Transcript
- 0:00Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 72.
- 0:03Dayna Roselli: A huge rock concert is announced for Allegiance Stadium.
- 0:07Dayna Roselli: Hint, it's in August, not in the November rain.
- 0:10Sean McAllister: Ooh, and finally a date is set for the electric daisy carnival.
- 0:15Sean McAllister: Conventions pick up business on the strip, and you'll have to pay a pretty penny to park at Allegiance Stadium for Raiders games.
- 0:23Dayna Roselli: And in our exclusive poll, what are you willing to pay for parking?
- 0:28Dayna Roselli: We asked and you've responded.
- 0:31Dayna Roselli: Plus, our 4th of July is gonna look a little bit like New Year's Eve.
- 0:35Dayna Roselli: We'll explain what that's all about.
- 0:36Sean McAllister: Let's spin that wheel.
- 0:50Sean McAllister: Thanks for pushing play on Vegas Revealed.
- 0:52Sean McAllister: After an absolutely jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, we're already looking ahead to the next insanely packed holiday weekend here in Las Vegas.
- 1:04Sean McAllister: Thanks for listening.
- 1:05Sean McAllister: I'm Sean McAllister.
- 1:07Dayna Roselli: And I'm Dana Roselli, and Sean is talking about the Fourth of July, which is always a big event.
- 1:12Dayna Roselli: It's in the middle of summer.
- 1:13Dayna Roselli: Well, it's our it's the middle of our summer because we've already been hot for months.
- 1:17Dayna Roselli: But uh 4th of July, always a big deal, especially when it does land on a weekend.
- 1:21Dayna Roselli: And this year it's on a Sunday.
- 1:23Sean McAllister: Yeah, and it's going to be a 4th of July, like we've really never seen here in Las Vegas before.
- 1:30Sean McAllister: Usually down on the strip, there might be a property or two that decide to set off fireworks on their own.
- 1:37Sean McAllister: But this year, there's gonna be a big concerted effort to let all of Las Vegas and the entire world know that we are back.
- 1:47Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 1:48Dayna Roselli: It's it's something that they're going to do that to me resembles New Year's Eve.
- 1:53Dayna Roselli: On New Year's Eve, you know, and I don't know, it doesn't say uh in the details if they're going to actually close down like the strip to actual driving traffic or not, but they are having a fireworks show at 11 p.m.
- 2:07Dayna Roselli: and a number of resorts, including Aria, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Resorts World, the Strat, and Treasure Island and the Venetian, all taking part in this coordinated fireworks display off the rooftops at 11 p.m.
- 2:24Sean McAllister: So this is, like you said, Dana, what we would normally see on New Year's Eve with so many properties doing this coordinated fireworks show.
- 2:34Sean McAllister: So I would imagine that they would have to close down the strip.
- 2:37Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 2:37Dayna Roselli: Or a section where people can stand and look up, you know, at least of the I mean, because Caesars Palace usually does fireworks, but I think it's like shortly after it gets dark.
- 2:45Dayna Roselli: So this 11 p.m.
- 2:47Dayna Roselli: time is interesting.
- 2:48Sean McAllister: It is.
- 2:48Sean McAllister: And usually uh Caesars will have kind of a VIP party for for their players, their whatever at out at the pool.
- 2:58Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 2:59Sean McAllister: They'll have a place sectioned off where uh, you know, they'll and have invited guests come and watch the fireworks that are being shot off.
- 3:07Sean McAllister: And of course, you can see them if you're standing down on the strip somewhere, but usually there's traffic, and hopefully that's not going to be the case this year.
- 3:15Dayna Roselli: Well, it's interesting because they are celebrating the return of live entertainment, and they are also just listing off, you know, all the shows that Las Vegas has coming to town, uh, the shows that are in town that weekend.
- 3:28Dayna Roselli: And I wonder if, because some of those shows will be taking place at around that nine o'clockish time when it's first dark, um, that they want to wait till those are over, you know, because Bruno Mars is playing at Park MGM and then Miley Cyrus is doing this performance over at Resorts World, and apparently we're gonna be able to see it because they have a huge screen on the outside of the building, and the concert's gonna be kind of broadcast from there.
- 3:54Sean McAllister: Well, and when we say that there's a huge screen on the side of the building, it's essentially the entire side of the building that is a screen.
- 4:01Sean McAllister: Because I live, I don't know, maybe what would you say, 10 miles off of the strip in the suburbs.
- 4:09Sean McAllister: I can see clear as day, I can see what is on the side of Resorts World from one of the parks near my house.
- 4:18Sean McAllister: That's insane.
- 4:19Sean McAllister: Like I could never when we were standing there, we took the dog to the park, and I looked down and I was like, what in the world is that?
- 4:27Sean McAllister: And I was flabbergasted that I could actually see what was on the side of Resorts World.
- 4:33Dayna Roselli: You must have 2020 vision.
- 4:35Sean McAllister: I do.
- 4:37Dayna Roselli: See?
- 4:38Dayna Roselli: But yeah, it's gonna be well, then you can just sit in the park and watch the concert.
- 4:41Dayna Roselli: Have a lot of fun.
- 4:42Dayna Roselli: There we go.
- 4:42Sean McAllister: I don't have to go to the strip.
- 4:44Dayna Roselli: But yeah, I bet the fireworks works will be really cool from that park down here.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: Oh yeah.
- 4:48Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, it seems like, you know, you'll be able to see it, you know, Las Vegas, if you've never been or you you visit and you don't realize, very flat.
- 4:55Dayna Roselli: So we can see far uh at all times.
- 4:59Dayna Roselli: So it's cool because you can be on one side of town and see exactly what's going on right in the center of town.
- 5:03Dayna Roselli: So these fireworks will be visible to a lot of people.
- 5:07Dayna Roselli: And again, that's at 11 p.m.
- 5:09Dayna Roselli: on the 4th of July, Las Vegas celebrating entertainment is back.
- 5:15Sean McAllister: And uh it's quite evident that entertainment and Las Vegas is back.
- 5:20Sean McAllister: Uh after, as we mentioned, it was a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend.
- 5:25Sean McAllister: There were videos and pictures that we saw from pools and nightclubs.
- 5:32Sean McAllister: And I have mixed emotions about it, Dana.
- 5:35Sean McAllister: I'm glad that people are back.
- 5:37Sean McAllister: But personally, I don't want to be like right in the middle of the madness.
- 5:43Dayna Roselli: I mean, listen, it's all personal choice, right?
- 5:45Dayna Roselli: And this was actually the video um that we're gonna talk about is actually from last like Friday night, the fourth, so it's the weekend after Memorial Day.
- 5:54Dayna Roselli: So it wasn't even like I can only imagine Memorial Day was worse.
- 5:57Dayna Roselli: But remember, we went to 100% capacity on June 1st.
- 5:59Dayna Roselli: They waited till right after Memorial Day weekend.
- 6:02Dayna Roselli: So this is like the clear picture of what Las Vegas is going to look like on a weekend.
- 6:09Dayna Roselli: And it was Omni and Nightclub at Caesars Palace, and they had one of their Insta stories up, and I said to Sean, I was like, you gotta see this, but it was jam-packed, people jumping up and down, shoulder to shoulder, the whole dance floor packed, and I was like, wow, that's a lot.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: And it's weird.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: It makes me like kind of I don't know, it just gives me a little anxiety, but I I know so many people are thrilled about it, and if everyone's there, not everyone, but the people who were there, then they're fine with it.
- 6:37Sean McAllister: Well, and uh for me, it's got nothing even to do with coronavirus.
- 6:42Sean McAllister: I think it's just the idea of being in like the middle of a dance floor at a nightclub with a sea of people surrounding you, and it's all hot and sweaty, and you're getting jostled around.
- 6:57Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 6:57Sean McAllister: I'm just too old for that.
- 6:58Dayna Roselli: Well, yeah, that was never enticing, right, to begin with.
- 7:01Dayna Roselli: And then you add on coronavirus and no masks and all that, and you're like, wow, um, all right, it's a lot to process, but it's allowed, we're doing well, and we'll see what happens.
- 7:13Sean McAllister: It's happening.
- 7:14Sean McAllister: Give me a table and bottle service any day.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 7:17Dayna Roselli: But it is interesting, it is weird to look at those things and feel differently after this year has gone by, where we would never even think about it in the past.
- 7:27Sean McAllister: You know, so we compare uh an absolutely jam-packed nightclub with a jam-packed arena, which we've seen as the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs goes on.
- 7:39Sean McAllister: T-Mobile Arena, where the Golden Knights play, is back to full capacity with no masks for people who are vaccinated.
- 7:48Sean McAllister: And uh I've that Dana gave me goosebumps to see the entire arena packed again.
- 7:56Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 7:56Dayna Roselli: See, that didn't and and I thought that was great.
- 7:58Dayna Roselli: That didn't bother me, you know why?
- 7:59Dayna Roselli: Because it's so open and airy and I don't know, it's just a little bit different, but boy, it did give so many people, you're right, chills.
- 8:07Dayna Roselli: I mean, just hearing the crowd, seeing the pictures, and the Golden Knights tweeting out a picture just the other night when the arena was full at 18,081 guests at the game.
- 8:19Dayna Roselli: And they were like, This is insane, the crowd's going wild.
- 8:23Dayna Roselli: And that was the night that one of our players had a hat trick.
- 8:26Dayna Roselli: Yes, and all the hats got thrown on the ice.
- 8:29Dayna Roselli: And I was listening to the commentators and they were saying, well, usually they would donate those hats, but now with the whole COVID thing, I don't know what they'll do with them.
- 8:35Dayna Roselli: So how things have changed, you know, because you can't, you know, with someone else who's wearing it, they can't pass it on, and that kind of thing.
- 8:42Dayna Roselli: But even but anyway, there were so many hats on the ground because it was full again.
- 8:46Sean McAllister: It was, and there were some celebrities in the crowd.
- 8:48Sean McAllister: We saw Mr.
- 8:49Sean McAllister: Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, who was side by side with Lil John.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: It's always a fun picture moment.
- 8:57Sean McAllister: It is.
- 8:57Sean McAllister: Those two seem like they're they're buddies, don't they?
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: It's a strange pairing from the outside, but you know.
- 9:03Sean McAllister: And the hometown tennis star Andre Agassi was also there.
- 9:07Sean McAllister: He was putting out Twitter videos about how excited he was to be in the crowd and all the excitement that was there.
- 9:13Sean McAllister: So we love seeing our celebrities or our local celebrities getting in on all the Golden Knights action.
- 9:20Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, it it that does feel good to see that.
- 9:23Dayna Roselli: Uh, something else that's happening this weekend, and I'm talking about because it depends when you're listening.
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: So the weekend may have passed for you, or you're listening on the weekend, but Virgin Hotel is doing finally a big, unstoppable weekend.
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: That's what they're calling it, and Sir Richard Branson is coming into town, and they have Christina Aguilera performing, Flowrida, and Mixmaster Mike.
- 9:49Dayna Roselli: And that took place on Thursday, June 10th.
- 9:52Dayna Roselli: It kind of kicks off the weekend celebration, and then they have all these different things planned the whole weekend.
- 9:57Sean McAllister: So that'll be a four-day weekend that is kind of the official grand opening, I guess, of Virgin, even though we had like the doors opening uh kind of celebration, and this is, you know, obviously the guy at the head of the Virgin brand is coming into town for this one.
- 10:16Dayna Roselli: And listen, we're hoping that this will do something for that property because all we're hearing is that the casino floor is a ghost town on the weekends.
- 10:24Dayna Roselli: We hate to see it, we hate to hear it because we want every property to do well.
- 10:29Dayna Roselli: We love all our friends and and family members that work there.
- 10:32Dayna Roselli: We have a lot of people that we know that work at Virgin that were either working at the Hard Rock before or got a new job at Virgin, and we want the property to do well.
- 10:41Dayna Roselli: It just seems like it hasn't had the best start.
- 10:45Sean McAllister: Yeah, I I think that from what I've heard from some insiders over there is that there are still some some wrinkles that need to be ironed out.
- 10:55Sean McAllister: And hopefully they are things that need to that can be ironed out and you know, smooth sailing.
- 11:02Sean McAllister: We've also heard that there are big groups of people coming in from out of town for this uh opening four-day extravaganza.
- 11:11Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 11:12Dayna Roselli: There are a lot of things planned, and I think I mentioned in a previous podcast I did a story on that Aliyah Beach Club, and that's the pool area that seems really cool.
- 11:21Dayna Roselli: That's kicking off this weekend as well.
- 11:23Dayna Roselli: So it's it's outside of the actual resorts pool.
- 11:26Dayna Roselli: It's kind of the private day club area, and they're gonna do some events at night.
- 11:31Dayna Roselli: Two things I have heard great things about uh the Shag Room where Sky D.
- 11:36Dayna Roselli: Miles performs and a bunch of other entertainers.
- 11:40Dayna Roselli: Apparently, she brings the house down over there, and and that's a really cool lounge atmosphere.
- 11:44Dayna Roselli: And then the steakhouse everyone's raving about too.
- 11:47Sean McAllister: Yeah, uh Sky D.
- 11:49Sean McAllister: Miles, who you just mentioned, you may uh recognize her from Roserabbit Lie, which was over at the Cosmopolitan.
- 11:57Sean McAllister: That was kind of the uh dinner in a show, kind of a cabaret vibe.
- 12:02Sean McAllister: You would go in for dinner, they'd have live performers throughout the entire venue, and Skye was one of the featured performers at Rose Rabbit Lie.
- 12:12Sean McAllister: That venue was a casualty of you know the pandemic that shut down.
- 12:18Sean McAllister: Uh so far, we have not heard that it's coming back.
- 12:21Sean McAllister: But Skye, fortunately, was able to, you know, get a great gig over at the Shag Room.
- 12:28Sean McAllister: And and we've talked with people who say like she makes that place.
- 12:32Dayna Roselli: She does.
- 12:33Dayna Roselli: She's amazing.
- 12:34Sean McAllister: She pretty much she makes any room that she walks into, doesn't she?
- 12:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, she's an amazing singer, amazing performer, and she just uh her personality is is something that makes everyone uh puts everyone in a good mood.
- 12:47Dayna Roselli: It's a good night out.
- 12:49Sean McAllister: We need to put Skye on our Vegas Revealed guest list.
- 12:52Sean McAllister: We need to sit down with Skye and have a good chat.
- 12:54Dayna Roselli: She's she's a riot, and she is super, super talented.
- 12:59Dayna Roselli: Um something else announced is Electric Daisy Carnival.
- 13:03Dayna Roselli: That's back on.
- 13:04Dayna Roselli: Now it was never off, but it was postponed, wasn't it?
- 13:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's been postponed a couple times.
- 13:09Sean McAllister: I believe it was set for uh the spring, and they had to move it back, and it was kind of indefinitely postponed, and now they have just announced dates in October, the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and that is happening once again up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- 13:31Sean McAllister: And if you're not uh familiar with the uh electric daisy carnival, EDC as it's known, it's uh this essentially a massive rave with some of the biggest DJs in the world, but there is uh this festival kind of carnival environment that is created around these electronic music sets by these famous DJs, and it really is a unique and one-of-a-kind experience.
- 14:01Dayna Roselli: Yes, and uh, you know what?
- 14:03Dayna Roselli: I'm just gonna admit I've never been.
- 14:04Dayna Roselli: It is one thing that I have not been to as long as I've lived here in Las Vegas.
- 14:09Dayna Roselli: Um doesn't appeal to me, but I totally get that it appeals to a lot of people, and we see the masses come in for this.
- 14:16Dayna Roselli: It's huge, and people have been waiting and holding their breath, going, please don't cancel EDC.
- 14:21Dayna Roselli: We want, you know, we want another one.
- 14:23Dayna Roselli: They love it in Las Vegas.
- 14:24Dayna Roselli: Uh we have the motor speedway, it's a great location.
- 14:26Sean McAllister: Yeah, I I've there were two separate years that I went, and I mean, we're talking about I think 300,000 people across those three days who come in for for this incredible music event, and it really is an environment of like it's almost uh kind of a modern Woodstock, I would say.
- 14:51Sean McAllister: Like people are there for for friendship, for love, like there's just a good vibe around the whole experience.
- 14:59Sean McAllister: But it is, I mean, it starts at I think nine or ten o'clock at night, and then it goes all night long.
- 15:05Sean McAllister: And so people are coming back.
- 15:07Sean McAllister: If you're staying on the strip while it's going on in October, you're gonna be going down for breakfast, and these people in their furry boots and tutus are gonna be coming back from their night of partying.
- 15:17Dayna Roselli: No, it's true.
- 15:17Dayna Roselli: So the one thing I I've never actually been, but the one thing that I did do is I worked as a morning news anchor for many, many years here in town, and our live helicopter shot every Monday morning after EDC was exactly that.
- 15:31Dayna Roselli: We would go overhead and you'd see all the outfits, the slow roll, some people maybe taking a nap near their car before they pull out and go home, the little campers, uh, the whole nine, and it was uh fun to watch.
- 15:45Sean McAllister: It it is uh an interesting sightseeing uh experience for those not taking part.
- 15:51Dayna Roselli: And and the fashion changes, but a lot of it does stay the same, and you're right.
- 15:55Dayna Roselli: The furry boots seem to be uh a staple.
- 15:57Sean McAllister: I know.
- 15:58Sean McAllister: I don't know what it is about the furry boots.
- 16:00Dayna Roselli: Listen, and I'm glad they're having it in October.
- 16:01Dayna Roselli: Remember for a few years they had it in the summer.
- 16:04Dayna Roselli: Well, they bumped it up to May.
- 16:06Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah, it was too hot.
- 16:07Sean McAllister: Well, uh you're right.
- 16:08Sean McAllister: It was originally in uh June or July, I think, and then June, and then they moved it uh up to May, and then obviously now they couldn't do it in May, so they pushed it back to October.
- 16:22Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 16:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think that'll be best for everyone.
- 16:24Dayna Roselli: So welcome back, EDC.
- 16:26Dayna Roselli: The lineup is huge.
- 16:27Dayna Roselli: Um, three days of good old music.
- 16:30Dayna Roselli: What did you call it?
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: Love and friendship.
- 16:32Sean McAllister: Love and friendship.
- 16:33Dayna Roselli: And I'm gonna add a and dot dot dot.
- 16:37Sean McAllister: You fill in your own uh adjectives, verbs, phrases, whatever you want.
- 16:43Sean McAllister: Hey, uh, you know, Allegiant Stadium.
- 16:45Sean McAllister: We've talked a lot about Allegiant Stadium, and they are getting ready to rock with one of the most classic bands that there is, Dana.
- 16:55Dayna Roselli: F and Rock.
- 16:56Sean McAllister: F and Rock.
- 16:57Dayna Roselli: And listen, we are just reading the press release.
- 16:59Dayna Roselli: That's what the press release says, and that's what they are saying, too.
- 17:03Dayna Roselli: I was like, wait, am I reading this right?
- 17:05Dayna Roselli: They're going all in to basically say, hey, we are ready to eff and rock.
- 17:09Sean McAllister: It's Guns N' Roses playing Allegiant Stadium.
- 17:13Sean McAllister: Uh, and this has just come out within the past couple days that this concert is going on, and uh I mean, you can't really uh say anything bad.
- 17:23Sean McAllister: Guns N' Roses has an incredible music library.
- 17:27Sean McAllister: They're an iconic band, and it's going to be the first rock show that takes place at Allegiant Stadium.
- 17:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and if you read the first line of the release, it says The iconic rock legends, Guns N' Roses, will be the first rock band ever to bring live effing rock and roll to Allegiant Stadium when their US tour comes to Las Vegas August 27th.
- 17:54Sean McAllister: Welcome to the jungle.
- 17:57Dayna Roselli: Oh, some good ones.
- 17:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that was my November Rain reference at the beginning of the show.
- 18:01Dayna Roselli: I'm sure some picked up on it, some didn't.
- 18:03Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 18:04Dayna Roselli: And apparently Van Halen's son is opening for them.
- 18:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, Wolfgang Van Halen.
- 18:09Sean McAllister: Wolfie.
- 18:10Sean McAllister: He's the son of uh Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Burtonelli.
- 18:15Sean McAllister: And Valerie Burtonelli is, I think, Wolfie's biggest cheerleader.
- 18:21Sean McAllister: She does pretty regular uh cooking segments on the Today Show.
- 18:26Sean McAllister: And whenever she goes on there, she always makes sure to put in a plug for Wolf.
- 18:31Dayna Roselli: Oh, I love that.
- 18:31Dayna Roselli: And he's great.
- 18:32Dayna Roselli: I did hear him perform only because I saw the clips going around.
- 18:35Dayna Roselli: I think he was either on Good Morning America or Today Show, one of those, and I listened and I was like, wow, he's getting and he's getting rave reviews for this album that's coming out.
- 18:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, and I I believe this is his first solo album.
- 18:47Sean McAllister: And they are in the in the music world.
- 18:50Sean McAllister: People are just saying that it he's phenomenal.
- 18:54Sean McAllister: So opening for Guns N' Roses, that is a massive high profile gig for him that is likely gonna, you know, just push him to the next level.
- 19:03Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 19:04Dayna Roselli: And tickets for that go on sale June 12th at 10 a.m.
- 19:07Dayna Roselli: gunsandroses.com.
- 19:09Sean McAllister: Uh one of our longtime Las Vegas headliners, Mac King.
- 19:14Dayna Roselli: Completely opposite from Guns N Roses.
- 19:16Sean McAllister: Completely opposite.
- 19:16Sean McAllister: This is like taking a total left turn.
- 19:19Sean McAllister: Mac King is a magician.
- 19:22Sean McAllister: He does comedy too.
- 19:24Sean McAllister: For years he has done a show here in Las Vegas, and he has uh just moved his Las Vegas strip home to a new venue.
- 19:34Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 19:34Dayna Roselli: He's going to the Excalibur, and I love that they're pushing it.
- 19:38Dayna Roselli: They're saying he's got now got the keys to the castle, you know, because the Excalibur's castle.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: Get the keys to the castle.
- 19:45Sean McAllister: He's like their resident Merlin.
- 19:47Dayna Roselli: There you go.
- 19:47Dayna Roselli: And it starts June 22nd.
- 19:49Dayna Roselli: And the great thing about Mac King is it's a great show for all ages, and it's at 1 and 3 p.m.
- 19:55Dayna Roselli: And listen, Mac has no problem saying he is proud of those show times because he gets to spend time with his family in the morning and then have dinner with them as well.
- 20:04Dayna Roselli: He loves it.
- 20:05Sean McAllister: And that's a rarity for Las Vegas entertainers to be able to spend that kind of time, essentially normal hours.
- 20:13Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 20:13Dayna Roselli: And sometimes, you know, you're in Las Vegas and you have the kids or whatever, and you want something to do at 1 or 3 p.m.
- 20:20Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 20:21Dayna Roselli: So he's perfect for that.
- 20:22Dayna Roselli: Uh super talented, great guy.
- 20:25Dayna Roselli: Congratulations to Matt King.
- 20:27Dayna Roselli: I assume they weren't opening his room at Hara's where he was before, but I'm not sure about that.
- 20:33Dayna Roselli: But I'm glad that he found a new home.
- 20:35Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 20:35Sean McAllister: Uh America's Got Talent Live.
- 20:38Sean McAllister: Of course, America's Got Talent is the big reality competition show on NBC.
- 20:45Sean McAllister: Uh the prize for a lot of the winners of that show is to come to Las Vegas.
- 20:51Sean McAllister: Some have uh gotten residencies out of their wins.
- 20:55Sean McAllister: Talking about Terry Fader, who is a longtime uh Las Vegas headliner, who is a winner of America's Got Talent, Shin Lim over at The Mirage, who performs now with regular dates, also from America's Got Talent, Piff the Magic Dragon.
- 21:12Sean McAllister: Right.
- 21:12Sean McAllister: Another Vegas headliner who was on America's Got Talent.
- 21:16Dayna Roselli: Matt Franco?
- 21:17Sean McAllister: Matt Franco as well.
- 21:18Sean McAllister: Yeah, and we just saw him.
- 21:19Sean McAllister: He's incredible.
- 21:20Sean McAllister: It's so great.
- 21:21Sean McAllister: And so America's Got Talent Live is this ongoing variety show of personalities that you have seen on the NBC reality competition show who are going to be performing here in Las Vegas over at the Luxor on a regular basis.
- 21:38Sean McAllister: And uh this show has just been announced.
- 21:41Sean McAllister: They've done some some of the America's Got Talent live touring shows that have come through Las Vegas before, where they've done, I don't know, maybe five dates or so in Las Vegas and then moved on to another city.
- 21:54Sean McAllister: But this is gonna be a sit down show.
- 22:34Sean McAllister: You can watch it on your TV and then come to Las Vegas and see your favorite entertainers.
- 22:39Sean McAllister: Even uh Dana, your buddy Vicky Barbolack.
- 22:42Dayna Roselli: Oh, I love her.
- 22:43Sean McAllister: The comedian she's from America's Got Tim.
- 22:46Dayna Roselli: Oh, that's right.
- 22:47Sean McAllister: It's exciting, and it really is going to be a great show, and it's a great platform for uh a lot of the entertainers that we see on that show.
- 22:56Sean McAllister: So looking forward to uh AGT live in Las Vegas.
- 23:01Dayna Roselli: And you know what else is live in Las Vegas?
- 23:04Dayna Roselli: It's a convention.
- 23:05Dayna Roselli: It's been a while.
- 23:06Dayna Roselli: Well, a big convention.
- 23:07Dayna Roselli: We've had some smaller conventions, but a convention at our new convention center and old convention center coming together.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: We're super excited to have the world of concrete in town because that means things are a changing.
- 23:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, and you might hear that the world of concrete and be like.
- 23:24Dayna Roselli: What?
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: I mean But think about how many things around the world are made of concrete.
- 23:31Dayna Roselli: They're made of concrete.
- 23:32Dayna Roselli: This is what we live on, and we build we watch all these things go up all the time, and we're like, couldn't be possible without concrete.
- 23:38Sean McAllister: Right.
- 23:38Sean McAllister: And it so I've just got to say, this is a t a total tangent, but it's got to do with concrete.
- 23:44Sean McAllister: Uh Dana and I were out uh shooting some video for another project that we were working on through our company, Insightful Media, and it was on a construction site, and they had these prefabricated concrete walls that were being lifted into place by a crane, and then these walls would be bolted together, and uh you do that a few times over, and all of a sudden you have an office building.
- 24:13Dayna Roselli: It's incredible, right?
- 24:14Dayna Roselli: To watch it all go down and how it's done.
- 24:16Sean McAllister: Yeah, so we went and shot some video, got some time-lapse of this whole thing happening.
- 24:21Sean McAllister: Um, but that is an example of some of the innovation that is on display at the World of Concrete convention, which, as Dana mentioned, is the first big convention that we've had back here in Las Vegas.
- 24:35Dayna Roselli: Really exciting moment when they cut the ribbon on the new convention center that you and I have talked about uh for months now, because every time I drive by, I'm always amazed at how beautiful it is, and I'm like, we need to use this thing.
- 24:46Dayna Roselli: Well, finally, they are doing that, and they had a ribbon cutting.
- 24:50Dayna Roselli: Our governor was at the ribbon cutting, and you know, it was interesting to listen to him speak about this moment that we're in right now.
- 24:59Dayna Roselli: So let's let's take a listen.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: This is the first major trade show to return to the state of Nevada since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, sixteen long months ago.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: The World of Concrete is the first major trade show to take place in the United States since the start of the pandemic.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Throughout the pandemic, we have had to make some really difficult decisions, some that kept me up at night.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Decisions that affected people's lives and livelihoods.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: But as I said recently, every difficult decision was rooted in the long-term strategy for economic recovery, which has led us to where we are today.
- 25:38Dayna Roselli: So this was at the West Hall Expansion uh ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening and the welcoming, I guess, of our first big convention here in Las Vegas in quite some time.
- 25:51Dayna Roselli: And construction started on that West Hall in 2018 and finished despite COVID.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: So it was a big deal to get this done.
- 25:59Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's a massive deal.
- 26:00Sean McAllister: And just to kind of give you an idea, if you're not from Las Vegas, of how important convention business is for Las Vegas, pretty much everything that you see on the Las Vegas strip, the attractions, the massive c hotel casinos, the the entertainment that we have, the dining that we have, that can't be sustained without convention business.
- 26:29Sean McAllister: We wouldn't be able to have all that Las Vegas has with just uh leisure travel.
- 26:36Dayna Roselli: No.
- 26:37Sean McAllister: It's the business travel that makes everything here possible because that's what fills in the blanks between weekends.
- 26:45Dayna Roselli: Well, and it's true, and I think a lot of cities have, you know, like if you're going there, people be like, Well, the weekday rates are great and the weekends are high.
- 26:52Dayna Roselli: But here, you never know.
- 26:54Dayna Roselli: It really depends when a convention's in town.
- 26:56Dayna Roselli: Because I I've had people, family and friends, write me in going, what is going on on Tuesday, June 11th, you know, or whatever.
- 27:02Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, Well, there must be a big convention, let me look.
- 27:05Dayna Roselli: And that's how, you know, we yeah, keep going during the week.
- 27:09Sean McAllister: Yeah, and when we have the consumer electronics show that comes back into town, or when we have the uh National Association of Broadcasters show back in town, or SEMA, which is the big automotive convention.
- 27:26Sean McAllister: Those are uh huge events that bring in hundreds of thousands of people and really fuel the economy.
- 27:35Sean McAllister: So conventions are back, we're happy to see that.
- 27:39Sean McAllister: And uh the West Hall, they're kind of being put through their paces with actual convention traffic over there, Dana.
- 27:47Dayna Roselli: I know, and finally the boring company Vegas Loop is open, and I was looking at some videos on social media of people actually down there and using it, and that's exciting too, because that also opened during COVID.
- 28:00Sean McAllister: Yeah, and this is that tunnel system that we've talked about that uh Elon Musk's uh company built that has those autonomous Teslas that zoom people back and forth from convention hall to convention hall uh in these cars through the tunnels.
- 28:15Sean McAllister: Pretty cool.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and someone I was following on Twitter uh that writes for the Review Journal, which is our newspaper here, did mention that the LVCVA CEO, Steve Hill, apparently said it's gonna be a few years until it will actually stretch all the way down to the Las Vegas Strip, like we've talked about in the past.
- 28:35Dayna Roselli: But they do expect it to happen and possibly if they can get a portion of the system open in a couple years, you know, they'll start to slowly do that.
- 28:44Dayna Roselli: But I mean, you know, it's like a year or two here in Las Vegas is like flies by and then all of a sudden we have a full system.
- 28:51Sean McAllister: That's true.
- 28:52Sean McAllister: I know.
- 28:52Sean McAllister: It's miraculous how how quickly things are built because our, you know, people work 24-7 to to get things done around here.
- 29:01Sean McAllister: Uh something that may not be a great time for people, Dana, is when they go to a Las Vegas Raiders game over at Allegiance Stadium, and they pull up to park their car and are uh hit with some pretty steep sticker shock.
- 29:18Dayna Roselli: Parking at Allegiance Stadium has been a hot topic.
- 29:21Dayna Roselli: It's always been something that people have wondered about because there's not tons of area and space around the stadium, and I know hardcore football fans love to tailgate, so they've all been asking and wondering for a couple years now where are we going to gather and tailgate and you know, pre-game as you call it.
- 29:42Sean McAllister: Right.
- 29:42Sean McAllister: And so w there are some uh pictures that are being circulated on social media right now that that show the the parking prices for the lots that are in the immediate uh that have immediate access to Allegiant Stadium.
- 29:58Sean McAllister: And I mean these lots, Dana, uh that are the closest are a hundred dollars per event to park your car.
- 30:07Sean McAllister: That's in addition to a ticket price.
- 30:09Sean McAllister: Uh$100,$90,$80.
- 30:12Sean McAllister: Those are the lots that are the closest.
- 30:15Sean McAllister: Um, then we go down to$50,$45.
- 30:19Sean McAllister: Um, really$40, the cheapest parking price.
- 30:23Dayna Roselli: You probably got to walk pretty far, right?
- 30:25Sean McAllister: And yeah, for some of those, it's not even immediate access.
- 30:29Sean McAllister: Um, it looks like the oversized vehicle lot is gonna be$250 per event.
- 30:35Dayna Roselli: So the oversized vehicle lot, that's like if you're like rolling in in your camper.
- 30:39Sean McAllister: Yeah, so don't take the Winnebago to the Raiders game.
- 30:43Sean McAllister: Keep it down at Circus Circus and Uber up the street, right?
- 30:47Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 30:48Dayna Roselli: But there are gonna be other lots that will have shuttles.
- 30:51Dayna Roselli: So you could park at another lot, take a shuttle, and I'm assuming it'll probably drop you off right in front.
- 30:56Dayna Roselli: So that's you know, might be an option, and others, you know, we'll find unique ways on how to get around it.
- 31:02Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 31:03Sean McAllister: And uh one thing that is pretty cool, uh uh, I believe that Mandalay Bay is planning on kind of being the tailgate headquarters, Mandalay Bay in Luxor, uh being the tailgate headquarters for the Las Vegas Raiders games, because Hacienda is the street that uh there's a an overpass over the 15 freeway that divides uh Mandalay Bay from Allegiance Stadium.
- 31:31Sean McAllister: And from what I've heard, the uh Hacienda, that bridge, the roadway, is going to be shut down to uh motor traffic on game days.
- 31:41Sean McAllister: And that'll be used as a pedestrian bridge from Mandalay Bay.
- 31:45Sean McAllister: Perfect.
- 31:46Sean McAllister: They're actually building some exits right now out of the casino directly onto uh hacienda so that people can party over at Mandalay Bay, pre-game over there, walk across the bridge, and essentially be right at the front door of Allegiant Stadium.
- 32:02Dayna Roselli: That's a great idea.
- 32:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that that and that's the thing, is like say what you will, but our stadium is set up differently.
- 32:09Dayna Roselli: And you know, it makes us unique.
- 32:10Dayna Roselli: I feel like Las Vegas never does it like everyone else does it.
- 32:14Dayna Roselli: And it may cost more sometimes, but there's other ways.
- 32:18Dayna Roselli: You have to get creative, figure out your thing, but if you want to park close and you want to be immediately right there, you're gonna have to pay around a hundred bucks.
- 32:26Sean McAllister: Well, and and here's the deal: even with uh T-Mobile Arena, that's an arena that was plopped right down in the middle of existing casinos, and everyone was like, Oh my gosh, this is gonna be an absolute nightmare.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: How are people gonna get in and out of games?
- 32:42Sean McAllister: Where are people gonna park?
- 32:43Sean McAllister: Well, they've come up with some with a pretty, I mean, I would say squeaky clean system to get people in and out of games, utilizing parking garages, up and down the strip, and uh it they've really done a great job, and the traffic management before and after the games is is spot on.
- 33:04Sean McAllister: So hopefully we'll see that kind of thing at Allegiance Stadium too.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: So that brings us to our weekly poll.
- 33:11Dayna Roselli: Our exclusive weekly poll, I should say.
- 33:16Sean McAllister: We asked, and you have responded to our exclusive Vegas Revealed Weekly poll.
- 33:27Sean McAllister: It always sounds so important, doesn't it?
- 33:29Dayna Roselli: It does, so important.
- 33:30Dayna Roselli: It's the sound effects.
- 33:32Sean McAllister: So, in light of the parking prices that we just talked about, we asked in our exclusive Vegas Revealed Weekly poll, how much would you be willing to pay for parking at a major Las Vegas event?
- 33:46Sean McAllister: Your options are zero, ten to twenty-five dollars, twenty-five to fifty dollars, or fifty to a hundred dollars.
- 33:55Sean McAllister: And we will throw in the caveat that we know we just mentioned prices that are even higher than a hundred dollars.
- 34:00Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 34:01Dayna Roselli: But, you know, we just launched this poll and already we've got close to 200 votes.
- 34:06Dayna Roselli: So it'll be there for a little while longer, and there'll probably be more votes.
- 34:10Dayna Roselli: So when you see the results on Twitter, these results might change slightly.
- 34:14Dayna Roselli: But for right now, we have 42% saying zero, forty-six percent saying ten to twenty-five dollars, ten percent saying they're willing to spend twenty-five to fifty, and two percent saying fifty to a hundred bucks.
- 34:27Dayna Roselli: But the responses are what I love because we have a variety.
- 34:31Sean McAllister: We do.
- 34:32Sean McAllister: Uh Chris J says that uh a ride share or taxi is the way to go.
- 34:37Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 34:38Sean McAllister: I would happen to agree with that.
- 34:39Sean McAllister: If you can find somewhere, you know, somewhere else near the strip to park and then you know, take an Uber or a Lyft and get there.
- 34:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 34:47Dayna Roselli: And hopefully our ride share service will be better than it is now currently.
- 34:51Dayna Roselli: Well, hopefully you can struggle.
- 34:52Sean McAllister: Uh, even on game days, you might be subject to surge pricing, which would get you close to what you know the parking prices might be.
- 35:00Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 35:01Dayna Roselli: Then we've got Behind the Badge, who says for what we pay for the event itself, they should pay us to park.
- 35:08Dayna Roselli: So maybe he thinks like I should park for free and they should hand me a voucher for a free beer just because I, you know, bought tickets to the game.
- 35:15Sean McAllister: I like that.
- 35:15Dayna Roselli: It's not how it works.
- 35:16Dayna Roselli: Sorry, behind the badge, but good idea.
- 35:19Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 35:19Sean McAllister: Jerry Lambert says, I guess it depends on the event, but I'd pay$40, probably just for the convenience of it.
- 35:25Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 35:26Dayna Roselli: Matt Johnson says$25, but only if it's a fair like walking distance from the car to the arena.
- 35:33Dayna Roselli: So if he feels like it's worth it, you know, and it's close enough, then he'll pay the$25.
- 35:38Sean McAllister: And Rock Boy says park somewhere free and just walk.
- 35:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I think a lot of people that live here have figured that out.
- 35:45Dayna Roselli: When it remember when everything went paid parking, when I'm talking about like MGM and Caesars, everyone would kind of figure out their free spot to park and then just walk to whatever paid resort it was.
- 35:56Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 35:56Dayna Roselli: I know a lot of people that would park at the Tropicana and walk over to MGM Grand and that kind of thing.
- 36:01Dayna Roselli: All right, let's get to our tips because we're talking about Allegiant Stadium, and I wanted to mention a couple things going on, and one of them actually does include Allegiant Stadium, and it's about jobs.
- 36:15Dayna Roselli: They are doing in-person hiring events starting June 6th to June 27th on Sundays and Thursdays.
- 36:24Dayna Roselli: I know a lot of people out there that live in Las Vegas, uh, also that listen and want to move to Las Vegas or looking for jobs.
- 36:31Dayna Roselli: So Sundays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.
- 36:33Dayna Roselli: to 2 p.m., you can actually go to Allegiant Stadium for these hiring events where they can meet you in person.
- 36:41Dayna Roselli: Instead of, you know, going online, sending it in, waiting to hear back, you can just go in, meet them, show off your personality, and see where you stand.
- 36:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, and it it looks like the departments that they're hiring for the custodial jobs, parking and transportation, security, food services.
- 36:57Sean McAllister: So there are a lot of jobs that are going to need to be full filled to pull off all of these game days and events that are going to be happening at Allegiant Stadium.
- 37:08Sean McAllister: So yeah, I mean that's a great opportunity, but that's not even the end of the list as far as jobs that are available in Las Vegas.
- 37:17Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 37:18Dayna Roselli: Another location on the strip that is having a job fair fashion show Las Vegas, and that's our mall that sits right across from the win Las Vegas.
- 37:29Dayna Roselli: Listen, they're looking to fill over 300 positions.
- 37:33Dayna Roselli: So they've got jobs at, you know, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy, some of the restaurants, Stripburger, El Segundo Sol, and they're looking for people to get back to work.
- 37:44Dayna Roselli: So they are having an event June 22nd, and that's from 3 p.m.
- 37:48Dayna Roselli: to 7 p.m.
- 37:49Dayna Roselli: You can go, it's over in the Great Hall at the Fashion Show Las Vegas.
- 37:53Dayna Roselli: Again, June 22nd, 3 to 7, if you're interested in a job over at Fashion Show.
- 37:58Sean McAllister: Those are good tips.
- 37:59Sean McAllister: Get people back to work.
- 38:00Sean McAllister: Uh, my tip this week is if you are coming into Las Vegas from out of town, or maybe you live here and just don't know about this, there is a live entertainment venue off the strip.
- 38:12Sean McAllister: It's called The Space.
- 38:14Sean McAllister: It was created by uh an entertainer named Mark Chinook who came to Las Vegas to perform in the show Rock of Ages when that was running over at the Venetian.
- 38:24Sean McAllister: He was a cast member in that show.
- 38:26Dayna Roselli: He was great in that.
- 38:27Sean McAllister: Oh so hilarious.
- 38:28Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 38:29Sean McAllister: Uh he has since after that show closed, he stayed in town and he has now become just a fixture in Las Vegas in the sports and entertainment communities.
- 38:43Sean McAllister: He's the in arena host for the the Golden Knights now.
- 38:46Sean McAllister: Um but Mark created uh the space, which as I mentioned is a performance venue.
- 38:53Sean McAllister: My tip is to check out what the space uh LV has going on because uh it's a great option for off-strip entertainment.
- 39:03Sean McAllister: I was just there for uh Monday's dark, which is the charity show that's put on every other week over at The Space.
- 39:11Sean McAllister: And it's just so incredible.
- 39:13Sean McAllister: We have so many local entertainers who donate their time and their talent to put on these shows, and they're one of a kind.
- 39:24Sean McAllister: They're shows that you would never see anywhere else.
- 39:27Dayna Roselli: Well, and the great thing about some of those events too is if you want to see a variety of entertainment, it's not just like going and and one person's, you know, headlining the show.
- 39:36Dayna Roselli: You get to see a variety of entertainers sing, you know, maybe a song or two, right?
- 39:40Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 39:41Dayna Roselli: Or perform with, you know, maybe just music or right.
- 39:44Sean McAllister: And it's uh I mean the ticket prices are extremely reasonable too.
- 39:48Sean McAllister: You can get twenty dollar tickets, forty dollar, fifty dollar tickets.
- 39:52Sean McAllister: So I it's a great option, uh, you know, in contrast to what you can get on the Las Vegas strip.
- 39:59Sean McAllister: Um, but at this Monday's Dark show that I was uh just at recently, they were celebrating the music of Marvin Gay.
- 40:07Dayna Roselli: Oh, that's great.
- 40:08Sean McAllister: So just incredible music to begin with.
- 40:11Sean McAllister: But then about halfway through the show, uh it was a surprise to the 150 people in the audience.
- 40:19Sean McAllister: Marvin Gay's sister was in the crowd, and she got up on stage and talked about her brother's legacy and a new book that she just has out.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: I'm here to represent him, so I'm carrying that torch.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: And you know what's so neat about the tribute to Marvin along with I Care for Kids is that this year reigns 50 years of What's Going On.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: And he was nominated and voted, and you know, received from Rolling Stone the number one album, What's Going On was the number one album of all times.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: So this is I wrote a book.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I've been holding this story in just about all my life, and this story is about my family.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: It's my memoirs, which includes my brother, of course, because we grew up together with four of us, and two girls and two boys, and I'm the last one left.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: I just lost my sister last month.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: So they all left me.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay, guys, what y'all want me to do?
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna do it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: So my book, I'm donating this book to I care for kids.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: And if any of you guys are interested in it, you can go on Amazon, and it's called It's Real Easy, My Brother Martin.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: That's the only game.
- 41:40Dayna Roselli: That is so cool, and that definitely goes along with the you know Las Vegas theme of when you go somewhere, you never know who's gonna turn up.
- 41:48Sean McAllister: You don't.
- 41:48Sean McAllister: It's so true.
- 41:50Dayna Roselli: Sounds like a great event.
- 41:51Dayna Roselli: Yeah, like you mentioned, they do a lot there.
- 41:53Dayna Roselli: Again, it's thespacelv.com.
- 41:56Sean McAllister: Man, another packed show.
- 41:58Dayna Roselli: It just seems like the list keeps going on and on.
- 42:01Dayna Roselli: Had one of our listeners, our our loyal listeners from Germany, write me and say he's enjoying listening to everything going on in Las Vegas because they now are just starting to really open up vaccines for people over the age of 18.
- 42:16Dayna Roselli: So so many, you know, countries are behind what we're doing here in the United States.
- 42:22Dayna Roselli: Uh, I feel thankful.
- 42:23Dayna Roselli: I feel thankful to live in Las Vegas where we're back open and getting back to business.
- 42:27Dayna Roselli: But uh some different places around the world are struggling.
- 42:31Dayna Roselli: And so, you know, at least we give them the podcast to listen to and and it feels you know bright and sunny.
- 42:37Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 42:38Sean McAllister: Well, and it's something to look forward to.
- 42:40Sean McAllister: I know that, you know, when you're living in that situation where things aren't fully opened yet, um it it's happening, just stick with it, stay safe, and Vegas is on the horizon.
- 42:54Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 42:54Dayna Roselli: And you know, and we did see the resorts rule in Malaysia is closing for three months because, you know, COVID.
- 42:59Dayna Roselli: And so anyway, we are thankful.
- 43:01Dayna Roselli: Thank you for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 43:03Dayna Roselli: Go to our show notes.
- 43:04Dayna Roselli: We've got a link to Vegas Revealed merchandise and Las Vegas merchandise, t-shirts, tank tops, uh, onesies, the whole nine.
- 43:12Dayna Roselli: And we do hope you have a great, fabulous week.
- 43:15Sean McAllister: And we'll talk to you next week on episode 73.
- 43:19Sean McAllister: On behalf of the flight crew, thank you for flying with us and have a pleasant day.
- 43:23Sean McAllister: Let's go today.
- 43:26Sean McAllister: Let's go, baby.
- 43:29Sean McAllister: Let's go.
