- 1:26And then the final League game at home to Darlington on the
- 1:3029th of April, in Speedway, the disappointing start to the
- 1:34season. For Pittsburgh Panthers
- 1:35continued as the Panthers were, humbled, 5535 on their own Track
- 1:40by Bellevue on Monday with the aces continue, in an incredible
- 1:44record at the show, ground with the eighth, win from their last
- 1:47nine visits, missing their number one Rider Nicki Pedersen,
- 1:51who has left the club after injury.
- 1:52He sustained in the first meeting of the Season, Panthers
- 1:55struggled, throughout the meeting with guest rider for the
- 1:58evening, Michael Palm Toft failing to score a single point.
- 2:01Panthers are back in action on Monday, which is the 24th with
- 2:05the return fixture at Bellevue and life gets no easier with
- 2:08trips to Sheffield and Wolverhampton to follow.
- 2:12In swimming, it was Metals Galore for to of the city
- 2:15Peterborough. Sweet, pete, city of
- 2:17Peterborough. Swimmers 16 year old Hannah
- 2:19Willis, followed a glorious gold medal at the British
- 2:22championships at ponds Forge, International Sports, Centre in
- 2:24Sheffield with a gold, a silver and two bronze medals at the
- 2:28Scottish championships. In Aberdeen Willis.
- 2:31One, her gold medals in the 50-meter backstroke.
- 2:34They were her first and national titles clubmate.
- 2:37Megan Donovan. Also made 5 finals in Aberdeen
- 2:40and returned home home with a bronze medal in the 50-meter
- 2:44backstroke snooker. And it was disappointment for
- 2:47local man. Joe Perry as he was beaten in
- 2:50round 1 of the world championships at The Crucible in
- 2:52Sheffield. This week Perry from chatter has
- 2:55led Robert milk in 72 going into final session.
- 2:58It then become 84 before the higher-ranked milken's 15 frames
- 3:03in the road to lead 98 a break of 63 enabled, Perry to take the
- 3:07match into the decider, which milken's one also with a break
- 3:11of Three and following on from our guests last week, the
- 3:15Peterborough Royals women's American football team, the
- 3:18women will be making history this weekend, as they begin.
- 3:20The first season of the 9 v9 format in the National Women's
- 3:24American Football League with the first game against Leeds
- 3:27charges. It's a free entry to the game at
- 3:29Peterborough Ryan's lions or a club in Britain with a bar, will
- 3:33be open and a barbecue on. The go is also a raffle and
- 3:36other small stores to keep you busy during halftime.
- 3:40The match kicks off at to and You'll find more details on the
- 3:43Peterborough. Royals Facebook page, and in
- 3:46cricket. We got David Clarke here from
- 3:49Peterboro Town Cricket Club this week.
- 3:50And many of our local Cricket clubs will be hoping for better
- 3:54weather this weekend. As the season begins in Earnest,
- 3:57many clubs or their preseason fix fix just canceled last week,
- 4:01due to the wet weather, and groundsman, and able to get two
- 4:03pitches in a playable State. And we'll be hearing more from
- 4:07David about the season ahead for Peterboro town as they look to
- 4:10mount a challenge for the Northampton.
- 4:11Near League title and we've got posture covered this week as
- 4:16well. They had a tunable defeated
- 4:19Cambridge last week which I won't say much about, but we did
- 4:21bounce back with a 2-1 win at accrington on Tuesday, evening,
- 4:25Johnson, Clark, Harris and Efron Mason Clark, the goal scorers.
- 4:28And look ahead to a massive game against Ipswich tomorrow who are
- 4:31chasing for promotion and themselves as automatic as poss,
- 4:35chase a playoff berth, and we've got Barry fry and interview
- 4:41coming up very shortly. Shortly.
- 4:42Now he was talking to Kev Lawrence this week.
- 4:45Looking ahead to the Ipswich game and how important Darren
- 4:48Ferguson is to our playoff hopes.
- 4:51We're very, very lucky to have Dharma Cantonese, chairman and
- 4:55down Ferguson as manager. I mean, you know, they're both
- 5:01at for promotions at this league winning trip to Wembley when we
- 5:06won the Johnson phone, they're great double act.
- 5:11Lot of prey. John them, Dara their support,
- 5:14it Darrin inasmuch. As, in January, we had several
- 5:19big offers for several of our players.
- 5:22And Fergie said, I've come here to try to get a promotion to
- 5:26sell my best players. We got no chance.
- 5:28So, Tara didn't take any bit serious and turned them all
- 5:32down. So, you know, both have done,
- 5:36tremendous the Peterborough United.
- 5:38They don't get the credit they deserved in my opinion.
- 5:44Brilliant. That was very frightening.
- 5:45I'm talking about Dynamic, Antony and Darren Ferguson as we
- 5:48aim for the playoffs Posh, are currently fifth in the playoffs
- 5:52and hoping to cement that place. Albeit in a tough match against
- 5:55Ipswich town tomorrow at London Road and a 3 p.m. kickoff and
- 5:58those are your headlines. Thank you Davis.
- 6:00Again, always always lots going on in city and obviously Posh
- 6:04bury things are good words. They're about the manager and
- 6:06the chairman and the support that Focus has got from the
- 6:10chairman, and we're into final two weeks of season, effectively
- 6:13start with each switch. Tomorrow.
- 6:14So it's really? Yeah, crunch time.
- 6:16Crunch. Time.
- 6:17Crunch time. Yeah, after the defeat Cambridge
- 6:19United last Saturday which was less said the better about that
- 6:23one. I think we did bounce back on
- 6:24Tuesday night which is brilliant against accrington and if we can
- 6:27pick up a win against the nips of side who are in beaten I
- 6:30believe. Since January it'll be a tough
- 6:33task, they've been scoring goals Galore recently.
- 6:36So yeah, fingers crossed Posh can put in a performance more,
- 6:39akin to choose to act against accrington as opposed to To the
- 6:43one that they put out last Saturday against cabbage, United
- 6:46raced. Oh, so tight, there's any
- 6:47because, obviously, Bolton and Darby again, misfiring a little
- 6:50bit, should I say it? So that's that's given push a
- 6:52little bit of an advantage and Ipswich.
- 6:54As you mentioned there in automatic automatic promotion
- 6:58slot at the moment, Warner would want to retain it as well so it
- 7:00is just it is just so so tight. Yeah, neither need a team of
- 7:05want to add raw tomorrow thing that we the worst result
- 7:07possible. I think both teams will be
- 7:08gunning for those three points for their own differing reasons,
- 7:12as well. So yeah, it's a massive
- 7:13Saturday. And in Bolton actually at home
- 7:15for the next. They've got a game in hand on
- 7:17Posh as well and they are next three games starting tomorrow
- 7:19all at home. So yeah.
- 7:21It's crunch time of the season and has been for the last week
- 7:24few weeks, and Pasha, certainly in the, in the thick of it.
- 7:28And that's yeah. And that's football for you as
- 7:30well, just to mention as well. It's also the London Marathon
- 7:34this weekend. I forgot to mention that in my
- 7:35headlines. But yeah, good luck to
- 7:37everybody. Taking part in that many will be
- 7:39running for local causes close to their hearts.
- 7:41And from everybody here, at PC our Sports and production, Ecrf
- 7:44and we do wish them all the best taking on the 26.2 miles in
- 7:47London on Sunday. Fantastic.
- 7:49Thank you very much English, right?
- 7:50Let's take a short break and then we'll be switching Sports
- 7:52to Cricket and talking to our special guest David Clarke.

- 10:52Captain of the peaceful Town Cricket Club in for a preview of
- 10:56the forthcoming season. David good evening.
- 10:58Good evening, Jeff thanks. Having a back on Pleasure.
- 11:00It's always good to. Hey, it's your hat trick.
- 11:01Sho. Did you know that?
- 11:02Oh, is it? Yes, we don't have a match ball
- 11:06or Cricket or what have you but it's it is it we should give you
- 11:09golden. My course I'm sure he has a hat
- 11:10trick thing but yeah you're more than welcome anytime sir.
- 11:14Um, yeah, crickets obviously you retained.
- 11:18The captaincy have to start with first of all.
- 11:20Most and that's, I know you mentioned, before that you voted
- 11:23by your fellow Club, got mates, aren't you on that?
- 11:25Yeah, so that's literally and that's, it's actually my eighth
- 11:28Years first in Captain, which is a crazy thinking about it, but
- 11:32yeah, one more year. We'll see how we go.
- 11:34And is that what you said after the previous one?
- 11:39But yeah, and I think it for another year.
- 11:41Yeah, really enjoy it. Still enjoy playing.
- 11:43Contributing and helping develop the youngsters as well.
- 11:47So yeah, it's I get quite a lot from it and hopefully we can get
- 11:52our title back. Yeah.
- 11:53Absolutely. I don't mean obviously was three
- 11:54in a row. Were you hoping for an
- 11:56unprecedented four in a row? Wasn't quite to be what sort of,
- 12:01you know? How would you sum up last
- 12:02season? Yeah, it's a bit frustrating
- 12:04really last last year. I do hate making excuses but we
- 12:08had a few injuries. We have some poor availability
- 12:10sort of a crunch times in the season and At our Rivals finding
- 12:15and we had only three Frontline Bowlers and that game and we had
- 12:19to rely on three Bowlers, hadn't bold a ball in the pram or year
- 12:22and it in that kind of game. It was difficult and that sort
- 12:26of summed up the the latter part of the season for us really
- 12:28where we struggled a bit we lost a few games and in all honestly
- 12:32didn't deserve to win the league last year, finally, a great side
- 12:35and got some top players. So yeah, will be, you know,
- 12:38jostling with him again this year and hopefully going to get
- 12:41it back off them and you expect them to be the his Rivals.
- 12:44Yeah, I think so. I mean that good good strong set
- 12:48of lads who, you know, are availability every weeks,
- 12:50generally, pretty good. And that's a big thing at Club
- 12:52Cricket as you know, like, you know, being a bit snarky, they
- 12:56put the same sort of level 12 people out, you know, the things
- 12:58we've been doing quite well, the last few years and
- 13:02unfortunately, we just didn't get that right last year with,
- 13:03you know, no fault of our own. So yeah, I think for us it's all
- 13:08about being consistent and the players taking a bit more
- 13:11responsibility upon themselves on their own.
- 13:14Seems really. So yeah, a lot of emphasis going
- 13:16to be on, you know, guys taking, you know, a lot more
- 13:19responsibility and yeah, just leading the leading from the
- 13:24front really? Yeah.
- 13:25Absolutely. And where is Finding Nemo.
- 13:28By the way. Part of myself, where is the
- 13:30village in Northampton? Yeah, sure.
- 13:34Obviously, I don't need a live-in, finding a beautiful
- 13:38ground. Put on the nice Crown Jewel play
- 13:40at. Yeah, I'm in terms of
- 13:41picturesque and a nice wicked as well.
- 13:43So oh yeah, everyone quite enjoys paying their.
- 13:45Yeah, absolutely. And your first game against them
- 13:48is in a few weeks time, isn't it?
- 13:50Do ya think you're saying early June?
- 13:51Yeah, yeah. So we got them again.
- 13:53We got think about the last game of the season as well, so it
- 13:55could be, it could be interesting.
- 13:56So we'll see how it goes. Try to decide are so.
- 13:59So how's the preparation going for the new season?
- 14:01So, yeah, that's been all right, actually managed to get game in
- 14:04last weekend, play Sunday. Paid, unless to share with head
- 14:07against Langton CC, which credit to them got the game on.
- 14:11You're quite lucky in the respect that they had a game.
- 14:13Wait, before in the village cup or the S did, and they had a
- 14:18picture of a sort of ready and covered, and we managed to get
- 14:22games bit wet, then get me wrong.
- 14:23But we as great to get out there and you know, a lot of sides
- 14:26have not been able to get out there, this this preseason and
- 14:29we're a club that lots of play three or four games if we can.
- 14:32But you're getting out there that once was probably hopefully
- 14:34prove quite valuable. Yeah, brilliant.
- 14:37How's the squad looking obviously most notably I guess
- 14:39is the addition of Z10 Manzo from Market deeping me let's
- 14:43just Club. Yeah.
- 14:44It's, which is easy, be legally from links to know that.
- 14:47Yeah. And obviously had a great season
- 14:49deep in last season's? Yeah, he's good.
- 14:51Addition any? Yeah, that is absolutely brings
- 14:54up something a bit different to our team.
- 14:55He's quite Dynamic and he hits the ball a long way.
- 14:59He doesn't ask your name. Yeah we've seen him a few over
- 15:01the villagers the thing. So you know with us our Lads you
- 15:06know he brings us something a little bit different especially
- 15:08sort of number 45. We're going to back and
- 15:11especially in the 2020 and the national knockout.
- 15:13To think it'll prove really valuable.
- 15:15If he gets in Britain gate, it could be quite hard for them to
- 15:18get out and if he's going to be banging of the light.
- 15:20So Josh and Nick, it could be great to watch it some points in
- 15:23the season. So exciting, isn't it?
- 15:25So I say something different. What was the kind of thinking
- 15:28behind that? Well, yet his kids play at the
- 15:30club, so they play down at on the Friday nights.
- 15:35You know, his mates, have quite a lot of the lads in the club.
- 15:39Yeah, I'm just wanted to play in a bit of a challenge, really and
- 15:42play and play with us. So you got it.
- 15:43Green there as well. Another X deeping.
- 15:45Yes. Come up through the ranks at the
- 15:47thing in DTF. Looking forward to this is s
- 15:51what s season with Town. Yeah.
- 15:52I joined us halfway through last year from Loughborough.
- 15:55Yeah. Alexander left-hander but he's
- 15:58been born in pretty. Wild winter in Australia.
- 16:00So, yeah, we're really looking forward to watching him play
- 16:03this year because he, you know, he's had a full winter and he
- 16:07had it with, you know, a decent season by all accounts in
- 16:08Australia, and it's about bowling against.
- 16:11He didn't do much worse last year.
- 16:12Said a bit of an injury, but yeah.
- 16:14Is backfiring and yeah, we're looking forward to seeing a very
- 16:17useful all-rounder. Yeah.
- 16:19Hit the ball hard obviously. Left-handed.
- 16:20Yeah. From an opening or number three
- 16:22perhaps and then can open the polling as well.
- 16:23Pretend, yeah. It's like having a new player
- 16:25especially the ball so yeah, he's going to be one to watch
- 16:28for us to see. They're definitely fantastic any
- 16:31other editions discarding. Any other sort of changes to of
- 16:34note to mention oh I lost Anna Muhammad.
- 16:36He's gone back to Brick stock in our league.
- 16:39So unfortunately we'll miss Danny.
- 16:42Let's say Nick is bowling more covers Us in that respect with
- 16:46the ball. Not you've got see China in and
- 16:48we're going to miss study Salim for a bit of the Season as well
- 16:52as Dentistry course up in Manchester so he's going to
- 16:55probably start playing and July time.
- 16:58So yeah, there's all the notable absences really from us.
- 17:02But as I say, we've got quite a lot of depth and strength and
- 17:05depth, and hopefully we can use that strength and depth to our
- 17:08advantage issue, Scoot, and any sort of what about the pathway
- 17:11from the youth and sort of the second.
- 17:13So forth is a yeah promising sort of talent coming through.
- 17:16There's a lot of the youngsters going to have to pay in the to
- 17:18this year. That's a you know that's
- 17:21actually happening tomorrow because we're missing a few
- 17:24tomorrow. So yeah they're going to have to
- 17:26step up and play in the 2's will be really good for us.
- 17:29It's division one Cricket, it's tough cricket and there's no
- 17:33better place to learn and Cricket playing against the team
- 17:35of relegated from our league. First next year.
- 17:37I'm sorry, tomorrow in Russian town, and they've got their
- 17:40overseas back who's prolific in the pram.
- 17:42So that's going to be interesting.
- 17:44Division one. Yeah.
- 17:45Unbelievable believable and you're talking about your the
- 17:48length of your captaincy, you know, you're in the right season
- 17:51and that Legacy that you're going to leave in terms of
- 17:54development of the club. Would you say the youth element
- 17:56of it? Is something that you'll will be
- 17:58proud of that. You look back on it in the
- 17:59season. Yeah.
- 18:00If you don't do a night. Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:02I think you look at the players have gone on not just to play
- 18:06well in the first team but in the second team you know big
- 18:08parts of getting the team up to division.
- 18:09One winning the Prem you know, when we won the pram in 29 In
- 18:132020, most of the pages that come up through the youth ranks.
- 18:16And for me, it's nothing. We spoke about this before on
- 18:18the show, it's nothing better than seeing youngsters who've
- 18:21come through the ranks, that contributed to your teams and
- 18:23then go on to play for cams and then hire as well.
- 18:27Getting second team games for the likes of northants, or, or
- 18:30less this year, or age group Cricket for England, which are
- 18:34few of them done in the past as well.
- 18:35So, yeah, we really, really like the pathway and really sort of
- 18:39passionate about getting players and giving them the opportunity
- 18:41to play and go to that next level.
- 18:43And It's actually next close debut for cancer.
- 18:45So yeah, just seen that social and mentioned gonna play for
- 18:48makes his debut for comes in the T20 is on Sunday so that's great
- 18:51to see as one and only Muhammad's and that thanks
- 18:53bangs. Well yeah.
- 18:54Well yeah. A couple of strong Paper Town
- 18:57connections there. Exactly.
- 18:58Yeah. Yeah that's really good news.
- 19:00It like say it's in terms of Legacy.
- 19:03I don't know if they do, It's Tricky one.
- 19:06Let's hope your title. I probably will after we looked
- 19:08for look at that in, you know, where I stopped playing.
- 19:10But you know, I think the main thing for me is Bringing women
- 19:14bring players in, make sure they feel welcome, make sure they
- 19:18feel really comfortable in the environment as a, really big
- 19:20thing for me and you have all the right sort of characters and
- 19:24personalities within your team. It does a lot in terms of
- 19:28breeding success. And that Spirit, you know,
- 19:30especially in tough times during the course of a long day in the
- 19:32field, for example, or on a cold rainy day, potentially just
- 19:36having that mental battle that it.
- 19:38Yeah. So about game is all about the
- 19:40people really, you know, it's if you know, you're spending a long
- 19:43time, I mean these guys on the field and all season traveling
- 19:45and yes really important to get that sort of Team cohesion,
- 19:49right. And that goes a long way to sort
- 19:52of set. The success we've had in the
- 19:53last sort of five or six years. Yeah, it's about like say is
- 19:57gelling the personalities and then in the characters in that
- 19:59dressing room, not just a technical abilities and
- 20:02initially the battle isn't it? That's it.
- 20:04Yeah. Playing as a team that's the
- 20:06main thing, you know, we always talk about how we want to be a
- 20:08good team and not team of individuals.
- 20:11So, yeah, that's a big thing for us.
- 20:13In terms of our Mentality really?
- 20:15Yeah. Brilliant.
- 20:16In terms of squad health and that everyone looking good and
- 20:19you may wish to mention about the lab going off to do his
- 20:21Dentistry but you have not any injuries or any everyone's
- 20:24looking in. Good shape.
- 20:24Yeah. No.
- 20:25We'll all looking alright. Yeah.
- 20:27Yeah. If you stiff bodies after the
- 20:28game Someday, I'm gonna live. Yeah.
- 20:32Everyone's raring to go tomorrow and hopefully area Blank Stare
- 20:35at the weather for it and you get also at half decent start?
- 20:39Yeah absolutely first game at home kissing Barry.
- 20:43Yes. These are start I guess for use
- 20:45in terms of yeah from an opponent perspective, no
- 20:47disrespect to them but you fancy chances.
- 20:50Yeah I think so. If we play well, I think we
- 20:52should put in a good performance.
- 20:55They're quite a good side of got a few recruits.
- 20:58I've got an overseas, I've got down Gogh son's pain from limb.
- 21:01He who paid a rushed in last year.
- 21:04So, yeah, we know quite a few of their players and they're good
- 21:06lads as well. So yeah, there's no easy games.
- 21:09Really have through down to 10 teams in our league.
- 21:13He used to have a The Freebase DNA hit both teams.
- 21:16This be some games with audio, definitely win this game, but
- 21:20the moment in the sort of 10 team structure, it's a lot more
- 21:24competitive and I think that's what we found the last few
- 21:26years. It's been, it's been a bit more.
- 21:29The games have been closer and you know, got two different
- 21:32formats but win lose draw which we start tomorrow and whites and
- 21:34Red Bull and then second off the season we go to the cutter kit
- 21:38and pink ball win-lose. So I think those two sort of
- 21:41changes. So the number of teams and the
- 21:43Format of really strengthen the league.
- 21:46Definitely. Okay.
- 21:47Good stuff. We'll hear more about that in a
- 21:49minute because it'd be interesting.
- 21:49Know why that's changed. Joe's changes have occurred but
- 21:52we'll need to take a short break.

- 23:14Welcome back to the PCR Sports show here with you.
- 23:17Every Friday, 627, bring you all everything.
- 23:20Local around the patch to do with sports or sporting clubs
- 23:24and local stars and figure which we've got on stars in the studio
- 23:27with us this evening. David Clarke captain from the
- 23:30petition from the Peterboro Town Cricket Club just been speaking
- 23:33about preparation for the new season and and summing up the
- 23:37events of last season as well and just talk about the Changes
- 23:40in the league format and some of the way, the competition will
- 23:44play out this year. So the Region's be reduced from
- 23:4712 to 2 10. You were saying and obviously in
- 23:50terms of win-lose draw and win-lose, there's a split
- 23:53between the start and the end of the seat as well.
- 23:55What's the, what's the thinking behind that from from the from
- 23:57the League's? I think it's more what the
- 23:59players want in terms of the feedback that we got from the
- 24:02players that they think is the end of the 2019 season or 2020
- 24:06seasoned criminal was but in terms of figure out what you
- 24:09know, what will keep Sighs in the game.
- 24:11What's best for the game? What other ECB Premier League's
- 24:14doing? Are they doing a similar thing?
- 24:16What's working? What's not?
- 24:18So went through sort of a quite a long process to go through,
- 24:21you know, what would work for our league?
- 24:24And like it's like, says work pretty well.
- 24:27It gives you no different, you know, it gets to what you draw
- 24:30element part of it because I think a lot of people do like
- 24:32that and you got really work for you win but also in the second
- 24:36half of season, it's more more entertainment, you got more runs
- 24:39balls flying off the bat of the Iqbal wickets a better obviously
- 24:42later in the summer. So yeah, breed some good cricket
- 24:45and in the middle of our league was quite unique.
- 24:48I think we have a twenty20 competitions as well.
- 24:50So we have a two or three week break in June July, where we
- 24:54just stop all the cricket and play twenty20 cricket and that's
- 24:57on a Saturday and then you place all around Robbins with between
- 25:01a few teams and yet you qualify for finals day.
- 25:03Again, on a Saturday is great for a club, you can get your bar
- 25:06open, you can get some catering down and stuff, and make it a
- 25:08big day. So yeah, that's that's going to
- 25:12be really exciting that as well part of part of the season.
- 25:15So yeah, it's worked pretty well.
- 25:16The last couple of couple of years and I will be surprised
- 25:20seeing more and more leagues during the 2020 in the middle of
- 25:23season because you know how hard it is on a Tuesday night to get
- 25:26a team out at 6:30 with the fading light 20, 30 miles, an
- 25:30example of when people are working.
- 25:31Yeah, it's yeah, it's sort of trying to find that solution
- 25:34where we can get the best of both really.
- 25:36But what we found is that some of the teams were quite weak and
- 25:39in the in the midweek stuff or even we moved to Sundays because
- 25:42people aren't available. So now it gives the, you know,
- 25:45the best opportunity for the for the best Cricket to be played
- 25:49and then you know the next round is on the national stage is
- 25:52where we face. You're the winners of other
- 25:54leagues so yeah, that's always something will be aspiring to
- 25:57do. Yeah.
- 25:58Excellent. And and is that something that's
- 26:00reflected across other leagues? Or was it just particular to the
- 26:03north ants? The mid Premier?
- 26:05Yeah, the mid-season T20 is just for us.
- 26:07I think it might be a couple more but I think others They're
- 26:10either on Sunday, round robin or midweek T20 on a Tuesday night,
- 26:14for example. So yeah, we're quite unique in
- 26:17that respect. So you're like I said, it might
- 26:20be something that other leaks might adopt down down the line,
- 26:22potentially, if they see it works quite well, but yeah, it's
- 26:27it's exciting time. And yeah, we'll be doing our
- 26:30best cause finding the double last year we were doing our best
- 26:32to try and get that back off of because I was just, let's kind
- 26:35of led me nicely into the asking, you what?
- 26:36The aims for the season are really is and obviously given In
- 26:40the last few years and the success ultimately, you want to
- 26:42win everything and win every game you play in.
- 26:44But is that the effectively what you're aiming for me is that you
- 26:48just go into every game looking for the win?
- 26:51Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 26:52We know the way you want to play cricket we want to we want to
- 26:54win on a play, hard want to play fair and respectful opposition
- 26:58and do it the right way. And that's a big thing for me
- 27:00and our our team is playing the right way and in the right
- 27:03Spirit but also you can you know let your Cricut do the talking
- 27:07on the field as well. So yeah, that's All about for
- 27:10us, trying to win as many games we can.
- 27:13And if we don't win our game delightfully, we've you know,
- 27:15put the effort in to show that you know, given a good guy and
- 27:19that's all you can ask for as a captain really.
- 27:22So yeah, that's that's going to be the mentality about.
- 27:24Yeah, probably mention later on in the show we've got a few big
- 27:26events at the club this year so the be a lot of focus on that as
- 27:29well as we get closer to sort of, June July time.
- 27:33So yeah, the committee, we're going to be quite quite busy and
- 27:36a lot of volunteers are going to have to do some long shifts.
- 27:40Later on in the summer. So that we get let's talk about
- 27:42now is because I was gonna bring them up anyway but years as
- 27:44you've mentioned them chairman Brian.
- 27:46Howard is on with Kevin Lawrence.
- 27:47Yes this is the morning actually and the breakfast show talking
- 27:50about the the charity matching particular.
- 27:53PCA England Legends, charity match on the Friday, the 28th of
- 27:56July. Yeah to in Aid of improving
- 27:59certain facilities at the club Pavilion and Patio as he is
- 28:03known as yes and to raise money for Great Ormond Street as well.
- 28:06So that's one of those table. Probably one of the events you
- 28:08talk about that coming up in the summer.
- 28:09Yeah. Sedate that weekend for us is a
- 28:11big one. So as you say on the 28th of
- 28:13July we host it PCA England Legends down at Bretton gate,
- 28:18we've been told three players so far.
- 28:20So Alex tutor. We've got some it Patel and the
- 28:24other one I can announce is Adam Holly Oak as well.
- 28:28So there are three at the moment.
- 28:30So we're looking forward to having 11, England Legends down
- 28:33at the gate, and going to do some core processor, tality in
- 28:37the in a VIP, Marky where they sit on the table.
- 28:40Abel's and be part of the the afternoon, with the guests and
- 28:42interact and and also be part of the juniors in the morning as
- 28:45well as they go around. All the groups and lend some
- 28:48tips and run a few little drills for them as well.
- 28:50So I think that'd be really good for for our Juniors but yeah for
- 28:54us it's a big Community event. We want to be, you want everyone
- 28:57in Peterborough to come down and watch this game because I think
- 29:00it's a great opportunity to come and watch them some former past
- 29:03stars of England player T20. And yeah, be a great test for
- 29:08the lads and a really good game to be involved in a Player as
- 29:10well. So, yeah, we're all looking
- 29:12forward to it and yeah, hopefully, I'll be a great day.
- 29:15Sounds exciting. It really does.
- 29:17And it's, you know, I think that's the thing about Peter
- 29:19Italians always something something standout event, taking
- 29:23place every year, in the other County game last year.
- 29:25This obviously this year, so it's always something other than
- 29:28just the day-to-day Cricket going on, isn't there the club
- 29:30in his? That's great to see as well?
- 29:32I mean, later on that week and we host northamptonshire.
- 29:35So Cambridge, have you northamptonshire in in the NCCA
- 29:39showcase game? So on that day of the, some
- 29:41showcase games going around across the country and we're
- 29:45lucky enough to host the Cambridge and northants game and
- 29:47north on 7th. Played a row since like 20 years
- 29:50ago. Yeah, yeah, 20 30 years ago.
- 29:52So, yeah, it's great to have them back in some professionals
- 29:56down, pain, or ground and it shows, you know how far we've
- 29:59come as a clubbing and in terms of hosting an event like that
- 30:02our picture facility and hopefully we know we've got the
- 30:07the volunteer structure in place on the day to make sure Run
- 30:10smoothly Grandma's got his job, cut out and they put, yeah.
- 30:17So am I right in thinking North hands?
- 30:18Going back a good, many years. No, thanks were once actually.
- 30:23Occupies of that of that of the pit of the ground, at Brown
- 30:25gaiters are their home? It was actually caught on road.
- 30:28Back in the 70s. Looking out my road as well.
- 30:31Yeah, today's the grounds. Yeah.
- 30:34So, Peterboro Town. Well, picture of time.
- 30:36Middle Fan's perspective. Yeah.
- 30:38Planning that late for a number of years.
- 30:39Yeah, Yeah, and all that ants are no strangers to this County.
- 30:42Perhaps not as much in recent years but back in the day they
- 30:46were used to be a real strong history of northants playing
- 30:48their county cricket in Peterborough.
- 30:50Yeah. When when Peter was part of
- 30:52Cambridge, sorry part of North have.
- 30:53Yeah, yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:55So there's there's a good nostalgic.
- 30:57Element is right. There is yeah, the old Murr
- 30:59first is new in terms of Cambridge reverses
- 31:00northamptonshire as far as the absolute Club is concerned.
- 31:02Yeah. And hopefully we'll have a
- 31:03couple of players representing our club against North and so it
- 31:06should be great to see. And again it will be that a
- 31:09ticket. Event that one as a minor County
- 31:13showcase game. So tickets are available to buy
- 31:15online for that game on the North answer website.
- 31:19If people want to come down but yeah hopefully that'll be a good
- 31:23weekend of weather. Let's hope so.
- 31:25We've got that and I'll see we've got like to say we have
- 31:27got the the three-day County game later on in the summer in
- 31:30August, where cams host Cumbria. And that's the 20th of August
- 31:3421st and 22nd and then later on in the summer, we host for the
- 31:38first time North sounds too. Is it Place Sussex and afford a
- 31:42game? So, again, our grounds is going
- 31:43to work out, not just preparing their game, but obviously for
- 31:46our own games as well. So it's gonna be a busy time of
- 31:50the gate busy time on the ground, and that's what you want
- 31:53to see. Really, you know, the club.
- 31:55I was gonna say, actually, get over there, is there, is that
- 31:57wear and tear on the ground? Obviously, at the groundsman,
- 32:00the grounds people need to prepare it obviously for the
- 32:02Showcase games because you've probably got there.
- 32:05I say players of a certain caliber coming to play.
- 32:08So you, there's an expectation to have a ground in certain But
- 32:11potentially, you don't want that to detriment you in terms of
- 32:13your drive to win, titles, this year, either did absolutely.
- 32:16Yeah, gotta get that balance. Right?
- 32:17And I think we've, I think Gary's in Marcus who pitches for
- 32:20those two that for that weekend they're like I say is there's a
- 32:24great job. Anyway.
- 32:24So I'm pretty confident. He'll you know, he'll be fine
- 32:27and in terms of propeller is workload and his preparation
- 32:30time for the normal, you know, Pete was down fixtures.
- 32:35So, yeah, hopefully, yeah. Like I say, we do get some good
- 32:38wickets as well because You don't you should save them for
- 32:41the PCA and North answer. Yeah, that's been really good.
- 32:44The last couple of years so all last five or six years since
- 32:47Gary's taken over on the ground. So yeah.
- 32:50Hopefully similar some of the last time, I'll be great in
- 32:53terms of whether so yeah, hopefully we can have a good
- 32:57summer of cricket and looking forward to having many, many
- 33:00people down as possible at the club.
- 33:02Yeah, absolutely. Just stepping back to the
- 33:04charity game that the, with the Legend.
- 33:06So it's obviously to improve facilities.
- 33:10Cup. What's the plan with the club in
- 33:12terms of to? What's the refurbishment plans
- 33:15that yes, in the last couple of years, we've done quite a lot.
- 33:18In terms of inside, we've improved like, the foyer we've
- 33:21done down the changing rooms and of the toilets with various
- 33:24grants and things like that, which has been really good
- 33:26because it's quite dated building and we want to sort of
- 33:30reflect that in terms of the kind of sports club, we are not
- 33:34just Cricket but also all the other sports and make it more of
- 33:38a welcoming environment. And the think the out Door space
- 33:40is one where the patio looks very 1970s.
- 33:43You know it needs updating and there's no if you go down in the
- 33:46summer when there's no Marquis ER there's actually no cover for
- 33:50from the Sun on a hot hot day. So now we're really place to get
- 33:54shaved to get shade on the ground so the idea would be to
- 33:57get some sort of either semi-permanent or permanent
- 34:01Roofing structure from The Pavilion going over the patio
- 34:04area and also refurb in the patio as well.
- 34:07So obviously it's going to benefit.
- 34:10The whole planets Cricket, the whole club, the community
- 34:12members, guess you coming come to the club.
- 34:15Also, we're looking to raise money for Great Ormond Street
- 34:17Hospital, charity as well, which is, it's quite sad story.
- 34:21It's it relates to one of our members whose sister sadly
- 34:26passed away last winter and I'll be more details on the store at
- 34:31the full story of that coming out in the next couple of weeks.
- 34:34But our charity of choice for 2023 is going to be the Great
- 34:37Ormond Street Hospital charity. Which will be raising funds for
- 34:41at the PCA game as well but also various other fundraising events
- 34:46at the club throughout the year. So that's going to be, you know,
- 34:50it's really important one for us and quite close to people's
- 34:53hearts of the club which hopefully people can get behind.
- 34:56Yeah absolutely. Fantastic causes to raise money
- 34:58for. So in terms of the funding
- 35:00needed for the for the facilities Improvement is there
- 35:03a target funds Target amount. You're looking to achieve from
- 35:07if so. Are you have to suck it up?
- 35:08And I'm out. So therefore if Listeners out
- 35:10there that that maybe want to contribute in other ways they
- 35:12can do. Absolutely.
- 35:14That's that'd be brilliant. If they could we've got no
- 35:16figure in mind. It's hard to say you know cost
- 35:18gonna have a builder charges these days.
- 35:22Yeah. Material going up all the time.
- 35:23So yeah I think the main sort of thing for us we'll be raising
- 35:27from the court hospitality and getting businesses down who
- 35:31linked to you like the sports who are linked to the club link
- 35:34to Peterborough area Cambridgeshire and want to a
- 35:38really good afternoon out of the cricket.
- 35:40Are they can bring 9 or 10 of their, their employees, or
- 35:43customers, or, you know, stakeholders, whoever down to
- 35:46the down to the ground and enjoy some entertainment, and
- 35:49Hospitality some auctions and, you know, a bit of fun and I
- 35:54three-course meal. So, yeah, that's going to be the
- 35:57big game for us in the biggest challenge is to get those tables
- 36:00old. So yeah, we're all the main
- 36:03Hospitality stuff is going out to businesses in the next week
- 36:05or so. But yeah, I would say any
- 36:08businesses want to get involved? On the PC a legend is day.
- 36:12Yeah, do get in touch with us on our social media.
- 36:14Okay. So basically our search for
- 36:16Peter, a town, either on Google or through social media and just
- 36:19get in. Touch that one.
- 36:19Yeah, just get in touch like that or you can drop us an email
- 36:22Paper Town CC at Hotmail dot koike.
- 36:25Fantastic. Good.
- 36:25If you're listening out there and you want to help out support
- 36:28the club, then do that. Just get in touch and David or
- 36:31somebody from the club, or speech about that and you can
- 36:34get involved. So fantastic stuff right time to

- 39:04Welcome back to the PCR Sports show here on piece.
- 39:07Rfm, if you've missed any of the show, you can listen back to it
- 39:10after 7 p.m. If you go back up, if you go
- 39:11onto our website, PCR, FM, .co.uk and press to listen,
- 39:15again, option and you can catch up on Tonight Show is been a
- 39:18brilliant show so far. We David Clarke captain from the
- 39:21Peterborough Town, Quick Club on us telling us about the new
- 39:24season and events at the club and what's going to be happening
- 39:28throughout the summer. So it's a great show so far.
- 39:30So don't if you have missed it, then do go back and and listen.
- 39:33To it. So we just talked about the
- 39:35fundraising event that's taking place at the club in the summer
- 39:3928th of July game against the PCA England Legends to raise
- 39:44money for Club facilities and the Great Ormond Street.
- 39:47Children's Hospital. I guess other ways to raise
- 39:51money is through merchandising is it from?
- 39:53We saw the snazzy third shirt in the studio before the show
- 39:56started and a photo that we going up later on our social.
- 39:59So there's just different ways to try and sort of bring some in
- 40:03Means it's not in there. Yeah, absolutely our club shops
- 40:06available. So yeah, we had a few people,
- 40:08not even players are members of bought a few bits of Chris, who
- 40:10does the kite kit, which is brilliant.
- 40:14So yeah, he's a, he's done a great job for us in producing
- 40:16our kit. And yeah, if we can raise a bit
- 40:18more money, that way even better because he does actually do the
- 40:22hockey club as well. So, any sales you make through
- 40:25that go, and they, he makes a contribution back into the
- 40:28picture and for the, for the hockey, as well.
- 40:30So it all comes back into the club in some way.
- 40:33So, it's Great clicks, not on the third kit.
- 40:35If I had to describe it would be kind of a passively rainbow
- 40:39rainbow it sort of Blended colored shirt.
- 40:42Yeah. It's like, last was fully a good
- 40:44description. Yeah.
- 40:46Wait. Till I see him.
- 40:47I'm not a fan of the modern game.
- 40:53Shall we say modern way now? Isn't it now?
- 40:56Absolutely, I think a lot of it's been quite popular.
- 41:00Yeah, the kids enjoy it. It's quite nice.
- 41:02It's bit different than that. Polly.
- 41:04Why people like? It's absolutely talking to kids,
- 41:08let's just chat about the youth side of the club and dynamos
- 41:12Friday night, competitions. So yeah.
- 41:15How's that looking? And obviously, was we mentioned
- 41:16earlier in the show, with me that's mentioned.
- 41:18You've been quite pivotal in the way, the youth setups been
- 41:21progressing. The last few years.
- 41:22Yes, a big part of our club, you know?
- 41:24So we start tonight with our Junior set up.
- 41:28So, I under 911s, their teens and 15 is will be down there
- 41:31tonight right now. And then going into the summer.
- 41:35So the third of May, I believe, sorry, 5th of May Friday 5th of
- 41:39May are all stars program starts, which is needs to be
- 41:42initiative that runs for eight weeks.
- 41:45The kids, you sign up getting freaked.
- 41:47It you're putting no. That's nearly sure.
- 41:48They sign up they get Kit. They get the bat the shirt and
- 41:51they take part in. You know, some really fun
- 41:54activities relating to Cricket to get them into the sport.
- 41:57And then the same day on Friday, the 5th of May are dynamos
- 42:01girls-only program starts. So Been running the last couple
- 42:04of years, for girls only between age 8, and 8, Sr 8, and 11,
- 42:09that's been really successful. And we've got a couple of
- 42:12coaches who have been running that really well.
- 42:14The last couple of years and we're looking forward to seeing
- 42:16that grow and developing them out of sort of young females at
- 42:20playing the game as well. So yes, exciting time.
- 42:24So the I'll say that the dynamos and the All-Star start on the
- 42:275th of May. And yeah, the the junior program
- 42:30she starts tonight and runs until the end of September.
- 42:32Yeah. And you've got HK Oops, as well,
- 42:34having age group Cricket as well from elevens all the way up to
- 42:3618. So I think it is.
- 42:37Yeah, yeah. Which just shows the way the
- 42:42club's built, if that makes sense, you know, you've got that
- 42:44stable base and that progression through the ranks, makes it a
- 42:48positive for the club, for the first team of second team that
- 42:50you've just been talking about. Ya know, it does it mean Inderal
- 42:53Evans? Played a couple of indoor
- 42:54tournaments in the in the winter and they have enjoyed their
- 42:57crickets? Oh yeah.
- 42:58Like you say in the 911s 13 will be starting to fix your soon.
- 43:03Either a midweek. Go on Sundays.
- 43:06So yeah, we'll be posting on our social media what's, you know,
- 43:08going on each week at the club, in terms of the junior fixtures,
- 43:12as well as a senior fixtures, which will be great.
- 43:15And like that goes all the way up to this or the end of 15 and
- 43:17a 17 s. And I'm not sure if there's
- 43:19under-19 competition happening again this year, that's always
- 43:21good. Fun, for the under-19s as well.
- 43:25So yeah, the the more kids we see down the club playing
- 43:28Cricket enjoying crickets main thing.
- 43:30And we had 115 kids down at one point last year.
- 43:33We're in the height of Summer, which is brilliant to see,
- 43:37probably be less than night of the weather.
- 43:40Hopefully if you be down there enjoying their cricket and yeah,
- 43:43as we go into a big summer of cricket in terms of the ashes
- 43:46starting in June, we're looking forward to that as well.
- 43:49So, do you think Kim the way the hundreds developed the last
- 43:53couple of years side, that knock-on effect, a junior
- 43:56Cricket? Or is it a case of brother
- 43:59sisters that are older perhaps being brought into the game to
- 44:02their parents? It makes because, you know,
- 44:05we've talked about adult Cricket for example, numbers, struggling
- 44:08in terms of availability, and you need that conveyor belt of
- 44:13Juniors and talent coming through in that way as well.
- 44:15You do you need strong structures at junior level, you
- 44:18know, like sending nines Levin's 13g key areas and keeping them
- 44:22involved at sort of 15 to 17 is a real challenge.
- 44:24That's the that's the age groups.
- 44:25I think you've probably lose the children.
- 44:27Yeah, exams University, for example.
- 44:29Yeah. And you know, other interest
- 44:31coming, you know, the sports, you know, Whether they want to
- 44:34study more or yeah, it's a bit of a challenge.
- 44:36So between sort of 15 and 18, it's quite a challenge to keep
- 44:39than playing and getting them into sort of third second team
- 44:41first team. But yeah, like I said, I think
- 44:43the hundreds I think Thunder has been actually quite good in
- 44:45terms of getting kids and the interest involved with the game,
- 44:50you know getting the kids down watching cricket and now some
- 44:52people might not be your fan of the format tradition.
- 44:55It's like they're you know like the 2020 more than the 100 but I
- 44:58think in terms of getting you know the audience out there are
- 45:01more kids more girls, more women, Watching the game, I
- 45:04think it's great but yeah, just get a bit of stick the hundred
- 45:10and it's all part of supposed of.
- 45:11Yes. It's the sport element as well
- 45:13but it's about their own personal development as well.
- 45:15Isn't it coming into sort of a their peers and other
- 45:18environments and that's what sport does as well.
- 45:21And that's the facility that you're providing their
- 45:23absolutely yeah. It's all about, you know,
- 45:24working as a team you can learn so much from different people at
- 45:27the club. You know you networking as you
- 45:29get older and older you realize the importance of networking.
- 45:32So yeah. It's a, we spend a lot of time
- 45:34together so you get used to each other and it people's habits and
- 45:39stuff and juniors will find that grown up with each other playing
- 45:42from under 922 under-17. They'll enjoy, you know, they'll
- 45:45create some really good friendships from way you can use
- 45:48sport as white finish for. Yeah.
- 45:49Probably, you know, go and play tennis or go for a bike ride or
- 45:53whatever is as a friendship group, you know?
- 45:56And that's what it's all about at the end of the day.
- 45:58Yeah, absolutely. It's a difference creates a
- 46:00different friendship. Groups of ones are perhaps used
- 46:02to being at school or The street or whatever is another sort of
- 46:06opening of another social Arenas.
- 46:07Yeah. It was the meaning of lots of
- 46:09different schools at one place particular on a Friday night for
- 46:12our guys. So yeah, be sort of interaction
- 46:15with kids from other schools and yeah.
- 46:19So it's all in all. It's a good thing for it.
- 46:20And if there's kids listening, now, obviously or parents are
- 46:23listening and they want their kids to probably look into
- 46:25Cricket. How would they get in touch with
- 46:27a club bought that? I need to do is either open days
- 46:29or can I just kind of get in touch and come along Tuesday or
- 46:31Friday evening? Yeah, that'd be the best thing
- 46:32that's get in touch. Okay.
- 46:33Either by email or just through our website or contact form on
- 46:37our website and that would be the best way to get involved and
- 46:39then come down on a Friday night.
- 46:42And yeah, the coach will take you in whichever age group or
- 46:46child. It is in really.
- 46:47So you're more than welcome. Excellent.
- 46:49And I know that if you search Peterboro Town Cricket Club or
- 46:51even Peter, return CC, it comes up on Google Rider top.
- 46:54So that's all you need to search for.
- 46:55And then, like David said, just get in touch through the website
- 46:57and and they'll do the rest. So talk about the history of the
- 47:02club will not talk about it, but I want to Start to about
- 47:04history, the club. We've got a few minutes left
- 47:07Brian. Howard mentioned on the
- 47:09interviewee Kevlar was yesterday, that, that there's
- 47:11been history. Now, charted back to the 1850s
- 47:14for the club, which is unbelievable, isn't it?
- 47:16Oh, that's incredible. Yeah, it's begins Brian.
- 47:18He said, is uncovered. Some some really top players,
- 47:21you've played, you know, not just for Peterborough, but for
- 47:24northamptonshire and play some really high representative
- 47:27Cricket. So be really good to get some
- 47:29more information from, you know, either the archives or Or people
- 47:34that know people that might have some old photos or, you know,
- 47:39new playbook, subscribe things, yeah, cuttings anything like
- 47:43that please do get in touch with us because that would be really,
- 47:45really good to have. And I think down the line we
- 47:47want to have a sort of page or somewhere at the club where
- 47:50we've got all that history, dating back to the night 1850
- 47:53because I think will be really interesting for us to find that
- 47:57out love. Yeah.
- 47:58Because I think it's a piece of a town would make a case to
- 48:00potentially be the oldest sporting club in the city.
- 48:02Then I would imagine Wrecked, the Rugby Club have got some
- 48:05records around the 1870s, maybe 1880s on our, but ya know,
- 48:10everybody and it's all about. Yeah, the history is really
- 48:12getting. Got respect the history of the,
- 48:14the of the sport and of the club.
- 48:16It's brilliant. Really that the guys have found
- 48:18this out and continue to find this out, and I'll be looking
- 48:22back at some of the old faces, the gate, the games going on
- 48:24across Thorn Road. It's great seeing it right in
- 48:27the city centre. And I think there's a couple of
- 48:30International Teams at New Zealand and Pakistan, both
- 48:32played their against North ants. As well.
- 48:34So it's brilliant really seeing those old clippings and some old
- 48:38photos that have been around and the records, you can actually go
- 48:41back and look at them on online that those kind of top players
- 48:45have been playing in Peterborough.
- 48:46So, yeah, it's really interesting, fantastic.
- 48:48Well, good luck with that. And it would that be kind of Pop
- 48:50information published on the website, eventually, it will be
- 48:52a plan. Yeah.
- 48:53Look published on the website and then maybe have a sort of
- 48:57wall area at the club or something, but yeah.
- 48:59Well, we'll keep everyone up to date with that and yeah, I'm
- 49:02sure a lot of people Especially pay for peace, where in the
- 49:05past, or had some connection with the club will find quite
- 49:07interesting. Fantastic.
- 49:09Well, David, it comes the end of our show and fortunately, but
- 49:11it's been as always always a pleasure to have you on the show
- 49:13and get an update from you and wishing you and the club, and
- 49:16everyone involved, all the best for the season.
- 49:18Obviously, grab that title back for the city.
- 49:21Yeah. Thanks very much.
- 49:22And, obviously good luck with the continued efforts with the
- 49:25fundraising as well. So, anything news, you want
- 49:27announce, obviously, we're happy to do that on the show and, you
- 49:30know, mention anything to The Wider public for you.
- 49:32Awesome. Thanks very much.
- 49:33I put in all the best then take care.
- 49:36Thank you so much. Cheers.
- 49:37Thank you, good. As always, good luck to the Posh
- 49:40tomorrow's peterborough's women's American football.
- 49:42Team marathon runners some from the city and they're taking on
- 49:46the London Marathon Sunday. So yeah, there's plenty going on
- 49:49and plenty to look out for looking ahead to next week's
- 49:52show already indeed. Yeah.
- 49:53Absolutely. Look forward to that and got ice
- 49:54hockey or next week. Tom Lee and potentially the head
- 49:57coach coming with him as well. Starve Slava.
- 49:59So look forward to that. So join us next week, 6 to 7
- 50:02p.m. and that's what Have you doing sporting why this week
- 50:05have fun? Do it well and we'll see you
- 50:07next week. Take care.
- 50:08Bye bye.
