- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So if I asked you the question, who are you really?
- 0:35What would you say? It's an interesting question to
- 0:38ask. And often times at the very
- 0:41beginning of coaching, when I start with a client, it's one of
- 0:44the first questions I asked them, well, who do you believe
- 0:47that you are really? And often they're stumped.
- 0:51They don't know. And we go through an exercise
- 0:54where we dig into this and we say, well, we know we have
- 0:57multiple roles. We all seem to have multiple
- 1:00roles. Very rarely are we just, you
- 1:04know, myopic in one thing. But there are multiple roles,
- 1:10multiple facets, multiple parts of us, and they all blend in to
- 1:16make the tapestry that we are. But how often do we examine this
- 1:20tapestry? What threads was it made with?
- 1:22What fabric was it made with? And does it form a picture that
- 1:26we like or not? It's such a great way to think
- 1:28about it because when you think of yourself as a tapestry,
- 1:31what's the picture of you? Is it ultimate chaos on that
- 1:34tapestry? Is it beautiful in design?
- 1:38But it's, you know, all shades of all grey.
- 1:42Like what is that tapestry of you look like?
- 1:45And if here's the cool part, if you're not happy with your
- 1:48tapestry, you can always go back and fix it.
- 1:51But first you have to know who are you really.
- 1:54So if you think of it like you're trying to sort through a
- 2:00bunch of different emotions, thoughts, feelings, talents,
- 2:05you're doing a brain dump of it. So if you if you do the exercise
- 2:09that we're going to, I'm going to take you through right now
- 2:11and you sit down, you know, in a quiet space.
- 2:13I like doing it in a quiet space just because it allows me to get
- 2:16all of it out. And my quiet space happens to be
- 2:20a very big space. And believe it or not, when I
- 2:22like to do these things, I like to whiteboard them because I
- 2:25have to get it out big so I can see it.
- 2:27I don't like using small paper. In fact, most of the time I
- 2:30don't even write on small paper. I try to do 11 by 17 so that I
- 2:34have big paper to work with or giant whiteboards in my studio.
- 2:38So you do the brain dump of all those questions.
- 2:42You know, who am I really is at the very top that you write
- 2:46down. But then you say like, what are
- 2:47my roles? That's a question you ask
- 2:50yourself. What are my talents?
- 2:52What are my beliefs? What do I think I bring to the
- 2:55table? What are my primary, you know,
- 2:59feelings of why I am here? You write down all these things,
- 3:03just randomly dump it all out, get it out of your head.
- 3:08And then you look at it and you say, OK, let me start to chunk
- 3:11these things to figure out who am I like as a person?
- 3:16Who am I? The first time I did this, I
- 3:18realized that my side for creativity is insane.
- 3:24Like it is so layered out. I have so many things on that
- 3:28side. I started to notice as I was
- 3:30chunking I I just have a massive list for that creative side of
- 3:35myself and that that really is at the core of who I am.
- 3:40That is it, my creativity, my imagination.
- 3:43And this all started when I was very, very little.
- 3:46And fortunately for me, it did not get ruined.
- 3:50It had many opportunities to be ruined.
- 3:52But for some reason the I was, I was not torn apart by it.
- 3:59And when I say how I had many, many reasons because I was
- 4:01judged for IT, people thought, oh, your ideas are crazy.
- 4:04Or I was told when I was little, you know, you shouldn't have
- 4:07because I had imaginary friends, Full disclosure, imaginary
- 4:10friends, more than one, trust me.
- 4:12And I had many comments from my family, not my mother, not my
- 4:19father, but other family members who would say things that, you
- 4:24know, you have to get rid of them.
- 4:25My parents, my father tolerated it because he didn't understand
- 4:28it. But my, and he would, you know,
- 4:31engage with it, with me, to make me happy with it.
- 4:35My mother was totally fine with it.
- 4:36She didn't have a care in the world about it.
- 4:39But I had other people who did say things to me about it.
- 4:42And teachers said things to me about it when I was very little
- 4:45because I had them when I was very little.
- 4:47And I'll tell you, it could have squashed me, but they were part
- 4:52of my creativity. They were part of my
- 4:54imagination. They were part of that ethereal
- 4:57world that is so magical and so enchanted.
- 5:00And that's the part that I come from.
- 5:02So if I had to say, at the very core of who I am, it's a magical
- 5:07world. It's an enchanted world.
- 5:09It's divine. It has so much sparkle to it.
- 5:13It's crazy. And that is at the very center.
- 5:17And from there, everything goes, everything else comes out.
- 5:22Being able to do this podcast comes from that part.
- 5:26But once I put it all up on the wall, I could see it and I could
- 5:30say, wow, that is the core of who I am.
- 5:33And if I stay focused on this as well as I still have to do the
- 5:37other things. But if I make that my focus, I
- 5:40can feel empowered every day. That's why we're shooting a
- 5:44podcast from a chicken coop, my friends.
- 5:47So try this exercise. I promise you it will enlighten
- 5:51you, it will open up things, and it will let you see where you
- 5:55want to grow, just like it did for me because there are other
- 5:57parts of me that I always want to grow.
- 6:00All right, my friends, I hope you have fun white boarding this
- 6:03and I will talk to you tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 6:06Bye.
