- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the World Series edition of Fair Territory.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm Ken Rosenthal here with my friend Alana Rizzo. We
- 0:08Speaker 1: are going to be talking all things World Series and
- 0:11Speaker 1: some other things regarding baseball as well as we always do. Alana,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I know we've all been to a number of World Series,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but I can tell you this every single time I'm excited,
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm fired up. And this one, I'm actually more fired
- 0:27Speaker 1: up than usual because the matchup is so interesting.
- 0:31Speaker 2: That is interesting, Ken. Good to be with you. And
- 0:33Speaker 2: it's interesting because I think these two teams play a
- 0:36Speaker 2: very similar brand of baseball. And no matter what happens,
- 0:39Speaker 2: a brand new champion will be crowned for the Fall Classic.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Let's get into it. On Deck presented by the Fox
- 0:47Speaker 2: One app. Ken, it's a good point that you bring
- 0:53Speaker 2: up because a lot of the fodder on X and
- 0:56Speaker 2: other social media sites is that nobody is going to
- 1:00Speaker 2: be excited about this World Series because it is not
- 1:02Speaker 2: a big gun competing. I disagree. I think it's actually
- 1:06Speaker 2: a reason to be excited because we are watching a
- 1:09Speaker 2: different brand of baseball and it's two teams that have
- 1:12Speaker 2: certainly earned the right to be here. Why should fans
- 1:15Speaker 2: be excited about this one?
- 1:16Speaker 1: First of all, it's the best team in each league. Now,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I get it if Dodger fans are upset that they
- 1:22Speaker 1: just went out. Guardians fans were upset that they just
- 1:24Speaker 1: went out. Yankee fans for losing to the Rays. Of course,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I understand all that. But if you're a fan of
- 1:31Speaker 1: this sport, if you enjoy watching this sport at its
- 1:34Speaker 1: highest level, we're talking about the team with the best
- 1:37Speaker 1: record in the American League and the team with the
- 1:39Speaker 1: best record in the National League. And Alana, as you said,
- 1:42Speaker 1: these are teams that play a very entertaining style, both
- 1:47Speaker 1: of them. And I've seen the conversation about analytics and
- 1:50Speaker 1: how this is an anti-analytics World Series. No, it is
- 1:54Speaker 1: exactly the opposite of that. These are two of the
- 1:57Speaker 1: leading teams in terms of technology, in terms of analytics,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and how those tools are applied, and yet they play
- 2:06Speaker 1: almost an old-school style. You'll see great defense. You'll see
- 2:10Speaker 1: running the bases in a way that you don't see
- 2:12Speaker 1: with other clubs. High on base, low chase in some regards. Obviously,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Brewers struck out quite a bit in the NLCS,
- 2:19Speaker 1: so the contact thing is maybe a little bit overrated
- 2:22Speaker 1: with them. But both these teams, quite exciting. So from
- 2:26Speaker 1: my perspective, if you are a fan of the game,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you should watch this. And I'll say this as well,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and I know I'm coming off as a shill for Fox,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but no, I'm really a shill for baseball here. And
- 2:38Speaker 1: I remember a couple of World Series games. where people
- 2:41Speaker 1: thought it wouldn't be that great as far as ratings.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Last year was one of them. We wouldn't have Toronto.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Canada doesn't figure into the ratings. And look what happened.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Seven-game World Series. It was amazing. And then I think
- 2:53Speaker 1: back to the 2015 Division Series. Now, I know I'm
- 2:56Speaker 1: dating myself. We're going back a ways. Texas versus Toronto.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And there was a lot of fretting. I know a
- 3:02Speaker 1: Maher group at Fox. People are going to watch this.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's Toronto, et cetera. And it was the five-game series
- 3:09Speaker 1: capped by Jose Bautista's amazing home run and the bat
- 3:13Speaker 1: flip and all of that. So if it's a good series,
- 3:17Speaker 1: if it goes six or seven, and if it's entertaining,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I actually believe the ratings will be fine. And again,
- 3:25Speaker 1: from a fan's perspective, if you don't want to watch,
- 3:27Speaker 1: of course, I get it if you're a fan of
- 3:29Speaker 1: another club. This is a regional sport. It's not the
- 3:31Speaker 1: Super Bowl where people just tune in. It's a national holiday.
- 3:34Speaker 1: But again, if you love baseball, this series is for you.
- 3:40Speaker 1: No doubt about it.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And some people, Ken, are saying that the reason this
- 3:43Speaker 2: World Series may not be as entertaining as some in
- 3:46Speaker 2: the past is because there's a lack of star power.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I disagree. When you say that, it just seems to
- 3:51Speaker 2: me like you're not paying attention to the players that
- 3:53Speaker 2: are in this World Series. There is definitely star power
- 3:56Speaker 2: to be seen.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That's a total disservice to the guys who are here. Now, granted,
- 4:01Speaker 1: they play in markets that don't receive as much attention
- 4:04Speaker 1: as New York, Los Angeles, even Chicago. But Junior Caminero
- 4:08Speaker 1: of the Rays likely will finish second in the MVP voting.
- 4:12Speaker 1: He is a 23-year-old star. No question about that. Yandy Diaz,
- 4:17Speaker 1: maybe not your classic definition of a star, but he's
- 4:20Speaker 1: been around for a while. He's a really good player,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and certainly he's a guy that has gotten a lot
- 4:26Speaker 1: of attention this postseason. Drew Rasmussen for the Rays, their
- 4:29Speaker 1: number one starter, has pitched like an ace, will be
- 4:32Speaker 1: top five Cy Young. That's a star. For the Brewers,
- 4:36Speaker 1: Churio is their version of Contreras. Different player, of course,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but a young, emerging superstar in the sport. Bryce Terang
- 4:44Speaker 1: was a darling of the Team USA coaching staff in
- 4:47Speaker 1: the World Baseball Classic. And you have William Contreras, and
- 4:52Speaker 1: of course you have The Miz. So there are stars here,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and there are players who are going to do big things.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I don't buy that argument at all. Again, it's a
- 5:00Speaker 1: matter of how closely you follow the game and whether
- 5:03Speaker 1: you enjoy the game. If you're just watching one team,
- 5:07Speaker 1: your favorite team, yeah, you might not know about these guys.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You might not have seen them a lot, but watching
- 5:13Speaker 1: this postseason, they've certainly stood out.
- 5:17Speaker 2: And you know that we're going to see Jacob Mizorowski,
- 5:19Speaker 2: game one starter for the Milwaukee Brewers, obviously very much
- 5:23Speaker 2: likely to be the Cy Young Award winner in the
- 5:25Speaker 2: National League. But you wrote an article recently in The
- 5:28Speaker 2: Athletic that is incredibly intriguing about how perhaps the Rays
- 5:35Speaker 2: should not go with Drew Rasmussen as their game one starter.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Well, we published this today, and my thinking, Alana, is
- 5:44Speaker 1: you want to give your starters as much rest as
- 5:46Speaker 1: possible at this time of year. And if they line
- 5:49Speaker 1: up Rasmussen, Peralta, Martinez, which is the obvious way to go,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Rasmussen has been their Game 1 starter in each of
- 5:56Speaker 1: the two previous series, then you've got Drew Rasmussen on
- 6:00Speaker 1: normal rest in this particular game, Game 1, and then
- 6:03Speaker 1: in Game 5. Not bad. If you want to go
- 6:05Speaker 1: with your best right away, okay, I get it. But...
- 6:09Speaker 1: If you go with Martinez game one, Rasmussen game two,
- 6:12Speaker 1: Freddy Peralta in game three, there are certain advantages to
- 6:16Speaker 1: be had. Number one, you give Rasmussen an extra day's rest,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and he has pitched on extra rest in each of
- 6:22Speaker 1: his postseason starts so far. You also give Martinez in
- 6:28Speaker 1: game one, or you take a guy, Martinez, in game
- 6:31Speaker 1: one and have him be the veteran stabilizer in that situation.
- 6:36Speaker 1: He's kind of the heartbeat of this team. He's the
- 6:38Speaker 1: leader in many ways. The guy who organizes the group dinners.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And he's unfazed. He will be unfazed. He's 36 years old.
- 6:45Speaker 1: He's pitched in Japan. He's pitched in the major leagues.
- 6:48Speaker 1: If anyone can handle a Game 1 assignment in the
- 6:50Speaker 1: World Series, it's Nick Martinez. He also has been really
- 6:53Speaker 1: good on the road. And then you say, well, what
- 6:55Speaker 1: about Freddy Peralta? If you do what I'm suggesting, Freddy
- 6:59Speaker 1: Peralta might only pitch once if it's a six-game series
- 7:02Speaker 1: and you lose. That's a problem, admittedly. But my thinking
- 7:06Speaker 1: is this. Freddy Peralta... in Milwaukee for game two in
- 7:11Speaker 1: his old home park, that would add to the emotions
- 7:15Speaker 1: of what, of course, would be an emotional start anyway
- 7:17Speaker 1: since he is pitching in the World Series. So put
- 7:21Speaker 1: him at home, where he has been absolutely dominant since
- 7:23Speaker 1: joining the Rays, and then go from there. I don't
- 7:26Speaker 1: know which way they're going to go. They've been debating this,
- 7:29Speaker 1: but I would not be surprised if they went Martinez, Rasmussen, Peralta,
- 7:33Speaker 1: because in the ALCS, remember, when the rainout occurred, before
- 7:38Speaker 1: game four, postponing that game, they had the chance to
- 7:41Speaker 1: bring Rasmussen back on normal rest for game four and
- 7:45Speaker 1: did not. They went with Martinez and then Rasmussen in five,
- 7:48Speaker 1: Peralta in six. Again, I would not be surprised if
- 7:51Speaker 1: they did that again.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Ken, could game one or should game one of the
- 7:56Speaker 2: World Series be a national holiday? The reason I ask
- 7:59Speaker 2: that is because you had mentioned the Super Bowl. Everybody
- 8:01Speaker 2: tunes in for that. It should be a national holiday.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Certainly the Monday afterward, nobody should have to go to
- 8:06Speaker 2: work Do you think baseball would benefit having kind of
- 8:09Speaker 2: the same type of hoopla surrounding game one?
- 8:13Speaker 1: To me, Alana, it's a different sport. And baseball should
- 8:16Speaker 1: not be trying to emulate the NFL and do what
- 8:20Speaker 1: the NFL does. The beauty of the sport that we
- 8:24Speaker 1: cover and watch and admire is that it is, in
- 8:28Speaker 1: its championship round, a best of seven. And it builds.
- 8:32Speaker 1: The drama can build. Of course, you have years where
- 8:34Speaker 1: it's not so dramatic. That is the beauty of it.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So to isolate one game like that and kind of
- 8:43Speaker 1: try to make it gimmicky and NFL-ish, I don't like
- 8:46Speaker 1: that idea, honestly. I like what we have and promoting
- 8:51Speaker 1: what we have. Hey, seven games here. We're going to
- 8:54Speaker 1: see who is the champion between the two best teams,
- 8:57Speaker 1: the two teams that are among the few that have
- 9:01Speaker 1: never won a World Series.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I agree with you wholeheartedly. Last year's World Series was
- 9:07Speaker 2: one of the most entertaining. Could have gone either way, obviously,
- 9:10Speaker 2: coming down to a game of inches, obviously a football
- 9:13Speaker 2: reference in Game 7. Is there a victor in terms
- 9:17Speaker 2: of a short series? Who do you think a short series,
- 9:19Speaker 2: if there is one, a four-game series, a five-game series,
- 9:22Speaker 2: who does it benefit, the Rays or the Brewers?
- 9:25Speaker 1: I'm not sure, Lana, and certainly you can make an
- 9:28Speaker 1: argument that Because the Rays have the deeper starting pitching,
- 9:32Speaker 1: they are better equipped to go in a long series.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Because what we'll see from the Brewers is Mizorowski and Henderson.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Games one and two, gas are likely in game three.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But you'll see the bullpen more in play. And then
- 9:44Speaker 1: eventually the bullpen, due to overexposure, might get hit in
- 9:48Speaker 1: a longer series. Didn't happen in the NLCS because, of course,
- 9:51Speaker 1: the Brewers swept. But when we talk about things like this,
- 9:56Speaker 1: when we do position by position breakdowns, when we add
- 10:00Speaker 1: it in all of these ways, I always think we're
- 10:04Speaker 1: wasting our time. And no disrespect to the people who
- 10:07Speaker 1: write those articles or think of these ideas, but the
- 10:10Speaker 1: way these things play out is almost never the way
- 10:13Speaker 1: we anticipate. So Certainly there are things to look at
- 10:17Speaker 1: going into a series, and this is one of them.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It's an interesting concept. Short series favors one team, long
- 10:22Speaker 1: series the other, but I'm just not sure it will
- 10:26Speaker 1: play out quite that way. The Rays' bullpen, if you
- 10:28Speaker 1: want to make the opposite case, is not as strong
- 10:32Speaker 1: as it has been in the past, so maybe in
- 10:34Speaker 1: a long series, even with good starters, that group gets
- 10:38Speaker 1: exposed and you don't succeed. Maybe the Rays' best chance
- 10:44Speaker 1: is if In the first three games and even in
- 10:47Speaker 1: game four with Griffin Jacks, you get lights out performances
- 10:50Speaker 1: from your starters and you avoid having to use the
- 10:53Speaker 1: bullpen much at all and you just win quickly. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't know. We're going to find out.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Earlier in the show, Ken, you were talking about star
- 11:02Speaker 2: power or lack thereof, and we disagree that there is
- 11:04Speaker 2: some star power in this series. So let me ask
- 11:07Speaker 2: you this. Can the Rays win the series if they suppress,
- 11:11Speaker 2: if they contain, if you will, the Brewers' big three
- 11:14Speaker 2: in terms of Diaz, Aranda, and Caminero?
- 11:18Speaker 1: That would be the Rays' big three, yes. But I
- 11:21Speaker 1: believe the Rays can win. Well, no, I believe the Brewers,
- 11:25Speaker 1: if they do that, if they contain those three guys
- 11:27Speaker 1: and Yeah, they stand a really good chance of winning
- 11:30Speaker 1: the series. If you remember the deadline, Alana, the Rays
- 11:34Speaker 1: were looking for one more bat because they felt they
- 11:36Speaker 1: relied too much on Diaz and Caminero and Aranda. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: Liam Hicks became that guy and really has filled that
- 11:43Speaker 1: role quite well for them. But their lineup is not
- 11:48Speaker 1: all that deep. You've seen some good moments from some
- 11:51Speaker 1: of their lesser hitters, no question, in this postseason. But
- 11:54Speaker 1: they basically need those three guys to hit. Now, at
- 11:57Speaker 1: the same time, the Brewers need their stars to hit
- 12:00Speaker 1: as well. And talking about Churrio and Contreras and Terang
- 12:04Speaker 1: and Bowers, their lineup is not all that deep in
- 12:07Speaker 1: some regards either. So generally speaking in these things, you
- 12:12Speaker 1: need your star players to perform. It doesn't always work
- 12:15Speaker 1: out that way. And maybe you get a Garrett Mitchell
- 12:17Speaker 1: going crazy or even a Jake Bowers, who I guess
- 12:19Speaker 1: was not a star, but is becoming one. So we'll
- 12:23Speaker 1: see how it plays out. But You're right. In this
- 12:26Speaker 1: particular case, both teams have linchpins that they do rely on,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and you would think those players have to produce for
- 12:34Speaker 1: those particular teams to win.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Crazy to think that Jake Bowers almost hung it up,
- 12:39Speaker 2: almost hung up the cleats, went back to baseball to
- 12:41Speaker 2: get health insurance for his family, ends up as the
- 12:44Speaker 2: NLCS MVP. MLB on Fox is streaming on Fox One.

- 13:46Speaker 2: It is time now for our Grill and Ken segment
- 13:48Speaker 2: where you have an opportunity to ask Ken a question.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, Ken. I'll start here. With
- 13:54Speaker 2: a World Series ring, is Kevin Cash building a Cooperstown resume?
- 13:59Speaker 2: I mean, he's a two-time AL Manager of the Year,
- 14:01Speaker 2: a 540 win percentage. Is he headed to the Baseball
- 14:05Speaker 2: Hall of Fame or should he be?
- 14:06Speaker 1: It's a great question. And my initial feeling would be no.
- 14:12Speaker 1: One World Series title is not enough. There have been
- 14:14Speaker 1: plenty of managers who have won one. If he ever
- 14:16Speaker 1: gets another, yes. But at the same time, we're talking
- 14:20Speaker 1: about the longest tenured manager in the game right now.
- 14:22Speaker 1: We're talking about a guy who's had great success with
- 14:25Speaker 1: a team that has had not only payroll challenges over
- 14:29Speaker 1: the years, but remember the stadium challenges when they lost,
- 14:32Speaker 1: of course, Tropicana Field for a year. All of the
- 14:36Speaker 1: things that have been in the way for the Tampa
- 14:39Speaker 1: Bay Rays to be successful. So one World Series certainly
- 14:43Speaker 1: would maybe start the conversation to would make it a
- 14:47Speaker 1: much more interesting conversation. But Alana, I'm glad you bring
- 14:51Speaker 1: this up because at the very least cash deserves a
- 14:54Speaker 1: lot of credit. And as does their president of baseball operations,
- 14:58Speaker 1: Eric Neander, they have navigated this team through some difficult times.
- 15:02Speaker 1: That includes the Wander Franco situation and not having him
- 15:05Speaker 1: after signing him long-term. And it includes the stadium situation,
- 15:09Speaker 1: which now will be resolved. They're going to move into
- 15:11Speaker 1: a new ballpark in a few years time. So the Rays,
- 15:15Speaker 1: what they've done is definitely deserving of a lot of praise.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And they're always in the postseason picture of a team
- 15:22Speaker 2: that is perennially in the playoffs. Let me ask you
- 15:26Speaker 2: this question, Ken. This is in terms of a rulebook question.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Can you explain why the Major League Baseball rulebook could
- 15:32Speaker 2: impact the Brewers' decision to add Brandon Woodruff to the roster?
- 15:36Speaker 2: I didn't even think this was a possibility.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Well... The possibility of Woodruff joining the roster, that's the
- 15:42Speaker 1: one that was really remote, right, Lana? Certainly when he
- 15:45Speaker 1: went out and had that shoulder issue and first said
- 15:48Speaker 1: that he's going to need shoulder surgery, which would have
- 15:50Speaker 1: been season-ending, you never anticipated he'd be in this position.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Hasn't pitched since July 4th, and yet he has worked
- 15:59Speaker 1: his way back. Turned out he healed quickly enough so
- 16:02Speaker 1: he didn't need surgery, and he went on a throwing progression,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and suddenly now, after throwing to live hitters Tuesday, is
- 16:10Speaker 1: a guy that at least they're thinking about for the roster. Now,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you ask about the rule, and I wrote about this
- 16:15Speaker 1: the other day. So here's the problem. The way the
- 16:19Speaker 1: rules work, if an injured player is replaced for an
- 16:24Speaker 1: injury he suffers during the particular series or something that
- 16:28Speaker 1: is acute, something that just comes up, he can be replaced.
- 16:32Speaker 1: If it is a situation where the injury is chronic
- 16:36Speaker 1: or recurring, Well, then you have a situation where in
- 16:40Speaker 1: the rules it says, no, you cannot replace the player.
- 16:42Speaker 1: And with Woodruff, if he went down after making one appearance,
- 16:46Speaker 1: for example, with a shoulder problem, well, that would not
- 16:49Speaker 1: be a new injury necessarily. He's coming off it. He's
- 16:52Speaker 1: had it, et cetera. So that's the concern the Brewers have.
- 16:57Speaker 1: They still might put him on because basically he means
- 17:01Speaker 1: a ton to this team and he has shown he
- 17:04Speaker 1: can get hitters out on lower velocities. At the same time,
- 17:08Speaker 1: this is the World Series, and you have to win.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You cannot be donating a roster spot, even to a
- 17:13Speaker 1: guy that you cherish the way the Brewers cherish Woodruff.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Ken, a couple part question here. Is he going to
- 17:20Speaker 2: be effective, considering it's been quite some time, and obviously
- 17:24Speaker 2: the stakes are much higher in the World Series, and
- 17:26Speaker 2: if he is placed onto the roster, who is the
- 17:28Speaker 2: pitcher that could be left off?
- 17:30Speaker 1: Well, how do you know if he's going to be effective?
- 17:32Speaker 1: That's really the question. He hasn't faced He hasn't been
- 17:35Speaker 1: in game competition since July 4th, and he's just now
- 17:39Speaker 1: facing live hitters, kind of effectively at the same place
- 17:42Speaker 1: a starting pitcher would be at the beginning of spring training.
- 17:46Speaker 1: As for who he would replace, Chad Patrick, Kyle Harrison,
- 17:49Speaker 1: these two guys have been on the roster, have not pitched,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I don't believe, either one of them in this postseason.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So that would be a place you could go, but again...
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'd rather have the healthy arm, the proven arm, than
- 18:03Speaker 1: this question of Woodruff. And here are the other things
- 18:06Speaker 1: with Woodruff. Could he go back-to-back days? Could he get
- 18:10Speaker 1: up and down a couple times during a game? How
- 18:13Speaker 1: would that all work out? It just seems like a
- 18:15Speaker 1: lot to ask. And the mere fact that he is
- 18:18Speaker 1: in position to do this is a tribute to him
- 18:21Speaker 1: and the work he's done. I just don't know if
- 18:24Speaker 1: there's enough time really to make him a viable part
- 18:28Speaker 1: of this team again.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of questions surrounding Big Woo at the
- 18:32Speaker 2: most critical point of the season. A lot has been made,
- 18:35Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal, of the ticket prices, particularly at American Family Field. Now,
- 18:40Speaker 2: this is a Brewers club, obviously, that hasn't been to
- 18:42Speaker 2: the World Series since 1982. I believe that's 44 years ago.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Ticket prices are high. It's not necessarily, to my understanding,
- 18:50Speaker 2: set by the team. Perhaps it's set by the league.
- 18:53Speaker 2: What are you hearing about these ticket prices, and do
- 18:55Speaker 2: you think there might be a dramatic drop-off as we
- 18:57Speaker 2: get closer to first pitch?
- 18:59Speaker 1: Well, I watched Marc Atanasio on a podcast with my friends,
- 19:03Speaker 1: Joel Sherman and John Heyman, and he's the Brewers owner,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and he was asked this very question. And what he
- 19:09Speaker 1: said was, this is the secondary market. I don't know
- 19:12Speaker 1: that the initial prices were what we're seeing on the
- 19:15Speaker 1: secondary market, $ 3, 000. In fact, they were not that high. Now,
- 19:19Speaker 1: World Series ticket prices are high, higher than they would
- 19:22Speaker 1: be for a regular season game. We all get that.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But there's a difference between that and the secondary market. So, yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 1: There is an amazing demand in Milwaukee, as you might expect,
- 19:32Speaker 1: for a city that is experiencing its first World Series
- 19:35Speaker 1: in 44 years and the chance for its team to
- 19:38Speaker 1: win for the first time. But I don't know that
- 19:41Speaker 1: we can blame anyone at Major League Baseball or the
- 19:44Speaker 1: Brewers for that. It seems to me that is supply
- 19:47Speaker 1: and demand and it's occurring on the secondary market. market.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I can tell you the tailgating is going to be epic.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I lived in Wisconsin for three years. Obviously, you and
- 19:55Speaker 2: I are both in Milwaukee right now, and the tailgating,
- 19:59Speaker 2: even for a random regular season game on a Tuesday,
- 20:02Speaker 2: is fantastic. I can only imagine the brats and the
- 20:05Speaker 2: cheese curds that are going to be happening before game one.
- 20:08Speaker 2: We are crowning our dudes and dorks of the week next,
- 20:10Speaker 2: right after this.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Cratch, it's that time of year where all the sports
- 20:15Speaker 4: are pretty much going right now, from the baseball playoffs,
- 20:18Speaker 4: which obviously on foul territory we love, NCAA football, there's
- 20:21Speaker 4: huge games this weekend, conference games. There's NBA starting, NHL
- 20:26Speaker 4: is going, and the NFL is in full swing right now.
- 20:29Speaker 4: So if I need to get tickets because I go
- 20:31Speaker 4: everywhere and I go to a lot of games, I
- 20:32Speaker 4: use SeatGeek.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I don't need to go everywhere. I just need to
- 20:36Speaker 5: go to the World Series. Maybe I got to go
- 20:38Speaker 5: see LeBron play too. So I just scroll across. I
- 20:42Speaker 5: figure out where the best place to watch the game is.
- 20:45Speaker 5: SeatGeek's got me.
- 20:46Speaker 4: That's right. Red dot. Bad deal, they think. Green dot,
- 20:50Speaker 4: great deal.
- 20:50Speaker 1: But you get to choose.
- 20:52Speaker 4: That's the one great thing about SeatGeek. And of course,
- 20:55Speaker 4: we have a code. Kratz and I have a code
- 20:56Speaker 4: for you. You can use code TERRITORY10 for 10% off
- 21:00Speaker 4: your next set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% off
- 21:03Speaker 4: all tickets with promo code TERRITORY10. Make sure you click
- 21:06Speaker 4: the link in the description to download the app and
- 21:09Speaker 4: have the code automatically added to your account so you
- 21:11Speaker 4: can use it later.
- 21:16Speaker 2: After the World Series Game 1, come back to the
- 21:18Speaker 2: Foul Territory YouTube channel for a live post-game show. We'll
- 21:22Speaker 2: unpack who struck first in the Fall Classics. Subscribe on
- 21:26Speaker 2: YouTube and never miss an episode. FT, we never stop.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me.
- 21:33Speaker 2: All right, Ken, it is time now to crown your
- 21:41Speaker 2: Dude of the Week. Who are you taking?
- 21:44Speaker 1: I've got two of them. And it's the LCS MVPs,
- 21:47Speaker 1: Jake Bowers and Freddie Peralta. Jake Bowers, you touched on
- 21:51Speaker 1: this earlier. What an amazing story. The guy was thinking
- 21:54Speaker 1: about retiring just a couple of years ago and has
- 21:57Speaker 1: now transformed himself into a potential free agent who's going
- 22:01Speaker 1: to make a lot of money. So Jake Bowers, those
- 22:05Speaker 1: two at-bats in the NLCS were absolutely epic. One ended
- 22:09Speaker 1: in a walk, the other in a home run off
- 22:11Speaker 1: Blake Snell. And frankly, it was just electric to see.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Freddy Peralta, we saw what happened in the first half
- 22:18Speaker 1: of the season with the New York Mets, and suddenly
- 22:21Speaker 1: he's back to being Freddy Peralta again, if not a
- 22:24Speaker 1: better version. He's throwing even harder than before. So I
- 22:28Speaker 1: love guys who kind of come off the mat and
- 22:32Speaker 1: revive their careers. These two did it in different ways,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but for that, they're my dudes of the week.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah, good call there on both of those guys. You
- 22:40Speaker 2: can't go wrong. I'm going to stick with the Brewers,
- 22:42Speaker 2: but in a different way. I'm going to say congratulations
- 22:45Speaker 2: on such a classy move that they did with all
- 22:47Speaker 2: of the champagne bottles for a couple of different times.
- 22:51Speaker 2: You had one that had a bunch of different towns
- 22:55Speaker 2: here in Wisconsin on the Champagne. on the bottles. And
- 22:58Speaker 2: then you had, after they clinched to go to the
- 23:00Speaker 2: World Series, all names of former and current players. Sophia
- 23:04Speaker 2: Minniter does an amazing job. She's a friend of mine.
- 23:06Speaker 2: She's the sideline reporter for the Brewers with this photo
- 23:10Speaker 2: on X. Eric Kratz, our own Eric Kratz, Ken Rosenthal,
- 23:14Speaker 2: even got a champagne label. So, you know, they're really
- 23:16Speaker 2: digging deep into the pockets there of doing that. But
- 23:19Speaker 2: congratulations to everybody that's been a part of this franchise. Obviously,
- 23:23Speaker 2: it's super cool. All right, time now for our Dork
- 23:26Speaker 2: of the Week. All right, Ken, who do you have
- 23:38Speaker 2: as your dork of the week?
- 23:40Speaker 1: The New York Yankees. Now, Alana, I am generally of
- 23:45Speaker 1: the belief that you give a team enough chances in
- 23:48Speaker 1: the postseason, they're eventually going to break through. It's like
- 23:50Speaker 1: a struggling hitter. Give him enough chances and he'll eventually
- 23:53Speaker 1: find himself if he is a quality player. Barry Bonds,
- 23:56Speaker 1: Aaron Judge, etc. Now, the Yankees are... that team, right?
- 24:01Speaker 1: They have not broken through. We've seen the Dodgers do it.
- 24:04Speaker 1: We've now seen the Brewers and Rays do it. Finally
- 24:06Speaker 1: get to the point where they are in the World
- 24:09Speaker 1: Series and in one case here going to win the
- 24:11Speaker 1: World Series. The Yankees have not. And repeatedly under Aaron Boone,
- 24:17Speaker 1: they have failed against teams in the postseason that were
- 24:20Speaker 1: either equal or better. So yesterday they have their press
- 24:25Speaker 1: conference announcing Boone's return, Cashman getting extended. And listen, Both
- 24:31Speaker 1: those guys are really good at what they do. I
- 24:33Speaker 1: know people don't feel that way about Aaron Boone, but
- 24:35Speaker 1: he actually had one of his best regular seasons, giving
- 24:38Speaker 1: all the injuries that they had. And Cashman has put
- 24:41Speaker 1: a winning team on the field year after year after year.
- 24:44Speaker 1: That said, I understand the frustration of Yankee fans who
- 24:48Speaker 1: are asking, what are we doing? Why are we doing
- 24:52Speaker 1: this over and over again when it's the same ending
- 24:56Speaker 1: every year? Hal Steinbrenner, the owner, Put it on the players.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Blame the hitters yesterday. Well, who picks the hitters? Who
- 25:05Speaker 1: manages the hitters? That's Boone. I don't know. I don't
- 25:09Speaker 1: advocate or like to advocate for people getting fired. But
- 25:12Speaker 1: in this particular case, it sure seemed like change was necessary.
- 25:16Speaker 1: And it sure seemed like at some point, you can't
- 25:20Speaker 1: let the fans run the team. But their fans are
- 25:23Speaker 1: so exasperated by what has happened in recent years. Maybe
- 25:27Speaker 1: their voice needs to be heard in a greater way
- 25:29Speaker 1: than it has been.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit of a definition of insanity there,
- 25:33Speaker 2: expecting a different result by doing the same exact thing.
- 25:36Speaker 2: My dork of the week has kind of changed over
- 25:38Speaker 2: the course of the evening, and I would like your
- 25:40Speaker 2: opinion about this. Originally, I went with the Yankees as well,
- 25:43Speaker 2: and then I changed it to the Angels, Ken, in
- 25:45Speaker 2: terms of not being able to bring Kurt Suzuki back.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And I understand that he was tied to Perry Menezian, obviously,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and now there is a new ownership group. taken over
- 25:57Speaker 2: by Stan Kroenke. And to Stan Kroenke's credit, he wants
- 26:00Speaker 2: to win, which I believe is different than the whole
- 26:02Speaker 2: Artie Moreno regime. But I kind of feel bad for
- 26:04Speaker 2: Kurt Suzuki that he was just kind of there for
- 26:07Speaker 2: one year. Perhaps he knew what he was signing up for.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I just, you know, the angels are going to angel.
- 26:12Speaker 2: But then again, it's a new ownership group and they
- 26:14Speaker 2: want to bring in their whole new staff. I mean,
- 26:16Speaker 2: I'm interested in your opinion. I mean, was this something
- 26:19Speaker 2: that to you would be expected that it was just
- 26:21Speaker 2: a kind of a one and done deal for Suzuki?
- 26:26Speaker 1: He had to know what he was getting into. He
- 26:28Speaker 1: signed a one-year contract, and Barry Manassian was someone who
- 26:32Speaker 1: certainly you could envision possibly getting fired. So I was
- 26:37Speaker 1: not surprised at all by this news, even though Mozelek
- 26:41Speaker 1: had publicly supported Kurt Suzuki. And I would not be
- 26:45Speaker 1: surprised if John Mazalek as the interim general manager is
- 26:48Speaker 1: replaced as well. This is a new ownership group. They
- 26:51Speaker 1: want to do things differently. You certainly can understand a
- 26:54Speaker 1: desire by new Angels owners to want to do things
- 26:56Speaker 1: a little bit differently than in the past. So I
- 27:00Speaker 1: was not surprised. And listen, Kurt Suzuki is a great guy.
- 27:04Speaker 1: He has a chance to be a good manager in
- 27:07Speaker 1: the right situation. And it just didn't work out for
- 27:10Speaker 1: him there, which was something that did not really surprise anyone.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I guess you can't fault Kroenke Sports for
- 27:17Speaker 2: wanting to win, and Angels fans should certainly be excited
- 27:20Speaker 2: about that. Well, Kenny, appreciate it as always. I look
- 27:22Speaker 2: forward to seeing you at the field later on today.
- 27:24Speaker 2: That is it for us. Foul Territory is coming up
- 27:27Speaker 2: at 1 p.m.
