Transcript
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Welcome in to the replay room.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: I am Sean Boyle, and joining me for the first ever episode of this podcast, it is Mr.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Ryan Amade.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Ryan, how are you?
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: I'm doing great.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: What an honor.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: My goodness.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: The first ever, the inaugural replay room episode.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: I'm pumped.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Glad to be here, uh chatting music with you.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Excited to commence this new era and to do what we love, which is chatting great music together.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Ryan, you pretty much summed it up right there.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: For those that might be unaware of what we're doing here, if you couldn't figure it out based on the artwork of the podcast and maybe the title, we're going to be reviewing music, talking about movies.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Basically, we're going to be pressing replay and giving you our thoughts on some music that we like, some music that's popular, some movies that are popular, some TV shows.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: We have a little bit of everything in store.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: We're going to start it in a very familiar fashion.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: If you've listened to the Tortured Fans Department, you will know that we have already covered this album almost a year ago exactly when it first came out.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: So that's crazy.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: That was that long ago.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: It's been a year since we talked about this, Ryan.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: But we're going to be discussing Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving today.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: The reason we chose this one basically is because it's had a grip on me since it came out.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: This one has kind of controlled my life since it's been out.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I've seen Olivia Dean in concert since we recorded.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I think we have some more context to add to these songs.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: We have a lot more familiarity.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot to get into.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: If you haven't listened to the Torture Fans Department before, basically the running order of these episodes is going to be we're going to give you some background on the artist, the album.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about our familiarity with them.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: If we have never heard of the artist, we'll let you know.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: We'll be honest.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: And if we're very familiar with the artist, we'll also tell you that.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: We'll do a track-by-track breakdown.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: We're going to tier the songs after that.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: So we'll kind of save our four tiers until after we're done breaking down each song.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: And then we'll go through the four tiers.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: The four tiers are always going to be the same.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: It's going to be the fourth tier is a cut.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: I'm going to call that tier the knife.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: We're taking the knife to it.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: We're cutting it.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: The third tier is songs that are fine, that we're going to keep around.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: They fit within the album.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: They're unspectacular.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: The second tier is going to be songs that are good or really good.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: We really enjoy them.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: We like them a lot.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And then the first tier is reserved for those few that are great or elite.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of the agenda.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: We'll end things with a score, and then we'll keep the score in the archives so we never lose sight of where we kept things.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Ryan, I'm excited to have you on the first episode.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: I think we should just dive right in.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Are you ready?
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh, I'm ready.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: I it's still blowing my mind that this was a year ago that we did this.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, it feels like this album still kind of just came out the way that it has, like you said, dominated.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: So I'm very excited to get back into it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: I am as well.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I I simply can't wait.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And I thought it was a good place to start this podcast.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: So a little bit about Olivia Dean.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: She was born in Herringay, London, which is not too far from my beloved Tottenham hotspur.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: The bad news is she grew up in East London, and she is a devout West Ham supporter instead.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: So we lost a good one, we let a good one get away.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Which does stink.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: So that's a little bit of the bad news.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: But other than that, I have nothing but positive things to say about Olivia Dean.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: She started doing music on her own when she was in her teenage years.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: She taught herself how to play piano and guitar, started writing songs, was a little bit involved in the high school theater scene, things like that.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I guess my familiarity with her started a while ago, even if I wasn't a big fan a while ago.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: I first became aware of her from a song called Password Change, where the opening line is, I want to talk, but the football's on.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: And in the music video, she's wearing an England kit.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And I think that was the first time I recognized her.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I became a fan after that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: I've been a really big fan since her debut album, Messi, which we will probably talk about at a later date.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: But this album that we're going to be talking about today, Ryan, is her second album.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Before we get into it, how familiar are you with Olivia's work?
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I think this album to me was the intro at the time.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: You know, I think we've we've talked about this a little bit.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: I was not an early adopter, um, like some like some ball knowers on this podcast.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: So shout out to you.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: But this was my really true introduction to her.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: My my first song introduction, like you discussed, was um a song called Rain Me In.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Ever heard of it?
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Uh ever heard of it?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Uh I believe one Sean Boyle has made a declarative statement on that tune, which we can get into.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Um, but that was my intro to her.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of a collab, a duet.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Really like the song.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: But then when you, you know, about a year ago showed me this album when it came out, you're like, yo, you gotta listen to this straight up.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: And you know my music taste, um, and you were spot on.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: And then that has then forced me to go back, right?
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: And then to rediscover the discography um and some of the old tunes.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: And you know, we've discussed some of my favorites are some of the older tunes, um, which I love.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, and we can get into those maybe on another episode.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that was really about a year ago, was my coming out party for Olivia and my personal rotation in my life, and has been heavy, heavy in the rotation since then.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: We love to hear it.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: That's one of my proudest achievements in life is just sharing good music with my friends.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: It's honestly my favorite thing to do.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: So anytime I could do it, and I get the thumbs up from especially you as a man of a musical background with some good taste, it does mean a lot to me.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Why don't we quickly go over, Ryan, just for new listeners, if you are not a fan of the Tortured Fans department, you might not know our listening profiles.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I'll quickly say we're very similar in a lot of ways.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Where Ryan skews more into the jam band, I skew more into the girly pop.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I would say aside from that, we're very, very similar.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: I tend to like a little more singer-songwriter songs than Ryan does, but I think he appreciates them.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: I don't want to speak for you, but did I cover that pretty well?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: No, totally, totally.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: My yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: And even you, you know, you get into a little bit into the jam band mix too.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I actually do like jam bands a lot.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: I just can't play instruments and don't appreciate them maybe as much as you.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: But some of my favorite bands you could qualify as jam bands.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: And I think the biggest thing, more than even genre, is how we consume music.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Um I I when I hear songs, I I barely hear lyrics for the first five listens.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, I am listening strictly for music because that is my life's uh experience.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: I I grew up playing the drums, the guitar, I'm self-taught on both, and have a lot of experience um just just playing live music.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: And so that is what I listen to.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Lyrics matter, and the more I dig into stuff, the more I realize how good they are, how you know bad they are, whatever.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: But that is how I consume music, where I think you may skew on the opposite end.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I try to do a good combination of both listening for sound first.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I do think I prefer hearing good instruments first and foremost, but then I really do start paying attention, close attention to the lyrics.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: So a lot quicker than you, where you might listen to a song five times before you really take notice.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: I'm always kind of keeping an ear to what they're saying.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: So I think that's a good point to point out as well.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Let's jump into this one, Ryan.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: This album, The Art of Loving, was originally released September 26th, 2025.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: So quite literally a year tomorrow of unbelievable stuff.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: We mentioned at the top, this is Olivia's second studio album.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: The only studio album she put out before this was a one called Messi, which is also phenomenal.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I do think this one is the better of the two, though.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: The album was written and recorded in a house in East London, which was transformed into a live work studio for eight weeks in March and April of 2025.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: So I love that.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I listened to an interview with Olivia and she said that she had a couple of the songs prepared coming into that range, but she did a lot of the writing and finishing of these songs during those eight weeks.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So this project was put together during that time, and what a masterpiece it was.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Olivia has writing credit on every song, which we love to see.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I don't like when artists don't write their own music.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I know you're in the same boat.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: That is definitely a strike one and maybe two against you if you're not writing your own song.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: She is also not shy about tossing some credits out.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: So she tosses writing credits and producing credits to several people.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: The main name that is common throughout all of the tracks is a guy named Zach Nahome.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: He is one of the key producers on this album and has a production credit on every tune.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Julian Benetta, who often works with John Ryan, including on Sabrina Carpenter's Grammy Award-winning best album, Short and Sweet.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Those two are both collaborators on this album.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: That group also includes Matt Hales, Bastion Langebake, Leon Michel's, Max Wolfgang, and Matt Zara.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: So, like I said, a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but boy, did they turn out a five-star meal.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, yeah, we'll get into it, but my goodness.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's sometimes they say there could be too many cooks.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Not in this case.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: I don't think just the right amount.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just the right amount.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: The seasoning was perfect.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Let's dive into the track by track, Ryan.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: The first song is just an introduction song.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: It's a little snippet, but boy does it pack a punch.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: It is called The Art of Loving.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Ryan, give me your thoughts on this one.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, it's just is the perfect intro tune to an album.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Like you think about putting on a record, right, as an album is meant to be played, and you start with song one, and that is where it starts.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: And whether you're listening on a record player, you're listening on Spotify or anything in between, you start with song one.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: And to me, this song is the perfect setting of the table.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and you can you can almost use that imagery if you'd like, right?
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Of like this really elegant table being set for what is about to be this incredible feast of an album.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Um, and and this song, Art of Loving Intro, it does exactly that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: It it lures you into what's next.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Um, and not only that, but as we get into the next tune, it does a perfect job segueing into the first real song of the album.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: Um, which we I don't know, we could have saved for that.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: But uh to me, that is like a key indicator of like a really, really great intro song.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Is it lures you in, it's not too much, and then it's not this abrupt shift to song one, but it's this natural transition to song one, and and they they completely hit a home run with it on this one.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: So that's my take on it.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: It's an excellent, excellent introduction to the album.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: I think it's important to point out, too, to the listeners, I almost always consume music by listening to albums.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: I try to listen to albums front to back as often as possible.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: I love spinning records.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: I've spun this one quite a bunch.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: And the beginning of it and the table setting manner of this song, it can't be understated.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: It's so good at doing that.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: It gets you in the exact mood, not only for the next song, like you mentioned, the transition is so smooth, but it just gives you a vibe of what the album's going to be about.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: One interesting note as well, Rye.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Um this song, although there's very few lyrics in it, the ones that we do get are important.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: One reference is quote, gotta throw some paint.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: That's what Bell would say.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Something lost and something gained in the art of loving.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: And Bell Hooks, Bell is undercase in the lyrics of this song.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: So people may not have caught on that Bell is actually an author.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Bell Hooks is the author's name for one, Gloria Watkins, who wrote a book called All About Love, New Visions.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: And Gloria Watkins is from Kentucky, so shout out to her.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Shout out.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: And this book is very popular.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: It's obviously made its way to Olivia, but Olivia has spoken about how influential this book was for this album.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: The book, what's so fascinating is a lot of the key concepts of the book are explored throughout this album.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Some of the themes include love being a verb, not a thing.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Shout out John Mayer.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: Shout out our guy.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: That's that's a great line, but it's also something that's explored by Olivia here.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: It also talks about how romance doesn't need to be tied to sexual relationships, it can be shared between families and friends and society.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And I think that's a really cool way to not only set the tone in terms of what we're hearing, but also kind of tip us off lyrically with a shout out to the inspiration for this album.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Just the layers are crazy to that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, and it's incredible without those layers, but even just like knowing that in hindsight and and doing the research on that.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, just like it's so thoughtful.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: It's so incredibly thoughtful.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Um, and like you said, sets the table, sets the context, sets the mood.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Like again, just add it check, check, check, check for everything you want on this like perfect kind of like setup song.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just so tasteful would be the perfect word.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: I think tasteful.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: It's gonna come up a lot throughout this podcast, but that's the one I would go with for that opener.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: The second track that it transitions into is nice to each other, Ryan.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: And what I loved about seeing Olivia in concert, she starts the tour with these two as well.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: The introduction, she's behind the curtains, and you hear her start with the art of loving intro, and then it transitions right into those curtains dropping and nice to each other, and it just gets the room into the exact right mood for a concert.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: It's impossible to have a bad time, and it comes through on the record, too.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: I think this song is one that I don't think there was another song you could put second that would sound as good as this one.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: So I think the structure and the way she laid it out is really smart.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: This was actually the first single released for this album, which is interesting because it's by far not the most popular song, but I think it does a really good job of following up that brief introduction and really giving you a full tablespoon of what Olivia's about.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: I actually I like that image of the tablespoon too.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: I guess we're gonna keep doing the food thing.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: It was really stuck in food.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: It was not a show notes.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: We were not really not great.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, because I think that's exactly what it is.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Like this song is awesome.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: I I I really do like love this song.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I think it perfectly, like I said, the transition's perfect, but then it also is like this nice, light, bouncy kind of thing that is is a good tune, but it's not as nearly as deep as some of these other tunes.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: It's not nearly as like um musically rich or different as some of these other tunes, but it is that perfect tablespoon of like, here's what you're about to get.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Like or loving intro into this kind of very like boppy, kind of like smooth, very fun to listen to kind of thing.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Um, before you get into like the real kind of rich stuff.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Uh and so I I actually really like that another.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: I think that was perfect.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: But yes, I I love this tune, not to like downplay it at all.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: I really, really do like this tune a lot.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: No, it's a great, it's a great tune.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: And honestly, I'll revisit that point about seeing it live.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: It's such a perfect song to do at the beginning of a show.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: I was sitting next to strangers and instantly we were all bonded.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I would go to war for the people next to me after hearing this one.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: We were just all on the same level, in the same vibe because of this song.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: So Nice to Each Other is a great second song.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: The third song, Ryan, here's where we start to really cook.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: This is Lady Lady.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Your dog's name, Lady, so this one has to hit close to home for you.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Shout out my girl, Lady.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: She's right behind me, she's the best.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Um, it is, it's great.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: I it's a it's a special tune for that reason.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: But I really like the beat drop on this this tune after that chorus.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: The bass line is kind of bouncing up and down, which I really like.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: It's got this kind of off-sync kind of like drum thing going on, too, where it's not your basic two and four for the music nerds out there.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: It's a little syncopated, which I really like.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, cool vocal melody here as well.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: And then just like there's something about the the being catchy of this tune, too.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: That lady lady, she's the man.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Like it is, it's just easy to remember, it's easy to recite, and it's just kind of this fun line that's easy to go back to.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: So I'm a huge fan of this song too.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I think the point you touched on there, the melody for me, especially the melody that comes in after she cuts off the lyric, she's the instead of saying the man, she goes growing on, growing into it, and it's all going.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: And I think that part of the song is so cool.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: I love that little breakdown.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: That's my favorite part of it.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: It's groovy, it's fun, it shows off her vocals a bit too.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: She hits some of those lower notes that are kind of underrated for a female singer to just go down there casually and take a walk in the lower scale.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So she's able to flex throughout this album in a lot of different ways vocally.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: And the combination of that with some grooves that we get is just what makes this rare air in today's pop landscape.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: So I think we're both big, big fans of Lady Lady.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: And for context for the listeners, uh, I'm extremely jealous of Sean's having seen Olivia Dean live.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: So if you hear me like groan or like kind of mumble, like that's what that is.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: And I may ask for more live context.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Like, for example, on this tune, like, was anything stand out to you when you saw it live?
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I'm honestly the band is just so you get it, just an exact feel for how crisp the band is.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Because there's some good horns on this this tune.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Really good horn section, and that shines throughout the live show.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: It shine shines throughout the album, but you get a feel with the band.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: They're so good at their jobs, they're so professional and buttoned up that it almost feels like it's recorded in all the best ways.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: It sounds so clean in person, where sometimes you just get, you know, a straight note here or there, or just something that's a little elongated and out of place.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: There's none of that with Olivia's group.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: They're a well-oiled machine.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't expect anything less.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: That's nigga.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: It's a proper, proper operation.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: The fourth track, Rai, is close up.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I'll let you start with this one.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: This is in the running for my favorite tune on this album.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: I absolutely adore this song.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: To start, it is very Adele to me, and that's a theme of this album that we had discussed.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: But uh, this is the first one where it's like, oh, I can see this being an Adele song, and you kind of start to see that influence shine through.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Um I love how the song just switches.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: It feels like it has kind of the like two parts.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Like the first verse is this kind of quiet, downtrodden minor kind of thing.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: And then all of a sudden, this chorus hits you in the face and it goes into this groove, and it is just so groovy with the horns.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: The melody is so catchy.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: The horns are a highlight for me on this one.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: You really see the emphasis points.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Um, the song musically is so rich, and the horn just kind of accent that throughout.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Um, and it just really holds my attention musically.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: This tune.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: It this is like it's just such a unique song, and that's what I love about it.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: It's not just kind of like the same four chords throughout, kind of doing this basic thing.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Like it is really, really rich and interesting, and it holds your attention the whole time.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: So I'm a huge fan.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Close up to me is is no doubt one of my favorites on this album.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I will say the exact same.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I think it is probably the most underrated in terms of the ones that are my favorites on this album.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Totally agree.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: You don't hear a ton of people just running to gush about close up, but God, the horns are so good.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: I love when the music kind of stops and slows and they just run down the piano.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I have a favorite lyric.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: It's how can you get close to someone you keep out of reach and where does that leave me?
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: It's just points.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you get exactly what she's saying.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: You just know.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: And for me, as a non-lyric guy, like to me, that that's where it starts to stand out, where it's like, not only do I love the music, but you're right.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Lines like that to me are like, oh crap, like that's really good songwriting, too.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: You know, yes, yes.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: We're gonna gush about this album if you guys are unaware.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: You're gonna hear nothing but basically superlatives throughout.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: But it's well worth it, in my opinion, because it combines so many good, interesting parts of music and it's production, it's songwriting, it's vocals, it's instrumentation, it's all of the things and a lot of them, and very often.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: So close-up's great.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: That lyric, it reminds me a lot of one on her debut album and a song called UFO, which is probably my favorite Olivia Dean lyric.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: The lyric is I can't hold your hand with my fingers crossed.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I just think that it's so simple, but it's so so beautiful.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: It's to the point, it's like I can't sit here hoping for something and going down this journey with you.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: I need to know it.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: And Olivia is so confident in herself to be able to write something like this and then pull it off.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: That is that's an incredible line.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: The grand the fingers crossed thing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: That I mean, that's just like it's brilliant.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: It's absolutely brilliant.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's great.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: So we'll move on to the fifth track, Ryan, which is so easy to fall in love.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: And I'll go first.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: This is just an absolute heater.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Here it is, 101 miles an hour.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Try your best to hit it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: By the way, there's some movement and it's on the black.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: This the now famous lyric from the song, I'm a perfect mix of Saturday night and the rest of your life.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: That is just so good.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: It makes anybody understand exactly what she's saying in just a fun little note.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: So good.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: So good.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: It's universal too.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Every every you know, it's not it's not complicated, but it's it's so elegant and perfect.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: And then just from a melody standpoint, it's uh an instant pop hit because of how catchy and cool it is.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: It's almost unique, which is weird and rare in today's pop world.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: You don't really get unique songs, but I feel like this one is.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: I also just think uh it's a perfect mix, not just of Saturday Night and the Rest of Your Life, it's a perfect groovy jam and a pop hit.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: So it's like music people will love the music in this song, and then people who like pop music will love the literature.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Lyrics and melody.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that that's spot on.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: And the, you know, almost a year ago when we talked about this album, I called this a near-perfect song.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And I still agree with that.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: It is that good.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: The the jazzy acoustic guitar to start is just like breathtakingly crisp and great.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: The vocal melody on the verses is so unique.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: The chorus is perfection.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: And I think it's funny in hindsight now, being a year later, like thinking about this song.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: This song got huge.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: Like it got mainstream huge.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Um, and at the time it was just it was like at the time it was man I need, right?
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: It was like that was the thing kind of circulating, and we we liked that.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Um, but this one had really kind of almost got to equal footing as far as man I need, like public uh persona or public ranking-wise.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Um, and I find that so interesting in in a great way, but it's it's true.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: It's the song is accessible as a pop song, but it's also like for the music lovers and people that think a little deeper about music, it it hits all those notes as well.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Uh, which to me like kind of reiterates what I said about it being a damn near perfect song.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: And so like I almost I've found, I don't know about you, I found myself almost like like not a hundred percent like loving that it's become so mainstream.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Like I almost wanted to like have it in my back pocket as this kind of like hidden gem.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: It's not a hidden gem and it never will be, you know, moving forward.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I'm not sure if you share that sentiment with me.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Um, but regardless, it doesn't change the quality of the song.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: It is a fantastic, fantastic song among uh one of my favorites.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: And I'll top it off by saying this like to find me, you know, better back-to-back tracks than these two.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be it's gonna be hard.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, regardless, like, you know, I'm talking like throughout history, it's gonna be hard.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be it's gonna be pretty damn hard.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's my take on this one.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I love I love that you love it, and I do kind of agree with your take a little bit.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I want the world to know and love it as well, but it did feel special when it felt like it was a tight-knit circle of people who knew about this and Olivia Dean in general.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like, oh, this is like our secret.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: But it's so deserved that she's blown up the way she has, and this song does play a big part.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Man I Need plays much more of a role in her blow-up, which we'll get to in just a couple songs, but it just seems like it couldn't have happened to a better person.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: So if that's if that's what it takes for her to be successful in our song getting exposed, we'll we'll we'll allow it.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: Totally, totally, totally.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: And that's I'm not I won't I won't uh disagree with that by any means.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: The sixth track is a big changeup, Brian.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: It is let alone the one you love.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: And this one is a lot different than all of the songs we've heard so far.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: It's a beautiful song, and I think it's a real vocal flex and shows just her range as an artist to go from a song like So Easy to Fall in Love to this, just one track later.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: A thousand percent.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: And this one I'll put this one in a category of maybe has grown in my personal rankings more than any other song on this album.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I really love the shuffle, like the 6-8 kind of shuffle.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: It feels really like elegant and smooth.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: It feels like you're kind of in this like nice jazz club, like having a cocktail or something.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Like it's just got this kind of like elegance to it, but it's really bluesy.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: There's this really cool tone.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: The horns again like sound really good, but it's this, and I'll say this too, drummer is is the definition of pocket on this song.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, it is the perfect 6'8 groove, like the little shuffle.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: So I I really like this song.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: It, like I said, has skyrocketed my rankings on this album and in general, more so than any other.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: So yeah, can't speak highly enough about let alone the one you love.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Another, another Adele-esque song, too, right?
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: I'd be remiss if I didn't say that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Like it it you it reeks of Adele's influence um in the best way possible while also remaining original.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: So that's that's my take on this one.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Excellent, excellent.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Another North London girl, Adele.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, she she's Tottenham till she dies.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: So that's I mean, they're pumping them out in that region.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Not a bad two to have.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: No, what a one-two.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: And you're right, the themes of Adele are pretty evident throughout the album, especially in the ones that take a beat and are a bit slower.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: They really, really scream Adele.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: This one, I mentioned it's a vocal flex.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: I think it's also cool that it's sandwiched in between those two big pop hits, but still feels like it fits on the album.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: It's not like you're jumping all over the place, it just is like a breather in the best way possible between two huge pop smashes.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: It's like, hey, let's take a beat in between and really appreciate this one.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love the lyrics, no questions asked, no doubt in mind, but I love it because the way she says asked.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Asked.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Asked.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: It's I love a Brit.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I love a Brit.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: I can't hide it.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: And that Osked is just phenomenal.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: So I think that deserves its own deserves its own little shout-out.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: But it takes us into Ryan, the song that made Olivia Dean very mainstream, very famous, the song that won her a Grammy Award.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: It is Man I Need.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Talk to me about Man I Need.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so this was like the kind of gateway song for I would say 98% of people that know who Olivia Dean is, maybe 99.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but we talked about this last year.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Uh to me, it I'm not mad at this one being the gateway song, right?
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Like it's a very, very good song.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: It walks that line really well, like we just talked about with um So Easy to Fall in Love that it is catchy for all the right reasons, and it is popular for all the right reasons, but there is some musical depth to it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: It grew in in an age of overproduced people that can't actually sing and have no talent.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: And we can get on my I can get on my little rant.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: We don't need that.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: It's the first episode here, but we don't need to limit that.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: But that's a glimpse into the mind of Ryan.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: This song, for it to be, you know, probably the number one song in the world at a certain point last year.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Um, I am certainly not going to complain about that because there is raw talent, there is good music, um, it is catchy in the way that a pop song should be catchy, uh, but is also not like annoying or just like or a cliche, or you know, like I think it really hits the mark.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: So is it my favorite song in the world?
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Do I think uh, you know, could I put probably 20 Olivia Dean songs ahead of it?
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe I might.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but that doesn't make it a bad song by any means.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: It's a great song and a perfect gateway into what has now flourished into this insane year for Olivia Dean.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I like how you sum that up.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm largely in the same boat with you.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: I I think I might be a little higher on the song in general.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: The only thing that knocks it down a pig is just the overplayed nature of it.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: And you start to sour on something the more and more you hear it.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: But I'm most disappointed in you because I I threw you a softball here.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I said, talk to me about this song, and the pun kind of flew right over your head there.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Right over my head.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: The listeners are, you know, the listeners.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna apologize, but uh, you know, I'm gonna get banged for that, and I deserve to.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: I thought of it mid-transition, and I was like, Oh, this is gonna be good, and then you did not reciprocate, so I was like, oh, okay, maybe a missed opportunity by me.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: But hey, that happens.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: That happens.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: It's also funny.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: This one, she was unsure about this song.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: She didn't know whether to put it out as a single, she was worried about how it fit on the album and what a great decision it ultimately was to take the leap of faith and put this out not only as a single, but to include this in the art of loving, because who knows what her career would look like.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: If not, you just never know with these type of things.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: A person as talented as she is would likely find her way to international fame and fortune.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: And she was well on her way already.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: It's not like this, it's not like she was a no-one before this song came out, but this really elevated her to a level that I don't think she expected.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it made that art of loving tour, it went to heights that I don't think she foresaw, at least this early in her career.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: So a lot is to be owed to this song, even if it's not either of our favorites.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: Whatever it takes to get there, that's great.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: And again, not that she has any like bad songs, but like I'm glad that this is a good one that could have you know broken that that mold for her.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: So I I have no objections.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: The eighth track is something in between.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: I think this is a cool song concept that it has been done before, but it's about the fringes of a relationship.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: And a lot of people have sang about that before, but I feel like the unique spin she puts on it is cool, and it really makes this song one I come back to a lot.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: It's it's a message about love not being possessive and it needing to have some air.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: I'm not his, I'm not hers, I'm not yours, that sort of thing.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: And then just I feel like a lot of people can relate to a lot of the concepts in this one, and then musically, it's just another one.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: It's coming off the back of Man I Need, and I think she really does a good job of just finding the right type of song to put in this eight-hole.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: It's interesting you say that, um, that you go back to it because I would say of all the songs on this album, this is probably the one that I go back to the least.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Um, and not to say that I don't like it, um, but to me it's pretty like one note.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Um, it especially musically, like it just doesn't really like dynamically do anything.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: It kind of just stays in one place and kind of in the same ballpark, like key-wise, and just like like I don't know.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: It's to me, it's just not my favorite.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Um I I agree on the lyrics, agree on the message completely, uh, but for the reason of the it being kind of musically static, I rarely return to this one.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Um, but again, I think it fits in the album, right?
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: Like I think it's a kind of a switch up from Man I Need as far as like tone and and the way the dynamic uh in a way that it can use on the album, and I wouldn't take it off the album, um, but certainly like just not one that I find myself going back to.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's kind of like a palette cleanser almost.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: It's like you just had back to the food analogies.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: I can't quit them.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: But we're having dinner, right?
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: We just had a really unique, tasting, flavorful experience.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: We just need something to cleanse the palate and get us back to neutral.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what Something Between does with some really cool lyrics.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: So it is one that I come back to because I feel like it just it's it's nice, it's easy to listen to, it's not super dynamic in any way, like you mentioned.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: We're not getting a wide range of emotions in this one, but it's really in the pocket, it's really it's just solid.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: So it's a lemon, it's a lemon sorbet.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: That's exactly right.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: And I love a lemon sorbet.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I'll be the first one.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it can be very good.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: It could be could be great.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, the ninth track, Ryan, is loud.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: My first note on this, it's just two words vocals, Adele.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Yep, yep, that's about it.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: That's really all you need to say.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: It it I would say challenges Adele in any uh, you know, like yeah, I I would I would be curious in a in a battle of this versus some Adele songs, how it comes out.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: But holy crap, I mean, the voice, if there's any doubt that the music and the grooves are kind of carrying her and the songwriting and all these things, and that like maybe you know, all of those things are great, and maybe the voice is good enough, but not like elite, this song puts those those thoughts to bed.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: The voice is truly ridiculous.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: It shows the range from low to high, like you talked about before, and is just breathtakingly good.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and and to me, it's not the most musically like interesting song.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: I think it's beautiful, like orchestral, um, but that is overcome because of the vocal prowess, um, which is hard to do uh in my book.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Um, but I put this in and we'll do tears later.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: But like and just it's a fantastic song that showcases the amount of talent that this this woman has.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, that's my take on Loud.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: It's fit absolutely fantastic.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: I love this song, Ryan.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: And just to kind of highlight that point about the vocals, if you know the context of how this was recorded, it's even more stunning.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: So she brings in all of the strings to record their parts of the song, which is that orchestral feel.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: And with five minutes or so left in the studio session, she said, I'll sing the track with you all playing it, just so you have a good judge of the tempo and what my voice will sound like, and you guys can get a true feel for what it will sound like on the record.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: And that vocal track, that audio track from that live performance was so good that that's what they used on the album.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: So ridiculous.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: To just show up and be like, hey, I'll just sing this so you guys know what it sounds like.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Like a scratch vocal.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's like flawless.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: We're gonna use that on the record, is unbelievable.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a thing in recording studios you do like a scratch vocal, like for the band or whatever, you know, it's like a throwaway.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: And I imagine that that's what this was to her.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Like that I I can't imagine that this is like, oh no, I'm gonna go all out and really like do my thing and try to make this the number one uh, you know, like track that we use.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: And that's how it turns out is like uh really like unheard of.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: And she's far from the first artist to explore the concept of silence being loud.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: It's been done a million times, but I think the lyrical change that she has in this is so cool when she starts the song, it's four hands at the piano, you sure know how to play, referencing a couple when they're together.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: And then the last part of the song, she changes the lyric to here I am, two hands at the piano, the one I let you play.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, that was a privilege you had, you know, to sit here and play with me, and it's gone now.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I uh, you know, knock on wood, I'm never gonna, I'm never gonna have another breakup in my life.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Um, but this song I would imagine would hit like crack if you just had a breakup.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, brother, yeah, this is good stuff here.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: This is this is good.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: The 10th track, Rai, is Baby Steps and Back to Grooving We Go.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this to me is uh in a similar vein as like nice to each other, in that I really like the song.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: Um there's not like this crazy amount of like depth to it, uh, but it's super fun and engaging and a great, like we talked about, like a great pop song while also being like not this musically you know overproduced like crap, but like really good musically.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: It grooves, it's catchy, it's got this fun vibe.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: You can't help but dance to it.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: I really like the intro too.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: It slowly kind of builds into the groove, and then the chorus again, it's like back to the Lady Lady or some of these other choruses that are just like you can't help but just like want to go back and sing it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: And that's the that's the beauty of a great pop song.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: And that's really this album, like the theme of it is almost this transporting back to a time when pop music was like legitimately good music.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Like you go think you think like Earth, Wind and Fire, like like stuff like that, Stevie Wonder, or like some of these people where the music itself was so good and so dynamic and so interesting, and not just kind of like these like faces that the industry puts out.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: And that's what this is, it's a throwback to that.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: I think it is a good shout, and also it's something that I noticed during her pre-show.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: The music that she chose to put on for the crowd was almost exactly the artist that you mentioned.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: It was the Earth, Wind, and Fire, it was the Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, it was just really good old school music.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: You could hear nothing of the crap that you're talking about, the overly produced stuff that didn't exist in the pre-show and it didn't exist during the show.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: So I think it was a really like you it was a good choice by her.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: And it's right up the alley for this song.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: It's just good.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: I think it's catchy, I like the lyrics, it's groovy.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: It's not a standout for me in terms of it's not one of my four or five favorites on the record, but I really do like the message in it too because it's very relatable.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: It's one of those ones where you hear a lyric and you're like, oh, I know exactly that feeling.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: The no one detects when the plane lands when you don't have that person, and you know exactly what that feels like because if you do have that person, you know the first thing you're doing is sending that exact text.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: I will say the to call when it's taking off lyric is a bit worrisome.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: There is pretty clear about the phones away on the runway.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, never heard of it, so we might need to re-educate Olivia.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: I guess if you fly fly private, that doesn't matter.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: But those of us that don't, she could be a menace to sit next to.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: So that on the record as well.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: And I like what you said too about again going back to these lines that are not like breathtakingly complex to process, but the ideas are so unique and easy to grasp when they're said, like no one detects when the plane lands.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: It's it's not rocket science, it's right there in front of you, it's obvious, but it's not cliche, you know, in a way that so many artists use these kind of cliche like concepts or ideas.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'll let you finish, but I I've really that that's a good observation and another.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Add it to the list of these lyrics that she uses that kind of fall in that same camp.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: The only other thing I had on this one was we've referenced Adele a lot.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: This one to me sounds a lot like Water Under the Bridge.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: I think the Adele song Water Under the Bridge has a lot of similarities here.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: So it's never a bad thing to be compared to Adele.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: And I think Baby Steps has a little bit of that vibe to it, which is a good thing for me.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: We've got two songs left, Ryan.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: The 11th track is a couple minutes.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: The classiest girl in the room here.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, she is just class, class, class.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I love this song, every little bit of it.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: We've been talking recently about um kind of like getting into cozy season, right?
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: And this this is kind of this song, it it fits that for me.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: It's kind of that warm, like blanket.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Uh is it again, is it my favorite song on the album?
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: No.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Is it is it in the upper echelon for me?
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Honestly, probably not, as far as repeatable songs that I go back to regularly, but you can't deny uh the vocal prowess again, the cool harmonies in the chorus.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: Um, but it fits the album, it fits what the album needs, right?
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: I think it's this perfect, again, like this this 10-course tasting menu, right?
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: And you you're gonna have your like explosive, like, oh my gosh, stuff, and you're gonna have your like more muted but still elegant um, you know, ingredients or courses, and that that's what this is to me.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Um, it's it's another like highly elevated uh lemon sorbet or something along those lines that's very good, but not quite at the level of some of the other stuff that we've seen from this album.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: I'm with you in some of the things you said.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: I do agree this fall time of year is a perfect match for this song.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: I I liken it to a warm bowl of soup.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: And when done right, Ryan, a warm bowl of soup is like a gentle hug.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: It is excellent.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna hear a bad word from me about this one.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: It just invites you in, it says, Hey, come grab a seat, sit down next to me.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: We're gonna slow things down a beat, we're gonna enjoy some music and just unpack a little.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: I love this one, it is one I go back to pretty frequently.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: I do think there is something to be said about, yeah, you're probably not putting this one on in the middle of a drive in the summer.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: So there is a little bit of terms of when you put this on, but especially this time of year, I think it's absolutely perfect.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: And I think we, you know, this may be one that we differ a little bit more on.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like uh we have we haven't disagreed a whole heck of a lot on this album.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: I think maybe this is one where we we take a little bit separate path, and that's okay.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: That's completely fine.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: The 12th track, the final track on The Art of Loving Ryan is I've seen it.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: And I have to say, Ryan, a year ago when this came out, we were acted pretty early.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: We didn't have a ton of context or familiarity with the album when we did the review.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: And I said to you, This song sounds a lot like just the two of us.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: And you you agreed, you're like, Oh yeah, I could hear that.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Well, it turns out that she interpolated that song, so that is very much what it sounds like because it's the same.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: So, yes, so I just hate to flex on people, but a ball knower move by that.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Literally, you're excellent at that.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: That's one of my few skills in life.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Is like, hey, this sounds like that.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: I can't play any, it's useless skill, it's it's a party trick that doesn't do any favors for me, but I'm happy to take a small victory lap here.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: That's it's music theory in a in a certain way.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Um this I've seen it is we want to talk about bookends of an album.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Like it's a textbook on bookends, you know what I mean?
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Like it is Art of the Loving Intro.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: I've seen it.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know that there are better bookends to an album out there.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: And if there are, then it's tied for this because I really am not sure that how it could get better.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: Um, it is a perfect resolve to this album, it's reflective, emotional, um, and it is just like such a beautiful way to end that the 10-course meal that we just had.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Um, it is the perfect light dessert at the end.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's just it's just so beautifully done.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: So, to me, like I said, it it is all about wrapping it up perfectly and being the complement to the Art of Loving intro in that perfect bookend.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, uh not much more I could say about it, but just so excellent.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: And it's become a little bit more mainstream too.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: Um, it's been interesting to see.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: Like, uh, I'm not a TikToker, but uh, you know, my wife shares them with me, and like it's it's this kind of there's like a trend around it where you're kind of sharing like uh nostalgic things or like reflecting on uh life during a certain period or something like that.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: So you you do you definitely see it.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's cool.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that it was at all mainstream.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: I kind of thought this was just one tucked away at the end of the album.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Ryan, this has been over the course of the last year, this has been the biggest stock riser for me.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: I was a fan of it at the time.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, I liked it a lot at the time.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Time because I thought it was beautiful.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: But hearing it in person and then listening to it more and more and really diving into the lyrics, I absolutely love this song.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: And it's honestly elevated to one of my favorites on the record.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know that there's a better song ever written to capture all of the different ways love exists.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: And I know that's the point of this album, but the way she talks about this being all around her all the time, it's sat across her on the tube.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: She's seen it miss a stop or two, which could mean love maybe moving too quick, or maybe literally a couple sitting across from her on the tube just forgetting their stop because they're in love.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: There's so many little things in this song that are just nuggets of beauty.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: I can't get enough of it.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: The line where she says I've seen it dance around the table with Eleanor, Rosie, and Louise, which are her just her friends, and she's talking about love and just having dinner with her friends and like what that looks like.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: The descriptiveness of it is I mean, I don't know.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I don't know if I've heard a better one.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: And also just the two of us is just an all-time classic melody.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: So the fact that she kind of uses that melody, which has a nostalgic feel to it already, and then puts this message and these lyrics on top of it.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: I can't get enough if I've seen it.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: I might hop on that TikTok trend.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hey, I can see you doing it.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, maybe maybe a first uh intro TikTok for the new pod.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that's a really good point.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: And I I love that for you.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: That's it's become your our highest riser.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: It's interesting that we each have one.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but yeah, no, I I I no notes.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: It's truly just the I I can't think of a better ending to this album.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: No, it's it's perfect.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: The storytelling throughout and then tying a bow on it and landing the plane in the best possible way.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I I look for that when I'm listening to music because, like I said, I love just sitting and listening to an album straight through.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: And when there's songs that are out of context, there's no real flow or rhythm that you could get into, it just makes them a little bit less re-listenable.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: And this one has never for one single second felt overplayed or outdated for me because of the way it's set up and structured.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: So I'm a big fan, I know you're a big fan.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: We just sang its praises.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: It's time to tier some songs.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: We're gonna work backwards, Ryan.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna work from tier four to tier one.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Again, quick reminder: tier four is a cut from the record, it doesn't exist anymore if we cut it.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Tier three, we're gonna keep it around.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: It's fine, I would say, is the main word.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: It fits in the album, but it's not a standout.
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: Tier two, really good.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Really good, could be great, but tier one is reserved for those really, really great elite songs.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, and I wanna I wanna respect tier one.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: Like, I I, you know, we could gush about this album and make an argument for most of these songs to be tier one, but I'm trying to be really picky when it comes to this.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: I'm comparing the songs to each other on this album, right?
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: Like, I think I think that you're not comparing it's not tier one in the grand scheme of music.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: It's like on the scheme of the album itself.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: I think that's an important clarification.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: That isn't a very important clarification.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: I agree we have to do it so it makes sense for the listener on the context of this album where we rank the songs.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: It's going to come back to bite us when people might listen out of context and chirp when we have a song from a different record with tier one that's a much worse record.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: So we're doing it in this album.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: So, Ryan, I'll let you kick things off.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Start us off with tier four and work your way up.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, this will be short.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: There are none.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Spoiler alert, I'm in the same boat for tier four.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: No need tier four for this episode.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: No, not not necessary.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, and I don't do that lightly, um, but truly, like I wouldn't cut anything.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Tier three.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I have two on tier three.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Uh, so I have something in between, and I have a couple minutes.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, that's for me personally.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: I think you're gonna differ on that.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, those are my two that I'm like, like them in the context of the album, do not return to them very often whatsoever.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: I I have something in between as well.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: I like it a lot and return to it a lot, but it is still it's just like that palette cleanser for me, and I think that's why I go back to it so much.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: And I actually have Man I Need here.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: And it's just for me personally, I just because of how much it's been played, I'm never putting it on.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: So I mean I I was kind of torn on what to do because, on its merit, it deserves a tier two for me.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: So maybe I'll keep it there.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: I could talk myself into it.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: It's just at the moment, after a year of hearing it, every time you go on any social media, it's tough to go much higher than tier three.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: So I guess I need to zoom out and think about the longevity of this podcast and just keep it at tier two.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: So I'll just keep tier three to something in between.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: But I want listeners to know I'm close to man I need falling in there as well.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I think that's valid.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: And I I share the same sentiment with you.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: I am a little bit like tired of it just because of how much you hear it.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: But that's not Olivia Dean's fault.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: And I like I'm trying to like take the song right.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Like, I want to take the song for what it is, and so that's why I wouldn't do that to it.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: But I share the same sentiment with you there.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: We're on we're on a similar page.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: Let's go tier two.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Tier two.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: So I will go art of loving intro, nice to each other, lady lady, I have man I need tier two, and then I have baby steps tier two.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: I have the art of loving intro, nice to each other.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: I guess I'm lumping man I need in here as well.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: And then I also have let alone the one you love, which just falls short of that tier one for me.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: But if I had to pick one to move in tier one, that would be the one, but I'm gonna keep it in tier two.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: So I've gone the art of loving intro, man I need, nice to each other, and let alone the one you love in tier two.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: So my tier one then that leaves close up, that leaves so easy to fall in love, let alone the one you love, loud, and I've seen it.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: And this does not necessarily mean these are my most re-listened songs, um, but they're to me what I view as the highest quality songs on this album.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: Um, and so to me, like close up, so much, so easy to fall in love, let alone the one you love, those are three that I I am constantly re-listening to.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Loud and I've seen it, not quite as much, but they're just such uh masterpieces, truly, that you can't not put them in tier one, in my opinion.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: So that is where I fall.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: Those are the top five songs on the album.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: I have in tier one, I have Loud, So Easy to Fall in Love, Close Up, and I've Seen It.
- 50:44unknown: Right.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: So we're a line there.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're very, very similar throughout.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: So I can't say enough good things about the album as a whole.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Ryan, to sum up these episodes, we'll give our parting thoughts on the album and then a score.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: So I'll let you kick things off with both.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's hard to say a bad word about this album, man.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: And and we're a year away from it.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: And I believe last year I may have said some crazy stuff uh about just being enthusiastic about it.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: And I think the test of time is important here too.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: And we're a year out.
- 51:17SPEAKER_02: You've kind of heard, perhaps overheard some of these songs at this point.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: But the thing still holds up like, you know, as good as ever.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: Uh and in fact, it's aging like a Pinot.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: It is aging so well.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Because yes, some of them maybe have gotten played a bit too much, but others are starting to be appreciated more and getting to the level that they should be, and even growing in some cases, like the ones we talked about.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: So I think for sure.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: It's it's all good news on the Olivia Dean front.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: And thankfully, I think at the time we kind of were able to identify this, but it feels like a classic that we're witnessing in real time.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Um, and I don't I don't think I'm gonna regret saying that.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: Like I really truly believe that 30 years from now people will be listening to and really enjoying this album in the same way that people fire up uh I don't know, this might be a bold thing to say, but like Songs in the Key of Life or something along those lines, like Stevie Wonder uh or something like that, where it just like it feels timeless.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: Um this album could have been made in 1975, you know, like it genuinely like the way that it's constructed, but um, it has that timeless feel to it.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: I do not think it's going away anytime soon or ever for that matter.
- 52:30SPEAKER_02: I think Olivia Dean is only going up.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, my hope and my thought is that you know, you've seen her live, you've seen these kind of live arrangements.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: I don't think she's gonna get eaten up by the pop music industry or the world in that way, which is very exciting.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: And I hope there's 10 more albums that are like this uh over the next couple decades.
- 52:49SPEAKER_02: Um, but that is that was my number one concern when this album came out, if you'll remember, um, was that Olivia Dean's gonna get swallowed up whole by these executives that just want to make dumb music.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, and I really just continue to pray that that is not the case.
- 53:03SPEAKER_02: Um all that being said, absolute masterpiece of an album, one of my favorites of all time.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna give it a 96 rating.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: That is great stuff from you.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: I'm so happy that you're this high on it.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: I was putting I thought you were gonna say 92-ish.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: So I had you in the 90s.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love to hear it.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: It's really high.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: It's really, really high.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: And you know you're in the trust tree when you say this could age like songs in the key of life.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: You know you're in a safe space to say that because I'll send this thing's honor until my dying day.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: Uh this thing's not going downhill one second on my watch.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Can you believe, Ryan?
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: These absolute clowns at pitchfork.com gave this album a 6.9.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: They're paid money to review music.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: A 6.9.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: What are we doing?
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: It's truly that that's actually like what are we doing?
- 54:04SPEAKER_02: You the whoever like has their name on that should never work in music again.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Like, what are we genuinely like what are we talking about?
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: What are we doing?
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: I hate whoever did that.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: Just just know that.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: I'll at you if I could find your name and handle.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: I will tag you in it.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: I think you're clueless.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to turn this negative because it's been such a wonderful positive episode, but it just needs to be called to attention that pitchfork.com are an evil, evil empire.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: I I will just give quickly my thoughts on the album.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: We've touched on it all, but just to sum it up, I think it's timeless, I think it's elegant, I think it's really tasteful.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: There's so many good stories in it.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: Um it's such a cool perspective on love, the grooves, the ballads, the blend of it all.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: It just works for me.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: It has since the moment I heard it.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: I think the person that put it out is one of the most humble, authentic, cool, just naturally cool people in the music industry.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: I want any bit of Olivia Dean content I can get my hands on.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: I think she's just awesome.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: And I think she deserves all of this that's come her way.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: I will give this score a 97.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: So I'm one point above you, but I was close to going 98, which I think is the highest score I would I would give out because it leaves no room for growth.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: But it's really that good.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: I just I just don't know.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: I've listened to something for a year straight and not gotten sick of it.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: So it's special, man.
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: It's special.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we just got something like we talked about seasonal.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: It's got something for every time of year, too.
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: You know, it's got some warm weather, good feel, it's got some cozy fall, it's got some winter, you know, like it hits those notes too, which I think plays into the timeless thing.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: That was my last note, Ryan.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: I I had two final things, and the first one was it's so easily digestible because of the flow, which we did touch on, and that does tie back into our food reference.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: It's just it's a perfectly balanced meal that you leave and you're not too full or bloated from, you know.
- 56:05SPEAKER_01: Like you're content.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: I'm not like meat sweats, it's it's it's just you want to go for a long walk after the meal, and then it travels well to any occasion.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: There's songs for weddings, there's songs for summer car rides, there are songs for walks in autumn.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: You name it, Dino has it in her bag.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: She put it on display in this album.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: The Art of Loving's average score here on the replay room is a 96 and a half.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: So a damn good start to the podcast, Ryan.
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: Not a bad start.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Not too bad.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: So, listeners, thank you all for tuning in to the debut episode here.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: As I said, you can expect a lot of music reviews, you can expect a lot of movie breakdowns, anything pop culture.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do our best to talk about it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: We're gonna break it down the best way we can.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Ryan will be with me for a lot of these episodes.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: So, Ryan, you'll become familiar with him.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: I appreciate you joining me.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me again.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: It's an honor to share the stage uh with such a savant of music um as you are and uh Pontique keep getting these going.
- 57:12SPEAKER_02: I love talking music with you and uh sharing it with the world.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: So glad we get to do this.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: I appreciate the kind words.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: I couldn't play the recorder.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Ryan is the manager.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: He's the one you should listen to on these topics.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: But listeners, we really do appreciate it.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: If you could like and subscribe, that is gonna be really key.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: I'll plug the socials as we get those out and rolling, but we just want to get some good content on the books first, and we'll let those things start to cook over time.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: So like and subscribe on your way out, leave a comment.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Five stars, that does mean a lot.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: So it's a quick five star.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Tap it, five be done.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: You just gotta do it once.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: We're not asking you to do it every episode just one time.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Thank you all for tuning in.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: And until next time, take care of
