- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey everybody, this is Anthony Michael Hall, and you're listening
- 0:08Speaker 1: to my friends Brian J.
- 0:10Speaker 2: And Misty on Movie Meltdown. Don't touch that dial.
- 0:20Speaker 3: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:23Speaker 3: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:25Speaker 3: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:28Speaker 3: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:31Speaker 3: for you. But we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:33Speaker 3: from that do not feature Misty, and will probably be
- 0:36Speaker 3: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. With that having been said,
- 0:40Speaker 3: on with the show.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It's showtime.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Million kilowatts of power.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Provide more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:14Speaker 2: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Suddenly, I heard a tapping, as of someone gently rapping,
- 1:22Speaker 5: rapping at my chamber door.
- 1:34Speaker 6: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:36Speaker 7: I'm Misty.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And I'm Jay.
- 1:38Speaker 6: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:41Speaker 6: the outskirts of Scarefest. Once again in sunny Lexington, Kentucky.
- 1:45Speaker 6: This has been a couple weeks in a row in Lexington.
- 1:47Speaker 6: They've done some pretty awesome stuff as of recent.
- 1:50Speaker 7: And it is just a delightful day.
- 1:51Speaker 6: It's very nice out.
- 1:52Speaker 7: It's very nice. We've got the windows down.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Hanging outside in the vicinity of the arena.
- 1:59Speaker 7: This parking lot's not creepy and abandoned like last week's.
- 2:03Speaker 6: A recent outing to another convention. Not near as creepy.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Which is weird to see horror fans out in the daylight.
- 2:09Speaker 6: Bright shininess and their black tee and black jeans and
- 2:15Speaker 6: lots of makeup this time around it's lots of uh
- 2:17Speaker 6: costumes not even like cosplay just people that kind of
- 2:20Speaker 6: want to like wear some makeup and.
- 2:22Speaker 7: That's what's been throwing me off because it's like there's
- 2:24Speaker 7: costumes for people because usually it's like you have a
- 2:26Speaker 7: theme there if you if there's like a certain guest
- 2:28Speaker 7: you'll have more like people dressed up as that like
- 2:31Speaker 7: one of those that that guest's.
- 2:33Speaker 6: Characters something tied to that guest I've seen.
- 2:35Speaker 7: So many like Captain Spaulding's today.
- 2:37Speaker 6: I was going to say, as we were walking back through,
- 2:39Speaker 6: I was just like, I think I've seen more Captain
- 2:41Speaker 6: Spaulding's today than maybe ever. And this is the one
- 2:44Speaker 6: time he's not here.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Well, that's because every fat bald guy in the lower
- 2:50Speaker 1: part of Kentucky can be Captain Spaulding.
- 2:52Speaker 7: I saw a small child.
- 2:54Speaker 6: So does that. Yeah, there was a kid.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I think there was a girl.
- 2:56Speaker 6: At some point.
- 2:57Speaker 8: What?
- 2:58Speaker 6: There's been lots of Captain Spaulding's today.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, maybe we're just in Captain Spaulding land.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Maybe so.
- 3:04Speaker 7: I was kind of afraid we'd see more people in
- 3:06Speaker 7: their underwear.
- 3:06Speaker 6: They're just like fried chicken.
- 3:08Speaker 7: I figured we'd have some like, you know.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Damn it, Janet's. Yeah, exactly.
- 3:11Speaker 7: But no, I didn't see anybody.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Thank God.
- 3:13Speaker 6: You saw Brad's underwear. It was on display.
- 3:15Speaker 7: He had several pairs. I got kids by my underwear.
- 3:20Speaker 6: This would be Barry Boswick here as a guest displaying
- 3:24Speaker 6: his underwear proudly at the table. Granted, they weren't on
- 3:26Speaker 6: him or anything. It was in like a frame. You
- 3:28Speaker 6: could buy some underwear.
- 3:29Speaker 7: Had they been worn previously?
- 3:30Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 3:32Speaker 6: You know, it'd drive the price up a little bit.
- 3:33Speaker 7: I think I spent my entire life thinking that there
- 3:35Speaker 7: was a T in his name. And I was like,
- 3:37Speaker 7: wait a minute. What do you mean it's not Bostwick?
- 3:40Speaker 7: It's Bostwick. And I was like, what?
- 3:41Speaker 9: Really?
- 3:41Speaker 7: My whole life is a lie.
- 3:43Speaker 6: He's one of the Berenstain Bears.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 3:46Speaker 7: This is one of my favorite conventions to come to.
- 3:48Speaker 7: It's always... I guess it's more low-key, maybe, than a
- 3:52Speaker 7: lot of them are. It's definitely more hand-manageable than one.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Than many of the rest of them. They're all... They
- 3:58Speaker 6: get kind of crazy sometimes. Overwhelming. Where this one's... It's a.
- 4:01Speaker 7: Nice, relaxed.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Outing into the horror geeks.
- 4:04Speaker 7: But they always managed to get, like, real impressive celebrities. Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 7: I mean, they had Danny Trejo. They had Tracy Lord.
- 4:11Speaker 7: They had Barry Boswick. Boswick. They had E.T.
- 4:15Speaker 6: 's mom.
- 4:16Speaker 10: E.T.
- 4:16Speaker 6: 's mom. We saw her. The Crypt Keeper. We saw him.
- 4:19Speaker 7: Who else did we see? We saw a whole bunch
- 4:21Speaker 7: of people. Freddy Krueger was here.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Robert Englund's in that building right there, wandering around.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 7: The guy who manages to have a line no matter
- 4:29Speaker 7: where we are, Kane Hodder? I don't understand that one.
- 4:31Speaker 6: I don't get that. Who hasn't seen Kane Hodder at
- 4:33Speaker 6: this point?
- 4:33Speaker 7: I mean, seriously, he's at every convention we go to
- 4:35Speaker 7: and every convention he has a line at the goddamn door.
- 4:37Speaker 6: I see him every two weeks of my life. Why
- 4:39Speaker 6: are you people not done with him like I am?
- 4:41Speaker 7: I don't get it.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I mean, whatever.
- 4:43Speaker 7: Hey, you know what? Whatever helps his career, but I
- 4:45Speaker 7: just don't get it. Who else did we see here
- 4:48Speaker 7: today that was pretty impressive? They had some paranormal people.
- 4:50Speaker 7: They had the Ghost Brothers.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Ghost Brothers? They seemed like they were having fun.
- 4:54Speaker 7: They had the guy I saw at the BMV last week.
- 4:58Speaker 6: I don't think he's paranormal. He's just a dude who
- 5:01Speaker 6: keeps showing up at conventions.
- 5:02Speaker 7: Well, he makes movies, I think.
- 5:03Speaker 6: That's the story, but I still kind of question it.
- 5:06Speaker 7: Did I discuss that?
- 5:07Speaker 6: I don't think you did, but yeah. I guess we
- 5:10Speaker 6: don't even have to out him. Just describe what happened,
- 5:12Speaker 6: and I think it's funny.
- 5:13Speaker 7: I was at the BMV getting my.
- 5:16Speaker 6: I guess, because I always thought it was the DMV.
- 5:18Speaker 7: Once the Bureau of Motor Vehicles opened.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Just so people aren't confused.
- 5:21Speaker 7: It's the BMV over in Indiana, apparently. I don't know
- 5:23Speaker 7: if there's a difference in Louisville. Is it the DMV?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Over in Louisville, it's the Department of Motor Vehicles. It
- 5:29Speaker 1: is the DMV.
- 5:30Speaker 7: But in Indiana, it's the BMV.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yes, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
- 5:34Speaker 7: Either way, I was in there waiting patiently. Which is
- 5:37Speaker 7: something that, no, I don't.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Never happened.
- 5:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 6: So you had to actually get like a new card made?
- 5:42Speaker 6: Like they had to take the photo and whatnot?
- 5:44Speaker 7: No, I was getting the card registered. So I had
- 5:46Speaker 7: to get.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Swapping out the registration.
- 5:47Speaker 7: I had to do like a title switch. Yes, it's
- 5:49Speaker 7: really interesting for everybody at home. I had to do
- 5:50Speaker 7: like the title transfer.
- 5:52Speaker 6: This is important to the story.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I know, right?
- 5:54Speaker 7: So I'm sitting there. I got my number. I don't
- 5:56Speaker 7: remember what my number was. I was like, what is
- 5:58Speaker 7: Harley Quinn doing over here?
- 6:01Speaker 6: Don't you worry about what they're doing out in the
- 6:03Speaker 6: parking lot.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I'm serious. She was going for his junk, like, right
- 6:06Speaker 7: here in the parking lot. That was, yeah. But anyways,
- 6:08Speaker 7: so I'm sitting there, and, like, this guy and his
- 6:11Speaker 7: wife walk in, and I'm like, well, this guy thinks
- 6:12Speaker 7: he's a fucking rock star. He has, like, a t-shirt
- 6:15Speaker 7: with the sleeves cut off. He has, like, the denim
- 6:17Speaker 7: vest with all the patches all over it with the sleeve,
- 6:20Speaker 7: or the vest. There's no sleeves to begin with. All
- 6:22Speaker 7: these cool patches all over it. He's wearing, like, the hat.
- 6:25Speaker 7: I can't even describe the hat. You know, like a
- 6:28Speaker 7: rock star hat.
- 6:29Speaker 6: Like a leather cowboy hat or something to that effect.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:31Speaker 7: A total rock star.
- 6:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 7: And then he's wearing like sweatpants and tennis shoes.
- 6:37Speaker 6: And I'm like, super cool.
- 6:39Speaker 7: I'm like, did I understand why I go a little
- 6:41Speaker 7: bit relaxed? Cause you're going to do the BMV, but
- 6:43Speaker 7: why half-ass it? Either put on your matching like sweatshirt
- 6:47Speaker 7: with your sleeves cut off or put on your goddamn
- 6:50Speaker 7: rockstar pants like a big boy and.
- 6:52Speaker 6: Just, just wear your metal boots and whatever the hell
- 6:55Speaker 6: else you wear on your outings into the world in
- 6:58Speaker 6: full regale.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it was pretty, I was like, I see this guy.
- 7:01Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure I see this guy at all the conventions.
- 7:03Speaker 7: But it wasn't until I looked at his Facebook page
- 7:04Speaker 7: and saw his wife. I'm like, I don't remember. Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 7: that's definitely. That's kind of the question. I'm like, why
- 7:08Speaker 7: do I know this guy? Every fucking horror convention we
- 7:12Speaker 7: go to.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Every horror convention we go to, he's there. He is.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Peddling whatever it is that he does. I think he
- 7:18Speaker 6: just likes to hang out at horror conventions.
- 7:20Speaker 7: He's as bad as we are. He did make a
- 7:22Speaker 7: horror movie that we did see or that I saw.
- 7:23Speaker 7: Did you saw it?
- 7:24Speaker 6: I don't think I remember.
- 7:25Speaker 7: I thought you watched it.
- 7:26Speaker 1: What horror movie?
- 7:27Speaker 7: If I tell what the movie is, everybody's going to
- 7:29Speaker 7: know who it was.
- 7:29Speaker 6: It was Dirty.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Never mind.
- 7:34Speaker 7: I don't care. He's not going to give out his
- 7:38Speaker 7: home address or anything.
- 7:40Speaker 2: He made.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And you saw him at the BMV?
- 7:43Speaker 7: Yes, I told you this.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Right next to our house. That's pretty funny.
- 7:48Speaker 6: What a rock star he must be.
- 7:50Speaker 7: I didn't specify which one it was. It could be
- 7:53Speaker 7: up in the air.
- 7:55Speaker 1: There's many BMVs around where we live.
- 7:59Speaker 6: Oh, Harley Quinn is reapplying the Joker's makeup. That's what's
- 8:02Speaker 6: going on here.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Got the door in the way. I can't see what
- 8:05Speaker 7: else she's doing.
- 8:06Speaker 6: I think she's just doing a... Again, it looks like
- 8:08Speaker 6: we're just in the front of a Macy's or something.
- 8:10Speaker 6: She's just giving them a makeover.
- 8:13Speaker 7: It was a rather uneventful drive down here today, which
- 8:16Speaker 7: is good, because usually we get stuck in the hellacious
- 8:19Speaker 7: traffic of parades or bike tours or whatever.
- 8:23Speaker 6: Usually there's some other weird, crazy thing going on at
- 8:25Speaker 6: the exact same time.
- 8:26Speaker 1: No, we got stuck in a little bit of football traffic.
- 8:29Speaker 7: I was a little bit further away. It wasn't as
- 8:32Speaker 7: bad as the marathon traffic we've gotten stuck in before.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. The marathon traffic was really bad.
- 8:40Speaker 6: They also made many more purchases than sometimes. Some of
- 8:46Speaker 6: them might not happen yet.
- 8:48Speaker 7: It's not my birthday!
- 8:49Speaker 1: That's because I got a bonus check.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Which means birthday!
- 8:54Speaker 6: Except it's not your birthday yet, so you don't know
- 8:55Speaker 6: you got anything yet.
- 8:57Speaker 7: Birthday, birthday, birthday, birthday.
- 8:59Speaker 6: One of these days, though, you might get something cool. Birthday, birthday, birthday, birthday.
- 9:04Speaker 7: It's a birthday song. I love October. It's like my
- 9:09Speaker 7: favorite of all the months. I wish we could have
- 9:10Speaker 7: like a longer October.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Like three months of October.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Three months of October would be awesome.
- 9:15Speaker 6: I could use that. I could totally make use of that.
- 9:19Speaker 7: I would. And if it would stay the same temperature,
- 9:21Speaker 7: like October weather.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It depends on what part of October. Because sometimes it's
- 9:26Speaker 1: been October.
- 9:26Speaker 7: And it's been What October is in my head.
- 9:29Speaker 1: October that you think of when you think of being
- 9:31Speaker 1: a kid. Like, you know, 60s maybe.
- 9:35Speaker 10: 70s.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I don't know. Probably 60s.
- 9:38Speaker 6: You want it kind of chilly, yeah.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That faint smell of somebody burning wood outside or burning leaves.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Which I'm not sure. Can you burn leaves anymore?
- 9:47Speaker 6: I mean, you can. Whether or not they like it
- 9:50Speaker 6: is a different stuff.
- 9:51Speaker 7: When it starts getting to the season where boyfriend will
- 9:52Speaker 7: let me have chili. Yeah. Because I'm like all the time.
- 9:56Speaker 7: Let's have chili. And he's like, no, girlfriend. It's 110
- 9:59Speaker 7: degrees outside. We can't have chili. like, but fuck, I
- 10:01Speaker 7: want chili.
- 10:02Speaker 1: When you have to work in a place that's 100
- 10:04Speaker 1: and some degrees.
- 10:06Speaker 7: Yes, but our house is like 70 degrees.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. But I got to go to work
- 10:12Speaker 1: the next day with chili belly in like 115 degree heat.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And then on top of that, with a flame in
- 10:19Speaker 1: front of me, there's so many thousand degrees. But chili's
- 10:22Speaker 1: so good. Last thing I want is chili.
- 10:23Speaker 7: It's so good. I had pumpkin pie twice already this year.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 10:29Speaker 7: I bought two pumpkin pies. I've eaten most of them
- 10:31Speaker 7: by myself.
- 10:32Speaker 6: I just bought pumpkin pie flavored things. I had, let's see,
- 10:37Speaker 6: I kicked off. My first pumpkin pie flavored thing was Twinkies.
- 10:41Speaker 7: I thought it was disgusting. Actually, not bad.
- 10:44Speaker 6: I guess it's kind of subtle. It's more so than
- 10:47Speaker 6: I expected.
- 10:48Speaker 7: I've never eaten a Twinkie.
- 10:49Speaker 6: I mean, Twinkies are, you know, they're not food anyway,
- 10:53Speaker 6: so it's fine.
- 10:54Speaker 7: I've never had a Twinkie.
- 10:56Speaker 6: What the hell is wrong with you?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Last Twinkie I had, I think I was probably around
- 10:59Speaker 1: like six or seven. So it would have been back
- 11:02Speaker 1: in the 70s.
- 11:03Speaker 6: They were probably still made with actual food items at
- 11:06Speaker 6: that point.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Not beef fat?
- 11:08Speaker 6: No, it's just like a chemical set.
- 11:10Speaker 7: I did have the Hostess Caramel Apple Cupcakes.
- 11:13Speaker 8: All right.
- 11:14Speaker 6: That's alright.
- 11:15Speaker 7: I mean, I don't think I'm going to... I stole
- 11:16Speaker 7: one from my stepdad. But I don't think I need
- 11:19Speaker 7: to go out and buy like an entire... I don't
- 11:20Speaker 7: think I could eat a whole box. Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 6: That's true with a lot of these things.
- 11:24Speaker 7: That's... I'm so sad because I used to love the
- 11:26Speaker 7: shit out of some... It was like the orange cupcakes.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:30Speaker 7: And then they quit making them for a while. I
- 11:32Speaker 7: don't know if it's a couple months or close to
- 11:33Speaker 7: a year. They quit making like the Hostess orange... Nobody
- 11:37Speaker 7: gives a shit about my orange cupcakes. But they quit
- 11:40Speaker 7: making them for like a while. And they brought them back,
- 11:43Speaker 7: and it just tasted disgusting. You could taste, like, the
- 11:45Speaker 7: beef fat in it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: The orange cakes?
- 11:47Speaker 6: No, it's more beef fat.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I love the orange cakes.
- 11:49Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying.
- 11:51Speaker 1: The old ones. I don't know what the new ones
- 11:53Speaker 1: taste like.
- 11:54Speaker 7: Like cow's innards.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Cupcake cow anus.
- 12:03Speaker 7: You can taste the just.
- 12:04Speaker 1: The yuck? The chemicals?
- 12:06Speaker 7: Yeah, you can just taste the gross of it. You
- 12:08Speaker 7: can taste, like, I don't know. It's just so gross.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Well, I didn't have any of that. The Twinkies were
- 12:14Speaker 6: all right for, again, they're not a food item.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I know that.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I just went out of sheer morbid curiosity what these
- 12:19Speaker 6: are going to be like. And the pumpkin end of
- 12:22Speaker 6: it's kind of subtle, so I'm okay with that.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Do you know what it's almost time for? It's probably
- 12:25Speaker 7: time now.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Is it shake time?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 6: We might have to stop right now for you to
- 12:31Speaker 6: go get a milkshake.
- 12:32Speaker 7: Oh, shit.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Steak and Shakes.
- 12:35Speaker 7: Caramel Apple Milkshake. It's the best thing that has ever
- 12:37Speaker 7: existed in this entire world. I mean, I'm serious. Good goddamn.
- 12:42Speaker 7: Caramel Apple Milkshakes, that's where it's at.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Well, every time they make apple anything, it's always green apple.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It's very rarely red apple.
- 12:49Speaker 7: And it tastes fake.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it does.
- 12:52Speaker 7: But a Steak and Shake, I will pimp them out,
- 12:56Speaker 7: let me tell you.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah, they pretty much nailed that caramel apple.
- 12:59Speaker 7: It's got the red apple taste, and it tastes like
- 13:01Speaker 7: a red fucking apple.
- 13:02Speaker 6: And it is so good.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It tastes like caramel apples I remember as a kid.
- 13:07Speaker 1: When we had caramel apples.
- 13:10Speaker 6: So far, I've had more milkshakes lately, though, but I
- 13:12Speaker 6: haven't gone there, so we need to work that in,
- 13:15Speaker 6: maybe right now. But before that, I have had many
- 13:19Speaker 6: Reese's Cups. I've been like, now they're just They're making
- 13:23Speaker 6: pumpkin-shaped Reese's.
- 13:24Speaker 7: I think the Joker just waved at me.
- 13:26Speaker 8: He did.
- 13:26Speaker 7: Why did the Joker just wave at me?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Maybe he waved at me.
- 13:29Speaker 6: You never know.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I gave him the head nod.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Oh, did you? Was it some silent communication that I missed?
- 13:34Speaker 1: That was the bro nod.
- 13:35Speaker 7: Okay.
- 13:36Speaker 6: You and Joker are bros.
- 13:38Speaker 1: What's up? Bro code.
- 13:41Speaker 6: I don't know if I trust the Joker and the
- 13:43Speaker 6: bro code.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You don't have to wave. You just head nod.
- 13:47Speaker 6: But, yep, I've gotten several pumpkin-shaped Reese's cups. Can't go
- 13:51Speaker 6: wrong with that.
- 13:52Speaker 7: Those have gotten weirder tasting, too. Those don't taste the
- 13:54Speaker 7: same as I remember tasting when I was a kid.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Well, it's not kid times no more. You got all
- 13:59Speaker 6: old and growed up, and look what happened.
- 14:00Speaker 7: But it's not just me, but they changed the candy.
- 14:03Speaker 6: They always change stuff. You know that. Everything's New Coke.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Everything's Crystal Pepsi.
- 14:09Speaker 6: Everything's Crystal Pepsi. Everything's Surge Cola. Speaking of which.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I like Surge.
- 14:16Speaker 6: We found one inside today.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Somebody had a cooler of Surge.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Did you feel surged after you refueled?
- 14:22Speaker 1: Well, you know, I was thinking, like as I was
- 14:26Speaker 1: drinking it, I was thinking, I was like, you know what?
- 14:28Speaker 1: I probably shouldn't have this because I've already had two
- 14:31Speaker 1: cups of coffee this morning. You know, I'm not supposed
- 14:35Speaker 1: to be drinking things like that.
- 14:38Speaker 6: So it's like a science experiment. We're going to see
- 14:40Speaker 6: what happens now.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Well, more like words of heart attack and stroke.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That could be the outcome.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, no.
- 14:48Speaker 6: I might beat you to it. We'll see.
- 14:50Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That's the shitty thing about getting older. You know, you're
- 14:56Speaker 1: doing the same things you used to do when you
- 14:58Speaker 1: were younger, and then you're going to the hospital with
- 15:03Speaker 1: irregular heartbeat and almost having a stroke.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Hey, fibs. But it makes it all worthwhile.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They're like, you need to calm down.
- 15:12Speaker 6: You're like, but I need more candy.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, the freaking heart doctor. He's like, He's like, do
- 15:18Speaker 1: you smoke? I was like, no. He goes, do you drink?
- 15:21Speaker 1: I was like, no. He's like, do you do drugs?
- 15:24Speaker 1: I was like, no. Yeah, don't believe me. He's like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: what are you doing? I was like, I wake up
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the morning and do 100 push-ups. He's like, there's
- 15:31Speaker 1: no reason you need to do that. Dude, fuck off.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Don't tell me what to do. Whatever the fuck I want.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Tell me I can't do shit.
- 15:40Speaker 6: I just keep buying candy. That leads you to a
- 15:43Speaker 6: healthy body, right?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 15:45Speaker 7: So are they going to bring back out the candy
- 15:48Speaker 7: corn Oreos?
- 15:49Speaker 6: Oh, have you seen the there's like 14 new weird
- 15:52Speaker 6: Oreo offshoots and it's kind of annoying. Like they're all
- 15:55Speaker 6: just things. I'm just like, that's not. No, don't. There's
- 15:58Speaker 6: like an apple. There's like an apple pie Oreos and
- 16:02Speaker 6: there's a peanut butter and jelly Oreos. And like there's
- 16:05Speaker 6: a lot.
- 16:05Speaker 7: Of the worst, the worst, the worst. I could not
- 16:08Speaker 7: even couldn't even.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Happy birthday.
- 16:10Speaker 7: Swedish Fish.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Swedish Fish. That's terrible.
- 16:13Speaker 7: See, that's what I'm like.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Who likes Swedish Fish?
- 16:16Speaker 6: Who at Nabisco is greenlighting this shit?
- 16:18Speaker 7: I at least thought Happy Birthday could taste okay. Those
- 16:21Speaker 7: were nasty as shit. But when I saw this, I
- 16:24Speaker 7: just looked at the Swedish Fish and I was like, no.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Just no.
- 16:26Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Who looked at that idea and went, yeah, that's going
- 16:30Speaker 6: to taste great.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Weird people.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Some of them have been surprisingly, like I said, the
- 16:35Speaker 7: candy corn was not bad. But I had caramel apple
- 16:38Speaker 7: once and I don't remember it being bad.
- 16:39Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I can't really say that because I like some weird stuff.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So it's not really fair for me to say that. Hey,
- 16:45Speaker 1: come on now. Squid's good.
- 16:46Speaker 7: No, it's not.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 8: It is.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Squid candy.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Candy corn M & Ms.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Those are still the white ones, though. I don't get
- 16:55Speaker 6: into those. I tried them just for, again, just I
- 16:58Speaker 6: got to test out these things. Voodooskotch. Much like my
- 17:01Speaker 6: new one, though. This year I saw it and went, damn,
- 17:03Speaker 6: now I have to buy that. And I don't even
- 17:05Speaker 6: know that I want this whole bag, but they only
- 17:06Speaker 6: came in the bag full of hand-in-out size. So I
- 17:09Speaker 6: now have pumpkin-flavored Kit-Kat.
- 17:12Speaker 7: How's that?
- 17:13Speaker 6: Actually, it's pumpkin pie. And from that angle, it almost
- 17:16Speaker 6: works because the Kit-Kat inside part actually kind of matches
- 17:19Speaker 6: up like a pie crust. And then you get a
- 17:22Speaker 6: little pumpkin flavor. It's probably a little too much pumpkin flavor, but,
- 17:24Speaker 6: you know, again, it's supposed to be pumpkin-flavored. Can you
- 17:28Speaker 6: bring it with us?
- 17:29Speaker 7: Can you bring a bag of candy?
- 17:30Speaker 6: It's going to be all melty in the car. You
- 17:32Speaker 6: know how that goes.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Oh, get this. Guess what I had a couple weeks ago.
- 17:35Speaker 6: All right.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I made a fucking pitcher of Kool-Aid. And it didn't
- 17:39Speaker 1: make me sick.
- 17:41Speaker 6: You survived the Kool-Aid.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Again. We still got packages of Kool-Aid from like, how
- 17:45Speaker 1: many years.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Ago was that?
- 17:46Speaker 7: I have no idea.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 17:49Speaker 7: We were out of tea.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We were out of tea. But we had bought like
- 17:51Speaker 1: a long time ago. It was like, holy shit, Kool-Aid.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So we bought up a bunch of it. And it's
- 17:56Speaker 1: been in my fridge, or in our fridge. It's been
- 17:58Speaker 1: stacked in our fridge in the condiments little drawer thing.
- 18:02Speaker 7: Hiding behind the McDonald's ketchups.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Hiding behind the McDonald's ketchups and the mini Taco Bell
- 18:06Speaker 1: sauce packets. You know that drawer.
- 18:11Speaker 7: Everybody's got that drawer.
- 18:14Speaker 6: I'm like, why do I have 14 soy sauces?
- 18:16Speaker 1: I don't know. But yeah, we didn't have any tea.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We ran out of tea, and I didn't want to
- 18:21Speaker 1: drink water.
- 18:21Speaker 7: Nobody wants to drink water.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And, you know, I was like, You know, we had
- 18:27Speaker 1: mango peach. I don't want mango peach. There's a reason
- 18:30Speaker 1: why mango peach is still in there, because it's one
- 18:32Speaker 1: of those, you know, when you go and you try
- 18:34Speaker 1: to grab, like, a variety of Kool-Aid, and you always
- 18:37Speaker 1: grab that one by accident.
- 18:39Speaker 6: How did this get in there?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like, oh, man, I didn't want to grab shit.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'll just drink that later. And then it ends up
- 18:45Speaker 1: in the back with the Kool-Aid. But for some reason,
- 18:49Speaker 1: last time, the Kool-Aid made me sick.
- 18:50Speaker 7: Maybe it had a bad sugar to Kool-Aid ratio.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, well, we went by your sugar ratio,
- 18:56Speaker 1: which was like three cups of sugar.
- 18:58Speaker 6: Mostly sugar.
- 18:58Speaker 1: A little bit of water. Yeah, I can't have that
- 19:01Speaker 1: much sugar. I think this time I just put like,
- 19:04Speaker 1: what did I put, one cup of sugar?
- 19:06Speaker 7: And we added some more.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:09Speaker 1: It tasted good this time. I drank it all up.
- 19:12Speaker 7: All right.
- 19:12Speaker 6: Follow the instructions, kid.
- 19:14Speaker 7: Drink it up, drink it up. Yum, yum, yum.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, she was like, should we drink this? Because it's like,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't know how old this is.
- 19:19Speaker 6: Like, it's powder.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It's powder, you know, and food coloring. It should be okay.
- 19:24Speaker 1: It's not really got a flavor to it.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I mean.
- 19:28Speaker 6: There's not much to it to go back, really.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a ghoul flavor.
- 19:30Speaker 7: Just ghoul.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I don't know what ghouls taste like.
- 19:32Speaker 6: Now you do.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Ghoul aid.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 1: They taste pretty good.
- 19:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Well, I guess you at home can go take a
- 19:40Speaker 6: break here and get yourself some pumpkin-flavored candy and ghoul aid.
- 19:44Speaker 7: And booter scotch. I don't know.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Can they find ghoul aid? Is it even out anymore?
- 19:47Speaker 6: I guess you better.
- 19:48Speaker 7: They still make, like, the little packs. Like, the little, uh...
- 19:51Speaker 7: Like the....
- 19:53Speaker 10: Squee.
- 19:53Speaker 7: Like the.
- 19:53Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 19:54Speaker 7: Like the... You know what I'm talking about.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 19:56Speaker 7: The little foil packs. Kind of like.
- 19:58Speaker 6: Capri Sun-like?
- 19:59Speaker 7: Yeah, kind of like those. What?
- 20:01Speaker 6: They make.
- 20:02Speaker 1: They make that, like... A Goulet.
- 20:03Speaker 7: Really? Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Like, Kool-Aid, but in packs? Like a Capri Sun?
- 20:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Seriously?
- 20:10Speaker 1: I've never seen that.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Your mind just blowed up, didn't it?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Well, you know, I didn't have, I mean, fuck, come on.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I didn't have Capri Sun, you know, that much when
- 20:19Speaker 1: I was growing up because I'd always see commercials for
- 20:21Speaker 1: it and all these kids were like, Fucking skateboarding.
- 20:24Speaker 6: It makes you skateboard better, obviously.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yeah, fucking skateboarding, playing basketball, and, like, waterboarding, and all
- 20:31Speaker 1: kinds of cool-ass shit.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Waterboarding.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, waterboarding. You were getting waterboarded with Capri Sun. God,
- 20:39Speaker 1: how bad did that be?
- 20:40Speaker 6: You tell me what I want to know, and I'll
- 20:41Speaker 6: give you a Capri Sun.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But, yeah, they were all, like, all these kids were
- 20:45Speaker 1: out doing all this cool shit, you know, and they're friends,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and they're, like, hanging out, and they're like, yeah, Capri Sun,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, and I was like, oh, man, I want
- 20:52Speaker 1: some Capri Sun. My parents were always like, you don't
- 20:54Speaker 1: need that shit, you know.
- 20:56Speaker 7: They didn't cuss.
- 20:56Speaker 1: They didn't cuss, but they were like, you don't need that.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That's sugar, and sugar's bad for you. And so you
- 21:02Speaker 1: drink water. You drink water.
- 21:05Speaker 7: You share.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and I didn't have any friends because there wasn't
- 21:08Speaker 1: anybody around us. We lived out in the middle of nowhere.
- 21:10Speaker 1: So it was me with a Ziploc bag and some water,
- 21:14Speaker 1: pretending like.
- 21:15Speaker 6: I took a free side.
- 21:16Speaker 11: I'm cool.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm cool.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Did you have a straw into it?
- 21:19Speaker 1: We didn't have straws either.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Just sipping out of a Ziploc.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, bite the bag. That sucked.
- 21:27Speaker 6: That's pretty sad, actually.
- 21:29Speaker 1: My childhood kind of sucked in a way.
- 21:32Speaker 6: In a way.
- 21:34Speaker 1: In all the ways. My parents were always like, you
- 21:36Speaker 1: don't need that. You don't need that. It's like, we
- 21:42Speaker 1: weren't poor growing up.
- 21:44Speaker 6: They just acted like you were.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You wouldn't have known growing up because it was one
- 21:49Speaker 1: of those, my parents shopped at Value City and Scratching it?
- 21:53Speaker 6: And scratching it. Nah.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But, I mean, for me, for, like, school clothes or
- 21:57Speaker 1: thrift store or stuff like that.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Dude, Value City was the bomb.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Not when I was a kid. When I was a kid,
- 22:03Speaker 1: Value City was full of irregular stuff and mismatched and misprints.
- 22:07Speaker 7: It was a perfect fit for me.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Now we're just talking about the customers.
- 22:11Speaker 1: It wasn't a perfect fit for me, you know.
- 22:14Speaker 7: I'm irregular and a misfit.
- 22:15Speaker 8: Well.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Indented.
- 22:16Speaker 7: A little bit indented.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Indented.
- 22:19Speaker 7: But.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, then my kid came along when I had my kid.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And then my parents go out of the way to
- 22:24Speaker 1: give her everything. Straws. You want a straw?
- 22:27Speaker 6: Yeah, my kid gets straws.
- 22:28Speaker 1: My kid gets Capri Sun.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Fancy living. Shit, we got straws.
- 22:32Speaker 1: When I was a kid, I couldn't have straws.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Were they bendy straws? Because that is fancy.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they were fucking bendy straws.
- 22:38Speaker 6: That is fancy.
- 22:38Speaker 1: And my kid needs a fucking straw for everything. She
- 22:41Speaker 1: goes over there and she grabs a straw. I'm like,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you don't need no damn straw. And she's like, it's
- 22:44Speaker 1: a bendy straw. And I'm like, you don't need fucking straws.
- 22:50Speaker 7: We had the crazy straws. Oh, swirly straws.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I always wanted one of those.
- 22:55Speaker 7: I had so many of those. I had so many
- 22:58Speaker 7: of those.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd see kids with those on TV, and I
- 23:00Speaker 1: was like, oh, man, I want one of those.
- 23:01Speaker 6: See, the downside was you'd drink out of that once,
- 23:03Speaker 6: and then it'd get all gross and gunked up, and
- 23:06Speaker 6: you'd have to continually hose it out and actually take
- 23:08Speaker 6: care of it, which most kids don't want to take
- 23:10Speaker 6: care of anything. It was too much effort for them.
- 23:13Speaker 3: It's a sad thing.
- 23:15Speaker 7: Those were good times. My childhood was so much better
- 23:16Speaker 7: than yours.
- 23:17Speaker 1: It was.
- 23:18Speaker 7: I had crazy straws.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Mine mostly consisted of work.
- 23:21Speaker 6: And waterboarding.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Waterboarding would have been great.
- 23:26Speaker 7: I had the straw that was also the glasses.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Oh, you're out of control now.
- 23:31Speaker 7: That was so much work.
- 23:32Speaker 6: You're living like Pee Wee's Playhouse World now.
- 23:35Speaker 7: That was so much work. But now you get a.
- 23:39Speaker 6: Aneurysm on the way to your drink. Just wanted some cool, hey,
- 23:44Speaker 6: damn it.
- 23:45Speaker 7: We had the kind that you could make your own design.
- 23:47Speaker 7: Connector pieces. What? We were highfalutin. Highfalutin. Shit.
- 23:54Speaker 3: You're fancy.
- 23:54Speaker 7: You know, talking about connector pieces and you had right
- 23:56Speaker 7: angles and swirls.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I didn't know they had that shit.
- 24:00Speaker 7: My grandma was awesome.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I know your grandma was awesome.
- 24:04Speaker 6: She was pretty cool. Spoiling those damn kids.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It's like, you know, summertime, kids are out playing and
- 24:10Speaker 1: having fun and shit like that. I was like, Here's
- 24:13Speaker 1: a bucket. Now go pick up rocks. Don't come back
- 24:16Speaker 1: until that bucket's full.
- 24:18Speaker 6: Wax on, wax off.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 1: All that kind of shit.
- 24:21Speaker 7: I had to plant a garden.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Digging ditches and watering trees and shit. And it sucked
- 24:26Speaker 1: because we had trees everywhere and they all had to
- 24:29Speaker 1: get one five gallon bucket of water each. Jesus.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:33Speaker 1: And a little kid and it was like 15 acres
- 24:37Speaker 1: of land which really isn't that much but I mean
- 24:39Speaker 1: when you're a kid it's a lot.
- 24:40Speaker 11: It's a squirrel.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But It was like each tree, and we had like
- 24:43Speaker 1: a shit ton of trees too, but each tree got
- 24:45Speaker 1: a five gallon bucket of water. So you can imagine
- 24:48Speaker 1: as a kid, like I was probably 10 or 11,
- 24:50Speaker 1: trying to carry two five gallon buckets of water, which
- 24:54Speaker 1: is fucking impossible for a little kid to do. You know,
- 24:57Speaker 1: even with a stick.
- 24:58Speaker 7: We had a wheelbarrow and we had to do our
- 25:00Speaker 7: five to go.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Oh no, I wasn't allowed to use a wheelbarrow.
- 25:03Speaker 7: When we dug our pool that we got in trouble for.
- 25:05Speaker 1: You sure you weren't on a chain gang? It was
- 25:08Speaker 1: about that way, you know. I'm telling you, the guy
- 25:11Speaker 1: that was my dad was a fucking asshole.
- 25:15Speaker 7: And this cheerful episode of Moving Out Down brought to
- 25:17Speaker 7: you by My Childhood Was Better Than Jay's.
- 25:20Speaker 6: I was just trying to encourage you to go get
- 25:22Speaker 6: some Goulet and have yourself a pumpkin-flavored piece of candy.
- 25:26Speaker 1: And they want to know why I'm so fucking irresponsible nowadays.
- 25:28Speaker 8: That's why.
- 25:32Speaker 7: Booter Scratch M & M' s. Did I mention those too?
- 25:34Speaker 7: I keep trying to mention the Booter Scratch.
- 25:35Speaker 6: You keep trying to get them in.
- 25:36Speaker 7: But nobody wants to listen.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Like you're getting kickbacks from M & M' s.
- 25:39Speaker 7: Booter Scratch.
- 25:39Speaker 6: If M & M Mars is sending you a check
- 25:41Speaker 6: for this, I want a piece of it.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Is he wearing a tunic? Chainmail?
- 25:44Speaker 6: Fuck yeah!
- 25:46Speaker 1: Night's the round table. Okay, enough of my fucking shit.
- 25:54Speaker 6: So you go get yourself a Goulet and some candy.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 7: And with a bendy straw.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm going to set some shit on fire.
- 25:59Speaker 6: And we will be back with this week's guest and
- 26:02Speaker 6: the movie.
- 26:03Speaker 1: That was just sad.

- 28:41Speaker 4: What?
- 28:41Speaker 1: We're broke.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Yeah, we definitely, I'm pulling up, turning my pockets out
- 28:46Speaker 6: right now.

- 29:13Speaker 6: like I do. Yeah, you need our commentary to figure
- 29:16Speaker 6: out what to watch on Netflix. I think so. It's
- 29:19Speaker 6: like a companion piece to all your Amazons and Netflixes

- 30:30Speaker 9: From ancient Genesis to the modern screen, the name.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Written in blood, Eagle! Eagle!
- 30:49Speaker 4: The last of the prehistoric giants sees his first girl, Noah.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Hear Iga talk, the ancient language of love used at
- 31:00Speaker 4: the beginning of time.
- 31:01Speaker 8: Hi, I'm Richard Keel, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 31:06Speaker 4: See Iga.
- 31:07Speaker 12: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 31:14Speaker 12: enough movies.
- 31:14Speaker 1: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Now, on with the show.
- 31:28Speaker 6: So this week, I'm glad to sit down with our
- 31:30Speaker 6: very special guest co-host for this segment, Bill Corbett. Bill
- 31:34Speaker 6: is a writer, an actor, and eventually a reluctant puppeteer.
- 31:39Speaker 6: And yes, many of you know Bill from Riff Trax,
- 31:41Speaker 6: and before that, I'm sure even more of you know
- 31:43Speaker 6: him from Mystery Science Theater 3000. Where amongst being a
- 31:47Speaker 6: writer for the show, and eventually playing the Observer, he
- 31:50Speaker 6: is still probably most notably, and certainly most impressively to
- 31:54Speaker 6: geeks everywhere, known for playing Crow T. Robot. Well, Crow 2.0
- 31:58Speaker 6: that is, but we'll get to that soon enough. As
- 32:01Speaker 6: we get into this segment, and you know me, Since
- 32:04Speaker 6: I am the creator of the Caffeinated Movie Geek, it
- 32:06Speaker 6: should come as no surprise that as I head into
- 32:09Speaker 6: town today, I'm going to stop and get my coffee. But,
- 32:12Speaker 6: in addition, as often as I can when I hit
- 32:15Speaker 6: this area, I try to stop into one of my
- 32:17Speaker 6: favorite donut shops. And this week is no exception. So
- 32:21Speaker 6: it should be right at home, in the middle of
- 32:23Speaker 6: all our talk of seasonal foods and other pumpkin-infused delicacies,
- 32:27Speaker 6: that I not only come in toady my coffee, but
- 32:30Speaker 6: also donuts. But hey, what kind of a host would
- 32:33Speaker 6: I be... if I didn't bring enough for my guest.
- 32:35Speaker 6: So let's go now as we sit down with Bill
- 32:37Speaker 6: for the presentation of the donuts. So I did plan
- 32:44Speaker 6: ahead and bring paper towels, but we have multiple options.
- 32:48Speaker 6: You can pick whichever you want. There's two regular glazed,
- 32:56Speaker 6: one chocolate glazed, and there's one that is a maple
- 33:00Speaker 6: pumpkin spice. Since we're in October now, I.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Think I'll take a regular glaze.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Regular glaze. So if you're not claiming this pumpkin win,
- 33:10Speaker 6: I am all over it.
- 33:14Speaker 10: Got donuts.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Got the coffee.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Time for our new segment, Coffee with Crow. Discussing the
- 33:20Speaker 6: world events today from his point of view. Usually I just,
- 33:26Speaker 6: that's kind of one of my favorite things as time's
- 33:28Speaker 6: gone on is finding out kind of more about people
- 33:31Speaker 6: as they were kids and then kind of what led
- 33:33Speaker 6: them to where they ended up in the industry. So what,
- 33:38Speaker 6: what was your description of yourself as a kid? Donuts.
- 33:46Speaker 6: I knew that going in, but you can't turn down donuts.
- 33:50Speaker 1: All right.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Now that I've finished with my donut, my description of
- 33:52Speaker 2: myself as a kid, um, boy, I don't know. I
- 33:56Speaker 2: grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Um, So I had
- 34:00Speaker 2: this sort of squirrely energy of a kid with probably
- 34:03Speaker 2: not enough space to run around in.
- 34:09Speaker 6: Tight quarters kind of?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Sort of tight quarters. I mean, we were in a
- 34:18Speaker 2: row house on a block. Not a terrible neighborhood, but
- 34:23Speaker 2: when we wanted to play a game of stickball or baseball...
- 34:27Speaker 2: we would actually hear like, go in front of your
- 34:29Speaker 2: own house, which was, you know, about seven feet across.
- 34:32Speaker 2: So there really wasn't a lot of room to play baseball.
- 34:35Speaker 6: A little like foot and a half front yard. Yeah.
- 34:39Speaker 2: So, but, you know, imaginative, I think. A little neurotic
- 34:44Speaker 2: and trying to find my way out of the, you know,
- 34:51Speaker 2: the sort of weird strictures of my culture at the time,
- 34:54Speaker 2: which was almost like, trapped in time in the 1950s
- 34:57Speaker 2: yeah there's a there's a moment in the sopranos where
- 35:00Speaker 2: tony tells meadow um yeah out there it's the 2000s
- 35:05Speaker 2: in here it's still 1950 so that's kind of what
- 35:08Speaker 2: it felt like you.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Get into those little areas that are still kind of
- 35:12Speaker 6: their own little world.
- 35:13Speaker 2: And yeah italian irish catholic you know very uh i.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Feel like we'll jump to later i'll come back to
- 35:19Speaker 6: that point but yeah i Yeah, you get those... That
- 35:22Speaker 6: little neighborhood kind of runs itself in its own way,
- 35:25Speaker 6: by its own rules.
- 35:26Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 35:27Speaker 6: Well, then, I guess, as you were growing up, again,
- 35:31Speaker 6: now knowing where you ended up and where most of
- 35:34Speaker 6: us listening to this, I'm sure, had a lot of
- 35:36Speaker 6: those same interests, what was it that you were drawn
- 35:39Speaker 6: to in the beginning? Was it film in the beginning
- 35:42Speaker 6: or just performance? And then, if so, what types of films?
- 35:48Speaker 2: I think it was... theater and writing especially writing in
- 35:52Speaker 2: general and when i had a couple of cool teachers
- 35:55Speaker 2: who would give us like um somewhat theatrical uh writing
- 36:02Speaker 2: assignments like i remember a really cool teacher in sixth
- 36:05Speaker 2: grade who said you know we're talking about dialect this
- 36:10Speaker 2: week and regional dialects and like do a write a
- 36:13Speaker 2: skit that kind of illustrates some aspect of that and
- 36:16Speaker 2: get one or more dialects trying to communicate with each other.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah. Yeah. So that is where I
- 36:24Speaker 2: started to realize I love scripting things. I love writing.
- 36:29Speaker 2: And that kind of led to theater. And I went
- 36:32Speaker 2: to an all boys high school. And the high school
- 36:34Speaker 2: play and musical was one of the rare times to
- 36:37Speaker 2: meet girls.
- 36:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I remember that world. And, yeah, it was always
- 36:42Speaker 6: odd that, like, you had to go out to another
- 36:44Speaker 6: school to recruit for it.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 6: That or you go by kabuki rules and everyone has
- 36:48Speaker 6: to just put on wigs. But, yeah, I remember that
- 36:52Speaker 6: being kind of weird. It's like, wait, there's girls here
- 36:54Speaker 6: for a day?
- 36:54Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 2: It's a combination of sort of liking the work and
- 36:58Speaker 2: the creativity and just, like, The need to address the
- 37:02Speaker 2: lack of girls in my vicinity was very.
- 37:05Speaker 6: That's a very strong drive.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Potent combination.
- 37:07Speaker 6: Especially at that point. So then I guess, what was
- 37:11Speaker 6: your first sort of exposure to film where it sort
- 37:13Speaker 6: of stuck and you were like, eh, something about this
- 37:17Speaker 6: agrees with me.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Oh man, I don't know. I guess I always loved movies,
- 37:20Speaker 2: but I never thought that I could have anything to
- 37:23Speaker 2: do with them one way or another because it just
- 37:25Speaker 2: seemed like such a removed world.
- 37:29Speaker 6: I think That's, again, the way so many fans feel,
- 37:32Speaker 6: and it's interesting how you guys found almost the perfect way.
- 37:36Speaker 6: You did sort of force yourself into the movie world
- 37:39Speaker 6: from the outset, literally sitting on the screen in front
- 37:42Speaker 6: of it, jamming yourself into the movie.
- 37:44Speaker 2: That's right. We kind of wedged ourselves between the viewer
- 37:49Speaker 2: and the movie.
- 37:51Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I think my list of movies that really caught my
- 37:55Speaker 2: attention when I was young are pretty... Maybe boilerplate. I
- 37:59Speaker 2: remember seeing The Graduate for the first time and feeling like, oh,
- 38:07Speaker 2: that's sort of a vocabulary I don't understand, but I
- 38:10Speaker 2: love it.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Different level of film than some of the other stuff.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Of the time.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And of course, all the Godfather movies. Well, the first two.
- 38:17Speaker 8: Oh, no.
- 38:18Speaker 6: We all love the third one.
- 38:23Speaker 2: And just, yeah, and then Little Thief. Things that were
- 38:27Speaker 2: not as mainstream like Billy Jack, which I talk about
- 38:32Speaker 2: often as a movie that I just adored as a kid. And,
- 38:36Speaker 2: you know, later on I went back to it and
- 38:38Speaker 2: was like, ooh, this is really cheesy.
- 38:40Speaker 6: I remember it by reputation and just in the last
- 38:43Speaker 6: two or three years went back and sat down to
- 38:45Speaker 6: watch it. And it's long. It's long. The good scenes
- 38:50Speaker 6: are still great.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 6: But there's so much of the, like, I'm like, did
- 38:53Speaker 6: you just turn the camera on at this point? acting
- 38:55Speaker 6: troupe and like there's just minutes and minutes of them performing.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah well the improv troupe from that school and one
- 39:02Speaker 2: of them is Howard Hessman it's so weird you know.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Young Howard Hessman still not that young Howard Hessman somehow
- 39:09Speaker 6: he still kind of.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Looked 40 he was 40 and then later he was
- 39:13Speaker 2: 42 30 years later somehow.
- 39:16Speaker 6: But yeah that's another one of those that's interesting to
- 39:18Speaker 6: revisit and that snapshot into that time and place.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Well and then I got so into it I mean,
- 39:25Speaker 2: I think I did a little stage piece about this one.
- 39:30Speaker 2: So it was the combination of martial arts, which I
- 39:36Speaker 2: loved at the time, and martial arts stuff. And now
- 39:39Speaker 2: you go back and look at the martial arts, and
- 39:41Speaker 2: it's like, wow, it's so awkward and clunky compared to
- 39:46Speaker 2: what was to come later.
- 39:47Speaker 6: Again, jamming it into... a white guy in a Native
- 39:51Speaker 6: American scene, like all these other things that aren't really
- 39:54Speaker 6: the normal home for martial arts anyway.
- 39:57Speaker 2: His Native American mysticism and all his social justice stuff
- 40:01Speaker 2: was like, wow, you get to be a good guy
- 40:03Speaker 2: and kick ass? It's just fantastic.
- 40:06Speaker 6: You don't get surrounded by that many hippies and then
- 40:08Speaker 6: get to kick people in the face, usually. So this
- 40:11Speaker 6: is great.
- 40:12Speaker 2: And then I discovered that there was a prequel to that.
- 40:14Speaker 2: There was a more standard biker film with the same character,
- 40:19Speaker 2: and then, of course, the two sequels.
- 40:21Speaker 6: The many, many incarnations of him as time went on.
- 40:24Speaker 6: They kept trying to bring it back in those last
- 40:26Speaker 6: few days.
- 40:26Speaker 2: They did to the very last days of his life.
- 40:29Speaker 6: It's like Billy Jack for president and everything else along
- 40:33Speaker 6: the way.
- 40:33Speaker 2: I have a weird little story about that. Tom Laughlin,
- 40:36Speaker 2: I went to graduate school for screenwriting and playwriting, and
- 40:41Speaker 2: one day a professor said, we're bringing in this guy,
- 40:44Speaker 2: and I didn't catch his name. who is, like, all
- 40:47Speaker 2: expert in Jungian storytelling. So we were listening to him
- 40:51Speaker 2: for a while, and I thought, oh, what a bore.
- 40:53Speaker 2: This guy, like, he read one book on Jung, and
- 40:56Speaker 2: he thinks he knows everything. And as I looked closer,
- 40:59Speaker 2: I was like, oh, my God, that's Billy Jack.
- 41:00Speaker 6: That's Billy Jack.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And he just, you know, his age progressed to Billy Jack.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I was starting to argue with him, but then I
- 41:06Speaker 2: was like, he's going to jump over the table and
- 41:08Speaker 2: chop me in the throat.
- 41:10Speaker 6: He will take his shoes off and kick.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Me in the head.
- 41:12Speaker 2: I just go berserk.
- 41:15Speaker 6: Yeah, he continued to be a strange character.
- 41:17Speaker 2: He was very weird. He really, yeah. He kept it
- 41:22Speaker 2: really tight in the family. That family was like, that's
- 41:25Speaker 2: why the movies don't look so good because they really
- 41:29Speaker 2: never learned how to make a film.
- 41:31Speaker 6: And again, he seemed like he was very committed and
- 41:33Speaker 6: passionate about what he wanted to do, but just not
- 41:35Speaker 6: worried about all those other details. Just focused on the agenda.
- 41:39Speaker 2: He thought he could cure cancer too or something like that.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Kicking people in the head cures cancer. So yeah, I mean,
- 41:47Speaker 6: I guess just sort of drawn to that type of
- 41:50Speaker 6: stuff at the time and then getting into that, that
- 41:52Speaker 6: was into the performance aspect of it. Was that, because
- 41:57Speaker 6: as we were coming up here, I was discussing what
- 41:58Speaker 6: I'd just done was sat down with John Carroll Lynch.
- 42:02Speaker 6: Was that around that same time that you ended up
- 42:04Speaker 6: going into school or was that after college?
- 42:07Speaker 2: That was after college and grad school. school i went
- 42:11Speaker 2: i was into uh playwriting mostly and acting and i
- 42:15Speaker 2: um got a like i guess i would call it
- 42:17Speaker 2: a fellowship to write plays and sort of teach in
- 42:21Speaker 2: minnesota and i'd never been there before um so i
- 42:25Speaker 2: flew there and i knew i was going to spend
- 42:26Speaker 2: at least a year there doing this fellowship and um
- 42:31Speaker 2: i eventually started acting at the guthrie theater there which
- 42:34Speaker 2: is a big regional theater and that's where i met
- 42:36Speaker 2: john carroll lynch he was my uh my dressing roommate,
- 42:41Speaker 2: I guess for a little while.
- 42:42Speaker 6: Just odd timing since I just spoke to him.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah. That's interesting.
- 42:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:47Speaker 2: And then when, you know, when he got the part
- 42:48Speaker 2: in Fargo, I was just so thrilled for him and
- 42:51Speaker 2: he was so perfect. Um, amazing. And he's had a
- 42:54Speaker 2: great career since.
- 42:55Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:56Speaker 6: And continue. And even moving into directing now, it's, it's interesting. Is,
- 43:02Speaker 6: is that something that interests you since you were so
- 43:05Speaker 6: like hardcore writing is directing something that, Has ever really appealed?
- 43:09Speaker 2: You know, I've directed a lot of stuff on stage,
- 43:11Speaker 2: and I guess theoretically, yeah, but I think I would
- 43:14Speaker 2: have had to embark on that path a long time
- 43:17Speaker 2: ago to, you know.
- 43:18Speaker 6: John just got there. Never know.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Yeah. And then it was after that, and I was
- 43:26Speaker 2: teaching classes in writing there for a while, and that's
- 43:32Speaker 2: when I hooked up with the Mystery Science Theater guys.
- 43:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Because I was in sort of the writing and comedy
- 43:39Speaker 2: and theater scene and met them all.
- 43:42Speaker 6: How important is the, because this is an ongoing question
- 43:45Speaker 6: I have for people, because there's so many that just
- 43:47Speaker 6: take it upon themselves. I want to be in film.
- 43:50Speaker 6: I want to be an actor and just go do it.
- 43:53Speaker 3: And then there are.
- 43:53Speaker 6: People that will devote years and years of their life
- 43:56Speaker 6: to study. Since you spent so much time in study,
- 44:00Speaker 6: how do you think that affected you as then you
- 44:02Speaker 6: were sort of thrust into some sort of, different type
- 44:06Speaker 6: of performance mode there.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Well, you know, I, I, I didn't really spend that.
- 44:11Speaker 2: I did go to grad school, but before that I
- 44:13Speaker 2: had really not been a, I hadn't been a theater major.
- 44:16Speaker 2: I was vaguely sort of, uh, preparing for, uh, to
- 44:21Speaker 2: be a lawyer. Yeah. Just cause I had to tell
- 44:23Speaker 2: my parents something respectable.
- 44:24Speaker 6: Uh, that's the fallback for a lot of people too.
- 44:27Speaker 2: But I was doing a lot of theater in college
- 44:29Speaker 2: and then I kind of, you know, spent four years
- 44:32Speaker 2: in New York doing it and, putting on little plays
- 44:35Speaker 2: and stuff um but yeah i'd always i'd always sort
- 44:40Speaker 2: of gravitated towards uh comedy in my plays and i
- 44:44Speaker 2: know a couple of the mystery science theater people saw
- 44:47Speaker 2: some of my stuff and knew that i was into
- 44:50Speaker 2: it and i just kind of connected with them at
- 44:52Speaker 2: least two of the writers there took a class from
- 44:55Speaker 2: me you know suckers and look what happened uh And then,
- 45:01Speaker 2: you know, they needed writers, and I just sat in
- 45:04Speaker 2: with them for a while, and it kind of seemed
- 45:06Speaker 2: to be a good match.
- 45:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 45:08Speaker 2: And then eventually they handed me a puppet.
- 45:10Speaker 6: Had you been interested in puppets before that?
- 45:13Speaker 2: No, not at all. But I was interested in the show.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I loved the show. I loved its sense of humor,
- 45:20Speaker 2: its smartness, and, you know, its deftness, just sort of
- 45:23Speaker 2: like toggling between all kinds of things.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 2: So, yeah, when they asked me to audition with Crow
- 45:29Speaker 2: when Trace was leaving, I was a little daunted. I
- 45:33Speaker 2: was just like, I don't know if I can, like,
- 45:36Speaker 2: he's really good with that puppet.
- 45:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:38Speaker 2: And I was not at first. And then eventually you
- 45:40Speaker 2: just sort of learn on the job. But the elapsed
- 45:43Speaker 2: time between me auditioning, me getting the part and me
- 45:48Speaker 2: going in front of the camera was just like three days.
- 45:50Speaker 7: Wow.
- 45:51Speaker 2: And it shows. It shows. Yeah. suddenly Crow looks, you know,
- 45:56Speaker 2: lifeless where he used to look, you.
- 45:58Speaker 6: Know, it kind of still works.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Yeah. It's, it's, I don't know. But eventually it all
- 46:03Speaker 2: factors in. Yeah.
- 46:04Speaker 6: But how much of the, the characters were there to
- 46:10Speaker 6: begin with? And then how much became you two guys performing?
- 46:14Speaker 6: Because I feel like as viewers, you know, I always
- 46:16Speaker 6: talk to people and they always seem like they lean
- 46:19Speaker 6: one way or the other. Like they're, I'm, you know,
- 46:20Speaker 6: team Tom and I'm team Crow. Like, So how much
- 46:24Speaker 6: of it became you two guys creating those characters more
- 46:27Speaker 6: and more as you did it longer?
- 46:29Speaker 2: I think that was just inevitable that that happened. It
- 46:33Speaker 2: wasn't necessarily something any of us aimed for, but it
- 46:38Speaker 2: was heavily informed by the writing on the show, of course,
- 46:41Speaker 2: which was great and predated me as being great. And
- 46:45Speaker 2: so I was in really good hands as far as
- 46:48Speaker 2: material goes. And I think the one... Besides learning how
- 46:52Speaker 2: to technically operate the puppet to be a little more
- 46:55Speaker 2: like a little actor, eventually I stopped trying to imitate
- 47:01Speaker 2: Trace's voice so much. And we're not so far apart,
- 47:05Speaker 2: but it's enough so that if I try to sound
- 47:06Speaker 2: like him, it sounds a little less natural. And Mike
- 47:10Speaker 2: and Kevin basically said, you can let that go and
- 47:12Speaker 2: just be funny on your own terms. Yeah. That's when
- 47:15Speaker 2: I think he started sounding a little more New York-y,
- 47:18Speaker 2: and people were like, oh, he's turned mean.
- 47:20Speaker 3: It's like, well.
- 47:22Speaker 2: That's your association with New York, huh?
- 47:24Speaker 6: I think, I don't know. It was, yeah, I always
- 47:26Speaker 6: connected more with Crow. Just watching it, I was like,
- 47:29Speaker 6: his smart-ass comments matched a little closer to my smart-ass comments.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Tom Servo, especially through Kevin Murphy, was hilarious because Kevin
- 47:38Speaker 2: is a really large guy, and Servo's a little fireplug.
- 47:44Speaker 2: And so you had this sort of big barrel chested
- 47:47Speaker 2: voice coming out of this little guy who was all
- 47:49Speaker 2: puffed up about himself. So I think that just worked
- 47:52Speaker 2: so well.
- 47:54Speaker 6: It's a great, yeah, it's a great dynamic what those
- 47:56Speaker 6: two characters became. And then that, that, I think that's
- 48:00Speaker 6: the thing that's become so amazing over the years. And
- 48:02Speaker 6: I'm assuming you've seen it time and time again, like
- 48:05Speaker 6: how connected people got to not just those characters, but, but,
- 48:10Speaker 6: you know, Joel and Mike and like the entire process
- 48:13Speaker 6: because it, Because the way it's set up, it's not
- 48:16Speaker 6: just sitting down and watching a movie. It's for people
- 48:19Speaker 6: who didn't have any friends to sit down and watch
- 48:21Speaker 6: a movie with. And it gave you this weird little community,
- 48:24Speaker 6: even if it was one-sided. Like, it gave you, like,
- 48:27Speaker 6: you weren't sitting there by yourself making fun of things.
- 48:30Speaker 6: It is a weird connection that, like, I don't know
- 48:32Speaker 6: if things had done before. Especially not sitting at home
- 48:36Speaker 6: doing it like that.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a real, I don't know, kismet of timing,
- 48:42Speaker 2: that show. And a whole... bunch of different ways like
- 48:44Speaker 2: the cable the way cable tv was working at the
- 48:48Speaker 2: time there was a real need for a certain block
- 48:52Speaker 2: of programming to be filled yeah i mean this was
- 48:54Speaker 2: a little cable access show from outside of minneapolis and
- 48:59Speaker 2: it became a national phenomenon which is just and and
- 49:02Speaker 2: then the the internet was kind of starting to churn
- 49:05Speaker 2: up so all the nerds were in contact with each
- 49:08Speaker 2: other suddenly yeah And I say that lovingly because without them,
- 49:12Speaker 2: we wouldn't be. And so it was great. So, yeah,
- 49:19Speaker 2: it was very cool. And we have amazing fans that
- 49:22Speaker 2: still kind of are around and sustain our different projects. And,
- 49:28Speaker 2: you know, we get to meet with them and they're
- 49:30Speaker 2: really awesome people.
- 49:31Speaker 6: It did create a weird... family kind of thing that
- 49:35Speaker 6: even you know even without you guys involved when somebody
- 49:38Speaker 6: who's into mystery science theater runs into somebody else and
- 49:40Speaker 6: you find that thing in common it's just this instant
- 49:44Speaker 6: connection that like you have this like years and years
- 49:47Speaker 6: of history together kind of even though you may have
- 49:50Speaker 6: been on different ends of the country yeah it's just
- 49:53Speaker 6: a weird fandom connection that that i think is pretty
- 49:56Speaker 6: great but well that's that's part of what i think
- 49:59Speaker 6: has become i feel like even as silly as you
- 50:02Speaker 6: guys would take it sometimes, I think it also was
- 50:05Speaker 6: sort of that green light of discussing film is not,
- 50:10Speaker 6: not a waste of time. Like I think even for, for,
- 50:12Speaker 6: for comedy purposes, it still makes it, it gives it
- 50:16Speaker 6: sort of a bigger, a bigger realm. It makes it
- 50:19Speaker 6: sort of an important thing. So that's, as I've gone
- 50:22Speaker 6: on with this, I felt like that's, that's kind of
- 50:25Speaker 6: important is just the discussions that we get into and
- 50:28Speaker 6: the people you run into and the different, perspectives that
- 50:32Speaker 6: you get from people just discussing films so again i
- 50:35Speaker 6: think part of it is kind of rooted in that
- 50:37Speaker 6: too so with that we can go to the movie if.
- 50:40Speaker 3: You'd like it's time for sofa theater.
- 51:06Speaker 6: What is that, cuz?
- 51:07Speaker 3: That's an alien, bruv.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Believe it.
- 51:09Speaker 7: When I landed in the wrong place, though, you get
- 51:10Speaker 7: the wrong place.
- 51:13Speaker 9: Well, lads, we discovered a species hitherto unknown to science.
- 51:17Speaker 2: He kicked his head in.
- 51:20Speaker 11: Yo, check it.
- 51:21Speaker 7: Morph. Morph what?
- 51:22Speaker 2: Them tings.
- 51:23Speaker 6: Lovely fireworks.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Mommy, it's an alien invasion.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Of course it is.
- 51:27Speaker 11: I'm killing them.
- 51:28Speaker 6: I'm killing them straight. Let's get tooled up, lads.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Quite sweet, really, aren't they?
- 51:36Speaker 7: That looks triple disaster. Right now, I feel like going home,
- 51:40Speaker 7: locking my door, and playing FIFA.
- 51:42Speaker 6: What were those things?
- 51:43Speaker 2: I'm thinking probably aliens.
- 51:46Speaker 6: What kind of alien would invade some council estate in
- 51:49Speaker 6: South London?
- 51:51Speaker 1: One that's looking for a fight.
- 51:58Speaker 8: What is that?
- 52:06Speaker 2: I'm getting lessons for Christmas.
- 52:08Speaker 10: I've got no credit.
- 52:10Speaker 2: I've got one text left.
- 52:10Speaker 4: This is too much madness to explain in one text.
- 52:15Speaker 8: You have to call the police.
- 52:17Speaker 7: You'd be better off calling the Ghostbusters, love.
- 52:21Speaker 6: What's wrong with you, man? You've got tools.
- 52:23Speaker 7: Jesus, he looks about six. I'm nine and a half.
- 52:26Speaker 6: We need to get off the streets, back in the block.
- 52:43Speaker 7: Good luck.
- 52:43Speaker 11: Run away, run away.
- 52:43Speaker 4: I'll attack.
- 52:44Speaker 5: Run away, run away.
- 52:45Speaker 3: You'll change yourself.
- 52:45Speaker 7: Run away, run away.
- 52:48Speaker 11: I'll attack, I'll attack, I'll attack, I'll attack. Run away,
- 53:11Speaker 11: run away.
- 53:30Speaker 6: I do kind of like to get other people to
- 53:33Speaker 6: choose films and see what you like and then what
- 53:36Speaker 6: you like about it. And I've got the little rundown
- 53:39Speaker 6: here for this week's film. All right, so this week's
- 53:42Speaker 6: Sofa Theater feature is Attack the Block. The year is 2011.
- 53:45Speaker 6: The director is Joe Cornish, and the plot, according to IMDb,
- 53:50Speaker 6: and for once is simple and very accurate. Normally it's
- 53:54Speaker 6: way off, but this one's super simple and accurate. A
- 53:57Speaker 6: teen gang in South London defend their block from an
- 53:59Speaker 6: alien invasion. I don't think you can get more direct
- 54:02Speaker 6: than that one, so.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's right on the money.
- 54:05Speaker 6: Spoiler alert, I am sure we will ruin this for you.
- 54:08Speaker 6: I would hope by now you've seen it. If not,
- 54:10Speaker 6: go watch it, so. That having been said, what led
- 54:14Speaker 6: you to this movie? What connected you to it enough
- 54:18Speaker 6: to be like, that's the one I want to talk about?
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember it taking me by surprise when it
- 54:23Speaker 2: came out. And I just heard a couple of friends
- 54:28Speaker 2: of mine recommend it just very enthusiastically. I didn't see
- 54:33Speaker 2: a lot of hype for it anywhere. It seemed like
- 54:34Speaker 2: you had to really look for it. And I loved it.
- 54:38Speaker 2: And I think it is connected to that IMDb description
- 54:41Speaker 2: in a way. It is really tight.
- 54:43Speaker 6: I think the thing that I was trying to think
- 54:46Speaker 6: how I first remembered it, and I think the first
- 54:48Speaker 6: thing I remembered was the Nick Frost connection. Because I
- 54:51Speaker 6: think it was coming off that wave of all the
- 54:56Speaker 6: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost projects. And so I think just
- 55:00Speaker 6: that he was involved, but it was initially like, well,
- 55:03Speaker 6: Simon Pegg's not in this. So it was almost getting
- 55:06Speaker 6: this backhanded, like, well, it looks really cool, but Simon
- 55:09Speaker 6: Pegg's not involved. So I kind of remember hearing that
- 55:12Speaker 6: almost immediately. It's like, well, this is this thing that
- 55:14Speaker 6: Nick Frost is in. And then barely heard the plot, really.
- 55:18Speaker 6: It was just kind of like knowing that this was
- 55:21Speaker 6: part of the... thing that probably also got it you
- 55:24Speaker 6: know bankrolled and got it going was he was certainly
- 55:26Speaker 6: the most maybe at the time only recognizable person in
- 55:30Speaker 6: the movie so it's yeah I think that kind of
- 55:33Speaker 6: kind of got it rolling and maybe made a few
- 55:35Speaker 6: because that's again what I think made it stick in
- 55:38Speaker 6: my head that I went later and went oh I
- 55:40Speaker 6: do need to see that I remember hearing about that
- 55:42Speaker 6: one so.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Yeah I think when it was recommended to me that
- 55:45Speaker 2: Nick Frost was the only element in it that I
- 55:48Speaker 2: had heard of in any way um but Interestingly, since then,
- 55:53Speaker 2: I mean, the real star of the movie, John Boyega,
- 55:57Speaker 2: of course, is Finn in Star Wars.
- 55:59Speaker 6: Going to be the biggest star in the world.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and the new Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, is also
- 56:05Speaker 2: in it.
- 56:06Speaker 6: And then Dennis. Dennis is on, what is that show?
- 56:13Speaker 6: Edge of Tomorrow. He's the new Firestorm. He's the half
- 56:17Speaker 6: of Firestorm.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he's great.
- 56:19Speaker 6: He's grown up a little bit now. He's kind of
- 56:21Speaker 6: a buff superhero guy now.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked like a little kid then.
- 56:24Speaker 6: I feel like he's going to, but it was, yeah,
- 56:26Speaker 6: it's been a little while. I don't think I've been
- 56:28Speaker 6: watching any of those shows since I'd seen it last.
- 56:30Speaker 6: And I just get there and I'm like, wait, what?
- 56:33Speaker 6: He looks really familiar. And like within two seconds, I
- 56:35Speaker 6: was just like, oh, it's just a little bit younger Firestorm.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:39Speaker 6: Yeah, everybody kind of hit when they came out of this.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and John Boyega is playing, I mean, they even
- 56:44Speaker 2: say this in the movie, that he looks old for
- 56:46Speaker 2: his age. I'm sure he was older than the character
- 56:49Speaker 2: he was playing, but he's supposed to be a 15-year-old,
- 56:51Speaker 2: and he's plausibly that.
- 56:53Speaker 6: Yeah, you do kind of buy him, especially you get
- 56:56Speaker 6: further and further in. It works kind of great, because
- 57:00Speaker 6: we come into it from this, like, we don't know who,
- 57:02Speaker 6: all you see are their eyes, you don't know if
- 57:04Speaker 6: they're kids, you don't know who these menacing characters are.
- 57:07Speaker 6: So we assume these are the bad guys in the
- 57:09Speaker 6: movie for a while. And by the time we see that, oh, well,
- 57:13Speaker 6: they're kind of kids, and then the more and more
- 57:15Speaker 6: the movie goes on, you're like, no, these are kids.
- 57:18Speaker 6: They may still be living a rough life, but they're
- 57:21Speaker 6: kids through and through.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Absolutely. And they are presented kind of, they are the
- 57:28Speaker 2: bad guys in a way in the beginning, not to
- 57:30Speaker 2: spoil it, but they're not, it's not Spielberg kids. They're tough.
- 57:38Speaker 2: um little you know budding criminals basically.
- 57:41Speaker 6: It's it's and again that's what i was saying earlier
- 57:43Speaker 6: with the neighborhood thing this is so much watching it
- 57:46Speaker 6: again this time i'm like that almost becomes so much
- 57:49Speaker 6: a part of this movie it because it is the
- 57:51Speaker 6: block and it's all centered around that little neighborhood the
- 57:55Speaker 6: neighborhood the way that it functions the way that it
- 57:58Speaker 6: runs itself they take care of their own they take
- 58:00Speaker 6: care of the problems themselves like it is sort of
- 58:04Speaker 6: that same thing we were talking about earlier that like
- 58:06Speaker 6: it's its own little world. And because of that, that's also,
- 58:09Speaker 6: I think why these kids are the way they are.
- 58:11Speaker 6: It's like, they have grown up in the middle of this.
- 58:14Speaker 6: So they might be great kids at heart and in
- 58:18Speaker 6: a different set of circumstances would probably be, you know,
- 58:20Speaker 6: going to prep school right now, but they're thugs because
- 58:23Speaker 6: they grew up in this little world. And that's the
- 58:25Speaker 6: rules are, this is what you do when you hit,
- 58:27Speaker 6: you know, 15, go out and start, you know, robbing people. Like,
- 58:30Speaker 6: so it is one of those, you see, As they
- 58:33Speaker 6: go further on, they are more than that, and they
- 58:36Speaker 6: want to be more than that as they can actually
- 58:39Speaker 6: be heroic and do things that kind of help people.
- 58:43Speaker 6: It is an interesting study.
- 58:44Speaker 2: I also love from the get-go in the movie when
- 58:48Speaker 2: they actually discover that there's an alien who invaded, their
- 58:51Speaker 2: first instinct is to... Fuck it up, basically. Beat his ass.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Beat his ass. They pursue it.
- 58:59Speaker 6: Again, I see guys like that in general. I know
- 59:01Speaker 6: people that are like that. They're like, you just cut
- 59:04Speaker 6: them off in traffic and they're ready to kick your ass.
- 59:07Speaker 6: And like watching John's like portrayal of like, Oh no,
- 59:12Speaker 6: this claw mark on my face. No, I at your ass.
- 59:15Speaker 6: So I'm like, it is that kind of guy. Like
- 59:17Speaker 6: if you are that a guy that just does not
- 59:19Speaker 6: take shit off of people, like alien or not, it
- 59:22Speaker 6: still kicks in. And like, that's, that's kind of true.
- 59:25Speaker 6: I feel like.
- 59:26Speaker 2: It was also cool to see John Boyega, um, You know,
- 59:31Speaker 2: in his character of Finn in Star Wars, he was
- 59:34Speaker 2: sort of a blank slate. I mean, he was obviously
- 59:36Speaker 2: a talented guy.
- 59:37Speaker 6: He's so likable.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Charismatic.
- 59:39Speaker 6: There's no flaws to him, really.
- 59:41Speaker 2: No flaws. Maybe just a little bit too naive or something.
- 59:45Speaker 2: But here he was a hardened kid. And it's like, oh,
- 59:48Speaker 2: you know, that's... It's just a different... He's actually more
- 59:52Speaker 2: of an adult as a 15-year-old in this than.
- 59:56Speaker 6: in the and pretty layered as you again as you
- 59:59Speaker 6: get and all the kids kind of like all of
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: the performances are pretty great i agree but you get
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: those kids that are like the further and further in
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: you go the more you you do see not only
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: are they just kids but they are kids that probably
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: do want to do other things with their life and
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: like you know have other things going on when you
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: see them with the girls and you see them still
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: kind of responding like you know teenage boys around teenage
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: girls like yeah You get these weird dynamics that kick
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: in that, again, a lesser written film and a lesser
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: directed film and acted, like, would all just kind of
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: phone that stuff in and it would just be a circumstance.
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: But you get into that room with them and, like,
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: everybody is a character. Everybody relates like real people. Like,
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: that part is kind of surprising as I revisit it. Yeah,
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: it's pretty impressive.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: It's subtle. And the other thing that I loved about
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: it is that the relationships are deftly... uh, you sketched
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: out through action. Yeah. Like nobody sits down and has
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: a monologue and explains their entire backstory.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: Well, and we are immediately thrown into it. Like we
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: see from like the get go, the thing hits the
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: ground and they're just like, let's go. And from that
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: point on, like they're kicking its ass and they're dragging
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: it back. They're getting in another fight with the drug dealers.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: Like it never takes a big long break. Like it's
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: constant action.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: I love that about it. And it's 88 minutes. I
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: just checked and it's like, oh my God, thank you.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Like it, there's not a lot of padding on this.
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: It's a lot of two and a half, three hour
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: movies these days.
- 1:01:28Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: Yeah. It's, it is like, again, just impressive pacing as
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: you go through. That's, that's hard to balance out. So
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: like the fact that he knew what he wanted to
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: make and just admit like, well, it's just not, it's
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: been 15 minutes introducing you to these guys. Let's cut
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: to the action and their actions will be the description
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: of who they are. It's, yeah, it's, it's really kind of, again,
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: for a director who really hadn't done a feature, like
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: he'd done TV work before, but he had such a
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: great concept of like what he wanted to do right
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: off the bat and capture with this.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: One of the reasons that felt like, uh, just emotionally
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: connect or even like socially connected at this point, it's
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: not preachy in any way, but it does have, um,
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: a background in just the effects of ghettoization and poverty
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: and all that. And one of the things that really
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: made it feel connected right now is all the natural
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: disasters and hurricanes we've had recently where you know that
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: people have been kind of left on their own for
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: a bit, like what's happening in Puerto Rico right now
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: as we record this. Like these creatures land in the
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: neighborhood and there's no help.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Like, what help there is is basically harmful because they're
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: blaming the kids for all the stuff.
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: I kind of like that. And again, it's one of those,
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: the more I've watched it, and it is funny because
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: it's not that old a movie, but I was sitting
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: down and I'm like, this is at least the third
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: time I've watched it. It's become, like, one of my
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: favorite recent films. And again, I keep finding, like, there
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: is something interesting about the police aspect. Like, you do
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: get that these ghetto kids, like, By the time you
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: get to the end and they go running in, I
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: think he specifically says something like, the girl's like, is
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: it those monsters? And the kid looks up and he's like, well,
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: sort of. And it's the cops rolling in. And I'm like,
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: the fact that these ghetto kids, the cops are equally
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: as much a destructive force to their lives as aliens
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: from another planet that want to rip them apart. It's
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: not heavy handed, but it is a moment of like, yeah,
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: this is my life every day.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Aliens or not, me.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: Dealing with, you know, what the cops are going to
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: do to me, or me, you know, dealing with what
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: other people immediately think of me when they look at me.
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: It's like, that's all kind of factored in there, really
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: kind of subtle.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: It's, as you say, layered, too, because in the opening
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: beats of the movie, when Jodie Whittaker's character, a nursing
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: student or something like that, is mugged by these kids. Spoiler, sorry.
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: I threw it out there.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. you know, you're really on her side.
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: It's just like, it feels, you know, and it's... That
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: moment when they just appear around her, and John Boyega's
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: a big dude compared to her, and like, it's kind
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: of scary.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and they don't mess around either. They're not, it's
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: not a sentimental portrait. It's so... It allows for a
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: lot of complexities there.
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: We're getting rich off that, you know, because we discovered it.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: eBay fam.
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: Alert the media. Exclusive rights to the highest bidder.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: The sun, fam.
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: The sun believes anything.
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:04:42Speaker 8: The sun will just dress it up like one of
- 1:04:44Speaker 8: those page three girls, bruv.
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: You want to call the Guardian, Vlad?
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: If it's a proper paper, then people will believe you.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: Our tabloids pay more money, bruv.
- 1:04:50Speaker 8: Can't call the paper. FBI will confiscate it off us.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: FBI?
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: This is England, fam. They ain't no FBI. It's Section
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: 6 or something.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: We need an expert to verify that thing, you know.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: Hey, look in the yellow pages and look for them.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Like, all those scientists people know about all them meatier things.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Yellow pages?
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: Like what?
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: A for alien?
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: Cheers.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: We need a lawyer, boy.
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: A manager or something.
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: Bo Salmon Cow.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: Aliens got talent.
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: Jokes, man.
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: Jokes.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: The other thing, and this will be interesting based on
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: what you said you latched on to so early on,
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: the slang, just dialect and slang in this movie in general.
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: I remember watching it the first time going, wait, what?
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: It takes you a while and maybe never fully get
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: on board with the rhythm and the... the terms that
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: they're using, but it is, it's so true, I'm assuming.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: Like, even, like, because I did see a little bit of, like,
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: talking to the actors, and, like, the director had gone
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: so in-depth trying to get into, because, again, he's a
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: grown-up at that point, so he really didn't experience that.
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: He probably didn't grow up in the ghettos of London,
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: so it's, like, he really did research to the point
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: that he was throwing out terms and things for the
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: kids to say that these 15-year-olds were, like, Wait, okay, what?
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: And, like, it was something that they weren't even using,
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: but he had already, like, just woven it into this
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: world that he created. So the fact that all of
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: that is not only so true, I feel like, but
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: comes off so natural in these kids and kind of
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: reinforces that little world thing. Like, the fact that it
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: could be... Granted, they're speaking, in quotes, English, but... It's
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: so detached from everything else that it really does. This
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: may just be something that exists in this little part
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: of London that like in, you know, you go to
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: other areas and they have a totally different dialect and
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: use different slang. So it's such a reinforced little world
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: there that isolates them with that.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking at some time, a couple of
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: points in the film, I was thinking it would really
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: be good to have like a, Translation underneath.
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: I've actually turned, well, I at least turned on the
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: captions sometimes to make sure what I thought they were
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: saying was what they were saying. So they do have
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: it closed captioned pretty accurately to what they're saying. Now,
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: whether or not you then get what they're saying, hopefully
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: you kind of follow the slang.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: But I remember feeling that with Trainspotting, too, and like
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: a lot of Ken Loach films.
- 1:07:17Speaker 8: Definitely.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: It's just like, wow. That is the same language, but
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: we're through a thick wall of regional dialects. And it
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: also goes a lot faster sometimes.
- 1:07:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: You're just like, wait, wait, what did that kid say?
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: It's like they just roll through so much dialogue sometimes
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: and so fast and back and forth.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: But you never get, like, you always get the general
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: sense of it.
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: Like, you can kind of, I mean, even if you watch, like,
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: a foreign film, you can kind of get the mood
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: even if you don't have, you know, if you're not
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: watching the subtitles. So it's like, it's kind of that
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: same thing. As long as you're along for the ride, like,
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: you're always kind of Right there with them each step
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: of the way, even if you maybe didn't catch that
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: last little comment. Like, they're just, again, it's so natural
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: the way they're doing everything that it all kind of fits.
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: The other thing I was so taken with, even that
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: first time through, is just the creature design.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: So original.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: And that first time through, I was trying to decide
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: what it, like, if it was 100% CG or And
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: then watching, again, trying to figure out a little behind
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: the scenes, there are guys in big furry suits. Like,
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: I think they then just massively enhanced it so that
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: it does feel, and again, I think that's what I
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: liked about it. Like, it felt almost cartoony in a way,
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: which I'm like, in this extreme story, like, I kind
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: of was okay with that. Like, I liked how almost
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: CG and, like, blacker than black, as they said. Like,
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: it's so black that it's odd looking and Which is otherworldly. Like,
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: that's what you want. And then the blind face, but
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: the glowing teeth is, oh, my God, I love that creature.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Yeah, when they first appeared, I was like, well, I
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: don't know how to think about this. It seems like
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: it's a little too extreme for this movie. But, yeah,
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: this is going to be extreme. nerdy. But it reminded
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: me of the description of the Balrog in Tolkien.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Because it's supposed to be like equal parts black, almost
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: like invisible blackness. And fire. And these guys were, you know,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: as the guys when they're playing with the corpse of it,
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: it's like, man, that is black.
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: It's blacker than black.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Just like can't even, just like the death of all
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: light in there. And then these glowing fangs and eyes, right?
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: Again, they kept saying, they kept referencing how, almost saying
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: that they were blind. So I don't know if everything
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: that they did was, because even when she like sneaks
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: through the room, it's like they don't see her. So
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: I don't know if everything was based on smell and pheromones.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: I think it was the pheromone base.
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: Yeah, so that's why I think she kind of snuck
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: through because she didn't have any on her, and they
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: just didn't care about her. They were only concerned with
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: the pheromone.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: It's funny, when she was doing that, I was thinking,
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: she's the next Doctor Who. This feels like a very
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Doctor Who moment. You learn something technical about the monster.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: Use it against them.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: And I feel like they have actually done that with
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: either Daleks or something like that. Some creature like that.
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: It kind of feels like that with so many other, like,
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: I've seen several monster type movies or even as, you know,
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: mainstream as Jurassic Park. Like when you realize if you
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: don't move, he can't see you. So it's right there
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: next to you. But if you don't move, you're safe.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: So it's kind of that same little dynamic or. What else? Well,
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: same thing. Even the kids creeping around in the kitchen
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: or when he did it, what were the worlds? He
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: did that same robot kind of, don't move, it's right there.
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: So it's that weird little monster dynamic.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: It's a trope. Yeah.
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: But it always kind of works. If you get the
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: creepy factor down, it always kind of gives you the
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: right dynamic. But yeah, I loved whatever they did to
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: tweak that black and the glowing. Again, I think it
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: looked so odd. and otherworldly that it worked for me.
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: Like I think some people, it might be a turnoff
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: because it's so weird, but I think for the weird
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: story they're telling, I kind of liked it.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. And it wasn't so elaborate that you
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: had to, you know, second guess the mechanics of the monsters.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: They were basically just big gorillas with.
- 1:11:16Speaker 11: Teeth.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: Alien gorilla wolf motherfuckers is what they kept, like multiple.
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: Once one person said it, they all kept describing it
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: that way. And I'm like, yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: That's another thing that I want to mention before we
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: go is that it actually is pretty funny.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: Yeah, genuinely.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: That's easy to undersell here in all my sociological description. But,
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: I mean, you know, Nick Frost, of course, is playing
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: a comic point man there as the sort of larded
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: drug dealer up in the upper block.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: If anything, he's almost.
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: under you like i was just kind of by the
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: end i'm like oh yeah he is in this like
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: he's so not impressive compared to all the rest of
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: the i'm like i kind of expected a little more out.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Of yeah i think i almost felt like he did
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: it as a favor to get made or something which he.
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: Might have i mean again he's just sort of there
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: so it might have been that well my name's attached
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: so now you can get yeah.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: But just the dynamics between the kids is funny and
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: even when it gets bloody and sort of tragic It's
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: pretty witty, how it goes about itself.
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: But also doesn't, again, sometimes it gets so like, again,
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: dealing with super mainstream films and kind of having to
- 1:12:28Speaker 6: please everyone. It's so rare that you see somebody willing
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: to just sort of off one of their characters, but
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: especially kids. So the fact that several of our characters
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: get taken out in the process of this, and I'm like,
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: that's a gutsy move as like the screenwriter to be like, And.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: Not just, you know, again, spoiler alert, but not just
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: the kid, like, you deserve it kids.
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: Yeah, the ones that are being heroic, trying to help people.
- 1:12:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: So it's, yeah, it isn't like they just take out
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: the bad guys. Like, some of our beloved crew do
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: not make it. And that's, yeah, that's something you don't
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: always see, especially when it's a bunch of kids. Like,
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: it's hard to off kids in a story. Yeah.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Spielberg doesn't do it as a rule.
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: Yeah, it's one of those things you rarely see. That's
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: always been something that I'm like, that's a bold move.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Try that, stranger thing.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: Yeah, if you bother to take out one of them, just...
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: Why did the one girl get sacked? She wasn't cool,
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: so she got to die. Other than that, Barb gets
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: taken out, but everybody else, all the other kids, we'll
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: bring you back from the other side. It's okay. But yeah,
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: I thought that was sort of a really... a bold
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: move on his part as screenwriter too.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: The other, just one last thing for me is that
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: I think it was cool where they left it off.
- 1:13:46Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Because there wasn't a giant resolution. There was just enough
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: of a resolution to almost reconcile the lines that the
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: movie started with, which was basically the two main characters,
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: which is Jodie Whittaker and John Boyega's character, who meet
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: in very, you know, a very nasty circumstances with her
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: as a victim of her his crime and that it
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: just adds a note of reconciliation to that after they've
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: helped defeat the creatures together but you don't know where
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: it's gonna go for all we know john john's character
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: is goes to jail and.
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: Gets everything pinned on him like it could but it
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: is it is also that like you really do see
- 1:14:25Speaker 6: this character arc within a night you know you see
- 1:14:28Speaker 6: this guy go from i'm trapped in this i'm probably
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: gonna end up dealing drugs because immediately that's what happens
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: to him So, like, he's going to get thrown even
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: deeper into that life. And then within the span of
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: this night, he realizes he's better than that. He can
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: do more than that. He can help other people. Like,
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: he takes this big heroic journey in the span of
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: one night that, like, you realize... Even sitting in that
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: cop car, like, he's a different person now. Absolutely. And
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: he's not going to go back to that life. Like,
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: he's going to be this new, you know, person that
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: stepped up when he needed to.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Also, the reveal of how he lives.
- 1:15:00Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: The fact that he is a kid.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: He's a kid and he's totally on his own with some, like,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: fly-by-night uncle who probably deals drugs and comes and goes.
- 1:15:09Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: You know, but they don't talk about it. Like they
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: don't have a 10 minute scene talking about it. They
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: just show it and move on.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: It's her kind of, it's the reveal for the audience
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: and her because she's just like, how old are you?
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: Like she assumed he's so much older than that. So
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: once she gets in there and let's see this little
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: kid's room and it's just like, Oh my God, I've
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: been dealing with this kid all night and didn't realize it.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: Like it's, yeah, it's, it's, it's just really well put together.
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: And it did make me want to see, cause I
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: even looked, he hasn't, he hasn't directed anything. Joe Cornish
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: hasn't done anything else as a feature. He's again, I
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: think did an offshoot or two TV wise and it's
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: definitely written. He's, he's, uh, what he wrote, uh, Ant-Man
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: and I think, uh, Adventures of Tintin. He came in
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: as a screenwriter, so he's definitely finding, you know, some
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: success as a screenwriter, not necessarily, Tintin didn't go over
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: well but I'm sure that was a nice paycheck so
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: like but yeah he's just now in 2018 coming back
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: to do a new movie and about a bunch of
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: kids so I'm like I'm kind of interested to see
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: it's I think a little more of a medieval story
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: so I don't know if it's I don't know if
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: it's set in that time and in that time, like mindset.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Of that time period.
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: Or if, yeah, or if it's more of like a
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: modernized kids looking at a weird medieval situation. So I, yeah,
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: I just sort of briefly saw the IMDb and I'm like,
- 1:16:28Speaker 6: all right, him dealing with a group of kids again.
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: Like I'm on board with that. So I do kind
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: of want to see where he goes from here. Cause
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: I think this is surprisingly masterfully directed for somebody who
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: hadn't done a feature.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: If that's all on the movie, um, I did still
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: want to see what, cause you've had so many offshoots
- 1:16:50Speaker 6: of that, you know, of the original mystery science theater
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: project and then riff tracks and so many other things
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: over the years. So I guess where have you landed now?
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: And then how weird was it? Did you ever think
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: the original idea of mystery science theater would ever fight
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: its way back to existence? Cause now it's sort of
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: a thing again.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Um, Well, yeah, right now we're doing Mike Nelson and
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Kevin Murphy and I are doing Riff Tracks, which is
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: definitely an offshoot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 without a
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: lot of the backstory. Not saying that that was bad.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: It's just easier to do the movie commentary as live
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: shows and stuff like that.
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: I really am impressed with the live simulcast idea because
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: you've been doing them all in Nashville, haven't you? Most
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: of them, yeah.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: And the reason for that is just we have a
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: big crew down there that we work with and a
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: theater that really works for us.
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: Because I've seen several of those as they were happening
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: and I'm like, that's kind of a cool idea. It's
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: one I feel like more people should find a way
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: to make again, as we're losing more and more people
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: going to the theater, like it really would be interesting
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: to use technology to make it more of an event,
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: to have some reason to go back to the theater
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: that wasn't just, oh, I could sit at home and
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: watch this later. Like it is a weird live connection,
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: even though you're sitting in totally different cities.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really cool because we, you know, still most
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: of our stuff is done through our website and just
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: sort of released digitally. But at least four times a year,
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: We do these live shows in usually Nashville, although we've
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: done them elsewhere here and there. And they're simulcast all
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: over the country, like over 700 theaters usually, and you
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: can usually find one near you. So the fans of
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Riff Tracks and Mystery Science Theater find each other in
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: the area and make a little tailgate of it. And
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: we're doing it in front of a live couple of
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: hundred people in nashville and props feels great what's.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: That occasionally props yeah.
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: It does have a live show feel to it yeah
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: i like that because yeah you you don't Again, it's
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: almost that same subsection, because, yeah, we were talking about
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: Barry Boswick here, that Rocky Horror feeling.
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, yeah. Like, you've got a movie going on,
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: but you also have guys in there doing a stage show,
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: kind of, so it does have a little bit of
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: that appeal to it.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: It's been funny hanging out with Barry Boswick in the
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: green room a little bit, or the hospitality suite. He's
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: such an old gentleman. Mm-hmm. But I don't have the
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: heart to tell him that we did a movie of
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: his not too long ago, Megaforce. I don't know if
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: you know it. It's the cheesiest 80s movie ever.
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: I mean, he.
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: Definitely was a working actor for quite a while.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: So I'm sure he realizes they can't all get knocked
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: out of the park.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: But yeah, so is that the main focus, or do
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: you have other stuff you're working on?
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: I have a couple of other things. I wrote a
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: comic book not too long ago that is sort of
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: a retcon of Christmas. It's sort of a Christmas comic
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: book with superheroes. It's the... The icons of Christmas sort
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: of reimagined as a superhero team. It's very silly.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Interesting, yeah.
- 1:20:11Speaker 6: That's a different take on it. But everybody loves holiday films.
- 1:20:15Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: You need to make this into a giant budget movie.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: That's all, yep. I guess I'll just agree to that.
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: I mean, once it's a comic book, you're halfway there, right?
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: That's how it works anymore. It's like, just write a
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: graphic novel and we get this greenlit.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: I gotta find a way to get Batman in there.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: And I'm going back to my kind of start, and
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: I'm writing a play these days.
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: So, yeah, that's what I'm doing. Definitely.
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: Well, is there a good place? Do you want to
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: send people still down the riff tracks? Or what's the
- 1:20:44Speaker 6: best place to keep up with what you guys have
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: in the works?
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Definitely rifftracks.com. And for me, probably Twitter, at Bill Corbett.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:20:54Speaker 10: If that is it.
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: Thank you for being on the show.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: It was a pleasure. Thanks. Nice chatting with you.
- 1:20:59Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: Thank you for being on.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: You know what? I'm surprised I didn't see more Mystery
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Science Theater stuff here this year.
- 1:21:21Speaker 6: I was kind of surprised, actually.
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: No cosplay of any of them? No!
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: Well, and even, like, posters. That's the thing.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Oh, your buddy had one poster. Okay, your buddy that...
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: That we say hi to every time we go in there.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Happy on 5. No, no, not him. The other one.
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: Which one?
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Glasses.
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: Joel?
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Hat.
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: Oh, Joel.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Yes, Joel.
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: Joel Robinson.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Joel. Joel, he had a poster. But it
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: had the entire cast. It had the entire cast on there.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: And then it had all the memorable movie characters. They
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: were all sitting in a theater.
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he might have done that as the
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: poster for one of the shows. I feel like.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's got the new guy.
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: I feel like I've seen it as one of the, yeah.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: It's got the new guy Jonah in there, which I'm
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: telling you, when I first started watching the new one,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: my kid, she's raised on Mystery Science Theater. So there's
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: not a lot of kids nowadays. I guess my kid's
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: like 17. So there's not a lot of kids in
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: her high school that know about Mystery Science Theater. She
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: talks about it, and they're just kind of like scratching
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: their heads.
- 1:22:24Speaker 7: It kind of.
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: Hit that window yeah it's like everybody I knew that
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: was into it was into it like in the 90s
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: like the late 90s it hit like you know on
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: Comedy Central and then like everybody after that kind of
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: for another like 10 years and then it just disappeared
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: like it wasn't really like only the hardcore people buying
- 1:22:40Speaker 6: the DVDs when they kept.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Releasing exactly and we kept watching the DVDs well we
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: were watching I'm sorry we were watching the VHS tapes
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: because we bought them.
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: From Suncoast that's where I got my.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Mitchell probably bought them from you you probably did and
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: uh But, yeah, I mean, we started out watching on
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Comedy Central, and I think for a while they were
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: running them on Sci-Fi Channel.
- 1:23:01Speaker 7: Yeah, like the same four episodes over and over.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: And they were running them on KET at one point.
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: Yeah, they were splitting them up into two. We had
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: that pretty early on, about the same time they were
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: running them on Comedy Central. Public Broadcasting picked them up
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: and started splitting them up as the Mystery Science Theater
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: Hour or something, and then they were doing the different
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: hosts that would introduce it first, which was, I think, still... Mike. Yeah,
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: I think it was Mike in a weird old guy
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: disguise who was doing this PBS kind of a host
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: introducing it beforehand. So it was really weird to see
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: that compared to the other one.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I mean, all of them are good. Joel's my favorite.
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: Joel would always be my favorite. I'm still partial. But
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: Mike was fun, too.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: But Mike was fun, too. But, I mean, we started
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: watching with Jonah Hex, the new guy. And at first,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: you know, what?
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: That's a cowboy.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: No, that's his name.
- 1:23:54Speaker 7: Jonah Hex.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: Isn't it? I've never watched it. Oh, wait, no, it's Jonah.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: Jonah, what is Jonah's last name?
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: Jonah Hex is the movie that had Josh Brolin.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: Oh, what's his name?
- 1:24:03Speaker 7: Josh Brolin and Megan Fox was in a comic book series.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: What was his name was Jonah Hex?
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: What's his name?
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Look it up.
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: And what's his name?
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: Son of TV's Frankenstein.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: Patton Oswalt.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Kid loves Patton Oswalt.
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: Jonah Heston.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: Heston. Heston. Okay, I was close. Hex Heston.
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: Charlton Heston.
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: Hosted by Charlton Heston.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: Hosted by Charlton Heston.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: Wonders of CGI.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: Okay, whatever. Jonah Heston. Anyways, when we first started watching
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: the first episode, I was kind of like, yeah.
- 1:24:44Speaker 7: I want to see it hosted by Jonah Heston.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: I was kind of like, I'm not sure, but I'll
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: give it a chance because I know how things are
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: when you're used to watching something. and they remake it,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: and then you don't want to give it a chance.
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: Well, and again, that's just a fanboy kind of a thing. Like, no,
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: I never watched that.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: It is, but I had to get past it because
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: it's the same creator. It's not like they sold it
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: off to Disney and Disney didn't.
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, Joel's still behind it.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: He's been working all these years to find a good
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: way to bring it back and, like, revamp it, and
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: I don't think he ever wanted to come back as host.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: He just wanted to be, like, kind of producer, behind
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: the scenes.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Well, I mean, and we were.
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: It's with his blessing, you know.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: We were.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: You know, we had a Riff Trax account, so I
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: was downloading Riff Trax.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: Which is the only way to watch any of the
- 1:25:30Speaker 7: Twilight movies, by the way.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: Those are your favorites.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: That's the only way we watch the Twilight movies. And
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: the Riff Trax version is awesome. It's great. It makes
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Twilight actually watchable.
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: Something needs to.
- 1:25:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Oh, my God. It's fucking hilarious. But, yeah, we went
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: through and watched it. And we actually finished the entire season.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: So me and my daughter sat and watched through all
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: of them. Um, and, uh, they were all really good. Uh,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: some of them were better than others, but that's like,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: you know, with most mystery science theater, you have your favorites.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:26:00Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: Your favorites. And sometimes it's just the more outlandish the movie,
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: the more fun the whole episode becomes.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: And the sad thing is, is right now, right now
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: I can't, I can't remember any of them because they
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: don't stick out in my mind. specifically, but I've only
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: seen them one time.
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: Sorry to say, because you also didn't watch them 48
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: times like I did those old ones. Exactly.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Eegah and Cave Dwellers.
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.
- 1:26:24Speaker 7: Squirm, was that one?
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: Squirm was, yeah. That was in that same little run.
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: They looped those two down.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: Well, Cave Dwellers we had, and we watched that between
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Cave Dwellers and Eegah in the movie.
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I've got the movie. I love the movie, too.
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: It makes it. Hard to imagine that the old way.
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: And even though it is sort of a universal classic,
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: it still gets thrown in there with a lot of those.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: Oh, it's awesome, though.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually like.
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: It as a movie. The funny thing is... It's so
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: funny to watch it now, having loved the Mystery Science
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: Theater version.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Well, I mean, when we went and saw it in
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the theater, I saw it in the theater and I
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: was like, God, this isn't really that funny. And then
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: when it came out on VHS... I bought it on
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: VHS and went back and watched it again and was like, God,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: this is fucking hilarious. I don't know why, when I
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: was in the theater, I didn't think it was funny.
- 1:27:12Speaker 7: Maybe you weren't in a good mood. Sometimes it's just
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: not what mood you're in. That's why the movie's good
- 1:27:15Speaker 7: or bad.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was still with my ex-wife, so yeah.
- 1:27:17Speaker 7: That would have ruined it.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: That would have ruined it. So, but, you know, either way. Yeah,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: it was a lot funnier when we actually got it
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: on VHS.
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: I think some of those also work better than... the
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: more you... Again, that's how you end up kind of
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: loving TV series, because you end up looping those same
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: episodes over and over.
- 1:27:37Speaker 7: And I think it's true with your.
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: Favorite movies, too. It's like, if you watch them over
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: and over and over again, they kind of grow on
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: you in a way that one time through, you never
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: get attached to it the way that something that you
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: just return to on a regular basis. It is weird.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: And I think some comedy just works better that way.
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: It needs a couple of times... Maybe many times to
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: kind of grow on you a little bit.
- 1:28:02Speaker 7: Seriously, dude, if you're going to wear the chain mail,
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: carry a sword, don't wear fucking tennis shoes.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Dude, you are in my fucking mind. Because that is
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: exactly what I was about to say. I'm like watching.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: I'm like, if you've spent the money on the chain mail,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: get you some fucking boots. Don't wear your fucking Asics
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: or whatever he's wearing. Little black Dr. Scholls with his
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: little white socks. It's like, come on, man. It's like.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: It's like the chicks you see at the horror conventions
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: that wear the corset and the black hair and the
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: eye makeup and then they wear mom jeans and flip-flops.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Remember mom jeans?
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: They're just showing off what they feel is important.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Nobody looks at me from the waist down anyway,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: so just look at these.
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: Much like that lady inside when I said earlier, when
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: you can use that area as a shelf for your drink,
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: that's not right. That's not how you're supposed to. You're
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: not supposed to hoist things up that high.
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: It seems painful.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: Hers was, it looked like not only was it cutting
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: off circulation, but it just- How do you breathe? Things
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: were not supposed to be the places.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: That they were shoved. They were elevated.
- 1:29:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: It's just, it was elevated at an odd level.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: They were horizontal.
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: She could have licked food off of them.
- 1:29:11Speaker 6: I mean, that's, again, geeks would have probably given her
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: some money for that if that's what she's into.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: You gotta pay extra for that. We forgot to say
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: what else was on there.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: What?
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: It was a wolf.
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: A wolf?
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: A wolf. A real live wolf? Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: Yeah. They were hiding him, though.
- 1:29:24Speaker 7: I was excited about the wolf. The wolf was pretty awesome.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: Because it's not my wolf.
- 1:29:27Speaker 7: But it's a wolf.
- 1:29:28Speaker 11: I know.
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: We were very close to a wolf.
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: I saw him with my eyes. He saw me. He
- 1:29:31Speaker 7: made eye contact.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: He was looking at me.
- 1:29:32Speaker 6: He was like, sup?
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: No, he wasn't. Quit taking all my eye contact.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: He gave you the head nod. He was looking at me. Yeah,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: he gave me the bro nod.
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: He gave you the wolf code.
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: He was like, sup? I was like, wolf back.
- 1:29:44Speaker 7: Why are you stealing my thunder?
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: That's what I do.
- 1:29:47Speaker 7: I know. You steal my thunder and poop on my parade.
- 1:29:50Speaker 7: That's what you do.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: And I steal it.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: In my pocket poop on it poop on it you're.
- 1:29:55Speaker 7: So fucking weird.
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: So all that having been said thank you to Bill
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: for sitting in with us and for joining us in
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: this week's movie so go support him in everything he
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: does yes and all MST related projects as far as.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I'm concerned yes watch the new one it's good on Netflix.
- 1:30:19Speaker 7: Plug plug.
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: Huh?
- 1:30:20Speaker 7: Plug plug.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: Plug plug.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: I thought you said butt plug. What does that have
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: to do with Netflix?
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: That's a different show. We can go to those shows
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: if you want, but it's going to be a very
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: different episode. So also, a big thank you to Scarefest
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: for letting us come and be part of the show.
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: This is, once again, I'm still thinking we've been here
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: every year, so this is one of our favorite conventions.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: We love being.
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: Part of this, so a big thank you to them.
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: So anyway, go to thescarefest.com and prepare for next year because, again,
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: it's been awesome every year. We're here every year. We're
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: telling you firsthand it's cool. It is.
- 1:30:58Speaker 7: But if it sucks next year, don't blame us.
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: No, no, no, no.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: It's a good convention. I mean, it does seem like
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: every year we come here, it's a good convention. It's
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: not overly packed. for you people who don't like other people,
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: like me. It's not overly packed, so you don't have
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: people bumping into you constantly.
- 1:31:15Speaker 6: There's tons of people. It's just a lot of space.
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: Unlike many places, they plan ahead and put it in
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: a big enough space to house all of this and
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: all the people. I think other conventions should learn from that.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And here's a convention tip somebody told me,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: and I use it today and actually work. If you
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: don't want to talk to anybody, like, you know, you're
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: just like really anti-social and you don't want to talk
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: to anybody, just put headphones in. And you don't even
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: have to have any music in there.
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: They're just shoved in your pocket.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: And then, yeah, just shove them in your ears and
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: then nobody talks to you. It's great.
- 1:31:49Speaker 7: I like how you didn't share this with me beforehand.
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: Oh.
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: You were one of the ones who didn't want to
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: talk to you.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: We were all wearing headphones.
- 1:31:57Speaker 6: You were one of the ones he didn't want to
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: talk to.
- 1:32:00Speaker 7: Everybody could have just talked to Brian. You didn't have
- 1:32:01Speaker 7: to tell Brian, but you could have told me.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: See, I didn't get any flyers for stuff.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: Like the.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: Attic of Doom.
- 1:32:11Speaker 7: I found $ 10 today.
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: You better not say that. Somebody will call me like,
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: I dropped $ 10. That's mine. They'll be emailing us in.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: No, they won't.
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: I got a zombie. It is free. You got a zombie?
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: This guy right here.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Oh, you did.
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I got a bat ring.
- 1:32:31Speaker 7: It had a headstone in there, too. It was pretty cool.
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: I didn't get anything. I thought the zombie was pretty cool.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: I didn't get anything because nobody talked to me.
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: I wonder why. I know.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Nobody talked to me.
- 1:32:39Speaker 7: I just saw a thing that says free take one.
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: I'm like, fuck yeah, free take one. But it said,
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: don't be a jerk. Don't take more than one. I'm like.
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: I was so going to be a jerk.
- 1:32:47Speaker 7: I was.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you took all the free things. You got like
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: a bracelet. Did you get a bag of seasoning? What
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: did you get?
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: I was trying to sell you on Sage earlier.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Somebody handed you a bag.
- 1:33:01Speaker 7: It was something that smelled.
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: Is it bath salts?
- 1:33:04Speaker 7: I'm going to eat it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: Are we all going to turn into a zombie?
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Are we all going to get fucking high on bath salts?
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Is that what it is?
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: It's one of those smelly things. You heat it up
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: and it smells.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: It's like bath salts.
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: Is that what bath salts are?
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:33:15Speaker 7: I don't think that's what they are.
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: I don't think that's what they are.
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: But you will turn into a zombie if you eat
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: bath salts.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: I wonder if it's flammable.
- 1:33:21Speaker 6: We're going to find out later. Fuck yeah.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: It's like wax.
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: Huh?
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Wax burns.
- 1:33:27Speaker 6: I was trying to get you to get that whole
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: bundle of sage so that way you could like ward
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: off evil spirits in your home.
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: I got $ 10.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: We don't want to do that. I got a ghost knife.
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: What do I need?
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Shit like that.
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: Ghost knife. Fucking serious?
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: Yeah, hell yeah, I got a ghost knife.
- 1:33:40Speaker 7: Oh, Lord.
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: How does it pass over into the other realm?
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: What do you mean, how does it pass over?
- 1:33:44Speaker 7: He grabbed it in a dream.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: No.
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: Did this involve Freddy Krueger?
- 1:33:48Speaker 7: No.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: I bought it, I got it from a Buddhist temple
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: in Thailand. It's blessed by, there's not a whole shit
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: ton of them, but it's a special knife blessed by
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: a special... monk and it has writing and incantations on
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: it and stuff like that.
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: It's a Buddhist script. It's all kind of crazy stuff.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: For those of you who believe in the paranormal stuff,
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: that stuff's a lot... How do you say it? Weird
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: shit seems to happen more in areas that still believe
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: in in a lot of that stuff. So when I
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: was over in Southeast Asia, there's a lot of weird, weird,
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: unexplainable shit that I saw, especially at night. And it's
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: easy for people to believe in a lot of that stuff. But,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I still believe in some of it.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: If nothing else, I think it's Ghost Knife.
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: I think we just pitched an idea for this new
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: indie film we're putting together, Ghost Knife. Because, I mean,
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: I'd contribute some money. Start kicking in some money, guys.
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: I will write a screenplay for Ghost Knife right now.
- 1:34:59Speaker 7: At least a graphic novel.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: We'll start off, yeah, that's how you do it these days.
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: You make the graphic novel, and then it's based on
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: a graphic novel, so you can get the movie greenlit.
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: I see, yeah, yeah, we got a plan. And at
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: some point, somebody's going to be like, I, I, I,
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: I want the knife. So, yes, once again, go to thescarefest.com
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: and make your plans to be here next year.
- 1:35:18Speaker 7: Don't forget the the, because otherwise you will not get
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: to the right page.
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: Who knows what sort of nonsense you'll get to. So, thescarefest.com.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Oh, the scare.
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: If you just put in scarefest.com, you are not going
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: to get the right thing. So don't do that.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: You bring up like a rave page or something.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: So now, go get yourself some pumpkin flavored candy and
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: Goulet and sit down and watch Mr. Science Theater.
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: And some booter scotch.
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: Booter scotch. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Bye.
- 1:35:47Speaker 8: Bye. Bye.
- 1:36:03Speaker 12: Laid on the ground, shook the fear and glory light
- 1:36:06Speaker 12: And he ran on the way to town, screaming, he
- 1:36:12Speaker 12: came out of the sky Well, the crowd gathered round
- 1:36:17Speaker 12: and the scientists said it was Mars, yeah The people
- 1:36:22Speaker 12: came to make a speech about raising the.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Mars tax Thank you.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: We'll be right back.
- 1:37:46Speaker 12: Get on the ground and shake it, feeling for the night.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I'm going to dress up like in a hat. hat
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: and like rock star like shit and go in there
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and be like, you don't know me.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: Where's my table?
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: You don't know me.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I'm paranormal fucking.
- 1:38:37Speaker 7: Jimmy.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: Paranormal Jimmy.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Paranormal Jimmy from fucking ghost shitters.
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: You're going to shit your ass. Give me my fucking shit.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: You're so special. You might get that. And then they're
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: going to be like, security.
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: We can find a cable network to back that, actually.
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: They'll make a lot of dumb ghost shows.
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: You know who I want to see at this convention?
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: Oh, God. Come on.
- 1:39:03Speaker 7: Who do I want to see at this convention?
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:39:05Speaker 7: I want to see the ghost facers.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Oh, ghost facers.
- 1:39:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: I got two ghost knives.
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: That'll be the sequel.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Well, I got them.
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: Ghost Knife 2.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: I got them originally because I was trying to. Son
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: of Ghost Knife.
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: Son of Ghost Knife.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: Son of Ghost Knife.
- 1:39:21Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:39:23Speaker 7: You could.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: Hey, dangerous toys or evil toys or toys in the
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: attic or demonic toys.
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: Devil's playthings.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Devil's playthings.
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what it is. You're almost there. Almost there.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: Almost there. Stay on target.
- 1:39:41Speaker 6: Stay on target.
- 1:39:43Speaker 7: Good times. Ate candy.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: What, here at the convention?
- 1:39:50Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: Danny Trejo was here.
- 1:39:52Speaker 7: Didn't I already say that?
- 1:39:53Speaker 6: I think you said him. Oh, did you?
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Okay, I didn't hear you.
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: He was like the very first thing I said was
- 1:39:57Speaker 7: Danny Trejo. This is what you get for not listening
- 1:40:01Speaker 7: to your girlfriend when she talks to you.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I'm looking at cat memes.
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: You are.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: Can't help it.
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: You and the rest of the internet. Is that a
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: ghost name?
- 1:40:11Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:40:11Speaker 7: Cool.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: There's a smaller version of it.
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: For Stabbing Tiny.
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: Good luck piecing this together.
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: That's every episode we do.
- 1:40:21Speaker 10: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
