Sara Curtis, UVA’s breakout sophomore, just rewrote swimming history—twice—in 24 hours. She shattered the 50-meter backstroke world record at the Europeans with a blistering 26.56, becoming Italy’s first woman to win gold in that event—and the first Black swimmer ever to set an individual world record in it. Meanwhile, her Virginia teammates Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass smashed another world record in the mixed relay at the Pan Pacifics.
