- 0:00Speaker 1: WKBN.com.
- 0:02Speaker 2: And we're back at it. News Radio 570 WKBN.
- 0:04Speaker 3: And Ron Ferb, 6.05 with you right up until 6.30 tonight.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Then after the headlines, the Guardians pregame here on News
- 0:14Speaker 3: Radio 570 WKBN.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Welcome.
- 0:16Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hey, Ron.
- 0:18Speaker 5: J.J.
- 0:19Speaker 2: The liberal.
- 0:20Speaker 6: Which name is right. I'm as guilty as anybody that
- 0:23Speaker 6: kind of drags on our conversations, and I don't give
- 0:25Speaker 6: anybody an opportunity to..
- 0:27Speaker 2: That's nonsense. I mean, that's absolute nonsense. I wouldn't even
- 0:31Speaker 2: address it.
- 0:32Speaker 6: It's okay. I mean, you give me an opportunity almost
- 0:35Speaker 6: every day, and people are sitting online and waiting, and
- 0:38Speaker 6: I can understand their frustration. And I've been online right
- 0:41Speaker 6: now for... You know, I missed you when you came on.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Thank God you just put me on hold a little
- 0:47Speaker 6: bit earlier, and I walked away from the phone for
- 0:49Speaker 6: a moment. But, no, it's okay. I mean, it really is.
- 0:53Speaker 6: You know, sometimes I can call and not bring anything
- 0:57Speaker 6: to the conversation, but there's times that I think I do.
- 0:59Speaker 6: But they are right. There's some people that do want
- 1:02Speaker 6: to make points and have definitely concerns and questions. And,
- 1:06Speaker 6: you know, when there's individuals like me or some other
- 1:09Speaker 6: people that I can kind of drag things on. That's
- 1:12Speaker 6: why I don't really apologize. I'm not apologizing. I'm just
- 1:15Speaker 6: going to be very more aware of my time constraints.
- 1:20Speaker 6: But I always appreciate you giving me, you know, that time.
- 1:24Speaker 6: You know, it's always been good to me. And how
- 1:27Speaker 6: are you doing today, my friend?
- 1:29Speaker 3: I am doing well. Well, you make a contribution to
- 1:32Speaker 3: the broadcast. See, people don't understand that kind of stuff.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It's like..
- 1:38Speaker 3: JJ has, listen, I'll be the first one to say
- 1:42Speaker 3: JJ calls it like he sees it. Sometimes he agrees
- 1:45Speaker 3: with the liberal philosophy and sometimes he disagrees with it.
- 1:49Speaker 3: So I don't have a, at least he's honest with
- 1:54Speaker 3: himself and everybody else.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I mean.
- 1:57Speaker 3: There's no rule in the world that says you have
- 2:00Speaker 3: to think like everybody else.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's insane.
- 2:02Speaker 6: No, I don't. I don't even think like the Democrats.
- 2:05Speaker 6: I'm actually a black sheep of the Democrats, to be
- 2:08Speaker 6: honest with you. Some of them don't even even... Emmanuel
- 2:11Speaker 6: was called recently and has a disagreement with me almost
- 2:13Speaker 6: every time he's called in. So in a way, that is...
- 2:17Speaker 6: I'm not trying to rock the boat. I'm not trying
- 2:19Speaker 6: to upset anybody, but I don't need anybody who is even...
- 2:26Speaker 6: meaning my way to agree with you. There's something wrong there.
- 2:30Speaker 6: I actually looked at some of the broadcasts last night.
- 2:33Speaker 6: I'm going on Sundays to start selling my artwork at
- 2:37Speaker 6: Flea Market, and I was getting things prepared to last night,
- 2:40Speaker 6: and I was just listening to some of the..
- 2:42Speaker 2: Are you serious? Now, what Flea Market are you going
- 2:44Speaker 2: to be at?
- 2:46Speaker 6: Four Seasons. Right outside Youngstown. What's her name was talking about?
- 2:51Speaker 6: I think it was Boss Lady.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Are you going to be there the same time she'll
- 2:54Speaker 2: be there?
- 2:56Speaker 6: I have to be there by 6 o'clock in the
- 2:59Speaker 6: morning to set up for opening at 8. And I
- 3:02Speaker 6: got a tent and everything. I'm just going to start
- 3:04Speaker 6: to see if my artwork shows a little bit. I'm
- 3:06Speaker 6: going to try to push it toward younger people because
- 3:08Speaker 6: it's kind of a lot of... Stuff that has fluorescent
- 3:15Speaker 6: stuff that they might want to hang in their rooms.
- 3:17Speaker 6: A lot of space type of spray paint work. And
- 3:20Speaker 6: just trying to see if I can make some people happy.
- 3:21Speaker 6: And it'll make me happy kind of. And now I'm
- 3:24Speaker 6: only going to be selling most of my stuff under $ 10.
- 3:26Speaker 6: And I just want to see if I can make
- 3:30Speaker 6: a little couple extra dollars since times are tough right
- 3:32Speaker 6: now to help my family out. And I'm just going
- 3:34Speaker 6: to see. And I'm going to go over and say
- 3:36Speaker 6: hi to her and introduce myself to her. But it...
- 3:40Speaker 6: If anybody comes by, don't throw anything at me. But nonetheless,
- 3:47Speaker 6: I was listening to a conversation we had on April 17th,
- 3:51Speaker 6: and I was really mean. I was talking about how
- 3:55Speaker 6: people think that I don't like... I'm not an American,
- 3:58Speaker 6: and I was really just... I'm listening to myself sometimes.
- 4:01Speaker 6: I'm embarrassed. And I just said, you know, why did
- 4:04Speaker 6: I act like that? And I hung up on you.
- 4:06Speaker 6: And I was also hearing about... You know, those emails
- 4:09Speaker 6: that I sent you about a year and a half ago,
- 4:11Speaker 6: I want to apologize again for that because that wasn't me.
- 4:15Speaker 6: And I really treated you like crap and saying about
- 4:18Speaker 6: how you haven't seen the bed. You know, I just
- 4:20Speaker 6: was angry. And I'm sorry for that.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You deserve that.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Listen, people have a right to lose their– to have
- 4:30Speaker 3: passion and to lose their cool once in a while.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You can't get all bent up and worked out of it.
- 4:35Speaker 6: You know, my brother told me that. He said, you're
- 4:36Speaker 6: pushing people away. I think recently I've been better. And
- 4:40Speaker 6: I think people have been receptive, a little bit more receptive.
- 4:43Speaker 6: But I'm not going to please everybody. And they're going
- 4:46Speaker 6: to have their opinion about me no matter what. And
- 4:48Speaker 6: that's okay. And I'm going to have my– My small prejudices, too.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Well, you're entitled to it. Listen, it's your opinion. You're
- 4:56Speaker 2: entitled to it.
- 4:58Speaker 3: But as I go back, make sure when you're over
- 5:01Speaker 3: at the thing, you go see the boss lady. Make
- 5:04Speaker 3: sure you go over and say hello to her.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I will.
- 5:06Speaker 6: She deserves it. Not that it matters, but I just
- 5:08Speaker 6: would like to introduce myself to her because I've listened
- 5:11Speaker 6: to her and it's... And, you know, it would be
- 5:14Speaker 6: nice to meet people that think differently from me. And
- 5:19Speaker 6: it's a good way to bring both sides together. I
- 5:22Speaker 6: try to do that. And if I can, then, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 6: maybe I can have some input. But I just wanted
- 5:27Speaker 6: to give you a call and let you know that
- 5:28Speaker 6: I'll be more aware of it. And I thank you
- 5:31Speaker 6: again for everything you do. Bye-bye. My friend, you're a
- 5:36Speaker 6: better person. Thank you.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate that. There you go. You're on air.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Ronnie, baby.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Ronnie, baby.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You got him. You got him.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You got him.
- 5:46Speaker 7: Hey, I don't know. I just want to make mention
- 5:52Speaker 7: of one thing that I've heard so many times over
- 5:54Speaker 7: the last three power switches in Congress and the Senate.
- 6:02Speaker 7: And every time I hear Chuck Schumer stand up and
- 6:04Speaker 7: say that, you know, we have to shore up Social
- 6:08Speaker 7: Security because people are living longer, what I really hear
- 6:11Speaker 7: him saying is, people are just living too damn long.
- 6:16Speaker 7: That's what I hear them saying. And for that order,
- 6:21Speaker 7: I'm going to offer up my utmost respect and my
- 6:26Speaker 7: highest praise. My mother, who just passed at the age
- 6:31Speaker 7: of 93, and she was sticking it to Uncle Sam
- 6:35Speaker 7: for the last 30 years. And I say, God bless her.
- 6:41Speaker 2: She was sticking it to Uncle Sam? How was she
- 6:43Speaker 2: doing that?
- 6:44Speaker 7: Social Security, man. She was one of those people living
- 6:48Speaker 7: too damn long.
- 6:49Speaker 8: You know what?
- 6:51Speaker 3: Listen, there's plenty of people that pay into it that
- 6:55Speaker 3: never make it to the age to where they can
- 6:57Speaker 3: collect it. I mean, when they tell you about all
- 7:01Speaker 3: of this kind of stuff... As I say, God laughs
- 7:05Speaker 3: at people who make plans because tomorrow isn't promised to anybody.
- 7:11Speaker 3: And there's people that never collect Social Security. There's people
- 7:15Speaker 3: that collect it and die a year or two or
- 7:18Speaker 3: three later. And so there's people that are lucky enough
- 7:21Speaker 3: to collect it for 20 or 30 years as well.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And so I'm happy for your mother. And it probably
- 7:29Speaker 3: wasn't a whole bunch of money.
- 7:31Speaker 6: I mean..
- 7:32Speaker 3: What most people collect on Social Security monthly isn't very
- 7:35Speaker 3: much money. It just isn't. Do you remember what your.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Mother got a month?
- 7:40Speaker 7: Yeah, she was getting a partial benefit from my father
- 7:44Speaker 7: who passed about five years ago. And going on five
- 7:51Speaker 7: and a half. Between the two of them, I think
- 7:55Speaker 7: they were getting less than $ 3, 000 a month.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Right, and so when he..
- 8:00Speaker 7: Yeah, because they didn't make much money toward the end.
- 8:03Speaker 7: My dad's maxes were all back when he was hanging siding.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Right, but if you back up when he passed, then
- 8:10Speaker 3: how much did your mother get a month?
- 8:13Speaker 7: Toward the end, she was probably only getting about $ 2, 300.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Right. That's not... I mean, it's not..
- 8:19Speaker 7: That's not a lot.
- 8:20Speaker 2: That's not..
- 8:21Speaker 7: That's rent, groceries, and a car payment and a hairdo.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Right, I mean, you're not going to live grand... On
- 8:30Speaker 3: Social Security. I mean, it's just not a lot of money.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Let's just put it that way.
- 8:41Speaker 3: So if she collected $ 2, 000 or $ 2, 500 for however long
- 8:45Speaker 3: she did a month, well, God bless her for doing it.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you something. I don't regret a
- 8:52Speaker 3: single dime I ever paid into Social Security during my
- 8:55Speaker 3: working life. And I heard the same thing when I
- 8:58Speaker 3: was a young man. Oh, it's not going to be
- 8:59Speaker 3: there when you get to be an old guy. Well,
- 9:02Speaker 3: it's here, and I became an old guy. And Social
- 9:05Speaker 3: Security will be around when my son becomes an old
- 9:10Speaker 3: person as well. It will still be there.
- 9:12Speaker 7: Yeah, they're never going to let go of that money.
- 9:14Speaker 7: And if they ever do away with Social Security, they'll
- 9:17Speaker 7: just call it something else, and they'll keep collecting the tax.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:21Speaker 7: They're never going to let go of that money. Now
- 9:24Speaker 7: that they can touch it, they'll never let it go.
- 9:32Speaker 6: All right.
- 9:33Speaker 3: So it's got to keep on going. Listen, you get
- 9:41Speaker 3: me on a topic that I'm just passionate about because
- 9:44Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you what really just frustrates the
- 9:46Speaker 3: living hell out of me. We give billions of dollars
- 9:48Speaker 3: to all of these other countries, billions of dollars to Egypt,
- 9:52Speaker 3: billions of dollars to Israel, billions of dollars to all
- 9:55Speaker 3: these countries and when I hear people talk about social
- 9:59Speaker 3: the economics of social security and medicare are not good
- 10:02Speaker 3: and first and foremost let's stop all the fraud in
- 10:05Speaker 3: medicaid and medicare you get you got to stop that
- 10:08Speaker 3: with with that being said once once that stops once
- 10:13Speaker 3: that stopped uh let's Put some money into it. There
- 10:19Speaker 3: isn't a law against putting some of our tax dollars
- 10:22Speaker 3: into it to bolster the system. If you get Social Security,
- 10:26Speaker 3: you worked and you paid into it. So it's an
- 10:30Speaker 3: earned benefit.
- 10:32Speaker 8: And..
- 10:34Speaker 3: I want it to stay healthy. I'm sick and tired
- 10:37Speaker 3: of giving all this money to, I don't care if
- 10:39Speaker 3: it's Ukraine or what this war is costing us in Iran.
- 10:44Speaker 3: When are we going to take care of our people?
- 10:46Speaker 3: And they say, what, you got 10 years on Medicare
- 10:49Speaker 3: and 10 years on Social Security? Well, I'm the first
- 10:53Speaker 3: guy saying, I'm against raising the age because the full
- 10:57Speaker 3: retirement age is now 67. So I'm against changing the
- 11:02Speaker 3: retirement age, making it older, because the only goal in
- 11:04Speaker 3: that is to say, oh, let's make the full retirement
- 11:06Speaker 3: age 70. The only goal in that is hoping that
- 11:09Speaker 3: you die before you ever get a chance to collect it.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I am totally opposed to changing the retirement.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Age at all.
- 11:16Speaker 7: They think it's their money.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's old enough at 67. And not everybody is
- 11:24Speaker 3: living longer. So I'm tired of the politicians trying to
- 11:28Speaker 3: do something like that. So I'm against changing the age
- 11:31Speaker 3: of it. And I understand, obviously, if you retire at 62, 63,
- 11:35Speaker 3: or 64, if you retire earlier, you get substantially less
- 11:39Speaker 3: than at your full retirement age. So, I mean, I'm
- 11:42Speaker 3: not opposed to that at all. I'm not opposed to
- 11:46Speaker 3: Medicare when you get 65 and going on Medicare. It's
- 11:49Speaker 3: a great insurance program. And as far as the financial
- 11:52Speaker 3: problems go, I say let's support... the program by giving
- 11:57Speaker 3: additional dollars, if we have to, through all the money
- 12:01Speaker 3: that we give away. And I don't believe that the politicians...
- 12:06Speaker 3: I just think the politicians are such lowlifes that if
- 12:09Speaker 3: they do that, they'll say, well, we're going to do that,
- 12:11Speaker 3: but we're going to change the retirement age to 70. Meanwhile,
- 12:15Speaker 3: their retirement age isn't 70, and they can retire with
- 12:20Speaker 3: their government program much sooner than that.
- 12:23Speaker 5: So..
- 12:24Speaker 3: I'm passionate about Social Security, and I think you are, too.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I mean, as I said, I'm not opposed to any
- 12:30Speaker 3: money I've ever paid in Social Security. The vast majority
- 12:33Speaker 3: of money I paid in went out to current retirees.
- 12:37Speaker 2: You follow me?
- 12:38Speaker 3: So what I paid in went out to my mother
- 12:40Speaker 3: and your mother and all of that kind of stuff.
- 12:43Speaker 3: There's very little additional that would go into the fund
- 12:47Speaker 3: for the baby boomer bump. Social Security is not supposed
- 12:50Speaker 3: to have a surplus fund. what I pay in goes
- 12:53Speaker 3: out to current retirees. Now they have that surplus to
- 12:58Speaker 3: get the baby boomers through it. Well, I want to
- 13:01Speaker 3: see it continue on. I want my children to be
- 13:04Speaker 3: able to retire at 62 or 67 if they choose to.
- 13:10Speaker 3: And this idea that you can work till you're 70, well,
- 13:12Speaker 3: that depends what you do. Tell that to a roofer
- 13:15Speaker 3: that he can work till he's 70. Tell that to
- 13:18Speaker 3: a carpenter.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I mean, when you do.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Some of these jobs, that are very physical jobs, can
- 13:25Speaker 3: you make it to 70? Tell that to a cop
- 13:27Speaker 3: who's got to chase some young kid down the street
- 13:29Speaker 3: or whatever. Oh, you can do that till you're 70.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Or a fireman.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Or any type. You know what.
- 13:34Speaker 7: Groupers do for the last five years till retirement?
- 13:37Speaker 5: What?
- 13:38Speaker 7: They drive the tool truck.
- 13:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, if you've got a desk job or
- 13:45Speaker 3: a sit-down job, it's much different than somebody that does
- 13:52Speaker 3: Something physical on a day-to-day basis. Because your body does
- 13:56Speaker 3: deteriorate and change as you grow older.
- 13:58Speaker 6: It sure does.
- 14:00Speaker 7: And I say, God bless you, Ron. God bless your family.
- 14:02Speaker 7: And I pray that you live long enough to stick
- 14:07Speaker 7: it to Uncle Sam for 50 years.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I continue to pray that. I would like to see
- 14:14Speaker 2: that happen soon.
- 14:15Speaker 7: I would love to hear a cowbell on now.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Wait a minute. It's in the back of the studio.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I'm not even going to reach back.
- 14:23Speaker 7: All you got to do is lift your right leg, right?
- 14:26Speaker 2: Well, that's no cowbell there, buddy. All right. Thanks for
- 14:33Speaker 2: your call. I appreciate it.
- 14:34Speaker 3: When people talk about Social Security, I mean, that's really...
- 14:41Speaker 3: Earned benefits never disturb me. Listen, I even understand people
- 14:46Speaker 3: fall on hard times. I'm not opposed to some relief programs.
- 14:49Speaker 3: They just shouldn't be forever. I mean, I understand, for example,
- 14:56Speaker 3: when we talk about Medicaid, Medicare's for the elderly, Medicaid's,
- 15:00Speaker 3: I understand that that's got to be there because a
- 15:02Speaker 3: lot of times if somebody gets sick and they go
- 15:05Speaker 3: to a nursing home, that when time is done, you know,
- 15:09Speaker 3: when they're done, With all their income and money, what
- 15:15Speaker 3: do you do? Well, they go on Medicaid. I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 3: these damn nursing homes are so expensive. And I'm trying
- 15:21Speaker 3: to figure that out, too. They don't pay the help
- 15:23Speaker 3: at these nursing homes nearly enough money. I mean, the
- 15:27Speaker 3: people that work at these nursing homes, it's a difficult environment.
- 15:30Speaker 3: If you're in skilled nursing or any of these nursing places,
- 15:34Speaker 3: you can get attached to some of these people and
- 15:36Speaker 3: then they die. It's they don't have enough staff for
- 15:40Speaker 3: the number of patients that they have and it's a
- 15:43Speaker 3: very difficult job Emotionally and physically and they just don't
- 15:46Speaker 3: pay him enough money Yet what the patient has to
- 15:50Speaker 3: pay or the family has to pay the person that's
- 15:52Speaker 3: in the nursing home is tremendous the amount of money
- 15:55Speaker 3: is just phenomenal what they have to pay and Who's
- 16:01Speaker 3: making all the money.
- 16:03Speaker 2: The owners.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I'd like to see the staff make more that actually
- 16:08Speaker 3: does the care for these people. And any one of us,
- 16:13Speaker 3: like I say, everybody is one major illness away from bankruptcy, unfortunately,
- 16:20Speaker 3: in many cases. So if you go and you take
- 16:23Speaker 3: a look at somebody that has a major health issue
- 16:27Speaker 3: and they end up in a skilled nursing care at
- 16:31Speaker 3: $ 10, 000 a month, well, it depletes their savings and their
- 16:35Speaker 3: Assets very quickly. Well, that's when they are busted and
- 16:40Speaker 3: they go on Medicaid to provide the coverage that they need.
- 16:44Speaker 3: If we didn't have it, what else would we do?
- 16:47Speaker 3: I'll be right back.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Youngstown's News, Weather and Talk Station, 570 WKBN.
- 16:56Speaker 3: News Radio 570 WKBN and Ron Ferb with you till
- 16:59Speaker 3: just a few more minutes. Till 630 on News Radio
- 17:03Speaker 3: 570 WKBN. I'm just kind of, that guy gets me
- 17:08Speaker 3: on that kind of stuff and just talking about it.
- 17:11Speaker 3: And I'm the first guy to say to all of you,
- 17:14Speaker 3: these people that get on some of these programs that
- 17:17Speaker 3: are able-bodied, healthy people of work age that are milking
- 17:20Speaker 3: the system need a good kick in the ass to
- 17:21Speaker 3: get off their lazy ass and realize how lucky they
- 17:24Speaker 3: are to be in this country and the opportunities that
- 17:27Speaker 3: are in front of them and to make something out
- 17:30Speaker 3: of their life. So those people I want to give
- 17:32Speaker 3: a kick in the arse to. And I get tired
- 17:37Speaker 3: of them trying to exploit these programs. As I've said
- 17:39Speaker 3: to you a gazillion times, don't make your problems my problems.
- 17:43Speaker 3: If you make bad decisions, it doesn't mean the taxpayers
- 17:46Speaker 3: should be stuck with it, particularly if you're of work age.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Sometimes you're going to have to work two or three
- 17:50Speaker 3: jobs to take responsibility for it. That's just the way
- 17:54Speaker 3: the system is set up. But if you get sick,
- 17:59Speaker 3: as we see people do, or you run out of
- 18:01Speaker 3: money and you're in a nursing home, that's what some
- 18:03Speaker 3: of these programs are for, to be able to What
- 18:05Speaker 3: are you supposed to do with the person at that time?
- 18:07Speaker 3: They don't have anything. And that's what Medicaid is really for,
- 18:10Speaker 3: to assist people in these nursing homes when they're out
- 18:14Speaker 3: of money. And Medicare does that for a very short
- 18:19Speaker 3: period of time. But what they charge a month, it
- 18:25Speaker 3: just can deplete your assets, 10 grand a month and
- 18:27Speaker 3: this kind of stuff very quickly. I don't know who
- 18:29Speaker 3: could afford it at all. It's one of the biggest
- 18:31Speaker 3: fears people have as they grow older is ending up
- 18:34Speaker 3: in one of those facilities because of how much it
- 18:36Speaker 3: can cost the family. And it just sucks a lifetime
- 18:42Speaker 3: of assets away in a very short period of time.
- 18:47Speaker 3: And I mean a lifetime worth of assets. It's always
- 18:51Speaker 3: good to do some estate planning, I'm telling you, as
- 18:53Speaker 3: you get older. So hopefully you don't become a victim
- 18:57Speaker 3: of that smoke. All right, enough said about that for now.
- 19:00Speaker 3: We regroup tomorrow. You're back tomorrow at 3 o'clock, NewsRadio
- 19:04Speaker 3: 570 WKBN. That'll be tomorrow afternoon from starting at 3 o'clock.
- 19:09Speaker 3: We'll solve the world's problems.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Stay tuned.
- 19:11Speaker 3: The Guardians are coming up next with the pregame show
- 19:15Speaker 3: on NewsRadio 570 WKBN. Then first, well, that'll be right
- 19:18Speaker 3: after the headlines. First pitch will be a little bit
- 19:21Speaker 3: after 7 o'clock then tonight. uh, on the radio, Tom
- 19:25Speaker 3: Hamilton and Rosie have the call as always. It's just
- 19:28Speaker 3: a part. It's enjoyable listening. All right. So if you
- 19:31Speaker 3: haven't tuned in and enjoyed the, uh, guardians, you will,
- 19:35Speaker 3: it's just a part of summertime here in our neck
- 19:38Speaker 3: of the woods. And we're always happy to be carry
- 19:40Speaker 3: the guardians games. That's for sure.
- 19:42Speaker 2: And, uh, I don't know.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Sometimes, sometimes they run hot and they run cold from
- 19:47Speaker 3: time to time. Let's just put it that way. Uh,
- 19:50Speaker 3: it seems like things have been going relatively decent lately
- 19:54Speaker 3: for the most part so better year than uh than
- 19:58Speaker 3: I think what a lot of people were expecting. So
- 20:01Speaker 3: let's keep the momentum going.
- 20:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Appreciate you tuning in. I thank you for listening and
- 20:05Speaker 3: I look forward to speaking to you tomorrow. Ron verb
- 20:07Speaker 3: from the kingdom of Mahoning on news radio, five 70

- 21:15Speaker 9: tonight from Yankee Stadium in New York. It's the Guardians
- 21:18Speaker 9: and New York Yankees in Game 2 of this three-game series.
- 21:23Speaker 9: Jim Rosenhouse along with you on another great baseball night
- 21:26Speaker 9: in the Big Apple as we'll have clear skies, warm temperatures,
- 21:30Speaker 9: and the Guardians trying to make it two in a
- 21:31Speaker 9: row after a 9-4 win last night. Cleveland coming in
- 21:35Speaker 9: two games up on the second-place White Sox in the
- 21:38Speaker 9: American League Central Division. The Yankees just a half game
- 21:42Speaker 9: back of front-running Tampa Bay in the AL East. What
- 21:46Speaker 9: a pitching matchup we have tonight. Two of the best
- 21:49Speaker 9: in baseball. Garrett Cole back from Tommy John surgery against
- 21:53Speaker 9: Gavin Williams for the Guardians.
- 21:55Speaker 11: Stay tuned. More to come after this. The pitch, swung
- 22:04Speaker 11: on a high chopper to third over the head of Rosario.
- 22:07Speaker 11: Down the left field line, it'll roll into the corner.
- 22:10Speaker 11: Ramirez with his third double. Big turn, but he'll hold
- 22:14Speaker 11: right there. Scoring is Rocchio, and it's a 6-4 Cleveland lead.
- 22:20Speaker 9: Welcome back to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. Guardians and
- 22:24Speaker 9: Yankees getting ready for Game 2 of the series here
- 22:27Speaker 9: in New York. a place where Jose Ramirez has always
- 22:31Speaker 9: had good success. Last night, no different. 35 games now
- 22:36Speaker 9: in this ballpark where he hit his first home run,
- 22:38Speaker 9: by the way, in his major league career.
- 22:41Speaker 2: He's hitting.
- 22:41Speaker 9: 402 with nine homers and 31 runs batted in.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Stay with us. We'll have more to come after this.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Here's the Bet365 Minute, where winning is everything, with Scott Davidson.
- 22:54Speaker 12: Let's check out the numbers game two from New York tonight.
- 22:57Speaker 12: The Yankees, $ 1. 50 favorite over the guards. Total is 7.5.
- 23:01Speaker 12: And let's get a play of the day out west
- 23:03Speaker 12: that I like a lot tonight. I'm going to isolate
- 23:05Speaker 12: a first five innings play because I see a large
- 23:08Speaker 12: edge in the pitching matchup between the Angels and the Rockies.
- 23:11Speaker 12: Now Michael Lorenzen goes for Colorado, and over his last
- 23:14Speaker 12: six starts, he's been rocked. 27 runs in just 28
- 23:17Speaker 12: innings the angels counter with walbert ureña in eight starts
- 23:21Speaker 12: he's held opponents to two runs or fewer in seven
- 23:24Speaker 12: of them ureña also has the element of unfamiliarity working
- 23:27Speaker 12: for him colorado hasn't faced him yet i like the
- 23:30Speaker 12: angels first five innings my play of the day now
- 23:33Speaker 12: you can join me when you download the bet 365
- 23:35Speaker 12: app you bet ten dollars you get 365 dollars in
- 23:38Speaker 12: bonus bets win or lose terms and conditions apply And
- 23:42Speaker 12: that's the Bet365 Minute.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I'm Scott Davidson.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Gambling problem?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Call 1-800-MY-RESET. 21 plus only.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Must be physically located in Ohio.
- 23:51Speaker 9: Welcome back to Guardian Swarm. I'm Matt Festad joining us.
- 23:53Speaker 9: Guardian's reliever following a night where the Guardian's bullpen did
- 23:58Speaker 9: it again. One of those nights where it's five relievers,
- 24:02Speaker 9: one inning apiece. And Matt, you're the representative since you
- 24:05Speaker 9: finished the thing up and you're the local guy for
- 24:07Speaker 9: a game here. But those nights, how enjoyable are they
- 24:11Speaker 9: when almost everybody in the pen has a chance to contribute.
- 24:14Speaker 13: Well, when we do come out there and have success,
- 24:17Speaker 13: it's a lot of fun because when we all get
- 24:19Speaker 13: to come back inside the clubhouse, we're all just patting
- 24:21Speaker 13: each other on the back. But it's a great feeling to,
- 24:24Speaker 13: you know, all just pass the torch to each other
- 24:26Speaker 13: and have a successful night.
- 24:27Speaker 9: And you've been here a bunch of times in your
- 24:29Speaker 9: major league career, but what is it about here based
- 24:32Speaker 9: on you growing up over in Staten Island that makes
- 24:34Speaker 9: this a fun road swing and a fun group of
- 24:37Speaker 9: games to play?
- 24:38Speaker 13: I used to have a lot of family and friends
- 24:39Speaker 13: in town watching or supporting at the stadium. And then
- 24:43Speaker 13: like myself, I've just taken a lot of mental reps
- 24:45Speaker 13: out on that mound growing up and going to Yankee games.
- 24:47Speaker 13: So for me, you know, it's always special coming back here.
- 24:51Speaker 4: As a kid, how often did you get over here?
- 24:53Speaker 13: As often as you can, but baseball games are, you know.
- 24:56Speaker 4: You can't really make it out of your house.
- 24:58Speaker 13: Staten Island's not too close, but, you know, probably two
- 25:00Speaker 13: or three times a year when I was growing up.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That's enough.
- 25:03Speaker 9: Matt Festa joining us to finish things up in the
- 25:06Speaker 9: series opener Tuesday night. And you don't get a chance
- 25:08Speaker 9: to do that too often, even though it's not a
- 25:10Speaker 9: safe situation.
- 25:12Speaker 4: How much fun is it to be the last guy
- 25:13Speaker 4: out there and get to shake hands?
- 25:15Speaker 2: It's fun.
- 25:16Speaker 13: It's fun to be out there when everyone's just celebrating
- 25:18Speaker 13: a nice win. But it's good to, you know, take
- 25:22Speaker 13: some of the, you know, pressure off of Cade, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 13: don't have to use them in a five run lead.
- 25:27Speaker 2: That's fantastic.
- 25:28Speaker 13: And it keeps them fresh for some really close situations
- 25:31Speaker 13: where we might need them down the road.
- 25:33Speaker 4: So often this year, you've come in mid-inning runners on base,
- 25:36Speaker 4: a big mess to get out of.
- 25:38Speaker 2: And you've had good success in that.
- 25:39Speaker 4: What's been the key for you to really excel in
- 25:42Speaker 4: that role?
- 25:44Speaker 13: Not really think about it too much. Just focus on
- 25:46Speaker 13: the task at hand, whoever in the box is. Just
- 25:49Speaker 13: lock in on my catcher and deliver some strikes and
- 25:52Speaker 13: challenge some hitters and you know, you hope things are
- 25:54Speaker 13: going to work out for you.
- 25:54Speaker 2: That's all you can kind of control.
- 25:56Speaker 4: So I kind of, I just don't really think about
- 25:58Speaker 4: it too much.
- 25:59Speaker 9: And when you look at how things have gone since
- 26:01Speaker 9: you've come over here, what's been some of the keys
- 26:05Speaker 9: for you to take your career a step forward in
- 26:07Speaker 9: terms of what they do for you here to get
- 26:09Speaker 9: you to be your best?
- 26:11Speaker 13: For me, it's just getting the opportunity to always go
- 26:13Speaker 13: back out there and either, you know, stack a couple
- 26:16Speaker 13: of good outings in a row or fix a mess
- 26:19Speaker 13: that happens, you know, and you don't always have a
- 26:21Speaker 13: great outing, but Relying on Caleb Longshore and Brad Goldberg
- 26:26Speaker 13: and of course Carl Willis in between outings just to
- 26:29Speaker 13: see what they're seeing to confirm what I'm feeling. Sometimes
- 26:34Speaker 13: just a conversation, sometimes a full sit down, but they're
- 26:37Speaker 13: so proactive in the things that they do to help
- 26:39Speaker 13: us get better each and every day.
- 26:41Speaker 9: And team-wise, good start to the season. What do you
- 26:44Speaker 9: like in here in terms of what you're seeing, both relievers, starters,
- 26:48Speaker 9: and position players?
- 26:49Speaker 2: Just We're just playing really relaxed.
- 26:52Speaker 13: We're playing like just a bunch of really close friends,
- 26:55Speaker 13: and it's fun coming to the ballpark every day and
- 26:58Speaker 13: seeing different faces and names kind of do a job
- 27:01Speaker 13: every day.
- 27:03Speaker 4: We're a family already, and it's only two months in.
- 27:05Speaker 4: We're excited. Matt, nice going. Thanks for coming by. Thanks.
- 27:09Speaker 4: That is Matt Festa, Guardians relief pitcher. Stay tuned. More
- 27:13Speaker 4: to come after this.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Progressive knows there's no one more important to your team
- 27:16Speaker 1: than your pet. They're like your top draft pick.
- 27:19Speaker 14: And it looks like Chuck has selected Pepper the Corgi.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Bold pick there, Debra. Yeah, Rich, Pepper has a high
- 27:24Speaker 2: ceiling for sure, but he does have a tendency to.
- 27:26Speaker 10: Bark at every tree.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he brings a lot to the table, but also
- 27:29Speaker 1: takes a lot off of it, especially when it's been
- 27:31Speaker 1: left near the edge.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Nothing left to do now, but suit him up for
- 27:34Speaker 2: the dog park.

- 28:15Speaker 15: Recently, our company's softball team lost the big game by
- 28:18Speaker 15: one run. Then Dale tried to console us with the quote,
- 28:21Speaker 15: winning isn't everything. Dale's a loser.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I play to win, like early payoff from Bet365.
- 28:27Speaker 15: If my team goes up big, I get paid out instantly,
- 28:31Speaker 15: even if they blow the lead later.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Sound familiar, Dale?

- 29:17Speaker 9: Welcome back to the Bet365 Guardian's warm-up show. Beautiful night
- 29:21Speaker 9: here in New York shaping up. Let's check in on
- 29:24Speaker 9: what's happening back home. Courtesy of WKYC, it's our pregame
- 29:28Speaker 9: winter sponsored by Shores and Islands, Ohio.
- 29:32Speaker 16: Under mainly clear skies, temperatures drop back into the low
- 29:35Speaker 16: and mid 50s for Thursday morning. Through the afternoon, we'll
- 29:37Speaker 16: top out in the low 80s and we get to
- 29:39Speaker 16: see lots of sunshine around northern Ohio. Partly cloudy for
- 29:43Speaker 16: Friday you're definitely going to start to feel the humidity
- 29:45Speaker 16: around here as temperatures make it into the upper 80s.
- 29:48Speaker 16: In the 3 News Weather Center I'm Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling.
- 29:52Speaker 9: And again, a great baseball night here in the Big Apple.
- 29:55Speaker 9: The Yankees and the Guardians meeting in Game 2 of
- 29:58Speaker 9: this three-game series. Tom Hamilton will talk about it with
- 30:01Speaker 9: manager Stephen Vogt next.
- 30:04Speaker 14: Hi again, everybody.
- 30:12Speaker 8: With Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt, this is Tom Hamilton.
- 30:15Speaker 5: Welcome.
- 30:15Speaker 8: It's the Manager Show brought to you by KeyBank. Any
- 30:19Speaker 8: win's a great win. You get a win in this
- 30:21Speaker 8: ballpark against that ball club. How good did that feel?
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels good. You know, you come on the road.
- 30:26Speaker 18: Obviously, Yankee Stadium's always a tough place to play. This
- 30:28Speaker 18: is a very good team, and so are we. And
- 30:31Speaker 18: it was really nice to get the first game of
- 30:34Speaker 18: the series because when you win the first game of
- 30:36Speaker 18: the series, now you've got two opportunities to take the series.
- 30:38Speaker 18: So great to see the guys really extend the lead
- 30:41Speaker 18: at the end. The bullpen was fantastic, so all around
- 30:44Speaker 18: a great win.
- 30:44Speaker 8: Well, how about the bullpen? I mean, five shutout innings
- 30:48Speaker 8: against that lineup. Granted, they didn't have Aaron Judge, but
- 30:51Speaker 8: they still have some thumpers.
- 30:53Speaker 18: Yeah, this is a really good lineup. I mean, obviously,
- 30:55Speaker 18: when Aaron Judge isn't playing, and like I'll continue to say,
- 30:57Speaker 18: hopefully he's back soon. We want to see the best
- 30:59Speaker 18: players in the league out on the field. But for
- 31:03Speaker 18: those guys to navigate five innings of shutout baseball, that's
- 31:06Speaker 18: not easy to do in any stretch of five innings
- 31:08Speaker 18: in this ballpark.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Let alone against their lineup.
- 31:11Speaker 18: So really, really good job by the bullpen.
- 31:15Speaker 8: Travis Bazzana gets that three-run double with two out. Obviously,
- 31:19Speaker 8: you didn't have to use Cade Smith. How big is
- 31:22Speaker 8: that in the first game of a road trip?
- 31:25Speaker 2: It's huge.
- 31:25Speaker 18: And the other side of that, too, is we had
- 31:28Speaker 18: Sean Armstrong coming in for the eighth. You're coming into
- 31:31Speaker 18: the eighth with a two-run lead. Now you make that
- 31:35Speaker 18: a five-run lead. Those are much less stressed pitches. So
- 31:38Speaker 18: now Sean Armstrong is going to be fresher today.
- 31:40Speaker 2: And I think we talk about it a lot.
- 31:42Speaker 18: If we can extend leads... maybe you still have to
- 31:44Speaker 18: use some leverage guys, but those aren't going to be
- 31:47Speaker 18: as high-pressured pitches, and they're not going to be as intense.
- 31:51Speaker 18: And so anytime you can keep a leverage guy off
- 31:54Speaker 18: of the field, it's great. And we didn't even have
- 31:55Speaker 18: to get Cade up in a two-run game going into
- 31:58Speaker 18: the eighth.
- 31:58Speaker 2: So really good job by the offense.
- 32:00Speaker 8: Doesn't seem like Travis is too phased by the situation.
- 32:04Speaker 19: No, he's not.
- 32:06Speaker 18: He even mentioned how much fun it was to play here,
- 32:09Speaker 18: and same with Chase. And it's rare to see two
- 32:12Speaker 18: rookies with you know two months of time or less
- 32:15Speaker 18: on their belt and you come to yankee stadium for
- 32:17Speaker 18: the first time and they're like this is really cool
- 32:19Speaker 18: i mean it.
- 32:20Speaker 8: Just shows their their maturity how about patrick bailey that's
- 32:23Speaker 8: a triple to get you going early in the game
- 32:25Speaker 8: against a guy that hasn't been giving up runs to
- 32:28Speaker 8: anybody yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 18: I really woke the dugout up and i mean um
- 32:31Speaker 18: the wherewithal you know us catchers are so fast that
- 32:34Speaker 18: you know we turn doubles into triples all the time
- 32:36Speaker 18: so But that's what's so huge and I love about
- 32:39Speaker 18: our guys is we're always pushing the envelope on the bases.
- 32:42Speaker 18: It would have been real easy to just kind of
- 32:43Speaker 18: coast into second base. But now you get to third
- 32:47Speaker 18: with one out. That creates an opportunity for a sack fly.
- 32:49Speaker 18: It creates an opportunity for an RBI ground out, whatever
- 32:51Speaker 18: it might be. So obviously a great piece of hitting
- 32:54Speaker 18: by Patty and great base running to get to third.
- 32:57Speaker 8: Look, we're not saying he's the next Johnny Bench. But
- 33:00Speaker 8: have you seen something that there's more in there offensively
- 33:04Speaker 8: than maybe what the numbers were when he came here?
- 33:06Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 33:07Speaker 18: We've seen him hit probably seven or eight balls really
- 33:10Speaker 18: hard since he's been here, and he really hadn't played
- 33:12Speaker 18: a ton. So he's starting to really get acclimated to
- 33:15Speaker 18: our pitching staff, which is obviously most important. We knew
- 33:18Speaker 18: that was going to happen quickly. He and Hedgie and
- 33:20Speaker 18: David have worked really hard together to get him up
- 33:22Speaker 18: to speed, along with our pitching coaches. But We're really
- 33:25Speaker 18: starting to see some growth offensively, and there's a really
- 33:28Speaker 18: good hitter in there. Like we said, we're not expecting
- 33:31Speaker 18: him to go out and have 1,000 OPS, but there's
- 33:34Speaker 18: a much better hitter in than what he's shown from
- 33:36Speaker 18: the beginning of the season until now.
- 33:37Speaker 8: You don't get many of these matchups in a season,
- 33:41Speaker 8: just the way rotations fluctuate with off days and whatnot.
- 33:46Speaker 8: Gavin Williams, Garrett Cole, that's worth the price of admission.
- 33:49Speaker 18: Yeah, if you like pitching, it should be a fun night.
- 33:52Speaker 18: we feel good about it whenever Gavin's taking the mound.
- 33:54Speaker 18: And Garrett Cole coming back from Tommy John, good to
- 33:57Speaker 18: see him back. Like I said, I love seeing the
- 33:59Speaker 18: best players in the world playing. And we've seen Garrett
- 34:02Speaker 18: Cole enough over the last few years. But we get
- 34:05Speaker 18: to see him one more time tonight, and hopefully we're
- 34:06Speaker 18: ready for him.
- 34:07Speaker 8: Yeah, but we saw Gavin Williams take his game to
- 34:09Speaker 8: another level against Christopher Sanchez in Philly. Do you expect
- 34:13Speaker 8: that again tonight? I do.
- 34:15Speaker 18: And I think, like I said, anytime Gavin takes the mound,
- 34:18Speaker 18: we feel good about it. And It's always fun playing
- 34:20Speaker 18: in this ballpark. You look at that uniform, the history.
- 34:24Speaker 18: If you love baseball, you know the history of the Yankees.
- 34:26Speaker 18: So it's shaping up to be a really fun night,
- 34:29Speaker 18: and we feel good about Gavin taking the ball.
- 34:31Speaker 8: That is Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt, Tom Hamilton, inviting you
- 34:34Speaker 8: to stay tuned for the Yankees and Guardians next on
- 34:38Speaker 8: the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 34:47Speaker 9: About 10 minutes away from tonight's first pitch here at
- 34:49Speaker 9: Yankee Stadium in New York. Welcome back to the Bet365
- 34:53Speaker 9: Guardians warm-up show. Time for the pitching matchup. It's right-hander
- 34:57Speaker 9: Gavin Williams for the Guardians. 8-3, an earned run average
- 35:02Speaker 9: of 3.07. After a dozen starts, the last three have
- 35:06Speaker 9: been wins, allowing just three runs in 21 innings of work.
- 35:11Speaker 9: He'll be opposed by Garrett Cole, who's back on the
- 35:13Speaker 9: mound for start number three. In his return from Tommy
- 35:17Speaker 9: John surgery that cost him all of the 2025 season,
- 35:21Speaker 9: in his prior two starts, he's won one and allowed
- 35:25Speaker 9: no runs in 12 and two-thirds innings. 11 starts in
- 35:29Speaker 9: his career against Cleveland. He's always been tough. 7-2 with
- 35:33Speaker 9: an earned run average of 2.87. That's your pitching matchup.
- 35:37Speaker 9: That'll do it for Guardians Warm-Up.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Stay tuned.
