- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Sea Cake. This is episode 484.
- 0:19I'll be your host Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes. Nate, the floor is yours, my
- 0:32friend, and that'll do it. Thank you guys for a World
- 0:42Series following along with us. We'll we'll catch you guys in
- 0:48the offseason. What happened, dude?
- 0:53What happened? There's so many things we could
- 0:59pick apart about this game, but the reality of it is, is this.
- 1:04We should be gearing up as baseball fans for Game 6 in LA.
- 1:09Like, that's just the reality of it.
- 1:11And I know people are going to say, well, the Dodgers just had
- 1:13an incredible comeback. They absolutely did.
- 1:16But if it weren't for the most possibly the most random
- 1:21baseball game of all time, this thing is going 6 if not 7.
- 1:29What a wild baseball game to end the season.
- 1:32Unreal. Yeah, yeah, one of probably the
- 1:43worst choke jobs I've seen ever. I mean, I guess we can blame
- 1:53that on recency bias or whatever it is, but no, Aunt Kathy, I did
- 2:01not have Mac and cheese and Dino Nuggets.
- 2:04So who's really to blame on me? Is it on is it on Rizzo or is it
- 2:08on Nate? I think we have our answer.
- 2:10I think we already know, yeah. Man, just I mean, tell me what
- 2:17was going through your mind this game.
- 2:18I'm like we talked about just before you hopped on a roller
- 2:20coaster. I mean, that's that's really the
- 2:23only way you can put it. I mean, this, this had and I
- 2:26talked. I I just said most random game
- 2:28ever. It had everything.
- 2:30What I mean, how as as a Yankees fan, how in the world were you
- 2:35like coping with the ups and downs of this game?
- 2:38Not well, Not well. They had a picture perfect
- 2:45start. It was exactly what they needed
- 2:49to do was to run flirty early, which you didn't predict.
- 2:55And Cole to be Cole, what she was.
- 3:03Yeah. It's just they said it on the
- 3:06broadcast. And they're not wrong.
- 3:08Like this team had holes. This team had flaws and they
- 3:12were very much just exposed in this series and in this game.
- 3:22I this is yeah, man. Like, I think in my mind, I
- 3:30really had this chalked up as a win.
- 3:32Like, even before the game. I really did.
- 3:34I think a lot of Yankees fans did, you know, like Cole on full
- 3:39rest. I think they showed the stats
- 3:44before the game when he faces the team a second time in the
- 3:47series. It's he's better than the first
- 3:49time then. So I think I had it like chalked
- 3:53up in my head of like, cool, like, you know, not recording
- 3:58tomorrow night, going to record again Friday night.
- 4:02Like how does that going to work?
- 4:03You know it. Yeah, it it is what it is, man.
- 4:09I the Dodgers, like as much as I feel like we lost this game, I
- 4:18think the Dodgers like we can't just we can't just dismiss that.
- 4:21Like we can't dismiss how good they are and how dominant they
- 4:25are. And you know, like Dave Roberts
- 4:31did I think an impeccable job managing and yeah, like, I'm
- 4:40sorry, I'm struggling to find words that I, I, I had a few
- 4:45innings to wrap my mind around it.
- 4:46I had the basically the full 9th inning because once it didn't
- 4:49happen in the in the eighth, I think I mentally kind of started
- 4:54to process that it was all done. Yeah, I mean, Yanks bring in 789
- 5:01up in the ninth. Yeah, not ideal.
- 5:06Yeah. Do we want to talk?
- 5:08Can I mean to? I trying to tread lightly here,
- 5:13but do you want to just dive right in to where it all went
- 5:18wrong? To where the game just
- 5:21completely flipped on its head. Yeah, I mean, I guess like I, I
- 5:27think, like I said, like it started great.
- 5:30You know, the Yankees did everything that they were
- 5:32supposed to do. I've I've yet to see the game,
- 5:39the win probability chart. I need to.
- 5:40I need to find. I'm sure can somebody?
- 5:44Point me to the win probability chart for tonight's game.
- 5:46I need to see this. Yeah. 5 nothing through, you
- 5:50know, through what was it? It was in the 5th when
- 5:52everything kind of collapsed, but it just everything felt like
- 5:59it was, it felt like it was going back to LA like
- 6:02everything. I think everybody in the world
- 6:04felt that way. I think there's probably some
- 6:07Dodgers in that dugout that felt that way.
- 6:11But the 5th inning, I mean, started with the with the key K
- 6:17single. I'm going to.
- 6:19I think I'm going to relive this inning for a while.
- 6:24Oh man. Started the key K single kind of
- 6:29like this soft liner fly ball kind of a humpback liner that
- 6:39who was that was that Will Smith they hit that to judge yes Will
- 6:51Smith hit that to judge you I mean you can see it clear as day
- 6:57His eyes are kind of just peeking at the runner which Kiki
- 7:01was working his way back to first.
- 7:02It wasn't like a wasn't like a crazy secondary took off towards
- 7:07second like it it was He was very much going back to first.
- 7:12There was no play at first. There was no play on the runner
- 7:15whatsoever. Clanks off of judges, judges
- 7:20heel of his glove as he looks away, ground ball to Volpe.
- 7:27Volpe makes the right play, you know, as a shortstop if you're
- 7:31taking into that 55 hole first and second kind of an easy play
- 7:37to 3rd. Jazz was there on time.
- 7:39It's just you know, he spiked it to him would have been a crazy,
- 7:44crazy dig from jazz. Doesn't happen.
- 7:48And then you watch Garrett Cole do Garrett Cole things and
- 7:54punches out Lux, punches out Otani, 2 outs, bases loaded and
- 8:01you're like, this is still salvageable.
- 8:03Like this is still if this happens.
- 8:06Like it feels like it's smooth sailing.
- 8:10It feels like we can overcome these horrendous easy baseball
- 8:21mistakes that that have happened throughout the year that they've
- 8:24slugged their way out of that they've that they've managed to
- 8:28score enough runs to kind of hide this stuff.
- 8:32And it wasn't meant to be. Mookie hits a very routine
- 8:41squibber to first base. And I think it had some English
- 8:47on it. I think it's some weird spin
- 8:48that kind of caught Rizzo. But like, the truth is, as good
- 8:52as Rizzo is, like there's big bad moments defensively in this
- 8:57postseason that we witnessed him have now.
- 9:00I mean, should Gerrit Cole have been there?
- 9:021000 percent, 1000% should have been there.
- 9:09But why are we sitting back so much on that?
- 9:11Like it is Mookie like I'd rather come up and get that and
- 9:16and take take the bag myself. I'm not going to sit back.
- 9:21So yeah, cold doesn't cover run scores 51 Freddie jam shot
- 9:29single up the middle 5/3. Yeah.
- 9:35I mean, that's like, come and get that dude.
- 9:38That's what we're looking at right there.
- 9:40Come and get that. It was about a split second
- 9:44later where you see Cole point to Freddie or, excuse me, point
- 9:48to Rizzo to get to the bag. I'm like, my guy, you, you, we
- 9:52got to be at least in the vicinity.
- 9:54Like if, if, if you want to sit back and let Rizzo take that, so
- 9:57be it. But it like it's never the
- 9:59pitcher's call. First of all, like it's it's
- 10:02never the pitcher's call. He just has to be there.
- 10:04And he's got the first baseman to decide to wave him off and
- 10:09didn't even give Rizzo the opportunity to.
- 10:11Exactly. Bit of a brain fart.
- 10:13I think it was like, you know, when you punch out bases loaded,
- 10:18no outs, you punch Outback to back guys, you make the pitch to
- 10:22get a ridiculous hitter in Mookie who has good numbers off
- 10:25of you in his career. It's I think there's just this
- 10:28sigh of relief that happened too soon.
- 10:32And anyway, yeah, was. Was that it?
- 10:36Was it at that point or was it elsewhere in the game or maybe
- 10:38even that inning or no? It would have either been at
- 10:41that point or somewhere else in the game.
- 10:42But I remember Smoltz saying you you, it was something to be
- 10:47effective. You can't think about having one
- 10:50out left, you just have. To make your next pitch, that
- 10:53was that moment. And like I, I did, he made the
- 10:56pitch, Yeah. And like, we get on, we, we get
- 10:58on Smoltz a lot for some of the things like the more obvious
- 11:01things he says. But in that situation, I totally
- 11:03understand what he's saying there.
- 11:05That's. Exactly like that moment was
- 11:07exactly what you're saying you can't do.
- 11:09You like and, and not just not just for coal, but like
- 11:12defensively to like you can't, you can't rest on the fact that
- 11:16you just escaped with two outs and you're like, OK, I think
- 11:20we're in the clear here to, to, to get this final out.
- 11:23Like you have to lock it in even more so at that point to ensure
- 11:27that everything stays where it's at.
- 11:29And we we saw the slightest that you call it the, the biggest,
- 11:35call it the smallest brain fart defensively and it quite
- 11:41literally cost in the World Series if you get out of the 5th
- 11:43inning, we're going back to LA. Oh, 100% like I genuinely feel
- 11:48that. I mean, it doesn't matter.
- 11:50It is what it is. But yeah, like I said, Freddie
- 11:55single after that 5 three, I think a curveball hung up in the
- 12:00top of the zone to Tay Oscar for A2 run double to tie it at 55.
- 12:10Insane to me that Cole came back out real like.
- 12:17That was. That was his.
- 12:18Brain fart like it. It feels like it felt it gave me
- 12:22like Nathan Ievaldi back in what year was that, 2018?
- 12:2618 Yeah, like. It gave me that vibe of like
- 12:30they lost that game. Muncie hit a walk off, but like
- 12:33to like take one for the team to go back out there to like just
- 12:38kind of nut up for a lack of better, better, better words
- 12:41here. Like that's what that was.
- 12:44And offense just doesn't really. I mean they scratch one across
- 12:48but like it just doesn't wasn't. Enough.
- 12:51And that's what I don't want to get lost here.
- 12:53By no means am I like a cold defender, cold sympathizer here,
- 12:57but like that's what I don't want to get lost in this whole
- 13:01conversation about the the final game here is is Cole.
- 13:04And I'm not saying that you are taking this angle with it, but
- 13:08I, I, I don't want it to feel like Cole came back out just to
- 13:13chew up more innings outside of the defensive miscues.
- 13:17The defensive miscues cost him, not cost him, but ultimately
- 13:21cost cost the Yankees the game. But it it was not a result of
- 13:26Cole. Sure, you could point to the the
- 13:28PFP miscue there, but you talk about, you talk about Judge
- 13:32dropping the ball, you talk about Volpe spiking at the third
- 13:35Like there's other things at play there that weren't they
- 13:39were it. It was a different outcome in
- 13:42those moments. Then Cole just giving up a three
- 13:45run bomb and then giving up back-to-back solo shots or
- 13:47something like it was completely different.
- 13:49Which we've seen like we've seen like a mental lapse.
- 13:52We've seen like a, you know, where that hard O mentality just
- 13:57kind of cracks and and he's not able to, you know, keep it
- 13:59rolling. We I've seen those starts
- 14:01before. It just it wasn't that I was
- 14:03really impressed with what he did.
- 14:05I think it was really gutsy and super impressive because like,
- 14:09it was obvious that the Yankees bullpen was, you know,
- 14:15completely thrashed at that point.
- 14:17And it was, you know, a little bit about chewing innings.
- 14:20But it was the fact that, like, I think he was at 88 pitches, 89
- 14:25pitches at the end of that 5th. So it was like, let's keep it
- 14:28rolling, man. Like you got plenty in the tank
- 14:30left. It's the end of the season.
- 14:32We need to empty it. And again, like you were saying,
- 14:36he was untouchable, but that's that.
- 14:43This is like the the Dodgers hoisting the trophy right now,
- 14:46like as we speak is because of this is what good teams do.
- 14:54This is what good teams do. They take advantage of mistakes
- 14:57on the other side. They don't shut it down after
- 15:01being down that much. They relied on multiple guys to
- 15:08get it done. You know, like you didn't see
- 15:11some dominant, crazy offensive performance, but it was like a
- 15:15gutsy thing. I think Smoltz or Joe Davis said
- 15:20that there was a Dave Roberts quote that was like, the Dodgers
- 15:25have been talented before, but they've never been tough.
- 15:29And this was a tough team like that.
- 15:33They were talented and tough and they got it done.
- 15:36And like, there's only so much I can say, you know, like it was,
- 15:43it was just, they deserve it. Like as much as the implosion
- 15:49handed it a game early or two games early, the Dodgers
- 15:54deserved it. They played a cleaner series.
- 15:57They they did all the things the right way.
- 16:01And like I said, I think like game four, that Volpee, that
- 16:04Volpee Grand Slam kind of covers up some of the mistakes.
- 16:08And that's what the Yankees have been able to do throughout the
- 16:10year is that those mistakes, those blunders are covered by
- 16:14managing to get WS just somehow doing it typically done by the
- 16:18long ball. And you made your bet, you know
- 16:24what I mean? Like, it's embarrassing, dude.
- 16:30Like it really is like as as cool as last night's win was, as
- 16:35great as this first half of the game tonight was like it really
- 16:39like genuinely it was. It happened in such such a an
- 16:43embarrassing way, like a bad high school baseball type way.
- 16:48Right. For for so many things to go
- 16:52wrong in the ways that they did for that, for all of that to
- 16:56happen in one game and the deciding game ultimately, that's
- 17:02tough. And honestly, like for the
- 17:03Dodgers, you talk about the Dodgers playing a cleaner
- 17:05series. The Dodgers played big.
- 17:09We're talking big picture here. The Dodgers played in my
- 17:13opinion, the better series really, or I won't say they
- 17:18played the better series up until the the, when the Yankees
- 17:22went up five nothing tonight, but because obviously they lost
- 17:27in Game 4. So I won't say they played
- 17:28better in that game, but it it really didn't feel like the
- 17:32pressure had been flipped. It did not feel like the tables
- 17:36had been flipped until the Yankees went up five.
- 17:39Nothing it. Really felt like it, yeah.
- 17:41And I felt like things were shifting.
- 17:43Yeah. And I, I, I'm sitting there
- 17:45thinking like the Dodgers, I think for the first time
- 17:49legitimately in the entire series, are shifting their
- 17:52weight to their heels a little bit.
- 17:54Yeah, if you if you send the series back to LA after a
- 17:58slacking, after a dominant, you know, a dominant start from Cole
- 18:04Bob's going for the offense and you win 567 nothing or a 567 to
- 18:10one type game like then yeah, that Game 6 has momentum on the
- 18:15Yankee side. It feels like things are
- 18:17starting to move that way. Like I said, there's I mean, you
- 18:23can't call it anything else. Just a joke job.
- 18:25Just a straight joke job by heroes.
- 18:31You know what I mean by heroes? Like it wasn't, it wasn't a
- 18:35Glaber Torres where we've seen all year.
- 18:37It wasn't like some type of goofy mistake by Verdugo.
- 18:42It wasn't a Stanton being slow on the bases.
- 18:45Like it wasn't that. It was like your hero who
- 18:49started to make everything right in this game and Aaron Judge
- 18:54made a crazy play in the gap, catching that ball up against
- 18:57the wall. Your hero from last night and
- 19:00Anthony Volpe, the New York kid, like all of that Garrett Cole,
- 19:05your horse, your saw you like it was your heroes that made these
- 19:11mistakes. It it's a World Series champion
- 19:15in a clubhouse leader in Anthony Rizzo.
- 19:17Like I could go down the list. It wasn't the the no names.
- 19:22It wasn't the guys that like, oh, you know, the Yankees are
- 19:24just picking up the slack for these guys.
- 19:26No, these are the guys and all of them let you down.
- 19:30And we're not going to remember Aaron Judge's home run.
- 19:33We're not going to remember that crazy play in center field.
- 19:36We're not going to remember that.
- 19:45I, I this might be too soon and I apologize if it is, but
- 19:49specifically that Judge home run, we we very, very well could
- 19:55remember this for all the wrong like if you're a Yankees fan,
- 19:57you we could you could be remembering this for the wrong
- 20:00reasons. Same.
- 20:01Way. The way we look at the way we
- 20:04look at Trout, the only hit he had in the post season in his
- 20:08career, a home run in Kansas City.
- 20:11Obviously different stage here in the World Series for Judge,
- 20:15but his his only real moment, his arrival to the postseason or
- 20:21the World Series, I guess if you want to call it the postseason,
- 20:25his real true arrival, like capturing in a bottle what he
- 20:29did this season and finally bring it to the postseason was
- 20:32that home run in my opinion. And it's, it ultimately was for
- 20:38nothing. But if, depending upon how the,
- 20:41the, the way the rest of his career shakes out, we, that's
- 20:44going back to my original point, this could be something we, we
- 20:47look back on as baseball fans. When you're talking legacy,
- 20:50you're talking like, you know, post season accolades and, and,
- 20:54and resume and all that. But I, I don't know, it's too
- 20:58soon, obviously to talk about that because that's, that's,
- 21:01that's more, no, I'm, I'm saying big picture, like that's more,
- 21:04that's more of a down the road conversation.
- 21:06But probably, yeah, I, I think you said it best, man.
- 21:10The Dodgers just played a, a cleaner series.
- 21:13They were more fundamental. Like there were certainly
- 21:15moments for both teams throughout this series where
- 21:18you're kind of sitting there scratching your head a little
- 21:19bit. But there are fewer of those
- 21:22moments for the Dodgers. And I think ultimately that's
- 21:25that's why they're the ones holding the trophy tonight.
- 21:28Yeah, like let's, I mean, let's give them their flowers.
- 21:31You know what I mean? It like if if you're if you're a
- 21:34parent of a a young kid and and you want them to learn how to
- 21:38watch baseball, like this was the team.
- 21:40This was the team to watch. You watched hard 90s, you
- 21:46watched bullpen guys toughen it out and just really emptying the
- 21:52tank. You watched excellent play and
- 21:57and you know, defensively, like I I can't a couple muffed plays
- 22:03by Tommy Edmond at short, but like that's the only thing
- 22:07that's really coming to mind for me and which happens like
- 22:10whatever, you know, but like Mookie just busting his butt
- 22:14everywhere he goes. Freddie Freeman for for obvious
- 22:18reasons, like we can remove the home runs, but like up to me.
- 22:22I'm going to remember that like fighting off single up the
- 22:25middle to scratch two more across in that inning.
- 22:28I'm going to remember him last night busting it down the line
- 22:32in a loss, busting it down the line to beat out a double play
- 22:36attempt so that running from third scores like the you could
- 22:41just you could work your way down the list of Kiki Hernandez,
- 22:44who you know is going to play second, going to play center.
- 22:47Like you just you have selflessness all around.
- 22:51Max Muncieu didn't have a series, you know, really wanted
- 22:54or postseason you really wanted. I know Tani who struggled in the
- 22:58World Series, like gutted it out and still showed up and like is
- 23:01obviously probably going to have some type of surgery this
- 23:05offseason. Like if you want to learn how to
- 23:08watch baseball, if you're a high school kid, if you're a young
- 23:11kid, like this was the right way.
- 23:15You can go down the list. You can go across multiple
- 23:18games, you can go through the entire postseason like this team
- 23:24was well coached, it was well executed and they gave you
- 23:31everything. They won in every possible way.
- 23:35It wasn't just one dynamic, it was all of it, all aspects.
- 23:43I I feel like and and tell me if you feel otherwise.
- 23:47I feel like absent a a impressive or an impressive
- 23:54performance from show, hey, in this World Series, the Dodgers
- 23:57did just about everything that they probably felt coming into
- 24:02this season they were capable of doing, if that makes sense.
- 24:06They like there was question and I I think it's finally be the
- 24:10last time we talked about it, but there was there was
- 24:12questions about their their staff coming into this post
- 24:15season. They eliminated those question
- 24:18marks. Their stars showed up.
- 24:20Mookie Betts. See, I mean, he didn't have the
- 24:22greatest post season, but he I think he shook off enough of
- 24:26those demons a little bit to to feel like he could probably lay
- 24:30his head down at night after this World Series saying that he
- 24:32he he made impacts Freddie Freeman obviously doing what he
- 24:35did. Really.
- 24:37I mean, like I said, fundamental baseball pretty much threw out
- 24:40minus a couple errors here and there, but really outside of a
- 24:45mix sort of missing show, Hey, for the most part, he was pretty
- 24:49much Mia. They, they I think you said it,
- 24:53they checked the boxes. They checked the boxes.
- 24:56And like you sit there, talk about payroll all you want with
- 25:00this team, but like, how much more evidence do you need?
- 25:04And I and I, I put out the tweet.
- 25:06What was it yesterday? I think it was before Game 4,
- 25:10which they ultimately ended up losing.
- 25:12But it I I said when, if and when the Dodgers win the World
- 25:17Series. Don't be upset because they
- 25:20spent money. Be upset at your owner for not
- 25:23a. 100. Percent and I've I still believe
- 25:26that have it like in the moment they hadn't won it yet.
- 25:29So maybe you could argue maybe that I felt a little different
- 25:32than in the moment before they actually won it.
- 25:34But now that I've seen them hoist the trophy, I feel the
- 25:37same exact way. I'm not upset.
- 25:40I'm not upset for the Dodgers. Like, did I want to see this
- 25:42thing go six or seven? Sure.
- 25:44But they more than likely were going to win it anyway.
- 25:47So to sit here and ridicule the Dodgers and like, if if you're a
- 25:51Dodger hater, I understand whatever, I'm not going to
- 25:54convince you anyway. But if you're just an objective,
- 26:00reasonable baseball fan that doesn't necessarily have any ill
- 26:03will towards the Dodgers, don't be upset for the way they went
- 26:07about this. They did they The reason you
- 26:11might be, and most likely are upset at the Dodgers is because
- 26:14they're doing it in a way in which your team is not.
- 26:19You wish you had this kind of star power on your team, and if
- 26:23you say otherwise, who? You're not fooling anybody.
- 26:26Who are we really kidding? Well.
- 26:27It's not just that it's it's selfless star power and anybody
- 26:34out there, you know, and I mean, I guess the next one we're going
- 26:38to see is Soto. But like, I hope this that this
- 26:44is a representation of like the best player on the planet was
- 26:51selfless, fine financially in order for this to happen, in
- 26:56order for these moves to be able to be made, in order for a
- 27:00roster to be filled, like to take that all of that money
- 27:05deferred. And we can sit here and and, you
- 27:08know, discuss the reasons as to why he did it that way.
- 27:11But the truth is, I'd like to think he's a winner and he wants
- 27:17to be able to get this done. He wanted to be able to for the
- 27:20Dodgers to have an opportunity to go get a Yamamoto and to give
- 27:26this team an opportunity to make some additions at the deadline.
- 27:30And if you're a superstar and you're sitting there saying I'm,
- 27:36you know, I want the paycheck I deserve.
- 27:39How do you look at the best player on the planet and and see
- 27:42that he's not doing it that way while he's hoisting the trophy
- 27:47when he in fact didn't really do much in the World Series to do
- 27:54the hoisting, You know what I'm saying?
- 27:55Like, it's it's kind of crazy. And you talk about, you know
- 28:00what Tommy Emin in a in a Kopec likes coming to mind right away
- 28:04at that deadline. Those are two moves that played
- 28:09immense parts, like the some of the biggest parts for the
- 28:13Dodgers in this run. So I think we've had
- 28:20conversations about teams getting hot and just Catching
- 28:25Fire and riding that through the postseason and just managing to
- 28:28play baseball at the right time and, and doing everything well.
- 28:31And, you know, somehow sneaking it out and being that underdog
- 28:36story. And then you have other winners
- 28:38that just one, from day one, they made all, they pressed all
- 28:46the right buttons in the front office.
- 28:48And you have an entire lineup who's extremely selfless, who is
- 28:55just worried about winners, just worried about winning.
- 29:01And yeah, it's hard to look at that team and, and, and not be
- 29:05jealous of, you know, the top three guys being MVPS.
- 29:12But it's out there. It can be done.
- 29:17And I hope that, like, part of me wonders how much this sits
- 29:21with Soto. He sat on the top step and
- 29:25didn't move. He watched his celebration.
- 29:27He kept his helmet on. How much of that is sinking in
- 29:30of like, yeah, I could get 6 or 700 this year.
- 29:38How do I work that to getting what I deserve, but still being
- 29:42able to do that and celebrate with my team wherever it may be?
- 29:50So I think it does an amazing job of representing what players
- 29:54can do to be flexible, to be selfless, and it shows an
- 29:58amazing job of what teams should do and for those owners to start
- 30:04spending money and putting a product out on the field.
- 30:08And understanding that whatever this viewership was for the
- 30:11World Series, even though it was somewhat of a let down compared
- 30:15to the hype before that, this was worth it.
- 30:20You got your money back. So bravo, the Dodgers, genuinely
- 30:31bravo. They deserved it and they got
- 30:33it. I don't know, man, I still feel
- 30:38like as base, I'm not going to, I'm not speaking about the, the
- 30:43Yankees fans specifically because obviously we know what,
- 30:47what they wanted to happen, what you wanted to happen.
- 30:51But as as baseball fans, I, he, I, I just have to go back to the
- 30:55beginning of this World Series where we're again, we're talking
- 30:59about the magnitude of what this could be and what it was shaping
- 31:02up to be. I just feel like we were left
- 31:07for wanting just a little bit more.
- 31:10And I was, I was talking to Meredith about it tonight.
- 31:12And because she was out and at the time that she left, it was 5
- 31:17nothing. And she came back and it was
- 31:20seven to six and, and the 8th. And she was like, oh, my
- 31:23goodness, this is close. And I said, yeah, but I just
- 31:28don't really, I forget exactly what I said, but it was
- 31:30something effective. Like it's just, it's really not
- 31:33going to scratch the itch unless it goes 6.
- 31:37Even if the even if they go to New York and they or even if
- 31:41they go to LA and drop game six, at least at least get it back to
- 31:45where it started. Even kind of if it was, if it
- 31:48was the fumble and then some like a walk off, if that, like
- 31:53if that would have happened and we're going back to LA.
- 31:56That would have. That would have just added to
- 31:58the randomness. And ended in 6th even if it
- 32:01ended in 6th like that. That's what I'm saying.
- 32:03That would have scratched that itch for sure.
- 32:05It would have just felt a little bit more of a complete World
- 32:07Series. But now you know how I feel as a
- 32:09Yankee fan. This, this, this, these last few
- 32:13years, man, It's just like, it's a team that like we have an
- 32:16itch. We know that there's some
- 32:19scratches around it every once in a while, but we know that
- 32:22it's still itching and it's, it's really hard to watch, man.
- 32:29You're really going to make me say it again, what I said to you
- 32:31before we hopped on I, I don't know if I know what it feels
- 32:38like because in my lifetime, I've yet to witness a loss in a
- 32:42World Series. And that's a beautiful, that's a
- 32:45beautiful thing. Sorry.
- 32:47Just give me, just give me the one jab I'd you got it.
- 32:50Give me, give me some credit. I feel like I handled myself
- 32:53pretty well this World Series. 34 minutes after a little bit of
- 32:59salt, the. Series started last week.
- 33:03Give me some credit. I feel like I, I mean, just let
- 33:05me get that one little shot in. You realize that I've we started
- 33:10this podcast in 2018. We started this, I want to say
- 33:16in July or August of 2018 and. Immediately had to one.
- 33:23One but a few months later. Yeah, immediately had to watch
- 33:28you celebrate and I was like, man, this podcast seem to be
- 33:31awesome when when I get one. Honestly this this would make
- 33:35for a great bookend if you if you just want to call it quits.
- 33:38I might start it with a Sox series and end it with a Yanks
- 33:42loss. We can.
- 33:43We could do that that. Checks.
- 33:45Checks all your boxes. Yeah, yeah, Stink fan.
- 33:51I mean, give me give me more of your, your fan perspective here.
- 34:00Where like where does it? Where does it?
- 34:01No. No, no, as neutral as I'm trying
- 34:04to be at the moment. Yeah.
- 34:05And I mean, I, I, I commend you for it.
- 34:08But give me like, from the perspective of a Yankees fan,
- 34:12where, like, where do you go from here as a fan?
- 34:16Like, do you hold out hope that maybe you can build off of this?
- 34:19Do you feel like this was the end of the rope?
- 34:21Like, do you feel like you, you, you kind of hit your, hit your
- 34:24limit here and that you, you, you maybe assume that Soto's
- 34:29walking out the door and this was your one shot or like, I, I
- 34:32mean, I know it's, I know it's raw right now, but like, I, I, I
- 34:37know you and I know your ability to, to think pretty rationally
- 34:41throughout the series. I mean, for goodness sakes, you,
- 34:43you were talking before the series even started.
- 34:45You're like, I don't know how this team got here.
- 34:48I, I don't see how anything positive could come out of this.
- 34:51So you were kind of already sort of there a little bit.
- 34:54Yeah, but it's it sucks, man. It sucks that like, I think
- 35:01there's a few fan bases out there that can really say I told
- 35:05you so and be right about it. Like the holes.
- 35:14OK, Robert, the holes? I mean, is he lying though?
- 35:20For those of you listening, Robert in the chat said the
- 35:22Yankees were worse than the Mets in the playoffs.
- 35:24Not even the best team in New York.
- 35:26OK, I'm not. I'm not going to sit here and
- 35:31just take Mets trash talk shit out of here.
- 35:36Oh goodness, hold on. Can I, can we pause it right
- 35:41there? Put a pin in that thought.
- 35:44Tell me right now, do you think the Mets would have put up a
- 35:50better fight in this World Series?
- 35:52This isn't like it's not a joke. It's.
- 35:54Like an NLNL matchup? What do you mean?
- 35:58Are you saying it like Mets, Mets.
- 36:00Yankees. Yeah.
- 36:03Well, like would the would the series have been different it
- 36:06that's I guess that's what I was ultimately asking.
- 36:07Not not NLNL. What is Mets, Yankees.
- 36:10Yeah, like how how would that series have gone?
- 36:13I think it would have gone a lot better for the Yankees.
- 36:17Fair enough. It's.
- 36:21All in all, you're not taking the Mets.
- 36:22The Mets. Slander right now, Never.
- 36:24I'll never take. I'll never take Slander from the
- 36:27Mets and any Yankee fan that does should should turn him in.
- 36:35I don't know where they go from here, man.
- 36:36I we hold on. I don't know if I mentioned
- 36:38this. If it wasn't and I'm now you got
- 36:40to be curious. If it wasn't NLNL matchup, who
- 36:43do you think takes the series? Like if if the NLCS like.
- 36:49Did was the World Series? Like if if we're talking
- 36:52Dodgers, Mets in the World Series, do you think the Mets
- 36:55give the Dodgers a better run for their money?
- 36:57Than the Yankees did in this series, correct?
- 36:59I mean, it's hard to say. I don't know like it.
- 37:06Give me a yes or no. Did the Mets take this six or
- 37:09seven? No, no, I don't think.
- 37:14I don't. I don't think it.
- 37:16It's such a weird question to answer.
- 37:18But like I we, every, everyone knew what the Mets were.
- 37:24Everyone knew what? What are we?
- 37:28The chat is unhinged right now. They're we're talking, I mean,
- 37:33we're talking about the Mets eliminating the Dodgers and.
- 37:37But they didn't. They lost and they didn't get to
- 37:39the World Series. So like, I don't know what we're
- 37:41even discussing here. They lost.
- 37:44They lost to the Dodgers. Ultimately, that's my point.
- 37:47I'm ultimately asking if if they ran it back, if Manfred was
- 37:50like, you know what, the Yankees.
- 37:52The Yankees cake. Walked through the AL Central.
- 37:55Let's just let the Mets and Dodgers run it back here.
- 37:57Would it have gone to? The the the Mets Good good vibes
- 38:01lasted only so long. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 38:05I think this I ran out like the Steam ran out probably.
- 38:08We watched it at the right time. Yeah.
- 38:10Fun story, but like, whatever. Where do the Yankees go from
- 38:16here? I don't know, man.
- 38:18Home. I don't know.
- 38:20I don't know where they go from here.
- 38:22Well, they're already home. They.
- 38:23Didn't even make it back to LA. No, I'm talking like home.
- 38:27Well, I mean, I guess technically they don't have to
- 38:29go home like I I guess what's the common thing Cancun?
- 38:32Like that's NBA. Where where do where do the big
- 38:34leaguers go? Do they they go to just like
- 38:35Florida or something? I don't.
- 38:37Know they got to go somewhere. I mean, they, they, I mean they,
- 38:41they, they got better money than the NBA.
- 38:43So maybe it's a little something, a little nicer than
- 38:45Cancun. I don't know.
- 38:46But they're going home. I know that.
- 38:51Any who's yeah, I don't know if like I said, man, we we talked
- 38:57about it like it's it's weird to be on the fence about re signing
- 39:01Soto. It's weird to say that like if
- 39:03they do it, they have no room left financially to plug the
- 39:08other holes. And there's holes, there's
- 39:13rotation holes, there's bullpen holes, there's first base holes,
- 39:18there's your second and you're starting second baseman, you're
- 39:21starting left fielder or going to free agency.
- 39:26I don't think as as commendable and as impressive as it is at
- 39:30times with Judge and center, he's not a center fielder.
- 39:34He's not going to age well in center field.
- 39:36You got to get him back to right field.
- 39:39So it's, it's, it's kind of nuts, man.
- 39:43Like it's, it's really hard to say because like the core isn't
- 39:50deep enough, it's not young enough.
- 39:59I don't know. I'm pretty.
- 40:01I'm pretty lost. Let's flip the script here,
- 40:04Dodgers. The Dodgers back here next
- 40:06October? Yeah.
- 40:08Are the Dodgers here in the last?
- 40:10Week. Of October.
- 40:13Yeah, this is the beginning of the window.
- 40:15You're going to you're going to continue to see this because
- 40:19they'll still have that core that really knows what's up.
- 40:25That is definitely in their prime.
- 40:29They're going to continue to press the right buttons and
- 40:31filling in the gaps with the right role players.
- 40:39And they didn't even have they didn't even have they're
- 40:43starting pitching. They're going to run it back
- 40:45again like they're. Show.
- 40:48He's back on the Bump Next year show.
- 40:50He's back on the bump glass now is back.
- 40:52Like I like, do you do you just take a maybe a little bit of a
- 40:56hometown discount and bring back Walker Buehler based on what you
- 40:59saw in the last, you know, six weeks?
- 41:00Like there's a lot there that is just like it's hard to see them
- 41:07drop off in any way. Tommy Edmund still under
- 41:11control, I believe like it. Tay Oscar is the only one that's
- 41:15probably walking and probably getting a multi year deal.
- 41:20Be really interested to see where.
- 41:23I think, I think the, the one of the takeaways from the series
- 41:28and, and just the, the showcase that it was the way that it was
- 41:32covered on, on just like a well, not even national global scale
- 41:36really is that it continues to show players, you know,
- 41:47perspective, free agents, things like that, that LA is still a
- 41:52destination. Like, I mean, who from a
- 41:56baseball point of view, I mean, whether or not you like the city
- 41:59is like, I got another conversation to be had.
- 42:01But as a baseball player, how do you not look at what's going on
- 42:04in LA? And that's been the case for I
- 42:06don't know how long. And that's why they continue to,
- 42:11to land these names. That's why they continue to to
- 42:14win out in these bids. I think Joe Davis was telling
- 42:17that story of Brian Cashman having lunch with Yamamoto in
- 42:23LA, And they were sitting on like a rooftop patio having
- 42:27lunch. And Cashman, like, looks around
- 42:30and he admits he's like, this is what I'm competing with.
- 42:33It's, you know, whatever month it is, it's December.
- 42:37We're sitting here on a rooftop hat, You know what I mean?
- 42:40Like there's there's so much not just star power, there's
- 42:45immortalization in in baseball fame, not just Hall of Fame, but
- 42:53like lore, baseball lore, like it's, it's so in depth.
- 42:59It's so there and you're coming or now where like the monkeys
- 43:04off the back a little bit. We can finally put the bed the
- 43:072020 World Series and like call this team legitimate and call
- 43:12this franchise like and and again, this is just the
- 43:17beginning of the window. This is not a one and done.
- 43:22Yeah, on that 2020 World Series, for those who aren't on board
- 43:26with it, you have, you have really one of two options to
- 43:33accept that that was a legitimate World Series and that
- 43:36everybody was on an equal playing field at at that point.
- 43:39The Dodgers just happened to do what 29 other teams couldn't do.
- 43:43Or if you choose not to accept that, then you have to accept
- 43:462024. Because I think ultimately what
- 43:50these what these, what these people who just can't accept the
- 43:532020 World Series are looking for is the Dodgers to somehow go
- 43:58bankrupt and roll out a roster full of no names and win a World
- 44:03Series that way. Well, hate to break it to you
- 44:06that that's not happening. That's not how the daughters
- 44:09operate. And I think that is the route at
- 44:11going back to what we talked about, that is the route of your
- 44:15issue with the Dodgers for for those of you that aren't on
- 44:19board with with how the Dodgers run their show, it's because you
- 44:23wish your team ran their show that way.
- 44:26The Dodgers just happened to do it a little bit better than
- 44:28everybody else in the league, it seems. 1000% thousand percent.
- 44:40You can go back to like those moments too, like in the season
- 44:43where, you know, Mookie gets hurt in the conversation of
- 44:47like, you know, do we bring him right back to short?
- 44:49Do we push him back to right field?
- 44:52Like this team had they had question Marks and they just
- 44:59it's it's about buying in and it's about, you know, pressing
- 45:03the right buttons and and gritting it out.
- 45:07And that's what they did, man, that's what they did.
- 45:10And when you have, I think when you have the best player in the
- 45:15planet, like, you know, some of it feels somewhat expected, but
- 45:20you just have super selfless guys.
- 45:23And yeah, overall I'm just, I'm, I'm super impressed.
- 45:29I really am super super impressed on all aspects of of
- 45:35the LA Dodgers. Can you help me make sense of my
- 45:38take from from back in March? When we had it since March.
- 45:45When we had our hot takes and predictions episode and I said,
- 45:48I said that this the Dodgers were not going to cakewalk to
- 45:52the World Series. I've really been trying to
- 45:55wrestle with that take because there for there for a while, I
- 45:58was fully on. I was, I was, I stood fully
- 46:01behind that because they it was a little bit of a rocky stretch
- 46:04there. And again, like with the
- 46:06injuries, with you. Know they played bad baseball
- 46:10for about a month. Having an absolute dog fight
- 46:13against the Padres and then the Mets giving them a little bit of
- 46:16a run for their money there at times.
- 46:18I they didn't run the table. I'm sure technically, yes, they
- 46:23did. They're they're the last team
- 46:25standing. But I'm still kind of wrestling
- 46:27with that take. Like, I don't, does it still
- 46:31hold up even though they ended up winning it?
- 46:33Like, can we still look at this at this season for the Dodgers
- 46:36and say, like, you all had to fight a little bit more than I
- 46:41think probably Dodgers fans were hoping for?
- 46:44Is that fair? Is that fair to say?
- 46:46I do think they did. I do think they did.
- 46:48I think their their match up against the Padres I think was
- 46:53the best match up of the all of the postseason.
- 46:56That was the World Series. Yeah, it definitely felt that
- 47:00way. And you talk about another team
- 47:02that, you know, felt like they pressed all the right buttons
- 47:05and made all the right moves to fill that roster out.
- 47:08But yeah, dude, I, I, I really do think they earned it.
- 47:14Like as much of we're probably going to remember this World
- 47:18Series being a let down, I still think they really did earn it.
- 47:23I think they did really, really well through and through.
- 47:28And I don't know, I mean, there's not much left to say.
- 47:34I got Dodgers fans, you know, for a little while for, you
- 47:39know, four or five months. You get to say whatever you want
- 47:43and Dodgers, you know, players get to say whatever they want.
- 47:47That's how it goes. That's my rule.
- 47:49That was my rule when I don't remember what year it was when I
- 47:54think somebody, I think the Astros knocked out the the
- 47:57Yankees in like I think it was 2017 and someone was talking
- 48:01noise and CC Sabathia was just like they won.
- 48:06They get to say whatever they want.
- 48:08They want you get to say whatever you want.
- 48:11That's that's just how it goes in my book.
- 48:13So the rest of it is noise. It's officially been shut out.
- 48:18And if you're have any, you know, if you have any
- 48:23orientation with the Dodgers, you get to do and say whatever
- 48:26you want. Speaking of Dodgers fans.
- 48:33Shout out to my boy Murray. Friend of the pod Murray.
- 48:36Long time, long time listener. Said he he is not able to catch
- 48:40the stream but he wanted he wanted to let you know from a
- 48:43baseball fan that he feels for you.
- 48:46Yeah, I know he does. Murray's the best.
- 48:50Happy for him. That guy.
- 48:52That guy's the best. Super happy for him.
- 48:55You're the only Dodger fan I like Murray.
- 48:59I'm just glad we can put the whole, I mean, kind of putting a
- 49:03bow on this, this 2020 conversation.
- 49:05I'm just glad we can kind of leave or we can finally put that
- 49:08to rest because it's like now, now it's it's a thing of like,
- 49:15OK, does it count? Now the angle people I think are
- 49:18going to take is like, OK, does it count towards their actual
- 49:21World Series total? It's not like the most recent
- 49:23title They have the the the next, the next argument that
- 49:27you're going to make are or, or is like, does this count in the
- 49:32grand scheme of things? The fact that they got this
- 49:34series in the books, they were able to check that box.
- 49:38We can not, we cannot focus so much on 2020 anymore and.
- 49:43Really legitimizes it a lot. Yeah, and even just outside of
- 49:47the Dodgers, just as base, like as a, as a baseball community,
- 49:51we can stop talking about that as much because really that I, I
- 49:57hated that season, if I'm, if I'm being honest, that season.
- 50:00Like we're not talking about the legitimacy of the title.
- 50:02We're not talking about that. I'm just saying the, the year,
- 50:04the year as a whole, it sucks. So like the fact that this this
- 50:09is 1 less reason we have to reference that year so
- 50:11frequently now is just a beautiful thing.
- 50:14I like it, it's dead to me. My only question.
- 50:16I'm not trying to be a hater because I actually do like him.
- 50:19I've supported him in the past. Lay it out there.
- 50:25It was Clayton Kershaw in baseball jail.
- 50:27Like, was he? Because, like, DJ Lemahieu was
- 50:33in baseball jail? Let's just ride this injury out
- 50:41and. Well, I mean, they made that
- 50:42decision early. I, I mean, you, you have to know
- 50:46that like, they don't necessarily know that they're
- 50:48going to make it to game five of the World Series.
- 50:50But he was ruled out at the start of the start of the post
- 50:53season. I know.
- 50:54I was just, it was what made me think of is because he was
- 50:57having one heck of a celebration, like, like almost
- 51:02more celebrating than the other guys on the field.
- 51:04Now it's just like, yeah, yeah, you know, celebrate, do your
- 51:09thing. But like, would it?
- 51:11Would it You know, how much did you bring to the table this
- 51:14year? That's actually I it's been a
- 51:16minute since I checked out what his numbers or his final numbers
- 51:19were on the year. What did he 'cause obviously he
- 51:22he. What did he make like 6 starts
- 51:24he. Came back like months into the
- 51:26season and I'm we're not, I'm not here to tear him down.
- 51:30I'm not either since again, like I supported him.
- 51:33Clayton Kershaw 7 starts on the year.
- 51:35Went two and two with the 4-5. Had 24 strikeouts on the season.
- 51:44That. That's got to suck, man.
- 51:46Like if you're Kershaw now. Like you finally get a like a a
- 51:51legit you know no one can question it trophy.
- 51:54And you didn't, you impacted, you impacted more games in the
- 51:59in the shortened season. That's why Think about that.
- 52:05That is tough. That's tough, man.
- 52:08That is really tough. And I'm seeing, I'm seeing a
- 52:10report here. By the way, Aaron Boone is
- 52:12expected back as Yankees manager in 2025.
- 52:15Duh. That's just for Andy Martino.
- 52:20You couldn't just let me get through the night without that.
- 52:24I couldn't have some hope waking up in the morning.
- 52:26This idiot being fired. Finally I just had this.
- 52:34The year is 2045. Aaron Boone is still penciling
- 52:38in Aaron Judge hold on the free hole, and Brian Cashman is still
- 52:43wearing his cardigans in the sweet.
- 52:48Christian in the chat, he says Kershaw was injured.
- 52:51What are you guys talking about? We know that's what we said.
- 52:56It's just funny. It's it's you clearly caught the
- 52:59conversation. I don't know what you're.
- 53:04That's what I'm asking is that like was he in baseball jail?
- 53:07How like how severe was the injury?
- 53:09This is this is. Stop being naive and acting like
- 53:13this doesn't happen all around baseball.
- 53:16Happens all the time. Especially with his track
- 53:18record. In the exactly, exactly.
- 53:21So that's just all I'm asking is that it's, you know, how much of
- 53:25that conversation has changed because like we're I know
- 53:30multiple Dodger fans that are like, I don't want to see that
- 53:33guy throw another postseason game for us.
- 53:35I've heard multiple Dodger fans say that to my face.
- 53:38So don't act like we're suddenly coming in support of him and
- 53:43don't act like that conversation is is saved now, because I don't
- 53:46think it is. He's still got that monkey on
- 53:48his back. He's got two rings, same monkey.
- 53:54Speaking of monkey on the back, sort of kind of a monkey
- 54:00situation, the whole Shohei Otani thing, like it wasn't it
- 54:04wasn't really a monkey on his back as a result of anything he
- 54:08had done necessarily, but the whole like not being able to do
- 54:11anything with the Angels and then immediately jump ship to to
- 54:15the dodgers and gets a gets a ring right away.
- 54:18I mean, that's an interesting. That's an.
- 54:21Interesting. I don't I mean, and and I don't
- 54:24think we're going to talk too much about him, you know, not
- 54:27having a good World Series just because like I think it's going
- 54:30to be put to bed pretty soon. I think this is again the
- 54:34beginning of the window. He's going to come back on the
- 54:38mound and probably when I saw Young next year, it's just like
- 54:41it's. And it goes.
- 54:42This guy's a ridiculous alien. It goes back to what we talked
- 54:46about yesterday. The reason the there wasn't as
- 54:49much focus on Shohei's lackluster performance in this
- 54:52World Series is because they were still winning games.
- 54:55His teammates were around him, picking him up, picking up his
- 54:58slack. And let's not forget he had a
- 55:015050 season to help get them here to this hundred.
- 55:05Percent and we'll look back at number.
- 55:06That's what I'm saying, is that like, it's just, it's baseball's
- 55:08funny. Like the Aaron Judge probably
- 55:10had a better World Series stat wise than Shohei Otani.
- 55:14Yeah, we're not going to. We're not going to talk about
- 55:16that. No one's going to talk about
- 55:17that. So that's just how baseball is.
- 55:23It's about dubs. I think, I think our technology
- 55:32is hearing me because I'm all of a sudden just seeing Kershaw all
- 55:35over the feed. Yeah.
- 55:39Did they, did we miss something? Did they name him MVP?
- 55:43I mean, he's all over the place. Yeah.
- 55:47Man's out there without a jersey on, without a shirt on, just
- 55:50living his best life. I can't even, I can't even blame
- 55:53him. Yeah.
- 55:55Can't even blame him. And now I'm seeing shots of
- 55:59downtown LA. They're riding.
- 56:02My goodness. I mean, I would.
- 56:05Be careful in the streets of LA. I would, I would say there's
- 56:08traffic, but that's that's an assumption.
- 56:15I'm seeing an A Rod quote here. This is one of the greatest
- 56:17meltdowns that I've seen in 40 years.
- 56:21Yeah. I think it's hard to call it
- 56:23like a meltdown. I mean, I think it was just like
- 56:26it was definitely a choke. But like I think of a meltdown
- 56:30as like as like a three O lead, like a reverse role here.
- 56:34Like, you know, the Yankees were three up like in O 4.
- 56:38Like it's not like that. I think O 4 is still going to
- 56:40haunt Yankee fans more than than this World Series.
- 56:45Of. Course, maybe not Aaron Judge,
- 56:50but yeah, I really did have that narrative in the back of my
- 56:54head, by the way, because I told you I was like, in my head, I
- 56:58was like this chalked up W after the first few innings.
- 57:01I was like, let's move on to Game 6.
- 57:03Like, what if this happened? What if the Yankees did the
- 57:06reverse sweep and finally put to bed 20 years later?
- 57:12That joke job? That would have been wild.
- 57:13That would have been what a cool.
- 57:15That would have been a cool thing.
- 57:16That would have been a cool documentary.
- 57:18Would have sounds like a great concept.
- 57:21Maybe, maybe at the 30 year anniversary.
- 57:23Sounds like a great idea, Nate. Yeah, that would have.
- 57:26That would have been cool. I had the script out in my head,
- 57:29couldn't write it. Could have been cool, should
- 57:32have been cool, but. Had Denzel narrating.
- 57:36I had it all going. Fat Joe Fat Joe definitely did
- 57:40the intro song in that document. I heard, I heard.
- 57:44I mean obviously not in the ballpark, but I was seeing on
- 57:47the feed that apparently they showed the second they showed
- 57:50Fat Joe because I guess he was in attendance tonight.
- 57:54Well, no, but apparently the second I showed him on the
- 57:56Jumbotron is when everything went to pot.
- 57:59Oh. Really like in the fifth yeah,
- 58:01I, I, I haven't confirmed that, but I was just seeing a lot of
- 58:04that so that. Was the jinx Good to know.
- 58:10Unreal. But yeah, I mean, I think I was,
- 58:15I was also hoping that Frank Sinatra was not going to be
- 58:17played for the one time in my entire life.
- 58:20I really thought it wasn't going to be played.
- 58:23I'm so glad you brought that up because I I wanted to make sure
- 58:26we covered that. Can we please?
- 58:29I just don't get it after losses.
- 58:32Losses is even just like regular losses.
- 58:36Heck, even losing Game 3 is one thing, but to play it after
- 58:45getting eliminated from the World Series while the Dodgers
- 58:50are dog piling in the middle of your field?
- 58:54Stop with the Sinatra. Yeah, bad luck, Bad luck.
- 59:01And like I can respect loop. Too, by the way.
- 59:03Do they really that? Just keeps going.
- 59:07It doesn't stop. You'll hear if you hang around
- 59:10in there, you'll hear it 5 or 6 times, 'cause I remember that's
- 59:15in in 20 in 2018. I remember that last play, by
- 59:21the way, who hit that ground ball?
- 59:27I remember Steve Pierce, like catching it at 1st 28 diving.
- 59:31Yeah, 2018. So I said. 02019.
- 59:33Like when Steve Pierce like, caught, like he was like going
- 59:36up the line and he like fell and like kept his foot on the back.
- 59:39Yeah, they went through overview that, yeah.
- 59:41Yeah, I was sitting there. I was like, it's it's out, like,
- 59:44and then cue the music and I'm sitting there super depressed
- 59:48and I stay in the stadium for forever.
- 59:50It's half empty already and there's it's still looping.
- 59:53You're hearing it all the way out.
- 59:56That's crazy. Read the news.
- 59:57It's nuts. Like, there's got to be like a
- 59:59lost song, you know? I mean, play, I'll play Randy
- 1:00:05Newman's, I love Lai. Mean mix it up a little bit,
- 1:00:08play anything. Maybe you should show some
- 1:00:10respect to the team that just handled their handled their
- 1:00:12business on your diamond. How about that?
- 1:00:16Yeah, shout out to the Dodgers, man.
- 1:00:18So it's crazy. Before I, when I came downstairs
- 1:00:21to record this podcast, I, I looked at Meredith and I was
- 1:00:24like, Can you believe it? We made it to another offseason.
- 1:00:27I know. It's kind of kind of hits you,
- 1:00:29man. Like, yeah, the world.
- 1:00:30Series this this one hits me more abruptly than ever.
- 1:00:34Yeah, I'm sad. I like on a on a non Yankee fan
- 1:00:40note, I'm sad that tonight was our last game.
- 1:00:43You know, like baseball's done. Well, I told you before, my
- 1:00:47fantasy football teams are trash.
- 1:00:49So like poor? Guys got to do nothing to look
- 1:00:52forward to right now in the sports world.
- 1:00:55I really got nothing. Guess I'll just be a better
- 1:01:01husband or something, I don't know.
- 1:01:02For your show, you can sit back and and watch the Dodgers and
- 1:01:08Mets bid for Juan Soto in the coming months.
- 1:01:10Yeah, I think Paige is like, like internally never going to
- 1:01:16show it, but somewhat happy that we have our nights back.
- 1:01:22It's understandable. Yeah, 3 consecutive nights, me
- 1:01:26yelling at the TV, eating whatever we can find in the
- 1:01:32fridge because I'm not preparing dinner.
- 1:01:38You got any items for you want to close the book here?
- 1:01:43Any any closing thoughts? Any takeaways from the series
- 1:01:47from a depressed Yankees fan? Nothing really about the series.
- 1:01:53If if you are hanging out with us, maybe this is your first
- 1:01:56episode. Maybe these postseason games are
- 1:01:59your first few episodes. We're we're going to run it
- 1:02:01through the entire offseason. Not quite sure on the game plan
- 1:02:05of of, you know, what we're going to do, but we do try to
- 1:02:10not just keep you up to date with, you know, whatever current
- 1:02:13events are happening with free agent moves or, you know, trades
- 1:02:16or anything like that, firings, whatever it may be.
- 1:02:18But we're still, you know, going to do some some breakdowns on
- 1:02:22when these awards come out. We're going to do maybe I think
- 1:02:25we talked about doing like a look back on our hot takes
- 1:02:28episode and see if any of those maybe panned out or how brutally
- 1:02:32wrong some of them were. So if you're looking for
- 1:02:35baseball content and, you know, just want to hang out with us
- 1:02:37during the offseason, please do. So.
- 1:02:40We're going to keep running it outside of, I think, you know,
- 1:02:44maybe a week off for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
- 1:02:47We're going to be here the whole offseason, so.
- 1:02:50And I know we, I know we picked up some new folks and I know, I
- 1:02:53know that like I know who you are.
- 1:02:56I've, I've been, I've been keeping an eye on who, who we've
- 1:02:59picked up during this World Series And and if this, if it
- 1:03:02was this series or, or really this postseason that you found
- 1:03:06us, appreciate you, but you don't think it's, it's gone
- 1:03:11unnoticed. The fact that you've been able
- 1:03:13to you've, you've taken time out of your days, your, your
- 1:03:17evenings to hang out with us, to listen to us break these games
- 1:03:21down. All in all, I mean, it was a, it
- 1:03:23was a great postseason. Like, sure, there were some
- 1:03:26moments here there where maybe if it would have went a
- 1:03:28different way, we it would have been a a different outlook.
- 1:03:31But Oh no, I mean, post season baseball is the best.
- 1:03:35That's the reality of it. It's so true.
- 1:03:36The baseball is so back, like like baseball is so back.
- 1:03:40Baseball is so back like and, and, and for anybody that's
- 1:03:44like, you know, that took some time off.
- 1:03:47I got some Co workers that are like once they met me, they were
- 1:03:50like, oh, you have a podcast like and started listening and
- 1:03:52they're like, dude, baseball's like a lot bigger than I
- 1:03:56remember. I'm like, I know it's back.
- 1:03:58The NFL kind of sucks. The NBA, we know that sucks.
- 1:04:04NHL. I'm not talking any noise on
- 1:04:06hockey players. I can't, I never will.
- 1:04:08So I'll leave that there. Baseball's back, baby.
- 1:04:13Baseball's. Back and we're just trying to
- 1:04:14play a very, very small role in in in that process because I
- 1:04:20mean there's nothing better. So All in all, all I have to say
- 1:04:24appreciate you, you, you knew folks that we picked up.
- 1:04:28We hope you you'll stick around. We hope, we hope we were able to
- 1:04:32provide some entertainment for you through this, this really
- 1:04:34this this season as a whole, but specifically the postseason as
- 1:04:37well. Like Nate said, we're going to
- 1:04:40we're going to keep it coming this offseason.
- 1:04:42We, I'd kind of tinkered with the idea of maybe keeping it to
- 1:04:46twice a week like we did during the during the regular season,
- 1:04:49but I don't want to, I don't want to.
- 1:04:51We shall see. I don't want to make any any any
- 1:04:55promises that we won't be able to keep.
- 1:04:56So I'm just going to leave that there.
- 1:04:59But tab of the cap to you, my friend, for a great year, great
- 1:05:04post season and particularly this World Series for for
- 1:05:10keeping keeping a a steady head on your shoulders because I'd I
- 1:05:15like to I like to RIP you with with the whole Yankees thing,
- 1:05:18obviously, but you know it's tough.
- 1:05:22I had. Some gut punches, some gut
- 1:05:24punches. That's tough to go through.
- 1:05:26And the fact that you were willing to hop on for five games
- 1:05:30to talk about the rather lackluster World Series for your
- 1:05:34team, I mean, that's, that's, that's commendable.
- 1:05:37So I I tip my cap to you my friend.
- 1:05:39Thanks, I appreciate it. Should we get out of here?
- 1:05:43One final sign off for the 2024 MLB season, cruising into the
- 1:05:50offseason. I think so.
- 1:05:53I don't even know when we're going to when we're going to
- 1:05:55show up in your all's feed next. That's, that's TBD.
- 1:05:58But just understand, we, we hope there's a little, little grace
- 1:06:02there. See me next, I think I'm just
- 1:06:04going to be super fat and just I'm going to depress eat my, my
- 1:06:09feelings for the next few weeks. I don't know, actually, I told
- 1:06:14myself once the, once the World Series is over, it's like it's
- 1:06:17back to gym time Now. I don't have to like rush back
- 1:06:20home to like turn the game on after work.
- 1:06:22So Yep, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:27I mean, all what I was saying though, is I don't know when
- 1:06:31you're going to hear from us next, but we'll, we'll, we'll be
- 1:06:35back soon. But just understand that may
- 1:06:38need a couple days to kind of reset and poop a little bit.
- 1:06:40We, we had no intentions of doing like honestly, it was a
- 1:06:43game time decision. Literally, I think like the day
- 1:06:47of. Day of game one.
- 1:06:48Yeah, the day of game one, we're like, we should do this.
- 1:06:52And yeah, we we did it. We we ran it each game.
- 1:06:54We were just going to do the off days, episodes on the off days.
- 1:06:57But you know, we. Called all the hope we did this.
- 1:07:00I am. I really AM.
- 1:07:02I told Meredith she's like, how, how do you like, how do you feel
- 1:07:04like that sort of rhythm went? I was like, honestly, it was not
- 1:07:08nearly as taxing as I thought it'd be.
- 1:07:09And it was, it was kind of enjoyable, you know, speak.
- 1:07:12For yourself on the taxing part. But yeah, well, yeah, well, the
- 1:07:14podcast is, I'm not talking about the series.
- 1:07:16I'm saying just the the rhythm of of being able to to to bring
- 1:07:20the podcast to the people. I'm so sad.
- 1:07:29Hey, we, we just, we just ran through a whole nice positive
- 1:07:33ending. Don't.
- 1:07:34Don't be. Sad.
- 1:07:35Yeah, let's get out of here before I start crying.
- 1:07:36Don't. Don't.
- 1:07:40Don't be sad that it's over. Be sad that Juan Soto's leaving,
- 1:07:45I think is how the phrase goes. Sure.
- 1:07:49Thank you for that. I appreciate that.
- 1:07:51You're welcome. With that being said, my friends
- 1:07:57don't go chasing curveballs. We love you and as always,
- 1:08:00looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:08:02Until next time, stay filthy.
