- 0:00Speaker 1: Turn on the grill crack a.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Beer flip on the tv crank.
- 0:11Speaker 3: It up big red saturday is the return to glory
- 0:19Speaker 3: game week.
- 0:21Speaker 4: All right we got a uh pretty big game this
- 0:25Speaker 4: week here bowling green nebraska now just came this should
- 0:28Speaker 4: be an absolute ass kicking That's what I hope for.
- 0:32Speaker 4: If it's not, I think there's major problems. Bowling Green
- 0:34Speaker 4: last week lost Tarleton State. I think Nebraska should just
- 0:39Speaker 4: completely dominate this game, offensive line, defensive line. Don't let
- 0:42Speaker 4: Bowling Green get any more than 10 points. If they do,
- 0:45Speaker 4: we got problems. Saying this as I've not watched any
- 0:48Speaker 4: tape on Bowling Green. Eddie George, their coach, has said
- 0:53Speaker 4: that Nebraska needs to watch out for a stud player
- 0:55Speaker 4: or two they have.
- 0:56Speaker 3: You know what? Hey, George, we ain't worried at all.
- 0:58Speaker 4: We're going to absolutely run through the brick wall of
- 1:02Speaker 4: your team, I'll tell you that. Bowling Green, if you're listening,
- 1:04Speaker 4: you guys are going to get absolutely pounded. At least
- 1:10Speaker 4: Nebraska didn't post, actually this all-time video which Nebraska would
- 1:14Speaker 4: post this. Kansas posted a video, they play Missouri tonight,
- 1:19Speaker 4: comparing that Missouri had slaves and Kansas did.
- 1:23Speaker 3: That is awesome.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Start throwing games back to when the Civil War happened
- 1:27Speaker 4: and saying that this is why they play football games.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I ride with that I mean, if we're playing football
- 1:32Speaker 4: over the Civil War, that's amazing.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Shout out to you, Kansas. Video of the year right there.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And I hope Kansas wins now.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Another big thing is, this is for tailgates, it's not
- 1:49Speaker 4: going to be absolutely sweating your nuts off 24-7 out there.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Last week was absolutely horrible. I mean, it's great to
- 1:55Speaker 3: have football back, but we don't need to be playing
- 1:58Speaker 3: in freaking... It's a hair of desert out here. It
- 2:01Speaker 3: was hotter than hell. It's going to be.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I also love night games. That is second on my
- 2:08Speaker 4: rankings of times. Worst is 11. Best, 230. Second best,
- 2:15Speaker 4: night games. I'm going to be ripping and roaring starting
- 2:20Speaker 4: at 9.30 in the morning. So, by game time, I'm
- 2:23Speaker 4: going to be locked in, ready to go. Now, here's
- 2:29Speaker 4: another big thing is going to happen ohio state the
- 2:33Speaker 4: more i thought about it it's going to absolutely throttle
- 2:37Speaker 4: texas come saturday like it's gonna be same time as
- 2:39Speaker 4: nebraska if you guys want to watch two ass kickings
- 2:41Speaker 4: just throw them on the same time right there i
- 2:43Speaker 4: don't know what's gonna be worse ohio state's gonna kill
- 2:45Speaker 4: texas arch manning sucks steve sir keegan sucks he can't
- 2:49Speaker 4: win any big games and he's proven that many times
- 2:51Speaker 4: he should be gone i actually hope he stays because
- 2:52Speaker 4: that guy is horrible.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Arch manning everyone's like oh he got so much better
- 2:58Speaker 3: at the end of last year you know what He
- 3:02Speaker 3: lost to Florida. Florida is horrible. That's not your Tim
- 3:05Speaker 3: Tebow Florida right there.
- 3:06Speaker 4: They are absolutely terrible. So here you go. Your bets
- 3:11Speaker 4: of the week, take Ohio State money line, take Nebraska spread,
- 3:16Speaker 4: and take Oklahoma money line. Speaking of our team that sucks, Michigan.
- 3:21Speaker 4: The only way Oklahoma doesn't kill this game is if
- 3:24Speaker 4: they pull Bryce Underwood, which I hope to God they
- 3:26Speaker 4: keep him in all game.
- 3:26Speaker 3: That guy is horrible.
- 3:27Speaker 2: $ 10 million for that, you might as well just throw
- 3:30Speaker 2: $ 10 million in the air or wipe on your butt.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Like, it's $ 10 million waste right there. I don't know. Anyway,
- 3:39Speaker 3: Bowling Green, I think, will be the worst team to
- 3:41Speaker 3: rest place here. I think North Dakota could beat Bowling Green.
- 3:43Speaker 3: We will see.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I still think Ohio, out of those three, is by
- 3:49Speaker 4: far the best. So, these next two games should be easy.
- 3:53Speaker 4: I'm saying this again. Nebraska has proven many times they
- 3:55Speaker 4: could lose this game.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So you know what? Go Big Red.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Let's have a good weekend. Because football starts, by the way.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Minnesota Vikings over the Green Packers.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Take that bet, too. All right. Go Big Red. All right.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Week two. It's going to be a good game. Weather's
- 4:13Speaker 5: supposed to be beautiful. You know, our second round of
- 4:18Speaker 5: the Ohio series, I guess, against Bowling Green. Tailgate pod.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Austin here. I'm going to say this game's not going
- 4:28Speaker 5: to be close. I think we've got the kinks worked out. Again,
- 4:33Speaker 5: I was pretty down on last week, and I do
- 4:35Speaker 5: expect the season to reflect those opinions, but this ain't
- 4:39Speaker 5: that week.
- 4:40Speaker 3: This is the week.
- 4:41Speaker 5: We're going to be okay. I would be surprised if
- 4:46Speaker 5: they score two touchdowns. If they score two touchdowns. They
- 4:48Speaker 5: didn't even score two touchdowns last week against Bowling Green.
- 4:52Speaker 5: They scored two touchdowns last week against an FCS opponent.
- 4:55Speaker 5: I expect their offense to continue to struggle. If they
- 4:58Speaker 5: score basically three times, I'm going to be very disappointed
- 5:00Speaker 5: in our defense because that's kind of what we're looking at.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Excited to see Owen Chambliss play. Hoping to see some
- 5:07Speaker 5: special teams plays. Score prediction, we'll give them a couple
- 5:14Speaker 5: field goals. So we'll go six to.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Six Bowling Greens in Nebraska. We're going to put up, you.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Know, last week we scored 49. I expect us to
- 5:22Speaker 5: score more. Maybe let's go 55, I think. I do
- 5:28Speaker 5: expect our backup quarterback, whether that be TJ or Danny Kalen,
- 5:32Speaker 5: is going to get a couple reps here in the
- 5:34Speaker 5: second half for sure. I want to see Jamal Rule,
- 5:37Speaker 5: see if he can carry over the hot hand from
- 5:40Speaker 5: last week or if that was just on a week-by-week
- 5:44Speaker 5: basis and he had a good day. But it's going
- 5:46Speaker 5: to be a great day.
- 5:47Speaker 3: A great day to tailgate.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Beautiful weather to be in Lincoln, Nebraska, celebrating. Really what
- 5:59Speaker 5: my more interested over-under is, over-under is, you know, is
- 6:03Speaker 5: Dak going to make it to the second quarter of
- 6:07Speaker 5: the game? That's really the most interesting over-under I got.
- 6:10Speaker 5: So easy week, figuring stuff out, you know, want to
- 6:14Speaker 5: build off the momentum from last week, particularly the second half.
- 6:17Speaker 5: So see what we can do.
- 6:18Speaker 6: GBR. Return to Glory podcast, Hunter Zarbonicki. Tailgate Pod Edition
- 6:27Speaker 6: for Bowling Green.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I'm going to.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Combine yesterday's Friday episode with some of my thoughts here
- 6:35Speaker 6: today for the game. Real quick, how do we know
- 6:42Speaker 6: when we've actually turned the corner as a program at Nebraska?
- 6:46Speaker 6: I want to start off with this because we've lived
- 6:48Speaker 6: through enough September optimism and a comfortable win over Ohio.
- 6:56Speaker 6: an expected comfortable win over Bowling Green coming this week.
- 7:02Speaker 6: We've heard the talent narrative. We've seen the good. So
- 7:08Speaker 6: what would actually convince us that something's different? And when
- 7:13Speaker 6: I say turn the corner, I'm not saying make the
- 7:14Speaker 6: playoff this year, but doing something and being relevant again
- 7:21Speaker 6: and maybe the top 25, you know, winning eight games
- 7:23Speaker 6: this year. Let's start there. I think it starts with
- 7:27Speaker 6: the repeatability, right? And being consistently good because what that
- 7:31Speaker 6: shows is you have consistent players, you have consistent schematics
- 7:36Speaker 6: and coaching, you have consistent culture, everything's moving in the
- 7:40Speaker 6: right direction. So no, we don't have to do everything,
- 7:42Speaker 6: every possession perfect, but one bad possession doesn't lead to
- 7:48Speaker 6: a bad quarter and doesn't lead to a bad half.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Like that's what we've seen a lot in the past.
- 7:54Speaker 6: So That's why I think the Ohio game initially encouraged me.
- 7:59Speaker 6: But it also held me back a little bit because
- 8:02Speaker 6: of the way that started. Because I don't know that
- 8:05Speaker 6: we're obviously elite, but it was also encouraging because of
- 8:08Speaker 6: how we, second half, didn't let the first half dictate
- 8:14Speaker 6: how the game was going to go. So the response
- 8:16Speaker 6: was really good. So we'll see where that goes. So Saturday,
- 8:20Speaker 6: I'm not really grading us whether... The margin reach is 30.
- 8:27Speaker 6: I'm grading more so on how much unnecessary football we
- 8:32Speaker 6: create for ourselves. And can we do some of the
- 8:35Speaker 6: good things in the second half that we did against Ohio?
- 8:38Speaker 6: Can we consistently do that and take away some of
- 8:41Speaker 6: the self-inflicted things that we are well used to here
- 8:46Speaker 6: at Nebraska? So that's my first take or thought here
- 8:50Speaker 6: heading into the game. The second question or the second
- 8:54Speaker 6: thing I want to go about is and probably shouldn't
- 8:57Speaker 6: even talk about this but talk about experimenting or game
- 9:02Speaker 6: planning around a team that you're clearly better than and
- 9:06Speaker 6: I think we've also recognized that we probably shouldn't be
- 9:12Speaker 6: talking about this with anybody yet we're not there yet
- 9:16Speaker 6: um I don't know that Bowling Green is going to
- 9:22Speaker 6: give us a whole lot of challenge I mean we
- 9:24Speaker 6: hope they do for you know, facing adversity. But what
- 9:28Speaker 6: can you do now in game two of the 2026
- 9:32Speaker 6: season that can help prepare us for November? And I
- 9:36Speaker 6: think the first thing that comes to mind is personnel experimentation,
- 9:41Speaker 6: if you call.
- 9:41Speaker 3: It, right?
- 9:42Speaker 6: Trying to figure out which guys can play meaningful snaps
- 9:48Speaker 6: on both lines of scrimmage. Which receiver understands exactly what
- 9:54Speaker 6: you want and Anthony Calandria has a connection with. Which
- 9:59Speaker 6: defensive player out there is the leader of the group?
- 10:02Speaker 6: When Shambliss didn't play, is he the guy that we're
- 10:06Speaker 6: relying on to communicate the audibles and adjustments out there?
- 10:11Speaker 6: I think these first games are good for that, whereas
- 10:15Speaker 6: if you played Tennessee this week, it may be more
- 10:19Speaker 6: of a No, we're going to play the best guys
- 10:21Speaker 6: that we think right now give us a chance to win,
- 10:25Speaker 6: regardless of the outcome. And I'm not saying we're not
- 10:28Speaker 6: doing that against Bowling Green, but you probably feel like
- 10:31Speaker 6: you have a little bit of leeway to experiment with
- 10:35Speaker 6: some guys early on and seeing who clicks. So another
- 10:41Speaker 6: positive or pro about these early games. The second, I think,
- 10:46Speaker 6: and I think this is just as valuable, is situational. Right?
- 10:53Speaker 6: Like we saw at the end of the game last
- 10:56Speaker 6: week where we were mentioned. We needed practice to go
- 11:00Speaker 6: in and score kind of in a little bit of
- 11:02Speaker 6: a four-minute drill exercise. I know you got to be
- 11:06Speaker 6: a little bit respectful, I guess, of the other team
- 11:09Speaker 6: and the sportsmanship aspect of it. But that doesn't mean
- 11:12Speaker 6: a whole lot to me as probably it does a
- 11:15Speaker 6: lot of people. So finding opportunities... within a game like
- 11:21Speaker 6: this that you can put yourself in a situation, real
- 11:23Speaker 6: game situations that you might see later in the year
- 11:26Speaker 6: and execute efficiently. So I think the third place, I guess,
- 11:35Speaker 6: that you can do in both offense and defense is
- 11:38Speaker 6: presentation formations, trying different things and seeing what sticks with
- 11:45Speaker 6: your team. whether you can show blitzes and back off,
- 11:50Speaker 6: just different things that you can put on film, not
- 11:52Speaker 6: just for opponents, but for yourself, too, to go back
- 11:55Speaker 6: and look and say, okay, that was effective, that wasn't.
- 11:59Speaker 6: So you have a little bit of that. We saw
- 12:01Speaker 6: some tempo last week against Ohio, especially early on, some
- 12:05Speaker 6: no huddle that we really didn't see much at all
- 12:08Speaker 6: last year. Just some different things here that you can, again,
- 12:14Speaker 6: I'll call it experiment. you can argue that we shouldn't
- 12:19Speaker 6: be experimenting with anybody at this point and just try
- 12:21Speaker 6: to win the game. But I think this out of
- 12:24Speaker 6: any game on our schedule this year, this is a
- 12:26Speaker 6: one that the word experiment you can use. Um, for Saturday,
- 12:32Speaker 6: what am I looking for? The mistakes again, will they,
- 12:38Speaker 6: the first half mistakes that we saw last week, can,
- 12:42Speaker 6: can we just have the one mistake, stay the one
- 12:43Speaker 6: mistake and not, not do a bunch of these bonehead things. Um,
- 12:48Speaker 6: Let's see how we respond and see if that continues.
- 12:51Speaker 6: If it continues into Game 2 and Game 3, it's
- 12:55Speaker 6: going to get a little hairy here in the Big
- 12:58Speaker 6: Ten season. Looking for depth again, I think we saw,
- 13:03Speaker 6: I don't remember the number, we saw 11 guys play
- 13:06Speaker 6: significant snaps in the defensive line, 12 guys last week, right?
- 13:11Speaker 6: It goes back to this experimentation concept.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Who.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Can we figure out that we can trust out there
- 13:17Speaker 6: to accomplish what we want to accomplish? Whether that be
- 13:20Speaker 6: filling gaps, making the holes clogged up in the middle,
- 13:23Speaker 6: whether that is getting pass rush on third down. Which
- 13:27Speaker 6: guys can we trust and build some depth around the
- 13:31Speaker 6: guys that are starting? I guess the third thing or
- 13:39Speaker 6: last thing that I'm looking for here too is... what
- 13:43Speaker 6: we talked about was practice situations inside a live game, right? Like,
- 13:47Speaker 6: get something out of this game. I thought we got
- 13:49Speaker 6: a lot out of that Ohio game, right? Can we
- 13:53Speaker 6: build upon that, get something out of it? I think
- 13:56Speaker 6: it's hard when you're trying to stay in the moment
- 13:58Speaker 6: and win one game at a time, one quarter at
- 14:00Speaker 6: a time, one possession at a time. But this is
- 14:05Speaker 6: something that, as a coaching staff, you have to be
- 14:07Speaker 6: very aware of the things that you're doing now are
- 14:11Speaker 6: going to have an impact on what happens in October
- 14:13Speaker 6: and November if you do it the right way or
- 14:17Speaker 6: if you do it the wrong way. So what are
- 14:20Speaker 6: we doing now situationally, experimentally, without becoming cute and making
- 14:25Speaker 6: a fool of yourselves and having bonehead mistakes? What can
- 14:28Speaker 6: we do this Saturday against Bowling Green to accomplish that?
- 14:34Speaker 6: So finally, score prediction. I'm going to go, I'm going
- 14:38Speaker 6: to say that we're going to run all over them.
- 14:41Speaker 6: I think that this is going to be a game
- 14:45Speaker 6: that we should handily take care of, and I do.
- 14:47Speaker 6: I'm going to lean the positive side here and say
- 14:49Speaker 6: that a lot of the stuff that happened early on
- 14:51Speaker 6: is not going to happen again against Bowling Green, and
- 14:55Speaker 6: we're going to look very smooth.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Also, shout out.
- 15:00Speaker 6: To some of the other big games this week that
- 15:04Speaker 6: are going on. I know the Texas-Ohio State game is big.
- 15:08Speaker 6: That was a little bit of a, Detour there, but
- 15:11Speaker 6: score prediction for me, let's go.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Nebraska 52, Bowling Green 10.
- 15:24Speaker 6: Official prediction there. Big time cover of the spread. I
- 15:28Speaker 6: think our offense is going to come out and show
- 15:30Speaker 6: a lot too. Again, not that we're trying to run
- 15:32Speaker 6: it up or run it, or do anything offensively, egregious
- 15:38Speaker 6: to Bowling Green, but I think we do want to
- 15:40Speaker 6: show and get as many reps as we can. And
- 15:43Speaker 6: I think that bodes well for Nebraska cover and the
- 15:46Speaker 6: overs for this game on Saturday. This is the Tailgate
