- 1:07Speaker 1: Freezing cold Yeah, she's nippy.
- 1:10Speaker 5: She's a little bit nipply out there, but fortunately that
- 1:12Speaker 5: means old Pugsan's on high alert.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 5: How you going, brother? No Keezy today, and you're over
- 1:18Speaker 5: the moon, eh? Whenever Keezy's not here, old Pugsan.
- 1:20Speaker 1: He is a completely different human being.
- 1:22Speaker 5: His mood goes through the.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Into the clouds. Guys, come on.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I'm always professional, but let's just say I can finally
- 1:30Speaker 4: be myself.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And that feels right.
- 1:33Speaker 5: You two are constantly going at each other.
- 1:35Speaker 3: 100%.
- 1:36Speaker 5: I don't know what it is, but... For some reason,
- 1:38Speaker 5: Keezy feels the need to tell you how to do
- 1:40Speaker 5: your job, and that must get so tiring for you, bro.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Oh, sometimes it helps because I forget, you know?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 5: How are you, Jase, man?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, good, thank you. I'll be honest with you, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I was all over the place this morning. I just
- 1:55Speaker 1: couldn't get my brain functioning.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Would you say sixes and sevens?
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, not even, my brain just wasn't working and I
- 2:00Speaker 1: was sitting on the couch and I thought, come on then,
- 2:03Speaker 1: young fella, get your ass up and go for a
- 2:05Speaker 1: vigorous walk around the city, which I then did. Beautiful morning,
- 2:09Speaker 1: went down to the wharf there, walked back, got myself
- 2:12Speaker 1: a peanut butter milkshake, sat in the square for 20
- 2:16Speaker 1: minutes in the sun.
- 2:16Speaker 5: What? What? Jesus.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's a sad life, isn't it? I sat there sucking
- 2:23Speaker 1: on my peanut butter milkshake, got home and wanted to
- 2:25Speaker 1: have a nana nap. It didn't change at all. My
- 2:27Speaker 1: brain still wasn't working.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Did you have a nap?
- 2:30Speaker 1: No, I didn't. I won't tell you.
- 2:33Speaker 4: What I did.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Okay, please don't.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I tell you what. Yeah. Massive show ahead, though. Massive.
- 2:44Speaker 3: What's happening on The Big Show with Old Moby?
- 2:48Speaker 5: Great news, fellas. The Warriors are out of the NRL.
- 2:52Speaker 5: They're not in the run for the grand final. So
- 2:54Speaker 5: while there's a couple of semis on this weekend, the
- 2:56Speaker 5: Warriors aren't involved in it. So we won't be talking
- 2:58Speaker 5: about it. Just wanted to flag that. Okay. Just flagging that.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Pugson's got his come dime with me coming up. I
- 3:07Speaker 5: think not for quite a few weeks yet. But he's
- 3:11Speaker 5: got a few questions, obviously. He's trying to get the
- 3:12Speaker 5: inside track.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So we'll find out what that's all about.
- 3:15Speaker 5: And also, fellas, petrol.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Oh.
- 3:18Speaker 5: The price of petrol has gone up in some places
- 3:21Speaker 5: to over $ 5, if you can believe that. So we
- 3:24Speaker 5: want to do a price check around the country. Texas3483,
- 3:27Speaker 5: what's your name, where are you from, and how much
- 3:29Speaker 5: does petrol cost where you are? We'll go cheapest and
- 3:32Speaker 5: most expensive. I'm interested to know how low it can go.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's weird, isn't it?
- 3:36Speaker 5: You can be 100 metres away between petrol stations and
- 3:39Speaker 5: the price can be as different as $ 3.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yes. I've seen that. It's outrageous. It's an absolute disgrace
- 3:46Speaker 1: what's going on at the moment. But hey! Don't get
- 3:49Speaker 1: down about it, New Zealand. Just sit back, relax, listen
- 3:52Speaker 1: to some tunes and the fellas. And we'll start that
- 3:55Speaker 1: off with a bit of Linkin Park.
- 3:57Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yes, indeed. Radiohead there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
- 4:05Speaker 1: this Friday afternoon. The time is 4.14. Just a reminder, too,
- 4:10Speaker 1: we're going to be giving away one of our prizes
- 4:12Speaker 1: for Trade Tested.
- 4:13Speaker 6: We are.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So have your phones on, you mad bastards.
- 4:16Speaker 3: That's right.
- 4:16Speaker 4: You can win yourself $ 2, 500 with a Trade Tested product,
- 4:20Speaker 4: but it's not the last time we're going to do it.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I think we've got two more winners, fellas, but keep
- 4:24Speaker 3: your phone on.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, good on you, man.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Hey, petrol prices, fellas, they're doing the rounds again in
- 4:29Speaker 5: the news, and I'm not surprised.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 5: This might be the most expensive, I think, that I've
- 4:33Speaker 5: ever seen them.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yes, I think so.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Great Barrier Island, the Barrier Times over there, they've got
- 4:38Speaker 5: a pamphlet that they handwritten. They call it a newspaper,
- 4:40Speaker 5: but it's literally a pamphlet. Yes. Right.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Literally. Well, there's not a lot going on over there.
- 4:44Speaker 5: There's very little going on, and especially when everyone has
- 4:47Speaker 5: to stay home because petrol prices have hit. $ 5. 11 per litre.
- 4:52Speaker 5: It's outrageous. That's big bucks. Over on Waiheke Island, my
- 4:57Speaker 5: former stomping ground, your unleaded 91 was sitting at around $ 4.
- 5:03Speaker 3: 04.
- 5:03Speaker 5: So we wanted to know on 3483, how much are
- 5:05Speaker 5: you backbones out there paying for a litre, and where
- 5:08Speaker 5: are you, and what's your name? We've had a few
- 5:10Speaker 5: texts come through here. G'day, you backbones.
- 5:13Speaker 4: $ 3.
- 5:13Speaker 1: 48 for 91 here in Christchurch. Right, okay, yes.
- 5:14Speaker 4: $ 2.
- 5:14Speaker 5: 90 for diesel.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Okay.
- 5:16Speaker 5: $ 2. 90 for diesel. Now, I don't know what your earliest
- 5:23Speaker 5: memory is, Jase, but when I was a kid, it
- 5:28Speaker 5: was 87 cents for a litre of petrol, and I
- 5:31Speaker 5: think your diesel was around about.
- 5:33Speaker 1: 45 or 44.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it was always cheaper, isn't it? Something like that,
- 5:36Speaker 5: because it's a filthy bastard, the old diesel.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Inflation had probably gone up by the time that you
- 5:41Speaker 4: sort of remember, though, because you were 10 years younger.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, maybe.
- 5:45Speaker 3: So maybe like a couple of bucks or something.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But, I mean, it's... It's an outrage.
- 5:52Speaker 5: It's a fair amount of money, Jase. Can I say
- 5:54Speaker 5: that to you?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 5:55Speaker 5: It's a fair chunk out of a man's payback and
- 5:58Speaker 5: woman's when she's paying $ 5 a litre or $ 3. 50 or $ 3.
- 6:04Speaker 1: 70. I remember the times back in the day when
- 6:10Speaker 1: I was on the bones of my arse. You know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: it is a really serious issue for people because, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'd be like, oh, God, about $ 12, how much? You
- 6:19Speaker 1: know what I mean? And even times where it was like,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I don't think I can actually afford to go there
- 6:24Speaker 1: because I've got no petrol and I can't afford to
- 6:26Speaker 1: buy petrol.
- 6:27Speaker 5: This is a bloody disgrace. It's an abject disgrace. I
- 6:31Speaker 5: completely agree with you. And Bogg, oh, Bogg, you remember Bogg.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Bogg. Mad bastard.
- 6:36Speaker 5: He's just sputtered over the room of tuckers on his
- 6:38Speaker 5: way to Marston and can confirm that diesel is $ 3. 03
- 6:41Speaker 5: in Featherston.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Outrageous.
- 6:44Speaker 4: What confuses me is that I live, so I live
- 6:47Speaker 4: in Mount Eden most of the time.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Oh, la-dee-da.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Okay, well, he was just talking about Waiheke, so I
- 6:52Speaker 3: don't know.
- 6:52Speaker 1: What you're on about. Oh, okay, a bit defensive much?
- 6:55Speaker 4: And then I'll go out west, or like in the
- 6:57Speaker 4: middle of nowhere out west, like on the.
- 6:59Speaker 1: The Wops.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 4: And it will be sometimes more expensive further out in
- 7:05Speaker 4: the Wops than.
- 7:07Speaker 3: The central, I don't know, I thought central would be
- 7:08Speaker 3: more expensive.
- 7:09Speaker 5: It's because they've got to get it out further.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it costs them the petrol to get it out
- 7:14Speaker 1: to the watts.
- 7:14Speaker 5: That's the problem, is they're spending all this money on
- 7:16Speaker 5: petrol to deliver the petrol.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 5: And that costs a goddamn, that costs a bomb.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yes.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Now, that's obviously why it costs so much to get
- 7:23Speaker 5: all over to your places like your Great Barrier, Jase.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know why they bother with the Great Barrier.
- 7:29Speaker 5: You know, over there, if I was on Great Barrier,
- 7:31Speaker 5: I'd be horse and carton.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yes, so would I.
- 7:34Speaker 5: You know, it's an interesting joint out there. You know,
- 7:36Speaker 5: I've been over there many, many, many times. And, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 5: you'll be down at the local pub there and ram
- 7:44Speaker 5: to the gills.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 7:46Speaker 5: And every one of the individuals there is also rammed
- 7:48Speaker 5: to the gills.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Somehow at the end of the night, the car park
- 7:51Speaker 5: is empty. Yeah, yeah. They must have one of those
- 7:54Speaker 5: dollar driver services over there.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, surely. You know my interesting fact about the Great
- 8:00Speaker 1: Barrier Island? Go on. It has the highest rate per
- 8:04Speaker 1: capita of convicted murderers.
- 8:07Speaker 5: How good's that?
- 8:08Speaker 1: How good's that? Obviously, people have gone... You know, I'm
- 8:13Speaker 1: just going to go and live my life out on
- 8:15Speaker 1: the barrier there.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Well, better be careful because these petrol prices might be
- 8:21Speaker 5: driving those bastards to act again. What do you reckon, Pugs?
- 8:28Speaker 3: Keep the prices coming on 3483, $ 50 re-bag of ouches.
- 8:35Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 8:38Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Rage against the machine there on the Radio Hodaki Big
- 8:44Speaker 1: Show this Friday afternoon. The time is 4.26 and we're
- 8:48Speaker 1: talking about the outrageous... price of petrol at the moment.
- 8:51Speaker 1: It's going through the roof. And I'm sad to say, fellas,
- 8:55Speaker 1: even with the prices that we're talking about right now,
- 8:58Speaker 1: it's going to get worse.
- 8:59Speaker 5: I just want you to know, Pugs, it's going to
- 9:01Speaker 5: get worse.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It's going to get so much worse.
- 9:04Speaker 5: So whatever you're thinking.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Don't depress anyone.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But it's going to get worse.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I'm sweet as. My car's been in the shop for
- 9:09Speaker 3: six months.
- 9:09Speaker 5: That's right. Well, I think your mechanic, and we should
- 9:11Speaker 5: probably talk about that at some stage, but your mechanic
- 9:14Speaker 5: has absolutely done you.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 9:15Speaker 5: He has done you and he continues to do you.
- 9:18Speaker 5: And you just love it. I just lay there and
- 9:22Speaker 5: I take it. $ 3. 45 for 95 here in Southbridge, which
- 9:25Speaker 5: is about 45 minutes south of Christchurch.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Right, okay.
- 9:29Speaker 5: $ 3. 06 for diesel in Pukekohe. Man, Trump's a dick, isn't he?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Don't. I don't see how the two are related. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 1: not at all.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Hastings Caltex, diesel is at $ 3. 17.
- 9:43Speaker 1: That's the highest one yet.
- 9:44Speaker 5: That's at Hastings Caltex on Amahu Road.
- 9:48Speaker 4: $ 3.
- 9:48Speaker 5: 42 for 91 here in New Brighton Christchurch.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It's outrageous. Yes.
- 9:52Speaker 5: This texter says, less eating and drinking money. And that's 100%,
- 9:57Speaker 5: isn't it? You've got to drive further to get paid.
- 10:00Speaker 5: less by your boss. It's good stuff. This text here,
- 10:04Speaker 5: on the petrol prices, I had a shocker the other day.
- 10:06Speaker 5: I went to the snow on my way back home.
- 10:09Speaker 5: I was looking for a mobile because I've got a
- 10:11Speaker 5: Smiles card. People love their discounts, Jase.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 10:15Speaker 5: You know when the prices are going through the roof?
- 10:17Speaker 5: I went to go to the mobile in Taumaranui. Unfortunately,
- 10:22Speaker 5: Google Maps took me to mobile in Taihape. My internal
- 10:26Speaker 5: GPS around that area isn't great, so I didn't realise
- 10:28Speaker 5: I was going the wrong way until I was 40
- 10:30Speaker 5: minutes the wrong direction, and I was not happy at all.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Not only was I 40 minutes in the wrong direction,
- 10:36Speaker 5: I got there and realised that the gas was more
- 10:38Speaker 5: expensive than it was in Awakuni. I was effing and
- 10:42Speaker 5: jeffing and then got stuck in a snowstorm and had
- 10:46Speaker 5: to sleep in my car.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Can I please have a reburger voucher? Yes, you bloody
- 10:52Speaker 1: well absolutely can. Just on the petrol station, I've got
- 10:56Speaker 1: a funny story about that. Jeez, it's funny.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I bet it is now that you've said that.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It's not petrol related, but it's to do with a
- 11:05Speaker 1: petrol station.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Sure.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And it was in Christchurch, funnily enough, and I woke
- 11:10Speaker 1: up in Christchurch about five in the morning, and I
- 11:12Speaker 1: was like, God, I'd run out of durries. And I
- 11:15Speaker 1: was like, I need a durry. I need a durry.
- 11:18Speaker 5: I need.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So I looked at my phone and, you know, on
- 11:22Speaker 1: the map and said, where's the nearest petrol station? Because
- 11:24Speaker 1: I was going to walk the bastard. And I found
- 11:27Speaker 1: it and it was about, you know, one and a
- 11:28Speaker 1: half K away. And I went, sweet, I'm going to
- 11:31Speaker 1: do it. So I got my clothes on, walked in Christ.
- 11:34Speaker 1: It's freezing cold. You know, it was early hours of
- 11:38Speaker 1: the morning. Finally found the place after much effing and jeffing.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And it was like a little truck stop and it
- 11:44Speaker 1: wasn't even open.
- 11:47Speaker 5: How much was the diesel?
- 11:49Speaker 1: It was about $ 2. 50 at that point, I think.
- 11:52Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Blur there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show. This Friday afternoon,
- 12:00Speaker 1: the time is 4.36 now. We asked Pugs to go
- 12:04Speaker 1: and find some snacks for us, didn't we, Mogi?
- 12:06Speaker 5: Will he do?
- 12:07Speaker 1: He came back with two dry old cheese scones. To
- 12:11Speaker 1: rub salt further into the wound. Where are they? They're
- 12:15Speaker 1: on the kitchen bench. They're on the kitchen bench. You're welcome.
- 12:17Speaker 1: To rub salt further into the wound. There's no butter.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So they're just dry old, crusty cheese scones.
- 12:27Speaker 5: You're a shocking bastard, mate.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Sorry, so not only do you have an issue with
- 12:30Speaker 4: the fact that I got you scones without butter, you
- 12:33Speaker 4: have a problem with scones in the first place?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Well, I'm not a big fan of a cheese scone
- 12:37Speaker 1: to start off with, but needs must. Anyway, now listen.
- 12:42Speaker 1: In good and better news. This is good stuff. We've
- 12:47Speaker 1: released a mascot.
- 12:50Speaker 5: People have been crying out, Jason. You would have been
- 12:52Speaker 5: running into this as well. Been here for nine, five
- 12:54Speaker 5: and a half years, day in, day out, whether it's
- 12:56Speaker 5: a supermarket, whether I'm getting the rego renewed on my car,
- 13:01Speaker 5: whether I'm buying a new pair of slacks. People come
- 13:05Speaker 5: up to me and they say, hey, Radio Hauraki is great,
- 13:07Speaker 5: but where's your mascot?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 5: And so we've been lobbying for this in the background
- 13:11Speaker 5: for years and years and years now, and finally, finally,
- 13:15Speaker 5: it's happened. However, our mascot doesn't have a name.
- 13:18Speaker 3: That's right. If you haven't seen it, go to any
- 13:21Speaker 3: of the Hauraki socials. It's right there.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Essentially, it's a cricket bat with two cricket balls bulging
- 13:28Speaker 4: at the bottom there.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Jase, how do you feel about it as an ex-mascot?
- 13:31Speaker 1: Oh, look.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Because you've spent years being a mascot, haven't you?
- 13:33Speaker 1: If anyone knows their mascots, it's old Horty J. And
- 13:37Speaker 1: this one is an absolute doozy.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Because you see it, don't you?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you do. You do see it. You look at
- 13:43Speaker 1: it and you see it. Yes.
- 13:44Speaker 5: And you think, cricket bat, couple of balls, Radio Hauraki.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's great stuff. So what we're needing is
- 13:54Speaker 1: a name.
- 13:55Speaker 3: That's right.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Have you got anything that leaps to mind?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Well.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Can I tell you what, Jase? This might help because
- 14:03Speaker 5: I've got something here. Now, this was left on my desk. Admittedly,
- 14:06Speaker 5: it's to Jerry and Mania, but I'm going to read
- 14:08Speaker 5: it out anyway. Hi, Jerry and Mania. I'm your new mascot.
- 14:12Speaker 5: I have no name. I also don't speak. A few
- 14:16Speaker 5: facts about me. I'm single. My pronouns are bat, bulls.
- 14:20Speaker 5: I had a big night last night, so I'm slightly dusty.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Please don't ask me to do anything too rigorous. That
- 14:27Speaker 5: was from Gerry and Mania on the Hauraki Breakfast. That
- 14:30Speaker 5: was before Gerry and Mania.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, right. Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah. Well, of course, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I used to be a mascot. His name was Wally
- 14:37Speaker 1: the Wombat.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Oh, there you go. What about Wally the Wombat?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's not a wombat.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Wally the was a bat.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Oh, well.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Come on, you guys.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yes, I see what you're saying there. That could work.
- 14:47Speaker 1: That could work.
- 14:49Speaker 4: I'm sure you can do better. Chuck your suggestion in
- 14:51Speaker 4: at hauraki.co.nz or text mascot to 3483. Then we'll send
- 14:57Speaker 4: you back a link and you can chuck your suggestion in.
- 14:59Speaker 4: All of them are in the drawer for a double
- 15:01Speaker 4: pass to the ACC Export Ultra Party Zone at the
- 15:04Speaker 4: Hot Spring Twee.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Oh, God. We're not taking notes. We're already up to
- 15:13Speaker 1: four here, mate.
- 15:14Speaker 3: The Twee Tenty Black Clash.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff, mate. There's Sheehan.
- 15:20Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at four. Led Zeppelin there on the radio.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Hauraki Big Show this Friday afternoon. The time is 4.40. Well, wait. 4.48.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Let's talk TV. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue. Woo! Yes.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Fellas, I watched something last night, but I can't talk
- 15:51Speaker 5: about it.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Oh.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Because I don't want to be negative about it. But
- 15:56Speaker 5: isn't that the point of this? The show would love that.
- 15:59Speaker 5: I know how hard people work. And so sometimes it's
- 16:02Speaker 5: just best to shut up. Keep your mouth shut. You
- 16:07Speaker 5: do more harm than good. Can I say that?
- 16:10Speaker 3: You can say that.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, man.
- 16:11Speaker 5: So that's all I'm going to say about it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I'll just leave it there.
- 16:13Speaker 5: I did watch something, but I can't.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I can't do it. You can't do it.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Can you say what you disliked without saying what it is?
- 16:20Speaker 5: The illogical decisions that the characters made.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Ah. You know when you're watching something and it's sort
- 16:25Speaker 1: of based in reality?
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:27Speaker 5: It's based in reality. But the people in it are
- 16:29Speaker 5: acting in a way that no human being on earth
- 16:31Speaker 5: would act. And everybody's acting in a way that nobody
- 16:34Speaker 5: would act. But the trouble is it's based in reality.
- 16:37Speaker 5: So because you're basing it in reality and then the
- 16:39Speaker 5: behavior is unrealistic, it just instantly, you're just like, I
- 16:43Speaker 5: am so far from being in on any of this.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I hate you all. Yeah. And I'm pushing stop. So
- 16:51Speaker 1: that's what happened to me. Fellas, I had a very
- 16:53Speaker 1: lazy night last night. Don't look at me like that, pugs,
- 16:57Speaker 1: on the TV. So when my wife and I are
- 16:59Speaker 1: in a lazy mood, we go sort of horrendous doco.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So we watched one last night called A Toxic Love Story.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I saw that one sitting there on Netflix. Netflix, yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 5: They're the home of shitbox murder.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yeah, they are. And to be honest... You can get
- 17:18Speaker 1: all of them on the Samsung Crime Channel, to be fair. Oh, sweet.
- 17:21Speaker 1: You know what I mean? This is the basic premise
- 17:24Speaker 1: of the story. A couple, they break up. Yeah. A
- 17:31Speaker 1: very acrimonious divorce. Then the partner, the man in that couple,
- 17:38Speaker 1: goes and meets a new woman. They form a partnership. Now,
- 17:42Speaker 1: the story runs that the ex-partner... is absolutely filthy about
- 17:48Speaker 1: this new relationship. I started watching this one. And can't
- 17:51Speaker 1: let her partner go and is sending him and her very,
- 17:56Speaker 1: very intense emails about what she's going to do to
- 18:00Speaker 1: them now that they're together.
- 18:01Speaker 5: Uh-oh.
- 18:04Speaker 1: That partner ends up in prison. But was that what happened?
- 18:10Speaker 1: I don't think so. So you need to go and
- 18:14Speaker 1: watch it to find out what actually happened. That's how
- 18:17Speaker 1: it looks from the outside, but actually then they dig deeper,
- 18:21Speaker 1: the cops, and they go, hang about, this doesn't make
- 18:23Speaker 1: any sense. Yeah. This is not... But you've already chucked
- 18:26Speaker 1: her in prison. Yeah, but she's already in prison. This
- 18:30Speaker 1: isn't feeling right here. There's something going on here. So look,
- 18:35Speaker 1: for what it is, Two points, three buzzies out of five. Wow,
- 18:39Speaker 1: three buzzies. Yeah, just three buzzies out of five.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Were you okay watching something that was like, obviously that's
- 18:46Speaker 4: quite dark, after watching Sheena for five nights in a row?
- 18:51Speaker 1: No, it was a good change-up for me. And then
- 18:54Speaker 1: I went back to the Tudors, which is very sexy.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Sexy stuff.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Fellas I've caught the bug and I've thought about little
- 19:03Speaker 4: else other than Widows Bay on Apple TV I think
- 19:06Speaker 4: about it and talk about it all the time and
- 19:08Speaker 4: I'm surprised it took me this long to watch it
- 19:10Speaker 4: but the house that I'm sitting at they have an
- 19:12Speaker 4: Apple TV subscription so I'm all over it and I'm
- 19:14Speaker 4: up to the final episode an intriguing balance of comedy
- 19:19Speaker 4: and horror like sometimes it really leans into the horror
- 19:22Speaker 4: which my partner effing hates yeah but then there'll just
- 19:25Speaker 4: be something in there to break the tension and we'll
- 19:27Speaker 4: be pissing ourselves laughing yeah Really good stuff.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I give it four out of five buzzies.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Just won a record, I believe. Well, it certainly had
- 19:35Speaker 5: a record of nominations, 15 nominations, and it won a
- 19:39Speaker 5: fair chunk as well.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It's a brilliant show. Yeah, don't make me say it.
- 19:44Speaker 1: All right, good stuff, fellas. Let's have a bit of
- 19:46Speaker 1: Arctic Monkey, shall we? The Friday throbber. Yeah. Now, this
- 20:13Speaker 1: has been an institution of the big show, really, hasn't it?
- 20:15Speaker 1: It really is.
- 20:16Speaker 5: It's been here longer than you or I, Jason.
- 20:18Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Actually. And I've got to say, this year, old Keezy
- 20:22Speaker 1: and I have been given an absolute pantsing from Mogi.
- 20:27Speaker 1: He is a runaway. I don't even know why we're bothering,
- 20:33Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I prefer to say that I'm giving you both a
- 20:37Speaker 5: thoroughly deserved poundy.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually, I like that better. And if you don't
- 20:46Speaker 1: know what the Friday thrubber is, just by chance, each
- 20:48Speaker 1: of us in the studio here, we each pick a
- 20:50Speaker 1: song to get you in the Friday mood. Then you
- 20:52Speaker 1: give us a call on 0800 HODUCKY. The first of
- 20:54Speaker 1: two votes wins.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 20:56Speaker 6: All right?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Obviously, no Keezy today, so we're going to have to
- 21:01Speaker 1: endure a Pugsan bloody yummy boys piece of.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Hang on.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I just want to say there's no pugs today, so
- 21:11Speaker 4: I know what the songs are.
- 21:13Speaker 3: And, Jase, I'd be very careful.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Well, you want to start us off, actually. No, no,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you go, pug.
- 21:19Speaker 3: You want me to go?
- 21:20Speaker 6: Yeah, sure.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Sweet, okay.
- 21:21Speaker 5: I'll tell you what you've got.
- 21:23Speaker 3: This is The Streets. Yeah, yeah, like I said, you
- 21:26Speaker 3: already fit. But, my gosh, don't you just know it.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I'm not trying to fool you, even though I would
- 21:33Speaker 1: like to.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Jase?
- 21:38Speaker 1: Mike?
- 21:41Speaker 5: What do you got, Jase?
- 21:44Speaker 1: This will probably irritate you even more, but it's a tune. Look,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you need to indulge me. Just take me back to
- 21:53Speaker 1: my prime. It'll probably win. Take me back to my prime. Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Change.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Righto.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Bit of echo in the Bunnyman. Bit of echo, yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I went with a song that's got a drum in it.
- 22:19Speaker 5: LAUGHTER And that is the result of a video I
- 22:43Speaker 5: was seeing of a guy hanging around in his own kitchen.
- 22:46Speaker 5: just doing that to himself for no particular reason.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, great stuff. Seemed like a sign, fellas. You give
- 22:51Speaker 1: us a call right now on 0800 Hauraki, you decide,
- 22:55Speaker 1: New Zealand. Whoever probably has a final vote in this
- 22:59Speaker 1: will probably give them a re-burger voucher for 50 bucks.
- 23:03Speaker 5: We'll pick them randomly, I reckon. Yeah, totally, why not?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Good on you, mate. In the meantime, here's Green Day.
- 23:09Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 23:14Speaker 1: It's the Hauraki Big Show's Friday Throbber.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Dish, dish.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Mogi.
- 23:24Speaker 6: What?
- 23:25Speaker 3: Come on, man.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I don't know how I feel about today's throbbers, actually.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Mine's great. Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I genuinely, Pugs, genuinely... expect it better from you i
- 23:39Speaker 1: really did.
- 23:39Speaker 5: That i thought we were going to be in for
- 23:42Speaker 5: some kind of a pendulum or yeah say chase and
- 23:46Speaker 5: status so you know something uh and i remember when
- 23:49Speaker 5: uh this that song came out from the streets his
- 23:51Speaker 5: debut his debut single i'm thinking jeez this guy's going
- 23:56Speaker 5: nowhere and so it proved yeah so it proved.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And rightly so if that's the sort of garbage he's
- 24:02Speaker 1: putting out there.
- 24:03Speaker 4: I don't know what kind of shit you were talking about.
- 24:05Speaker 4: It sounds like you're trying to swing the voters.
- 24:06Speaker 1: No, no.
- 24:07Speaker 3: So just keep it to a minimum, all right?
- 24:08Speaker 1: Voters are very strong-willed people.
- 24:10Speaker 5: I'll put it to you this way. There are three
- 24:14Speaker 5: distinct choices here.
- 24:15Speaker 1: That's true.
- 24:16Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 24:17Speaker 3: That's what I said to you.
- 24:17Speaker 5: So people are going to love it one way or
- 24:19Speaker 5: the other.
- 24:20Speaker 1: All right, Pugs, what did you go with?
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, like I said, you are really fit.
- 24:25Speaker 1: You're fit.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh. Don't you just know it.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I'm not trying to fool you.
- 24:31Speaker 2: He's done.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Hoity J, what have you got, man?
- 24:35Speaker 1: Hey, hey, hey. You're not getting 20 seconds, man. Come on, mate.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Get on with it.
- 24:40Speaker 5: You guys have lost touch.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Bit of nostalgia.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Bit of nostalgia for old Hoity J. Under the blue
- 24:55Speaker 1: moon I saw you.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Just going to reserve all judgment until maybe post-Throbber.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, that's sort of what I
- 25:02Speaker 3: was aiming for.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Okay, here we go, man. This is Mogi. Oh, man.
- 25:14Speaker 3: I do love that song.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Okay, good stuff. Do you want to choose where we go.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Here, Mogi?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice of you, man. Let's just start from
- 25:22Speaker 1: the top. Oh, okay.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Jory, you mad bastard. How's life? Oh, not too bad, mate.
- 25:28Speaker 1: How's yours? Yeah, good. Thanks, Jory. What are you running
- 25:31Speaker 1: with there, Jory? I'm going with Mogi today, guys. Yeah, man.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Good on you, Mogi. You get it, man. That's the
- 25:36Speaker 1: thing about you, Jory. You always have. Whatever. G'day, Peter,
- 25:40Speaker 1: you mad bastard.
- 25:41Speaker 5: How's life?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty good. How about you? Yeah, good. Thanks, mate.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Can't complain. Pete up.
- 25:48Speaker 3: What are you running with?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Well, I'm down with the sickness. I'm going with Nogi. Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 5: You get it, man.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You get it.
- 25:56Speaker 5: And probably because he's the only guy left on. Stay
- 25:58Speaker 5: on the line there, Peter, because there could be something
- 26:00Speaker 5: in it for your brother. Because the other guy's gone.
- 26:02Speaker 5: It was just a quick two votes today, fellas.
- 26:04Speaker 1: It's true.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Yeah, true.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Oh, jeez. I suppose you've got to play it then,
- 26:08Speaker 1: don't you? I'm governing the lane. I think we're better, eh?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Might go for wee years, actually. Scum.
- 26:13Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 26:16Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Disturbed. Down with the sickness.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Down with the sickness, man.
- 26:23Speaker 1: That's your throbber for your Friday afternoon.
- 26:26Speaker 5: I wonder what, I guess, first of all, Pugs, can
- 26:29Speaker 5: you give us your thoughts on the songs this week?
- 26:31Speaker 5: Do you have any sort of thoughts here about, you know,
- 26:33Speaker 5: given the history, the quite intense history that we've had
- 26:35Speaker 5: this year around selections, were you surprised that Jase came
- 26:40Speaker 5: in with that particular song?
- 26:44Speaker 3: No, not necessarily.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yeah, why?
- 26:48Speaker 5: Just in the sense that it's not a throbber again.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely.
- 26:51Speaker 1: No, not a throbber.
- 26:52Speaker 5: And we've been through this time and time and time again.
- 26:56Speaker 3: What if I told you that wasn't his first choice?
- 26:58Speaker 1: Okay, great.
- 26:59Speaker 3: So he actually had another song that probably would have
- 27:01Speaker 3: been better.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Right.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And I'll leave it with you, Jase, because you might
- 27:04Speaker 3: want to use it on another week.
- 27:06Speaker 1: But a tool. Oh, did you? Yeah. What happened there?
- 27:11Speaker 1: I just wasn't feeling it. You know what I mean?
- 27:13Speaker 3: You didn't feel like winning.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And then I was listening to my tunes and I went, oh,
- 27:17Speaker 1: this old doozy. This is a great song. It's not
- 27:20Speaker 1: a Throbba Hoi DJ. By any stretch of the imagination.
- 27:24Speaker 1: You might just squeeze through because a few backbones out
- 27:27Speaker 1: there might go, oh, yeah, that's a tune. I love
- 27:28Speaker 1: that song.
- 27:29Speaker 5: You only need two passionate people, two passionate fans of
- 27:32Speaker 5: a song to pick up the phone and start dialing.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Where I feel, I mean, fair cop, Mogi, well done.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I just feel like that was Pugs' fault, though. You
- 27:42Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 27:42Speaker 3: That you won that.
- 27:43Speaker 1: That's right. Because I don't even know what his song was.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Would you define his as a throbber?
- 27:49Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I wouldn't, no.
- 27:51Speaker 6: No.
- 27:52Speaker 5: That's because I've long held a hatred for that particular song.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Doesn't mean it's bad by any stretch of the imagination.
- 27:57Speaker 5: But for me, I just feel.
- 28:00Speaker 1: For me... It sucks. Yeah, look, and I'm only speaking
- 28:05Speaker 1: from my point of view.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Mogi's allowed to talk. You are not allowed to say shit.
- 28:13Speaker 1: My perspective here, God, I hated it so much. But....
- 28:21Speaker 3: It was the streets fit me in and it is
- 28:23Speaker 3: a tune. That was big for me in the 2000s.
- 28:26Speaker 5: A huge song. Absolutely it was. And here we are.
- 28:29Speaker 5: We find ourselves, you know, on the verge of... Well,
- 28:34Speaker 5: on the verge of... daylight savings we're almost in october
- 28:38Speaker 5: yeah how good and.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Pugs huh still yet to get on board zero i
- 28:42Speaker 3: know it's humiliating zero with an.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Asterisk i don't want to okay we'll go through the
- 28:47Speaker 4: school board pugs zero where did i get an asterisk
- 28:50Speaker 4: from oh probably for the street song yeah yeah yeah
- 28:53Speaker 4: uh okay so pugs on a fat zero with an
- 28:56Speaker 4: asterisk uh at way out in front uh 17 now
- 29:00Speaker 4: well done Are we.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Getting into unassailable territory here? I think we are.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Well, Keezy probably has a better shot with 11.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And one asterisk. Jace, seven with two asterisks and a
- 29:17Speaker 4: small D.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 5: The other thing, of course, is you guys have got
- 29:22Speaker 5: a couple of weeks coming off. Coming up. So I've
- 29:25Speaker 5: got a chance to extend my lead.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 5: And then I might just do a few comedy tunes,
- 29:29Speaker 5: you know?
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Just for the hell of it when you're out in front, eh?
- 29:32Speaker 3: You can just toy with us.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff. How do you guys feel about a
- 29:37Speaker 1: bit of powder finger just to, calm down a bit?
- 29:40Speaker 5: Bit of a palate cleanser.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Yes, I think so.
- 29:43Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 29:47Speaker 6: Red.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Chili Peppers there on the Hodaki Big Show this Friday afternoon.
- 29:53Speaker 1: The time is 5.26. Now, regular listeners to this show
- 29:56Speaker 1: will know that over the last three months, the fellas
- 29:58Speaker 1: have embarked on a dining culinary experience, namely come dine
- 30:04Speaker 1: with the fellas. Mogi, I, and Keezy have all done
- 30:09Speaker 1: our turns, and there's only one person left to go,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and that's old Puck's arm. Come dine with?
- 30:17Speaker 4: The Feelers.
- 30:20Speaker 3: G'day, fellas.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Let me start by saying there is a webpage up
- 30:23Speaker 4: now under the gigs and events tab at hodoki.co.nz, which
- 30:27Speaker 4: is a full recap of all the dinner parties so far,
- 30:31Speaker 4: so all the videos that we've done, and also the
- 30:34Speaker 4: podcast so you can catch up on the reviews and
- 30:37Speaker 4: the scoring.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yes. Hodoki.co.nz. Bloody great work from you, Pugs.
- 30:40Speaker 3: It was actually Dilly. Now, fellas, I.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Bloody great work from Dilly, too. Yeah, really good work
- 30:46Speaker 1: from Dilly. Jeez.
- 30:47Speaker 3: I have a question for you guys.
- 30:49Speaker 4: But before I get into asking for advice from two
- 30:53Speaker 4: people that have hosted already, I just want to make
- 30:55Speaker 4: sure that this won't affect my sort of scoring down
- 30:59Speaker 4: the line if I, you know, just ask you guys
- 31:00Speaker 4: a couple of questions.
- 31:01Speaker 1: No, no.
- 31:01Speaker 5: I mean, Keezy asked a whole bunch of questions, didn't he?
- 31:04Speaker 1: He did.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Okay.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And just before you ask your question, and this is
- 31:08Speaker 1: just as a sideline, from the very outset, I want
- 31:10Speaker 1: to be very clear that that I've always said you're
- 31:13Speaker 1: the favourite for this. Yes. You constantly come in telling
- 31:17Speaker 1: us about your magnificent meals that you create. And so
- 31:21Speaker 1: Mogi and I are very much looking forward to it.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Very confident. The only thing I really worry about is
- 31:26Speaker 5: the vibe.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Yes.
- 31:28Speaker 5: That's just going to happen on its own. There's nothing
- 31:30Speaker 5: you can really do about it.
- 31:31Speaker 1: No, no.
- 31:31Speaker 3: You don't think it's going to be a good vibe?
- 31:33Speaker 5: Well, I just don't know. I just don't know.
- 31:36Speaker 3: You can't tell with me, eh?
- 31:37Speaker 1: We don't know. Just wear your beret, we'll get it.
- 31:39Speaker 1: A couple of chuckles.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Can it be your mother-in-law's beret?
- 31:42Speaker 1: Yeah, sure. She won't mind.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I just want to check on the, get really specific
- 31:47Speaker 4: about the rules of the share of work.
- 31:51Speaker 3: In the kitchen.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Because, so obviously I'm planning the meals at the moment
- 31:56Speaker 4: with my darling partner. We're working out our theme, our
- 31:59Speaker 4: menu and things like that. And we've got a bit
- 32:01Speaker 4: of time. But when my partner has a meal idea
- 32:05Speaker 4: in mind or, you know, is sharing an idea with me.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:10Speaker 4: She really wants to take charge of that, especially if
- 32:15Speaker 4: it's something that maybe is on theme that she's made before.
- 32:18Speaker 4: So I just sort of want to check how, in
- 32:21Speaker 4: order to ensure my scoring is safe, that I can
- 32:25Speaker 4: toe the line, how much can my partner help.
- 32:29Speaker 3: When it comes to the cooking and the preparing and things.
- 32:32Speaker 1: She's wearing the pants, is she? She's wearing the pants.
- 32:34Speaker 3: She sometimes wears pants.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Nice.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Not all the time. Well, it's a tricky one, isn't it?
- 32:39Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you. Well, what you've got here
- 32:41Speaker 5: is you've got, I did everything by myself.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 5: Keezy did everything by himself. Jase got help. Now, Jase,
- 32:50Speaker 5: in all honesty, should have been marked down for that,
- 32:53Speaker 5: but he wasn't. So he got lucky. The problem that
- 32:56Speaker 5: you've got now is we're sort of been establishing the.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Rules a little bit as we go along. Yes, yeah.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Because the problem we've got is we haven't done it
- 33:05Speaker 5: like come down with me at all. What we should
- 33:06Speaker 5: have done is everybody has to set their menu the
- 33:09Speaker 5: week before, so everyone's locked into what they're doing. You
- 33:12Speaker 5: can't change it and go, oh, my God, this has
- 33:14Speaker 5: been a great day. I'm going to change what I'm
- 33:15Speaker 5: going to do because I've seen what they've done.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:17Speaker 5: Because you've set your menu, you've set your theme, and
- 33:20Speaker 5: you go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of a week, and
- 33:23Speaker 5: that's your lot.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:25Speaker 5: So that's what we haven't done. So there's been a
- 33:26Speaker 5: whole bunch of rule shifts over the course of this.
- 33:28Speaker 1: It's been quite flexible.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Which have led to some, you know, there's people unhappy.
- 33:32Speaker 5: Some people out there are unhappy.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Well, most notably and recently, Keezy preparing some food before
- 33:38Speaker 4: his actual dinner party.
- 33:39Speaker 5: That's right.
- 33:40Speaker 1: That's right.
- 33:40Speaker 5: Up to three days before. And now, you know, that's
- 33:45Speaker 5: good planning.
- 33:45Speaker 1: It's a disgrace.
- 33:46Speaker 5: It's good planning is what it is.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:49Speaker 5: Right. So I think what you're going to find, Pugs,
- 33:52Speaker 5: is in all honesty– The questions are going to come
- 33:55Speaker 5: at you, if not from me, certainly from Keezy.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he's going to be extra harsh.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Keezy is going to be asking you, when was this made?
- 34:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 5: By whom? What day?
- 34:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 5: You're going to get all of those questions.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Well, I feed back to him that I thought his
- 34:10Speaker 4: entree could have used a bit more risk, and he said,
- 34:11Speaker 4: can't wait for your risky entree.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Well, and I think you're right. I mean, you gave
- 34:15Speaker 5: him an eight, but I asked him for the recipe,
- 34:17Speaker 5: and there isn't one.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 34:21Speaker 5: Do you know?
- 34:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 5: And so you've got to mark that. So he's going
- 34:24Speaker 5: to have a very high. I think that Keezy is
- 34:27Speaker 5: going to be throwing sixes left, right, and center.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I really do.
- 34:29Speaker 4: And I'm going to have to cop it because of
- 34:31Speaker 4: you guys, which is so good. 100%.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Because what Keezy's not going to want to do, Jason,
- 34:36Speaker 5: and you know him as well as anyone, you think
- 34:38Speaker 5: Keezy's going to want to come last on this?
- 34:40Speaker 1: No. I don't. I don't.
- 34:44Speaker 5: So I think old Keezy's going to be dragging down
- 34:46Speaker 5: the vibe.
- 34:46Speaker 1: He's going to be throwing haymakers. He is. You know
- 34:49Speaker 1: what I mean? He's going to go in there just swinging.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Entree, this is the best thing I've ever eaten.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Three.
- 34:56Speaker 4: So I think the vibe is just do whatever I'm
- 34:59Speaker 4: going to do and accept that there's probably going to
- 35:01Speaker 4: be a few curveballs.
- 35:02Speaker 5: I think you do your best. You're going to give
- 35:04Speaker 5: yourself your best opportunity if you do it all yourself.
- 35:08Speaker 5: If you do it all yourself. That would be my
- 35:11Speaker 5: recommendation to you.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Will there be some sticky beef?
- 35:15Speaker 3: Maybe tofu.
- 35:17Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike, and Keezy. Tune

- 36:01Speaker 4: Friday after that.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yes, we do. So what should we do? Give our
- 36:04Speaker 1: winner a call, fellas? Let's do it! Let's do.
- 36:07Speaker 2: It!
- 36:09Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Hello. G'day. Is this Liam, is it? It is. Yeah, g'day, Liam.
- 36:14Speaker 1: It's old hoity J, Mogi and Pugsun from the big show.
- 36:17Speaker 1: How you going, you mad bastard?
- 36:19Speaker 5: Oh, I'm very well, thank you.
- 36:21Speaker 1: How you going? Now, Liam, I understand that you took
- 36:25Speaker 1: part in our competition with our mates at Trade Tested.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Is that correct? Yeah, I did, actually. Yeah, okay.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Liam, do you remember anything from your wish list that.
- 36:35Speaker 3: You put on there? Oh, I put stand-up paddle boards.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Which is crazy, by the way. I remember I've got
- 36:43Speaker 4: a couple of the other things here. You've got a barbecue,
- 36:44Speaker 4: a chest freezer, a trolley, and that paddleboard.
- 36:49Speaker 5: Oh, sick.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Does that sound right to you, Liam?
- 36:52Speaker 5: Yeah, sounds about right.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well, great news for you, my friend. That's all yours.
- 36:58Speaker 1: How good?
- 36:59Speaker 5: Pretty good, man.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Not bad.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Just $ 2, 500, man. Not a bad day, not.
- 37:03Speaker 1: A bad day. Not bad at all.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Right in time for summer. What's your favourite thing to
- 37:08Speaker 4: chuck on the barbie there, man?
- 37:11Speaker 5: Oh, I do like a stay.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Having some fresh food.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. Yeah, yeah. Good on you. And what
- 37:19Speaker 1: are your plans tonight there, Liam? A bit of celebrating,
- 37:22Speaker 1: I imagine.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Might have to be.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I've got work tomorrow.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Oh, that can wait.
- 37:26Speaker 5: Well, you can just go and see your boss and
- 37:28Speaker 5: tell him that you can stick the.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm Rich Smogie. Yeah!
- 37:33Speaker 3: You did it, man.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Yeah!
- 37:35Speaker 3: Hold the line, Liam.
- 37:37Speaker 4: You can get everything you need for summer from tradetester.co.nz.
- 37:41Speaker 3: The competition is still open.
- 37:42Speaker 4: So head to hodaki.co.nz for all the details.
- 37:46Speaker 3: All right, fellas?
- 37:47Speaker 5: Fellas. Fellas.
- 37:49Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Yeah, boy. News on the Hodaki Big Show. This Friday evening,
- 37:59Speaker 1: the time is 5.51. Fellas, very exciting night in the
- 38:02Speaker 1: Hoiti J household last night. Another auction started, an estate auction,
- 38:07Speaker 1: which is basically an online auction where they go to
- 38:10Speaker 1: deceased estates. And just grab all the stuff and then
- 38:14Speaker 1: sell it.
- 38:14Speaker 5: It's where the people die, pugs. Often of old age.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Judging by the things that they have.
- 38:21Speaker 1: A lot of the things.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Now, can I say, Jase, I also, I get the emails,
- 38:24Speaker 5: I trawl through them as well. Yes. It's really weird
- 38:27Speaker 5: because it's all very, very similar stuff. Do you know
- 38:29Speaker 5: what I mean?
- 38:30Speaker 6: Yes, I do.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Like auction by auction by auction.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Everyone's got a bunch of weird chairs, vases, lamps, and
- 38:37Speaker 5: all sorts, but all very much in the same style. Generally,
- 38:41Speaker 5: either incredibly expensive or very suspiciously reasonably priced.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:46Speaker 5: You know, and I would love to buy it all,
- 38:49Speaker 5: but it's one of those things where it's like, well,
- 38:50Speaker 5: I absolutely do not need it.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 5: And I'd just be wasting what money I've got.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 5: And so I sort of steer clear of it now,
- 38:58Speaker 5: but I spend a lot of time on those things.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they're great stuff. I mean, if you're looking, as
- 39:03Speaker 1: you say, something a bit more unusual or outside the box,
- 39:07Speaker 1: you know, not your sort of store-bought stuff, pugs aren't.
- 39:18Speaker 1: But it's a really interesting thing for me because I
- 39:21Speaker 1: observe myself while I'm observing things. And I i get
- 39:25Speaker 1: sort of obsessions about stuff and i don't know why
- 39:27Speaker 1: um for example my latest obsession is japanese knives and
- 39:33Speaker 1: i'm not talking like sumaru uh sumeride knives or anything
- 39:37Speaker 1: like that sumeride sumeride Samurai. There you go. Sorry.
- 39:45Speaker 6: God.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I mean Japanese cooking knives. Yes. Like they're handmade. Oh,
- 39:50Speaker 1: they're beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Yeah. So I was getting into
- 39:55Speaker 1: those because there were hundreds of the buggers, and I
- 39:56Speaker 1: was like, this is great stuff. Bid on that bar.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It's $ 20. That's a bargain. Bidding away on all these knives.
- 40:04Speaker 1: But the ridiculous thing about that is the day before
- 40:09Speaker 1: this auction, My wife, we were looking at all our
- 40:13Speaker 1: knives in the kitchen. This is before I even saw
- 40:15Speaker 1: the Japanese knives. and she said, oh, we should go
- 40:18Speaker 1: and get those sharpened. And I said, oh, do you
- 40:22Speaker 1: know where to go to get them sharpened? And she said, oh, yeah,
- 40:25Speaker 1: a friend of mine, she was out with a friend
- 40:27Speaker 1: of hers, and she'd taken this big bundle of knives
- 40:29Speaker 1: with her. Yeah. And my wife was like, oh, where
- 40:31Speaker 1: are you taking those? And she said, oh, just down
- 40:32Speaker 1: the road to get them sharpened. And I said, oh, well,
- 40:35Speaker 1: what a great idea. And it was cheap as chips. Yeah.
- 40:38Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And we've got like six
- 40:40Speaker 1: or seven really nice knives.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Right.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Cooking knives. And I, well, let's do that, for goodness sakes.
- 40:45Speaker 1: And so that was, you know, I'd only just had
- 40:48Speaker 1: that conversation, and now I'm looking at Japanese cooking.
- 40:52Speaker 5: Knives going, oh, that's a beauty. I want to bid
- 40:54Speaker 5: on that bastard. You're not buying the practicality. You're buying
- 40:58Speaker 5: it because it's cool.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah, the dream.
- 41:01Speaker 5: And because you need to occupy your time. Well, that's
- 41:03Speaker 5: why drinking was so good because you're very, very rarely
- 41:06Speaker 5: going to be drinking and just sitting around buying knives
- 41:10Speaker 5: you're out and about you're having adventures yes are.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Your knives no good are they lacking.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Well there's some of them are really not sharp this
- 41:18Speaker 5: is the thing and this is what people do right
- 41:19Speaker 5: you buy great knives and a great knife any knife
- 41:21Speaker 5: really should last you your whole life not any knife
- 41:24Speaker 5: but it should but it used to be that everybody
- 41:26Speaker 5: would have in their house a stone and a steel
- 41:28Speaker 5: and you'd sharpen it yourself but nobody knows how to
- 41:30Speaker 5: do it anymore so they just get blunt Then you
- 41:33Speaker 5: F and Jeff, and then you stab yourself with it.
- 41:35Speaker 5: And then you bin him, and if you want a
- 41:37Speaker 5: sharp knife, you need a new one.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 41:39Speaker 4: Well, you were saying it's because a lot of the
- 41:42Speaker 4: time that people have died that these estate things kind
- 41:44Speaker 4: of come along.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Maybe it was, in this case, a.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Sumaru that passed away. It could have been a sumaru.
- 41:50Speaker 3: A sumari or a sumaru.
- 41:51Speaker 1: A sumaru. Well, you know, and the other thing I
- 41:53Speaker 1: need to factor in here, and I think this is
- 41:55Speaker 1: a sort of unconscious part of my brain is Pugsan's
- 41:58Speaker 1: looking after my joint again. Oh, yeah. And you know,
- 42:01Speaker 1: he is a top quality chef. He loves all, he
- 42:05Speaker 1: loves all things Japanese.
- 42:07Speaker 3: You're setting me up for failure.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And I'm thinking to myself, geez, I better have, imagine
- 42:13Speaker 1: how good that'll be for Pugsan to have in my
- 42:14Speaker 1: block there some handcrafted Japanese cooking knives for his sticky beef,
- 42:22Speaker 1: et cetera.
- 42:25Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 42:28Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope your Friday's absolutely going off.
- 42:35Speaker 1: You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally, brought to you
- 42:38Speaker 1: by Reburger.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Serving good times and good food. Dine in or take
- 42:42Speaker 4: away Reburger today.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Scrumptedly umptious. I believe you're going out for dinner tonight,
- 42:51Speaker 1: old mogey.
- 42:52Speaker 5: We've got a bit of a date night with the
- 42:54Speaker 5: miso there.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Lovely.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Going out for something to eat somewhere, and then I'm
- 42:59Speaker 5: going to a comedy show, or we're going to a
- 43:01Speaker 5: comedy show, so it'll be bloody good. Yeah, yeah, excited.
- 43:05Speaker 5: What are you eating, Pugs? What am I eating?
- 43:08Speaker 4: So my partner's actually stuck around to catch up with
- 43:11Speaker 4: me post-show because we're going to walk home, and there's
- 43:14Speaker 4: a fish and chip shop we've been eyeing up in
- 43:16Speaker 4: the area that we're house-sitting that looks quite fancy, and.
- 43:18Speaker 3: I don't often get, like, nice up-market fish and chips.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Do you not?
- 43:22Speaker 4: And she's getting back into her seafood, so it seems
- 43:25Speaker 4: like the right sort of Friday takeaway sort of yarn.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Good luck.
- 43:29Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 43:29Speaker 5: Well, it could go either way, and there's seabricks, but
- 43:32Speaker 5: it used to be, like, Fish and chips used to
- 43:35Speaker 5: be a cornerstone for the broke human. You know, you
- 43:39Speaker 5: had no money, you always had three bucks, piece of
- 43:41Speaker 5: fish in a scoop.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Yeah, sweet.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Not anymore, mate, forget about that.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Especially not in the area you're in.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Well, no, we want to try it. We want to
- 43:48Speaker 3: try it out. Jase, what are you having, man?
- 43:51Speaker 1: That really gets on my gut. I still fume about
- 43:55Speaker 1: burgers that are like 20, 25 bucks. I go, no, no. No,
- 44:00Speaker 1: thank you.
- 44:00Speaker 3: The only place that it's worth every dollar or more
- 44:03Speaker 3: is Rebid.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. Absolutely.
- 44:05Speaker 5: And even then, that's not how much they cost.
- 44:07Speaker 1: No.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so much cheaper than that. Unless you double up.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I'm meeting my wife after the show. Look
- 44:15Speaker 1: at us. Just three fellas meeting up with their girls.
- 44:18Speaker 1: With their loved ones for a Friday. Yeah, we'll have
- 44:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a wander, find somewhere to eat
- 44:23Speaker 1: and then go home and I'll get back into, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 1: trying to. go on the auction again, probably. Yeah, I reckon.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Good luck, man. It's a nice little pug sign. Hey,
- 44:32Speaker 1: now remember, if you've got an idea for Name Our Bear,
- 44:35Speaker 1: text us now, 3483. You could win yourself an amazing
- 44:40Speaker 1: Emerson's hoodie.
- 44:41Speaker 4: And also, we're going to be giving out some advice
- 44:44Speaker 4: on Meat Patty, what is it?
- 44:45Speaker 3: MeatPattyNips69 at gmail.com.
- 44:48Speaker 1: That's not right.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Now I'm going to screw it up the next time, too.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Is this rage?
- 44:55Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 44:59Speaker 1: The blank keys there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
- 45:02Speaker 1: this Friday evening. Now, we've teamed up with our good
- 45:05Speaker 1: mates at Emerson's Brewery again. They've created a new beer.
- 45:09Speaker 1: What is it? A tropical hazy pale ale.
- 45:12Speaker 3: That's exactly right, Jason.
- 45:13Speaker 4: It's all in celebration of the 2026 Dunedin Craft Beer
- 45:16Speaker 4: and Food Festival. Without spoiling too much, we might be
- 45:20Speaker 4: making a little trip down there. But we've been looking
- 45:22Speaker 4: for a name for it, haven't we, fellas?
- 45:24Speaker 6: What's that?
- 45:24Speaker 1: That was weird, man. We are going to be down there.
- 45:29Speaker 1: We're doing a live show, aren't we? It's number nine. Yes,
- 45:35Speaker 1: we are. Yes, we are going to be down there.
- 45:39Speaker 4: We've been looking for name suggestions on 3483 for your
- 45:42Speaker 4: chance to win an Emerson's hoodie.
- 45:43Speaker 3: We've had some great ones.
- 45:45Speaker 4: I have one earlier that was Shite Bear for Sea Bombs,
- 45:48Speaker 4: which isn't really going to get you over the line.
- 45:50Speaker 4: But we are going to call someone that has a
- 45:52Speaker 4: name idea. Let's give them a call, fellas.
- 45:55Speaker 5: Oh, God.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Luke.
- 46:01Speaker 1: G'day, mate. What are you doing? What are you doing?
- 46:05Speaker 1: 20J and Mogi and Pugsan from The Big Show. How
- 46:07Speaker 1: are you going? I'm doing good. Just looking good, mate.
- 46:10Speaker 1: How are you? Yeah, good, thanks, mate. Who are we
- 46:12Speaker 1: speaking to?
- 46:14Speaker 4: Pardon?
- 46:14Speaker 1: Who are we speaking to?
- 46:16Speaker 4: Elliot.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Elliot.
- 46:18Speaker 5: Elliot Niers.
- 46:19Speaker 6: What?
- 46:20Speaker 3: You're in Dunners, aren't you, Elliot?
- 46:22Speaker 5: That's the one.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Yeah, good. How's Dunners today, Elliot?
- 46:26Speaker 4: It's actually a beautiful evening it's come out to be.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Oh, nice.
- 46:29Speaker 5: You sound like you're having a bit of a nap there, man,
- 46:33Speaker 5: or are you just stoned? I better call him mate.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I better call.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Him mate. Oh, yes. That's no good, mate.
- 46:40Speaker 6: Hey.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Hey, now, I believe that you sent through an idea
- 46:43Speaker 1: for naming our bear. Is that correct, Elliot?
- 46:47Speaker 4: That is correct.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Can you remember what it was?
- 46:50Speaker 2: That'd be hazy and pale yellow wheeze.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Yeah. Hazy and pale yellow.
- 46:56Speaker 5: With me, Keezy.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got a winner.
- 46:59Speaker 3: I think we might as well just chuck with me, Keezy,
- 47:01Speaker 3: on the end of anything.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Now, Elliot, thanks to you, mate. That name is in
- 47:06Speaker 3: the hat, I guess.
- 47:07Speaker 4: And we're going to send you an Emerson's hoodie in
- 47:10Speaker 4: celebration of the 2026 Deleting Craft Beer and Food Festival.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Will we see you there since you're a Dunners man?
- 47:16Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Yeah, good on you. Good on you, Ali. Wrap up warm, mate.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Frigging backbone, man.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I tell you what, you hold the line, and I'll
- 47:22Speaker 4: get back to you after this, and we'll get your
- 47:24Speaker 4: hoodie size.
- 47:25Speaker 1: All right, mate?
- 47:25Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike, and Keezy. Tune
- 47:28Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 47:31Speaker 1: The White Stripes there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show
- 47:34Speaker 1: this Friday evening. Now, fellas, something's... Something's.
- 47:40Speaker 5: Got a hold on my heart.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got a hold on me.
- 47:42Speaker 1: All right? It's really got deep inside my goat. Because
- 47:47Speaker 1: I've got a bit of a bone to pick, actually.
- 47:49Speaker 6: Ah.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I got a bone to pick. Well, I don't even
- 47:54Speaker 1: know if it's a bone to pick, but something has
- 47:56Speaker 1: started happening, and I don't understand it, and it's to
- 47:59Speaker 1: do with social media.
- 48:00Speaker 6: Ew.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Uh-oh.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 48:03Speaker 6: Now.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I've noticed of late, maybe the last sort of three
- 48:06Speaker 1: or four days, I've been wandering around and I'll get
- 48:10Speaker 1: a notification on my phone and it'll say, such and
- 48:14Speaker 1: such has responded to your comments on Instagram. And I'll go, oh, okay.
- 48:24Speaker 1: And I'll go and see what the comment is. And
- 48:27Speaker 1: what it's referring to, you know, and it'll often be
- 48:30Speaker 1: of a political nature. Let me put it that way. Yes.
- 48:33Speaker 1: But here's my point. And this has happened like four
- 48:37Speaker 1: or five times now where people have responded to my
- 48:41Speaker 1: comment about something and I haven't made a comment. Right. No,
- 48:46Speaker 1: genuinely haven't made a comment about it, and I'm trying
- 48:50Speaker 1: to find where's this comment of mine that this person
- 48:54Speaker 1: is responding to, and there is no Hoity J comment.
- 48:57Speaker 5: And that's where they've got you, though, haven't they? Because
- 48:59Speaker 5: what are you doing at that point?
- 49:01Speaker 1: Well, I've gone in to see.
- 49:03Speaker 5: You're back on Instagram, mate.
- 49:05Speaker 1: You're back on the treadmill. They've got you. They've done you.
- 49:08Speaker 1: You've been done again. Have I been done again? You've
- 49:10Speaker 1: been done. Is that genuinely what it is, though?
- 49:12Speaker 5: You've been absolutely done.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Because I'm like, what the Well, that's interesting you say
- 49:17Speaker 1: that because my wife said to me the other day,
- 49:19Speaker 1: she's been off Instagram for like a whole month. Right.
- 49:22Speaker 3: She's gone, that's it.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I'm not doing it. And she's been getting these messages saying,
- 49:30Speaker 1: have you responded to the message from blah, blah, blah?
- 49:32Speaker 1: And she's like, what?
- 49:34Speaker 4: What?
- 49:35Speaker 1: And she'll go into her phone and it's like she
- 49:38Speaker 1: responded to a message from a friend like a month ago. Yeah,
- 49:42Speaker 1: that's right.
- 49:42Speaker 5: So because she's not on there, they're sending her messages
- 49:46Speaker 5: to get her back on there. Is that genuinely what
- 49:49Speaker 5: it is?
- 49:50Speaker 6: 100%.
- 49:50Speaker 5: There's nothing these sons of bitches won't do. If I
- 49:52Speaker 5: could suggest anything to you, and I've never had them on.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Turn your notifications off for social media. There is nothing
- 50:02Speaker 5: of interest there. Like that. Someone's responded to your comment.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Who gives a shit? Generally, I don't care.
- 50:11Speaker 5: But you're straight back in there. It's got you, you see.
- 50:13Speaker 4: And you're asking the question.
- 50:17Speaker 1: And you're right, but only from the perspective of, well,
- 50:19Speaker 1: what was my comment? I don't remember what my comment was.
- 50:23Speaker 1: That's what they say because otherwise they would put your
- 50:25Speaker 1: comment in there, right?
- 50:26Speaker 3: Yes.
- 50:26Speaker 5: But they don't want to do that because it gets
- 50:28Speaker 5: you curious enough to go and have a look. They're
- 50:30Speaker 5: not idiots, mate. They got you. If you have got
- 50:33Speaker 5: social media, turn off your notifications. It's not important enough.
- 50:36Speaker 5: That way, at least you're only going in there when
- 50:38Speaker 5: you want to. That makes me filthy to know that.
- 50:40Speaker 5: Which is also too often. It's bad enough.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 50:43Speaker 5: It's bad enough without getting sent messages saying, come and
- 50:46Speaker 5: have a gaze at these.
- 50:47Speaker 4: The best thing I've ever done is turn off notifications
- 50:49Speaker 4: for Instagram to stop seeing your nerd reels. Your AI
- 50:54Speaker 4: horror slop shirt.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Pudge, they're not nerd reels. They are. They are just
- 50:59Speaker 1: reels that I think you'd appreciate.
- 51:00Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 51:01Speaker 3: I think there's something karmic happening here.
- 51:02Speaker 1: And be, you know, part of a community of nerds.
- 51:08Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Jane's addiction there on the Hauraki Big Show this Friday
- 51:16Speaker 1: evening now. A lot of people are struggling with the
- 51:18Speaker 1: world out there at the moment, and it's great to
- 51:21Speaker 1: have old-timers like me and Mogi to give out advice
- 51:24Speaker 1: on any given situation. So let's give out that advice.
- 51:34Speaker 3: At gmail.com get in touch with the fellas.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Get on with it please bud it's a real email
- 51:47Speaker 6: address meetpattynips69 at gmail.com send in your advice We'll keep
- 51:54Speaker 6: it anonymous unless you specifically request. And if you get
- 51:57Speaker 6: it read out on the radio, I'll eventually send you
- 52:00Speaker 6: a rebid year voucher.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Can I just correct you there? Don't send in your advice. No,
- 52:05Speaker 1: send in your question. And we'll give you the advice.
- 52:08Speaker 1: It's all G, man.
- 52:11Speaker 5: Can you just make a note of that, James?
- 52:13Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I have already. Okay, sweet.
- 52:16Speaker 5: Dear Bogsy.
- 52:18Speaker 3: G'day, Fjells. Long-time listener, first-time texter. Well, it's an email.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Cheers for your advice.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Anonymous. Yeah, that's a really big call. Yeah. Welcome to
- 52:56Speaker 1: a life of isolation. Yes.
- 52:58Speaker 5: That's no good, man. That's no good. You're going to
- 53:00Speaker 5: be working from home. This is exactly what happened to
- 53:02Speaker 5: me going to Waiheke.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Yes, true.
- 53:04Speaker 5: Six-week-old daughter, wife. None of my family told me that
- 53:08Speaker 5: you need to be around family to help you with
- 53:11Speaker 5: the upbringing of your sprog there. So off we went
- 53:14Speaker 5: to Waiheke Island, completely isolated.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Boom, COVID hits. Boom, home alone. Boom.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:21Speaker 1: It's a toughie.
- 53:22Speaker 5: And the beautiful thing about living on Waiheke is we
- 53:25Speaker 5: didn't bond with our community at all.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Yeah, good.
- 53:29Speaker 5: I haven't got a single friend over there. We lived
- 53:31Speaker 5: there for, was it three and a half, four years?
- 53:33Speaker 5: I don't know anyone that lives there.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Was it that long?
- 53:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Wow. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
- 53:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a long time.
- 53:38Speaker 1: It's a beautiful spot.
- 53:40Speaker 5: I was just saying today I really, really miss it.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 53:44Speaker 5: But not the people. I don't miss the people at
- 53:45Speaker 5: all because I don't meet any.
- 53:48Speaker 1: I think in relation to this, what you need to
- 53:52Speaker 1: be prepared for in this situation is a slow creeping
- 53:57Speaker 1: madness and insanity.
- 53:58Speaker 6: Yes.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Thank you. Of just going crazy because you're isolated, as
- 54:05Speaker 1: Mogi said. You're locked in your own head. You've got
- 54:08Speaker 1: none of your pals around. It's a shit show.
- 54:11Speaker 5: You've got to join clubs, especially if you're working from home.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Any kind of sex club that you can get your
- 54:17Speaker 5: hands on. Anything that's a swinging, and they'll be there. Oh,
- 54:22Speaker 5: they're certainly in the rural communities. Yeah, absolutely they will.
- 54:25Speaker 5: So any kind of swinging, anything like that, you've just
- 54:28Speaker 5: got to get yourself involved in it because that's all
- 54:31Speaker 5: the rage.
- 54:31Speaker 1: I tell you what I did when I was in
- 54:33Speaker 1: a very small little community. I joined the local fire brigade. Yes.
- 54:38Speaker 5: Volunteer.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Yeah, as a volunteer. Yeah, good on you, man. And
- 54:41Speaker 1: we had meetings every two weeks. It's true story, Pugs.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Meetings every two weeks. And when I say meetings, I
- 54:46Speaker 1: mean massive piss-ups.
- 54:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 1: And someone might bang on for 15 minutes about a
- 54:52Speaker 1: type of fire that may happen and what you need
- 54:55Speaker 1: to do. But we're all too steamed to really take
- 54:58Speaker 1: it in. True to it. And then I'd stagger back
- 55:02Speaker 1: from the local community hall to my residence. Yeah, good. Yeah.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I grew a lot of natural things out there too.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I did a lot of fishing and made homebrew.
- 55:12Speaker 5: The sad thing as well is, of course, that you've
- 55:14Speaker 5: got to be near her family.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Just divorce her. Yeah, it's over.
- 55:19Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Well, there you go, you mad bastards. That's the big
- 55:32Speaker 1: show done and dusted this Friday evening. It's been a
- 55:35Speaker 1: pleasure bringing it to you. And the disclaimer, which was
- 55:39Speaker 1: formerly known as the outro podcast. What's the clip you've
- 55:43Speaker 1: got for us today there, Pugs? There was a lot of...
- 55:46Speaker 1: ADHD chat from Recollection.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Particularly the possibility that some of the folks around here
- 55:51Speaker 4: might be undiagnosed.
- 55:52Speaker 5: So what we've found is that there's something wrong with pugs.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:57Speaker 5: Because three out of four backbones are.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Off their f * * * ing heads.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm too straight edge, fellas. I've got
- 56:05Speaker 3: to loosen up a little bit, get some.
- 56:07Speaker 5: Yeah, good stuff.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Good stuff, man. Mogi, your plans for the weekend?
- 56:16Speaker 5: I'm going to Waiheke Island on Sunday.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Yeah, boy. Funnily enough. How good.
- 56:19Speaker 5: Going for a little lunch at my favourite restaurant over there,
- 56:22Speaker 5: so that'll be good. Gonna go for a swim, ocean swim.
- 56:26Speaker 6: Yeah, nice.
- 56:27Speaker 5: You gotta get that in, because it's daylight savings, you see.
- 56:29Speaker 6: Is it?
- 56:30Speaker 3: This weekend.
- 56:30Speaker 5: Daylight savings.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Of course.
- 56:32Speaker 5: So daylight savings, fellas. You've got to get your first
- 56:34Speaker 5: ocean swim in.
- 56:35Speaker 1: That's a rule. Yes, that's a rule.
- 56:36Speaker 4: I can't wait to walk home in the sun, man.
- 56:38Speaker 6: How good.
- 56:39Speaker 1: It's going to be real good. Real good. I was
- 56:42Speaker 1: down at the wharf there today on my normal little
- 56:44Speaker 1: walk there, watching the ferry go off to Waiheke.
- 56:47Speaker 3: The ferry?
- 56:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was a little bit jealous, actually. I
- 56:51Speaker 1: thought to myself, how good would that be? It was
- 56:52Speaker 1: a beautiful sunny morning, and off they tootled, and I
- 56:55Speaker 1: was like, ah. Wish I was going to Waiheke. Yeah,
- 56:58Speaker 1: haven't been for bloody ages. What are you up to, Pugs?
- 57:02Speaker 4: Tomorrow I'm going to do some hot pilates. A friend's
- 57:05Speaker 4: running a hot pilates class. I've got to get into pilates. Mate,
- 57:09Speaker 4: it is bloody good.
- 57:10Speaker 3: It is bloody good.
- 57:11Speaker 4: And then I'll catch up with a couple of mates.
- 57:12Speaker 4: Got a friend's birthday in the evening. And then Sunday
- 57:15Speaker 4: there's some, like, greyhound event, dog event that I'd like
- 57:19Speaker 4: to go to.
- 57:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 57:20Speaker 1: It's worth a hunt.
- 57:21Speaker 3: What about you, Jase, man?
- 57:24Speaker 1: Well, tomorrow I've got a mate and his partner coming
- 57:26Speaker 1: over for coffee. And then we'll just cruise for the
- 57:30Speaker 1: rest of the day. I've got to learn a few lines, fellas. Oh, yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Which I'm not happy about. What I might try and
- 57:36Speaker 1: do genuinely is have a bit of a fish over
- 57:39Speaker 1: the weekend. Right. Get back into my fishing.
- 57:40Speaker 5: Okay.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Lots of areas just down there by Mission Bay, et cetera,
- 57:43Speaker 1: et cetera.
- 57:44Speaker 3: All right.
- 57:44Speaker 1: So that'll be really good.
- 57:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 57:47Speaker 1: And, you know, as always, I imagine. All right. I'll
- 57:51Speaker 1: see you later. Bye. See you.
- 57:53Speaker 6: Bye.
