- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Amelia Earhart
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: has just taken off
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: for the next leg of her flight.
- 0:59[music]
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We carry a letter to whom it may concern,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: just in case the engines fail and
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: we fall
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: into the Arabian
- 1:19[music]
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: cannot read.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That was the amazing Laurie Anderson out in the thermals there.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: She was talking about Amelia Earhart,
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: who was the first woman to nonstop solo fly across the Atlantic.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And just as I was listening to that,
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I was just,
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: my arms are moving up and out and I was feeling about my own flight,
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: about our own flights,
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: how we've got this possibility to expand and expand and And dream and go to places
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: that our grandmothers and our great grandmothers and our ancestors,
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: they didn't dream of and they weren't able to.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And we can be the first women,
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: the first women in our line to reach places in ourselves,
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: to reclaim places in ourselves that were not possible until we were born.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: But that's not why I played Laurie Anderson for you.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I played Laurie Anderson because I went to see her.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: She's American, but let me tell you a little bit about her first.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: She's 79.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And I don't say that in a,
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: people sometimes say to me,
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: oh, wow, you don't look it when I tell them how old I am.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And it's not a compliment.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It's like I am...
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: I am, and I am, and I am, I am my age, and I am myself.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I'm not denying any moment of my life.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: She's 79.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And she started off as a sculptor and violinist, I think.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Wikipedia calls her an avant-garde artist, multimedia, language, technology, film.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: She's a storyteller.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: She's incredible.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And watching a woman, yeah,
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: who's that age,
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: up on stage,
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: so light, so curious, so talented, it was absolutely glorious to see her.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: But I nearly didn't get there because it was in Wales.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: It was at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And because it was in Wales, I've only been to Wales kind of to the countryside before.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: I didn't quite appreciate that if you're going into Cardiff at six o'clock at night,
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: there's going to be a lot of traffic and that it's all quite busy and gritty and And
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: by the time I got nearly there and I parked in a multi-story car park,
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: felt like a right country bumpkin,
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: I was absolutely dying for a piss and really, really stressed.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And I saw these two women and I just kind of like panted after them and said,
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: do you know where the Millennium Centre is?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: And they said, yeah.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: And they just sort of flicked with their finger and pointed to the next building.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: And so then I sort of,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: they were quite tall and I was Still dying for a win, quite out of breath.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And it was quite a lot to sort of keep pace with them.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And I was like, well, is that where you're going?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: And they said, yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I said, you're going to see Laurie Anderson?
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: They were like, no.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, who are you going to see?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I was just desperate to talk to them because they were really gorgeous.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: And they said, oh, we're going to see the Shovel Dance Collective.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And I was like, no way.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: They're my favourite band.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And they looked at me like,
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: yeah, no.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I thought they were kind of thinking, she doesn't know who the Shovel Dance Collective is.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: She's just a nutter.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: So I qualified my statement by saying I've got a podcast and I've played them
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: a couple of times on the podcast.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, by the way, did I say that?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You're listening to Mooney's Mythic Podcast.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Here I am to share with you the depth and delight of myth and how it can Maintain
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: and magnify and glorify your life.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to, you know, introduce the pod better.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: As soon as I'm coming up to nearly 100 episodes,
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to be a bit, you know, a bit more something.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Back to my story about being in Wales, following on to these gazelles, these beautiful women.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: And telling them I'd played the Shovel Dance Collective on my podcast.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: And so they were like, ah, ah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And one of them said, are you Sarah Mooney?
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, my inner child was so delighted to be recognised.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: They were like, oh, my girlfriend listens to your podcast.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And that.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you,
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: like sometimes thank you,
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: just thank you for the messages,
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: for the support,
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: for the keep going-ness of all of you when you do, when you get in touch.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: It's really, really something.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And they wanted to take a picture of me, which I wish I'd met.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: I kind of pulled a funny face.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I wish I'd met it with a bit more grace.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Anyway, then I went for a wee.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I went to see Laurie Anderson and she just...
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: She was so good.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Deep thinker,
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: unafraid,
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: deep thinker, heart, open,
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: sharing and sharing and sharing,
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: different layers, different thoughts that she's thinking on and working with.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: All her creativity of this show for about an hour and a half was really wonderful to me.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: She played video,
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: she talked about her past,
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Her relationship with Lou Reed,
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: she was married to Lou Reed,
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: she talked about touring with the Beat Poets, lots of things.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: And the thing that I took with me was that she said,
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: I think it was Pema Chodron she was quoting,
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: had said that under anger there is always, always,
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: always.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Always a broken heart.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: And I've been with that quite a lot.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And when my irritation,
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: my anger,
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: my slight tight jaw,
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: my judgment,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: when those things come in for me,
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: which have been happening a lot lately,
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: which I think basically means I'm not getting enough sleep,
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: but it's been happening a lot.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I've been just asking myself, where's my broken heart?
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: And it's like a magic spell.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: The other person just disappears and I can really feel the place
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: in me that's calling for my attention.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And I'll talk a bit more about that later because I've been working with that in
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: the story that I'm working with.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: But I want to tell you what happened next.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: It was good, as I say, Laurie Anderson, really brilliant and it's inspiring.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: And then when she came on to do an encore,
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: she got us all doing Tai Chi,
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: like a couple of thousand people doing Tai Chi in this great hall.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: It felt really good.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And yes, my body was just yes.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I want to move with people consciously and with integrity together.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And then I came out and I knew what I was going to do.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I had my plan.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I was clutching a fiver.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: And in the little studio,
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: because I know in those big places that they don't end shows at the same time
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: because it would just be a nightmare of getting up and down the stairs,
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: a nightmare of logistics.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So I had a hunch that the Shovel Dance Collective would be on later.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: So I found the little studio that they were playing in and I said to the doorman,
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: I'll give you a fiver if you let me in.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: He said, no, absolutely not.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And I gave him my...
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Sad dog face, which I learned from my son.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Sort of downward turned mouth,
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: head on one side,
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: sort of flashy eyes,
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: which I hardly ever implement, but I did at this moment implement this look.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: And I said, oh, please.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: And then I told a lie.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: I said, all my friends are in there.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: I've bought the wrong tickets.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I had to go and see something else, which I felt, Laurie, forgive me, because you were amazing.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: He said, okay then, in you go.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: So in I went, and in between, you know, there was two doors.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I tried to get my fiver out of the pocket, and to the guy's credit, he didn't accept my fiver.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: But I was blundering in,
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: and I banged the door as I went in,
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: and I'm very sorry to the Shovel Dance Collective for that, because it was...
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Pin drop in there and they were playing their incredible music.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I wasn't going to play one of their tracks but now that I'm here and talking about them I will.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I'll put one at the end of the pod because it's too much not to listen to them.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And those experiences have been with me as I've been creating the next pieces
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: of work and That I'm doing because when I went into the Shovel Dance Collective,
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I was so full,
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: from all the places that Laurie had kind of tenderised in me and got me thinking
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: about.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Then with the Shovel Dance Collective,
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: the deep drones that they play and the high notes and the old,
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: old songs just got my heart.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Breaking to pieces and I cried and I cried and I cried and I cried.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: And then I just tipped into kind of giggly hysteria.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: I just kind of giggled to myself
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: like I'm doing now.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: And then I danced.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I just went to the back and danced.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: It was glorious.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: So here I am creating a show to...
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Perform on Friday in the woods and a show that will be at St Benedict's
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: in Glastonbury next Friday for Samhain, Samhain's Secrets and Songs.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Wanting to,
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I was going to say deliver,
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: but more create a space where we can all feel a The content of our own hearts,
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: of our own beings and be able to be in relationship with them,
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: whether that's through tears or whether that's through laughter or whether that's
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: through dancing or whatever your, our way is.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Just feeling, thinking and feeling about that right now.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: I started by thinking about Jim Henson who created the puppet show
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: and Somebody asked him about creativity and he said,
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: have a really good idea and create enough space so that other people can play
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: within it to create a good team.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And that's what I've been wanting to do for the show in the woods.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: And it's coming.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: People are coming together.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: We've got three musicians, fire artists.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Two aerial acts.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: I've had the amazing Joanna Proctor supporting me with direction.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: It's really, really coming together and unpacking in a way that I could never do by myself.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: And I've kind of, I've just got myself to worry about.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: You know, I've delivered or shared the kind of map that I'm dreaming into, the map of the story.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And people are taking the bull by the horns and creating their own worlds within it.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: I feel desperate to get people out into the woods doing things together
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: and I feel desperate to create hope.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Desperate is not quite the right word but there's an intensity and an extreme desire
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: to get us all out
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: In nature,
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: being creative,
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: doing things together through the winter or before winter really kind of draws us in
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: so that we know we sort of have the habit in our souls of going out
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: and still connecting in lots of different ways.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: The piece in the story that I'm working on today is this piece where there's
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: a man We call him the gardener because there's this great tree that splits
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: into three.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: This great oak tree and it splits into gardener,
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: magician,
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: king and they have their separate stories and it's about how they come back together
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: to become whole.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: How we can come back together to tend to the earth,
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: to harness our own magic and to understand that we're all sovereign beings.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: That's basically what it's all about.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: So there's this moment where he comes out of, the gardener comes out of the world of the Fae.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And this world of the Fae,
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: it's all very wonderful,
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: but it's stopping him from connecting with the outside world.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And when he steps out, he realises that the outside world has been devastated.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: That's the King's story.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'll tell you a little bit about that.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: But the outside world has been devastated and the The inspiration I got
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: from this moment was from Max Porter's All of This Unreal Time.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: I'm going to read from it now for you.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: You know, I find myself at the midpoint of my life in a dark wood.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: And now I'm here in the forest of my mind.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And every tree is shame.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Every living thing is a reprimand.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: And I realise I must speak freely now before I lose you.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: So I was working as the witch of Wookiee Hole one day and there was a quiet moment.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: So I thought, OK, I'm going to just name and name and name and name my shadow, write it down.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: It was kind of It offered itself to me,
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: as I'm dressed as a witch and I'm handing out horrible sweets that are kind of,
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: you know, full of poison to children.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And so I had to get some till receipt because I didn't have any pen and paper on me.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: But the lovely person at the ice cream parlour scrolled out her till receipt a bit for me.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: And these are some of the words that I've got.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Unhelpful, unfriendly.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Mean, Scathing, Critical, Narrow-Minded, Petty, Dishonest.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Then in between writing these down,
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: kids are coming up and getting their Halloween treat and I'm giving it out
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: and coming back to my list.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Scheming,
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Exclusive, Cruel,
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Violent,
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Competitive, Grasping, Greedy,
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Blaming, Crushing, Selfish, Bitter, Brittle, Sharp.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So I'm thinking, let's just let all that land, shall we?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I know we've all got our versions,
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: but it's really up for me right now,
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: and they say it's in the astrology,
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: that we have this time where we're kind of going backwards and having a chance
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: to revisit things, heal things, if that's what we're choosing to do.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: But I sure as hell am revisiting some things and trying
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: to understand Why I am these things,
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: why I can be brittle,
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: why I can be sharp, why I can be greedy, why I can be unfriendly, all those things.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: And I just keep coming back to,
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: underneath it all, there is always, always, always a broken heart.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And I'm here with my broken heart.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Feeling it.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: The exquisiteness of feeling my own pain.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: It's such a relief.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Such a relief.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Like a deep breath after just breathing really shallowly.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: For a long time,
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: like a kind of dropping in my body rather than a sort of panic,
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: panic, panic, panic feeling.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm really enjoying working on these places and putting them in to the story,
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: which I think I'll tell different versions of this Friday.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Get in touch if you want to come.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: It's near Glastonbury, secret location, six o'clock.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And the 30th of October is...
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Where I'll be in St. Ben's with the amazing Ted Waters.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: I think I'm going to tell same versions, different versions of the same story.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: I went through it in the woods with the director,
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: which was just wonderful because usually it's just me kind of grunting and muttering
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: about and I can easily skip over things in my mind and then when I get to tell them,
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: especially if I'm only doing something once,
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: if I'm doing something lots of times,
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: I've got time to work on it,
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: but if I'm just doing something once,
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: I have a habit of being like, oh, it'll just come out.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: It'll come out right.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: But actually having someone there To try things out with and
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: to reflect back was really amazing.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm really up for doing that for you in the winter.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I do offer some online sessions where I can work with people with with speeches,
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: with stories, with with whatever they want to come through with.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: And if you want to work with a theatre director,
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: and I know I've said her name three times now,
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: but Joanna Proctor from Reveal Productions is the pig's ears.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: And I'm really happy with how this is unfolding,
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: this rootling around of my kind of unconscious,
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: subconscious, in order to create depth into the show.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: And then Afterwards,
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: in the evening of that particular rehearsal,
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: I'm lying in bed and I'm thinking, what are the audience going to get out of it?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: And I don't actually know the answer to that question.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And I wonder if when the Shovel Dance Collective play, they are
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: wanting to
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Extract, extract deep emotion
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: or what?
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: And I've no idea how it's going to be received.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I'm just putting one foot in front of the other right now.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: But what I really want to evoke also is magic.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: With magic, wonder and delight.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Moments of surprise, moments of charm, moments of, wow, that's, you know, great.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I love those moments that can be really simple.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I was going to share a bit with you then,
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: but I'll talk about it next week in case there's anyone listening who's going
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: to come.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And the second thing I'm working on is the character,
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: which I hardly ever pay heed to because I'm a storyteller and I tell the story.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: But I'm being encouraged to embody a character,
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: to not just be a storyteller, but to embody a character.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: And I've decided to embody the character of the wizard.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: So...
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: He's a wizard with no gardener in him and no king.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: So no desire to protect or create and no
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: ownership of his own sovereignty.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: And that's great.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: I can feel him there.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: And I want him to be
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: drunk and rude and But maybe that's just because I want
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: to express that part of my personality.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: But he's still a magician, you know.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: He's still brilliant.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: He's still a magician.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: So I've been thinking about how to bring that character through.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: And I was thinking about Robin Williams.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: He's an amazing storyteller.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Well, I have to say to you that when I first saw him, I was a little bit...
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: I didn't get it,
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: perhaps because I was there for the sound check and he seemed to be quite grumpy.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm the worst for being quite tetchy before a show,
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: but maybe there was something about that.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but I have listened to him many, many a time.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: His recordings and his live shows and I love what he does
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: but I particularly have been inspired by the storyteller persona that he evokes.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: So I've been listening to him and hearing the magic in what he brings
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: and I'm inspired to use him as inspiration for this magician.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I'll play a little bit of him for you now.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: In hermitic vocables,
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: whatever shades they prized,
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: what light or dapple, refract, Maligned with daubs of woad in patronizing words.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: For they were clean as clams,
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: witty and thick as thieves,
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: gossiping maskers worthy of serious love,
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: sticklers for detail,
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: furred with wolf pity,
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: honeyed as the claws of bears,
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: tree-truthful looters a long time's inches,
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: shooting a bare-faced lion,
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: secretive as heather ale, with leaves of breeding brewing.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Is a quick excerpt from Five Denials on Merlin's Grave and it's really inspiring to listen to.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: It really takes you,
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: it takes me into another world completely and so I've been listening to that a lot
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: and reading a lot of Max Porter and Thinking about how to layer all of that
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: with Laurie's inspiration of the broken heart within my storytelling right now.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: That was a log falling from the fire.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Ah, I hope you're coming somewhere to something where I can reach you.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: I hope you're moving your body in ways that please you.
