- 0:07Speaker 1: Sometimes it isn't about hanging out with the wrong people
- 0:10Speaker 1: or angering a bad person. Sometimes crime and brutality can
- 0:15Speaker 1: strike when you least expect it. In the case today,
- 0:19Speaker 1: it struck right before a couple were headed out on
- 0:22Speaker 1: a date for the evening. They just simply were at
- 0:25Speaker 1: the wrong place at the wrong time, and it cost
- 0:29Speaker 1: them their lives. This is the case of Shannon Christian
- 0:35Speaker 1: and Christopher Newsome.
- 0:38Speaker 2: My name's Ben, I'm Nicole, and you're listening to Wicked Ingram,
- 0:42Speaker 2: a true crime podcast. Warning.
- 0:45Speaker 3: The following podcast.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And material intended for at your audience listener discretion.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Ad Oh, that's a good sound.
- 1:17Speaker 2: You need that to stay up.
- 1:19Speaker 1: No, I need coffee to stay up. This is going
- 1:21Speaker 1: to put me to sleep after this podcast, That's what
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's going to do.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's like way past Ben's bedtime.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It is officially ten minutes past my bedtime because it
- 1:29Speaker 1: is ten ten pm.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but your bedtime is earlier than ten. I think
- 1:33Speaker 2: it's it's getting closer to at least nine thirty maybe nine.
- 1:37Speaker 1: No, my bedtime is ten, but trust me, I wish
- 1:41Speaker 1: it was eight.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah. You love like It's just funny how adults just
- 1:45Speaker 2: like love going to bed.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Okay, I going.
- 1:49Speaker 2: To bed is the best, Like, it really is the best.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I used to be like the biggest night person, and
- 1:55Speaker 1: the last couple of years it's turned around and I'm like,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm more of a morning person. I Like, I don't
- 2:00Speaker 1: like getting up super early, but I like getting up
- 2:02Speaker 1: at a decent time and going to bed nice and
- 2:05Speaker 1: early and getting a good sleep.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's just oh so.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Nice that feeling of like laying down in your bed
- 2:11Speaker 2: for like the first time, like laying down basically probably
- 2:14Speaker 2: for the first time that day. Yeah, it feels fucking amazing.
- 2:17Speaker 3: It does.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And if you can do it while scrolling on your
- 2:20Speaker 1: phone and not dropping your phone in your face, you've won.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Oh boy, excuse me, that came out of nowhere. We
- 2:29Speaker 3: are still recovering being sickly.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We're very much so still recovering.
- 2:33Speaker 1: The coughs and sniffles kind of catch us once in
- 2:35Speaker 1: a while, but we're we're doing good. We're doing much better.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I feel like my voice sounds a lot better than
- 2:39Speaker 2: even the last one.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, definitely our voices come aways.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But I did want to touch on one more thing
- 2:46Speaker 1: before we get this episode started. We do have the
- 2:49Speaker 1: deadfall murder Mystery event that we are hosting on the
- 2:54Speaker 1: twenty fourth of October. October twenty fourth for Halloween, completely
- 2:57Speaker 1: original story written by us. We got some cool people
- 3:01Speaker 1: who are gonna be helping us out doing some some
- 3:03Speaker 1: NPC stuff. You go around, you talk to them, you
- 3:05Speaker 1: solve a mystery in the nineteen twenties.
- 3:08Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good time.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's going to be fantastic. If you want to check out,
- 3:12Speaker 1: the tickets for that are available on our Facebook page,
- 3:16Speaker 1: head over there. You can follow the link and go
- 3:18Speaker 1: ahead and purchase your tickets. But like I said, it
- 3:21Speaker 1: is an in person event, so it's not an online thing,
- 3:24Speaker 1: so you have to be local to us for it.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I do think we should put a little link on
- 3:28Speaker 2: Instagram as well. And did you already say that it's
- 3:31Speaker 2: already half sold half sold out?
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's fifty potent sold outs.
- 3:34Speaker 2: So yeah, well we'll probably put a post or link
- 3:38Speaker 2: on Instagram as well. We'll try to get some then
- 3:40Speaker 2: sold out because it's going to be epic.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be a good one, that's for sure.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I'm stoked. I just get to like drink beer and
- 3:47Speaker 3: be all like old timey it's cool.
- 3:49Speaker 2: So it's like murder you on a daily basis. It's like,
- 3:52Speaker 2: no different.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I mean, you're not wrong, You're not wrong. Okay, let's
- 3:58Speaker 1: we're gonna stop with all this. We're gonna get to
- 4:00Speaker 1: the case. Are you ready for this case?
- 4:03Speaker 2: No, because I a hate when you're in the wrong
- 4:06Speaker 2: place at the wrong time. And it sounds like it
- 4:08Speaker 2: might be kind of like relatablesh.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it kind of is. It's definitely a wrong place,
- 4:13Speaker 1: the wrong time sort of situation. And this is a
- 4:17Speaker 1: fairly brutal case. Okay, so I will be sparing some details,
- 4:24Speaker 1: but at the same time, I will be talking about
- 4:26Speaker 1: some some of the brutality that goes along with it.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Hey, okay, let's do it.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Okay, before we do, I feel a cough coming on.
- 4:34Speaker 1: We're gonna pause us real quick and get into the episode. Okay,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I got it. We're good.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We're good.
- 4:39Speaker 3: We're good.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Okay, let's get to the case. So on the evening
- 4:42Speaker 1: of Saturday, January sixth, two thousand and seven, Christopher or
- 4:46Speaker 1: Chris Newman and his girlfriend Shannon Christian went out together,
- 4:51Speaker 1: unaware that it was going to be their last night alive. Now,
- 4:54Speaker 1: Chris Newman was twenty three born on September twenty first,
- 4:57Speaker 1: nineteen eighty three in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a former
- 5:00Speaker 1: baseball player for Hall's High School Red Devils, from which
- 5:04Speaker 1: he graduated in two thousand and two. After high school,
- 5:07Speaker 1: he attended Pelisippi State Technical Community College and became a
- 5:11Speaker 1: skilled carpenter. Chris loved staying active and enjoyed a range
- 5:16Speaker 1: of hobbies, including golf, fishing, tennis, and baseball. Of course,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it was something that was one of his passions all
- 5:23Speaker 1: through life, but in recent years golf had kind of
- 5:26Speaker 1: taken a little bit more of a center stage. He
- 5:29Speaker 1: could often be found on the golf course. If you're
- 5:30Speaker 1: looking for him, you look on the golf course. That
- 5:33Speaker 1: was the first place you look. But if he wasn't there,
- 5:35Speaker 1: he might be fishing or playing tennis as well. Above all, though,
- 5:39Speaker 1: Chris was most obsessed with spending time with Shannon, the
- 5:43Speaker 1: woman who he was deeply in love with.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, my heart.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Shanning Gale.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Christian was twenty one years old and was born on
- 5:51Speaker 1: April twenty ninth, nineteen eighty five, in Knakadoches, Texas. I
- 5:56Speaker 1: hope I said that right now. In nineteen ninety seven,
- 5:59Speaker 1: her family moved from Louisiana to Tennessee, but did a
- 6:02Speaker 1: little bit of moving when she was younger as well.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And yeah, Shannon graduated from Farget High School in two
- 6:09Speaker 1: thousand and three and was a senior at the University
- 6:12Speaker 1: of Tennessee Knoxville, majoring in sociology. She had plans to
- 6:16Speaker 1: graduate in December of two thousand and seven, this very year,
- 6:20Speaker 1: looking ahead to her bright future now. Like Chris, Shannon
- 6:24Speaker 1: had a love of golf. She grew up surrounded by
- 6:27Speaker 1: the game, often tagging along with her dad and brother,
- 6:30Speaker 1: until she eventually started to play the game and pick
- 6:32Speaker 1: it up herself. Now, Chris and Shannon hadn't been dating
- 6:36Speaker 1: for very long, it only been about two months, but
- 6:39Speaker 1: they were already head over heels in love with each other.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Shannon's mother described how happy her daughter was with Chris,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and that was very clear Chris had fallen hard for Shannon.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it's like the kind of the honeymoon
- 6:53Speaker 2: phase or so right. Yeah, yeah, that's.
- 6:56Speaker 1: What the honeymoon phase, for sure. But it seemed like
- 6:58Speaker 1: these two it hit hard, and they'd hit fast.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Love at first sight they were meant to be.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Exactly now, the young couple seem to have this promising
- 7:06Speaker 1: future together, filled with love and shared interests. Of course,
- 7:10Speaker 1: but we're here to talk about a specific night, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: that night was on the night of January sixth, two
- 7:15Speaker 1: thousand and seven. Chris and Shannon planned to celebrate a
- 7:18Speaker 1: friend's birthday party together that night in Knoxville. The evening
- 7:21Speaker 1: was supposed to begin with Shannon getting ready at a
- 7:24Speaker 1: friend's apartment, where Chris would later meet up with her.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So after that they planned to start the night off
- 7:31Speaker 1: with a date and grabbed dinner together, then from there
- 7:34Speaker 1: head to their friend's birthday party for an evening of
- 7:36Speaker 1: fun and movies. As planned, Shannon was at her friend's
- 7:40Speaker 1: apartment preparing for the night when Chris arrived. He parked
- 7:43Speaker 1: his truck sometime after nine pm and joined Shannon at
- 7:46Speaker 1: her car, which was actually a Toyota of four runners,
- 7:49Speaker 1: so it's actually actually an suv or however you want
- 7:52Speaker 1: to describe it vehicle, I guess, and join her at
- 7:55Speaker 1: her vehicle in the parking lot, and they planned to
- 7:57Speaker 1: take her vehicle from the parking lot for the rest
- 8:00Speaker 1: of the evening. Ye so presumably either she had the
- 8:04Speaker 1: nicer vehicle, had the one that was an easier on gas,
- 8:07Speaker 1: or she was going to be dd I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 1: There's plenty of reason, but whatever reason, they're taking her
- 8:12Speaker 1: vehicle now. In a quiet moment before they left that
- 8:15Speaker 1: parking lot, the couple took a moment to embrace each other.
- 8:19Speaker 1: They were holding each other in their arms lovingly, perhaps
- 8:21Speaker 1: even sharing a few kisses back and forth. But however,
- 8:25Speaker 1: they were completely unaware that they were being watched. In
- 8:30Speaker 1: that moment when they were holding each other, four men
- 8:32Speaker 1: approached the couple from the shadows.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Four men.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Four four.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Wow, that's too verifying.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Four okay, yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Shannon and Chris were immediately forced into the back seat
- 8:45Speaker 1: of Shannon's Toyota four Runner at gunpoint. Their captors tied
- 8:49Speaker 1: their hands behind their back to restrain them and prevent
- 8:52Speaker 1: any chance from escape. The couple were terrified and of
- 8:55Speaker 1: course helpless. From there, they were driven to two three
- 8:59Speaker 1: one six Chipman Street, a house that belonged to one
- 9:02Speaker 1: of the attackers by the name of Lamarchius Davidson. But
- 9:05Speaker 1: we'll talk more about him later.
- 9:08Speaker 3: There.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I mean, there appeared to be no real specific reason
- 9:14Speaker 1: why Shannon and Chris have been targeted this night. The
- 9:16Speaker 1: attackers didn't know the couple. They were likely just simply
- 9:19Speaker 1: chosen at random, viewed as vulnerable or easy prey in
- 9:22Speaker 1: that very moment. And now they were at this house,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and the nightmare intensified. Inside, a fifth person was waiting
- 9:31Speaker 1: along with the four men who initially abducted them. There
- 9:34Speaker 1: was now a woman present as well, making it five
- 9:37Speaker 1: captors in total. What had begun as a seemingly opportunistic
- 9:42Speaker 1: car jacking for these individuals quickly escalated into something more
- 9:46Speaker 1: sinister and violent. The reason for the escalation is unclear,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but the situation turned dark and brutal very fast. The
- 9:58Speaker 1: captors separated both Shannon and Chris, placing them in different
- 10:02Speaker 1: rooms within the house. It was in these separate rooms
- 10:05Speaker 1: that the abuse would begin, marking a start of a
- 10:10Speaker 1: very unimaginable ordeal for the young couple. The timeline of
- 10:16Speaker 1: the falling events are a bit unclear, but Chris was
- 10:20Speaker 1: brutally attacked in his room that he was being held in.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He was sodomized and raped by at least one of
- 10:28Speaker 1: the men, and violently assaulted as well. They used objects
- 10:34Speaker 1: to beat to assault oh Man they did not hold
- 10:38Speaker 1: back wow. The exact duration of the nightmare Chris and
- 10:42Speaker 1: Shannon endured is also unknown, but in the early hours
- 10:46Speaker 1: of Sunday morning, Chris was removed from the house after
- 10:49Speaker 1: enduring an assault for who knows how long, and was
- 10:53Speaker 1: taken away. His captors led him to a secluded spot
- 10:56Speaker 1: near some railroad tracks. Chris, stripped down to just his
- 11:00Speaker 1: shirt and his underwear, was now forced to walk barefoot
- 11:03Speaker 1: through the dirt, his hands tightly bound behind his back.
- 11:07Speaker 1: His eyes were covered with a bandanna so he couldn't
- 11:10Speaker 1: see where he was going, and his mouth was gagged
- 11:13Speaker 1: with a sock stuffed in his mouth. His feet were
- 11:16Speaker 1: also bound, though it's unclear whether this happened before or
- 11:19Speaker 1: after he was made to walk, but Chris either way
- 11:23Speaker 1: was marched to a location near the tracks, where his
- 11:27Speaker 1: captors forced him to his knees. Still blindfolded and gagged,
- 11:32Speaker 1: he knelt helplessly in the dirt, unable to defend himself.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The assailants fired two shots at Chris. The first struck
- 11:43Speaker 1: his neck and the second hit him in the back,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but neither of these shots were immediately fatal. Chris lay
- 11:50Speaker 1: on the ground in agony but still alone.
- 11:54Speaker 2: This is just freaking brutal.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Then, in a final calculated active cruelty, one of the
- 12:00Speaker 1: assailants pressed the muzzle of the gun directly against Chris's head,
- 12:04Speaker 1: just above his right ear, and they pulled the trigger.
- 12:10Speaker 1: The bullet pierced his skull and severed his brain stem,
- 12:14Speaker 1: killing Chris instantly.
- 12:16Speaker 2: H wow. And meanwhile, his girlfriend is still at the house.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Correct, she is still at the house.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Holy shit. I can't even just imagine what is like
- 12:27Speaker 2: going through his head. And also the fact that this
- 12:31Speaker 2: is like the start of a year, right, like you
- 12:33Speaker 2: always think, and you said it was like January sixth
- 12:36Speaker 2: or seventh or something, and you always think, like, I
- 12:39Speaker 2: don't know, new Year is just like it's exciting and
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's like full of possibility. Yeah, and this happens.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yep, it is January sixth, and yeah. Usually people have
- 12:49Speaker 1: they're trying to, you know, forget some of the bad
- 12:52Speaker 1: things that happened to them in the previous year, looking
- 12:55Speaker 1: forward to the good things. And unfortunately, Yeah, this is
- 13:01Speaker 1: a brutal start in.
- 13:02Speaker 3: The year for them.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Well yeah, it's still it's almost even still you're kind
- 13:05Speaker 2: of still celebrating, like the holiday season, right, Yeah, you're
- 13:09Speaker 2: not quite moved on yet, so yeah, wow.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Now I did tell you that there's a lot of
- 13:14Speaker 1: brutality in this, and I am kind of cutting out
- 13:17Speaker 1: much of the details with the brutality. Most of that
- 13:21Speaker 1: brutality in the details that I am leaving out are
- 13:24Speaker 1: regarding the assault in the bedroom. So it's going to
- 13:28Speaker 1: be the physical assault, the physical abuse, the sexual assault.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Those are the things that I'm not really talking too
- 13:35Speaker 1: much about. It's hard to get into the details because honestly,
- 13:39Speaker 1: a lot of the details are unknown. But when it
- 13:42Speaker 1: comes to things like the autopsies, the autopsies or what
- 13:45Speaker 1: paint the picture of the brutality that they endured within
- 13:49Speaker 1: those walls, and it's horrendous gosh.
- 13:53Speaker 2: And it doesn't even make sense though, because they were
- 13:56Speaker 2: still I mean, I'm sure you'll get into this, but
- 13:57Speaker 2: they were still in that parking lot, like obviously waiting
- 14:01Speaker 2: for somebody or something, right, not really it they just
- 14:08Speaker 2: like saw an opportunity and like went with it. Basically
- 14:11Speaker 2: they That doesn't make I don't know, I don't understand
- 14:13Speaker 2: that because it doesn't make sense that someone would just
- 14:15Speaker 2: be like like they would just decide to do something
- 14:19Speaker 2: so like peer Evil.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That's kind of how it played out. I mean, they
- 14:23Speaker 1: may have gone out with the intention of carjacking, right,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but that's about it, and then from there it turned
- 14:30Speaker 1: into this Wow. Okay, okay, Now there's a lot of
- 14:37Speaker 1: there's a lot of details in this case that I'm
- 14:39Speaker 1: not actually talking about in this podcast. And the reason
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean, of course, we always want to do deep
- 14:44Speaker 1: dives and we want to talk about those details, but
- 14:46Speaker 1: the details are mostly unknown. And we're talking about five
- 14:51Speaker 1: assailants here. So when you're doing an investigation and you
- 14:54Speaker 1: have five assailants, which later on will learn, of course,
- 14:57Speaker 1: they point the finger at each other, and they don't
- 14:59Speaker 1: actually talk about really what happened.
- 15:00Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 15:02Speaker 1: All we have is he said, she said, she said,
- 15:04Speaker 1: he said, he said, he said, and it's just all
- 15:07Speaker 1: of it's bullshit. Now, reportedly there was some potential a
- 15:16Speaker 1: drug inducedness to their actions on why they did it.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I had this thought because I'm just like, something isn't
- 15:23Speaker 2: adding up here. Really.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I did read an article about someone saying and reporting
- 15:28Speaker 1: that there was PCP involved, but I have no idea
- 15:33Speaker 1: if that's.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Accurate or not.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Okay, so huh yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So you can do a deep dive into this case,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but I'm telling you now, majority of the information you
- 15:46Speaker 1: find is going to be circumstantial. It's going to be hearsay.
- 15:51Speaker 1: That's which is so unfortunate because I could probably do
- 15:53Speaker 1: ten episodes on this talking about all that hearsay. Right,
- 15:57Speaker 1: But what I'm focusing on in this episode are the
- 16:00Speaker 1: facts that we know, And one of the biggest facts
- 16:03Speaker 1: that we know is the brutality of what these two
- 16:06Speaker 1: went through. Like Chris was not only sodomized anally, but
- 16:12Speaker 1: or alone, not only by the individuals but with objects.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And he was taken out of the house much sooner
- 16:20Speaker 1: than Shannon was, so she endured the same thing over
- 16:25Speaker 1: a great amount of time.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Oh gosh, Okay.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but let's move on. So once Chris was now killed,
- 16:32Speaker 1: his body was then wrapped in a blanket on these
- 16:34Speaker 1: train tracks, and his killers poured gasoline over his remains
- 16:38Speaker 1: and set him on fire before leaving him to burn
- 16:41Speaker 1: near the tracks, abandoning him to be discovered later on.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Holy shit, hey, just like no remorse whatsoever. I mean,
- 16:49Speaker 2: it makes sense that they wouldn't. They're obviously like monsters.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Well, it's funny, you say, the whole no remorse thing,
- 16:55Speaker 1: because there's something I'll talk about later on. There was
- 16:59Speaker 1: a journal that was found in an entry in this
- 17:01Speaker 1: journal about this night. Okay, yeah, anyways, I digress.
- 17:07Speaker 3: We'll talk about that near the end. Now.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Later authorities did manage to actually find a dog leash
- 17:13Speaker 1: discarded on the hillside leading up to these railroad tracks.
- 17:16Speaker 1: They believe this dog leash was actually used to force
- 17:20Speaker 1: Chris to walk the path to his death, so basically
- 17:24Speaker 1: like tethering him and if you're refused or is too slow,
- 17:26Speaker 1: he was yanked and pulled along as a.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Will Oh okay, this just keeps. This is just keeps.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It's going to keep getting worse and worse very much. So, yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 2: that is just so degrading too, right, Like not that
- 17:39Speaker 2: everything he endured isn't, but like being pulled to like
- 17:44Speaker 2: your deathbed, like but with a dog leash, you know.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's something like damn near straight out of
- 17:51Speaker 1: a concentration camp, honestly kind of.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Now, while Chris endured abuse and of course in execution,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Shannon was subject to a much longer ordeal. Chris was
- 18:05Speaker 1: I don't want to say, put out of his misery.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He was killed. He was killed within a few hours.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Shannon had to endure much much more time than Chris did.
- 18:18Speaker 1: She was held captive in the north bedroom of the
- 18:22Speaker 1: home for her most of her time in the home,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and there she would wait under the watch of the
- 18:28Speaker 1: female perpetrator while the four males were out actually murdering
- 18:32Speaker 1: Chris and Coltsure. So, as far as I'm aware, they
- 18:36Speaker 1: mostly focused on Chris initially, and once they came back
- 18:41Speaker 1: from killing him, that's when the focus turned onto Shannon.
- 18:46Speaker 2: And you have to wonder if like she knew that
- 18:49Speaker 2: they she probably, I mean, I'm sure she probably did.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Like well, she would have at least have heard the
- 18:54Speaker 1: abuse in the room next yeah, like yeah, yeah. Now,
- 18:58Speaker 1: once the four men did return, sole focus was now
- 19:02Speaker 1: on her, and the assailants brutally beat and repeatedly raped
- 19:05Speaker 1: her over and over again. And I want to just
- 19:09Speaker 1: highlight again I'm not describing it very much, but when
- 19:12Speaker 1: I say brutally beat and brutally raped, I mean brutal.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Her abuse was much more than simple rape. It went
- 19:22Speaker 1: beyond force some brutality. Basically, the assailants decided they needed
- 19:26Speaker 1: to eventually after this attack and prolonged rape. They needed
- 19:31Speaker 1: to rid Shannon of any of their DNA evidence that
- 19:35Speaker 1: they had left behind honor in her.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Gosh, these guys are disgusting pieces of shit. Oh yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I mean the female too. She's not doing anything about
- 19:45Speaker 2: it either. I don't know if she was involved in
- 19:47Speaker 2: like the rape or the assaults or whatever, but still.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Yeah, So they searched the house and they found bleach.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Okay.
- 19:58Speaker 1: They began pouring the bleach all over Shannon. Now this
- 20:02Speaker 1: includes her bleeding orifices in which she was brutally raped,
- 20:08Speaker 1: and this also includes down her throat as well. From there,
- 20:13Speaker 1: they scrubbed the bleach vigorously all over her to try
- 20:19Speaker 1: and ensure that this bleach did its job, killing any
- 20:23Speaker 1: DNA and eracing the trail.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, just like idiots though, Like idiots.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's like, it's it's unfathomable how you can
- 20:32Speaker 1: actually do that to a person.
- 20:33Speaker 3: It's fucked up.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah like that. I yeah, like you would have. You
- 20:39Speaker 2: would just have to be on something.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I agree, like to sit here and do that to
- 20:45Speaker 3: a human.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Like, I'm just gonna say the same thing over and
- 20:49Speaker 1: over because I don't know how to process the feelings
- 20:51Speaker 1: with this, if I'm being honest, like I'm sitting here like, yeah,
- 20:55Speaker 1: it's brutal, and how could you do that?
- 20:58Speaker 3: Because I literally do not know.
- 21:01Speaker 2: And it almost seems worse too when there's more than say,
- 21:05Speaker 2: like one attack or involved, because then it almost just
- 21:08Speaker 2: makes you, like feel even worse about humanity because you'd think,
- 21:13Speaker 2: out of one of those four people or five people,
- 21:15Speaker 2: I guess that one of them would stop this shit.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Well you would think.
- 21:19Speaker 1: But then I do want to play devil's advocate in this,
- 21:22Speaker 1: not that I agree anything with what they were doing.
- 21:25Speaker 3: I want to fucking put that out there.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But there is that herd mentality, the mob mentality.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I mean, we're.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Canucks fans, hockey, Vancouver Canucks fans, and we know all
- 21:38Speaker 1: too well about the Vancouver Canucks riot that happened.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Was it the twenty eleven I think Stanley Cup?
- 21:45Speaker 1: I think so when in Game seven we lost the
- 21:47Speaker 1: Stanley Cup and Vancouver.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Rioted, I just raged.
- 21:53Speaker 1: You saw good people doing absolutely ridiculous stuff. And I
- 22:00Speaker 1: mean maybe that maybe five is of course a lot
- 22:02Speaker 1: less than a mob, but if you have drugs involved,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I hear that would have been something that's going on
- 22:10Speaker 1: in their head that same mentality.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I like, sit here and it's hard to fathom it
- 22:14Speaker 2: or I would never do that. But it's so hard
- 22:16Speaker 2: to say that when you know you're not in the situation.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I guess, but I, well, I'm very so very much
- 22:24Speaker 2: to think I would not.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Well, I'm pretty sure both you and I and people listening,
- 22:28Speaker 1: we're not going to be someone who's like, oh, yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm a group of five and I'm going to just
- 22:32Speaker 1: join in and do these horrific things to a person. No,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but I'm saying these these five individuals are clearly they're
- 22:38Speaker 1: they're bad apples from the get go, and now you
- 22:41Speaker 1: mix drugs into it, and all it takes is one
- 22:43Speaker 1: of them to step over that line and the others
- 22:45Speaker 1: like sounds like fun.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I like saved a spider the other day from a
- 22:50Speaker 2: toilet because it was in the bowl, and I'm like,
- 22:54Speaker 2: I felt so bad for trying to get out, so
- 22:57Speaker 2: I like put some toilet paper in there for it
- 22:58Speaker 2: to like get out and put it on the floor
- 23:00Speaker 2: like I was out somewhere. I wasn't like at home
- 23:02Speaker 2: or whatever, But even at home I probably still would
- 23:04Speaker 2: have put it outside. So I'm pretty sure, I probably
- 23:07Speaker 2: wouldn't be involved in something like this.
- 23:09Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, anyways, we digress. We kind of got
- 23:12Speaker 1: off track on this one here. Now Shannon was after
- 23:16Speaker 1: being rubbed down and all this sort of stuff. She's
- 23:18Speaker 1: now mostly nude other than a tank top and a sweater.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Dang.
- 23:22Speaker 1: She was clearly bound and tied up during this event
- 23:26Speaker 1: and during her assault. But now at this point her
- 23:29Speaker 1: restraints were changed. They tied her hands and feet together
- 23:34Speaker 1: to each other, so now she's tied up in a
- 23:36Speaker 1: hogtide fashion.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Oh geez.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And they used like curtains and strips of bedding and
- 23:40Speaker 1: cloth like to bind her up.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 23:43Speaker 1: From there, they wrapped her face tightly in a small
- 23:46Speaker 1: plastic trash bag and stuffed her inside several other large
- 23:51Speaker 1: trash bags. Shannon was bound, beaten, and barely able to
- 23:55Speaker 1: move at this point, and they literally threw her away
- 24:00Speaker 1: in the trash inside the home of the kitchen and
- 24:03Speaker 1: covered her up with sheets.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So she like suffocated.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Then hey, well she's still alive at this point.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Oh man.
- 24:12Speaker 1: But she laid there in her new grade as she
- 24:16Speaker 1: slowly suffocated. And wow, it's estimated that it took ten
- 24:21Speaker 1: to thirteen minutes for her to die from asphyxiation.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Oh man, I can hardly comprehend this, Like, this is
- 24:29Speaker 2: just this is just mortifying to me. Holy shit.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Okay, Now, when Shannon and Chris failed to show up
- 24:38Speaker 1: at their party, you know, the one for their their
- 24:40Speaker 1: friends birth, Yeah, their friends began to be a little
- 24:44Speaker 1: bit concerned and started calling and texting them, but they
- 24:47Speaker 1: received no response. Later that evening, at around eleven PM,
- 24:52Speaker 1: two of Chris's friends went to the apartment where the
- 24:55Speaker 1: couple had been last seen to check on them, and
- 24:58Speaker 1: there they found Chris's truck in the parking lot, but
- 25:00Speaker 1: Shannon's SUV nowhere to be found. At around twelve thirty
- 25:04Speaker 1: am on January seventh, a Waste Connections driver who was
- 25:08Speaker 1: working near Chipman Street noticed that the house at two
- 25:11Speaker 1: three one six Chipman Street was lit up and unusually
- 25:16Speaker 1: active for that hour of night. He saw a four
- 25:18Speaker 1: runner a Toyota four Runner, parked outside, sitting in the
- 25:22Speaker 1: house's porch lights. He also later observed the very same
- 25:25Speaker 1: vehicle slowly driving past him. The car lingered for about
- 25:30Speaker 1: twenty seconds, as if the occupants were checking him out.
- 25:34Speaker 1: The man reported seeing four black men inside the vehicle.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Another witness who lived a block away from two three
- 25:41Speaker 1: to six to one Chipman Street, reported hearing three distinct
- 25:44Speaker 1: pops coming from the direction of the train tracks at
- 25:47Speaker 1: about a one forty five PM and pops, of course, yeah,
- 25:52Speaker 1: were certain to be gunshots.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And like, as this is happening, like the friends are
- 25:56Speaker 2: looking for them.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Hey, yeah, it would be on.
- 26:00Speaker 1: The same day as the witness reports came in. On
- 26:03Speaker 1: January seventh, at twelve twenty pm, Chris's body was found
- 26:09Speaker 1: near a set of railroad tracks by a Northfolk South
- 26:12Speaker 1: Railroad employee. His body, as we known, has been set
- 26:16Speaker 1: on fire, which destroyed any crucial DNA evidence, So, for example,
- 26:21Speaker 1: investigators were able to find presence of seamen inside Chris. However,
- 26:25Speaker 1: the DNA in these samples was destroyed by the fire.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Oh geez okay.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Before Chris had been found and identified, friends and family
- 26:35Speaker 1: were getting extremely worried. Shannon had failed to respond to
- 26:39Speaker 1: calls for her mother and friends alike, and she now
- 26:41Speaker 1: didn't show up for work. The couple's family and friends
- 26:45Speaker 1: started searching for them, banding together to begin checking local hospitals,
- 26:49Speaker 1: fi missing persons reports, and doing whatever they could with
- 26:53Speaker 1: assistance from Shannon's phone provider, they learned her phone had
- 26:57Speaker 1: last pinged near Cherry Street. To the families and friends
- 27:02Speaker 1: searched the Cherry Street area, and between one thirty am
- 27:06Speaker 1: and two am on January eighth, Shannon's abandoned Toyota foy
- 27:10Speaker 1: Runner was discovered.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Was it discovered in the driveway? No, okay, they had
- 27:18Speaker 2: moved it.
- 27:18Speaker 3: It was at this point abandoned.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Now, the condition of her vehicle was immediately suspicious. It
- 27:26Speaker 1: was left nowhere near in the condition that Shannon liked
- 27:29Speaker 1: to keep her vehicle. For starters, Several personal items were
- 27:32Speaker 1: missing from Shannon's vehicle, including a Teddy Bear, photographs she
- 27:35Speaker 1: kept in there, her phone charger in an iPod. The
- 27:39Speaker 1: front seat was sorry, the front seats were pushed back
- 27:43Speaker 1: in a way that Shannon wouldn't even be able to
- 27:45Speaker 1: reach the pedals if she was sitting.
- 27:47Speaker 3: In the driver's seat.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Oh, okay, And.
- 27:49Speaker 1: The floorboard was covered in mud, which is very inconsistent
- 27:53Speaker 1: with how Shannon maintained her clean vehicle. Now, there were
- 27:57Speaker 1: some stickers that Shannon had on the outside of the
- 27:59Speaker 1: windows as well, they had been removed, and inside the vehicle,
- 28:03Speaker 1: investigators found a pack of new Port cigarettes. Neither Shannon
- 28:07Speaker 1: or Chris were smokers. A thorough search of the vehicle
- 28:12Speaker 1: gave us gave investigators all this information, but the break
- 28:16Speaker 1: they needed in this case also came from searching the
- 28:19Speaker 1: vehicle fingerprints.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Okay, I was like, there's got to be something left
- 28:23Speaker 2: in there, because it doesn't really seem like they did
- 28:25Speaker 2: much but that vehicle.
- 28:26Speaker 3: They were not very careful with this vehicle whatsoever. And
- 28:29Speaker 3: there were fingerprints inside.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Okay, well, this is good, this is good.
- 28:33Speaker 1: So they ran these prints to the database and were
- 28:35Speaker 1: able to get a positive match on an individual by
- 28:38Speaker 1: the name of Lamarquius Davidson, who lived at two three
- 28:42Speaker 1: one six Chipman Street, just two blocks from where Shannon's
- 28:45Speaker 1: car was found. You know, if you're going to abandon
- 28:47Speaker 1: the vehicle, maybe you want to drive it farther than
- 28:49Speaker 1: two blocks from where you live.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, I was like, you mean, douche canoe, because
- 28:53Speaker 2: this guy is just.
- 28:54Speaker 1: The worst of the worst right now. On January ninth,
- 28:58Speaker 1: when police searched too three to one six Chipman Street,
- 29:01Speaker 1: the house was empty, but inside they made a horrifying
- 29:05Speaker 1: discovery in the kitchen, Shannon's body stashed inside trash can gosh.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Her body was wrapped in five large garbage bags which
- 29:16Speaker 1: bore Davidson's fingerprints that matched in the vehicle.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Now.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Davidson's sperm was also found using a rape kit on Shannon.
- 29:24Speaker 1: It also revealed DNA of another that of Litsalvis Colbin's.
- 29:30Speaker 1: The search of the house revealed several of Shannon and
- 29:32Speaker 1: Chris's personal items, including Shannon's purse, her shoes, her camera,
- 29:37Speaker 1: photographs which had been ripped and burned, and Chris's baseball
- 29:40Speaker 1: cap and driver's license. These items, as well as belongings
- 29:43Speaker 1: from Shannon's suv, were all stuffed inside trash bags.
- 29:48Speaker 2: This case is just disturbing the shit out of me.
- 29:52Speaker 1: The biggest thing for me is the lack of care
- 29:57Speaker 1: on anything. Don't care to plan, they don't care for
- 30:04Speaker 1: the victims, they don't care to cover tracks, They don't
- 30:09Speaker 1: they just don't fucking care.
- 30:14Speaker 2: So did they What did they think that they just
- 30:16Speaker 2: wouldn't get caught?
- 30:17Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Huh.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Your guess is as good as mine.
- 30:22Speaker 2: It's just like so disturbing that you can literally just
- 30:25Speaker 2: be like at your vehicle about to like go for
- 30:28Speaker 2: dinner or whatever and then go to like a friend's
- 30:30Speaker 2: party and this happens. Yeah, it's just it's just beyond
- 30:35Speaker 2: terrifying to me.
- 30:36Speaker 3: And now you know, I always carry a knife on me.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but still, like four dudes, it would be hard,
- 30:44Speaker 2: It would be hard to like, especially like I'm assuming
- 30:47Speaker 2: they're bigger dudes. I don't know, but like, it would
- 30:49Speaker 2: be hard to defend yourself against four people.
- 30:53Speaker 3: You're right, You're right, but at least you can go
- 30:55Speaker 3: down with a fight, you know what I mean.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Now, their key piece of evidence linking evidence that was
- 31:02Speaker 1: found was something that was linking the death of Chris
- 31:05Speaker 1: to that of Shannon's. This was the discovery of shell
- 31:09Speaker 1: casings at the house that matched the bullets used in
- 31:12Speaker 1: Chris's murder.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, so they like picked them up from
- 31:16Speaker 2: the where they murdered him and brought them home. Maybe
- 31:21Speaker 2: are there different I'm.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Not sure if they were the same ones the bullet
- 31:26Speaker 1: or it was just like the same brand that matched. Okay,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I see, yeah, but it was the same shell casings
- 31:32Speaker 1: to match the bullet. I'm just not sure if it
- 31:34Speaker 1: was like the shellcasing for the bullet. You know, right now,
- 31:39Speaker 1: police soon launched a man hunt looking for the individuals
- 31:42Speaker 1: who resided at this address, and after tracking phone calls
- 31:46Speaker 1: between Davidson and a man by the name of Eric Boyd,
- 31:49Speaker 1: investigators questioned Boyd, who eventually directed them to a vacant
- 31:52Speaker 1: house nearby. On January eleventh, Davidson was arrested. Police found
- 31:59Speaker 1: Chris's size nine and a half Nike shoe sorry Nike
- 32:05Speaker 1: shocks shoes, and a twenty two caliber revolver at the
- 32:10Speaker 1: residence during the arrest as well. So no matter where
- 32:14Speaker 1: they're going, they're just there's evidence trailing behind.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, no shit now.
- 32:20Speaker 1: During questioning, Davidson gave several conflicting accounts of what happened. Initially,
- 32:24Speaker 1: he claimed that he had left the house on Friday
- 32:26Speaker 1: and wasn't aware of the crimes. Later, he admitted that
- 32:30Speaker 1: Cobins and another man named George Thomas arrived at the
- 32:33Speaker 1: house at around ten pm on Friday or Saturday, he
- 32:36Speaker 1: wasn't sure, saying that they had carjacked a couple. Davidson
- 32:40Speaker 1: claimed that he saw the victims tied up in the
- 32:42Speaker 1: back seat, but he didn't want any involvement and left
- 32:45Speaker 1: the left to goo smoke some weed wasn't.
- 32:48Speaker 2: His DNA found yes in yes, yes, okay, okay.
- 32:54Speaker 1: He said that when he returned twenty minutes later, Shannon
- 32:56Speaker 1: told him that she didn't want to die. David's claimed
- 33:01Speaker 1: that he then used Shannon's vehicle to sell some drugs
- 33:04Speaker 1: and wiped it down afterwards, insisting he hadn't raped Shannon
- 33:08Speaker 1: or gone beyond the living room.
- 33:11Speaker 3: To involve himself.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Did he like literally think that the bleach or whatever
- 33:16Speaker 2: the hell they did would have like gotten rid of everything?
- 33:21Speaker 2: I guess, Oh, man.
- 33:25Speaker 1: See now this is why I'm not going down a
- 33:27Speaker 1: large rabbit hole and much of the information on what
- 33:29Speaker 1: they say happened, because it's total bogus, all of it.
- 33:34Speaker 1: It's a I'm not involved, they did it. I did
- 33:37Speaker 1: something else, And it's just like a blatant lie, like
- 33:43Speaker 1: absolute blatant, Like.
- 33:44Speaker 2: You're just a complete idiot, Like shut the fuck up.
- 33:47Speaker 2: No one even wants to hear your voice.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I Like this is where I don't think I could,
- 33:52Speaker 2: like being an investigator seems like a cool job, but
- 33:55Speaker 2: this I just think that I would just be raging,
- 33:58Speaker 2: Like I don't know how you would interrogate someone without
- 34:02Speaker 2: just like wanting to just like fuck them up at
- 34:05Speaker 2: the same time for what they've done.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I know, I agree wholeheartedly, trust me now. On January eleventh,
- 34:12Speaker 1: three individuals Littalvis Cobyan's, George Thomas, and Vanessa Coleman were
- 34:18Speaker 1: arrested in Lebanon, Kentucky for relations of the murder. One
- 34:24Speaker 1: of the police officers found a computer on them that
- 34:26Speaker 1: was being used to look up and follow the news
- 34:29Speaker 1: on the murder as it was unfolding. They also found
- 34:33Speaker 1: a purse containing several of Shannon's belongings, including her cosmetic
- 34:36Speaker 1: bag and change purse, as well as her overnight bag.
- 34:41Speaker 3: And I'm not going to go into any further.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Events that any of these people talk about because it's
- 34:47Speaker 1: just clearly not worth our fucking time. They all pointed
- 34:50Speaker 1: fingers at one another, they were not involved, blah blah
- 34:53Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But five individuals were arrested and charged
- 34:57Speaker 1: within days, and they all fail criminal trials. Good so.
- 35:04Speaker 1: On April sixteenth, two thousand and eight, Eric Boyd was
- 35:07Speaker 1: the first among the suspects to be tried, and notably,
- 35:10Speaker 1: he was the only one not to be charged with murder.
- 35:15Speaker 1: He received a sentence of up to eighteen years in
- 35:17Speaker 1: federal prison and is currently serving his time at the
- 35:21Speaker 1: Federal Correction Institute in Yazoo City, a low security facility
- 35:24Speaker 1: located in Mississippi, Mississippi.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I wonder why they would have gone about not charging
- 35:29Speaker 2: him with Marger.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Well, it's going to be it's going to be what.
- 35:32Speaker 2: The trigger or whatever kind of thing.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be what evidence points towards what right.
- 35:38Speaker 3: So, I mean, maybe.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It's potential maybe he sat in the vehicle and he
- 35:42Speaker 1: didn't even go out. I don't know much of this
- 35:46Speaker 1: is I couldn't find specifics on why certain things were
- 35:50Speaker 1: charged the way they were.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I mean, I get that, but I also I feel
- 35:54Speaker 2: it's like you also kind of think they should all
- 35:57Speaker 2: have the same because they were all very much part
- 36:00Speaker 2: of it. But I'm sure some did more than others.
- 36:02Speaker 3: But I'm sure some did. Yeah. Now.
- 36:05Speaker 1: In August twenty fifth, two thousand and nine, la Talvis
- 36:08Speaker 1: Cobins was found guilty for his role in the murder
- 36:10Speaker 1: of Shannon and Chris. Cobin's actually faced a potential death
- 36:15Speaker 1: sentence as he was convicted of first degree felony murder
- 36:18Speaker 1: in Shannon's case. Although he was found guilty of facilitating
- 36:21Speaker 1: Chris's murder. He was acquitted of the charges related to
- 36:24Speaker 1: Chris's rape the following day. In August twenty six, Cobens
- 36:29Speaker 1: was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Lamarcius Davidsons trial I'm concluded on October twenty eight, two
- 36:38Speaker 1: thousand and nine, when he was found guilty of all
- 36:40Speaker 1: charges against him. The jury unanimously decided that Davidson should
- 36:45Speaker 1: be sentenced to death for four capital offenses, which included
- 36:49Speaker 1: two counts of first degree felony murder and two counts
- 36:52Speaker 1: of premeditated first degree murder for the deaths of Shannon
- 36:55Speaker 1: and Chris. In June twenty ten, Davidson was additionally sentenced
- 36:59Speaker 1: to eighty years for other related crimes. These sentences were
- 37:02Speaker 1: ordered to be served consecutively to his death penalty sentence.
- 37:07Speaker 2: What a winner, hey now.
- 37:09Speaker 1: During the sentencing, Judge bug MARTERR. I believe is how
- 37:13Speaker 1: you say them their name described the crimes as quote
- 37:16Speaker 1: one of the most incredibly atrocious, cruel and humane cases
- 37:21Speaker 1: ever seen. In his courtroom. On December eighth, two thousand
- 37:25Speaker 1: and nine, George Thomas was convicted on multiple accounts. The
- 37:28Speaker 1: jury sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility
- 37:31Speaker 1: of parole for each of the four capital convictions. Vanessa
- 37:35Speaker 1: Coleman was the last of the defendants to go to trial.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Although she was granted immunity by federal authorities for her
- 37:41Speaker 1: testimony in the federal case surrounding the carjacking, the state
- 37:44Speaker 1: courts ruled that her immunity did not extend to the
- 37:47Speaker 1: state level charges of murder and rape, so on May thirteenth,
- 37:52Speaker 1: twenty ten, Coleman was acquitted a first degree murder, but
- 37:55Speaker 1: was found guilty of lesser charges. She was sentenced to
- 37:58Speaker 1: fifty three years in prison on July thirtieth, twenty ten.
- 38:01Speaker 1: During her sentencing, Shannon's father expressed his pain in the courtroom,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and he said this quote for me personally, you took
- 38:12Speaker 1: my baby. You took my opportunity to say yes to
- 38:15Speaker 1: a young man one day. You took away my dance
- 38:19Speaker 1: at her wedding, took away my chance to hold her child,
- 38:24Speaker 1: my grandbaby.
- 38:27Speaker 2: I just got like goosebumps a couple times through that,
- 38:32Speaker 2: like holy shit, you took away my opportunity.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yeap.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Not only not only is he focusing on his daughter,
- 38:40Speaker 1: but yeah, you took away my opportunity to say.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yes yeah to a young man one day.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Oh my, clearly Chris expecting Chris to ask his premistion.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Oh god, this is just.
- 38:53Speaker 3: So fuck now.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I do want to mention one last piece of evidence
- 38:58Speaker 1: that was found during the investigation. The journal that I
- 39:00Speaker 1: talked about right right now. This was also recovered after
- 39:04Speaker 1: the arrest of Thomas, sorry Thomas, Cobyn's and Coleman. And
- 39:08Speaker 1: an entry from the journal was on January ninth and
- 39:11Speaker 1: it read this quote, last night was one of a kind.
- 39:15Speaker 1: We stayed with a crackhead. That is cool as hell.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It snowed a little bit, but it's already melted. Let's
- 39:22Speaker 1: talk about adventures. I had one hell of an adventure
- 39:26Speaker 1: since I've been in the Big TN. It's a crazy
- 39:29Speaker 1: world these days, but I love the fun adventures and
- 39:32Speaker 1: lessons that I've learned. It's going to be a long,
- 39:35Speaker 1: interesting year.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Seriously. Yes, this is the day after too, Hey this
- 39:45Speaker 2: is on the ninth or yeah, so even it's a
- 39:48Speaker 2: couple of days. Yeah, and thinks this is a fun adventure,
- 39:53Speaker 2: like a life experience kind of thing. Yeah, wow, okay.
- 39:57Speaker 1: A forensic document examiner verified that the handwriting was a
- 40:01Speaker 1: positive match to Coleman's handwriting. Now, that is the end
- 40:08Speaker 1: of the case. But it's not the end of the
- 40:09Speaker 1: case because lastly, there was some controversy that came up
- 40:13Speaker 1: in twenty eleven surrounding this whole thing. The presiding judge
- 40:17Speaker 1: at the time, who overseen all of their trials, had
- 40:21Speaker 1: stepped down to a reported opioid addiction, and long story short,
- 40:26Speaker 1: some retrials were granted because the judge had an addiction
- 40:30Speaker 1: problem and could have potentially impacted the trials.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, but also like so, like, I mean, these
- 40:40Speaker 2: people deserved what they got. Yeah, Like I hope that
- 40:43Speaker 2: the retrials get to make them get worse.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Well.
- 40:46Speaker 1: In May of twenty thirteen, George Thomas was retried and
- 40:49Speaker 1: convicted on thirty eight charges related to the kidnapping, rape,
- 40:52Speaker 1: and murders of Shannon and Chris. On June fourth, he
- 40:55Speaker 1: was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus twenty five years.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Thomas remains in cars rated serving life without the possibility
- 41:02Speaker 1: of parole. On November twentieth, twenty twelve, Vanessa Coleman was
- 41:06Speaker 1: retried and found guilty of a thirteen out of seventeen
- 41:09Speaker 1: counts related to the kidnapping, rape, and murder of.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Shannon and Chris.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Though she was acquitted of charges connected to Chris Newman's murders,
- 41:16Speaker 1: her sentence was reduced to thirty five years in prison,
- 41:19Speaker 1: down from the original fifty three bullshit. In twenty nineteen,
- 41:24Speaker 1: Eric Boyd, previously convicted of being an accessory, face new charges.
- 41:30Speaker 1: His trial began with jury selection in August fifth, and
- 41:32Speaker 1: by August thirteenth, the jury found him guilty on all charges,
- 41:36Speaker 1: including felony murder, premeditated murder, and aggravated kidnapping. Boyd was
- 41:41Speaker 1: sentenced to two life terms and his direct for his
- 41:44Speaker 1: direct involvement in the horrific crimes against Shannon Christiansen and
- 41:48Speaker 1: Chris Newman.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Was he the one that was had gotten eighteen years
- 41:53Speaker 2: or something prior to.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I think me double check. I get a little bit
- 41:57Speaker 1: confused with which one's witch here.
- 42:00Speaker 2: That's fair, that's fair. There was one that had gotten
- 42:03Speaker 2: substantially less because it kind of seemed like he wasn't
- 42:06Speaker 2: all that or something.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Yes, that was him. He was sentenced up to eighteen years. Initially,
- 42:12Speaker 1: he was the only one who did not get tried
- 42:15Speaker 1: from murder out of the.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Five, okay, but now he has.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Yes, including felony murder and premeditated murder.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:23Speaker 1: So and that's the case of Shannon Christian and Chris Newman.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It's yeah, it's a wild one.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that is just just a bag of shit.
- 42:35Speaker 3: Yeah you can say that again.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I don't know. Sometimes cases just like have you really
- 42:42Speaker 2: questioning humanity? And this one does.
- 42:45Speaker 1: And like I said, I could do ten episodes on
- 42:48Speaker 1: this case just with the he said she said bullshit. Yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 1: it's funny because that's an actual song. But anyway, I digress,
- 42:57Speaker 1: but it and it's just like reading through that, I'm like,
- 43:00Speaker 1: are you fucking kidding me?
- 43:02Speaker 3: Like what's the point of that?
- 43:03Speaker 1: Like, oh, my semen was literally found in this person's orifice,
- 43:09Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, I didn't even do anything.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I just wasn't in.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I went and smoked weed because I didn't want to
- 43:14Speaker 1: be a part of it.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Was it?
- 43:16Speaker 2: What me?
- 43:16Speaker 3: Fuck?
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah that song wasn't me, shaggy yeah wow.
- 43:25Speaker 3: But they caught me with the murder. Wasn't me?
- 43:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 43:28Speaker 3: Fuck?
- 43:29Speaker 2: Just like a bunch of idiots, a bunch of like
- 43:32Speaker 2: nasty motherfucker fuckers like it just that you can't even
- 43:36Speaker 2: describe these people.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Well, I think like, if you're a longtime listener, you know,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I like to play Devil's advocate and I already kind
- 43:42Speaker 1: of talked about that with the mob mentality earlier, the
- 43:44Speaker 1: Devil's advocacy thing on that. But I, for the life
- 43:48Speaker 1: of me, cannot put myself into their mindset. It makes
- 43:54Speaker 1: zero sense. Nothing that they did made any sense, because
- 43:59Speaker 1: there's there's time where I'm like, Okay, you know what,
- 44:01Speaker 1: this guy did this horrific thing. It's it's sexually driven
- 44:06Speaker 1: and you know what, maybe he's a predator, maybe he's
- 44:08Speaker 1: a pedophile, and you know what, he's born and had
- 44:12Speaker 1: these things when he was younger, and it correlates through
- 44:14Speaker 1: his life and it put him there. We can see
- 44:17Speaker 1: these steps through someone's life and it like not that
- 44:20Speaker 1: it's okay to do these things, but we see why.
- 44:25Speaker 1: There is no we see why.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing, and no we're remorse either Nope, not a
- 44:31Speaker 2: single fuck given. So that doesn't make any sense either.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Nope.
- 44:35Speaker 2: It just makes you think that they're complete monsters and
- 44:37Speaker 2: they've done bad shit prior to or you know, we're
- 44:41Speaker 2: going to do more or something.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Oh, they probably would have done more if they got
- 44:44Speaker 3: away with that. I can only imagine what would have
- 44:46Speaker 3: been next for them.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and you said that they might have been
- 44:50Speaker 2: on some sort of drug, right, Yeah, I think I
- 44:52Speaker 2: don't have no idea what life the effects of that
- 44:54Speaker 2: drug would do to a person.
- 44:56Speaker 1: No, I think it's a PCP, which if i'm if
- 44:59Speaker 1: I'm not mistake, I think it's a hallucinogenic PCP effects.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Let see what Google has to say, because I don't
- 45:06Speaker 1: know my drugs. PCP may cause hallucinations, distorted perception of sound,
- 45:11Speaker 1: and violent behavior.
- 45:13Speaker 2: So I'm just kind of thinking like they're probably almost
- 45:17Speaker 2: having an outer body experience of sorts.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 45:21Speaker 2: But then you think later on, I don't know, later
- 45:24Speaker 2: on you think you realize what the fuck did I
- 45:28Speaker 2: just do?
- 45:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 45:29Speaker 2: What did I do? Yeah?
- 45:30Speaker 1: Like coming down, you're like, oh my god, what the
- 45:32Speaker 1: fuck happened? Like I killed someone? But no, instead they're
- 45:34Speaker 1: writing in a journal being like what an adventure.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah, this year is going to be amazing because it
- 45:39Speaker 2: started so great. Oh gosh.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Yeah, so fuck these douche canoes. I can say that
- 45:45Speaker 3: right now.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I honestly can't say I remember one of their names.
- 45:48Speaker 2: In my head, I was just like, Okay, Douice Canoe one, two, three,
- 45:51Speaker 2: four or five.
- 45:52Speaker 1: That's pretty much how they should be remembered if I'm
- 45:55Speaker 1: being honest.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So hopefully you guys got through that one. Like I said,
- 46:00Speaker 1: if you guys want to do a deep dive on this,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I don't. There's times where I'm like, yeah, I recommend
- 46:04Speaker 1: doing a deep dive because it is worth it. This
- 46:07Speaker 1: one's not worth it. It's just it's ridiculous.
- 46:10Speaker 3: It's a joke.
- 46:11Speaker 1: What these people say, what they claim happened, their defense,
- 46:16Speaker 1: It wasn't me, all of it. It's a fucking joke.
- 46:19Speaker 1: So it's not worth a deep dive. Fuck these people.
- 46:23Speaker 2: No, I don't think it would be either. No.
- 46:26Speaker 3: So yeah, So I'm a little angry over this case.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I know this case is very maddening. I'm not gonna lie.
- 46:33Speaker 1: But if you guys want to check out our socials,
- 46:35Speaker 1: we're gonna stop talking about this one because we're just
- 46:37Speaker 1: gonna move on at this point. If you want to
- 46:38Speaker 1: check our socials all that stuff, it's in the description
- 46:40Speaker 1: of this podcast. If you want to give us a review,

- 47:01Speaker 2: The Halloween. The Halloween serves the title the Halloween.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Well well Halloween Week, right.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I was going through our our itinerary for this month,
- 47:12Speaker 1: and uh yeah, I finished selecting all the cases with
- 47:15Speaker 1: with your approval and some of the stuff we talked about,
- 47:17Speaker 1: we we have quite the list.
- 47:21Speaker 2: A month it's gonna be it's gonna be a month
- 47:23Speaker 2: and a half.
- 47:24Speaker 3: It's gonna be wild.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:26Speaker 1: And I know we've already had a couple of messages recently,
- 47:28Speaker 1: and we had someone talking about it on Patreon today
- 47:31Speaker 1: or I guess when you're listening to this now, it was yesterday,
- 47:33Speaker 1: But I digress. Yes, Three Urban Legends is back again
- 47:40Speaker 1: this year as well. Yeah, we're gonna try keep going
- 47:44Speaker 1: as long as we can, as long as I can
- 47:46Speaker 1: find Urban Legends that are not the same ten ones
- 47:49Speaker 1: repeated over and over.
- 47:51Speaker 2: But honestly, if you did do ones from like the
- 47:53Speaker 2: first Halloween week, I probably wouldn't remember them.
- 47:56Speaker 3: You probably would you think I think you would.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Okay, maybe a come back to me.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Who knows, I think you would. Anyways, we uh we
