- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Yo, we're the zone runners.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: And this time we're at Pumpkin Hill.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: You ain't ready.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: I ain't gonna let it get to me.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna creep.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Down him up until I got to find my lost peace.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: The great emerald's power allows me to feel.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I can't see a thing, but it's around somewhere.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna hold my head, cause I have no fear.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Probably seems crazy.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: A graveyard theory, but a ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
- 0:32unknown: Asked him a question and he vanished in a second.
- 0:34unknown: I'm walking through valleys, crying pumpkins in the alleys.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: It didn't seem happy, but they sure tried to get me.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Had to back him up with the fist, metal cracklein'.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: I'm hearing someone seeing you as a chicken.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Don't be scared.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: It had to be the wind, cause nobody wasn't there.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: I searched and I searched as I climbed up the wall.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And then I started to fly.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I went deeper.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: That's gonna break.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: And I got to find my block.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: Gonna hold my head cause I got nothing to fear.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: I'll still crazy brain be ready.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Don't try to poach me, it gotta leave.
- 1:15SPEAKER_05: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Remix Podcast.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: My name is Zach, and I once dressed up as Ash Ketchum for Halloween.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: This was 1998, before Pokemon merch was widely available in the US, so my mom went as far as to sew me a Pikachu plush to carry around.
- 1:32SPEAKER_05: Anyway, this is episode number 11, which is the most ones we will have in an episode number until episode number 101, which will be about seven years from now.
- 1:43SPEAKER_05: While we are covering the news and new music of September today, I have to acknowledge that the audience, both of them, will be listening to this in that most spooky of months.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: So all of our background music will be appropriately spooky.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: Starting with the Zone Runners cover of the Pumpkin Hill theme from Sonic Adventure to Graveyard Theory.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: First, the news.
- 3:47SPEAKER_05: All of which are worth playing if you haven't already.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: I particularly like Gravity Crush.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: If you're listening to this shortly after release, voting will still be ongoing, so go vote.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: In other news, T-Sori has announced a new space-themed Overclock remix album.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: But not just space-themed, specifically moon-themed.
- 4:09SPEAKER_05: I've been keeping an eye on who is claiming what track, and I am excited.
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: Unfortunately, my suggestion to just make a second Disguise of Arcadia album, because the moons are so important in that game, was shot down.
- 4:22SPEAKER_05: But oh well.
- 4:24SPEAKER_05: You probably already knew about this, but Demonds suddenly dropped a Hollow Knight EP last month.
- 4:30SPEAKER_05: We'll be listening to it later, so keep your ears peeled.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: That is a horrible turn of phrase.
- 4:37SPEAKER_05: The news music this month was Vampithrillic from Castlevania by Just Coffee.
- 4:45SPEAKER_05: Let's dig into these new releases.
- 9:55SPEAKER_05: This is about as far from the original piece as I can imagine, though.
- 9:59SPEAKER_05: Great EDM mix from the Voodoo Queen.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: This was originally from the Pixel Mixers Wind Waker album, but re-jiggered a little for OCR.
- 10:08SPEAKER_05: My understanding is on the Pixel Mixers album there was some sort of restriction on what kind of samples you can use.
- 10:15SPEAKER_05: I do love the game samples in this.
- 10:18SPEAKER_05: Up next, we reject Pandora's box with I Can't Be Your Ray of Hope from Final Fantasy VI.
- 15:07SPEAKER_05: The key combo consists of Pipco Fanfare on arrangement, drum, and bass, and this is her third OCR track and second Final Fantasy VI track.
- 15:16SPEAKER_05: I am super happy for her to be returning to Final Fantasy VI.
- 15:20SPEAKER_05: I love that soundtrack.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: But also, the key combo has April Murphy on alto and tenor sacks, and Lampy23 on piano, both of whom are sort of newcomers.
- 15:32SPEAKER_05: You've heard Lampy before because they were on Team Etrion for GameSet MASH 3.
- 15:38SPEAKER_05: A quick word about this track.
- 15:40SPEAKER_05: This is such a smooth, jazzy cover of three moody themes, all of which are associated with one of the more central characters, Terra.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: We're mixing up Terra's theme, Another World of Beasts, and Awakening.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: I think they were all one song originally when they performed like this.
- 16:00SPEAKER_05: Let's move on to more Final Fantasy goodness with Victoria.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: This track has a nice fake out, starting with a very sweet orchestral snippet of Aaron's theme, before just going nuts with a dark symphonic metal take on one winged angel.
- 23:55SPEAKER_05: And for crediting, okay, I think I'm being trolle here.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: They put together a legit orchestra for this track.
- 24:04SPEAKER_05: A small one, but still an orchestra.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: With wire.
- 24:10SPEAKER_05: There are so many people on this track that OCR busted out the rarely used various artists for the ID3 tags.
- 24:18SPEAKER_05: Most of this episode is going to be me just reading the credits to this one song.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: My mind fairly boggles at this, and I need to credit these people.
- 24:30SPEAKER_05: This, by the way, was a dwelling of duels track.
- 24:33SPEAKER_05: They put this together in a month.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: I didn't even win, I got seven! Alright, let's talk about credits.
- 24:43SPEAKER_05: So arrangement and productions was Zach Parrish.
- 24:46SPEAKER_05: Vocal arrangement was Colorado Weeks.
- 24:49SPEAKER_05: Percussion arrangement was Hyrididdle Josh.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: Guitar arrangement Pixel Zach.
- 24:55SPEAKER_05: Ridley Snipes handled mixing and mastering.
- 24:57SPEAKER_05: Ridley Snipes and Zach Parrish handled editing.
- 25:00SPEAKER_05: Prophetic music edited the vocals specifically.
- 25:03SPEAKER_05: Colorado Weeks wrote the lyrics.
- 25:06SPEAKER_05: Eminator did sound design.
- 25:08SPEAKER_05: Now let's talk about the orchestra.
- 25:11SPEAKER_05: Lead violin was Shea's violin.
- 25:14SPEAKER_05: Violin and Viola was Castrel Girl.
- 25:17SPEAKER_05: Chromatic Apparatus played the cello.
- 25:20SPEAKER_05: Travis Kindred played Contrabass.
- 25:22SPEAKER_05: T.
- 25:22SPEAKER_05: Sori played the trumpet.
- 25:24SPEAKER_05: French horn was John Stacy.
- 25:26SPEAKER_05: Trombone was Zalif.
- 25:28SPEAKER_05: Gamer of the Winds, as always, provided the flute.
- 25:31SPEAKER_05: Pearl Pixel did oboe.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: Andrew Gossett played the bassoon.
- 25:35SPEAKER_05: Saxophones were prophetic music.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: Nicole Chang played the harp.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: Paradiddles Josh did some percussion on the program.
- 25:43SPEAKER_05: And then Mel Decision did some percussion on number four.
- 25:47SPEAKER_05: Okay, that's the orchestra section.
- 25:49SPEAKER_05: Let's talk about the band section.
- 25:50SPEAKER_05: Pixel Ceph on lead guitar, Pixel C and Jabbo on Rhythm Guitar, Jabbo on bass, and some more programmed drums from Paradiddles Josh.
- 26:01SPEAKER_05: And now the choir.
- 26:22SPEAKER_05: Last but not least are bass, Andrew Gossett, Cyril the Wolf, Hemophiliac, Lucas Guimares, and Paradiddles Josh.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: And prophetic music.
- 26:33SPEAKER_05: Good lord! That is a lot of credits reading.
- 26:36SPEAKER_05: I hope that all of these people appreciate it.
- 26:39SPEAKER_05: Up next we have Death's Last Dance from Shinbigami Tensei Persona 3 by the Crazy Ace.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: I quite enjoy the original track, and I quite enjoy this one as well.
- 31:30SPEAKER_05: The guitar sounds wonderful.
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: Now the Crazy Apes aren't just anyone, they are in fact a band full of names that you have heard before.
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: Lucas Guimares did the arrangement.
- 31:42SPEAKER_05: Zach Parrish played guitars and bass, some additional strings, and did the mixing and mastering.
- 31:48SPEAKER_05: Pixel Z added more guitars.
- 31:51SPEAKER_05: And Herodle Josh played percussion.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: Next we have Dearly Departing from Final Fantasy VI by Zach Parish.
- 36:33SPEAKER_05: When you put it in the right context, at least until the second half of the track, where suddenly it becomes very metal, which I appreciate.
- 36:42SPEAKER_05: This was a Zack Parrish solo track.
- 36:45SPEAKER_05: He submitted this to Dwelling of Duels and managed to nab the silver for that month just to push himself farther as a solo artist.
- 36:54SPEAKER_05: Gotta appreciate that drive for self-improvement.
- 36:57SPEAKER_05: Next up we've got Nightmare Glasses from Animal Well by Michael Hudak.
- 40:19SPEAKER_05: Which I'm still hoping people will remix one of these days.
- 40:24SPEAKER_05: I didn't actually play last year's Indie Darling Animal well, so I can't speak to how well the source material is represented, but the comments on the mix post lead me to believe that it's fairly well represented.
- 40:35SPEAKER_05: I hear that the original source tunes are, quote unquote, bonkers.
- 40:40SPEAKER_05: I really like this track, though, as a track on its own.
- 40:44SPEAKER_05: Michael Hudak did a fantastic job.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: Up next, I need to inform you that the real trigger was the Friends We Made along the way.
- 40:53SPEAKER_05: Which is also the title of the next track.
- 40:56SPEAKER_05: From Honotriger by Triple B music featuring Jan Wake, Yvonne Sharma, Rogue Drummer, Striker, and Justin Wilder.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: The mix post describes this track as comfort food of the best sort, and yeah, it's a familiar theme from a familiar game in a familiar style, and it's just executed perfectly.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: It's not quite all the way to metal, I describe this more as instrumental hard rock, and it's got everything that you could expect or want from that genre.
- 45:17SPEAKER_05: It is wonderful.
- 45:19SPEAKER_05: Let's talk crediting.
- 45:21SPEAKER_05: Triple B music here is assisted by JayN Wake on the Keys, Rock Drummer on the Drums, Streifig and Devon Sharma on lead guitar, and Justin Wilbakes on drum recording and editing.
- 45:35SPEAKER_05: Up next we have Twilight Lamentations by Azina from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.
- 48:56SPEAKER_05: Reminds me of the kind of thing Masashi Hamazu would do.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: The piano is very forward in the mix, and it's got some of his harmonic palette to very rich, somewhat jazzy chords.
- 49:07SPEAKER_05: Reminds me a lot of the Thunderplane theme from Final Fantasy X.
- 49:13SPEAKER_05: I really also should replay Twilight Princess one of these days.
- 49:17SPEAKER_05: It's probably the Zelda I'm the least familiar with at this point.
- 49:21SPEAKER_05: It came out when I was in college, and I was just too busy studying to really give it my full attention.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: But enough about me! Kudos to Newcomer Azina for making that classic newcomer's mistake of setting the bar too high.
- 49:36SPEAKER_05: Up next, we have a Timaeus 222 track from Pokemon Sleep Eternal Wonder.
- 49:43SPEAKER_05: But that weird Latin spelling of Eternal that starts with an A E instead of just an Easter.
- 55:11SPEAKER_05: If you can call Pokemon Sleep even a game, I guess it is.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: It's just a game that you mostly play while unconscious.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: I tried it out, but I thought actually spending all of the rewards you get for sleeping was a little annoying, a little fiddly.
- 55:27SPEAKER_05: But back to the mix.
- 55:28SPEAKER_05: To me, it sounds very Mega Man X.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: Specifically Mega Man X4.
- 55:33SPEAKER_05: It's got that sort of same instrumental palette.
- 55:36SPEAKER_05: Maybe a little more drumboard.
- 55:39SPEAKER_05: Okay, a lot more drumboard.
- 55:41SPEAKER_05: It's quite rhythmic.
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: I love how energetic it is for a sleep game.
- 55:46SPEAKER_05: At least until like the last 10 seconds of the mix, which is great to fall asleep with.
- 55:52SPEAKER_05: Apparently, this is Timaeus' tenth Pokemon remix, officially making him franchise champion.
- 55:59SPEAKER_05: Up next, we've got Fight for My Friends from Flowstone Saga by Hemophiliac featuring T Sort of.
- 59:44SPEAKER_05: Second, it's basically a Tetris JRPG.
- 59:48SPEAKER_05: If that sounds like your jam, go play it.
- 59:51SPEAKER_05: Third, remixer Oceans Andrew wrote the soundtrack, and this is a great cover.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: Because the synth wave meets acoustic thing really well.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_05: Unconventionally.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_05: Have I heard Synth Wave with live piano?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_05: Have I heard Synthwave with Live Trumpet?
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_05: No, that's a first for me.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_05: The trumpet really compliments the synths and sounds kind of I don't know, haunting.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_05: Appropriate for October, I guess.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: Team Opheliac did the arrangement, and T Story provided the trumpet.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_05: Up next, we've got Twenty Thousand Bananas Under the Sea from Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze by JN Wick.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_05: I thought Tropical Freeze was better than Bonanza.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_05: That's it.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_05: I've come clean.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_05: It's the truth.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_05: Bonanza's great! But it just keeps going.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_05: And the gameplay is a little bit janky, not as satisfying.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_05: I keep having this issue.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, Olivia also has an issue with the game.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, tell them all about it.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_05: I keep having this issue where I jump like a frame too late and I've already started clinging to a wall.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_05: It's very annoying.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_05: And also the game just uses up all of its little tricks and surprises super early on, and then it's just a slog after maybe the sixth or seventh layer.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_05: Anyway, that is very unlike this track, which remains completely awesome all the way through.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_05: I love the callbacks to aquatic ambiance and Lockjaw's Locker, and nothing.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Warms me up to a track like that funky Adams in the face.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_05: Jane Wake truly is the Lord of Zen.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_05: Up next is a song that might sound a little familiar.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_05: It's Ready to Go by Argol from Super Mario RPG.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_05: You have heard this one before.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_05: For some reason, this track from the remix album Super Mario RPG Window to the Stars never got submitted to OCR Proper back in 2017.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_05: Argyle himself says he has no idea why he didn't submit it back in the day.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_05: As for what I think, this is Olivia has something to say too.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_05: This is one of my favorite tracks from that album.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_05: It's such a bouncy, happy take on the Yokoshimamura original, which of course also incorporates the Goji Kondo original original.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_05: I'm happy to see this getting wider exposure.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_05: I imagine there are people out there who maybe don't listen to all the albums, but do listen to all the tracks, and they're getting a treat today.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: Up next is Sweep Beyond from Custodian by Gaspound.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_05: It's apparently about a cat with a broom, and I think I like the soundtrack.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_05: Sounds like my kind of game, honestly.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_05: I love the groove this has going, and the melody is super strong.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_05: Uh, it reminds me of Gianna Sisters Twisted Dreams.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_05: So that's not the old C64 Mario ripoff great Giana Sisters, but there was a mild IP revival around 2012 uh called Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, which is a great game if you haven't played it.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_05: It's a platformer very much in the vein of the Donkey Kong Country games.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_05: And the soundtrack, well, it sounds like this.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_05: I listen to that OST a lot, actually.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_05: It's one of my favorites.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_05: So saying that this reminds me of that, big compliment.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_05: Gaspod did a great job here.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_05: Up next is This Is My Memory by Blue Lighter from Remember Me.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_05: Although I did not play it.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_05: What I didn't know is that it was set in Neo Paris.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_05: And the composer, Olivier Derivier, is French.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_05: And you may have heard his work before, he was also the lead composer on the Streets of Rage 4, and he did a fine job of it.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_05: Oh, also, and the remixer Blue Lighter is French.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_05: And he did a fine job of this.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_05: This is a pretty percussion-heavy orchestral piece, which really does give it that tense moment in the movie soundtrack feel.
- 1:20:29SPEAKER_05: Which makes sense, as this is apparently a boss battle track, and that's the feel that Blue Lighter was going for.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_05: Uh mission accomplished.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_05: Now, if you're following along on the OCR submissions feed, you're going to notice a gap.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_05: The next track that I should be covering is the Demons track from Hollow Knight.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_05: But we're going to showcase that entire Hollow Knight EP at the end of the episode.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna skip right over to that and head to Dreamland.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_05: Our next track will be Bunkers by JN Wake from Kirby Triple Deluxe.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_05: And a Kirby one too.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_05: I love the music of Hirokazu Ando and Jun Ishikawa.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_05: And JN Wake.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_05: This took second place in its month for Dwelling of Duels.
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_05: Deserved.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_05: Just listen to that solo rock out.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_05: And this has such let's change it up in the middle! Prog rock energy.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_05: Also, Triple Deluxe was just a good time.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_05: I may be in the minority here, but I think I liked it a little more than Planet Robobot.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_05: The robots slash ride armor slash Magitech armor, whatever you want to call those.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_05: They were cool, but Triple Deluxe just had this tight and cohesive feel and had a great level design.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_05: Anyway, moving on.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_05: Our next track is VTuber Emblem and Rage by Tony Dickinson and Red Hat.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_05: I didn't play Engage, but I would say the overall feel of this track is pretty emblematic of the series.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_05: Eh?
- 1:32:10SPEAKER_05: Eh?
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_05: Oh, whatever.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_05: Anyway, this track won Best Jazz and Funk Track at the 2025 Game Music Remix Awards.
- 1:32:19SPEAKER_05: Which was an award so I was totally unaware of.
- 1:32:23SPEAKER_05: I'll be keeping my eyes peeled and ears open for the 2026 ones.
- 1:32:27SPEAKER_05: But I mean, yeah, listen to this.
- 1:32:29SPEAKER_05: It's jazzy, it's funky.
- 1:32:31SPEAKER_05: And it does have this sweet but brief pivot to metal.
- 1:32:34SPEAKER_05: Before pivoting back to something that honestly reminds me of nothing so much as a theme of grandia.
- 1:32:40SPEAKER_05: As for the very important question of where the heck this track title came from, it's apparently a reference to the criticism that all the character designs of Fire Emblem Engage look like V-tubers, and yeah, I can see that.
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_05: So who brought us all this great music?
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_05: Well, Tony Dickinson arranged and played the bass.
- 1:33:00SPEAKER_05: Playing the bass also being what he does when touring with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
- 1:33:07SPEAKER_05: Eli Bishop recorded the violin, Numa Joe played the saxophone, and Don Polloney played the drums.
- 1:33:14SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:33:15SPEAKER_05: Up next we've got another new Final Fantasy VIX track.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_05: Hence the name Temporary Tina.
- 1:36:45SPEAKER_05: Tina being the Japanese name of the character you're probably more familiar with as Terra.
- 1:36:52SPEAKER_05: This is a lovely, very emotive take on such a classic track.
- 1:36:56SPEAKER_05: And also, I find that when you put the original melody in this context, it really feels like it's got its foot halfway into the Final Fantasy VII OSD.
- 1:37:05SPEAKER_05: It's really interesting to see the connections between tracks like this.
- 1:37:09SPEAKER_05: Up next is Tron Looper by Mike Norvak from Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun.
- 1:41:20SPEAKER_05: Which is a shame because universally the ones I've tried have had great soundtracks.
- 1:41:26SPEAKER_05: Honestly, I just need to go back and explore more of 90s PC gaming in general.
- 1:41:31SPEAKER_05: It's mostly unexplored territory for me, but clearly I'm missing out.
- 1:41:35SPEAKER_05: At the time, my mom had this thing about the computer is only for edutainment, and so games just didn't really happen for me, except on Nintendo and Sega Systems.
- 1:41:48SPEAKER_05: Now there really is some meat to this synthwave remix, just incredibly tight stuff.
- 1:41:53SPEAKER_05: This is the third time we've played a new Mike Norvack track since I started the podcast, and this is also the first one from a game that I didn't play.
- 1:42:03SPEAKER_05: His style really holds up, even when I don't know the source material.
- 1:42:08SPEAKER_05: Up next is El Gran Timoteo Cayendo, which is Spanish for the great Timothy Fallen, because the original was a Tim Fallen track.
- 1:42:18SPEAKER_05: Ha ha ha.
- 1:42:18SPEAKER_05: This is by Tibenev from Sky Shark.
- 1:45:11SPEAKER_05: Which Tibanev has rearranged into this incredible acoustic guitar piece for Dwelling of Duels, the Tornado of Solos competition.
- 1:45:21SPEAKER_05: All this goodness is live performed, including the clapping, which is the only part that yours truly would be able to play.
- 1:45:29SPEAKER_05: I can't quite tell, this might be performed on an honest to God classical guitar, not just Spanish style on a bog standard acoustic guitar.
- 1:45:39SPEAKER_05: Up next, it's time to get some sun.
- 1:49:03SPEAKER_05: Well, I guess maybe like Nobuo Uamatsu and RPGs.
- 1:49:09SPEAKER_05: Or Hitoshi Sakamoto and RPGs.
- 1:49:12SPEAKER_05: Look anyway, there's a lot of great duos.
- 1:49:14SPEAKER_05: This though, this track, is a fun bounty take on a great original source tune.
- 1:49:19SPEAKER_05: I have no notes.
- 1:49:21SPEAKER_05: I change nothing.
- 1:49:23SPEAKER_05: I love the quickity of the interject part way through.
- 1:53:04SPEAKER_05: Argyll music just has this sweet, dreamy quality to it.
- 1:53:08SPEAKER_05: And this choice of Source Tune really plays to his strengths as a songwriter.
- 1:53:12SPEAKER_05: I think another really great example of this sort of track from Argyll is his Super Mario Land remix Mario Ascends to the Clouds.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_05: He's a really talented dude, even if he has bad opinions about file extensions.
- 1:53:26SPEAKER_05: And if you went in on that injoke, you should chat with Argyll and myself and others on the official Overclock Remix Discord server.
- 1:53:33SPEAKER_05: Links on the main page.
- 1:56:26SPEAKER_05: And in all of those remixes, I don't think there's anything quite like this hard-hitting DV bar.
- 1:56:32SPEAKER_05: Really gets your blood pumping.
- 1:56:33SPEAKER_05: This is Saro's second remix.
- 1:56:36SPEAKER_05: The first one was over a decade ago, a Kingdom Hearts track from 2014.
- 1:56:41SPEAKER_05: Welcome back.
- 1:56:42SPEAKER_05: I hope you've got more remixes in the pipeline.
- 1:56:44SPEAKER_05: All right, it's time for a segment.
- 2:00:34SPEAKER_05: I played it for maybe five hours, and it just did not grab me like at all.
- 2:00:40SPEAKER_05: Frankly, it's enduring popularity.
- 2:00:42SPEAKER_05: It is a complete mystery to me.
- 2:00:45SPEAKER_05: It's definitely not a bad game.
- 2:00:48SPEAKER_05: It's really competent.
- 2:00:49SPEAKER_05: I could call it good.
- 2:00:50SPEAKER_05: There's no real flaws that I could point out.
- 2:00:53SPEAKER_05: I just didn't vibe with it.
- 2:00:55SPEAKER_05: But clearly a lot of people did.
- 2:00:57SPEAKER_05: And one of them is veteran remixer Demonds, who released a four-song EP of Hollow Knight music that we're about to listen to.
- 2:01:06SPEAKER_05: And even though I didn't really get into Hollow Knight as a game, I loved the soundtrack.
- 2:01:12SPEAKER_05: I was super happy that Demons gave us four more remixes of its hauntingly beautiful music.
- 2:01:18SPEAKER_05: We're going to listen to the whole thing.
- 2:01:21SPEAKER_05: But on the whole, I would describe this EP, a night for a night, as well, it's got a lot of good elements that I like.
- 2:01:32SPEAKER_05: Reminds me of the last soundtrack or Ivy and Sewer Shoes and the piano album The Black Box.
- 2:01:39SPEAKER_05: Excellent album.
- 2:01:40SPEAKER_05: If you haven't checked it out, it's not VGM, but it's really good.
- 2:01:44SPEAKER_05: I think VGM fans would enjoy it.
- 2:01:47SPEAKER_05: The bouncy bass lines and shimmering sounds of a night for a night remind me most of Tim Folland's excellent Echo the Dolphin Defender of the Future soundtrack.
- 2:01:57SPEAKER_05: It's good.
- 2:01:58SPEAKER_05: And we're gonna listen to the rest of it now.
- 2:02:01SPEAKER_05: All tracks are arranged by Demons.
- 2:02:04SPEAKER_05: And the soundtrack, A Dream, also featured Christine Gaguerre.
- 2:02:09SPEAKER_05: I think I'm cello.
- 2:02:10SPEAKER_05: Next we'll listen to A Choice, a Path, and finally, A Memory.
- 2:02:17SPEAKER_05: That last track also featuring Christine Gaguerre.
- 2:16:41SPEAKER_05: And there's another month in the book.
- 2:16:43SPEAKER_05: Next month we'll be covering remixes for that episode of seasons.
- 2:16:48SPEAKER_05: But as I talk these words into a microphone, our first community Halloween album, an overclock Halloween, is mirroring release.
- 2:16:56SPEAKER_05: Keep an eye out for it.
- 2:16:57SPEAKER_05: Our interstitial music this month was Malevolent Mansion from Banjo Kazooie by Soul Signal and NeccoFrog.
- 2:17:04SPEAKER_05: Talk about an all-timer Halloween level in-game.
- 2:17:07SPEAKER_05: I think Banjo's Mad Monster Mansion might be my favorite.
- 2:17:12SPEAKER_05: I didn't think anything was gonna top Mario Land 2's Pumpkin Zone, but I love Mad Monster Mansion.
- 2:17:19SPEAKER_05: Our spooky Halloween outro music this month was Big Boo Badman by Megan Echo from Super Mario World.
- 2:17:27SPEAKER_05: If you have money left over after all that Halloween candy you bought and want to give some away for some reason, allow me to direct you to the Overclocked Remix Patreon, or available from the main page at OCRemix.org.
- 2:17:41SPEAKER_05: If you want to support this podcast directly, you can from the main page.buzzsprout.com.
- 2:17:49SPEAKER_05: Any money I make above and beyond podcast-related expenses will go straight to OC Remix itself.
- 2:17:55SPEAKER_05: And now, last but not least, let's do the monthly remix roulette.
- 2:18:01SPEAKER_05: Alright, I've got my six-sided die ready.
- 2:18:06SPEAKER_05: Alright, that's a two, so we have Please, please make it rain by Benjipod from The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
- 2:18:16SPEAKER_05: Have a good one, and I'll see you next month.
