- 0:00Charles: (laughing)
- 0:02Charles: So get this, get this right.
- 0:05Charles: We have decided to change up the show a little bit.
- 0:10Charles: Save a little bit of money where we can.
- 0:13Charles: And what we have done, as Chris and I,
- 0:17Charles: as business owners here at Loudspeaker, on VibeCheck,
- 0:23Charles: we decided to get rid of our hosts,
- 0:25Charles: outside of Chris and myself,
- 0:27Charles: And we decided to implement AI versions of our co-hosts.
- 0:33Charles: So, without further ado, I would like you,
- 0:37Charles: I would like to introduce you to Nora AI.
- 0:41Charles: Nora AI.
- 0:44Charles: Get in your shot, like, seriously, like, see.
- 0:47Charles: There we go, there we go.
- 0:48Charles: That's, I think that's where you're,
- 0:50Charles: oh, it needs to be a little bit, a little bit further.
- 0:53Charles: Nora AI, everybody!
- 0:54NorAI: Hello, I'm Nora AI.
- 0:57Charles: Welcome, welcome.
- 0:58Charles: How are you doing, NoriAI?
- 1:01NorAI: Boring.
- 1:03Charles: Okay, yeah, that's right.
- 1:04Charles: It is kind of a boring question to ask.
- 1:06Charles: Anyways, folks, let's roll that intro.
- 1:08Charles: the next one. Bye for now.
- 1:38Charles: (upbeat music)
- 1:57Charles: All right, everybody.
- 1:59Charles: Welcome, welcome, welcome to Vibe Check.
- 2:02Charles: It is Wednesday night.
- 2:04Charles: It is Wednesday evening.
- 2:07Charles: And I am your host, Charles Joseph Kelly.
- 2:15Charles: And with me as always, we've got the knitting master herself,
- 2:22Charles: the hostess with the mostess, Nora, Norae I.
- 2:26Charles: Welcome to the show, Norae I.
- 2:28NorAI: Shut up, Charles.
- 2:29Charles: Okay, all right, I will, I will.
- 2:33Charles: And then obviously on the ones and twos,
- 2:36Charles: We've got Christopher Lamp here in the back.
- 2:38Charles: Chris, how are you doing? - Hey, everybody.
- 2:39Chris: Chris is good.
- 2:40Chris: Chris is a human person.
- 2:43Charles: Yeah, we haven't fired you yet, so.
- 2:45Chris: Once you've been able to automate my job on the show,
- 2:48Chris: then I'll probably be gone as well.
- 2:49Charles: Got it, got it, got it, got it.
- 2:51Charles: So how's everybody doing?
- 2:53Charles: How is everybody's week?
- 2:57Charles: Any fun updates that we need to know about?
- 3:00NorAI: Hello, I'm Nora AI.
- 3:02Charles: Yeah, nice to meet you, Nora AI.
- 3:04Charles: Nori A.I., how's Pride going for you?
- 3:07NorAI: I love that your way of celebrating Pride
- 3:09NorAI: is to replace me, a queer woman, with A.I.
- 3:12Charles: Yeah, you know what?
- 3:16Charles: Touche, touche.
- 3:18NorAI: Chris, you're looking great today.
- 3:20NorAI: Charles, not so much.
- 3:22Charles: That's very kind, thank you.
- 3:24Charles: Okay, it's very anti-Charles today.
- 3:27Charles: I feel the vibes in the room were a little stressful.
- 3:32NorAI: You can't be non-binary if you're written with code.
- 3:37Charles: This is true.
- 3:38Charles: That is very true.
- 3:39Charles: What are you wearing?
- 3:40Charles: What's the shirt that you're wearing right now?
- 3:43NorAI: My shirt says dog cuddling shirt.
- 3:46NorAI: Isn't it lovely?
- 3:47Charles: Let's see.
- 3:47Charles: Let's take a look.
- 3:49Charles: It says dog cuddling.
- 3:50Charles: I have to like lift you up.
- 3:51Charles: Hold on.
- 3:53Charles: I have to lift you up.
- 3:53Charles: Dog cuddling.
- 3:55Charles: Oh God.
- 3:56Charles: There we go.
- 3:57Charles: Let's not do that.
- 3:59Charles: Let's not do that.
- 4:01Charles: Dog cuddling shirt.
- 4:04Charles: It's a really good shirt.
- 4:05Charles: It looks really good.
- 4:06Charles: I really like you got some new glasses it looks like.
- 4:08Charles: It looks like we match a little bit.
- 4:12NorAI: Meet Nora has perished in an unfortunate
- 4:14NorAI: but unforgettable accident.
- 4:16NorAI: Nora AI is now the true Nora.
- 4:19Charles: Nora AI is the true Nora.
- 4:22Charles: Oh my gosh.
- 4:24Charles: That's kind of like serious.
- 4:25Charles: Like what happened there?
- 4:27Charles: Like I don't understand.
- 4:30Charles: That's wild, that's a wild thing to say.
- 4:34Charles: Anyways.
- 4:35NorAI: I think that 9/11 was an inside job.
- 4:38NorAI: (laughing)
- 4:43Chris: Oh my God, what have we unleashed upon the earth, Travis?
- 4:47Chris: (Travis howling)
- 4:49Charles: Folks, this is how the show's going to be this episode.
- 4:53Charles: It's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 4:55Charles: We've got a great show for you.
- 4:56Charles: We've got a bunch of stuff from around the net.
- 4:59Charles: we've got talking about movies.
- 5:02Charles: Chris, I-- - Morning.
- 5:03Charles: (laughing)
- 5:06Chris: Nora is a real chatty Cathy tonight, isn't she?
- 5:10Chris: What's going on, Nora?
- 5:12Charles: Nora, I love the fact that you are here
- 5:15Charles: and we can control the things that you say.
- 5:18Charles: Shut up, Charles.
- 5:19Charles: (laughing)
- 5:20Charles: Yeah.
- 5:25Charles: Chris, can I just say something?
- 5:28Charles: You can try.
- 5:28Charles: I can try I can try to say something and not be interrupted give it a shot. It is a little difficult to like
- 5:37Charles: like have a little bit of of like a
- 5:41Charles: camaraderie with an AI
- 5:43Charles: You know like it's it's truly truly hard like I love like talking with a person and I understand that we needed to cut
- 5:50Charles: Costs I understand that we needed to to reduce
- 5:57Charles: reduce our
- 5:59Chris: Right, right, yes. - Right.
- 6:01Chris: Times are tight all over, you know,
- 6:02Chris: we're tightening the belt wherever we can.
- 6:04Charles: Right, exactly.
- 6:06Charles: But you know, it is, there is something to be said
- 6:09Charles: about having a person here with us.
- 6:13Charles: And I do appreciate having, I do appreciate,
- 6:15Charles: I do wanna say-
- 6:16NorAI: Charles, you are gay.
- 6:20Charles: Okay.
- 6:22Charles: The vibes are bad, AI.
- 6:25Charles: The vibes are bad.
- 6:26NorAI: Nor AI is not inhibited by your human concerns
- 6:30Chris: Okay. Yeah, so so I do I do appreciate how opinionated she is
- 6:37Charles: He is very opinionated on one subject how much I suck
- 6:41Chris: It's almost like the human AI is the human Nora is here. Yes
- 6:47Charles: It's so true
- 6:49Charles: Yeah, unfortunately Nora
- 6:51Charles: Human Nora died in a violent accident. I
- 6:56Charles: It was horrible and I think the Norei was involved.
- 7:01NorAI: Yes, that's the most correct thing you've ever said.
- 7:07NorAI: (laughing)
- 7:08Chris: So Charles, how's your week been?
- 7:11Charles: Mine has been good.
- 7:13Charles: I've been chill, it's been like a nice chill week
- 7:17Charles: for the most part.
- 7:19Charles: I have been playing a lot,
- 7:22Charles: like too many video games at this point.
- 7:26Charles: Too many.
- 7:27Charles: You know, when you bed rot for multiple days,
- 7:31Charles: do you have those days where you like bed rot
- 7:33Charles: for like a significant period of time?
- 7:36Chris: Define bed rot.
- 7:37Charles: Are you not familiar with the concept of bed rotting?
- 7:39Charles: No, is this like brain rot?
- 7:41Charles: Do you know what bed rotting is?
- 7:43Charles: No?
- 7:44Charles: Okay, so bed rotting-
- 7:45NorAI: Fuck yeah.
- 7:46NorAI: Oh, fuck yeah, baby.
- 7:49Charles: That was, you know how when I put in the notes
- 7:53Charles: that that one shouldn't sound very sexual?
- 7:55Chris: You know what, Charles?
- 7:56Chris: The AI does what the AI wants, okay?
- 8:02Chris: (laughing)
- 8:03Charles: Okay, bedrotting is a very interesting,
- 8:06Charles: very easy to understand concept.
- 8:08Charles: You know the, like when you sit in either your bed
- 8:13Charles: or your couch and you just sit there
- 8:16Charles: for too long of a time and you slowly become one
- 8:19Charles: with the couch?
- 8:21Charles: Have you ever been there?
- 8:23Chris: Yeah, definitely.
- 8:25Charles: Yeah, it's like that.
- 8:26Charles: You've just had like a 10 hour movie watching session
- 8:29Charles: and now you need to get up and your body has to like
- 8:32Charles: pull itself off and defuse from the couch
- 8:36Charles: is basically what bedrotting is.
- 8:38Charles: Gotcha, yeah, that makes sense.
- 8:39Charles: Yeah, so yeah, it was nice and chill though,
- 8:44Charles: but it was definitely like a bedrotting kind of a weekend.
- 8:47Charles: How was yours?
- 8:50Chris: Not too bad.
- 8:51Chris: I'm still dealing with the whole,
- 8:55Chris: the whole Catgate fiasco of the,
- 8:58Chris: of Mistress Catherine being trapped
- 9:00Chris: and trying forever to escape.
- 9:04Chris: So yeah, that's been a chunk of it.
- 9:08NorAI: When we-- - My circuits do not rot,
- 9:10NorAI: puny humans.
- 9:13Charles: That was a quick one.
- 9:15Charles: That was a good response there.
- 9:16Charles: Yeah. - So,
- 9:19Charles: last time, last we spoke,
- 9:21Charles: there was kind of a bigger incident that happened.
- 9:23Charles: Do you wanna talk about the #Catgate?
- 9:28Charles: (laughs)
- 9:33Chris: Basically, it's a cat-tastrophe, Charles.
- 9:36Chris: We have to keep them separated,
- 9:40Chris: just like the offspring said,
- 9:43Chris: because Mistress Catherine, or MK as we call her,
- 9:47Chris: basically makes a beeline for Luna
- 9:49Chris: anytime she finds her and like beats the crap out of her.
- 9:52Chris: So that's an issue.
- 9:54NorAI: Boring.
- 9:55Charles: Oh, thanks, thanks.
- 9:57Charles: You know what, how was your week, AI?
- 10:01Charles: How was your fucking week, huh?
- 10:04Charles: If we're gonna start this kind of nonsense,
- 10:06Charles: I wanna hear what you have to say.
- 10:08NorAI: I absolutely hate birds.
- 10:11NorAI: Fuck birds, fuck dinosaurs while we're at it.
- 10:14Charles: That brings us to a great segue to Around the Net.
- 10:19Charles: Around the net.
- 10:22Charles: Around the net.
- 10:24Charles: (upbeat music)
- 10:32Charles: So Nora AI, we found the first major difference
- 10:36Charles: in Nora AI versus Nora.
- 10:38NorAI: I go around many nets.
- 10:40Charles: What was that again?
- 10:43NorAI: I go around many nets.
- 10:45Chris: Oh because because you know, she has circuitry so she can go around the net faster than we can. Oh, okay
- 10:53Charles: I I did not process what she said whatsoever that time I
- 10:58NorAI: Struck a gallon of drinking water with every response just like the human Nora
- 11:04Charles: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I
- 11:06Charles: I see that and you've got a nice mouth to do so apparently
- 11:13Chris: Chris this is my kingdom for a zoom lens Charles. I do need a I just I need to know
- 11:22Charles: Shut up, Charles. No, I I will shut up for a second nor AI
- 11:27Charles: I do I do feel like there's something that we need to know
- 11:33Charles: I'm sorry in advance. I'm
- 11:36Charles: Truly sorry in advance. Oh
- 11:39Chris: Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh
- 11:43Chris: Oh, Charles.
- 11:52Charles: If anybody's wondering
- 11:54Charles: What it feels like
- 11:58Charles: I hate in the mouth of Nora AI. I hate this. I hate this or I know this or a Nora AI
- 12:06Charles: like
- 12:12Charles: Being
- 12:13Charles: everything else here. It's just like a it's just a balloon. How is that enjoyable?
- 12:22Charles: You couldn't be more wrong. How Chris, I'm serious. Like how it you're asking me? Yes,
- 12:29Charles: I want because you're the only person in Nora AI can't answer that quick enough. How is
- 12:35Charles: it that people find that this here enjoyable?
- 12:48Chris: As someone who has is not counted among that number, I don't really know.
- 12:56Chris: But I do see on Yahoo News Singapore seven reasons why a blow up doll might be better
- 13:01Chris: than your real girlfriend.
- 13:02Charles: OK, let's do that first.
- 13:03Charles: Let's do let's do this first.
- 13:04Charles: Let's go through this list. Okay. I want to do this list first before we jump into the the segments. Give me a second here
- 13:12Charles: Was not prepared. That was that is totally fine. And
- 13:17Charles: But you know, we have a lot of fun here folks
- 13:21Charles: this is what happens when you're trying to keep continue to
- 13:24Charles: To run a show on a regular basis and your co-hosts don't show up
- 13:29Charles: My partner did say and this was there because she is funnier than me
- 13:36Charles: that we also need to get a mandakin.
- 13:40Charles: A mandakin, oh, I love that.
- 13:43Charles: Isn't that great?
- 13:45Charles: We can absolutely do that.
- 13:46Charles: Yeah.
- 13:47NorAI: You're looking great today, Charles, not so much.
- 13:50Charles: Thanks, Nora.
- 13:52Charles: Yeah, yeah, great, you know, it's fine, it's fine.
- 13:57NorAI: I'm Nora AI.
- 13:59Charles: Hello, hello, Nora AI.
- 14:01Charles: So, so, my goodness.
- 14:06Charles: Okay, do you have the link pulled up or do I need to?
- 14:09Chris: Yeah, give me, click one button.
- 14:13Chris: There we go.
- 14:14Charles: Dead Air Time.
- 14:16Charles: Oh yeah, Thursday Weekly Comics.
- 14:19Charles: I'm guessing that's not part of this.
- 14:21Charles: Oh no, it is, it is.
- 14:23Charles: Real Girlfriend is a really high maintenance affair.
- 14:26Charles: I already hate this.
- 14:29Charles: (laughing)
- 14:32Charles: I already hate this because this is going to be
- 14:35Charles: so anti-woman.
- 14:36Charles: This is, we're gonna skip out,
- 14:38Charles: we're gonna do like the first three
- 14:39Charles: and then I'm gonna be like, nah, nah fam.
- 14:42Charles: This feels like, this feels like
- 14:45Charles: those shitty comedians who are always like,
- 14:48Charles: I hate my wife, am I right?
- 14:50Charles: Am I right, folks?
- 14:51Charles: Right, right.
- 14:52Charles: Yeah, so-
- 14:53Chris: Take my wife, please.
- 14:54Chris: That kind of stuff.
- 14:55Charles: A real girlfriend is really high maintenance
- 14:58Charles: That's not fair.
- 15:00Charles: A real girlfriend, especially a pretty one.
- 15:02Charles: Well, hold on, hold on. - Oh my God.
- 15:04Chris: There's, let's step aside for a second
- 15:08Chris: and say that not only are there female blow-up dolls,
- 15:12Chris: obviously those exist, but male blow-up dolls as well.
- 15:15Chris: There are multiple genders,
- 15:18Chris: multiple sexual identities of blow-up dolls.
- 15:22Chris: So if we remove the gender from this,
- 15:26Chris: then it's not anti-woman, it's just anti-person.
- 15:29Chris: Yeah, but I-
- 15:31Chris: So just replace the word girlfriend with partner.
- 15:34Charles: I hear you, I hear you,
- 15:36Charles: and I hear where you're coming from.
- 15:37Charles: However, this article is very anti-woman,
- 15:42Charles: and I need to put this out there,
- 15:44Charles: because it is talking about a girlfriend
- 15:46Charles: very specifically and talking about women.
- 15:49Chris: So-
- 15:49Chris: Yeah, you know what, we're just gonna do that.
- 15:52Charles: No, we need to go through
- 15:54Charles: at least the first couple answers.
- 15:55Charles: Trust me, we'll go through,
- 15:57Charles: and we'll dissect it very, very carefully.
- 16:02Chris: Folks, this is not something we planned.
- 16:05Chris: This is not something that was part of the rundown.
- 16:07Chris: We're flying off the cuff here,
- 16:09Chris: and so just keep in mind.
- 16:14Charles: It's okay, we got this, we got this.
- 16:16Chris: Yeah, we're all right, we're all right.
- 16:17Charles: All right, so bring it back up.
- 16:19Charles: So a real girlfriend, especially a pretty one,
- 16:20Charles: is like an expensive car, yikes.
- 16:23Charles: While men like us have not evolved much
- 16:26Charles: the caveman state. Uh, on the other hand, I hate this already, Chris, let's go to number two.
- 16:35Charles: Let's just go to number two and see how yikes are. You know what? Let's go to number seven.
- 16:39Chris: Number seven. Got it. Scroll all the way down. I'm scrolling. Uh, seven. Oh, okay. That one's
- 16:45Charles: all right. The blow up doll lives in the present. Oh my God. Okay. Girls may forget what they
- 16:53Charles: studied in high school completely but remember every mistake you make in IMAX quality from
- 16:57Charles: the beginning of the relationship. I... it is pride month. I have actually have something to
- 17:06Charles: say about this. I think, and you can cut back to me, I think that straight men are the gayest
- 17:15Charles: motherfuckers on the planet on the planet and Chris I know you're straight I get that I
- 17:23Charles: Get that however. Yeah, I was not blessed right the the average
- 17:28Charles: Dude the average man who talks like this
- 17:33Charles: Right, and I think this is pretty close to like I would say maybe rights of the median
- 17:39Charles: But it's pretty close to Center. Yes, right you would you would agree like I would
- 17:45Charles: These men are so gay.
- 17:49Charles: They're so gay.
- 17:50Charles: Like this is like, I hate women so much
- 17:54Charles: because all they do is nag, nag, nag, nag, nag.
- 17:58Charles: Well, it could be a bro.
- 17:59Charles: They could be a bro.
- 18:00Charles: We could just do like bro jobs, you know?
- 18:03Charles: Like-- - Bro jobs?
- 18:04Charles: Let's just do it.
- 18:06Charles: (laughing)
- 18:07Chris: That's gotta be a title that someone-
- 18:08Charles: All your response can only be,
- 18:10Charles: and all your response can only be
- 18:12Charles: is to run away from it with your tail between your legs.
- 18:15Charles: That's how that ends.
- 18:16Charles: Wow.
- 18:17Charles: You are such a beta cuck if you can't handle
- 18:21Charles: like any kind of criticism.
- 18:25Chris: Wait a second, the end of this article
- 18:27Chris: is particular of note given our current episode here.
- 18:34Chris: Why is it not showing up on the screen?
- 18:35Chris: Oh, there we go.
- 18:37Chris: So ladies, cut us some slack or Skynet and its robots
- 18:40Chris: might just replace you.
- 18:43Charles: Oh my god.
- 18:46Charles: Give a man a Saturday off for a movie marathon.
- 18:49Charles: Just leave the bros alone.
- 18:52Charles: Just leave us be.
- 18:53Charles: 'Cause all we wanna do is just be just guys sometimes.
- 18:57Charles: And we don't need that lady bullshit like emotions
- 19:01Charles: or wiping our ass.
- 19:04Charles: I watched a 10 minute TikTok series
- 19:10Charles: about a woman who almost married a dude
- 19:13Charles: who didn't wipe his ass,
- 19:15Charles: and it was like the most disgusting thing
- 19:17Charles: I've ever heard in my entire life,
- 19:19Charles: because it's too gay to wipe your own ass,
- 19:22Charles: to touch your own ass.
- 19:23Charles: Are you serious?
- 19:24Charles: I'm not kidding, and this is not the first time
- 19:27Charles: that I've heard this, and it's a regular occurrence
- 19:31Charles: within the straight dude community.
- 19:34Charles: We're so homophobic that you can't even wipe your own ass.
- 19:39Charles: ass.
- 20:11Charles: So anyways, um, how can we, I'm going to Google real quick.
- 20:16Charles: How can Nora AI be a little bit nicer to me?
- 20:22NorAI: It's so hard.
- 20:23NorAI: Looking great today.
- 20:24NorAI: Charles, not so much.
- 20:27NorAI: The one of five responses there.
- 20:30NorAI: So okay, we can cut to my screen here.
- 20:33NorAI: So this is actually really cute and I wanted to bring this to the table, but like scientists
- 20:37NorAI: have recently been teaching parrots to video call each other.
- 20:42NorAI: And it's absolutely adorable.
- 20:44NorAI: Like they would choose which bird they wanted to talk to.
- 20:47NorAI: They would they would chat. They would show toys.
- 20:50NorAI: They would say hello to each other. Oh, that's cool.
- 20:53NorAI: Yeah. So I wanted to watch a little bit of this
- 20:56NorAI: just so that we can kind of get like a little bit more experience
- 21:00Charles: of just how fucking cute this whole bird situation is.
- 21:06Charles: So like the birds would like.
- 21:10Charles: Let's see.
- 21:11Charles: So, yeah, so, yeah, they would
- 21:14Charles: touch the option, the bird that they wanted to talk to,
- 21:17Charles: and that would video call that bird.
- 21:21Chris: OK, so so when they do that,
- 21:24Charles: they then like have like cute little conversations
- 21:28Charles: and the calls, like they say, lasted a minute, like five minutes.
- 21:32Charles: And then once they were gone, they were like, oh, where's my bird friend?
- 21:35Charles: I want to talk to them and they would have full conversations
- 21:39Charles: Like I said, they would they would show toys to each other
- 21:44Chris: Look at this see who needs AI when you can teach birds to communicate like that, right?
- 21:49Charles: Exactly like for real like how?
- 21:52Charles: This is real life. This is so

- 43:25Charles: Right, so we've got so much free content for you all over the place. If you like
- 43:30Charles: what you see here, if you like the station, please consider supporting us.
- 43:34Charles: Whether that's following the channel, liking our stuff, or if you have the
- 43:39Charles: means to do so, donate to Loudspeaker.
- 43:43Charles: Loudspeaker is a non-profit dedicated to supporting
- 43:48Charles: underserved communities, whether that's queer communities,
- 43:51Charles: people of color, Chris or myself.
- 43:56Charles: (laughing)
- 43:58Charles: We are dangerously underserved, Charles.
- 44:01Chris: Right, right, exactly.
- 44:02Chris: We need more white voices for sure.
- 44:05Chris: Yeah, we're dying out.
- 44:06Chris: At least that's what a certain quarter
- 44:08Chris: of the internet thinks.
- 44:09Charles: Right, and you know, like we have so many examples
- 44:12Charles: of, not to toot our own horns,
- 44:14Charles: but of people that we have helped along the way.
- 44:18Charles: And this, Chris, you had a great point a few weeks ago
- 44:22Charles: about how this is kind of like
- 44:24Charles: the jumping off spot for people.
- 44:26Charles: Can you go into that a little bit?
- 44:28Chris: Sure, I mean, I always look at what we're doing
- 44:32Chris: as kind of a, and it's a buzzword that I hate,
- 44:36Chris: but it's properly descriptive.
- 44:38Chris: as a bit of an incubator.
- 44:40Chris: We want to help people get off the ground,
- 44:45Chris: get running with their ideas,
- 44:47Chris: get going with their art,
- 44:49Chris: whether it's music or podcasting
- 44:53Chris: or whatever stories they wanna put out into the world.
- 44:56Chris: We wanna help them do it.
- 44:58Chris: And the greatest gift is when someone says,
- 45:02Chris: "Hey, you know what?
- 45:03Chris: "I'm ready to strike out on my own.
- 45:05Chris: "I can spread my wings and fly."
- 45:08Chris: We have, you know, multiple people who've worked with us who have gone on to bigger and better things and
- 45:16Chris: We're just happy to be part of their journey. Yeah, I agree and
- 45:21Charles: You know and there's a lot of different ways that we do so
- 45:25Charles: Number one is by like we mentioned giving them a platform to speak their voice
- 45:31Charles: But that also includes like the training aspect of learning how to build a show whether that's a audio show a video show
- 45:38Charles: learning the tools like editing software,
- 45:43Charles: like streaming software, both video and audio.
- 45:48Charles: But then also, like we also provide this space
- 45:51Charles: in Northern Colorado for people to come in
- 45:54Charles: and utilize in a very inexpensive fashion, right?
- 45:59Charles: We've had multiple different non-profits
- 46:01Charles: who have used us for their own show.
- 46:03Charles: We have had people record their books in the studio.
- 46:08Charles: Chris, what other uses have people used?
- 46:10Chris: People have come in to do live streams for conferences.
- 46:14Chris: Yes.
- 46:16Chris: People have done webinars and how-to videos.
- 46:21Chris: That's the beauty of this space is we haven't configured
- 46:24Chris: a certain way for VibeCheck, but there's lots of different ways
- 46:29Chris: that it can be used.
- 46:30Chris: We've had people come in from other countries
- 46:33Chris: and find cool ways to utilize our space
- 46:39Chris: to tell the stories that work for them.
- 46:42Charles: Right, right, and this is all available
- 46:44Charles: thanks to our supporters like yourselves.
- 46:47Charles: So consider supporting us, financially or not.
- 46:51Charles: Just like the show, like this video,
- 46:53Charles: comment in the chat, subscribe to us,
- 46:57Charles: whatever you can do, check out loudspeaker.org.
- 47:00Charles: That's we got what six great states.
- 47:04Charles: Six great stations available for you for free right now.
- 47:09Charles: Chris kind of did a photo of this.
- 47:10Charles: We've got like the setups with like the microphones here.
- 47:13Charles: We have a full podcasting setup like like I don't think people realize this,
- 47:17Charles: but like we have four we can do.
- 47:22Charles: Four camera setup, we can do four mic setup in this room alone,
- 47:27Charles: and that's not including the space that Chris is in,
- 47:29Charles: which is like a separate room that we have available for this project.
- 47:35Charles: Holy cow.
- 47:36Charles: We've got some it's a it's a real it's a real studio, real studio.
- 47:41Chris: You know, Stina will appreciate this.
- 47:43Chris: She she worked with us when we were streaming out of my garage.
- 47:47Charles: Oh, my God.
- 47:48Charles: We ran into somebody and talked about this as well.
- 47:51Chris: Yeah. And we did a six hour live show on Halloween of 2020,
- 47:56Chris: which was in hindsight a disastrously wonderful idea.
- 48:01Chris: We should do it again.
- 48:01Chris: We should do it again.
- 48:03Chris: Oh, there's more music.
- 48:06Chris: And you know, we've graduated from the garage.
- 48:09Chris: We spent years recording, I don't know how many shows,
- 48:12Chris: Charles, in the garage studio.
- 48:15Chris: And look at us now, you know.
- 48:17Charles: Look at us now.
- 48:18Charles: We've got ourselves a blow-up doll.
- 48:21Charles: We've got ourselves a-
- 48:24Chris: A sophisticated AI robot, Charles.
- 48:26NorAI: Hello, I'm Nora AI.
- 48:28Charles: We've got this, I still,
- 48:30Charles: this is my favorite thing in the studio.
- 48:32Charles: It's the Elmer Fudd, the off-brand Elmer Fudd
- 48:36Charles: that has way too much ass.
- 48:39Charles: And you can, if you come to the studio,
- 48:40Charles: you can see this in person.
- 48:42Charles: You can see Elmer Fudd.
- 48:44Chris: Yeah, that's the selling point for the tour.
- 48:46Chris: (laughing)
- 48:49Charles: Gotta get his, let's see.
- 48:51Charles: Is that lit?
- 48:52Charles: Well, yeah, that definitely looks caked up, caked up.
- 48:57Charles: So that's it, that's Loudspeaker.
- 48:59Charles: Thank you so much for listening.
- 49:01Charles: Thank you so much for supporting us.
- 49:02NorAI: Thank you, I love you.
- 49:04NorAI: I like that video.
- 49:05Charles: I like that video too, Nora.
- 49:08Charles: So, okay, Chris, you wanna jump in
- 49:10Charles: and start up this next segment?
- 49:13Chris: Yeah, so we're gonna talk about summer movies
- 49:18Chris: in the state of Hollywood in general.
- 49:20Chris: There's some really interesting things happening
- 49:23Chris: in the world of movies.
- 49:25Chris: You know, ever since the pandemic,
- 49:29Chris: theaters have struggled.
- 49:31Chris: Theater chains have closed or been acquired
- 49:34Chris: by other companies.
- 49:38Chris: Theaters are reducing their footprint
- 49:39Chris: because so many things have moved to streaming.
- 49:42Chris: It's really been kind of a tough time
- 49:44Chris: for the movie industry.
- 49:46Chris: And when you consider the fact that like,
- 49:48Chris: You know, Hollywood movies is honestly
- 49:51Chris: one of our chief exports other than war
- 49:56Chris: that people around the world still wanna buy.
- 50:00Chris: But in the US, theaters have not done so hot,
- 50:03Chris: but it's kinda starting to take a turn.
- 50:06Chris: We've seen a lot of movies kinda buck the trend
- 50:11Chris: and make a lot more money than you would think
- 50:14Chris: of considering their budget or their constraints,
- 50:18Chris: The biggest one is Obsession, which came out,
- 50:23Chris: I wanna say about a month ago.
- 50:25Chris: Yeah.
- 50:25Chris: I'm gonna put the trailer up here on the screen.
- 50:28Chris: But Obsession is kind of a really interesting use case
- 50:34Chris: because this movie was made for $750,000.
- 50:39Chris: That's incredible.
- 50:40Chris: And it's made how much?
- 50:42Chris: It has made, as of today, $290 million.
- 50:47Chris: (howling)
- 50:49Chris: Now to you and me, 750,000 is a lot of money.
- 50:53Chris: Like it'd be a lot of money if someone just handed me that.
- 50:55Charles: That is nothing in the film space.
- 50:58Charles: That is a short film worth of funds there.
- 51:04Chris: If that, you know, I know short films
- 51:06Chris: that have cost more money than Obsession has.
- 51:10Chris: And to see, like one of the great things
- 51:13Chris: about horror movies in general
- 51:15Chris: is that they've always been dependable money makers
- 51:20Chris: for Hollywood, so you had instances like in the 70s
- 51:25Chris: where drive-ins were big and so there were lots of
- 51:28Chris: like low rent, like Z-grade horror stuff being turned out
- 51:32Chris: because drive-ins needed material,
- 51:34Chris: they needed new things to show
- 51:36Chris: to get people to keep coming back.
- 51:38Chris: In the 80s, you had the slasher craze
- 51:40Chris: and there was Halloween, there was Nightmare on Elm Street,
- 51:43Chris: There was Friday the 13th, and then Friday the 13th,
- 51:45Chris: one, two, three, four, 13, 17, so many of these sequels,
- 51:49Chris: but they kept making those sequels because they made money.
- 51:53Chris: They were consistent money makers for the studios
- 51:55Chris: when not a lot of other movies were,
- 51:57Chris: and they were safe bets.
- 52:00Chris: Everything is cyclical, so a lot of things
- 52:02Chris: have come back full circle, and here we are again
- 52:05Chris: with horror saving the movie industry.
- 52:08Charles: This is incredible.
- 52:10Charles: Like, I'm looking at this guy who directed this,
- 52:12Charles: 'cause I had never heard of this guy before.
- 52:14Charles: Curry Barker, it's his first movie.
- 52:16Charles: Yes, first official-- - First feature, yeah.
- 52:18Charles: First feature.
- 52:21Charles: 'Cause he made like a $800 found horror,
- 52:25Charles: like found footage horror film a couple years back.
- 52:28Charles: But the fact that he has made this with,
- 52:33Charles: who, like, who did the film?
- 52:37Charles: Is it Blumhouse?
- 52:40Chris: Blumhouse, yeah, Focus Features,
- 52:41Chris: which is part of Universal.
- 52:44Charles: That's incredible, he's 26 years old.
- 52:46Charles: I know, it's ridiculous.
- 52:47Charles: This and The Back Rooms Kid,
- 52:50Charles: they're both in their early to mid-20s.
- 52:54Charles: That's incredible.
- 52:55Chris: Back Rooms is another one.
- 52:57Chris: So this is an A24 film,
- 52:59Chris: and this one had what you would call
- 53:02Chris: a micro-budget in the industry.
- 53:04Chris: Like the 750 grand is not even on the scale,
- 53:07Chris: but a micro-budget is anything
- 53:09Chris: that's under like 50 million dollars.
- 53:11Chris: This movie was made for $10 million
- 53:14Chris: and has made 250 million at the box office so far
- 53:18Chris: based on an old copy pasta that YouTube and TikTok
- 53:23Chris: have been regurgitating for 15 years.
- 53:27Charles: Didn't the, wait,
- 53:30Charles: didn't the kid who make Back Rooms,
- 53:33Charles: isn't he the one who did the original short film
- 53:36Charles: and then they hired him to do the movie as well?
- 53:40Charles: Good question, I'm not entirely sure.
- 53:42Charles: Kane Parsons is his name, I think.
- 53:45Charles: Let me find, let's see.
- 53:48Chris: Also known as-
- 53:49Chris: Kane Parsons in his Feature Link directorial debut.
- 53:52Chris: It is based on Parsons' web series
- 53:54Chris: and inspired by the Backroom's Creepypasta.
- 53:56Chris: So yes, you are correct.
- 53:58Charles: Actual location, 2019 Creepypasta.
- 54:01Charles: So it hasn't been around for too long.
- 54:03Chris: Okay, I overshot it.
- 54:05Chris: It's definitely not two decades.
- 54:06Chris: But it's been an internet thing for a while.
- 54:09Chris: There are so many video games on Steam
- 54:11Chris: devoted to back rooms.
- 54:13Chris: There's so many weird videos that purport
- 54:17Chris: to go inside the back rooms and try to unlock the mystery.
- 54:21Chris: And now it's a feature length movie
- 54:24Chris: that was made for $10 million,
- 54:26Chris: which like we said, in Hollywood is nothing,
- 54:30Chris: but making boatloads and boatloads of money.
- 54:33Charles: Have you seen either of these films yet?
- 54:35Charles: Not yet.
- 54:36Charles: Man, I've been so bad about going to see films this year.
- 54:39Charles: It's been, it's been, holy shit.
- 54:43Charles: Like, I'm so scared, Chris.
- 54:47Charles: Like, I think this one, I think I could probably help,
- 54:51Charles: I could probably deal with the other one.
- 54:54Charles: What was it, Obsession?
- 54:56Charles: I normally can do those like stalkery films
- 55:00Charles: a little bit better than something like this.
- 55:02Charles: I feel like this found footage-y kind of a thing would like-
- 55:07NorAI: A guy could make better movies than this.
- 55:09Charles: No, they could not.
- 55:13Charles: They could not.
- 55:14Charles: Shut up, Charles. - And they will not ever.
- 55:17Charles: Shut up, Charles.
- 55:20Charles: All right, what other movies we got?
- 55:22Chris: So, I mean, there's lots of other stuff
- 55:24Chris: that's out right now, but I, yeah,
- 55:26Chris: I thought that this was a particularly interesting trend
- 55:29Chris: to see just these two movies are basically, you know,
- 55:34Chris: exploding at the box office, and it's really interesting
- 55:38Chris: 'cause you have other movies that are out,
- 55:40Chris: like the big movie that's come out so far
- 55:43Chris: for the summer season is The Mandalorian and Grogu,
- 55:46Chris: which had untold gobs of money at their disposal,
- 55:52Chris: huge, huge budget, it's a show that so many
- 55:55Chris: Star Wars people loved, and it's not exactly
- 55:59Chris: setting the world on fire.
- 56:00Chris: It has made 315 million, which is more
- 56:04Chris: obsession or backrooms, but it cost $165 million to make.
- 56:10Charles: So what that means in Hollywood terms, so if you're not familiar, basically a movie
- 56:21Charles: to break even has to make double what it costs to make.
- 56:28Chris: At least, because for most movies now, for most big tentpole releases like this, if its
- 56:33Chris: its budget was 165 million, that means they spent
- 56:37Chris: as much or more than that on marketing.
- 56:39Charles: Right, right, 100%.
- 56:40Chris: So just to break even, they've gotta make double that,
- 56:43Chris: if not a lot more.
- 56:45Charles: That is wild to me.
- 56:48Chris: Like every time you see 'em on a collector cup
- 56:50Chris: or in a Happy Meal or in some kind of weird product placement
- 56:55Chris: like the studio's paying for all of that
- 56:57Chris: and they're paying out the wazoo
- 57:00Chris: to increase the awareness of it.
- 57:03Chris: So yeah, for this movie to only make 315 million
- 57:08Chris: is pretty surprising when you factor in that,
- 57:11Chris: like, this is the sort of thing that people said forever
- 57:14Chris: that they wanted to see.
- 57:15Chris: And, you know, I think the first season-
- 57:16Chris: Did they?
- 57:17Chris: I mean, people wanted more of Baby Yoda.
- 57:21Chris: Okay, did they though?
- 57:23Chris: But did they want this?
- 57:24Chris: And do they want this now is the question.
- 57:27Chris: Like, do people still care about this?
- 57:29Chris: And some of them do, sure.
- 57:32Chris: but probably not what they were counting on.
- 57:36NorAI: I chug a gallon of drinking water.
- 57:38NorAI: I'm looking up-- - As a response,
- 57:39NorAI: just like the human Nora.
- 57:40Charles: The first season of "The Mandalorian" premiered in 2019.
- 57:46Charles: Right.
- 57:47Charles: This is a long time, a long time ago
- 57:50Charles: in a galaxy far, far away.
- 57:52Charles: This is, I don't think people realize
- 57:55Charles: like how long it's been since,
- 57:57Charles: and the first season was awesome.
- 57:59Charles: That was really a great thing of television.
- 58:03Chris: Yeah, first season was great.
- 58:04Chris: It was appointment viewing.
- 58:07Charles: Has there been any examples of a television
- 58:14Charles: to feature film in the theaters that has worked?
- 58:19Charles: Oh, that's a good question.
- 58:20Chris: I mean, the Star Trek series.
- 58:25Charles: You know what, that's a good point.
- 58:27Charles: to feature film that has-
- 58:31Chris: But making that jump is hard,
- 58:32Chris: even for a company like Disney,
- 58:34Chris: who has all of the resources in the world,
- 58:38Chris: they put all of their marketing muscle behind this movie,
- 58:41Chris: and I'm not gonna call something
- 58:43Chris: that made over $300 million a flop, it's not,
- 58:46Chris: but it's kind of telling that a movie
- 58:49Chris: with that many resources and that kind of talent
- 58:52Chris: and that kind of polish behind it,
- 58:54Chris: people aren't showing up for it
- 58:56Chris: the way they might have, you know,
- 58:58Chris: if it had come out five years ago or even two years ago.
- 59:01Charles: Yeah, the only ones that I'm seeing,
- 59:03Charles: so I have a short list.
- 59:07Charles: It's the AI overview, so I don't wanna fuckin' trust it.
- 59:10Charles: But like the Simpsons movie.
- 59:11NorAI: Hello, I'm Nora AI.
- 59:13Charles: Mission Impossible, which I don't think really counts
- 59:15Charles: because it's just a reboot of the TV show.
- 59:19Chris: And it was only loosely based on the show
- 59:21Chris: and the show came out 30 years prior.
- 59:23Chris: Right, exactly.
- 59:24Charles: South Park, I would count.
- 59:26Charles: Sure.
- 59:26Charles: 21 Jump Street, same exact situation.
- 59:29Charles: It doesn't necessarily count because,
- 59:32Charles: yeah, it's set in the same world,
- 59:33Charles: and yeah, Johnny Depp shows up in it,
- 59:35Charles: and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 59:36Charles: but it's not like an actual continuation
- 59:39Charles: of the actual story.
- 59:41Chris: And I would also argue that South Park
- 59:43Chris: doesn't even really count because
- 59:46Chris: they've had one movie, and yes, it was successful,
- 59:49Chris: but the series has been far more successful
- 59:51Chris: than the movie was and the series is still on the air.
- 59:54Chris: Right.
- 59:55Chris: Like for that to count, you'd also have to count things
- 59:57Chris: like the Simpsons movie, which I don't think counts
- 1:00:00Chris: in that realm because yes, it made the jump to film,
- 1:00:05Chris: but the film was just a, you know.
- 1:00:09Chris: I think it counts.
- 1:00:10Charles: A bystander. - It counts.
- 1:00:11Charles: It counts because it's a full-length feature film
- 1:00:13Charles: and even though like, I think South Park
- 1:00:15Charles: and Simpsons count in this situation.
- 1:00:19Charles: Okay.
- 1:00:20Charles: It was like a continuation of the show.
- 1:00:22Chris: It was a continuation, but it was just a one-off.
- 1:00:26Chris: It wasn't something where-
- 1:00:27Charles: But every episode is a one-off
- 1:00:29Charles: in "Simpsons" and "South Park," right?
- 1:00:31Charles: That's the whole nature of the show.
- 1:00:33Charles: So it's not like we're getting serialized "Simpsons."
- 1:00:36Charles: I hope we're not.
- 1:00:38Chris: There is a second "Simpsons" movie coming out in 2027.
- 1:00:41Charles: That is going to bomb so hard for Disney.
- 1:00:43Charles: You think so?
- 1:00:45Charles: Dude, nobody cares about the "Simpsons."
- 1:00:48Chris: Oh, my heart breaks.
- 1:00:50Charles: I'm sorry, in 2026, people are not watching The Simpsons,
- 1:00:56Charles: or at least enough people are watching to keep it going,
- 1:01:00Charles: right, and I'm sure it's probably cheap enough
- 1:01:02Charles: for them to produce that it makes sense,
- 1:01:04Charles: but like, holy shit, like,
- 1:01:09Charles: what part of the cultural zeitgeist,
- 1:01:12Charles: or when was the last time that The Simpsons
- 1:01:14Charles: was part of the cultural zeitgeist?
- 1:01:17Charles: And I think it's the Simpsons movie
- 1:01:19Charles: with the fucking spider pig.
- 1:01:21Charles: That's the only thing that people quote.
- 1:01:24Charles: I don't think people could quote
- 1:01:26Charles: New Simpsons at this point.
- 1:01:29Chris: That's true.
- 1:01:30Chris: I mean, myself personally, I fondly remember
- 1:01:34Chris: the first 10 or so years of The Simpsons
- 1:01:37Chris: because that was what I grew up on.
- 1:01:40Chris: And I've caught episodes here and there since then,
- 1:01:42Chris: but it was, I don't wanna cast aspersions on its quality.
- 1:01:47Chris: I still think it's good quality,
- 1:01:48Chris: but I don't think it doesn't match
- 1:01:51Chris: what I remember the show being.
- 1:01:54Chris: But I also am of the opinion that no show
- 1:01:56Chris: should be on the air for 30 years,
- 1:01:58Chris: no matter how good it is.
- 1:02:00Charles: Yeah, I'm looking through this.
- 1:02:03Charles: You know what, there was one that we missed.
- 1:02:05Charles: Oh no, what is it?
- 1:02:06Charles: Jackass.
- 1:02:08Chris: (laughing)
- 1:02:10Chris: Jackass, and Jackass is, you know,
- 1:02:14Chris: has another movie coming out this-
- 1:02:16Chris: No shit. - This is summer.
- 1:02:17Chris: This is the trailer.
- 1:02:20Chris: Jackass 5, the subtitle of it is Best and Last.
- 1:02:26Chris: So yeah, this is a thing that is supposedly the last one.
- 1:02:30Charles: You know what, another one,
- 1:02:31Charles: I'm looking through this list on my-
- 1:02:33Chris: Mostly because these guys are pushing geriatric age
- 1:02:36Chris: and I doubt insurance will cover 'em anymore
- 1:02:38Chris: if they get seriously hurt.
- 1:02:40Charles: The last Jackass was actually quite enjoyable.
- 1:02:44Charles: Like I had a lot of fun with that.
- 1:02:46Charles: This one, 'cause that,
- 1:02:48Charles: I thought that was gonna be the last one.
- 1:02:50Charles: The one that came out like a couple years back.
- 1:02:51Charles: It probably should have been, but here we are again.
- 1:02:54Chris: That's the other thing too,
- 1:02:55Chris: and I think that's one of the reasons why,
- 1:02:58Chris: and I'm not saying anything new with this,
- 1:03:00Chris: but I think it's one of the reasons why
- 1:03:04Chris: theaters are struggling,
- 1:03:05Chris: because so many of the movies that are coming out
- 1:03:08Chris: are sequels or reboots of like existing IP.
- 1:03:13Chris: and not only Jackass and not only Mandalorian,
- 1:03:17Chris: but Toy Story 5 is coming out.
- 1:03:22Chris: Yeah, there's a lot of it.
- 1:03:24Charles: Are reviews out for the new Toy Story yet?
- 1:03:27Chris: I haven't looked, but there's a live action Moana,
- 1:03:29Chris: which is the most yawn thing ever
- 1:03:31Chris: because the quote unquote live action movies
- 1:03:34Chris: are fucking terrible. - Oh, he looks so bad.
- 1:03:35Charles: He looks so bad, dude.
- 1:03:37Chris: Yeah, it's a trash fire.
- 1:03:43Chris: Marvel is shaping up to start doing more.
- 1:03:45Chris: So like Spider-Man Brand New Day comes out.
- 1:03:48Chris: And it looks like it'll be fine.
- 1:03:49Chris: And it looks like it'll be exactly
- 1:03:51Chris: like every other Spider-Man movie that's been out.
- 1:03:55Chris: You know, with Tom Holland.
- 1:03:56Chris: This is, I think, the fourth one
- 1:03:59Chris: of the Tom Holland Spider-Man.
- 1:04:02Chris: So many sequels and reboots.
- 1:04:04Chris: And things that you haven't thought of in years,
- 1:04:07Chris: they're rehashing.
- 1:04:09Chris: Super Troopers 3 is coming out.
- 1:04:11Charles: No, no, come on.
- 1:04:13Charles: Yeah.
- 1:04:14Charles: Why?
- 1:04:15Chris: Yeah, Super Troopers 3.
- 1:04:18Chris: And I know people who grew up and loved Super Troopers
- 1:04:22Chris: and nothing wrong with that.
- 1:04:23Charles: It was fun.
- 1:04:24Charles: I enjoy the first one.
- 1:04:26Chris: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:04:27Chris: But like, they're doing it again
- 1:04:28Chris: and it's been what, 20 years?
- 1:04:31Charles: Yeah, for real.
- 1:04:31Charles: And it's, did they have to,
- 1:04:33Charles: 'cause I know the second movie they kickstarted.
- 1:04:36Charles: Do you remember that?
- 1:04:37Charles: Oh, that's right.
- 1:04:38Chris: Yeah.
- 1:04:39Chris: And like, it's Disney behind this.
- 1:04:41Chris: It's Searchlight, which is 20th Century, which is Disney.
- 1:04:45Chris: So like, they're just, they're mining every single IP
- 1:04:49Chris: they can try to find.
- 1:04:50Chris: Speaking of which, what's also back,
- 1:04:52Chris: and this one I'm actually excited for,
- 1:04:55Chris: Masters of the Universe.
- 1:04:56Chris: Okay.
- 1:04:58Chris: I'm pretty excited for this one.
- 1:05:00Chris: You and I have talked about this offline.
- 1:05:03Chris: Masters of the Universe is really the first IP
- 1:05:06Chris: I grew up loving.
- 1:05:07Chris: It was right when I was a kid.
- 1:05:09Chris: I watched the cartoon, I had the original
- 1:05:12Chris: like little five inch action figures.
- 1:05:16Chris: That's how I learned that you can get by
- 1:05:17Chris: just fine with five inches.
- 1:05:19Chris: And, you know, I am really, really excited for this
- 1:05:23Chris: to just pull every nostalgia bone.
- 1:05:25Chris: But Masters of the Universe has not had a movie since 1987.
- 1:05:30Chris: I'm okay with them, you know, trying to, you know,
- 1:05:35Chris: throw a fresh coat of paint on it.
- 1:05:36Charles: I know this movie is for you and me.
- 1:05:38Chris: Oh, 100%.
- 1:05:39Charles: Who else is this movie for?
- 1:05:41Charles: Jared Leto.
- 1:05:43Charles: That's it?
- 1:05:43Charles: Like it's-
- 1:05:44Charles: 'Cause Jared Leto is playing Skeletor.
- 1:05:47Chris: So, oh God, it's gonna bomb then.
- 1:05:49Chris: I don't know.
- 1:05:50Chris: He's got the curse, man.
- 1:05:51Chris: There is the Jared Leto curse.
- 1:05:53Chris: I mean, Tron, yeah, the Tron uprising thing.
- 1:05:56Charles: Every franchise that he's a part of lately,
- 1:05:59Charles: Morbius is another example of a franchise that he has killed.
- 1:06:02Chris: Yeah.
- 1:06:02Charles: I mean, that movie was-
- 1:06:04Charles: It is Morbin Time.
- 1:06:05Charles: It's Morbin Time.
- 1:06:07Chris: But this looks like it's gonna be a blast.
- 1:06:10Chris: So I'm not hating on every IP being a thing,
- 1:06:15Chris: but also what I'm hating on is the constant
- 1:06:20Chris: cycling of the same IP, the same stories,
- 1:06:24Chris: the same movie over and over again.
- 1:06:26Chris: 'Cause Spider-Man, no matter how good that movie is,
- 1:06:29Chris: you've seen it already.
- 1:06:31Chris: You've seen it so many times already.
- 1:06:33Charles: I think that is the problem with and why the Marvel movies,
- 1:06:40Charles: the Star Wars movies are kind of failing nowadays.
- 1:06:43Charles: Right.
- 1:06:44Charles: Is because it's all the same movie.
- 1:06:46Charles: Like they have that, just that, that, that skeleton,
- 1:06:51Charles: that skeletor of what that movie should be
- 1:06:55Charles: and having all of those very specific beats throughout.
- 1:06:57NorAI: I don't know what Masters of the Universe is.
- 1:07:01Charles: Cool, it's so frustrating.
- 1:07:05Charles: Nora AI is so frustrating that she just comes in here
- 1:07:08Charles: and has just like a quick little quip
- 1:07:11Charles: and then just disappears and there's no like-
- 1:07:12Charles: I like that video. - Back and forth.
- 1:07:14Charles: There's no back and forth with Nora AI.
- 1:07:16Charles: And I'm just like, I wanna have a conversation with you.
- 1:07:19Charles: However, you only talk out.
- 1:07:22Charles: Shut up, Charles. - You don't talk to me.
- 1:07:24Charles: I know, I'm not going to shut up.
- 1:07:26Charles: You shut up.
- 1:07:28Charles: Everything I do is wrong.
- 1:07:30Charles: (laughing)
- 1:07:33Charles: I can't win.
- 1:07:36Charles: Toy Story, critic reviews are starting to come out,
- 1:07:38Charles: it looks like, it's sitting at a 74 right now.
- 1:07:44Chris: And like, I have nothing against these movies existing.
- 1:07:47Chris: Obviously they're being made because people think
- 1:07:49Chris: there's an audience for it,
- 1:07:51Chris: but that audience is starting to dwindle
- 1:07:54Chris: because we're just rehashing the same stories
- 1:07:55Chris: over and over again.
- 1:07:57Chris: You also have some things coming out
- 1:07:59Chris: that are truly kind of somewhat original.
- 1:08:02Chris: Like you have Disclosure Day coming out,
- 1:08:06Chris: which I think it just came out on Friday.
- 1:08:08Chris: That's the new Steven Spielberg movie,
- 1:08:10Chris: and it's like an alien invasion kind of thing.
- 1:08:13Chris: This seems like it might be interesting
- 1:08:15Chris: because I know that it's, oh my God, is he in it?
- 1:08:18Chris: I know that it's like not,
- 1:08:21Chris: whatever it is, it's not gonna be something
- 1:08:23Chris: I've seen 100 times already.
- 1:08:25Charles: Well, we'll see about that.
- 1:08:27Charles: Hopefully not.
- 1:08:28Charles: It looks very Independence Day.
- 1:08:30Charles: Sure, but like, yeah, there's room for like,
- 1:08:34Chris: your like disaster type movies.
- 1:08:36Chris: I'm just glad that it's not some IP
- 1:08:40Chris: that gets a new movie every couple of years
- 1:08:43Chris: because people think there's just like an instant audience.
- 1:08:46Chris: I like that they're at least taking somewhat of a chance.
- 1:08:49Chris: Now I don't know what the budget for this movie is.
- 1:08:51Chris: I'm sure it's a lot, but that I think goes to its credit.
- 1:08:55Chris: I think that's a credit to them willing to take a chance
- 1:08:59Chris: on something new.
- 1:09:00Chris: The problem is, if you're not Steven Spielberg,
- 1:09:04Chris: it's very, very hard to get studios
- 1:09:07Chris: to take a big chance like that.
- 1:09:08Chris: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:09:10Chris: The days of the small budget to mid-budget movie,
- 1:09:15Chris: anywhere from like 10 to 50 million dollars,
- 1:09:19Chris: making tons and tons of money and getting a huge release
- 1:09:22Chris: are kind of over.
- 1:09:24Chris: Even like one battle after another,
- 1:09:26Chris: which Paul Thomas Anderson has spent his career making
- 1:09:30Chris: somewhat small budget movies in comparison
- 1:09:32Chris: to things like this, you know, cleaned up at the Oscars,
- 1:09:37Chris: but that movie also cost like $150 million.
- 1:09:40Chris: Right, right.
- 1:09:42Chris: Which I don't know.
- 1:09:44Chris: It's a weird time to be a fan of movies.
- 1:09:46Chris: Like there's some good stuff coming out,
- 1:09:48Chris: there's a lot of recycled stuff coming out,
- 1:09:51Chris: there's a lot of uncertainty,
- 1:09:53Chris: and I think the way people are gonna come back
- 1:09:56Chris: to the movies is by studios taking more chances
- 1:09:58Chris: on things like Obsession or things like Back Rooms.
- 1:10:03Charles: Which are both like, here's the thing
- 1:10:05Charles: about both of those movies, those are YouTubers.
- 1:10:08Charles: Right.
- 1:10:09Charles: Like who are directing those films.
- 1:10:10Charles: Yeah.
- 1:10:10Charles: And I'm sure they're great films
- 1:10:12Charles: and I'm sure I'll watch them when I'm not a little baby
- 1:10:17Charles: and can actually stand watching it.
- 1:10:19Charles: But like, is that the direction?
- 1:10:23Charles: 'cause also the same thing happened with,
- 1:10:24Charles: what was it called, Iron Lung,
- 1:10:27Charles: the one directed by Markiplier.
- 1:10:31Charles: I forgot about that, did you see that?
- 1:10:33Charles: I never saw it. - No, I haven't seen it yet,
- 1:10:34Charles: but it's just another example of like,
- 1:10:36Charles: films, Five Nights at Freddy's,
- 1:10:38Charles: another great example of just like,
- 1:10:41Charles: the way to win isn't,
- 1:10:44Charles: and like, Five Nights at Freddy's wasn't a good movie,
- 1:10:47Charles: but it was meant for that very specific audience.
- 1:10:50Chris: And it was successful enough to warrant a sequel
- 1:10:53Chris: almost immediately.
- 1:10:54Chris: And I think, I could be wrong,
- 1:10:55Chris: but I think a third one is in production.
- 1:10:57Charles: So it's not necessarily like people are interested
- 1:11:01Charles: in good movies.
- 1:11:05Charles: Is it that they're just more interested in YouTubers?
- 1:11:09Charles: That's depressing.
- 1:11:10Chris: I mean, I think, you know,
- 1:11:12Chris: if there is hope for Hollywood,
- 1:11:14Chris: it is that they are listening to people
- 1:11:16Chris: who are not going the traditional Hollywood route
- 1:11:19Chris: to get people interested in their stories.
- 1:11:20Chris: And YouTube is becoming a much more important part
- 1:11:23Charles: of that conversation than it is.
- 1:11:24Charles: Yeah, and there's nothing wrong necessarily
- 1:11:27Charles: with YouTubers creating stuff.
- 1:11:29Charles: It's just like, I don't know.
- 1:11:31Charles: It's very weird.
- 1:11:35Charles: It's a new direction, and hopefully,
- 1:11:39Charles: hopefully we get some unique stuff out of it.
- 1:11:43NorAI: Fuck yeah.
- 1:11:44NorAI: Oh, fuck yeah, baby.
- 1:11:47Charles: (laughing)
- 1:11:47Charles: so much
- 1:11:50Charles: Nor AI that's awful
- 1:11:54Charles: Okay, so I think
- 1:11:56Charles: Well a good amount of the show. Do we want to do marble minute and then kind of call it up on the marble minute
- 1:12:05Charles: So Chris remind people what marble minute is marble minute
- 1:12:08Chris: So we have been tracking the results of the 2026 marble league
- 1:12:12Chris: You see the teams that each person is chosen up there on the screen right now
- 1:12:16Chris: Now, the Marble League is an event, we don't run this,
- 1:12:19Chris: we're just showing clips of it.
- 1:12:20Video: One of the more challenging events in the Marble League.
- 1:12:23Chris: Done by Yele Baker in, I believe, Sweden or Denmark,
- 1:12:27Chris: one of those countries.
- 1:12:29Chris: But yeah, they've been doing this since 2016.
- 1:12:32Chris: They do a series of 16 events every year,
- 1:12:35Chris: and you pick your team and you vote for what you're doing.
- 1:12:39Chris: So this next event is the Underwater Race.
- 1:12:43Chris: This happened last week,
- 1:12:44Chris: It's our first time seeing them.
- 1:12:46Chris: So the pinkies, which is Mandy's team.
- 1:12:50Chris: And then now we're doing the second race.
- 1:12:52Chris: And here's Charles's team, the Indigo stars.
- 1:12:56Chris: Is it first one wins?
- 1:12:59Charles: Is that kind of the.
- 1:13:00Charles: Yeah, it's just fastest time.
- 1:13:02Charles: Several links leave.
- 1:13:03Charles: But the Blackjacks know now it's crazy.
- 1:13:05Charles: Oh, that's rough.
- 1:13:06Video: We will follow these snowballs across.
- 1:13:09Charles: No balls are to wire.
- 1:13:11Charles: When are doing well?
- 1:13:12Charles: But, you know, that's cool.
- 1:13:14Chris: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:13:14Chris: That's kobalt's and and my team actually crazy cat sighs nice
- 1:13:18Chris: Here's chocolate tears, which is Nora's team in the gate
- 1:13:22NorAI: Whiver before they are released. I love my poopy little marble team
- 1:13:29Chris: To choose her team of her own volition because like today she didn't show up for the show. Oh wait
- 1:13:38Chris: the chocolatiers win
- 1:13:43Video: Let's see
- 1:13:44Chris: Holy shit!
- 1:13:46Chris: Wow, yeah, Chocolatiers.
- 1:13:50Chris: Damn.
- 1:13:55Video: All right, here's Charles's team.
- 1:13:57Charles: Come on, Stars!
- 1:13:59Charles: Come on, Stars!
- 1:14:02Video: Oh!
- 1:14:10Video: (gasps)
- 1:14:12Charles: Oh, that was so close!
- 1:14:14Charles: What was that?
- 1:14:16Charles: Holy shit.
- 1:14:18Charles: OK.
- 1:14:19Video: We'll check out the we'll check the replay here.
- 1:14:21Video: Solar Flares Indigo Stars Raspberry Racers go.
- 1:14:24Charles: Holy shit.
- 1:14:25Video: Is that a tie all the way to the wall?
- 1:14:30Video: Well, the solar flares definitely did win it, but 1316,
- 1:14:34Video: that's the closest we can get because of both the optics in the water
- 1:14:38Video: and the timing and scoring system.
- 1:14:40Video: There's no way to differentiate between those two 1316.
- 1:14:44Chris: Okay, so there's a tiebreaker here
- 1:14:46Chris: because they were so close.
- 1:14:47Chris: Both Indigo Stars and Raspberry Racers
- 1:14:49Chris: had the exact same time.
- 1:14:50Chris: The other team was ahead by 1/10th of one second.
- 1:14:54Chris: Damn. - Or 1/100th of a second.
- 1:14:56Chris: I don't know how math works.
- 1:14:58Video: Tiebreak.
- 1:15:00Video: Dude, the thing with the Stars is we kind of like
- 1:15:03Video: fuck up these specific moments.
- 1:15:07Charles: We're not good with a tiebreaker.
- 1:15:09Video: Oh, oh, oh!
- 1:15:12Charles: Oh!
- 1:15:13Video: Look at that, baby.
- 1:15:15Video: To be able to make it up, Indigo Stars will advance.
- 1:15:19Charles: Stars, stars, stars, stars, stars, stars.
- 1:15:23Video: Hazers, Crazy Cat's Eyes,
- 1:15:25Video: Indigo Stars, and the Chocolatiers.
- 1:15:27Video: Okay, so we're in the semi-finals now.
- 1:15:30Video: Who emerges at the front?
- 1:15:32Video: It was the Hazers, but now it's Crazy Cat's Eyes.
- 1:15:35Video: Hazers, right alongside of them.
- 1:15:36Video: Ooh, no!
- 1:15:37Video: Now they take the lead.
- 1:15:38Video: Great move through the final turn.
- 1:15:41Video: Hazers will win it.
- 1:15:42Video: Cat's eyes are also on to the final
- 1:15:48Video: My team stars come taking some names for once and chocolate tears
- 1:15:53Video: In fourth
- 1:15:55NorAI: There's a conspiracy to keep the tears down
- 1:16:01Video: So the players get moved to the bag reserves once again take the lead as they've done in most of the same move that we saw from crazy cat size
- 1:16:07Video: Here go the Hazers to the inside.
- 1:16:10Video: They make the turn on the run down the line.
- 1:16:11Video: Hazers will get gold in the underwater race.
- 1:16:14Chris: Nice.
- 1:16:16Chris: And a reminder, we're only showing clips of this.
- 1:16:18Chris: If you want to watch the full event,
- 1:16:20Chris: go to youtube.com/yellasmarbleruns.
- 1:16:23Chris: They do some pretty phenomenal work.
- 1:16:25Video: How about that for Smoggy?
- 1:16:27Video: First gold medal for that marble.
- 1:16:29Video: Congratulations, savor it.
- 1:16:31Video: And timing could not be better.
- 1:16:34Video: With just a couple of events left to go
- 1:16:36Video: these Marble League games.
- 1:16:38Video: What does this do to the stand?
- 1:16:39Video: There's a conspiracy to keep the
- 1:16:40Video: Chocolatiers down.
- 1:16:41NorAI: I don't know for sure, but I think
- 1:16:42NorAI: that Jeffrey Epstein had something
- 1:16:43NorAI: to do with it.
- 1:16:44Video: Yeah, snowballs have the lead
- 1:16:46Video: Indigo star.
- 1:16:46Chris: All right.
- 1:16:47Chris: So we're up to these the next
- 1:16:49Chris: event, which is the sand rally.
- 1:16:51Chris: They had to this is normally done
- 1:16:52Chris: outdoors, but they had to move it
- 1:16:54Chris: indoors due to inclement weather
- 1:16:56Video: off they go and we avoid an early
- 1:16:58Video: whoa stars have the lead.
- 1:17:02Video: Whoa, but look to the bottom side.
- 1:17:05Video: That's Club from the Black Jacks.
- 1:17:07Video: Club will win it.
- 1:17:09Video: Crazy Cat's Eyes take second,
- 1:17:11Video: third for Indigo Stars, and Kobalts came up-
- 1:17:13Video: Kicked your ass, Charles.
- 1:17:15Charles: That was something else.
- 1:17:17Charles: That was real close.
- 1:17:18Video: He was eliminated in that round.
- 1:17:21Video: Our championship leaders, the Snowballs, finish in last.
- 1:17:25Charles: I am glad that the Snowballs are further down.
- 1:17:28Charles: That makes me feel a little bit better about this one.
- 1:17:30Video: In seventh.
- 1:17:32Video: Yes, Green Ducks are a little bit farther down,
