Speaker 2: Hill of KRT is here. We are going to introduce
• 2:18
Speaker 2: you to another couple of candidate. Jared Page will join us.
• 2:20
Speaker 2: He's running for a seat on the Kanawha County Commission
• 2:22
Speaker 2: and the gentleman across from me is running to keep
• 2:25
Speaker 2: his seat as a Canawha County Magistrate. He is Harry Carpenter. Harry,
• 2:28
Speaker 2: welcome to the show, Thanks for being here. Good morning Dave.
• 2:32
Speaker 2: You are appointed to the seat and now you have
• 2:35
Speaker 2: to run to keep it. Talk about your appointment to
• 2:37
Speaker 2: magistrate court and how it's worked out for.
• 2:38
Speaker 5: You, and well it's worked out quite well. I mean,
• 2:41
Speaker 5: there really weren't any surprises when you go in. You
• 2:48
Speaker 5: go in, feet on the ground, time to go to work.
• 2:52
Speaker 5: And I'll tell you the the only I don't want
• 2:57
Speaker 5: to use words surprise, but the thing that opened my
• 3:00
Speaker 5: eyes and has opened my eyes this past year has
• 3:05
Speaker 5: been the magistrate assistants. I tell you those folks over there.
• 3:11
Speaker 5: They keep that court going. And my assistant, Curry reveal
• 3:16
Speaker 5: she had from day one. She just points and shoots
• 3:20
Speaker 5: and there we went.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: What exactly does a magistrate's assistant do? Explain that everything?
• 3:26
Speaker 5: Every everything, They they set the hearings, they mail the notices,
• 3:33
Speaker 5: they keep the dock at going there with you on
• 3:36
Speaker 5: the bench, and as you make your rulings, you know,
• 3:40
Speaker 5: they enter into the database. And they're really the unsung heroes,
• 3:47
Speaker 5: I'm telling you. And you know I spent many, many
• 3:50
Speaker 5: many years in that building with the Sheriff's office, and
• 3:54
Speaker 5: it's just one of those positions you took for granted.
• 3:57
Speaker 5: You know, you just you never saw the stress.
• 4:00
Speaker 2: Well without without good backup, supporting, good teams, no matter
• 4:04
Speaker 2: what the job is.
• 4:05
Speaker 5: No, absolutely, it doesn't work. Absolutely. And you know, through
• 4:09
Speaker 5: the course of the year, you know, you've worked with
• 4:12
Speaker 5: several different assistants. If you're filling in for a magistrate,
• 4:15
Speaker 5: then you've worked with that magistrate's assistant and they all
• 4:22
Speaker 5: I have no complaints about any of them. They all
• 4:24
Speaker 5: got there, they got their ducks.
• 4:26
  Speaker 6: In a row.
• 4:27
Speaker 2: Give us the bio and Harry Carpenter for the We
• 4:29
Speaker 2: talked about your time in the Sheriff's office. But yeah,
• 4:31
Speaker 2: the pre magister or outside magister court, who was Harry Carpenter.
• 4:34
Speaker 5: Well, I worked for the Sheriff's Office for twenty five years.
• 4:38
Speaker 5: Well actually with my part time service there almost thirty years.
• 4:42
Speaker 5: And uh, I guess maybe the last fifteen or so
• 4:48
Speaker 5: since Mike Ruthfert his first term as sheriff. I was
• 4:51
Speaker 5: the chief of their home confinement section. So I was
• 4:55
Speaker 5: in and out of the court every day, you know,
• 4:57
Speaker 5: and worked with the magistrates in the circuit judges and
• 5:00
Speaker 5: the prosecutors and defense attorneys. So when I say this
• 5:05
Speaker 5: wasn't new to me, it wasn't new. And I retired
• 5:10
Speaker 5: and Magister Polly, Uh, when he took his retirement, I
• 5:16
Speaker 5: got a call from Chief Judge Kenny Ballard, uh asking
• 5:21
Speaker 5: if I was interested, and absolutely, so, here we are.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: What was it about, not just Magistrate Harry, but also
• 5:31
Speaker 2: your time and with the Sheriff's Apartment of other things
• 5:33
Speaker 2: you did. Why why is that important to you to
• 5:35
  Speaker 2: serve people?
• 5:36
Speaker 5: Well, you know how the system works, you and in
• 5:41
Speaker 5: my position with the Sheriff's Office, I got a little
• 5:44
Speaker 5: closer to the people within the system. I mean we
• 5:51
Speaker 5: were in their homes. Uh, you know, we saw them weekly.
• 5:56
Speaker 5: So you know, again when I say that it was
• 6:00
Speaker 5: a big transition for me, it wasn't. And and and
• 6:05
Speaker 5: you know, sometimes that's a good thing. Sometimes it can
• 6:07
Speaker 5: be a bad thing. I mean, you've got to understand that.
• 6:11
Speaker 5: You know, when you're sitting on the bench, you have
• 6:13
Speaker 5: to be unbassed. You can't take one side or the other.
• 6:16
Speaker 5: You just listen to what's presented and you make a
• 6:18
  Speaker 5: rational decision.
• 6:20
  Speaker 6: Uh.
• 6:22
Speaker 5: To be honest, you know, you've still got that law
• 6:25
Speaker 5: enforcement brain you uh, and you've got to you've got
• 6:29
Speaker 5: to fight to keep that to the side. And I
• 6:32
Speaker 5: think I've done done a good job.
• 6:34
Speaker 2: With that as somebody who was in law enforcement. Does
• 6:36
Speaker 2: it give you a little bit of an advantage being
• 6:41
  Speaker 2: a magistrate.
• 6:42
Speaker 5: Well, I think it does because again, if you spend
• 6:45
Speaker 5: a lot of time in the court, you know the
• 6:47
Speaker 5: system and how the court works. So and being a magistrate,
• 6:52
Speaker 5: you know, if you get appointed particularly or if you
• 6:55
Speaker 5: get elected, Uh, you go to work. I mean, you
• 6:59
Speaker 5: know there is I guess it's just basically OJT on
• 7:03
Speaker 5: the job training and you go to work. And but
• 7:07
Speaker 5: let me tell you, if you don't have a background
• 7:09
Speaker 5: into it. You're going to lean on them assistance, Okay,
• 7:13
Speaker 5: they are going to be your life blood to learning.
• 7:16
Speaker 2: What are some of the biggest misconceptions you think the
• 7:18
Speaker 2: public has about the job of a magistrate or magistrate court.
• 7:21
Speaker 5: Well, it just it just doesn't In the magistrate court,
• 7:28
Speaker 5: of course, the magistrate I like to look at it
• 7:32
Speaker 5: as the mascate is the hub of the wheel. Okay,
• 7:35
Speaker 5: you had the spokes, which are the prosecutors, the defense attorneys,
• 7:39
Speaker 5: the defendants, the law enforcement, the witnesses, and of course
• 7:43
Speaker 5: the assistants. When that wheels rolling, everything's fine. But if
• 7:48
Speaker 5: just one of those fractures, then you know, that's when
• 7:54
Speaker 5: you have to start making tough decisions. And you know,
• 7:59
Speaker 5: fortunately for us, you know, we've we've got the magistrate
• 8:03
Speaker 5: at court as itself as a good team of prosecutors,
• 8:06
Speaker 5: and the Public Defender's Office is to me second to
• 8:11
Speaker 5: none of any in this state. I mean, those are
• 8:15
Speaker 5: very hard working individuals and realistic, you know. So a
• 8:21
Speaker 5: lot of times with the cases, you hope that everybody
• 8:26
Speaker 5: can get their heads together and we can come to
• 8:29
Speaker 5: a resolution, and that happens from the majority.
• 8:34
Speaker 2: Of Someone once said to me that if you're in
• 8:36
Speaker 2: magister court, Harry, and we're talking with Harry Carpenter, who's
• 8:39
Speaker 2: a Gnaw County matters. Someone once told me in matter court,
• 8:42
Speaker 2: it could be the best day of your life or
• 8:44
Speaker 2: the worst day of your life. I don't know if
• 8:47
Speaker 2: it's gonna be the worst day of dramatic maybe, yeah,
• 8:50
  Speaker 2: I don't think.
• 8:50
Speaker 5: It's gonna be the worst day of your life. I mean,
• 8:53
Speaker 5: you know, on a day to day basis, we're just
• 8:56
Speaker 5: dealing with mister me or crimes, okay, So you know,
• 9:00
Speaker 5: it's not the end of the world now. So people
• 9:03
Speaker 5: that have never been involved in the system, yeah, it
• 9:06
Speaker 5: could be traumatic. I mean, if you've never been arrested before,
• 9:09
Speaker 5: you get arrested and charged with the crime, sure it
• 9:12
Speaker 5: could be traumatic for you. You know, you you don't.
• 9:15
  Speaker 6: Know, but.
• 9:18
Speaker 5: You know there's and we do. The only felonies that
• 9:21
Speaker 5: we handle is the preliminary hearing, okay.
• 9:26
Speaker 2: And that's what you see on TV.
• 9:27
Speaker 5: That's what that could be a bad day of your life,
• 9:32
Speaker 5: you know, you know.
• 9:34
Speaker 2: It's it is interesting I think because I think sometimes
• 9:36
Speaker 2: the public thinks that the magic and I'm not trying
• 9:38
Speaker 2: to downplay the magistrate court at all, but I think
• 9:40
Speaker 2: sometimes people think that the magistrates have more power than
• 9:45
  Speaker 2: they actually do.
• 9:46
  Speaker 4: You have.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: They have a big thick codebook right there, and that
• 9:48
Speaker 2: how much tells you what you what you can and
• 9:50
Speaker 2: can't do. What is it that makes up the majority
• 9:53
Speaker 2: of magistrates dockets here in Kanan County?
• 9:55
Speaker 5: I tell you for me personally, I've seen a big
• 9:59
Speaker 5: influence looks of domestic crimes. I mean a lot of
• 10:03
Speaker 5: domestic crimes. And uh, you know, of course our prosecutor,
• 10:07
Speaker 5: you know, she she uh uh she has a tough
• 10:12
Speaker 5: stance on domestic crimes, which is a good thing, and
• 10:16
Speaker 5: but domestics just seems to be on the rise for
• 10:19
  Speaker 5: some reason.
• 10:20
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 10:20
Speaker 5: You know, minor drug charges you know, obviously you're going
• 10:23
Speaker 5: to see them every day, but uh in DUIs. But uh,
• 10:31
Speaker 5: the aggravating ones are your trespassing and your shoplifters.
• 10:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of repeat offenders there, kids.
• 10:38
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, And that's uh uh, that's a sad testament.
• 10:44
Speaker 2: Do you have a website or social media or anything
• 10:46
Speaker 2: to learn more about you?
• 10:47
  Speaker 6: Just me?
• 10:48
Speaker 2: Just you, just me, all right, the final thirty just you.
• 10:51
Speaker 2: Why should someone vote to keep Harry Carpenter's knack Anty Magistrate.
• 10:54
Speaker 5: Well, I'm doing the job because I want to do it.
• 10:57
Speaker 5: It's not because uh board and retired. It's not because
• 11:02
Speaker 5: somebody said, hey, do you want to do this. I
• 11:05
Speaker 5: have run in the past, and I wanted the job,
• 11:09
Speaker 5: and in doing such, I try to bring as much
• 11:13
Speaker 5: common sense to the job as I can. And I
• 11:18
Speaker 5: try to run a quick docket. You know, it's not
• 11:21
Speaker 5: a cattle call for your scheduled at nine o'clock. I
• 11:23
  Speaker 5: won't hear you at nine o'clock, and I just I
• 11:28
Speaker 5: don't try. I am fair. I am fair and unbiased,
• 11:32
Speaker 5: and that's how I run the court.

Speaker 10: Prior to that, I was the municipal judge for three
• 16:07
Speaker 10: and a half years, and I've been around. I've worked
• 16:12
Speaker 10: at a kind of a multitude of places within the
• 16:17
Speaker 10: state government and around. So I have a lot of experience,
• 16:20
Speaker 10: whether that be with our criminal justice system, whether that
• 16:24
Speaker 10: be with our state legislature, whether that be dealing with
• 16:30
Speaker 10: constituent matters and protecting our seniors. I have a plethor
• 16:34
Speaker 10: experience on the outside as far as my elected history.
• 16:39
Speaker 4: I currently serve on.
• 16:40
Speaker 10: The Municipal Utilities Commission Board and serve on a water board,
• 16:46
Speaker 10: waste water board, storm water board, as well as chairman
• 16:49
Speaker 10: of our Origins Committee. So I have a lot of
• 16:51
Speaker 10: experience when it comes to legislation, working with others, even
• 16:56
Speaker 10: with others that you may not agree with all the time,
• 16:59
Speaker 10: to produce what is best for our constituents and throughout
• 17:03
Speaker 10: all citizens of Kannall County.
• 17:04
Speaker 2: So, with all of your experience and all the things
• 17:07
Speaker 2: that you've done, why the run for County Commission?
• 17:10
  Speaker 10: So I think I come from a unique background. I
• 17:12
Speaker 10: come from a municipal background as well as a state background.
• 17:16
Speaker 10: I think that we can apply things that I have
• 17:19
Speaker 10: done on both to the county level. I first and
• 17:23
Speaker 10: foremost want to say I believe the County Commission has
• 17:25
Speaker 10: done a great job with dealing with a lot of
• 17:29
Speaker 10: its programs. But I can bring that As we know
• 17:34
Speaker 10: for the listeners that Commissioner Lance Wheeler is running for
• 17:38
Speaker 10: the West Virginia Senate and so that the seat will
• 17:41
Speaker 10: be vacated. I'm not running against him. I want to
• 17:43
Speaker 10: make that abundantly clear. I've had a few people ask
• 17:46
Speaker 10: me that, and Lance has actually endorsed my canadacy for
• 17:49
Speaker 10: the County Commission to take his spot. But you know,
• 17:53
Speaker 10: let's talk about things that Kanall Countians want. We all
• 17:58
Speaker 10: know that utilities continue you to increase. We know that
• 18:02
Speaker 10: people are hurting throughout the county. I'm the only candidate
• 18:06
Speaker 10: in this race that has stood up to utilities. We
• 18:09
Speaker 10: had a utility tried to purchase our water and sewer system.
• 18:13
Speaker 10: I was the council person who stood up and against
• 18:16
Speaker 10: that and made sure that our constituents race stayed at
• 18:19
Speaker 10: an affordable price. Our people in Kanall County care about
• 18:24
Speaker 10: clean water throughout the county. I'm the only candidate that
• 18:29
Speaker 10: serves on a water board, wastewater board, and stormwater board.
• 18:33
Speaker 10: I've experienced in water projects. We're currently dealing and just
• 18:37
Speaker 10: approved a multi million dollar capital improvement plan for water
• 18:42
Speaker 10: for thousands of Kannal Countians. We've improved our storm waters
• 18:46
Speaker 10: to deal with the flooding issues that we've had just
• 18:48
Speaker 10: minor flooding, I don't want to say in major flooding.
• 18:51
Speaker 10: I've experienced with that dilapidata structures. That's something that all
• 18:57
Speaker 10: across Kannall County people taught talk about. There can be
• 19:01
Speaker 10: a hot bed of political I'm sorry, political activity. You
• 19:04
Speaker 10: can see where my mind's at. Hotbed of criminal activity.
• 19:09
Speaker 10: I've seen it throughout the county myself. I've experienced doing that.
• 19:13
Speaker 10: When I was a municipal judge. One of the largest
• 19:16
Speaker 10: dilapidata structures in our community came before my court and
• 19:21
Speaker 10: we were able to work some things out with that
• 19:24
Speaker 10: and get that building torn down or we're working to
• 19:26
Speaker 10: promote economic development on that property. I think that experience,
• 19:32
Speaker 10: on top of my passion and enthusiasm and work on
• 19:36
Speaker 10: a state level as well as municipal level, can bring
• 19:40
Speaker 10: that all together and work really well for the Kennall
• 19:43
Speaker 10: County Commission. You know, I also serve on two Local
• 19:48
Speaker 10: School Improvement Councils ls i C. I started that this year,
• 19:53
Speaker 10: something I'm proud to do. I'm proud to work with
• 19:55
Speaker 10: our school systems to make sure our students have adequate information,
• 20:01
Speaker 10: are funded well, and help to really get funding and
• 20:06
Speaker 10: ideas for our school system of our local schools. And
• 20:09
Speaker 10: while those are local community schools, those ideas can go
• 20:13
Speaker 10: county wide and we have seen that and that's something
• 20:16
Speaker 10: that while the County Commission doesn't directly touch schools day
• 20:22
Speaker 10: to day, that's the role of the county school Board.
• 20:27
Speaker 10: It helps to have a commissioner who is involved and
• 20:30
Speaker 10: familiar with the school system, have relationships with students, with educators,
• 20:35
Speaker 10: with administrators, as well as our Sheriff's department. You know,
• 20:40
Speaker 10: many municipalities have school Resource Office prevention resource officers. My
• 20:45
Speaker 10: father was actually the first p r O in Kenall County.
• 20:48
Speaker 10: And it's important that the schools who are not in
• 20:52
Speaker 10: city limits that do not have a municipality uniformed officer
• 20:57
Speaker 10: there that our Sheriff's Department continues to prove guide an
• 21:02
Speaker 10: uniformed officer for those schools as well as collaborate with
• 21:05
Speaker 10: the resource officer program with the state. UH and I
• 21:12
Speaker 10: have that relationship obviously with Sheriff Crawford to continue to
• 21:16
  Speaker 10: make that happen.
• 21:17
Speaker 4: And as a commissioner.
• 21:19
Speaker 10: I'm able to go to these schools, talk to these children,
• 21:22
Speaker 10: help them learn, help and help really improve the school
• 21:25
Speaker 10: system and generally UH and if if there's a school
• 21:28
Speaker 10: that may be in need, I have that experience.
• 21:33
  Speaker 2: To do that.
• 21:34
Speaker 10: I'm also the president of our area Chamber of Commerce.
• 21:37
Speaker 10: You know, we focused on recruiting jobs throughout our community.
• 21:41
Speaker 10: Our Chamber of Commerce is not just one city extends
• 21:44
Speaker 10: we have even in multiple different counties are our membership expands.
• 21:49
Speaker 10: So I think economic development our county is a very
• 21:52
Speaker 10: top issue. So that way we have our citizens have
• 21:57
Speaker 10: quality jobs here and people want to stay here. You know,
• 22:00
Speaker 10: small business is the backbone of any community, any county.
• 22:05
Speaker 10: And I've said through a multitude away strong community, strong
• 22:09
Speaker 10: cities equally strong county and strong counties equal a strong state.
• 22:14
Speaker 10: Everything is local, shop local. I believe it is a
• 22:18
Speaker 10: small business Week this week, so I definitely encourage all
• 22:21
Speaker 10: of you to get out in the shop local.
• 22:24
  Speaker 1: For that.
• 22:26
Speaker 10: And so I think if you combine all of my
• 22:29
Speaker 10: experience and on one other issue, sports tourism, look at
• 22:33
Speaker 10: the success that Shawnee has had.
• 22:36
  Speaker 2: You see people.
• 22:37
Speaker 10: I see people all the time coming in for different events.
• 22:41
Speaker 10: They're spending money in our communities, They're shopping in our communities,
• 22:44
Speaker 10: they're going out to eat. I'm the candidate with experience.
• 22:48
Speaker 10: I was able alongside our administration to secure a former
• 22:54
Speaker 10: school that was consolidated, to negotiate to lease that property
• 23:00
Speaker 10: for our community as a community center. I have people
• 23:03
Speaker 10: all the time, their their children are coming in for
• 23:06
Speaker 10: basketball using that facility. We're having a grand opening her
• 23:10
Speaker 10: ribbon cutting, open ribbon cutting tomorrow evening. And I was
• 23:16
Speaker 10: also able to secure funding for new pickleball court for
• 23:20
Speaker 10: our community. We'll have a grand opening, slash, ribbon cutting
• 23:23
Speaker 10: in the next few weeks for that. So I have
• 23:25
Speaker 10: experienced in that. I know that that's something that's important
• 23:28
Speaker 10: to the county, in the county revenue and people coming
• 23:32
Speaker 10: to our county. And I'm going to continue to use
• 23:34
Speaker 10: that experience that I just listed in the multitude areas
• 23:38
Speaker 10: to brand bring that to Kenall County Commission.
• 23:41
Speaker 2: Talking to Jared Page again, who's the candidate for Canawa
• 23:43
Speaker 2: County Commission nine thirty one to Dave Island, showing five
• 23:46
Speaker 2: Indieline brought you and part by at Charleston Dirty Birds.
• 23:48
Speaker 2: Birds are on the road this week in Staten Island
• 23:50
Speaker 2: back at Gomart Ballpark on election to day, Tuesday the twelfth.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: Get your tickets now Dirtybirds Baseball dot com. As you said,
• 23:56
Speaker 2: you are running for the seat currently held by Lance Wheeler.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: He's stepping away. We still serve me now, but I
• 24:01
Speaker 2: mean to take a run at State Senate. If elected,
• 24:04
Speaker 2: you'll be working alongside Commissioned President Minsolango and Natalie Tenant,
• 24:07
  Speaker 2: the other commissioner.
• 24:08
Speaker 10: How are you working well with others? I believe I
• 24:11
Speaker 10: work very well with others. As a you know, as
• 24:14
Speaker 10: a member of a city council of twelve members, you
• 24:18
Speaker 10: have to be able to to work well to get
• 24:22
Speaker 10: initiatives passed and to collaborate. And I've also seen that
• 24:26
Speaker 10: firsthand with the state Legislature and my experience there. It
• 24:31
Speaker 10: takes a team to to to get along with everybody.
• 24:34
Speaker 10: It takes a team to get things done, and it
• 24:37
Speaker 10: also takes a at a time where we see divisions
• 24:42
Speaker 10: within the Republican Party, within the Democratic Party, and definitely
• 24:47
Speaker 10: those two parties fighting each other. I think it's important
• 24:51
Speaker 10: to have an individual who can get along with both sides,
• 24:54
Speaker 10: who has a proven record of being able to work
• 24:56
Speaker 10: with both sides of the political aisle to get things done.
• 25:00
Speaker 10: I believe that the Canall County Commission is a entity
• 25:04
Speaker 10: that well, really county commissions across Western using entity that
• 25:08
Speaker 10: needs to focus on results versus partisanship.
• 25:11
Speaker 4: And that is my that's my passion. I want to
• 25:13
  Speaker 4: get things done.
• 25:14
  Speaker 10: I'm not a talker, I'm a doer, and I thank
• 25:18
Speaker 10: you my record in the City of Saint Oms as
• 25:20
Speaker 10: municipal judge and as a city councilman, as well as
• 25:25
Speaker 10: multitude of boards. I think that you can see my
• 25:28
Speaker 10: record of getting things done, not not partisanship, and not
• 25:32
Speaker 10: just talking the talk I walked the walk.
• 25:34
Speaker 2: County commissions are kind of different, you know, Kandall County
• 25:36
Speaker 2: have three county commissioners. I mean there's less than there are,
• 25:39
Speaker 2: let's say, with Board of Educations, and certainly less than
• 25:42
Speaker 2: what you have on city councils and the legislature. There's
• 25:45
Speaker 2: only three of you, yes, and so sometimes regardless of party.
• 25:48
Speaker 2: I mean, you know, sometimes you're going to have well
• 25:51
Speaker 2: three different opinions. You're going to have two different opinions,
• 25:54
Speaker 2: and these two disagree with this one, you know, and
• 25:58
Speaker 2: sometimes you know, you got to it's a unique way
• 26:01
Speaker 2: that you got to kind of work it out. It
• 26:03
Speaker 2: is if there if there issues may not be, but
• 26:05
Speaker 2: if there are issues.
• 26:06
Speaker 10: Yeah, and it is, and I think are the current
• 26:08
Speaker 10: structure County Commission it is. I've worked very well with
• 26:14
Speaker 10: President Selango. Although he is a Dallas Cowboy fan, that's
• 26:18
Speaker 10: the only kind of downside there.
• 26:19
Speaker 2: But here we got fire.
• 26:22
Speaker 10: Yes, I told him I will say that, but but no,
• 26:25
Speaker 10: I work very well with President Selango, and I think
• 26:27
Speaker 10: his vision for Kennall County UH with its economic development
• 26:32
Speaker 10: and sports tourism UH plans with the Keynot Capital Sports Center,
• 26:38
Speaker 10: I believe that we will work very well together. I
• 26:41
Speaker 10: have a relationship with the Commissioner intended as well from
• 26:45
Speaker 10: my time at State Capital while while she was there
• 26:51
Speaker 10: many many years ago. So I think I will work
• 26:54
Speaker 10: very well on the commission. I'm a team player, UH,
• 26:58
Speaker 10: and I'm also always willing to come compromise. I'm willing
• 27:01
Speaker 10: to now, I'm willing to fight for what I believe in,
• 27:03
Speaker 10: but I also understand the compromise is the way of
• 27:07
Speaker 10: the game, and I think that we need to have
• 27:09
Speaker 10: someone in that position because I think Lance has done
• 27:12
Speaker 10: a tremendous job on the County commission. He was able
• 27:15
Speaker 10: to work with with multiple different commissioners during his tenure,
• 27:19
Speaker 10: and some of the progress that he has made at
• 27:21
Speaker 10: Meadowood Park and some of the other park projects, as
• 27:25
Speaker 10: well as bringing economic development here to the county. I
• 27:29
Speaker 10: really will turn to his counsel on how to be
• 27:33
Speaker 10: a commissioner, so to speak, and I think he is
• 27:36
Speaker 10: the the the the standard bearer of how to work
• 27:39
Speaker 10: with get along with everyone. I tend to get along
• 27:44
Speaker 10: with everyone. That may be a fault of mine, but
• 27:47
Speaker 10: I tend to be friends with everybody because I treat
• 27:52
Speaker 10: people how I want to be treated. I treat I've
• 27:55
Speaker 10: been in a room with with multiple different pro at
• 27:58
Speaker 10: the same time, but I've been in room with multiple presidents.
• 28:01
Speaker 10: I treat them as much as the same as I
• 28:03
Speaker 10: will treat anybody else. And that's how I've always been,
• 28:06
Speaker 10: That's how I've governed. Treat people with respect, honesty, transparency,
• 28:11
Speaker 10: and ethics. At a time you know, we we see
• 28:13
Speaker 10: what's going on in the state on both sides of
• 28:17
Speaker 10: the al mudsling negative ads, and it's not one party,
• 28:21
Speaker 10: it's not one group. I'm not singling anybody out, but
• 28:25
Speaker 10: you know, I try to be ethical, honest, and who
• 28:30
Speaker 10: I am, and that's how I was raised.
• 28:33
Speaker 4: Son of a law enforcement officer.
• 28:35
Speaker 10: I was raised that way, and that's how I want
• 28:37
Speaker 10: to govern and that's how I plan to work with
• 28:40
Speaker 10: the President Selango and and Commissioner Tenant on multitude of projects.
• 28:46
Speaker 2: You have a social media or a website people can
• 28:48
Speaker 2: learn more about you.
• 28:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, you can go to uh Facebook.
• 28:51
Speaker 10: I've got a campaign Facebook page as well as a
• 28:55
Speaker 10: website that just has a little bit about me.
• 28:59
Speaker 4: And generic background about me.
• 29:01
  Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
• 29:01
Speaker 4: It was under Jared Page for County Commission.
• 29:04
Speaker 2: Final thirty watching someone votes for Jared Page for Canon
• 29:07
Speaker 2: County Commission. Okay, Well, the County Commission is important position.
• 29:12
Speaker 4: We all know that.
• 29:15
Speaker 10: The Kanall County Commission deserves a candidate someone who has
• 29:18
Speaker 10: experience in fighting back against utility race to keep more
• 29:22
Speaker 10: money in your pocket. The County Commission deserves someone who
• 29:25
Speaker 10: has a track record of success in water projects, wastewater projects,
• 29:31
Speaker 10: and stormwater projects, so that way to ensure that all
• 29:35
Speaker 10: Kanaal Counties have clean drinking water. They also deserve someone
• 29:39
Speaker 10: who has experience keeping our community safe and our schools safe,
• 29:44
Speaker 10: and I'm that candidate. I don't like to be selfish
• 29:48
Speaker 10: or brag about it. That's not who I am. But
• 29:50
Speaker 10: the contrast is clear. I have experience in what actually
• 29:54
Speaker 10: matters in Kannall County, not just writing checks. I have
• 29:58
Speaker 10: real experience, and I want to bring at from a
• 30:00
Speaker 10: municipal standpoint and a state standpoint to the Kanall County Commission.
• 30:05
Speaker 10: I look forward to serving all the Kanaal Countians and
• 30:10
Speaker 10: humbly ask for your support this coming Tuesday or for
• 30:13
Speaker 10: the rest of early voting.
• 30:14
Speaker 2: Sharon Page, I appreciate you and being here.
• 30:16
Speaker 4: Thank you very much.
• 30:17
Speaker 10: I want to give one shout out to a friend
• 30:18
Speaker 10: of mine's got to have a big day saying, I'm
• 30:21
Speaker 10: his name is More and she got a little event
• 30:22
Speaker 10: tonight that's really nervous about it. So I told her
• 30:24
Speaker 10: I was going to give her a shout out and
• 30:25
Speaker 10: good luck tonight. So I got to give her a
• 30:27
Speaker 10: shout out, and Dave, I just want to say thank
• 30:29
Speaker 10: you for everything and I hope everything's going well with
• 30:33
Speaker 10: your health, and we've been praying for you and really
• 30:37
Speaker 10: really hope everything's going well.

• 34:31
  Speaker 6: Thankfully?
• 34:32
Speaker 12: I'm going to make it easy for your listeners, and
• 34:33
Speaker 12: I'm not saying vote for this person or that person,
• 34:36
Speaker 12: just want to talk to you about the public safety.
• 34:38
Speaker 2: Have you ever ate all seriousness own? You and I've
• 34:39
Speaker 2: been friends lot, Have you ever considered running for office?
• 34:42
  Speaker 13: Uh?
• 34:43
Speaker 12: I would consider it even less nowadays with the atmosphere
• 34:47
Speaker 12: that you see, and you know, if I did, I
• 34:51
Speaker 12: would hope I could focus more on here's why you
• 34:53
Speaker 12: should vote for me, Here's why you should not vote
• 34:55
  Speaker 12: for someone.
• 34:56
Speaker 2: All right, Well, let's live at that. That could be
• 34:57
Speaker 2: down the line at some port. One thing, though, speaking
• 35:01
Speaker 2: of elections, that I don't think has gotten a whole
• 35:03
Speaker 2: lot of oxygen this primary season, is the Kanawha County
• 35:06
Speaker 2: Public Safety Levee. What is it, what does it do?
• 35:10
Speaker 2: And why is it so important? A KRT sure?
• 35:12
Speaker 12: So, the Public Safety Levee has been around for almost
• 35:14
Speaker 12: fifty four years, so longer than I've been here on earth,
• 35:18
Speaker 12: and you know, it's it's an opportunity for the citizens
• 35:20
Speaker 12: of Kanawa County to say, hey, there are things that
• 35:22
Speaker 12: are unanimously important to us. That is the public safety.
• 35:25
Speaker 12: So when we talk about first responders, we talk about
• 35:28
Speaker 12: volunteer fire departments, we talk about ambulance, you talk about
• 35:32
Speaker 12: protective equipment for our law enforcement, and you talk about
• 35:35
Speaker 12: public transit and we're kind of the outlier there. You think, hey,
• 35:38
Speaker 12: wire buses, public you know, public safety. But we recognize
• 35:42
Speaker 12: the importance of the levee. It provides about sixty percent
• 35:46
Speaker 12: funding for KRT. So I got asked the question earlier
• 35:49
Speaker 12: what would KRT look like without the public Safety levee?
• 35:52
Speaker 12: And the answer is, just to be honest, is it
• 35:54
Speaker 12: wouldn't look anything like KRT does today. So tremendously important
• 35:58
Speaker 12: to us, and we're really proud that it has been
• 36:01
Speaker 12: in existence for so long. And again, not a new tax,
• 36:04
Speaker 12: but just actually and that's.
• 36:05
Speaker 2: The number one question that you get is people say,
• 36:07
Speaker 2: and this is something that a lot of people just
• 36:09
Speaker 2: you know, may not remember in this you kind of
• 36:13
Speaker 2: talked about this, you know, how this primary has been
• 36:16
Speaker 2: so far that I mean, it's kind of got out
• 36:19
Speaker 2: of the public eye a little bit on this safe levee.
• 36:20
Speaker 2: But it's not a new tax as you say, it's
• 36:23
Speaker 2: been in existence for how many years.
• 36:24
Speaker 6: It's been about fifty four years.
• 36:26
Speaker 2: Fifty four years now, all right, because that's the number
• 36:28
Speaker 2: one question, I know, you get it. This is going
• 36:29
Speaker 2: to raise my taxes?
• 36:30
Speaker 6: No, and so it's definitely not.
• 36:31
Speaker 12: And what it's going to do is allow us to
• 36:33
Speaker 12: continue to serve all areas of the county. It's going
• 36:36
Speaker 12: to allow you know, God forbid, you need an ambulance
• 36:38
Speaker 12: to show up, it's going to show up thanks to
• 36:40
Speaker 12: this levee if you live in one of the communities
• 36:43
Speaker 12: that need access from a VFD to show up if
• 36:45
Speaker 12: your house catches on fire. The public safety kind of
• 36:47
Speaker 12: the things that I think we can all agree upon
• 36:49
Speaker 12: are so important for Kanawah County. This just continues that
• 36:52
Speaker 12: path forward to allow us to continue to address those
• 36:55
Speaker 12: those problems when they pop up. And one of the
• 36:59
Speaker 12: things too, you know that happens when you talk about
• 37:01
Speaker 12: KRT and how is this public safety? We do a
• 37:04
Speaker 12: lot with our million passengers. We take a year you
• 37:07
Speaker 12: know on the bus service that you think of KRT for,
• 37:10
Speaker 12: but we do so much more, we move about fifty
• 37:12
Speaker 12: thousand individuals a year and pair of transit trips, So
• 37:14
Speaker 12: people who may have mobility challenges, we take them door
• 37:17
Speaker 12: to door to medical appointments, we take them to the
• 37:19
Speaker 12: grocery store, to school, to work. So we like to
• 37:22
Speaker 12: say we connect people to opportunity and this is a
• 37:24
Speaker 12: way that we do that. And we also do some
• 37:26
Speaker 12: other things behind the scenes that we don't talk about enough,
• 37:29
Speaker 12: but we we like we appreciate that we get a
• 37:31
Speaker 12: chance to do it. So situations like a few weeks
• 37:34
Speaker 12: ago that tragedy and institute, when first responders need someone
• 37:38
Speaker 12: to show up and move a large.
• 37:39
Speaker 6: Group of people quick, they call KRT.
• 37:41
Speaker 12: We also manage the Kenaw County Fuel Consortium, where we
• 37:44
Speaker 12: provide fueling services for sheriffs, ambulance, senior services about almost
• 37:50
Speaker 12: one hundred agencies, which has saved almost half a million
• 37:53
Speaker 12: dollars already this year in taxpayer dollars. So we're really
• 37:55
Speaker 12: proud of those contracts that we help manage and administer.
• 37:58
Speaker 12: And it's little things that you don't think about, and hey,
• 38:00
Speaker 12: I maybe never ride the bus, but as a taxpayer,
• 38:03
Speaker 12: I hope you know that we are doing everything we
• 38:04
Speaker 12: can to be responsible with your funds.
• 38:06
Speaker 2: And a lot of people listening right now, we're going
• 38:07
Speaker 2: to well, I had no idea what they did that.
• 38:09
Speaker 2: You know, we need to talk about that more. I
• 38:11
Speaker 2: want to talk about that situation. I know you don't
• 38:13
Speaker 2: like to pat yourselves on the back, but that was
• 38:15
Speaker 2: a very very tense situation and tragically couple of people,
• 38:19
Speaker 2: you know, lost their lives out there a couple of
• 38:21
Speaker 2: weeks ago, and the chemical spill there and institute and
• 38:25
Speaker 2: or the chemical incident is sure, I think is the
• 38:27
Speaker 2: correct term for it. And you said to and I
• 38:30
Speaker 2: know we were talking about on the air, the KRT
• 38:32
Speaker 2: was involved in that did and you do a lot
• 38:34
Speaker 2: of planning for as you said, moving mass numbers of people,
• 38:38
Speaker 2: you know, into medical facilities. How did that work out?
• 38:41
Speaker 12: Yeah, And so you know, we don't pretend that we're
• 38:43
Speaker 12: first responders day in and day out like the rest
• 38:45
Speaker 12: of the individuals that are supported through this public safety levee,
• 38:48
Speaker 12: but we are really proud of the role we play.
• 38:50
Speaker 12: So working with emergency management, we do scenarios basically tabletop
• 38:55
Speaker 12: exercises or drills that we go through a couple of
• 38:58
Speaker 12: times a year to be prepared and thankfully. The majority
• 39:01
Speaker 12: of the time we get called out, it's for a
• 39:03
Speaker 12: flood or some situation where they want us to stage,
• 39:06
Speaker 12: and we haven't been used as often, thankfully, But there
• 39:09
Speaker 12: are instances where, you know, we get a call on
• 39:11
Speaker 12: our evac team, which is made up of different volunteers
• 39:14
Speaker 12: at our staff, our supervisors. And this time I was
• 39:17
Speaker 12: so proud because by the time I got to the
• 39:19
Speaker 12: end of the hallway, two buses had already.
• 39:20
Speaker 6: Been dispatched on the way to the institute.
• 39:22
Speaker 12: So we're driving down there saying, hey, you know, when
• 39:24
Speaker 12: we get there, we're going to look for emergency management
• 39:26
Speaker 12: and CW Stigmad is going to tell us, hey, here's
• 39:28
Speaker 12: what you can do. And it really went flawless, and
• 39:32
Speaker 12: I appreciate our operators for performing that. And again it
• 39:35
Speaker 12: is something kind of quiet we don't like to talk
• 39:37
Speaker 12: about because we hope it doesn't happen. But I do
• 39:40
Speaker 12: want people to know that when those situations arise, we're
• 39:42
Speaker 12: going to be there.
• 39:43
Speaker 2: I do want to pass us note a long too,
• 39:44
Speaker 2: you totally unrelated anything. Sean's talking about what we did
• 39:46
Speaker 2: have that traffic alert that was textased into us about
• 39:48
Speaker 2: twenty minutes or so ago, and I haven't had an
• 39:51
Speaker 2: update on that, but we were told at that time
• 39:53
Speaker 2: the Corkle Street entrance ramped I sixty four East and
• 39:56
Speaker 2: South Charleston closed traffic backups. Also, Texas said there's a
• 40:00
Speaker 2: wreck on the Corcyland Montrose, so down to one lane
• 40:02
Speaker 2: in both those areas. It was about twenty minutes ago.
• 40:05
Speaker 2: Just want to make sure everybody realizes that with the
• 40:08
Speaker 2: high price of gas, Sean, are you seeing more people
• 40:10
  Speaker 2: choosing Charante?
• 40:11
Speaker 12: We are, and so last month we were proud to
• 40:14
Speaker 12: see it about a four percent increase in ridership in
• 40:17
Speaker 12: this April over last April it's up five percent. So
• 40:20
Speaker 12: when people are going out and they're looking in saying, hey,
• 40:22
Speaker 12: you know, four dollars or more a gallon versus a
• 40:25
Speaker 12: dollar fifty to ride the bus, we're seeing people choosing
• 40:27
Speaker 12: the bus, and so I hope that people can look
• 40:30
Speaker 12: into our service and say, hey, maybe I've never decided
• 40:32
Speaker 12: that this was an option for me, but when I
• 40:34
Speaker 12: look at the my wallet, it's much easier for me
• 40:37
Speaker 12: to ride the bus. And we're doing everything we can
• 40:39
Speaker 12: to attract new passengers and inform them of how to
• 40:42
  Speaker 12: use our service.
• 40:43
Speaker 2: What else is new with KRT.
• 40:45
Speaker 12: So another thing I want to make sure, I say,
• 40:47
Speaker 12: for the upcoming election on the twelfth, we are doing
• 40:50
Speaker 12: a fair free day on Tuesday May twelfth, So any individuals,
• 40:54
Speaker 12: it doesn't matter where you're going. You don't have to
• 40:56
Speaker 12: be going to the polling place, but we want to
• 40:57
Speaker 12: make sure it's as easy as possible for people to
• 40:59
Speaker 12: get out and vote. It doesn't matter what you vote for.
• 41:01
Speaker 12: We're not telling you how to do that, but we
• 41:03
Speaker 12: want to make sure that it's as easy as possible.
• 41:05
Speaker 12: That includes individuals who take our pair of transit trips,
• 41:07
Speaker 12: will take your door to door or if you're riding
• 41:10
Speaker 12: the bus, and just like a normal Tuesday, it's going
• 41:12
Speaker 12: to be free on election day.
• 41:13
Speaker 6: And I appreciate my.
• 41:14
Speaker 2: So it doesn't matter whether you're going to the board
• 41:16
Speaker 2: I mean, I mean to the polling place or whatever
• 41:18
Speaker 2: you're you're going to ride for free on two dirrect.
• 41:20
Speaker 12: We don't think that, you know, having access to private
• 41:24
Speaker 12: transportation should be a prerequisite to doing the things you
• 41:27
Speaker 12: want to do in Kanawa County. So whether that's going
• 41:29
Speaker 12: to work, school, medical appointment, or going to vote. And
• 41:32
Speaker 12: then on Tuesday May twelfth, we'll be able to do.
• 41:34
Speaker 6: That for free. So we're really proud to offer that service.
• 41:36
Speaker 2: But a violance show and find Vadieline Brown to you
• 41:38
Speaker 2: in part by Morgan to Morgan with more than twenty
• 41:40
Speaker 2: billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured, you
• 41:43
Speaker 2: deserve more. Morga to Morgan, America's largest injury low firm.
• 41:46
Speaker 2: I'm going to give you like the file just like
• 41:47
Speaker 2: you're a candidate, because you know, with all the candidates,
• 41:49
Speaker 2: I do the final thirty and I say, you know,
• 41:52
Speaker 2: tell us watch them why someone should vote for you.
• 41:54
Speaker 2: So for this I'm going to say on the emergency
• 41:57
Speaker 2: Levey your final thirty.
• 41:58
Speaker 6: Yes, And so I'm technically an allowed to say vote
• 42:00
Speaker 6: for the safety level. But I can tell you. I
• 42:02
Speaker 6: can tell you how.
• 42:03
Speaker 12: Important it is to care that's all you got to do.
• 42:05
Speaker 12: I can tell you how important it is to the
• 42:07
Speaker 12: ambulance authority. I can tell you how important it is
• 42:10
Speaker 12: to police and a volunteer fire. You know, I hope
• 42:12
Speaker 12: that in your lifetime you don't have to use these
• 42:14
Speaker 12: services in Kanawac County, but there may come a time
• 42:17
Speaker 12: that you do need it. And this public Safety Levey
• 42:19
Speaker 12: is exactly what keeps those services moving forward for years
• 42:22
Speaker 12: in the future, and we're really proud to be a
• 42:24
Speaker 12: part of it and appreciate the support we've received over
• 42:26
Speaker 12: the last fifty years.

• 46:05
Speaker 2: He said, though, Bob, I appreciate it. But he said
• 46:09
Speaker 2: that yesterday in an interview that that's his first Amendment right.
• 46:12
Speaker 2: Jenny mentioned a couple other people. Governor Morrisey said it
• 46:14
Speaker 2: is his first Amendment right to say whatever he wants
• 46:17
Speaker 2: to that you would say, what it is.
• 46:19
Speaker 16: His right, But what's his reason for it?
• 46:24
Speaker 2: Well, I mean, obviously he wants to have people in
• 46:27
Speaker 2: office that he thinks are going to further his agenda.
• 46:29
Speaker 2: I'm not speaking for the governor, but I mean I
• 46:31

  Speaker 6: That's funny.
• 48:49
  Speaker 11: Two. J.
• 48:50
Speaker 2: Meadows is coming up a talk line at ten and
• 48:51
Speaker 2: six along with Dave Wilson. When do you think about
• 48:53
  Speaker 2: Bob's call?
• 48:54
  Speaker 6: There?
• 48:54
Speaker 13: So a couple of things. Number one, I did not
• 48:57
Speaker 13: know that someone in government agency individual had somehow threatened
• 49:03
Speaker 13: the governor's speech when it comes to politics.
• 49:06
Speaker 2: He said that yesterday. I mean he didn't say the
• 49:07
Speaker 2: threatening I mean, but he said he is a First
• 49:09
Speaker 2: Amendment The First Amendment protects you from government intervention on
• 49:14
Speaker 2: your speech. Has nothing to do with the private market.
• 49:20
  Speaker 2: Here's the thing.
• 49:21
Speaker 13: He say whatever he wants doesn't mean it's not going
• 49:23
Speaker 13: to be immune to public opinion. Doesn't mean the market
• 49:25
Speaker 13: is not going to act on it. Also, I think
• 49:27
Speaker 13: it's glaring. You know, I'm exercising my First Amendment rights
• 49:31
Speaker 13: like Shelley Moore, Capito, like Senator Capito, fine who started
• 49:35
Speaker 13: all this, who threw the first punch, I know.
• 49:40
Speaker 2: Do you Yeah, well, you know you're you're you're alluding
• 49:43
Speaker 2: to Governor Patrick. So I mean, isn't that a bit
• 49:47
Speaker 2: critically But you know, here's the thing to play Devil's
• 49:49
Speaker 2: advocate here. And I've said this on the show and
• 49:51
Speaker 2: the shows many times, TJ is governors have done this
• 49:55
Speaker 2: in the past, elected officials, but I don't know that
• 49:59
Speaker 2: they have been is overt about it. I mean, there's
• 50:02
Speaker 2: always been conversation over a cocktail at a at a ballgame,
• 50:07
Speaker 2: a church, well should be a church, but supermarkets, whatever
• 50:10
Speaker 2: the case may be, when they said, hey, we need
• 50:11
Speaker 2: or a phone call, we need to get Ryan in
• 50:15
Speaker 2: office because Ryan is the guy that was going to
• 50:17
  Speaker 2: work with me.
• 50:18
Speaker 13: And you know what, that's a good thing, right, Okay,
• 50:21
Speaker 13: fine own it. And look, man, there's nothing new under
• 50:26
Speaker 13: the sun here. But I do think, and I'm going
• 50:32
Speaker 13: back to an ad I just saw this morning, the
• 50:37
Speaker 13: relationship that we have with truth in these ads is
• 50:40
Speaker 13: so cavalier. It is so lacking in context. The truth
• 50:44
Speaker 13: is absolute and it is complete. Either give me the
• 50:48
Speaker 13: entire truth and don't parse out part of it in
• 50:52
Speaker 13: order to make your case and ignore the rest of it.
• 50:54
Speaker 13: And I'm sorry, I just don't think that is our
• 50:57
Speaker 13: best self. That's wrong, and somebody needs to say that.
• 51:03
Speaker 13: And until we all start saying stop giving me half truths,
• 51:07
Speaker 13: we're not going to be any He says that. I mean,
• 51:09
Speaker 13: if somebody ought to, I mean, you and I have
• 51:11
Speaker 13: that's how you lose the republic.
• 51:13
Speaker 2: You and I have a platform on the radio. And
• 51:16
Speaker 2: but for people that don't follow this stuff, we have
• 51:18
Speaker 2: a tendency to think that everybody is in deep and
• 51:20
Speaker 2: this is what we are. America ain't free, buddy, You've
• 51:22
Speaker 2: got to participate. And people see these Oh I didn't
• 51:25
  Speaker 2: know this, And I mean, and there's there's a lot
• 51:27
Speaker 2: of quite frankly editorial comment here. There is a lot
• 51:30
Speaker 2: of crap out there right now that is absolutely not true,
• 51:33
Speaker 2: playing loose with the facts, playing on fears that don't exist.
• 51:37
Speaker 13: Yeah, So it's hard, man. Democracy is hard. At Republic's hard.
• 51:41
Speaker 13: You have to want it.
• 51:42
Speaker 2: What you got on your show to day.
• 51:44

• 51:47
