- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome back to a Greek guest. Today, we are in
- 0:27a paranormal hot spot in the basement of the Sally House.
- 0:31We're gonna be doing a little grab bag of sorts today,
- 0:34starting off with the portraits, which is ak the Cab
- 0:38in the Woods, which is apparently a classic that you read.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Og got posted everywhere back in the day.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We're also going to cover the bath game, and then
- 0:46we're going to go into our Stories of the day,
- 0:48which is an empty prison and an ending on my
- 0:51students submitted the most disturbing living history project I've ever seen.
- 0:55Pretty excited before we get into it, I just want
- 0:58to say thank you to spot to find Apple podcast listeners,
- 1:02and of course to our beautiful patrons for making it
- 1:04possible for us to be here and be tormented. I'm
- 1:06almost positive that there is a possum in this hole
- 1:09in the wall over there, and it's scary.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah. So, for those who didn't watch the last episode
- 1:14or however many ago it was on how these things
- 1:16get edited. We are inside of the Sally House and.
- 1:19Speaker 1: What's the town's name, Atchinson, Kansas.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Atchins in Kansas. This house is regarded as being one
- 1:26of the most haunted houses in America. As legend has it,
- 1:29back in the eighteen hundreds, this basement that we are
- 1:31in now was used as a makeshift hospital before hospitals
- 1:36in the region. One day, a little girl named Sally
- 1:39came here with stomach pains and tragically died on the
- 1:41table during an appadectomy.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I had not been dec to me, yeah, but you're alive. Well,
- 1:46but I was gonna say, I don't know if I
- 1:48don't know if you can see it, but can you
- 1:50see my appendix scar in the infrared?
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's pretty cool? But you lived well.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I guess what, Isaiah, what I'm the ghost saying is
- 2:00she's jealous.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, if the ghost is gonna get anyone, it's you,
- 2:04because you lived.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I don't have an appendix for her to take.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I mean, it's jealousy. We're also talking about like an
- 2:11eight year old child.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean, she's one hundred. She's over one hundred years old.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Now, that's sure, she's pretty old by now. She's a
- 2:18little bit of compassion perspective. Perhaps.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Also, this place has been you know, it's been a
- 2:23little spooky. I will say the spookiest thing that happened
- 2:25so far as the DoorDash driver that dropped up dropped
- 2:27off our taco bell for the last episode, which it
- 2:29was delicious. I wish I had another breeder now was uh.
- 2:33They wouldn't even drop the thing knocked.
- 2:35Speaker 2: On the door and then they ran to the corner
- 2:37of the street and they had to Harry go out
- 2:39and find him because he's like, I'm not standing at
- 2:42the door. Yeah, that's how freaked out people are of
- 2:44this house, which I will say has been some pretty
- 2:46creepy stuff if you were putting it on the Patreon
- 2:49right our vlog of like walking through the house and
- 2:51talking about it and all that, visiting the town and
- 2:54stuff like that. There is a lot of weird stuff
- 3:00in the house. People have dreams of, like dead children.
- 3:03There is a room where people come and leave toys
- 3:06for Sally and stuff like that where we recorded the
- 3:09last episode. Very creepy. So now we are in the dark,
- 3:13very dingy. Basement is all completely off. Lights are all
- 3:17completely off. I can fill my throat closing up as
- 3:19I'm down here is getting to me.
- 3:24Speaker 1: The open the open dry wall here is there is
- 3:29a kid you not.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We were reading about this place that someone was kicked
- 3:34out because they tried to perform a ritual to summon
- 3:36BL's above and you can see the mark in the floor.
- 3:41Nick is sitting on it. Nick is sitting on the
- 3:43mark on the floor where they made the sigil to
- 3:45try to summon the devil. It's right there. So it's
- 3:49a very freaky place. There's also a giant hole in
- 3:51the wall that you can't see all the way back
- 3:55in it like bows to the right, and they have.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's fenced off.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's fenced off. They fenced off a hole in the
- 4:00wall as if there's something back there there keeping it there.
- 4:03We keep hearing weird noises coming.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm almost one hundred percent positive it's either door for
- 4:07it's a possum. Similar noises coming from yes, yes, similar noises.
- 4:14Probably similar noises coming from the hole. I don't know.
- 4:17But to start off, I'm gonna read that. This is
- 4:19a very short story. I'm gonna read it. Just just
- 4:22idn't hold hold of it?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Can you? Also? So before we start recording, I asked.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Or we man tell you what that seriously? I might
- 4:32I might just take a break for a second. I
- 4:34that taco bell is fucking running serious right now? Oh my,
- 4:38I took a piss I'll hold it.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But I like, we did all this to set up
- 4:44for recording.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That double I didn't think about it. That double beef
- 4:48burrito with the potatoes added to it has fucking it's
- 4:52like a it's an actual spring trap on my stomach. Okay,
- 4:55let me just let me just get into the flow
- 4:57of it here, Okay, hold on, hold on.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Or the episodes started, I kept asking are we cool?
- 5:01And you didn't answer me.
- 5:03Speaker 1: What do you mean? What are we cool about?
- 5:04Speaker 2: What? Like? It's the show cool? Are we cool? No? This?
- 5:07Speaker 3: No?
- 5:08Speaker 1: God, no, are you fucking kidding me?
- 5:10Speaker 2: No?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Have you seen all the YouTube videos people doing this shit? No,
- 5:12it's fucking cringe. We're cringe, but we're reading. But see
- 5:15it works because we're reading cringey stories at a haunted house.
- 5:20I mean, like it's cohesive.
- 5:22Speaker 2: God.
- 5:25Speaker 1: All right, Well, this first one's called The Portraits aka
- 5:28Cabin in the Woods. Isaiah, you've read this one? Yeah, okay,
- 5:32well here we go, here we go. I'm gonna read
- 5:35it verset. Look, I didn't get you that Diablo Sauce.
- 5:37I was asking for it too, wasn't I?
- 5:39Speaker 3: So he was.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I'm luck I'm luckyb I'm lucky approached that bitch raw
- 5:43because I tell you that was if I would have
- 5:44had some Diablo sauce on that, it would be a
- 5:46different ballgame.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Right now.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Holy Hill. Okay. There was a hunter in the woods who,
- 5:51after a long day hunting, was in the middle of
- 5:54an immense forest. It was getting dark, and having lost
- 5:57his bearings, he decided to head in one direction until
- 5:59he was clear of the increasingly oppressive foliage. After what
- 6:03seemed like hours, he came across the cabin in a
- 6:05small clearing. Realizing how dark it had grown, he decided
- 6:09to see if he could stay there for the night.
- 6:11He approached and found the door jar. Nobody was inside.
- 6:15The hunter flopped down on the single bed, deciding to
- 6:18explain himself to the owner in the morning. As he
- 6:20looked around, he was surprised to see the walls adorned
- 6:23by many portraits, all painted an incredible detail without exception.
- 6:29They appeared to I heard that that was something we
- 6:37have that flashlight, Nick, Why do you have to say
- 6:38like that. It's like, it's just it's just such a
- 6:42fucking it's an immediate like accepting defeat God. The way
- 6:47Nick said that was very uh yeah, yeah, we're dead.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, while Nick's over here, like, don't worry everyone.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Without exception, they appeared to be staring down at him,
- 7:06their features twisted into looks of hatred. Staring back, he
- 7:11grew increasing and uncomfortable, Making a concerted effort to ignore
- 7:14the many hateful faces. He turned to face the wall
- 7:17and exhausted, he fell into a restless sleep. Face down
- 7:21in an unfamiliar bed, he turned blinking in an unexpected sunlight.
- 7:26Looking up, he discovered that the cabin had no portraits,
- 7:30only windows. That's fun people looking at him in the dark.
- 7:34I mean, how cool is that? And see what was
- 7:35fucked up is out now? With that bang, Nick, just
- 7:38immediately accept that fucking defeat, that we're gonna die now,
- 7:41I just expect that in there. I'm like, I'm not
- 7:43even joking. I keep looking over there, and I keep
- 7:45feeling like I see some kind of fucking figure.
- 7:46Speaker 2: On the show. So I'm not I'm not gonna lie.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Shut up, don't even say fucking anything something back there.
- 7:52I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say fucking anything. I'm
- 7:56saying that I don't even know what I saw.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Just so, guys, I really we need to put a
- 8:00picture on screen. I can't explain to you how much
- 8:03of a death dungeon this thing looks like, Yeah, we
- 8:06have to put all right. So I actually have to
- 8:08quit looking at it because I keep looking at this
- 8:10one spot. Flashlight right now. Someone get a flashlight right now,
- 8:14and china into that hole in the wall. What do
- 8:18you mean you did it? Break? Okay? All right, I'm
- 8:21I'm a little okay.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You guys are spooking me out. Dude, I'm fucking freaking
- 8:26myself out.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Okay, So there's about to be a flashlight to dispel this.
- 8:30But I look, I'm looking in that top right corner,
- 8:32and I swear I keep seeing, dude, shut the I
- 8:35keep seeing this. To keep here's the wall. I keep seeing.
- 8:39You're fucking with me, I swear. The longer I look,
- 8:42it's like uh uh uh huh. So I just need
- 8:45you to shine a light so I know it's my
- 8:46eyes plaining.
- 8:47Speaker 1: What the are we gonna It's like a Middle Eastern
- 8:50man down here.
- 8:53Speaker 2: You know what it is? Okay?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Do you see how from here you can see that
- 8:55brick a little bit back on this Oh my god,
- 8:57that mound of dirt. Yeah, this is a start of
- 9:02a horror movie.
- 9:03Speaker 2: It's like the.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Whole what what, what the fuck are we doing?
- 9:07Speaker 2: Shut the that brick that's in the top right from
- 9:11right here. It is right on the press of what
- 9:14you see. So it showing and going. It looks like
- 9:17it's moving.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It's horrible. Yes, and it's like it's it's an illusion
- 9:23and it's horrible. Okay, all right, so that's wait. So
- 9:30you know, at first, you know, I thought it was
- 9:31I thought this was like a who the who's the
- 9:34fucking like fat little girl that goes to the bear's
- 9:36house little red writing no, no, no, Goldilocks. I thought it
- 9:44was that vibe for a second, Yeah, the whole idea though.
- 9:47All the faces look that's fun.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, this used to get passed around all the time. Uh,
- 9:51and it'd be like it'd be accompanied with images like
- 9:53scary portraits and stuff like that, or like an empty woods.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Is it not a groom's fairy tale? It has that
- 9:58such a vibe.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I mean, it has a related to it, but I
- 10:00don't think it's literally a grim's fairy tale. I remember
- 10:03this game passed around the time that like the Stairs
- 10:05in the Woods were popular and stuff like that. Oh,
- 10:07it's like you come across weird structures out of the woods.
- 10:10What they mean? What could it be about? And I
- 10:11like the idea that this cabin is like an open
- 10:14door for anyone to come lay in, but then they're
- 10:16watched for some reason. It's also just a great zinger on.
- 10:19Speaker 1: The end, no point, it's great. I mean, my god,
- 10:21was there even a minute long? Besides my dyslexia? I
- 10:23mean that have been that would have been a thirty
- 10:25second read.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, well it's it's a very powerful little kick.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I read that one here. We put in here the
- 10:32Bath Game. Do you want to do? You want to
- 10:33read the basket and explain what it is.
- 10:35Speaker 2: To the Bath Game. So the Bath Game we did
- 10:37a video at one point when we it's the one
- 10:39we did the Bring Her Back gray Water. In the
- 10:42Greywater video, we covered a series of ritual creepypastas where
- 10:45it's like you perform some action and then like a
- 10:48thing like the Midnight Game and stuff like that. So
- 10:50the Bath Game is one of those.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And given that we are in a house with a
- 10:54spirit that keeps showing up through the wall over there,
- 10:58this one's about somebody in a spirit though, did you
- 11:02hear a cat mew right now? Yeah?
- 11:05Speaker 1: No, okay earlier, Yes, you heard one earlier, but not
- 11:09right now right now? You heard a cat me out earlier?
- 11:12You fucking why didn't you say anything?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Why do I hear it right now?
- 11:16Speaker 5: Cat?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Nick, you're setting on a satanic signal.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I hate on top of him, no ship, I hate
- 11:23that you're in the You're in the creakest fucking chair, no,
- 11:26no man, And then you keep shifting back and forth
- 11:29and you keep saying it's just a cat. You sick fuck. Also,
- 11:36I think my foot swollen from the being so asleep.
- 11:38Speaker 2: There's gonna be a giant hand reached down and just
- 11:41flip me through the floorboards. I don't like that. Oh yeah,
- 11:48I really like it either, Nick.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I don't like that.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I don't Oh, I say it's dead.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I don't like to a bummer?
- 12:01Speaker 2: All right? The Bath Game, The bath Game, formerly known
- 12:05as rumas sand.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Does that mean holy?
- 12:12Speaker 2: The tone I approached that way?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Formally known as Daruma sand? This this bitch comes from overseas?
- 12:17Are you fucking kidding me?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Ruba Jomaica Islamic, Darumah Daruma is Islamic. Now it isn't
- 12:27this isn't this is an.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Islamic bath game. No, are you fucking We're just I
- 12:32can barely see your face, you cocksucker.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I'm telling you you're freaking out right.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He's just alway seeing the I see the darkest just what,
- 12:40I'm just looking at your smiling at me.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Bath game formerly known as Daruma San, is an old
- 12:48game surrounding a ghost from a bathtub that follows you
- 12:50all day. Ms can result in bad things happening to you,
- 12:55even death.
- 12:55Speaker 1: It's kind of fun. It's like it's not even you
- 12:57might not even.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Get killed, but it still it's like it could you
- 13:00never know things that you will need bathroom with the bathtub.
- 13:03I'll just figure starting the game, Step one, before you
- 13:07go to bed, take off all your clothes, all right.
- 13:10Step two enter the bathroom, fill up the bathtub, and
- 13:13turn out all the lights. Step three. Sit in the
- 13:16middle of the tub while facing the faucet. Tap, close
- 13:20your eyes, wash your hair.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Step four.
- 13:23Speaker 2: As you wash your hair, told repeat these words.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Msom fell down. Dumasong fell down.
- 13:31Speaker 6: So it looks like the dull is a traditional Japanese hollow.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Nick.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Why did you say it was Islamic.
- 13:48Speaker 2: All right II, Maja Nick said it in his room
- 13:53like the turbine in the prayer Chick. I saw someone
- 14:04comment on a Pop of Me video one time. Anytime
- 14:06Nick speaks, I have to get ready. Step four, do
- 14:12not stop repeating this until you finish washing your hair.
- 14:16Your eyes must remain shut. Step five. As you wash
- 14:20your hair, you will picture a Japanese woman standing in
- 14:22the bathtub. You will slip and fall into a rusty tap,
- 14:26gouging her eye out, killing her Jesus. Step six. You
- 14:31will hear a sound coming from behind you or feel
- 14:33a movement in the bath Do not turn around or peak.
- 14:37You will finally summon the ghost. You will feel her
- 14:40presence she emerges out of the bathtub, ask out.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Loud, why did you fall in the bathtub?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Step seven. The boy you said that was very choosator, idiot.
- 14:58Step seven you can finally get out of the bathtub
- 15:01and make sure your eyes remain shut. Make sure not
- 15:04to slip or trip as you get out of the bath.
- 15:07Not drain the water until the next morning. Step eight.
- 15:10Shut the door behind you. Now safe to open your eyes.
- 15:14Keep the water in the bathtub until morning. Do not
- 15:18turn any lights on go to bed. The woman is
- 15:21a ghostly figure that will follow you all day. He
- 15:24wears tattered and stained white clothes with black hair. She
- 15:27has only one eye. Your left eye is wide open
- 15:30and bloodshot. Her right eye is missing, leaving bloody hollow
- 15:35eye socket. When you wake up in the morning, game
- 15:37will begin. Your day will begin normal until you will
- 15:41feel the presence of the one eyed Woman glancing over
- 15:43your right shoulder. When you turn around, she will not
- 15:46be there. She will get closer and closer as your
- 15:49day goes on. Not let her catch you. If the
- 15:52one eyed Woman is getting too close, you should shout
- 15:55to maare, which means stop, then run away fast. We'll
- 16:01put a distance between you and the woman. You must
- 16:03end this game before midnight, or else you will keep
- 16:05stalking you and appear in your dreams to kill you.
- 16:08In the game, you must catch a glimpse of the
- 16:11one eyed woman and shout.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Kita, which means I cut you loose while.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Swinging your arm in a chopping motion. The game will end.
- 16:19One eyed Woman won't follow you anymore. We'll number one.
- 16:23Do not open your eyes when the ghost first appears.
- 16:26Will number two. Do not let the one eyed woman
- 16:28trip you when you leave the bathtub. Rule number three,
- 16:32do not re enter the bathroom after you leave. We'll
- 16:35number four not drain the bath until morning. Rule number
- 16:38five do not let the one eyed woman catch you.
- 16:41This game is very dangerous. It can get you killed
- 16:45when you get out of the bathtub. It's very important
- 16:47to play with caution.
- 16:49Speaker 1: What a fucking demented, fucking Japanese game that is?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Huh well, it is like you want to touch the
- 16:56supernatural and like there ain't no fucking touching your You
- 16:59basically make you know, you make it.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You make a Japanese pirate that follows you around all day.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You know who it would have.
- 17:08Speaker 6: You wouldn't even nightmares, Miss Watson, Kay, you're in Yeah,
- 17:15gotcha guy, You're in one, Miss wont Well.
- 17:19Speaker 1: When you put it like that, also, this literally does
- 17:23sound like a perverts fantasy of like, also, be sure
- 17:26to take your clothes off, wash your hair very rapidly,
- 17:28but don't open your eyes, and then also don't drain
- 17:31the water till morning. What do you think they're doing
- 17:33with water?
- 17:35Speaker 2: The implication is you're mimicking the steps of the woman.
- 17:37If you're hearing it's taking a shower and fell and died,
- 17:39and the water stayed until someone found her the next morning.
- 17:42Speaker 1: If you hear somebody, if you hear somebody drinking the
- 17:44bathtob water with a straw, don't look it kind of
- 17:50from ye then y'all, then Y'allama, it's it's a curat.
- 17:56Speaker 2: There's one face, and the mistake gets passed around on
- 17:59my round a lot online as a scary image that
- 18:04I think might actually be related to this story. Yeah,
- 18:07I can't find the image right now. I was just
- 18:08pulling up like stuff from the crutch, which is what
- 18:10I'm looking for. But there's this imager that goes around
- 18:12line that I think only has one eye. I think
- 18:16might have come for this, but it's the images often
- 18:17detached from the story. If I can find it in post,
- 18:19we'll show it. But I think that stories like this
- 18:26are for people that I could see it working with
- 18:29a narrative like the character we just read about in
- 18:31our last story at Infinum, where it's someone who is
- 18:34at the end of the rope needs something, needs to
- 18:36change something, and it's like, what have I got to lose?
- 18:39Kind of thing, right, I could see them doing a
- 18:41game like this to touch the other side to see
- 18:44what's beyond the veil sort of.
- 18:46Speaker 1: When I said look over at your right shoulder, I
- 18:47fucking did it, and I scared the fuck out of myself.
- 18:50Speaker 2: What'd you look out?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I looked at Well, there's just a there's a silver
- 18:55handle there, but I thought it was eyes.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Scare me.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Have fun this one. But anyway, we can go on,
- 19:01all right, But what do you think of that? What
- 19:03do you think of the ritual games? I mean, they're not.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mean I like the idea because it's just like
- 19:09this was this was this was like fan fiction before
- 19:14the internet. To me, this is like what this is
- 19:16what those kinds of people did before the internet existed
- 19:20or whatever. So the people would pass on this. I
- 19:23just mean, like it's just people being like is this cool?
- 19:26Like that kind of thing, and it's whatever that mindset is.
- 19:28It doesn't make a lot of sense what I'm saying.
- 19:29I'm just end not even urban legends. They're just saying,
- 19:32like that kind of person that would be, like, you know,
- 19:34like someone who's obsessed with what's a show? What's a
- 19:36popular show? Supernatural? Really?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Really, why don't you just.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Say monk while you're at a dude, you went, never
- 19:50fucking mind.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's it's fun. They're fun. But at the same time,
- 19:56just like, what.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Kind of fucking psychopath would do this? Dude, God, so Supernatural,
- 20:00shut the fun. I've never heard you once say that.
- 20:02For what's a popular show, Supernatural?
- 20:07Speaker 2: You want to know some horrible information? What did surprise
- 20:10you to know? I used to be super into Supernatural.
- 20:13Speaker 1: It's a good it's a good show. I'm not saying
- 20:14it's I'm not saying that the show is not good.
- 20:16It's just a funny thing to write, like you could
- 20:18have said the Sopranos or anything like, I don't.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Know anything that isn't Supernatural.

- 24:27Speaker 1: Can you give me a hint of what it was?
- 24:29It's an a basement, it wasn't Is it really?
- 24:32Speaker 2: Is the basement storry kind of?
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's a recluse. Is it the one where it's the
- 24:37guy who's stuck in his apartment or whatever?
- 24:40Speaker 2: Not? Not the one we read recently about the pill
- 24:43that keeps them going?
- 24:44Speaker 3: No?
- 24:44Speaker 1: No, no, I'm talking about the one where it's like
- 24:45a guy is isolating, He's like looking through the little hole.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and he thinks that everyone's been turned into aliens.
- 24:51Yeah okay, yeah, that's him. Psychosis is the name of psychosis.
- 24:53There you go, So m fifty nine Gar wrote that
- 24:56he's reading a bunch of other stuff too. Among After
- 24:59we read Psychosis for Creek Cast, a bunch of people
- 25:02recommended this one as a follow up.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Amus you said among among Omas is that still popular.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Nothing would make me happier?
- 25:11Speaker 1: Could they get you? Could they get you?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Pussy? Now you think like it? Nothing would make me
- 25:15happier than It's like a retro meme. If something flew
- 25:19out of that fence at one hundred miles an hour
- 25:21directly into you.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 25:30Speaker 1: As. I bet you anything, people are gonna be like,
- 25:35I bet you there's I don't think if you're If
- 25:37you're a good enough looking guy and you're going to
- 25:38like a twenty eight year OLDLD, you probably could say
- 25:40amogas and you get your stress. It's probably true.
- 25:43Speaker 2: They probably think you're saying it's ironic. What do you think, amongas,
- 25:49you're horrible? You're actually.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Amagas supernatural? I think your sah, please fuck me, okay,
- 26:07please split me open? Is that have you have you
- 26:13on iron lay, she said to a girl before.
- 26:18Speaker 3: You.
- 26:19Speaker 2: That sounded like detail with that. That's never.
- 26:25Speaker 3: This guy.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I'm just a little guy.
- 26:29Speaker 1: What are you looking up like?
- 26:30Speaker 2: It's just like a bunch of trying to find this
- 26:32one image.
- 26:32Speaker 1: God, just can we read an empty prison?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Freaking you know?
- 26:36Speaker 1: No, none of none of those bring that just gaate born.
- 26:43Speaker 2: He's on as that go off? Save sure? All right?
- 26:51An empty prison? But what what's the actual name of
- 26:55Matt Damirski? Matki is an empty prison sounds like a
- 26:59hockey player. A single day added onto my sentences, the
- 27:04difference between a normal jail and unindie nightmare.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Hold on a second, Nick, what are you doing? He
- 27:12little goblin?
- 27:13Speaker 2: He's fucking getting up.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Where are you going near the gate?
- 27:16Speaker 2: I was checking on the camera. Okay, okay, all right,
- 27:19go ahead, stands up, randomly walk up to the Hold
- 27:25this right.
- 27:26Speaker 1: He's he literally sat there. I sit there and I
- 27:28look at it.
- 27:29Speaker 3: He's just like.
- 27:34Speaker 1: He like crawls off. It's the fucking scariest thing. And
- 27:39he's in the creakiest, oldest Polish chair.
- 27:41Speaker 2: That could find on on something that's been well established
- 27:46as a demonic summit in schel.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And Loui Georgie. All right, empty prison, Come on, let's
- 27:56get no one messed around seriously A.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Single day added on to my It's meant the difference
- 28:00between a normal jail and the unending nightmare of ben
- 28:04being a prison. I was supposed to get three hundred
- 28:06and sixty four days, that was the deal. The judge
- 28:10didn't like my attitude. What over the hell that meant,
- 28:12so he made it three hundred and sixty five boom.
- 28:16One year was the minimum for prison. My lawyer made
- 28:19a stink in half but didn't do any good. It's
- 28:23not his fault. Fact he's the one who's going to
- 28:25release this statement to the press or leak it online.
- 28:28If the Guardian Corrections Group the GCG tries to get
- 28:32an injunction on us. People have to know what happened.
- 28:36I've been being a prison. I'm going to put it
- 28:39right out there and tell you that it was haunted.
- 28:43You think I'm joking knots or line, but you have
- 28:46no idea. Haunted prisons aren't anything like you imagine those
- 28:50places that advertise themselves and give people tours or sick
- 28:54jokes compared to the real thing. It got so bad
- 28:57that you can actually look up GCG's official Fire Islands
- 29:00from chapter eleven. That ship put them out of business
- 29:03on their very first prison. And right there on the
- 29:06briefs using an early statute of North Dakota law from
- 29:09eighteen fifty seven to follow an insurance claim, it says
- 29:13site of Fambina Prison confirmed by Governor's office and two
- 29:17notary publics witnessing in person to be afflicted by the
- 29:21supernatural such that continued business is impossible.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm donia, okay, what I don't want to say. I'm
- 29:31not even going to say it.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Say it. This is a show, and you have to.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck. If it's a show, Fuck them.
- 29:37Speaker 2: It is a horror podcast. Give me something. I'm afraid.
- 29:43Why are you doing that? Did you do that? Note?
- 29:48Actually made me mad? Just then I got nick got scared.
- 29:53But the way he got scared, the way he got scared,
- 29:57and I'm not kidding, I saw him. It was like,
- 30:08it's like Freddie Mercury just dem.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Well.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I thought it was the possum getting in the event
- 30:17or something.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry, did the ghost of my grandfather just show
- 30:27up in the.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Room with us?
- 30:28Speaker 3: Oh?
- 30:28Speaker 1: My god?
- 30:29Speaker 2: The setting.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's fucked up because it's just like I'll tell you
- 30:41it's a haunting, and I just like you kind of
- 30:43like settle it in. But then I just keep like,
- 30:45I'm like, we're in a very.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Scared right now.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I keep getting in my head about it.
- 30:51Speaker 2: What did you see over there that freak you out? Okay?
- 30:53Speaker 1: So this was too bright? I looked over and then
- 30:56I like, you know, when the image a little dots, Yeah,
- 30:59so I go for and it looked like a white
- 31:01bald head in there.
- 31:03Speaker 2: That's what I keep seeing out of that right corner.
- 31:07Speaker 4: That's the demon.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Shut the fuck up.
- 31:11Speaker 2: It might be the possums getting into the van.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Do you think so? Is that's who?
- 31:23Speaker 3: Na?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Oh God, let's just keep reading.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Going to keep reading any more comments from the Peanut
- 31:36Gallery before we continue. Side of beIN a prison confirmed
- 31:41by governor's office and two notary publics witnessing in person
- 31:45to be afflicted by the supernatural such that continued business
- 31:48is impossible. It wasn't the first time the prison was
- 31:52closed for that reason either. Leeches kept buying it and
- 31:55reopening it, hoping to make a buck off the common man.
- 31:59And I was into that hell hole without knowing the
- 32:02history even a single bit. Don't get me wrong, The
- 32:05building itself wasn't so bad, especially for something straight out
- 32:09of eighteen fifty three. It was a big stone cube
- 32:12that was squat heavy and cramped, but way less sealed
- 32:15off than modern prisons. We could see a lot of
- 32:18the cells around us. There was only one main hallway
- 32:21per floor, and we were close enough to pass things
- 32:24between the bars and have some real human interaction. Could
- 32:27have been worse. There were five floors in capacity for
- 32:31five hundred prisoners. When I first got there, I had
- 32:34a bunch of cell mates and I heard there were
- 32:36two thousand guys locked up, and I believed it, but
- 32:40that soon changed. I didn't talk to anyone for the
- 32:43first three weeks. Never been a real prison before, and
- 32:47I was messed up over it. I didn't want to
- 32:49accept that I would be in that place and stuck
- 32:52with three other guys in my cell for an entire year.
- 32:56The whole prison seemed full of feral men. The bottom
- 32:59floor would start screaming and hollering and panicking in the
- 33:02middle of the night, all at once. We were on
- 33:05the top floor, but we could hear their screams echoing
- 33:07through the open old layout length. They were right there
- 33:10with us. I just thought the prisoners on the bottom
- 33:13floor were all nuts until the guards weren't there to
- 33:16wake us up. The first day my fourth week, when
- 33:19I woke up in my corner without some asshole guard
- 33:22banging on the bars of our cell, I finally had
- 33:25to talk. I asked one of my cell mates, Dante,
- 33:28what was going on, And I'll never forget the fear
- 33:31in his voice as he said something that should have
- 33:34made us all incredibly happy.
- 33:36Speaker 1: The guards are all gone, man.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Prisoners were talking quietly between the cells and loudly between
- 33:41the floors through various whispers and shouts. But the most
- 33:45we could figure out was that something on the first
- 33:48floor and made them all quit in protest. Sure must
- 33:51have been the crazy screaming like that during the night, right,
- 33:54except none of us could get any word from the
- 33:56bottom floor. It was dead silent down there. The guys
- 34:00on the second called out for hours. Someone was down there,
- 34:04they said, because they could hear shuffling footsteps walking around
- 34:07at random ever so often, but whoever it was never
- 34:11said a single word. That was the first time Dante
- 34:14mentioned the crazy stories from the first floor. He muttered
- 34:18that he hoped none of that was true, but when
- 34:20I asked about it, he just shook his head.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Nothing man, None of it ever made sense.
- 34:26Speaker 2: We were a little worried as the day wore on,
- 34:28and nobody came to let us out for breakfast, and
- 34:31then nobody came to let us out for lunch. The
- 34:34time we usually got to spend outside in the yard
- 34:36came and went, and people began getting restless, and they
- 34:39cell they were left. Dante's friend Will began telling guys
- 34:43to pass the word that we should all calm down
- 34:44and start sharing any food we had a hold away.
- 34:47I remember asking Dante, is it really that bad?
- 34:51Speaker 1: They'd nine meals in yard times for a day or
- 34:53two before, But the other two guys in our cell
- 34:56didn't look convinced.
- 34:58Speaker 2: One of them said, like.
- 35:00Speaker 1: This, they mean damn sure. We knew what they did.
- 35:03Speaker 2: They never just up and left. Someone hated us pieces
- 35:06of crusty old bread through the bars as much appreciated.
- 35:10New guards didn't show up for work for another full day.
- 35:13We got plenty of yard time that day from these
- 35:15new guys, but they seemed more confused than us. We
- 35:19all watched from a distance. As we all asked a
- 35:21guard about what happened? Are shrugged.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I don't know. GCG was paying a premium for fast tire,
- 35:27so I signed up. What about the prisoners on the
- 35:30first floor. We could still hear them shuffling around down there.
- 35:34We looked on the way out of the yard and
- 35:36we couldn't see anyone. Huh, nobody in there. They all
- 35:41got transferred. Transferred the hell that mean? It means the
- 35:46doc R took him back, returned to state custody since
- 35:49the company couldn't handle them.
- 35:50Speaker 2: That made sense if the floor had been full of
- 35:53nut jobs, then North Dakota's first local private prison company
- 35:56hardly had the experience to handle them. But these news
- 35:59guys didn't even have the skills to handle us. There
- 36:02were half as many guards as before, and they didn't
- 36:04know the routines or who the dangerous ones were among us.
- 36:08As a result, they were distant, scared, and forceful, all
- 36:12except one guy, Kellen. Kellen wasn't the first guard to
- 36:16treat us like human beings, but by then he was
- 36:19the only one around. Traded jokes while on the yard,
- 36:22never hit us, and looked us in the eyes when
- 36:24he talked. He went and found some paperwork to confirm
- 36:27the crazies had actually been transferred, but it took three
- 36:29months to get that info out of GCG. By the
- 36:33time he told us he'd heard back, it's sort of
- 36:35forgotten the whole thing. Two nights later, maybe two hours,
- 36:38pass lights out, guys on the second floor and screaming.
- 36:43Monte leapt up and fell on one of our cellmates
- 36:46by accident, before.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Shouting shit must be a fire.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Other guys in our row began banging on the bars
- 36:52and shouting for the guards, but the uniforms charged past
- 36:56and headed downstairs without talking to us. We could hear
- 36:58them shouting orders down below and then yelling in confusion.
- 37:01The prisoner of screams were clear coming from the second
- 37:04It sounded like they were terrified if something in particular
- 37:07wanted help. Sounds of gates being slammed and people running
- 37:12reached us after about ten minutes of shouting. Then it
- 37:15was silent, said in the dark, waiting and listening till morning.
- 37:19When the new shift came in. They were surprised and confused.
- 37:22Kellen came by to ask what had happened. We told
- 37:24him what we knew, but he'd shown up and found
- 37:27open gates in an empty second floor. There's no indication
- 37:30what had happened, but he promised to check with the
- 37:32corporate and figure out if the absent prisoners all been
- 37:35rapidly transferred. Again, Dante gripped the bars and made sure
- 37:38Kellen was looking at him.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Please find out who the hell is walking around down
- 37:41there at night, Ellen blanked him. I mean, I'm day shift,
- 37:45so I don't know what I can do. But but
- 37:48what do you mean the prisoners are gone?
- 37:51Speaker 2: Dante told him fiercely, quietly, But.
- 37:53Speaker 1: The guys on the third floor said they still hear someone,
- 37:57maybe two or three of someone's shuffling their feet every hour,
- 38:00so until morning, I guess I could go look right now.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Until reached through the bars and grabbed his uniform. Some
- 38:06moods usually got us a beating.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Hear me, Do not go on there by yourself, stay
- 38:12in the stairwellunless someone's with you.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Kellen nodded, fearfully, looked like he finally understood how spooked
- 38:17we were. He waved another guard off, Dante let go.
- 38:21Nothing more came of it for a whole season. Night
- 38:24chips quit, more guards got hired, at an even higher pay.
- 38:29Kellen had another uniform scoped out the first two floors
- 38:31but found nothing. Dante thought it was because they were
- 38:34looking during the day, but he wasn't about to ask
- 38:37our only friend to risk himself. It was maybe three
- 38:40months later. Yeah, I was halfway through my sentence now.
- 38:44I had taken up drawing, so I had pin and
- 38:45paper when we woke up in the middle of the night,
- 38:48everyone on the third floor screaming in an absolute panic.
- 38:53I do like this recurring thing. It's almost like water
- 38:55rising up through the other floors and there's no I mean,
- 38:58it sounds like there's a cover up with them. Everyone
- 39:00was transferred, yea, but it's like there's this evil approaching
- 39:05getting closer. This time we were less scared during the
- 39:08event itself. Will offer to guard racing past five hundred
- 39:12bucks from his commissary account if the man would come
- 39:15back and tell them what was going on. Dante listened intently,
- 39:18trying to hear individual screams from the third floor over
- 39:21everyone else's shouting and confusion. Down any words he thought
- 39:25he had heard, But I wrote down.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Jesus Christ killing him. God let us out coming this way.
- 39:35Speaker 2: We weren't as scared when it was happening because we'd
- 39:37lived through it twice before, but this time, long term
- 39:41fear was much deeper. Now we knew for sure that
- 39:44it was going to happen again, and any prisoners that
- 39:47had the means began lawyering up and doing everything they
- 39:50could transfer to other prisons, even if it meant worse conditions.
- 39:55The problem was North Dakota prison system was already overflowing,
- 40:00which was the whole reason GCG got started in the
- 40:02first place, so every guy that got out meant it
- 40:05was that much harder for the rest of us. Both
- 40:08of our cell mates transferred, giving us more space, so
- 40:10that was nice, but it was small consolation. Apparently word
- 40:16had started to spread on the outside, and GCG's solution,
- 40:20instead of paying the guards even more, was to stop
- 40:22having a night shift at all, except for just one
- 40:25poor guy. Hellen was a bit miffed he hadn't gotten
- 40:28a raise out of the whole thing, but we're starting
- 40:30to believe us something was going on. By then, he'd
- 40:34been around a while and he knew we weren't bullshitters.
- 40:37Too many of the other prisoners had told him they'd
- 40:39heard something walking around the first, second, and third floors
- 40:43at random during the night. It was just a few steps,
- 40:47sometimes as many as twenty, but it only happened every
- 40:50so often, and only once it had been long enough
- 40:53that you thought it had stopped for good. One guy
- 40:55on the fourth floor said he'd heard a full run
- 40:58from one end of the third floor hallway to the other,
- 41:00clear enough that he expected a guard to come charging
- 41:03up the stairwell. Nobody had appeared. He slid his wrist
- 41:06and got transferred out on medical leave the next day,
- 41:09so he took him serious. All that was enough to
- 41:12get Kellen to start doing some research on the outside.
- 41:15Came to us in the seven month of my sentence,
- 41:17with a pale face beside us at the bars well
- 41:20asked what's the word?
- 41:23Speaker 4: Kellen, seemed Graham.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Lot a bullshit out there, But this place is mentioned
- 41:28a lot. It's been closed before, But I keep getting
- 41:31stonewalled when I ask for historical documents. The thing is,
- 41:34I don't think the prison itself is the problem.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Get this pulled out a notepad for reference.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Two Canadian priests, father father Norbert Provencher, and Severe Doomlin,
- 41:45visited Pembina in eighteen eighteen before was it even official township.
- 41:50It was back then when the Hudson's Bay Company was
- 41:52big around these parts. That's how long ago it was.
- 41:55Pembin was the biggest town in North Dakota then, so
- 41:57the trading post was full. So the pre chose to
- 42:00sleep outside by by where the Pimbina River meets the
- 42:03Red River. The folkto has it that the vision of
- 42:06a rotting woman came in the night and stole Provincier's life.
- 42:10The two men bartered with her to split the remaining
- 42:12life between them. Concerning both, I live only thirty five
- 42:15more years instead of the seventy Severe had left. Severe
- 42:20got an extra month in twenty days as a gift
- 42:22from his friend for a sacrifice.
- 42:23Speaker 2: He paused, as if we might guess the obvious outcome.
- 42:27Speaker 1: They both died thirty five years later.
- 42:29Speaker 2: A knew Pimbina Prison had a horrible problem, but that
- 42:31didn't mean I had to believe everything.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Let me guess a month and twenty days apart.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Kellen nodded. Conte snorted, it's true, dude. Kellen insisted, the
- 42:43dates of death are right there on Wikipedia.
- 42:45Speaker 1: But get this. Thirty five years later, after eighteen eighteen,
- 42:48made their death year eighteen fifty three, the year this
- 42:50prison was built at the place they camped that night
- 42:53by the meetings of the Rivers.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I didn't know what it meant, but I was beginning
- 42:56to feel very uneasy. It's right here, isn't it. It
- 43:00was dead serious.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I think there's some shit here, ancient shit. I asked
- 43:05a guy I know. He's got Chippewarella dives over at
- 43:08Turtle Mountain. They know the history of the Red River
- 43:10better than anyone else. He said. His uncle told him
- 43:13never to sleep at the meeting of the Red River
- 43:14and the Pembina River. He said, something lives here.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Under the ground.
- 43:19Speaker 1: It awakens with the changing of the seasons.
- 43:21Speaker 2: That's cool. That's pretty sick. I know we bring it
- 43:25up constantly, but final prayer. Yeah, some great thing underground.
- 43:29But it's like it's physically rising through the levels of
- 43:31the prison people. Yeah, that's pretty cool. We were silent
- 43:35for a beat after that. It was folk tale nonsense,
- 43:38but it was as good as a theory as any.
- 43:41Whatever it was, it was going to come back, and
- 43:43it wasn't friendly. We'll talk to Kellen for another few minutes.
- 43:47Dante was silent after he was gone. I asked him,
- 43:51what's wrong? He said on one of the now unused
- 43:53bunks and told.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Me I got another five years in here. I got
- 43:57no money for a lawyer. Your sentence will be a
- 44:00fort reaches us and we'll be here alone, will it.
- 44:04There's no way to be sure, and we'll be back
- 44:06at two months for the fourth floor, and then three
- 44:09months after that for us. I could get out a
- 44:11week before or a day too late. Doesn't seem to
- 44:15be exact. Just looked at the floor. What I mean
- 44:18is I do hope you get out here before it comes.
- 44:22Speaker 5: Oh.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I wasn't sure what else to say after that, so
- 44:25I just said in my corner like I always did.
- 44:27It wasn't too much after that that we heard GCG
- 44:30was going under mad rush of transfers. It pissed off
- 44:33the state and lost the company a vital contract for
- 44:35a second location. Investors had pulled out or something. The
- 44:39number of guards was cut and slashed. Kellen took a
- 44:41pay hit to stay on as the only guy left
- 44:43on the day shift.
- 44:45Speaker 1: There's only two prisoners left on the fourth floor, called.
- 44:48Speaker 2: The twenty of us remaining as the general week. We
- 44:50expected it to happen approached. I feel like it's just
- 44:53stayed late just to see what the hell is going
- 44:54to go on down here. But the former guards I
- 44:58ask about it all terrified as hell, refused to talk.
- 45:01Something got violent just because I asked, it's cool, you
- 45:05got a kid at home, don't be here for it.
- 45:08Twenty of us left on the fifth floor, set in
- 45:10ourselves ones night fell, rained and listening. Monday night, nothing happened.
- 45:16Two guys down below occasionally shouted up to us, and
- 45:19everything was clear. Tuesday night, nothing happened. Strain was growing, though,
- 45:24and we could sometimes hear them breathing rapidly down there.
- 45:28Could only imagine the adrenaline rushing through them every minute.
- 45:31Until dawn on Wednesday night, nothing happened. Yet something had
- 45:37changed in the air. Prison was much quieter now. The
- 45:41two thousand men had become twenty two, and I thought
- 45:44I could feel a subtle sort of heartbeat in the air,
- 45:47hounding against reality and like it was a thin sheet
- 45:50of paper. It's just your imagination. And of us were
- 45:53willing to speak louder than that. Thursday night, that Harvey
- 45:57became a feeling of footsteps approaching distance. Guys a little
- 46:02shouted from his cell. You good down there, still here,
- 46:06one responded from down below, but I can feel it.
- 46:10It's at the doors.
- 46:11Speaker 4: It's knocking.
- 46:13Speaker 1: What the hell that's supposed to mean?
- 46:15Speaker 2: Man below did not respond. Friday night, that was the
- 46:19night it would happen all day. The two guys on
- 46:22fourth pulled and clanged on their bars, begging to be
- 46:25led out. Helen was torn. After two hours of listening
- 46:29to that plating, he came up with an idea. Transferred
- 46:31both of them up to our floor. If nobody's on four,
- 46:34then we'll be safe. Right out loud, we agreed, but
- 46:39we were kidding ourselves. When the night guard showed up,
- 46:41he freaked took the two men back down, said out
- 46:45loud what we were all thinking.
- 46:46Speaker 1: If nobody's on four, then we'll just come right to five.
- 46:50It'll just come right to five and get us all
- 46:52What the hell was killing thinking?
- 46:54Speaker 2: We like out there's so like assured this thing is
- 46:57gonna happen. The Guard's like, we got to feed them
- 46:59to it, need to gotta go down there. We had
- 47:03to listen to hours of sobbing that evening. It was
- 47:06the hardest trial of my life. I wanted to call
- 47:09out to the night guard. I wanted to ask him
- 47:11to get those men out of there, but if I did,
- 47:14I knew whatever was coming find all of us instead.
- 47:17The moment had happened with like a cold hand on
- 47:20my shoulder. What's going on down there, Dante shouted. The
- 47:25man was not sobbing called back.
- 47:28Speaker 1: It's changing, Will demanded, what's happening? Tell us redd?
- 47:36Speaker 4: What's read?
- 47:37Speaker 2: Will yelled insistently, God damn it. What's red stared down
- 47:40the hallway at the night guard stood, listening with fear.
- 47:44Screaming began a few seconds later, this time only one
- 47:48floor above. We could clearly hear their every word. The
- 47:51sobbing prisoner shrieked. The man who'd been communicating with us
- 47:56began incoherently raging with fear against his bar. Then strangely
- 48:01he stopped. The twenty of us clung to our bars
- 48:04and able to help and able to flee. Many of
- 48:07us cried, but we were otherwise silent, or to yell
- 48:11would be to drown out the last words of the
- 48:13men below. But they were eerily quiet. For nearly two hours,
- 48:18we waited and strained silence, as random footsteps traversed the
- 48:21fourth floor every so often what was happening For the
- 48:25first time victims of whatever was going on down below
- 48:28and chosen to be quiet instead of yelling for help?
- 48:30How would that make things different? Long last, the sobbing
- 48:33man broke the silence coming your way, it'll see you
- 48:39hit your bars. Sound of clinging echoed up the stairwell.
- 48:43Sobbing man said with terrors. We were no longer silent.
- 48:49We echoed that sentiment loudly and repeatedly to the guard
- 48:52do something. Just stood there, literally quaking in his boots.
- 48:57Will screamed at him.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Snap out of it. The other ards the prisoner's gone away.
- 49:01You can't too.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Whatever it is, it won't follow you if you let
- 49:04him out and leave, I shouted, They're gonna die down there.
- 49:08Dante threw his shoe and the impact finally snapped a
- 49:11man out of his tair guard ran to the stairwell
- 49:13and descended. The first thing we heard him say was
- 49:16it taken back Mary, Father Christ sobbing man again, over here,
- 49:21for God's sakes, let us out. The other prisoner wasn't
- 49:24talking for some reason, but hears gasping terror. But that
- 49:27too went quiet. Then we heard a buzzer, and all
- 49:30the gates on floor slammed loudly open. Sounds of panting,
- 49:34running and someone dragging something followed. The prison went silent.
- 49:38Just like that, we were alone again. The formerly crowded
- 49:42prison now felt terrifyingly large and empty, with only twenty
- 49:45of us and no guards. That night, the unmistakable sound
- 49:49of footsteps echoed from down below. I counted time as
- 49:53best I could. Forty minutes someone took three steps out
- 49:56of a cell and into the hallway. Now we're in
- 49:59six minutes someone ran ten steps along the hallway and
- 50:02stopped abruptly. Twenty eight minutes, footsteps approached the stairwell, but
- 50:06then turned into a cell and went silent. The thing was,
- 50:10whoever it was, sounded barefoot starting and stopping. Locations did
- 50:14not match where they ended. It was often nowhere near
- 50:17where they began again later. That's pretty all the little
- 50:21like clues would get to this. Things terrifying that we
- 50:23don't see it, but we hear people talking about it.
- 50:25But I also love that, like, whatever happens is these
- 50:28people they're moving somewhere down there, but it's almost like
- 50:31they're floating in between locations or somewhere They're very quiet,
- 50:35then they get loud and stuff. By the time dawn came,
- 50:38we were scared into motionless, terrified silence, and it took
- 50:41Kellen's arrival for us to begin stirring again. With GCG
- 50:44and bankruptcy court. We no longer had a night guard
- 50:47at all. If it came for us, there would be
- 50:50nobody to let us out of our cells. Like everyone else,
- 50:52we hardly talked, We hardly ate. Each passing day was
- 50:56a grain of sand falling through an hourglass marking our execution.
- 51:00Our fellows began confessing to crimes they hadn't even committed,
- 51:03just to get transferred to supermax out of state. The
- 51:06only option left well that suicide attempts. One by one,
- 51:12Kellen escorted or dragged guys out of our floor twenty
- 51:15He became fifteen and ten. Then it was just me
- 51:18and Dante, with Will still in the cell to our left,
- 51:21three of us and Kellen, four men waiting for doom.
- 51:25We sat playing card games and the week's leading up
- 51:28to it, it would be one full year for me
- 51:30in that place, but I could swear I'd spend a
- 51:32lifetime in that cell. I couldn't think, couldn't remember life before,
- 51:37couldn't imagine surviving after. Every day I prayed for a
- 51:41transfer to come in. But North Dakota had gotten sick
- 51:44of our shit. The judges had stopped hearing cases from
- 51:47him being a prison. They didn't know there were only
- 51:49three of us left. Nobody knew. Contacted the media, We
- 51:54phoned the governor's office. We made a ruckus that was
- 51:57worse than nobody knowing. Turned out nobody cared. Two. There
- 52:03was nobody higher up at the GCG following the situation,
- 52:06and Kellen couldn't get anybody on the phone. Payroll, meaning
- 52:10just his paycheck was being handled by a third party
- 52:13disbursement company that couldn't answer questions about ongoing proceedings. The
- 52:18week approached. On Monday night, nothing happened. We were like
- 52:22statues in ourselves alone, waiting for a sign of the
- 52:25executioner's approach. When dawn came, we sighed and began moving again.
- 52:31Dante asked you get out on Friday. I nodded, things
- 52:36went like before to be released the day of As
- 52:39long as I left before sundown, be all right. Tuesday night,
- 52:43nothing happened. Two for two one more, one more day
- 52:48sat through the darkness until no The feeling of the
- 52:53prison had changed around us. A subtle heartbeat seemed to
- 52:56pulse against our faces and ears and eyes that had
- 52:59come a day earlier in the week than the last time.
- 53:02That morning, Will patted my arms, who both leaned out
- 53:05the bars. Sorry, man, don Jay just shook his head angrily.
- 53:09I wasn't going to get out in time. On Wednesday night,
- 53:13the heartbeat became the sound of footsteps approaching from some
- 53:16unfathomable distance. I think I stood at the bars of
- 53:19ourselves that entire day, fingers wrapped around metal with force
- 53:23to match the tension in the air and in our minds.
- 53:25This couldn't happen. This wouldn't happen. My lawyer would walk
- 53:29in and tell me he'd got in the judge's unfair
- 53:31addition of an extra day removed one day, one damn day.
- 53:37Even if I'd spend the whole year in this prison,
- 53:39one day still met life or death. Let me out,
- 53:42Let me the hell out, for God's sake. But nobody cared.
- 53:46Nobody would listen. I'd like to tell you that Helen
- 53:50saved late that night. I'd like to tell you that
- 53:53when the entire floor began to glow red always the cells,
- 53:57the stone itself, whatever on godly abomination in the earth,
- 54:01began to wake upon the changing of the season, as
- 54:04distant footsteps became a traveler at the door of our minds.
- 54:08I'd like to tell you that Kellen was there, hit
- 54:11the button, opened the gates, and let us all out.
- 54:14I'd like to tell you that I didn't see anything
- 54:17that I'm not permanently a broken man. I didn't claw
- 54:21the walls of my cell so that approached slowly, move
- 54:24in a few steps every twenty to seventy minutes. I'd
- 54:27like to tell you that all three of us were
- 54:29able to run away, to escape that horror upon reality.
- 54:33That's rotting hands and blind eyes radiating crimson light as
- 54:37it searched.
- 54:38Speaker 4: For us at random.
- 54:39Speaker 2: But I can't give you a satisfying end to this story.
- 54:43The disbursement company fired Kellen to change the locks on
- 54:45the property. Bored into their paperwork. All the prisoners had
- 54:49been moved, and they thought he'd been getting paid for
- 54:52guarding an empty prison. They left us in there for
- 54:55eleven days before the air was found. Spent eleven nights
- 55:00that thing for eleven days, we starved. For eleven nights,
- 55:05we sat absolutely still, not daring to move or breathe,
- 55:09or even look left or right. Knew where we were
- 55:13generally so right outside ourselves for hours, sometimes walked right
- 55:18through the bars and grasped at the beds around us,
- 55:21daring us to make even the slightest motion. When you've
- 55:25spent six hours staring into the blind crimson eyes of
- 55:28a rotting demon, unable to blink your eyes for fear
- 55:31that it will hear the air your lashes move, When
- 55:35you've seen what I've seen the world it's walked, reflected
- 55:39and hellish red, you'll understand no one cares. I'd like
- 55:44to tell you that Kellen actually existed. I'd like to
- 55:47tell you we had a friend among the guards, that
- 55:49it wasn't all bad. I'd like to tell you I
- 55:52wasn't traumatized by the hell I went through. Being left
- 55:54to rot and left to die is nothing more than
- 55:57a number on some corporation's books. But no one cares.
- 56:01Speaker 3: End of story.
- 56:03Speaker 2: That was fine. I like that one.
- 56:04Speaker 1: That was a good one.
- 56:05Speaker 2: That's a really cool idea that there's a there's like
- 56:07a curse prison, that this thing rises up through I
- 56:10also like to mention of the end of Kelton's not real.
- 56:12That's kind of just like, oh, this is how we
- 56:14found out our information, but that's not No one actually
- 56:17cared about us. There was no one there to help
- 56:18us out in the midst of this.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it was uh really, I mean like the build
- 56:23up was really really nice. Yeah, really fucking creepy.
- 56:27Speaker 2: And it's like it's like prowling around this thing, slowly
- 56:30moving looking for people, like it's come to collect its
- 56:33due of anyone who camps by the river, and the
- 56:35prisoners counts people that are camping, but it's slow and
- 56:38it takes its time to move and float around and
- 56:41stuff like that. I think that's really cool. Yeah.
- 56:43Speaker 1: I think that like a really great payoff, great build
- 56:46up to the same that I felt whenever we read
- 56:49a psychosis and stuff kind of like a weird conspiracy thing.
- 56:52Has there ever been like the GDC in this, you
- 56:54know how like in government documents people say there's like, oh,
- 56:58there's aliens and stuff. Has there ever been anything with
- 57:00like paranormal stuff in official documents?
- 57:04Speaker 2: Hazard? Noah, Oh, I didn't know that. Well, do you mean,
- 57:09what do you mean about paranormal stuff like investigation into
- 57:11the paranormal. Yes, confirmed, like ghosts exists, no, right, right, right,
- 57:16But there's stuff like like if you like got a
- 57:18bunch of the old CIA files, there was a ton
- 57:20of stuff background, like the sixties and seventies where they
- 57:23did experiments to try to understand if there was something
- 57:25to like telepathy. So they got like a bunch of
- 57:29professional telepathics and like have them conduct a bunch of experiments.
- 57:33They did a bunch of experiments with the hallucinogenics to
- 57:35see if people were able to like astrally project and
- 57:39stuff like that. So there was one called Operation Sunbeam,
- 57:43I believe it was where they gave people like LSD
- 57:46and stuff like that, and they called it controlling where
- 57:50they would try to pilot where they were projecting themselves
- 57:52to is the MOVI.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Is that what that movie the Menu Steric Ghosts was
- 57:55based about.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Not actually projecting like that, but it's a similar thing
- 58:01of Like that was during World War Two, So that
- 58:03was oss that was like pre experiments. Oh okay, but
- 58:06same idea. But there's some crazy stories from operations, some
- 58:10being where like people reported that they found the arc
- 58:12at the Covenant in a cave in the Middle East
- 58:15and people who reported, what.
- 58:16Speaker 1: About the fucking Middle East giants or whatever? What the
- 58:19fuck was that about?
- 58:19Speaker 2: Remember that happened? Yeah, the Afghanistan giants, yep giants and kandor.
- 58:23Speaker 3: I think it was.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Do people say, is that like is that a meme
- 58:26or is that like a it comes from?
- 58:28Speaker 2: So there's you know, the stories of biblical giants and
- 58:31stuff like that, which is my you know, if you
- 58:33watch I make it to I've made a bunch of
- 58:35videos and like references to biblical giants and stuff like that.
- 58:38I think they're really interesting topic. But the rumor is
- 58:42that graves and like sides of them exist in the
- 58:45Middle East that have been covered up by like governments,
- 58:48and there's been a bunch of political interests to try
- 58:50to keep information of them secret, and that there's passageways
- 58:53in the mountains and like Iraq and Afghanistan leads down
- 58:56to places where they could still exist. So the story
- 58:58is in twenty twelve, I believe if there was a
- 59:00group of rangers who got into combat with something and
- 59:04a bunch of them were killed, and it's supposedly a
- 59:06cover up that they were searching in caves for insurgents
- 59:09and ran into a giant that killed several of them
- 59:13until eventually the area was like blown to bits and
- 59:16then the whole thing kept hush hush. But the story
- 59:19is that a group of army rangers ran into a
- 59:21giant in Afghanistan. Interesting, there's a I mean that's not
- 59:25official document. It's more of like a fun conspiracy theory thing,
- 59:27but there are official documents with the CI and like
- 59:29mk Ultra for example, most of m kulture was if
- 59:32you could like change someone's mind and like make them
- 59:35into the perfect soldier through psychotropics and like breaking them
- 59:38down with drugs and stuff like that. And there's a
- 59:40bunch of stuff done there to see if like you
- 59:42could basically make people be telepathic. Part of MKA culture
- 59:46was giving LSD to dolphins to see if they could
- 59:48learn to communicate with humans. Off of that, for the dolphins, yeah, yeah,
- 59:54they actually started speaking in a new like cadence that know,
- 59:57other dolphins would amongst themselves. So it seems they did
- 1:00:00create their own like communication with each other. Yeah, we
- 1:00:08gotta believe that, all right. So one final story tonight, Yeah,
- 1:00:14we're reading. My students submitted the most disturbing living history
- 1:00:17project I've ever seen, and this is posted by Gretelcat.
- 1:00:20We haven't read anything from gretel Cat before. It looks
- 1:00:22like they only have two stories ever posted no Sleep,
- 1:00:24and it was like eight to nine years ago. But
- 1:00:26this story has twenty four thousand up votes.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, a bunch of people were super into this,
- 1:00:31so it seems they had a couple of bangers and
- 1:00:33it just dropped off that. So we'll leave the LinkedIn
- 1:00:37description gretel Cat. If you somehow watch this and you
- 1:00:39want to make more stories, here's your audience. Keep writing,
- 1:00:43keep rutting, but for now, into their story. One of
- 1:00:46my least favorite parts about being obviously everyone will be
- 1:00:50linked in the script. If you want to support the artists,
- 1:00:52please do they deserve it. One of my least favorite
- 1:00:55parts about being a middle school history teacher is the
- 1:00:57bullshit living history assignments we give. It the end of
- 1:01:00every school year, kids are supposed to sit with their grandparents, videotape,
- 1:01:04voice record, or transcribe their oldest memories for posterity and
- 1:01:08for an easy way to bring up their GPA. I've
- 1:01:11been doing this for seventeen years and when I collected
- 1:01:14the projects this time around, I assumed they would be
- 1:01:17as dull, if not duller, than usual. This had not
- 1:01:20been a particularly bright class, so I went home, boreed
- 1:01:24myself a class of wine, and prepared for a long
- 1:01:26night of I only owned two pairs of pants when
- 1:01:29I was your age, and my brother got beat with
- 1:01:32a newspaper for hitting a baseball into an aghbor's yard.
- 1:01:35And of course these projects were peppered with innocent old
- 1:01:38person comments that were so horribly sexist and racist you
- 1:01:42just had to laugh. Now, I had a girl in
- 1:01:44my class whom I will call Olivia. She was pudgy, quiet,
- 1:01:48and proved herself a consistent beast student I expected from
- 1:01:52and just dog in this kid. I expected her project
- 1:01:59to be as unremardable as her. Would you consider that
- 1:02:02on it?
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: We're getting at a little blow of the bell?
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: Is that?
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: How does Why did both of you turn and look
- 1:02:13at the look at what you? You looked up there?
- 1:02:18And the nick spun around in his chair really quick.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't look up there. I was I was
- 1:02:22just looking at the light off the it's from the deal.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: I was just looking at that. Also, how does that look?
- 1:02:28Did you turn your screen brightness up.
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: On this one.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Okay, some of them, it keeps, it keeps the longing
- 1:02:36stick to keep tapping out.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: I just look over look like the sun. I expected
- 1:02:44her project to be as unremarkable as her, and perhaps
- 1:02:47that's why I was so profoundly disturbed. But when I
- 1:02:49witnessed that night, Olivia had submitted two discs for some reason.
- 1:02:53So I began with the one marked interview. My screen
- 1:02:56hiccup twice before grainy image of a living room came
- 1:02:59into view. The place was a hoarder's hell. Olivia was
- 1:03:03curled up in an armchair, clutching a notebook and looking
- 1:03:06like a scared animal. Cross from her, said a man
- 1:03:09with a somber countenance, smoking a cigarette and staring at
- 1:03:11her expectantly. Go ahead, woman's voice whispered from behind the camera.
- 1:03:17Olivia's owlish eyes flashed towards the screen back to the man.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I am here with my great uncle Stephen.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: She began, almost inaudibly.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: He's going to tell us about his oldest memories from
- 1:03:28being in the army.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Great uncle Stephen looked like he'd rather be in the
- 1:03:33damn trench at the moment, but he waited patiently for
- 1:03:36the questions to begin. Not surprisingly, Olivia read verbatim from
- 1:03:40the suggested question she'd I had handed out to the students.
- 1:03:43He answered her curtly. Once or twice I heard her
- 1:03:46mother whisper speak up Olivia from behind the camera. Typical
- 1:03:50boring shit. So I was intrigued when Olivia sat down.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: The notebook and asked, did you like being in the army?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: That was totally off script. Great Uncle Stephen admitted a
- 1:04:00chain smoker's wheeze.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Nope, I got to get it out of my town. Though,
- 1:04:07where did you go Balkans? Uh?
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I doubt she knew what the Balkans were, and my
- 1:04:14suspicion was confirmed when she.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Asked, was Balkis very different from here? Yes?
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Cleared her throat from behind the camera, perhaps encouraging Great
- 1:04:23Uncle Stephen to be a little more forthcoming. But Olivia
- 1:04:27seemed genuinely interested.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: Uncle Stephen, what is your very worst memory from the army?
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: I'm starting to see what she's a beast student, just
- 1:04:38chowing down double stuff, oreos why she's asked these questions.
- 1:04:41She's taking off tops and putting them together. Quadruple stuff,
- 1:04:44Uncle Stephen, dipping them in water, God.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Water her favorite cookie, like it's a hot dog contest.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Exactly, that's not the same.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: The all man crushed his cigarette in the ash tree
- 1:04:59and slowly lifted himself out of his chair. I'll be back,
- 1:05:04Amy cut off. Then the screen flashed back on. Everything
- 1:05:08was the same except great Uncle Stephen had several pieces
- 1:05:10of paper and plastic sleeves laid it off to all
- 1:05:13the crap sitting on his coffee table. One he held
- 1:05:16in his hand. I was a kid when I was enlisted,
- 1:05:19he said, looking at Olivia, your brother's age. Olivia nodded.
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: I never saw combat. Both of my diployments were to
- 1:05:28cities in eastern Europe that had been destroyed by some wars,
- 1:05:31and everything was a mess. And I feel like a
- 1:05:33janitors for fox It.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Yeah right, Uncle Stephen's sighed and looked at his paper.
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: My unit was a scientist school that had been obliterated
- 1:05:42by all the violence, broken windows caved in rooms, and
- 1:05:46for some reason, the part that got me was the
- 1:05:50most was the school had been like this for years
- 1:05:52before we got there. No one had lifted a finger
- 1:05:55to fix it. They saw kids walk by it on
- 1:05:57the way to go beg for money for whatever.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: Shit they did.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Cameron dipped towards the floor. I heard Mom was propartially
- 1:06:05a great Uncle Stephen. I couldn't make out what she
- 1:06:08was saying, but it wasn't hard to imagine you why
- 1:06:11have a goddamn story or that heard him parking response?
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Did you better let me tell how I wanted? Mom?
- 1:06:18Please stop interrupting. Are you presenting this in front of
- 1:06:21the class? No? Mom, we're just heading into the teacher.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: I'm sure he's heard worship before.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Great Uncle Steven contributed helpfully. It wasn't a he as
- 1:06:31a matter of fact, but other than that statement was accurate.
- 1:06:34Camera was lifted and after a couple of blurry focus adjustments,
- 1:06:38the shot was the same as before.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: I'm talking too much anyway.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: I lifted the piece of paper in his hand close
- 1:06:44to his face.
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: In the basement, I found this letter. I didn't know
- 1:06:49what it said, but I had a buddy in my
- 1:06:51translated so I'm gonna read it now. I'll tell you
- 1:06:55what I saw in the basement.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Jill ran down my spine. Mom zoomed in too. Great
- 1:07:01Uncle Stephen in his letter. His palsied hands trembled as
- 1:07:05he held up the paper. This is what he read here, sir,
- 1:07:10and never loved my country. So many of these skirmishes
- 1:07:13are born from patriotism, a power struggle for the shards
- 1:07:17of a once great empire. And I do not care
- 1:07:20what name my home has on a map. It's fighting
- 1:07:23as senseless. I stay as far away from it as
- 1:07:25I can. It was not these attacks and disorganized violence
- 1:07:29but took the lives of my wife and child. It
- 1:07:31was illness, mercifully and having quickly for the baby, Nacha
- 1:07:36suffered for longer, washed in horror, knowing I could do
- 1:07:40nothing for them. My only solace is said I was
- 1:07:43there for them every step of the way. Stopped going
- 1:07:46to work one day, and no one came after me.
- 1:07:49I doubt they noticed I was gone. Since the school
- 1:07:53was simply across a field visible from my window. It
- 1:07:56would have been easy to go for a few hours
- 1:07:58each day, come home quickly to care for them. What
- 1:08:02was the point? All I did was clean floors. I
- 1:08:05was as useless as the world as I was to
- 1:08:07my family. I tried to take knowledge to the hospital,
- 1:08:10but the journey was too long and taxing. I brought
- 1:08:13her home and she died that night. After Nadge and
- 1:08:16the baby were gone. Well, I don't remember much. I
- 1:08:20didn't leave my hovel, barely ate and slept, thought many
- 1:08:24times of taking my own life empty. Though it was
- 1:08:27felt paralyzed by my own helplessness. The one thing that
- 1:08:31kept me saying was my radio. Never turned it off once,
- 1:08:35even though I didn't listen to the words being said back.
- 1:08:38The channel I got the clearest was in English, I think,
- 1:08:41which I don't speak a lick of. But the voices,
- 1:08:44the music, the true knowledge that life existed beyond this
- 1:08:47violent city sustained me. I have no idea how long
- 1:08:51passed before I saw the light of day again. It
- 1:08:54was dizzy from hunger. Finding food was my priority. My
- 1:08:58radio came with me, of course, as I first hold
- 1:09:02myself up. It's gone everywhere with me. It talks to
- 1:09:06me as I sleep and as I wake. I don't
- 1:09:08know what it's saying, but now I would die without it.
- 1:09:12Once I had some water and food, it occurred to
- 1:09:14me that the only thing left to do was to
- 1:09:15go back to work, so I did. The following morning,
- 1:09:19I simply returned to the school where I was a janitor,
- 1:09:22got back to work. Nobody made a big deal out
- 1:09:25of it. Like I said, Naja had been sick a
- 1:09:28long time, and those who worked at the school knew it.
- 1:09:31I appreciate that no one had pestered me to come
- 1:09:34back to work during the hardest days of my life.
- 1:09:37The teacher has never said much to me, but we
- 1:09:39smiled at each other in the halls, and that mutual
- 1:09:41respect was perhaps the reason I decided to come back.
- 1:09:43In all, place had gone to the dogs without me,
- 1:09:46so I simply grabbed my broom and rags from my
- 1:09:49closet and set to cleaning. Everyone is grateful to have
- 1:09:52me back, I know. And the best part is that
- 1:09:55nobody minds my radio. I bring it with me everywhere,
- 1:10:00volume low enough not to disrupt the students. No one
- 1:10:04has ever complained. In fact, I suspect they like it.
- 1:10:08Schoolhouse is not very big but does require a lot
- 1:10:10of maintenance. Floors are always sticky and stained, so I
- 1:10:14spend most of my time mopping kids make messes. I
- 1:10:18guess that's why I'm still in business. Sometimes I have
- 1:10:21to move things around to make sure I get every
- 1:10:22spot on the floor beautiful and clean, but I take
- 1:10:25pride in that, and the repairs school always needs tune
- 1:10:29ups here and there. I'm happy to help. Some days
- 1:10:32I'm reconstructing a desks that broke because I whistle along
- 1:10:35with the radio. Other times I handle more serious structural issues.
- 1:10:40Days when I have work like this, I feel truly instrumental,
- 1:10:43like a cog and a larger machine. How could the
- 1:10:46school survive without me? It took me a long time,
- 1:10:50but I once again film that I have purpose. There
- 1:10:53is a larder behind the school and is full of
- 1:10:56preserved food. Really, with payment, I'm allowed to take as
- 1:10:59much food as I I need. That arrangement's fine. What
- 1:11:03would I do with money anyway? I used to bring
- 1:11:05the food back to my home, one field away from
- 1:11:08the school. When I started sleeping in the basement. No
- 1:11:11one seemed to notice. School is special to me, and
- 1:11:14I cannot leave it unguarded when I'm besieged with memories
- 1:11:18my wife and baby. Turning to volume on the radio
- 1:11:21to drown out such thoughts works for me every time.
- 1:11:26Up this morning, because this morning I woke up in
- 1:11:31dead silence, I frantically examined the radio to see what
- 1:11:34had happened. I honestly cannot tell how many days in
- 1:11:37a row i've been using it did simply live out
- 1:11:40its life and die naturally. Spent the entire day trying
- 1:11:44to fix it. Most of this time I've been crying.
- 1:11:47I'm losing my mind without it. I've given myself until sundown.
- 1:11:52If I cannot fix it by then, I'm going to
- 1:11:54take my life. I'm writing this because the sunlight starting
- 1:11:57to die, and I know what my fate shall be.
- 1:12:00Thought about taking one last walk to the halls of
- 1:12:02my school, saying goodbye to the students and teachers. I
- 1:12:06know I will be missed. I cannot bring myself to
- 1:12:09leave this room. I cannot go anywhere knowing that my
- 1:12:12radio is dead. In here, there are no more tears
- 1:12:15in me. It feels now like I can't catch my breath.
- 1:12:19I vomited what little food I had in my stomach.
- 1:12:22I'm growing dizzy again, like I did after Nauja died.
- 1:12:26I am not long for this world. But before I
- 1:12:28take my life, I have closed the door to this
- 1:12:31room and stuck a chair beneath the handle. See the
- 1:12:34only room in the basement and has a small casement
- 1:12:36that looks in just enough light for me to see
- 1:12:38what I am doing. Anyone's kind enough to come looking
- 1:12:41for me. I should not be met with this gruesome sight.
- 1:12:45Perhaps they we'll see the door is blocked. Smell my
- 1:12:47rotting body. Simply forget I ever existed. But I've placed
- 1:12:52my radio and this note outside the door. Kind sir,
- 1:12:56if you are reading this, I have one humble request,
- 1:13:00please fix it. Save my radio. Did not deserve to
- 1:13:05dine and sleep, and I am ashamed. I cannot revive it.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I'm ready to join Nauda and little Ludmilla in heaven.
- 1:13:13I hope the school can find another janitor who loves
- 1:13:16and cares for it the way I do. The hours now,
- 1:13:20do not forget my radio, Stanislav. When Mom zoomed back out,
- 1:13:25Olivia had tears in her eyes.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Thank you for sharing, Uncle Stephen.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: Mom said, her voice choked.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: I think we have enough.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Wait, Olivia chirped.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: He said, there's more. What did you find?
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: Poor great Uncle Stephen could open his mouth. The image disappeared.
- 1:13:42A jaw dropped.
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: Was that it?
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: But what did great Uncle Stephen see? I promptly remembered
- 1:13:49that there was a second disc. This one was unmarked,
- 1:13:51but I hope to contain the rest of the interview.
- 1:13:55There was no video, only audio voice started up. It
- 1:13:59was Olivia.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Yes, I am miss Gary, I'm serre a boy, my mom,
- 1:14:03but she refused to record the rest of what my
- 1:14:05uncle was saying. But I asked him to continue and
- 1:14:07secret record the story as a voicemanb on my phone.
- 1:14:10I remember you said earlier this year that history was
- 1:14:12written by the people who win wars.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: He sucked in a breath and commenced crime.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: But everyone's history is important, even if they are said
- 1:14:20pathetic people, even if they never won a single thing
- 1:14:24in their life. I haven't slept the night since I
- 1:14:26finished this project, but you have to hear what my
- 1:14:29uncle has to say.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Her tears in my eyes too. Sincerity of her words
- 1:14:34was beautiful. It was also flattered that she had remembered
- 1:14:37some trite phrase I threw around because it was what
- 1:14:39my history teacher said to me before I got too
- 1:14:42sappy over it. The audio began again. Fine, came mom's
- 1:14:47frustrated voice.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: Twenty of the rest of the story. Fine, but this
- 1:14:49is not appropriate for our school project. Let me finish.
- 1:14:53It was too much for you help yourself to a
- 1:14:55snack in the kitchen. But Lilly wants to know what happened?
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Heard her mother mumbled something and walk away. Levia and
- 1:15:02her uncle were alone, imagined her, looking at him expectantly.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: So did you find the read you? Or did you
- 1:15:08get room? The in the school got blown up?
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: He rasped. When I heard it distinct of a lighter.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: That letter. I had a date on it?
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: What date?
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: It was?
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: Dated?
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: Two weeks before we started rebuilding the school. Didn't you
- 1:15:24say the school had been destroyed like two years ago?
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: It had been.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Ah, that's pretty cool. That's cool. Does I'll be honest,
- 1:15:34like the letter was cool and stuff. I'm like, where's
- 1:15:36this going? Like what's the what's that get around to?
- 1:15:38But that that's that's a fun reveal.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: There was silence as I felt goosebumps on my arms.
- 1:15:44The images that came to my mind were almost too
- 1:15:46overwhelming to express, but great Uncle Stephen put them into
- 1:15:50words effortlessly. Literally, he had spent his whole life thinking
- 1:15:54about it.
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: This man, this Stanislav went to went to a fand
- 1:15:59a live used to falling apart schoolhouse and cleaned up
- 1:16:02blood and rubbled like it was spilt drinks and dust.
- 1:16:05He smiled at dead bodies in the hallway and believed
- 1:16:08they were smiling back at him because they liked his radio.
- 1:16:12He moved around corpses so he could swooped the ground
- 1:16:15under them. The roof half collapsed, so when it rained,
- 1:16:18he must have gotten silking wet, but was so oblivious
- 1:16:22that he didn't even feel a thing.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: I could hear Olivia grind stintly.
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: I found the larder he was talking about.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: It was a pickle.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: There was the food that probably tastes like shit. Most
- 1:16:34of the stuff was moldy. Did did you see the
- 1:16:38dead body? Yes, hanging him from the ceiling, but still
- 1:16:44amazingly lifelike. He wasn't running away. This hadn't happened years ago.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: Did he look peaceful, yes, sort of desperation in your voice.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: Couldn't tell you. The smell was rank, and his face
- 1:16:59was blue and his eyes bulging like this.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Imagine him demonstrating the radio. Her great uncle Steven take
- 1:17:07a long track off his cigarette.
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: It was there, right and it was still on.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: Wow, that's good.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: Wow. All right. So in the midst of it, about
- 1:17:19midway through, that was kind of like where you know.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Beautifully written story, but what is the what's the catch? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:24it's like what I was kind of waiting for a reveal, you.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Wait for the shoe to fall. It's like, all right,
- 1:17:29I see it, well done and stuff. But then with
- 1:17:32the schools destroyed, he's clean up the revel and that
- 1:17:34last line radio was still on. It's like, then, what
- 1:17:37was the switch that made him not see through the delusion?
- 1:17:40Part of the delusion ended? And there's so many different.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Layers of stuff of a war torn person. I mean,
- 1:17:47like not now even the the top comment talking lost.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: His family to illness? Was that even true? Maybe who knows?
- 1:17:52I mean to take him?
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: He could have been the war that took him.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Devastating, But man, I will say today too fucking amazing story.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Wow, and I went really good.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: And I really really want to read another one of
- 1:18:03the other Gretel Cat story immediately because that was a
- 1:18:06punch of the fun.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: That one that the ending of that was sick. The
- 1:18:10radio was still on. Ah, that's so good. It's it's like,
- 1:18:13what what did his mind construct to where he was
- 1:18:18in a normal school but the radio quit working when
- 1:18:20in reality he was cleaning rubble and the radio was fine,
- 1:18:23Like what what was he seen? What did reality look like?
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Because it just lets the viewer just run with it
- 1:18:29of like what the fuck happened. It's one of those
- 1:18:31things too that the author probably has such a clear
- 1:18:33picture in their head, but they just didn't. They just
- 1:18:36know not to like totally give it all to you,
- 1:18:38you know, because that level of mystery, I mean, you're
- 1:18:40you're in the same boat as the teacher. Also was
- 1:18:42what a fun premise to is a setup of like, oh,
- 1:18:44we do these stupid living history assignments and it's just
- 1:18:48such a great setup.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: It's like, oh, this is dumb, but here we go
- 1:18:51to it again. Well, here's a weird one. I came
- 1:18:53across also to stories, even the stuff like the beginning
- 1:18:56where it says that his house looked like a hoarder
- 1:19:00and stuff everywhere. There was so much little context you
- 1:19:02didn't get till the end, you know, And that line
- 1:19:05she says where it's like you can tell Uncle Sam,
- 1:19:07which his name is Uncle Sam. Yeah, but where she
- 1:19:11says you can tell Uncle Sam had spent his life
- 1:19:13thinking about this question. You know, what did it? It's
- 1:19:16like I don't know. The radio was still on, Like
- 1:19:17that's haunted him.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: Decades since. Yeah, I think two stories that were awesome
- 1:19:23for this setting. I mean, I will say the first
- 1:19:25story got me pretty scared and stuff, and I think
- 1:19:28that just a fucking eerie fun time it was. I
- 1:19:31hope that it was as fun to watch as it
- 1:19:33was to be in here recording the shit, because it
- 1:19:35was pretty crazy. But guys, this is our story.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: I also want to addro quick to give Gretel Cat
- 1:19:40another shout out. Remember I said she has one other story.
- 1:19:43The title of the one other story is the Animals
- 1:19:45on My Farm Always killed the newborns.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: Oh that's fun.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so well, to check it out some time. Yeah, so,
- 1:19:52Gretel Kat, maybe.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: We can read it while you're in town.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: That'd be fun. Yeah. N fifty nine guar And then
- 1:19:57the other two stories is the bath one in the portraits,
- 1:19:59one r anonymous but classics. So hopefully you all enjoyed
- 1:20:02two ogs or original game and OG and then two
- 1:20:06really good stories off not It was.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: A really fun episode and honestly, it's been really fun
- 1:20:11recording in this house and stuff fucking spooky. We'll have
- 1:20:13to do another one of these again, but until the
- 1:20:15next time, guys, thank you so much for those who
- 1:20:17are listening on Apple Podcast and Spotify all that shit.

- 1:20:37Speaker 2: Would you so, now that we read good stories, would
- 1:20:40you say we're cool?
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: No, it's still cringe.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: The b
