You might see a familiar face here that we it's been a while. Ethan is stepping in this week. Matt is currently out with his sickness, so. We're wishing Matt the best. But Ethan, how are you doing? Thanks for coming on the podcast. Doing great. Doing really great. ⁓ excited to be back, honestly. Yeah. So if anyone doesn't remember, Ethan has stepped in. ⁓ Ethan, we actually looked it up. I think you came on in December and it was one of the longest episodes ever recorded in Brody Pod. We're gonna try and not do that. Me and Matt have had a bad history of going longer than we say we're going to. So we're gonna try and keep it short and sweet, but still give you guys a lot of entertainment. So gonna be a good episode. Start off with the show preview and kind of what's going what's to come up. Starting off we got we're gonna do a little recap of the UFC Freedom 250. Ethan's got the Sean O'Malley shirt on. Sugar show. What a great card that was. We're gonna be recapping that. We also have a recap of the NBA finals. We're gonna bring it be bringing back Dan the New York Knicks super fan to recap his New York Knicks winning the finals. ⁓ a little bit of the NHL Stanley Cup finals recap, just what you know, the last couple games that I saw. And then some World Cup news. Team USA. Are they actually pretty good? They're looking dominant, especially against Perryway. And then some other NFL news around the league. And then we'll be wrapping up the show. But first, Ethan, let's get into the UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. And I'll start it off. This was an absolute spectacle. It was probably the best sporting event I think I've ever seen on. TV or any broadcast. It had anything and everything that you ever wanted. The fli from the flyovers to the walkouts to the presentation of it all, it just seemed like that alone made it such a cool event. And then not to mention the the fights that we got on this card were also spectacular. Best fight card of the century. I gotta say, I gotta give it to Dana White and Hunter Campbell that ⁓ I owe them an apology because when I seen the fight card, I was like, this is gonna be not gonna be that great. This is gonna suck. I thought there should be five title fights and all, and boy was I wrong because this was an absolute banger of a card, banger of an event. Like, there's no way you can top this. There is no way possible that you can top this, in my opinion. If anyone didn't watch this, this was Sunday night, which Was very tough for UFC fight 'cause it went into the midnight hours and if anyone had work Monday morning like I did, it was worth it to stay up, but it was an absolute It was it was tough. I don't know why they didn't do it on Saturday. I guess there what, there was a boxing event, but I don't think the UFC really sh cared. ⁓ so they did it on Sunday. I actually 'cause I think last podcast I said this was on Saturday, 'cause I just assumed every UFC fight was on Saturday. Turns out because it was Trump's eightieth birthday on Sunday, and then also it was USA, it was Flag Day, which I believe it's the actual like start of the United States, like our two hundred and fiftieth birthday. The actual birthday, yeah. They moved it to Sunday for that. So it was a little weird having to stay up till like midnight on a Sunday to watch some UFC cards. Also, there was all the everyone was talking about the rain delays and possible lightning and the bugs. So there wasn't no rain delays. So I was listening, actually I'm a I was listening to the press conference last night after on my way home from work. And Dana was saying, you know, we thought the rain, he is like the craziest thing happened. Like it was coming for us. He was like, it came and then just veered around us and went and started raining like in front of us. And he was like I was saying they did start an hour later because there was a lightning strike. Yeah. So I think they thought the rain and stuff, yeah, because they said it was gonna be an hour, but it honestly it didn't even end up an hour. I think it was like thirty minutes, like I think it was thirty minute delay, which was kind of crazy 'cause they were saying, ⁓ we're gonna have an hour delay and then we'll get into it. But everything worked out perfect. They said that there was a breeze, just enough of heavy enough of a breeze that like knocked down all the bugs and stuff and didn't make it really too hot at all. Yeah, no, the commentator said like it wasn't hot. It was weird, ⁓ it was so I think it was only like five thousand people in the actual like arena, but yeah, farther on the south on there was like a watch party, I think it was eighty thousand eighty thousand, yeah. And they had did you see ⁓ they would break over to when Gagey won and who else was it? I think Sean when he knocked them out. Yeah. The like pop that them two got was crazy. Which we're gonna be going through and breaking down each fight because like I said, this card was an and fantastic. Actually, it was so fantastic. There were seven fights. Ethan, you know this. There were seven fights and there were seven knockouts slash TKOs. It is the first time ever in UFC history that a whole card ended in knockouts or TKOs. So I mean, like I said, it was a late all all of ⁓ finished early within the second round or the main event, which was a five rounder, went only to the finished at the end of the third round. So you never even got like a long, like drawn out fight. They were pretty quick, which ⁓ I liked. I loved. It's like they knew there was a rain delay or something. Right, yeah. Which I'm pretty sure Dana hated every question he got throughout the week was about the rain and weather and stuff. So but he was glad that it all went around. Yeah, like it it was also a lot of first, like it was the first ever time a UFC event was held outdoors. And it probably be the last I think the last time the first time it was held outdoors in America. They do I think they've done an out in Abu Dhabi. They've done it outside once in Abu Dhabi. Out in the desert? I think so, yeah. For Fight Island, I think they had to do it once there. I could be wrong, but I think I heard them talk about them doing it once and they were like, after this one, we don't want to do it. Like we're not doing it again. We'll have the Brody Pod fact check on that and ⁓ we'll see if that's true. By that I mean someone will let us know in the comments. If not, then let me know. Ro roast me in the comments for being wrong if I'm wrong. No, don't roast. No, roast me. ⁓ so like I said And you'll probably see it as the logo this week, ⁓ the flyover of the White House, just the national anthem. They had Zack Brown band out there doing the national anthem and then the flyover with the ⁓ I believe it was the Blue Angels and I can't remember the other flight crew that they had with them, but that was absolutely just like put inject that into my veins. It was cinematic. The ⁓ walkouts of their theme music and stuff that was played by a like the army. The President's band. The President's band and Actually singing like the girl that was sung Sean O'Malley's song and a lot of other songs, like she is she's badass. Like she is amazing. I heard the commentator say like she stole the show and rehearsals this week and then we had to see absolutely why. I mean, it was just electric and like you said, yeah, the walkouts were fantastic. So they started every fighter. They walked out through the White House and then they also then had like ⁓ they were honoring veterans and some other service from the responders. First responders, ⁓ was it ⁓ Medal of Honor recipients? Yeah, Medal of Honor recipients walking out with them. I thought that was just a nice touch. And obviously, like with the UFC Freedom two fifty, it was just sick. And everyone like ninety percent of people that were there were in the mil like guys that are in the military. Yeah, they had service members actually in the ⁓ in the initial like five thousand crowd around it. ⁓ and then obviously like the eighty thousand watch party out like farther down the lawn. I you did you did have some like famous like regular I guess not regular people but non service members that were there too. But there wasn't a lot of it like it usually is in a stadium or any other event. Speaking of which, Ethan, did you notice like during these fights this was this was a mental note that I made while I was watching this, but it seemed like we were almost back in like the COVID days from whenever these fights were going. It was very quiet and then like you'd hear the crowd pop a little bit, but it was like I said, it was only like five thousand people, so it was like a very intimate fight. I think that's why you think of the COVID was because of there wasn't a lot of people like we're used to being in a stadium where any little thing, yeah, echoing, you have a hundred thousand plus people there like watching. And this time it wasn't. It was outdoors, yeah. There was less people, but Yeah, the sound doesn't travel as much outdoors either. Yeah, it was ⁓ it was nice. I kinda liked it. I think I may like it a little bit more like that than 'cause you can actually you could hear a little bit of the cornerman and stuff. You hear the corner, you could hear a lot of the like the punches when they're landing. You c yeah like I said, it was very like you could tell who was winning the fight just on the sounds of the punches that were going in. Yeah, I love the walkouts, how they would start like in what I don't want to get this wrong, but start in the White House. I'm just gonna say and Well, they started in different wings of the White House or like Sean O'Malley start dude, Sean O'Malley's was kind of cool. He was like in the front of the White House and it came through the doors open. What they had like the service members open the doors. Yeah. So And he turns around. So he said that one of the service members, I can't remember if there was a guy to the right or the left, but you probably go back and watch was he was like, he was hyping me up. He was like, You're gonna go in here and whoop students ass. Like he was like I did I didn't hear the commentator mentioned that. He was like the biggest hype man. And O'Malley was like, usually I'm like trying to be calm, like low, like energy, walking out and all. He was like, but it was hard to do with that guy right there hyped me up. He was like, he was a pretty good hype man right there. So I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to go back and kind of watch that just to see. But it I bet you there was a lot of them doing that for them. Like it may it was a pretty cool experience. Like Yeah, just the whole spectral as a whole. That's why we're gonna go through break this a lot of this podcast, probably half of it's gonna be the UFC Freedom two fifty breakdown. Just because it was and I like I said, it was probably the best sporting event. It was the best sporting event I I've ever seen. Definitely one of my favorite fighters. Sean O'Malley taking on I am Sab Sababi. Sean O'Malley, of course, the American in this fight. ⁓ Swabi was the Canadian. Also came out to O Canada in his walkout at the White House. Old strategy. That yeah. I mean And then let it in with Drake. Yeah. It was a Drake remake, I think, of old Canada or whatever that they did. Don't get me wrong, I like Drake, but that time and place, buddy. Yeah, you gotta read the room there. Definitely read the room. But hey, I mean, you are Canadian, so I guess ⁓ well, but You gotta win. You definitely gotta win. If you're gonna play that song and come out there on US Soul in the White House, you definitely have to win. Like, and he did not do that. And speaking of which, Sean O'Malley came out to his like famous walkout song, Superstar. And we talked about a little bit in the ⁓ the pre start of this this this segment here. But I think he needs to keep doing that. I know last time he came out to Proud to Be American, loved that, but Every time he comes out to superstar, it seems like he wins the fight. Yeah. So he I think he wasn't very happy with the decision against Song Yedong. I feel like he's and he even said it like, I gotta come out here and take this dude's lights out, knock this dude's lights out to basically show that I'm ready for a title shot again. And I mean that's what he did with the salute. Yeah. That was probably one of the most electric parts of the night. Sean O'Malley knocks out Zbobby. And then salutes him. He he does a one two as the guy's as he's falling to the ground, yeah. Spamming the emote. So I was which I definitely watched I mean I watched all the fights, but I'd have paid more attention to the O'Malley fight because he is my favorite fighter right now since John Jones has left. And ⁓ like I was a little bit worried there because of the leg kick said the hobby was he was putting him on him. But of course O'Malley's like, Yeah, the leg kicks really don't do much. But they obviously do when you start to see that leg get red. And it and I mean it sucks because you can't plant or put any power, throw any punches, but Zahobi should have Sean Mellon one of the most technical fighters that we've ever seen, probably some of the best striking in UFC history. I think he's actually the most accurate striker in UFC history. Yeah, he is his accuracy is unbelievable. And Zahabi, I think, wanted to prove a point to stand and box with him and He should have probably wrestled him, but I think he knew, which O'Malley knew that he would probably try to take him down because O'Malley's wrestling is not that great. That and the height difference. Shawn O'Malley five eleven, Sahabi five eight. And once again it seemed like kind of with the Michael Chandler, Sahabi was just running into the jab of Sean O'Malley. Yeah. And which I like. Like Sean O'Malley's probably the biggest what is he, bannem weight right now. Like he is the tallest guy. on the roster, I believe. I think there may be one or two guys that are pretty close to him, but that height really helps in these fights and all. Yeah. And you mentioned also the chance for a title shot after this. I believe the champion in the banner weight is Peter Yan. Yeah. So I think O'Malley has the win on him right now. He does. Yeah. He has a win a title, I think, defense against him. But I think O'Malley is okay with not fighting for the title next. I think he knows that it's gonna be Marab and Peter Jan fighting for the title and then he gets the winner of that. Unless something crazy happens. And ⁓ is he fighting Mr you say he's fighting Marab? Peter Yan? Yeah so Peter Yan beat Marab for the title. So Marab gets the rematch and I think O'Malley knows. O'Malley said like Marab deserves the rematch. So whenever they finish up, I'm here. Whoever wants to get it. I'd be interested to see that would be his third fight against Marab if that ended up happening. Yeah. And It seems like Mirab's had his number 'cause he's Mirab's beat O'Malley twice. He just takes him to the ground. Yeah. O'Malley's wrestling defense isn't that great at all. And that's the only thing like if O'Malley could get decent in wrestling, O'Malley'd be unstoppable. He'd probably be like a He'd be running the division. Yeah. For a long time. Yeah. And it seems like he I mean, don't get me wrong, he's working his way back up to a title fight. He's already worked or title fight, but Yeah, I think he deserves a shot. Definitely. Yeah. No, I think honestly, if ⁓ him and Mara I I would rather him face Peter Yawn, but if they give it to Marab Marab somehow wins, then I guess him and Peter Yawn, it was a split decision last time that O'Malley up winning. So it seems like there's a little bit of I don't know. Unfinished business there. Exactly. Yeah. Moving on to the next fight here. The co main event was also a title fight. Alex Pira taking on Cyril Gain. Alex Pierre was going for three belts in three different divisions. I believe he had the what was it, the middleweight middleweight, light heavyweight, and now he was going to the heavyweight. Yeah. Was not able to get it done. Is was TKO'd by a Cyril Gain who I didn't realize he had fought John Jones back in the day. Yeah, not the young fighter. No, not back in the day. He fought him like last year. Was I was it I thought it was like Two years ago. Maybe maybe it maybe two years, but I believe it was it was here re kind of recent ishly. Well it was twenty twenty three, yeah. He lost the submission. But to say that fight did show up on like my TikTok algorithm. And that fight didn't last long at all. What was that? Like it lasted. It was the first round. It was only like a couple minutes in. And I was like, all right, Cyril Gone. He's alright, but he ain't that great. And then he comes out here, which Poeton Is moving up. I mean he is moving up three weight classes from where he started and that has to take an effect on him, but Yeah. I was kind of I was kinda Pereira. I was kinda hoping Alex Pereira would win just to be a three division and I think I mean I like Pereira. Yeah. I used to not like him, but ⁓ like when he was in middleweight running the division, but then they s kind of grew on me. But I think Ciro Gone the trauma that he uses. Yeah. Zero gone is for real. Also, I thought it was interesting that Alex came in. He ended up weighing more than Gone. Alex came in at 251. Gone came in at 248. So I wonder if like gaining that much weight, because like you said, he came from the other two divisions. He moved up to the heavyweight, gained a lot of weight. You notice whenever he was fighting, if you've seen him fight in the past, like it seemed like he had a little bit of a belly on him, and it it was kind of also in his ass, like some of the weight that he had gained. Yeah, or if that was just moving slower. I I think so. Yeah. I mean, if you look at how like John Jones moved up from light heavyweight to heavyweight, but he also took off like two, three, four years and trained and basically built muscle other than fat. And I feel like Alex just had a lot more fat than he did muscle. And yeah, it's it slowed him down, I feel like. Yeah, 'cause he fought last October. I think it was like at the light heavyweight or something, and then moves up to the heavyweight and I was against trying to think of who that was. Was it It was ⁓ McGomed from Russia? That was at like two ⁓ five or something was the weight class. Yeah. He's a is he the champion? Did he beat him for the belt? He it was a title defense. Yeah. So Alex Pereira, I w wish he would have been able to pull it out, but honestly, and a lot of people are saying that ⁓ Cyril came in and was doing like some illegal punches in the back of the head. I mean I don't think the ref didn't call out the ref was right there on top of it, so Yeah. And also like Alex was kind of covering up a little bit, so like you have to strike him at some point. Yeah, so I'm curious with Hoket winning. Hoket wants Pereira, but does Hoket I mean Hoket wants Pereira But I'd rather see Hokit and Cyril gone if Tom Aspinall doesn't come back. And I don't think Where is Tom Aspinall? Why is he not fighting? He's recovering from an eye injury, they say, but like it's always something. Dana's 'cause Dana's I think getting frustrated with him and it's like he says he wants to come back, but then we try to talk to him and he's like, ⁓ he's having eye surgeries and all this kind of stuff. Like so w I don't think they really know when or if he'll come back. His Agent Eddie Hearn, I think, has been trying to get his release from the UFC. So it's like, do you want to come back or do you not want to come back? Okay, so that was the co main event. Moving on to the main event was absolute cinema. The best the cherry on top of this whole title card going or this this fight card going on. Ilya the Poria taking on Justin Gagey. And a lot of people, including myself, thought, man, Ilya Daporia, 17 and ⁓ It's gonna be a tough one for Justin Gagey. Justin Gagey did look good in his last fight against Patty Pimlett and got the BMF belt. He was going against Iliad Taporia for the light unified lightweight, yeah. Undisputed. Yeah. He was going for the lightweight championship, and he was going to try and unify the belts with the BMF and the lightweight. Ends up being able to pull it off in a, I guess technically not a doctor stoppage, but a corner stoppage. Yeah. So yeah. So apparently what I heard was Through like I heard Ilya kind of wanted to have the match stop, but he didn't want to have the match stop. Like he didn't want people to know. Right. Because at at one point before or the first time the doctor came in, he was like, I can't see. And was like basically like basically said he he couldn't see, but didn't say it loud enough to where he I mean, he said it loud enough to where that maybe the doctor could hear it to say, hey, he can't fight no more, but didn't want to be like, I qu basically I quit. I can't see. But his brother was a his brother said that he wanted to keep fighting, that he could keep going. And then their cornerman basically stopped it and said, Right. You need to live to fight another day, basically. And the fight started off at a crazy clip. I mean, if you watched round one, I compared it to like two cats in the alley going at it. Anytime these guys were throwing punches, it was just like They throw one, the other one throw it it was like they were each throwing three combinations each at each other. It was yeah. I was like, ⁓ my gosh, someone's gonna get knocked out early in this fight. Yeah. I Ilya's just kept walking into that straight right. And I think that's Ilya even said and ⁓ I looked at a post earlier that was like, You you hit my right eye was that round one, you basically fucked up my right eye ro in round one to where I couldn't really start to see. And then as it went on, you got to the left eye and then I couldn't basically it was just over from there. And Ilya's like ⁓ he had a he had a weird haircut going into the fight. I guess let me back it up with the walkouts a little bit. Yeah let let me back it up even more. So Ilya has done has to me, he's gotten too cocky and he will go like the night before he had his celebration dinner. of the fight. So he already thought that like he was gonna win the fight and had a celebration dinner and then comes out there and gets destroyed. Which is I guess is I mean, to me it's cocky, but it's also like mind games. Like that has to play my a little bit of mind games with your opponent of this dude celebrating a win that he hasn't won the night before. Right. And speaking of, you know, the walkouts and everything, Justin Gagey Probably one of the most American fighters we've ever seen. I think he always w comes out in the stars and the stripes. And then it was of course that he should be on this White House card. They panned to him for the walkouts and he's staring at the Declaration of Independence in the Oval Office. And then continues, walks out to a song. He's like, There ain't no grave that can hold me down, just kind of walking through the White House, getting ready for the fight. Shows up. He like I said, six to one underdog, ⁓ Taporio comes out to his music. He's ready for, you know, like you said, he thinks he's already won this fight. He's he's you know, he's taken in the moment, he's gonna bask in it. Then the round starts, they go at it. ⁓ I did see Gatesy said that Tapoya was a little bit of a pretty boy and that when the first that moment when he made a bleed in the first round, ⁓ Ilya started touching his face a lot. It was like, ⁓ no. I think yeah, but I also think like that first round, he like hit him pretty good and started mess like that eye started to swell. And I think that's what he was kinda I think that's what he was worried about too, was he was trying to cover that eye, kind of take the blood off, yes, and but feel to see how s much swelling was going on with that eye. Right. And I'll say after the first round too, after the whole fight, I'll include a picture here of like what his face looked like at the beginning of the fight versus the end of the fight. And there you can just see the damage like if you didn't know anything, if you didn't watch this fight, if you just looked at the fighters after, you could probably tell who won the fight. So I don't know if this is for sure or not, but I've heard that now this is all rumors, but that he like broke his orbital bone and possibly like his jaw. I know. I think Dana said it was the orbital around the eye. He did have to go to the hospital after the fight. No, he went to hospital immediately after the fight. Like they he couldn't even walk to the back. They he walked out with his brother holding him up and then they got onto a goat like a cart or whatever and they took him I guess straight to the ambulance and yeah he went straight to the hospital. Yeah. And then moving on from round one to round two, I I thought Ilya won round two. Yeah Ilya definitely won right yeah round two. Ilya almost knocked him like almost had Gecy done. Like Yeah he almost was able to submit him when it went to the ground and Gagey was able to get out of it and hold on to it just till the end of round two. He almost knocked him out a couple of times too like he had Gachy stunned Pretty bad. And Gachy somehow got out of there and was able to kind of move around. I'll say Gagey can absolutely take a punch because like you said, yeah, Ilya was trying to walk him down, was kind of piecing him up a little bit in that second round. And then Gachy got off some shots of his own, kind of was helping that eye swell up a little bit more. Ilya's punches are strong. And Gagey was like and Gachy after the fight was like, My skin needs to be studied because he was hitting me hard and I'm not busted open at all. Like he was like I have some tough skin. Like my skin's not normal. Like this my skin should be studied. Yeah. No, I mean it was it was incre I mean, every time each of these guys threw a punch, I thought this was it. This was the fight that would have there was multiple times where they were both stunned in this fight. Yeah. I thought like 'cause they would go it wouldn't like they would jab once or twice and then all of a sudden they would be going in like throwing haymakers like back and forth for like Daporia going to the body on him. Like there at one point Daporia did hit a liver shot on Justin Gagey. Justin Gagey falls to the ground and they're able survive. Yeah. That's one of the ones that he was almost done was that liver shot. And I think I think the problem was with Ilya was Ilya I mean, Ilya hasn't went long distance. I think Ilya's only been to like what the second, third round in every fight. Like he usually knocks his guys out. So I don't think he trains like cardio wise very hard. And after That first round, them throwing like back and forth a lot and the the pace that they were going and that second round of once he knew that Justin was hurt trying to finish him, using up all that cardio, like after the second round, Ilya was I mean, Ilya already lost the fight 'cause Ilya was slow. Ilya couldn't really I mean his punches weren't powerful because he couldn't hardly like breathe. Well I think you hit it. Like he couldn't submit ⁓ because he was so tired from that first round of how fast they were moving. Yeah. And the second round, like He had him hurt. And honestly, he had him hurt through the whole, like, all the way up to the third round. If he could have kept landing them liver shots, which at the after like the second round, he him he threw some, but he was kind of slowing down the pace a lot. Yeah. And you mentioned also like how hard Ilya hits. Just his last three fights leading into this one, Alexander Volkonowski knocks him out. Max Holloway knocks him out. Charles Oliveira knocks him out. Yeah. And then he runs into Justin Gagey. There were three future Hall of Fame, like them are legends in the score, too, that he knocked out. Ilya seemed like an unstoppable force in this fight. Or coming into it. No, I think I think the problem was was Ilya knocking out them three. He kind of got a little too big for his head and thought that he could go in here and run through Justin Gacy as Gagey's what he's on the older side, thirty nine, forty ish. I think thirty six Thirty thirty seven now. Thirty seven, okay, yeah. So towards the end of his career, I mean, and Gachy which Gagey said, like, even coming in all throughout his career, he's like, I'm gonna get knocked out. He goes, the way that I fight, I'm gonna get knocked out, but I'm gonna win more than I lose, and my fighting style is gonna be kind of brutal. Right. And he has a wrestling background too, but he really just enjoys like standing up on his feet and striking with someone. So I think I can't I'm trying to think if I heard it right, but he's like, yeah, he does no wrestling, but he never wrestles 'cause he's like, it takes too much out of you. Like it takes and the way where like we saw when Ilya was trying to submit him, he was able to keep his arm from getting an arm bar, getting in a I think it was a dars choke is the what Ilya was going for as well. Yeah. He was able to just get out of all of that No, no, I think Gaichey did the dars. G Gagey had the dars when Gaichey like stunned him and What was it, round three? ⁓ I think it was a triangle Ilya was trying on him then. Yeah, Ilya. But yeah, no, Ilya just ran out of gas after that one and two round, which the funny thing was, I guess they let they pick like let him write down before the fight, probably early in the week, like how do how are you gonna see this fight ending? And Gagey was like second round, straight right knockout to Ilya, and he was like 'Cause he read it after the fight that night and there's a video of it and he's like read it off and he like, Yeah, that's the route that's the route that I got my ass kicked in. So he's I w I was wrong there, but it was No, and so then we get to the end of round three was it I think it was the end of round two when Ilya was getting checked in his corner and the doctor almost called the fight. So yeah. Because his eye was so swollen that he was I'm not silly we're not we're not doctors here on the podcast, but It was something that he couldn't see, and so the doctor said, ⁓ if you can't see, you can't protect yourself. I'm gonna call the fight. And they did for a second. And I was I think I was there with everyone else on the TV going, No, don't call this fight early. Please let him fight. It's too it's too good to stop right now. Yeah, so the doctor I guess technically the doctor can't stop the fight. I guess it's more ⁓ Well no, if he stops it, he could tell the he could tell the ref like, Hey, what's it's over. This guy can't defend himself. Yeah, but the doctor was The doctor was saying like he can't see I guess kind of, hey, the fight needs to be over. But ⁓ I think it was lost in translation. I too, I think they were getting like the ref was kinda getting upset because they they went through the whole like minute 'cause they only get a minute in between rounds. And then all of a sudden at the end of that minute the doctor came in and was trying to say, which his cornerman and Ilya was saying, Hey, I'm good. I can fight, I can fight. And so They were wasting time there, I think, to help Ilya get like the broadcast was like there like there's win back at it. Yeah. Well, getting yeah, recovering. And then the once they said once Ilya and them were like, We're good, then the ref overruled the doctor and said, Hey, I'm I'm letting this fight happen. Like you you said you're good. I'm gonna let this fight continue. Right. And then that's when they kicked he kicked the doctor out of the I just remember the doctor and everyone even on the broadcast was like, please don't stop this fight. 'Cause it got picked up on TV. He just started shaking his head and goes, No, he can't go no more. Yeah. Like, please don't do this. ⁓ but then they yeah, they go into round three. Gagey absolutely takes over round three, stuns Ilya, and then at the end of the fight, or at the end of the round, throws a knee right in the ribs at Ilya. I think that was the knee right there was the one that Ilya wanted to quit on because that knee was brutal. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be surprised if Ilya doesn't have a couple broken ribs. Yeah. Right there. And I think 'cause you you can see when he kicked him. He goes back to his corner. Well, you can see when he kicked him, he like push it he's like Ilya pushes his elbow like his arm back there to try to like defend it. Cover try to cover up. Right. It makes sure that he don't get hit there again. So I'm wondering if he didn't break a rib or something right there and then it he couldn't hardly breathe. Yeah. So then yeah, it goes to the corner, the corner I guess one of his corner members, or maybe it was his brother or someone called it. Well, no, his broth so his brother said he can fight, he can still go, and then the cornerman stopped it. Which Yeah. I think that was the right call. That was definitely the right call because I mean, depending on how much damage his face has right now, like we we're just speculating, like orbital bone broken, maybe jaw, couple ribs. Like you let him go out there and get I mean he couldn't hardly see. Like you can't see a right or left hook coming at you with your eyes swole shut. And I don't know what was said with Ilya, but I know Ilya, like, I don't know if he was wanting to keep going and try to fight because you can see as soon as he gets back to his corner, they give him a towel and he like puts his head down to try to, I guess, maybe cover up so the doctor couldn't see like how much damage. But as soon as he did that, the cornerman was like, Hey, you gotta you you gotta live to fight another day. You can't just die out here right now for this. Like And I did see Ilya Deporteo came out with a statement to Justin after the fight, said, Justin, congratulations. You said you'd leave a mark on my face and you did. You took the sight from my right eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, my left two. No excuses. I had one of the best camps of my life. I came in in sharp, prepared, and ready. Last night was your night. That's the nature of this game. Glory and pain walk side by side. I'll heal, I'll rest, I'll return stronger, wiser, and far more dangerous. And trust me, the story between us is far from over. We will have our rematch. Yeah, I like I I respect Ilya for coming out and being like, hey, I was fully like I was the best version of myself right there. Now whether if he was or not, I was the best version of myself and you just you beat me. You were the better the better dog at the fight right there. Yeah, and I think it's interesting that he mentions a rematch. I heard Justin Gagey say Ilya's in no shape for a rematch. He goes, When a guy wits like that, I don't think they deserve a rematch immediately. Right. Yeah. Well, and two, there's rumors of Gagey maybe retiring. Like, I think he told his mom, like his mom was like, Can let's not talk about retiring tonight. And he was like Which he promised her that he wouldn't talk about retiring. But if that was said, then he's probably which he knows it's getting towards the end of his career. And I think if I mean I would say I think he should retire. This is the ⁓ like cinema way to go out. That's that's exactly what I think. Like there's no better way. You win the title on the White House lawn, but then again, there's a part of me that's like, that was the best in the division right there. And you He did look very sharp against the very good. Maybe maybe you get one title defense and then you put it up, but it's hard to argue about not retiring right now. Right on to the top. Especially because he's worked his whole life to get up to this moment. Yeah. And been denied multiple times and then comes out victorious on the best event that you could probably possibly have right there. And not to mention he was also a six to one underdog. I know he was talking with Joe Rogan in the in the ring after and he said, you know, I was a six to one underdog, but America was a bigger underdog back in the day, talking about the revolution. So did you see the bet that Armin ⁓ Saruki or Saruka, whatever, hosted, or his friend, his friend made a bet for him, a one million dollar bet on Jack.com that paid out five point seven million dollars. Now, I don't know if Jack.com has seven point five million dollars to pay out, but he put a million on him? He put a million dollars on Justin Gagey to win. And he said, so I guess or Armin does some streaming or something, or they was caught on a video saying, Hey, if Justin Gachy, if you win, I will buy you a brand new truck. And Armin came out and said, well they asked in the postc conference, what truck would you want, Gagey? And which of course the UFC right now is one of their big sponsors is Ram. And Dana was like was like, ⁓ he wants a RAM. And Gachy is like, I'll take a RAM. I'll take a brand new RAM. He was like, it's about time for me to get a new big truck anyway. I think he said he had a twenty sixteen That has like seventy six thousand miles on it. So it's about time to get a new one. I was like, I wish I had it. I wish I could just do that every seventy-six thousand miles, get a new truck. Well, not to mention Gagey ended up getting, I believe Dan White gave them fight of the night. And so on top of all of that money, he got the bonus. I think it was like eight hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. Yeah. So well, crypto threw in a million dollars to the for bonuses to add on. And yeah, so Justin Gagey got Performance of the night and fight of the night. Right. Or perfor performer of the night and fight of the night. So he got double, which yeah, was ⁓ I think both of them were eight hundred thousand apiece and then the twenty five for the finish. Yeah, so like and then he should retire, go out on top with all that money. And also Cyril Gone got pref well performance of the night as well. So he got four hundred thousand. Nice. ⁓ not to mention also Justin Geechee almost broke his neck on the backflip celebration after the fight. Every time a fighter does that jumps off the top of the ring. I think back there's a UFC fighter. He ended up roll I think he snapped both his ankles whenever he did it. I get nervous every time, but he ended up he backflipped, landed it, and then landed on his head because he didn't second flip. Yeah. Well the momentum of him like was carrying it backwards, yeah. And still popped right up. I was like, dude, my neck would be snapped if I tried that. Yeah. I would be laying there, need to go stretcher to come out and get in it. Yeah, I'd be in the hospital with Ilya. After that. So it was cool. He also got to win in front of his dad and his mom that were there. So which going back a little bit, so their medical tents, I guess medical, they had like medical campers or whatever that were like right next to each other. And Sean O'Malley was in the medical because obviously every fighter has to go back there and get checked out, no matter if you win or lose, was back there with ⁓ Zahabi. They were like right next to each other, and he was like, Dude, Zahabi's a great guy. He's like, I felt so bad, but Zahabi was like congratulating me and stuff. And he was like, ⁓ I felt bad for him. I'm like, yeah. I'm like, that would that would suck to get the shit beat out of you and then you see your opponent right back there, like back there with you. Right. Well, cool. So I think that is ⁓ is there anything else closing on this other than this was a one time event? Dan White said they did lose money, the UFC with all the setup and everything for it. But it was an absolute spectacle. If you didn't watch it, you should go back on Paramount and watch it. It was it was such a cool event. And ⁓ I can't wait to see someone was mentioning to me that maybe they'll do it at other like capital areas at different countries. ⁓ so Dana White shut all that down. Yeah. So he they 'cause they were asking him in the post fight press conference, they're like, Do you see anything? He was like, Absolutely not. But they did Dana did say told President Trump That they are gonna do a UFC card or UFC event for the troops next year possibly. Probably like middle next year. Okay. For so that'll be pretty cool to have for the troops and all. So I don't know where that'll be, if that'll be like at a base somewhere or if it'll be at an arena and I don't know how it's ⁓ The funny thing was was in the ⁓ post fight press conference, he asked like all the guys, so all the winners got to be in the post fight press conference all at the same time. And he asked, he was like, How'd y'all think how'd y'all like being like this event outdoors and all? And all of them were like, ⁓ man, it was good, like the breeze felt nice, all this stuff. And he was like, Well, great, we're not doing that again though. Yeah. So moving on, the next fight, the next big UOC fight that's gonna be going on will be McGregor taking on Holloway, and that's gonna be July eleventh. Eleventh. So probably the next time we talk about UFC. But honestly, such a great event. Was worth staying up for, worth being tired at work on Monday if you stayed up. If if you have Paramount Plus and never watched the UFC and want to like watch it or see what we're talking about, go back and watch that fight. I don't know if you can. Surely you can. Surely it'll be on there still. Go on there and watch that fight and you I mean, even if you go on YouTube and look up the highlights. Yeah. Even if you don't like the fighting, just the atmosphere of it is pretty cool. No, so ⁓ with that, we will come back and we will do a little NBA finals recap with Dan, the Knicks super fan, and then we will some other recaps and we'll be ready to close out the show. All right, and we're back to do a little NBA finals recap. We have our champion. The New York Knicks have defeated the San Antonio Spurs and game five, ninety four to ninety. The Knicks host the Larry O'Brien trophy for the first time in fifty three years, Dan. Yeah, fifty-three years. Longest gap between titles. They won in nineteen seventy, nineteen seventy-three, and now they are the champions of twenty twenty-six. I told you guys we were bringing back Dan, the New York Knicks super fan. And Dan, I'll let you have it, man. I'll let you have the floor. Whatever you need to say, get off your chest. This is your moment. I mean, honestly, I think the the only reaction that's kind of going through my head is this doesn't feel real. It's like a complete dream to me. You know, I'm sure there's people out there, there's like you know, you're so young and and you haven't seen this that long. I've been watching this team through the trenches for years. Just give me my moment, please. It's insane. I mean, I feel like you deserve it more because you've had to be on the struggle bus with them for so long. Like the last couple not I guess last couple years, but the years that they were really, really bad. Yeah. I mean, I started like, you know, religiously watching like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, all those years where we were somewhat good and then the fall off just kind of happened. So just year after year, not making playoff, not making playoff, just you know, being absolutely horrible. It it was it was just rough. But then, you know, along came a a nice little small king named Jalen Brunson there and many turned this franchise around. Yeah. Thank you to the Dallas Mavericks. But well good Dan, I We'll also mention to the people listening, I was with Dan whenever the Knicks won game five, and it was so fun to watch because his heart rate was absolutely through the roof. He was he was sweating it. I was like, Dan, you're up three one. What are you freaking out about? But Dan, I think your heart rate, you average for the game. It was like one thirty. Yeah. Yeah. Specifically in the fourth average eye. Yeah. I wanna I wanna know your reaction of game four, the last minute buzzer beater right there. Dude, absolutely insane. ⁓ watching that with them. Yeah. Pretty much my reaction for that was, you know, we were getting absolutely smoked in the first and the second quarter. I thought I was looking at like prime golden state, just like absolutely burying us. But I mean, I truly believed the whole entire time. I know it sounds very cliche, but I literally thought like any of these baskets, we just need one run and then it's completely over. And then it happened. We went on like a 7 0 run into the third. And it just kept on coming over and over and over again. But to finish off that game, Jalen Brunson, you know, takes his game winning shot, doesn't hit it unfortunately, but the man and the savior, OG Anobi, just comes out of nowhere with a you know, small DR and Fox guardian at him, allegedly. ⁓ and tips it in at the end. It was absolutely insane. I was freaking out when that was happening. Probably the best game of basketball I've ever seen in my life. Well, minus the first half of basketball. Yeah. I the Spurs played very good in the first half. So that was what, the largest, like lead? Largest comeback in finals history. They were down twenty seven. And so that leads me into game five, where it was the second largest comeback to win a finals closeout game at sixteen points. And Dan, I know we were watching the game five and they were down sixteen or whatever at some point. ⁓ we got a phone alarm going off. This is this is real real podcasting here. That's good. Yeah, no, we're not scripted here. But so yeah, they come back, they win that. And Dan, we were watching game five and I knew they were down sixteen. And I told you, I was like, you know they're gonna come back at some point. Like after game four, like, how could you not believe that no matter how much how far they're down, it doesn't matter. It seems like this next team is so scrappy, they're gonna come back and win this. Yeah. I I mean, honestly, when when I was saying that with you, it seemed like even at the beginning of the game, you were way more positive than I was. I was like sweating like, Man, we're in San Antonio right now. Down 16 points in the second. Knicks aren't scoring good. Spurs aren't scoring scoring good either, but they have a lead at us at this point. I I mean, that's kind of when I was like starting to really get like progressively nervous during the game. But you know, also the trophies in the building. Like yeah, like everybody's ready. Like this is we need to do this like right now, or there's gonna be doubts in our minds. I mean, Mikael Bridges literally, you saw what happened, he goes up to And everything like that. And he starts falling apart for like the rest of the series. He runs into the super superhero that is Giannis in the Milwaukee Bucks title run. Dan, speaking of like the Knicks comeback in this series, not to mention just like I think game game one was probably the only one you could say the Knicks truly like played better than the Spurs. Game two, we had the the Wimby pass it into Stephon Castle's back. Should have, you know, won that game for the Spurs. Game Three they then win in New York. Game four, they're up twenty seven. They should win that. Realistically looking at the series, it should have been three one headed back to San Antonio. But instead it's three one in favor of the Knicks. And not to mention, I looked up this stat, fun little stat here. The Knicks led for twenty three point six percent of the time in the NBA finals. I believe that is the lowest ever a team that's won the finals has led in the finals. Incredible stuff. No, I mean it it really was just like the The inexperienced Spurs, I think, were our only reason we got out of a lot of situations. Obviously, we have some like really key and crucial players that can, you know, actually, you know, be really well, like Carl Anthony Towns the first couple games, he was doing amazing. Josh Hart was on a different level for some of those as well. But, you know, when it kind of came down to it, game two specifically, as you mentioned, you know, getting the ball thrown into the back, like that's inexperience right there. Darren Fox going up for a layup in game four. When you're already leading, that's inexperience right there. And he's the veteran on the team, which is kind crazy to think about. But, you know, I think their inexperience was the only thing that really led us to actually take over the series and win these games that we definitely shouldn't have if it was an experienced team out there. But I mean, definitely give your, you know, credit to the Knicks in the end of the day. Jalen Brunson absolutely did phenomenal the whole entire series. OJ Ananobi, you know, an absolute unit when it came down to it. Probably the number two guy in the finals for us. I know Carl Andy Downs had some really good first games, but OG really helped us close out those key crucial games out there. So give credit to the Knicks a little bit, but yeah, the Spurs inexperience really showed it. ⁓ and I think that's gonna be something that they'll fix. Just look at how those teams were constructed. The Spurs constructed their team through the draft versus the Knicks went out there and signed players and brought they I did hear the F them picks. go out after the after the closeout game, they win the finals, but you guys do have a a solid state of players that you guys have built around Jalen Brunson with. I mean did you have something? Yeah. I mean the Knicks run, this playoff run was honestly pretty like great. I mean they win game one against what Detroit and then they lose the next two and then they go on and win every game till what game third is Atlanta they lost too. Atlanta, yeah. Atlanta. Atlanta the second best team in the NBA apparently They lose two wins. They have two losses right there in what game two and three, and then they come on a roll and don't lose till game three of the NBA finals. Like that's they were on a bunch. Like I feel like as you watch them go and sweep ⁓ what was it the Cavs? Like I'm like, man, I think New York's gonna win. Like analytically they didn't sweep the Cavs. Well yeah, analytically. Never forget that. I mean, technically we should be in game seven or game six right now. It's the caps. But I was like, they are like once they started once they lost the two and kind of went on that hot streak, I'm like, yeah, I think they're gonna they got this. Like it's I feel like it was just destiny for them to come in here and win it. They did strike me as a team destiny. They did win with game five winning that it was their ninth straight road win, and it is tied for an NBA record. It's actually an NBA record for one postseason, that many road wins straight. And then not to mention that the streak that they had what'd it get up to? Right, fifteen, Dan? Fifteen in a row you guys won? I think it was fourteen four thirteen or fourteen. ⁓ I can't remember which one of those two it was. But I mean, yeah, one of the second most since the Warriors. Yeah, pretty much. And you guys are also the fifth team to lose once over the final three rounds of the postseason. So Sixers swept them, Cavs technically swept them, but not analytically didn't sweep them. And the Spurs, you win that series four one. Just incredible stuff for the Knicks. It just they got hot at the right moment. Actually, I won't even say they got hot at the right moment. They won the NBA Cup back in what was it, December? In March, yeah. In ⁓ was that March that they finished up? I thought it finished earlier in the season than that. I think maybe March or February. But Okay. Yeah. No, they you know it was really weird going into, you know, the playoffs and everything like that. The Knicks were not favored to win this at all. We came in, you know, very low seed in in my opinion. And we really weren't looking like the best team in the East. Detroit honestly wasn't my opinion. Like they were absolutely like killing teams left and right. But, you know, the second we lost to the Hawks that second time, we go down two one against them. Something flipped. Something completely flipped on it. And it literally just looked like prime Knicks from last year into a better version of that. The Knicks last year were phenomenal, just injuries kind of plagued them out there. But this year was so insane with how connected they were. They were, you know, we're team basketball out here. It's not like, you know, you have LeBron James by himself to like leading a team, Luca leading himself or anything like that. Like everyone on our starting five contributed heavily to this title's success. Yeah. And ⁓ speaking of people that contributed heavily to the five to the all. you know, finals run and y'all success that y'all had. Jalen Brunson in the closeout game. We haven't even mentioned him. Forty five points in that closeout game. It's tied second at all time, well, with MJ. And I think it's only behind Giannis, who had fifty. But I think it's the highest ever from a guard in a closeout game. T well, I guess tied with Michael Jordan. Yeah, I mean, you know, to be up there with the the likes of Jordan, I mean that's nothing to like kind of laugh at. J Jalen saved us in game five there. Without him, we don't do that at all. Like even if you put him like a a subpar point guard, not a chance. You know, forty-five points, hitting every mark he could, getting to the free throw line a lot. Yes, he he did that. But, you know, taking on the challenge when, you know, it was him versus Wemby in the fourth quarter, and he just drove right at him and scored. One of the biggest time plays for his career by far. Yeah, incredible stuff. And like we just mentioned, Jalen Brunson. Such a big success and contributor that he won finals MVP. He's now the first player in NBA history to win the NBA Cup MVP, Final Conference Finals MVP, and now NBA Finals MVP. So legit the MVP, Jalen Brunson. Yeah, and I mean, you know, kind of going just a tiny bit further than that, I want to say, you know, he won two chips with Villanova. I mean, that's something that no one can really say, specifically in the NBA. If you're like winning, you know, multiple titles and everything like that. in college, most of the time they they might stick it out for the full four years out there. But Jalen Brunson, two titles. He also won his state championship. This man has won at every single level of basketball. There's really nothing left. I mean, the best thing that we're gonna see out of him next is hopefully the Olympics when when that kind of kicks off to add something to his resume. Some more hardware, yeah. I mean, I feel like you're missing the MVP like the regular season MVP would be icing on the cake right there. And which definitely an early favorite for that now. Yeah, without a doubt he is. But I mean, the Knicks aren't really centered around one guy, which is, you know, I think the the biggest thing for our team. Can he do that? I mean, hopefully he can, but he's also a player that just plays for the win and he'll do it however he needs to. But hopefully, real quick, you brought up the NCAA championship. So ⁓ Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikel Bridges are the first trio to win the NCAA and NBA finals as teammates. I mean, that's just the most amazing story. Yeah, I mean should more teams have FDIs on the same same college team? I don't know. Like nobody. I mean, Duke, you had like RJ, Zion, Cam Reddish that, you know, probably could have done something in the league, but you know, you don't really get to see even that level of players that are on the same team together all make the league and then specifically get onto the same team and then even better than that, win a championship. Literally. A a straight Disney movie. Like you couldn't make a better script up. This is this is perfection in my opinion. I feel like that helps with chemistry. Like you have three guys that have played a while with each other. Like they come in and they basically already have chemistry and it just builds from there and obviously helps the team out like it did. Yeah. Dan, what about the pay cut that ⁓ Jalen Brunson took? What was it? He's making thirty seven million. He I think he left ⁓ a hundred and thirteen million on the table or something in his contract. Yeah, I think it's something around around those lines, but around a hundred million plus he left by, you know, for the team. I'm not gonna say he just like left it, you know, just to kind of get rid of it, but he left it so we could build a championship to, you know, sign players, trade players and everything like that. He was heavily involved in getting Mikhail Bridges over, you know, five first round picks. That's why everybody's saying F them picks. And he has the highest contract on our team now. And the only reason we can get him. was because Jalen Brunson took that pay cut. He did it just so he could win. He is literally the definition of just the most unselfish player you can possibly imagine. And the heart of a champion to be even is that something we can see other superstars to start doing in the NBA next year or, you know, in years to come is maybe start taking the pay cuts? Yeah, I think in the years to come you'll see it. I don't think it'll be a a you know quick reaction or anything like that. I mean, I don't think like LeBron or Or Luca would be taking a pay cut. Steph Curry probably wouldn't. Like those top notch superstars won't be doing that. But if you have someone in a very similar position where they're the star of their team, they might not be, you know, the absolute top of the league or anything. I could definitely see that starting to happen in the NBA based off of what just happened here. Yeah. And I I feel like And I feel like he knows he he'll get the payday. eventually like they keep playing like this and two, I feel like it helps. Like his dad's the assistant coach there. So he'll take the pay cut to stay with his dad and kind of get coached by his dad and stuff. Just something special. And then later on, I mean, the Knicks will pay him or he can go somewhere else and find the bag if he's playing still at the high level. Well, whatever money he left on the table, he's definitely gonna make as a New York legend now. Yeah. And I I was talking to you about this after the game. I was like, I don't think Jalen Brunson is ready for the level of stardom that he's about to rise to in New York. And like he'll never have to pay for another drink in New York, ⁓ any type of ad deals. He is now the king of New York is what he's been done and and it fits him perfect. It really does. I mean, I I wish, you know, he does get his payday when it comes up. But I mean, even if not, he's I in my opinion, he solidified himself as the greatest Knicks of all time. And I say that with respect to a lot of the legends that the the Knicks have and everything like that. But we're in the modern era now. Team like competition is so strong. You're going against a seven foot four, like giant who can shoot threes, cross you up, and do everything in his power to be just the most fantasy type of player that you can possibly imagine. And he won against that. In my opinion, what Jalen Brunson did. Took the pay cut, led the city to a championship, you know, surrounded himself in really good media. He doesn't bring anything bad to the table ever. He's solidified himself as as the greatest nicket of all time, in my opinion. Yeah. No, and yeah, I just don't think he's he's I think he's gonna be a superstar and just the king of the city. Moving on here, just some other things. So it's the eighth different champion in eight years for the NBA. The parody's never been higher. And my question, Dan, is. Will there be a team of the twenties? Could the Knicks go back to back? There hasn't been a back to back champion yet in the twenties, so it's still open. Or is Wimby gonna take over and the Spurs will soon be the team of the twenty? So what I kind of thought about this, ⁓ I thought about this for a little bit. I think the Knicks are definitely this still the best team in the East, just based off of there's not really a lot of experience around on the East. Team teams are falling off, Bucks are getting old, Celtics are getting injured and old at the same time. He I mean, honestly, I don't think anyone knows what's going on with them. But like, you know, there's a lot of those teams out there and they really don't seem to have it together, specifically like the Knicks do. So the odds of us reaching, you know, a back to back championship is extremely high. But on the other side, Wemby's coming back with blood. Shea is coming back with blood. LeBron and Luca, if they're still together next season, LeBron's gonna have one hell of a last year so he's gonna be going out there as hard as he can. That's gonna be fun to see. I LeBron's announced his retirement, right? Yeah. Until he does. Yeah. So we'll see. I feel like the Knicks, they are like their biggest competitor will probably be the Celtics. And just seeing and seeing who they get this off season, 'cause I've heard of rumors that they're already they are willing to let Brown go or trade him away. So whoever they get back with that will I feel like the Celtics will be the biggest competitor. Anyone else, I don't think. Well, I did hear Wimby after the game. He said that ⁓ they were asking like how does it feel to lose the finals? And he was like, The only thing that sucks is I have to win a hundred games or play a hundred more games to get back here. Yeah, Wimby is Wimby's gonna be a problem. He is, but I feel like he needs to get more mental like toughness, mentally strong like you were training with the monks some more? Like after after their wins, like he just looked so like defeated and like he was just done for. Like the company would be like that the way they lost. I mean, yeah, but you gotta at least have a little bit more spirit and all. He was just like seemed like he like someone killed his doll. Like I get that, but you gotta be that way after it's over and kind of be a little bit more mentally strong throughout the series to be like, Hey, let's We still got this. We still got this. But to me it was like, Yeah, we lost. Like we we aren't we weren't that good. Like ⁓ what like Yeah, I mean no handshakes. No handshakes at the end of the series. That was like it he'd lost that badly. He that definitely took a huge toll on his mental. Is I mean, even with some inexperience on your side, you gotta be saying like, Hey, good game, good series, you know, and everything like that. But the whole team just left. I mean, that that loss stunned for them really badly in the end of the day. Tough. All right, one final question here, Dan. We normally say it for the end of the show, but I'm gonna save it for this segment here. Final question, we'll let you get out of here. So you've mentioned Jalen Brunson, greatest nick of all time. I was listening to the radio and I heard them talking about, you know, Hall of Fame. Is Jalen Brunson a Hall of Famer now? Right now, no. No, I don't think so. Yeah, really y yeah, in the history books, he's just ⁓ a champion. And you know, we have a new one every single season. New finals MVP every single season. I think Jalen's got a lot to prove left. ⁓ whether it's in scoring, whether it's in just team wins or a a lot of other things. You know, I always want to see someone stack up the resume a bit more before they reach the Hall of Fame. Cause there's a lot of great players that haven't even made it. Like Kenny on, you know, TNT or now ⁓ ESPN, he's a two time champion, great player and everything like that. He's not in the Hall of Fame. So I think Jalen's got, you know. bit more to go, but do I think he's gonna be a Hall of Famer by the end of his career? Absolutely. But even if he was like they gave him a sixty percent chance from what I was listening to. And I would say yes, he is a Hall of Famer. You cannot tell the history of the NBA now without Jalen Brunson. Yeah, but I say if he wins another championship then absolutely. Like if he if they go out and win next year I'd say yeah, definitely. But yeah, I think right now he still has a little bit more to prove like Yeah, I mean what it's his when did Luca get drafted? Like eight years ago? Did He's the same time. Yeah. So like he's got a lot to prove still. ⁓ can't just, you know, win a chip and call a career there yet. That would be the biggest fall off ever. But ⁓ he Hall of Famer in like, you know, ten year in five years. Yeah, absolutely. But but not now, I don't think. Not me. I'm gonna put him in. I think the basketball Hall of Fame is already one of the most saturated Hall of Famers, so I think you could easily put Jalen Brunson All right, that was my final question. Thank you, Dan, for coming on and shout out to the New York Knicks and their and their finals run and and winning the championship. Absolutely stellar stuff there. Shout out to all the New York fans too. Hopefully it didn't burn down. Hopefully. Thank you, Braden. Thank you, Ethan. All right. All right. All right, and we're back to do a couple more recaps and then some breaking news that just came out. Starting off with the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Vegas Golden Knights in game six. Three zero in Carolina's favor. The Hurricanes hoist their second Stanley Cup trophy. They won also in two thousand six. So exactly twenty years to the day they they win the they win the championship or the Stanley Cup. Shout out to some of the I guess key factors for their team. Rod Brindamore, the Carolina coach, also cap captained the Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup in two thousand six, and now he's won it again as their head coach. He's the seventh person in NHL history, the first since Toe Blake, what a name, to win the cup with the same franchise as both a player and a coach. And also, shout out to Brandon Bussey. What a name as well. Hockey's got some hockey's got incredible names. Hockey has the best names out there. Yeah. So Brandon Bussey, Carolina's goalie. He wasn't the goalie to start the Stanley Cup, but he's the Goalie to finish the Stanley Cup. I believe he came in in game three, ⁓ but he didn't allow a goal in the for the Kanes in game six and their victory. He's the first goaltender in NHL history to make his first three career playoff starts in the Stanley Cup final and win. And he was absolutely lights out in the three games he came in. So I think the last podcast I mentioned that it was one of the highest scoring Stanley Cups ever. And they switched the goalie and it slowly. dwindled down the goals a little a lot more. So Carolina's able to win it again. That was the team I was pulling for, ⁓ just because Vegas had already won it. I like to see a new champion. So a little parody in the Stanley Cup. Yeah, it's pretty nice. One of our buddies is a big Hurricanes fan also. No way. Yeah, Nick. Well they just come out of the woodworks, huh? Yeah. Well yeah, I think he's been a he he's been a fan for a little while though. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So shout I guess shout out to like the East Coast and the Florida teams. Like the Panthers won. twice, the Tampa Bay Lightning have won twice in the twenties, and now Carolina's one. They'll probably win it again next year. Strong possibility. Absolutely electric. ⁓ that was also going on during the UFC fight. So I was trying to flip back and forth to watch game six and then also like all the UFC fights going on. So it was a jam-packed weekend of sports. Moving on to the FIFA World Cup. We had our our soccer world cup preview Last episode we brought in our soccer expert Tavis, who, you know, talked a little mess about Team USA. Turns out he kinda was right. We a lot of things that he said did come true for Team USA. He said we played a very fun style of of soccer. We have ⁓ we keep five people back. I think people are calling it like the Pentagon or something of defense or whatever. So that's why he's the expert in FIFA. Yeah, that's why he's our he's our soccer expert. We'll bring him back on for the knockout rounds. But recapping, Team USA defeated Paraguay four one last Friday. ⁓ speaking of one of the players that he shouted out, Balagun, I think it's Falarin Balagun, had two goals. Could have been three, but there was an offsides called. ⁓ he becomes the first American since nineteen thirty to score multiple goals in a World Cup game. Team USA, I didn't get to watch the whole thing. I had to go back and watch some of the highlights to catch up. I watched the like extended highlights on YouTube. But from what I could tell, it is a very fun style of soccer. We like to press. I think they it's something to do with our head coach. He likes to press the ball and move, you know, get it get action early. And, you know, sh I mean Paraguay, people are saying like it wasn't, you know, stout competition or anything, but still like I think USA I heard that they've only scored four goals. and six of eleven World Cups that they've been in. So we've already scored four in one game. So we score one more. We're already looking a lot better. But I think odds have shifted a little bit. This team USA has surprised a lot of people. Now I get so don't overreact to one game. Team USA wins FIFA. Call I say Team USA wins it all, calling it right now. Okay. That's a Ethan comes on like once every couple months. So he's gonna take a bold prediction there. There's my bold prediction right there. Team USA all the way. Well, if you want to catch up on Team USA, their next game is Friday, June nineteenth at two PM. They're taking on Australia in Seattle. So I think it's been fun. So far the World Cup's been great. I know there's been a lot of the ⁓ there was a there's some German super fan going around, Freddie. I think it's Freddie LA seven on Twitter. Basically he's gone around to like Waffle House, Wendy's, Chili's. He's talking about how awesome America is. He's like, there's just food everywhere. I saw JJ Watt put him up in a hotel in Houston so he could watch like so I think he's there for the Germany game in Houston and he's also going to like Kansas City and he's going to Canada. He's here for like six weeks. And he also was ⁓ he's gonna get to meet Ella Langley. He said he on the he's gone through like the whole like Southeast, like he's just on a road trip having fun, documentary experience in America. So the t the tour of America is what he's on right now. Yeah, I think he went to go see Auburn Stadium. He went and saw LSU He I mean, he's been anywhere and everywhere. He's it's it's pretty fun. If you haven't seen his Twitter, go check it out. But he's kinda been the one that he's captivated us this week, us Americans, so shout out Freddie. And then ⁓ speaking of some other fans here in Dallas, so Japan was taking on the Netherlands. Shout out to the Japan fans who were cleaning their cleaning all their trash up before they left ATT. So they brought their own trash bags, I think. Wow. They are Yeah. Just a gr what a great showing for the World Cup in the US so far. I think ⁓ World Cup fever has has struck all the all the all the casual fans. And now since especially since Team USA looks so dominant, I think everyone's invested now. I think we're gonna see, you know, World Cup fever is gonna keep spiking, especially as USA goes farther in this tournament. I mean, I believe right now as we speak, Iran and New Zealand are playing. ⁓ okay, so ⁓ just based on like the You know, full disclosure, we're on Monday. I think I saw the all three games so far I've ended in ties. Yeah. Just today. I'm not a fan of that, but this game right now is a tie one one. Yeah, so we could possibly see a full tie day. Which I heard that if which with all the stuff going on right now, that if the USA finishes second in their group and Iran finishes second in their group, we will face them in the knockouts first round in Cowboys Stadium. That would be electric. That that'd be pretty cool. But I'd rather just finish first in our group. Let's win it. Yeah. Let's like I said, we're winning it all. Yeah. USA all the way. We're taking it. That's that's my slogan. USA all the way. And some final stuff here, breaking news. And this is kind of the big story that we as we were recording this kind of came out. Just came out, actually, as we were speaking. Go ahead, Ethan. You can break it. Break the breaking news. Or Beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders, their quarterback Brendan Swarzby, who has been in a big legal legal battle. Everyone should know because it's been going on for months and months. We've covered it here on the podcast. He just came out and said he's going into the supplemental draft. So he will not be playing in college this year. So there's that for all the people that didn't like him playing or whatever. You got your way and guess he's gonna go dominate. In the NFL. Yeah, I think it's due to a lot of the backlash. People were saying that he was the problem with college football. I think but I think I talked about it last episode, just some of the pressure that he was gonna have to face this season and go into all the different areas. But I get that. But if you're gonna be so against gambling and all this, like I get it. Okay. He never gambled against his team. He always gambled like players on his team and all. And if you're the NCAA, I get that you want to Say this is bad and all, which it may be, but also then you cannot associate yourself with any gambling thing ever. DraftKings, prize picks, any of this stuff you should not associate with. And y'all are part, and I'm pretty sure they're partners with almost all of them. So it's kind of hypocritical to say, hey, we are frowned upon gambling, but also, hey, give us that bag of money and we will run your ads and we will do anything you want. I'm I'm glad you say that with the Texas Tech hat on. I'm gonna play devil's advocate. Now not to mention I have the same Texas Tech hat back here behind me. Like I'm also a Texas Tech guy. They just don't wanna play devil's advocate with this. There's something to be with whenever a player's gambling on his team, they do have more insight, you know, whether a guy is hurt or injured or how he's feeling going to a game. They know the game plan. So I mean, when you're gambling on your team I mean, I get that, but you're gambling with your own money. Like you're not like It's not anything else. Like But it opens kind of Pandora's box of like, okay, well if this is acceptable then Well, guess what? They opened Pandora's box when they started paying players. So Yeah. I that's also what I said last podcast. I was like, this they've they've kind of become a shell organization because they can't enforce any of the NIL stuff going on. Yeah. Like you have all these in I like I mean, we're the big I NIL has helped tech tremendously. I love it. But also like you opened up this kind of box of kind of some shady stuff. Like it seems like every Monday I think we've had breaking news with this with Brandon Swordsman's situation. I mean, I get it if he is like going against his team and betting like, hey, this is gonna happen but he was betting for his team. Now yes, he won quite a bit of money and all, but I mean, I don't know. I just feel like that's kind of like I get it. Like I I understand if you are wanting to say no gambling or anything else and You shouldn't associate yourself with any gambling like DraftKings, prize picks, any of that. Like so. But moving on to the supplemental draft process, if anyone is not clear how that works, I wasn't clear how that works, but a quick Google search, I've learned that there's five parameters for it. So starting off, there's a weighted lottery. Teams are divided into three groups based on the previous season standings. Teams with six or fewer wins, and then the remaining non playoff teams and the fourteen playoff teams. So That is gonna determine the order for the groups. So then there's also a blind bidding process. Teams privately submit bids for eligible players by designating which round of next year's draft they are willing to use on that player. So rounds one through seven, you know, if say the Cowboys wanna draft Swesby, they can say we want to use our first round pick next year and get and get ⁓ And if, you know, Cleveland Browns we want to use a second round pick, then it goes to the Cowboys. If the Browns and the Cowboys both say we want to use the first round pick on them, Well then it goes to the random weighted lottery order. And then a the pick forfeiture. If a team wins a player in the supplemental draft, they must forfeit that equivalent pick in the following year's NFL draft. Also, there's not a the supplemental draft doesn't take place every year. There has to be a league vote and approve the eligible players or prospects as they call them. So and also if a player goes undrafted in the supplemental draft, then it becomes a he becomes a free agent and he can sign with any NFL. See, I've never honestly heard of the supplemental draft until kind of this this year. Like I've heard of like the rule five draft in like baseball. I know you can get like picks like I think some teams will go out and pick NFL players in the rule five draft and stuff like that. I guess that may be what, maybe similar to the NFL's supplemental draft kind of, like their yeah, secondary draft. I've never heard of it and I've followed the NFL for I think twenty years now. And it's just something I don't think there's ever been a high enough caliber player. I think it's gone on before, but like the caliber. Are you looking up when the last supplemental draft was? Yeah. This is live research on Brody Pod. Let's see here. So the last draft was twenty nineteen. Did it say who those like notable players that came out of that was? So the last player selected in the supplemental draft was safety Jalen Thomas. Thompson. Okay Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the twenty nineteen supplemental draft. ⁓ let's see. Can we I do like the blind bidding process where you're you just kinda grade where you'd want to take Soresby. I imagine a lot of teams are gonna use a first round pick on ⁓ So they'll just go to, you know, whichever team has the worst record. Yeah. I'm I wonder if they I mean, obviously I don't think it is. I would I wonder if it's like televised or something. Like that would be pretty cool to kind of watch. Should be to do another draft and like I I imagine it's gonna be in June or maybe it's July. So the okay, so twenty nineteen was so notable NFL supplemental draft picks. Twenty nineteen, Jalen Thompson, twenty twelve Josh Gordon selected in the second round by Cleveland Browns. ⁓ And then you have twenty eleven Terrell Pryor, quarterback who was drafted in the third round by the Oakland Raiders. I did not know Josh Gordon was a supplemental draft guy. Yeah, I didn't either. Should be interesting then. Maybe they will televise it with Soresby. Maybe there'll like gambling odds on when you think Soresby will be taken. Hey, I bet you he I bet you I bet you he takes his chance on that and picks his So I think it's a good way to wrap up the just ⁓ the Soresby saga that's been going on. It's what all demon I'll call it. It's been a lot of chaos in the last really the last month a lot of information's come out, but really it's been something that's taken over for the last couple of months since he signed with tech and this whole story's broke, so I think honestly it'll be wrapped up and we won't have to deal with it anymore. It sucks for Texas Tech, you're losing a great quarterback and Yeah, you put all your eggs in that basket and I believe he gets to keep any of the money that he was promised. I think that's all g N I L's all guaranteed. Nah I I bet it's not. I bet they have in the contract, I bet they have he has to suit up for a game. I guess they have, yeah, rules around that, like, hey, you you're guaranteed this money if you play like yeah, you play start a game for us and right. Like it's guaranteed if you got hurt or whatever, not if you gambled. But I okay, back to this. Do you think that Cincinnati should be penalized for them 'cause they knew about it. Did they actually know about it though? They they absolutely they absolutely knew about it. I guarantee you. I yeah. I I will bet money, I will bet my life that That's fine you're betting some that someone in Cincinnati that knew Cincinnati whatever It was the one that said like told on Swarzby. Well, should Indiana be penalized then? Because he that was the team that he was actually placing the bets on. I mean, exact yeah. So should these teams that 'cause these teams you can't tell me they didn't know about it. Like you can't tell me that they didn't hear about it or whatever. I think Cincinnati's harder, but I think like Indiana, like there's at least there were bets placed. Like maybe the program should also be looked at. Yeah. And honestly, that was before NIO, right? Yeah. So that was like Ston' I was like back in the like it was a lot stricker to back then. But people better be more like I've heard of a lot of coaches in different schools doing this stuff too. Like if you're gonna get mad at tech, you better get mad at a lot of schools. I think this is more prevalent than people think. Yeah, and it's like I mean, you get mad at tech. Like everyone's mad at tech because he was ruled to play, but it's like, I mean, we didn't we weren't the judge. Yeah. Like we didn't have any I mean, if y it was any other team They would be the same way as tech is wanting their star quarterback to play. Like he didn't place any bets at tech. It's just I mean he didn't play the history of where he was. I think I've seen he placed like what was his. It was ninety thousand dollars worth of bets. Yeah. Nine thousand bets. Well yeah, worth ninety thousand dollars. Yeah. I mean, shit. I wish I could I wish I could do that. Honestly, we hope Soresby's doing well and that he's e the gambling addiction that he's getting that. fix, but it's just I'm kinda gl part of me is glad the situation's over. Like I don't have to deal with it anymore. So I I was saying last podcast I was like, dude, whenever they go to these other schools and play, he's gonna get oooed and he's gonna get a lot of reaction from those fans. Well too, everyone's saying all these teams are going to boycott. It's like, well the schedule's already out. What are you gonna do? Forfeit? I they couldn't they couldn't boycott. Not this year. You forfeit or whatever, but Yeah, I think honestly he was just kind of tired of the whole situation, wanted to move on with his life. So I don't blame him. And with I mean, the Big Twelve came out today or last night and filed another lawsuit. So I'm wondering if they didn't know, hey, there's this other lawsuit and it's not maybe looking good, why don't you just go ahead and enter the draft and we will take our our we'll lick our wounds and look on to Hammond getting healthy and then And seeing what's out there maybe next year in the port. I'd like to see where Texas Tech's odds fall now after Sworesby's gone, but you know, I'm still gonna look forward to the Red Raiders this season. Yeah. Still gonna watch them. Yeah. But with that, we can get into closing out the show. ⁓ it might have been a little bit longer one than we anticipated, but actually, you know what? I said that in the beginning. I said we went longer last time. So I feel like every time I come on, it's a little bit longer. Yeah. But we just we just we like to talk. Obviously it's a podcast. ⁓ but thank you everyone for listening. Be sure to like and subscribe on YouTube, turn on those notifications, follow us on Spotify, right?
