- 0:28What is going on, everybody?
- 0:29Welcome to the Gladstone Media Roundtable.
- 0:32Lunch with the crew.
- 0:33Here we are.
- 0:34Yay.
- 0:34The two of us.
- 0:35Here we are.
- 0:36Did you have lunch yet?
- 0:38I have not.
- 0:40No, all I've had today is the protein bar.
- 0:43I am way behind on everything.
- 0:47I spent my morning in the
- 0:50doctor's waiting room,
- 0:53like we tend to do sometimes.
- 0:54My appointment was at nine forty.
- 0:58The nurse took me back to
- 0:59the room at ten forty.
- 1:03I had a very important work
- 1:04meeting at eleven that I
- 1:05was hoping to make.
- 1:07And at eleven is when the doctor came in.
- 1:10And at eleven oh three,
- 1:11I was out of there.
- 1:14Wow.
- 1:15So annoying.
- 1:16It is.
- 1:17annoying.
- 1:18They have a sign in the waiting room.
- 1:19It says, don't let us forget you.
- 1:21If you've been here more
- 1:21than thirty minutes,
- 1:22please come up to the desk
- 1:23and let us know.
- 1:24So at the thirty minute mark,
- 1:25I went up to the desk and I was like, hey,
- 1:27I'm here.
- 1:28And she's like, oh, oh,
- 1:30have you signed in yet?
- 1:31I'm like, yeah, no, I'm here.
- 1:33Like you have a sign that
- 1:34says come and tell you if
- 1:35it's been thirty minutes.
- 1:36I'm telling you it's been thirty minutes.
- 1:37She's like, oh, you're next.
- 1:38They'll be right out for you.
- 1:40And it was a whole nother
- 1:40thirty minutes before they
- 1:41actually took me back.
- 1:45But I got my fourth
- 1:47cortisone injection in my elbow,
- 1:49and it feels wonderful.
- 1:51So there's that.
- 1:54Do you get those, like, quarterly?
- 1:56Good grief.
- 1:57The last one I got was in April.
- 2:00Okay.
- 2:01And I think my whole, like,
- 2:03that flicking of the
- 2:06paintbrush sort of re-aggravated it.
- 2:08So he said after this he
- 2:10would consider surgery,
- 2:11and I'm not getting surgery
- 2:12for tennis elbow.
- 2:13That's just ridiculous.
- 2:16We'll see.
- 2:17Yeah,
- 2:17so Julie was getting cortisone in her
- 2:19knee every three months.
- 2:24But now that the surgery's coming up,
- 2:25she's not allowed to get it.
- 2:28Right.
- 2:29She has some really bad days right now.
- 2:31We're just trying to get
- 2:33through the next month
- 2:35before her surgery and then
- 2:36hopefully some permanent relief.
- 2:39Yeah, that would be nice.
- 2:42But I do have a fun story.
- 2:44It wasn't fun at the time,
- 2:46but looking back, you know,
- 2:47it's kind of fun now.
- 2:49But so I've been working on
- 2:50this project for three to four weeks.
- 2:53And last night was our smoke test,
- 2:56which means we wait till
- 2:58everybody goes home at the
- 2:59end of the night.
- 3:00We work late.
- 3:01We put it,
- 3:02we launch it into the production
- 3:04environment and see if anything breaks.
- 3:08Okay.
- 3:09So while this is going on,
- 3:12Julie put something in the
- 3:13garbage disposal and it clogs.
- 3:19So I'm like, okay.
- 3:20So I go over.
- 3:22I can't get it to budge.
- 3:25In fact,
- 3:26now it has flipped and everything
- 3:29is spinning in reverse.
- 3:31So when you turn it on,
- 3:32it sprays up through the
- 3:33drain instead of down.
- 3:39So our garbage disposal does
- 3:42not have a hand crank to
- 3:44like get it through.
- 3:46So now I have to get under
- 3:48the sink and take apart the
- 3:50pipes and the plumbing to get in there.
- 3:55Well,
- 3:55so much pressure was created in the
- 3:57pipe that when I pulled the first one off,
- 4:00I get a pot roast shower all over me.
- 4:09What is she putting down the sink?
- 4:10Everything?
- 4:11It was old pot roast that we
- 4:14had pot roasting carrots.
- 4:19And so just sprayed in like meat juice.
- 4:24I get it all apart.
- 4:26I get all the pieces out.
- 4:28I put it all back together, reset it.
- 4:32And it actually worked.
- 4:33And I actually felt like,
- 4:34even though it was covered in meat juice,
- 4:36I felt like a man.
- 4:39You know what I mean?
- 4:40Like juice.
- 4:41Right.
- 4:42Because I pulled all the plumbing out.
- 4:44I cleaned it all out and it,
- 4:46and I got it to work again.
- 4:47And like, that's a big accomplishment.
- 4:51I didn't grow up with those skills.
- 4:53Like I learned those through poverty.
- 4:55Like when Julie and I were
- 4:56struggling and we couldn't
- 4:57afford to have someone come
- 4:58in and I had to figure it out.
- 5:01Like that's kind of what it was,
- 5:03but took a shower, meat juice gone.
- 5:09Got some masculinity in me
- 5:10last night and all while
- 5:13I'm testing this stuff.
- 5:15So yeah.
- 5:16Love it.
- 5:17And then the test failed and
- 5:21we had to back out all the
- 5:24changes and we'll have to
- 5:25do it again next week.
- 5:28Oh no.
- 5:31That sounds fun.
- 5:32Is that a situation where
- 5:32like you try to break it on purpose or?
- 5:35So we spent three to four
- 5:37weeks trying to break it.
- 5:39Okay, they were ready to go.
- 5:40So it was supposed to be good to go.
- 5:44And it broke things that
- 5:46weren't even connected to this,
- 5:48this piece.
- 5:50Always happens that way.
- 5:53Yeah.
- 5:54So fun times,
- 5:55and it is the most boring
- 5:56thing ever because you'll
- 5:58be on with the vendor and they'll be like,
- 5:59okay,
- 6:00we're gonna turn on this piece of it.
- 6:03And then you wait for like,
- 6:04fifteen minutes as that happens.
- 6:06Okay, we're done.
- 6:07Now we're gonna turn on this piece.
- 6:09And then you have like to go
- 6:12in and get as much in as
- 6:13you can and try to see if it works.
- 6:15And then we had to roll it
- 6:18all back and then you have
- 6:18to stay on as it rolls all
- 6:20back and then run it and
- 6:22test it to see if now the
- 6:24stuff that was broke when
- 6:25you put it in there is now
- 6:27fixed again when you took it out.
- 6:28Right.
- 6:30Wow.
- 6:31Yeah.
- 6:33So fun times.
- 6:36and the whole time like
- 6:37julie's making dinner and
- 6:38I'm drooling and then the
- 6:40sink gets clogged and yeah
- 6:42all that stuff all in like
- 6:44two hours we've got some
- 6:49some folks in the chat hi
- 6:50guys yeah what's up kenneth
- 6:53lex craig cory yeah
- 6:59So there was an
- 7:00investigation done that we
- 7:02were told that CrossFit was
- 7:05going to be transparent with us.
- 7:06It was not released yesterday,
- 7:09but there was some
- 7:13information that was
- 7:14released yesterday in
- 7:15changes that CrossFit is
- 7:16making in response to the investigation.
- 7:21Yes.
- 7:22And so I...
- 7:28When CrossFit came out and
- 7:30said they were going to be
- 7:31fully transparent,
- 7:33I was watching John Woolley at the time,
- 7:35and he said,
- 7:35there's no way they can be transparent.
- 7:38There's no way they can release this.
- 7:39There are legal things, HR issues.
- 7:41You just cannot release that report.
- 7:45And he was right.
- 7:47There is no way because of
- 7:49the names and addresses and
- 7:51things that are in that report.
- 7:52It just can't be released open.
- 7:55But I guess what I am
- 7:56disappointed in is that
- 7:58there wasn't a summary of the findings.
- 8:03Yeah, why not?
- 8:05I guess we're just left to
- 8:07assume that if you look at
- 8:09the medical examiner's report,
- 8:12the cause of death was drowning,
- 8:14the reason was accidental,
- 8:16and that's all we get to know.
- 8:18There was no summary of this
- 8:20third-party investigation.
- 8:22I didn't expect them to say,
- 8:24here's our report,
- 8:25read it in its entirety.
- 8:28But I did expect, hey,
- 8:30these were the things that were found,
- 8:33and then what was released yesterday,
- 8:36and here is our reaction to that.
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:40I'm guessing that there's
- 8:41still probably some legal
- 8:43action that is either going
- 8:45to be taken or that has been taken.
- 8:48that probably makes it so
- 8:51it's in CrossFit's best
- 8:52interest not to discuss.
- 8:55Or it could even be they're
- 8:57not allowed to discuss.
- 9:01I think there's got to be a
- 9:02way that they can do a summary.
- 9:03Yeah.
- 9:05Like a very edited version
- 9:07of what is in that report
- 9:09to say these are the
- 9:10findings and this is what we're doing.
- 9:12I mean, you would think if it was like,
- 9:14hey, we weren't negligent, or hey, we
- 9:16hey, we weren't this or hey,
- 9:17we weren't that,
- 9:18I feel like they would have
- 9:20talked about it.
- 9:21But if they were found to be
- 9:27negligent or had some missteps,
- 9:29which I think we all can
- 9:31agree probably is the case,
- 9:33then I could see why they
- 9:35wouldn't be putting that out.
- 9:36Not that I agree with it,
- 9:37but what are you going to do?
- 9:40I guess I see your point to some degree,
- 9:42but yeah, I mean to come up,
- 9:44but to basically ignore the
- 9:46findings and just say, Hey,
- 9:48this is what we're doing rings.
- 9:51It brings hollow.
- 9:53I mean,
- 9:54it would have been nice if they
- 9:55gave an explanation as to
- 9:56why they weren't sharing the results.
- 9:59They could have done that.
- 10:00You know, they could have said, Hey,
- 10:01we're still in the midst of
- 10:02some things and you know, we can't,
- 10:06we can't, or we won't.
- 10:08share this that and the
- 10:09other but maybe someday we
- 10:10will and you know keep
- 10:11listening it's got us it's
- 10:13got everybody hanging on
- 10:16yeah uh I guess if you're
- 10:19in the crossfit space you
- 10:21have to be living under a
- 10:22rock not to have seen what
- 10:23was released uh we'll go
- 10:26over it real quick we're
- 10:27not going to go into grave
- 10:28detail as many other shows
- 10:30have already done that um
- 10:33and so I'll share what was
- 10:35released by crossfit real quick here
- 10:38Yeah, and I'll just say,
- 10:40if there are details in
- 10:41there that are important,
- 10:43they'll come out.
- 10:45There are too many people at
- 10:46CrossFit that don't keep their mouth shut,
- 10:48that it will, you know,
- 10:50Hiller or somebody will
- 10:51find out about it and tell us about it,
- 10:53I'm sure.
- 10:56so the top of it it just
- 10:57talks about that there was
- 10:59an investigation that many
- 11:01people were questioned and
- 11:02all this kind of stuff and
- 11:03then it says because of
- 11:04that this is what's
- 11:05happening and they're
- 11:07basically hiring a new
- 11:09position that is uh
- 11:11supplementing the crossfit
- 11:13sport leadership team and
- 11:14their responsibility is
- 11:14going to be safety and etc um
- 11:20From what I gather from
- 11:21watching other shows is
- 11:23that this may have already
- 11:24existed in a limited form,
- 11:26like a part-time or volunteer position.
- 11:29And now it will be a full-time position.
- 11:34And this position reports to
- 11:36Dave and Dawn.
- 11:38And the other aspect of this
- 11:39is that it is clear in this
- 11:42section that Dave is being
- 11:44retained as the head of sport.
- 11:49He's not going anywhere.
- 11:51Right.
- 11:51And I, we can talk offline,
- 11:53but I think I have some
- 11:54candidates for that role
- 11:55that I think I want to
- 11:57share with you to see if I'm right.
- 12:00Okay.
- 12:02I haven't, I haven't inkling.
- 12:05I think they should go
- 12:06outside of the normal
- 12:07CrossFit space and bring
- 12:08someone in from the outside
- 12:10that has experience in event planning.
- 12:12But that's just me.
- 12:15That would be,
- 12:17I think the best look is to
- 12:19bring someone from the outside,
- 12:20but I don't know.
- 12:23The fact that they've
- 12:24already started to build a
- 12:24slate of candidates.
- 12:26Oh God, sorry.
- 12:28I jumped out.
- 12:31No, I mean,
- 12:32then this is the next part I
- 12:34think is what I was talking about more.
- 12:35So this advisory board.
- 12:37And then they're going to be
- 12:38creating a CrossFit Games
- 12:40Safety Advisory Board.
- 12:42It will be made up of people
- 12:45with a diverse expertise,
- 12:48including emergency responders,
- 12:50former athletes,
- 12:53to ensure the comprehensive
- 12:54perspectives over CrossFit
- 12:57and start building a slate
- 12:58of candidates and plans to
- 12:59communicate more details
- 13:01about this appointed thing
- 13:03in the coming weeks, months.
- 13:06Yeah.
- 13:08Um, in addition to that,
- 13:11they're suspending open
- 13:12water swimming events.
- 13:13Um, if there will be a swimming event,
- 13:15it'll be a controlled environment, uh,
- 13:17such as a pool.
- 13:21Oh, I don't hate that for now.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:26Uh, enhancing pre-event rehearsals,
- 13:28communication protocols and
- 13:30emergency resources.
- 13:32Um,
- 13:33like I know they test the hell out of
- 13:35things, um,
- 13:36I don't know.
- 13:38Again,
- 13:38this just could be corporate speak
- 13:41as making it public as to what they do.
- 13:45They do talk about expanding
- 13:46the athlete briefings,
- 13:49which you and I have sat through.
- 13:51Those athletes don't pay
- 13:52attention to what's there in the moment.
- 13:56And they're already too long.
- 13:59Yeah.
- 14:00And a lot of questions don't
- 14:01really get addressed either.
- 14:02I mean, they do, but they don't.
- 14:04It depends on who's giving them, but.
- 14:07I feel like it's more around rules of,
- 14:09you know,
- 14:09movement standards and not
- 14:11anything around, you know,
- 14:13safety specifics.
- 14:15Yeah,
- 14:15the only time I can remember the
- 14:17safety thing being brought
- 14:19up was the rope climb at
- 14:22Syndicate Crown when Scott
- 14:24Pancheck hurt his knee.
- 14:26Yeah, and really...
- 14:29yeah and really the only
- 14:30time I remember safety
- 14:32being being brought up and
- 14:33headlined is when wilson
- 14:35pock did anything like he
- 14:37before he even addressed
- 14:38the crowd to welcome them
- 14:40he would talk about
- 14:42emergency exits in the
- 14:43building and you know this
- 14:44is the person you go to
- 14:45he's really good at that I
- 14:47thought all his events were
- 14:48pretty buttoned up uh
- 14:52they're also going to
- 14:53expand mental and emotional
- 14:55support resources
- 14:58I'm fine with all, with all of that.
- 15:00And then the last thing is
- 15:02establishing a CrossFit athlete council.
- 15:05Um,
- 15:06many of the shows have talked about
- 15:07this being a middle finger to the PFAA.
- 15:10Um, it is, um,
- 15:12there was an athlete council
- 15:14for a good number of years.
- 15:19Um, our very good friend, uh,
- 15:21Alexis de Troyes was a
- 15:23member of that athlete
- 15:24council for a year or so.
- 15:27Um,
- 15:28but this is what will be
- 15:30different is this basically
- 15:35they'll have more say and
- 15:36it will represent all levels of athlete,
- 15:43including masters teams, all of that.
- 15:46So that aspect of it, I like,
- 15:50but I know that when the
- 15:52last athlete council was put together,
- 15:54I'm not sure they were
- 15:56counseled as much as,
- 15:58they should be.
- 16:00And it was maybe more of an
- 16:01appearance than, than a reality.
- 16:05This has to be like an honorary title,
- 16:07right?
- 16:08With not a lot of action.
- 16:09I think this needs to be
- 16:11taken more seriously if
- 16:12they do it right this time.
- 16:15I do like the aspect that
- 16:16they are going to include
- 16:22all the different divisions
- 16:24representing them.
- 16:25So
- 16:28That is that.
- 16:29And then I have heard
- 16:31several rumors that there
- 16:32will be more about the upcoming season,
- 16:36possibly tomorrow.
- 16:38Cool.
- 16:40Yeah,
- 16:40I think a lot of people are waiting
- 16:43on that.
- 16:45Before we move on to other things,
- 16:47there was some response on the internet,
- 16:50of course.
- 16:54And one of those was from Luca.
- 16:57Um,
- 17:01He shared this post
- 17:03immediately following that
- 17:04release where he said,
- 17:06no investigation can reveal
- 17:07anything other than the
- 17:08fact that there was no
- 17:09reaction when it was needed.
- 17:11Shortly after CrossFit Inc.
- 17:12announced their third-party investigation,
- 17:14I was informed by a source
- 17:16that they would not be
- 17:16sharing the results.
- 17:18However,
- 17:18I wanted to hear this directly from them.
- 17:21This is merely a let's buy some time,
- 17:24move until the community forgets,
- 17:26and it's time to cash in on them again.
- 17:28The next time you consider
- 17:29signing up for the open
- 17:31paying your affiliate fee
- 17:32or letting a few CrossFit
- 17:33Inc oriented media pawns
- 17:35influence you think
- 17:37carefully about giving your money,
- 17:38power and time to a company
- 17:40that does not value human life.
- 17:42That's deep.
- 17:47Yeah.
- 17:48And it's his brother.
- 17:49Like he, he's going to be mad.
- 17:51I get that.
- 17:52Um,
- 17:54And so his feelings are
- 17:55valid through all of that
- 17:57and definitely has the
- 17:59right to make those posts.
- 18:04Because that was his brother that suffered,
- 18:09lost his life in this.
- 18:10So yeah,
- 18:11and we truly know the full impact
- 18:15of what he's getting at
- 18:17until the open starts.
- 18:20And there will be this huge
- 18:22microscope on who registers
- 18:25and who doesn't in the elite groups.
- 18:29And I think we're going to
- 18:30find some cohorts that are not playing.
- 18:35I do believe Clock asks,
- 18:42are we a CrossFit Inc.
- 18:45oriented media pawn?
- 18:47I would say no.
- 18:50We don't... They don't even
- 18:52communicate with us.
- 18:53So...
- 18:59there's already been some
- 18:59reaction from athletes.
- 19:01Emma McQuaid made an
- 19:02announcement that she is
- 19:03not participating in the
- 19:04twenty twenty five game season.
- 19:07Elliott Simmons made a post.
- 19:10So there already is some
- 19:12trickling of effect of this.
- 19:14So we'll have to see over
- 19:16the next few months if there is more.
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:27Interesting.
- 19:27I have a
- 19:29I just have, I love this sport, right?
- 19:34I love this sport and I love
- 19:36covering it and I love
- 19:37everything about it.
- 19:40Has it been mismanaged?
- 19:42It sure has,
- 19:44but I don't want it to just go away.
- 19:46And I think, gosh, it's just,
- 19:52Here's the thing that gets
- 19:55me is when you go to the games,
- 19:57it is the safest that I see
- 19:59what the athletes being –
- 20:02thought of crossfit has
- 20:04reacted over time there
- 20:06were burnt hands on on rigs
- 20:08and barbells now they have
- 20:10covers that cover them
- 20:12their their people fell
- 20:13from ropes and were out of
- 20:14the games now they have the
- 20:16big crash mats like things
- 20:18have happened in the past
- 20:19where they've responded
- 20:22appropriately and now it is
- 20:24much much safer this was a
- 20:27tragic event that everybody
- 20:29is hopefully going to learn from
- 20:33I wish someone didn't have
- 20:35to die to learn the lesson,
- 20:38but we need more lifeguards in the water.
- 20:40We need more.
- 20:43You know,
- 20:43I watched some of the behind the
- 20:44scenes of the NorCal
- 20:45classic and they made all
- 20:47the swimmers wear a
- 20:48personal flotation device.
- 20:50Yeah.
- 20:51that they drug behind them.
- 20:53There are,
- 20:54there are solutions to this problem.
- 20:56I wish Lazar didn't have to
- 20:58die for us to get to this point, but I,
- 21:01I have to trust in the
- 21:02track record of what
- 21:03CrossFit has done in the
- 21:04past that they will make
- 21:05changes to make that safer.
- 21:07And right now they're
- 21:08getting rid of all open
- 21:09water swims anyway.
- 21:12I've watched a lot of other
- 21:13events where I didn't think
- 21:15the athletes were very safe.
- 21:18And I think that while you
- 21:20may have issues with CrossFit,
- 21:21and I understand where some
- 21:24people felt like Castro
- 21:26lied to them and that
- 21:27they're never going to
- 21:28forgive him for that.
- 21:30And I understand that.
- 21:32But some of these other
- 21:33events are not safe.
- 21:35And everybody is bundling
- 21:37this safety issue as their
- 21:39big beef when I truly
- 21:41believe the beef is other aspects of it.
- 21:44Mm-hmm.
- 21:46They're using Lazar's death
- 21:47to try to have a platform
- 21:49to get the change they want.
- 21:51But the change is really for
- 21:52another reason.
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:54I think the same thing with, you know,
- 21:55wanting Dave's head on the platter too.
- 21:57I think most of the people
- 21:58that are on that bandwagon
- 22:02had issues with Dave in the past.
- 22:08And you and I have worked
- 22:09for big companies before, right?
- 22:12Or like I work for the state of Ohio.
- 22:14There are times you're not
- 22:15allowed to say anything you
- 22:18want to say because they have muted you.
- 22:22And like it or not,
- 22:24Berkshire owns CrossFit now.
- 22:27And somebody died.
- 22:29And their people are going
- 22:30to tell you what you can and cannot say.
- 22:35Yeah.
- 22:46Um, James W says, felt like Castro lied.
- 22:48He did lie,
- 22:49called a misrepresentation if you want,
- 22:51but he lied unless dozens
- 22:52of athletes and coaches are
- 22:54lying about what happened.
- 22:57Yeah.
- 22:58Right.
- 23:00I was not present for any of that.
- 23:02That's why I'm using looser terms.
- 23:04Yes.
- 23:05People are saying,
- 23:06and Castro did come out and
- 23:07admit that he
- 23:08misrepresented or however he
- 23:10wants to phrase it.
- 23:11The truth in that matter.
- 23:16I guess the feel like at this point is,
- 23:19do you feel like that's a
- 23:20deal breaker or not?
- 23:21And we're going to find out
- 23:22who feels that's a deal breaker.
- 23:28Yeah.
- 23:28And it'll be interesting to see, you know,
- 23:30if there is a big fallout,
- 23:32what other events are going
- 23:34to step up to sort of fill
- 23:36the void for those athletes.
- 23:38Cause I don't think those
- 23:39athletes are just going to
- 23:39walk away from the sport necessarily.
- 23:49Yeah.
- 23:50Yeah.
- 23:50I mean, there are alternatives.
- 23:51You can make a lot.
- 23:52If you're in it for the money,
- 23:53there's plenty of places to
- 23:54go make money.
- 23:58Yeah.
- 23:59And we'll cover it and we'll, you know,
- 24:01talk about it and...
- 24:04I just don't think there's
- 24:07nothing right now presently
- 24:08that brings the strength of
- 24:11field together like the CrossFit Games.
- 24:14And until there's somebody
- 24:16else that does that,
- 24:17that makes you feel the best of the best,
- 24:22we're stuck where we are.
- 24:24Yeah.
- 24:25And the only other one I can
- 24:27think of that brings the
- 24:27best of the best is Rogue,
- 24:29but that is dependent on
- 24:30your scores at the other
- 24:32place where the best of the best is.
- 24:33Yeah, I think that's going to change.
- 24:38Yeah, I don't know.
- 24:40If Rogue is a major sponsor
- 24:41of the CrossFit Games,
- 24:42there is a business
- 24:43relationship there that we
- 24:45have to see how they feel
- 24:47about the relationship or not.
- 24:49Yeah,
- 24:50but it doesn't mean that they can't
- 24:52change the rules of their
- 24:52invitation and they can
- 24:53invite whoever they want.
- 24:55They don't have to invite
- 24:57the top twenty at the games.
- 25:02They're not doing the games
- 25:03any favors by doing that.
- 25:04You know what I mean?
- 25:05It's not benefiting CrossFit necessarily.
- 25:10I don't know.
- 25:12I think they can maintain
- 25:13their business support for
- 25:16the event and still do
- 25:19their own thing at their own event.
- 25:21Yeah.
- 25:25I agree.
- 25:26But if you saw Katie's interview this week,
- 25:29she is very adamant that
- 25:30they are not finding the
- 25:32fittest on earth.
- 25:35Right.
- 25:36That is not what they are
- 25:38trying to accomplish.
- 25:42But what they are trying to accomplish,
- 25:43they're doing a great job of.
- 25:44They could easily swing into
- 25:46something else if they wanted to.
- 25:49Yeah.
- 25:50And who's to say that that
- 25:51concept doesn't need to be the standard?
- 25:55right?
- 25:56Like you can have events
- 26:00like golf events where
- 26:02there isn't just one big
- 26:04culmination of who's the
- 26:07best golfer in the world, right?
- 26:08I mean,
- 26:08you can look at stats and sort of
- 26:10make assumptions,
- 26:11but there isn't like one big event.
- 26:13So who's to say that CrossFit has to have,
- 26:17you know,
- 26:18the biggest event where it's
- 26:20crowning the fittest,
- 26:21where it can't just be a
- 26:22whole bunch of events where
- 26:23people get first, second, or third and
- 26:24you know, aside for yourself.
- 26:28They do that in tennis, right?
- 26:29You have clay court, you have grass court,
- 26:31you have hard court and
- 26:33there's not a world champion, right?
- 26:37And you can be the best clay court player,
- 26:39but maybe not the others or,
- 26:42and why couldn't you have a
- 26:43big four that you have the,
- 26:45the strongest athlete and
- 26:47you have the best endurance
- 26:49athlete and you have the, you know,
- 26:51we could, it could be done the same way.
- 26:54I think we're years away from that, but,
- 26:56um, and maybe this is the,
- 26:59the straw that starts that down a road.
- 27:03Um, we don't know.
- 27:04We, we did get word this week that, um,
- 27:07wills, um, WPF, is that what it is?
- 27:12We're old.
- 27:14Yeah.
- 27:15It is, uh, going to be three events, uh,
- 27:17to like preliminary events
- 27:19and a championship.
- 27:21We don't know what that's tied to yet.
- 27:23No specific details on that.
- 27:26But we do know that there
- 27:27will be a three-event
- 27:30season by athletes for
- 27:32athletes is their tagline
- 27:33now coming this season.
- 27:41Corey,
- 27:41tennis also has the Australian Open too.
- 27:43They have a big four.
- 27:44Yeah, it's a big four.
- 27:49Right.
- 27:49And golf has golf has like the skins.
- 27:51That's like, that's like grid.
- 27:53Right.
- 27:53Yeah.
- 27:53I like it.
- 27:54We can do that.
- 27:57Golf has four, two.
- 27:58They have the masters.
- 28:00They have the U S open.
- 28:01They have the British open
- 28:03and they have the PGA championship.
- 28:06Not that it's the championship.
- 28:07It's just always played at the PGA course.
- 28:10Right.
- 28:14I like it.
- 28:15So in other news,
- 28:21It was revealed accidentally.
- 28:24And that's why we do live
- 28:25shows and not prerecorded
- 28:27because you have to depend on editing.
- 28:30But not intended talking
- 28:32fitness released an episode.
- 28:34And at the very beginning of that episode,
- 28:35before they were to have gone live,
- 28:39they were recorded talking
- 28:41and Tommy Marquez revealed that Katrin,
- 28:43David's daughter is retiring.
- 28:44And then Lauren actually
- 28:46confirmed that in a
- 28:47conversation with Presley,
- 28:49who is at HWPO that has,
- 28:52that video has since been
- 28:53removed from YouTube.
- 28:58But yeah,
- 28:58you and I did a lot of
- 28:59editing back in the day of
- 29:00our episodes and I'm so
- 29:02glad that that wasn't us.
- 29:07Yeah.
- 29:07Cause sometimes the stuff we
- 29:08talk about outside of the
- 29:10recording or the live, uh,
- 29:13it should not make air and
- 29:15that's what happened here.
- 29:16And so apparently Katrin
- 29:18after ten years of making
- 29:19the games is hanging it up
- 29:21to start a family.
- 29:22Yeah.
- 29:24Somebody made a joke that
- 29:25it's not the first time
- 29:26that they announced a
- 29:28retirement early when they
- 29:29talked about Tia's
- 29:30retirement at the games in
- 29:33twenty twenty one.
- 29:34That's great.
- 29:36Yeah, I don't I mean,
- 29:38I don't know how you
- 29:39accidentally leave that in.
- 29:42I don't.
- 29:42Yeah.
- 29:44Did we record stuff like our
- 29:46conversations before we
- 29:47actually started our conversations?
- 29:49I felt like.
- 29:51We knew when someone was
- 29:51hitting the button that that's the start.
- 29:54I don't know.
- 29:56Yeah, probably.
- 29:59but they, they,
- 29:59they actually have like a
- 30:00production crew.
- 30:01Right.
- 30:03And so maybe they don't know
- 30:04when the button is totally hit.
- 30:05Yeah.
- 30:06I don't know.
- 30:07And they just lop off the
- 30:09beginning and the ending.
- 30:11I don't know.
- 30:12I'm not in their, their camp.
- 30:15But I know that I have
- 30:16missed things in the middle
- 30:18that I wanted to edit out
- 30:19and forgot about it last
- 30:20minute in a rush.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:23Back and do it after it's catastrophic,
- 30:27but sure.
- 30:27Yeah,
- 30:28I think based on Katrin's Instagram
- 30:30lately,
- 30:30I think we all kind of assumed
- 30:31that she was done competing
- 30:32though because she's gotten
- 30:34some enhancements done to
- 30:36her body and we feel like
- 30:38she's probably going to get
- 30:38pregnant at some point.
- 30:40I mean,
- 30:40that's at least been some of the talk.
- 30:44Yeah.
- 30:49So good for her.
- 30:50Good for them.
- 30:51Corey said, watching the clip,
- 30:52it felt intentional.
- 30:53Sean gave them a countdown
- 30:55after they talked about Katrin.
- 30:59Yeah, I don't know how you miss that.
- 31:01But some people like to show
- 31:05that they know things
- 31:06before everyone else knows things.
- 31:08And I feel like there are a
- 31:10lot of people in the space
- 31:11that like to flex on that.
- 31:14And,
- 31:15and we are very good at not doing that.
- 31:17We try
- 31:21are there are a lot of
- 31:22things that we've known
- 31:23about that we haven't said
- 31:24and you know like oh yeah
- 31:26we knew or hey yeah we
- 31:27talked about that or hey my
- 31:28friend susie told me last
- 31:29week yeah whatever yeah
- 31:33nobody cares yeah yeah uh
- 31:39so the next thing I wanted
- 31:40to talk about real quick is
- 31:40john young um if you didn't
- 31:43see this he um got in
- 31:44trouble with the united grid league um
- 31:49And why I want to bring this
- 31:51up is I am very anti-censorship.
- 31:55I hate the cancel culture
- 32:00and I hate censorship of people.
- 32:03One,
- 32:04John Young is one of the most tame
- 32:08people on a mic for the CrossFit space.
- 32:14guy doesn't even cuss like
- 32:16he is very tame and when
- 32:20you're on the air for two
- 32:21hours inevitably as much as
- 32:24john young is on the mic
- 32:26hours after hours after you
- 32:27are going to say something
- 32:29that probably comes out
- 32:31wrong or does not sound
- 32:34right in the moment
- 32:37It doesn't help that then
- 32:38someone takes what you say out of context,
- 32:41clips it together in a way
- 32:43that makes it even sound ten times worse.
- 32:46And that guy is a douche.
- 32:49Tom Sroka doing what he did
- 32:51was complete being an asshole.
- 32:56He was an asshole about it.
- 32:58He had an agenda and he went after it.
- 33:07I,
- 33:09there are a lot of people that say a lot
- 33:10of bad things on the internet,
- 33:13but John Young is not one
- 33:14of those people.
- 33:16And the fact that they,
- 33:18he has a goal of trying to
- 33:20compete in the grid league next year,
- 33:22and they're trying to take
- 33:23that away from him.
- 33:24And I find that repulsive.
- 33:27Yeah.
- 33:27Yeah.
- 33:30Last night on The Spin,
- 33:32Brian Spin put a link to
- 33:34the main sponsor of Grid League, Olipop.
- 33:38And the way they're trying
- 33:40to show support for John,
- 33:41because Olipop doesn't want
- 33:44to associate with them and
- 33:47is trying to pull back away
- 33:48from Spin and all this kind of stuff,
- 33:51is to buy merch and say, there's a place,
- 33:54like, where did you hear about us?
- 33:55And I wrote, I'm supporting John Young.
- 33:58And so what they...
- 34:00they're doing is there's a
- 34:01link on their episode last night.
- 34:03If you click on that link,
- 34:05you can support John by
- 34:06buying some of it to show
- 34:08that he is not a detriment to,
- 34:10to them advertising,
- 34:12but actually could be an enhancement.
- 34:13Genius.
- 34:17Um, and so if you want to do that,
- 34:19go over to the barbell spin.
- 34:21If you support John,
- 34:23I'm not saying you should.
- 34:24I,
- 34:25I believe in that people should not be
- 34:27censored.
- 34:28I believe in turning the channel.
- 34:30If you don't like what you're hearing,
- 34:31flip to the next station.
- 34:33There's plenty of shit to
- 34:34watch on the internet.
- 34:36Trust me.
- 34:37And, and lots of stuff to get offended by.
- 34:39If you know, if you're looking for it,
- 34:41that's what you're into for sure.
- 34:44Yeah.
- 34:45But,
- 34:47Calling someone bald and
- 34:48calling someone big mama
- 34:50where I grew up would have
- 34:52not even registered.
- 34:56I'm a big guy.
- 34:57There's no hiding that I am a big guy.
- 34:59When I'm working out,
- 35:00I get called big guy or
- 35:02look at that big dude or whatever.
- 35:05And
- 35:07doesn't offend me I'm not
- 35:08hiding anything put on a
- 35:11skinny suit and hide from
- 35:13it all I'm a big guy that's
- 35:15how people are going to
- 35:16identify me um and if
- 35:19that's what offends you my
- 35:20gosh like I guess
- 35:24You're entitled to be offended, but my God,
- 35:27that's awful.
- 35:27People say that I'm just
- 35:29beautiful all the time and
- 35:31it's just exhausting.
- 35:34And it's just, you know,
- 35:35I keep trying to tell people like, hey,
- 35:37mind your business.
- 35:39Don't be so rude.
- 35:43I don't know how you deal with it.
- 35:45I just take it on the chin.
- 35:46It's fine.
- 35:48Yeah.
- 35:49It's got to be rough.
- 35:51Got to be rough.
- 35:54So the last thing I wanted
- 35:55to talk about real quick is
- 35:57Gabby Magawa announced that
- 35:59her Achilles is back together.
- 36:02Oh, fun.
- 36:04So just a big, big old strain, I guess.
- 36:07No, no, no.
- 36:08She had surgery.
- 36:09She had the surgery.
- 36:14Mentally, she feels whole again.
- 36:18And I don't,
- 36:19I think that's a cool like concept.
- 36:20Like,
- 36:22Like an interesting thing
- 36:24that she was going through.
- 36:24Like she didn't feel
- 36:26together or whole until that was fixed.
- 36:29And now that it's fixed mentally,
- 36:31it's moved her past a step.
- 36:34Good.
- 36:36But yeah,
- 36:37it's in her story if you want to
- 36:38check it out.
- 36:40She looks like she still
- 36:41might be under some pain, sedation stuff.
- 36:46But it's a cool little thing
- 36:48on her story talking about
- 36:50that it's been fixed and
- 36:52she's ready to move on.
- 36:54Do we think that Gabby and
- 36:55Roman are going to be ready for the open?
- 36:59No way is Gabby ready for the open.
- 37:00Yeah.
- 37:02Roman, maybe.
- 37:05I mean, I don't think,
- 37:06I don't know what's totally
- 37:08wrong with him.
- 37:11Yeah.
- 37:11I just know torn Achilles.
- 37:12Like I got really close to
- 37:14check Chelsea Nicholas who
- 37:15ruptured her at the twenty
- 37:17three CrossFit games.
- 37:19And like her doctor said, yeah,
- 37:21you can start back to stuff in a year.
- 37:24In a year.
- 37:26But it's not completely
- 37:29healed for eighteen months.
- 37:31Okay.
- 37:35So I'm curious to see how,
- 37:36how Roman rehabs his torn labrum.
- 37:39I'm sure he's got better
- 37:41resources than Charlie and
- 37:42I had when we recovered from ours.
- 37:44So.
- 37:44Yeah, I, I thought it was a foot.
- 37:48So I like,
- 37:48that's how out of it I am with Roman.
- 37:50Oh yeah.
- 37:52I think he has a torn labrum.
- 37:54Okay.
- 37:55Like,
- 37:56like me and he has the Charlie cat
- 37:58surgery,
- 38:00but he had it already when we're
- 38:01assuming.
- 38:01So we'll see.
- 38:04Yeah, true, Corey.
- 38:05Corey says the Open is one thing,
- 38:06semifinals is another thing entirely.
- 38:08True.
- 38:10But got to do the Open first.
- 38:12Yeah,
- 38:13we don't even know what the season is
- 38:16to know what you have to be ready for.
- 38:18Yeah.
- 38:18I've heard so many rumors.
- 38:20I don't even want to get
- 38:21into it until if it's
- 38:22coming out tomorrow because
- 38:24I've heard so many
- 38:24different versions of what
- 38:26the season may end up being.
- 38:28Mm-hmm.
- 38:28I don't know.
- 38:33So...
- 38:34Hi, Dense.
- 38:35Yeah,
- 38:35we don't even know what they're
- 38:38getting ready for.
- 38:40Yeah, Jenny's in the chat.
- 38:41Hello.
- 38:45Her latest Dense update is
- 38:46all about what we just
- 38:47talked about with the
- 38:49release of the news and
- 38:51some Hiller stuff.
- 38:52Corey's flexing.
- 38:58Whatever, Corey.
- 38:59Corey,
- 39:00we don't even know what the format is,
- 39:01dude.
- 39:05um next week is thanksgiving
- 39:06what's happening we're not
- 39:10we're not going to be on
- 39:11next thursday yeah and the
- 39:13bears play at so oh okay
- 39:14that's what you'll be doing
- 39:19that's where I will be um
- 39:21I'm gonna try to smush some
- 39:22people in my apartment for
- 39:24dinner uh let's talk
- 39:28offline maybe we'll do a
- 39:29wednesday show or yeah a
- 39:32black friday show
- 39:34Either one.
- 39:36I'm actually thinking about,
- 39:38and this is when I'm going
- 39:40back to the days when we
- 39:41used to have our meetings on, on live.
- 39:46I'm actually thinking about
- 39:47going into the next year
- 39:49after we find out like what the season is,
- 39:51what we're looking at is
- 39:52doing an everyday lunch show.
- 39:56Cool.
- 39:57Just checking in.
- 39:59Yeah.
- 40:00And then bring maybe some of
- 40:02our friends on like Corey
- 40:04or Jenny or some of these
- 40:06people just to chat.
- 40:08But I don't want it to
- 40:10necessarily be CrossFit based.
- 40:16Right.
- 40:17Just life based.
- 40:17Yeah.
- 40:18What's that going to do for
- 40:19your lunchtime workouts though,
- 40:20Mr. Schweitzer?
- 40:24Oh, that is a good point.
- 40:26I'm just brainstorming.
- 40:29Well,
- 40:29and you wouldn't have to be on all of
- 40:30them.
- 40:30Maybe I could run a couple.
- 40:32I don't have to be on all of them at all.
- 40:35The plan was,
- 40:36it was just to have something
- 40:37like every day for people
- 40:38to come check in at lunch.
- 40:40Yeah.
- 40:41Um, as long as we can eat on air,
- 40:42I'm fine with that.
- 40:45Well,
- 40:45we could even call it lunch with the
- 40:46crew or.
- 40:46Yeah.
- 40:48Ever bring your food and.
- 40:50Brown bag.
- 40:51Yeah.
- 40:54Uh, but it's just a thought.
- 40:55Yeah.
- 40:57So.
- 40:58Okay.
- 41:00All right.
- 41:00I got a one o'clock.
- 41:02I could do it live on my assault bike.
- 41:05You could.
- 41:09Hold on.
- 41:09I've got to clean this.
- 41:10Three hundred and eighty
- 41:11five pounds in my dreams.
- 41:15I eat at my desk every single day to Corey,
- 41:16but not when we're on air.
- 41:18That's the problem.
- 41:19But if we could, if I could eat on air,
- 41:20I'm all for it.
- 41:22Yeah.
- 41:23When you eat on air,
- 41:24it's amazing how many
- 41:25trolls come out of the woodwork.
- 41:26Right.
- 41:29Those people that suffer
- 41:29from whatever that phobia is,
- 41:31they can't stand like the chewing or.
- 41:34Remember one time I had like
- 41:35a Stanley Cup.
- 41:37Or any of that stuff.
- 41:40But chew on camera and we
- 41:43get eighty seven comments.
- 41:45Yeah.
- 41:47It is crazy.
- 41:48Remember I had the Stanley
- 41:49cup with like a metal straw
- 41:50and someone was like, Oh dear God,
- 41:52what does that take?
- 41:53Take your cup away or something.
- 41:54I'm like, dude, so,
- 41:58so much chicken and rice.
- 41:59Yeah.
- 41:59Yeah.
- 42:02All right, guys.
- 42:04We will catch everybody next time.
- 42:06We will post something up
- 42:08about when we'll have the show next week.
- 42:11We'll check on everybody's
- 42:12schedule and see how we can do that.
- 42:14But if we don't see you before then,
- 42:15happy Thanksgiving.
- 42:17And we'll see everybody next
- 42:18time on Clydesdale Media Roundtable.
- 42:20Bye, guys.
- 42:21Bye.
