- 1:38again. He is a guy that's been in
- 1:41baseball for 27 years. So ladies and gentlemen, we are
- 1:46now talking to 27 year MLB official scorer Howie Carpet.
- 1:51Howie, what's up, my friend? What's up gentlemen?
- 1:54Good to be back. Absolutely.
- 1:55We're very happy to have you on, man.
- 1:57And I'm not very happy over the last two games for the New York
- 2:00Yankees. I don't know.
- 2:02No, I do not know what's going on with the Yankees.
- 2:05I know it's early and the Yankees have had pretty good.
- 2:09Their season's been pretty good. Their their pitching has been
- 2:11dominant. Schlittler didn't look good in
- 2:14his last start. We all know what this team is
- 2:16going to be this year if this pitching staff can stay at 100%.
- 2:20What do you think is gone on in the last two games against an
- 2:23ace team that is not expected to have a good pitching staff but a
- 2:27very good offensive lineup? Well, the bottom of the order
- 2:31has been a problem early on, but you can't get too crazy in 12
- 2:34games. I mean, Brian McMahon has shown
- 2:37in the past that he doesn't hit. You know, Caballero is not a
- 2:41starting player, so that's been exposed a little bit.
- 2:44Austin Wells will hit. Right now.
- 2:46He's cold. The weather's cold.
- 2:48You know, the better hitters are going to heat up when the
- 2:50weather gets better. You know Wells, Wells can hit.
- 2:53He's hit throughout his minor league career.
- 2:55Last year was almost like an aberration.
- 2:57He's had some good at bats. He hasn't had a lot of luck in
- 3:01the early going, but you know, it's helped bring into focus at
- 3:04the bottom of the order is struggling now.
- 3:06I think Trent Grisham at the top of the order has struggled.
- 3:10You know, that could be a mistake, you know, that they
- 3:12made during the offseason giving him the qualifying offer.
- 3:15I mean, they felt he was, he was going to turn down the offer as
- 3:19if there was a market out there, something they may have
- 3:21miscalculated on. I personally, I would have gave
- 3:24the offer to Devin Williams because he would not have
- 3:27accepted it and they would have got that draft pick that they
- 3:30coveted. But right now they're stuck with
- 3:32Grisham at 22 million a year. I don't think he's a $22 million
- 3:36player and he's not a top of the lineup type hitter.
- 3:39So they have Judge it too. Judge is off to a slow start.
- 3:44Look for him to duplicate what he did last year.
- 3:47He may not reach those heights that that was a tremendous all
- 3:51around season that he had last year, you know, in all offensive
- 3:54categories to expect him to reach those same heights.
- 3:58It just doesn't happen two years in a row.
- 4:00But he's batting second and someone pointed out to me and I
- 4:03kind of knew it myself, you know, They bat him second to the
- 4:07ad for the analytical formula of getting him more at bats.
- 4:11But when the the lineup comes around, the guys batting in
- 4:15front of him are 789 and 1, so he's coming up a lot of times
- 4:19leading off. He's already let off an inning 7
- 4:22times this year batting second, which means Grisham has ended an
- 4:27inning 7 times, including with men on base.
- 4:30So they really have to assess, you know, what their batting
- 4:33water is like, for one thing. But I think their offense will
- 4:36click a little better when the weather gets warm.
- 4:38As you mentioned, Errol, their pitching has been outstanding.
- 4:41Ryan Weathers was terrific today, gave up one run, pitched
- 4:458 innings, and he gave the Yankees all they could handle
- 4:48that they needed and they just couldn't hit Jeffrey Springs,
- 4:51who was a little better than Ryan Weathers.
- 4:54Now the last two nights, you know, today they really have a
- 4:56whole lot of opportunities. Or to give them credit, they
- 5:00stole three bases. So they tried to make something
- 5:02happen. When they did get guys on last
- 5:04night, they just didn't come through in the clutch, so I
- 5:07think they'll be better in that category.
- 5:09But you know, if the bottom of the order continues to struggle,
- 5:13it's going to be tough to score runs against the better
- 5:15pitchers. All right, so Spencer Jones is a
- 5:17guy that a lot of people want to see in the majors now.
- 5:21Right now he's batting 206 in the Miners, but he still has two
- 5:24home runs. He still has 9 RBIs.
- 5:26He has seven hits and 34 at bats.
- 5:29This guy can give the Yankees a little bit of an edge.
- 5:32I don't know if he's going to hit first, but you could put him
- 5:34in the middle of the lineup and see how he fits.
- 5:37Why aren't the Yankees thinking about bringing this guy up?
- 5:39I, I don't get it. I know he's not hitting for
- 5:42average right now, but this kid has a tremendous amount of
- 5:45power. You saw what he did in in spring
- 5:47training. He changed his stance to a Otani
- 5:50stance. I think this guy can add a
- 5:52little bit of edge in that line up.
- 5:53Why aren't the Yankees thinking about bringing this kid up?
- 5:56Well, right now he has no spot in the outfield for one thing.
- 5:59And the other thing is he's what they already have.
- 6:02They have power in their outfield.
- 6:04They need guys to not strike out as much, and Jones is striking
- 6:08out a ton. That has not improved a whole
- 6:11lot. I'd like to see Jason Dominguez
- 6:13up here and give him the shot. You know, they've been playing
- 6:16him in center field in the minor leagues.
- 6:18Maybe they finally woke up and get him back to his more natural
- 6:21spot when they threw him in left field.
- 6:23You got to remember the left field, the Yankee Stadium is a
- 6:26very difficult position to play when you haven't had the
- 6:30experience of playing it. So this narrative developed that
- 6:34he's not a good outfielder. You know, he had some struggles.
- 6:37He's a 23 year old kid. Yeah, he's had some struggles
- 6:41batting right-handed, but at least he showed some flashes
- 6:44last year. And they need guys who are not
- 6:46going to strike out as much. They still have too many
- 6:49strikeouts in that lineup. And I think because Jones is
- 6:52striking out a ton, it's kind of holding them back.
- 6:55Now. They may bring them up, as you
- 6:56mentioned, to get a spark. But again, this offense needs
- 7:00less strikeouts. Put the ball in play and make
- 7:04things happen. Finally, after years of being,
- 7:07you know, ignorant of the stolen base, they're finally trying to
- 7:10steal bases, thankfully, to make some things happen.
- 7:14They tried to do that today. And they almost got Jeffrey
- 7:16Springs off his game. You know, people got to realize
- 7:20just a stolen based threat can make a pitcher make a mistake,
- 7:24you know, to have them concentrate and get distracted.
- 7:28Now they almost did that today. You know, it didn't workout.
- 7:31But thankfully, they have some a little more athleticism in their
- 7:35lineup that they've had the past few years.
- 7:37Right now, you know, to me, I would bat Jazz Chisholm first.
- 7:41I know he doesn't get on base a ton.
- 7:43I know they're in love with this on base percentage at the top of
- 7:47the order. But when he does get on, he
- 7:49distracts the pitcher and you know, look, you know, you open
- 7:53the base for Judge, they're probably going to walk them.
- 7:55So bat Judge 3rd and put somebody in between.
- 7:59You know, two years ago when they had Juan Soto hitting
- 8:02second, they never stole with the lead off, man.
- 8:05They weren't going to walk Soto to pitch the judge with the open
- 8:09base. But they never stole the base
- 8:11with the lead off. Guy Volpe let off for a while,
- 8:14you know, then Grisham let off. They don't take advantage of
- 8:18what you know, the new rules are offering them at times.
- 8:21And then they look like they look very flat.
- 8:23That against the guy who really dominated them today.
- 8:26So I want to go to the pitching side of it.
- 8:28They've been had a historically good start.
- 8:29Even when it admits their two losses of the A's, they still
- 8:31pitch very well. You look at the depth that they
- 8:33have in that rotation. Now, you mentioned that maybe
- 8:34they should have brought back Devin Williams.
- 8:36You could have maybe helped with that bullpen a little more.
- 8:39But we've seen the Yankees bullpens be flashy, big name
- 8:42relievers that they get overpaid and they don't fizzle out as
- 8:44much. So what are your thoughts of the
- 8:46overall impressions with the pitching depth that they've had
- 8:48this season and even the kids in their their system?
- 8:50Well, Speedy, I think you misheard me.
- 8:51I didn't say they should bring him back Devin Williams.
- 8:53I said they should have. They should have made him the
- 8:55qualifying offer because he never would would have accepted
- 8:58it and they wanted. They want to get a draft pick.
- 9:02You have a clue there, though. They're going to have to tweak
- 9:04that bullpen. I don't think David Begnaar is
- 9:07really reliable over a whole season.
- 9:09As you see, he's a little bit of an adventure when he comes in
- 9:12now. He's gotten out of it a couple
- 9:13of times. Last night he may have been a
- 9:15little fatigued, but he only gave up one run even though they
- 9:18had second and third and and nobody out in the ninth inning.
- 9:22But I think they're going to have to make some changes in
- 9:24that bullpen and maybe use some of their starting depth.
- 9:28If Louis heel was more reliable with his command, I would try
- 9:32him as a closer. He's got dynamite stuff to where
- 9:35he can strike out and blow guys away.
- 9:37The problem is he gets a little, he misses the plate and loses
- 9:41command and starts to walk people.
- 9:43So they're a little gun shy and maybe trying that move.
- 9:45But that's something that they make.
- 9:47They're going to have to tweak as the season goes on.
- 9:52Reliable at this point. Tim Hill luckily has been
- 9:55reliable, but he can only pitch to a couple of batters.
- 9:58They've gotten something out of Brett Hedrick, which is a little
- 10:01surprising because I wasn't that impressed with him.
- 10:03But I think they're going to have to tweak the bull, the back
- 10:06end of the bullpen at some point.
- 10:08I don't trust Camilo Doval. He's too erratic, gets wild at
- 10:12times. He was in San Francisco when he
- 10:14was a closer. So they have some unreliable
- 10:17arms that they're really going to have to tweak, you know, at
- 10:20some point during the season. That's something and you can
- 10:23fix. You know, it's not unfixable,
- 10:25which is a good thing. And also they're eight and four,
- 10:28even though they haven't hit, they're getting the great
- 10:30starting pitching. You know, their their rotation's
- 10:33been dynamite. Schlittler had a little bit of a
- 10:35problem in the third inning. I thought that he got a little
- 10:38distracted when Max Muncie reached on an infield hit where
- 10:43where, you know, he made a great pitch and Muncie got lucky and
- 10:46put it in play. And you could see when they
- 10:48showed Schlittler in in that, you know, isolated shot, he
- 10:52looked like he he's a little frustrated that the guy got on,
- 10:55even though he made a great pitch and he may have got a
- 10:57little distracted. So they ended up with three runs
- 11:00in the inning. But they're starting pitching is
- 11:02reliable. It's going to get better when
- 11:04Cole and Rodan come back. You know, Clark Schmidt may come
- 11:07back in the second-half. You know, if these guys stay
- 11:09healthy, they have, they have maybe the best starting rotation
- 11:12in the league. So they're relying on that and
- 11:14that's been carrying them so far.
- 11:16Hey, thanks. How for coming on?
- 11:18Talk to me a little bit about Judge.
- 11:20You know, obviously he's getting off to a slow start and whatnot,
- 11:23but just kind of give me the background.
- 11:24What you think is going to, you know, is his back still hurt?
- 11:27Is he in pain? Or do you think that, you know,
- 11:29he's going to turn around as the season go on?
- 11:31It's just too cold outside. Tell me a little bit what you
- 11:34think about Judge. I think all those factors, don't
- 11:36forget he got off to a slow start two years ago and still
- 11:39won the MVP, had that terrible April where the fans were booing
- 11:43him. He hit like what, 160 for the
- 11:45whole month and then all of a sudden he took off.
- 11:47You know, it's funny, he was in the WBC and a lot of these guys,
- 11:51pitchers and hitters that were in the WBC, most of them are off
- 11:56the slow starts, which is kind of weird.
- 11:58But Joe Girardi made a good point on the broadcast last
- 12:01night. I actually, I scored five of
- 12:03these six games when I was home last night.
- 12:05And Girardi said it's something that was interesting.
- 12:08He said, you know, you gear up for this WBC, a highly emotional
- 12:12and intense competition for two weeks after you've been in
- 12:16spring training, then you go back to spring training, see,
- 12:19like you come off that emotional plateau and then all of a sudden
- 12:23you're in the regular season. We have to gear it up again.
- 12:26I'm not worried about Judge. You know, he's going to come
- 12:29around. He may not hit 330 like he did
- 12:31last year, but he's going to put up the numbers.
- 12:33I mean, he's too good a hitter. He's not past his prime.
- 12:36You know, Bellinger's off a little slow too behind them.
- 12:40So, you know, they're kind of challenging Judge right now.
- 12:42But if he starts hitting, they're not going to challenge
- 12:45him as much Quentin. So I, I think, I think he'll be
- 12:47OK. You know, I I think he'll come
- 12:50around and get to his numbers, but you know, it's going to
- 12:52still be up to the rest of the lineup.
- 12:54Giancarlo Stanton got off to a great start.
- 12:57He's cooled off a little bit. You know, Chisholm is up and
- 13:00down. He's off slow.
- 13:01They have like 5 hitters who are not really doing a whole lot.
- 13:05So that's kind of like crippling the lineup.
- 13:07We are talking to 27 year MLB official scorer Howie Carpet.
- 13:10He's been on our show before knows his Yankees, There's no
- 13:13question. So I want to get into the New
- 13:15York Mets and there's a lot of questions with this team
- 13:19starting, they can't hit. They bring in Jorge Polanco,
- 13:23they don't have a position for him.
- 13:24They tried to move in the first base.
- 13:26Now they're thinking Beatty's in everyday first baseman for this
- 13:29team. Then you bring in guys like
- 13:32Simeon, he's up and he's down. Beau Burchett, he can't.
- 13:35He's been striking out a lot. This whole lineup has had a
- 13:38problem hitting the ball. Soto can't stay healthy.
- 13:41Lindor can't hit the ball. What's going on with the New
- 13:43York Mets? Well, Lindor will hit.
- 13:45He's another season's perennial slow starter.
- 13:48I have. I'm not worried about Lindor,
- 13:50but Shet will hit. You know, when guys go to a new
- 13:53team in a new a new city, especially when they come to New
- 13:57York, it's always, you know, most guys get off the slow
- 14:00starts. Look at Alonzo in Baltimore.
- 14:02He's struggling. He's in a new team.
- 14:04The weather's been cold. He's hitting like 180.
- 14:07You know, sometimes you get off the slow starts.
- 14:09Now with the Mets, they're rolling the dice in the infield
- 14:12at the corner spots. You can see with Bichette, he's
- 14:15a little in between on certain ground balls, like that slow
- 14:19roller. He's trying to backhand instead
- 14:21of bare hand. You know, trying to backhand it
- 14:24and throw a guy out at first is going to cost you maybe a split
- 14:27second, which could, you know, be the difference between a
- 14:30runner being safe and out. That's technique.
- 14:33He's got to get a little experience and work with that,
- 14:35you know, picking it up barehanded.
- 14:37He's never had to do that at shortstop.
- 14:39He certainly charge balls at shortstop, but you know, it's a
- 14:42whole different game over there there, excuse the pun, at third
- 14:45base. Now he's playing Polanco at
- 14:47first, who's inexperienced. So far so good.
- 14:50But you got to worry about, you know, the pick off throws at 1st
- 14:53and the three one play on the flip to the pitcher.
- 14:56You know that that takes experience.
- 14:58It's it's a weird dynamic that they're having in the infield.
- 15:02They brought in a 35 year old Marcus semi in the play second.
- 15:05You know, you don't know how much range he still has left and
- 15:08then you're putting Polanco at first.
- 15:10So far, you know, they they've been OK.
- 15:12They're winning tonight behind Lane McLane has been terrific so
- 15:15far, you know, and they're starting pitching has been a
- 15:18little better and the bullpen is produced.
- 15:20So if they're doing that, they'll be okay for a while.
- 15:24But you know, the divisions weird this year, my Miami is,
- 15:26you know, a real pesky team. They're going to be a lot of
- 15:29trouble for a lot of teams. They don't strike out.
- 15:31They have some pretty good arms. So it's going to be crazy the
- 15:34whole the whole season. The Mets are going to have to,
- 15:37you know, click at some point, get it all together.
- 15:39Hope Soto gets back to me. A key for them is Alvarez.
- 15:43If Alvarez is hitting, he can really make that line up deep.
- 15:46Mendoza, there's a lot of people as far as Med fans are concerned
- 15:51all over social media that's been complaining about him.
- 15:53They want his head. They want him to be fired before
- 15:56the season's end. If this team doesn't find a way
- 15:59to play at elite level with the talent that they have, the money
- 16:02that Stearns has spent form from Uncle Stevie in the offseason,
- 16:07you would think that this team should be an elite team.
- 16:09They fell apart at the end of the season last year, fell out
- 16:12of the playoffs. What do you think Stearns needs
- 16:15to do to to keep his job and Mendoza keep his job?
- 16:18Because if this team doesn't make the playoffs this year,
- 16:21Stern should be fired. There's no reason why he
- 16:23shouldn't be fired. And Mendoza if if they're not an
- 16:27elite team or at least second place in the National League
- 16:31East before the All Star break, don't you think that Mendoza
- 16:34might be his? His head might be cut off and
- 16:38and sent shipping on a on a golf course.
- 16:40Mendoza's on the hot seat. I don't think Stearns is.
- 16:43I think Stearns is safe even if they don't make the playoffs.
- 16:46Mendoza would take the fall if they missed the playoffs this
- 16:49time around. They have to make the playoffs.
- 16:52You know that. That's a must.
- 16:53If they miss it again, you know, like they did last year, that's
- 16:57kind of inexcusable unless there's just a rash of injuries
- 17:00that cripple them now. So far, Luis Robert Junior's off
- 17:03to a good start in center field. Carson Binge is not hit, you
- 17:07know, yet, so you don't know what you're going to get it get
- 17:10out of him as a Rook. You know, you had that great
- 17:12spring, but he wasn't facing a lot of good pitching.
- 17:14You know, you face a lot of different arms, arms that are
- 17:17not even going to be in the major leagues in spring
- 17:19training. Now you're facing the A-Team, so
- 17:21to speak. So and I like Brett Beatty, I
- 17:24always did. I think he's a nice player.
- 17:26You know, he's performed pretty well.
- 17:28Vientos is up and down. He had that one hot stretch over
- 17:31the weekend, but he's kind of like gone back to to what he was
- 17:34last season. They haven't they have talent
- 17:36there. They have have a pretty good
- 17:38team. Again, rolling a dice at the
- 17:40corner positions in the infield could be costly at time.
- 17:43So far it hasn't hasn't panned out that way.
- 17:47But now they went tonight they're they're 8:00 and 4:00.
- 17:49So that's what you want to be. But Howie, that's the problem.
- 17:52Jorge Polanco is not a first baseman.
- 17:54He's never played first base in his career.
- 17:56Beau Bichette has never played third base.
- 17:58How could you tell me if this team doesn't make the playoffs,
- 18:02how does Stearns keep his job? You took you spun the wheel and
- 18:05made the deal. You brought these two guys in.
- 18:08They've never played those positions.
- 18:10And the only reason why you brought them in because you made
- 18:12a mistake with Pete Alonso and for some reason you didn't want
- 18:15to keep Brandon Nimmo there. So how does this make sense?
- 18:19Stearns is a cone guy. He's not going to get rid of him
- 18:22that easily. I'm telling you, he's a cone
- 18:24guy, man. Those who would take the fall if
- 18:27they don't make the playoffs. So, you know, look, if they're
- 18:30if they win tonight, they're eight and four.
- 18:32You know, you go 8 and four, win 8 out of every 12 games.
- 18:35You're doing OK so far. They're OK.
- 18:37They haven't really played the division yet.
- 18:39You know, they have to win the games in the division.
- 18:41You got to see. I mean, I agree with you with
- 18:43their rolling the dice at the corner infield positions.
- 18:46I said it when they made those moves, you know, bringing in
- 18:49Polanco to play first and never played first.
- 18:51Bichette. Bichette seemed to be a Plan B
- 18:53after they got burned on Kyle Tucker.
- 18:56They thought they were going to get Kyle Tucker and then play
- 18:58Brett Beatty at third. Now they're using Brady around,
- 19:01you know, Beatty at different positions, you know, in the
- 19:04infield and the outfield. Bichette will hit.
- 19:07I mean, he's a hitter. That's been his track record.
- 19:09Whether he can, you know, survive there defensively,
- 19:12that's another story. Can he hit New York?
- 19:14That's the question. He'll hit New York.
- 19:17He will, I guarantee. It may take a little while, but
- 19:19he'll get there. We've seen this Lindor, when he
- 19:23came to the Mets, he wasn't hitting very well.
- 19:25It took him two years until he figured it out.
- 19:27This guy's getting paid. He is the fifth highest paid
- 19:30player, 4th actually highest paid player in the major
- 19:33leagues. He's making more money than
- 19:35Aaron Judge is making a year. And this is what you're playing.
- 19:38You're paying your third baseman.
- 19:40He's batting what, 179 right now, 178 maybe he hits.
- 19:45Even if he hits, if he's hitting 23238, that to me is a bad
- 19:49season. And that's what you're you're
- 19:51putting your money. That's what you invested.
- 19:52Forty, $647,000,000 into a player that's never played third
- 19:56base and can't hit a lick right now in in Citi Field.
- 19:59Yeah, but you're talking about a guy has played twelve games and
- 20:02has a track record for hitting. You got to give him a little bit
- 20:05of a chance. Let's see where they are 40
- 20:07games in. To me, that's a that's a
- 20:10benchmark. We might have to come back to
- 20:11this. Me and you might have to come
- 20:13back to this. That's right.
- 20:14We might have to come back to this.
- 20:16Fair enough, all. Right, I want to shift gears a
- 20:18little bit to the. The other contrary has gone
- 20:20early in the season with the, yeah, the ABS system and the
- 20:22challenge system. You've seen with a lot of these
- 20:24players and so far I believe it's like 58% of them have been
- 20:27challenged correctly. And a lot of a lot of managers,
- 20:30even obviously a lot of umpires have already had issues with it.
- 20:32What are your thoughts as a score like seeing all this these
- 20:36calls that are being made and being overturned?
- 20:38I like it and I don't like it. What I don't like is that the
- 20:40fact that the bull can just clip that line and it's a strike.
- 20:45To me, it should be at least half the ball in that zone.
- 20:49You know, David Cohen in spring training said that the ABS is
- 20:53going to shrink the shrink the strike zone.
- 20:55I disagree and I told them I said I don't agree with that
- 20:58because the ball is about 3 inches wide.
- 21:01So if it clips the strike zone, basically it's expanding the
- 21:05strike zone. I think also, you know, they
- 21:08keep their challenges if they keep getting them right, I think
- 21:12they're going to have to put a limit on how many you can use in
- 21:14the game. And the the real interesting
- 21:17thing about the ABS is strategically how they're using
- 21:20it. Like some guys are calling for
- 21:22it in these bad spots and then you're running out of challenges
- 21:26when you like to have them in big spots.
- 21:27And like the late innings that's happened today where the Yankees
- 21:31and the A's both, you know, used up their challenges by the 6th
- 21:34inning. You know, there was some some
- 21:36guys, you know, have ridiculous challenges, you know, to where
- 21:40they think a ball's a ball off the plate and they're getting
- 21:43clipped. I think that's why the 58% shows
- 21:46up that the ball is just clipping the zone.
- 21:49You got to remember the strike zone is an imaginary zone.
- 21:52It's not a 3D type zone. You know, people like to say,
- 21:56oh, tennis, they use it on on the lines on the court.
- 21:59But those are those are demarcation lines that are black
- 22:02and white. You know, you can see those on
- 22:05the court. Baseball, the strike zone is
- 22:07imaginary and it changes for each player.
- 22:10So, you know, there's a little bit of, you know, uncertainty
- 22:13with the ABS calls, but so far, you know, it's worked out pretty
- 22:16good. At least it's not, you know,
- 22:18delaying the game. It happens quick and the fans
- 22:20love it. I mean, you know, they watch the
- 22:22video board to see what's it going to be.
- 22:24Is it going to be a ball, going to be a strike?
- 22:26You know, a couple of games have ended on the ABS challenge.
- 22:30We had an ABS challenge on the first pitch of a game the other
- 22:33night. So there's some unique things to
- 22:35it. To me, strategically, you got to
- 22:37use it the right way and trust certain people are going to make
- 22:40those calls. Come on, Howie, you're an old
- 22:42time guy. You really like this ABS this is
- 22:46garbage. It's just hurting baseball.
- 22:48These new rules, these new machines.
- 22:50Let's use AI now. Let's you know what, we don't
- 22:53even need a call strikes. Why don't we just lop it over
- 22:56the plate and see who can hit a home run?
- 22:58That's what it is now, if baseball is just become just
- 23:01ridiculous, you have plate, you have bases now the size of pizza
- 23:05boxes. I mean, none of this makes any
- 23:07sense. They move the what did they
- 23:09didn't they move the bases closer.
- 23:11So, yeah, it's just why are you changing the rules?
- 23:14Baseball's worked for over 100 years.
- 23:16Why are you changing it? And that goes for the terrible
- 23:19GM. I mean, the terrible
- 23:21commissioner right now that runs the league and Rob Manfred, who
- 23:24doesn't know what he's doing. He thinks he knows everything.
- 23:26He oh, I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that.
- 23:28You know what? Pete Rose is dead, so I'm going
- 23:30to put him in the Hall of Fame now.
- 23:31It's just horrible. This doesn't make sense.
- 23:34Why didn't he just retire already and bring somebody that
- 23:36actually knows what he's doing as a commissioner in baseball?
- 23:40Well, this is what it is. I mean, if you love baseball
- 23:42ball, you got to deal with what they're doing.
- 23:44I mean, this is what it is. I don't, I don't create the
- 23:47rules. Personally, I don't like that
- 23:49runner on 2nd in the 10th inning.
- 23:51I'd like to see at least play 3 real extra innings before you go
- 23:54to that runner on second because I've been at games that have
- 23:57gone 1819 innings and they can be dragging.
- 24:01I mean, they can drag, you know. So I kind of understand it a
- 24:04little bit, but let's let's play 3 real extra innings without the
- 24:08runner on 2nd and maybe then start it in the 13th if you can
- 24:12get that long. So look, these are these are the
- 24:15rules now. This is what you're handed.
- 24:17If you love the sport like I do, you deal with it.
- 24:20I certainly have to deal with it as an official scorer right now.
- 24:23You know, I have to chart the challenges and and certain other
- 24:26things that I never had to do for years, but this is what it
- 24:29is, you know, so could you? Imagine.
- 24:31Could you? Imagine you can hate it, you can
- 24:33hate it, whatever. This is what it is.
- 24:35It's not changing back to the old ways.
- 24:37Could you imagine if Babe Ruth was alive right now?
- 24:40Or Yogi Berra or Mickey Mantle or any of the greats we're
- 24:44playing in the game now and saying, wait a second, what the
- 24:47Hell's this? We never had this, but this
- 24:50makes no sense. For that bad imagine if an ABS
- 24:52challenge over overturned A-Team where Billy Martin was managed.
- 24:55It's. Ridiculous.
- 24:57I had none of it. Makes sense.
- 24:58You know what? We'll just you know what?
- 24:59We'll have robotic embolism, Embolisms sitting right over
- 25:03there calling strikes right now. No umpires.
- 25:05We don't need umpires anymore. They're wrong half the time
- 25:07anyways. It's ridiculous.
- 25:10And then we're trying to speed up the game.
- 25:12But now you can challenge pitches.
- 25:14It's ridiculous. This is ridiculous.
- 25:17It does making the game more exciting there.
- 25:19Oh, it's making the game more exciting.
- 25:20That's what they get. Great baseball could be a drag
- 25:23in slow sport. So they making it more exciting,
- 25:25they adding more technology. Oh yeah.
- 25:28And getting the bases, coasters, you know, you get more excited.
- 25:30Oh, it's making me so excited, so exciting.
- 25:33I'd rather go to a strip bar. OK, watch this garbage.
- 25:37You're getting on a huff right here on the show.
- 25:39Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you. Know what it is is I don't
- 25:43really care much about watching this garbage.
- 25:46You watch this and you're sitting there, you're watching a
- 25:48baseball game. I just want to see baseball.
- 25:50But now, hey, you got Aaron Boone.
- 25:52Oh, he challenged 5 out of 50. Big whoop.
- 25:55And you lost the goddamn game. That's the problem.
- 25:58What? What is the point of it?
- 25:59It's not helping. It's slowing the game.
- 26:02Baseball's been trying to find ways to speed the game.
- 26:05Now all of a sudden you can challenge plays, challenge
- 26:07pitches. It's it's slowing the game down.
- 26:10So how does this make baseball better or faster?
- 26:13Well, today's game was 2 hours 20 minutes, so well, it was
- 26:17pretty quick today and they had six challenges.
- 26:20I rest my case. I rest my case they've.
- 26:22Got twins in the. Because nobody can hit.
- 26:25Nobody can hit and everybody's striking out.
- 26:27That's why the Yankees, Oh my God, watching the Yankees when
- 26:31they're in these droughts, it's it's not even watch.
- 26:33It's not even worth watching a game.
- 26:35It really isn't. I talk to Manny all the time.
- 26:37He does the broadcast for the New York Yankees and I'm like,
- 26:39what are we watching here? Are we watching a baseball game?
- 26:42Are we just watching a peewee baseball game?
- 26:45We're watching Little League World Series games.
- 26:47That's what the Yankees are. When they can't hit, they can't
- 26:50hit. And again, going back to the
- 26:52Yankees, for all the Yankee fans that are listening to me right
- 26:54now, and this is a fact, if the Yankees do not figure out how to
- 26:59get guys home in scoring position, they're not winning
- 27:02anything this year. I don't care how great their
- 27:04pitching staff is. They could be lights out and I
- 27:06believe they have the best pitching staff in baseball.
- 27:09Especially when Cole comes back and wrote, Don comes back and
- 27:11Schmidt comes back in the second-half.
- 27:13I don't think there's is anybody better than this team because
- 27:15you have Schlittler who's a number one, he's proven to be a
- 27:17number one. Fries are #1 and Kos are #1 You
- 27:20have three guys that could be number ones on your in your
- 27:23rotation. But if you can hit as we've seen
- 27:26it, look against watch, watch against the Blue Jays, the
- 27:29Yankees pitch very well. They couldn't hit and and that
- 27:32is the problem for the New York Yankees.
- 27:35Say whatever you want how doesn't spend money.
- 27:37Even though the Yankees are top four team when it comes to
- 27:39spending money, I don't want to hear it.
- 27:41They're spending the money on wrong players.
- 27:44Find guys that can steal. Bring up your young players like
- 27:47Spencer Jones and Jason Dominguez.
- 27:49See what you have in your farm system.
- 27:51It's garbage watching this team and then you, you sign Grissom.
- 27:55Come on man. You're going to bring Grissom
- 27:57back. That's the guy you bring back
- 27:59Cuz you what? He had 25 home runs last year.
- 28:02Please please. Don't forget, they're why
- 28:05they're still thinking about paying Jazz Chisholm 35 million
- 28:07a year. He gave him 20 something,
- 28:09$1,000,000 to be an outfielder, an everyday outfielder.
- 28:12He's not worth garbage. OK, I'm sorry Grissom.
- 28:16He had one good season with the Yankees and you give him a two
- 28:18year extension. Great.
- 28:19Congratulations to him. It's only one year, so relax.
- 28:26It's still, it's one more year than I need, OK.
- 28:29I agree with you. I wouldn't have brought him
- 28:31back. I would have.
- 28:33I would be more committed to bringing up Dominguez.
- 28:36But you. Love Dominguez.
- 28:38You love Dominguez man Is is more.
- 28:40They call him the Martian, but he looks like an alien.
- 28:43OK. The kid has talent you got, you
- 28:45got to be a little patient and that's what they don't do.
- 28:48They don't show patience with some of their young guys.
- 28:51You know, they're relying on veterans all the time.
- 28:53Basically what you've been saying, they don't hit with
- 28:55runners in scoring position. You know, that's been their MO
- 28:58over these past few years. That's why they failed to
- 29:00advance in the playoffs. You know, it's so funny.
- 29:03You have a picture right there. Thank you, Fish.
- 29:04You have me and Rob Manford. Could you imagine going to a
- 29:07strip bar with Rob Manford? I mean, seriously, how would you
- 29:10walk in? He's like, oh, the great Rob
- 29:12Manfred. Maybe get him a lap dance
- 29:15because maybe that'll wake him up.
- 29:17I mean, the guy doesn't even know where he is half the time.
- 29:19Maybe get him a couple lap dances.
- 29:21Maybe he has a little bit of fun, you know?
- 29:23Speedy, I would love to see you. No, that's Nathan's department.
- 29:26I mean, maybe we'll have you strip and maybe you dance for I
- 29:30mean, honestly, what what would be the point of taking this man
- 29:33out to have fun when the guy never smiles?
- 29:35That guy, that picture is probably the best smile or the
- 29:38the the the smile when it comes to images on social media, the
- 29:42guy never smiles. He's always like this.
- 29:44He's the guy never smiles. It's horrible.
- 29:48Sorry I had to do that, Howie. I had to throw that one.
- 29:51I'm just watching baseball, man. It just, it gives me agita.
- 29:55I, I honestly watching the game of baseball early in the season
- 30:00and, and, and it is cold to me. It's an at an all time high when
- 30:04it comes to coldness. It's right now 40°.
- 30:07This is what it is in October when you're playing October
- 30:10baseball, when you go into a season springtime and when the
- 30:14weather right now it's 38° here in New York.
- 30:17I mean, how do you expect to play and, and actually be able
- 30:20to hit when it gets warmer when, when you know, the air starts to
- 30:24feel, you know, you're cold, all right?
- 30:27And that's what Aaron Judge is right now.
- 30:29Once it gets warmer out, I remember, I think it was in July
- 30:32last year when it got really warm out.
- 30:34I think Aaron Judge hit like 10 home runs in like 15 games or
- 30:38something. I'm at magnitude.
- 30:40I don't think Aaron Judge is going to be as bad as he has
- 30:43been. But what bothers me right now is
- 30:45he's going to fall so behind in his batting average.
- 30:48By the time he gets hot, he's only going to be hitting 250.
- 30:51You know, I mean, what is he hitting right now, 170?
- 30:54I don't even know what is is batting average.
- 30:56I think it was. It's around 2:42. 40 right now,
- 30:59so he brought it up at one point it was like one 59160.
- 31:03So he's starting to hit the ball, but you want to see the
- 31:06guy. At this time of year you can
- 31:08bring your average up real fast, so.
- 31:12That's the problem. All right.
- 31:13I want to shift gears again to this salary cap debate that
- 31:17we've been hearing all offseason.
- 31:18Obviously we talked about the Dodgers signing Kyle Soccer and
- 31:20a lot of MLBGMS thought that might have been the final straw.
- 31:23The obviously the scandal with the players union and Tony Clark
- 31:26and all that stuff. Like now they're dealing with a
- 31:28new guy. Are they going to be able to
- 31:29fight this battle? Do you see a lockout impending?
- 31:31And what type of salary cap, Yes, salary cap or like payroll
- 31:36restrictions do you think could come?
- 31:38Well, unfortunately, you know, people that are around the game
- 31:41feel there's going to be a lockout next year.
- 31:43You know, the Dodgers spend money, but they spend it the
- 31:45right way. So they're winning.
- 31:47If they were blowing all these, you know, free agents that they
- 31:49signed, they weren't succeeding. People wouldn't be complaining.
- 31:52But they're winning. The two time defending world
- 31:54champions, you know, Yeah, they pick up all the talent.
- 31:58They've basically cornered the Japanese market thanks to Otani.
- 32:02So, you know, and the lower level teams, you know, also
- 32:07there's a problem. There's a lower level teams
- 32:08don't spend. There's going to have to be a
- 32:11floor as well as a ceiling if they have a salary cap.
- 32:15So, you know, it's going to be interesting to see what happens.
- 32:18You know, baseball, they, they seem to get on a roll and then
- 32:21all of a sudden they they kind of shoot themselves in the foot
- 32:24with these labor issues. But I'm sure you can expect
- 32:27something of a lockout once the season ends.
- 32:30Whether they, you know, they'll miss games next year remains to
- 32:32be seen. You know, would be foolish if if
- 32:35they, you know, have to delay the season with like they did a
- 32:38number of years ago. So we'll see where it goes.
- 32:40Both, you know, sides are accumulating what they're
- 32:43calling a war chest, you know, just in case the games are
- 32:46missed. So, you know, obviously teams
- 32:49are preparing. You know, look, Conor Griffin
- 32:52signed a a deal with the Pirates.
- 32:54You know, they probably, you know, offered that deal with the
- 32:57idea that there could be a lockout at some point or a cap,
- 33:01you know, this way they have them under wraps.
- 33:03So you know these labor issues are going to haunt the sport
- 33:07throughout the year, especially as they get toward the end.
- 33:10We are talking a 27 year MLB official scorer, Howie Carpin.
- 33:14Q. We we got him on mute over
- 33:17there. Yeah, yes, Sir.
- 33:19Now, so that with the Mets, so give me your insight in regards
- 33:23to where you think they are. You think they're still trying
- 33:26to figure it out or you think that this team can make a run
- 33:28later in the season. Well, they they have to, you
- 33:30know, see it's only 12 games in again, you know, that season is
- 33:34so long, Quentin. I don't think you can really get
- 33:37a gauge on any team until about 40 games in right now.
- 33:41They're OK. I mean, they're getting their
- 33:43starting pitching is improved from last year.
- 33:45They're getting bullpen from the end from Luke Weaver and Devin
- 33:49Williams have both been pretty good up to this point.
- 33:52You know, Luis Robert Junior at this point is working out.
- 33:55So some of the moves they've made have panned out.
- 33:58You know, again, as we spoke about with Arrow before, you
- 34:01know, the corner infield, whether that's going to be a
- 34:04hindrance or a positive, you know, remains to be seen.
- 34:07Again, you got to you got to give it at least until 40 games
- 34:10to see to really get an identity of what the team's going to be.
- 34:14They have a lot of talent. They should be, you know, at
- 34:16least in contention for first place and they should make the
- 34:20playoffs. If they don't, you know it's
- 34:22going to be a very disappointing season.
- 34:24All right, Howie, you've been to a lot of different ballparks,
- 34:27all right? I'm sure you've tasted you've
- 34:30tasted the hot dogs, the sausage and Peppers.
- 34:33What is your favorite food at the ballpark?
- 34:36Chicken fingers. OK, which is your favorite
- 34:39chicken fingers? Who has the best chicken fingers
- 34:41here in the major leagues? Well, I only sample them in the
- 34:45press room because, you know, I get spoiled.
- 34:47I figured. It's not.
- 34:49It's not free, but I don't sample the regular stuff outside
- 34:52of the concessions. So they.
- 34:54They treat you might have to put, you know, I've only been
- 34:56really at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium over the past few years
- 35:00and both are pretty good. I will say this, the carvel at
- 35:05Citi Field is so much better than Yankee Stadium.
- 35:08I don't know what it it's like. I don't know if they put milk in
- 35:12the car. The, the, the ice cream over
- 35:14there at Yankee Stadium. Every time I go to Yankee
- 35:16Stadium, I love my ice cream. Every time I eat, I can't even
- 35:19finish it. When I go to when I go to Citi
- 35:21Field, I and I absolutely I love it.
- 35:24I get a lot, I get a load of sprinkles, some strawberry
- 35:26topping. Now.
- 35:28What is your favorite beer at the stadium?
- 35:31Do you drink at the stadium? No, I can't when I'm working.
- 35:35Oh, stop. I mean, you just slip.
- 35:38One, you know, Bud have to do my job.
- 35:40I can't sit there and drink beer and put my feet up on the
- 35:43streets. Well, this guy likes to drink.
- 35:45Speedy loves to drink. He tests all the apple ciders
- 35:48and all that other stuff. I'm not a drinker.
- 35:50I don't drink any. Oh, there you go.
- 35:52Joe Girardi. I'm sure he's drinking too.
- 35:54He's I would be drinking after what the Yankees did to him.
- 35:57But anyway, before we let you go, my friend, and by the way,
- 36:01one more time, we are talking to 27 year MLB official scorer
- 36:05Howie Carpen. He's been on our show.
- 36:06We really appreciate at the last minute coming on because
- 36:09somebody decided, Dominique easily decided that he couldn't
- 36:12make the show. So we really appreciate you
- 36:14joining us. You look at the leak, OK, and,
- 36:19and the Braves right now, it's still early in the season.
- 36:21We're looking at some of these teams and I, I thought the
- 36:24Braves, I think the Braves are going to win the National League
- 36:27East. I I called it before the season
- 36:29started. I think the Braves are a lot
- 36:30better than people say they are. Is there a team, a surprise team
- 36:33right now in the majors that can make a run all the way to the
- 36:38World Series this year that you see so far?
- 36:40It's early in the season. We understand that.
- 36:42But when you look at the rosters and you look at some of these
- 36:45teams and, and in the the divisions that they're in, who
- 36:48do you think could be the surprise this year going to the
- 36:51World Series? Well, it's going to be hard to
- 36:53knock off the Dodgers in the NL, but I think you have to look at
- 36:56maybe Miami and Cincinnati, really Miami, the Reds have
- 36:59pretty good pitching, you know, and they they have a team that
- 37:03that's have a terrific manager in Terry Francona in the
- 37:07American League. You know, it's right now it's
- 37:10wide open. I mean, you still got to
- 37:11consider Seattle because of their pitching.
- 37:14You know, Texas has played well up to this point.
- 37:17I don't think anybody Detroit's kind of dangerous, but they're
- 37:20up and down. I don't know if you saw what
- 37:22happened today. There was a big collision in the
- 37:24outfield with Riley Green and Parker Meadows and they had to
- 37:28carry Parker Meadows off the off the field, I think in a
- 37:31stretcher. So that could be a key injury
- 37:34for Detroit and school Bulls not pitching that great.
- 37:37So far he's been OK. So, you know, I, I think you
- 37:41know that the surprise teams could be in the National League.
- 37:44I got my eye on the Marlins. I think they're going to be
- 37:46pesky. I think they're going to be a
- 37:47pain in the neck. I don't know if they can make
- 37:49the World Series, but I think they'll make some noise in the
- 37:52National League. I got the Diamondbacks.
- 37:54I think the Diamondbacks are going to be really, really good
- 37:56this year. When they start to, it starts to
- 37:58get warmer for them and they start to travel and get that
- 38:01lineup going. I think they're really, really
- 38:03good. I've I've been telling you,
- 38:05Speedy, I think the Diamondbacks and then you keep saying the
- 38:07Dodgers and yeah, the Dodgers are good and you like to give
- 38:10them all the compliments in the world.
- 38:11This deferred money crap has to go.
- 38:14Something needs to be done with the Dodgers.
- 38:16It makes me sick to my stomach that that every time they, they
- 38:19get every single player, they absolutely want this deferred
- 38:21money. They the Kyle Tucker contract is
- 38:24he can opt out of his contract after two.
- 38:26It's just ridiculous how everything works and some of
- 38:29these guys, Ohtani doesn't have to get paid until 12 years from
- 38:32now. He's making two or $3,000,000
- 38:35right now from the Dodgers organization and he's making
- 38:37$100 million in endorsements. It makes me sick to my stomach.
- 38:40I don't like it. It's pathetic.
- 38:42You can love it. All you baseball fans can make
- 38:45all the excuses. Well, everybody else can do it.
- 38:47Nobody can do it the way the Dodgers have done it because
- 38:49they have everybody working In Sync with each other.
- 38:52It makes me sick. All right?
- 38:54Sick. I had to throw that to you, man.
- 38:57Anyways, Howie, we really appreciate the time.
- 39:00I know I probably made you sick after that take, but you know
- 39:03that that's what happens, man. When you come on the show.
- 39:05It could go all over the place. And you know, thank God I'm not
- 39:09throwing up after having kidney stones last weekend, I was
- 39:12throwing up. I must have threw up like 7 or 8
- 39:14times before I got out of the hospital.
- 39:16So kidney stones. Have you ever had kidney stones,
- 39:18Howie? Yeah, I have.
- 39:19Oh man, they're horrible, man. It's.
- 39:21Brutal. It's brutal, man.
- 39:23You're running and they need to tell your girlfriend to drive
- 39:25you there. And she's like, I, I was working
- 39:28for 13 hours last night and she drives me over there and I'm,
- 39:31I'm trying to keep myself, I'm trying to grab things, I'm
- 39:33punching the car, trying to get myself all ready to walk into
- 39:37the hospital. And then when you walk through
- 39:38the damn hospital, the emergency emergency room, what does the
- 39:41doctor, what does the nurse say? Oh, you got to wait.
- 39:44So you're sitting there in pain, throwing up in a little bag that
- 39:47they gave you. And by the time you get to the
- 39:49doctor and the doctor's laughing because I'm telling him give me
- 39:51some morphine, give me something.
- 39:53So that's the truth, man. It's horrible anyways.
- 39:56How are you? Yeah.
- 39:59Dude, I, I, she had to. Could you imagine your
- 40:02girlfriend? You're, you're a strong tough
- 40:04guy and your girlfriend asks the security guard to bring a
- 40:08wheelchair out to the car because you can't even walk into
- 40:12the emergency room. How embarrassing is that?
- 40:15A big tough guy like me and she's like, yeah, you need
- 40:17somebody to push him in. It's.
- 40:19Embarrassing. That's what the hospital is
- 40:21there for, man. You don't go there when you're
- 40:23strong. It's embarrassing, man.
- 40:25It was embarrassing. And then when you're walking in
- 40:27there, when you're rolling in there, you're asking for a
- 40:31couple of bags because you're going to be throwing up all over
- 40:33the place. True story.
- 40:34By the way, Howie, we really appreciate your time, man.
- 40:37Go Yankees, man. And this ABS crap that baseball
- 40:42has, get rid of it. Get rid of it.
- 40:44Howie, what are we doing here? We need to figure this out.
- 40:46You're stuck man. They're not getting rid of it.
- 40:49Oh, well, you know, I'll tell you what we're doing.
- 40:51Make me the commissioner and I'll get rid of it.
- 40:53You know, there it is, right over there.
- 40:55I appreciate you. How are you?
- 40:57Great, keep up all the great work.
- 40:59How we will get you on as by the way, 40 games and we're getting
- 41:02you on because when when 40 games get closer, I'm going to
- 41:06tell you Bob Bouchette's hitting 222 what's going on?
- 41:08How we what's going on? He's.
- 41:10Being stifled by this amazing Marlins team, that's going to be
- 41:13in the end of. This Howie, I do.
- 41:15I just, I do not believe Bob Bouchette is going to hit 300
- 41:18this year. I'm just telling you, I don't
- 41:20even think he's hitting two. Ways we'll see.
- 41:21We'll see. How we carpin.
- 41:23He's telling me. He's telling me 40 games, this
- 41:26guy's going to figure it out. I beg to differ, but hey.
- 41:30I'm praying Howie's rights. Listen, if it is true, I, I'm
- 41:32going to when we go to I'll go to a ball game with you and I'll
- 41:35buy you your what? Your chicken fingers.
- 41:37OK, I'll get you your, your box of chicken fingers.
- 41:39All right, that's a that's a deal.
- 41:41And if I win, you got to take me to Shake a Shack because I, I, I
- 41:45don't want to go to Yankee Stadium because I don't have
- 41:46Shake Shack. Let's go, let's go to Citi
- 41:49Fields. We'll enjoy a nice ball game and
- 41:51I get to enjoy a nice Shake Shack.
- 41:52I love the hamburgers over there.
- 41:54Just. Absolutely have any wagers, so
- 41:58can't have any wagers. All right.
- 42:00So you need to read the Policy Broker.
- 42:02I work for MLB, you know, I got to watch myself, yeah.
- 42:05I always shot a check, it might get a good job.
- 42:07You might get suspended indefinitely like all those
- 42:09minor leaguers did. I get suspended every single
- 42:12time I look. Anyways, thank you, Howie for
- 42:14joining us. You're fantastic.
- 42:16We'll talk to you soon, buddy. All right, you guys take care.
- 42:19Howie Carpin, man, fantastic, great personality.
- 42:23You know, I wasn't expecting to interview him tonight.
- 42:26I really wasn't. But to have him come on at the
- 42:28last minute, it's sensational and we really appreciate it
- 42:31because it's not easy just to jump on and and talk baseball
- 42:35and well, it's easy for him. Maybe not easy for us.
- 42:37Anyways, thank you to him. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 42:40we call this call your shot. I'm not an X's and O's guy,
- 42:44right? I'm not a tactician.
- 42:45I'm a motivator in the classic sense of the word.
- 42:47You know, Lombardi, Charles Lindbergh, that nun over in
- 42:50India, like those people call your shot.
- 42:57Wonderful, wonderful guest, just a wonderful personality.
- 43:02Our man Howie Carpet is all right, ladies and gentlemen, how
- 43:06do we do this? Well, what we're going to do is
- 43:08we're going to call our shots. We're going to tell you
- 43:10something we believe is going to happen in sports, and then we'll
- 43:15we'll tell you, you know, we'll call our shot.
- 43:17All right, So we're going to go with Speedy first.
- 43:21We'll go with Fish. We'll go to Quentin, we'll go to
- 43:23me. Here we go, all.
- 43:24Right, so I'm going to kind of follow up on the last thing.
- 43:27In our concrete jungle carousel, we talk about the Devils getting
- 43:29rid of Tom Fitzgerald. I do believe they will fire
- 43:32Sheldon Keefe as well as their head coach.
- 43:34And the Devils have always had a pattern.
- 43:35They go for a young coach, then a veteran coach, then a young
- 43:38coach, then a veteran coach. So I mentioned I called my shot
- 43:41on Peter Laviolette, ex Rangers coach to the LA Kings next year
- 43:45to join with our Tammy Panarin. I believe another Rate ex
- 43:48Rangers coach Gerard Galatz will get back into coaching and he
- 43:51will be the next New Jersey Devils head coach.
- 43:54Wow. I don't know if that's going to
- 43:57happen, but I guess he's going to try to hit all of them.
- 43:59That's a good point, Speedy. I'm going to stay with hockey
- 44:02for my call, my shot, Call your shot.
- 44:06I'm going to say who's going to win the Stanley Cup barrel.
- 44:08I've figured it out. I've been looking at all the
- 44:10numbers. I've been in the lab the.
- 44:13Giants, the Giants are just excited to do the Giants and.
- 44:16The Giants don't play, don't play hockey.
- 44:18If they did, they'd win. Let's face it, you know Abdul
- 44:22Carter would skate circles around all these guys.
- 44:24I figured. You know it's the best, but the
- 44:26team, the. Rangers are going to give us a
- 44:27big contract. They might as well at this
- 44:30point, but I think it's the place that I used to live that
- 44:34used to win championships when I was there.
- 44:36The Tampa Bay Lightning that are going to win the Stanley Cup
- 44:39this year. They have probably the guy who's
- 44:42going to come in second for the Hart Trophy, Mr. Nikita Kucherov
- 44:46and they have Vasileski who's having another Vesna.
- 44:48He's probably going to be a finalist for the Vesna could win
- 44:51it type season. They have the second most goals
- 44:55per game at 3.5, second seven, and 3rd fewest against at 2.77.
- 45:02They have the second most goal differential in the entire
- 45:05league. They're better than everyone in
- 45:07the Eastern Conference in my opinion, and I think if anything
- 45:10trips up the Avalanche along the way.
- 45:12I think the Lightning handle anyone else.
- 45:14Otherwise, I think we're treated to one of the best 7 game series
- 45:17we'll ever have. The Lightning and the Avalanche.
- 45:20Now I'm still going with Vasi and the boys in Tampa.
- 45:24I got some pages tonight. New York Jets would make the
- 45:27playoff land by your QB, one Gino Smith.
- 45:31The Promised Land. Not to the Championship, but to
- 45:34the players. Hold on one second.
- 45:38Right there. Hold on one second.
- 45:39There we go, you said. You said that The Jets have so
- 45:42many weaknesses in their defense.
- 45:44All of a sudden they're making the playoffs.
- 45:46They're going to make the playoffs.
- 45:47I guess it was going to be pretty.
- 45:48They're going to make the first. They're going, it's going,
- 45:50they're going to make the. Playoffs wrong.
- 45:52They're going to get not that first round, but the worst part
- 45:56about that is it's going to mess up the opportunities.
- 45:59Of course, of course, of course you would say something.
- 46:02Like that, it's what we have to do, it's what we do.
- 46:06This is looking for all the positives of the ways he could
- 46:08downgrade The Jets. I don't have to do much work on
- 46:12that one. My call your shot is for Cinco
- 46:15de Mayo as the big cruiserweight fight is coming right up.
- 46:20I can't wait for it. David Benavidez versus Gilberto
- 46:23Ramirez. This is going to be a big fight
- 46:26and right now the cruiserweight champion of the world is Gilbert
- 46:29Ramirez. I know Oscar De La Hoya is
- 46:31promoting it and everybody can't wait for it.
- 46:34I don't think this is even going to be a fight.
- 46:36David Benavidez is going to knockout Gilberto Ramirez in the
- 46:42seventh round. That is my prediction, ladies
- 46:44and gentlemen. Ramirez is a great fighter, but
- 46:47Benavidez is to me, I think he's the best fighter in the world
- 46:51right now. He's moving up a weight class
- 46:53because nobody wants to fight this guy.
- 46:55So he's moving up 15 lbs to fight Ramirez and I think he's
- 46:59going to knock Ramirez out in the seventh round.
- 47:02So that is my call your shots. By the way, I'm a big Benavidez
- 47:08fan, so I'm I'm looking forward to this fight.
- 47:11A lot of boxing fans are looking forward to this fight.
- 47:13I'll tell you this, Oscar De La Hoya is going to win himself.
- 47:16He's going to make himself a lot of money after promoting this
- 47:19fight. I think it's a it's going to be
- 47:20an up and coming. Everybody's looking forward to
- 47:23Cinco de Mayo. Every Cinco de Mayo, it, it's,
- 47:26there's always a big boxing fight and this fight is to me is
- 47:31a fight that everybody's looking forward to.
- 47:33ESPN reports that Doc Rivers on March 2nd, following a blowout
- 47:38loss against the Bulls, called a team meeting that led him to
- 47:43losing the locker room. ESPN also verified that A at at
- 47:48least 6 Bucks players mentioned that they were done with Doc
- 47:52Rivers after that night. His most embarrassing statement
- 47:56was telling the Bucks players to look at his resume and even
- 48:01stole the line Google Me made famous by Indiana football coach
- 48:07Kurt Signetti last year. Rivers also called out Kyle
- 48:11Kuzma for his mistakes in recent games and even show video
- 48:16displays of what Kuzma did wrong, leading him to being a
- 48:21healthy scratch in several games after Kuzma tried to speak up.
- 48:26Bobby Porter's also called out the Bucks for having no urgency
- 48:31under Doc Rivers following a 45 point loss to the Nets in
- 48:36December. These problems led to Giannis
- 48:39mentioning 2 two different times that he wanted to be traded this
- 48:44season, which is something he never did in previous years.
- 48:48According to his agent, Doc had a 96 and one O 1 regular season
- 48:54record and a three and eight playoff record in almost three
- 48:58years with the Bucks. And reports say he is.
- 49:01I'm sorry. He is as good as gone and the
- 49:05Bucks have already started searching for his replacement.
- 49:10Doc Rivers right now is moving towards Hall of Fame status.
- 49:15He's going to the Hall of Fame, so of course he likes to brag
- 49:19about what he has done in the past.
- 49:21And I know and cute. Just let me finish before you
- 49:24cut in and. Give me your take.
- 49:27On his Boston run, OK, The fact here is everywhere this man has
- 49:33gone, he has failed to win except one time.
- 49:37One time he went to the Clippers and the Clippers were a good
- 49:40team, good regular season team. He had Chris Paul and a bunch of
- 49:45great talent around him. He had Lob City there.
- 49:48This team was one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.
- 49:51They go to the playoffs and they can't even make the Easter.
- 49:54They can't even make the Western Conference finals.
- 49:57This team had all that talent they had, I think if I'm not
- 50:00mistaken, at least two of those years they had the 6th man of
- 50:04the year on that roster and they still still couldn't go to
- 50:08Western Conference finals. The problem here is, is Doc
- 50:11Rivers is not a winning coach. He never was.
- 50:14Yes, he won with a great team, with the Celtics, a great team.
- 50:18Kevin Garnett is one of the best power forwards of all time.
- 50:21You could argue you one of the top 3 greatest power forwards of
- 50:24all time. And then you have Paul Pierce.
- 50:28We all know what he calls himself the truth.
- 50:30Ray Allen, one of the greatest 3 point shooters of all time.
- 50:33Rajon Rondo at a young as a as a young point guard, one of the
- 50:37bigger and talented young point guards, rebounders, defensive
- 50:40players at his position. That team was born to win.
- 50:44I don't think you need Doc Rivers to win a championship in
- 50:47those years. I mean, the leader that you have
- 50:49with Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, I don't think you
- 50:52can argue that team had a tremendous amount of talent to
- 50:56win championships, championships.
- 50:58They only won one. When I look at the Bucks, he was
- 51:03given the Bucks team and and by the way he he took over for this
- 51:07team when they're a winning team, they were a winning or
- 51:10they were, I think if I'm not mistaken, they won 35 games that
- 51:14year. I think they were 35 and 20 and
- 51:16they fired their coach and they brought Doc Rivers in because
- 51:19they thought Doc Rivers would make that team that much better
- 51:23and he made that team that much worse.
- 51:26This guy, and I'll say this again, he does not know how to
- 51:29develop players. He's never developed players in
- 51:33any year of his coaching. Now you want to say that he went
- 51:36to the Clippers and he developed players?
- 51:38Not really. Chris Paul was a developed
- 51:40player. That team had all developed
- 51:42players on that roster. I don't have the roster in front
- 51:45of me, but I can tell you right now, three out of the seven
- 51:49start seven players that he rotated in that rotation.
- 51:52Three of them were All Stars for at least two of the years.
- 51:57To me, when I think of Doc Rivers, it's not championship
- 52:01coach, Hall of Famer. To me, he's one of the most
- 52:05overrated coaches in NBA history.
- 52:08And that's the fact. I I don't think he was a great
- 52:10basketball player. He wasn't.
- 52:12He played for the next a couple of years speedy.
- 52:13You can laugh and giggle all you want.
- 52:15I'm off of your queue. He wasn't.
- 52:17He wasn't his His career average as an NBA player was, what, 11
- 52:22points? He's not a good NBA player.
- 52:25Jeff Horn. Jeff Horn, Jeff Hornacek was a
- 52:28better player than Doc Rivers was as a basketball player.
- 52:31He was on the Utah Jazz. He was better.
- 52:36And if you look at the facts of this story, that nobody likes
- 52:40him in the locker room, right? We're at right now with
- 52:42Milwaukee. One of the main reasons why
- 52:44Giannis wants to get the hell out of there was Doc Rivers.
- 52:47Doc Rivers has not helped the organization get better.
- 52:50He's got, to me, he's made the organization worse.
- 52:53And then he thought by coming in there and taking over a veteran
- 52:57team that he can take this team to the promised land.
- 53:00This team has not been the same team in almost five years.
- 53:04They fired a coach that won him a championship.
- 53:07They fired a coach after one bad season.
- 53:12And then they bring in another coach who was doing pretty good
- 53:15for him. And then they fire him because
- 53:17he couldn't get along with some of the young players on the
- 53:19roster. The fact here is, is Doc Rivers
- 53:24is a cancer. He's a cancer now.
- 53:28What he did with Boston. If every every Boston fan wants
- 53:31to say that Doc Rivers was the one of the main reasons why they
- 53:34won a championship, fine. Give them all the credit in the
- 53:36world. They should have won multiple
- 53:38championships with that team, multiple championships with that
- 53:42team. The fact that they won one is
- 53:44disgraceful. Disgraceful.
- 53:46They were handed, they were handed Kevin Garnett.
- 53:49They were handed Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
- 53:51I mean, I don't know what a what a debacle that was.
- 53:55He was traded over there. Did he was traded or signed of
- 53:58it? I don't even remember, but I
- 54:00think Ray Allen was there before Kevin Garnett.
- 54:02Was there? Yeah, No, it was in the draft.
- 54:05Like they got him in the draft, but yeah.
- 54:06Who? Who Ray?
- 54:07Allen, they traded it. They traded for Ray Allen.
- 54:09Yeah, so Ray Allen was there before Kevin Garnett was there.
- 54:13So this team was put together to win championships.
- 54:18And and again, when I look at Doc Rivers in his career,
- 54:22everywhere he's gone, he's gone to good teams.
- 54:25Think about it. I mean, when he took over from
- 54:27Milwaukee, Milwaukee wasn't, they weren't a championship team
- 54:29anymore, but they had championship players and they
- 54:32thought that he was the missing piece.
- 54:33He would take them to the promised land.
- 54:35Again, everywhere he's gone, he has failed to do so.
- 54:39When he went to the 76ers, how many players couldn't stand Doc
- 54:42Rivers? Joella beat, couldn't stand
- 54:44them. Nobody could stand him.
- 54:48Nobody. I mean, the practices that he
- 54:50was holding, some of his players couldn't stand.
- 54:52They couldn't stand each other because of him, because he was
- 54:55playing sides. Doc Rivers problem over his
- 54:59career is he doesn't know how to coach stars.
- 55:02He really doesn't. He's got he's got stars coaching
- 55:05him. Think about it.
- 55:07Kevin Garnett was calling the defensive plays when they won
- 55:11that championship that year. He was calling the plays in the
- 55:14huddle. He was him and Tom Thibodeau.
- 55:18He was the anchor, not Doc Rivers.
- 55:20Doc Rivers was just sitting there or standing there with his
- 55:23arm crossed like this. Doc Rivers is to me not a team
- 55:28leader. He is not a great coach.
- 55:29Even his son, one of the most overrated Duke Blue Devils of
- 55:32all time. OK, one of the most overrated
- 55:36Duke Blue Devils of all time. What did he do with the Duke
- 55:38Blue Devils? Nothing.
- 55:39They lost in the first round of Lehigh.
- 55:41Nothing. And he sat there at every single
- 55:44game watching his son bragging about how great his son was
- 55:46going to be in the NBA. How bad was he in the NBA?
- 55:49Oh, I know he went to LA Clippers because his father was
- 55:51coaching that and. It was a first round pick when
- 55:53he never should have been anywhere close.
- 55:54The fact here is Kyle Kuzma is a veteran player.
- 55:58Kyle Kuzma, when he came into the league, I remember he was
- 56:01playing for the Nets. He was a pretty good net.
- 56:03He was pretty good with Washington.
- 56:06He's bounced around a couple of teams.
- 56:08His his game is to me broken. He's not a great defender, but
- 56:12he, he's got a good, a decent offensive game.
- 56:14He can rebound for his size and he could score.
- 56:17He he, he can give you a 1516 points a game if if you have
- 56:20them in your offense. The fact and Kyle Kuzma is very
- 56:23liked by the players, Giannis, Bobby Porter, they all are very
- 56:27close with Kyle Kuzma. And when you're hearing stories
- 56:31that they're having team meetings and he's going out
- 56:34there and saying, oh, what did he say?
- 56:37Google me. Look how famous I am.
- 56:40Look at what I've done. Go Google you.
- 56:42You shouldn't be a Hall of Famer.
- 56:44The fact that they're inducting you in the Hall of Fame.
- 56:46I've said it again on my story, Amari Stoudemire shouldn't be in
- 56:49the Hall of Fame. He shouldn't be in the Hall of
- 56:51Fame. The fact that everybody gets
- 56:53inducted into the Hall of Fame if you're half decent as a coach
- 56:56and a player is despicable and you want to know something.
- 56:59He should never get a coaching job again in the NBA.
- 57:02Honest to God he should never get a coaching job after
- 57:05Milwaukee parts ways with him. If you see where he has gone
- 57:09from one team to another, think about it.
- 57:11Look at the talented teams he's coached over the years.
- 57:14You won 1 championship as a coach, 1 championship with those
- 57:19Clipper teams. The even the 76ers.
- 57:22The 76ers were to me. They were built to win.
- 57:26They were a once in one year and they lost to.
- 57:27Atlanta, they were built to win, and you're choked because you
- 57:31can't win the big game. You don't have Tom Thibodeau as
- 57:34your defensive guy. Come on, guys.
- 57:36You really think that Doc Rivers is a Hall of Famer?
- 57:40Google me, I'll Google you and I'd put on on your Google
- 57:43profile. Suck, suck.
- 57:45Can't win the big game. You stink.
- 57:48Yeah, he inherited a team in the Clippers that already was a
- 57:50veteran team. Like you're right, he didn't
- 57:52develop a young star that was like a an.
- 57:54Older team developed a young *. Yeah, maybe again, maybe he took
- 57:57Blake Griffin to another level. I always did.
- 57:59Blake Griffin was already. Yeah, I was going to.
- 58:01Say the number. One pick he was, yeah, he he had
- 58:03a couple bad years in the game. Oklahoma.
- 58:05Yeah, I remember he had a couple bad years in the beginning of
- 58:07his career where he was demoted to the G League.
- 58:09And then he then he got elevated a little more, I think a couple
- 58:11years before Doc Rivers got there.
- 58:13Yeah. I'm going to say only a small
- 58:14upgrade you had like Hedo Turklu and Jamal Crawford.
- 58:17He won the slam dunk contest before Doc.
- 58:19Rivers even go. No, I know that.
- 58:21So you're inheriting that team and you go to the second round
- 58:25of the. Dude, he was a star.
- 58:26Before that. He jumped over a Hyundai
- 58:28Elantra. Everybody loved Blake Griffin.
- 58:30What made what made Doc Rivers? You know what made Blake Griffin
- 58:34better? Chris Paul.
- 58:36Yes. That's what made Blake Griffin
- 58:38better. Not Doc Rivers, everybody.
- 58:40Kevin Garnett made Doc Rivers a champion.
- 58:43Yeah. That's the truth.
- 58:43That's adventure, Chris. That's the truth.
- 58:45Chris Paul should have been a Laker, but obviously that trade
- 58:47got rescinded and then he ends up going to the Clippers later
- 58:50on. So he kind of lucked into that
- 58:51one. So then he doesn't even get to
- 58:53the Western Conference finals. They blow A31 lead against a
- 58:56Rockets team that was very new all at once, that they had more
- 58:58talent then. And they still can't even just
- 59:01win playoff games and really bad playoff losses too.
- 59:03Utah when Donald Mitchell was a young guy like a team said hey,
- 59:07no business losing to then you mentioned it with this Milwaukee
- 59:09Bucks team like Milwaukee got rid of Bootenholzer for whatever
- 59:13reason after they made no sense yeah they they lost an 8 seed
- 59:16Miami Heat team OK yeah you want to say that because.
- 59:19Who's better, Bootenholzer or Bootenholzer I love or Doc Riven
- 59:22I I don't care what you love. Who do you think is a better
- 59:24coach? Yeah, I love Bootenholzer.
- 59:26I was not disputing. That of course you would think
- 59:28Doc Riven. Because booty.
- 59:29Coached the Celtic. Bootenholzer had a very stable
- 59:31run with an Atlanta team that they don't care about
- 59:33basketball. There was thoughts with them
- 59:35selling the team, getting into arena for a while and they went
- 59:37to the playoffs pretty consistently.
- 59:38They went to the Eastern Conference finals and lost to
- 59:40LeBron and like everyone, everyone does that.
- 59:42That doesn't make all the Pacers coaches that they had there bad
- 59:45because they lost to LeBron. Like that was the same pace they
- 59:47were on. He goes to Milwaukee Bucks and
- 59:49they get to the Eastern Conference finals pretty
- 59:50quickly. Yeah, they blow it to Toronto,
- 59:52fine, but then they go back and then win the finals the next
- 59:55year and they get rid of them because they had one bad year
- 59:57losing to win at Miami Heat AC, which by the way made the NBA
- 1:00:00Finals that year. So it's clearly was not a fluke
- 1:00:03and since then? What did they do?
- 1:00:05They made an unconventional hire with Adrian Griffin.
- 1:00:07I didn't love you at the time, but like you said I only started
- 1:00:0935 and 12 or something like that.
- 1:00:11They had a winning record, there were 20 games over 500 and they
- 1:00:14fired him to Doc Rivers. Right.
- 1:00:17It made no sense for the time they lost.
- 1:00:18Like 8 games in a row with doc. Since then, it just got very
- 1:00:21unstable all at once. All right.
- 1:00:23Q go ahead that. Can't wait for this Carbon.
- 1:00:26Yeah, what a time it's about. Congratulate Doc Rivers again
- 1:00:29for making the Hall of Fame. I don't think he gets the credit
- 1:00:33that he deserves, especially not but now that I'm here, I'm
- 1:00:36definitely going to make sure that he get the credit that he's
- 1:00:38deserved. In regards to the topic at hand.
- 1:00:41I really don't see nothing wrong with that.
- 1:00:43Start hearing these rumors that's coming out of the locker
- 1:00:45room, players saying this, coaches saying this and whatnot.
- 1:00:48But in reality, when you look at Doc Rivers resume, he had every
- 1:00:52right he could. You know, he can get emotional
- 1:00:53and say Google me, this guy has won a championship.
- 1:00:56This guy's not and Hall of Fame inductee, I don't see why it's
- 1:01:01an issue when he get emotional and say hey Google me in regards
- 1:01:06to Kyle Kuzma. Kyle Kuzma try to stand up for
- 1:01:10someone and anytime you do that, the coaches are already made-up
- 1:01:13in his mind in regards to however he's feeling about that
- 1:01:16play or that player. So you taking the bat, taking
- 1:01:19the heat for them is not going to make your situation any
- 1:01:21better. If you have, if you have you
- 1:01:23been looking at Kyle Kuzma's play over the past few years, it
- 1:01:27has not been impressive. I mean, the guy just threw the
- 1:01:29ball completely over a wide open teammates head in the recent
- 1:01:35game. Whatever, just got beat by the
- 1:01:36Nets. He's not contributing.
- 1:01:38So listen, you're not you're not in a position to be taken up and
- 1:01:42being a leader in this thing. Bobby Porter's is obviously the
- 1:01:44leader in regards to that locker room.
- 1:01:48Yeah, I know, I, I get it. You you think that it got to be
- 1:01:52a superstar, you got to have all these stats and whatever, but it
- 1:01:54be the guys who are not as successful on the court that be
- 1:01:58the leaders in the locker room. I know you you don't believe
- 1:02:01that and you believe it's the guy that gets all the camera
- 1:02:03time. But at the end of the day,
- 1:02:05there's locker rules where the guy who doesn't get the most
- 1:02:07camera time actually is the leader within the within the
- 1:02:11locker room. In regards to Doc Rivers, I
- 1:02:13think you he did average of like 14 points or 17 points two years
- 1:02:18in the in the league. He also, he made an All Star one
- 1:02:21time, so he wasn't completely garbage, OK, All right.
- 1:02:23So he was compared to all this, all these superstars and all
- 1:02:27that, yes, but he did the All Star.
- 1:02:29Everybody don't make the All Star, OK?
- 1:02:31And everybody don't average 14 to 17 points when you go back.
- 1:02:34Everybody doesn't make the All Star.
- 1:02:35Please, not everybody so you can finish it off.
- 1:02:38So I just think it's just a, it's just an emotional case when
- 1:02:41somebody got, you know, some information in regards to what's
- 1:02:43going on in the locker room. They are a bad team, a bad
- 1:02:48organization right now. Oh yeah, they had that one time
- 1:02:50that they, you know, wanted. Just like the Celtics.
- 1:02:53One time, one time. No, we have actually.
- 1:02:55No. One time with Doc Rivers.
- 1:02:57One time. One time with the great.
- 1:02:59We have like 18 to. 19 that's that's not what I'm talking
- 1:03:03about. I am talking about.
- 1:03:04I am talking about. Way ahead of them.
- 1:03:06I am talking about Doc Rivers. He won one title, 1 championship
- 1:03:11buddy. One.
- 1:03:12That's all. And how many years that means?
- 1:03:14And how many? Years coaching.
- 1:03:15Coaching the NBA that don't you want to compare him to field?
- 1:03:20You don't realize that he stakes his head coach.
- 1:03:23This guy won a championship. That is the winner.
- 1:03:26Oh, I'm sorry, you mean you mean Kevin Garnett won a
- 1:03:29championship? That's what you mean.
- 1:03:31Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen won the championship.
- 1:03:36Yes, but but Chris Paul. What is he doing?
- 1:03:40Go there, go there, play. There mean talent play.
- 1:03:44Defense there. Win it, please, talent.
- 1:03:45Don't win it all the time, OK? Oh, it's a system.
- 1:03:50You need a system. OK.
- 1:03:52Let me talk, please, OK. You've talked.
- 1:03:54Enough, very patient. You've said enough patient with
- 1:03:56you. OK, Really patient.
- 1:03:58Very, very patient. I'm hearing enough of this
- 1:04:00garbage. Very patient with you.
- 1:04:02OK, Thank you. Now Doc Rivers is a coach is an
- 1:04:06old school coach, so he needs a more old school type team, Sir,
- 1:04:11I'm talking all right, veteran type team.
- 1:04:14Okay, so this is the reason why he's conflicted when it comes to
- 1:04:17these younger teams because they don't really want to adjust to
- 1:04:20that old school style type coaching that that he that he
- 1:04:24brings to the table. So I don't think that this is
- 1:04:27his last coaching job. First and foremost, I think he
- 1:04:30would being done to the Hall of Fame coming up soon, in the next
- 1:04:32couple of months or whatever, he'd be wearing a gold jacket
- 1:04:35that he did not pay for and or is an orange now it's like an
- 1:04:38orange jacket so that he did not pay for it.
- 1:04:41And I, I love that he's getting the credit that he deserved in
- 1:04:45regards to the Hall of Fame, but I do think that the media does a
- 1:04:49bad job and, and giving him credit in regards to who he has
- 1:04:53truly been as a coach and as a player.
- 1:04:55He's not the best and he's not maybe not top five, but he's
- 1:04:58been pretty consistent overall in his career all.
- 1:05:02Right. Are you done?
- 1:05:03Are you done? Because I want to throw
- 1:05:05something at you. This is how.
- 1:05:06This is how you know. This is how you know Doc Rivers
- 1:05:11is not that important to the league when they're they're
- 1:05:14giving him compliments of his awards.
- 1:05:16Eastern Conference Coach of the Month, Eastern Conference Coach
- 1:05:19of the Month, Eastern Conference Coach of the Month.
- 1:05:22How many? How many, how many times do we
- 1:05:24have to see him coach of the month to realize that the guy is
- 1:05:27not a great coach? Don't win that award.
- 1:05:30Not been a great. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:05:32It's it's isn't it a team sport? Isn't it?
- 1:05:35And to me, no, it's not a coach. Actually, actually, the NBA is
- 1:05:39not about the coach. It's about stars.
- 1:05:42That's what it's about. It's a players league, not about
- 1:05:46the coach. How many times have we seen bad
- 1:05:48teams win championships? How many I'm sorry bad coaches
- 1:05:51win. Championships.
- 1:05:53Bad coaches win championships. Doc Rivers won a championship,
- 1:05:56he said. He's a bad coach.
- 1:05:56I'm saying that bad coaches. Have won the championships.
- 1:05:59Bad coaches have won championships many, many times
- 1:06:02in the NBA. In the NBA.
- 1:06:04Without coaching, it just happened.
- 1:06:06If you have talent, yes. If you have talent, yeah.
- 1:06:09There are guys like Spall straight.
- 1:06:11He's a good coach. Pat Riley's a good coach.
- 1:06:13Yeah. But you, you want to tell me
- 1:06:15this? If you look at those, those
- 1:06:17great Laker teams, you're going to tell me they never win a
- 1:06:20championship without Pat Riley. They do that talent with that
- 1:06:24kind of talent. They're winning a championship
- 1:06:26with or without Pat Riley. Pat Riley gave him an edge, but
- 1:06:29they're winning the Showtime. Lakers.
- 1:06:32It's a player driven league. It is.
- 1:06:34It is a player driven league, the NBA.
- 1:06:37Out of all the sports, out of all the sports, the NBA is a
- 1:06:41player driven league. The NHL.
- 1:06:43You need, you need coaching, absolutely need coaching.
- 1:06:46Absolutely. Football.
- 1:06:47You need coaching. You do, you do MOB.
- 1:06:51I mean, you can argue. You more analytic driven.
- 1:06:54Now it is more analytic, but you need you need managers.
- 1:06:57But if you look at the sports, out of all the four big sports
- 1:07:00here in America, the one sport that you can point out that you
- 1:07:03can win championships without great coaching is the NBA.
- 1:07:08And and let's let's not hide behind it.
- 1:07:10It's the truth. And Doc Rivers is not a great
- 1:07:12coach. I don't know what you're
- 1:07:13watching. He is the Hall of Fame.
- 1:07:16He hasn't had problems. He hasn't.
- 1:07:18Had problems. Think about it, if he's just not
- 1:07:20a good coach. Think about it.
- 1:07:21Say hey. I don't like Doug Rivers and and
- 1:07:24then we'll accept. He is not a good coach.
- 1:07:27He's not a good coach when he got why?
- 1:07:28Does he have the nickname? He's not a doctor of anything.
- 1:07:33He's not a doctor of anything. I don't know, he's pretty pretty
- 1:07:36methodical as the formula of blown leads.
- 1:07:38The guy, he's not a doctor of anything.
- 1:07:40He's. A doctor of losing.
- 1:07:42Or player. He's a He's a doctorate of
- 1:07:44losing. That's what he is.
- 1:07:45He's a loser, That's what he is. He's not a born winner, Errol.
- 1:07:49He's not a winner. Guys, I got the answer for you
- 1:07:51here. Here's the answer.
- 1:07:53Doc Rivers is called Doc because when he joined the league he was
- 1:07:56wearing a Doctor JT shirt and they called him Doc.
- 1:08:00That's it. And it and it kind of ruined the
- 1:08:02name because honest to God, he's a doctor of losing, that's what.
- 1:08:05He is so in in in real life doctors is Dr. He's the guy
- 1:08:09stinks. Man, he stinks.
- 1:08:11He hasn't done anything that really to me, think about it.
- 1:08:16He left. He got he got fired by the
- 1:08:18Clippers after the fact that a lot of the players couldn't
- 1:08:21stand him. He goes to the Philadelphia
- 1:08:2376ers, the players can't stand him.
- 1:08:25Now he goes to Milwaukee, the players can't stand him.
- 1:08:28Do we see the pattern here? Do we notice where the pattern
- 1:08:30is going? He's not liked by the players.
- 1:08:33He's not a good coach if you're not like, but Lenny Wilkins,
- 1:08:37Lenny Wilkins was one of the greatest coaches of all time.
- 1:08:40Was he liked by the players when he when he coached the Hawks?
- 1:08:42Absolutely. He was there for how many years
- 1:08:45with the Hawks? The reason why he was there for
- 1:08:47such a long time because he's a great coach and that he's good
- 1:08:50with the players. Phil Jackson, he was great with
- 1:08:52the players him and I mean, nobody could get along with
- 1:08:55Dennis Rodman, but guess what Phil Jackson figured out?
- 1:08:58That great coaches could get along with Dennis Rodman.
- 1:09:00Yeah, when the last time that it was.
- 1:09:02Rivers, he can't get along with anybody, couldn't get along with
- 1:09:05his superstar, Joel Embiid. Him and Joel Embiid were going
- 1:09:07back and forth. How many players?
- 1:09:09How many players has he been arguing with on and off the
- 1:09:12basketball court? Story practice.
- 1:09:14The guy doesn't get along with anybody.
- 1:09:16How does that make him a good coach?
- 1:09:18How does that mean wins? No, the team wins.
- 1:09:22He doesn't win. The team wins you just why don't
- 1:09:25you give credit? What credit due?
- 1:09:28Why? Why won't you do that?
- 1:09:29You want, You want. Me to do that you just read off
- 1:09:31his awards. He's getting adopted to the hall
- 1:09:33of awards as a coach. He has a championship and you
- 1:09:37constantly just degraded man as if he has no part in any of this
- 1:09:41success. No.
- 1:09:42So they just LED people in the Hall of Fame with no with with
- 1:09:45no resume. There are a lot of guys in the
- 1:09:47end, especially in the NBA, that are in the Hall of Fame that
- 1:09:50shouldn't be there. Who?
- 1:09:52What do you mean, who you want me to pull out?
- 1:09:54Let's bring up the Hall of Fame. I'll point them out right now.
- 1:09:57NBA Hall of Fame, Speedy, give me the NBA Hall of Fame.
- 1:09:59Anybody have it? I will point out who shouldn't
- 1:10:02be in the Hall of Fame. You bring up the list.
- 1:10:04Based off based off what metric? Not just Earl, I'm.
- 1:10:07Going to tell you what metric? I'm a big NBA fan.
- 1:10:10You bring, you bring up, you give me, you give me players and
- 1:10:14I'll tell you if they're Hall of Farmers.
- 1:10:16I'll tell you if they're Hall of Farmers.
- 1:10:19Does anybody have it? It's speedy.
- 1:10:20Mr. types up 1,000,000 words, and then he can't even, he can't
- 1:10:24even figure it out. Does anybody have the NBA Hall
- 1:10:27of Fame? Right, Maurice Thatamar.
- 1:10:28Not a Hall of Famer. Does anybody else?
- 1:10:32Speedy, do you have it? We can't name a Turnbull.
- 1:10:34Not a Hall of Famer. Carmela, Anthony.
- 1:10:38Hall of Famer Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard's not a Hall of
- 1:10:40Famer. So.
- 1:10:42Dwight Howard's not a Hall of. Famer I got, I can't see his
- 1:10:45induct. It's too small.
- 1:10:47It's too small I I can't see. It you can't see that, Oh,
- 1:10:50that's bad for you. There it is now.
- 1:10:52I Chauncey Phillips, not a whole thing has been in the news.
- 1:10:54Not a Hall of Famer. We've got Vince Carter.
- 1:10:59Not a Hall of Famer. Vince Carter's got to be.
- 1:11:01Not a Hall of Famer, he only is the longevity.
- 1:11:04If you want to put him in the Hall of Fame because of his
- 1:11:06longevity, that's fine. But to me, one of the greatest
- 1:11:09players of all time and what he's done.
- 1:11:12Did Vince Carter ever win a championship?
- 1:11:14No, I don't think so. So there's a lot of.
- 1:11:15Not a Hall of Fame? Doesn't matter.
- 1:11:16Not a Hall of Famer. He was in a fan.
- 1:11:18He got a winner. Cup Championship.
- 1:11:20No, I'm just. Saying now you got a winner cup.
- 1:11:21Wait. With your longevity in the NBA
- 1:11:23for 20 something years, you got to win a championship.
- 1:11:25He didn't win a championship. Go.
- 1:11:26Ahead so when when you. Got to the house it don't.
- 1:11:28Matter, but when? Pau Gasol?
- 1:11:30I would say borderline 40. Parker.
- 1:11:32Tony Parker's Hall of Famer? Dwyane Wade?
- 1:11:34Yes. Tony Parker is a Hall of.
- 1:11:36Fame Tim Hardaway, our friend of the show.
- 1:11:38Hall of Fame, Yes. He brought it up before Chris
- 1:11:41Weber. No, Weber.
- 1:11:43No. Manu Ginobili.
- 1:11:45Yes, six man of the. Year in it, no.
- 1:11:49What for The International and the Championship 100% have to
- 1:11:52give it to him. He's a Hall of Famer for what he
- 1:11:54did as an international player. Here's a really.
- 1:11:56Of the team remembered. Tony KU coach.
- 1:11:58No Tony KU coach. No, let's talk about that.
- 1:12:00I have a great name here for you.
- 1:12:02He's right in the second guy on the top, Chris Bosh.
- 1:12:05Speaking. Of team player.
- 1:12:07No, not a Hall of Famer. That's on.
- 1:12:09That team. He's not he's not a Hall of
- 1:12:11Famer. What he's done in his career, he
- 1:12:13had to go to a championship team.
- 1:12:15He had to he had to be considered to be combined with
- 1:12:19Dwyane Wade and LeBron James to win his championship when he
- 1:12:22wished with Toronto. He had his better years with
- 1:12:24Toronto when he went to the Miami Heat.
- 1:12:27He to me, he wasn't even an important factor of why why they
- 1:12:31won those championships. Ray Allen was more important in
- 1:12:33certain one of those games than. He was because he hit a big set.
- 1:12:36Yeah, Ray Allen. This one.
- 1:12:37This one is wild to me. No, not a Hall of Famer.
- 1:12:40Vladi Divas if you want to talk about compiling.
- 1:12:43Not a Hall of Famer. Oh my God, compiling body hair.
- 1:12:48Jack Sikma is a classic Paul Westfall.
- 1:12:50Paul Pierce Did we do Paul Pierce?
- 1:12:52Yeah, we did. Pierce is a Hall of Famer.
- 1:12:54He's a Hall of. Famer.
- 1:12:54All right, here we go. We got Rayas guys that didn't
- 1:12:57win a championship. We got Grant Hill.
- 1:13:01Not a Hall of Famer. I agree with that.
- 1:13:03Injuries, but injuries. Again, we have to remember this
- 1:13:07is not the NBA Hall of Fame. This is the Naismith basketball.
- 1:13:11I got it. They're including college here.
- 1:13:12I got it. If you include college, I guess
- 1:13:14you can make the case for Grant Hill all.
- 1:13:16Right, I got it. Tracy McGrady.
- 1:13:18T Mac. No, not a no, Not a Hall of
- 1:13:21Famer. Jason Kidd.
- 1:13:23Hall of Famer, Yes. And Steve Nash, obviously, yes.
- 1:13:26I mean, we're not going to talk about the WNBA players.
- 1:13:30It's not really worth that discussion.
- 1:13:32They did it. Major reef, please.
- 1:13:36Please. Yao Ming.
- 1:13:38Not a hall of. Fame.
- 1:13:39Not a Hall of Fame, no. He he went in with Shaq in 20.
- 1:13:42He could never get up, get past that.
- 1:13:44And he, he how many years? Did he play he.
- 1:13:47Played eight years in the NBA. He shouldn't be a Hall.
- 1:13:49Of fame but again like the international game bringing
- 1:13:52China into it it's. Like one of the most.
- 1:13:54Important things, they have the CBA and everything.
- 1:13:57I would say the impact type of a guy, but I don't know that's 10
- 1:14:01years and you've named, I would say Errol about 10.
- 1:14:04There's there's a lot of guys in the NBA.
- 1:14:07JoJo White is a Hall of Famer, by the way.
- 1:14:09So for, for everybody that doesn't know who JoJo White, one
- 1:14:11of the greatest college players of all time, point guard.
- 1:14:14I remember JoJo, but I was, I wasn't alive when JoJo was
- 1:14:17dominant, but he was a great, great player.
- 1:14:21My, my thought here is, is the NBA's problem.
- 1:14:24The NFL doesn't do this. There are guys that should be in
- 1:14:27the Hall of Fame in the NFL that don't get into the Hall of Fame
- 1:14:29or get inducted into the Hall of Fame when they're dead.
- 1:14:32I mean it, it's ridiculous. Senior votes.
- 1:14:35It makes no sense. And even in the MLB, Barry, I
- 1:14:39don't care if he did steroids. Barry Bonds is a Hall of Famer.
- 1:14:43Roger Clemens is a Hall of Famer.
- 1:14:45They're Hall of Famers. Alex Rodriguez is a Hall of
- 1:14:48Famer. Stop with this garbage that
- 1:14:50they're not Hall of Famers. Yeah, they did.
- 1:14:51Sarah, you want to put an asterisk on their name, that's
- 1:14:54fine. They're Hall of Famers.
- 1:14:57So we sit here and and we look at all the sports, even in
- 1:15:00hockey, hockey. Look how long it took.
- 1:15:03I'm trying to remember, was it Pierre Turge?
- 1:15:07Pierre Turgeon should have been in the Hall of Fame years and
- 1:15:10years ago. It finally gets inducted in the
- 1:15:12Hall of Fame. It took him almost 20 years to
- 1:15:13get into the Hall of Fame. There are players that are not
- 1:15:16in the NHL Hall of Fame and it it makes no sense whatsoever.
- 1:15:20Makes no sense. I mean, Neil Smith is a Hall of
- 1:15:23Fame GM. He is a Hall of Fame GM.
- 1:15:27What he did for the Rangers, think about it.
- 1:15:29He made that Marc Messi a trade. He traded for Adam Graves.
- 1:15:32He was the one that drafted Sergei Zubov.
- 1:15:35He dread when you look at that team and how that team was
- 1:15:37built, that was that was that was him.
- 1:15:41So why isn't he in the Hall of Fame?
- 1:15:44But to me, it's a huge problem. John van Beesbruk, OK, now he is
- 1:15:49not in the Hall of Fame because of some of the things that he's
- 1:15:52done off the ice. But this guy is one of the
- 1:15:55greatest winning goal tenders in American history.
- 1:15:58He's not in the Hall of Fame. When I look at all the sports
- 1:16:02from top to bottom, the one that sticks out like a sore thumb,
- 1:16:06that guys that even though they were great, great players.
- 1:16:09I mean, Tracy McGrady is a great player.
- 1:16:10Dwight Howard was a great player.
- 1:16:13Vince Carter was a great player. Longevity was sensational.
- 1:16:16They're not Hall of Farmers. They're not.
- 1:16:19They're great players, just not Hall of Farmers when you're
- 1:16:22looking at greats. What's your what's your argument
- 1:16:25with Dwight Howard? He had to go to the Lakers at
- 1:16:30the tail end of his career to win a championship.
- 1:16:31He had to go to the yeah. And if he was so great second
- 1:16:34time, if he was so great of a player, why didn't he win with
- 1:16:38those Orlando Magic teams? Listen, you just said it's a
- 1:16:41team sport. Now you want to put it on the
- 1:16:44individual. It's either teams.
- 1:16:45He got paid a lot of money. He got paid a.
- 1:16:47Deep in the player of the year, he got them a.
- 1:16:49Champion. So what?
- 1:16:50Contest What Time? All Star One of the best centers
- 1:16:53that ever played a game. No, he wasn't.
- 1:16:55No, he was not one of the best centers of all time.
- 1:16:57No, he was not. No, he was not.
- 1:17:00How long? How long was his peak?
- 1:17:01Would you say speedy? How long was seven years?
- 1:17:04Seven years. Seven years so.
- 1:17:06How long do you need? To have 10-10 years as an 80.
- 1:17:10I say what? What?
- 1:17:11He went to the Lakers? Yeah, once he went to the
- 1:17:13Lakers, the. 1st 10 years as an elite player, yes.
- 1:17:16If you can, kill for seven. Years listen Hall of Fame OK,
- 1:17:19listen, you have to be my argument is if if you're you
- 1:17:25have to be in a 10 year span a top ten player in the league to
- 1:17:28be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:17:30That's that's the way did the best of the best the best of the
- 1:17:34best? No, it's not there.
- 1:17:35Michael Jordan was. LeBron James was.
- 1:17:37Kobe Bryant was. Tim Duncan was.
- 1:17:39You want me to go on and on. Charles Barkley was.
- 1:17:42You, you want to make it, Duncan was what?
- 1:17:44Tim Duncan was a top ten player in the league for 10 years,
- 1:17:47absolutely at at at a high level 100%.
- 1:17:50Carl Malone was. John Stockton was.
- 1:17:53Yes they were. Isaiah Thomas was.
- 1:17:55Tim Duncan was a top player for like well over a decade.
- 1:17:58Yes, he was only bad like the last year and a half when he was
- 1:18:01banged up. Dude, I'm going to tell you
- 1:18:03right now, if you want me to name players, I, I can't even.
- 1:18:06Magic Johnson was a top ten player for 10 years straight.
- 1:18:10He, he, Larry Bird was, I could go on and on and on.
- 1:18:13You're going to tell me Tracy Mcgraney in a 10 year span was a
- 1:18:16top ten player in the league? Not a chance.
- 1:18:18Vince Carter, no, he was great. Top ten.
- 1:18:20That's fine, but that's not my argument here.
- 1:18:22Grant Hill wasn't either. He wasn't a time.
- 1:18:25Grant Hill was great for five years, five years.
- 1:18:27I remember his first five years were amazing.
- 1:18:30They were calling him the next Michael Jordan.
- 1:18:31Then he had that ankle or or leg problem.
- 1:18:34He was never the same player. Heel problem.
- 1:18:36That was that's what it was. It was a heel problem.
- 1:18:39OK, if you go back, if I'm looking at top top players and
- 1:18:44I'm looking at the greatest of all time in their decade, I you
- 1:18:48have to be for 10 years span. Chris Paul is a Hall of Famer.
- 1:18:52He is a Hall of Famer. He was a top ten point guard in
- 1:18:55the league, a top ten player in the league for 10 years
- 1:18:58straight, easy. He was the best point guard in
- 1:19:00the league for at least seven or eight years.
- 1:19:03So my argument here is a lot of Dickembe Mutombo was a good
- 1:19:07player, Hall of Famer. Not a chance in hell, not a
- 1:19:11chance and may rest in peace. May rest in peace.
- 1:19:14You know my argument here is, and I know you laugh, the NBA
- 1:19:19just for some reason and ducks these guys into the Hall of Fame
- 1:19:22for some damn reason. I don't get it, Adam Silver,
- 1:19:25because it's a players league. It's the LJA, the LeBron James
- 1:19:28Association. And, and to me, LeBron James
- 1:19:31thinks he's the greatest player of all time when she's on drugs
- 1:19:33because he'll never beat out Michael Jordan, never will be.
- 1:19:36And he could sit there and and go on the SP awards and sit with
- 1:19:40his boyfriends and look Carmelo Anthony.
- 1:19:42He won't win more championships, he don't beat them out in
- 1:19:44scoring and some other things. Dude, when you have the
- 1:19:46longevity, when you play 20 something more, I mean.
- 1:19:49He's got to have at least 10 years to even be.
- 1:19:52Nobody's qualified for. Nobody's saying longevity works
- 1:19:55in his favor. Nobody's saying that LeBron
- 1:19:57James is in a Hall of Famer. He's a first ballot the Hall of
- 1:19:59Fame. I'm.
- 1:20:00Not saying I'm not saying that you are saying that, but I'm
- 1:20:02just saying you can't use that against him because he's still
- 1:20:04in. What I'm saying?
- 1:20:05The old conversation you can. What I'm saying about the GOAT
- 1:20:08when I'm talking about what Michael Jordan did and his time
- 1:20:12won't be touched by any of these guys, by any of these guys.
- 1:20:16I'm sorry. But it's, I mean, I'd say Bill
- 1:20:18Russell, you're better than my. Country except, except for AJ
- 1:20:21Debansa. Oh.
- 1:20:23Please, I'm just. Saying the same guy that
- 1:20:27couldn't make it out of the first round.
- 1:20:28My argument here, Q, is not that these guys weren't great
- 1:20:30players. I'm not saying that Dwight
- 1:20:32Howard wasn't a great player. He was a great player.
- 1:20:35He's. Just a Hall of Famer.
- 1:20:37Why wouldn't you give Bill Russell to go then instead of
- 1:20:39Michael Jordan? Bill Russell was a great
- 1:20:41defender. His all around game doesn't even
- 1:20:43touch Michael Jordan's. It's just, it's just a different
- 1:20:46game, don't you think? Dude, dude, LeBron is not a
- 1:20:50better defender than Michael Jordan was.
- 1:20:51Michael Jordan was a it was an all world defender.
- 1:20:55I wouldn't. Say that really, you would say
- 1:20:57that LeBron James couldn't touch Michael Jordan in his defensive
- 1:21:00skills? Couldn't touch him.
- 1:21:02Couldn't touch him. And as far as Michael Jordan,
- 1:21:06LeBron James wouldn't be LeBron James without Michael Jordan
- 1:21:09either. Would Kobe?
- 1:21:10Sorry, because they so. Emulated their games through
- 1:21:13Michael Jordan. It's totally two different
- 1:21:15players. Yes, they're two different.
- 1:21:16Yes, no question, they play two different.
- 1:21:18Positions you said he emulated now Kobe you, yes.
- 1:21:21But. LeBron No.
- 1:21:22LeBron James, when he came into the league and, and, and he
- 1:21:25said, who is his favorite player?
- 1:21:26Why do you wear #23 He says his game.
- 1:21:29He wanted to build his game as a bigger Michael Jordan.
- 1:21:31That's what he said, King, King LeBron.
- 1:21:35So he said it, not me. He's the one who told them when
- 1:21:38he was up there, when he got drowned, left it by the
- 1:21:40Cavaliers and everybody said, who's your favorite player?
- 1:21:43Michael Jordan. Who did you want to play like
- 1:21:45when you were a kid? Michael Jordan?
- 1:21:47What do you want me to say? I didn't say it.
- 1:21:49He said it. Did he emulate?
- 1:21:51You said he emulated his game. We can look at Kobe and see that
- 1:21:54he emulated his game. What part of Lebron's game is
- 1:21:57emulated by Michael? He didn't try it when he came
- 1:21:59into the league. He didn't try to do those fade
- 1:22:00away jumpers. He didn't try to do that.
- 1:22:02His game wasn't like that in the beginning of parts of his
- 1:22:05career. He had to change.
- 1:22:06His game, yes. He couldn't be like Michael
- 1:22:09Jordan because when he started, he couldn't go left for the
- 1:22:11first six years of his career. That's true too.
- 1:22:13But but I'll tell you the thing that I think makes Errol right
- 1:22:17in this argument. Queue, Michael Jordan was
- 1:22:20defensive Player of the year in 198788.
- 1:22:22Kobe and LeBron never won defensive player of the year.
- 1:22:25So yeah, that's. What I'm saying like.
- 1:22:27Hold on, hold on. I think, I think those.
- 1:22:31Here's an award. Here's award.
- 1:22:33I'm not saying he wasn't a great defender, but I'm just saying I
- 1:22:36do think his name and what he was doing for the league gave
- 1:22:40him an edge when it came down to it because we know there was
- 1:22:43from a lot of. Here's a Here's a Here's a
- 1:22:45statistic that nobody in the NBA, including LeBron James,
- 1:22:48would ever break. Michael Jordan won Defensive
- 1:22:51Player of the Year, MVP and A championship and was the
- 1:22:55championship MVP in one year. Nobody will ever do that.
- 1:22:59Ever. Michael Jordan did that one
- 1:23:01year. So beat that, buddy.
- 1:23:03Beat that. Tell me.
- 1:23:04Look, you're great. Le Bron James.
- 1:23:06Did he ever do that? I think it was first team all
- 1:23:08defense. Not a Le Bron James fan but I
- 1:23:11can recognize his good. The stuff that he does well game
- 1:23:15is totally opposite on my. Yes, When he came into the
- 1:23:18league, he tried to play like Michael Jordan.
- 1:23:20He eventually had. He did.
- 1:23:22He thought his. Game based off what film?
- 1:23:24What do you mean? What film did you watch him
- 1:23:26play? When he played for the Cavaliers
- 1:23:27in the beginning, he tried to play his game.
- 1:23:31His game, Yeah, yes, he did. He did.
- 1:23:32Fadeaway jumper. Michael Jordan was a three-point
- 1:23:34shooter. He wasn't.
- 1:23:36Everybody who did a fadeaway jumper.
- 1:23:37His game was again, he was a bigger and more athletically
- 1:23:41guy, athletic guy because for, for his size.
- 1:23:44But when he came into the league, he tried to and he he he
- 1:23:48came out and he said at the draft, you want to go back to
- 1:23:51the draft, go back to the draft and look, they said, who do you
- 1:23:54emulate your game after he said Michael Jordan.
- 1:23:58So you want to say that it wasn't like that after, after
- 1:24:00the fact, Yeah. He's not Michael Jordan.
- 1:24:02About somebody saying I'm like looking at the game, look at the
- 1:24:06players, look what he's doing. I get my favorite player could
- 1:24:10be whoever. It doesn't matter.
- 1:24:11What is your game showing if it ain't showing it?
- 1:24:15You just admire a guy. When you look at his game now,
- 1:24:18he's more of a Magic Johnson. I know what he is, dude.
- 1:24:20You. What do you think?
- 1:24:21I don't know basketball, right. OK, OK.
- 1:24:24But when he came into the league, when he came into the
- 1:24:26league, he played. He tried to have his game played
- 1:24:30like Michael Jordan. Go watch his game his first two
- 1:24:32seasons. And he wasn't the rookie of the
- 1:24:34year. His first year.
- 1:24:35Carmelo Anthony was just so you know, just so you.
- 1:24:39Want it? Yeah, he won because he was a
