: tiny toy sized spaceship floating right in front of his head. Hello,
- 32:42Speaker 1: my name is Spaceship, the little craft said in a
- 32:46Speaker 1: cheerful voice. My systems indicate you were in trouble. Is
- 32:52Speaker 1: everything okay? Strangely, unfazed by the floating sentient spaceship and
- 33:00Speaker 1: in front of him, Grandpa robo Knees replied, I guess so.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Rather than the fact that all of my friends are
- 33:10Speaker 1: getting older and older, one of my best friends can
- 33:17Speaker 1: just fell and now he needs a hip replacement. My
- 33:24Speaker 1: only wish they could be in as good a shape
- 33:27Speaker 1: as I am, so we could still hang out and
- 33:33Speaker 1: do the things we used to do together. That is
- 33:37Speaker 1: an excellent idea, Spaceship said, I may be able to help.
- 33:44Speaker 1: After all, I was the one with a little help.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Of course, who gave you your robotic knee replacement in
- 33:52Speaker 1: the first place? You were, Grandpa said, astonished, I always
- 34:00Speaker 1: wondered who did that? Well, thank you, Thank you so much.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Do you think you could help my friends too? I
- 34:11Speaker 1: believe that should be possible, Spaceship replied. With your ability
- 34:17Speaker 1: to fix things and my medical knowledge, nothing should be
- 34:22Speaker 1: beyond our reach. Would you like to come aboard to
- 34:26Speaker 1: discuss the details, sure, Grandpa Robo Knees replied, though he
- 34:35Speaker 1: wasn't quite sure how he was gonna fit aboard a
- 34:38Speaker 1: tiny toy spaceship. But that is when the tiny ship
- 34:43Speaker 1: floated over in front of him and began to glow
- 34:47Speaker 1: a bright blue. It grew larger and larger until it
- 34:53Speaker 1: was the size of a full spaceship. The back hatch
- 34:57Speaker 1: opened and Grandpa Robonees walked inside. He was amazed. There
- 35:05Speaker 1: was a full sized living room, a fully stocked kitchen,
- 35:10Speaker 1: a little play area with books, and at the front,
- 35:14Speaker 1: a command center with two seats and a giant screen.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Welcome to my ship, Spaceship said. The ship took off
- 35:25Speaker 1: into the sky. As Grandpa Robonese and Spaceship began planning,
- 35:31Speaker 1: they talked first about Ken, who would need a new hip,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and then about their good friend Gary, who was stuck
- 35:40Speaker 1: in a wheelchair being pushed around by a nurse. A
- 35:45Speaker 1: nice nurse, but still it wasn't the same as having
- 35:48Speaker 1: your own freedom. Together, they started to design all sorts
- 35:53Speaker 1: of solutions. For Ken, they imagined a mechanical exoskille. It's
- 36:00Speaker 1: an implant that would fold out of his hip, wrap
- 36:03Speaker 1: around his legs and arms, and assist with running, lifting
- 36:08Speaker 1: heavy things, and a few extra gadgets built in for
- 36:13Speaker 1: self defense. Naturally, for Gary, they decided that making his
- 36:19Speaker 1: wheelchair fly would be a great start. No more ramps,
- 36:24Speaker 1: no more stairs. Then, of course, they got a little
- 36:28Speaker 1: carried away. They added weapons, systems, shields, and well pretty
- 36:33Speaker 1: much every gadget they could come up with. Spaceship somehow
- 36:39Speaker 1: magically created a giant workshop in the back of the ship,
- 36:44Speaker 1: filled with every tool Grandpa rob Needs could possibly need.
- 36:50Speaker 1: With Spaceship three D printing parts and Grandpa assembling them,
- 36:56Speaker 1: it didn't take long to finish the new exoskeleton and
- 37:00Speaker 1: hover chair. Now it was time to deliver the upgrades.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Late that night, Spaceship, who for some reason could shrink
- 37:10Speaker 1: down to the size of a fly with Grandpa Robones inside,
- 37:15Speaker 1: snuck into the hospital. They grew just large enough for
- 37:20Speaker 1: a team of robots to snatch Ken from the hospital
- 37:23Speaker 1: room and place him aboard the ship. They got to
- 37:28Speaker 1: work immediately. Once the exoskeleton implant was completed. They woke
- 37:35Speaker 1: Ken up. What where am I? Ken asked, groggly. Don't worry, Ken,
- 37:44Speaker 1: Grandpa Robones said warmly, Everything is okay. We've just done
- 37:51Speaker 1: a little upgrading. Now try to stand up. Ken swung
- 37:59Speaker 1: his legs the side of the bed, and to his surprise,
- 38:04Speaker 1: he stood up easily. Wow, he said, this hip is great.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I feel better than ever where. Just wait till you
- 38:18Speaker 1: say the secret phrase. Grandpa row Bones grinned.
- 38:23Speaker 2: To ies, saying, jerryatric Justice.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Ken raised an eyebrow. What is this some kind of joke,
- 38:35Speaker 1: No joke at all, Grandpa said, so, Ken, slightly amused,
- 38:42Speaker 1: said it proudly, Jeriatric Justice. Suddenly, little mechanical gadgets shot
- 38:51Speaker 1: out of his hips, wrapping down his legs and up
- 38:55Speaker 1: across his body and arms, forming into a full exo
- 39:00Speaker 1: skeleton suit. WHOA Ken said, I feel so powerful. Spaceship
- 39:09Speaker 1: landed in front of an open field, allowing Ken to
- 39:14Speaker 1: test out his powers. Ken started by running and soon
- 39:20Speaker 1: realized he could run faster than he ever had before.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Then he tried jumping, discovering he could jump hundreds of
- 39:30Speaker 1: feet into the air. Next, he decided to try out
- 39:34Speaker 1: his strength by picking up some stones, which were far
- 39:38Speaker 1: too easy. He moved on to some large boulders that
- 39:43Speaker 1: were lining the park and had no trouble picking them
- 39:47Speaker 1: up either. Then he grabbed a hold of the trunk
- 39:52Speaker 1: of a tree and ripped it straight out of the ground,
- 39:56Speaker 1: something he later felt bad about. After they were done
- 40:03Speaker 1: testing Ken's new powers, they flew to Gary's house. They
- 40:09Speaker 1: knocked on the door and the kind nurse opened it up. Gary,
- 40:15Speaker 1: We've brought you a present, he announced. The hoverchair floated
- 40:21Speaker 1: in behind him for me. Gary asked his eyes wide
- 40:29Speaker 1: for you, Grandpa, Roebonese said. They helped Gary into the
- 40:35Speaker 1: hoverchair and taught him the controls. Soon Gary was zipping
- 40:40Speaker 1: around in circles, flying up and down and laughing like
- 40:45Speaker 1: a little kid. Well, Grandpa Roebonese said, I guess was
- 40:51Speaker 1: some sort of justice squad. Now, yeah, Ken said the
- 40:58Speaker 1: Geriatric Justice Squad, And with that the team was officially born.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Their first mission didn't come from some sort of dramatic
- 41:12Speaker 1: signal in the sky or a little red phone that
- 41:16Speaker 1: was connected directly to the Commissioner's office. It came from
- 41:21Speaker 1: a phone call their friend, Mabel, it seems, had fallen
- 41:27Speaker 1: victim to a scam, tricked into buying Amazon gift cards
- 41:33Speaker 1: for criminals posing as her grandson. Stuck in jail, she
- 41:38Speaker 1: lost all of her money. This is a travesty, Grandpa
- 41:45Speaker 1: Roebonese declared. We need to do something I would like
- 41:52Speaker 1: to help. Spaceship said, but I have another mission to
- 41:56Speaker 1: attend to. However, I track the scammer's location. Here, take
- 42:03Speaker 1: this map. Spaceship handed them a little paper map marked
- 42:09Speaker 1: scammers headquarters. Thank you, Spaceship, they said. Spaceship zoomed off
- 42:18Speaker 1: into space once again, leaving the Geriatric Justice Squad to
- 42:23Speaker 1: handle things without Spaceship to ride inside. The three of
- 42:29Speaker 1: them loaded into the flying truck, putting Gary in the back,
- 42:33Speaker 1: of course, and blasted off into the sky. They flew
- 42:40Speaker 1: high above the clouds across oceans and over top of
- 42:45Speaker 1: countries until they reached the scammer's headquarters, a shady looking
- 42:52Speaker 1: office building in a very crowded city. Landing in the
- 42:58Speaker 1: parking lot, they marched inside. At the reception desk, a
- 43:04Speaker 1: woman smiled, hellou, can I help you well? Here for
- 43:11Speaker 1: the scammers, Grandpa Rowbones said, scammers. We don't have any
- 43:18Speaker 1: scammers here, she insisted. Oh no, Grandpa Roebonese said, pointing
- 43:26Speaker 1: to a door labeled scam Room. What's behind there?
- 43:32Speaker 2: Then?
- 43:34Speaker 1: Oh? That no, that's totally just sort of like an
- 43:37Speaker 1: inside joke we have. There's no scammers through that room,
- 43:42Speaker 1: the receptionist assured him, But Grandpa Robonese wasn't buying it.
- 43:49Speaker 1: He stormed over and kicked the door open with all
- 43:53Speaker 1: of his robotic might. Inside was a room absolutely full
- 43:59Speaker 1: of scam all talking on phones, working on computers, and
- 44:05Speaker 1: clearly trying to trick people. Hey you, Grandpa robones shouted,
- 44:13Speaker 1: you're scamming days ah rova. The scammers stopped what they
- 44:19Speaker 1: were doing, looked at the three old men, and then
- 44:25Speaker 1: they all broke out laughing hysterically. Oh you gonna do,
- 44:31Speaker 1: old man, one sneered, beat us up with your old broom.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Without a word, Grandpa Rowbones rushed to a computer. Ken
- 44:45Speaker 1: used his exoskeleton to restrain one of the scammers while
- 44:50Speaker 1: Grandpa hacked into their systems. Soon every computer in the
- 44:56Speaker 1: room was counting down from two minutes. If my friend's
- 45:02Speaker 1: money isn't returned by the time this hits zero, Grandpa said,
- 45:09Speaker 1: all of your information goes public and your bank account
- 45:15Speaker 1: gets emptied into the world's worst charity anyone could ever imagine.
- 45:22Speaker 1: The scammer started to panic. None of them were sure
- 45:26Speaker 1: what the world's worst charity was, but none of them
- 45:30Speaker 1: wanted to give money to charity at all. Unsure of
- 45:34Speaker 1: what else to do, they attacked. Luckily, the cheriatric justice
- 45:42Speaker 1: squad was ready. Grandpa roe Bones darted forward with robotic speed,
- 45:49Speaker 1: flipping one scammer over his shoulder and sending him flying
- 45:54Speaker 1: into a copier machine. He unleashed spinning kicks that sent
- 45:59Speaker 1: others brawling, his mechanical knees glowing with each impact. Ken
- 46:05Speaker 1: once again activated his exoskeleton, metal bracing his body, and
- 46:12Speaker 1: he bulldozed into a group of scammers, lifting one in
- 46:17Speaker 1: each hand like toy dolls and tossing them into a pile.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Gary spun in the air with his hover chair, unleashing
- 46:26Speaker 1: an arsenal of gadgets. A water cannon blasted scammers into
- 46:31Speaker 1: the wall of freeze, Ray locked others in blocks of ice,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and a grappling hook swung down from the ceiling, scooping
- 46:41Speaker 1: up an unlucky scammer like a claw machine prize. More
- 46:46Speaker 1: scammers charged, but Gary's hoverchair deployed a mini shield, bouncing
- 46:52Speaker 1: them back like rubber balls. Grandpa Robo Knees vaulted over desks,
- 46:58Speaker 1: hurling a coffee pot that exploded into a cloud of
- 47:02Speaker 1: hot TEA Ken picked up an entire office desk and
- 47:07Speaker 1: used it like a battering ram. One scammer tried sneaking
- 47:11Speaker 1: up behind them, only for Gary to fire a sticky
- 47:15Speaker 1: net that wrapped the attacker like a fly in a
- 47:18Speaker 1: spider's web. It wasn't long before the scammers were either
- 47:23Speaker 1: knocked out, frozen, tied up, or just plain cowering in fear.
- 47:30Speaker 1: And then the countdown on the computers hit zero. Well,
- 47:36Speaker 1: what happens now, Ken asked, does all the money get
- 47:41Speaker 1: transferred to that charity? Grandpa Robees chuckled Hi, who was
- 47:47Speaker 1: just bluffing about that all I actually did was start
- 47:52Speaker 1: a time a counting down on all of the computers.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Nothing wheally happens when it hit zero, but it clearly
- 48:01Speaker 1: got them working. Now, with a little more time, I
- 48:05Speaker 1: may actually be able to reverse things, Grandpa Robonese said.
- 48:12Speaker 1: He sat down on the computer and furiously started hitting
- 48:17Speaker 1: all sorts of different buttons, tracing scam after scam, collecting
- 48:24Speaker 1: money and returning it to as many people as he
- 48:28Speaker 1: possibly could. With the job done, the geriatric Justice Squad
- 48:34Speaker 1: called the police and headed back outside to Grandpa Robonese
- 48:41Speaker 1: flying truck. The truck hovered up into the air, the
- 48:47Speaker 1: tires folded in underneath it, and once again they blasted
- 48:53Speaker 1: off into the sky, high above the clouds, passing quickly
- 49:00Speaker 1: over different countries, across the ocean and back home. Grandpa
- 49:08Speaker 1: rob Knees dropped off Ken first and then Gary, before
- 49:15Speaker 1: eventually returning to his own home. He carefully landed the
- 49:20Speaker 1: truck in the driveway, walked inside all the way whistling.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Having his friends be able to participate in an adventure
- 49:34Speaker 1: like that really had his spirits up. That being said,
- 49:39Speaker 1: he was feeling pretty tired. Grandpa climbed into the nearest
- 49:45Speaker 1: bed he could find, pulled the covers up to his chin,
- 49:50Speaker 1: and allowed his head to hit the pillow. With each breath,
- 49:57Speaker 1: he released a little more tension, and from his muscles,
- 50:02Speaker 1: his body sank down deeper and deeper into the mattress,
- 50:09Speaker 1: and he allowed his mind to wander off to dreams
- 50:15Speaker 1: of new things and new geriatric justice to come. Good night, everyone,
- 51:34Speaker 1: M M S.
- 59:12Speaker 3: More than M New York, M more Union, no more, never,
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: ne
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: M M
