- 0:00Speaker 1: Good evening, I'm a Haley artists. Flights in and out
- 0:02Speaker 1: of Wabush Airport were disrupted once again due to a
- 0:05Speaker 1: lack of firefighting capacity. Mayor Gerty Canning says as of
- 0:09Speaker 1: this morning, PAL had indicated that flights of nineteen seats
- 0:12Speaker 1: or greater are not flying in or out of lab West.
- 0:16Speaker 1: She says. The disruption comes after a piece of firefighting
- 0:19Speaker 1: equipment used at the airport broke down.
- 0:21Speaker 2: A critical airport firefighting vehicle underwent some mechanical breakdown, which
- 0:27Speaker 2: of course triggered the safety restrictions which applied to any
- 0:31Speaker 2: flights landing at the Wabblish Airport that was over the
- 0:37Speaker 2: nineteen theaters. So of course that affected PAL. But however,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Metavac and all those smaller flights that are nineteen seats
- 0:46Speaker 2: and under can still land here because we do have
- 0:49Speaker 2: the firefighting capability of taking care about.
- 0:54Speaker 1: The Mayor of Saint John's is responding to frustration expressed
- 0:57Speaker 1: over the pedestrian mall. The concept was re introduced during
- 1:00Speaker 1: the pandemic, allowing businesses in the Capital cities downtown to
- 1:03Speaker 1: set up outdoor patios while a portion of Water Street
- 1:06Speaker 1: is closed to vehicle traffic. While it's proved a hit
- 1:09Speaker 1: in past summers when the weather has been warm and sunny,
- 1:12Speaker 1: pedestrian traffic has taken a hit this year due to
- 1:14Speaker 1: a relentless diet of rain, drizzle, and fog. Local restaurant
- 1:18Speaker 1: Tira Todd Paren took to Facebook on the weekend, expressing
- 1:21Speaker 1: frustration with the city's decision making process on the pedestrian
- 1:24Speaker 1: mall and citing the city's own survey showing real concerns
- 1:27Speaker 1: about safety, security in parking. Paren claims most businesses indicate
- 1:32Speaker 1: they haven't really seen any particular benefit from the pedestrian mall.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Mayor Danny Breen told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan
- 1:39Speaker 1: that the weather is definitely a factor this year.
- 1:41Speaker 3: If the weather is not great, people are not going
- 1:43Speaker 3: to be done in the pedestrian Mall as much as
- 1:45Speaker 3: they were, say last year, when the weather was a
- 1:48Speaker 3: lot better. And that's just natural and sometimes some businesses
- 1:52Speaker 3: do better in the pedestrian mall than other businesses. That's
- 1:55Speaker 3: a parent of it as well.
- 1:57Speaker 1: The mayor says the city has heard from residents and
- 2:00Speaker 1: tourists who really like the pedestrian mall.
- 2:02Speaker 3: They think it's a great addition to the city. It
- 2:04Speaker 3: has a community aspect to us. It has a place
- 2:07Speaker 3: where it community can gather and people can go there.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And you know, but every year we do a review.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Every year we hear the feedback coming back. So you know,
- 2:19Speaker 3: the downtown businesses have never been all in favor of
- 2:23Speaker 3: this or all against. It is really a mixed bag.
- 2:27Speaker 1: A super yacht, the largest single masted yacht ever built,
- 2:31Speaker 1: is turning heads on the Saint John's waterfront. The M five,
- 2:34Speaker 1: formerly known as the Marabella five, is part of a
- 2:36Speaker 1: fleet of sailing yachts used for private luxury charters, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: is owned by Rodney Lewis, the founder and president of
- 2:43Speaker 1: Lewis Energy and Oil and natural gas drilling company based
- 2:46Speaker 1: in Texas. One of the yacht's more distinctive features is
- 2:49Speaker 1: its massive mast, which reaches a height of two hundred
- 2:52Speaker 1: and ninety feet above the ocean surface. The yacht has
- 2:55Speaker 1: a master suite and six cabins to accommodate up to
- 2:58Speaker 1: twelve guests, and can be chartered for up to US
- 3:01Speaker 1: four hundred and twenty thousand dollars per week. That's your news.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm Ahelia artist.
