- 1:02Speaker 5: if twenty twenty five AJ was feeling the same way
- 1:05Speaker 5: Tanzania might have all that all that elevation change.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I think might have.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Loosened you up a little bit.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I'll just think, you know, it's it's I'm okay with it. Still,
- 1:15Speaker 3: it's still in the Happy New Year. We got till
- 1:17Speaker 3: Friday Friday.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Ship's over.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Yeap. We caught a year where it.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Just lined up right.
- 1:23Speaker 3: If it would be if January second, then you would
- 1:26Speaker 3: have had till the end of that Friday, which would
- 1:27Speaker 3: have been like the sixth.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That would have been got looky, got till the night.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Wow, this is like Groundhog's Day when you get up
- 1:34Speaker 4: and you're like, oh, Perzinski says, Friday Jen nine, this
- 1:38Speaker 4: is gonna be a good year.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Twenty twenty six is going to be a good year.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I feel like I'm already behind New Year.
- 1:44Speaker 5: I feel like I'm already behind on my Christmas shopping
- 1:46Speaker 5: because of how the year ended and the ninth Now
- 1:48Speaker 5: I can say Happy New Year's now, I got time.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Just aj just put a lot on me. I gotta
- 1:55Speaker 2: I gotta take a break.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Okay, Well, while you do that, there's one other thing
- 1:59Speaker 4: I want to throw out there before we begin with news.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I just want to keep reminding everyone what we're doing
- 2:04Speaker 4: in a few weeks. BBWAA Award to Gala includes show
- 2:09Speaker 4: Hey Otani, Aaron Judge, Trek Scoogle, Paul Skens, and many more.
- 2:17Speaker 4: On the day is accepting their awards that they won.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Those announcements were in November, but the big part of
- 2:25Speaker 4: what happens here is when they show up, they take
- 2:28Speaker 4: the photos with the awards and we'll talk to whoever
- 2:31Speaker 4: wants to talk to us. Last time, we spoke to
- 2:33Speaker 4: most award winners and we will certainly send out those
- 2:35Speaker 4: requests and ask them or AJ will just go up
- 2:38Speaker 4: to them Saturday, January twenty fourth. We'll give you more
- 2:41Speaker 4: details as we get closer, and you can still get
- 2:43Speaker 4: tickets online too if you're trying to go in person.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Oh one other announcement please before we begin. So we
- 2:52Speaker 4: have four guests today and one of our guests is
- 2:55Speaker 4: going to be former angel Mark Trumbo. Do you guys
- 2:58Speaker 4: know why Trumbo's joining us today?
- 3:00Speaker 2: I do yes, because we have Halo Territory.
- 3:07Speaker 4: That's right, Halo Territory is here. It's a show dedicated
- 3:12Speaker 4: to the Angels. The graphics are fantastic. Do you like
- 3:15Speaker 4: those graphics? How good is that with the great sky
- 3:19Speaker 4: behind it the clouds, Mike Di Giovanna and Mark Trumbo
- 3:24Speaker 4: part of Halo Territory. They'll have some special guest contributors
- 3:27Speaker 4: to It is the newest show on the Foul Territory Network.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Everyone in the ft fam, you know what to do.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Even if you hate the Angels, and you shouldn't because
- 3:36Speaker 4: they've suffered for a long time. Go give that show
- 3:40Speaker 4: a sub on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts
- 3:44Speaker 4: as well.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I can't wait for Mark Trumbo because I have a
- 3:46Speaker 3: story that I want to ask him about. Okay, I
- 3:48Speaker 3: hope he remembers it because I have. He probably won't
- 3:51Speaker 3: remember it, but it was It was one of those
- 3:53Speaker 3: stories that people will think, oh, that's kind of a
- 3:55Speaker 3: dumb story, but for a former catcher, it was kind
- 3:57Speaker 3: of a funny story.
- 3:58Speaker 4: He's pretty sharp. I mean, I to the first show,
- 4:01Speaker 4: so I think he might remember it. It sounds like
- 4:03Speaker 4: he's the kind of guy that remembers the specific at
- 4:05Speaker 4: bat from the random day in the random game.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So maybe he does remember it.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Maybe you'll probably remember this.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so we'll talk to him later.
- 4:14Speaker 5: You said, if you hate the Angels, you can follow.
- 4:16Speaker 5: What if the angels hate you, is AJ allowed to follow?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yes, still can follow.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Many angels fans still hate me, And I'm all over
- 4:26Speaker 4: that show I'm watching.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm listening. So you can't slap us. You can't. You
- 4:31Speaker 1: can't fight love. Love always wins. Kratz. Let's charge.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Let's charge.
- 4:40Speaker 4: We're gonna start with rumors, since there were no signings
- 4:44Speaker 4: over the past twenty four hours, so I think this
- 4:47Speaker 4: is the next signing that happens. We learned from the
- 4:52Speaker 4: New York Post that there has now been a second
- 4:55Speaker 4: offer made to Cody Bollinger from the Yankees.
- 4:58Speaker 2: What are we looking for?
- 4:59Speaker 4: I don't know what the number is, but a second
- 5:01Speaker 4: offer to Belly. Sometimes, you know, teams negotiate against themselves.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm not saying they are, but.
- 5:11Speaker 4: It does appear as if the Yankees want him more
- 5:13Speaker 4: than anyone else.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Well, he fits the most with the Yankees.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, right, I mean he was there, he proved he
- 5:18Speaker 3: could play there, his dad was a Yankee.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It makes total sense.
- 5:23Speaker 1: They need to be more athletic.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Right, he fits that Bill. You can play first, he
- 5:27Speaker 3: can play the outfield of Grisham. Doesn't have a year
- 5:30Speaker 3: that Grisham had last year, right, I mean he fits perfectly.
- 5:35Speaker 3: They lost They obviously lost gold Schmitt. So you need
- 5:38Speaker 3: someone to play first, Ben Rice or him or whoever
- 5:40Speaker 3: it is.
- 5:40Speaker 4: I think they're gonna give Rice every day at first,
- 5:43Speaker 4: or as much as possible.
- 5:44Speaker 1: They know where's Bellinger playing outfield?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Okay?
- 5:47Speaker 3: So left? Yeah, because Christians and center judge isn't right.
- 5:51Speaker 3: So then what do you do with Domingo?
- 5:53Speaker 4: Well, Domingos or Jones could get traded, you know what,
- 5:57Speaker 4: I would. Here's my thing about how I trade one
- 5:59Speaker 4: of them for a picture.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I would too, But who do we have on yesterday?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Chris Kershner and what he say?
- 6:05Speaker 3: They're not trading him and if they trade, especially Domingas,
- 6:08Speaker 3: if they trade Domingo's people will be up in arms about.
- 6:10Speaker 1: It, would they?
- 6:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I think because he's been so hyped for so long,
- 6:14Speaker 3: he's still only twenty two years old, Yankees would be
- 6:16Speaker 3: hesitant to trade him because God forbid if he went
- 6:18Speaker 3: somewhere else and they let him play a different position
- 6:21Speaker 3: or figured out something because he was not good in leftfield.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I'm sorry, he wasn't right.
- 6:25Speaker 3: But if they put him in center, where he came
- 6:27Speaker 3: up playing and he actually became something.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The Nike fans would be like.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Why did you trade him? You know? So I don't know.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And Spencer Jones has kind of lost a little bit
- 6:35Speaker 3: of his prospect cloud. He hasn't even come up yet.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but his strikeout numbers are so outrageous.
- 6:41Speaker 1: That struck out a lot.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Not like this, but remember Judge's first what month or
- 6:45Speaker 4: two in the bigs and he just struck out half
- 6:49Speaker 4: the time. And then people were like, I don't know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: this guy's too big and blah blah blah, he's not
- 6:53Speaker 4: going to be able to Now he's all consistent contact
- 6:55Speaker 4: and now he's a Hall of Famer. So, yeah, krats
- 6:57Speaker 4: if it's me, I'm trading I'm signed Belly and I'm
- 7:00Speaker 4: trading Domingez for a pitcher like Edward Cabrera.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I'm gonna go on a limb here and tell me
- 7:06Speaker 5: if you guys agree with me or not. Cody Bellinger
- 7:09Speaker 5: isn't just the best fit for the Yankees. He might
- 7:12Speaker 5: be the best value out there on the market. He's
- 7:15Speaker 5: the guy that you can plug in at center field,
- 7:18Speaker 5: left field, first base, and I think there's a lot
- 7:21Speaker 5: of teams that need athleticism. They want a left handed hitter.
- 7:25Speaker 5: I think he offers more than the other guys that
- 7:28Speaker 5: are out there on the market. Is Kyle Tucker a
- 7:30Speaker 5: better offensive piece, Yeah, I would agree with that, But Cody.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Bellinger is.
- 7:37Speaker 5: I think, yes, we're saying it's the Yankees, and yes,
- 7:39Speaker 5: I think he will sign with the Yankees because I
- 7:41Speaker 5: think they will get the last offer. I don't like
- 7:44Speaker 5: the wording of second offer out like it sounds like
- 7:48Speaker 5: they made one offer and then we don't hear anything
- 7:50Speaker 5: from Cody and then there's another offer. To me, it
- 7:52Speaker 5: should be a counter offer, would be the wording. If
- 7:56Speaker 5: Cody's like, no, this is what I want, Yankee say, Okay,
- 7:59Speaker 5: well this is where we're gonna go ahead and do.
- 8:00Speaker 5: But to me, I just I think it's it's the
- 8:03Speaker 5: Yankees or nothing. But I also think other teams should
- 8:07Speaker 5: be in on Cody. He's proven that he settled into
- 8:11Speaker 5: his big league career after that tough front shoulder when
- 8:15Speaker 5: you swing injury that he sustained in the twenty twenty
- 8:19Speaker 5: World Series.
- 8:22Speaker 4: He is going to get less than Kyle Tucker, although
- 8:25Speaker 4: I can't say that for sure. The Kyle Talker Coucker
- 8:28Speaker 4: market that's been pretty mysterious, but at least in terms
- 8:30Speaker 4: of the ask, right, if I had to guess what
- 8:33Speaker 4: the goal is for each player, they're very far away. Right,
- 8:37Speaker 4: You would think heading into the offseason, Kyle Tucker's camp
- 8:40Speaker 4: is like, we're getting three fifty four hundred million, Beller
- 8:43Speaker 4: camp a million right in Bellinger's camps like we're getting
- 8:46Speaker 4: one fifty to two hundred, and we'd be thrilled.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah that's half. Yeah, So that's.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Where right now. I mean, you know, Cody Bellinger might
- 8:54Speaker 3: figure it out, but right now, it looks like neither
- 8:55Speaker 3: one of them is going to get close to that.
- 8:57Speaker 2: From the numbers we're hearing.
- 8:58Speaker 3: We don't know, I mean, we don't ever know, But
- 9:00Speaker 3: like the way teams are talking and the way these insiders,
- 9:03Speaker 3: the so called insiders are saying, doesn't seem like either
- 9:05Speaker 3: one of them is going to get close to Maybe
- 9:07Speaker 3: Cody Bellinger gets a little closer to one fifty ish, you.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Don't want to know, my guess.
- 9:13Speaker 4: So I think that the Yankees have a number on
- 9:15Speaker 4: Bellinger over a certain amount of years, and then they're
- 9:18Speaker 4: going to do the DJ lemayhew and add a year
- 9:19Speaker 4: or two to make it work for luxury tax purposes,
- 9:21Speaker 4: because hol and many others are sick of giving all
- 9:23Speaker 4: the money to the same few teams that don't spend it.
- 9:26Speaker 4: So let's say in their mind it's one fifty or
- 9:29Speaker 4: let's even just say one eighty six one. They're going
- 9:31Speaker 4: to try and throw like eight one eighty at him, Like, dude,
- 9:35Speaker 4: you'll be at the end of your career anyway. Sometimes
- 9:37Speaker 4: you do buy out at that point, right, Can we
- 9:40Speaker 4: do eight one eighty so that it stretches the number out?
- 9:42Speaker 4: So that's what I think is going on right now,
- 9:44Speaker 4: and they're going back and forth about it.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And he does he really fit anywhere else?
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean, oh yeah, he fits in many other spots, but.
- 9:53Speaker 2: He's the one guy the Yankees need. Like that, he
- 9:55Speaker 2: seems like he's a perfect fit in the Yankees.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I agree, like Wan Soda was that one year and
- 10:00Speaker 3: he got traded over there.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He was like the perfect fit.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Cody Bellinger after especially after what he did last year,
- 10:05Speaker 3: just seems like a really good fit with the Yankees.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I think the Yankees might to get going with the
- 10:08Speaker 4: rest of their plans krat So. I think they're trying
- 10:10Speaker 4: to get this done this week. So I think this
- 10:13Speaker 4: is the next shoot a drop.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Who do they turn to? Who do they turn to
- 10:18Speaker 2: if they don't get Cody?
- 10:19Speaker 5: And that's why I think Cody's biggest bargaining chip is
- 10:21Speaker 5: other than the fact that I think he fits on
- 10:24Speaker 5: I believe he fits on so many other teams that
- 10:26Speaker 5: I think he will have other options. But who do
- 10:30Speaker 5: the Yankees pivot to if they don't get Cody Bellinger?
- 10:32Speaker 5: I mean, Aaron Boone said the other day, we love
- 10:35Speaker 5: our roster, We really love her. Okay, you loved your
- 10:39Speaker 5: roster with the best year ever from Trent Grisham. You
- 10:43Speaker 5: love your roster with the fact that Cody Bellinger was
- 10:47Speaker 5: giving a little bit of protection to Aaron Judge who
- 10:49Speaker 5: had one of his best years ever. Ben Rice, is
- 10:52Speaker 5: he going to do exactly like you do? Have to
- 10:55Speaker 5: bring somebody in because if you don't sign Cody, you
- 11:00Speaker 5: have to replace that.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Remember at some point when someone threw out there Kyle
- 11:06Speaker 4: Tucker as the backup plan, I'm like, WHOA, that's a
- 11:10Speaker 4: tough backup plan.
- 11:11Speaker 1: That's a much point.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You can't figure out numbers with Cody, but then you're
- 11:13Speaker 4: going to figure out numbers with Kyle. I mean, let's
- 11:17Speaker 4: bring in Ken right now to talk about it. First,
- 11:20Speaker 4: Let's get FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal's take on this. Ken,
- 11:25Speaker 4: your thoughts on Cody Bellinger and the Yankees as a
- 11:28Speaker 4: fit and maybe as something that could happen soon so
- 11:32Speaker 4: that the Yankees can get going with the rest of
- 11:34Speaker 4: their off season.
- 11:36Speaker 6: I don't know about soon. I never kind of predict timelines,
- 11:40Speaker 6: especially with Scott wors clients, because Scott Warris is not
- 11:43Speaker 6: afraid to drag this thing out. He will act when
- 11:46Speaker 6: he thinks it is appropriate. And certainly it could happen
- 11:49Speaker 6: this week or at anytime. And I appreciate what you're saying,
- 11:52Speaker 6: Scott about the Yankees getting on with the rest of
- 11:54Speaker 6: their offseason, But I kind of go back to what
- 11:57Speaker 6: Eric was just saying there about what's their alternative? And
- 12:01Speaker 6: I think Aj mentioned this too, that to me is
- 12:04Speaker 6: the real question. They can trade for a starting pitcher,
- 12:06Speaker 6: they can work on the bullpen and do all those
- 12:09Speaker 6: things regardless of what happens with Bellinger, whether it's this
- 12:12Speaker 6: week or three weeks.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Down the line.
- 12:14Speaker 6: But my question is, if not Bellinger, what's the offensive
- 12:18Speaker 6: player you're going to get to replace him.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Or who is that player?
- 12:22Speaker 6: And I don't know the answer to that. Kyle Tucker,
- 12:24Speaker 6: as you guys just mentioned, is a much more expensive.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Most likely addition, Bobashett is not really a fit with
- 12:32Speaker 6: their roster. Bregman is not really a fit with their roster.
- 12:35Speaker 2: So who is that.
- 12:36Speaker 6: Hitter if not Bellinger? Now, things happen in the offseason
- 12:40Speaker 6: and at the deadline all the time that surprise us
- 12:44Speaker 6: that we don't see coming because teams have other moves planned.
- 12:48Speaker 6: Let's say the Yankees, for instance, can find a spot
- 12:51Speaker 6: for Jash Chisholm and they want to play Bishette at second. Okay,
- 12:55Speaker 6: that's one scenario, and it's one of one hundred in
- 12:58Speaker 6: all of these circumstances. So I don't know exactly what's
- 13:02Speaker 6: going through the minds of the Yankees, But your general premise,
- 13:05Speaker 6: the premise of everybody on the panel this morning, is Hey,
- 13:09Speaker 6: if not Cody, then who And that to me is
- 13:11Speaker 6: a very fair question.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Just can you clarify something with the wording it said
- 13:16Speaker 5: second offer was made to Cody Bellinger? Does that mean
- 13:20Speaker 5: it was a counteroffer? Does that mean it was Cody said, Okay,
- 13:24Speaker 5: I take your first offer, this is what we want.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Here comes our counteroffer. Or is this a second offer
- 13:30Speaker 5: because he didn't respond because he changed his phone number
- 13:32Speaker 5: on the first offer.
- 13:34Speaker 6: I don't know, Eric, and that's a very fair question. Certainly,
- 13:38Speaker 6: it's one of two things. Right as you just laid out.
- 13:40Speaker 6: It's either Boris countered and the Yankees came back with
- 13:45Speaker 6: something else, or the Yankees simply increased their initial offer,
- 13:49Speaker 6: And either way there's still not there. There's still not
- 13:52Speaker 6: at a point where Boris at this point of the
- 13:54Speaker 6: off season January sixth, is ready to take whatever the
- 13:58Speaker 6: Yankees have offered. Now, the clock is running and it's
- 14:02Speaker 6: got another month or so to go before teams start
- 14:06Speaker 6: getting together for spring training. We're not an urgent point
- 14:10Speaker 6: in these talks with any of these players. There's no
- 14:13Speaker 6: deadline in the offseason, as we've discussed many times before.
- 14:16Speaker 6: But this whole scenario, and it's not just Bellinger, it's Bellinger, Bregman, Boschett, Tucker.
- 14:24Speaker 6: They're all intertwined in many ways because many of the
- 14:27Speaker 6: same teams are involved with these players. And it just
- 14:30Speaker 6: seems that it's one big stalemate right now, a stalemate
- 14:33Speaker 6: that can break at any time but hasn't yet.
- 14:43Speaker 4: A couple of little moves over the past twenty four hours,
- 14:45Speaker 4: Big Christmas is headed to Baltimore. John Kenzi Noel is
- 14:48Speaker 4: claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians, so the Orioles
- 14:51Speaker 4: have more pop.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Got to make the team too great. Nickname Big Dude
- 15:00Speaker 1: up a good point.
- 15:00Speaker 3: If he was placed on if he was designated for
- 15:02Speaker 3: simon December seventeenth, Was he on waivers for like a month?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Because I thought it was ten days, seven days, ten days,
- 15:08Speaker 3: whatever it is. I don't know. You could be on
- 15:10Speaker 3: waivers for two months.
- 15:11Speaker 4: There's some freeze, maybe during the Christmas time to New
- 15:15Speaker 4: Year's maybe not.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:17Speaker 5: People say people will say who cares, even to the
- 15:20Speaker 5: point where the Players Association will say, ah, who cares?
- 15:23Speaker 5: You know why they say that because that crap never
- 15:26Speaker 5: happened to them. You're sitting there like, I don't know
- 15:28Speaker 5: where I'm going. It's a little different in the offseason.
- 15:30Speaker 5: You're like, ah, you know whatever, it's no big deal.
- 15:33Speaker 5: It's a big deal because there's an assimilation process. There's
- 15:38Speaker 5: an opportunity for players and teams love this kind of stuff.
- 15:42Speaker 5: They love to be able to kind of, you know,
- 15:46Speaker 5: have opportunities pick guys up at any time. And so
- 15:49Speaker 5: anytime you're just like drawling this stuff out, it matters
- 15:53Speaker 5: to players less in the off season. Nothing's changing for him,
- 15:57Speaker 5: but it's still that sucks over Chris, Big Christmas didn't
- 16:02Speaker 5: even get to celebrate Christmas because he's like, am I
- 16:04Speaker 5: going to be a.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Minor league free agent?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Now?
- 16:07Speaker 2: I'm not? I don't know, Happy New Year, Still know nothing.
- 16:10Speaker 5: It's usually ten days, so ten days kind of stretched
- 16:14Speaker 5: out to like twenty.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I try to represent the fan voice. If this is
- 16:19Speaker 4: during the season, I get it. In the off season,
- 16:21Speaker 4: you're not going anywhere this second.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah, but it still matters for where you have to
- 16:25Speaker 3: get placed in spring training. There's a lot like that's
- 16:28Speaker 3: where the average fan doesn't understand if the board is
- 16:30Speaker 3: still available right now. Yeah, but those guys are going
- 16:33Speaker 3: to get millions of dollars, right.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 3: The difference is Big Christmas is not yeah, right, So
- 16:38Speaker 3: she has to figure out, Okay, there's a huge difference
- 16:41Speaker 3: from Cleveland spring training in Arizona to Baltimore spring training
- 16:45Speaker 3: in Sarasota.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah. And also there's a huge team.
- 16:48Speaker 3: There and then a team and then you got to
- 16:50Speaker 3: get to see new people. So if he would have
- 16:52Speaker 3: cleared waivers and he was just a free agent. Then
- 16:54Speaker 3: he could have gone and said, okay, well I get
- 16:56Speaker 3: to pick the team that I think I have the
- 16:57Speaker 3: best chance to make the team off with his agent there.
- 17:01Speaker 3: But now since he's claimed by the Orioles and it
- 17:03Speaker 3: took so long, or maybe it didn't, they just didn't
- 17:06Speaker 3: announce it. I don't know.
- 17:07Speaker 2: The whole thing is strange to me. But it does matter.
- 17:10Speaker 3: That's why, like when you're like, oh, as a fan,
- 17:11Speaker 3: it doesn't matter, it matters. It would be like any
- 17:14Speaker 3: person out there at their job, their job said you
- 17:16Speaker 3: know what, we're firing. Okay, you have ten days and
- 17:20Speaker 3: you can't do anything. For those ten days. You can't
- 17:22Speaker 3: look for a job, you can't do anything. And then
- 17:25Speaker 3: at the end of the ten days, say you work
- 17:27Speaker 3: for AT and T and T mobile calls and they're like, oh,
- 17:30Speaker 3: we're going to hire you. Right, Well, that is that
- 17:32Speaker 3: a difference. And oh and by the way, you have
- 17:34Speaker 3: to move across the country, right so yes, and you're
- 17:36Speaker 3: not rich.
- 17:37Speaker 4: That's the big part too, is you can't pay your
- 17:39Speaker 4: way out of the problem like he might.
- 17:40Speaker 1: He was optioned twice last year.
- 17:42Speaker 4: He might not be in the big league this year, Right,
- 17:43Speaker 4: he had a bad year after twenty twenty four seventy
- 17:46Speaker 4: seventy four oks. He was four eighty and sixty nine
- 17:50Speaker 4: games this past season. Minor leaguers are not rich. Okay,
- 17:53Speaker 4: we can talk player salaries all day. Minor leaguers are
- 17:55Speaker 4: not rich. So it's not like he can just find.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Even listen, even zero to three guys. Listen, seven fifty
- 18:01Speaker 3: is the minimum, yeah, which is a ton of money. Sure,
- 18:04Speaker 3: do not get me wrong, Okay, and but but let's
- 18:08Speaker 3: think about it. If you don't make it to arbitration
- 18:10Speaker 3: and you're a zero to three guy and you make
- 18:12Speaker 3: seven to fifty for two years and then you get
- 18:14Speaker 3: something happens, you don't make it, okay, one point five million,
- 18:17Speaker 3: then you're done playing your sport.
- 18:18Speaker 1: And then cut that in half.
- 18:19Speaker 3: It cut the half because and everything else. But like
- 18:22Speaker 3: then you have to find a job, like a real job,
- 18:26Speaker 3: because you haven't made enough to cover your life. Right, So,
- 18:29Speaker 3: I mean there's a lot and that's I don't know. Listen,
- 18:32Speaker 3: I understand that money is more money than most people
- 18:34Speaker 3: ever make in their lifetime, like in one year, but
- 18:38Speaker 3: it's you have as a as a as an athlete,
- 18:40Speaker 3: you have a small window to make your life's money right.
- 18:44Speaker 2: So that that's.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Why when you're having to and I've been listening, I've
- 18:47Speaker 3: been DFA in the middle of a season. Crats, you've
- 18:49Speaker 3: been dfade in the middle of a season. You just
- 18:51Speaker 3: sit there. I remember when I did what happened to me.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I just sat there and I was like, oh man,
- 18:55Speaker 3: I got ten days to do nothing right. You can't
- 18:59Speaker 3: do it anything. You know, no one's gonna pick me.
- 19:01Speaker 3: No one was gonna pick me up. I wasn't making
- 19:03Speaker 3: too much money, so I I went on a road
- 19:05Speaker 3: trip with my family.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Well you got that fun with it, but yes, yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I mean, just listen.
- 19:11Speaker 3: It couldn't have better listen. It was twenty fourteen. I
- 19:13Speaker 3: got dfa'ed by the Red Sox. It just so happened.
- 19:17Speaker 3: It was right when the Hall of Fame induction in
- 19:19Speaker 3: Cooperstown was happening, and Frank Thomas had invited my family,
- 19:23Speaker 3: so they were already going. So we rented an RV
- 19:25Speaker 3: and drove from Orlando to Cooperstown with another family he
- 19:29Speaker 3: was also invited, made stops along the way. I sent
- 19:32Speaker 3: some videos of my agent and me taking soft toss,
- 19:35Speaker 3: like on a on a with a beer in my hand,
- 19:38Speaker 3: taking soft toss right because then I was in Cooperstown
- 19:41Speaker 3: and it just happened to work out. It was Frank's
- 19:43Speaker 3: induction and the whole thing, and then I signed with
- 19:45Speaker 3: the Cardinals. But like you know, the time for me
- 19:48Speaker 3: worked out, But like for one of these guys, and
- 19:50Speaker 3: plus I had already bad ten years and had a
- 19:52Speaker 3: lot of money. Luckily enough, stansked away. But like, this
- 19:55Speaker 3: is not a thing that most guys, it's hard. Scratched
- 20:00Speaker 3: it out way more time, so it's way harder.
- 20:08Speaker 4: So let's start with ESPN's buster only saying it seems
- 20:12Speaker 4: inevitable that the Mets will sign one of from Rivaldez
- 20:16Speaker 4: or Ranger Suarez as they continue to explore the starting
- 20:18Speaker 4: pitching market.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You know, I find this interesting.
- 20:21Speaker 2: They can have signed for one year or two years
- 20:22Speaker 2: because that's David Sterns m O.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Or are they giving in and signing to longer term deals.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I think I don't think one or two. I mean
- 20:30Speaker 4: Sean and I are signed for three. So is that
- 20:33Speaker 4: the biggest he's given out since he took over? Am
- 20:35Speaker 4: I missing anyone?
- 20:37Speaker 5: He's never given out more? With the Brewers, even I
- 20:39Speaker 5: mean he gave he gave out extensions to young pitchers.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, like Freddy p But that doesn't count.
- 20:44Speaker 4: So for free agents, Manaiah was the biggest one three
- 20:48Speaker 4: years seventy five.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Mili maybe that.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Framber Framber three years, three years eighty five?
- 20:57Speaker 2: Does he do it?
- 21:00Speaker 1: Tell me what else is out there.
- 21:03Speaker 2: He's not getting? Is Framber getting thirty anywhere else?
- 21:08Speaker 4: I think Framber's at the age where he's looking for
- 21:10Speaker 4: the biggest guarantee because he might have to take a
- 21:14Speaker 4: deal where it's got opt outs and he hops back
- 21:16Speaker 4: into the market. But if you're Framber, in fairness, you're
- 21:19Speaker 4: looking around, like what else do I have to prove
- 21:21Speaker 4: on the field, just you know, performance wise, statistics wise,
- 21:25Speaker 4: I think.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Framber's what thirty two years old.
- 21:27Speaker 4: It's one thing if you're taking your first crack a
- 21:30Speaker 4: free agency like here, I'll give you the example Michael
- 21:33Speaker 4: King coming off injury makes sense, right, you might end
- 21:36Speaker 4: up being just a one year to twenty two ish
- 21:38Speaker 4: million with the padres and some of that's deferred, I think,
- 21:40Speaker 4: and then he hops back into the market. Zach Allen
- 21:43Speaker 4: might have to do that based off the year that
- 21:44Speaker 4: he just came off of. If you're Framber Valdez, You're like,
- 21:47Speaker 4: I've been consistent as hell in terms of putting up
- 21:50Speaker 4: my overall numbers. I mean, yes, he goes through is
- 21:51Speaker 4: really hot and cold time during the season, but.
- 21:54Speaker 2: When he's good, he's really good.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But like, look a look at his numbers.
- 21:58Speaker 4: I mean, sure, he tailed up a little bit toe
- 22:00Speaker 4: it's the end of this past season, but you're looking
- 22:02Speaker 4: at a pretty consistent thirty ish starts for the past
- 22:05Speaker 4: four years, racking close to two hundred innings, and when
- 22:10Speaker 4: you get to the end of the season, the numbers
- 22:12Speaker 4: are pretty close, so you wouldn't think he would need
- 22:14Speaker 4: to do something like that. But I just don't know
- 22:18Speaker 4: who the big spenders are right now in the marketplace
- 22:21Speaker 4: for this kind of pitching talent. Do you It seems
- 22:23Speaker 4: like a lot of those teams are trade front, right.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Yankees have a lot of money, But are they spending
- 22:29Speaker 4: it on either of these guys or are they trying
- 22:30Speaker 4: to trade for Edward Cabrera or Freddy Peralte Orioles are
- 22:34Speaker 4: definitely in play. They've been linked to Rangers Suarez for
- 22:36Speaker 4: ten years now and it hasn't happened yet, But I
- 22:38Speaker 4: think it's.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Still could Braves.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I don't know if the Braves are going to spend
- 22:43Speaker 4: like that. I think they're more hanging around in case
- 22:46Speaker 4: the trade market opens. I don't know, maybe they would spend.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Like I'm just throwing teams out there, what teams, and
- 22:51Speaker 3: I'm throwing team names out.
- 22:52Speaker 1: There, mets in the Oriols.
- 22:54Speaker 3: The question for me is why did the Astros not
- 22:55Speaker 3: want to back They signed am I to a three year.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Was eighteen, it's gonna be three sixty three or one
- 23:06Speaker 4: year twenty something and then back to the free agent market.
- 23:09Speaker 4: But yes, they did that, they added who else am
- 23:13Speaker 4: I missing that they added?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Not Weiss? I know they added him too.
- 23:15Speaker 4: They added a trade but they got Mike Burrows, who
- 23:17Speaker 4: obviously has cost nothing. He's a league minimum. But why
- 23:20Speaker 4: didn't they want him back? Frambaldez isn't interesting.
- 23:25Speaker 3: No, it's just a question. I don't I.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Don't think we need to beat around the bush like
- 23:29Speaker 4: he had a massive incident this past year. It's massive, right,
- 23:31Speaker 4: everybody looked at that and said that's insane. He had
- 23:34Speaker 4: to go to the GM meetings and they made a
- 23:36Speaker 4: whole video and then teams decide for themselves.
- 23:39Speaker 1: But like we said when this happened. Some owners are
- 23:43Speaker 1: human beings.
- 23:43Speaker 4: They see this stuff just like they get excited when
- 23:45Speaker 4: they watch the playoffs and their team's not in it
- 23:47Speaker 4: and they see a guy shine and then they're like,
- 23:49Speaker 4: I want that guy.
- 23:50Speaker 1: They watched that incident.
- 23:51Speaker 4: It goes viral and they're like, ah, I don't want
- 23:53Speaker 4: that guy, even if he's good.
- 23:55Speaker 3: That is just wanted too much money. Scott, why do
- 23:58Speaker 3: you always get to go there?
- 23:59Speaker 1: I'm not always good there? But also Dylan C.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Scott two ten or if you want to get the
- 24:04Speaker 4: net present value, it's still high one hundreds.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And then the rest of the.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Markets are, oh, well, I put up numbers like that,
- 24:09Speaker 4: like Valdez has put up numbers like that. But teams say,
- 24:12Speaker 4: I like seas Beetter, So we don't think that you're
- 24:14Speaker 4: worth the one eighty five or whatever.
- 24:16Speaker 1: The number is, right giants, maybe.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Nah, they're not spending like that. They said it, and
- 24:20Speaker 4: they they went Molly and Adrian.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Hauser just don't you ask for teams that could do it?
- 24:27Speaker 1: Orioles Mets they both want to buy starters.
- 24:30Speaker 2: But okay, then where does Ranger and from or end up?
- 24:33Speaker 3: When it ends up at one place.
- 24:34Speaker 4: The other one is ranger to the Orioles, Framber to
- 24:37Speaker 4: the Mets. But I'm with Kratz here. I do think
- 24:39Speaker 4: he's going to end up getting a deal that's like
- 24:42Speaker 4: three years eighty five with an opt out after year
- 24:45Speaker 4: one and a high aav in year one, which is
- 24:47Speaker 4: like thirty million dollars or thirty five million dollars.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I have it for you.
- 24:51Speaker 5: I think if he gets if he gets five years,
- 24:55Speaker 5: one twenty from the Orioles or three years, I'll even
- 25:00Speaker 5: say ninety just for easy math. One is twenty four
- 25:04Speaker 5: a year for five years, the other one's thirty and
- 25:08Speaker 5: he gets to hit the hit the open market again.
- 25:11Speaker 5: I mean a year, three year, third ninety million dollar deal.
- 25:14Speaker 5: He's gonna have an opt out after the first year.
- 25:17Speaker 5: But which does he take. He's thirty two years old.
- 25:20Speaker 5: A five year deal puts him at thirty seven. Twenty
- 25:23Speaker 5: four a year doesn't put him up there with what
- 25:27Speaker 5: you know, with what Dylan s Scott thirty a year
- 25:30Speaker 5: per year. Now you're talking the same, you know, more
- 25:35Speaker 5: of the same realm.
- 25:38Speaker 1: It's a great question. You guys are players. What would
- 25:40Speaker 1: you guys do?
- 25:42Speaker 2: Depends where he's got this.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I take the one twenty.
- 25:45Speaker 2: I take you one twenty.
- 25:46Speaker 4: But yeah, take that as my big deal and call it.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I don't know what the next year. You know what
- 25:49Speaker 4: the next year might look like a disaster because you're
- 25:52Speaker 4: also going up against the CBA. Yes, So for me,
- 25:55Speaker 4: I'm taking the largest guarantee. If it's that different. If
- 25:59Speaker 4: you're saying ninety versus one hundred, maybe that's different. But
- 26:02Speaker 4: if you're saying ninety verses one twenty, there's a thirty
- 26:04Speaker 4: million dollar guarantee difference.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I'm setting in the one twenty.
- 26:08Speaker 5: So then who's making out? Who's making out in both
- 26:10Speaker 5: those cases? In my opinion, it's ownership. There's no such
- 26:15Speaker 5: thing as a bad one year deal. And if you
- 26:17Speaker 5: only have him for three years and he flops after
- 26:20Speaker 5: the first year, you know what, we spent less than
- 26:24Speaker 5: one hundred million dollars. So to me, either one of
- 26:27Speaker 5: those scenarios because of how things have been swinged swung
- 26:31Speaker 5: in the media and how they've been like put out
- 26:34Speaker 5: there about Valdez, because Scott you even did it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: You went, you were like, who doesn't like this guy?
- 26:39Speaker 2: Who doesn't well?
- 26:41Speaker 5: And then two minutes later you're like, remember that one
- 26:43Speaker 5: thing that was out there. Like Jim Bowden said, this
- 26:47Speaker 5: guy's work on the field should stand for itself. You
- 26:51Speaker 5: have an opportunity to converse with this guy about what
- 26:55Speaker 5: has happened, not just that incident, but you know other instances.
- 27:00Speaker 5: I just I just think it's a I think it's
- 27:04Speaker 5: too much swinging in the wrong direction. If this is
- 27:08Speaker 5: how players always have to go into their first year
- 27:10Speaker 5: free agency.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Look at Boris's clients. They've gotten paid.
- 27:14Speaker 5: But unfortunately, what if one of these guys gets hurt.
- 27:16Speaker 5: Now they're not getting paid. I mean, it worked out
- 27:18Speaker 5: for Chapman, it's most likely going to work out for Bregman.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Like they're getting these contracts that they should have gotten
- 27:24Speaker 5: their first year. It's another way of ownership saying you
- 27:27Speaker 5: made it to free agency, we're still going to stick
- 27:30Speaker 5: it to you for one more year.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And just to clarify a long comber, he's not a
- 27:34Speaker 4: Boris client, Pete Alonzo for sure. Well I'll give you
- 27:38Speaker 4: how that works too. Some of some of these guys
- 27:41Speaker 4: are getting attached to qualifying offers and teams hold that
- 27:44Speaker 4: against you way too much. But that but that goes
- 27:47Speaker 4: into a bigger conversation that we talk about and almost
- 27:49Speaker 4: no one else does.
- 27:50Speaker 1: The CBA.
- 27:52Speaker 4: They're like, hey, make sure you hold these dudes to
- 27:54Speaker 4: the fire with their qualifying offer because.
- 27:56Speaker 3: I don't understand why. I mean, I understand why teams
- 28:00Speaker 3: say the qualifying offer because you get a draft pick,
- 28:03Speaker 3: but how many I would love to see a stat
- 28:06Speaker 3: on these draft picks that actually turn into bona fide
- 28:09Speaker 3: frown ber Vell does all star type World series winning,
- 28:12Speaker 3: no hit or throwing players.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Some do, some don't.
- 28:16Speaker 3: But that's the thing, just so I get more money,
- 28:20Speaker 3: but they in the draft that I can. Then then
- 28:22Speaker 3: then GM can screw up.
- 28:23Speaker 1: It's worth so much and we're going to hold it against.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Fake money, like I'd rather have the good player, so
- 28:30Speaker 3: would many, but there are some that hold them up
- 28:33Speaker 3: against that.
- 28:33Speaker 4: But the point right now is who are the teams
- 28:36Speaker 4: on the market that are actually thinking about spending one
- 28:40Speaker 4: hundred plus million dollars on a free agent starter? And
- 28:43Speaker 4: do they think that guy is the perfect fit. I mean,
- 28:45Speaker 4: I'm still shocked about of my I think I'm the
- 28:47Speaker 4: high guy out of mine. I think he's going to
- 28:48Speaker 4: be a stud, but maybe I'm wrong. Other teams clearly
- 28:51Speaker 4: thought he's going to be a four or five or
- 28:53Speaker 4: maybe not even be a starter.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Like that's that's what was spoken there. I mean he's
- 28:57Speaker 1: got he's got.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Innings markers to hit that are like basically start games
- 29:02Speaker 4: and you'll hit the markers eighty ninety and one hundred.
- 29:05Speaker 4: So I mean to me, he's gonna hit the market
- 29:07Speaker 4: again after this year. But for these guys, clearly, there's
- 29:10Speaker 4: some teams that are like, I don't see it for Fromber,
- 29:12Speaker 4: like I like the Blue Jay, saw it for Dylan Cees.
- 29:15Speaker 4: And I do think Ranger Suarez will get a nice contract.
- 29:18Speaker 4: But we've talked about this. He's had some injuries and stuff.
- 29:20Speaker 4: He's not the perfect free agent starter available. He's gonna
- 29:23Speaker 4: get paid as young, yeah, And some teams would say, hey,
- 29:27Speaker 4: he's had some injuries early on in his career.
- 29:29Speaker 1: The mileage on.
- 29:30Speaker 4: The arm is less. You can paint it however you
- 29:32Speaker 4: want to paint it. That's always the bolt, right. You
- 29:36Speaker 4: can say, oh, he's had a few injuries, but you
- 29:37Speaker 4: can also say, Okay, he's had less mileage on the arm. Remember,
- 29:41Speaker 4: like he goes back to what we always say. James
- 29:42Speaker 4: Shields pitched a billion innings every year until he didn't.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Listen always goes back to this.
- 29:47Speaker 3: More teams almost talk to them to try to talk
- 29:50Speaker 3: themselves out of signing the free agent, instead of saying, man,
- 29:53Speaker 3: this guy could really help us even on a short
- 29:55Speaker 3: term deal. Let's throw a one year deal, you know,
- 29:58Speaker 3: with an opt out or whatever, like they Red Sox
- 30:00Speaker 3: did with Alex Bregman. It's just so much, so much,
- 30:04Speaker 3: always Oh now, they're always looking for the negatives because
- 30:08Speaker 3: when they're negotiating, that's what they're using with the agents.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Well, they always the same formulas now too.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Remember Rob Manford just did a thing where all the
- 30:15Speaker 3: minor league information has to be together same. Do you
- 30:18Speaker 3: think the teams don't talk about therefore, I'm not saying
- 30:21Speaker 3: they talk about players, but you don't think they all
- 30:24Speaker 3: because look at the front office movement this year from
- 30:29Speaker 3: the Red Sox from the Cubs, from this team, from
- 30:31Speaker 3: that team to the new you don't think that they
- 30:33Speaker 3: bring their formulas that they just learned with the old team.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Over most teams have the same shit too. There's like
- 30:38Speaker 4: a few slight differences.
- 30:40Speaker 3: So Bony came from where Boston, so he's gonna use
- 30:43Speaker 3: the same formula that the Red Sox used for years.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Hein Bloom came from Tampa, and then he went to
- 30:48Speaker 3: Boston and then he went now he's in Saint Louis.
- 30:50Speaker 3: They're all they're all using the same little formula, whatever
- 30:53Speaker 3: it is, because they're all intertwined throughout the league because
- 30:56Speaker 3: of the trees.
- 30:57Speaker 4: And then you know what happens last year. And I
- 30:59Speaker 4: talked about this the other day. Eventually a phone call
- 31:02Speaker 4: is made to Red Sox owner John Henry and they're like, hey, dude,
- 31:05Speaker 4: I know that your projection model says this is the contract.
- 31:08Speaker 4: It's not going to get him, and he's about to
- 31:10Speaker 4: sign with the Tigers. Do you actually want the player?
- 31:12Speaker 4: You have to go to this number. And then he's
- 31:14Speaker 4: like okay, and then that's what happened. So then you
- 31:16Speaker 4: throw everything out the windows. That's a real story.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That's how it works.
- 31:20Speaker 5: And you said before, Scott, you were like, the qualifying
- 31:23Speaker 5: offer is connected and and AJ was asking how many
- 31:27Speaker 5: what percentage do you guys think of first rounders because you.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Don't even get it.
- 31:32Speaker 5: You don't necessarily get a pick depending on what the
- 31:34Speaker 5: team is, but first rounders that make the big leagues
- 31:37Speaker 5: just make.
- 31:37Speaker 2: The big leagues.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Go ahead, I have no idea sixty.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Six percent, sixty six percent. So you have this on one side,
- 31:48Speaker 5: you have fran Boon Valdez, Ranger Suarez will start a
- 31:51Speaker 5: playoff game for you. Ask the Tigers how close they
- 31:54Speaker 5: were to make it to the next round, making it
- 31:57Speaker 5: to the World Series one ex pitcher? Would that have
- 32:01Speaker 5: done it for him? To this side, you say sixty
- 32:04Speaker 5: six percent chance of you know what, a guy could
- 32:08Speaker 5: make the big leagues. It's not even like you're talking
- 32:10Speaker 5: about in this hand. The qualifying offer is getting you
- 32:13Speaker 5: a superstar. It's getting somebody who has a sixty six
- 32:17Speaker 5: percent chance of making the big leagues. If you're only
- 32:19Speaker 5: basing it on numbers, why would you not take what's
- 32:22Speaker 5: rate in front of you. If you're a team that says, ah, man,
- 32:26Speaker 5: we're so close, the Tigers, the Mariners, the like teams
- 32:31Speaker 5: that are so close. If you can add a player
- 32:33Speaker 5: for a specific locked in amount of money, why would
- 32:38Speaker 5: you not make that move because it inhibits your job?
- 32:43Speaker 5: Like it makes you look like, ooh, you know what,
- 32:45Speaker 5: this could keep my job for a longer time. Like
- 32:47Speaker 5: the qualifying offer is crazy to me. It's crazy to
- 32:50Speaker 5: me talking about a kid that's in college right now
- 32:52Speaker 5: or high school right now is a possibility of making
- 32:54Speaker 5: the big leagues in five years.
- 32:57Speaker 1: What where the hell are the club?
- 33:00Speaker 3: Yeah exactly what Wait what who has a sixty six
- 33:03Speaker 3: percent chance?
- 33:04Speaker 1: He's saying, first round pick? If you get sixty six all.
- 33:09Speaker 3: First round picks have a sixty six percent chance just
- 33:11Speaker 3: to make it.
- 33:12Speaker 5: The thing that, yeah, the thing that I looked up
- 33:14Speaker 5: says sixty six percent of first rounders make it to
- 33:19Speaker 5: play at least one game in the big leagues.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Okay, I just want to point this out quick, but.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I mean I look at it. I mean I played
- 33:26Speaker 3: just a lot of guys that were for high first
- 33:27Speaker 3: round picks and this and that and their careers. Yeah,
- 33:30Speaker 3: they made the big leagues. I used Josh Booty. There's
- 33:33Speaker 3: a guy named Josh Boody. He was like the tenth
- 33:35Speaker 3: overall pick. He got like a cup of coffee because
- 33:38Speaker 3: he was only because he was a first round pick.
- 33:40Speaker 3: And they're like, well, we have to validate the first
- 33:42Speaker 3: round pick. Yep, right, Like, there was a lot of
- 33:44Speaker 3: guys that you know, first I mean I played with
- 33:47Speaker 3: with and against a lot of first round picks that
- 33:49Speaker 3: only made it because they made make the organization oh,
- 33:52Speaker 3: we got this one right. He's in the big leagues
- 33:54Speaker 3: because he was a first round pick.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Impact, first round is a very small person.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I mean impact, and it goes down as you go
- 34:02Speaker 3: down in the rounds, clearly. But yeah, it's just the
- 34:06Speaker 3: qualifying offer to me.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Is just.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Draft we overvalue because there's teams I'll use the Dodgers.
- 34:16Speaker 3: The Dodgers pick at the bottom of the first round,
- 34:18Speaker 3: they go sign They give up draft picks all the time,
- 34:20Speaker 3: and you know what they still do. They still develop
- 34:22Speaker 3: guys that they can trade away and make up they
- 34:24Speaker 3: can player. You know why, because it's development. It's not
- 34:27Speaker 3: always about where you draft. It's about who you draft
- 34:30Speaker 3: and how you develop. I'm with you, I mean because
- 34:33Speaker 3: nowadays the draft, the first pick in the draft ain't
- 34:36Speaker 3: always the best player either, because teams have slots don't
- 34:41Speaker 3: make It's crazy because.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I went I just went through with my son.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Not my son getting drafted, but teams calling and other
- 34:47Speaker 3: kids on his high school team that were one was drafted,
- 34:50Speaker 3: a couple of could have been drafted, but they're like, hey,
- 34:53Speaker 3: we'll draft you if you'll sign for X, y Z,
- 34:57Speaker 3: and like the higher you get in the draft, like
- 34:59Speaker 3: They want to know if they're if they're using a
- 35:02Speaker 3: top three round pick on you, that you're gonna sign. Hey, don't,
- 35:06Speaker 3: don't Whoever who had the first pick this year the Rockies, No,
- 35:10Speaker 3: who was it? I forget who whoever had the first
- 35:12Speaker 3: pick this year?
- 35:13Speaker 2: They called whoever they they.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Drafted and they're like, hey, can we get you instead
- 35:17Speaker 3: of the slot being nine million dollars the Gnats, right,
- 35:20Speaker 3: the slot.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Let's say the slot was ten million this year.
- 35:22Speaker 1: And that's just did this. By the way, this is
- 35:24Speaker 1: the perfect example the Nets.
- 35:25Speaker 3: That's what it's all like. They didn't take They called
- 35:27Speaker 3: it the top ten prospects and said, hey, will you
- 35:30Speaker 3: signed for seven instead of ten, so that way we
- 35:33Speaker 3: can save the three million for later. And whoever said yes,
- 35:36Speaker 3: that was who they drafted for.
- 35:37Speaker 4: Yeah, they got Eli Willitts. They got will There were
- 35:40Speaker 4: other phone calls made. Well, yeah, the dream scenario, it's
- 35:44Speaker 4: not the dream. But the Pirates picked Henry Davis. He
- 35:47Speaker 4: took underslot as a one to one and then they
- 35:51Speaker 4: they luckily saved face by getting Bubba Chandler later on.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Well, my question is is baseball the only spot with
- 35:57Speaker 3: this matters where what matters? Slot value who you picked,
- 36:02Speaker 3: because if you go in football, they picked the best player.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Draft is fucked.
- 36:07Speaker 3: It's right, okay, so then let's then let's go u NBA.
- 36:11Speaker 3: They usually picked the best player, right, Yes.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Do you know why this is all created like this?
- 36:16Speaker 4: It's because we have this annoying cap system in the
- 36:18Speaker 4: draft and that's why it's not popular and in the mainstream,
- 36:22Speaker 4: and no one understands how it all works. And they're like, wait,
- 36:24Speaker 4: the best player didn't go one, two, three, four or five.
- 36:27Speaker 4: The best player went seven. It's I can go all
- 36:29Speaker 4: day on that, but that is a thing. Let's get
- 36:32Speaker 4: to one more rumor. Back to Buster Only's report on
- 36:37Speaker 4: the Red Sox making an aggressive offer for Alex Bregman.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Can we show this tweet?
- 36:41Speaker 4: Our friend Jared Krabas commented on this in the morning,
- 36:46Speaker 4: So Tyler Milliken put out this tweet to summarize what
- 36:48Speaker 4: buster only said aggressive offer for Bregman today. He says
- 36:52Speaker 4: they've signaled a willingness to pay him big money, maybe
- 36:55Speaker 4: something in the range of six years, one seventy one
- 36:57Speaker 4: point five million crabs. If this is real and Bragman
- 37:01Speaker 4: hasn't accepted it yet, then what the fuck are we
- 37:03Speaker 4: doing here. I'm with Jared here, that's a very healthy
- 37:07Speaker 4: offer to Alex Bragman. I still have this lingering question
- 37:11Speaker 4: in my mind, is Arizona more involved than we think?
- 37:17Speaker 4: And does Alex have an inclination to maybe end up there,
- 37:23Speaker 4: to be there full time and do the Corbyn Burns
- 37:26Speaker 4: kind of situation right, like if the money's close from Arizona. No,
- 37:30Speaker 4: you don't think there's any factor there. And you guys
- 37:32Speaker 4: are the players. You tell me tax Arizona taxes living
- 37:36Speaker 4: there year round. It's an appealing place and it's also
- 37:39Speaker 4: it's not a bad team, it's a good franchise. Yeah,
- 37:43Speaker 4: you don't think that's a factor here like that they're
- 37:46Speaker 4: still dancing around and the numbers are close. No, because otherwise,
- 37:49Speaker 4: like Jared said, like what are we waiting for here?
- 37:51Speaker 4: That seems like a very healthy offer. Is he getting
- 37:53Speaker 4: more than that? I don't think he's getting two hundred
- 37:55Speaker 4: million dollars?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Do you? No? That seems like a pretty nice for someone.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Have better than that, that's what he's hoping.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Maybe, I don't think maybe the name the maybe part
- 38:07Speaker 5: of it. Tyler Milliken put maybe six years Well, he didn't.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Even put that that was He's just aggregating from Buster
- 38:16Speaker 4: Onney's reports, so and and Buster might not have I mean,
- 38:19Speaker 4: usually when someone tries to put the exact number off
- 38:21Speaker 4: or out, it's it's often a miss.
- 38:24Speaker 1: So I'm just throwing that out there. But if that
- 38:28Speaker 1: was the case, He's like.
- 38:30Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think, and obviously I had
- 38:35Speaker 5: no idea. I don't think that the Diamondbacks are the
- 38:39Speaker 5: ones that have to make the offer first. And I
- 38:42Speaker 5: think the Red Sox have the let us know what
- 38:47Speaker 5: everybody else offers. They don't want to bid against themselves.
- 38:50Speaker 5: But I don't see I don't see how they don't
- 38:52Speaker 5: get Bregman. And I think that's how they they put it,
- 38:57Speaker 5: and because they saw what he can do. And I
- 38:59Speaker 5: think it's wait for wait for the Diamondbacks to make
- 39:03Speaker 5: the offer and then and then I think the Red
- 39:06Speaker 5: Sox will either match it, top it, whatever that, whatever
- 39:10Speaker 5: that needs to be.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Sometimes you're not given that luxury that happened last year
- 39:15Speaker 4: with the Tigers.
- 39:16Speaker 1: It's like, you sure that's your last offer? Cool, Red
- 39:18Speaker 1: Sox just beat you. We gone. Schwarber just did that
- 39:21Speaker 1: with the Reds.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Red's told him, hey, come back, we can go higher,
- 39:25Speaker 4: and he's like, nah, number up that I was looking
- 39:28Speaker 4: for later. I know it's different, but I'm just saying
- 39:30Speaker 4: they don't get they don't get the honor of getting
- 39:34Speaker 4: last call just because they had him for one season.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I think some organizations do when you play for that team.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I think some organizations do.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I believe that.
- 39:43Speaker 5: I know that with some organizations because that's how some
- 39:48Speaker 5: of my buddies have done their contracts.
- 39:51Speaker 4: I know, but that that's not a rule, like he
- 39:53Speaker 4: played for them a rule. But if you were him,
- 39:57Speaker 4: would you think that he needs to give them the
- 40:01Speaker 4: benefit of last call offer?
- 40:04Speaker 1: No, you would be like, YO, tell me what I'm worth.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Throw it out there, you be off.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It's a one time you get to do this.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Here is I'm gonna make a decision. Give me your
- 40:12Speaker 2: best offer.
- 40:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna just side deciding today. What's your best offer.
- 40:16Speaker 4: I'm not coming back to you with my other ship.
- 40:18Speaker 5: That's only your I disagree. I disagree, Arizona says one
- 40:22Speaker 5: sixty five minutes. Arizona says one sixty. Hey, Boston, I'm
- 40:28Speaker 5: about to sign. It's one sixty.
- 40:30Speaker 2: What do you got?
- 40:31Speaker 5: They say, one sixty five? Arizona they just said one sixty.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Isn't that how negotiations work? Like, why do we have
- 40:38Speaker 5: to like's not they don't do is throw numbers out there.
- 40:42Speaker 4: But also that is not how it works for most cases.
- 40:45Speaker 4: They do not do the back and forth. Oh, this
- 40:47Speaker 4: team said this, This team said that. Part of that
- 40:50Speaker 4: actually has to do with something you bring up and
- 40:52Speaker 4: we all bring up all the time, like you you're
- 40:55Speaker 4: trying to play a mystery game because you're already fighting
- 40:57Speaker 4: against collusion, even the indirect collusion of everyone using the
- 41:01Speaker 4: same models. So the best way to counter that is
- 41:04Speaker 4: to actually make it more of a mysterious process, like
- 41:07Speaker 4: I've got something it's hot today, I'm gonna take it
- 41:10Speaker 4: and don't even give them time to figure out who
- 41:12Speaker 4: it is and what the offer is.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know, I do.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I know that's a thing.
- 41:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree with you that that's a thing. But
- 41:22Speaker 5: as the player, you want them to negotiate against each other.
- 41:25Speaker 5: And I think the leverage is in Bregman's hands with
- 41:31Speaker 5: the Red Sox.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree, the leverage is in his hands, But
- 41:35Speaker 4: I don't think he has to go back to them
- 41:36Speaker 4: and say, hey, John, can you beat the better offer
- 41:41Speaker 4: that I found. Like they're the Red Sox. They can
- 41:43Speaker 4: they can handle their own big boy offer on their own,
- 41:45Speaker 4: so whatever, I would go back, Leo, take it away.
- 41:58Speaker 4: That's a good one today. Regular seasons for Shoho Tani
- 42:01Speaker 4: bet MGM.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Futures up. They have him at forty nine and a
- 42:04Speaker 1: half homers.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Over unders for me. Okay, easy under und right now?
- 42:10Speaker 1: Under pitching full time, that's true, full season of pitching, full.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Season of pitching. I think he's gonna miss some time
- 42:19Speaker 2: at some point, just because.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I don't know. I hate it.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I hope it doesn't happen.
- 42:24Speaker 1: But that's not even saying like I hope it doesn't happen.
- 42:28Speaker 4: The Dodgers are very cautious with everyone because they play
- 42:31Speaker 4: the marathon game of we're trying to win a World Series.
- 42:34Speaker 1: We can get through the regular season with what we have.
- 42:36Speaker 3: I think he hits forty two.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Okay, I love this. I'm on the under train as well.
- 42:43Speaker 1: One time, lock it.
- 42:46Speaker 2: I like it.
- 42:46Speaker 4: That's an easy one today. And let's cue a little
- 42:49Speaker 4: basketball betting action for you, since besides futures, there's not
- 42:53Speaker 4: much we can do until in the World Baseball Classic,
- 42:55Speaker 4: which is actually coming up soon. But if you're betting
- 42:58Speaker 4: on the NBA this season, something to take a little
- 43:00Speaker 4: pressure off your picks. The NBA No Sweat token and
- 43:03Speaker 4: you get your stake back in bonus bets up to
- 43:06Speaker 4: one thousand dollars. First you log in and grab that
- 43:09Speaker 4: token next to your place a qualifying NBA bet and
- 43:11Speaker 4: attach the token in your bet slip, and if your
- 43:14Speaker 4: bet doesn't win, you get your steak back in bonus bets.
- 43:16Speaker 4: So go hard on the paint gambling problem or concern
- 43:20Speaker 4: called one eight hundred gambler.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Two things on the way out. Let's do kratz ats.
- 43:35Speaker 4: First, since I forgot it yesterday, we got busy, but
- 43:38Speaker 4: we clearly knew what you were wearing yesterday.
- 43:40Speaker 1: It was a pirate hat.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Today, yeah, case you had an XKC guy. I was
- 43:46Speaker 2: on the team.
- 43:47Speaker 5: I didn't play, but I was on the team for
- 43:49Speaker 5: a case. And then we brought in Strom who's currently
- 43:52Speaker 5: case Why not?
- 43:54Speaker 1: That's right.
- 43:54Speaker 4: We did have the big Royals connection today, good call.
- 43:57Speaker 4: And then one move we didn't get to because I mean,
- 44:00Speaker 4: there weren't any major moves last night in terms of signings,
- 44:03Speaker 4: but we covered big Christmas and then justin Henry molloy,
- 44:05Speaker 4: who's been on the show before, is actually a big
- 44:07Speaker 4: FT fan, is joining up with the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 44:10Speaker 4: The Tigers traded him for cash, as most Tigers fans choked.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Hopefully they can use that cash on everybody's favorite Terrek Schoogle.
- 44:20Speaker 1: It's not that kind of cash, guys. No, they didn't
- 44:23Speaker 1: sell them.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Away from millions of dollars in a great interview, justin
- 44:28Speaker 4: Henry mlay, Yes, great interview.
- 44:30Speaker 3: And Jayden Ball's back. That damn Ball. You don't know
- 44:34Speaker 3: who that is.
- 44:35Speaker 2: I don't care. Kratzi'll look at me like that.
- 44:36Speaker 3: But Jayden Ball's back.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I don't know what that means. I know, people all
- 44:41Speaker 2: look it up if you know, you know, google me
- 44:46Speaker 2: it's j d A And by the way, Bau and
- 44:49Speaker 2: gu to.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Look it up. I wait, guests on the way out,
- 44:53Speaker 1: Oh what Kratz just looked it up. I'm looking up
- 44:57Speaker 1: our guest list real quick.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Oh.
- 45:01Speaker 2: The transfer portal is so crazy to me.
- 45:03Speaker 5: We got we got football players leaving their school and
- 45:07Speaker 5: then visiting the same school in the transfer portal.
- 45:11Speaker 2: By the way, there's what was it?
- 45:13Speaker 3: There's five thousand people in the transfer portal for football
- 45:17Speaker 3: if you think they're all gonna find because there's also
- 45:19Speaker 3: a whole crew of high school kids that is coming in.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Why don't they sign these guys to like three year deals.
- 45:23Speaker 2: You can't, you have to go year to year.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Well that they should.
- 45:26Speaker 3: The whole thing is stupid.
- 45:27Speaker 1: They should.
- 45:28Speaker 3: The whole thing is there's got to be a better
