• 4:06
  Speaker 4: I can't believe that we're here.
• 4:10
Speaker 1: So I had to go.
• 4:11
Speaker 7: I can't believe Jeff can count to 500.
• 4:15
  Speaker 1: I can't it.
• 4:15
Speaker 1: Does it for me.
• 4:16
Speaker 1: Hey Whiskey, he didn't.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: You see his right-hand side, the person that kept them all straight and look, you got your 500th coming up.
• 4:29
  Speaker 4: That's the one.
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: Roxy.
• 4:31
  Speaker 4: She's the main.
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no doubt there's.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: I couldn't, I could have not done this without Roxy, and it's, it's been a wonderful ride, ride, hasn't it?
• 4:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
• 4:44
Speaker 1: It's so much fun.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: It's so much fun from when we started.
• 4:48
Speaker 1: I mean, pretty much everybody's heard the story about the whiskey calendar, why we started it.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: It's just like going over, didn't really?
• 4:56
Speaker 1: It was in 2018.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: Never believed that, um, whiskey could taste creme brulee and we, we thought it was bs.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: So we went out and started bottled that.
• 5:07
Speaker 1: That was young nose in me, uh.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: And so I had art, you know, had done an art video blog.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: So we were just like let's podcast about whiskey because it was so much fun and we had gone to the bourbon festival and met super Nash.
• 5:23
Speaker 1: So our first podcast was November 4th 2019.
• 5:29
Speaker 1: And we did a podcast.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: Believe it or not, 45 minutes, it was a 45.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: That was what we were shooting for and I set it up and we did it and it was just audio.
• 5:41
Speaker 1: There was no video at the time and when we finished it didn't save, for whatever reason.
• 5:50
  Speaker 1: It wasn't there.
• 5:51
Speaker 1: So I looked at Young Nose and I said to him I said, well, in the first episode that didn't get recorded.
• 6:02
Speaker 1: We were tasting early times, bottled in Bond, that was what it was.
• 6:09
Speaker 1: But when we actually did the first episode, which is only 15 minutes because we were already toasted from the 45 minutes that we had been on, and then we did Larceny that's the first.
• 6:24
Speaker 1: Uh, that was the first podcast.
• 6:27
Speaker 1: We we rated it, and so what's really cool is I still have what was the barrel.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: This was initially what we used as the barrel.
• 6:37
Speaker 1: It was called the barrel bash and we and we would bash on it and actually when we started the podcast, young Nose would, when we were coming on, we would put different songs on because nobody cared at the time about copyrights of somebody who was getting 12 views.
• 6:56
Speaker 1: So we did the larceny and it was really cool because at that time larceny had an app that you could play and do things, because it was about fitch gerald as the agent and all the stuff that he was doing.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: So that was the larceny.
• 7:17
Speaker 1: Bottle was first and in honor of that I had done a bottle your own, or bourbon, your, what is it called?
• 7:24
Speaker 1: Nash at Heaven Hill.
• 7:26
Speaker 4: Bottle your own bourbon.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: Yes, so we had gone there, myself, roxy and Xavier, and we, we all picked it.
• 7:35
Speaker 1: They picked, I believe, elijah Craig.
• 7:37
Speaker 9: Yeah, elijah Craig, but.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: I really like this, this Larson, we still have that.
• 7:41
  Speaker 1: Yes, we do.
• 7:41
Speaker 1: Haven't opened that one either.
• 7:43
Speaker 1: Oh gosh, so yeah, because.
• 7:44
Speaker 1: So one of the things real quick Roxy does is we go and she always picks really good things Like she's found some really good coffee flavored bourbons and cherry from Michigan and she finds all these.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: None of them are open.
• 8:02
Speaker 9: She does buy bottles, but most of them will you know which one I do want to open someday, is the my blend from um.
• 8:10
Speaker 9: Help me when we did our own blend at the your t-shirt, uh bourbon 30.
• 8:16
  Speaker 1: Bourbon 30.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: Yes, we, it's right over there.
• 8:20
Speaker 9: I did a blend from Bourbon 30 and the Bourbon 30 gentleman.
• 8:25
Speaker 4: I was the one that took y'all there.
• 8:26
  Speaker 4: Yeah, you did.
• 8:27
Speaker 9: That was you, yeah, and the gentleman was quite impressed with my blend, we've got to go here yeah.
• 8:35
Speaker 4: At Bourbon 30 when it was on the back alley and all that little, that little garage open yeah, and he came.
• 8:44
Speaker 9: He came to me and said oh, I would have never thought to put those together.
• 8:48
Speaker 9: And uh, and you do.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: Bourbon is what it's called.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: I even yes, there we go, all right, yes, so anyways, first podcast like I said, we got that story the first podcast never really hit, and then it was the second podcast, became the first, and then wait.
• 9:10
Speaker 8: So technically this is the five hundred and first.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: No, no, it never got loaded.
• 9:15
Speaker 1: I mean, if you want there's, there's what you've recorded Five hundred.
• 9:19
  Speaker 1: No, I'm probably.
• 9:20
  Speaker 1: I've probably recorded, 535, 40.
• 9:23
Speaker 1: I mean, sometimes they do get uh, they, they're classic tiny late to the party no, these are okay.
• 9:34
Speaker 1: Our 500th published podcast.
• 9:37
Speaker 1: Yes, okay, we'll go with published.
• 9:40
Speaker 1: Okay, that's assuming that you click save.
• 9:43
Speaker 7: Yeah, so we're doing it again next Tuesday, everybody.
• 9:47
Speaker 1: No, it's actually happening.
• 9:49
  Speaker 1: It's recording.
• 9:50
Speaker 1: I can tell I've gotten much better at it since that first episode.
• 9:55
Speaker 1: It's funny, so let's just evolve the people.
• 10:02
Speaker 1: So first it was Young Nose.
• 10:03
Speaker 1: Young Nose eventually moved to North Carolina and Xavier came in.
• 10:07
Speaker 1: We all know the story of Xavier.
• 10:10
Speaker 1: We won't go into much detail, but at one point Xavier left and at that point CT Well, super Nash came in.
• 10:20
  Speaker 9: Super.
• 10:20
Speaker 1: Nash actually came in on the podcast.
• 10:23
  Speaker 9: He inserted himself.
• 10:25
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 10:25
Speaker 9: From South Carolina, super Nash came in on the podcast he inserted himself.
• 10:28
  Speaker 9: Yes, from South.
• 10:29
Speaker 7: Carolina, that's not true.
• 10:30
  Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure HR's got a policy.
• 10:32
Speaker 9: Oh, I know, I figured if I opened the door.
• 10:35
Speaker 4: Just a second on how you said that Whiskey would charge right in.
• 10:41
Speaker 4: But hey, do you remember?
• 10:42
Speaker 4: The day was actually december 14th 2019 when I actually flew up to to ohio and my wife was telling me you don't even know these people yes, I do?
• 10:58
Speaker 4: and what did I tell jeff?
• 10:59
Speaker 4: I've been talking with Jeff and he is like my brother from another mother.
• 11:03
Speaker 4: I'm going to see him, I'm going to stay with him, I'm becoming part of this and I actually did and I became actually the seventh member and it was actually the sixth podcast of the Scotchy Bourbon.
• 11:22
  Speaker 2: Boys.
• 11:23
  Speaker 4: Yep.
• 11:24
  Speaker 1: And.
• 11:24
Speaker 4: I came in and you were like, well, we're going to do a podcast.
• 11:29
Speaker 4: And I said what?
• 11:31
Speaker 9: That's the one we set up in the kitchen.
• 11:33
Speaker 1: No, we set nope that podcast.
• 11:36
Speaker 8: No, it was in my office, oh it was in your office, in your office or in the?
• 11:40
  Speaker 1: bedroom.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: That's when Sherry got the bad news about her knee had a hurt knee and, uh, we had to take care of that.
• 11:52
Speaker 4: But at the same time it was like I brought up a bottle, bottle of a, my initiation, which the thing to become part of the Scotchie Bourbon Boys, yep, was.
• 12:03
Speaker 4: You bring a bottle to open up with the group and it was a bottle of Blanton's Gold which nobody had ever had up there.
• 12:11
Speaker 4: Also at the same time I brought up a bottle of a 1994 Booker's Bourbon.
• 12:26
  Speaker 1: The painting Booker's.
• 12:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was in.
• 12:29
Speaker 4: You know it was close to the serial numbers and that's how I got to talking with Jeff when I saw his painting at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and I just happened to message him.
• 12:40
Speaker 4: You know, out of the blue it's like, hey man, it was like I have a old booker's bottle close to the serial numbers and we just got to talking and next, you know, it's like I started sending up bourbon to them, stuff they couldn't even get, like 1792, foolproof.
• 13:00
Speaker 4: You know that a buddy of mine owned a liquor store, had a store pickup so I sent up a whole case.
• 13:08
Speaker 4: You don't even know me, it don't matter, you know, pay me when you get it, stuff like that.
• 13:14
Speaker 4: And then you know I started sending up other bottles, yep.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: That's how I said well, I've got to come up, you know.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: So, yep, that's how I said well, I've got to come up, you know.
• 13:23
Speaker 4: And then, like I say, I came up on December 14th 2019, and sat down for my first podcast with them and it was amazing.
• 13:33
Speaker 4: We opened up, we tasted the Blanton's Gold, but then we opened up the Booker's.
• 13:39
Speaker 4: I let Jeff open up the Bookerers and, uh, cork that was the first cork I ever broke.
• 13:46
Speaker 1: Actually, it's the first dusty I ever tasted yeah, and first dusty right there on the podcast.
• 13:52
Speaker 1: If you, if you listen to the podcast, it didn't get it edited out.
• 13:55
Speaker 1: We had to go get toothpicks and stuff and we pushed it.
• 14:00
Speaker 1: We had a wine thing pushed it through.
• 14:03
Speaker 4: Then we decantered it, pushed the rest of it through and then we poured it up and we started tasting it and talking about it that was, that was me, you and young nose and it was amazing, that was your first, first podcast that was my first ever podcast, being introduced to podcasts and everything and and becoming a member of the scotchy bourbon boys and I'll never, ever forget that moment and that weekend.
• 14:32
Speaker 4: Like I say we uh.
• 14:34
Speaker 4: It solidified us being brothers from another mother and we were like family from then on and it's been amazing ever since.
• 14:44
Speaker 4: I love you, brother, cheers we do, we love you I love y'all too.
• 14:48
Speaker 7: I love you like family too so what that story told me is all right now you can now you really consider me like an uncle, like an uncle.
• 15:05
  Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: Yep, oh yeah, all right.
• 15:09
Speaker 9: So when Jeff told me you were coming, I said if he kills us when he gets here, I'll never forgive you.
• 15:15
Speaker 4: Because you're living like this complete stranger I was in the same thing Into the house.
• 15:21
  Speaker 4: I said how?
• 15:21
Speaker 9: do you know he's not like an elaborate scheme to rob us.
• 15:24
Speaker 9: He's gonna pull out a gun and rob us at knife point it's bourbon point.
• 15:28
Speaker 9: Yeah, like I really didn't think that he's like, no, he's so nice, he's, he's, he's the sweetest guy she was the same way.
• 15:38
Speaker 4: It's like, oh my god.
• 15:40
Speaker 4: Well, I'm so thankful you guys did, I do.
• 15:43
Speaker 4: I know jeff, we love you, and sherry, I know him, you know we thought the same thing of greg, by the way.
• 15:51
Speaker 9: No, no, no, you didn't no, so.
• 15:55
Speaker 1: So then we keep going through and that 2020 hits and we're in like this is the beginning.
• 16:02
Speaker 1: January is when the beginning of COVID happened, right and so Greg.
• 16:08
Speaker 9: Yeah, which put an end to all of our bourbon nights on the deck.
• 16:12
Speaker 1: Do you remember how we actually had contact, like like the first contact?
• 16:19
Speaker 1: The first contact was it through Facebook, I think so I don't exactly remember details, uh, but yeah, I again.
• 16:30
Speaker 5: it was just, I think you and young knows, as I recall, uh early on and uh at the time you know I was working with Chicken Cock as their master distiller, which I no longer am, but yeah, but, I, don't remember the details.
• 16:48
Speaker 5: All I know is kind of like Superdash said you know I've been doing this for over in this industry for over 47 years and it's such a great industry, we have such a great brotherhood.
• 17:03
Speaker 5: And even prior to COVID, when COVID hit, it just kind of exemplified things.
• 17:11
Speaker 5: But even prior to that, when the podcast started coming and the business was booming and bourbon was just growing leaps and bounds, you know that same brotherhood kind of carried into all of that.
• 17:23
Speaker 5: And when you know I personally couldn't do personal tastings or bottle signing events or dinners or any of that, you know we were relegated to our computers and podcasts and it just opened up a whole new world.
• 17:38
Speaker 5: As I've told you many times, you know I'm the biggest low tech redneck there is on this earth.
• 17:46
Speaker 5: Navigating computers or any of this stuff, but it's it's opened up a whole new light and and I've said it time and time again you know Rachel, jeff, you know Martin, your whole group, I mean everybody that's ever been associated with you.
• 18:03
Speaker 5: You've done so much to shed a new light on this industry.
• 18:09
Speaker 5: You know, promote the products that I've been involved with my entire career and I can't thank you enough.
• 18:15
Speaker 5: I mean the relationship that we have.
• 18:17
Speaker 5: As Martin said, it's a brotherhood and I love you guys.
• 18:21
Speaker 5: I enjoy conversing with you when I'm not on the show Youhood, and I love you guys.
• 18:23
Speaker 5: I enjoy conversing with you when I'm not on the show.
• 18:25
Speaker 5: You know I listen in when I can and it's such a blast.
• 18:29
Speaker 5: It's just, it's what I do and what I love, what I've learned and, again, it's part of my life for so many, many years.
• 18:37
Speaker 5: I'm just blessed to be a part of it and thank you for letting me join in the party tonight.
• 18:43
Speaker 4: Well, I think it actually— Greg, thank you.
• 18:46
Speaker 4: I mean you're involving us and accepting us and just showing us the way.
• 18:54
Speaker 4: I mean we can't tell you enough how much you have attributed and helped us along the way and introduced us to so many people.
• 19:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, we could sit here and talk about all night long and go over the people that you've introduced us to, that have helped us along our path and and it's amazing.
• 19:18
Speaker 4: And thank you, brother, and like you said, you are a brother and I appreciate you.
• 19:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, same thing, greg.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: I do remember you contacted me through a messenger about Chicken Cock and asked if I wanted to know more about it.
• 19:37
Speaker 1: So then we started talking back and forth and you watched the lot.
• 19:42
Speaker 1: We were doing some Friday night lives and you were watching them, and so one you had given me your number.
• 19:49
Speaker 1: So we finished a Friday night live that you had commented on, and so we had a bunch of questions about the process of something like distilling, the process of something like distilling, and so we called you up in your kitchen on a Friday night while you were passing.
• 20:08
  Speaker 5: I'm so sorry.
• 20:08
Speaker 5: I kept you on the phone till after midnight.
• 20:10
Speaker 1: No, no, you were.
• 20:12
Speaker 1: You came on the phone.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: So you first it's in and you're sweating.
• 20:16
Speaker 1: You got sweat on your brow.
• 20:19
Speaker 1: And then you tell me well, I'm passing'm passing.
• 20:23
Speaker 1: Was it kidney stones?
• 20:24
Speaker 1: Is that what you were passing?
• 20:25
Speaker 1: You were passing, but so so so so we're, this is work.
• 20:32
  Speaker 5: I didn't pass it.
• 20:33
Speaker 1: That's no they weren't passing right, and so you're in pain, you're sweating, and you're talking about taloses.
• 20:41
Speaker 1: And you're talking about you're telling us about the product, and we hung up and we're like, oh my God, we're so sorry.
• 20:46
Speaker 1: And you're like, no problem, it's you know whatever, and so we're just sitting there and so, oh, my gosh when you talk about just another kidney stone, yeah.
• 20:59
Speaker 10: That sounds like a best of episode.
• 21:02
Speaker 1: But it wasn't even it was, it wasn't even on.
• 21:05
Speaker 1: And then and then what happens is when we we started going down to Kentucky through COVID when everything was was like there wasn't tours and tastings and whatever.
• 21:16
Speaker 1: That's when, greg, that that episode at Bardstown Bourbon Company was like a kickoff.
• 21:21
Speaker 1: We went down there and you got us with Steve Nally and Nick Smith and in Pete's place or that place.
• 21:32
Speaker 1: So that's the time where I tasted the first time I ever tasted, a bourbon that I couldn't believe it tasted what it tasted like.
• 21:41
Speaker 1: And that's when you let me sample, before it was bottled, the chicken cock 15 year.
• 21:45
Speaker 1: And I remember taking a sip while I was cleaning up the podcast.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: And then I sipped it and I had to look back at the bottle that you had just poured because there's no way that it could taste that caramely.
• 22:00
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 22:01
Speaker 1: So you know we just kept.
• 22:02
Speaker 1: You know it's never you and Alan.
• 22:07
Speaker 1: I got to do a shout out to Alan Bishop.
• 22:08
Speaker 1: He can't be here because he's had a flood at his house.
• 22:13
Speaker 1: If anybody, if you go by on Alan Bishop's Facebook page, you can find out if you anybody wants to donate to help him out.
• 22:20
  Speaker 1: He was completely.
• 22:21
Speaker 1: His basement was underwater completely.
• 22:24
Speaker 1: His car was a loss.
• 22:26
Speaker 1: You know, he's just in the process of cleaning tonight and he couldn't be here.
• 22:29
Speaker 1: But between Greg and Alan it just.
• 22:34
Speaker 1: And then I will have to do a shout out to Martin Duffy, the Crystal Glencairn glass representative, because he would put us in touch with other people too.
• 22:43
Speaker 1: He's like do you know this person or have you gone to this person?
• 22:46
Speaker 1: And we at first would just promote you know, now we promote glen karen's because that's what we, what we taste out of.
• 22:55
Speaker 1: But that just was.
• 22:57
Speaker 1: That was like the kickoff to going and doing podcasts at distilleries, something that we hadn't done, and it was um.
• 23:05
Speaker 1: At the time the growth was it wasn't like we were a bourbon pursuit or anything, or, you know, or some of the bigger ones, it's bourbon night, you know, anything like that.
• 23:16
Speaker 1: But we grew quickly because everybody was listening and talking on podcasts, right and can we back up just just a little bit here?
• 23:27
Speaker 4: you know, when, right after me, and and what you actually started with is, and the reason you started it right was because we were we were just getting into whiskey and bourbon and we didn't know anything about it, right.
• 23:42
Speaker 4: And so it was like you know, and like the question you gave to me.
• 23:48
Speaker 1: Hey, nash, remember the podcast where we did the wrong mash bill.
• 23:52
Speaker 1: Our biggest early podcast is when we said that what was it?
• 23:57
Speaker 1: Blanton's was ancient age and we almost got killed for saying that because it's the wrong mask.
• 24:06
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, it's just like they just killed us in bourbon.
• 24:10
  Speaker 4: But.
• 24:10
Speaker 4: I'm like, really, because we didn't do our research, really we're just starting out.
• 24:16
Speaker 4: But another thing was we started this because we were just getting into this and it's like well, how do you pick out a whiskey or a bourbon One?
• 24:26
Speaker 4: Is like I told Jeff.
• 24:28
Speaker 4: It's like, well, I got to, you know, get a bottle off the bottom shelf, pay $20 or $30, and it's like you know.
• 24:36
Speaker 4: And then, well, what if you don't like it?
• 24:39
Speaker 4: Well, I guess it gets poured out or it gets mixed with something.
• 24:43
Speaker 4: So it's like you know, well, we should start tasting and doing this live on Facebook, giving our own tasting notes.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: And so that's how we actually started was picking bottles off the bottom two shelves, you know $20 or $30 bottles, and we tell people a couple of days ahead of of time this is what we're going to taste, this is the bottle we're going to taste this week, right?
• 25:06
Speaker 4: And then we'd just sit around and give our own tasting notes and our own rating system off to a little barrel bashing bong there.
• 25:18
Speaker 4: So that's how we actually started rating.
• 25:24
Speaker 4: And then I started me being super nash.
• 25:28
Speaker 1: I was traveling all over and I was getting these bottles and accumulating bottles like people weren't getting at the time, but you know because it wasn't so we wouldn't be the scotchy bourbon Boys if it wasn't for you, super Nash, because in the state of Ohio, if you don't know what you're doing and we had no clue on how to acquire whiskey you actually came up to the state of Ohio on one and showed me how to get in a line, how to go about doing what it is to obtain the bottles.
• 26:05
Speaker 1: It's like bourbon hunting was not something that we even were doing, but you were fueling all the stuff that we got to taste on the podcast and as we evolved.
• 26:16
Speaker 1: You know, some days I'm like, you know, you gotta, you gotta go back to basics, because as you get bigger, there are people who are just beginning and you can't just be doing all the the allocated stuff completely all the time you got to.
• 26:32
Speaker 4: Really, you know, keep going back to the roots, but so that's, that's what just it just amazed me is like how quickly it grew and overcame.
• 26:45
Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, now within a year or two, we're going to distilleries, we're tasting from barrels, we're tasting stuff that people normally don't get to taste and stuff don't get to taste.
• 27:01
Speaker 4: And stuff and our friend Greg, like I want you to taste this from year to year to year you know, as he's aging it and distilling it and stuff like that.
• 27:14
Speaker 4: It just just amazing.
• 27:17
Speaker 4: Stuff just started happening.
• 27:19
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, all the different experiences where we were um, talking to the people and as we became a little, as our following grew, people started to recognize us.
• 27:33
Speaker 1: But I will tell you, there was a point where I was like, well, there's, there's more than bourbon in Kentucky, there's bourbon in Ohio.
• 27:42
Speaker 1: And this is where, yes, but, but, but I'm like, why am I not doing stuff in Ohio?
• 27:51
Speaker 1: And this is where Ann comes in.
• 27:58
  Speaker 10: Not totally quite.
• 27:59
Speaker 10: I still remember when our head distiller, aaron Harris they make an appearance tonight came over to my desk and brought your email address on a little sheet of paper and he said you should talk to this guy.
• 28:17
  Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
• 28:18
  Speaker 10: Cool.
• 28:19
Speaker 10: And then I went and found your podcast and I listened to an episode where you had gone to beam and it was some sort of knob Creek and it was this little wild one, a little sideways always does always sideways.
• 28:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, this guy sounds pretty good no, no, no, no, that is it, and and it's just been so much fun ever since you guys came up.
• 28:46
Speaker 10: Several times we did big podcasts, um, now I'm with ohlq.
• 28:52
Speaker 10: You are a huge supporter.
• 28:54
Speaker 10: I think my favorite thing ever was your live streams from sleeping in the parking lot saturday and then during the line, interviewing in line what are you here to get?
• 29:10
Speaker 10: And I think wasn't there some woman who was like I'm just here to buy tequila?
• 29:15
  Speaker 2: or something.
• 29:17
Speaker 1: And I said to her you don't need to stand in line for that.
• 29:21
Speaker 10: She got stuck in line that got shared everywhere.
• 29:26
Speaker 2: That was so funny.
• 29:27
Speaker 10: But I mean, I just I love seeing all the stuff you're doing and just such a genuine group of people.
• 29:36
Speaker 10: You invited you and Aaron.
• 29:37
Speaker 10: I just contacted them when I saw what they were doing.
• 30:17
Speaker 1: They had come and they were at, you know.
• 30:19
Speaker 1: So the first thing when I contacted Aaron was I said to him, I said welcome to Ohio and it's great that you're here.
• 30:29
  Speaker 1: I do, I run a podcast.
• 30:30
Speaker 1: But I said what are your plans for Watershed?
• 30:37
Speaker 1: And he kind of went in and I said so, are you going to be, you know, reevaluating the taste profile?
• 30:49
Speaker 1: And he said I've got a really good team to be tasting and, yes, the profile, in my opinion, the inventory will be there to be able to do some really really good bourbon and whiskey.
• 31:11
Speaker 1: And I said, well, if that's what you're doing, I 100% want to be a part of it.
• 31:16
Speaker 1: And so at that point Aaron was such a down-home guy and he contacted me.
• 31:27
Speaker 1: He's going to be coming on next month and he contacted me.
• 31:31
Speaker 1: He's like you know, you're the one of the two or three people that I will do anything to to we push here and you know, with, with Greg, and, and, and then you know we push that.
• 31:55
Speaker 1: This is about this.
• 31:56
Speaker 1: You know, whiskey is the glue, but friendship is the bonds.
• 32:02
Speaker 1: You know, that's what you're in this for is the people and the people who make it, the people, you know people, people who drink it, that make it, the people who sell it it's just like the people in this industry are.
• 32:12
Speaker 1: So what would you say?
• 32:15
  Speaker 1: True, right, genuine.
• 32:16
Speaker 1: So you know, that brings us whiskey right there.
• 32:23
Speaker 1: He came on and he was part of OHLQ Ann.
• 32:29
Speaker 1: So, carl, are you there?
• 32:38
Speaker 1: Yep, and, and we were having uh, I want to say we were doing a tasting at the barrel house.
• 32:42
Speaker 1: So he was in line and we kind of talked and he showed up at the barrel house and I think we were what do you remember what, the what we were tasting there?
• 32:52
Speaker 1: We tasted through a line, one of the lines, of something that she had anyways, but we put that tasting on and you know it's the same place, greg, where you came up and did the tasting for Chicken Cock that one time.
• 33:12
Speaker 1: So I met Whiskey and he kind of was like, hey, how's it going?
• 33:20
Speaker 1: And he talked to me for a good 15, 20 minutes and that's how we started our friendship.
• 33:25
Speaker 1: He just basically came on.
• 33:28
Speaker 1: That's how we started our friendship.
• 33:29
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 33:29
Speaker 1: He just basically came on Whiskey's I would say you know we've done.
• 33:33
Speaker 1: Comes to the festivals.
• 33:35
Speaker 1: He's more of a what was.
• 33:38
Speaker 1: He comes on on important times.
• 33:48
Speaker 4: He's been on the.
• 33:48
Speaker 4: I think you were.
• 33:50
Speaker 4: You know, if we're having, I'm going to bring free whiskey.
• 33:51
  Speaker 4: That's true.
• 33:59
Speaker 4: He did get me a nice jersey that I will.
• 34:00
Speaker 4: I'll be wearing it next, next week.
• 34:00
Speaker 4: Uh, to the chicago cubs game.
• 34:01
Speaker 1: Matter of fact, the scotty bourbon boys jersey and and our backdrop for our tent he supplied, I mean, whiskey.
• 34:09
Speaker 1: Whiskey supports us in very many different ways.
• 34:12
Speaker 1: Although we were just uh, we were just in kentucky for a podcast with ross cornellison at uh 1792, then we ended up at rd1 the next day with uh barry brinegar for a podcast, and then whiskey thief with lisaoper-Wicker, and it was a wild weekend, that's for sure, wouldn't you say Whiskey.
• 34:35
Speaker 7: Yeah, not only did we drink a lot, we drank for a very long period of time.
• 34:41
Speaker 7: I don't think the human body is supposed to drink for 16 hours.
• 34:47
Speaker 6: I just don't think we're built for that.
• 34:49
Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure God didn't intend for that.
• 34:52
Speaker 1: Not at our age.
• 34:54
  Speaker 9: No.
• 34:54
Speaker 1: I don't know, think for yourself, Nash.
• 34:57
  Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I can't forget.
• 35:00
Speaker 4: I think you're as old as we are, but you're not.
• 35:03
Speaker 1: I don't know why we lost.
• 35:04
Speaker 1: I was going to the whiskey doctor, but I want I was going to the whiskey doctor, but I was going to go.
• 35:09
Speaker 9: Okay, but you can say Roxy.
• 35:10
Speaker 1: Yeah well, it's your turn.
• 35:12
Speaker 9: Well, don't do me yet, because all of a sudden one day you told me you were going to somewhere with Walker and I was like who's this Walker guy?
• 35:22
Speaker 9: Like you're going somewhere and staying in a hotel with some guy named Walker.
• 35:31
Speaker 1: So tell them a little bit about like how, how I met walker.
• 35:32
Speaker 9: Yeah, how you met walker?
• 35:33
  Speaker 9: Because that?
• 35:34
Speaker 1: because walker's like you know walker was a was a guy, was a fan on uh and he watched us and he was contacting me and so he basically was going to come up for the Christmas party.
• 35:49
  Speaker 9: That's right.
• 35:50
Speaker 1: So he definitely was coming up and he contracted or was came in contact with COVID and he had.
• 35:58
Speaker 1: He had because he had listened to all the podcasts.
• 36:01
Speaker 1: He felt like he knew us all, so he had presents for us all.
• 36:05
Speaker 1: He had presents for whiskey, had presents ct, super, net, um and bottles.
• 36:10
Speaker 1: I mean, we're talking about, you know, walker.
• 36:12
Speaker 1: Walker loves to share whiskey and here.
• 36:16
  Speaker 4: Here's walker's words.
• 36:17
Speaker 4: Uh, on facebook he says I kind of showed up one night and never left.
• 36:21
Speaker 4: That was finally after discovering the live stream, after about two years of listening.
• 36:27
Speaker 1: That's true well, yeah, it evolved.
• 36:30
  Speaker 1: I mean.
• 36:31
Speaker 1: So first it was once a week and then I was about three.
• 36:40
Speaker 1: It had to be about it.
• 36:42
  Speaker 1: I.
• 36:42
Speaker 1: I had it started to catch on and I'm like, well, if I'm getting 50 views or 50 listens a week, if I do two podcasts I can get a hundred.
• 36:55
Speaker 1: So I started doing it twice a week, but it would be intermittent.
• 37:03
Speaker 1: I mean I didn't always and it wasn't specifically on any day.
• 37:08
Speaker 1: I mean I didn't always and it wasn't specifically on any day.
• 37:12
Speaker 1: And then I started getting committed to it and then at one point we went Facebook Live.
• 37:18
Speaker 1: We were always doing some Facebook Lives, me and Young Nose.
• 37:22
Speaker 1: So then, once Young Nose left and Super Nash had become a part of it, I didn't have anybody locally to sit with me, like Roxy's sitting with me.
• 37:34
Speaker 1: So my friend who was totally into bourbon, xavier, he came on, but there was some issues like him looking like he fell asleep or one night.
• 37:43
Speaker 1: Greg, you could probably remember it was Edwards, john Edwards, I believe.
• 37:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, like the psychic.
• 37:54
Speaker 1: No, no, we're talking about the ex-football linebacker on ESPN.
• 37:58
Speaker 1: He does a bourbon podcast.
• 38:00
Speaker 10: I remember this was a story about the psychic.
• 38:02
Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, but he says to we're on and he goes who's the?
• 38:07
Speaker 1: He comes on and he's sitting there and he does.
• 38:11
Speaker 1: There's a comment that asked who's the dead guy in the seat and that was Xavier.
• 38:17
Speaker 1: So Xavier got really upset but, you know, in defense of his comment, like a month later he had to have quintuple bypass surgery so he would come on back and forth and whatever.
• 38:32
Speaker 1: But then we were at 2023 Kentucky Bourbon Festival, right, was it 2023?
• 38:39
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's coming up 24, 25.
• 38:41
Speaker 1: Yep, this 2022 Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
• 38:45
Speaker 1: And there was just some dispute over something and he left the show, but that was ct's time to come on.
• 38:54
Speaker 1: So it was almost as if, as he left, ct entered and then but the way we met ct was awfully weird also because, yeah, because that was through um super nash and walker.
• 39:08
Speaker 1: He also just inserted himself okay, yeah, but we're talking about pappy you don't have upside down pineapples?
• 39:19
Speaker 9: I haven't seen so we were invited to mother stewart's brewery by, um.
• 39:27
  Speaker 1: Come on, what's?
• 39:28
  Speaker 1: What's his name?
• 39:29
Speaker 1: Um, why am I having a problem?
• 39:30
  Speaker 1: It's a mental note, nash, who's uh ct's friend?
• 39:34
Speaker 1: Come on, uh, andrew.
• 39:37
Speaker 1: Thank the andrew cadman.
• 39:38
Speaker 1: He he liked the podcast so he invited us down.
• 39:42
Speaker 1: It was a charity event at mother stewart's and we signed um and me, xavier and roxy went down.
• 39:50
  Speaker 1: I smoked a cigar.
• 39:51
Speaker 1: Yes, she did that's.
• 39:54
Speaker 1: That's like her, only cigar there's a picture somewhere, yes, there, or there's actually a reel, and so anyways, we're down there and ct was there yeah, but he, he just came up and started talking to us like he had known us forever except for the fact that he also told us which which sealed the deal is that he could get pappy from the barrel out of kentucky, and I'm like you can get pappy from the barrel out of kentucky.
• 40:22
Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm in, I'll come down anytime.
• 40:24
  Speaker 1: I mean, that's just like something that's.
• 40:28
Speaker 4: It's a true story, because I've tasted it.
• 40:32
Speaker 1: Well, yes, we have tasted it.
• 40:34
Speaker 1: But you know, everybody talks about the Pappy Gate and it was a wild turkey barrels.
• 40:39
Speaker 1: Well, obviously, nobody knew, but a Pappy barrel or two disappeared too.
• 40:45
Speaker 1: So it wasn't just bottles, folks.
• 40:47
Speaker 1: But there you go.
• 40:49
Speaker 10: We announced it, but he said he could dan and greg are sitting here shaking our heads.
• 40:57
Speaker 5: I know the players that were involved in pappy gate.
• 41:00
Speaker 5: So hey and uh, trust him as far as I can throw him.
• 41:04
Speaker 5: So hey, get him well, I'm not.
• 41:05
  Speaker 1: I'm not.
• 41:06
Speaker 1: All I can tell you is whatever I did.
• 41:09
Speaker 1: Taste was damn good.
• 41:11
Speaker 1: But I will tell you another thing.
• 41:12
Speaker 1: I'm not naming any names, I'm just saying CT said he could get some and he did.
• 41:18
Speaker 10: There's so much good, not illegal whiskey out there, like there's so much good stuff out there.
• 41:25
Speaker 1: Well, that one, that one that you got, and that's like like just the part of you that you just like.
• 41:31
  Speaker 1: What, Wait, what?
• 41:33
  Speaker 1: Just taste it.
• 41:34
Speaker 1: You know what that's it.
• 41:37
  Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
• 41:40
Speaker 1: You would have believed it.
• 41:41
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 41:44
Speaker 9: Now you can go back to Roxy.
• 41:46
  Speaker 1: Okay, so anyway.
• 41:47
Speaker 1: So anyway, ct becomes part of it.
• 41:50
Speaker 1: And then Roxy, and he never leaves.
• 41:53
Speaker 1: So Roxy can tell you guys she was there from the beginning.
• 41:58
Speaker 1: Her answer was when I told her that I was going to do a podcast, she said you're going to what Right podcast?
• 42:13
Speaker 1: She said you're gonna what right?
• 42:14
Speaker 4: but you know it's funny because, because we did a podcast early on, that's kind of exactly about the same thing.
• 42:17
Speaker 4: My wife said you're gonna do what?
• 42:19
Speaker 1: so, but early on she wasn't a whiskey girl.
• 42:23
Speaker 1: She didn't like whiskey, she liked amaretto drank chardonnay and amaretto but I would just like come upstairs and let her sniff it like just nose it and then watch.
• 42:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, but she would nose it and then take a little sip and then whatever, and eventually she got into.
• 42:44
Speaker 1: It tastes the same and what was your thing?
• 42:46
Speaker 1: If you can't what?
• 42:48
Speaker 9: beat them, join them right and she, but the times that we would go down into whatever, oh it was loads of fun it was just such a blast, and it was actually my idea to go to the very first bourbon festival no, well, it was both, but but you it was her idea.
• 43:06
Speaker 9: It was my idea.
• 43:07
Speaker 1: Well, I had seen it okay, so the calendar, so the.
• 43:10
Speaker 1: So the calendar was september 21st was my birthday, and on the calendar it said the third week in in kentucky is kentucky bourbon festival and what and whatnot.
• 44:08
Speaker 1: So I had seen it and I'm like I really want to go next year because obviously it was happening when I saw it on the calendar, so about two weeks later.
• 44:20
Speaker 9: So I had had the honor of being chosen as a speaker at a birth conference and I had never done that before, and the birth conference was in Lexington, and so it happened to butt up against Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
• 44:40
Speaker 10: That sounds like meant to be.
• 44:42
Speaker 9: Yes, and I said to Jeff you know you wanted to go to that bourbon festival and it happens to butt up against the birth conference that I'm speaking at, so why don't we just go?
• 44:57
Speaker 1: yeah, and I spent every single well, I took every single cent for a year.
• 45:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's, and stole it away.
• 45:06
Speaker 9: Yeah so he would cash his check, give me some money and then squirrel some away like we were, you know, any poorer at the time yeah, yeah, he did up to I.
• 45:18
Speaker 9: I I saved up five my career was not booming like it is today.
• 45:22
Speaker 1: I bought all the tickets to go to go to the beam dinner and a beach lunch I and then I also had the secret bottles from supernav four grand.
• 45:32
Speaker 1: I saved up four grand so I could go to the auction and buy whatever bottles I wanted.
• 45:39
Speaker 1: So that was like.
• 45:41
Speaker 9: But we didn't actually buy anything at the auction, though.
• 45:43
Speaker 1: But we did the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, we did.
• 45:47
Speaker 9: I was at the conference.
• 45:49
  Speaker 1: I finished it.
• 45:50
Speaker 9: Yeah, he finished the Bourbon Trail.
• 45:51
Speaker 1: But we did Lexington, we did Louisville, and at the time it was 16 distilleries with 18 places to go, and we did Louisville and Bardstown together.
• 46:03
Speaker 1: And then when we went to Lexington, you were there, I did all of Lexington, but I had to go to Ozzie Tyler, which is Green River, and Green River is in Owensboro.
• 46:13
Speaker 1: So I got lucked out because Owensboro is in a different time zone.
• 46:17
Speaker 1: So I finished the trail.
• 46:18
Speaker 1: So when I came back from the trail, that's when I met Super Nash, that's when we started the podcast, and so, as we've done the podcast, I have to say, roxy, you've been nothing but spectacular.
• 46:31
Speaker 1: You've really, you know, been so supportive of this um, kept me in line so that, um, I can do this without becoming an alcoholic.
• 46:43
Speaker 1: You know, that's what you need, you need that.
• 46:46
Speaker 1: But you know, cheers, let's, everybody cheers roxy, because there's she, she's done her special things.
• 46:52
Speaker 1: So we've got knobs on tonight and I can't say that he hasn't been a part of this for a long, long time, even before it started here in 1999.
• 47:06
Speaker 2: One second, one second.
• 47:08
Speaker 4: I just want to give a big shout out to Mrs Super Nash here, because I couldn't do any of this without her too.
• 47:16
  Speaker 1: Cheers to Sherry.
• 47:17
  Speaker 1: We love you.
• 47:21
Speaker 7: Honestly, you tried to do it without her and she came anyway.
• 47:28
Speaker 1: You're exactly right, so I'll ask you, greg.
• 47:33
Speaker 4: She was in the same boat that you were.
• 47:36
Speaker 4: She never liked whiskey or anything like that, and she was like you don't know anything about whiskey and bourbon.
• 47:44
Speaker 4: Well, I'm going to learn.
• 47:47
Speaker 4: She's always been from Ventura, california and stuff.
• 47:53
Speaker 4: But now she does like a little bitura, california and stuff.
• 47:55
Speaker 4: But now she does like a little bit of bourbon and stuff and especially my smoked Old Fashions that I make.
• 48:00
Speaker 1: And she likes that Pappy or that Van Winkle 12.
• 48:04
Speaker 1: She likes the Van Winkle 12.
• 48:07
  Speaker 1: Wait, wait.
• 48:10
Speaker 9: Seeing knobs on the screen, doesn't he look like the perfect combination of both of us?
• 48:19
Speaker 8: You cannot say he's got a goatee, maybe.
• 48:26
Speaker 1: Anyways, he looks like Tiny.
• 48:27
Speaker 9: He looks a little bit like Roxy yeah he does, he definitely looks like he belongs.
• 48:30
Speaker 9: Maybe bald with a blonde goatee.
• 48:31
Speaker 5: Looks like he belongs.
• 48:34
Speaker 1: Maybe bald, with a blonde goatee.
• 48:37
Speaker 1: Believe it or not, he has my hair that I had when I was 26 years old.
• 48:42
Speaker 9: Yes, that hair used to be on this head.
• 48:45
Speaker 7: Oh my God, honestly you should get it back.
• 48:49
Speaker 2: Why is it that the boy of the family gets the beautiful ringlet curls right Ann.
• 48:55
Speaker 8: Well, what Not the girls?
• 48:56
  Speaker 8: Not the girls?
• 48:57
  Speaker 8: I lost it at 30, and I'm at 26, so I'm at a pretty good.
• 49:02
Speaker 1: No, you got it wrong 40.
• 49:05
  Speaker 9: 37.
• 49:05
Speaker 9: The island started separating from the mainland at about 37.
• 49:12
Speaker 1: And I had told my cousin.
• 49:14
Speaker 7: This is the 500th episode I gotta say and I had told my cousin.
• 49:16
Speaker 7: This is the 500th episode I got to say from a behind the scenes point of view.
• 49:27
Speaker 7: Not everything we do makes it into a podcast, and there are some things that should probably be better left unseen.
• 49:34
Speaker 7: But, jeff, you need to.
• 49:35
Speaker 7: You need to allow me to share my screen.
• 49:37
Speaker 1: Oh no, here it comes, do it, do it.
• 49:41
Speaker 1: Okay, hold on, hold on.
• 49:43
Speaker 1: I got to let them.
• 49:43
  Speaker 1: Here it goes.
• 49:44
Speaker 1: I'm going to give you permission.
• 49:49
Speaker 2: Oh God, here, oh God.
• 49:50
Speaker 1: I'm going to be in so much trouble, although, are we going to talk about are we doing something from Halloween.
• 50:00
  Speaker 5: This is entertainment.
• 50:01
Speaker 5: Whiskey has started straight oh.
• 50:06
Speaker 7: Maybe there's just sometimes that I mean look at those Holy cow, Holy cow, that's a whole lot of, that's a whole lot of.
• 50:16
Speaker 9: Nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple, nipple.
• 50:20
  Speaker 8: Geographic documentary.
• 50:22
Speaker 8: Yeah, are there whale noise in?
• 50:26
  Speaker 2: the background.
• 50:27
Speaker 7: Yes, I know, yeah, so I'm just going to say, yeah, that's a whole lot of us there they go, there it goes.
• 50:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say so too.
• 50:46
Speaker 7: Honestly, I haven't seen breasts that big since the last time I went to a strip club.
• 50:49
Speaker 7: Oh my God, oh my God, anyways.
• 50:51
Speaker 1: So did we lose Ann?
• 50:53
Speaker 1: Oh my God, oh my God.
• 50:55
Speaker 1: Anyways, so did we lose Ann.
• 50:59
Speaker 1: Thank you, Whiskey, for sharing that.
• 51:02
  Speaker 1: Okay, she's back, she's back.
• 51:06
Speaker 2: Sharing is caring, right yeah, sharing is caring, it doesn't get wrong.
• 51:13
Speaker 1: She didn't want to see all that.
• 51:16
Speaker 4: What you care about is an old, old story.
• 51:21
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 51:21
Speaker 1: So Knobs has been the newest addition because I really feel that it's kind of cool to bring in somebody younger.
• 51:32
Speaker 1: Our actual demographic is 24 to 35.
• 51:38
Speaker 1: That's our main demographic.
• 51:39
Speaker 1: Uh, sometimes, when I look at all the different places that we have um, what, what happened?
• 51:47
Speaker 1: Okay, where we have um, hold on all right.
• 51:52
Speaker 1: So, oh my gosh, I don't have no idea.
• 51:56
Speaker 8: I came in and how many episodes before I was in here, could you just not hear the barrel bashing?
• 52:01
Speaker 1: well, well, I mean, he was he.
• 52:06
Speaker 1: He knew I was doing this so early on 470 what yeah something yeah, so yeah him yeah 470 something
• 52:15
Speaker 1: yeah, so him and his friend Jacob, who we would call, who we called the kid, and at the time you like Jen um Talk about, about the cock flock, the cock flock up.
• 52:29
  Speaker 1: Right that episode.
• 52:31
Speaker 1: But, um, you know, actually actually Greg met Jacob and Nobs early on because we had an episode.
• 52:45
  Speaker 1: I'm sorry, greg.
• 52:46
Speaker 1: And so the young people have the younger generation has a different whole take on what's happening with bourbon, but the key is that I have, like I converted my wife, I converted my son into a bourbon enthusiast.
• 53:07
Speaker 8: You give enough free bottles away.
• 53:09
Speaker 8: What am I going to say?
• 53:11
  Speaker 8: No.
• 53:12
Speaker 1: You actually did Just a minute.
• 53:15
Speaker 9: Every time we went to a distillery, I brought you home a bottle of gin.
• 53:19
Speaker 8: Right, I know they were very good bottles.
• 53:21
Speaker 8: A lot of distilleries do gin really well.
• 53:25
  Speaker 1: Actually.
• 53:27
Speaker 10: And OHLQ is having a series of gin events next weekend.
• 53:34
Speaker 8: My wife is still a liker of gin More than bourbon.
• 53:39
Speaker 8: We're working on it.
• 53:41
Speaker 10: If Ellie ever joins.
• 53:43
Speaker 9: I got a name for her.
• 53:44
Speaker 9: Her name is Stitch.
• 53:46
Speaker 1: Stitch, I'll see how she likes that, yeah, but I will say, and you're right, I will say the best gin is being made, probably at craft distilleries.
• 54:01
Speaker 1: Yes, craft distilleries do some creative things with gin to make it actually.
• 54:09
Speaker 1: For me, I mean, I'm just for one, I'm out on clear spirits because of the health concern.
• 54:18
  Speaker 1: Just kidding, anyways.
• 54:20
Speaker 1: But at the same time, if you're, if you're, if you love bourbon, and then you like some rise, and then you're, you're tasting Japanese scotch, you know, you just can't.
• 54:33
Speaker 1: Whatever Israeli is going to be on with soon, with the whiskey doc, or Irish whiskey which.
• 54:42
Speaker 1: Which we did which which which Ohio.
• 54:45
Speaker 1: So and I've noticed Ohio has jumpstarted Irish whiskey because it's actually actually I've seen articles on that it's becoming hot like the irish whiskey.
• 55:00
Speaker 1: You guys kind of showed them what they needed to do to sell more irish whiskey in in the united states yes, yeah.
• 55:08
Speaker 10: So irish casking craft was really fun and we had a whole bunch of distillers come over here.
• 55:14
Speaker 10: They brought single casks they brought.
• 55:17
Speaker 10: It was basically like created for the bourbon enthusiasts.
• 55:21
Speaker 10: That being said, some of the top selling things at our irish cask and craft events were the irish gin.
• 55:30
  Speaker 10: Yes, so funny.
• 55:34
  Speaker 10: Um.
• 55:35
Speaker 10: So we have gin topia coming up, not this weekend but next weekend, and we have some some new.
• 55:43
Speaker 10: Well, we have some of our favorite irish gins are going to be there.
• 55:47
Speaker 10: We have some some other craft gins and we have some new scottish gins that are coming in.
• 55:54
Speaker 10: There's one in particular.
• 55:56
Speaker 10: I should run downstairs and go get the bottle.
• 55:58
Speaker 10: I'm so excited, but very exciting, absolutely.
• 56:04
Speaker 10: Yes so we can all be ecumenical about spirits.
• 56:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, we all love bourbon.
• 56:12
  Speaker 10: We know that.
• 56:13
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, we all love bourbon.
• 56:15
Speaker 1: We know that, yeah, yeah, no, there's a place for good quality spirits, just like, for instance, tequila aged in bourbon barrels, you know, or mezcal.
• 56:27
Speaker 1: They've really, I think, one of my favorite things, other than I was always a rum guy.
• 56:36
Speaker 1: I always said that I should have been a pirate, because, you probably were in a past life I, I can drink rum all day long and it doesn't.
• 56:45
Speaker 1: I wake up then.
• 56:46
Speaker 1: It just has no ill effects on me.
• 56:47
Speaker 1: So and that's what I drank early on, uh, before I started getting into absent then bourbon, bourbon.
• 56:54
Speaker 1: But what Turner Wathen does and that was one of the cool things having Turner on what he does with rum and then ages it in some fantastic Woodford 00 casks, weller casks, pappy casks, casks, weller casks, pappy casks and that just changes that rum to be that perfect marriage of bourbon with rum.
• 57:21
Speaker 1: Rum already has all the vanilla flavors in it, you know, and then you put in the caramel flavors from that bourbon and it's some spectacular kind of things that go on and so kind of uh things that go on.
• 57:40
Speaker 1: And so you know, here that's one thing that was really cool.
• 57:42
Speaker 1: It's like with this year we were ranked the 16th best bourbon uh podcast, uh, out there out of 100.
• 57:50
Speaker 1: We we went from 31 to 16 this year.
• 57:53
Speaker 1: But in as far as whiskey podcasts, where you taste all whiskeys, we were ranked number three out of the 60 whiskey podcasts that are out there.
• 58:05
Speaker 4: So getting that ranking, I'd like to add we're in the top 50 bourbon podcast now in the world and we are in the top 70 distillers podcast in the world.
• 58:21
Speaker 4: I just got that email about six weeks ago.
• 58:26
  Speaker 9: Awesome.
• 58:27
Speaker 1: What was that Ann?
• 58:29
Speaker 10: It was like wait, what's number two, what's number one with that one?
• 58:35
  Speaker 1: They were Scotch.
• 58:36
Speaker 1: They were Scotch, they were in Scotland.
• 58:39
  Speaker 9: Scotland.
• 58:39
Speaker 9: Yeah, there was a podcast from Scotland.
• 58:42
Speaker 4: And I'd like to add something to what Anne was saying is that you know, honestly, without vodka and gin really bourbon and whiskey this industry, you know they need those to survive in their industry because it takes so long for bourbon and whiskey to age in the barrels and they all produce vodka, I texted him Most all of them produce those at the distilleries.
• 59:14
Speaker 4: Texted in Most all of them produce those at the distilleries and to sell them as they age their bourbon and whiskey.
• 59:22
Speaker 4: So, and you know us, we love to promote the industry.
• 59:25
Speaker 10: That's what we're here for Well some feel compelled to release things before maybe they're ready, and so having a great gin, things before maybe they're ready, and so having a great gin, having a great vodka allows them to let things linger in the barrel maybe a little longer.
• 59:42
Speaker 8: Yes, Well for the distillery in my backyard, the Iron.
• 59:48
Speaker 8: Fish they have a great gin.
• 59:51
  Speaker 8: It's fantastic.
• 59:53
Speaker 10: I have that one downstairs.
• 59:55
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, that's 10 minutes away from me.
• 59:57
Speaker 1: It's right in my backyard oh well, and where you live.
• 1:00:02
Speaker 1: So so, yeah, where he lives, and you're up there in michigan too, so you, so we went the this past, when we were up there two weeks ago, and we're going up and I'm going to do a podcast with jeff.
• 1:00:15
Speaker 1: Um, either the friday we get up there or the monday it looks like it might be the monday, but at the same time, what the?
• 1:00:22
Speaker 1: You know, what I found, and greg, and and and it I'll just say this is that, as a craft distillery starts what, what or or a starts up, you're dealing with a lot of stuff that a brand that's been around forever is no longer dealing with, and you've got to get that jump started.
• 1:00:48
Speaker 1: And what you've done, greg, now you're going into your second term.
• 1:00:55
Speaker 1: As far as doing that One, it's like you got one.
• 1:01:00
Speaker 1: You got to have somebody who knows good whiskey and Anne you can talk about.
• 1:01:05
  Speaker 1: I was.
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: I was very proud of you this year because you got to do the Ascot Awards.
• 1:01:12
Speaker 1: A judge on the Ascot Awards, right.
• 1:01:19
Speaker 10: Oh, my goodness, I'm sitting here listening and I'm like, yeah, I'm a 23 year old.
• 1:01:21
Speaker 10: If you invited my kid on here, I'd hear similar things, yeah, so I got to do the ascot awards this year.
• 1:01:29
Speaker 10: I did it last year, but this year, I did it last year, but this year I got to go to the finals where we taste through everything, and that is a great series of spirits, because everything is blind.
• 1:01:45
Speaker 10: So there's no influence of fantastic packaging which I love and it really is on what is the liquid, what's the quality of the liquid compared to other things.
• 1:01:58
Speaker 1: so, and it was a great group of tasters- oh, awesome, yeah, and it was just like actually her highlight.
• 1:02:07
Speaker 1: She did what she needed to do to get get highlighted.
• 1:02:10
Speaker 1: It was, it was complete she.
• 1:02:12
Speaker 1: She talked about some, but what say what your highlight was?
• 1:02:16
Speaker 1: It was about you were gonna.
• 1:02:17
Speaker 1: If you were, you were gonna.
• 1:02:19
Speaker 10: You brought it right in in two full days of tasting and we're spitting as we're doing this, but in two long days of tasting one little clip got pulled out where I offered to fight the other judges over.
• 1:02:38
Speaker 10: If anybody's pulling this out, I'm gonna fight you that was the big highlight reel so and I love fred, gotta love, that's awesome yes, got a good stick to your guts, that's right well, that's our personality.
• 1:02:57
Speaker 1: It's like what greg said stick to your guns.
• 1:02:59
Speaker 10: That's awesome it was pretty funny because that was from the first day and we shared an uber over to where we were filming the second day.
• 1:03:07
Speaker 10: Fred's in the car and he's like I really didn't expect a new judge to bring the heat like maybe you did.
• 1:03:18
  Speaker 1: Brought the personality.
• 1:03:19
  Speaker 1: It was fun.
• 1:03:20
  Speaker 1: All right, nobs.
• 1:03:21
  Speaker 1: All right, nobs.
• 1:03:22
Speaker 1: Tell me what your.
• 1:03:25
Speaker 1: So give the perspective of your whole time, from the start to finish.
• 1:03:31
  Speaker 1: Oh, no.
• 1:03:32
Speaker 8: You could just the start to finish, because you could, just so I was.
• 1:03:41
Speaker 8: I was only attracted to gin at first because they hated it, and that's the one thing in the cabinet they didn't really notice was gone.
• 1:03:46
Speaker 8: So, as a 16, 17, 18 year old you, I won't say anything more than that, you know, it's just.
• 1:03:57
Speaker 8: You could take the bottle and no one would say anything.
• 1:04:00
Speaker 8: Everything else, the rum, especially.
• 1:04:09
Speaker 8: At that time there would be hell brought down on you, of course, but it wasn't until the pandemic where I turned.
• 1:04:13
Speaker 8: I think it was actually wasn't my 21st birthday.
• 1:04:15
  Speaker 8: It was actually.
• 1:04:15
Speaker 8: Was it my 21st birthday, dad?
• 1:04:17
Speaker 8: Or was it my 22nd birthday?
• 1:04:20
Speaker 1: You got me the bottle.
• 1:04:21
Speaker 1: No, that was your 21st birthday 21st birthday.
• 1:04:24
Speaker 8: My 21st birthday my dad got me a Knob Creek that was bottled on the day I was born.
• 1:04:33
Speaker 1: It was barreled later but it was bottled on the day you were born.
• 1:04:37
Speaker 9: No barreled on the day you were born.
• 1:04:39
  Speaker 8: Yes, barreled.
• 1:04:40
Speaker 8: I still have that bottle.
• 1:04:41
Speaker 8: It's upstairs right on my little end table, right you know, shown off still.
• 1:04:48
Speaker 8: But that was going to be during COVID and that was my first introduction to it and it was terrible.
• 1:04:55
Speaker 8: At the start I was I was buying not your father's root beers and putting a shot of cause.
• 1:05:04
Speaker 8: All I knew in college was shots.
• 1:05:06
Speaker 8: I was putting a shot of it into a not your father's root beer just to increase the proof, and it wasn't until much later on that I realized gin gave me bad hangovers.
• 1:05:21
Speaker 1: I explained this to you a couple times.
• 1:05:24
  Speaker 1: Why?
• 1:05:26
Speaker 8: Yes, you have, but bourbon didn't.
• 1:05:28
Speaker 8: So, even though I didn't like the taste of it that much- I would rather have a Knob 9 than a gin, because I would wake up the next morning feeling better.
• 1:05:41
Speaker 8: And then, as time went, on.
• 1:05:44
  Speaker 8: I got a wife, a family, a house, a lot more responsibilities.
• 1:05:49
Speaker 8: It was it started to taste better.
• 1:05:55
Speaker 8: I don't know if it's just, you know, the palate changing of me getting older or if it was, you know, drinking enough of it got me to taste different things in it.
• 1:06:09
Speaker 8: But of course, every time I would visit my dad he'd give me what.
• 1:06:15
Speaker 8: Of course, every time I would visit my dad, he'd give me what three or four pours at first I really liked.
• 1:06:20
Speaker 8: I mean chicken, cock, the cock, the cock.
• 1:06:21
Speaker 8: Flock me, jacob and you.
• 1:06:23
Speaker 8: Uh, that was like the first, really big, like okay, this is tasty, this is something that isn't.
• 1:06:28
Speaker 8: You don't need a chaser right afterwards, you know.
• 1:06:32
Speaker 8: You don't need a coke or a Mountain Dew to wash out the taste out of your mouth.
• 1:06:36
Speaker 8: You can actually enjoy it.
• 1:06:40
Speaker 1: That's a shout out to Greg right there.
• 1:06:43
Speaker 4: I was about to say.
• 1:06:44
Speaker 4: I guarantee you, greg can definitely tell you exactly why it tastes better and why bourbon and whiskey is so much more palatable.
• 1:06:58
Speaker 5: So I remember that podcast.
• 1:07:00
  Speaker 3: Yes, you do.
• 1:07:01
Speaker 5: I do and you know I'm thinking, I'm listening to these guys.
• 1:07:07
Speaker 5: You know kind of I won't say novice, but young bourbon breakers, and there were some comments made and some sarcastic notes about the name and Tiny you'll remember this I said I told Seth Drake, I said, oh, grasshopper, you need to live and learn and experience and enjoy what you have been provided.
• 1:07:49
  Speaker 6: Greg did.
• 1:07:49
Speaker 6: He know what grasshopper meant.
• 1:07:52
  Speaker 2: No.
• 1:07:53
  Speaker 6: You remember?
• 1:07:54
Speaker 1: Kung Fu oh, we do, but he has no idea.
• 1:07:57
Speaker 1: He has no idea, do you?
• 1:08:03
Speaker 8: wax on, wax off, yeah no, that's we're talking.
• 1:08:07
Speaker 1: We're talking about david caridin and kung fu yeah, way before that grasshopper like the 70.
• 1:08:15
Speaker 7: Honestly, you're probably lucky he didn't throat punch you.
• 1:08:23
Speaker 9: You know what my dad would, because I was always a night owl.
• 1:08:30
Speaker 9: We'd stay up late and watch kung fu movies in the 70s, from like when I was 10.
• 1:08:37
Speaker 9: And he loved the 70s kung fu.
• 1:08:46
Speaker 1: Was that on, and then Starsky and Hutch right after that.
• 1:08:52
Speaker 6: And then MASH after all that.
• 1:08:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, mash, m it was a late night, yeah for me late night was george lopez all right, so we got, so we um so our newest.
• 1:09:17
Speaker 4: We've got uh knobs in and roxy and tiny we gotta get whiskey.
• 1:09:23
  Speaker 4: Doctor let's listen.
• 1:09:26
  Speaker 4: How about whiskey?
• 1:09:27
Speaker 4: Whiskey, let's listen to.
• 1:09:31
Speaker 4: I mean, tiny said a little bit about how he met you, but let's hear a little bit of take on what you've got to say about coming into the Scotchie Bourbon Boys.
• 1:09:45
Speaker 7: I'm just glad to be here.
• 1:09:46
Speaker 7: Hope I can help the ball club.
• 1:09:50
Speaker 1: And you 100% do that.
• 1:09:51
Speaker 1: Provide us with unlimited entertainment.
• 1:09:55
Speaker 9: Yes, 100% do that and I, and so Provide us with unlimited entertainment.
• 1:09:58
Speaker 1: Yes, you are entertaining sometimes.
• 1:10:06
Speaker 7: You know, you know on that note Jeff before you finish that thought, I just want to tell you that the real origin of this podcast is because Jeff tried to become famous a bunch of different ways.
• 1:10:15
Speaker 7: So, for instance, here is Jeff.
• 1:10:19
Speaker 7: Oh God, he tries to become Tiny Woods.
• 1:10:27
Speaker 2: Did you miss the ball altogether?
• 1:10:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no yeah, that was a practice stroke.
• 1:10:34
  Speaker 1: Oh, that's a 10-year-old.
• 1:10:35
Speaker 7: Oh, it happened, that was a practice stroke.
• 1:10:40
Speaker 1: That's a tenure that was just recent.
• 1:10:46
Speaker 7: I mean, come on.
• 1:10:47
Speaker 7: So his career as Tiny Woods didn't work out so well, and so here we are, he's Tiny of scotchy bourbon boys instead.
• 1:10:55
Speaker 7: So there you go that was perfect, perfect but okay.
• 1:11:00
  Speaker 1: So we've got.
• 1:11:01
Speaker 1: We've got the whiskey doctor here and he is the newest addition and uh walker introduced me to uh him and one of the things that he's very unique he comes with a huge amount of knowledge based off of traveling around this country.
• 1:11:29
Speaker 1: Here's an example Two weekends ago he was in Florida he lives in Florida and Dan Garrison was there for a tasting.
• 1:11:44
Speaker 1: He went there and met him and Dan invited him to the special Saturday party.
• 1:11:53
Speaker 1: It was an event to raise money for the flood victims of Texas.
• 1:12:00
Speaker 1: Because Garrison Brothers is in Texas.
• 1:12:02
Speaker 1: He basically hopped a flight, had a 15-hour delay, drove to Garrison Brothers, met Dan Garrison as he was leaving the event, set up a podcast and had Dan send us a bottle of the Guadalupe.
• 1:12:18
Speaker 1: So we are going to have Dan Garrison on at the end of the month and that's the kind of stuff that the whiskey doctor so.
• 1:12:26
Speaker 1: But my idea to get him on the podcast was he loves other whiskeys he has so his collection.
• 1:12:35
Speaker 1: He loves bourbon to an extent.
• 1:12:38
  Speaker 1: That's crazy.
• 1:12:39
Speaker 1: I still can't believe that his wife lets him get all the bourbon that he gets, but she does.
• 1:12:46
Speaker 1: But he also picks up other whiskeys that I would never ever have a shot at.
• 1:12:52
Speaker 1: So, anne, do we sell an Israeli whiskey here in Ohio?
• 1:13:00
  Speaker 2: Do not know.
• 1:13:02
  Speaker 1: No.
• 1:13:07
Speaker 6: So M&H, which stands for milk and honey, is an Israeli whiskey that Total Wines carries, I know for sure, so it's pretty readily available.
• 1:13:17
Speaker 6: So I would think that may be one that you guys have.
• 1:13:23
Speaker 10: So we just there was an app for that.
• 1:13:28
Speaker 1: You did just recently, just recently there is.
• 1:13:33
Speaker 1: So the one you, as Ann opens her.
• 1:13:38
Speaker 1: So one of the things that's very unique, um, about the whiskey doctor, and so I came up with it, was whiskey without borders.
• 1:13:47
Speaker 1: So once a month, uh, we are going to to.
• 1:13:52
Speaker 1: Our first was last month.
• 1:13:54
Speaker 1: It's going to be the beginning of this, is it?
• 1:13:56
Speaker 1: Oh, no, actually it's once every two months because of the shipping that he has, and when we meet or whatever, we're doing it every other month.
• 1:14:05
Speaker 1: But we're going to be highlighting different countries and I believe the first Tuesday coming up in August, we will be highlighting the M&H whiskey from Israel.
• 1:14:22
Speaker 1: So it's like talk about Randy I mean I remember the first time I met you and talk about how you learned about the Scotchy Bourbon Boys.
• 1:14:37
Speaker 6: Well, my phone just blinked at me 15%.
• 1:14:39
Speaker 6: Um, I'll do what I can.
• 1:14:42
Speaker 6: When I die I'll go grab my charger.
• 1:14:43
Speaker 6: I just came straight up to the room but I met walker in line at heaven hill one saturday morning it was supposed to friday night slash saturday morning it was supposed to be raining at 3 am so I went out and bought bought a 5x7 patio umbrella and set it up out there and put my cot up under it.
• 1:15:04
  Speaker 1: And.
• 1:15:04
Speaker 6: I wake up in the middle of the night and look, and there's this guy sitting beside me.
• 1:15:08
Speaker 6: And I look at him and he's a clean cut and I thought, well, he's either military or a Nazi, We'll find out.
• 1:15:16
Speaker 6: So we start talking.
• 1:15:20
Speaker 6: I find out he's a captain in the yard, so we get it off because my dad was.
• 1:15:27
  Speaker 8: Army Colonel.
• 1:15:28
  Speaker 4: Hey, welcome Aaron.
• 1:15:29
  Speaker 4: Oh, hold on.
• 1:15:34
Speaker 1: Why did you all listen?
• 1:15:43
Speaker 6: Aaron, you are not muted.
• 1:15:45
Speaker 6: Oh Aaron, You're filling people in Once you get inside.
• 1:15:48
Speaker 1: I don't even see him yet Wait.
• 1:15:54
Speaker 7: But I don't actually see him on the you should he's coming in and like they will have them, but I don't actually see him on the you should.
• 1:16:04
Speaker 1: Do you see him over here?
• 1:16:05
Speaker 1: Do you see Aaron?
• 1:16:06
  Speaker 1: That's alright.
• 1:16:08
Speaker 1: I want him to come on, I will uh figure it out when he comes on.
• 1:16:23
Speaker 7: And yeah, he can't talk okay, the microphone's not on yet I met walker in line.
• 1:16:31
  Speaker 6: We started talking.
• 1:16:32
Speaker 6: Uh, he had me start watching a podcast and the first podcast I was actually on.
• 1:16:38
Speaker 6: I was driving up to tennessee and then probably on up to kentucky and I decided to go up through south carolina and it's it's to drop a bottle off to super nash and it's snowing, and he's in the middle of nowhere and I walk in just to drop the bottle off and he says pull the chair up.
• 1:17:01
Speaker 6: So then, we're actually looking at the three Revival and Refuge and the other Angels Envy in that little trio that they have.
• 1:17:16
Speaker 6: We were reviewing that and then it was late and I kind of felt like Roxanne.
• 1:17:27
Speaker 4: He invited me to spend the night so I didn't have to drive.
• 1:17:29
Speaker 4: There he is and I'm like he's like hey, is this guy trying to?
• 1:17:33
Speaker 2: get me in here.
• 1:17:35
  Speaker 6: I didn't lock the door.
• 1:17:36
Speaker 6: I'll admit I locked the door in the bedroom Like that's really going to stop somebody if they want in.
• 1:17:41
Speaker 6: But we've become a great friend ever since.
• 1:17:45
Speaker 6: Can't wait until next week when we're all together at baseball, looking very, very forward to bringing some wonderful whiskeys from Europe, from Asia, from New, from Asia, from New Zealand, from Australia Just all over, looking forward to the next year or two.
• 1:18:06
Speaker 6: It's going to be great fun.
• 1:18:10
  Speaker 1: So yes.
• 1:18:12
Speaker 1: So it was like through Walker we met.
• 1:18:16
Speaker 1: And then I would say, initially, when I when I met, so I met, I remember talking to randy at our airbnb and he started talking about craft distilleries and he started asking me if I've been here, if I've been there.
• 1:18:37
Speaker 1: At one point I was like after like the 35th craft distillery he was telling me about, I was like I'm like that's a lot of craft distilleries, randy and I kind of whatever.
• 1:18:56
Speaker 1: So when I talked to Walker, he's like yeah, he knows a lot about whiskey.
• 1:19:01
Speaker 1: So I was very happy to meet Randy and I would say, randy, you have fit in very well.
• 1:19:08
Speaker 1: I am glad that I met you.
• 1:19:14
Speaker 1: It's like it's always good to get a text from you, because this man is in between.
• 1:19:20
Speaker 1: So he he's not working at the moment, he's retired, but he got his doctorate degree and he's looking for a job.
• 1:19:32
Speaker 1: But until he gets the job he is going to be all over the United States.
• 1:19:38
  Speaker 1: There's no place.
• 1:19:39
Speaker 1: I don't think he will go to get you know.
• 1:19:42
  Speaker 1: He's like.
• 1:19:43
Speaker 1: I'm like are you coming on?
• 1:19:44
Speaker 1: He's like no, I'm going to be driving to this thing.
• 1:19:47
Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, you should come to this thing.
• 1:19:49
Speaker 1: And he's like well, but I want to be in line for this.
• 1:19:51
Speaker 1: I'm like I promise you this will be better than a line Now.
• 1:19:55
  Speaker 1: He, he.
• 1:19:55
Speaker 1: So far he follows my advice, so it's been.
• 1:19:58
Speaker 1: It's been really good.
• 1:19:59
Speaker 1: Uh, the whiskey doctor um, great to have you a part of of what's going on.
• 1:20:05
Speaker 1: So good to be with all of you.
• 1:20:08
Speaker 1: Aaron harris has joined us and hey guys.
• 1:20:14
  Speaker 4: Hey, everybody welcome.
• 1:20:15
Speaker 4: Aaron harris from green, everybody welcome.
• 1:20:19
  Speaker 1: Aaron Harris from.
• 1:20:22
  Speaker 8: Green River.
• 1:20:33
Speaker 6: I'm going to mute for just a second and go get my luggage so I can get my charger, because my phone's going to die otherwise.
• 1:20:40
  Speaker 6: Alright, bro.
• 1:20:42
Speaker 1: So, Aaron, so I would say that how we met, it's like you.
• 1:20:51
Speaker 1: I saw on through Facebook that you had become the master distiller at Watershed and I basically looked you up on Facebook and I friended you.
• 1:21:09
Speaker 1: You accepted my friendship and I'm like hmm, he regrets that ever since.
• 1:21:13
Speaker 1: I can messenger this guy.
• 1:21:15
Speaker 1: He's not shy, he's not shy.
• 1:21:20
  Speaker 9: He's not shy.
• 1:21:21
Speaker 1: And so I messengered you and you almost I think you were actually on Facebook because I messaged you, I kind of had a big long thing for Facebook.
• 1:21:32
Speaker 1: I'm tiny, from the scotchie bourbon boys, and I swear to God I pushed the button and within like 30 seconds he responded and I was just like, well, that's interesting to see that he was responding to me and I mean honestly, uh, how you know everything that we've gone through and and uh, everything that we've gone through and and uh, and the friendship that that we've uh you know, formed it's been nothing.
• 1:22:16
Speaker 3: But why I'm into, why I love bourbon and whiskey?
• 1:22:19
Speaker 3: Because of exactly that thought that was gonna be.
• 1:22:21
Speaker 7: Why are we friends?
• 1:22:21
Speaker 1: I mean it's the bourbon ball, so he spreads because of the bourbon balls, right.
• 1:22:26
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's the bourbon balls.
• 1:22:27
Speaker 9: We bribed him with bourbon balls.
• 1:22:32
Speaker 7: Is that what you call, that Rash so?
• 1:22:39
Speaker 1: Aaron, we have to make some green river bourbon balls for you when we see you, we got some green river, we can get some, oh I always have green river so use the green river's weighted bourbon so what, what, what's you know?
• 1:22:56
Speaker 1: Recollection of you know, of being, you know, of the Scotchy Bourbon Boys.
• 1:23:05
Speaker 4: That's a whole lot of char in there.
• 1:23:13
Speaker 3: You know what really just being introduced to your platform and being, you know, introduced to your personality, your candor, the way that you all make people feel like a family that you've just met, that was the best kind of people I could be around as a new distiller in a new state doing something you know new.
• 1:23:38
Speaker 3: And, you know, after moving from everything we do and coming into a new place, you know, tug at my heartstrings a little bit because you guys were very welcoming for me and have been welcoming for me everywhere I've been.
• 1:23:54
Speaker 3: So, you know I truly cherish our friendship and can't wait to wait to keep seeing, you know, keep growing and keep seeing your success.
• 1:24:05
Speaker 1: Well, I mean honestly, um, there's no doubt.
• 1:24:08
Speaker 1: Uh, I, you and Ann together are the reason why I understand.
• 1:24:17
Speaker 1: You guys gave me the view of how important the people that are there and their palates.
• 1:24:29
Speaker 1: You can take one.
• 1:24:34
Speaker 1: You have to make whiskey good, but you also have to have somebody who knows what tastes good.
• 1:24:42
Speaker 1: And what you guys did at Watershed and then what you turned around and have through the team you have there and through the great support system you have at Green River, the spectacular whiskey that you keep putting out, and then what you put out with Ann at Watershed, it's, it's kind of like that made me understand a lot of what's going on in the industry.
• 1:25:08
  Speaker 1: It's, it's, it's the people.
• 1:25:10
Speaker 1: The distilling process is very important, but the people putting out the whiskey if you don't care about the whiskey and you think it can be done on a spreadsheet, you're full of shit.
• 1:25:22
Speaker 1: It's just that much simple and those aren't the kind of people I want to know.
• 1:25:26
Speaker 1: I want to know the people who put out the whiskey and care about the whiskey, like Greg here, like you, aaron, and then Anne, what you've done through the state of Ohio, although you're not like part of the process of the tasting or whatever, but you're willing to help anybody anywhere and that's something that is special.
• 1:25:52
Speaker 1: And you know everybody here tonight.
• 1:25:53
Speaker 1: The reason why you guys are, the reason why I'm into this, why I keep doing it it's like the bourbon once again is the is just the glue.
• 1:26:05
Speaker 1: The actual thing is your family and your friends.
• 1:26:08
Speaker 1: And you know, before I got into this I didn't.
• 1:26:12
Speaker 1: I had a couple friends, right.
• 1:26:15
Speaker 9: Oh yeah, yeah, I had friends you know, and I still there's.
• 1:26:18
Speaker 1: Most of them are still my friends, most of them.
• 1:26:22
Speaker 1: But but you know, but at the same time, I've met so many people, and so many quality people, and everybody that you meet in the bourbon industry that you that most, for the most part, they care about life and about living, and that's why, when you drink bourbon from the United States, the good stuff these are the people that give a shit about what they're putting on the shelf right.
• 1:26:53
  Speaker 10: And that's you.
• 1:26:53
Speaker 10: But I already told the story earlier tonight about how you brought over Jeff's email on a little flip of paper to me.
• 1:27:04
Speaker 10: You should reach out to this guy here you go and the rest is history, right I?
• 1:27:14
Speaker 3: would say, that's how people have become presidents of the United States, exactly.
• 1:27:17
Speaker 3: Just a little note.
• 1:27:22
Speaker 10: I was just there, aaron was running it.
• 1:27:25
Speaker 10: I'm like, okay, I'll tell you.
• 1:27:29
Speaker 3: And let me come in and share some glory.
• 1:27:31
Speaker 3: That was all that was.
• 1:27:34
Speaker 1: Well, I remember you changed my mind on rye Aaron.
• 1:27:38
Speaker 1: It's like when we got into that rye barrel.
• 1:27:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just thinking about that.
• 1:27:44
Speaker 4: When we went back there and we got into those rye barrels and that one rye barrel that we feed from with the little copper tubing, that's all we had.
• 1:27:55
Speaker 4: It wasn't even a feed, it was a copper, yeah.
• 1:27:58
Speaker 3: It wasn't even a thief, it was a copper.
• 1:28:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, it had an angle on it.
• 1:28:03
Speaker 1: Plus, there was a A little piece of copper too, and then somehow there was a cat involved.
• 1:28:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, that cat was in there and that changed Jeff's mind on rye forever yeah, pretty sure that could have been a lottery, uh, but we were tasting there yeah, yeah, I actually I still have that bottle.
• 1:28:35
Speaker 1: I got that, got that first batch of rye.
• 1:28:37
Speaker 1: So when we see you coming up real soon at Kentucky Bourbon Festival, I should bring that bottle down and we should sip a little bit of that.
• 1:28:50
Speaker 9: All right, agree, we could make some decent Green River Bourbon Balls between now and then.
• 1:28:56
Speaker 1: All right, that's what we're going to do.
• 1:28:59
Speaker 9: I'll put the pecans in tonight.
• 1:29:00
  Speaker 1: What was that?
• 1:29:04
Speaker 10: I said we've got Aaron on the podcast.
• 1:29:08
  Speaker 10: What's coming up?
• 1:29:08
  Speaker 10: What's?
• 1:29:09
  Speaker 4: coming up for.
• 1:29:10
  Speaker 10: Goon River.
• 1:29:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you got any like oh yeah, and tell us about what's coming up next week.
• 1:29:15
Speaker 4: You know Also, yeah, what's coming up.
• 1:29:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, you about what's coming up next week, you know.
• 1:29:19
Speaker 3: So, yeah, what's coming, you know.
• 1:29:20
  Speaker 3: I think it's Thursday night.
• 1:29:21
Speaker 3: I check into the Buckeye Bourbon House and I'm going to have a hell of a couple you know day and a half Bringing up some a wheelbarrow full of single barrel samples for OHLQ to pick through Wait, a second Wait, a second Wait a second Ann, wait what?
• 1:29:44
Speaker 1: Ann, how can I get invited to that?
• 1:29:48
Speaker 10: It's a wheelbarrow full, you can come Aaron's like my guy.
• 1:29:56
Speaker 1: We're going to do it in Chicago next week.
• 1:29:59
Speaker 1: I don't care when, is it Thursday?
• 1:30:02
  Speaker 1: No, I won't.
• 1:30:04
Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, I'll be in Chicago yeah, I'm not going until.
• 1:30:08
Speaker 3: Friday I'm in well, the event's Friday.
• 1:30:12
Speaker 1: I'll be in Thursday night well, I'd come down and see you on Thursday don't forget, you've got Dan Garrison on Thursday night.
• 1:30:22
Speaker 6: You've got to be clear-headed, God.
• 1:30:26
Speaker 1: I find out about this late.
• 1:30:30
  Speaker 7: Come on now.
• 1:30:30
  Speaker 7: We've got 500 episodes.
• 1:30:32
  Speaker 7: What is the?
• 1:30:33
  Speaker 9: rerun.
• 1:30:34
Speaker 9: Matt says, he's free.
• 1:30:39
Speaker 10: You've got some really exciting skews right now.
• 1:30:42
  Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
• 1:30:43
Speaker 10: You have the bourbon, you have the rye, you have the on-premise everyday thing.
• 1:30:49
Speaker 10: What else is coming out besides amazing?
• 1:30:53
  Speaker 10: Ohlq exclusive.
• 1:30:55
Speaker 3: There will be some distillate samples to go through on some new stuff we're working on.
• 1:31:00
Speaker 3: That is not released.
• 1:31:03
  Speaker 9: You're killing him.
• 1:31:04
Speaker 3: You're killing him I don't know, some rye varieties and possibly a four grain that will be sampled.
• 1:31:18
Speaker 10: Oh, I'm going to kill you.
• 1:31:21
Speaker 6: Right now, and and yeah, Between you and Aaron, you brought me a question how long is it going to take me to get an Ohio driver's license to become an Ohio resident so I can?
• 1:31:33
Speaker 1: get some of this stuff.
• 1:31:34
Speaker 1: You don't have to have an Ohio, I'll buy it for you.
• 1:31:36
Speaker 1: You can just buy stuff you don't have to have an, I'll buy it for you.
• 1:31:38
Speaker 2: You can just buy it.
• 1:31:39
Speaker 6: You don't have to have a license to get in line.
• 1:31:42
Speaker 1: No, this isn't line stuff.
• 1:31:45
  Speaker 10: No.
• 1:31:46
Speaker 4: I should have guessed that the first year I came up to Ohio.
• 1:31:50
Speaker 10: Yeah, I would say, the only things you have to have a license for for Ohio, or Is the lotteries.
• 1:32:01
Speaker 3: The lotteries, the lotteries, the greatest.
• 1:32:02
Speaker 3: Most people in Ohio don't have a driver's license.
• 1:32:04
Speaker 6: They just get the car you lived, aaron.
• 1:32:07
Speaker 6: What did you just say?
• 1:32:12
  Speaker 3: Two years.
• 1:32:13
Speaker 1: Yes, I mean he lived in Columbus for two years.
• 1:32:16
Speaker 1: I'll give him that I think we bleeped that out.
• 1:32:19
  Speaker 9: I said.
• 1:32:20
Speaker 6: Repeat that slowly for those of us that were born in Mississippi.
• 1:32:26
Speaker 1: So just so you know, randy, especially with green, like all the OHLQ releases get released right away.
• 1:32:39
Speaker 1: Nothing gets held back.
• 1:32:41
Speaker 1: It's just like, and most of it gets released on release day and you pretty much if you want an OHLQ release they do so many that pretty much everybody that wants it gets one.
• 1:32:56
Speaker 1: Sometimes you can't get the barrel you want, like Anne's tasting notes will be like she'll have a bunch of and it's like I want that barrel and then you're like that's the hard part.
• 1:33:10
Speaker 1: But as far as getting one of the barrels, they're throughout the state of Ohio and you usually can get them when they're released.
• 1:33:21
Speaker 4: Yeah it's like I flew up a couple of times and not been there for the actual release, but I've traveled around and hit some liquor stores and been able to pick up some of the releases that were left over.
• 1:33:37
Speaker 4: You know, the smaller stores that had them had them available, you know, because they didn't have that many people that came in there, and so I got lucky enough to pick them up that's the move, because it goes all over ohio well that's it, that's it and, and as aaron knows, it's like ann does a wonderful job of getting everybody in line.
• 1:33:59
Speaker 1: And then the distribution of OHLQ as far as their picks.
• 1:34:03
  Speaker 1: It's amazing.
• 1:34:05
Speaker 4: Yes, I have to give 100% shout out to OHLQ and their whole distribution team because, it's amazing, it is equally divided and, like I say, everybody has a chance.
• 1:34:22
Speaker 6: I know I've grabbed a couple of Ohio releases, probably one from Walker that he got from you, and then also I picked one up at your store when I was up there and they're wonderful, they're amazing.
• 1:34:34
Speaker 6: Whoever picked them does a great job.
• 1:34:37
Speaker 1: So there's going to be.
• 1:34:38
Speaker 1: They're great stuff, so okay.
• 1:34:38
Speaker 1: So there's going to be great stuff, so, so OK.
• 1:34:40
Speaker 1: So you're going to be tasting through stuff.
• 1:34:43
Speaker 1: Does that mean it's going to be released also?
• 1:34:47
Speaker 4: What would that be?
• 1:34:50
  Speaker 10: The outcome.
• 1:34:53
Speaker 2: That is it yeah.
• 1:34:55
Speaker 10: So the OHLQ exclusive barrels of Green River are coming out of that one I was going to say Aaron.
• 1:35:02
Speaker 10: So Ohio is the fourth largest American whiskey market in America.
• 1:35:08
  Speaker 4: Congratulations.
• 1:35:10
Speaker 10: Well, thank you, but for Green River, how are we stacking up?
• 1:35:15
Speaker 10: Are we up there?
• 1:35:24
Speaker 3: are we stacking up?
• 1:35:25
  Speaker 3: Are we?
• 1:35:25
Speaker 3: Are we up there?
• 1:35:26
Speaker 3: Um well, she does so good at putting people on spot.
• 1:35:29
Speaker 3: As far as peers go, I know that when um, oh my gosh, is it Rick in Heidelberg?
• 1:35:52
  Speaker 3: I cannot remember.
• 1:35:53
Speaker 3: His name is rick so.
• 1:35:54
Speaker 3: So usually, anyway, whenever ohio calls, I know that I need to make sure that I'm not sitting down and moving everything I can to help them out, and I will call and I'm coming back.
• 1:36:01
Speaker 1: We appreciate that Well.
• 1:36:04
Speaker 3: Ohio helps with your success.
• 1:36:05
Speaker 3: Correct If there is a brand or anyone that wants to become a brand in the entire world, if they are not paying attention to the state of Ohio then they're not going to succeed.
• 1:36:22
Speaker 10: I'll say that I'm going to take that right there, our new commercial.
• 1:36:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say so because there's a bunch of brands I tried to get into Ohio and they didn't come into Ohio and they're having a lot of problems.
• 1:36:38
Speaker 1: I'm not going to, I won't name names, but Exactly, and they didn't come into Ohio and they're having a lot of problems, a lot.
• 1:36:39
Speaker 1: I'm not going to, I won't name names, but Exactly, no, no, ohio, no, and when are we going to become three Ann.
• 1:36:47
Speaker 4: Either that or they're not trying hard enough, right Ann?
• 1:36:51
Speaker 10: Well, I mean, it's kind of like pitching your brand to any sort of chain.
• 1:36:57
Speaker 10: Yeah, if we're going to go to Total Wine, you would say here's my brand, here's what I'm doing to support it, here's my marketing plan to come in.
• 1:37:13
Speaker 1: You know it's very data driven total wine and here in Ohio and get Costco to start selling.
• 1:37:23
Speaker 1: It's just like that.
• 1:37:25
Speaker 1: Do you realize how many people go out of state to go to Costco?
• 1:37:30
Speaker 10: I mean, there's no reason why there can't be a Costco or a total wine.
• 1:37:34
Speaker 10: It's just that liquor sales are OHLQ, and OHLQ is that you have the same shelf price every day everywhere, and so it's a very standardized process, and some of those places have not chosen to participate.
• 1:37:55
Speaker 1: Well, costco, when you go in wisconsin they discount it, it's like it's cheaper.
• 1:37:59
Speaker 1: So, like you said, when you can't, so if they buy 500 million cases, they want to sell it for cheaper and they can't do it here in ohio, because ohio, yes, that makes sense ohio is different.
• 1:38:13
Speaker 10: it's it's really the only state like it where the's a public-private partnership, where we have the public side, the Division of Liquor Control, which is all of the operations, and then we have Jobs.
• 1:38:25
Speaker 10: Ohio Beverage System, which is who I work for and who buys all of the liquor and the profits from the sale of liquor is what funds economic development, which is not just bring more businesses in.
• 1:38:40
Speaker 10: That's part of it, but it's also are we maintaining a bank of.
• 1:38:45
Speaker 10: Here are shovel-ready development sites.
• 1:38:48
Speaker 10: Here are empty buildings that would totally fit your business.
• 1:38:53
Speaker 10: Here's what we're doing to bring talented people into the state to fill the jobs or, you know, have talented people.
• 1:39:01
Speaker 10: So you know, it's a lot to it.
• 1:39:04
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, it's very different.
• 1:39:06
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 1:39:07
  Speaker 9: That's awesome.
• 1:39:08
Speaker 1: Yes, so we've gone long and the 500th was going to be long.
• 1:39:15
Speaker 1: I want to thank you.
• 1:39:16
Speaker 1: Does anybody have final comments?
• 1:39:21
Speaker 1: You can start Super Nash.
• 1:39:24
Speaker 4: One other thing is we need to go to Greg Schneider, because he's been here the whole time and I mean this guy is just super.
• 1:39:36
Speaker 4: There are so many words that I just can't explain.
• 1:39:41
Speaker 4: But, greg, I mean, what do you think about all this?
• 1:39:46
Speaker 4: And I just want to thank you so much for helping us along the way, and is there anything that you'd like to say or anything?
• 1:39:58
Speaker 4: Or actually promote Four Branches.
• 1:40:03
Speaker 1: Are you coming up to Ohio with Four Branches?
• 1:40:07
Speaker 5: Thanks for the opportunity.
• 1:40:08
  Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean.
• 1:40:09
Speaker 5: You guys know they're a small company.
• 1:40:11
Speaker 5: Most of their sales are online sales.
• 1:40:13
Speaker 5: Right now they're in seven market states, whatever, and so they're growing.
• 1:40:19
Speaker 5: It takes money to make money as you grow in this industry.
• 1:40:24
Speaker 5: I've been doing this for 47 plus years.
• 1:40:27
Speaker 5: Thanks for the mark.
• 1:40:30
Speaker 5: Absolutely, it's always great.
• 1:40:32
Speaker 5: Again, we talked about the brotherhood.
• 1:40:39
Speaker 5: When I started in this industry in 1978 with Joseph E Seagrams in Louisville, and back then, even to the time I was the managing director of Wild Turkey, there was eight players in this state, kentucky, and we had a brotherhood, and any day if I had a motor that burned out and I didn't have a replacement, I could call any one of the distilleries in kentucky.
• 1:41:04
Speaker 5: If they had that motor.
• 1:41:06
Speaker 5: I could run over.
• 1:41:08
Speaker 5: They throw it in a truck and pick it up, and we did that every, every day, every week, and it's such a great industry.
• 1:41:14
Speaker 5: I'm so blessed to have worked in it throughout my life.
• 1:41:19
Speaker 5: Listen to Ann and the Ohio Liquor Control Group.
• 1:41:23
Speaker 5: Ohio is an extremely important state.
• 1:41:28
Speaker 5: I've told the guys at Fort Branson I'd love to get you in that state.
• 1:41:34
Speaker 5: It would be a huge boost to your sales and growth, and we will.
• 1:41:41
Speaker 5: We'll get there someday.
• 1:41:42
Speaker 5: But you know everybody's got to walk, you know got to walk before you run, and so that's kind of the situation they're in.
• 1:41:50
Speaker 5: And I work with other companies as well.
• 1:41:52
Speaker 5: You know I have a consulting company, but you know to think about where Scotchy Bourbon Boys started and to where they are today.
• 1:42:05
  Speaker 5: That's phenomenal.
• 1:42:06
Speaker 5: And again that's a tribute to Jeff Rachel Martin, whiskey Tiny Nose Xavier you know, Whiskey, tiny Nose.
• 1:42:20
Speaker 5: You know, xavier, I mean a whole bunch that's been involved throughout CT.
• 1:42:24
Speaker 5: I mean you guys, as we talk about her, you've been like family and that goes back to the camaraderie of this industry and the connection we all have.
• 1:42:35
Speaker 5: The connection we all have and again, can't say enough about what you've done for this industry and to help it grow and prosper and achieve what people didn't think was possible at one time.
• 1:42:48
Speaker 5: So, thank you, I've enjoyed the night, I've listened a lot and you know, as you all know, I'm not sure for comments when I think comments need to be made, but that's okay, yeah, we can't wait to see you all in person at the festival.
• 1:43:08
Speaker 9: It's a little over a month, Well yeah, in September.
• 1:43:12
Speaker 1: No matter what, greg, we got to make sure that we connect okay.
• 1:43:18
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 1:43:20
Speaker 6: I want to tell you, as I travel around, I see Four Branches on the shelf in a lot of places and I'm glad to see that.
• 1:43:28
  Speaker 5: It's a great brand.
• 1:43:29
Speaker 5: I mean nobody's ever done know about it.
• 1:43:32
Speaker 5: I mean, check it out.
• 1:43:33
Speaker 5: You know there's four guys that come from four branches of the military and their mission and their story is phenomenal.
• 1:43:42
Speaker 5: I mean they want to pay tribute to those that have fallen and paid the ultimate sacrifice to our country, our great country, in fighting and supporting for it.
• 1:43:54
Speaker 5: And it goes beyond that.
• 1:43:57
  Speaker 5: I mean a lot.
• 1:43:58
Speaker 5: A big portion of their proceeds goes back.
• 1:44:02
Speaker 5: They pay back to not just veterans organizations but first responders organizations and what have you.
• 1:44:11
Speaker 5: And so I'm just delighted.
• 1:44:14
Speaker 5: You know they're again such a small company.
• 1:44:16
Speaker 5: They're such a small company it's going to take time to get to where they have potential to be, but they're phenomenal guys, phenomenal organization.
• 1:44:26
Speaker 5: I'm just proud to work with them.
• 1:44:27
  Speaker 5: So thank you.
• 1:44:28
  Speaker 1: That's awesome.
• 1:44:29
Speaker 1: You would only work with a phenomenal organization.
• 1:44:34
Speaker 1: I know this time how you went about doing it.
• 1:44:37
Speaker 4: You made sure that this was a worthwhile endeavor, so cheers to that, I believe in destiny and, like I say, I think you're right where you should be and I believe you've got a great future with that company.
• 1:44:51
Speaker 4: And that's a great group of guys and I really enjoyed podcasting and talking with each and every one of them.
• 1:44:58
Speaker 4: Like I said, they got a great endeavor ahead of them and a great statement.
• 1:45:07
Speaker 5: Thank you, appreciate it, guys.
• 1:45:09
Speaker 5: Thank you so much, cheers.
• 1:45:10
Speaker 1: Thank you and Anne, do you have any final statements?
• 1:45:15
Speaker 10: Oh, my final statement is cheers to 500 episodes.
• 1:45:19
Speaker 10: I listened to some of the early ones.
• 1:45:23
Speaker 10: I was there for some of the early ones.
• 1:45:25
Speaker 10: You guys are amazing.
• 1:45:27
Speaker 1: I will have to say that, one of the most amazing things when you invited me down to the watershed that first time and I showed up and you were wearing the Scotchy Bourbon Boys t-shirt, I was like wow, it's like yeah, it's just yeah, and you've been nothing but fantastic for supporting us and helping us with the barrel pick process, which I, you know, every barrel pick, you know you make sure that it all just goes through as smooth as it can be.
• 1:46:08
Speaker 1: Uh, we and your friendship more important.
• 1:46:13
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yes, it's just like, um, the one thing that anybody ever, if you've ever, met Ann.
• 1:46:20
Speaker 1: When she walks in the room, the room lights up I always refer to her as liquid sunshine and there's no doubt.
• 1:46:30
Speaker 1: But her knowledge and expertise has been 100% supporting the state of Ohio, has been 100% supporting the state of Ohio.
• 1:46:42
Speaker 1: She has a talent for, even if sometimes she doesn't get credit for it, she can make somebody have an idea that they might not have ever had.
• 1:46:51
Speaker 1: So we cheers to you.
• 1:46:53
Speaker 1: So thank you, ann.
• 1:46:55
Speaker 4: Cheers, ann, and thank you for supporting us yeah.
