Black soot that blanketed parts of Hamilton in early July didn’t cause lasting health risks, according to the city’s health unit. After analyzing air quality, weather, and samples with toxicology experts, they found it was a short-lived event with low exposure levels — rain even helped wash some of it away. While residents reported itchy eyes, coughing, and grimy surfaces, ER visits didn’t spike.
