Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Today we will be talking about soybean export commitments.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: We might see an opening again on the southern border with regards to feeder cattle imports, as well as there might be a summit between the United States, China, and Russia.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like to shout out our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And as I look here, the December corn contract is coming down just a little bit this morning at 471 and a quarter.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: The November soybeans about this coming down as well at 1259 and a half.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And Chicago, December wheat is at 659 and three quarters.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I'd like to shout out crude oil real quick as well as we look here.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: The November contract is at 196.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: This is the weather chart for today.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And as it shows, there's some stuff on the East Coast, but we are getting going to get to have a big harvest week here with very little rain anywhere in the middle of the country through Saturday, with just a little bit of appreciable rain, not until maybe 11 to 15 days later.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: It's going to be around Halloween, hopefully, before we see some rain.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And the rest of the country, it's going to be very, very dry for the next 10 days in the mid-south and southeast.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And the northern plains are going to see a bit warmer temperatures than normal.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, you know, they still get some moisture at some point up there because they've been just a little bit dry.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: This is the grain market chart for today that I'd like to pop on just real quick.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: We are going to get more export inspection numbers here this morning.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And before I bring that up, I'd like to talk about what we've had so far.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And as we look at this chart, we've been doing all right comparatively year over year with our soybean exports, but we could be higher.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: We're sitting just a little bit over that 20 million mark kind of 24-ish, I think, on the last one, 23 maybe.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And as this next report comes out today, I think we'll see just a slight increase, but probably stay within that same trend.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we're doing better than we were in 25 and 26, but still we could always be just a little bit higher when it comes to our grain exports.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, we'll see more flash sales to China.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: The Columbus, New Mexico port is going to be opening, hopefully, this week, and it's going to be coming the third port to reopen Mexican cattle feeders on maybe October 26th is the date that they're saying it's going to happen.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: It's going to be 750 head per day, is what the Chihuahua Cattlemen's Union.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: That's hard to get uh spit out there.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Uh but this is confusing for the most part because before all of this closure stuff, they were only doing 600 head a day there.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Now who knows?
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe they will push through 750 ahead a day.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: But the other ports, as we know, were sitting around 30 to 40 percent of where they were at before the border closed.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: So maybe it's just a little overly optimistic to think that we're gonna get 750 head there.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: This chart here portrays what we've seen already.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: This was the breaking news headline that caught my eye this morning because the price of fuel has been driving everything recently, and the Ukraine war certainly doesn't help.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But this headline is a little bit interesting because it leaves out Ukraine from the whole situation.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Putin report reportedly proposes a three-way summit with Trump G on the Ukraine war without President Zelensky.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: The summit is not confirmed, but it takes place.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: If it takes place, it will not include Ukrainian President uh Vladimir Zelensky.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: The report comes out amid mounting tensions between Ukraine and the U.S., its largest military backer.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: We'll see how this plays out.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's some things that haven't been brought to light yet in that situation.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: We'll see how this affects the price of energies.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: They came back down on the open last night, oil did, but then shot up again higher this morning.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: There's what we have on the economic calendar for today.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: The NAHB Housing Market Index comes out here at 9 with export inspections at 10.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: And then after the close today, the crop progress report comes out at 3 p.m.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Central.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching this morning.
