- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by
- 0:08Speaker 1: Intuit TurboTax. My name is Beaumontie Jones. Thanks for listening
- 0:12Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:17Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:20Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:23Speaker 1: a hater. We're going to get to what's going on
- 0:25Speaker 1: in the NBA in just a moment. But the NCAA
- 0:30Speaker 1: tournament starts this week. We just got through Selection Sunday.
- 0:36Speaker 1: People who watch and to a degree don't watch college
- 0:40Speaker 1: basketball have sounded more excited about what has happened this
- 0:44Speaker 1: season than honestly any season that I can remember. And
- 0:49Speaker 1: it makes sense, right? There's a very high profile class
- 0:53Speaker 1: of freshmen that, you know, looks like it'll be a
- 0:56Speaker 1: lot of draft action going on. But this ain't about
- 0:58Speaker 1: the pros right now. Right. We talk about this. We
- 1:00Speaker 1: got a lot of young cats that are there that
- 1:02Speaker 1: have been exciting to watch that have been excellent. Then
- 1:07Speaker 1: you combine that with the fact that this NIL money
- 1:10Speaker 1: set up a world where it really isn't that advantageous
- 1:15Speaker 1: for dudes to just run out of school and go
- 1:17Speaker 1: try to get that NBA bread, right? And what I
- 1:20Speaker 1: mean by that is like second round pick money. Like, Ryan,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you're an LSU grad. In this day and age, How
- 1:27Speaker 1: many years would Nas Reed have stayed at LSU? And
- 1:31Speaker 1: for those who don't know, you think of Nas Reed as,
- 1:33Speaker 1: I think he was undrafted or a second-round pick or something.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Second-round pick.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, second-round pick, but he was a five-star big deal.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yes. Big deal. Probably stays at least three.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I mean, the way the eligibility rules are going could
- 1:47Speaker 2: be six.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but why would you leave if you could get
- 1:50Speaker 1: a couple million dollars?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Just for laying in the cut.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I mean, although to be fair, the way it's looking
- 1:56Speaker 1: right now, Go to the NBA and come back.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Shit.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, who knows? Nothing makes any sense right now. But
- 2:02Speaker 1: think about what it would be if Nas Reed were
- 2:05Speaker 1: still in school.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Right?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Like the idea of the good junior that's not necessarily
- 2:11Speaker 1: going to be a great NBA player, but will be like...
- 2:15Speaker 1: It's just going to be deeper. I think is the
- 2:17Speaker 1: biggest point to make. Now, how that talent gets distributed,
- 2:20Speaker 1: where it goes, that becomes its own discussion. But it
- 2:25Speaker 1: makes sense. There's going to... there has been a bit
- 2:28Speaker 1: of a talent shortage for a while. And what happened was,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and I think this to a degree may still be
- 2:34Speaker 1: the case, but the discrepancy won't be nearly as great.
- 2:38Speaker 1: When I was growing up, we could say with confidence
- 2:42Speaker 1: that the best players in the world under 22 years
- 2:47Speaker 1: old were playing college basketball with the exception of just
- 2:51Speaker 1: like tip top guys that just kind of sort of
- 2:55Speaker 1: had no business being in college. But overall, those were
- 2:59Speaker 1: the best players under 22 in the NBA. Then you,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I mean, in the world, we're playing in college basketball.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Then it got to the point where you're watching the
- 3:05Speaker 1: NBA draft and everybody that gets drafted in the first
- 3:07Speaker 1: round is 20 or under. Like it never gets there.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Now those dudes are staying in school. And now this
- 3:14Speaker 1: is going to be on display. Like there's, there are,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and I'm going to get into another part of this
- 3:22Speaker 1: for a second. But I know back when I used
- 3:24Speaker 1: to really, really, really watch these things closely. The one
- 3:28Speaker 1: thing that you could say pretty confidently about who the
- 3:31Speaker 1: national champion would be is it would be somebody on
- 3:34Speaker 1: Ken Pomeroy's rankings, adjusted rankings for offensive and defensive rating,
- 3:39Speaker 1: that the teams that were in the top 10 in both,
- 3:42Speaker 1: those were the teams that were going to be national
- 3:44Speaker 1: championship contenders. Ryan, we got four of those. Those are
- 3:49Speaker 1: the four number one seeds. They fit that distinction. If
- 3:52Speaker 1: you go by Pompoy's rankings, they're the top four. Number
- 3:55Speaker 1: five overall, that's Houston. Number five in defensive rate. Iowa State,
- 4:03Speaker 1: don't ask me, but they're there. That's what they're telling me.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Now, I will tell you this.
- 4:09Speaker 1: In my history, when they get there, that first round loss,
- 4:14Speaker 1: They lost to a black school one year. I'm trying
- 4:15Speaker 1: to remember which one it was. Was it Hampton? It
- 4:18Speaker 1: was Hampton. I think they did. Either way it goes.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Even the black people are like, I don't know about that. Ryan,
- 4:25Speaker 1: great story for you. This is back when I was
- 4:29Speaker 1: in a school in North Carolina and we weren't too
- 4:31Speaker 1: far removed from that 8-20 season that they had in
- 4:34Speaker 1: 2001 and 2002. You got to understand, man. They had
- 4:37Speaker 1: some real PTSD about that season for a long time.
- 4:40Speaker 1: They'd never been bad.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You're right.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Let alone just being abjectly terrible. And so I was
- 4:46Speaker 1: talking to a buddy of mine and I was telling
- 4:49Speaker 1: him they lost to Hampton that year. At home. And
- 4:54Speaker 1: he was like, nope, we ain't lose to Hampton. We
- 4:57Speaker 1: lost to Davidson. Because he just couldn't imagine they lost
- 5:00Speaker 1: to black school. We lost to Davidson, but we ain't
- 5:02Speaker 1: lose to Hampton. Had to bring him in close. You
- 5:07Speaker 1: lost to both of them.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Oh, man. Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I'm sure they were unhappy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, like that moment felt a lot like one of
- 5:16Speaker 1: my favorite Simpsons moments when Homer went to community college
- 5:22Speaker 1: and he decided he wanted to look the part. And
- 5:24Speaker 1: so he had like a bomber jacket with these patches
- 5:27Speaker 1: and it looked ridiculous. And Marge is like, oh, Homer.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You're supposed to put leather patches on a tweed jacket
- 5:34Speaker 1: and you put tweed patches on a leather jacket. You've
- 5:37Speaker 1: ruined a perfectly good jacket. And then he holds up
- 5:40Speaker 1: this jacket with these cutouts in it. He's like, no, Marge,
- 5:42Speaker 1: two perfectly good jackets. That was how it felt in
- 5:49Speaker 1: that moment. But anyway, it's a lot going on here.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I am looking forward to watching these games. Because I'm
- 5:58Speaker 1: going to be honest with you people, I ain't watched
- 6:00Speaker 1: a college basketball game yet this year. I've seen these clips. Oh, no,
- 6:03Speaker 1: that is not true. I watched Carolina beat Duke at
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Dean Dome earlier, the first game that they played
- 6:10Speaker 1: this year. I did, in fact, watch that. Ryan, have
- 6:14Speaker 1: you been watching any college basketball? I don't know how
- 6:16Speaker 1: I feel about myself about this because people say it's
- 6:18Speaker 1: really been cracking, but I just kind of got.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Out of the habit.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I've been on a Peterson watch for the show.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Well, yes, yes, but that doesn't necessarily involve watching any
- 6:26Speaker 1: basketball because Darren Peterson was not necessarily playing. So it
- 6:29Speaker 1: has become abundantly clear. Remember when he had, we had
- 6:32Speaker 1: 40 on here talking about that. And I was like,
- 6:34Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe that he's just been hurt. And
- 6:36Speaker 1: apparently he's been.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Really, really hurt. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Like he's, he's, we're... If he can play now, this
- 6:43Speaker 1: is going to be an interesting introduction for him because
- 6:47Speaker 1: he's not only, it doesn't appear that it is a
- 6:49Speaker 1: great team, which opens up the possibility for balling out
- 6:54Speaker 1: of control because you have to.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Right? AJ Debonza, who I have seen enough of in
- 7:01Speaker 1: clips to say, ooh.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 1: He looks to be rather incredible. Same thing with him.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Not a really good team, but that's how you might
- 7:12Speaker 1: go off on that Wally Zerbiak, right? Hit you with
- 7:15Speaker 1: a couple 40 balls to start the tournament. But there
- 7:19Speaker 1: are things going on. This is going to be an
- 7:22Speaker 1: interesting tournament. Now, I mentioned Duke earlier and how I
- 7:27Speaker 1: watched them play a game this year and lose. Ryan,
- 7:30Speaker 1: did you know they had only lost two games all year?
- 7:32Speaker 2: I did know that.
- 7:33Speaker 1: They have only lost two games all year long. They
- 7:36Speaker 1: are the number one overall seed in the tournament. They
- 7:42Speaker 1: have not one boozer, but two boozers that are on
- 7:48Speaker 1: this team. And I'm bringing this up because we got
- 7:54Speaker 1: to do something about it. Like all of us. We
- 7:58Speaker 1: just can't just say bye-bye-bye-bye-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da. I buy that shit. Like
- 8:02Speaker 1: you're telling me you're telling me that Duke is the
- 8:04Speaker 1: favorite to win the whole tournament.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Well, let's let's get this together.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Like, I know this isn't like it used to be.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And I know that things have changed a little bit
- 8:16Speaker 1: and people don't hate Duke nearly as much because in
- 8:19Speaker 1: an ironic twist, they stopped having so many white boys.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Like it just got so out of control that even
- 8:26Speaker 1: white people have begun to resent them. about having all
- 8:29Speaker 1: them white boys out there. You know what I mean?
- 8:31Speaker 1: The same white people that love Macklemore. Like, everyone just like, hey, hey, man,
- 8:36Speaker 1: this shit's going too far, right? Like, it was, they
- 8:38Speaker 1: was like, hey, any white boys left? Let's go get them. Like,
- 8:41Speaker 1: that was really happening in recruiting where you look up
- 8:44Speaker 1: and they were just like, oh, we got one scholarship
- 8:45Speaker 1: left and there's one white dude in the top 100
- 8:48Speaker 1: that doesn't have a home. Why don't you come on
- 8:50Speaker 1: down right here, right? And it was the white dudes
- 8:53Speaker 1: they was getting were the kind of white people that
- 8:55Speaker 1: white people didn't like. Now, granted, they had been doing that,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you know, a little easy. Either way it goes, all
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm saying is once they stop going and getting them
- 9:03Speaker 1: white dudes, people stop hating them in the same capacity.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But Ryan, what nobody has ever told me was when
- 9:09Speaker 1: they stopped getting all those white dudes, were there also
- 9:11Speaker 1: people that stopped loving them in the same capacity that
- 9:14Speaker 1: they had prior?
- 9:15Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I don't know. Because, I mean, they kind of messed
- 9:19Speaker 1: with the thing that made the thing the thing. Right.
- 9:23Speaker 1: They kind of, you know.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You're saying they messed with the recipe a little bit?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. They kind of new coked it.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? They're like, no, but this is,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, it's exactly new coke. Because the thing about
- 9:33Speaker 1: new coke was they made new coke taste more like Pepsi.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And people was like, we don't want Pepsi. We want coke.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? And so when they was
- 9:43Speaker 1: out there with all the white dudes and then they
- 9:44Speaker 1: was like.
- 9:45Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But Pepsi is rising up in the rankings. They like
- 9:48Speaker 1: we don't want no Pepsi. We want to drink Coke.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Give us this pure white basketball is.
- 9:57Speaker 2: What we looking for and then grayson allen comes back oh.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He's the last one they have not had like a
- 10:03Speaker 1: truly objectionable obnoxious like totally by the brand white boy
- 10:07Speaker 1: since then think about this man they had not just
- 10:11Speaker 1: two white dudes last year who wound up being drafted
- 10:14Speaker 1: in the lottery Them two white dudes are the top
- 10:16Speaker 1: two candidates for rookie of the year in the NBA
- 10:20Speaker 1: this year. They had two cold white boys, and they
- 10:24Speaker 1: couldn't even really get the, like, it just ain't the same.
- 10:29Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? Like, when Duke got two
- 10:31Speaker 1: cold-ass white boys, and they don't even get hyped that
- 10:34Speaker 1: much anymore. They didn't even get hyped. They didn't even
- 10:36Speaker 1: really get that hated. You know, and look, Cooper Flagg,
- 10:40Speaker 1: if that don't sound like Duke, Cooper Flagg, his mama's
- 10:44Speaker 1: favorite player was Christian Layton. He dreamed of going there.
- 10:46Speaker 1: We should have been hating him on a generational basis.
- 10:48Speaker 1: And we was just kind of like, hey, I hear
- 10:49Speaker 1: he's going to be pretty good. Right? We have lost.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He went out of high school early to get to do.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yes, yes. He couldn't wait. He was so excited. We,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm just saying at a sum total, all the way
- 11:00Speaker 1: across the board, all of this, we are no longer vigilant.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And you got to understand this.
- 11:06Speaker 1: If ever you had to be vigilant, you must always
- 11:08Speaker 1: be vigilant. Right? Case in point. All them x-rays and
- 11:12Speaker 1: shit at the airport. They ain't been back to the
- 11:15Speaker 1: airport since.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Right?
- 11:17Speaker 1: You know that line, Ron? You read a lot of
- 11:19Speaker 1: stuff like this. Generals always fighting the last war.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:23Speaker 1: They probably not going to come back to the airport.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 11:27Speaker 1: That's me knocking on wood. They probably not going to
- 11:30Speaker 1: come back to the airport. But you know what? If
- 11:32Speaker 1: you were ever vigilant, you must always be vigilant. And
- 11:38Speaker 1: we done fell off. Right? Like, that's how I feel
- 11:42Speaker 1: about it. And I think it's also weird because of
- 11:45Speaker 1: these boozers. Because for the most part, once the Duke
- 11:47Speaker 1: guys leave Duke and go to the NBA, with the
- 11:51Speaker 1: exception of Grayson Allen, we don't really hate him the
- 11:54Speaker 1: same way no more. Like, Grayson Allen insisted upon bringing
- 11:59Speaker 1: his same old tricks and shenanigans with him.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Like, he made it impossible for us to... We let J.J.
- 12:08Speaker 1: move on.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And I didn't hate J.J. in college.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Right?
- 12:12Speaker 1: But we let J.J. move on.
- 12:14Speaker 2: J.J. Redick is what got me into hating Duke.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I see the argument.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Because that's like the perfect age.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. You're there. You didn't have the opportunity
- 12:25Speaker 1: for the Christian Laettner era.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Correct.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And the difference between J.J. and Christian Laettner is J.J.
- 12:31Speaker 1: went to a Final Four, but... Christian Laitner went to
- 12:34Speaker 1: four of them.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And the thing about Christian Laitner was, looking back on it,
- 12:40Speaker 1: when he made the Dream Team, we were like, that
- 12:41Speaker 1: was Shaq's spot on the Dream Team. But he gave
- 12:44Speaker 1: Shaq the work when they played. He gave them all
- 12:46Speaker 1: the work. Every single one of them. It wasn't just
- 12:48Speaker 1: like Duke manufactured it. Christian Laitner gave all of them
- 12:52Speaker 1: the work. I've never hated a stranger. And it's not
- 12:56Speaker 1: just me. I'll tell you about this. I covered the
- 12:59Speaker 1: 2007 NCAA tournament. I mean, not NCAA, the ACC tournament.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And they do an ACC Legends thing at halftime. You know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: it's like a ring of honor sort of thing or whatever.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Rodney Rodgers, God rest his soul, he was there. Because
- 13:11Speaker 1: I remember I talked to him for the story that
- 13:12Speaker 1: I wrote about it. And it was at halftime of
- 13:16Speaker 1: one of the semifinal games. And the semifinal games are
- 13:19Speaker 1: usually not that well attended, or at least they weren't.
- 13:21Speaker 1: They were like Saturday afternoon early.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And I just remember they started saying, and from Duke,
- 13:28Speaker 1: the Christian got one foot on the wood.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Boo!
- 13:35Speaker 1: At that time, the ACC had 12 schools. It was
- 13:38Speaker 1: 11 schools of boo. Never seen anything like that.
- 13:43Speaker 2: 15 years later.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And Laitner looked at them, looked around, and just went,
- 13:50Speaker 1: And blew a kiss to them all. It was perfect.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It was an amazing moment, right?
- 13:54Speaker 4: It's incredible.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But anyway, we got to get back on this. And see,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I understand this. A lot of you people, too young
- 14:01Speaker 1: to have been on the Duke hating wagon. In some
- 14:03Speaker 1: of your cases, too white to be on the Duke
- 14:06Speaker 1: hating wagon. And in some of these cases, y'all don't
- 14:10Speaker 1: make no sense to me, right? And so, like, The
- 14:14Speaker 1: black girls who had crushes on Grant Hill and continued
- 14:18Speaker 1: to root for Duke passed that. I mean, I get it.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I don't approve necessarily, but I see how you wound
- 14:24Speaker 1: up getting there. But some of the rest of y'all,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and yes, talking specifically about black people, I don't know
- 14:31Speaker 1: what the set of circumstances was that got you to
- 14:34Speaker 1: that place where you decided you was going to root
- 14:36Speaker 1: for Duke, but it's confusing. Ryan, I don't know if
- 14:39Speaker 1: you're familiar with my man, Karam Phillips. He's a sports
- 14:42Speaker 1: writer and He from, like, Saginaw. He from some of
- 14:50Speaker 1: that Michigan. You know what I'm saying?
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes.
- 14:53Speaker 1: And he'd be out here writing about the revolution. He'd
- 14:56Speaker 1: be giving the white folks the blues, all of that stuff. Man,
- 14:59Speaker 1: he'd be out here rooting for Duke like he went there.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And I got bad news, Karan. You can't do both.
- 15:06Speaker 1: You got to pick a cause. It's us or them.
- 15:09Speaker 1: What are you talking about? You know what I'm saying?
- 15:12Speaker 1: You're calling yourself giving the white folks the blues and
- 15:13Speaker 1: then you used to root for Greg Paulus. That was you.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so white he left Duke and went to be
- 15:21Speaker 2: your quarterback.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Hell yeah! That's what I'm saying. That was when you
- 15:24Speaker 1: was a... No, no, no, no, no. You got a
- 15:27Speaker 1: Cherokee Parks jersey in the closet and you be out here. No, no. No, no, no.
- 15:33Speaker 1: It's not allowed. So anyway, we all got to get together.
- 15:36Speaker 1: We all got to be on the same team. One
- 15:39Speaker 1: big old team. If you ain't Duke, then the rest
- 15:41Speaker 1: of it don't matter. We just all need to be
- 15:43Speaker 1: there together. And I need to put this in some
- 15:46Speaker 1: ways because some of y'all might not be prepared to
- 15:49Speaker 1: get on the Duke wagon, right? So maybe we need
- 15:51Speaker 1: to remind some people of some things. For example, don't
- 15:58Speaker 1: forget Richard Nixon went to Duke. Now, you may be
- 16:01Speaker 1: too young to care about the fact that Richard Nixon
- 16:04Speaker 1: went to Duke, right? And I think it was Duke
- 16:06Speaker 1: Law School, just to be clear. But it's all good.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It's all good. We don't even need to bring up
- 16:12Speaker 1: Richard Nixon no more. That one don't even rate. Stephen
- 16:16Speaker 1: Miller went to Duke. That's right. Stephen Miller went to Duke.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And if Stephen Miller going to Duke don't do enough
- 16:29Speaker 1: for you, just wait a couple days because I'll be
- 16:32Speaker 1: watching the news and seeing what's going on in this world, Ryan.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And it's only a matter of time before Kyrie snaps.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 1: He's been good about it for a while.
- 16:43Speaker 2: He might have deleted Twitter off his phone.
- 16:45Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He's been holding it together. But I'm just saying it is,
- 16:47Speaker 1: if he get on there and snaps, those of you
- 16:49Speaker 1: who don't care about the fact that Stephen Miller went
- 16:51Speaker 1: to Duke, Kyrie went to Duke.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That's right. Let's bring all the forces together, baby. That's
- 17:01Speaker 1: what we need to do. I wish Bruce Pearl had
- 17:03Speaker 1: gone to Duke. Shit, that would have been stupendous if
- 17:07Speaker 1: we could do that.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Who else?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Oh, Warriors fans. Warriors fans. I hear you guys aren't
- 17:13Speaker 1: really too fond of your general manager right now. You
- 17:16Speaker 1: feel like he's contributed to wasting these years of Steph
- 17:19Speaker 1: Curry still being productive. That would be Mike Dunleavy Jr.,
- 17:23Speaker 1: Duke alum. Do you follow Jason Williams on Twitter? Or
- 17:29Speaker 1: any other platform? Or Instagram? Or see him on television?
- 17:32Speaker 1: He be getting on your nerves, don't he? Don't he?
- 17:36Speaker 1: He's always been nice to me, but on TV?
- 17:38Speaker 2: Really nice guy.
- 17:39Speaker 1: He be getting on my nerves. He went to Duke too.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And by the way, for those of you too young
- 17:45Speaker 1: to remember, and Ryan, you may be one of them. Ooh, boy.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Rob yeah that's right yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Jason williams jason williams is so cold like when you
- 18:00Speaker 1: start putting together the list of yeah but he was
- 18:03Speaker 1: cold duke dudes jason williams is jason williams great hill
- 18:07Speaker 1: that's like one two jason williams great hill zion williamson
- 18:12Speaker 1: well he got eight games of kairi but anyway fuck
- 18:15Speaker 1: that he went there um so we can we can
- 18:18Speaker 1: we can get in that one some of y'all are
- 18:20Speaker 1: a little bit what's the word fat phobic zion um
- 18:25Speaker 1: are you a knicks fan it felt like you ain't
- 18:27Speaker 1: get enough out of maple mamba rj barrett all right
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's right there but They can't do it. We got it.
- 18:36Speaker 1: We are on our second generation of boozers.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Charlie Rose went to Duke. Google why he's not on
- 18:41Speaker 2: TV anymore.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Didn't realize he had gone to Duke. Okay. There's another one.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Y'all be out here complaining about everything that has to
- 18:48Speaker 1: do with the NBA. Everything under the sun about the NBA.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Adam Silver. Duke alum. That's right. We got to get
- 18:59Speaker 1: it there.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:01Speaker 1: They appear to be cold. They appear to be cold, cold, cold.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Very good. The boozer, the better boozer, that's Cam. That's
- 19:09Speaker 1: better boozer, right? I have seen enough to be like, oh,
- 19:13Speaker 1: he seems to be a very good basketball player. So
- 19:18Speaker 1: who going to get him fouled out? Somebody got to
- 19:22Speaker 1: get that done. It's been 11 years since Duke won
- 19:28Speaker 1: a national championship. Can't have it in my life, bro.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Can't do it. Can't do it. Can't do it.
- 19:33Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So that's my thing. I'm looking forward to filling out
- 19:37Speaker 1: a bracket because I feel like I will perform better
- 19:39Speaker 1: than I ever have without having watched a game because
- 19:42Speaker 1: watching games never did much for my actual ballot. I
- 19:46Speaker 1: think I'm in better shape on what I'm going to
- 19:49Speaker 1: get there to. how come Rick Pitino couldn't have gone
- 19:51Speaker 1: to Duke? Too bad he's not. I mean, I'm glad
- 19:55Speaker 1: he's not their coach, though, because then they would be beautiful.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I can't believe he's still doing this at this age.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Just getting St. John's back to its old glory. It
- 20:06Speaker 2: really is.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I would make point number one. I'd be worried about
- 20:11Speaker 1: what he would do with his free time.
- 20:13Speaker 2: It's a fair counter.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And point number two, and I guess this is somewhat
- 20:18Speaker 1: similar to LeBron and why he still plays, though LeBron
- 20:20Speaker 1: doesn't still fit in this category in this way. I
- 20:24Speaker 1: can't imagine being as good at anything as Rick Petito
- 20:28Speaker 1: is at coaching basketball.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 20:31Speaker 2: It's... For the bridges he's burned and the places he's been,
- 20:38Speaker 2: people just can't quit him.
- 20:40Speaker 1: He's just too good to turn down. I'm thinking in
- 20:44Speaker 1: terms of strictly coaching basketball in college, because Patino's pro thing.
- 20:49Speaker 1: They won the Atlanta Division once when he coached the
- 20:51Speaker 1: Knicks for what it's worth. But let's just keep this
- 20:53Speaker 1: to college basketball. I'm not sure who's in the same
- 20:57Speaker 1: zone as him. Like Larry Brown at his best. Like
- 21:00Speaker 1: Larry Brown is like the top to bottom. Like what
- 21:02Speaker 1: Rasheed Wallace is called a pound for pound. Like he's
- 21:05Speaker 1: that guy. But anyway, let's get back to this hate
- 21:08Speaker 1: and Duke. Let's all do it.
- 21:12Speaker 2: None of us need to get distracted from keeping the
- 21:14Speaker 2: main thing.
- 21:15Speaker 3: No, no.
- 21:15Speaker 1: The main thing got to stay the main thing. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: we done made the main thing fall off. If we
- 21:21Speaker 1: had truly hated Duke the way we could, they team
- 21:23Speaker 1: could never look the way it would. We as a people,
- 21:26Speaker 1: not you or yours, Ron, talking about me and mine.
- 21:28Speaker 1: We should have been boycotted that shit a long time ago.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I can't, like, how? How'd you, like, how did that happen?
- 21:35Speaker 1: I remember the time somebody tried to come in our
- 21:37Speaker 1: house rooting for Duke and almost got kicked out. I
- 21:40Speaker 1: can't imagine being like, yeah, you can go there. I
- 21:42Speaker 1: ain't signing that shit. No circumstance would I let that happen.
- 21:48Speaker 1: So anyway, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Houston, everybody out there, we
- 21:54Speaker 1: rooting for you, baby. Cause I'm scared. All right, Ryan,
- 22:04Speaker 1: this weekend I had to do some traveling for work.
- 22:07Speaker 1: So I didn't a different kind of work. I'll tell
- 22:09Speaker 1: you guys about it shortly, but you hit me on Sunday.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It was like, did you see what happened last night?
- 22:16Speaker 1: And I'm like, what do you mean? Did I see
- 22:17Speaker 1: what happened last night? And so Luca hit a game
- 22:19Speaker 1: winner and had a clutch defensive play.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Lakers doing us a favor, programming the show.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Hey, let me tell you what the Lakers are doing,
- 22:28Speaker 1: because the Lakers have played themselves up to, what, third
- 22:31Speaker 1: in the West right now?
- 22:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 22:32Speaker 1: All right, so that is Thunder Spurs, which, that's one-two.
- 22:38Speaker 2: One-two probably in the NBA.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but for the playoffs, the Thunder's going to be one,
- 22:42Speaker 1: the Spurs are going to be two. The Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets,
- 22:47Speaker 1: Timberwolves in a bit of a cluster, okay? But I think,
- 22:53Speaker 1: In all likelihood, those are the six teams that are
- 22:55Speaker 1: not going to have to go into the play-in. It
- 22:59Speaker 1: is debatable. I don't know how much it matters where
- 23:04Speaker 1: those teams fall in 3-6, given that they're not going
- 23:07Speaker 1: to play the Thunder or the Spurs in the first round.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I think, and I'm curious if you agree with me,
- 23:14Speaker 1: that they all want to play against the Lakers.
- 23:17Speaker 2: The other three teams?
- 23:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Everybody wants to play against the Lakers. Because the Lakers
- 23:23Speaker 1: got three dudes that you can hunt.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:27Speaker 1: On defense.
- 23:28Speaker 2: And no one wants to play Joker.
- 23:32Speaker 4: No. Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I mean, look here. I don't think anyone wants to
- 23:36Speaker 1: play Joker. I don't think anybody really wants to see Minnesota.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:40Speaker 1: If we're being honest, like for this level of basketball,
- 23:43Speaker 1: they are tested. The Rockets, I think because they have
- 23:47Speaker 1: the glaring point guard hole. And the fact that Shingun
- 23:50Speaker 1: is an awful defensive player.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he's really regressed.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Can you imagine what Joker would think about the idea
- 23:58Speaker 1: of squaring up with Shingun every game?
- 24:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Give me... Brother, I have 47. Like, that's the kind
- 24:09Speaker 1: of performance that you're going to get there. But a
- 24:12Speaker 1: good Lakers team with just enough to keep it interesting? Ooh. Right? Because, hey...
- 24:22Speaker 1: Luka Doncic is a playoff performer, and it appears, I
- 24:26Speaker 1: saw pictures implying this, and you let me know if
- 24:27Speaker 1: I'm wrong here, it appears that he has replayed his
- 24:30Speaker 1: way into shape.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yes.
- 24:33Speaker 1: So he's replayed his way into shape. LeBron is healthy now.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean, the tricky thing with figuring out the Lakers is, one,
- 24:42Speaker 1: how healthy will he be when the games are every
- 24:44Speaker 1: other night? Right. And number two, are they better off
- 24:49Speaker 1: when he doesn't play With the other guys.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Or it's just weird. This weird thing where it's like
- 24:54Speaker 2: the less he's featured on offense, the better they are.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Or, you know, JJ implied that they had one of
- 25:00Speaker 1: them conversations and he let them know that he was
- 25:02Speaker 1: going to have to step it back. And apparently that
- 25:05Speaker 1: has happened to positive results. I just don't think they're
- 25:09Speaker 1: going to be able to play good enough defense at
- 25:11Speaker 1: the point at which it matters. But man, they give
- 25:14Speaker 1: us a good first round. seven game series or something
- 25:18Speaker 1: just to get the blood pumping, just to get a
- 25:20Speaker 1: nice big win on game one.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 3: TV.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Cause look, it's really starting to feel like something
- 25:27Speaker 1: now it's easy to lose sight of the fact that
- 25:30Speaker 1: we're a month away from the playoff start.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I believe the first game of the playoffs is April 18th.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I think that's exactly right. Yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Like we're, you know how I know, but yeah, We're
- 25:44Speaker 1: getting there. All these Sunday and Saturday games, they're feeling
- 25:49Speaker 1: like something, right? Minnesota and Oklahoma City played on Sunday,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and it wound up being a big Oklahoma City win,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but Minnesota was up for most of the first two
- 25:59Speaker 1: and a half quarters of that game. It's at the
- 26:02Speaker 1: point where you're seeing these matchups that are coming up,
- 26:05Speaker 1: and it's like, yo, I got to get my eyes
- 26:07Speaker 1: on this one. Cats out here. We talked about this before.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Anybody that thinks the idea is that in the regular season,
- 26:13Speaker 1: nobody plays hard, this simply isn't true. They're going, going, going,
- 26:19Speaker 1: going right now. But in the West, they're really playing
- 26:22Speaker 1: for something in that shuffle. I feel like in the East,
- 26:26Speaker 1: what the seeds are now are kind of sort of
- 26:29Speaker 1: what the seeds are, right? Maybe Miami plays their way
- 26:32Speaker 1: into six and Minnesota goes down, but Detroit's going to
- 26:35Speaker 1: be one, Boston's going to be two, New York is
- 26:37Speaker 1: going to be three, Cleveland's going to be four, Orlando's
- 26:40Speaker 1: going to be five. I think we know that. I
- 26:43Speaker 1: don't think we're going to really start caring about what's
- 26:46Speaker 1: going on over there until the second round, at which
- 26:48Speaker 1: point it does get very interesting. You know, what happens
- 26:53Speaker 1: in that round? If we get another Boston, New York
- 26:56Speaker 1: conference semi with Jason Tatum, who, don't ask me how.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah, seems to be working so far.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like, I was actually thinking about him in
- 27:06Speaker 1: the context that we were talking about with Duke, because
- 27:08Speaker 1: I know Duke's got some players that are hurt. Those
- 27:10Speaker 1: of us who are old enough to remember this, they
- 27:13Speaker 1: be having miracle cures over there. Duke be having cats
- 27:17Speaker 1: come back. You'd be like, wait a minute. I thought
- 27:18Speaker 1: you said he had a compound fracture of his femur.
- 27:22Speaker 1: That was two weeks ago. Them cats be coming back.
- 27:26Speaker 1: I don't know what they S & C. They train
- 27:28Speaker 1: a situation, whatever it is. Them cats be coming back.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Duke alum, but you know, that's a figure of speech.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Jason Tatum, back like he never left. I do not know.
- 27:40Speaker 1: But if we get Luka out here playing high-level Luka
- 27:44Speaker 1: playoff ball, I don't care if the Lakers win. Just
- 27:48Speaker 1: make it fun.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yes. Right?
- 27:50Speaker 1: It doesn't matter who wins and loses early like that.
- 27:53Speaker 1: You know? Who's supposed to win is going to matter
- 27:55Speaker 1: at the end. But just... Give us some excitement.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Give us some fun. And I feel like we're going
- 28:03Speaker 1: to have plenty of that. By the way, before I forget,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I see that people on the internet talk about this,
- 28:08Speaker 1: but I think this matters. How in the world did
- 28:12Speaker 1: Daryl Morey just give Jerry McCain away?
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's insane. Just gave him away to the thunder.
- 28:18Speaker 1: And it's interesting because I am told that the guys
- 28:21Speaker 1: in Philadelphia really liked him. Like he was a, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 1: but goodness, that.
- 28:27Speaker 5: the zoomer zoomer zoomer whoever zoomed he needed to be
- 28:32Speaker 5: on the thunder yeah right like he's down there and
- 28:35Speaker 5: nobody even thinks nobody even thinks this shit is.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Weird it's it's really remarkable right but he he can
- 28:40Speaker 1: play for my team man yeah like i cannot believe
- 28:43Speaker 1: that they i don't care what the luxury tag was
- 28:45Speaker 1: hitting on any of that i cannot believe they let
- 28:48Speaker 1: that do he looked like he was gonna be rookie
- 28:49Speaker 1: of the year last year yeah until he got hurt
- 28:52Speaker 1: and oklahoma city gets to have him for free Somebody
- 28:57Speaker 1: sent me a text, friend of the program, after his
- 28:59Speaker 1: team played Oklahoma City, and he was like, somebody's got
- 29:04Speaker 1: to take these dweebs out. They are the least cool,
- 29:08Speaker 1: great NBA team there's ever been.
- 29:10Speaker 2: It really is amazing because– If Shea wins another title
- 29:13Speaker 2: and wins another MVP and another title, another finals MVP,
- 29:17Speaker 2: we're all going to have to have some serious conversations
- 29:19Speaker 2: about how great he is.
- 29:21Speaker 1: He's there.
- 29:21Speaker 2: That none of us are going to like.
- 29:23Speaker 1: But, I mean, he has all the things.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Correct.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Right?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Like, if there were another MVP, another finals MVP, absurd
- 29:34Speaker 1: advance numbers. Winning titles with, I mean, it's a new era,
- 29:39Speaker 1: and there are very... good team, but I don't think
- 29:42Speaker 1: any of us thought Jalen Williams was the second best
- 29:44Speaker 1: player on a title team.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I don't think until that happened, either of us looked
- 29:48Speaker 1: at him in that way. No, the conversations, it's the
- 29:51Speaker 1: same thing it was with Jokic, where it was like, hey, man, the, what?
- 29:55Speaker 2: At some point, it's undeniable. Yeah, yeah, it is.
- 29:58Speaker 1: And boy, let me tell you, If we get Oklahoma
- 30:01Speaker 1: City-Denver in the second round, which is what it looks
- 30:04Speaker 1: like it might be, because they don't play the same position,
- 30:08Speaker 1: we won't really look at it the right way. But
- 30:11Speaker 1: that's a.
- 30:12Speaker 2: That's a heavyweight title fight.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a lose-or-leave town, right? But those are
- 30:17Speaker 1: still the two best players to me in the NBA, right?
- 30:21Speaker 1: And then the winner of that will get to go
- 30:24Speaker 1: play the future in the conference finals. That's what they...
- 30:28Speaker 1: Everybody called him the alien and everything else.
- 30:30Speaker 4: No, man.
- 30:31Speaker 1: He's the future. He's like flying cars were when we
- 30:36Speaker 1: watched the Jetsons. Like, oh, that's what the future's going
- 30:39Speaker 1: to be like. Except the future has population one.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It has just one. There's no one like him. Just
- 30:46Speaker 1: one dude. I told you, Harrison Barnes is like, how
- 30:49Speaker 1: do you look at pickup games like Wilt? He's 33
- 30:52Speaker 1: years old and the only point of comparison that he
- 30:55Speaker 1: has is Wilt Chamberlain. Oh man, we got a lot
- 31:00Speaker 1: of fun. And by the way, we also might get
- 31:03Speaker 1: Kawhi Leonard who's been balling his ass off. Balling.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Can't be a bummer. I'll believe it when I see it.
- 31:12Speaker 1: I don't blame you. I don't blame you.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I want to like, Game three. Reports that Kawhi Leonard,
- 31:20Speaker 2: this is fake me reading. She has this fake tweet
- 31:23Speaker 2: from a month from now. Reports are Kawhi Leonard will
- 31:25Speaker 2: miss this game with a mysterious lower leg injury. You know, like.
- 31:30Speaker 1: That's fair, but.
- 31:32Speaker 2: It would be fun, but he's playing out of his mind.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Allow me to tell you what's on the board. Best
- 31:39Speaker 1: of seven series. Kawhi Leonard returns to San Antonio.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I don't think about that.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And they'll lose this. I don't think they can beat
- 31:51Speaker 1: the Spurs, but he will go for 35 at night.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And that's, I can't believe how good he's been. I,
- 32:00Speaker 1: at his age.
- 32:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Siki. What is he?
- 32:02Speaker 3: 34.
- 32:02Speaker 1: This is year 15. I think he's 35. This is
- 32:07Speaker 1: year 15 with all those injuries that he has suffered.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Like I talk about going to those 2019 finals games.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I went to a couple of games in person. And
- 32:15Speaker 1: I don't know why the cameras never picked it up.
- 32:17Speaker 1: He was dragging one of those legs that whole series.
- 32:20Speaker 1: That was seven years ago. And, like, two catastrophic injuries
- 32:25Speaker 1: have transpired since then. And since Pablo got out here
- 32:29Speaker 1: in his business, he been out here hooping. Even though
- 32:32Speaker 1: they traded away. Like, what if they still had James Harden?
- 32:37Speaker 1: If they still had James Harden and they played against
- 32:38Speaker 1: the Spurs, you'd have to give them a chance.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Of winning, right?
- 32:43Speaker 2: Again, it's James Harden and Kawhi. It's just so tough.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I just said a chance. I just said a chance.
- 32:49Speaker 2: A chance, yes.
- 32:50Speaker 1: A chance. But yeah, no, no, no. We got some

- 36:43Speaker 2: We got you. Now, if you haven't heard, If you
- 36:48Speaker 2: haven't heard, Bo, a couple stories we're going to get to.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Bruce Pearl on CBS's coverage was advocating for his son's
- 36:55Speaker 2: Auburn team to be in the tournament. He had a quote,
- 36:58Speaker 2: Auburn beat three champions this year. They beat Florida, they
- 37:01Speaker 2: beat St. John's, and they beat Arkansas. They played the
- 37:03Speaker 2: toughest schedule in the country. Don't know if they were
- 37:06Speaker 2: rewarded for it. Bo, what was your reaction to this?
- 37:09Speaker 1: First of all, shout out to you, John Calipari, because
- 37:12Speaker 1: you were down bad. I mean bad. And you had
- 37:17Speaker 1: to take this demotion of a job where you got
- 37:20Speaker 1: to wear a funny looking coat. Well, the coat ain't
- 37:22Speaker 1: even really funny looking. It's a nice, it's a coat, but...
- 37:24Speaker 1: it's the kind of coat that the coach at Arkansas wears.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yes, it's the nicest coat someone has.
- 37:29Speaker 4: In Little Rock.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it's not to the Wimp
- 37:32Speaker 1: Sanderson level of coat, but it is the coat that, like,
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's the coat the coach at Arkansas wears because they
- 37:38Speaker 1: play in a big game. He would have never worn
- 37:40Speaker 1: that coat when he was coach at Kentucky. But you
- 37:42Speaker 1: won the SEC. You got a great player in the
- 37:44Speaker 1: A-cuff kid. Good for you. As for Bruce Pearl... Yes,
- 37:55Speaker 1: his son, who he should not have given the job
- 37:57Speaker 1: to in the first place, is the head coach at Auburn.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And he wants to give Auburn credit because they have beaten,
- 38:02Speaker 1: they have won games against the three champions. And I believe,
- 38:08Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, that he was directly, it's Miami
- 38:12Speaker 1: of Ohio that he was going for. The undefeated team
- 38:17Speaker 1: is the one that he was going for. Ryan, do
- 38:19Speaker 1: you know what Auburn's record is?
- 38:21Speaker 2: I'm going to guess 18 and 15.
- 38:25Speaker 1: They are, for this year, 17 and 16. Two and
- 38:33Speaker 1: eight on the road. And Bruce Pearl is sitting on
- 38:38Speaker 1: television trying to put them into the tournament. Did you
- 38:46Speaker 1: see him cussing at people during the SEC tournament?
- 38:48Speaker 2: Sure did.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Where was security? You know how much I would love
- 38:52Speaker 1: to see security? haul Bruce Pearl out of the building.
- 38:57Speaker 1: They never would. They never would. But we should talk
- 39:01Speaker 1: about something else because all I want to do is
- 39:02Speaker 1: say things about him that I shouldn't say about a
- 39:04Speaker 1: man that I don't know personally.
- 39:07Speaker 8: All right.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Speaking of people whose politics we don't agree with, Kanye West.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I was past that. By the way, it ain't just
- 39:12Speaker 1: that about him. It goes back well before I even
- 39:14Speaker 1: knew what his politics were.
- 39:15Speaker 2: All right.
- 39:15Speaker 1: It go back 40 years. I fucking hate that guy.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Speaking of well-documented assholes, Kanye West is set to perform
- 39:23Speaker 2: at SoFi Stadium April 1st and 3rd. um and yeah
- 39:29Speaker 2: two shows.
- 39:30Speaker 1: So we think that he can sell 70 000 tickets
- 39:36Speaker 1: twice or excuse me he not only does he think
- 39:41Speaker 1: that there is some promotional operation that thinks that he
- 39:47Speaker 1: can do that I mean, it's a Nazi rally, right? Like,
- 39:55Speaker 1: who else is going? His shit don't even slap. And
- 40:01Speaker 1: don't he be doing like the Nazi? Who's insuring this?
- 40:08Speaker 2: I had to re-Google because I saw the April 1st
- 40:10Speaker 2: date and thought about that holiday. But there's two of them.
- 40:17Speaker 2: There's two dates. So that, you know.
- 40:20Speaker 1: So as I recall, a part of the problem that
- 40:23Speaker 1: Kanye had been having was, you know, the way the
- 40:28Speaker 1: ticket game is so controlled. It didn't seem like anybody
- 40:31Speaker 1: was willing to book him. But somebody thinks they can
- 40:35Speaker 1: get him to buy.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I can't.
- 40:39Speaker 1: I'm going to be really disheartened if he could sell
- 40:41Speaker 1: that many tickets at this point.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's do these people not have Google?
- 40:48Speaker 1: Or is that the problem that they do? What is
- 40:52Speaker 1: that parking lot going to look like? What is that
- 40:56Speaker 1: crowd going to look like? And I feel very confident
- 40:58Speaker 1: saying a bunch of white dudes. Some of them with
- 41:02Speaker 1: chains hanging from their belts. You know what I'm.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Saying? Yeah, it's whatever is going on at SoFi when
- 41:11Speaker 2: Con is there. I am not.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Couldn't be me.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Not interested in any part of that. All right, with
- 41:19Speaker 2: the war in Iran going on, you've seen a lot
- 41:20Speaker 2: of things from the U.S. government almost treating this like
- 41:23Speaker 2: a video game, tweeting out AI-generated quips, celebrating their strikes via,
- 41:31Speaker 2: you know, through the presidents and many other politicians, social channels. Beau,
- 41:37Speaker 2: this caught your eye. What are your thoughts?
- 41:43Speaker 1: I would feel a little better about this whole situation.
- 41:47Speaker 1: if them boys in Iran didn't seem so completely unafraid, Ryan,
- 41:53Speaker 1: everything I see them say goes beyond tough talk into
- 41:57Speaker 1: that place where you'd be like, Hey man, leave them
- 41:58Speaker 1: alone though. Like, like, like they don't this, this, they're not,
- 42:05Speaker 1: they're not worried in the least about what it feels like.
- 42:09Speaker 1: They trying to dare the U S into like, it's,
- 42:14Speaker 1: it feels like, it's like when you dare, like, they
- 42:17Speaker 1: got eight men up on the line, and they throw it,
- 42:20Speaker 1: throw it. You say, you got it like that, throw it.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Or they put five men in the box. Like, hey,
- 42:25Speaker 1: it's right there, you can just run it. And little
- 42:27Speaker 1: do you know, they got a plan for that. Like,
- 42:30Speaker 1: this is not, this, this is going to take a while.
- 42:39Speaker 2: It always looks like it's going to go fast, and
- 42:40Speaker 2: it takes a lot longer than Yeah. Than people anticipated.
- 42:44Speaker 1: But it's entirely possible that this is going to go
- 42:47Speaker 1: long enough to lead us into, like, international economic ruin.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:52Speaker 1: That's the big one. With none of the ships being
- 42:54Speaker 1: able to go through the Strait of Hormuz, I think
- 42:56Speaker 1: that's how you say it. However you say it, that's
- 42:59Speaker 1: not the part that matters. You see what Trump said,
- 43:02Speaker 1: that the guys driving the oil tankers just need to
- 43:04Speaker 1: get some guts and drive their tanks through.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Hey, just stick it through that hole, see what happens.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Yeah, guts ain't bulletproof, homeboy.
- 43:10Speaker 3: No. Right?
- 43:11Speaker 1: Like, they are not... No, that's not. And by the way,
- 43:15Speaker 1: he wasn't talking about soldiers. Right. You can tell the
- 43:18Speaker 1: soldiers they need to toughen up. These people just work
- 43:20Speaker 1: for the oil company.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's, you know, they don't get paid that much.
- 43:25Speaker 1: No, no, no. They're not going to do this. This
- 43:28Speaker 1: is not. It's interesting. The news from the West looks
- 43:31Speaker 1: different than the news from the East. The news, the
- 43:33Speaker 1: news that is not from like the United States gives
- 43:35Speaker 1: the impression that this is not. It's like the U.S.,
- 43:40Speaker 1: They running against some boys that's out here running an
- 43:43Speaker 1: option that you've never seen. Like, you remember what it
- 43:45Speaker 1: was like, like the first time you saw Rich Rodriguez
- 43:47Speaker 1: in West Virginia? You're like, yo, that's the option, but
- 43:50Speaker 1: that's a whole new spin on that.
- 43:52Speaker 2: I remember the Darren McFadden days at Arkansas. Yeah, I
- 43:57Speaker 2: didn't realize they could do that. Like, to your point,
- 44:00Speaker 2: I didn't realize that was an option.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what's going on here. And this is what
- 44:04Speaker 1: we've got. And these gas prices are about to go
- 44:07Speaker 1: through the roof. There's a World Cup. That's about to
- 44:11Speaker 1: happen here. That sounds a little anxiety inducing.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:17Speaker 1: It's not what I thought life was going to be
- 44:22Speaker 1: like in my.
- 44:23Speaker 2: 40s, Ryan.
- 44:24Speaker 1: It's not.
- 44:27Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a couple of voicemails. A lot of
- 44:35Speaker 2: good ones. Here's our first.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
- 44:38Speaker 7: This is Curtis from Dallas, Texas.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Love your show.
- 44:41Speaker 7: Love everything that you're doing. I'm thinking about the hip-hop
- 44:44Speaker 7: segment that you've been doing, and I'm thinking about in 96,
- 44:49Speaker 7: when we think about the features of R & B
- 44:52Speaker 7: artists with some of these hip-hop tunes, kind of want
- 44:56Speaker 7: to get your take on it, and what are you
- 44:57Speaker 7: thinking of what are some of the best in 96
- 45:01Speaker 7: that were able to get with R & B artists?
- 45:03Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I just have to say that every single person involved
- 45:08Speaker 1: has an amazing level of faith. and my ability to
- 45:12Speaker 1: pull information off the top of my head is your
- 45:16Speaker 1: favorite R & B feature.
- 45:17Speaker 2: To be fair.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Specifically from the year.
- 45:20Speaker 2: To be fair, I did that too.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Yes.
- 45:22Speaker 1: I don't know. I was also talking about you.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Don't you worry, buddy. You were also involved in this.
- 45:32Speaker 1: And I feel a little bit lucky because I just
- 45:35Speaker 1: looked it up. And while it does not exactly fall
- 45:38Speaker 1: in this category, at the 23rd Annual American Music Awards
- 45:41Speaker 1: on January 29th, 1996, Mariah Carey performed Fantasy, and I
- 45:47Speaker 1: believe with the ODB remix, because that's the OG of them,
- 45:52Speaker 1: is that one. Which is to say, let's just give
- 45:56Speaker 1: that as the answer and let both slide.
- 45:58Speaker 2: See, I knew you'd get there.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I appreciate your faith in me
- 46:03Speaker 1: as well. A great way to spend that.
- 46:06Speaker 2: All right. Here's our next one that you'll enjoy a
- 46:08Speaker 2: lot more.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani. This is Adrian. I'm a longtime listener. And
- 46:14Speaker 4: I just had a question. You and I are around
- 46:18Speaker 4: the same age. I grew up in Tennessee. I'm a
- 46:22Speaker 4: black man who reveres Dr. King like yourself. But I've
- 46:27Speaker 4: always wondered when you're making fun of Morehouse, how easy
- 46:33Speaker 4: that was to Because when I first heard you do it,
- 46:36Speaker 4: I was shocked because I'm like, whoa, we don't talk
- 46:38Speaker 4: about Dr. King's alum like that. And then I realized, oh,
- 46:43Speaker 4: you know, you're from Atlanta. You went to Clark Atlanta University.
- 46:47Speaker 4: So was that just natural? Is that natural for someone
- 46:51Speaker 4: from Atlanta or who goes to, you know, Clark Atlanta
- 46:55Speaker 4: to just, hey, we're going to bang on that. We're
- 46:58Speaker 4: going to bang on Morehouse. Sorry, guys. Or was there
- 47:02Speaker 4: any kind of hesitation like, Outside looking in, I've always
- 47:06Speaker 4: wondered about that. You clearly revere the man, as we
- 47:10Speaker 4: all do, but those Morehouse jokes always hit and are hilarious,
- 47:15Speaker 4: but I just didn't know if that came natural or
- 47:18Speaker 4: if there was ever any kind of hesitation. Love the show.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Let me read something for you right fast. Ryan, I
- 47:27Speaker 1: don't think I sent this to you. The other day,
- 47:30Speaker 1: I went into the stranger box on my Instagram. I
- 47:33Speaker 1: rarely do that. Um, so rarely, like one of the
- 47:36Speaker 1: boxes I ain't even know was there. It was like
- 47:37Speaker 1: the hidden request box. And I rolled back. I went
- 47:40Speaker 1: back a long way because I was just seeing what
- 47:42Speaker 1: was in there. And I see this. I don't know
- 47:45Speaker 1: why I read it, but I did. Love your show,
- 47:50Speaker 1: but your intentional mispronunciation of wrestling, while funny in the early,
- 47:55Speaker 1: early days, now feels played. And I think you do
- 47:58Speaker 1: it because it annoys. Having dated someone from CAU, This
- 48:02Speaker 1: explains a great deal about both of you. I guess
- 48:05Speaker 1: I'll be the bigger person and just skip the episodes
- 48:08Speaker 1: where this happens and hope for better in a couple
- 48:11Speaker 1: of days. I knew the second I clicked on this
- 48:15Speaker 1: motherfucker's account and looked at his pictures that it would
- 48:18Speaker 1: be a goddamn Morehouse hoodie in here somewhere. And you
- 48:21Speaker 1: know what? It's there. It's there. And so I replied
- 48:27Speaker 1: to him and told him what he needed to hear,
- 48:30Speaker 1: which was... What a dork. What a dork. I just
- 48:39Speaker 1: couldn't believe. You a grown man watching wrestling. and you
- 48:45Speaker 1: going to try to be hoity-toity with me? How could
- 48:49Speaker 1: you possibly do that? You watch wrestling as a grown man.
- 48:53Speaker 1: You see the right to be snooty at that point.
- 48:57Speaker 1: If you're going to be snooty and wrestling, you have
- 49:00Speaker 1: to be the snooty wrestler. You got to be Lord
- 49:04Speaker 1: Steven Regal. You know what I'm saying? Like you got
- 49:06Speaker 1: to be, you got to actually be the character to
- 49:08Speaker 1: be that. I bring that up in response to what
- 49:11Speaker 1: that man said to say, does it come naturally? Do you,
- 49:16Speaker 1: see how they be acting? Because let me tell you something.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I never met Dr. King. Okay? But I met all
- 49:23Speaker 1: these other dudes that went to Morehouse. And let me
- 49:25Speaker 1: tell you something. Not one of them has ever reminded
- 49:28Speaker 1: me of Martin Luther King in any way whatsoever. So
- 49:32Speaker 1: is it hard for me to joke on Morehouse because
- 49:35Speaker 1: Martin Luther King went there? Brother, if Martin Luther King
- 49:38Speaker 1: was here, I'd have to joke on him because it
- 49:40Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense that he went there deep down.
- 49:44Speaker 1: What are you talking about? Look, I was actually thinking
- 49:47Speaker 1: about this, right? Because I think about King, and this
- 49:52Speaker 1: is bigger than King, right? This is broader, but even still.
- 49:58Speaker 1: King got shot on the balcony of a motel where
- 50:01Speaker 1: he was staying in Memphis. And the biggest contrast between
- 50:05Speaker 1: those days and now is that a man in the
- 50:08Speaker 1: position that Martin Luther King had been in, a man
- 50:09Speaker 1: who had won a Nobel Prize, right, was staying in
- 50:12Speaker 1: a motel. Like, whatever version of that is now is
- 50:16Speaker 1: probably riding first class, is probably staying at a super
- 50:19Speaker 1: fancy hotel and all of that, right? Like, that's the
- 50:22Speaker 1: dopeness of King is in part. Now, there's a lot
- 50:24Speaker 1: of factors there, obviously, but still. When they won the
- 50:27Speaker 1: Nobel Prize, he gave all the money to the movement. Like,
- 50:29Speaker 1: that's what kind of man he was, okay? You telling me?
- 50:34Speaker 1: How many of them Morehouse cats you know that be
- 50:37Speaker 1: trying to stay in no motel? And I say that
- 50:39Speaker 1: confidently because I wouldn't be trying to stay at that
- 50:41Speaker 1: motel myself, right? I'm just saying. What he got to
- 50:47Speaker 1: do with them?
- 50:51Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Hey, Bo.
- 50:55Speaker 3: This is Ed calling to you from San Antonio.
- 50:58Speaker 8: I used to live in Memphis many.
- 50:59Speaker 4: Many years ago.
- 51:00Speaker 3: At the time, I was doing TV installs back when
- 51:04Speaker 3: flat panel TVs were like $ 8, 000. So anyway, this is
- 51:08Speaker 3: early 2000s, and Jason White Chocolate Williams is on the Grizzlies,
- 51:14Speaker 3: and I get hired to head over to his house
- 51:18Speaker 3: to install some TVs.
- 51:20Speaker 8: I'd never met Jason before.
- 51:21Speaker 3: But Jason's wife was there, and she was really, really
- 51:23Speaker 3: nice and, like, really, really cool. She was really helpful
- 51:27Speaker 3: and a nice person, so she was helping me around there.
- 51:30Speaker 8: But she is a white lady whose name is Danika, D-E-N-I-K-A, Danika.
- 51:38Speaker 8: There's something sort of beautiful about white chocolate marrying a
- 51:42Speaker 8: white woman whose first name is Danika.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Shout out.
- 51:47Speaker 1: I was about to say, on brand, number one, number two,
- 51:49Speaker 1: and that is West Virginia different, man. I was about
- 51:54Speaker 1: to say, I feel very confident that they've been together
- 51:58Speaker 1: since 11th grade. Wow.
- 52:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I'd watch a Jason Williams documentary.
- 52:06Speaker 2: For sure.
- 52:07Speaker 1: We could go back with him to West Virginia and
- 52:09Speaker 1: catch up with some of the homies, the non-Randy Moss homies.
- 52:15Speaker 1: I'd watch.
- 52:16Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 52:18Speaker 6: Bo, this is Devin calling from Florida. Had to get
- 52:22Speaker 6: in on the naming trend. Had an appointment with a
- 52:27Speaker 6: client on Friday via Zoom. Never met the client.
- 52:31Speaker 4: I traded some voicemails.
- 52:33Speaker 6: Just knew that when I met with Letitia, I was
- 52:37Speaker 6: meeting with one of my own. Bo, when she answered
- 52:43Speaker 6: the line, my face must have said it all. Because
- 52:48Speaker 6: this was 100% the whitest Letitia I have ever seen
- 52:53Speaker 6: in my entire life. I'm talking dress bar white. This
- 52:58Speaker 6: lady must have seen my face because the first words
- 53:01Speaker 6: out of her mouth were, not what you expected, huh?
- 53:06Speaker 6: So after I picked up my face, put it back on,
- 53:09Speaker 6: had a great conversation.
- 53:11Speaker 7: She was cool.
- 53:12Speaker 6: We got everything done. But, yeah, was not expecting to
- 53:16Speaker 6: have that happen to me after all of the times
- 53:20Speaker 6: I've heard it talked about on the show. That's all.
- 53:23Speaker 6: Keep doing what you're doing. Love it. Ryan, love having
- 53:26Speaker 6: you on the program.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Talk to y'all later.
- 53:28Speaker 1: You know, the irony of it, Ryan, is in hearing him,
- 53:31Speaker 1: I thought that that was like a Dusty Rhodes type
- 53:33Speaker 1: white man. When he said, I thought it was one
- 53:36Speaker 1: of my own. I was like, oh, so you're not
- 53:38Speaker 1: one of... Oh, okay, cool.
- 53:39Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 53:41Speaker 1: We are scrambling all the brain wires.
- 53:44Speaker 2: For sure. It is very funny, the difference in those
- 53:48Speaker 2: calls between the two Americas.
- 53:50Speaker 3: It is.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Because One America calls and I was like, oh, look
- 53:54Speaker 2: at this. And then there's always like a element of
- 53:57Speaker 2: confusion from the other one. Like, I don't understand how
- 54:01Speaker 2: we got here.
- 54:02Speaker 1: And I love that we have a place that we
- 54:03Speaker 1: can all come together and discuss these things. Because what
- 54:05Speaker 1: I'm learning in this is y'all been waiting for the
- 54:07Speaker 1: place to feel comfortable to come out here and have
- 54:09Speaker 1: these discussions. Somebody to tell you it was okay.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my job to give everyone equal time.
- 54:14Speaker 1: There we go. Great job. It's a great job. It's appreciate.
