- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining us now jac O'Brien, cracking draft pick first round
- 0:03Speaker 1: from this last year, but looks like he has gotten taller,
- 0:06Speaker 1: gotten bigger as well. I'm great to see you. You made
- 0:08Speaker 1: a great impression. What were your thoughts though on being
- 0:10Speaker 1: here for a few days.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Jake, Yeah, obviously I was more relax this year. The
- 0:14Speaker 2: world win of last year with the draft combine and everything.
- 0:17Speaker 3: You didn't know where you were going to be.
- 0:19Speaker 2: At after that draft, So I'm definitely more relaxed here
- 0:22Speaker 2: and it's definitely less stressful for sure.
- 0:24Speaker 1: What would you have told your eighteen year old self
- 0:27Speaker 1: last year if you could go back into a time
- 0:29Speaker 1: machine and explain, this is what's going to happen, this
- 0:33Speaker 1: is how it's going to work out.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Maybe just say I was pretty stressed out leading up
- 0:39Speaker 2: to the draft, even even a few weeks before it,
- 0:41Speaker 2: just because you know there's so much talk over it
- 0:44Speaker 2: and start to zone it out.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So maybe just trying to zone it out more and
- 0:49Speaker 3: just take it all in.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Well, it sets you on course what was a pretty
- 0:52Speaker 1: productive year regardless, and yet coming up for this next season,
- 0:56Speaker 1: we'll see where the path leads here, certainly, but how
- 0:58Speaker 1: do you feel that you as a player physically mentally
- 1:03Speaker 1: as well right.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Now versus one year ago.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought I got a lot better out of
- 1:07Speaker 2: other things that I lacked last year.
- 1:10Speaker 3: With my defensive play.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Face offs were a bit better, but they still need
- 1:13Speaker 2: to get better and just playing faster, playing quicker. So
- 1:17Speaker 2: I thought I improved this year, but there's a there's
- 1:20Speaker 2: another step I need to take next year.
- 1:21Speaker 4: What's the key defensively with getting better at your age?
- 1:25Speaker 2: Doing video is one thing, and then just being defensively minded.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I'm not looking for offense too much and just Stott
- 1:32Speaker 3: in a.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Come Jacobrien joining us here again from Cracking Development camp.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And it's often said that we can talk about guys
- 1:37Speaker 1: that you know, you love to watch, and they may,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, change year after year just from an NHL scale,
- 1:43Speaker 1: But uh, you know, who have you been watching most
- 1:45Speaker 1: recently as far as trying to take from parts of
- 1:48Speaker 1: their game and apply to years also, well.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I like to I like to say, why Johnson, I
- 1:52Speaker 2: like watching just how Poisy is with the puck and
- 1:54Speaker 2: how skilled he is, And I was able to put
- 1:56Speaker 2: it in the back end that so I think he's
- 1:58Speaker 2: a really good young player in the league.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Then I like.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Watching Nikitti kucher off too, just the what he thinks
- 2:04Speaker 2: the game, in his passing ability to He's really fun
- 2:07Speaker 2: to watch.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So Corey Murphy had a good conversation with the media
- 2:09Speaker 1: earlier just about the long term plan and then and
- 2:12Speaker 1: the philosophy that a lot of these guys will take
- 2:15Speaker 1: away as they get deeper into the summer.
- 2:17Speaker 4: I think for you.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Check it in regularly with Corey. What have those conversations
- 2:20Speaker 1: meant to you? Also as far as your growth, Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: We'll just just taking everyone step at a time.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Obviously I'm still young, so stay taking it one summer
- 2:31Speaker 2: out of time, getting better each day and coming into
- 2:34Speaker 2: camp bigger and stronger this year.
- 2:36Speaker 4: What does this summer mean to you?
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's it's one of the It's probably the biggest summer
- 2:41Speaker 2: my career so far because I could be taking a step.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Into Pearl Hockey this year.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So it's obviously gonna be the biggest jump I I've
- 2:50Speaker 2: I've been a part of. So I need a bigger, stronger,
- 2:53Speaker 2: faster and get better at everything.
- 2:54Speaker 4: So where do you want to take The biggest jump?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Is the more the physical side?
- 2:57Speaker 1: You know, how much you weigh, how much more aster
- 3:00Speaker 1: you are the skill part of it.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I said, I say, just getting stronger, because that'll that'll
- 3:05Speaker 2: help my quickness, that'll help me not getting touched off
- 3:08Speaker 2: the pucks in the next level.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So I think that's the biggest thing for me.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Is the more weight room tim or is it more nutrition?
- 3:13Speaker 4: You think that matters the most?
- 3:15Speaker 3: It's both. Obviously I'm gonna be in the gym every day.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna trained hard, so but if I'm not, if
- 3:21Speaker 2: I don't have good nutrition, I won't gain you weight.
- 3:24Speaker 3: So it's kind of both.
- 3:25Speaker 4: How much has nutrition changed for you over this last year.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I've always been pretty good with my nutrition and the
- 3:31Speaker 2: summers and stuff, but just keeping track of my calories,
- 3:34Speaker 2: trying to get to four thousand days is a big
- 3:36Speaker 2: thing for me.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We've heard a lot about and I'm not gonna gloss
- 3:38Speaker 1: over four thousand calories. I mean that is a lot.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But for how about you guys are burning and shirting.
- 3:42Speaker 1: In me, you have to kind of feel the body,
- 3:44Speaker 1: so the body can certainly process. So usually what's on
- 3:47Speaker 1: the plate for you these days, Well.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Just trying to get at a good breakfast, and it
- 3:51Speaker 2: sometimes tough because I work out early in the morning,
- 3:54Speaker 2: So just.
- 3:55Speaker 4: How many eggs? How many eggs.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'm not a big egg guy. I'll try to get
- 3:59Speaker 2: three in me. Some hash runs bacon stuff, But I
- 4:04Speaker 2: feel like right after my work owners the biggest time
- 4:07Speaker 2: to get some protein in. I usually have two protein
- 4:09Speaker 2: shakes right after I work out, and I get home.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And have a bigger meal. So I feel like that's
- 4:13Speaker 3: the most important to meal all the day for me.
- 4:15Speaker 1: In an alternate universe, off calvaries don't count. What's your
- 4:18Speaker 1: one go to cheat meal?
- 4:23Speaker 2: I just say a burger, even though I usually eat
- 4:26Speaker 2: burgers because they are good with calories and stuff.
- 4:31Speaker 3: But maybe like a weeniesburger probably would be my cheat meal.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And the craziest thing is that, you know, as compared
- 4:36Speaker 1: to the other cheat meal things that you could eat pizza,
- 4:39Speaker 1: chicken tenders, I mean, and Burger's got kind of, you know,
- 4:41Speaker 1: all those same things that you need to kind of
- 4:43Speaker 1: feel yourself in, like the protein part of it. Some lettuce,
- 4:45Speaker 1: tomato to eaven cheese as well. Right, yeah, exactly, So
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's not too bad with Jcobrien. Once again from Cracking
- 4:51Speaker 1: Development Campus, we round out to what's going ahead of
- 4:54Speaker 1: here for for this next year Coachella Valley is where
- 4:57Speaker 1: you spend a little bit of time and maybe you
- 4:58Speaker 1: could have used a little bit more of a but
- 5:00Speaker 1: what were four games in the postseason or how did
- 5:04Speaker 1: four games in the postseason measure up to kind of
- 5:06Speaker 1: give you a taste of what to expect at the
- 5:08Speaker 1: pro level.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll obviously jumping in from junior hockey, it's a
- 5:11Speaker 2: big step, especially jumping into the playoffs too, where it
- 5:15Speaker 2: takes a ram from the regular season.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It was different hockey, a lot more physical, Guys were fast,
- 5:21Speaker 2: guys were quicker, and a lot more structure. So it
- 5:24Speaker 2: was it was good to get my fee wet. I
- 5:25Speaker 2: know what to expect for next year and I feel
- 5:27Speaker 2: like that will really help me.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Do you have one specific welcome to the pro's moment?
- 5:33Speaker 2: I want to say one specific, but like in junior,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I feel like you're able to enter the zone and
- 5:38Speaker 2: kind of calmly and guys that don't pack check as much.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Everyone and in the in in the pro levels is
- 5:43Speaker 2: coming back with a full head of steam.
- 5:45Speaker 3: So I think that's the biggest thing.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm certain that you've heard, and of course you've seen
- 5:49Speaker 1: with what to expect once you make the NHL level
- 5:52Speaker 1: with Cimon Pledge, arena, the facilities, addressing room, all of that.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But what was your first taste off Coachell La Valley
- 5:56Speaker 1: and what they had to offer as well.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously it's a really really nice play, really nice facilities.
- 6:02Speaker 2: They have a chef cooking us food there too, so
- 6:05Speaker 2: it was top notch for sure.
- 6:07Speaker 3: There's also cool plant in the arena's very nice.
- 6:09Speaker 4: So how often do you play golf?
- 6:11Speaker 3: I try to get out once a week or once
- 6:14Speaker 3: every two weeks. Yeah, I'm all right.
- 6:16Speaker 4: What's the strongest part of your game? The driver? The
- 6:18Speaker 4: irons are putting?
- 6:19Speaker 3: Is my driver? Usually? Yeah?
- 6:20Speaker 4: What are you bonded like over three hundred?
- 6:22Speaker 3: Usually my driver? But then my wadge is all.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Right, driver for show, putt for doll.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Right as you finally move into this next season, we
- 6:31Speaker 1: touched on, of course what those four games meant. But
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, ultimately at the end of this for this
- 6:38Speaker 1: next year, where do you hope to take the biggest
- 6:41Speaker 1: step as far as what you're all about as a
- 6:44Speaker 1: player one year from now and.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Then just just getting more mature and being out there,
- 6:49Speaker 2: just being more defensive sound and being a good two
- 6:51Speaker 2: a centerman.
- 6:52Speaker 3: That's what I want to shive for.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Certainly, you've taken big steps here and this crowd walked
- 6:56Speaker 1: away pretty amazed at you and the rest. Finally, Chase
- 6:59Speaker 1: Reid saw him on ice as well from this last season.
- 7:02Speaker 1: What's the mean to have him now in this system?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously he's a really great player. I played him
- 7:07Speaker 2: a few times. Obviously we don't play this so much,
- 7:08Speaker 2: but the times out of I saw him, he looked amazing.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So we're really happy where we got him, and I.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Think he's the best team in the draft for sure.
- 7:17Speaker 1: We'll look forward to seeing that possible connection years down
- 7:20Speaker 1: the road. But Jake appreciate this, have a great summer.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Thank you.
