- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, look who it is.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hi. Hey. Shalom Aleichem. He's ready this time. He's ready
- 0:08Speaker 2: this time.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I am officially ready. I got a little white.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Oh, pour me a little. I got a little cold
- 0:12Speaker 2: white today, too.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's a little cold duck.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm really liking the new hairstyle, I have to say.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Thank you. I'm drinking this duck horn, man. Do you
- 0:20Speaker 1: like duck horn?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Uh, no, I, I, I don't know what that is.
- 0:24Speaker 2: What is that? Chardonnay? I don't fuck with Chardonnay.
- 0:26Speaker 1: No, it's a Sauvignon Blanc.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Oh, Sauvignon Blanc.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I like a nice Sancerre, which I believe is a
- 0:31Speaker 2: Sauvignon Blanc grape. I don't even, I think. Oh, how
- 0:38Speaker 2: are you, man? What's going on? This hairstyle is really
- 0:41Speaker 2: working for me.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I like that you like it. I love that.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm going to have to change the avatar I made
- 0:47Speaker 2: for you because he doesn't have this hairstyle.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I know, and the beards that they have for avatars
- 0:52Speaker 4: on the Apple iPhone isn't necessarily the dopest beard.
- 0:55Speaker 1: They're not really that good looking.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Oh, Dan's nodding because Dan is a fellow beard owner.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You agree, right?
- 1:01Speaker 5: They don't represent correctly.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's like, eh. Yeah, no, they don't. And also, I
- 1:05Speaker 1: just started following Joelle on Instagram.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Oh, really? We've been having a lot of fun.
- 1:11Speaker 1: She's got some spicy pictures.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Don't tell the people.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Mom, stop listening to the podcast right now.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Joelle, are you like provocative?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Sometimes a little bit.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Joelle knows how to find the right colors that suit
- 1:26Speaker 4: her selfies.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And then she finds the
- 1:29Speaker 1: right poses. I follow Joelle on Twitter.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I'm learning a lot. I'm learning a lot about Joelle.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Joelle and I, I started following Joelle because Bobby Moynihan
- 1:39Speaker 4: yesterday hit me up with something. And first of all, Joelle,
- 1:45Speaker 4: if we do do this Star Wars podcast, he should
- 1:47Speaker 4: be one of the hosts with us because his knowledge
- 1:50Speaker 4: of Star Wars is amazing.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Anyway, my point is- You know who else could be
- 1:56Speaker 2: on it? As I understand it, Patton Oswalt is also
- 1:59Speaker 2: on the level of you guys, right?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:02Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Absolutely. Team made.
- 2:06Speaker 4: We could make a really dope team and it would be-
- 2:09Speaker 4: It would be a dope podcast because we'd have legit
- 2:11Speaker 4: people who are legitimately into the show.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Anyway, into the movie. Into the universe.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Anyway, so Bobby Moynihan sends me a picture and it's
- 2:20Speaker 4: got all of these pilots in it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Like Luke Skywalker, Harrison Doola. Yeah, Lando's on there too.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Lando, Chewbacca. I'm going to look at it real quick.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Some of these people I'm like, who cares? But Poe Dameron,
- 2:36Speaker 4: Bodhi from Rogue One.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Porkins.
- 2:41Speaker 4: The list is pretty good. And Wedge Antilles, Han Solo.
- 2:45Speaker 4: And the list is, choose your squadron, but you can
- 2:50Speaker 4: only pick four characters. And this was the hardest thing
- 2:53Speaker 4: I'd ever had to do. And then I hit up Joelle,
- 2:57Speaker 4: and I'm like, Joelle, four characters, that's all you can choose.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And she throws them out so easily. She's first like,
- 3:04Speaker 1: oh wow, this is hard. And then she's like, who
- 3:07Speaker 1: did you say? Hera?
- 3:08Speaker 8: Wedge?
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Luke.
- 3:12Speaker 1: No, you didn't say Luke. You said you didn't want
- 3:14Speaker 1: to pick. I thought initially, wait, no, you're right.
- 3:16Speaker 7: I didn't say Luke.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 3:19Speaker 2: But I did say Anakin because I like Anakin and
- 3:21Speaker 2: he's a great fighter.
- 3:22Speaker 1: He was the best pilot in the galaxy period. So
- 3:24Speaker 1: it made sense to say Anakin. He's not even on
- 3:26Speaker 1: the list, but he should have been because that's who
- 3:27Speaker 1: I would have picked.
- 3:28Speaker 4: My point is, this was one of the hardest choices
- 3:33Speaker 4: I ever had to make when it came to Star Wars.
- 3:35Speaker 4: And Bobby Moynihan- his at is on Instagram is Bibi Moynihan.
- 3:42Speaker 4: And I chose Lando, Wedge, Luke Skywalker, and I said
- 3:48Speaker 4: Han Solo and Chewbacca are a combination.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But then I was like, yo, you know what? I'm
- 3:54Speaker 1: going to take those two off and put Hera Syndulla.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Hera's the greatest. So that was a quick teaser for
- 4:01Speaker 2: you guys who are interested in a Star Wars podcast
- 4:03Speaker 2: that will soon be coming to you From my heart.
- 4:07Speaker 2: This is not said podcast. This is a podcast about
- 4:11Speaker 2: fake doctors who are actually real friends.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but I just wanted to throw that out there
- 4:16Speaker 4: real quick because as a friend, I know you know
- 4:18Speaker 4: how important Star Wars is to me. And if I
- 4:21Speaker 4: have some Star Wars trivia or knowledge or a puzzle
- 4:27Speaker 4: that you would always allow me to talk Star Wars
- 4:32Speaker 4: because you know how it's important to me.
- 4:34Speaker 6: It is.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It is very important to my friend, and I love
- 4:36Speaker 2: you very much. Welcome all of our listeners. Hi, everybody.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Thank you for listening. Thank you for all your amazing
- 4:42Speaker 2: feedback on our Instagram and Twitter. Donald and I love
- 4:47Speaker 2: hearing from you guys and love hearing what you have
- 4:49Speaker 2: to say. I saw someone today regarding Tuesday's show said, oh,
- 4:55Speaker 2: my God, this podcast is getting dirty. Because we got
- 4:59Speaker 2: into both. We got into the WAP video analysis. We
- 5:03Speaker 2: got into manscaping. So hopefully we didn't upset too many listeners.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I think I should clear something up, too, though. I
- 5:10Speaker 4: did not take my junk out at the club.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Just your pubes?
- 5:16Speaker 1: I just showed the pubes.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Just to be clear.
- 5:20Speaker 2: When I heard the story, I didn't remember the story.
- 5:22Speaker 2: But when I heard it, I just assumed you came
- 5:25Speaker 2: down to just above the eel.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, right before the black whale makes, would make an appearance.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:36Speaker 1: We cut it there.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you just brought it down to show what was happening. But,
- 5:40Speaker 2: you know, I think it's important. I felt like we
- 5:42Speaker 2: did an important public service announcement because I feel like
- 5:44Speaker 2: there's people out there who don't know and they need
- 5:48Speaker 2: someone to tell them. And that's why we're here as
- 5:50Speaker 2: Fake Doctors Real Friends.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, we also created a new segment called Let's Fix
- 5:57Speaker 4: Your Life.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that was fun. I think that's going to go
- 5:59Speaker 2: well today. Joelle, we're going to do that again with
- 6:01Speaker 2: today's caller.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Okay, great. I will give them a heads up. And also,
- 6:07Speaker 1: just a quick heads up for you guys.
- 6:09Speaker 4: We have Shea Serrano on the podcast today.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Wow, really? The best guest we ever had.
- 6:15Speaker 1: We're really excited about it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Donald, is your sweatshirt designed to look like it has
- 6:20Speaker 2: stains on it?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tie-dye. It's a gray and white tie-dye.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Oh, it's a gray and white tie-dye. Over the Zoom,
- 6:29Speaker 2: it looks like it was artistically designed to look stained.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Oh.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Well, no.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And I thought it was a nice choice. I thought
- 6:38Speaker 2: it was handsome.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's by Nike. Ooh.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Ooh.
- 6:44Speaker 9: Do you like Nike?
- 6:46Speaker 2: You know I love Nike. Look at these bad boys
- 6:48Speaker 2: I just got.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Fire. Wow, those are fire.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Those are mega fire.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Wow, those are dope, dude.
- 6:57Speaker 2: One thing I don't recommend doing, you guys, is putting
- 7:01Speaker 2: your credit card information into the Nike app. Because the
- 7:05Speaker 2: second you do that, and I did that with a
- 7:08Speaker 2: few drinks in me, you then don't really ever think
- 7:11Speaker 2: like you're really buying anything. It knows your size and
- 7:14Speaker 2: it has your credit card info. So you could be
- 7:16Speaker 2: like up late looking at Nike.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It's like when you go to Vegas.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Exactly. You know what I mean?
- 7:23Speaker 4: When you go to Vegas, and those chips look like
- 7:26Speaker 4: they're little candy, and you just toss them on the table.
- 7:32Speaker 1: The next thing you know, you don't have a home anymore.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Just putting it out there. Anyway, Shea Serrano is with
- 7:39Speaker 1: us today.
- 7:39Speaker 4: So without further ado, we should get into the show
- 7:44Speaker 4: with a little bit of a 5.
- 7:47Speaker 2: 6, 7, 8... About a bunch of docs and nurses
- 7:53Speaker 2: and a janitor who loved to hate.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I said he's got stories that we all should know.
- 8:00Speaker 10: So gather round to hear our, gather round to hear
- 8:04Speaker 10: our Scrubs Rewatch Show with Zach and Dono.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Hey now, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Shea Serrano.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Turn your keys on for thunderous applause for Shea.
- 8:20Speaker 1: He turned, sir.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Shea, we've had a lot of people on this podcast
- 8:27Speaker 2: since we had you, and I think you're by far
- 8:29Speaker 2: everyone's favorite guest.
- 8:33Speaker 7: I'm a solid 15th place finisher.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I know. People love you, dude. When we hung up
- 8:40Speaker 2: with you, Donald was like, oh, my God. He was perfect.
- 8:44Speaker 2: He was such a good guest.
- 8:46Speaker 7: Oh, you know.
- 8:46Speaker 3: That's because we talked about fucking basketball for 30 minutes.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And it's back. Holy shit. And it's back.
- 8:53Speaker 7: We finally got back together.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 8:55Speaker 7: Did you watch Dame?
- 8:56Speaker 1: I was about to ask you that right just now. Dude,
- 9:01Speaker 1: Dame dollar, Dame time. Let's go.
- 9:03Speaker 7: What a fucking champion.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Dude, he's playing like one right now. That whole team
- 9:07Speaker 4: looks good. Him, Nerdchick, freaking Mello.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Oh, Mello has been great.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 1: The crazy thing is CJ got a broken back and
- 9:17Speaker 1: he's destroying right now.
- 9:19Speaker 7: I don't understand.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I don't understand.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I was going to ask y'all.
- 9:23Speaker 7: How you can break your back and get better at basketball.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Right. He's doing a little too much dribbling for me.
- 9:27Speaker 4: He's doing a little too much James Harden when he
- 9:30Speaker 4: gets the ball up top.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, you got to dribble, Donald. When you walk, when
- 9:33Speaker 2: you move, you got to dribble. No doubt. And if
- 9:35Speaker 2: you don't, you get what's called traveling, and the referee
- 9:39Speaker 2: goes like this.
- 9:40Speaker 9: Right.
- 9:40Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 9:40Speaker 4: But he's dribbling at a point where it makes the
- 9:43Speaker 4: offense kind of just stand still and watch.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And sometimes he makes it.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Like the beautiful thing about Portland, and I can't believe
- 9:51Speaker 4: I'm saying this because I am not a Trailblazers fan,
- 9:53Speaker 4: but I am a Mellow.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I am a Dame. I am a CJ.
- 9:56Speaker 3: And i am a you're a blazers fan because that's
- 9:59Speaker 3: the starting lineup right.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Let me ask you guys let me finish hold on
- 10:03Speaker 4: let me finish the thing about that is though they're
- 10:07Speaker 4: a great one-on-one team one-on-one each one of those guys
- 10:11Speaker 4: will give you the business yeah it's amazing to me
- 10:15Speaker 4: that their team ball is in such good shape right now.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Melo has saved them several times,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and it's the same play. It's the same play. From
- 10:26Speaker 1: the top to the corner, splash three. Same time.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I love it.
- 10:32Speaker 8: Dame time.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Dame time from half court. Dame time.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Let me ask you guys something because I saw some
- 10:39Speaker 2: of this basketball on TV and I was just taking
- 10:42Speaker 2: in the whole thing with the fans, the projected fans.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You can spend money and be a fake fan in
- 10:48Speaker 2: the stands, right?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Not a fake fan.
- 10:50Speaker 5: You don't even have to pay for it. You just apply.
- 10:52Speaker 3: It's like fill out a little form and then they
- 10:55Speaker 3: pick you out of that.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Oh, I want to do that. Donald, we should do that.
- 10:58Speaker 7: You could 100% make that happen.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, let's make that happen.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I want to make that happen. And I wanted to know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: as hardcore basketball fans like you guys, if, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 2: obviously it's weird, you know, this whole bubble thing, but
- 11:13Speaker 2: if you thought the games were noticeably different, are the
- 11:16Speaker 2: scores higher or lower? Like, what's different without the fans?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Shay, you want to take this?
- 11:23Speaker 3: The presentation for the games has been outstanding.
- 11:25Speaker 7: It does not feel.
- 11:27Speaker 7: Any different to me.
- 11:28Speaker 3: If anything, everything feels a little more heightened because you know,
- 11:31Speaker 3: they're all stuck there. Like, I don't know if you
- 11:33Speaker 3: play like AAU basketball or like any sort of tournament
- 11:36Speaker 3: basketball when you show up at one location and all
- 11:39Speaker 3: of the teams are there just sort of wandering around
- 11:41Speaker 3: and it becomes like, like a very tribal sort of experience.
- 11:44Speaker 7: You're like with your team and only your team and
- 11:46Speaker 7: like we're enemies with those. It's been, it's been so
- 11:49Speaker 7: much fun to watch. I've been really, really impressed.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Yeah, not only that, what I really enjoy is that
- 11:54Speaker 4: there's no such thing as home court advantage now.
- 11:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 11:58Speaker 6: Right?
- 11:59Speaker 1: I love that.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I love the fact that everybody's playing on neutral ground.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Sorry, again, I'm the voice of people that don't follow
- 12:06Speaker 2: sports at all. So a team with a diehard fan
- 12:10Speaker 2: base would genuinely have an advantage, right? Absolutely.
- 12:13Speaker 1: They're loud.
- 12:15Speaker 4: They're loud, they're rooting you on, and so you're feeling
- 12:18Speaker 4: that energy while you're playing. Like, I remember I played
- 12:20Speaker 4: in this thing called the, I talk about this all
- 12:22Speaker 4: the time, I played in this thing called the NBA
- 12:23Speaker 4: Entertainment League, and we made it to the conference finals
- 12:26Speaker 4: one year. And, you know, it's a neutral, it was
- 12:30Speaker 4: pretty much played on the same court. And the only
- 12:33Speaker 4: time you would have, you know, fans there was when
- 12:36Speaker 4: you bought your family. So if I bought my girlfriend...
- 12:39Speaker 4: At the time, she would be cheering for me. So
- 12:42Speaker 4: in the conference finals, we played against Jamie Foxx's team, right?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:48Speaker 4: And Jamie, being the genius that he is, he was like,
- 12:51Speaker 4: let's pack the stands with nothing.
- 12:55Speaker 2: But our friends.
- 12:57Speaker 7: You know what I mean?
- 12:58Speaker 1: I love it.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And so, you know, it seems like it's a regular game.
- 13:02Speaker 4: I look up into the stands, I'm like, wow, it's
- 13:04Speaker 4: packed in here today, but that's normal.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You know, it's two... high profile teams in the league
- 13:09Speaker 1: playing against each other where, you know, my team had
- 13:12Speaker 1: a bunch of celebrities on it. Jamie Foxx was on
- 13:15Speaker 1: the other team. You know what I mean?
- 13:17Speaker 4: And so it was like, okay, I get it. People
- 13:20Speaker 4: want to see us ball. And we come out and
- 13:23Speaker 4: we're doing warmups and everything like that. And then the
- 13:26Speaker 4: game starts. And it's clear that everybody's there for Jamie's team.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Like everybody's there.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And so the first couple of plays, I come down,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I pop a three, right? The next play, I come down,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I pop another three and everybody in the crowd's like, oh,
- 13:45Speaker 1: it's kind of silent.
- 13:46Speaker 4: And I'm screaming at my team, let's go. And then
- 13:50Speaker 4: Jamie's team starts to score. And they're freaking cheering for them.
- 13:55Speaker 4: And then they're chanting, here we go Spurs. Let's go Spurs.
- 13:59Speaker 4: And I'm like, what the fuck is going on here?
- 14:02Speaker 3: And I looked up and there was a girl.
- 14:05Speaker 1: You were toast.
- 14:06Speaker 4: I knew we were toast because I looked up into
- 14:07Speaker 4: the stands and there was a girl that I.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Used to date.
- 14:10Speaker 4: And she was in the stands rooting for Jamie Foxx's team.
- 14:13Speaker 4: And when she saw me look at her, I looked
- 14:15Speaker 4: at her like, what the fuck are you doing? She
- 14:17Speaker 4: shrugged like, sorry.
- 14:19Speaker 7: That's excellent. One of my favorite things about any time
- 14:25Speaker 7: you talk.
- 14:25Speaker 3: To somebody about basketball who plays basketball, and inevitably they
- 14:28Speaker 3: would tell you a story about a game they played at.
- 14:30Speaker 3: As soon as they start talking, they do what Donald
- 14:32Speaker 3: just did with the– like.
- 14:34Speaker 7: We mimicked the dribbling.
- 14:35Speaker 5: They start doing this every time.
- 14:37Speaker 7: It's my favorite thing.
- 14:40Speaker 1: The shoulder shake.
- 14:41Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Everybody got a little bit of dream in them. Everybody
- 14:44Speaker 4: got a little Akeem the dream in them.
- 14:45Speaker 3: That's how you know the story is about to get good,
- 14:47Speaker 3: when they do that move right there. Okay.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Are they filming the games any differently? I thought Bill
- 14:53Speaker 2: Lawrence said something to me about they're doing some experimental
- 14:57Speaker 2: way of shooting it to make it more exciting, or
- 14:59Speaker 2: am I wrong?
- 15:00Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 15:01Speaker 3: They brought back this camera view that they had at
- 15:04Speaker 3: the All-Star game about 15 or 18 years ago, where
- 15:07Speaker 3: it's basically court level, and it moves back and forth,
- 15:10Speaker 3: and you can watch it that way.
- 15:12Speaker 7: So they show that one every once in a while.
- 15:13Speaker 7: But generally... Oh, it looks the same.
- 15:16Speaker 2: It feels the same. It's really, really well done. So
- 15:18Speaker 2: this sport, as far as team sports, it seems like,
- 15:21Speaker 2: am I right that the NBA has handled this the best?
- 15:25Speaker 1: As far as COVID goes, absolutely.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Baseball shut down fucking two days in or whatever. Turns
- 15:30Speaker 3: out this is a bad idea.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Let's be honest. Let's be honest. The NBA has always had,
- 15:36Speaker 1: in my opinion, the best commissioner.
- 15:38Speaker 7: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:40Speaker 4: From Stern to Silver. Ever since Stern took over, the
- 15:44Speaker 4: best commissioner. who actually cares for the league's players. Not
- 15:50Speaker 4: to say that Goodell and whoever the commissioner of baseball
- 15:55Speaker 4: is right now don't care for, you know.
- 15:57Speaker 7: Oh, I think you could say Goodell doesn't care.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I didn't want to put that out there.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I didn't want to put that out there, but you did.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But, you know, Adam Silver is by far the best...
- 16:15Speaker 1: commissioner in sports right now. Outstanding.
- 16:18Speaker 3: He's outstanding.
- 16:18Speaker 1: By far. By far. And the product that he's put
- 16:22Speaker 1: up on the television for us fans to watch has
- 16:28Speaker 1: made it so enjoyable.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So they all live in the same, they're living on
- 16:33Speaker 2: Disney World, right?
- 16:34Speaker 5: Disney World, right?
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 5: My World of Sports Campus.
- 16:37Speaker 2: And they, um, so they all, is there like, do
- 16:40Speaker 2: they all get to hang out or they're like bars
- 16:42Speaker 2: and shit?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Like, yeah, that's, that's been like one of the really
- 16:45Speaker 3: fun parts of watching all this happen. Because if you
- 16:48Speaker 3: follow any of the players on social media or any
- 16:50Speaker 3: of the teams that you always get, like these shots
- 16:52Speaker 3: of this group went out fishing together or they were
- 16:54Speaker 3: at the wherever together, just.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Sort of hanging out, doing stuff. There was a really
- 16:58Speaker 5: good one last night.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Mike Connelly, Mike Connelly, who plays for the jazz, he
- 17:03Speaker 3: had to leave for personal reasons and he came back
- 17:05Speaker 3: and he was doing his quarantine. And after the Jazz
- 17:07Speaker 3: won the game, Donovan Mitchell, who's been balling like fucking
- 17:11Speaker 3: crazy for them, went by and they were like filming
- 17:14Speaker 3: Mike through the window. And he's just sort of saying,
- 17:17Speaker 3: it was like a really sweet sort of tender moment.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Like, this is fucking cool.
- 17:20Speaker 2: How long do you have to quarantine? Two weeks if
- 17:22Speaker 2: you go home?
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think it's something like seven days.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Yeah, with Conley, he was getting tested while he was
- 17:28Speaker 3: out so that he could come back quicker, so I
- 17:30Speaker 3: think they were making him do, I think, like four days,
- 17:32Speaker 3: but it's usually a handful of days.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Rondo's going to be back soon.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Four days, I mean, I heard that like 80% of
- 17:38Speaker 2: symptoms show in 10 days or something like that. Please
- 17:42Speaker 2: don't quote me on that, and don't judge your life
- 17:44Speaker 2: on that. I'm just fucking recalling from memory. But I
- 17:49Speaker 2: guess if you're getting tested every day, it's different. I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 2: you would at least know if you have a test every, like,
- 17:54Speaker 2: twice a day.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Shay, welcome back to the show, man. We really love
- 18:02Speaker 2: having you on, and the fans love your insight. you
- 18:06Speaker 2: can speak way wiser about these episodes than, than Donald
- 18:10Speaker 2: and I can. We can just talk about.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I'm so nervous to do the recap right now because.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Shay, you got to see the new segment.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I know that Shay is like the king of recaps.
- 18:20Speaker 2: We should have had Shay write one too. So you
- 18:24Speaker 2: guys could.
- 18:25Speaker 5: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 18:27Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 18:29Speaker 4: <HAL> Cause then everybody would be like, let's just have
- 18:31Speaker 4: Shay do the freaking recap.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Donald, thank you very much.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I'm excited after Donald's recap to talk about the first
- 18:37Speaker 2: thing that came to my mind, and I want to
- 18:38Speaker 2: talk about it. I'm just going to tease. I'm going
- 18:39Speaker 2: to do what's called teasing, Donald, in radio. We talk
- 18:42Speaker 2: about something we're going to talk about after your recap.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I would not have the patience to wait around for
- 18:48Speaker 2: Carla if she was like, I need to think about it.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I need to think about it. I need to think
- 18:52Speaker 2: about it. I'd be like, you know what? You don't
- 18:54Speaker 2: need to think that hard.
- 18:54Speaker 1: We'll get into it. Let's start. Let's start.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I was a tease. That was a tease. Hold on.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Let me get my stopwatch ready.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I got to do it in 30 seconds.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Okay. Lick your lips.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Fuck you.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And I want you to look good for Shay, right?
- 19:10Speaker 2: And go.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Dr.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Cox becomes the storyteller in this episode, and we learn
- 19:14Speaker 4: that he's not the altogether guy we think he is.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Elliot meets someone who works at the hospital and is
- 19:20Speaker 4: surprised when she finds out that he is a nurse.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Turk tries to figure out what he's doing wrong to
- 19:26Speaker 4: make Carla have to think.
- 19:27Speaker 1: About his proposal.
- 19:30Speaker 4: How we're perceived by others, although sometimes it may be positive,
- 19:34Speaker 4: isn't necessarily who we are.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Getting to know someone and.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Being open to others truly is the only way to
- 19:40Speaker 4: find out who they are.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And that's it.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Beautiful.
- 19:46Speaker 1: But it's true. This whole episode is... And you know what? Shay,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know what?
- 19:51Speaker 4: I know why you wanted to do this episode. Because
- 19:53Speaker 4: this is an episode on perception. And this whole episode
- 19:57Speaker 4: is about who we think somebody is because of either
- 20:02Speaker 4: what they do or how they present themselves isn't necessarily
- 20:07Speaker 4: who they are When you really get to know them.
- 20:11Speaker 4: And we don't know this stuff. Like, the whole thing
- 20:15Speaker 4: with Cox and how, you know, we, from the beginning
- 20:18Speaker 4: of the show, you think he's, you know he has
- 20:20Speaker 4: some issues, but you think he's this put-together guy whose
- 20:25Speaker 4: strength is the fact that he's this alpha male. But
- 20:29Speaker 4: that's his weakness, it turns out to be, in this episode.
- 20:32Speaker 4: In real talk... He's a very weak man. He's good
- 20:36Speaker 4: at his job. He's good at, you know, he's good
- 20:38Speaker 4: at training these kids. But he's a weak, weak man.
- 20:41Speaker 4: He has real problems.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Don't you find like stereotypically the guy with the biggest
- 20:47Speaker 2: fucking ego and screaming at everyone and being just an
- 20:51Speaker 2: insane narcissist is very often incredibly insecure?
- 20:58Speaker 4: Well, when you say narcissist, yeah, I definitely feel that way.
- 21:01Speaker 4: But I don't look at LeBron James like, oh, man,
- 21:03Speaker 4: LeBron's a weak dude.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I look at him like, yo,
- 21:06Speaker 1: he can carry a team. He has the strength to carry,
- 21:09Speaker 1: to hold men up.
- 21:10Speaker 2: No, but LeBron isn't treating people like that.
- 21:12Speaker 4: And it would be crazy to me if when we,
- 21:16Speaker 4: when getting to know LeBron James, if he turned out
- 21:19Speaker 4: to be this dude who has a problem speaking up
- 21:23Speaker 4: and has a problem with confrontation.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And you know what I mean? These things would be,
- 21:28Speaker 1: it would blow my mind is my point. but I'll
- 21:31Speaker 1: let Shay talk about it.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty close to the reason that I wanted
- 21:36Speaker 3: to do this one when Joel reached out. All of
- 21:39Speaker 3: the very best TV shows are the very best TV
- 21:42Speaker 3: shows because of the relationships that they are able to
- 21:45Speaker 3: make you care about. Peggy and Don in Mad Men,
- 21:49Speaker 3: Jim and Pam in The Office, Avon and Stringer in
- 21:51Speaker 3: The Wire, Arabella and Pretty much anyone on I May
- 21:55Speaker 3: Destroy You. Because that thing, that interpersonal connection with someone
- 22:00Speaker 3: else is not only something that we sort of understand implicitly,
- 22:05Speaker 3: but also it's something that we all want and need
- 22:09Speaker 3: and pursue. And the more ways that a show can
- 22:11Speaker 3: press that button in your chest... the sort of higher
- 22:15Speaker 3: up the rankings that can climb. It's the same reason
- 22:17Speaker 3: that so many people respond to you two on this show.
- 22:21Speaker 3: It feels like you get to be a part of
- 22:23Speaker 3: y'all's relationship, which is very clearly a special thing. So
- 22:26Speaker 3: when Joel reached out and asked which episode I wanted
- 22:29Speaker 3: to do, I knew that this one had to be
- 22:31Speaker 3: the one. Mind you, there are some really great episodes
- 22:34Speaker 3: in season two. You have the Colin Hay overkill episode,
- 22:39Speaker 3: which I would argue is the first truly iconic Scrubs
- 22:42Speaker 3: music cue. Scrubs is the best show ever at using music,
- 22:45Speaker 3: and this was the first time we saw how exceptional
- 22:48Speaker 3: they were going to be at that one.
- 22:49Speaker 5: So you have that one. You have J.D.
- 22:51Speaker 3: 's brother getting introduced into the show. You have Turk
- 22:54Speaker 3: coming through for Carla when her mom passes away. There
- 22:56Speaker 3: are a lot of those moments, but I especially enjoy
- 22:59Speaker 3: this one because, A, we get very good glimpses of
- 23:03Speaker 3: several of the relationships in the show, and then, B,
- 23:06Speaker 3: we get Carla and Turk officially getting engaged, and that
- 23:10Speaker 3: Carla and Turk relationship is, I would argue, among the
- 23:13Speaker 3: very best romantic relationship portrayals that any television show has
- 23:16Speaker 3: ever offered.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I agree with that. I agree with that wholeheartedly, man.
- 23:21Speaker 4: And not because I was a part of it, but
- 23:24Speaker 4: their dynamic is very much similar to the dynamic.
- 23:28Speaker 1: That my wife and I have.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 23:30Speaker 1: I'm the immature one, and she's the one that freaking
- 23:33Speaker 1: grounds us. You know what I mean? And that's the
- 23:35Speaker 1: exact same thing that Carla and Turk have. I agree
- 23:38Speaker 1: with that.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I like that you were so passionate. When I reached
- 23:42Speaker 2: out to Shay on Twitter, I said, we want to
- 23:46Speaker 2: have you back. I hope you'll come back. We want
- 23:47Speaker 2: to have you back at least once a season. You pick.
- 23:51Speaker 2: And by the way, I said this to Shay before
- 23:53Speaker 2: I said it to Johnny C, before I said it
- 23:55Speaker 2: to anybody, any other cast members. I was like, Shay,
- 23:58Speaker 2: whatever episode you want. And he's like, within like five minutes,
- 24:01Speaker 2: he's like, it probably would have been quicker if you'd
- 24:04Speaker 2: probably seen the tweet earlier. But right when he saw it,
- 24:06Speaker 2: he was like, no doubt, his story, his story by far.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Guys, I have to pause you right here for a
- 24:10Speaker 1: special announcement.
- 24:11Speaker 9: Hold, please.
- 24:13Speaker 8: Interrupting Bill.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Oh, my God. He's got a new segment called Interrupting Bill.
- 24:20Speaker 8: It's the new segment when I interrupt your podcast whenever
- 24:23Speaker 8: I want and ask you a question that I can
- 24:25Speaker 8: then get to listen to the answer to. I hope
- 24:27Speaker 8: there's good music from Dan or Joelle. Guys, play this
- 24:29Speaker 8: whenever you want. Look, I love this episode, his story,
- 24:34Speaker 8: and I'm psyched that you two are there.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Zach, Donald, hey, Shay, hey.
- 24:38Speaker 8: I love that Eric Boghossian's in there because of his
- 24:40Speaker 8: relationship with Johnny C. I think it's got the most
- 24:43Speaker 8: romantic song at the end. I hope that song's still
- 24:46Speaker 8: in the online cut. It's called Question by the Old 97s.
- 24:49Speaker 8: If you want to talk about it, we actually started
- 24:52Speaker 8: with the song first in this one because we knew
- 24:54Speaker 8: we wanted to kind of have a cool proposal underneath
- 24:56Speaker 8: this music. But your question is, can you tell me?
- 25:01Speaker 2: There was a.
- 25:02Speaker 8: Joke in this episode that got us the most vitriolic complaint.
- 25:07Speaker 8: and an actual letter of admonishment from a national organization
- 25:12Speaker 8: that thought the joke was incredibly offensive. Probably more of
- 25:16Speaker 8: a stern letter than I got from any national organization.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Can you tell me what that joke was?
- 25:21Speaker 2: I know the answer. Can I go?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 2: It actually hit me, and I was surprised by it. Again,
- 25:30Speaker 2: this is a product of 20 years ago. But when
- 25:33Speaker 2: Kelso makes fun of Ricky Schroeder for being a nurse,
- 25:39Speaker 2: and he says, because you're doing a woman's job. And
- 25:44Speaker 2: I think that, I imagine it was the nursing association,
- 25:48Speaker 2: some national medical nursing association, or maybe it was the AMA,
- 25:50Speaker 2: I don't know, who said, A, that's bullshit and stop
- 25:56Speaker 2: perpetuating that. And B, there is such a shortage of nurses.
- 25:59Speaker 2: The last thing we need you doing is convincing men
- 26:03Speaker 2: that they shouldn't pursue this very noble profession. And if
- 26:09Speaker 2: you want to be a show that celebrates the medical profession,
- 26:13Speaker 2: you're actually hurting us by putting old, antiquated stereotypes on
- 26:21Speaker 2: the nursing profession. That's my guess. Dan, is he right?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Let's find out.
- 26:26Speaker 8: The answer is, when Paul... says Paul, the nurse played
- 26:30Speaker 8: by Rick Schroeder, says Elliot's embarrassed to date me because
- 26:33Speaker 8: I'm a nurse and I don't know why. Kelso's response is, well, son,
- 26:37Speaker 8: it's because it's a woman's job. The National Organization of
- 26:42Speaker 8: Nurses admonished us and sent us a letter saying that
- 26:45Speaker 8: we really set things back and how offensive they found that,
- 26:48Speaker 8: which I understand, but also I would argue that Kelso
- 26:50Speaker 8: was supposed to be that kind of old school guy
- 26:54Speaker 8: from a sexist era that would believe and say things
- 26:57Speaker 8: like that. That said, I'm not surprised, and we got
- 27:03Speaker 8: that reaction, and this is my official, I'm sorry. My
- 27:06Speaker 8: favorite joke in this episode, actually, randomly, was when Sarah
- 27:10Speaker 8: Chalk just throws away a very matter-of-fact sad thing, which
- 27:14Speaker 8: she does a lot. She's like, hey, I didn't break
- 27:16Speaker 8: up with Paul because he's a nurse, so stop putting
- 27:18Speaker 8: bedpans in my locker.
- 27:19Speaker 7: It makes me cry. I always love that.
- 27:21Speaker 8: Two other pieces of trivia. One, this is the first
- 27:25Speaker 8: episode that was narrated by another character completely. And two,
- 27:29Speaker 8: this is the introduction of another fan favorite recur character, Patient,
- 27:34Speaker 8: played by one of our stuntmen. You should be able
- 27:36Speaker 8: to answer this. So I'm not giving you the answer.
- 27:40Speaker 8: I'll be back in a few minutes with another interruption.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Oh, my God. He's going to go, first of all,
- 27:45Speaker 2: all right, he's going to need to calm down, all right?
- 27:49Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Bill, I appreciate the new segment, but
- 27:54Speaker 2: it was a little long, and no offense, and now
- 27:58Speaker 2: we're told there's more?
- 28:01Speaker 1: I'm all right with it.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Little by little little by little it becomes like Donald
- 28:05Speaker 2: and I are like just like five minutes of the
- 28:08Speaker 2: podcast is Bill just monologuing well since Bill brought it
- 28:13Speaker 2: up let's all talk about it because I think that
- 28:14Speaker 2: was something that was shocking and by the way we
- 28:17Speaker 2: can all address the fact that one thing the show
- 28:20Speaker 2: highlights and Shay you'll be able to articulate this better
- 28:23Speaker 2: than Donald and I is masculinity and stereotypical masculinity and
- 28:28Speaker 2: what that means and how Ricky Schroeder was playing this
- 28:32Speaker 2: guy who's very handsome and he's charming. And she immediately
- 28:36Speaker 2: looked down upon him because he was in her. She
- 28:38Speaker 2: was literally embarrassed to be seen with him because he
- 28:41Speaker 2: was a nurse.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Yeah. It's an, it's an interesting dichotomy here because a
- 28:47Speaker 3: thing that happens in this episode that often happens in,
- 28:50Speaker 3: in scrubs episode is you have two storylines happening at
- 28:53Speaker 3: the same time that don't seem like they're related, but like, philosophically,
- 28:58Speaker 3: they are related. So you have what Donald was mentioning
- 29:00Speaker 3: earlier with Dr.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Cox.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Very clearly, we get to see how destructive his masculinity
- 29:06Speaker 3: is in his life, like this sort of traditional, overt,
- 29:10Speaker 3: I don't need anybody.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Persona that he has.
- 29:14Speaker 3: We see the backside of it, and it's like, oh,
- 29:16Speaker 3: he's fucking miserable, and he has to watch his He
- 29:18Speaker 3: didn't even finish watching the game. He's got a stack
- 29:20Speaker 3: of pizza boxes because he thought people were going to
- 29:22Speaker 3: show up. Like this is a very sad moment. So
- 29:24Speaker 3: you have that going. And then on the other side
- 29:26Speaker 3: of it, the total opposite side of that is you
- 29:29Speaker 3: have this other person who's clearly an advanced individual, Rigg's character.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And like you're saying, he's smart and funny and charming
- 29:37Speaker 3: and handsome, but he can't get a fair shake either. Like,
- 29:40Speaker 3: he's doing the thing you're supposed to do, and people
- 29:42Speaker 3: are looking down on him. Here, we're sort of idolizing
- 29:46Speaker 3: this one character. Secretly, his life is falling apart. Over here,
- 29:51Speaker 3: we're looking down on this other character, and he's got
- 29:53Speaker 3: all of his shit together, but we just don't appreciate
- 29:56Speaker 3: what it is that he's doing. Right. Yep.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Shay, I'm so happy you're here.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I think we should cut Bill's interruptions. Just have Shay interrupt.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Bill will not like that.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Bill won't like that.
- 30:11Speaker 2: No, he wouldn't.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Bill won't like that.
- 30:14Speaker 2: You know, let's talk for a second about Rick Schroeder
- 30:16Speaker 2: because we, I don't know about you, Shay, but Donald,
- 30:20Speaker 2: and I guess I don't know about you in this regard,
- 30:23Speaker 2: but Silver Spoons was on my watch list.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Dude, the champ. Just let's go back to the champ.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Okay, the champ I never saw. You never saw the champ?
- 30:32Speaker 2: I never saw the champ.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think it's Rick Schroeder and Jon Voight plays the champ.
- 30:37Speaker 9: Yes.
- 30:38Speaker 2: And I know that Rick Schroeder cried in a way
- 30:40Speaker 2: that no one had ever seen a kid cry in
- 30:42Speaker 2: a movie, and.
- 30:42Speaker 5: It was heartbreaking. It's a tough watch. Heartbreaking.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Come on, champ! Like, Rick Schroeder, when I was a kid,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you know, it was.
- 30:52Speaker 4: So Rick had the show, and then when they introduced
- 30:55Speaker 4: Alfonso Ribeiro to the show, that's when I was hooked.
- 30:58Speaker 7: Why?
- 30:59Speaker 2: Oh, because they brought in a young, handsome black man,
- 31:01Speaker 2: and you were like.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Oh, go on! Well, yeah, you know, absolutely. As a young...
- 31:06Speaker 1: African-American male, it's always great to see... Well, I'm not
- 31:11Speaker 1: going to say handsome because that's up for other people
- 31:14Speaker 1: to decide.
- 31:16Speaker 4: But it's always great to see somebody representing you on screen.
- 31:21Speaker 4: So when they brought in Alfonso and he was doing
- 31:24Speaker 4: all the Michael Jackson stuff, that show became even more
- 31:26Speaker 4: to me. But absolutely, Silver Spoons, in my opinion, was
- 31:33Speaker 4: one of those shows that I would look to watch
- 31:35Speaker 4: because of the relationships that Rick had with his dad
- 31:40Speaker 4: and with his friends.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You know what I mean? This was this.
- 31:44Speaker 4: Kid who was extremely rich and wasn't a dick about
- 31:49Speaker 4: all of his money. He was very much like, you know,
- 31:51Speaker 4: everybody come and experience what me and my dad have.
- 31:54Speaker 4: That being said, yes, I want to give a quick
- 31:58Speaker 4: shout out to Jason Bateman. who was the bad guy
- 32:01Speaker 4: on Silver Spoons back.
- 32:03Speaker 2: In the day. I forgot about that. A lot of
- 32:05Speaker 2: people don't remember this. Was that Jason's first part?
- 32:08Speaker 1: I don't know, but from that point on, he became
- 32:10Speaker 1: a star.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I think they even did a spinoff.
- 32:14Speaker 4: From Silver Spoon, starring Jason Bateman, where he and some
- 32:20Speaker 4: other dude would constantly play pranks on each other.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I'm going to go with your digression and say Jason
- 32:25Speaker 2: Bateman has had the most epic, awesome career. I mean,
- 32:28Speaker 2: he's started at such a young age and has done
- 32:32Speaker 2: so much great work. And now in this new chapter, directing,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if you're watching Ozark, but
- 32:38Speaker 2: his direction on Ozark is extraordinary.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And it's just, it's just so, you know, there's so
- 32:44Speaker 2: few people that can start that young and then, and then.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Go this long.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Oh, he was on Little House. That's right. Jason and
- 32:54Speaker 2: I made a film called The X, which it's kind
- 32:59Speaker 2: of a B plus. Okay. But I think you'll laugh.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Check out, if you get a chance, check out The X.
- 33:05Speaker 2: It's Jason and Charles Grodin and- Amanda Peay. And- Amanda Peete,
- 33:11Speaker 2: Fred Armisen, Mia Farrow. I mean, it has an amazing,
- 33:14Speaker 2: amazing cast. And I think you'll giggle at it. It's
- 33:17Speaker 2: a good thing to watch when you're home. We've got
- 33:19Speaker 2: to get a break. And we will be right back
- 33:21Speaker 2: with Shea Serrano and Donald Faison and Joellen Dale.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And we're back!
- 33:36Speaker 2: And we're back! Silver Spoons, yeah, I mean, I really
- 33:40Speaker 2: loved it. I thought, like, it was, I think every
- 33:43Speaker 2: kid dreamed of having that kind of wealth. I mean,
- 33:47Speaker 2: and also a father who was so young and fun. Like, remember,
- 33:52Speaker 2: there was a train. They had a rideable train that
- 33:55Speaker 2: would go through the living room. And I just remember thinking,
- 33:59Speaker 2: and there was a remote control that opened the front
- 34:01Speaker 2: door and there were arcade games in the living room.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And I just thought like, you know, it was clearly
- 34:06Speaker 2: targeted at whatever age I was. And I just thought
- 34:10Speaker 2: it was so exciting. And then they had a very
- 34:12Speaker 2: special episode. We talked about this once on the podcast before,
- 34:15Speaker 2: where back in the day when a sitcom would have
- 34:19Speaker 2: a dramatic episode, here we were on a show that
- 34:21Speaker 2: would have lots of drama, but on a traditional three camera,
- 34:26Speaker 2: you know, in front live and from an audience sitcom,
- 34:28Speaker 2: they would go, they would give a warning. They would
- 34:30Speaker 2: be like tonight on a very special episode of silver spoons.
- 34:34Speaker 2: We recommend parents watch with their children. And that was
- 34:38Speaker 2: the episode when, when Rick, they called him the Ricker,
- 34:41Speaker 2: the Ricker shot a deer. And then the Ricker was
- 34:44Speaker 2: really upset that he killed the deer. He regretted killing
- 34:47Speaker 2: the deer. Do anybody remember this?
- 34:49Speaker 4: I don't remember that. The thing that I remember most
- 34:53Speaker 4: about that show.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Is the theme song. Here we are, face to face,
- 35:01Speaker 1: a couple of silver spoons. Hoping to find we're two
- 35:07Speaker 1: of a kind. Making it go, making it grow.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Together, we're going to find our way.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Together, making a time each day to learn all about
- 35:23Speaker 4: those things you just can't find.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I think you should have gotten falsetto there. Can't find.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Silver spoons together.
- 35:36Speaker 1: This is when you go falsetto. You and I. I
- 35:42Speaker 1: used to love that.
- 35:42Speaker 2: That's a good song. So Alfonso came on as the
- 35:45Speaker 2: best friend, and he was doing lots of dancing, like
- 35:48Speaker 2: Michael Jackson-style dancing.
- 35:50Speaker 1: As all black people do on television shows when introduced. Listen,
- 35:58Speaker 1: we can talk about this.
- 35:59Speaker 4: How many times did I dance on this motherfucking show?
- 36:02Speaker 1: How about that? Let's go there.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Well, okay. In fairness, you're a very good dancer.
- 36:07Speaker 1: So is Alfonso.
- 36:10Speaker 2: And I think any performer that you bring on to
- 36:13Speaker 2: a TV show, you're going to go, what are they
- 36:15Speaker 2: great at? Let's fucking use everything they're great at.
- 36:18Speaker 1: The West Wing didn't have Dulé tap dance.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And Dulé tap dance?
- 36:23Speaker 1: Dulé is one of the best tap dancers in the world.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
- 36:26Speaker 1: One of the best tap dancers in the world is
- 36:28Speaker 1: Dulé Hill.
- 36:29Speaker 2: A lot of people don't know that. If I was
- 36:30Speaker 2: Aaron Sorkin, I would have been like, you guys.
- 36:33Speaker 1: We got to find a way to get Dulé to
- 36:35Speaker 1: tap dance.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I didn't know that about Dulé. One of the best
- 36:40Speaker 2: in the world. Speaking of tap dancing, I was a
- 36:43Speaker 2: kid and I saw Alfonso in The Tap Dance Kid
- 36:47Speaker 2: on Broadway, which was a tap dance musical.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Dulé Hill was also one of the tap dance kids.
- 36:52Speaker 4: That's how good he was.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Alfonso did it on Broadway. Alfonso originated it on Broadway.
- 36:59Speaker 4: I don't know how good of a tap dancer Alfonso is,
- 37:02Speaker 4: but he was the first one on Broadway to play it.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And then Savion and Dulé, I think, did the tour.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Savion took over for Alfonso and then it became a
- 37:14Speaker 4: completely different show.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Then it became more about the tap. From what I recall.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I could be wrong.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Don't get it twisted. I just remember as a kid
- 37:21Speaker 2: who loved Broadway and spectacle that at a certain point
- 37:25Speaker 2: there was a cable car that went across the stage. Like,
- 37:29Speaker 2: you know, big Broadway budget musicals will have some big
- 37:32Speaker 2: set moment where you're like, oh my God, look at that.
- 37:34Speaker 2: And their moment was like the cable car rode. It
- 37:38Speaker 2: must have been I'm imagining it's the 59th Street. What
- 37:42Speaker 2: do you call it?
- 37:42Speaker 1: It takes place in Harlem. It takes place in New
- 37:45Speaker 1: York City.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Well, I think he rode that thing. You know that
- 37:48Speaker 2: thing that goes to, what's the island next to Manhattan
- 37:51Speaker 2: and they have a cable car that goes to it?
- 37:53Speaker 1: Staten Island?
- 37:55Speaker 2: No. You know that weird little island that's next to Manhattan?
- 38:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Donald, you grew up on the fucking island. You don't
- 38:03Speaker 2: know where it is? Joel, where's the cable car?
- 38:05Speaker 1: It's on 59th Street. I know what you're talking about.
- 38:06Speaker 1: On the east side. I know what you're talking about.
- 38:08Speaker 2: And what's the name of the island it goes to?
- 38:09Speaker 1: I don't know where that shit goes.
- 38:10Speaker 2: I never rode that shit. Don't yell at me.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I'm not yelling, but that's like me. I'm from New York.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Ask me if I've ever been to the Statue of Liberty.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Have you ever been to the Statue of Liberty?
- 38:19Speaker 1: I have not been to the Statue of Liberty.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Why do you hate freedom? Why do you hate freedom?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Ask me this. Ask me if when the World Trade
- 38:26Speaker 1: Center was up, if I had ever been to the
- 38:29Speaker 1: top of the World Trade Center.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I'm going to guess the answer's no.
- 38:33Speaker 9: Right.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Ask me if I've ever been to the top of
- 38:34Speaker 1: the Empire State Building.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Have you been to the top of the Empire State Building?
- 38:38Speaker 3: No, man!
- 38:39Speaker 2: I'm from New York!
- 38:42Speaker 1: I'm from there! Have you ever been to the Roosevelt
- 38:45Speaker 1: Island tramway?
- 38:46Speaker 2: Oh, Roosevelt Island. Roosevelt Island. So, for those of you
- 38:50Speaker 2: who have no idea what we're talking about, there's a
- 38:52Speaker 2: little mini island next to Manhattan, and it's called Roosevelt Island.
- 38:55Speaker 2: And people... There's like a whole community there, and... there
- 39:01Speaker 2: is a tram, a cable car thing that goes over there.
- 39:05Speaker 2: And tourists often ride it, but also I think people
- 39:07Speaker 2: that live there ride it.
- 39:10Speaker 1: We should probably get back to the show.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I know, we should get in the episode. Sorry. We digress.
- 39:15Speaker 1: First of all, let's talk about the cold open. Judy,
- 39:18Speaker 1: fucking great pratfall in the beginning.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Yes, good for Judy. I love it when Judy gets
- 39:23Speaker 2: comedy because she always was concerned that she wasn't getting
- 39:26Speaker 2: enough comedy. And whenever I see her do a full
- 39:29Speaker 2: a pratfall now I'm happy because she nails the door.
- 39:32Speaker 4: She she nails it and she and and it's very
- 39:35Speaker 4: funny I was gonna say we already brought it up
- 39:37Speaker 4: but the Ricker joins us man And now we can't
- 39:42Speaker 4: talk about Silver Spoons because we already talked about it.
- 39:46Speaker 2: The Ricker was on another TV show for a while.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Was it NYPD Blue, I think?
- 39:51Speaker 1: Something like that, yeah. Or Law and Order, something like that.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Joel, will you look that up? Yeah. So he had
- 39:56Speaker 2: a long career, but.
- 39:57Speaker 1: He- But he was doing that at the same time
- 39:59Speaker 1: he did Scrubs, right?
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:00Speaker 1: If I'm correct.
- 40:01Speaker 2: So I remember that he was on a series at
- 40:02Speaker 2: the time. Yeah. And the diner I just thought was
- 40:06Speaker 2: interesting was our cafeteria. For some reason, they decided to read.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Do you remember this, Donald? That whole diner set that
- 40:14Speaker 2: we go to twice was built into our cafeteria.
- 40:18Speaker 1: For a little bit. I do remember.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And I don't know why they did that. They spent
- 40:21Speaker 2: a lot of money, for some reason, converting the hospital
- 40:23Speaker 2: cafeteria into a diner. And that's not something we ever did.
- 40:28Speaker 2: I don't think the cafeteria ever became anything else again
- 40:31Speaker 2: other than this time.
- 40:31Speaker 1: It became a diner. Well, it's the same diner with Sean, too, though.
- 40:34Speaker 1: where Sean gets real fat.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Oh, maybe they did. I don't recall. I just remember,
- 40:40Speaker 2: I just remember we, there's something on the blooper reel
- 40:43Speaker 2: that happened. I think it was a spit bucket or something.
- 40:46Speaker 2: If you can, if anyone's that curious, you could consult
- 40:49Speaker 2: the season two blooper reel. But I remember something happened
- 40:52Speaker 2: with this, this, this ketchup gag on your face.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Oh dude, no, I remember what happened. I remember what
- 40:58Speaker 1: happened with the ketchup.
- 40:59Speaker 2: It was a spit bucket.
- 41:01Speaker 1: No, it wasn't a spit bucket.
- 41:02Speaker 4: The ketchup gag to my face made, I said to
- 41:04Speaker 4: the camera, oh, now I know what a porn star
- 41:06Speaker 4: feels like.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Oh.
- 41:10Speaker 5: That didn't make it to air?
- 41:12Speaker 1: That did not make it to air. That didn't make
- 41:14Speaker 1: it to air.
- 41:15Speaker 2: On Scrubs Wiki, they mentioned that you can see the
- 41:18Speaker 2: little hose that's going to your fake- Go on.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Go on.
- 41:24Speaker 2: They can see the hose that's running to your fake
- 41:27Speaker 2: ketchup bottle that splatters all over your face if you're
- 41:30Speaker 2: interested in fuck-ups. You can see that.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Okay. Okay.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say something else.
- 41:35Speaker 2: No.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Also, I got annoyed with Turk this episode. Me too. Like, dude,
- 41:44Speaker 1: because he just keeps asking her to marry him.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's embarrassing.
- 41:48Speaker 1: It is embarrassing. Over and over and over again.
- 41:53Speaker 4: So much to him standing on top of a car
- 41:57Speaker 4: at the end of our cold open.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Honk for love.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Honk for love. And everybody's honking because they want these
- 42:03Speaker 1: two jackasses to get out of the street. As JD
- 42:06Speaker 1: runs down the freaking, runs through traffic.
- 42:08Speaker 2: But that was kind of cute, though, of JD.
- 42:10Speaker 1: With sparklers.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Well, obviously, this first time is to set up the
- 42:15Speaker 2: second time. And the second time literally gave me full
- 42:18Speaker 2: body goosebumps because I thought it was so romantic and sweet.
- 42:21Speaker 1: But where did you come from the second time?
- 42:23Speaker 4: Where the fuck did you come from the second time?
- 42:25Speaker 4: How did you know that was going down from a text?
- 42:28Speaker 2: Well, what happened? I mean, I have questions about how
- 42:30Speaker 2: that happened anyway. Like, so she said, come meet me
- 42:33Speaker 2: just as you're about to go fucking on your first date.
- 42:35Speaker 2: By the way, you didn't waste any time.
- 42:37Speaker 7: No.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Well, you know.
- 42:38Speaker 2: She was like vanilla or chocolate. I like that chocolate.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Dude. You know, I like that chocolate.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Also, he finished the chili dog in front of her.
- 42:57Speaker 1: He ate the whole thing.
- 42:58Speaker 2: I thought it was weird. So we're jumping ahead. So
- 43:02Speaker 2: let's just go back to sparklers. Okay. So I just
- 43:05Speaker 2: have a problem. And Shay, what are your thoughts on this?
- 43:07Speaker 2: The guy is, I just felt if it was real
- 43:11Speaker 2: life and I asked the love of my life to
- 43:13Speaker 2: marry me and she was like, maybe I need to
- 43:15Speaker 2: think about it, that I would really be turned off.
- 43:20Speaker 2: I would be like, well, why am I so sure
- 43:22Speaker 2: of this? And you're not. And Donald and Turk's technique
- 43:25Speaker 2: is just keep asking and asking and asking.
- 43:27Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 43:28Speaker 3: I think there are different versions of guys, but this
- 43:32Speaker 3: is very much a guy trait when she is telling
- 43:35Speaker 3: you exactly what she needs right now.
- 43:37Speaker 5: I just need some space.
- 43:38Speaker 3: And you are like, that's not actually what you need.
- 43:40Speaker 3: What you need is me to just figure out a
- 43:42Speaker 3: way to say this differently and bigger and better. And
- 43:45Speaker 3: I can prove to you how much I love you.
- 43:47Speaker 3: And that's a thing that a lot of guys do.
- 43:51Speaker 3: But you get the sense that somebody like Turk in
- 43:54Speaker 3: the show, who is very used to his whole life
- 43:57Speaker 3: having to Either A, fight for something a little bit
- 44:00Speaker 3: harder than everybody else is having to fight for, or B,
- 44:02Speaker 3: just wanting to win at every single thing he participates in,
- 44:06Speaker 3: which is another thing we see in the show. It
- 44:09Speaker 3: would make sense that he would react this way to
- 44:11Speaker 3: this particular thing.
- 44:14Speaker 2: That's a good point. He turns it into an athletic competition.
- 44:18Speaker 2: He's like, I'm going to do a bigger and better proposal.
- 44:21Speaker 2: This time I'm going to stand on a car.
- 44:24Speaker 4: In real life, when I met my wife after Zach
- 44:28Speaker 4: you know, stepped to her and said, you know, he
- 44:31Speaker 4: likes you, I would run into her over and over again.
- 44:35Speaker 4: And every time I ran into her, I would ask
- 44:37Speaker 4: for her number. And she would do something that Carla's doing. Like,
- 44:43Speaker 4: Carla's not saying no. She's just saying, give me time.
- 44:47Speaker 4: And my wife, now my wife, before, I would ask
- 44:51Speaker 4: her out every time I saw her.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Let me just get that number.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Why don't you give me that number?
- 44:56Speaker 2: What would she say?
- 44:57Speaker 4: She'd be like, She would be like, this is the
- 45:00Speaker 4: fucked up shit. She would be like, not this time.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Probably next time I see you, I'll give it. So
- 45:06Speaker 4: it meant, okay, so not this time. So now I'm
- 45:09Speaker 4: trying to figure out new ways. And she would do
- 45:11Speaker 4: things where it would be like, I'd be out and
- 45:14Speaker 4: about with a girl, and she'd come up to me
- 45:16Speaker 4: and be like, hey, how's it going? And I'd forget
- 45:18Speaker 4: about the girl and be like, oh, shit.
- 45:21Speaker 2: How are you doing?
- 45:22Speaker 1: Let's go out on a date. Forget this, girl.
- 45:26Speaker 4: I'm really into you. And she'd be like, not this time.
- 45:30Speaker 4: But next time you ask me, I'll probably give it
- 45:32Speaker 4: to you.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Every time you talk about Casey, I love her more.
- 45:37Speaker 1: She's so tough.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Yo, her game is tight. And then just like Turk,
- 45:43Speaker 4: Turk goes, you know what? I'm done doing this shit.
- 45:46Speaker 4: This is some bullshit. I've jumped through hoops enough. I'm
- 45:51Speaker 4: no longer going to do it. Then she accepts the proposal.
- 45:54Speaker 4: And the same thing with my wife. I finally said,
- 45:58Speaker 4: you know what? I'm not going to pursue this anymore.
- 46:02Speaker 4: She's playing me like I'm a freaking, like I'm lotto,
- 46:05Speaker 4: like I'm the lottery. So I'm not going to, I'm
- 46:08Speaker 4: not going to push her anymore. And she comes back
- 46:11Speaker 4: at me and she's like, hey, how's it going? And
- 46:13Speaker 4: I remember it was me, you, the girl you were
- 46:16Speaker 4: dating at the time, and Josh Radin. We were at Hyde.
- 46:19Speaker 4: And she goes, hey, how's it going? And I look
- 46:21Speaker 4: up and I go, hey, how's it going? And I
- 46:23Speaker 4: go back to our company. We were talking.
- 46:25Speaker 1: And she goes, oh, shit. Well, you know, I was
- 46:28Speaker 1: going to give you my number, but I guess now
- 46:30Speaker 1: I won't.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Oh, but don't you think? But come on, buddy. Don't
- 46:32Speaker 2: you think the only reason she flipped was because now
- 46:34Speaker 2: you gave her the cold shoulder? And she was like, what, bro?
- 46:37Speaker 4: But I think that's why Carla flipped also. She was
- 46:39Speaker 4: asking for the space. And then Turk finally gives her
- 46:41Speaker 4: the space. And she's like, well, OK, I need him
- 46:44Speaker 4: in my life. I'm realizing right now I want him
- 46:47Speaker 4: in my life. The fact that I don't know that
- 46:49Speaker 4: he's not working today. is a big deal for me
- 46:52Speaker 4: because I know everything about the guy. And so therefore,
- 46:57Speaker 4: oh shit, what am I doing? This dude just asked
- 47:00Speaker 4: me to marry him and this is what I've always wanted.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Fuck yeah, I want to marry you. And that's when
- 47:04Speaker 4: the switch happened.
- 47:05Speaker 1: The switch happened when she realized, oh shit, there's a
- 47:08Speaker 1: possibility he might not be around for me anymore.
- 47:11Speaker 2: It's amazing how people quickly change when we shift who
- 47:17Speaker 2: we're being. Like the second you know, it's like a
- 47:20Speaker 2: game of ping pong and I'm hitting like this, I'm
- 47:22Speaker 2: hitting like this, I'm hitting like this. The second I
- 47:25Speaker 2: do something completely different and put spin on it, you
- 47:27Speaker 2: then have to react and do it differently. And it's just,
- 47:29Speaker 2: I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's interesting in
- 47:31Speaker 2: just in human relationships, how we get stuck in this rut.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I'm being, Turk's being this way, he's being this way,
- 47:36Speaker 2: he's being this way. All of a sudden he just
- 47:38Speaker 2: shifts like, and then she has to shift to react.
- 47:42Speaker 2: I mean, it's a very powerful communications tool that I
- 47:46Speaker 2: don't know that we knowingly marshal enough. You know what
- 47:50Speaker 2: I mean? Like it's it's like all you needed was
- 47:53Speaker 2: to stop being so desperate. And then she shifted.
- 47:56Speaker 3: I think he needed to not only did he need
- 47:58Speaker 3: to give her the space, but it needed to happen
- 48:01Speaker 3: in the way that it happened, because I think that
- 48:03Speaker 3: that's what sort of jogs her memory and allows her
- 48:07Speaker 3: to connect everything back to like, oh, this is like
- 48:09Speaker 3: a fear I have because of a thing that happened
- 48:11Speaker 3: in my past. You know what I'm saying? This is
- 48:13Speaker 3: not just like, oh, I just need for him to
- 48:15Speaker 3: not be available for him or for a few minutes.
- 48:17Speaker 3: This is more, I have a thing in my head
- 48:19Speaker 3: that I need to work my way through. And by
- 48:21Speaker 3: him acting the way that he did, it finally helped
- 48:23Speaker 3: her figure out exactly what it was that she wanted
- 48:26Speaker 3: and what it was that she, that she needed. You know,
- 48:28Speaker 3: it was less about just like, I'm just not going
- 48:30Speaker 3: to be here anymore. It was more about all of
- 48:31Speaker 3: the other parts of it, what that all meant. And
- 48:34Speaker 3: then him finally like breaking away and then her realizing, oh,
- 48:38Speaker 3: this is because of like my own things that I
- 48:40Speaker 3: have going on.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Not because of him. Cause that's like a thing. He
- 48:42Speaker 5: keeps trying to figure out like what it is about.
- 48:44Speaker 5: Is it about me?
- 48:45Speaker 3: Is it because you don't like this? is because you
- 48:46Speaker 3: don't like that. And it turns out it was not
- 48:48Speaker 3: any of those things. It was like her own stuff
- 48:51Speaker 3: that she had to wrestle with first.
- 48:53Speaker 7: Right.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Donald, when Casey finally gave in and went on a
- 48:57Speaker 2: date with you, did you guys click right away?
- 49:02Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that was the thing. So you know me,
- 49:06Speaker 4: and Daniel, Shay, Joel, you guys are getting to know me.
- 49:11Speaker 4: The type of person I like to be around... It's
- 49:14Speaker 4: somebody who's fun and enjoys moments.
- 49:17Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And I could tell.
- 49:20Speaker 4: from one dance with her that she was funny and
- 49:24Speaker 4: that she enjoyed you know just.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Moments living in the moment living in the moment right.
- 49:29Speaker 4: Was special to her and so I knew look if
- 49:33Speaker 4: I could just get this young lady out on a
- 49:35Speaker 4: date with me.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I will be I can be me completely.
- 49:41Speaker 4: And I think she'll bounce off of it. We have something,
- 49:45Speaker 4: there's something about that, that energy that we have, that
- 49:48Speaker 4: spark that we have, that's undeniable. And, you know, the
- 49:52Speaker 4: fact that she's pushing me away, but telling me to
- 49:54Speaker 4: come close is proof that she.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Feels it too.
- 49:58Speaker 4: And so from the first date on, we were to,
- 50:01Speaker 4: you know, I, we went out on a date and we,
- 50:03Speaker 4: and the next day we were together. And the day
- 50:05Speaker 4: after that, we were together until we got married. And,
- 50:08Speaker 4: you know, we've been together ever since, but, It only
- 50:10Speaker 4: took one date because I knew she's going to enjoy
- 50:15Speaker 4: what I have to offer. And I'm definitely going to
- 50:18Speaker 4: enjoy what she has to offer. And we sat down
- 50:21Speaker 4: at a dingy ass pizza restaurant that's no longer around
- 50:25Speaker 4: and talk shit about our lives. And then we went
- 50:28Speaker 4: to the dime, which was right next door to the
- 50:30Speaker 4: dingy ass pizza restaurant and ran into my old friend,
- 50:36Speaker 4: Jessica McArdo. That's when I knew I was like, this
- 50:38Speaker 4: is this is this has got to work. And she
- 50:40Speaker 4: was on the first date with the man she's now
- 50:42Speaker 4: married to. Michelle Paish was spinning. DJ Michelle Paish, for
- 50:47Speaker 4: those of y'all who don't know. Yeah, I just knew.
- 50:50Speaker 4: I knew that once we hung out, I knew that
- 50:52Speaker 4: we would have a lot of fun together.
- 50:54Speaker 1: So, yeah, we clicked. As Forrest Gump would say, we
- 50:58Speaker 1: were like peas and carrots. You know what I mean?
- 51:00Speaker 1: Right away.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Peas and carrots. Let's talk about Johnny C. taking over
- 51:06Speaker 2: the voiceover. So this was the first time this has
- 51:08Speaker 2: ever happened. happened, and the first time a title of
- 51:12Speaker 2: the show has moved from my such and such to
- 51:15Speaker 2: his story or her story or what have you. And
- 51:20Speaker 2: Bill establishing the convention of when it does happen, the
- 51:25Speaker 2: person is sort of tapped, and it goes into their body.
- 51:29Speaker 2: I don't know who the next one was. Was it you, Donald,
- 51:31Speaker 2: or was it Sarah?
- 51:32Speaker 1: No, I think Sarah's next.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Sarah's next. And then were you, was it once a
- 51:36Speaker 2: season that we did it?
- 51:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 2: And then we introduced Eric Boghossian, who, uh, those who
- 51:41Speaker 2: don't know, Eric Boghossian is an amazing writer and actor. And, um, when,
- 51:46Speaker 2: when Johnny C was on and he told that story
- 51:48Speaker 2: of doing the play talk radio, uh, where he forgot
- 51:51Speaker 2: his lines and he was late and, um, talk radio
- 51:55Speaker 2: is a incredible play, mostly a kind of a, a
- 51:59Speaker 2: major epic monologue by Eric Boghossian, uh, who wrote it.
- 52:04Speaker 2: And Johnny C asked him to come on and play his, uh,
- 52:08Speaker 2: his shrink in this episode. So we also learn that
- 52:11Speaker 2: Johnny's in therapy and at least trying, at least even
- 52:15Speaker 2: though he and his shrink have a very contentious relationship,
- 52:18Speaker 2: he's at least trying to do work on himself.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Cox is in therapy because of Jordan, though, if I'm correct, right?
- 52:27Speaker 2: I think he's in therapy just because he's a miserable
- 52:29Speaker 2: human being.
- 52:30Speaker 4: No, but I think one of the reasons why he
- 52:33Speaker 4: did it was to If we go back to when
- 52:35Speaker 4: Jordan says, you know, when him and Jordan are starting
- 52:38Speaker 4: to get back together again, when she walks out on
- 52:41Speaker 4: him after he was supposed to do the speech for
- 52:43Speaker 4: Kelso and he talks about Kelso like he's an evil person.
- 52:47Speaker 4: I think one of the things he says to Jordan,
- 52:49Speaker 4: if I'm correct, I could be wrong. He says, look,
- 52:52Speaker 4: I'm doing therapy now like you wanted me to do
- 52:54Speaker 4: back in the day so I can work out my problems.
- 52:56Speaker 1: I could be wrong. I don't think I am. But,
- 52:59Speaker 1: you know, I think all of the things that.
- 53:01Speaker 4: He's going through right now, at least the therapy session
- 53:05Speaker 4: that he's going through, was because of him wanting to
- 53:08Speaker 4: get back with Jordan. I would like to ask Bill,
- 53:11Speaker 4: but he won't answer this shit anymore.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Well, we have a new format with Bill, as you know.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Bill interrupts and goes on four-minute monologues. Okay, we're going
- 53:23Speaker 2: to take a break. And when we come back, we
- 53:25Speaker 2: are going to have a very thrilling guest. And you
- 53:28Speaker 2: know how I know that? Because Joelle is the person
- 53:30Speaker 2: that picks them.
- 53:32Speaker 1: And also, we're going to fix their life.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. In our new segment. And Shay's going to
- 53:37Speaker 2: help us. We're going to fix this person's life.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Shay's like, what did I sign up for?
- 53:42Speaker 5: I didn't know about this part.
- 53:45Speaker 2: We'll be right back. We'll be right.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Back. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Chris.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Hi, Chris.
- 53:58Speaker 6: Hey, guys.
- 53:59Speaker 1: What's happening, brother?
- 54:00Speaker 9: I'm good. How y'all doing?
- 54:02Speaker 1: Chilling.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 54:04Speaker 1: You got Shea Serrano, Zach Braff, Joel Monique, and Daniel
- 54:08Speaker 1: Goodman on the line.
- 54:09Speaker 9: I have butterflies in my stomach right now, guys. I'm
- 54:13Speaker 9: so excited.
- 54:14Speaker 2: I want the audience to know that you're wearing a
- 54:15Speaker 2: very dope Selena shirt that Daniel has already worn.
- 54:18Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 54:18Speaker 9: That was for Shea. I wore that for Shea.
- 54:21Speaker 5: I appreciate it.
- 54:21Speaker 9: I appreciate it.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Are you a big Selena fan?
- 54:24Speaker 1: I love Selena.
- 54:25Speaker 3: Every Mexican loves Selena. They play it at the hospital
- 54:30Speaker 3: when you're born. You come out to Biddy Biddy Bom Bom.
- 54:36Speaker 9: At your baptism, at your wedding, at your funeral.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I thought it would be I could fall in love.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Different songs for different.
- 54:46Speaker 3: That's later on in your life.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Where are you calling from, Chris?
- 54:54Speaker 9: I'm next door. I'm in Phoenix. I'm just right next
- 54:56Speaker 9: to you guys here. It's 185 degrees every day.
- 55:01Speaker 1: It's got to be burning right now.
- 55:03Speaker 4: This is 106 right now in the valley.
- 55:05Speaker 1: What's it for you?
- 55:07Speaker 9: Today is the first day in 45 days that it's
- 55:12Speaker 9: under 110 degrees. It's only 109 today. We're like, hell yeah.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Chris, can you even go outside or are you just like, no,
- 55:25Speaker 2: fuck it?
- 55:26Speaker 9: No pools are like just hot tea you can't even go.
- 55:30Speaker 2: In your pool i grew up.
- 55:32Speaker 9: Playing outside i grew up being like i can do
- 55:34Speaker 9: this but now i'm 32 and i'm like i i'm
- 55:37Speaker 9: so miserable i'm irritated i just two minutes if you
- 55:41Speaker 9: just go to your car to get something that you
- 55:43Speaker 9: forgot and you're like just the pissiest person in the
- 55:45Speaker 9: world it's awful.
- 55:46Speaker 1: You know chris you know what's trending today uh the
- 55:50Speaker 1: meme of me going it's so hot.
- 55:56Speaker 9: Everyone in Phoenix every day and I send that to
- 55:59Speaker 9: so many people and they're like people from Seattle people
- 56:01Speaker 9: from New York they got friends in Chicago and I'm
- 56:03Speaker 9: like don't even talk to me right now because it's
- 56:06Speaker 9: awful um.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Well chris welcome to the show welcome welcome you got
- 56:10Speaker 2: a you got a question for us all and obviously
- 56:13Speaker 2: including the legendary shea serrano we can all answer for you.
- 56:17Speaker 9: I do have a couple questions um one is for
- 56:20Speaker 9: zach here first which is the music because i love
- 56:22Speaker 9: the music so much and scrubs my first like partial
- 56:25Speaker 9: question is who is the jeremy k fan because you
- 56:28Speaker 9: guys use like three or four jeremy k songs in
- 56:30Speaker 9: the first season or two do you know maybe it's
- 56:33Speaker 9: not Zach.
- 56:33Speaker 2: There's a couple of, it's not me. I, cause I mean, I'm,
- 56:36Speaker 2: I'm sure I loved it, but I have to say, um,
- 56:38Speaker 2: the most underappreciated voice in choosing music was, was Krista
- 56:42Speaker 2: Miller because, um, yeah, she's one it's music is her passion. And, um,
- 56:47Speaker 2: she really, um, kind of took, you know, would be,
- 56:51Speaker 2: you know, I've said this before, what we would do
- 56:53Speaker 2: is we would just fill like huge playlists of potential
- 56:57Speaker 2: songs in the, in the, in the avid, the computer
- 57:00Speaker 2: we use. And, uh, And, you know, kind of grouped
- 57:03Speaker 2: by genre, like, oh, this should be sort of a melancholy,
- 57:06Speaker 2: heartbreaking thing. Oh, this should be uplifting and exciting. Oh,
- 57:09Speaker 2: this should be comedic. And it was about, and lots
- 57:12Speaker 2: of people would contribute like, oh my God, you guys
- 57:14Speaker 2: have to use this song. But I think, and then,
- 57:17Speaker 2: you know, you just try it until in the computer,
- 57:20Speaker 2: until you go, my joke with all the stuff I've
- 57:22Speaker 2: created is if it's an emotional moment, like I do
- 57:26Speaker 2: the goose bump on the arm test, like you can
- 57:28Speaker 2: play your favorite song over and over and over again.
- 57:31Speaker 2: But if it doesn't match with the, with the, with
- 57:33Speaker 2: the moment in the show, it, the magic doesn't happen. And,
- 57:37Speaker 2: and even a song you've been thinking about forever, you go,
- 57:40Speaker 2: Oh man, I really would have thought this would have
- 57:41Speaker 2: been perfect here, but it doesn't work. And then all
- 57:43Speaker 2: of a sudden someone goes, try this song. And you're like, nah,
- 57:45Speaker 2: it's not going to work. And they go, just try it,
- 57:46Speaker 2: try it. And you try it and you go, Oh shit.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Every hair on my arm is standing up. Some, some
- 57:51Speaker 2: little piece of magic has happened. But no, I have to,
- 57:55Speaker 2: I have to really be able to shout out to
- 57:57Speaker 2: Krista who, who I think was, you know, really the
- 58:00Speaker 2: most in charge of music.
- 58:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 58:02Speaker 9: And that's like, I think the Scrubs is the best
- 58:04Speaker 9: at is just matching the tone with the song you
- 58:07Speaker 9: guys pick. And then the follow-up question is, okay, Zach
- 58:10Speaker 9: and Donald, if you guys made the show in 2020,
- 58:13Speaker 9: what artists or songs are you using now?
- 58:15Speaker 1: Oh, let me tell you something right now. WAP would
- 58:18Speaker 1: be on the soundtrack.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Right now, Doug.
- 58:21Speaker 1: We'd be talking about that WAP.
- 58:23Speaker 2: I don't think it would be, Donald.
- 58:26Speaker 5: I think it would be.
- 58:28Speaker 1: I think it would be.
- 58:29Speaker 4: I don't think NBC would be like, you know it's
- 58:32Speaker 4: because of that WAP.
- 58:34Speaker 2: It's hard to run around with sparklers to WAP, but
- 58:36Speaker 2: I could try.
- 58:42Speaker 4: In truth, I bet you there would be a lot
- 58:45Speaker 4: of Ed Sheeran. Because that's one of Zach's favorite artists.
- 58:49Speaker 1: There'd be some Charlotte Lawrence.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Because she's the.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Daughter of the creator of the show. There'd be some
- 58:56Speaker 4: Olamide Faison because he's my brother and he's making music.
- 59:00Speaker 2: There'd be Tony Sebastian.
- 59:02Speaker 1: There'd still be Josh Radin, obviously.
- 59:05Speaker 4: I think the music still holds up. You know, as
- 59:08Speaker 4: much as those songs were new at the time, I
- 59:11Speaker 4: still feel like they captured every moment perfectly. So I
- 59:18Speaker 4: don't know how much the music would change. I still
- 59:20Speaker 4: think it would still be the same tone.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Well, there'd be new artists. I think it would be
- 59:23Speaker 2: the same tone, but there are, of course, now this
- 59:26Speaker 2: many years later, so many new singer songwriters that, then
- 59:29Speaker 2: I'm sure we would try. It's funny though. I will
- 59:32Speaker 2: tell you something that I learned, you know, when I
- 59:34Speaker 2: made garden state, I, I pretty much, you know, everyone
- 59:39Speaker 2: said I wasn't going to get that music. And then
- 59:41Speaker 2: I just kept trying and trying and trying. I never
- 59:43Speaker 2: gave up, never gave up, never gave up. And then
- 59:45Speaker 2: I eventually got all of the songs, but then about
- 59:49Speaker 2: 10 years later, when I went to make wish I
- 59:51Speaker 2: was here, as I was filling out the time, you'd
- 59:53Speaker 2: fall in love with the song and the editor would
- 59:55Speaker 2: cut it to the song. And he'd be like, Oh
- 59:56Speaker 2: my God, And then we'd have to check, like, okay,
- 59:59Speaker 2: where's the song been used? And then over the course
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: of those 10 years, we're talking roughly 2004 to 2014,
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: the convention of using music at the end of your
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: TV show to sort of summarize the end of what
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: everyone had learned had become so pervasive. that you just
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: couldn't find an emotional song that hadn't been used 10,000 times.
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: And we, we found like the websites where you can Google, like,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: where has this been used? And it would be like,
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Oh no, it was on Grey's Anatomy. It was on this.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: It was on this. It was on this. It was
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: this way. We can't use that fucking song. It's been
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: so played out. So it became a very popular trend
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: to this day. It's, it still is. And so it's
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: a lot harder to, now it's a lot more competitive
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: to find music that, You're not going to go, yeah,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: that's a great song, but I just saw it on
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: such and such a TV show. They used it. In fact,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: a little bit of trivia that dovetails with this I
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: saw on Scrubs Wiki. It says that the song that
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: ends the show that we all love and is so perfect,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: it's in an episode of the TV show Ed when
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Ed proposes to his girlfriend. And of course, Ed was
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: played by Tom Cavanaugh, who plays my brother. So, you know,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: this is the kind of thing we'd run into nonstop.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: you know, when I was cutting Wish I Was Here
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: is you'd fall in love with something and you're like, oh,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: I don't want to do something played out. And actually
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: to finish the point, the only song that's in Garden
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: State that's not on the soundtrack is a song by
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Alexi Murdoch called Orange Sky. And we didn't put it
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: on the soundtrack because it was on the OC. It
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: had been used on the show, the OC. And at
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: the time we were like, oh, okay, we'll put it
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: in the movie, but I don't want to put it
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: on the soundtrack.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Here's some other trivia.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Zach and I recorded Somewhere Out There, the song from
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: American Tail.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: This is how hard it is now. Like, we had done.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I forgot about this.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: We had done a Christmas.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: We were going to try and do Christmas songs, like,
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: every year and stuff like that. And so the first
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: year we did Baby, It's Cold Outside, which now nobody's
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: going to record ever again.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Well, maybe with altered lyrics.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Right, but that shit's a rape song.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: No, but I mean, maybe the song is so beautiful,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I hope that people will maybe alter the lyrics and
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: be like, baby, can I call you an Uber? I
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: believe you should. Baby, you've had too much. Can I
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: make sure you get home safely?
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: And so a couple of years later, we were like,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: we should do another one.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: And we chose Somewhere Out There Beneath the Pale Moonlight.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Oh, we recorded it? We laid it down? It was amazing.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: We laid it down and everything, and I played it
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: for a buddy of mine. He was like, oh, wow,
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: this is just like what Donald Glover and Daniel Pudi
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: did on.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: On.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: Community.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: On Community. Yeah. Which John and I don't watch.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: Right, which we've never watched, but we spent so much
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: money on trying to put this song out.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: We were like.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: No, we got a real producer. We laid it down.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: I can't believe we never put it out. I mean,
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: now we'd have to pay for the fucking rights to it,
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: but it was good.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. Anyway, so yeah.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Someone's thinking of me.
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: Even if some of you guys use the end of
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: this episode, it's great. It fits so well, the old 97.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: I think Bill sort of implied, you know, you weren't...
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: on the call earlier, Chris, but Bill, we had Bill
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Lawrence was interrupted and he, he sort of implied that
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: they sort of wrote to the song. I mean, which
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: was interesting because he, I think they liked the song
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: so much. They sort of made the moment around the song,
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: which is.
- 1:03:51Speaker 9: Kind of cool.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Shay, Zach, do you guys ever do that? Do you
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: guys ever write to music?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: You mean have music on?
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Like a song puts you in a field. And you're like, yo,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: let me get this.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: You go first, Shay, and then I'll go.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I actually did like a little thing a couple
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: of months ago where I wanted to write this short story,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: but I only wanted to listen to one album while
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: I wrote the story. And I just played this album
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: on repeat over and over and over again, hoping something
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: cool would happen. It was like a Duke Ellington album.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: But yeah, I always have music playing when I'm writing.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: It's never anything with words, though. It's always got to
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: be something with that.
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: Otherwise, I get too distracted.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: I agree. I agree with that. When I've tried ever
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: to have words I can't write. But there's times when
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: I want to set a mood or a vibe for
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: something I'm writing. I'll choose sometimes classical or in the
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: screenplay I'm working on now. It's funny. It kind of
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: just seeped into the movie because I was like, I'm
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: going to put on some Chopin music. just to kind
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: of like create the vibe, create the vibe with the scene.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: And then I fell in love with this piece by
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Chopin so much. I was like, well, this obviously has
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: to be in the score for the scene. So then
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: I was like writing into the scene on a dingy
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: record player. This song is playing. Yeah.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Lyrics.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: I agree with Shay. Lyrics would, would be distracting. Chris,
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: you got another question. Go ahead.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: We're going to hang out for a bit. Why don't
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: you ask?
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: No, no. He's got one more question and then we're
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: going to fix his life. Go ahead.
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: Well, so actually the story, about my engagement, which involves scrubs,
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: which is why I reached out to Joelle a couple
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: months ago. So my wife and I have been married for,
- 1:05:26Speaker 9: it'll be seven years in October. And so she's a
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: few years older. So I like totally relate to Turk
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: in these last three episodes. So when I was planning
- 1:05:35Speaker 9: my engagement, it was going to be our two year
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: anniversary in August and I had their ring and I'm
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: like super not romantic. I'm just so bad at showing
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: those kinds of things. And so I was like, how
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: do I, proposed without being cliche, but with like showing,
- 1:05:49Speaker 9: you know, a romantic side of me. And so I decided, uh,
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: that our anniversary was going to be on a Sunday.
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: And I was like, well, I don't want to propose
- 1:05:58Speaker 9: like on the Sunday going out to dinner. So my Christmas,
- 1:06:01Speaker 9: that was like very cliche in our two anniversary. I
- 1:06:03Speaker 9: don't want to do that. So I, and I don't
- 1:06:04Speaker 9: want to wait till the next day. Cause then she's like, well, shit,
- 1:06:06Speaker 9: this is over because two years and we're not going anywhere.
- 1:06:10Speaker 9: And so I decided to do it at midnight. And
- 1:06:12Speaker 9: so I got off work around nine 30, 10. And
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: so when I went to her place, I was like, OK,
- 1:06:17Speaker 9: I have the ring. How do I be spontaneous? And
- 1:06:20Speaker 9: so me being a dummy like Turk, I hid the
- 1:06:24Speaker 9: ring in her medicine cabinet. And my thought processes was
- 1:06:29Speaker 9: I'm going to ask her for some Tylenol at some
- 1:06:32Speaker 9: point because I have a headache. I'm going to make
- 1:06:34Speaker 9: this excuse up. That way she can get me Tylenol
- 1:06:36Speaker 9: at midnight. She'll see and be like, oh, wow, he's
- 1:06:39Speaker 9: the best person ever. I'm going to marry him. And
- 1:06:41Speaker 9: so what we do, because Scrubs was our show back then.
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: This is 2013. And so I timed it about four
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: episodes after the fourth episode. It'd be time to get
- 1:06:50Speaker 9: the ring. And so we're watching Scrubs. And then it's
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: like 1130. So we're almost finishing up an episode. And
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: she goes to the bathroom. She gets up to go
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: to the bathroom. And I'm like, yo, what are you doing?
- 1:07:01Speaker 9: And this is her place, by the way. I'm like, yo,
- 1:07:02Speaker 9: what are you doing? She's like, I have to go
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: to the bathroom. I have a hangnail. I'm going to
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: get the clippers. And I was like, no, no. You
- 1:07:09Speaker 9: can't get up there in scrubs. That's a rule. How
- 1:07:11Speaker 9: dare you? You have to finish the show. And she's like, what?
- 1:07:16Speaker 9: And I was like, you can't go to the bathroom.
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: You have to finish the show. You have to sit down.
- 1:07:20Speaker 9: And so she gives me this pissy look, and she
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: goes and sits down. And so in my head, this
- 1:07:25Speaker 9: is why I'm like, Kirk, I'm like, how do I?
- 1:07:28Speaker 9: She's not going to see the ring, because she's going
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: to be focused on where the nail clippers are, which
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: is different than where the medicine's at. And so I
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: get up and go to the bathroom during the episode.
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: And I moved the ring to where her nail clippers are,
- 1:07:43Speaker 9: thinking that I'm the genius. Like, I got this. This
- 1:07:45Speaker 9: is easy. And so not knowing that, I just told
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: her she couldn't go to the bathroom when I did
- 1:07:50Speaker 9: the same thing. So I come back, sit down, like,
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: all right, I'm good. 10 more minutes of episode. And
- 1:07:55Speaker 9: then an episode ends. And I'm like, all right, showtime.
- 1:07:59Speaker 9: We're going to do this. And I say, hey. Um,
- 1:08:01Speaker 9: you can go get the nail clippers now. And she
- 1:08:04Speaker 9: was like, no, fuck you. I bit off my nail.
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: I don't need to go to the bathroom anymore. So
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: I'm like, oh shit. Now my plan screwed up again.
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: And so I go, how do I, how do I
- 1:08:15Speaker 9: troubleshoot this? So the genius that I am, you.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: Turn this into something that did not have to be.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: It would have been funny if she was like, I
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: don't need nail clippers anymore, but now I got a headache.
- 1:08:27Speaker 9: And so I said I also have a hangnail can
- 1:08:31Speaker 9: you get me the nail clippers and she like looked
- 1:08:35Speaker 9: at me for like 10 seconds like are you serious
- 1:08:40Speaker 9: like you need me to get that for you and
- 1:08:42Speaker 9: I was like can you please get them and then
- 1:08:45Speaker 9: she gets up goes to the bathroom sees the nail
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: clippers she freaks out and like flams the mirror real
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: quick she doesn't realize what's happening and then she opens
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: it and I'm like hey Can you come out of
- 1:08:56Speaker 9: the bathroom? Because I don't want to propose in the bathroom.
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: That's a weird spot to propose. Can you bring it?
- 1:09:00Speaker 9: out of the bathroom and then i propose.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Dude you're so lucky you're so lucky that the handmaid's
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: tale wasn't out.
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: Yet i know i'm just.
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: So lucky like that's how our side of the trick
- 1:09:14Speaker 9: is like in the wine glass and in the coffee mug.
- 1:09:17Speaker 9: I'm like, I get this. It's stressful. It is a
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: very stressful moment.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: I love that you were like, no one gets up
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: during Scrubs. What the hell are you doing? This is
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: a Scrubs episode playing.
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: It's the rule.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Well, she said yes, I take it. So congratulations.
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: How long have you guys been married for?
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: It'll be seven years in October.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: It'd been really funny if she ended up saying no.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: That's the end of the story. She actually said no
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: after that.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: She said no, and my life has been horrible ever since. Chris.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: First of all, Chris, welcome to the segment of the
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: program where we fix your life.
- 1:10:06Speaker 9: I'm so excited.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: All right. We're ready to fix your life. Now the problem, uh, uh,
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: you have Chris could be huge or it could be tiny.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: It could be as tiny as, do you guys know
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: how to, uh, you know, fix a broken light switch
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: or it could be as big as help me. No,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: tell my wife.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Dude, fixing a broken light switch is very difficult.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: I think between, I think between all of us, Daniel
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: probably knows how to do it. Well, I'm saying it
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: could be minimal or it could be enormous. We can
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: solve it and we're going to fix it. And we
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: have Shay here who's way smarter than all of us
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: and he'll help.
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:42Speaker 9: There's a lot of brain power here. I feel that.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Well, this is what's called a free fix-it session.
- 1:10:49Speaker 9: Yeah, I wrote down a question.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I'm ready.
- 1:10:51Speaker 9: So my question is when I'm making a burger, whether
- 1:10:54Speaker 9: it's veggie or non-veggie, where do you put the sauce
- 1:10:59Speaker 9: and all like the lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles?
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: Put it on top of the burger, or do you
- 1:11:04Speaker 9: put it on the bottom of the burger?
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to tell you, Chris.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Donald is quite a grillman, so he's going to go.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Wait, hold up.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: I do like to grill, but I'm going to tell
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: you something.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I'm not the person to ask for this.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: I think me personally, I fuck up burgers all the time,
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: so I can't help you at this point in time.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Dano?
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: You seem to know more about burgers than I do.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: You honor me.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Why can't we? I want Daniel to answer, but why
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: can you not answer where to put shit on a cheeseburger?
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Because I fuck it up every time. So here's my problem.
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: There's only like two places to put it.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: There are a bunch of places to put it. So
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: he's asking where you put the sauce. So you could
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: put the sauce on the bun. You could put the
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: sauce on the burger or you could put all of
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: the fixings on top of the burger and then put
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: the sauce on top of the fixings.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: I fuck this up every time because what happens is
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: the way I do it, I forget. There's also, you
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: could put the sauce on the cheese or under the
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: cheese like McDonald's does.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: All right, all right, all right.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: You're asking the wrong person when it comes to burgers.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: Now I see why I'm glad you didn't answer. Daniel,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: will you have a nice, beautiful, succinct answer, please?
- 1:12:25Speaker 11: You're very sweet to say so. I think timing is
- 1:12:28Speaker 11: of the essence when it comes to things like burgers.
- 1:12:30Speaker 11: I think the longer you let anything sit, the soggier
- 1:12:32Speaker 11: things will inevitably get. With all that said, take the
- 1:12:36Speaker 11: top bun, put my ketchup, my mustard, or whatever else
- 1:12:38Speaker 11: you like, two pickles, and slap that on top of
- 1:12:41Speaker 11: my burger.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: You don't put lettuce and tomatoes and stuff on your burger?
- 1:12:45Speaker 11: Lettuce and tomato come in between. So I would say
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: in that case, the bun... with the sauce on it, ketchup, mustard,
- 1:12:52Speaker 11: and then pickles. And then I'll put, you know, the
- 1:12:54Speaker 11: tomato or the tomatoes and lettuce on the actual patty.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: And then. But I think it's controversial to put zero
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: sauce on the bottom bun. I like to give the
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: bottom bun a little love as well.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Anybody else?
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: I do not. I'm with Dan on this one.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: This is like, you know, the, the sauce is supposed
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: to be a, an accent and that's too close to
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: my tongue.
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: If it's on the bottom. I need to protect it
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: Joelle. There you go.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Wait, hold up. It's all going in my mouth. I
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: don't understand.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: I think that would be a good t-shirt. Joelle, it's
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: all going in my mouth.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: All right, Chris. I think it's safe to say we
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: have successfully fixed your life.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: You're welcome, Chris. Chris, you're welcome.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: You're welcome.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:13:48Speaker 9: I have a recommendation, actually, if that's okay for Donald.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Yes, go ahead.
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 1:13:52Speaker 9: I don't know how much, Donald, do you listen to
- 1:13:54Speaker 9: podcasts at all besides your own?
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I don't, no. But if you have a recommendation, please.
- 1:14:00Speaker 9: I do. It's kind of a segue from Shea. Shea
- 1:14:03Speaker 9: does a podcast with Jason Concepcion at The Ringer. And
- 1:14:07Speaker 9: Jason Concepcion does a podcast called Binge Mode, Donald, which
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: they do arcing huge pop culture stories like they do
- 1:14:18Speaker 9: Game of Thrones films. Harry Potter, but they have a
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: Harry Potter, excuse me, a Star Wars season that you,
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: I know, would love. They do, like, deep dives into
- 1:14:26Speaker 9: episodes and interviews and stuff. So that's my recommendation. And
- 1:14:29Speaker 9: I'm sure.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Chris, whenever I... Chris, whenever I.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Chris, whenever I try and recommend things to Donald, because
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: I know his passions, he ignores them. And I hope
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: that he will take you up on it. But I'm
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: the guy who's, like, scrolling through my phone because I'm
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: bored and I stumble across, like, A Death Star fire pit.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, my God. Donald needs to get
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: this Death Star fire pit. Doesn't reply. Doesn't buy it.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Doesn't even say.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: There's nothing practical about a Death Star fire pit in
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: my fucking backyard, dude.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: My kids could fall into.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: The Death Star. There's so many things that could go
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: wrong with a Death Star fire pit.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: I'm just saying that I'm sad that you don't try
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: out my recommendations.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Why is it getting so dark where you are, bud?
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: I got to hit the light switch. I got to
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: hit the light switch. All right, Chris, thank you so
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: much for coming on, brother.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Chris, you've been a great guest, man.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: Chris, you were a great guest. And you make me
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: want to wear, I don't really know the music of Selena,
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: but I feel like I would look cool wearing a
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Selena t-shirt.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Dodge that heat, yo. If you get the chance, dodge
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that heat. Do what you can.
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: I'm trying, yo. I'm trying. Yeah, man.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Take care, Chris.
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: Well, thank you so much.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I want to talk about something. Andy and Sean.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: Are in the group of doctors that Cox invites over
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: for drinks and wings and sports on TV.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Yes. So for those of you who, I'm about to
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: say for those of you who don't know, you couldn't know,
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: when they cut to Zeltser, when Cox is trying to
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: invite his friends over and Zeltser asks if there'll be
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: prostitutes and someone says no and he goes, oh. Good.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: The two men who are next to him are our
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: gaffer and our key grip. The gaffer is in charge
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: of all the lighting and the key grip is in
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: charge of everything, all the gear and so many things.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: So the two sort of very high crew people on
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: the set were a side-by-side Zeltser, the people that Johnny C.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: was asking to come over.
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: Also.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Johnny Castle's great in this episode. We never really give
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: shout-outs to Johnny Castle, who plays Doug on the show.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: I know. I've had a couple fans asking for Johnny
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: to have Johnny Castle on. We should do that.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: He does such a great job on the show. And
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: the crazy thing.
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: About the character, the character's so fucking annoying, dude. I'm
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: not gonna lie. Like Cox, he annoys the shit out
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: of me. But his arc at the end... is so
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: amazing and works so well. Like all of these fuck
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: ups and all, like Johnny Castle's gonna start.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: To lose patient after patient after patient. Each one of
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: his patients is gonna die. They move him to the morgue.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: But his arc at the end of it all It's
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: so worth it.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I think Johnny Castle eventually killed so many people, they
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: were like, why don't you work in the morgue?
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. But his character arc is so great, and
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: he becomes so confident at his job when it turns
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: into what it's going to turn into. I don't want
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: to spoil it for anybody, but he becomes so confident
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: that this.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: Annoying, nervous guy that pops up in... a few episodes
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: a season, when he gets to shine, he shines. And
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: so I'm really excited for that. I'm waiting for that.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: I know it's going to take a couple of seasons,
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: but I'm waiting for it and I can't wait.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: What do you think about Nurse Roberts' whole gossip run montage?
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: That was funny.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: That shit was hilarious, dude. Her jumping over the freaking
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: dude on the... She's OJ all of a sudden. She
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: turns into OJ.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: She's like OJ in a Hertz commercial. Yeah.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: How did that happen? And then....
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: What surprised me, and I want to ask you guys
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: about this, did it throw you off that J.D. was
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: still allowed to have fantasies even though he wasn't telling
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: the story?
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I don't think he does. He does. He's at dinner
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: with Turk. They're eating at the restaurant, wherever it is.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: He has a fantasy.
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: I think it's his fantasy of Cox hitting dude over
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: the back with the chair. and all of that stuff.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: That's a good question, and Shay might know better than
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: we do, but I always assume that when the person
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: took over the voiceover, they took over the fantasy too
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: but i don't recall do you remember that shay if
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: that's true.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Or not uh it's not exclusive to to uh being
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: the narrator of the show.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: No right because other people do have fantasies yeah i
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: was just wondering if it threw anybody off because when
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: i was watching it i.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Was like i assume that Oh, so you're saying that
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: was J.D. 's fantasy, not Cox's fantasy. Yeah, because J.D.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: 's talking about it.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: Absolutely. But I will say this.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: We all have fantasies on the show at some point,
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: and you're doing the monologue still.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: You're still doing the narration.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's funny. And there's a little funny thing
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: in that fantasy with Johnny C. And this is the
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: first episode with Johnny, the tackling Alzheimer's patient, who was
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: our sort of senior stunt coordinator, Ernie. and Ernie is
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: in the segment where Johnny also, not only does he
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: play the tackling Alzheimer's patient, but he's in the segment
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: where Johnny is hitting people with the chair. He's the
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: next guy over, which made me think there's probably another,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: he probably nailed him too, and they cut it out,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: because why would Ernie be sitting there? I don't know.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: You know what I'm talking about? He nails the first guy. Yeah, no,
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: he's sitting right next to the... He's obviously a stuntman.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: And then Ernie kind of begins to wince, and I'm like,
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: they must have cut out him nailing Ernie as well.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Here's another thing that I noticed.
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: What?
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: And I want to give a shout-out to all of
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: our extras that were on the show.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: We call them background performers now, Donald.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: My point is, shout-out to all of the background performers
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: because not only are some of them doctors in the hospital,
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: but some of them are patrons at restaurants when you're
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: watching this episode, I noticed. I noticed that a lot
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: of them are sitting behind... us when we're eating dinner.
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: But what's your shout out to them? They were able
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: to not only be people at hospital, you guys, they
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: were able to be.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: People at restaurants.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: No, my shout out to them is that we had
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: a bunch of people that really worked hard to be
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: seen on our show and create characters. And sometimes they
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: were asked to do things that didn't fit.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: Like continuity, when it comes to our background, It gets
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: better as time goes, but in the beginning, everybody was
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: trying to get in where they fit in, and this
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: is one of those episodes where I recognize, oh, wow,
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: what is she doing in the background here when she
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: was just in the background at the hospital with the
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: lab coat on?
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: The funny thing is that our go-to regular background performers,
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: I think we're very aware of where to find the
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: camera because Snoop Dogg's in the back of a lot
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: of shots of this episode. I saw Colonel Doctor. I
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: saw Beard Fosseh. I think a lot of the greatest
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: hits just knew where to go. They were like, I
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: see where the camera is and my character will be
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: crossing to that whiteboard.
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: Are you guys ready for Bill's final thoughts?
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Oh, God. Okay, Bill.
- 1:21:49Speaker 8: All right. Another interrupting Bill segment. No warning whatsoever. Don't
- 1:21:53Speaker 8: know if there's music.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: I'm okay if there is.
- 1:21:55Speaker 8: I told Dan or Joelle to interrupt you guys when
- 1:21:59Speaker 8: it becomes clear that Shea Serrano is who is a
- 1:22:02Speaker 8: big Scrubs fan and an amazing writer, knows more about
- 1:22:05Speaker 8: the show than you two, because I am interested because
- 1:22:09Speaker 8: so many Scrubs viewers actually do rewatches and stuff. And
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: be honest, Shay, whether or not you've actually watched the
- 1:22:17Speaker 8: whole series more than once, I'm betting there's no way
- 1:22:22Speaker 8: you watched it more than two or three times, but
- 1:22:25Speaker 8: Some people said you might have even watched it.
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: Five, six, seven, eight.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no. Hold on, hold on.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on. Turn it off.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Turn that shit off, Daniel.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Turn that shit off.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: He said he was going to stop doing it.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: No.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: He's disrespectful to the hosts.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: That was very, that was clever. Oh, clever, Bill.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: You know, I was on a call with Bill and
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: we were talking about something else and he's like, it
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: was very sweet. He was like, I really got to
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: come up with a new thing for, I know the
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: audience loves 5, 6, 7, 8, but I want to
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: shake it up. I'm going to come up with a
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: new bit for season two. Cut to.
- 1:23:09Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: So I got a question for you. Dude, do you
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: not know any Kung Fu moves?
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: I don't know who you are. Are you talking to me?
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I'm talking to Zach.
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: You say it about me because when I go, everybody goes,
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Kung Fu fighting.
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: Then you start humping the air.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Then you hump the air. Like you're fucking the air.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: That's a Kung Fu move. It's in the Legend of
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: the Drunken Master.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Jackie Chan does it. Jackie, you don't know me.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: So I'm clear.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: Wait, hold on.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: Shay, so I'm clear. Jackie Chan fucks the air.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't know fuck the air? No, I don't
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: know fuck the air. I don't know that form.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: I don't know that form.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: That was a deleted scene from Karate Kid. Daniel-san, fuck
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: the air. Fuck the air. It was right after paint
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: the fence.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: That's a really sweet moment in the show when the
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: therapist is telling Dr. Cox, if you have somebody in
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: your life who can get you to do something, that
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: that's a special person.
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: And then they cut to, we see JD.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: I really like when, when they tee it up like that,
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: when we gets it, whenever like somebody is saying a
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: nice thing about somebody else, but they're not hearing them
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: say it.
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: I just, it's, it's really, really great.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: Well, they cut to Zach and Zach fucks the air.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: And then the janitor drops in from the ceiling.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: You don't, um, you don't fuck the air when you dance.
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: You're doing a theme dance, first of all.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Right. My character wasn't so focused on Kung Fu as
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: he was about doing his best dance moves. He's alone
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: in an elevator. You know that expression, dance like no
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: one's watching? He was alone in an elevator, and he
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: knew no one was watching, and it was time to
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: fucking get his groove on.
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: That's his default move.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's probably my default move, too. I just do
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: a little.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: So let me get this straight. Go ahead. When Kung
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Fu fighting comes on, And it gets to the... Let
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: me get back to the right key. I'm supposed to
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: fuck the air?
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: I would recommend it, yeah. It feels nice.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: So then why all the hand gestures like you were
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: about to do kung fu fighting and then fuck the air?
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: Dude, I'm just being my wacky self, okay? Someone said, Zach...
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: I'm sure Ken Winningham, the director of this episode, said, Zach,
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: come up with some funny-ass weird dance move. Do you
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: want to know a funny story, though, speaking about Fuck
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: in the Air? I remember being a little kid, and
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: I didn't even know. What a pivot.
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: What a pivot.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: I didn't even know. I didn't. This is embarrassing, but
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: this is how much I love you, our listeners, and
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you another embarrassing story about me.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I didn't even know. I was too young to even
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: know about masturbation or really what sex was. I think
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: I just knew that the man and the woman got
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: in bed together and lied on top of each other.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: And I was already of an age where that was
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: titillating to me, but I didn't really know much more
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: than that. And I remember building a pillow woman in
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: my bed. And I was, I don't know how, I
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: must have been like, I don't know how old. I'm
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: going to guess six or seven.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I don't think my kids have any
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: idea what fucking is.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: No, but I'm saying I didn't know about it. I
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: didn't know about the act. I just knew that I
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: imagined that they lie on top of each other and
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: make out and the baby gets made. I'm saying it
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: was that innocent. But I remember coming into my, and
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: I literally laid out the pillows like it was a
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: woman in bed. And then I came into my room
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: and yawned like, oh, hard day at work, honey. And
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: I took off my clothes and I got into bed
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: and I laid on top of the pillow woman.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: And did she, nine months later, did she have a baby?
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: Yes. Pillow baby. That's how I had a pillow baby.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: But it's funny. I'm just thinking that there was some,
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: I think I had a pillow girlfriend named Katya in
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: this show. There was some joke. There was some joke like,
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: as I lay on top of my pillow girlfriend, Katya.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a thing.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: When you walked in the room and you were like
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: spending time with your pillow wife. Did you say we
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: need some romantic music right now and then kung fu
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: fighting is what you did?
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: I just remember that in my however year old brain,
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: I thought the first step to making love to your
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: wife is to yawn and say, I've had such a
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: hard day.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: That never works. That never works.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Oh, you've tried it? You've tried it?
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: Everybody tries that shit. Oh, baby, you wouldn't be, oh,
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: I had such a hard day today. I have so
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: much stress. The ideal thing to happen is, you know,
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: for things to happen after that. Usually you say that
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: shit and they're like, you know, so did I.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Fucking kids were a pain in the ass today.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Anyway. Let's talk about the ending, though, because I thought
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: the ending definitely gave me goosebumps and I thought it
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: was very romantic and sweet that you run to the park.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: You're still doing your weird run that nobody runs like that,
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: but Okay, I'll accept it.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: You're a hater of all haters. No, why does Turk.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Run like a cartoon character?
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Every action star has a specific run.
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: That's true.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Thank you, Shay. You want to see crazy runs, look
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: at how Harrison Ford runs. Look at how The Rock runs.
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: Tom Cruise.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: Tom Cruise runs. Every action star has a run. If
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: I were to run like everybody else, you know what?
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: It would be not considered unique. Just like every fucking
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: leading man has a fucking walk.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: Okay, so this is your signature walk.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: No, this is my signature run.
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: And I'll beat your ass in a race any day, motherfucker.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: There it is. I think currently I might be able
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: to beat you in a race. Currently.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: We could go whenever you're ready. Whenever you're ready.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: I'm ready. I'm ready. Anyway, I thought it was very sweet.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: The song is beautiful. And then they reveal JD running
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: around with the sparklers. And I just thought it was romantic.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: It was very romantic. I love the song.
- 1:29:15Speaker 5: Can I ask two questions?
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: One of which is directly related to the episode, but
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: one of them is tangentially related. When Turk is at
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: the bus stop eating the chili dog, he wasn't expecting
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: for that waitress to show up, right? Because she shows
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: up and he's like, oh, what are you doing here?
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: He just hangs out at a bus stop eating chili dogs.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Why is Turk at a bus stop eating a chili dog?
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Well, you have Malik, obviously.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: I obviously have Malik, but we never have established in
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: the history of Scrubs or again that Turk rides the bus.
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: No. No.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: I don't... That's one of those things that's just convenient
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: to make it so.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: And, you know.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: He needs to run into her somewhere? I can just
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: picture the writer's room. Like, where is Turk going to
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: run into the diner waitress?
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: At the bus stop. Okay.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: And why does he have a chili dog also?
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: Where's the chili dog from? I have no idea.
- 1:30:11Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: There's a James Coney Island somewhere nearby. Yeah.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: The other question that I have is... you mentioned the running.
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: Turk is running through the park to get to Carla.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: And I wondered on this most recent we watched, like
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: that happens and then there's an episode later on that
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: you guys will eventually get to where Turk, he's like having,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: not a crisis of faith, but there's very, it's like
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: a religious episode and he ends up running through the
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: park to get to a person who needs help and
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: he feels like it was Oh.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: We did that episode already.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: We happened already. That was season one. Yeah, you of
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: all people should know.
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: Is this a.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: Metaphor for a thing, or is this just a coincidence
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: that this happened?
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: I think Donald's run is so weird that everyone was like,
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: let's see him run.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: Let's keep setting it up.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: I don't know. That's a really good question. What is.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Why is Turk always running someplace?
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: Well, no, I think it's not that deep. I think
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: it's dramatic at the end of a show to see someone,
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: I mean, how many fucking romantic comedies end with someone
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: running to get to the person? I mean, it's dramatic.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: Well, yeah, when Harry Met Sally has a great one
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: where it's New Year's Eve and he runs up to
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: her to tell her that he's, I imagine that's where
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: they're trying to take it, where they're trying to get
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: it from. There's so many movies where at the end
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: of the movie when the guy realizes that he's needs to,
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: or the woman realizes that they need to be together,
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: somebody has to run to the other one's arms.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: That's all. I was curious about that.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I wondered that too. Hey, so we did it, guys.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: We did it. We did it. We did it. Shay,
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: remind everybody, for those of you who missed the previous
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: episode with Shay, shame on you. He self-published an amazing
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: book of essays on scrubs. And not only is he
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: an incredible writer, but he's very knowledgeable about scrubs and
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: they're beautifully illustrated. And we really highly recommend you get
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: them because if you're a scrubs fan, and I imagine
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: you are, if you're listening to this, you're really going
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: to love this. Shay, remind everyone where to get it.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: You can get it at a website, sacredheartgang.com. And it'll
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: take you right to it.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: Sacredheartgang.com. He's also written lots of other books and he's
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: a really cool guy. Tell everyone how to follow you
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: on Twitter. Is it at Shea Serrano? There it is. Boom.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Just spell it for people that can't spell.
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: S-H-E-A-S-E-R-R-A-N-O.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Follow Shea. If you're into Twitter, which is the hellscape
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: of the entire Earth, but if you're into it and
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: addicted to it, Shea is a great follow. And thank you, guys.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: This was a really good show, and I miss you.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: I miss you all.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: I miss you too, man.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: You know, I thought that we could end today's show
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: with my brother Olamide's music.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: Let's do it. Tell us about Olamide, Donald.
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: So Olamide was in a band back in the day
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: called Imagine, and they had a couple of hits on
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: the radio, and they did well, and they broke up
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: at a really young age, and now he's making his
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: own music, and- You know, you can find him on Spotify.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: You can find him on iTunes, wherever.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: You can find music.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Tell everyone how to spell his name because it's a
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: little tricky.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: It is a little tricky, actually.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: It's O-L-A-M-I-D-E Olamide Faison, my last name. And we're going
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: to start. We're going to end the show with one
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: of his songs. It's called Hey There, Love. And I
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: want to thank Joelle. I want to thank Shea for
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: being on the show today. I want to thank Daniel
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: for being the awesome dude that he is. For all
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: of those guys, Zach Braff and myself, this is Olamide
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: with Hey There Love.
- 1:34:05Speaker 10: Think again, baby, think again Thought I wasn't quite your
- 1:34:14Speaker 10: type And would it last me long that night well
- 1:34:30Speaker 10: I guess love had a different plan cause here we
- 1:34:35Speaker 10: are look at where we stand hey there love how
- 1:34:42Speaker 10: did we end up at the altar after all the
- 1:34:46Speaker 10: things that we've been through hey there love look how
- 1:34:51Speaker 10: we turned out who said happily ever after would never
- 1:34:56Speaker 10: be found Hate that love Hate that love Mistakes are
- 1:35:16Speaker 10: made in life But somehow things turn out fine To
- 1:35:23Speaker 10: think we had our doubts Only to find We can
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: live without each other.
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: Love has special ways to shine its light through darkened skies.
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: When it's real, everything just feels right. Look at you
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: and I. We gave us a try, try, try. Hey there, love.
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: How did we end up at the altar after all
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: the things that we've been through? Hey there, love. Look
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: how we turned out. Who said happily ever after would
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: never be found?
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Hey there, love. Hey there, love.
